Latest / What's Your (Least) Favorite Scary Movie? / #310: Rest Stop (2006)
Transcript
- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? Grandpa used to say everybody's
- 0:11got their own private demon. For him, it was the war he
- 0:14fought in Vietnam. For Grandma, I guess it was
- 0:17Grandpa and all the shit he put her through.
- 0:20For my mom and dad, was there a private demon?
- 0:22I guess that'd be me. Well then, what's your least
- 0:25favorite scary movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:27the good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd and all of our
- 0:30favorite. And least favorite?
- 0:31Scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:33movie rightfully has its fan base even.
- 0:35We don't always get it. My name's Travis and.
- 0:36I'm Jesse and welcome back. Yeah, second week in November.
- 0:40Yeah, we're continuing our theme of traveling because that's it's
- 0:44travel time, holidays, planes, trains, automobiles and whatnot.
- 0:49So that's where we're continuing with our Patreon voted episode,
- 0:53Rest stop. Important part of traveling is
- 0:56rest stops. That's true, yeah.
- 0:59So we'll talk about that, but I need to give a couple quick
- 1:03announcements. 1, our TV or not to be episode was this past
- 1:07weekend. Go check it out.
- 1:09We talked about glamping. It's actually a Tubi original.
- 1:11That's right, yeah. We have kind of actually some
- 1:15deep discussions on it in a way that I wasn't prepared for.
- 1:18But it touches on some deep stuff, so yeah, it was ripe for
- 1:23it, yeah. Also, I'm just going to plug it
- 1:25again. I was on Lex Basil Price's new
- 1:28podcast. I guess you can find the link to
- 1:31that in the show notes here. We talked about TV show theme
- 1:34songs. You all should remember Lex.
- 1:37He and JW Crump guested on our episode covering Halloween
- 1:42Resurrection. He is also one of the Co hosts
- 1:45of Pod Liedum, so go check that out.
- 1:48His new show is a lot of fun. It's a great time, yeah.
- 1:52All right. Cool, now we guess what?
- 1:54Guess what, guys, Guess what? We did it.
- 1:55We got a pole. Fucking pole.
- 1:57And even more, Travis remembered what the pole was going to be.
- 2:00That's right. It was an easy one that sung
- 2:02because we made it up on the spot on the episode last week.
- 2:05So it was about House of 1000 Corpses because that's what we
- 2:09talked about last week. We wanted to know when you see
- 2:12Rainn Wilson, do you think fish? And I tell Travis I accidentally
- 2:18voted out of instinct on my personal Instagram.
- 2:21So he was like, well, I'll go vote out of instinct on mine
- 2:24because we're pretty sure that we cancel each other out.
- 2:27But we'll see. The problem is that there's
- 2:30three options, so the math is fucked regardless.
- 2:34True. And OK, so I had three options.
- 2:37It's fish without a doubt. I don't see it or all I see is
- 2:42Dwight. So 40% say fish without a doubt,
- 2:4610% I don't see it, 50% all I see is Dwight.
- 2:50Dwigged. Dwigged yeah.
- 2:53That's just dwigged. I even included that little like
- 2:5655 chin thing that he had because I like that shot of him.
- 3:00So it reminds me of Dwight. I just wanted to like, but this
- 3:02is Dwight right here. And then I also had Fish Boy up
- 3:04there. Yeah.
- 3:06I mean, we're not all Otis or Bill Mosley when we look at
- 3:09Rainn Wilson, but some of us are.
- 3:11Some of us feel. The artists, The artists out
- 3:13there, see the fish. All right, OK, we ready for rest
- 3:17stop. We are.
- 3:18All right, Rest Stop released October 17th, 2006 on TV.
- 3:25On TV. On TV this is a made for TV or
- 3:29direct to TV. Do we know the channel to video?
- 3:32Because this is a harsh TV movie if that's the case.
- 3:36I'm not. Entirely sure.
- 3:37I've got a little bit of information when we get down to
- 3:40the fun facts, which is also kind of amazing because that's
- 3:42hard for the direct to video movies.
- 3:45Yeah, yeah, for sure. So rest stop is available
- 3:49currently to rent only, so you can rent it from prime, YouTube,
- 3:54Google TV, Apple TV or Fandango at home.
- 3:57Written and directed by John shavon, music by Barry mccreery
- 4:00and special effects makeup by Jamie kalman.
- 4:05Starring Jaimie Alexander as Nicole Joseph, George Mendocino
- 4:09as Jess, Joey Lawrence as Deacon and uncredited Nick Orifice is
- 4:17the killer. Who's Nick Orifice?
- 4:19It doesn't matter. He's uncredited.
- 4:21He's the fucking killer and he's uncredited.
- 4:23That is weird though, why would they not give him a credit?
- 4:26I mean, he's a big part of the movie.
- 4:28He does a full Gollum, or well smeagol I guess, and bites her
- 4:32finger. Off he does, and he does a lot
- 4:34of sniffing. He does a Talia.
- 4:35Too. Yeah, less Talia's, less pervy.
- 4:39Yeah, yeah. His intentions are not.
- 4:41That's pure. Yeah.
- 4:43So I just thought that was bizarre that he's uncredited for
- 4:45it. That is weird.
- 4:46That's kind of rude, really. I mean, he's like without him.
- 4:49What's the movie? Exactly.
- 4:51And Joey Lawrence, I he's a The first thing that popped up into
- 4:57my head was Melissa and Joey on Freeform slash ABC Family not.
- 5:03Familiar. OK I never watched that show.
- 5:06He was also in Got some older show.
- 5:10Awesome. Maybe.
- 5:11Wait, so you're talking about the guy that plays Jesse?
- 5:13No, the guy that plays the cop Deacon.
- 5:15He looked familiar to me. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:17Yeah, all right, time for our favorite game.
- 5:20Budget or Buckhead? Buckhead.
- 5:27Listen, I had a rough time gathering information for both
- 5:31the movies we recorded for this weekend.
- 5:33I don't have budget or box office or gross information for
- 5:37it. Yeah, that's not surprising.
- 5:38I have an IMDb score 4.6. Only four point.
- 5:42Six only 4.6. Wow, OK.
- 5:44I went ahead and pulled three other movies from 2006 just to
- 5:48see some of the common themes. And you know what a common theme
- 5:51I think 2006 had? What should have gone to Disney
- 5:55Should. Have gone to Disney.
- 5:56Should have gone to Disney. OK, the first one is Dark Ride.
- 6:01Oh yeah. I think that's one we actually
- 6:04randomly owned on DVD. I don't know if we do or not,
- 6:07but I remember we have watched that.
- 6:09Yeah, yeah, it's a decent little movie.
- 6:12That released October 20th, 2006.
- 6:15I don't have a budget, but it made money worldwide.
- 6:20Oh, it made monies. IIMEV, a little sketchy here
- 6:26because it says opening weekend in US and Canada made 2.4
- 6:30million. Wow.
- 6:31But then it said worldwide it made something like 330,000.
- 6:36So I'm kind of leaning towards that second number, but I want
- 6:39to give it the 2.4 million benefit of the doubt.
- 6:42I'm wondering if that too is the budget.
- 6:44They just accidentally swapped it, put it in the wrong place.
- 6:48It's possible. Yeah, anything's possible.
- 6:50It has a 4.6 out of 10 so same as rest stop.
- 6:52Yeah, that feels about right for that.
- 6:55The second movie. Taristas.
- 6:58Oh, Taristas, Yes. That released December 1st,
- 7:022006, so it's almost at its birthday.
- 7:06Budget of 10 million. Worldwide gross of 14.7 million,
- 7:10IMDb of 5.4. That is 1 I know for a fact we
- 7:12have on DVD. It's not a bad movie either.
- 7:14Yeah, it's the problem is in my head.
- 7:17I always for some reason compare it to The Ruins and the Ruins is
- 7:21just so much better. Yeah, yeah, it is kind of
- 7:25similar. It's just instead of like
- 7:28nature, it's just people. Yeah.
- 7:29Just people. And it's kind of pulling on the
- 7:32whole urban legend thing, so. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:36And then the final movie, Final Destination 3.
- 7:39Hey, hey, yeah. That released February 10th,
- 7:432006. Budget of 25,000,000.
- 7:46Worldwide gross of 118 million. IMDb.
- 7:51Is it not good? 5.9.
- 7:54Oh, that's actually not as bad as I was just saying.
- 7:55OK, you Jesse, like held my hand here.
- 7:58It's like your. Favorite of the franchise?
- 8:00I don't it's I thought it would hurt your feelings.
- 8:02It's one of the best definitely, but 5.9?
- 8:06That's a solid IMDBI guess. OK.
- 8:10I have a tagline. OK, kind of kind of OK.
- 8:16So the tagline is listed as dead ahead.
- 8:21But here's The thing is, if you buy the 2 pack of rest stop in
- 8:25at sequel Don't look back, it's listed as the rest stop 2 pack
- 8:31Dead Ahead and Don't Look back. Yeah, I've always read the dead
- 8:34ahead as like part of the nail. Yeah, like I've never took that
- 8:37as a tagline. Yeah, so, but I just, I couldn't
- 8:42be empty handed with both the movies, both the movies this
- 8:48weekend. That is surprising.
- 8:50It's. Rough.
- 8:52I can't even say it's a lost art because this is an older movie.
- 8:55Yeah, yeah. I guess maybe the fact that it
- 8:57went to TV instead could be a factor.
- 9:01Yeah. Who knows?
- 9:03All right, so. Yeah, let's.
- 9:06Do this. I actually found an interview
- 9:08with the director John Sheehan. He did an interview with Robert
- 9:13G Galluzzo and so I got some information about it from there.
- 9:18It was his it was the first direct to video horror film from
- 9:22Warner Studios, Raw Feed. So they made like a little
- 9:25subdivision of Raw Feed. Raw Feed was actually a three
- 9:29Man Group. It was John Sheehan, Tony Kranz
- 9:32and Don Merrick. Don Merrick.
- 9:35If the name sounds familiar, he's one of the Co directors for
- 9:38the Blur Witch Project. OK, I was gonna say that did
- 9:40sound familiar to me. So this was Shebin's first
- 9:43feature length film. He came from a TV series
- 9:47background. He worked on Supernatural and
- 9:49X-Files. Wow.
- 9:50Cool. Yeah.
- 9:53Combined their combined experience, they have 24 which
- 9:56is considered thriller, X-Files considered sci-fi, and Blair
- 10:00Witch Project considered horror. So those were the elements that
- 10:02they were wanting to bring into all of their raw feed
- 10:04productions. Oh, that's interesting.
