- 0:40Speaker 1: on NHL Unscripted, and of course our producer te speaking
- 0:43Speaker 1: of the stars, Tale and Nate attaining the Heated Rivalry
- 0:46Speaker 1: premiere last night, Nate first and foremost, we interviewed Ashton James.
- 0:49Speaker 1: The interview is coming up today. Great guy Canadian. He's
- 0:52Speaker 1: the star of this new film with Jope.
- 0:53Speaker 2: He's a big hit.
- 0:54Speaker 1: He actually remembered you and tal in the red carpet.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Are you kidding me?
- 0:57Speaker 3: Wait?
- 0:57Speaker 2: Did you say the heated rivalry?
- 0:59Speaker 4: Young Blood, Young Blood Blood?
- 1:00Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Sorry, he did riberies taking on my mind young Blood movie.
- 1:03Speaker 1: That's right. At the star young Blood, Young Bludd.
- 1:05Speaker 2: You got it on the brain. You got old Ilio
- 1:07Speaker 2: Rosanoff on the brain.
- 1:09Speaker 4: There's still a lot of passion in that film.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Last night, I'll tell that for sure.
- 1:13Speaker 1: But he can over and saw you guys as chat
- 1:15Speaker 1: you up.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Yeah, he was great.
- 1:17Speaker 5: I mean just uh, you know, I was just chatting
- 1:19Speaker 5: with Luke for a little bit, a few other guys
- 1:21Speaker 5: from The Kings, Luke, Luke Roboti, Corey Perry was there,
- 1:26Speaker 5: a couple of guys.
- 1:26Speaker 4: But yeah, he came right over, joked around that.
- 1:29Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:29Speaker 5: I'd interviewed him here on Unscripted and on NHL Network
- 1:33Speaker 5: within like a week and a half.
- 1:34Speaker 4: So it was a great film. I mean, he he
- 1:37Speaker 4: did a great job.
- 1:38Speaker 5: And just a just a really really nice guy, a
- 1:41Speaker 5: tal like he was just came over just chat with us.
- 1:45Speaker 4: But great job on the film. I had a great
- 1:47Speaker 4: time last night.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Tal Ashton James his sisters first time in LA.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 1:51Speaker 1: She's canaided, I'm assuming first time.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:53Speaker 2: The family's from Toronto.
- 1:54Speaker 6: He's from Saint Lucia originally, but they're from Toronto. And yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 6: I spoke with his sister a little bit her first
- 2:00Speaker 6: time in LA, like.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Hey, it's pretty cool. I was very excited for them.
- 2:04Speaker 6: You know, a little brother is starring in a feature film,
- 2:07Speaker 6: and you got to give him credit. Like Nate said,
- 2:09Speaker 6: he was the center of attention last night, and he
- 2:12Speaker 6: made a point to come to us and hang and
- 2:14Speaker 6: chat it up a little bit.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And just a.
- 2:16Speaker 6: Great guy and very humble, like I'm looking forward to
- 2:20Speaker 6: seeing him losing that humility as he becomes an a lister.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Well, it's because you guys are such great interviewers. Wow,
- 2:28Speaker 2: and he loved it. I love it. You've made an.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Impression that dripping with sarcasm.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Where's the punchline?
- 2:38Speaker 2: Now, No, there's none.
- 2:39Speaker 7: I was just pissed I wasn't allowed to audition as
- 2:42Speaker 7: the role of the villain or something.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Man, this trites it all along. There's an old racist
- 2:47Speaker 1: could have been that guy when they said this an
- 2:49Speaker 1: all black young lub, great demurs, canna be the racist?
- 2:51Speaker 2: No problem?
- 2:53Speaker 1: French that sleep play.
- 2:55Speaker 7: He's offered me to play a racist and misogynist in
- 2:58Speaker 7: every movie that's come out in Hockey.
- 2:59Speaker 1: He's French Canadian like he can do that this sleep
- 3:01Speaker 1: no problem? Like, that's that's great.
- 3:03Speaker 7: When I have had him about that premiere to the
- 3:06Speaker 7: Blood of my ancestors.
