Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic, off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Firazzo.
- 0:19Well, God bless you, friends and family in Christ.
- 0:22Thanks for watching and sharing the podcast, World View Matters.
- 0:26Our guest today, Brant Hansen, will be with us in a minute.
- 0:30You can get to his website, branthansen.com.
- 0:32We're going to be talking about cure in a national cure.org.
- 0:37We're also going to be talking about some of his recent books.
- 0:39I mean, so many great ones.
- 0:41I hope you've picked up at least one or two unoffendable.
- 0:46God has good life.
- 0:46His heart lets dance.
- 0:48The truth about us, the men we need, and now the young men we need is which we'll
- 0:53talk about in just a little bit.
- 0:56And a great conference that he was a part of, and I think that should catch on around
- 1:01the nation.
- 1:02But first, we have to start off with a little friendly competition, and Brant is ahead.
- 1:08But I want to quote, producer Sherry Lynn about the recent followership conference.
- 1:15And she said, to say I was overwhelmed by the responses and understatement.
- 1:20People come from 32 states and three countries to hang out with us and talk about Jesus is
- 1:25just surreal.
- 1:26It was such a wonderful family atmosphere.
- 1:30And quote, we'll get an update from Brant on that conference in a minute.
- 1:33But I want to share, our fundraiser is done.
- 1:36Thank you for keeping us going, friends.
- 1:39And I want to shout out to the states that we've got Missouri, North Dakota, Tennessee,
- 1:44Wisconsin, Maryland, Canada, Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin.
- 1:48I already said Wisconsin, Connecticut, Ohio, New Mexico, New York, Minnesota, Illinois,
- 1:54Washington, Mexico City, Georgia, Illinois, Nebraska, North Carolina, Texas, Iowa,
- 1:59Toronto, Virginia, Wyoming, Nevada, and California.
- 2:03We are six short of Brant and Sherry's 32 states, but I think we're tied with countries.
- 2:10So Brant Hansen, welcome back to World New Matters.
- 2:13Good to see you.
- 2:14Thanks, man.
- 2:15I didn't know I was in a competition, but it's good that we're winning.
- 2:17Yeah, you're ahead.
- 2:18That's awesome.
- 2:19You're ahead.
- 2:20God bless you and your show.
- 2:22I love what you're doing.
- 2:23So let's start off.
- 2:24I loved what you did with that conference.
- 2:28And just the title itself says a lot, not only about you, but about, I think what the
- 2:33direction we should be going instead of trying to pump leaders.
- 2:37And you said something really interesting about servant leaders.
- 2:41And I thought, no, it should just be leadership.
- 2:43Go ahead and share about the followership conference.
- 2:47Yeah.
- 2:48It's always took me a little hard because we love leadership conferences.
- 2:52And I guess that's great.
- 2:54But Jesus sure talked about following a lot.
- 2:57And I was like, did anybody interested if we did a conference was actually about how
- 3:00to follow Jesus?
- 3:01Have to actually do the stuff that he told us to do?
- 3:04Like, how to actually love your enemies, bless people who don't like you and how to turn
- 3:10the other cheek, who walks extra mile like all that Jesus stuff.
- 3:13Like shouldn't we talk about how to do that?
- 3:16What I thought what happened to him was like, we would have maybe seven years, 75 people
- 3:20show up.
- 3:21I thought that'd be cool.
- 3:22If we did this at a grace college in Indiana, and that's what I thought would happen.
- 3:29We had 700 people show up.
- 3:32Awesome.
- 3:33It's just a tremendous desire to actually do Jesus stuff and understand that his way of
- 3:38living is brilliant.
- 3:39He knows what he's talking about and he's saying like, to forgive as we've been forgiven.
- 3:45How do we do that?
- 3:46Well, we talked about how to do it.
- 3:46It's immediately practical to make your life better.
- 3:49Like imagine.
- 3:50So that was really cool.
- 3:51I don't know if we'll do it again, we might.
- 3:53But just to see that sort of reaction was blew us away.