- 10:06Yeah, so they're trying to. That's why we have like, those
- 10:07supernatural elements in this movie, because they wanted to
- 10:11combine all of those together. Oh, that's cool.
- 10:13And actually, this movie was a result of a lot of brainstorming
- 10:16between the three of them, plus John Shebin's love for the movie
- 10:21Duel by Steven Spielberg. OK, he drew a lot of inspiration
- 10:24from that. That's the one that is about
- 10:27like the truck driver, right? Yeah.
- 10:28Man, we need to watch a. And he was also really into
- 10:31Asian horror this time, so. He was.
- 10:34Bringing all of those together. No, no, if I feel any Asian,
- 10:37maybe there's some Asian horror there.
- 10:39Yeah, it didn't. The interview didn't get any
- 10:41more specific than that. I wish he had like said like.
- 10:43These what it was, yeah. Like he he went on a long time
- 10:46about duel and he was like also Asian horror and my business
- 10:49partners. OK.
- 10:50Well, that's, you know, that's really interesting to see where
- 10:53the inspirations came from. Now that you say that water,
- 10:55that becomes obvious. Yeah, this was shot in 15 days
- 11:00and he was like, you know, the general warfare television is 8
- 11:04days. So you if you can shoot a 45
- 11:05minute episode in eight days, it seems like you should be able to
- 11:08shoot a feature length in twice the amount of time.
- 11:10But it's not that easy, especially when you're
- 11:12contending with things like weather and, you know, casting
- 11:15through availability and everything.
- 11:17The 16th day they set aside specifically for like, special
- 11:21features for the DVD because. Because apparently John Sheeven
- 11:24fucking loves a special feature. Hell yeah.
- 11:26And that makes me really sad that we rented this from Prime
- 11:29instead of like getting a DVD getting a DVD of it, because
- 11:32apparently there are just like a ton of special features on it.
- 11:34We need to find the DVD at Half Price Books sometime.
- 11:37If we find the DVD on Half Price Books, we will make a Patreon
- 11:40bonus episode for The Bubble. Oh, that sounds fun.
- 11:43On the on the special features. Yeah, hopefully.
- 11:45It's not like the happening where they're like, this is our
- 11:47special features day and it's just like the same shit over and
- 11:50over again for every single special feature.
- 11:52Just M Nightsham all and having fun just goofing.
- 11:54Yeah. But those are those are all the
- 11:57fun facts I have. Because, you know, then the
- 11:58interview went on to talk about his other projects, which is
- 12:01fair because, you know, he's got things going on.
- 12:03But I was happy to find that much and it it actually
- 12:06explained a lot of the movie for me.
- 12:08Yeah, that was actually a pretty good amount of stuff considering
- 12:11what we're dealing with today. Yeah, generally it's really hard
- 12:14to find background information for movies like this.
- 12:16So it very much like a vial where the guy has such a
- 12:20different career and it's like we're gonna just erase.
- 12:23But he seems pretty proud of Rest Stop.
- 12:25So good. I'm glad for that.
- 12:26Yeah, I'm happy. Cool.
- 12:28All right, so with all of that out of the way, Travis, we're
- 12:33gonna kick it off with you on our good, bad, ugly and absurd,
- 12:36starting with good. All right, this movie, I like
- 12:41that it's a shorter movie. Like I feel like saying like I'm
- 12:45happy that it's short makes it sound bad, but I feel like if
- 12:48you like, you know, you don't have a lot to work with.
- 12:50So like don't draw it out if you don't have to.
- 12:53Exactly, and this would be such an easy movie to meander with.
- 12:56Yeah, and they don't. I mean, there's a little bit of
- 12:58meandering here and there, but like for the most part, they do
- 13:01a pretty good job with the time that they have.
- 13:03I did like watching her get drunk and Moody while she thinks
- 13:06she's waiting for. Causes yeah, it wasn't bad.
- 13:08Yeah, that wasn't a bad moment, right?
- 13:09That's not exactly the part I'm thinking of either.
- 13:12I'll actually mention it and I'll point it out in my bads.
- 13:14But I mean, this movie, it's simple.
- 13:18The plot, not really strong, but it's OK.
- 13:20It doesn't need to be a strong plot.
- 13:22It's just a situational experience that you know,
- 13:25everybody, I mean, not everybody's been through this,
- 13:28but you can relate to it. You can understand why this is
- 13:30scary and like it knows it's bread and butter.
- 13:33It is about the guy stalking and then doing some like sadistic
- 13:38killing shit. This is also around the time
- 13:40where the. Is super fucking popular.
- 13:43So. We're getting stolen's out.
- 13:45We're getting the splatter board yeah, genre coming out and
- 13:48everybody's like OK, let's like add a little bit of that to this
- 13:50right here and the. Second one amps it up times 10
- 13:53so if you want more of that definitely get don't look back.
- 13:56Yeah, they really here, it's not even that featured.
- 14:00It's just like a this is a scary thing that he does to his
- 14:03victims, but we don't really see most of what happens if we we
- 14:07get glimpses. Yeah.
- 14:08But like it, it was nice. Like it knew what it needed to
- 14:11be. It did what it wanted to do well
- 14:14enough. And I I had a good time with it.
- 14:17I agree. I think that we have a decent
- 14:20set up with this. You know, we see her and her
- 14:22boyfriend, they're driving. She puts on a really strong
- 14:25performance, which is good because she's got to carry most
- 14:27of the. She has, yeah.
- 14:29And I think that also goes into the writing too, because to be
- 14:32able to write something for a single person for the most part.
- 14:36In like a single location. In a single location it takes a
- 14:38lot of work and there there were more story pieces to it than I
- 14:43remembered. Like I forgot about the
- 14:45Winnebago completely. Yeah, I did too.
- 14:48I forgot about that. I forgot about the ghost people.
- 14:51Yes, I, well, I remembered them being ghost people.
- 14:53But Speaking of that, that moment with Joey Lawrence's
- 14:57character where he like, opens his eyes like you missed.
- 15:02Yeah, I just. Scared the shit out of me.
- 15:04It scared the shit out of me the first time I watched this with
- 15:06my mom at like midnight on sci-fi and it scared the shit
- 15:09out of me two nights ago when we watched this.
- 15:11Yeah, oh boy. Yeah, yeah, it's pretty intense.
- 15:15And I think it's just, and I'm always going to be upset at
- 15:17thingy bitey I I will never not hate seeing that in a movie.
- 15:22What was it? Fingy Bitey?
- 15:23Oh, fingy bitey. OK, yeah, biting off her finger.
- 15:26Yeah, it bites it off. Yeah, it's not good.
- 15:30And I just overall, I remember this movie being really, really
- 15:34effective because she's trapped there and she's trying to do the
- 15:36things and, you know, she's so isolated and it's just a scary
- 15:42situation. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:44And I think, especially as women, we're taught public
- 15:47restrooms are a place that you need to be on high alert at all
- 15:49times because shit can happen. Yeah, you're, I mean, you're
- 15:52very vulnerable they. Yeah, like I remember reading a
- 15:55story in maybe YM or something where a teenage woman was
- 16:03assaulted or teenage girl must be accurate.
- 16:06She was assaulted when she was alone in the movie theater
- 16:09bathroom. And so I like stories like that
- 16:13all the time. And this is not one of those
- 16:15like, bullshit, like, oh, it's men pretending to be trans
- 16:19women. It's not that kind of fucking
- 16:21bullshit. Trans women or women get the
- 16:22fuck over it. But it's one of those like, oh,
- 16:26man sees that the bathroom is empty and is going to go prey on
- 16:30an individual. Yeah.
- 16:31So. But yeah, I I think this movie
- 16:34has a lot of like, really effective elements to it.
- 16:37Yeah, I agree. OK, bad stuff.
- 16:40Yeah. With the guy with the killer,
- 16:45they don't do enough with them, I don't think.
- 16:48There's a lot of driving up and then driving away.
- 16:50Like he like, just like does this thing kind of appears
- 16:54menacing for a moment and then he just goes on and fucks off
- 16:56for a little bit. You know who would have the
- 16:58follow through for this rusty nail?
- 17:01Yeah, I got Rusty Nail vibes big time from this guy.
- 17:04He's a Rusty Nail wannabe. He, yeah, he's a copycat, I
- 17:07think. But like, yeah, I just feel like
- 17:09they could have done more interesting things with them.
- 17:11Yeah. I do feel like it kind of does
- 17:13pad the time, even though it is a shorter movie.
- 17:16But like, I thought that they drew out the cop dying just a
- 17:21tad bit too much. Maybe they were trying to make
- 17:24him relatable when he was like, you know, like showing the
- 17:26picture of his kid when he's like in the bathroom and you
- 17:30know, just kind of like laying on the floor.
- 17:31It was about 5 minutes of him giving like a sob story about
- 17:34his life basically. Look, Joey Lawrence, he, he
- 17:38wanted his Oscar. Nobody told him that.
- 17:40This was straight to video. Well, that's that's funny you
- 17:44should say that because one of the like, there was a moment
- 17:46that I genuinely laughed just because of his delivery and it
- 17:49was not like Oscar material. I'll bring it up here in a
- 17:53moment. OK, OK.
- 17:55But that's like mostly the bad stuff for me.
- 17:59Yeah, I think that maybe there are just like some random things
- 18:03thrown in, like the Winnebago stuff.
- 18:07Yeah, it doesn't really make much sense.
- 18:10It doesn't make sense. It doesn't add anything to the
- 18:13movie. Even at the end it doesn't make
- 18:15any sense because the father is definitely not the same guy
- 18:19driving the truck later. So it's not it.
- 18:22Like none of it makes sense. It just seems like it's like, a
- 18:25waste of time. And the same thing with Jess's
- 18:30characterization. They made him so unlikable that
- 18:34it was hard to, like, feel bad for Nicole.
- 18:39Yeah, like, I mean, I felt bad for Nicole with him.
- 18:42I mean like feel bad that she's lost her boyfriend.
- 18:44I don't think that they made him unlikable exactly.
- 18:47They didn't make him likable. He was just like, AI don't know.
- 18:51I didn't really think there was anything that terrible about the
- 18:54dude. I think part of their problem is
- 18:55that they were teenagers. That's what I was thinking, the
- 18:58it's two teens that are running away from home like they're
- 19:00going to be. Teens, and they're not like
- 19:02they've never had to deal with any actual life hardships
- 19:07together. And the second things get rough,
- 19:08he's like calling her a fucking crybaby.
- 19:10And he does it so many times. It's like Jesus Christ, dude.
- 19:13Yeah, he is mean to her there for sure.
- 19:15Yeah. Ugly.
- 19:18I believe I just have the killer sniffing like, yeah, it's just
- 19:22like, that's like a small detail.