- 3:07Speaker 6: Blair Blair Underwood was there last night too, I love
- 3:10Speaker 6: Blair has not aged a lick.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I'll have locked out. He looks incredible.
- 3:14Speaker 5: How about the suit he was wearing too tall? Like
- 3:16Speaker 5: he was the best best dressed guy in the whole
- 3:18Speaker 5: theater last night.
- 3:19Speaker 4: He looked great.
- 3:20Speaker 1: All right, Well, look look it up to how old
- 3:22Speaker 1: Blair Underwood is. I'm gonna say, like fifty eight whatever,
- 3:24Speaker 1: whatever age is.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I like fifty eight, that's a good guess. I'd say
- 3:27Speaker 2: fifty six over fifty. Pick the classic prices, right tactics.
- 3:32Speaker 1: I think the eighties nineties people who Blair Underwood is, Yeah,
- 3:36Speaker 1: good looking guy, Like if he's if you're telling me
- 3:38Speaker 1: this guy's like sixty seven, I'm like, what you're ready?
- 3:41Speaker 2: I got the answer. It's sixty one years old.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Woa, they nailed it. It took me over years.
- 3:49Speaker 2: What a hot man?
- 3:50Speaker 8: Have?
- 3:50Speaker 2: What you're having?
- 3:51Speaker 8: Please?
- 3:51Speaker 1: I love it. So let's go to the trade deadline
- 3:53Speaker 1: because I feel like as we're recording this, more moose
- 3:55Speaker 1: will come. But the big day is coming up on Friday.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Various players mentioned lately A his potential trade targets will
- 4:00Speaker 1: go through fielding, but Jad right out of the gate.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Just as we're about to record, Tyler Myers to DA
- 4:04Speaker 1: Dallas as recording. They're on a ten game wins cheek
- 4:07Speaker 1: right now? How fun is that division? The Avalanche, you
- 4:09Speaker 1: feel like they're the class of the division. The Stars
- 4:11Speaker 1: of one ten straight the wild they're't gooding or are?
- 4:12Speaker 1: They won last night seven five against the Montreal Canadians.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Your thoughts of Myers to Dallas and the Stars team
- 4:18Speaker 1: right now?
- 4:20Speaker 7: Listen in that the and this is the sad thing
- 4:22Speaker 7: and why you know we it's going to be exciting
- 4:25Speaker 7: for the first two rounds in that Central Division, but
- 4:27Speaker 7: after that it's going to be such a want want
- 4:29Speaker 7: once because at the end of the day, two of
- 4:32Speaker 7: those three teams are out of the playoffs after the
- 4:34Speaker 7: second round because Colorado's gonna start whoever they play in
- 4:37Speaker 7: the first round, and then you roll in you're either
- 4:39Speaker 7: getting Minnesota or Dallas. So all of those teams are
- 4:43Speaker 7: like kind of forced into making a move because you
- 4:45Speaker 7: can't just sit back because you're going to get blown
- 4:47Speaker 7: out of the water in the first round. So it's
- 4:49Speaker 7: kind of tough, but you know, if you can make
- 4:51Speaker 7: your way through that. But when you look at the
- 4:53Speaker 7: Tyler Myers specifically, you know right now they you know,
- 4:56Speaker 7: you're you're looking down that right side. They had Labushkin
- 5:00Speaker 7: lung Quist kind of playing, you know, back and forth.
- 5:02Speaker 7: They haven't found a partner for Thomas Harley and they
- 5:06Speaker 7: finally go out and get him. And I think Tyler
- 5:08Speaker 7: Myers people might be down on him because he's been
- 5:09Speaker 7: in Vancouver in that absolute shithole of an organization the
- 5:13Speaker 7: past couple of years.
- 5:14Speaker 2: But they've just they've lost their way. You can call
- 5:17Speaker 2: it out.
- 5:17Speaker 7: Sometimes it's good, sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit, and
- 5:20Speaker 7: right now it's shit.
- 5:21Speaker 2: But getting him the big body.