- 3:59And I think there's a real hunger and honestly, I feel like churches could do this.
- 4:04You could actually teach people like, here's how to follow Jesus and talk about how to
- 4:08do it.
- 4:09And in a very practical way, I think there's a hunger for it.
- 4:12Yeah.
- 4:13I hope there's a hunger for it.
- 4:14Did you trademark that by the way, followership?
- 4:17I totally should have.
- 4:18I am right now.
- 4:19I called it right now.
- 4:20Okay.
- 4:21He's on record.
- 4:23He's on record.
- 4:24Yeah.
- 4:25Yeah.
- 4:26I said it, called it.
- 4:27But I would love it if it just took off and people actually think that's what churches
- 4:31are supposed to be doing.
- 4:33Yes.
- 4:34Yes.
- 4:35I think it's a cycle.
- 4:36See, teach people how to follow the way of Jesus.
- 4:38And it's like Dallas, Willard said, you can believe in grace.
- 4:43And I certainly do.
- 4:44We need it every day and desperately.
- 4:46But grace isn't opposed to efforts.
- 4:49It's opposed to earning.
- 4:51So I don't deserve the kingdom of heaven.
- 4:53I don't deserve it.
- 4:54But I can certainly actually obey Jesus and find out that his way of living in the kingdom
- 5:01life is actually a lot better than not.
- 5:04Amen to that, brother.
- 5:05And friends, you know, talk to your pastors because, and you don't have to use followership,
- 5:11you know, well, you can't anymore, Brent is the trade market.
- 5:14But you can have a conference about being servants, better servants of Christ.
- 5:21And that includes not only the body bearing one another's burdens and serving the body
- 5:24of Christ, but out in our communities.
- 5:27And there's so much lack of salt and light today.
- 5:31But Brent, I want to say, friends, if you want to go watch our previous podcast on his
- 5:36previous book, which is called Life is Hard, God is Good, Let's Dance, go to worldviewmatters.tv
- 5:44and type in the search, Brent Hansen and watch it.
- 5:48Because one take away that I still, I told him before we got on today, I still, I just
- 5:52love the fact that the example you gave about the guy, the busy guy that was outsourcing
- 5:57everything to his assistant or secretary.
- 5:59And one night he said, I'm, you know, I'm worried about this, I'm going to outsource
- 6:03that.
- 6:04I'm going to tell my assistant to worry about this for me.
- 6:07And I think it's important enough for you to mention that again, Brent, that's such
- 6:11sure.
- 6:12Good point.
- 6:13Be so many people deal with anxiety and worry.
- 6:14And if we just followed the biblical, you know, instruction on that, I think we'd be better
- 6:19off.
- 6:20Go ahead.
- 6:21Well, it's so genius.
- 6:22Well, the guy who was talking about was Tim Ferriss, he's like a time management guru.
- 6:25He's not coming at it from a Christian standpoint or anything, but he did say he was worried
- 6:30about something.
- 6:31So as a joke, he told his assistant in India, could you worry about this for me today?
- 6:36And she's like, okay, sir, I'll do that.
- 6:40I'll put that on the list.
- 6:42But what was funny is he said it worked, like just knowing someone else was worrying for
- 6:46him, he freed him up to be able to think about other stuff.
- 6:50And I thought, I bet it does work.
- 6:52And what's more genius is the biblical idea that we're supposed to cast our cares on
- 6:58the Lord because he loves us.
- 6:59We're supposed to outsource our worries to him.
- 7:01Yeah.
- 7:02We're not supposed to be anxious to literally the Bible says, be anxious for nothing.
- 7:06It says Paul writing, this is be anxious for nothing instead.
- 7:08Pray about everything.
- 7:09Tell God what you need.
- 7:10So that's like, you're in my worries.
- 7:12You take it.
- 7:14And then thank him for what he's done.
- 7:16And scripture says that that peace will guard your heart in Christ Jesus.
- 7:20The peace we can't even understand.
- 7:23And I sound that to be true.
- 7:25You can actually outsource your worries to God.