- 19:24But the fact that he, like, sniffs everything about these
- 19:26women is just so upsetting, so icky.
- 19:29Yeah, so icky. It's just whoa dude, keep your
- 19:32nose to yourself. Yeah, it's that's, it's
- 19:35upsetting in that way for sure. I think I'm also going to add to
- 19:40the ugly, whatever is happening in that Winnebago, something
- 19:48with that family there's. The remix are off they in.
- 19:51An unhealthy, not in a this is different and I don't like it.
- 19:53But in these children, I'm concerned about their welfare
- 19:57and safety, kind of. Way they're Mccoyles.
- 20:00Oh, Oh my God. Oh my God.
- 20:03I mean, really, That's exactly, I mean, like the two like sons
- 20:06that are just like sitting there, They're probably drinking
- 20:08milk and they're just like sipping on it and just like
- 20:10staring at her the entire time. Which to draw back to the It's
- 20:14Always Sunny connection and Jaimie Alexander actually is in
- 20:17two episodes of It's Always Sunny, she is in underage
- 20:21drinking both of them like the initial one and then the 120
- 20:26years later she's. Christ, we have not seen that.
- 20:28One haven't seen it yet but she comes back so OK.
- 20:30Interesting. All right, absurd.
- 20:34OK, well this one immediately is explained.
- 20:38I I wrote it in the moment, but it was like that moment when
- 20:42Tracy, the first ghost person, like she starts vomiting of
- 20:45blood and it's just like a fucking human's worth amount of
- 20:49blood. And I'm like, how are they
- 20:52making this like person going to survive this?
- 20:54How is this actually a thing? Like you don't just bombing up
- 20:57your entire body's amount of blood on the spot like that, But
- 21:00then she's a ghost. So it ended up making sense.
- 21:03Now this is the part with the guy you're talking about, the
- 21:05cough guy. Yeah, like, you know, like I, I
- 21:08laughed at that moment when he first shows up and he just like,
- 21:12she's like, aren't you going to arrest him?
- 21:14And he's like, oh, there's nothing really I can do to
- 21:16arrest him. I don't know, like he's just
- 21:17whatever. And then he gets ran over and
- 21:19then the same monotone delivery is like, help me.
- 21:23Just like the shot, like the camera just pans over to him and
- 21:26it's just like, man, this is this is spoiler to you.
- 21:29But like, I feel like you've seen it.
- 21:30Like the picture of like Yamcha just like curled up in a ball.
- 21:32Yeah, just like defeated. And I just like got that imagery
- 21:35of him right there. And it's just like help me.
- 21:37Well, and then his his legs get run over a few times by just a
- 21:41truck. And listen, I say just a truck
- 21:43because we've read and watched the Long walk recently.
- 21:47So if you know, you know. And then like from his kneecaps
- 21:53down, he's bloody like they like squeezed a tube of toothpaste or
- 21:56something. And this is dark, but I've seen
- 21:58people have their legs run over and that's not what it looks.
- 22:00Like that is dark. Just yeah, I'm usually the one
- 22:03that sees that shit. I don't expect that out of you.
- 22:06I feel like I had. I do have told you that story
- 22:08because it is like. In person or video.
- 22:10Or memory in person. What?
- 22:13Oh no. No, I saw my friend in fifth
- 22:16grade. We got off the bus together and
- 22:20it was like, we're in an apartment complex and somebody
- 22:23was, you know how, like, parents will be down there with their
- 22:25cars or you pick up their kids. Yeah.
- 22:27So somebody picked up their kid and didn't see my friend had
- 22:30bent down to tie her shoe and, like, oh, my God, hit her and,
- 22:33like, ran over her leg. And it was like flipped up by,
- 22:36like, her head. Yeah.
- 22:38It was really fucked up. Did the car stop?
- 22:40Yeah. OK, go ahead.
- 22:41Yeah. And like, she went to the
- 22:42hustle. She's like, I mean, her leg was
- 22:44fucking broken, but she she was more or less OK.
- 22:48But yeah, I remember, like, going home.
- 22:50I like sobbing, calling my mom because she was still at work.
- 22:53And my mom was like, I'm going to come.
- 22:54I'm going to come home. My God no, I don't remember you
- 22:57telling me this. I thought you were talking about
- 22:59videos. No, I've seen it in person.
- 23:02Every time I picture it in my head, it's like, you know, Kill
- 23:05Bill when her sight goes red. Yeah, that's how I see it in my
- 23:10head every time. Well, well, another piece of the
- 23:13puzzle falls into place. So anyway, she didn't bleed like
- 23:19that. That time she got lucky.
- 23:24Clearly that's something that happens that happened in a
- 23:27movie. It's got to be true.
- 23:28No, sorry, go one. More.
- 23:29Go ahead, go ahead, keep going. You're absurd.
- 23:31Sorry I had to trauma dump on it.
- 23:32No, that's great. I'm glad that you had that story
- 23:35to share. Like, that might be the only
- 23:36time you're going to be able to share that, unless we talk about
- 23:38the long walk on here. No, because I can't bring that
- 23:41up to the long walk because that dude was wasted.
- 23:45Like done. Yeah, gone.
- 23:47Not the. Scale person.
- 23:49Different reasons, Lug. Yeah, OK.
- 23:53The final one is we are with them at this rest stop for what,
- 23:58like 2 days right? And we never see anybody.
- 24:03But at the end of the movie it is bumping.
- 24:05There's people all over this place.
- 24:08Like I just don't get it. Yes, I'm gonna.
- 24:11All right, so mine beyond the the leg bleeding.
- 24:19So she sees these ghosts and her whole moment of like, I'm not
- 24:23going to be a fucking baby anymore, like her growth, her
- 24:25hero moment. She was like, I'm going to stop
- 24:27listening to people tell me what to do.
- 24:30My guys, first of all, you're seeing these ghost people, but
- 24:34you have like you've conjured them in your head, like you came
- 24:38up with these things. So you're already telling
- 24:41yourself what to do. It's not other people telling
- 24:43you what to do. And that leads me into what is
- 24:45potentially going to be a controversial, yes, brave
- 24:47opinion. Controversial yet brave opinion.
- 24:52Is this a better, earlier version of the Black?
- 24:55Phone. I was thinking the same thing.
- 24:58Oh my God, I can't believe you made the same connection I was.
- 25:01I mean, it really did feel like that exact thing.
- 25:05But The thing is, these people weren't helpful.
- 25:07They were a little the cop was a little bit and the ghost somehow
- 25:11knew that the bus was a thing because we find out in the
- 25:13sequel well and in the video later that the killer tosses or
- 25:17there is a bus, there's a torture chamber bus.
- 25:19So and like the cop is like do these things So like they do
- 25:25kind of help her. It's less intricate, like it's
- 25:28less of a like piece meal plan, but.
- 25:31Why did the dream have to traumatize her though?
- 25:33Isn't that fucked up? Like she conjured us up, but
- 25:35she's like, I'm gonna shoot this guy in the head but not actually
- 25:38kill him, so I'm gonna have to do it a second time.
- 25:40You're fucking yourself over this.
- 25:41Subconscious. Yeah, man, like you're your,
- 25:44you're your own demon. Yeah, right.
- 25:46Not Jesse. Yeah, she was like, I wonder if
- 25:48my dead boyfriend's my demon. Oh no, it's me.
- 25:51I have. My own demon too.
- 25:53I got some problems. All right, all that said, yeah,
- 25:58what are you rating this out of 10?
- 25:59I'm giving A-77. I like this movie, it's pretty
- 26:02solid. I'm gonna give it a 7 also OK
- 26:05because this this is a movie that I've seen like 3 or 4 times
- 26:08total, but it has stuck with me hard since the first time I saw
- 26:11it. Yeah, I think the only other
- 26:13time I watched it was when we first started dating, when we
- 26:15did that one. And that was because I'd seen it
- 26:19a couple times with my mom, and I was like, no, listen, yeah,
- 26:21you gotta watch this one. And it was RIP.
- 26:24It was at Hastings for rental. Man, I missed that place.
- 26:28Pour one out. Yeah, but yeah.
- 26:30OK. So we got a starting average of
- 26:31seven. She haven't.
- 26:32She haven't already. This is pretty solid.
- 26:34OK. All right, let's get into it.
- 26:37All right, so we start off with a black key needle drop.
- 26:40That is the thing that I remember the most from this.
- 26:42We are immediately with a girl is on my mind.
- 26:45Fuck yeah, I'm into it. Let's go.
- 26:46Which, OK, this is the start of their sell out era, and I don't
- 26:50mean that negatively. They literally refer to it
- 26:53themselves. They're like, yeah, no, we sold
- 26:55out. We wanted the money.
- 26:55Like you get a chance to have your song in a movie.
- 26:58Yeah, this was OK, 2006. This was, I mean, the only album
- 27:03that they have in this movie from them.
- 27:04This guy, I'm pretty sure a killer is a fan because he's
- 27:07like rocking Rubber Factory because that's what the ending
- 27:10song is too. It's from that same album.
- 27:12Yeah, yeah, I I get it. Like, go for it, man.
- 27:16Get your fucking money. Like, yeah, I I don't blame them
- 27:19at all. But this was a time where, like,
- 27:20people were like, oh, you're so out If you like, do anything to
- 27:23get financial success. Yeah.
- 27:25And they're like, yeah, I guess we are then, Cuz you know what?
- 27:28We need money. We need money.
- 27:29That's why I say like, I don't mean it in a derogatory way that
- 27:32this is their sell out moment. Like they have called it that.
- 27:35Yeah, no, it's it's true. But anyways it swaps.
- 27:38But it also doesn't make sense because we find out later that
- 27:41this is meant to have taken place in 1971.
- 27:43And this just tells me that raw feed couldn't afford the stones.
- 27:50Damn. Because this is Tracy that we
- 27:51see who like, she goes in there, she checks herself out and she
- 27:57gets sniffed at while she's trying to pee and she's like,
- 28:00dude, what the fuck? Gross, get out.
- 28:02And then he, you know, hits her on the back of the head.
- 28:05Is he also supernatural because he leaves or does he just like
- 28:09fake out? And just like, fake out for
- 28:11sure. OK, Yeah.
- 28:13Fake out for sure. But yeah, so and we find out
- 28:16later that she was like one of his first victims in 1971.
- 28:20She was headed to the see the stones.
- 28:22So maybe he is supernatural if he was listening to Rubber
- 28:25Factory back then. Good on you bro.
- 28:29Then I wrote grandpa's talking about demons and generational
- 28:33trauma again. Yeah, there we go.
- 28:35You were, you were like, I don't think I'm going to understand
- 28:38what this is and. Then I ended up making that my
- 28:39opening quote, so. So that's fine.
