- 0:00Speaker 1: So joining me on the line right now to actually
- 0:02Speaker 1: tell us a little bit more about this is the
- 0:04Speaker 1: COLP remember four, Catherine, Joe Hersey. Good morning Joe, Good.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Morning Katie, and good morning listening. Joe.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Please tell me this isn't the case. What's happened?
- 0:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so overnight Katie, the BP and Catherine had about
- 0:24Speaker 2: four people go into with a machete. I've been down
- 0:28Speaker 2: speaking to the manager and she showed me the footage
- 0:31Speaker 2: and I have to tell you it is the two
- 0:34Speaker 2: people on was the woman that was involved before and
- 0:37Speaker 2: her husband and they have high tailed out the back
- 0:41Speaker 2: on the footage of the guy with this massive machete
- 0:46Speaker 2: and another one had a spear in there. He's just
- 0:50Speaker 2: got that kill out and gone. It is just discussing
- 0:57Speaker 2: to watch it and I couldn't even imagine if somebody
- 1:00Speaker 2: came into your business with a machete that he has.
- 1:04Speaker 2: But also the manager of United came just to check
- 1:08Speaker 2: if they were okay. While I was talking to the
- 1:10Speaker 2: manager of BP, and they had an attack at their place.
- 1:13Speaker 2: They had shuttle locked all their doors and were just
- 1:17Speaker 2: using the night window. But he said that obviously wasn't
- 1:19Speaker 2: good enough for some people and they've smashed the window
- 1:21Speaker 2: which by their night window. It is just my god,
- 1:26Speaker 2: the fact that these people, the manager at VP manager said,
- 1:31Speaker 2: these people at this point aren't known to police. So
- 1:37Speaker 2: anyway the police of the lady in BP could not
- 1:40Speaker 2: the manager cannot speak highly enough of the police. But
- 1:43Speaker 2: the disturbing thing. She showed me a whole heap of
- 1:46Speaker 2: files of what happened in the last six months that
- 1:48Speaker 2: they've reported. But fifteen times they have been attacked, you know,
- 1:55Speaker 2: not necessarily broken into because they're twenty four hours a day,
- 1:59Speaker 2: but people have been in there, you know, threatening their
- 2:03Speaker 2: stuff with weapons and things. Fifteen times in the last
- 2:07Speaker 2: four months. Absolutely not accepted.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So the thing about this is, you know, obviously the government,
- 2:15Speaker 1: you know, we've spoken about what has gone on in
- 2:17Speaker 1: bottle shops, so we've seen what's gone on at bottle shops.
- 2:19Speaker 1: But you are talking about petrol stations.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Now, correct, correct.
- 2:25Speaker 1: It's mortified.
- 2:26Speaker 2: A couple of years ago, there was someone that doubts
- 2:29Speaker 2: themselves in petro and the person, the attendant inside came
- 2:32Speaker 2: out to put that person, you know, tour them out,
- 2:35Speaker 2: and I trouble it. You know, it's just this is
- 2:38Speaker 2: not the kind of thing that people expect to happen
- 2:41Speaker 2: when they go to work. They want to just go
- 2:43Speaker 2: to work, do their job, earn their money, and go home.
- 2:47Speaker 2: They should not be having to deal with this kind
- 2:49Speaker 2: of behavior. They certainly shouldn't feel like they need to
- 2:53Speaker 2: get security guards.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Oh, it's unbelievable. Honestly, it's this is exactly the kind
- 2:59Speaker 1: of thing that I'm talking about, you know, when I'm
- 3:00Speaker 1: interviewing the Chief Minister and saying that we've all had
- 3:03Speaker 1: a gutfull. But what really I find so disturbing and
- 3:06Speaker 1: upsetting is I think of that poor woman, that young
- 3:10Speaker 1: woman who has already been assaulted. So, Joe, you are
- 3:14Speaker 1: telling me it is the same the same young woman whose.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Same woman and her husband that were on a shift together.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Are they okay?
- 3:23Speaker 2: Probably so she's feel safe.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yeah, how have you spoken to them today?
- 3:30Speaker 2: No, I haven't spoken to them, Katie. I've just spoken
- 3:33Speaker 2: to the manager of BP. Yeah. But she's you know,
- 3:37Speaker 2: she's angry. She has I said, you need to written
- 3:41Speaker 2: Katie will. She said, they don't want me on. I've
- 3:44Speaker 2: hardly had any sleep, and I'll tell them exactly what
- 3:46Speaker 2: I You know, she's a pretty woman, this woman that
- 3:51Speaker 2: manages VP, and I say, she's exactly the person for
- 3:53Speaker 2: the job. But she is not backward in coming forward
- 3:56Speaker 2: and she doesn't mind, you know, chasing people out all.
- 4:00Speaker 2: But that's not everyone that you know, you shouldn't have
- 4:02Speaker 2: to do that.
- 4:02Speaker 1: You shouldn't have to, Joe. You shouldn't have to be
- 4:07Speaker 1: you know, able to be a security guard, to work
- 4:11Speaker 1: in a retail job. It's just unbelievable. It's reached the
- 4:15Speaker 1: point of being beyond ridiculous and beyond frustrating.
- 4:20Speaker 2: We've all had enough. I mean, people have just people
- 4:24Speaker 2: I've spoken me this morning, they have just had a
- 4:27Speaker 2: gutful and to hear the Chief Minister to go on
- 4:30Speaker 2: and on and not answer any questions. You know, if
- 4:35Speaker 2: you've backed yourself into a corner, Yeah, you haven't tolkedble
- 4:38Speaker 2: Joe somewhere along the line, just own it.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah. And the thing I think, the thing I found
- 4:44Speaker 1: your most frustrating is then when there is a discussion
- 4:48Speaker 1: about a global phenomena when it comes to violent crime,
- 4:51Speaker 1: like I couldn't care less. I mean, what is happening
- 4:54Speaker 1: in other parts of the world, Because right now we're
- 4:56Speaker 1: all so concerned about what is happening in our patch
- 5:00Speaker 1: because it's so frightening and so scary for people.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Yeah, correct, correct, Yeah, it is just beyond beyond fathoming.
- 5:13Speaker 2: What is going to happen next, you know, And if
- 5:16Speaker 2: these people aren't caught, who are they going to go
- 5:19Speaker 2: and harass and potentially you know, you know, put someone
- 5:24Speaker 2: else's life in danger while they're at work.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Honestly, I don't even know what else to say. Joe,
- 5:32Speaker 1: I am, I'm really sorry. Yeah, I'm gonna have to
- 5:35Speaker 1: leave it there because we've got a head across to
- 5:37Speaker 1: the National News. Thank you so much for coming on
- 5:39Speaker 1: this morning and letting us know what is going on
- 5:42Speaker 1: in Catherine. We'll probably catch up with you a bit
- 5:45Speaker 1: later in the week if we can.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Yeah, no worries.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Thank you, Joe, much appreciated you too. Thanks