- 7:27He actually can do something about it, unlike a personal assistant, but this is a brilliant
- 7:32way to live.
- 7:33And once again, the Bible is showing us God's wisdom that freezes.
- 7:37Amen.
- 7:38And really trusting the Lord with all of our hearts, leaning not on our own understanding,
- 7:43acknowledging him and all of our ways, he'll direct our steps, but you have to cast your
- 7:46care.
- 7:47I think that's a very important concept.
- 7:48But, Brent, one of the things that drives you is cure international, your work and your
- 7:53trips overseas.
- 7:56And that really is a huge part of your life and your ministry.
- 8:00Share about that.
- 8:01Why cure is so important in your life and your heart.
- 8:04Anybody who sees this breaks out.
- 8:07And it's too bad that it's something of a secret, even among Christians, which is too
- 8:11bad.
- 8:12There's nothing like this in the rest of the world.
- 8:14Your top notch surgical hospitals for the pediatric surgeries is neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery,
- 8:21plastic surgery, for people who have nothing.
- 8:24So, there's eight of these hospitals, their full-time top notch surgical hospitals.
- 8:30Every one of those surgeries is done in the name of Jesus, overtly.
- 8:34So each hospital is all about sharing the gospel openly with patients and healing people.
- 8:38So it's healing and proclaiming the kingdom.
- 8:42And last year, I think we had 40,000 people, this is not a graduation, and it's not a
- 8:49trifle, it's not like we check a box, but we share the gospel with people these families
- 8:54as we do surgeries on their kids.
- 8:57Last year we had nearly 40,000 people become believers in hospitals and at the mobile clinics.
- 9:03There's something about actually healing people, they did 18,000 surgeries last year.
- 9:08Again, all in the name of Jesus, you go into OR, and I've been in there many times, but
- 9:12you'll see the surgeons and the techs and the nurses praying over these little kids before
- 9:18they start their surgeries, and it means they can get up and walk for the first time.
- 9:24Or they've got a ignored cleft palate and lip, and they might be 17 years old, and it's
- 9:30defined in their whole life and now they're made a whole, and they're told about a God
- 9:35who loves them.
- 9:36So it's the most, I'm smitten with it because to me, as somebody who's seen a lot of
- 9:41religious stuff in my life, like this is the most Jesus shaped thing I've ever seen.
- 9:46Like anybody mentioned, yeah, sorry, I was saying you mentioned in the past that some
- 9:52of these kids or families looked at, they're looked down upon as cursed, because they
- 9:57have a deformity or something, that is so, well, first of all, it's not biblical, it's
- 10:01not American, but in a lot of these countries, they're superstitious, go ahead and talk about
- 10:06that a little bit.
- 10:07Right, and it makes sense now, when they brought that blind guy to Jesus, they're like,
- 10:10okay, who sinned?
- 10:12Was it him or his parents?
- 10:13That's still the same thing.
- 10:14In any traditional culture, that's still the same vibe.
- 10:18So the moms are blamed, and I didn't know that until I first started visiting these
- 10:23hospitals, but in each one of these cultures, you have a child who's got a correctable
- 10:28disability that would be fixed like that in the US.
- 10:31Well, the moms are told, you must have done something immoral while you were pregnant,
- 10:35where you must have failed morally, and that's why you have this curse.
- 10:39So people will run away screaming from the child, like, don't get the curse on us, don't
- 10:43get the curse on our kids.
- 10:45Sometimes the moms are kicked out of the community with the child.
- 10:49So when they walk in the door, it cure our staff, it's very attentive to those, whether
- 10:54it's, again, the nurses, housekeeping, the doctors themselves, like, they will go running
- 10:58toward the door when they see them and say, oh my goodness, what a beautiful girl you
- 11:03had, or what a handsome little boy, what a beautiful baby, and these moms have never
- 11:06heard that before.
- 11:07And we tell them, you're actually not cursed.
- 11:11God is blessed to you with this child.
- 11:14He loves you, you didn't do anything wrong, it's not your fault.