- 28:41Yeah. I just picture like grandpa
- 28:44being like, all right, I was in Vietnam.
- 28:46And the demons. And then then grandma's like,
- 28:50shut your trap, Joe. So she's running away with her
- 28:53boyfriend Jess. They're saying goodbye.
- 28:55Goodbye to Texas y'all. Goodbye to Yeah, yeah, they're
- 28:59leaving that place. They're going to California
- 29:01because Jesse wants to be an actor.
- 29:04And she's going with him. She brought her riding ribbon
- 29:07that she won when she was 13 and she tries to hang it from the
- 29:11rear view and he's like, you don't want that shit.
- 29:13And she's like, I like it, I'm proud of it.
- 29:15And eventually, like it gets hung back up.
- 29:17So I guess if they get over this shot.
- 29:19She won the battle. But she's also saying that she
- 29:21wants to call her parents. He's like, you don't call your
- 29:23parents when you're running away from home.
- 29:24She's like, I can call and let them know I'm OK.
- 29:26I'm not running away for shock value.
- 29:29And I think that's really interesting, their difference in
- 29:31minds, because it feels like he really wants to like, like,
- 29:35stick it to his parents. Yeah.
- 29:37And she is just like, I just don't want to be home anymore,
- 29:40but I also don't want them to be afraid.
- 29:43She made it sound like she was bad for them I guess, which
- 29:46you're not really making it any better by just running away.
- 29:49Yeah, I, I think, yeah, I think she's probably got a history of
- 29:53being impulsive and things like that and that's why she's saying
- 29:56she might be her parents personal demon.
- 29:58Yeah, well, either way, they pull over for a shag, they go.
- 30:02For it. Boy, we watched Austin Powers
- 30:05recently. Travis just doesn't casually say
- 30:07shag. Oh.
- 30:08Behave. Yeah, but I just need everybody
- 30:12to know that about you that you don't casually say Shaq.
- 30:15No, I don't no, but this is actually they make this sex
- 30:19scene somewhat important here because I mean, it's gratuitous.
- 30:22I I did see that they did body double S because I was in the
- 30:26credits. OK, but like we are getting like
- 30:29some pretty detailed shots. I thought we were actually going
- 30:31to see some like, unsimulated sex, right?
- 30:34Here it was kind of hard to imagine that body parts didn't
- 30:38touch. It felt like sexual ways with
- 30:40some of these ankles. I mean it felt like a porn just
- 30:42started playing here. Do you think maybe John Sheeban
- 30:45was just really excited to be making a non TV show?
- 30:48And he was like, I can have all the boobs and pee pee as I want,
- 30:52Yeah. You know I mean.
- 30:54He's like, what if I don't get to make another movie?
- 30:56You know, the times have changed.
- 30:57I feel like I see pee pees in TV shows more than I do in movies
- 31:00anymore. Oh my God.
- 31:01Like everybody who fucking loves to show a Dick these days.
- 31:04That was like spoiler for the end of The Hunting Wives if
- 31:08anybody's not watched it yet. Yeah, there's a guy with a big
- 31:11Dick. I miss the big Dick.
- 31:15I'm loyal to you. I didn't rewind it to go check
- 31:17out the big Dick, No. It's OK.
- 31:19If you wanted to take a peek, I wouldn't be there.
- 31:23I get it. I do.
- 31:24I see boobs all the time with my little tree.
- 31:26I mean, I saw some tits right here.
- 31:27You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 31:28Tits. That's also not something Travis
- 31:31just. Says Casualty, if anything.
- 31:33I'm the one who says tits casualty.
- 31:35Man, this movie is bringing out the vulgarity right here.
- 31:38I don't know it is this is I'm. Gonna I'm gonna call it the
- 31:41Sheeven syndrome, this. Guy's sniffing this really got
- 31:43me going. Oh, no, I'm sorry.
- 31:46All right, All right. So I like this moment here.
- 31:50This is something that makes me relate to Jesse.
- 31:53It's like he does like the naked cold run out to go pee and like
- 31:56that is like an actual cold run right there, the way that he
- 31:59just like shimmies all the way behind a tree.
- 32:01It makes me think that it was actually cold when they filmed
- 32:03with that. Yeah, he was actually naked for
- 32:05sure. Because like you see, he's full,
- 32:08full blown naked. He's got the Christian, like
- 32:10cupped up, monkey pee down. So it's not like Wangling, Yeah,
- 32:15there's a truck that's just been kind of slow cruising by them
- 32:18throughout all of this also. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:21So next morning they start driving again.
- 32:23They enter California and Jess gets a cous a call from his
- 32:27cousin who says his wife won't let them crash with them.
- 32:30Which is a really shitty thing to find out when you've already
- 32:34like they can travel along. Texas is fucking huge.
- 32:38Yeah. I'm wondering where in Texas
- 32:39because that also makes a big difference.
- 32:41Like if you're at the western edge of it and it's less
- 32:44impressive, but. You still had to drive through
- 32:46another full state before you get to California.
- 32:48Yeah, no, it it's something to sneeze at, that's for sure.
- 32:52Yeah, well, there. Travis also doesn't casually say
- 32:54the phrase nothing to sneeze. At Are you sure?
- 32:58I I've said it a few times. I don't remember you ever saying
- 33:02it. Boy, you.
- 33:04And that's what Jesse does do every time she drops her fucking
- 33:07clipboard every episode. You just don't know a must of
- 33:10time I've. Gotten better, I've gotten
- 33:12better. I didn't drop it last episode.
- 33:15That's true. That's true.
- 33:16OK, he's he's in his post, not clarity.
- 33:19Which I guess like in in his clarity, he's an asshole.
- 33:22So, OK, so they're arguing about this, trying to figure out what
- 33:25they're going to do. And then the yellow truck drives
- 33:27at them, like, down the wrong lane, head on.
- 33:31Jesse swerves, and he gets out like, he's going to go yell at
- 33:34the truck. But then the truck drives away.
- 33:37And Nicole is really, like, shaken up.
- 33:41And, you know, he, like, tries to calm her down.
- 33:43They have a moment. They get lost because this is
- 33:462006 so it's not like cell phones didn't have GP s s on
- 33:49them. And if you didn't have Agps
- 33:50system yourself, sorry that was redundant.
- 33:54The S and GPS stands for your system.
- 33:56Yes. Global Positioning System.
- 33:58OK. Yeah, if you didn't have Agps.
- 33:59If you didn't have Agps already and it would have to be like
- 34:03inexpense to get one, they weren't cheap.
- 34:05That was a graduation gift I had.
- 34:07Yeah, I remember. They were pretty awesome.
- 34:09Yeah, it was a very revolutionary invention.
- 34:12At the time, and like, you had to, like, make a point of
- 34:14bringing it in, connecting it to your computer if there was an
- 34:17update to the map. So it was.
- 34:19It was just a whole fucking thing.
- 34:21Yeah, So they're lost and they're arguing, which that I'm
- 34:25not even gonna blame on them being teenagers.
- 34:27I think most couples end up arguing when they're lost.
- 34:29Yeah, it's, it's like stressful. Yeah.
- 34:31He's not wanting to admit that he's wise.
- 34:33He's like, I'm fully in control. And she's like, look, we're not
- 34:35in fucking control right now. She's like, I need to pee and
- 34:38he's like, well, I'll pull over. She's I'm not peeing in dirt and
- 34:42she goes, I'm not a baby for that.
- 34:44And I like how she sounds like she's about to cry.
- 34:46She's. Saying that.
- 34:48And I relate. So I'm, I'm an angry crier and
- 34:51it's the most fucking humiliating thing because when
- 34:54I'm really mad, I start crying and I'm like, I'm not, I'm not
- 34:57crying because I'm a baby. I'm crying because I'm mad.
- 35:00And this is how my body, this is what my body does.
- 35:03Yeah, I I get you. It is.
- 35:06It is the worst. Well, anyways, they come across
- 35:10a rest stop, so they stop there. Yeah, she goes in to go pee
- 35:14herself and. She would have been better off
- 35:15peeing in the dirt. She would have, Yeah.
- 35:17He sticks by the car, pulls out a cigarette and starts to light
- 35:21it so we see her in the rest stop.
- 35:23It is nasty. It's.
- 35:26So bad. It is so gross.
- 35:27Yeah, the sinks are gross, the toilets are all fucked up.
- 35:30She finds the least fucked up one and then she's like golden
- 35:33herself with the edge of the stalls and like hovering the way
- 35:37you do. I guarantee there was no toilet
- 35:39paper, no. Surely not.
- 35:41She's idly looking at the graffiti, which has something
- 35:44about like he's stalking me, he killed them all.
- 35:47Like ominous kind of bullshit. I.
- 35:50Think I wrote them down here. OK.
- 35:52Yeah, where we at? Oh wait, that hasn't happened
- 35:56yet. No, she has looked at graffiti
- 35:58she but she's not like paying attention to it at this point.
- 36:01Oh, OK. Yeah, that's fine.
- 36:02OK. When we get there, I'll OK, I'll
- 36:04talk about. That she washes her hands in
- 36:07this real. Like again, this is one of those
- 36:09that I'm glad in 2025 one of us almost always has hand sanitizer
- 36:13on hand because if that was the bathroom and I'd be like, fuck
- 36:15that. Give me your Purell.
- 36:16Yeah. No, no.
- 36:17No, no, no, no. And it's also got one of those,
- 36:20oh, these are the grossest things ever.
- 36:22I generally as much as I am about like like non consumables,
- 36:28like, you know, in theory the the air dryer is better because
- 36:34it's you're not using paper. Those filters are disgusting.
- 36:38So I won't use the air dryers. I will just dry off on my pants.
- 36:42But what's worse, what's worse is those machines where it's
- 36:46like a single cloth and you pull it through and it rotates itself
- 36:51through. It is so gross.
- 36:53Who came up with that? Who did that?
- 36:56I think we need to, we need to have a public shaming moment for
- 36:59whoever invented that. Thankfully I don't really see
- 37:01those that often. Not anymore.
- 37:03They were definitely. I saw plenty of them in 2006.
- 37:07I've always thought they were disgusting and I was a child in
- 37:092006. Yeah, it's nasty.
- 37:11Yes, OK, sorry, I had to. I had to talk about this is
- 37:17like, and it's not even just that it was like a gross one in
- 37:19that bathroom. They're gross in general.
- 37:20It could be the cleanest bathroom ever and it would still
- 37:22be fucking disgusting to see that.
- 37:24It's funny that you brought that up because like isn't the whole
- 37:26thing with like the air blowing ones that gets like the
- 37:29containment like the germs from below like up on you?