- 5:24Speaker 7: And we were kind of just talking before the show started,
- 5:26Speaker 7: like you got Tyler Myers, you got Liam Bischell, you
- 5:28Speaker 7: got Essa Lindell, Hayskinnen and Harley aren't small guys either.
- 5:33Speaker 2: This is a big back end. They can all move.
- 5:36Speaker 7: So I think this is going to be very interesting
- 5:38Speaker 7: and it it gives them, you know, probably a top
- 5:41Speaker 7: three back end I think in the league right now
- 5:44Speaker 7: with Tyler Myers there.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Yeah, Dallas is a legit contender. But Nate, how much
- 5:47Speaker 1: separation do you see between Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Not much.
- 5:52Speaker 5: It seems like these three teams are kind of play
- 5:55Speaker 5: off each other. And it's like who who can make
- 5:58Speaker 5: the bigger trade. I mean, for me, these three teams,
- 6:00Speaker 5: it's going into the trade light. It always seems like, Okay,
- 6:02Speaker 5: who's going to get the guy? They're all basically competing
- 6:06Speaker 5: for some of the same players. I look at you know,
- 6:09Speaker 5: Minnesota and Colorado, and I don't see them being done.
- 6:12Speaker 5: I don't see Dallas being done either, JD. Like I
- 6:14Speaker 5: don't think that they're done here even.
- 6:15Speaker 2: After Jim Neils swings a big dick.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:18Speaker 5: I mean, and and you're right, that's what it is.
- 6:21Speaker 5: I think these three gms between Billy Ga, so there's Bill, Garret, Bill,
- 6:26Speaker 5: all of them.
- 6:27Speaker 4: I think that's they know what's at stake because you
- 6:30Speaker 4: said it, j D.
- 6:30Speaker 5: I think they know that two out of the three
- 6:33Speaker 5: teams are going to be done after two rounds, and
- 6:36Speaker 5: they they know that's their reality. So at the end
- 6:38Speaker 5: of the day, they have to get through the first
- 6:39Speaker 5: two rounds. I mean especially, I mean all three of them.
- 6:43Speaker 5: You could say all three of them, because in the
- 6:44Speaker 5: situation they're at with the teams they have, I mean
- 6:47Speaker 5: I would they're all contenders, so it's a collision course
- 6:51Speaker 5: no matter what. So I see Minnesota and Colorado and Dallas.
- 6:55Speaker 5: They're not done yet. When we're going to get into
- 6:57Speaker 5: it more, but they're not done well.
- 6:59Speaker 7: Dallas is intriguing though, guys, and it's guys because you
- 7:01Speaker 7: hear all the noise about you know, keith Yandle put
- 7:04Speaker 7: it so well. Jason Robinson, Uh, I could get you
- 7:07Speaker 7: get my wife's name, Rod Robertson. But you know they're
- 7:12Speaker 7: bringing in money right now. Obviously they have a lot
- 7:14Speaker 7: to play with the second dead cap, with his injury
- 7:18Speaker 7: and on LTIR. But man, I feel like the Jason Robertson,
- 7:22Speaker 7: I feel like, if you can't get a deal done,
- 7:24Speaker 7: I don't think you forced the trade now, but I
- 7:27Speaker 7: think you got to keep him just how hot he's
- 7:29Speaker 7: how hot he's playing right now. But if there's a
- 7:31Speaker 7: way to make a trade. We heard rumors of Brady
- 7:33Speaker 7: could chuck. That comes up every year, but I just
- 7:35Speaker 7: don't I don't see it. I think Robertson's just been
- 7:37Speaker 7: playing too well for them to get rid of him.
- 7:39Speaker 7: It's too big of a risk. They're humming ten straight
- 7:42Speaker 7: hot as epistols.
- 7:43Speaker 1: JD would say, let's go through some name by names here, fellas,
- 7:46Speaker 1: and we'll try to predict just a likely being traded
- 7:49Speaker 1: where they're gonna go. So Natal open up to you,
- 7:51Speaker 1: Vincent Trocheck, where's he going?