- 11:18This happens so that God can be glorified, and then we heal their kids.
- 11:22I know, like, this is Jesus stuff, so they go back into their villages and people are
- 11:26like, who did this?
- 11:27We thought you were cursed, and they're about to start talking about Jesus.
- 11:31God's full opportunities.
- 11:33Yeah, imagine, and it's like $1,000 for a surgery.
- 11:37So that, to me, the impact for like my wife when I was like, holy smokes, are you kidding
- 11:41me?
- 11:42Um, so anyway, I visit these hospitals, anybody who goes, if you ever go and visit, you'll
- 11:46come back or raving with a tick like me, you'll be like, we've got to do this is so good.
- 11:51Okay, friends, want to remind you of the website, cure.org, and there's, they're based
- 11:56in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but also Canada, there's Cure United Kingdom, um, you can donate,
- 12:02you can see before and after pictures on the front page of their website.
- 12:05And please check out cure.org, um, brand.
- 12:09So you wrote a couple books, several books.
- 12:11One of them, the previous one was a past book was the men we need.
- 12:16And you've mentioned, I've had guests on talking about toxic masculinity and all that.
- 12:21But so why the need to write to the young men we need are about that.
- 12:26Go ahead.
- 12:27Have you heard of Andrew Tate?
- 12:28This is why I wrote this book, the young men we need.
- 12:31So it's a distilled version of the men we need.
- 12:33So guys, I think it could be as young as a smart 12 or a smart 13 year old could process
- 12:38this.
- 12:38And I, I think it'll hook them, even if they're not big readers, because I, I pinned down
- 12:45something that women are very attracted to and at a deep level.
- 12:50And I start with that because I want to get their attention, but it's true.
- 12:54Um, it, and Andrew Tate is a guy, I don't know, do you know who that is?
- 12:59Yeah, yeah, okay, you do.
- 13:01All right, so he's like the most searched guy on Google a couple of years ago.
- 13:04Like he has 14 billion views on social media for videos.
- 13:11He's like an X MMA guy.
- 13:13He's a smart enough guy, but his lifestyle is ridiculous.
- 13:16And it, it's expression of masculinity.
- 13:18He's like, this is what it's like, we need to be strong.
- 13:21Uh, he's got kids for multiple women all over the place.
- 13:24He's got these cars.
- 13:25He's got, but he offers this distinct in his view, like idea of masculinity.
- 13:32It's terrible, but it is distinct.
- 13:35And I was, I was reading a, a time to London article about this.
- 13:39The other day, they said, you might find his views ridiculous, but you have to admit.
- 13:44No one else is giving people an idea of what masculinity is.
- 13:46And at least he's got a model.
- 13:49Like that's what we're up against.
- 13:51And this, this guy's popular in Christian schools in America, like among guys.
- 13:55Yeah.
- 13:56A lot of it's a lot of it.
- 13:57Honestly, so I, the crying need is to articulate what masculinity really is.
- 14:05To young guys and, and adults, because even in church culture, we're like, well, we know what it is.
- 14:10You need to man up.
- 14:12You need to stand up and be a man.
- 14:14Well, that doesn't, that doesn't tell me anything.
- 14:18Like what is it?
- 14:19Unfortunately, in church culture, too, we'll be like, well, it's, we're going to do men's stuff.
- 14:22So let's have acts throwing night.
- 14:24Let's have, you know, right?
- 14:27And there's nothing wrong with that.
- 14:29Like if nothing wrong with that is nothing wrong with doing, you know, steak night or motorcycle club,
- 14:33or whatever, nothing, but that's not, that that's not the real vision for masculinity.
- 14:38And especially young guys, they might be more artistic or they're more, you know,
- 14:42they're going to be a accountant professors.
- 14:44Like they're not into writing motorcycles.
- 14:46Like what speaks to their heart, too?
- 14:51So that's what I'm doing in this book.
- 14:52I'm saying God actually had an idea for masculinity and it's the job.
- 14:56I believe it's the job he gave Adam, which is to be the keeper of the garden.