- 37:34Yeah, like the Dyson ones are supposed to be the best ones
- 37:36because those don't even really have filters and you stick your
- 37:38hands in it. See, there's a bathroom here in
- 37:42town that is very cramped and the blow dryer.
- 37:47The air dryer is placed directly above the urinal.
- 37:52What? Where is.
- 37:53This villainous. OK, Yeah.
- 37:55And so like, if you go to dry your hands, the I, I, I actually
- 38:00just don't because I don't want like pee to be blown back up
- 38:04onto my hands, you know what I mean?
- 38:06All I remember from the bathroom in Villainous is that the
- 38:08mirrors are placed in unflattering locations.
- 38:11I guess both bathrooms have their own problems.
- 38:14They have their own demons. I love villainous, by the way.
- 38:19Yeah, it's cool. We love villainous.
- 38:20Yeah, but it's a strange placement, I'm not gonna lie,
- 38:23guys. Yeah.
- 38:24OK. So yeah, she leaves and she
- 38:27notices that Jesse's vehicle is gone and he's gone, but his
- 38:30cigarette that he was about to smoke is on the ground.
- 38:34Which is just that's just littering.
- 38:35That's just littering. That's irresponsible.
- 38:37Her cell phone has no signal, and she's just kind of all alone
- 38:40except for a Winnebago. Winnebago.
- 38:43Winnebago. That is, like the white trash
- 38:46version of Austin Powers instead of the Shagwar.
- 38:49He's got a Winnebago. Yeah.
- 38:54Anyway, nobody's answering her, and she's just kind of, like,
- 38:58chilling along. She sees that yellow truck
- 38:59again, It pulls up and it leaves.
- 39:02She goes over to the pay phone, but it's line is cut and she has
- 39:05this moment, sells the shit out of that and like just slams it a
- 39:11few times. We've all been there.
- 39:12Oh yeah, we've all been there. She walks to the road and sees
- 39:1560 miles till next services. So she's like, I guess I'm stuck
- 39:19here. Yep.
- 39:21And then she sees from the RV there's like pictures being
- 39:24taken in one of the. Rooms like a flash.
- 39:25A flash bolt is coming off and she again knocks on the window,
- 39:29knocks on the door, gets no answer.
- 39:32And then Mr. Yellow Truck drives by again, and this time he like,
- 39:36drives at her. She dives out of the way and
- 39:39then he circles back and drives past her and tosses out a cell
- 39:42phone with the battery. Removed.
- 39:43And it is Jesse's phone. Yeah.
- 39:46So she memorizes the license plate KZL 3O3 and she runs back
- 39:52to the bathroom and she rereads the graffiti and she realizes
- 39:56that he has done this before. There's a few scenes of her
- 39:59looking at the graffiti, so this might not even be the note where
- 40:02you have it yet. I is not where I have it yet,
- 40:05but like I, I do have them here. He followed me and I don't know
- 40:08why. Dated September 1992.
- 40:11This one, it started, he followed and then I kind of
- 40:16didn't see it so I filled in the rest.
- 40:18So I made it. He followed.
- 40:20He followed me to call TP. Hey Ryan.
- 40:24He followed me to call TP OK 1986.
- 40:27So you filled in the gaps much the way Nicole is filling in the
- 40:30gaps? Pretty much, yeah.
- 40:31And then there's also He's Gonna Kill Me 1971.
- 40:35OK, yeah. So she breaks into the ranger's
- 40:39office. That's right there.
- 40:40And she makes a call on the radio.
- 40:42Oh. No, I just want to give them
- 40:44credit in this moment here because this is like something
- 40:46that always drives me crazy. She busts in and when she
- 40:49reaches in she cuts her arm on the glass.
- 40:52That is a nice detail because there are so many movies I get
- 40:55like irrationally mad by people just like busting the windows
- 40:58out and just like putting their arms and everything all over and
- 41:00not getting cut at all. The This is 90% of the way.
- 41:05They are to be 100% of the way. For realism, we have to look at
- 41:10what's face in the Nice Guys. Ryan Gosling.
- 41:14Ryan Gosling, yes, thank you, because he does the same thing
- 41:19that he actually winds up at the hospital.
- 41:20Yeah, exactly that. And also I've just seen so many
- 41:23videos of people like either punching through a window or
- 41:26like being thrown through a window.
- 41:28It always fucks you up. There's blood everywhere.
- 41:30You know how easy it is to hit an artery when you do that shit?
- 41:33I have stepped on like the tiniest pieces of glass and it
- 41:38has ruined my fucking day. Yeah.
- 41:41Can you imagine several of those raining down upon you and then
- 41:46you putting your body weight into a Shard of it?
- 41:48Yeah. No, no, you're, you're fucking
- 41:50your day. Up, yes.
- 41:52Kudos for doing that. Yes.
- 41:53All right. And you're I I'm with you here.
- 41:56I enjoy this moment. She's just kind of checking
- 41:58things out. She sees there's a radio.
- 41:59This is something I meant to bring up in my absurd because
- 42:02one thing she finds is a bottle of Wild Turkey and clearly they
- 42:06were trying to cover the label, but it was so, so obviously Wild
- 42:10Turkey because you had old key and then the old label with the
- 42:14picture of the Turkey on. It yeah, they like scratched it
- 42:17off with like a like 1/4 or something to try and make it
- 42:20look weathered. I'm surprised they got away with
- 42:23that much. Because it was so clear what it
- 42:24was. When I've done extra stuff like
- 42:27it was always been, make sure the labels turn the fuck away,
- 42:30yeah. Yeah, it was pretty obvious, but
- 42:33yeah, so she finds that there. She finds the radio.
- 42:37She makes a mayday call and gets no answer at first so she's
- 42:40looking around. She turns on the TV and it's a
- 42:44video of her and Jess fucking in the car earlier.
- 42:48How does this happen? Yeah, Yeah.
- 42:50That's a great question. Is this real?
- 42:52Is yeah, that's is this real? That's a good question.
- 42:56Because like, there's so much shit that just kind of happens
- 42:58in this movie, like because. It's at the same angles is what
- 43:01we saw it with. And I need you guys to
- 43:03understand that we had up close shots of nipple.
- 43:08Yeah, like that camera has to be like within inches of you, so.
- 43:13And that's when the camera panned all the way down to like,
- 43:15her butt riding on top of. Him and that's the part that I
- 43:18was thinking of and I said I don't know how you filmed that
- 43:20without. This grinded for sure.
- 43:22Yeah, that's. That's a moment where you need a
- 43:25fucking intimacy coordinator, and those weren't around in
- 43:272000. 6 But you know what? Jesse got his dream.
- 43:29He's on TV. And he did say every actor has
- 43:32to do at least one nude scene. And she said if you're going to
- 43:35do 1 and it has to be with me, Bada Bing, bada boom.
- 43:37Here we go. You guys are famous.
- 43:39Everything happened. Yeah.
- 43:41So the radio starts back up, gives a call back, like, hey, I
- 43:45heard a heard a mayday from here.
- 43:46That's not how this works, sweetie.
- 43:48Yeah, sweetie pie. Like, it's not.
- 43:51You didn't leave a voicemail for somebody to check?
- 43:54Yeah. But she is young and dumb and
- 43:58desperate so. Doing what she thinks is right
- 44:01here, yeah. So she explains what's
- 44:02happening. He's like, well, I'm a trucker.
- 44:04I'm a few 100 miles away from you, but I'll go ahead and call
- 44:07the cops. And she's like, thank you.
- 44:09He's like, they'll be there soon.
- 44:10She goes, thank you so much. What's your name?
- 44:12He says Jesse, dumb, sweet little innocent Angel baby.
- 44:16It's like, that's my boyfriend's name.
- 44:17I know, come on man, you should like even the way that he paused
- 44:20before he says like, oh, Jesse like and he also kind of sounds
- 44:24like Rusty now he doesn't even it feels like they were
- 44:27channeling the Rusty. Now it really does.
- 44:30Yeah, so in the meantime, she's like, fuck it, I got help on the
- 44:34way I'm partying. She opens up that bottle of
- 44:36bourbon and starts chugging them.
- 44:39She also eats some snacks. The snacks are apparently stale.
- 44:42And again, we're meant to think that this rest off has been
- 44:44abandoned for a while, but they are very quickly renovating at
- 44:49the end of this movie. Yeah, I know.
- 44:51So that just means that this Ranger does not clean out his
- 44:53desk often. At all He didn't.
- 44:55He's not even there. What if he's just not been
- 44:58showing up for like years and then this fire happened and he
- 45:03was like. Shit, he's like pretty Brad.
- 45:05He's like the one decade I decided not to go in and this
- 45:08shit happens. Yeah.
- 45:12So yeah, this. Is where she goes into the stall
- 45:14and does her own stall graffiti but.
- 45:16Here's the thing. So all of the graffiti she saw
- 45:19was helpful. Like, oh, he followed me, I
- 45:22think he's going to kill me. KZL 3O3 And what does she write?
- 45:26I think I found him my own personal demon.
- 45:29That's cryptic as shit. Yeah, that's not helpful.
- 45:32Graffiti for the next person that comes along.
- 45:34No, it is not. Yeah, I I don't even know what
- 45:36she's doing. She's so hung up on this one
- 45:39thing right here, like finding the personal demon.
- 45:41Like come on, like she's. Just a teenager and she thinks
- 45:44this is deep. I'm going to hope she's 18.
- 45:47Just I don't even think that they're 18.
- 45:48I think that they're. Need it to be because they had
- 45:51that like very graphic sex scene.
- 45:54Jessie B. Watchers, Buffy.
- 45:56I understand that actors are 18. No, I'm talking about Buffy,
- 45:59where the characters are not even 18 and we're seeing some
- 46:01like 100 year old people boning, shagging if you will.
- 46:05Stop. Saying that.
- 46:09All right, this is where Jesse's car is now.
- 46:11Outside. Yeah, she comes back out and the
- 46:13car's back and she gets in there and she's real excited until she
- 46:16realizes that it's bloody inside and she tries to turn it on and
- 46:20the battery is dead and she's panicking a little bit.
- 46:25And then the car again. He wishes he was rusty.
- 46:28Now the truck comes and hits the car on T-bone style.
- 46:32She manages to get out. And then from his like, little
- 46:37rooftop floodlight bullhorn type thing, he plays the recording of
- 46:42their radio conversation. So maybe, you know what?
- 46:47Maybe there was a voicemail that happened because clearly he's
- 46:49recording everything on the radio.
- 46:52Boy, man, I don't. Know I don't know how this
- 46:54works. This seems like one of those
- 46:55things that we're not meant to think too hard about it.