- 7:54Speaker 2: Is he going?
- 7:55Speaker 5: Yeah, he's going And everyone's saying Minnesota. But the one
- 7:59Speaker 5: that jumps out for me, and I know he already
- 8:00Speaker 5: played there and it didn't work out that well before
- 8:02Speaker 5: was Carolina. I just the center depth that they need,
- 8:06Speaker 5: and it just seems like if they're gonna, you know,
- 8:09Speaker 5: they're going to compete with like let's say at Tampa
- 8:12Speaker 5: in the East, they need to have some center, more
- 8:14Speaker 5: center depth. And Vinnie Trocheck is you know, he's a
- 8:17Speaker 5: glue guy. He's a guy that you know he can
- 8:21Speaker 5: he'd be he can be your safety blanket in a
- 8:22Speaker 5: lot of different situations on that team, playing in a
- 8:27Speaker 5: two C, one, A one B, whatever whatever you want
- 8:29Speaker 5: to call it role. I think that would be the
- 8:32Speaker 5: biggest fit for me. I think if him wanting to
- 8:35Speaker 5: stay in the East, like he's expressing that with everybody, Yeah, I.
- 8:40Speaker 7: Think Billy Garin's got such a rage and hard on
- 8:42Speaker 7: for Trocheck, He's going to try to get him. But
- 8:44Speaker 7: I know the price is really high because Drewy unfortunately
- 8:49Speaker 7: has made mistake after mistake, and he needs to get
- 8:52Speaker 7: a return for Trocheck. The other team that I have
- 8:55Speaker 7: because I'm playing hypotheticals here, that what I would like
- 8:58Speaker 7: to see and is Utah. I think the Utah Mammoth
- 9:03Speaker 7: could benefit from getting a legitimate two see in Vincent
- 9:07Speaker 7: Trocheck and then you kind of you're carting out Cooley
- 9:11Speaker 7: Schmaltz and in Vincent Trocheck I think would be fantastic,
- 9:14Speaker 7: and thenk Kevin Stinlin is your fourth. I think they're
- 9:16Speaker 7: gonna they're in the market to take a big swing,
- 9:18Speaker 7: and they're in on everybody apparently, So he's one that
- 9:21Speaker 7: I would would like to see potentially go there if
- 9:24Speaker 7: they can pull it off.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, he said it's more of a wishful thinking,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and Trochick said he won't go to the West, so
- 9:28Speaker 1: that's probably not going to happen. Next up an awesome
- 9:31Speaker 1: Cadrick Stanley Cup champion obviously this year declined production the
- 9:35Speaker 1: Calgary Flames, but he's the kind of guy who you
- 9:36Speaker 1: could imagine would be well motivated, a veteran down the stretch,
- 9:40Speaker 1: proven winner, et cetera.
- 9:41Speaker 3: JD.
- 9:42Speaker 1: How about nos, where's he.
- 9:43Speaker 7: Going Montreal or Colorado after last night too. They need
- 9:48Speaker 7: some help montrealo Colorado.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Didn't they do?
- 9:51Speaker 5: We have the same insider, we must I I was
- 9:55Speaker 5: thinking the exact same thing.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I agreed.
- 10:00Speaker 5: I think if there's one team in the East, it's Montreal.
- 10:03Speaker 5: They like Nazim Cadri is exactly what they need. And
- 10:07Speaker 5: I think knowing the player Nasim Cadri is like if
- 10:10Speaker 5: he's in Montreal with the crowd, the fans, the media,
- 10:14Speaker 5: like he played in Toronto, he was fine there and
- 10:16Speaker 5: he's gonna be I think he's going to excel in
- 10:18Speaker 5: Montreal too if he's there, especially under Mary Saint Louis,
- 10:21Speaker 5: and you know you have Nick Suzuki and Oliver cap
- 10:23Speaker 5: and I mean just the center depth changes with him there.
- 10:26Speaker 5: And then I think this it's self explanatory. Him going
- 10:29Speaker 5: to Colorado. We know what he did there and the
- 10:30Speaker 5: fit there and the familiarity. So yeah, we're, uh, we're
- 10:35Speaker 5: on the same page.