- 15:01That's who we're supposed to be.
- 15:03That means the people in our sphere of influence.
- 15:05And this can even start when you're nine years old.
- 15:07Like do you have people in your sphere of influence?
- 15:08You protect them.
- 15:10You make them feel safe because you're around, not unsafe.
- 15:13You use your words to protect them.
- 15:16You don't use your, you don't use your words to make them feel more insecure.
- 15:20Well, as it turns out, that's a great way to be a husband.
- 15:24That's an incredible way to be a friend.
- 15:25It's like this, we're made for this.
- 15:28And in fact, when women see us performing that role,
- 15:31where we make people secure around us because we're there,
- 15:34they actually find that really attractive.
- 15:36And you don't have to be checked.
- 15:37You don't have to be an MMA guy or Navy CEO or you don't have to have a motorcycle and look like a Viking.
- 15:42Like you make people feel secure or even golden.
- 15:45Your wife will be extremely attracted to you.
- 15:48If whatever you're there, she just feels more secure.
- 15:52So that's, that's what this book is about.
- 15:53It's actually trying to construct an actual vision.
- 15:57So what it is instead of deconstructing, it's easy to deconstruct that the real work is to say,
- 16:02here's the, here's the beautiful thing about masculinity.
- 16:06When we do it right, everybody around us is better off.
- 16:10So, you know, that's what that book is about.
- 16:13It tackles some big subjects, but that's, that's the, that's the number.
- 16:16That sounds like it's needed.
- 16:17And we'll talk more about that with Brent Hansen in just a minute.

- 17:13Brent Hansen, our guest today, BrentHansen.com.
- 17:18We're talking about young men we need.
- 17:20God's purpose for every guy and how you can live it out.
- 17:23The description says the world needs young men to grow up into real men.
- 17:28But there's a problem.
- 17:30Young men get so many conflicting messages about what it means to be a man.
- 17:35They find it hard to know what masculinity looks like when men are at their absolute best.
- 17:41Brent, I think that's a core part of the problem because it's not modeled for these particularly young Christian boys.
- 17:50Is there dad modeling it?
- 17:52Is it the pastor, men at church?
- 17:54Society sure isn't. Hollywood isn't.
- 17:56In fact, Hollywood makes out men to be bumbling idiots, maybe unnecessary or even fathers to be unneeded.
- 18:03So we're not getting that message elsewhere.
- 18:05So talk a little bit more about the conflicting messages.
- 18:09Well, see, here's the thing.
- 18:11Somebody might even model it in your life.
- 18:14But saying it out loud is so helpful.
- 18:17Like to say, this is what we're looking for.
- 18:20And it's not that complex.
- 18:22I noticed this with my kid when just this was nine.
- 18:25So we have a son and a daughter and she's three years younger.
- 18:28But he was picking on her in the house.
- 18:31And I just heard her going, stop that or whatever.
- 18:34So I went back and I said, justice.
- 18:36I kind of just stumbled on this.
- 18:37But I was like, you know what?
- 18:38You're supposed to protect your little sister.
- 18:41But I'm defending her against you.
- 18:44Like you betrayed your role as a protector.
- 18:47I didn't even think that much about it.
- 18:49But honestly, I don't think we had that problem again.
- 18:53A nine year old can understand that.
- 18:56Like people should be safer vulnerable.
- 18:58People should be safer because you're around your neighbor that should be safer just because you're there.
- 19:03Even if they don't know it, people around you that the innocent,
- 19:07the vulnerable should be safer.
- 19:09That's your job.
- 19:10And even when the culture acts like they don't understand that,
- 19:13when they do see it in action, they stand up in a blog.
- 19:16I mentioned this.
- 19:17I forgot to put it in the book.
- 19:18But there was, I don't know if you saw this like a couple of years ago in Louisiana.
- 19:21There was a high school that was being overrun with fights just every day.
- 19:26Fight, fight dozens of fights.
- 19:28And a bunch of dads decided they're going to volunteer and show up.
- 19:32No more fights.
- 19:33The dads are in all way.