- 46:58Yeah, that's I think that's what.
- 46:59But again, like it's this even real?
- 47:01Like I just don't even know. This movie made me question.
- 47:04Part of me was expecting a, a high tension twist at the end
- 47:09where she she was all her, all of it.
- 47:11Yeah. Oh.
- 47:11Man, yeah. But anyway, then he drives away
- 47:15and then the RV starts up and she's like Oh my God.
- 47:17And she, like, begs to get put on.
- 47:19And they're being real odd. Yeah.
- 47:22And she's like, that guy just hit me.
- 47:24And they're like, we didn't see anything.
- 47:25And she's like, no, but we need to call the police.
- 47:30It's so hot. You know what I do?
- 47:34Take off my control. Tops.
- 47:36Listen, you are not catching me in Spanx if it is above 60°
- 47:40outside, so good on you woman if you can make it to 100° before
- 47:44need to take them off. This is just such a This moment
- 47:48is good at making you feel weird.
- 47:50Yeah, it is very uncomfortable. And the weirder they are, at
- 47:54least it explains her reaction to this because she starts
- 47:56hearing a sound back there and she goes, Jesse, is that Jesse?
- 48:00Which the first time I'd be like, you know, that this
- 48:02motherfucker didn't just try and hit you with the yellow truck
- 48:04and then you're like, well, no, cuz they're being really weird.
- 48:07They could be in cahoots. They could be a cahoots
- 48:09situation. Yeah, and you're also hearing
- 48:11the pictures being taken. Yeah.
- 48:13And she's like, I gotta go back there.
- 48:14And they keep telling her don't go back there.
- 48:17And what's she do? She goes back there.
- 48:19And it's not Jesse. It's just their child, Scotty.
- 48:22Scotty with a camera. He's just like taking pictures.
- 48:26Yep, and the mom apparently thinks any woman who looks at
- 48:30Scotty is a whore. Yeah, I don't understand the
- 48:34thought process that's going on here.
- 48:35I don't know, but the Mcpoil brothers are like just sipping
- 48:39their milk and staring and I'm not even kidding.
- 48:41Like they look like Mcpoils and they're definitely drinking
- 48:43milk. Yeah, yeah.
- 48:45They're slightly better dressed Mcpoils.
- 48:46They're like Mcpoils at the wedding.
- 48:49Yeah, I wish they had the eye patch all right.
- 48:55So they drop her off back at the rest stop.
- 48:58Yeah. Which they had to have driven at
- 49:00least a few miles, so they turned around.
- 49:02Did a full circle basically. So she goes back into the
- 49:05bathroom, and she peels the paint and finds even older
- 49:07graffiti going as far back as 1971 talking about this guy.
- 49:10There we go. Yeah.
- 49:11And then she hears somebody in the supply closet in there.
- 49:14Yeah, somebody's going. Hey.
- 49:16It's somebody named Tracy Chris. And she is terrified when she
- 49:20hears that there's a yellow truck outside.
- 49:21She's like, no, no, no, no. He, he got me.
- 49:25He's got this bus where he tortures people.
- 49:27He tortured me. She's like, I deserved it.
- 49:30I was on my way to see the stones in Tucson.
- 49:32I stole $50 from my mom. Like, girl, you don't deserve to
- 49:37be torture murdered just for stealing from your mom.
- 49:40Like, they'll steal from your mom.
- 49:42But I'm sure that's not what she wanted you to experience as a
- 49:46punishment. Unless she was a real rat
- 49:48bastard, yeah. Yeah, it's a little extreme for
- 49:52sure. Like, I've never stolen from my
- 49:54mom, but I guarantee you if I did, she wouldn't be like, well,
- 49:56I hope you don't get tortured on a school bus.
- 50:00Yeah, like, I guarantee Naomi, if if that if you would want me
- 50:03to torture on a school bus. Please feel free to text me
- 50:05right now as you're listening to this.
- 50:06You have an obligation. So tell Jesse at this point.
- 50:10Yeah. So she's, like, definitely
- 50:12scarred and freaked out by it. And then they hear the truck
- 50:14pull out or pull up outside, and Nicole, thinking quickly, takes
- 50:19one of the loose stall doors on the bathroom and you sit to jam
- 50:24the door. Yeah, good thing that the
- 50:26bathroom is laid out the way it is.
- 50:27And honestly, it's kind of surprising that the rest stop
- 50:30because it has that like type of entrance where you walk in there
- 50:33and then you have to turn and turn again to get to the stalls.
- 50:36A lot of those usually don't even have doors.
- 50:38So the fact that there is like an entrance slash exit door that
- 50:41she can wedge this stall door up against is a good thing for the
- 50:45movie anyway. Yeah, for sure.
- 50:47She's peeking through the little hole.
- 50:50It's like a keyhole or whatever, and then she sees him, they make
- 50:53eye contact and then he just sticks his nose up and starts
- 50:55sniffing. It's so icky, yeah.
- 50:58Nicole asked Tracy how she escaped before, but Tracy can't
- 51:01remember. And Nicole's like, listen, I'm
- 51:03gonna go outside. I've got extra clothes in the
- 51:07trunk of my car. And then Tracy starts throwing
- 51:10up a lot of blood. Like so much blood.
- 51:12Like more than a human's worth of blood.
- 51:14It is insane. It's all over the.
- 51:16Ford and it's like very oxygenated, like it's got a lot
- 51:19of bubbles in it, which I think is meant to be a problem.
- 51:21Like, oh really? Yeah, I might be immersed in
- 51:25around doing that. I don't know.
- 51:26I'm not a medical person. She's also saying like the guy's
- 51:29not human. Yeah, so Nicole runs out and she
- 51:33doesn't grab the clothes like she said she's going to and says
- 51:35she grabs the tart iron and but she uses it to remove the lock
- 51:38for Tracy, but the blood is on when she gets back.
- 51:42In Imagine she's like tossing it right here.
- 51:43Put this on. Yeah, come on.
- 51:45So the closet's empty. There's no blood on the ground.
- 51:48She goes outside and she checks on the flares and sees it.
- 51:50Tracy Chris went missing in 1971.
- 51:53So she made this person up probably from like having seen
- 51:56the graffiti and having seen the missing Flyers earlier.
- 51:59She's also drunk. That's true.
- 52:01Yeah, like you don't get like drink the amount of wild Turkey.
- 52:04Wild Turkey is high percent right there.
- 52:08Wild Turkey. Listen, I don't want to talk
- 52:11shit about bourbon from my own state, but it is not the
- 52:16smoothest Burbank, Kentucky has. It is not.
- 52:18I like it, but you know, it's one of those ones that you just
- 52:21kind of have to, you have to get used to, I think.
- 52:24It is rough, but I'm much more of a maker's person, so.
- 52:28Yeah, well, she's The thing is, I mean, she's wasted.
- 52:31Here, Yeah, like I, yeah, she drank.
- 52:33There was like half a bottle of it and she drank all of what was
- 52:37left. Yeah.
- 52:38So that's a lot. So she heads back outside, and
- 52:43what do you know, the cop pulls up on his.
- 52:45Motorcycle yeah and he's checking out the office and
- 52:49she's like hey no listen here's the situation that happened.
- 52:52She it describes this truck so well.
- 52:55I made that made me realize I would be a shit witness cuz I
- 52:59wouldn't have come up with the term floodlights.
- 53:01No, I wouldn't be there. I was thinking, I must like in
- 53:04this moment, she starts off terribly.
- 53:06She's like, all right, can you describe the truck?
- 53:08She's like, well, it's a truck. And I'm like, OK, all right, so
- 53:12there we go. But then she's like, it's
- 53:13yellow. It's.
- 53:15Old. It's old.
- 53:16It's got the big lights on top. There's a man driving it wearing
- 53:19a trucker's cap. And it has the license plate
- 53:21number of. KZL three O 3 So she did good
- 53:27drunk drunk as a skunk she still did really good.
- 53:29It probably helps that there was also like that license plate
- 53:32number was written multiple times in the bathroom.
- 53:34But she did good. So he is like, OK, cool, we're
- 53:39going to get you taken care of. And they start to go outside.
- 53:43Oh, what do you know? The truck's there.
- 53:45So the cop, Officer Deacon, goes out.
- 53:47He talks to the guy, and the truck drives off.
- 53:50And Nicole comes down and goes, why aren't you arresting him?
- 53:52She goes, he said he's lost. I can't just arrest him like
- 53:55that. That's not how this works.
- 53:57He's a like reasonable suspicion.
- 53:59You can detain him. Yeah.
- 54:01It's the thing like wait wait, you can detain him until a shit
- 54:03gets solved. Is he being detained?
- 54:05Is he being detained? I'm a corporation.
- 54:08I'm just traveling. I'm lost.
- 54:10I'm a lost corporation. I'm a lost sovereign citizen,
- 54:14yeah. And then here's that moment I
- 54:18was talking about before. Yeah.
- 54:19Well, because he's like, I'm going to call for crack up.
- 54:21It'll be OK. We're still gonna get you taken
- 54:22care of. And we'll we'll get to the
- 54:23bottom of what happened to your boyfriend and then the truck
- 54:26just for. It's so predictable.
- 54:28You can see it coming, but then I just love like I think the
- 54:31thing that also makes it funny is that she doesn't react to it.
- 54:34She doesn't scream no or anything.
- 54:36She just stares and looks over at him and like the camera like
- 54:39slowly pans and it's like, help me.
- 54:41It's just like. Maybe maybe it's ghost Tracy
- 54:45talking in her, but she's like, well, you kind of deserved that.
- 54:48This out of proportion response to you doing something bad,
- 54:53which in this case is not believing me.
- 54:55Yeah, I tried to tell you. Yeah, I tried to tell you.
- 54:58And so she's like, all right, cool, let me move you.
- 55:02And before she can move him very far, the truck make sure to run
- 55:05back over his legs a few times. Those kneecaps are fucked.
- 55:10So she ends up driving or dragging him into the bathroom.
- 55:14The truck drives off again and this is where we have this long
- 55:18moment of him just kind of talking about his kids drag.
- 55:22Him so far into the bathroom instead of into the office.
- 55:27I know, I feel like you're better off in the office.
- 55:29Man, yeah, Bad things haven't happened to you in the office.
- 55:32Bad. Like Bob Belcher said, bad
- 55:36things happen in the bathroom. It's true.
- 55:40Yeah, it's strange, I guess because we're watching a movie
- 55:43called Rest Stop. We got to make it happen at the
- 55:45rest stop, the whole. Rest stop is the rest stop, not
- 55:48just the restroom. No, the whole thing is the rest
- 55:50stop. The rest stop is the area.
- 55:52All right, all right. True, true.