- 10:36Speaker 2: There, simar Patico.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Justin Falkton, JD. How about justin.
- 10:39Speaker 7: Falk Oh justin fuk is an interesting one because I
- 10:43Speaker 7: know Dallas. He was linked to there. He's been linked
- 10:47Speaker 7: a little bit to Buffalo. I think Buffalo is looking.
- 10:51Speaker 7: You know, they had Michael Kesslering come over in that
- 10:53Speaker 7: trade with Josh Done, and it hasn't quite panned out
- 10:56Speaker 7: for him.
- 10:56Speaker 2: And I don't know if Lindy Ruff doesn't like him.
- 10:58Speaker 7: They play him sub ten minutes a night and he
- 11:00Speaker 7: just can't seem to get his legs. But they need
- 11:02Speaker 7: somebody on the right side. And I think, because you know,
- 11:05Speaker 7: right now, they got Dolly and Samuelson, then they got
- 11:08Speaker 7: Byram and they got Owen power. You need maybe a
- 11:11Speaker 7: righty and then that kind of Slot's own power on
- 11:13Speaker 7: that third paird you get a really solid, you know,
- 11:16Speaker 7: three pairs rolling out. So I would say, for me,
- 11:19Speaker 7: I'd love to see Buffalo pulled off because.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Ah, you're saying, chip Awas Street, we need to go.
- 11:26Speaker 7: There, lay off on the road. You're telling me, I
- 11:30Speaker 7: can't stand that. Lendy Ruff's got a great team behind him.
- 11:32Speaker 7: But fuck it, let's right.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Lendy Roff is back Baby Nate for you. Justin folk
- 11:37Speaker 1: this one.
- 11:38Speaker 4: I'm going a little bit off the beaten path.
- 11:40Speaker 5: But I could see a team like Anaheim adding him,
- 11:44Speaker 5: add some depthzy cap hit, and they.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Need a guy like him, you know. I think there.
- 11:50Speaker 5: I think that Pabbeek is going to be moving some
- 11:53Speaker 5: assets from some guys that Michik, you know, maybe Minch,
- 11:57Speaker 5: but I'm saying more like a guy like Ryan Strom,
- 12:00Speaker 5: like I think he's he's not going to be there.
- 12:02Speaker 5: I think they're gonna move maybe Frank, but Rono, you
- 12:06Speaker 5: know some guys that are you know, not in their
- 12:08Speaker 5: future plans. But I could see a guy like Justin
- 12:10Speaker 5: Falk coming in. And you know, let's let me listen.
- 12:13Speaker 5: The Ducks are one point out at first place in
- 12:16Speaker 5: the average Pacific Division. But if they can add a
- 12:20Speaker 5: guy like him and make themselves better defensively, because we
- 12:23Speaker 5: know that that's probably what they're lacking more than anything,
- 12:25Speaker 5: is playing team defense. So for me, Justin Falk, you know,
- 12:29Speaker 5: he's he could be a fit n anaheimpossibly.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Does he take a lot to in the Pacific.
- 12:33Speaker 2: That's true.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Dougie Hilton meantimes a guy who's now been on several teams.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Despite the fact jad you know, he hit that massive
- 12:38Speaker 1: contract with the Devils, right, nine million dollars year, seven years,
- 12:41Speaker 1: sixty three million dollars, Jersey's not going anywhere.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Where?
- 12:45Speaker 1: Do you see Dougie going?
- 12:47Speaker 7: I don't know if you're gonna swallow some money. Yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 7: you're gonna have to sall some money, and you might
- 12:52Speaker 7: only get like a fifth rounder for him. I mean,
- 12:54Speaker 7: unless you really need I he I think as a player,
- 12:58Speaker 7: he made a huge mistake by not going to San Jose.
- 13:01Speaker 7: I know he knicks the trade to San Jose this year.
- 13:03Speaker 7: He should have went, and it would have been a
- 13:05Speaker 7: perfect fit for him, and he could have.