- 19:35And they're laughing and joking with the kids.
- 19:37The whole place is at peace.
- 19:38The kids are studying better.
- 19:39Everybody's getting along.
- 19:41Like, there you go.
- 19:42There's masculinity right there.
- 19:44And so that caught on.
- 19:45It's like a huge viral deal.
- 19:47There was another story about a young boy who defended his sister from a dog.
- 19:52This happened in Wyoming and Montana.
- 19:54His name was Bridger.
- 19:55And it went viral.
- 19:57He got attacked by the dog because he jumped in and her stead to defend.
- 20:01He's like six years old.
- 20:03Wow.
- 20:04And he had to get 88 stitches on his face.
- 20:07Wow.
- 20:08But he said, I thought if I thought if anyone had to die, it should be me and not her.
- 20:12That's what he told us that.
- 20:14How old is that?
- 20:15He was like six or seven.
- 20:16I kid you not.
- 20:17You can look it up.
- 20:18But his dad had already inculcated that.
- 20:20I already told him that's his role.
- 20:22Wow.
- 20:23Is a defender.
- 20:24But when he did that, it went viral and like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans from Avengers
- 20:29who sent him a Captain America original shield from the movie.
- 20:33They did a zoom with him.
- 20:35Like live.
- 20:36So on one hand, the culture is like, we don't know what it is.
- 20:39But when we see it, it's like.
- 20:41Wow.
- 20:42Yes.
- 20:43And I'm telling you guys.
- 20:45If you are this, if you make your wife, let's say you're let's say you get married.
- 20:50You make your wife feel secure.
- 20:52You're golden.
- 20:53If you make her feel insecure, you could be jacked.
- 20:56You could have the motorcycle.
- 20:57You could be good looking.
- 20:58You could be the athlete.
- 20:59You could be rich.
- 21:00But if you make her feel insecure by.
- 21:03Being all about yourself or your own bodybuilding or flirting with other women.
- 21:07So she'll actually resent all that stuff.
- 21:11Conversely, you don't have to be all that stuff.
- 21:14You could be a normal guy.
- 21:16You might even have a few extra pounds.
- 21:18But if you make your wife feel secure, you don't need a six pack.
- 21:22She doesn't care.
- 21:25Like it's all the matter of being this non needy guy who's focused on.
- 21:30Allowing her to flourish, allowing her to feel safe and the people around you.
- 21:36You're golden.
- 21:37Like so that's it's actually really good news for God.
- 21:39You don't have to be all that stuff.
- 21:40Yeah.
- 21:41Yeah.
- 21:42And it sounds it's interesting.
- 21:43Part of what I'm hearing, maybe not with the little boy that God has faced you about the duck.
- 21:47But part of what I'm hearing is.
- 21:49Being serving other serving your wife.
- 21:52You are the leader of the household, but you can still serve.
- 21:56That seems like that plays into this too.
- 21:58Real men do serve and people will see that, right?
- 22:02Well, that's what we do.
- 22:04If you're a keeper of the garden, like if there's a species that might not be able to survive in the wild.
- 22:10I'll say a plant.
- 22:12Because it'll get choked out.
- 22:14But in a well-tended garden, it gets to flourish and bloom.
- 22:17It's vulnerable, but because you're there, it gets to thrive.
- 22:21I mean, that's gardening.
- 22:23So I want my wife to flourish.
- 22:25I want my kids to like everybody in my sphere of influence.
- 22:28I am coming underneath them.
- 22:30I want them to.
- 22:32To flourish and what they want to do and need to do in the, in the kingdom.
- 22:36So I feel like that's our role.
- 22:38That's where we're at our best.
- 22:40It takes, it takes strength, strength to do it.
- 22:42And again, not being needy.
- 22:45But I'm telling you, there's something so needed about this.
- 22:49That's the, like the end of the news report about these dads in Louisiana was the principal saying,
- 22:54what an answer to prayer that these men showed up.
- 22:58I mean, she was, she was almost in tears and she's like, what an answer to prayer.