- 55:55Either way, they're in there. He's talking about his kids and
- 55:58he's just talking about. Yeah, he's retiring soon, right?
- 56:02No, his son just had a birthday. That's a pop.
- 56:04Cliche he. Was bored of them.
- 56:05I knew he was bored of them. There's something like cheesy
- 56:10that's happening with this guy, right?
- 56:11Here. Yeah.
- 56:12Well, first he was like when I was in the war, my Sergeant said
- 56:17when you're hurt and bad, it's an OK thing, but it's when you
- 56:21when it don't hurt so bad that you're in trouble.
- 56:23And Nicole, it don't hurt so bad.
- 56:30Oh, boy. And then she's like, well, let
- 56:32me scooch you a little bit more on the floor.
- 56:34And he goes and she's like, see, you're not going to die.
- 56:37And then he's like, my son just turned 3.
- 56:40I got him a little toy motorcycle.
- 56:43And he's like, pull out my wallet.
- 56:47And you at this point, you're like, is he paralyzed?
- 56:49And I was like, I think we're meant to believe that.
- 56:51Yeah, they didn't make it super queer.
- 56:53Yeah, but like he's not moving anything.
- 56:55Anymore so. It's.
- 56:56It makes sense. Yeah, the vertebrae up near the
- 57:00neck after you've been snapped. So yeah, he's just talking about
- 57:06his son, his wife and his regrets.
- 57:08And of course we know he's going to end up dying, but he's like,
- 57:11I'm going to call for backup first.
- 57:12I feel like if you have your radio on you, you can do that
- 57:16now. That's the thing, like, I don't
- 57:18think, I don't even know. But he, I think it's also funny.
- 57:21He's like, it's OK, backup's coming.
- 57:22And she's like, no, they're not. She's like never called backup.
- 57:26And of course, at this point, we don't know that he's a figment
- 57:29of her imagination. We think that he's real.
- 57:32And so he's like, grab my gun. You, you got to be ready to
- 57:37shoot him. The guy comes back and he starts
- 57:42locking the door like he's wrapping a wire around.
- 57:45And he's like, don't let him trap you in here.
- 57:46Don't let him trap you in here. So she pries off the plate of
- 57:49the door and that's when the killer comes up and he just
- 57:51bites off her finger for fun. She should have known.
- 57:54I saw that one coming. Like come.
- 57:56On he's pretending he's not there yeah and that happens and
- 58:00she's. Despondent.
- 58:02She's like, I don't there's nothing we can do now it's all
- 58:06over and he's like, no, listen, you got to take the gun and
- 58:10shoot at him next time he comes by.
- 58:12And she does, but she's a bad shot because her trigger finger
- 58:16has been bitten off. Yeah, that's actually fair.
- 58:19I mean, she's also. Just shooting blindly through
- 58:21the door. Yeah, she's doing.
- 58:22She's actually being pretty terrible here.
- 58:24But she's. Also like underwater, this this
- 58:26gun is also a figment of her imagination, so I'll give her.
- 58:29Air some leeway. That's true.
- 58:30You would think that she would imagine shooting the guy, but I
- 58:33guess she needs that realism for once the cop is gone.
- 58:37Like I mean we we established already.
- 58:39Her mind is her worst enemy. She is her own.
- 58:41She is her own demon. Yeah.
- 58:44And the guy drops in a camcorder and she looks at the camcorder
- 58:50and it's video of just being tortured, presumably, like,
- 58:54recorded over their sex tape just for the added, like, insult
- 58:58to injury. Yeah.
- 59:00Yeah. This is better material here.
- 59:01Yeah. And he's like, fucking
- 59:06boyfriend. I thought that this was video
- 59:10was going to end with him going Nicole, if you're listening to
- 59:13this, I'm so fucked. He does say that.
- 59:17I thought it was just going to end.
- 59:19There he then. Does go on to say I love you and
- 59:22I'm sorry, but I thought it was just going to end with him
- 59:24saying I'm so fucked. Yeah, I wasn't expecting that to
- 59:29come from. Him there but like man, yeah,
- 59:31you are fucked. Yeah, so.
- 59:36Then we start getting gasoline into the bathroom, and Nicole
- 59:40was like, all right, cool. There's a skylight.
- 59:42I've got this popped open. He's like, I can't.
- 59:45Deacon's like, I can't climb that.
- 59:46I can't. What are you?
- 59:48I couldn't even get my wallet out of my pocket.
- 59:50What are you talking about? She goes, I'll go get help.
- 59:52He goes, he is going to burn me. Don't let me burn.
- 59:54I do not want to burn. Please shoot me.
- 59:57And she's like, I don't want it. He goes shoot me.
- 59:59And so she sticks the gun in his mouth and shoots him, and we see
- 1:00:03Brain on the floor and she's crying.
- 1:00:05And then you miss. There's something.
- 1:00:10Kind of funny about it too. You miss It is horrifying and
- 1:00:14hilarious at the same time. It is, yeah.
- 1:00:17And so she shoots him again. Those were the last two.
- 1:00:19Bullets. This is like bringing it back to
- 1:00:22Austin Powers. Mustafa or whatever.
- 1:00:25It's like I'm badly burned. I'm badly burned, but I'm still
- 1:00:28alive. All right, so now.
- 1:00:32The fire is like really started, Yeah.
- 1:00:34So she's climbing up and she's starting to climb through the.
- 1:00:37Skylight and she sees no sign of beacon on the floor at all.
- 1:00:41She just imagined a whole ass man and a weapon and a back
- 1:00:44story and a child and additional trauma.
- 1:00:47I said he Yeah, like it's just trauma all the way down.
- 1:00:51Yeah. And this place, I swear, was it.
- 1:00:54Rigged with explosives? Did they store all of the gas
- 1:00:56canisters in the county in this one rest stop running across the
- 1:01:00ceiling and or the roof and jumps?
- 1:01:02Off Joseph's the whole thing explodes every.
- 1:01:05It's a big explosion, like the whole.
- 1:01:06Thing is just demolished. The truck drives away thinking
- 1:01:10she's exploded. And she rests and reminisces
- 1:01:13about Jess and it's just sad and in the dirt.
- 1:01:18And then the truck is back and she wors it out.
- 1:01:23And when the driver comes out, she hits him over the head a lot
- 1:01:26with the tire and boom, she, you know, makes sure that she double
- 1:01:30taps is Jesse with his mouth sewn shot.
- 1:01:34Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep. And then the truck drives away.
- 1:01:39And then she has her like, all right, we're going, let's get
- 1:01:44down to business to defeat the Huns.
- 1:01:46She goes back in the office. She takes the the empty wild
- 1:01:49Turkey can. She rips up her shirt.
- 1:01:51She goes to one of the vehicles out there and pulls out its gas
- 1:01:55line and fills the thing with gas, 'cause she's making a
- 1:01:58Molotov cocktail. You got to know about cars to be
- 1:02:00able to do that. I was impressed.
- 1:02:02I I also. I also again.
- 1:02:06Appreciate the real moment here of her like doing that and being
- 1:02:09like she busts it open dripping and she's like trying to hold
- 1:02:13it. She's like fuck, and then she
- 1:02:14like. She has to kick the bottle.
- 1:02:15Up to her and she's like grab it and get it just in place like
- 1:02:17that felt so real and she is out in the.
- 1:02:22Middle of the road they have, they're like face off.
- 1:02:24It's like the end of 31 when Richard breaks out there in the
- 1:02:27middle of the road 'cause he's furious that that she got away
- 1:02:32and she gets the matches lit just on time, throws it at the
- 1:02:36truck, sees it burn. He's not in there, he's behind
- 1:02:41her. Then we cut to an unknown amount
- 1:02:45of time later, supposedly not super long, but but enough for
- 1:02:49them to rebuild an entire they say.
- 1:02:51Badly burned, but that wasn't valuable.
- 1:02:53And that thing was, it exploded like they had to rebuild dude.
- 1:02:57But it's like the guy he like comes out just painted.
- 1:03:00He just slapped a fresh coat of paint everything.
- 1:03:01But there's like even new sinks the door for the supply.
- 1:03:04Closet is a whole different door.
- 1:03:06Yeah, it's actually nice. It's not.
- 1:03:07Yeah, this is and then. All of a sudden.
- 1:03:10If you build it, they will come. All of these people are using
- 1:03:12this rest stop. It's like a tourist attraction.
- 1:03:14Yeah, it is so busy. And this person in the.
- 1:03:17Car asked him and he's like, Oh yeah, no, there's a fire here.
- 1:03:20Probably just Drifters. It's a rest stop.
- 1:03:23Who else is there? Yeah, it is literally for people
- 1:03:27drifting through and Rangers who don't show up to their jobs for
- 1:03:29a decade. Yeah, Mr. Ranger, if you did
- 1:03:31your fucking job, you know. Who did it?
- 1:03:33Yeah, you would still have your Wild Turkey and you wouldn't.
- 1:03:36Have had stale, poor friends in there.
- 1:03:38Yeah. Anyway, she goes in there and
- 1:03:40she hears the sound in the supply closet and she goes out.
- 1:03:44The Ranger comes in, he unlocks it, and it's empty.
- 1:03:47And she's like, I swear I saw somebody.
- 1:03:49I swear I heard them. And then right before credits,
- 1:03:53we cut to Nicole in the bank's supply closet bleeding out of
- 1:03:57her mouth. And then we get an after credit
- 1:04:00shot. With the.
- 1:04:01Father in the RV burying Jesse's body and Scotty taking pictures.
- 1:04:06He's like Scotty, Scotty, this is our secret.
- 1:04:08This is our secret. Yeah.
- 1:04:10What? Yeah, I don't like why are you?
- 1:04:13I. Don't need this guy.
- 1:04:14I don't need the. Winnebago family.
- 1:04:16It it just didn't need to be done.
- 1:04:19Yeah, I. I would have appreciated
- 1:04:20something just like with the trucker.
- 1:04:22Yeah. Also, I mean, we see the truck
- 1:04:24driver drive off with. Keep me playing.
- 1:04:26Yeah. Booking it with more Black Keys
- 1:04:29here this time it's actually historically accurate.
- 1:04:32Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:04:33OK. All right.
- 1:04:35So after all that, how are you feeling about this movie?
- 1:04:38I still like this movie, you know, I think that.
- 1:04:40The the moments right there where like the people don't
- 1:04:44exist, That's the type of thing that they like would typically
- 1:04:47piss me off. But I think that's the way that
- 1:04:49they handled in this movie. I thought it was actually
- 1:04:50interesting. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:52I mean, it does remind me a lot of like the black phone thing.
- 1:04:56It just, I do think they did it better.