- 13:07Speaker 2: They probably would have.
- 13:08Speaker 7: You know, he would have been there for the rest
- 13:09Speaker 7: of his career and played in a You really helped
- 13:11Speaker 7: that team. But talking about teams that need a guy
- 13:15Speaker 7: like him, you're talking about a guy that can run,
- 13:16Speaker 7: a power play, big body. I mean, I'd go kind
- 13:19Speaker 7: of the same. It's like potentially a buffalo. I don't
- 13:21Speaker 7: know if they can swing that and they want to
- 13:23Speaker 7: give up any of their prospects, even a Utah. If
- 13:26Speaker 7: Utah's taking a swing at somebody, I think this would
- 13:29Speaker 7: be a place where he could go because that right
- 13:31Speaker 7: side is a little bit light. I like Sean Dursey,
- 13:34Speaker 7: but I think Dougie Hamilton is a is an upgrade
- 13:37Speaker 7: with size and his shot.
- 13:40Speaker 1: How do you see it? Dougie Hamilton's star has faded
- 13:43Speaker 1: quite a bit over the years.
- 13:44Speaker 4: I think another team that is intriguing to me is Seattle.
- 13:47Speaker 5: Him going there and possibly, you know, helping a team
- 13:51Speaker 5: that we know that you know, speaking of swinging for fences,
- 13:55Speaker 5: they did that with Aaron, So yeah, and there you.
- 13:59Speaker 4: Go, there's a fix a perfect Who are who are they?
- 14:03Speaker 4: What are you going to do?
- 14:03Speaker 5: But for me, it's that's a team that you know,
- 14:06Speaker 5: they're trying to get offense, they're trying to make the playoffs.
- 14:09Speaker 5: I mean, Dougie Hamilton is an intriguing for me going
- 14:11Speaker 5: to the Seattle Crackett.
- 14:12Speaker 1: All right, I want to get into the goalies because
- 14:13Speaker 1: I like what Jadd did. He was the first one
- 14:15Speaker 1: I heard mentioning Cirke Pebrovski. Before that, it was a
- 14:18Speaker 1: Flora's gonna make the playoffs. Here we go and eventually,
- 14:21Speaker 1: all y, that's just not gonna happen. And you were like,
- 14:22Speaker 1: listen watching for Pebroski thirty six years of age. You
- 14:25Speaker 1: trade him, you tank, Maybe you don't get m Kennedy
- 14:28Speaker 1: get a top five pick, et cetera. Do you think
- 14:30Speaker 1: J D Bob is on the move. I think this
- 14:31Speaker 1: would be not only a master stroke, papills, you know,
- 14:34Speaker 1: but quite fla likely by you because you're the first
- 14:36Speaker 1: one that said it. Bob gets dealt.
- 14:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I think Bob, you know, keep your eye on
- 14:42Speaker 7: Vegas because Vegas wouldn't be opposed to taking a rental
- 14:47Speaker 7: and even if they can sign him or not, because
- 14:49Speaker 7: I know Bob is looking for, you know, another big
- 14:53Speaker 7: payday after this. But I could see Vegas going further
- 14:56Speaker 7: him or Bennington.
- 14:57Speaker 2: But I think I like.
- 14:59Speaker 1: They tired of Carter Hart. They'll just go get Circa.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:01Speaker 7: And you know what, even Montreal, you're all trading away
- 15:05Speaker 7: with goalies. Yeah, but they trade back one of those
- 15:08Speaker 7: young guys to Florida. You know, they trade away at
- 15:10Speaker 7: dobash for for Bob, and now you've got Martin bow
- 15:15Speaker 7: Or they trade Moutain Bau for Bob and now you
- 15:16Speaker 7: got yeah, and then you got two of them. Even
- 15:20Speaker 7: Cam Fowler, I mean, he's one of those things, Like
- 15:23Speaker 7: I don't know where they could go with him, but
- 15:27Speaker 7: I just saw recently that they're they're now kind of
- 15:29Speaker 7: anybody that's depending UFA is on the block.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Jacob FOWLERY mean, but yeah, maybe that's a potent Jacob, Right,
- 15:35Speaker 1: I say, camp Fowler. Yeah, that's okay.