- 23:04Like, that's our whole culture right now.
- 23:06We don't have that, but we're not articulating to guys what the role is.
- 23:09I think we do.
- 23:10They get it.
- 23:11Guys get it.
- 23:12Yeah, but you have to take it.
- 23:13You have to say it.
- 23:14Yeah.
- 23:15So, Brent, this book was dedicated to your stepfather.
- 23:21Why did he have such a big impact on your life?
- 23:24Well, I came from a broken home.
- 23:26I gone through a couple of divorces and whatnot and didn't have the best example.
- 23:31And that guy married my mom the day after I graduated high school.
- 23:37And instantly set up out like, how can I teach this guy some skills?
- 23:41How can I be a blessing to him talking about me and my brother?
- 23:46And that's just been wonderful over the course of my adulthood to have a guy like that.
- 23:50I'm not his flesh and blood.
- 23:53But he just dove into it.
- 23:55I think he had compassion on me and on my brother.
- 23:59And he has, he has now been faithful with my mom, faithful with us for decades.
- 24:04And I just respect the heck out of that.
- 24:07You know, he's the man I needed at the time, right?
- 24:11So the book is called The Man We Need.
- 24:13So I thought that makes sense.
- 24:14Yeah, that's neat.
- 24:16So what advice would you give to regardless of what age a young man is?
- 24:22Maybe someone older who maybe didn't have that modeled for them.
- 24:27And maybe they're still struggling to figure out what being a biblical man,
- 24:32a real man, what does that look like?
- 24:35What would you say to them if they're struggling?
- 24:37Because they'd have no one in their life to look at unfortunately.
- 24:40Well, I got two things to say.
- 24:42Number one's going to sound self-aggrandizing.
- 24:44I honestly don't mean it this way.
- 24:45I would give you a copy of the book if I could, but read the book.
- 24:48Because I'm literally the question on answering.
- 24:50Here's how to do it.
- 24:51And you can do it.
- 24:52You don't have to, you don't have to fit any stereotype or anything.
- 24:56You can do this.
- 24:58But the other thing I would like to tell you is that you are not doomed to repeat
- 25:03the mistakes of your own bad.
- 25:05You are not huge.
- 25:06That's huge.
- 25:07Or your family of origin may be jacked up and maybe messed up,
- 25:10but that does not mean that your next family has to be that way.
- 25:14So please know that you can have a completely different experience I have.
- 25:20My brother has.
- 25:22And our kids had a completely different experience than what I went through.
- 25:25So there is hope.
- 25:27The other thing I'd mention, if I could mention the third thing,
- 25:30is that I spend the last chapter kind of talking about this is like,
- 25:34take responsibility for your spiritual life.
- 25:37And by that, it's not a guilt trip by that.
- 25:39I mean, a lot of people associate spirituality with emotion.
- 25:42And so a lot of guys feel like I must not be very spiritual.
- 25:45I'm not feeling God around.
- 25:46I'm not feeling spirituality is not emotion.
- 25:50It's loyalty.
- 25:52You can do that.
- 25:54Don't let anyone think you're less of a believer because you don't have these emotions all the time,
- 25:59or you don't cry during worship services.
- 26:01It's like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 26:03That's great.
- 26:04If other people feel this and that, but if you don't, that doesn't mean God left you.
- 26:07He is looking to partner with you in life.
- 26:11And so you can pray.
- 26:12When you pray, it's just you and God talking about what you're doing in life together.
- 26:15And you can do that.
- 26:16It's really pretty simple, but he'll change you.
- 26:19And as you pay attention to him, he'll shape you.
- 26:22And you will be a blessing to people.
- 26:24Maybe maybe for generations.
- 26:28And I'll say that your books and your writing style, very inviting, very easy to follow,
- 26:34and keep up with entertaining.
- 26:36But the point comes across whenever you're opening up a chapter.
- 26:40It's just really good how you draw people in.
- 26:42I love the way you write, brand.
- 26:43And I want to direct people to the brand and sherry, odd cast, not podcast, odd cast.