- 1:04:59Yeah, honestly, yeah. I'm I'm sorry, I'm just not a
- 1:05:03big fan of the black phone, but. Like, yeah, I I like this movie.
- 1:05:07OK. What about you?
- 1:05:09What are you keeping your score at?
- 1:05:11What are you? Oh, I thought.
- 1:05:11I said 7 no, you said no. Overall I still.
- 1:05:14Like it? Oh, I'm.
- 1:05:15Sorry, I thought I said seven. I'm keeping it at 7:00.
- 1:05:17OK, yeah, I am too. I think it's a really good
- 1:05:20movie. It's got a few things, as we
- 1:05:21pointed out, that could be, you know, changed up.
- 1:05:23But for the most part, I think especially for something that
- 1:05:25was meant to go straight to TV like this is solid.
- 1:05:29It's really solid, yeah. More people need to watch it.
- 1:05:31I can't. Believe it's under A5.
- 1:05:33On IMDBI know I figured it would at least be a good like mid.
- 1:05:36Middle range one. Yeah.
- 1:05:39Talia, she was actually, she was pretty sleepy during this movie
- 1:05:42until part way through in which she threw a tantrum.
- 1:05:44Yeah, she did. She was she.
- 1:05:48Listen, she's. Terrified of the go potty man.
- 1:05:51That's true. She warns us about the go potty
- 1:05:53killer all the time when she goes outside at night and barks.
- 1:05:56It's also just like the fact that a car ride went wrong.
- 1:05:59Yeah, so not good. This is terrifying for her.
- 1:06:02I think she would actually give this a nine.
- 1:06:04Yeah, I think so too. Yeah.
- 1:06:06Who is Zoe's ultimate? Warrior I think.
- 1:06:12That's a good one. It can't be Nicole because
- 1:06:15Nicole found food and then spat it.
- 1:06:17Out. She didn't actually eat it.
- 1:06:19No, that's what Zoe's been doing with our fucking.
- 1:06:21Bread. Zoe's been stealing our bread.
- 1:06:23She broke. Into our place.
- 1:06:25Stole bread even though she lives here.
- 1:06:26She broke into the cabinet is what I'm talking about.
- 1:06:28Stole our bread multiple times in a week and she just spat it
- 1:06:32back out. It's not even like a Jean
- 1:06:34Valjean situation where she was. Trying to feed her sister's
- 1:06:36child? No, no, it.
- 1:06:40Is it's Nicole? Yeah.
- 1:06:42All right. OK.
- 1:06:45What is your dream? Sequel to this movie or?
- 1:06:47Rather do. You want to know who you related
- 1:06:49to 1st and then we'll do Dream Sequel.
- 1:06:50Yeah, I related to the killer's. Music.
- 1:06:54Musical tastes. OK.
- 1:06:56Yeah. OK.
- 1:06:57Come on. Man, like that was just.
- 1:06:59This is an easy 1 for me. This time, what about you?
- 1:07:04I guess you can relate. To Nicole for.
- 1:07:08Witnessing somebody get a thorough ex ran over.
- 1:07:13Except I don't. Who handled it better?
- 1:07:16Are you? I was.
- 1:07:18You didn't drag your friend away.
- 1:07:20Yeah. No, I was not an adult.
- 1:07:21I was there until. The ambulance got there man.
- 1:07:28I guess I related to Jesse because my name is Jesse.
- 1:07:31OK, here we go. And the phone had no.
- 1:07:34Battery. OK, you're also an actor.
- 1:07:40You've acted I'm a background. Actor no you've.
- 1:07:43Done other things. Either way, you've got an
- 1:07:45acting. You've got a filmography, OK?
- 1:07:47You got one more than Jesse. His is just a sex tape that
- 1:07:51ended up over cable TV or some shit.
- 1:07:54OK. All right, now Dream sequel OK
- 1:08:00I. Man, I was like.
- 1:08:04AI want to say like maybe? Nicole's parents.
- 1:08:07And Jesse's parents are looking for them, and it leads them to
- 1:08:11the rest stop. And we see, like, a mature,
- 1:08:16adult approach to the same situation, you know, as opposed
- 1:08:19to, like, young adults and teenagers, like, freaking out,
- 1:08:22like, an actual group instead of just being hurt.
- 1:08:24Yeah. An actual group instead.
- 1:08:26Of a solo and more grown. Adults versus like young
- 1:08:29teenagers. Not saying that that necessarily
- 1:08:32makes a difference, but I think that combination of things will
- 1:08:34give us like, different reactions to the stuff happening
- 1:08:37and it'll make the killer have to be more innovative on his
- 1:08:39own. Him too, because he's facing
- 1:08:41four people at once. That's true.
- 1:08:44Yeah. OK.
- 1:08:45I, I I. Can think that OK, I also want
- 1:08:48to see like some of the bus stuff like have him take one of
- 1:08:52them to the bus and that's actually be there.
- 1:08:55OK, I was also thinking like it could be cool if like he like
- 1:08:59took over like a like he he started tracking down like a bus
- 1:09:03full of people that were like going on like a cross country
- 1:09:05trip. Oh my God.
- 1:09:07I mean, up the numbers. You know what?
- 1:09:08I mean, but. I like your idea a lot too.
- 1:09:11OK, all right, cool. All right.
- 1:09:15Tagline. Tagline this.
- 1:09:17Movie needs one, apparently. Ain't no rest for the wicked.
- 1:09:24It's a. Long Road home life is a
- 1:09:27highway. That's stupid and cheesy and I
- 1:09:31want to go with that one. I mean, she's cheesy, you know
- 1:09:36what I mean? Yeah.
- 1:09:36That's what I'm saying. Like she's cheesy.
- 1:09:39Unless we want to figure out something to incorporate.
- 1:09:41Demons. Yeah, my inner demon.
- 1:09:44Something about that. What was it?
- 1:09:46What was the graffiti that you finished?
- 1:09:49Off like he followed me, he followed me, stole the TP, took
- 1:09:52all the TP, he followed me, took all the.
- 1:09:54TP OK with that? Followed me, took all the TP.
- 1:10:02Oh, OK, can we change? It are you trying to do it?
- 1:10:04I was trying to see if that. We I I don't want to try and
- 1:10:07come up with. 17 syllables right now, I yeah, we can't.
- 1:10:12Do that. I'm going to run that through,
- 1:10:13through some checkers if I'm going to get it right.
- 1:10:16So he followed me. And he took all the TPK ZL33 no,
- 1:10:27KZL 3 three. You have to do a dash.
- 1:10:30We can't do a no. It's too many syllables.
- 1:10:33I'm just going to say Cuzzle. It's not how that works.
- 1:10:37You can just make things the number of.
- 1:10:39Syllables you want them to be. I can.
- 1:10:44I'm the only one that's going to believe it.
- 1:10:47OK, whatever. I like that.
- 1:10:48Let's just do that, OK? It's close enough to haiku that
- 1:10:52we'll. We'll, we'll count.
- 1:10:53This one time I think you should just do KZL 3 and then put like
- 1:10:57a. Dash.
- 1:10:58So KZL 3 three. OK, let's do that.
- 1:11:00Let's do that, and it's our. Own bad graffiti much like.
- 1:11:04Yeah, OK. Yeah, unhelpful.
- 1:11:06All right. Cool.
- 1:11:08Well, or do. Like a question mark?
- 1:11:10Like he can't remember the inner number.
- 1:11:13Yeah, there we go, JZL 3. 3/3. OK, all right, time for reviews.
- 1:11:19Time for reviews. I found one on.
- 1:11:21Reddit that I really. Liked and I wanted to go with
- 1:11:24that because I was like, you know what?
- 1:11:26This is such an old movie. It's really before Reddit's
- 1:11:28heyday. So I want to, I want to see what
- 1:11:30people on Reddit think. OK cool, this movie is my go to
- 1:11:36for utter. Shit, film it.
- 1:11:38Felt like 4 drunk people wrote this with different ideas than
- 1:11:40had someone who was more drunk and high off turpentine mash
- 1:11:43them all together. This movie made me feel hungover
- 1:11:45at the end and angry. Like I just felt for someone's
- 1:11:48mean joke. Shit movie.
- 1:11:49It was a cinematic version of being the designated driver for
- 1:11:52your friend's bachelor party. God damn brutal.
- 1:11:56Not entirely inaccurate with it being a bunch of like, ideas
- 1:11:59tossed together. That's The thing is like he did
- 1:12:01call some of it, yeah. Damn, so it is multiple people
- 1:12:06in there. You can see some unfinished.
- 1:12:07Ideas and some things that don't necessarily mesh super well, but
- 1:12:10I think it's fun still. I think it's actually really
- 1:12:13effective for what they were working with.
- 1:12:14Yeah, I I liked it. I have a good time with it.
- 1:12:18All right. Well, I guess that means it's
- 1:12:20time for a listener reviews. Yes, OK, we do have one.
- 1:12:23OK, it is from Cube saves on Instagram.
- 1:12:26Who says feels like part of this 2000 sub genre of they're
- 1:12:30already dead movies? I love 2000s horror.
- 1:12:33Me too man. I I people should on that decade
- 1:12:36for horror but like I like it. And here's the thing, we didn't
- 1:12:39expect 2 fake outs of people already being dead.
- 1:12:42That's true. The second one got me.
- 1:12:46What was the driver doing when he supposedly hit the cop?
- 1:12:50Maybe he was, like, stunned. Like you're just like, there's
- 1:12:54like going back and forth in front of her.
- 1:12:56Like, and she's just going, he's like, why is she so freaked out?
- 1:13:01Like, oh, well, I guess I'll keep going.
- 1:13:02Yeah, yeah, he's, he's just trying to impress.
- 1:13:06All right, he also towed. The motorcycle he did, he towed.
- 1:13:11The motorcycle? Wait, what was he actually doing
- 1:13:14when? She was seeing him tie the
- 1:13:16motorcycle up to a chain on the back of his truck.
- 1:13:22Maybe he was just putting the chain on the back of the truck
- 1:13:25'cause he's like, well, she didn't like me going back and
- 1:13:26forth. She really won't like the sound
- 1:13:28of chains. What if this guy is also just
- 1:13:30killing imaginary people in his mind?
- 1:13:33It's somebody else entirely, like they're having a group
- 1:13:35psychosis. Yeah.
- 1:13:36This is just like something right here.
- 1:13:38That's just maybe. Maybe.
- 1:13:39There was something in the old wild.
- 1:13:42Turkey. And on one of her trips to the
- 1:13:43bathroom, he went in and drank the wild Turkey.
- 1:13:46So they're actually, like, hallucinating together.
- 1:13:48Could be, could have been spiked.