- 15:37Speaker 2: It happens smoking a joint here.
- 15:40Speaker 1: The Delta Panthers fans, I think they be irate. They're like, no,
- 15:42Speaker 1: this is our guy. We went Cups with him.
- 15:44Speaker 5: Another team that I think about is Utah. I mean
- 15:47Speaker 5: this sounds crazy too, but you know, Ryan Smith, the
- 15:50Speaker 5: owner is you know, he wants to make a splash.
- 15:52Speaker 4: They want to make the playoffs.
- 15:53Speaker 5: I know they have Amelka, but I mean why not
- 15:56Speaker 5: add I mean, who other pieces are going to go
- 15:59Speaker 5: the other way? But I mean if you're Utah and
- 16:01Speaker 5: you're adding a guy like Surrey Bebrovski and you know
- 16:04Speaker 5: you have all the other pieces of uh Schev and
- 16:07Speaker 5: Jersey you said you mentioned and the offensive Keller and
- 16:10Speaker 5: Cooley and Gunther and all these guys and you Abrabovsky
- 16:13Speaker 5: could be could be a fit.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 16:16Speaker 5: It's it is wild to talk about, though, ser Bbowski
- 16:19Speaker 5: getting dealt. Yeah, and everyone's saying, oh, yeah, he's he's
- 16:22Speaker 5: you know, he's if he gets dealt, they'll re sign
- 16:25Speaker 5: him in the summer.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Like how often does that happen? Though?
- 16:28Speaker 1: Rare people always said that every once you trade the guy,
- 16:30Speaker 1: that's it.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gone.
- 16:32Speaker 4: He's gone.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Once you open your door and tell your wife he
- 16:34Speaker 1: why don't we get separated when we just start seeing
- 16:36Speaker 1: other people? Okay, straight now, it.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Takes time apart areak.
- 16:42Speaker 1: We always get back together. That temporary break sounds like
- 16:45Speaker 1: a permanent break to me. One more here for you, Nate,
- 16:48Speaker 1: I'll give you Jordan Binnington looked phenomenal for Canada. The
- 16:51Speaker 1: Blues aren't going anywhere. Could Binner be on the move?
- 16:55Speaker 3: Absolutely?
- 16:56Speaker 5: I thought it would be more of a off season acquisition,
- 17:00Speaker 5: but I think more and more as we get closer
- 17:02Speaker 5: to the trade deadline, it seems more in that he
- 17:05Speaker 5: will get dealt uh And everyone's saying Edmonton and Edmonton's
- 17:10Speaker 5: Everyone's saying Edmonton's done.
- 17:11Speaker 4: And then you have Montreal.
- 17:12Speaker 5: The one that I thought about and I mold this
- 17:15Speaker 5: over with cap space and everything was the Pittsburgh Penguins.
- 17:19Speaker 2: With Skinner flipping Skinner.
- 17:20Speaker 4: Skinner or you or you keep Skinner and.
- 17:22Speaker 5: You double, you trade se LOFs and whatever else. Because
- 17:27Speaker 5: Kyle Dubis has assets, He has assets and a lot
- 17:30Speaker 5: of cap space, and if you add a guy like Bennington,
- 17:34Speaker 5: you know, Pittsburgh's not too far off. If you think
- 17:36Speaker 5: about it, I mean they're getting Sid the Kid back
- 17:39Speaker 5: in a few weeks, and you have guys playing like
- 17:41Speaker 5: they are, and you add a guy like joining Bennington
- 17:44Speaker 5: who we know is a gamer. I mean who knows, right,
- 17:47Speaker 5: I mean, who knows what happens they get in. So
- 17:49Speaker 5: that's that's the one that I think that you never know,
- 17:51Speaker 5: it could be a fit.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I'm remember an Neck on one of my things.
- 17:53Speaker 7: I'd love to see Dubas make a move for Justin Fock.
- 17:57Speaker 7: I think that back end could use it. I think
- 18:00Speaker 7: Skinner has been good there for him, So I don't
- 18:02Speaker 7: know if they're gonna be like but again, and that's
- 18:04Speaker 7: another one.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I think Vegas.
- 18:06Speaker 7: I think Vegas their goaltending is all sub nine hundred.
- 18:09Speaker 7: They have not gotten any goaltending. They've been a little
- 18:12Speaker 7: banged up at times aiden Hill. But I know Kelly
- 18:15Speaker 7: McCrimmon will not sit idle by in hope with Marner
- 18:20Speaker 7: bringing Marner and Rasmus Anderson and these guys here, that
- 18:27Speaker 7: he won't address the goaltending position.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Probably the biggest underachieving team this year to g right
- 18:33Speaker 5: like that.
- 18:33Speaker 7: Hey, they have more losses collectives than crazy wins.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Yeah, this is where it's interesting too, because individual players,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you know, will get move when teams aren't going anywhere.
- 18:42Speaker 1: But what happens if you're like a so called bubble team,
- 18:44Speaker 1: for example, the National Predators to me, Gendy, they should
- 18:47Speaker 1: not be buying, they should be selling. What do you
- 18:49Speaker 1: think the Predators do.
- 18:50Speaker 7: I think they should hold. I don't think they I
- 18:53Speaker 7: think they try to get in. I think if I
- 18:57Speaker 7: don't know if I would move anything significant. I know
- 19:00Speaker 7: Ryan O'Reilly's come up, and I think if it's worth it.
- 19:03Speaker 7: But the problem is with the GM position, it's tough
- 19:07Speaker 7: to do a full sell off, if you know, with
- 19:09Speaker 7: Trotz leaving before you kind of go out and bring
- 19:13Speaker 7: in somebody else.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, you can't. You need you want to.
- 19:16Speaker 7: You want your GM, your new GM coming in to
- 19:18Speaker 7: be able to put his fingerprints in the draft at
- 19:21Speaker 7: free agency. You can't just fucking empty the coffers and
- 19:25Speaker 7: then all of a sudden he comes in, he's got
- 19:26Speaker 7: nothing to work with. So I think they're they might do.
- 19:28Speaker 7: Like the mccaaren deal happened. I thought that was a
- 19:30Speaker 7: decent move. I didn't quite love it for Nashville because, like,
- 19:34Speaker 7: I'm like, why get rid of a guy?
- 19:36Speaker 8: Like that.
- 19:36Speaker 7: I'm like, you kind of keep him. He's been good,
- 19:39Speaker 7: he's a good character guy. And then what Cole Smith.
- 19:42Speaker 7: They just traded Cole Smith too, so they're trading a
- 19:44Speaker 7: lot of their depth guys. So I think they're gonna
- 19:48Speaker 7: just kind of see what happens, play their young guys
- 19:50Speaker 7: and then at the draft make a move if if
- 19:52Speaker 7: they have to.
- 19:53Speaker 1: From there, Dashville buy sell hold.
- 19:56Speaker 4: I'd say sell sell a little bit. I mean yeah,
- 19:59Speaker 4: for long term.
- 20:00Speaker 5: I think, you know, for the right price, Like if
- 20:03Speaker 5: you if you have a team like Tampa or Dallas
- 20:06Speaker 5: or one of these teams he's contending teams that comes
- 20:09Speaker 5: with a pretty big haul for a guy like you
- 20:12Speaker 5: know Stamcos or Riley Marcusol these guys, I think you
- 20:16Speaker 5: have to take a look at it just for the future,
- 20:18Speaker 5: move moving forward. I know, you know a new GM
- 20:21Speaker 5: is going to come in and put his own footprint
- 20:23Speaker 5: on the team. But I think moving forward, if you're
- 20:25Speaker 5: Barry Trots, if you're going to be involved in any
- 20:27Speaker 5: capacity and looking to you know, make Nashville what they were.
- 20:32Speaker 5: I don't know over seven years ago when when they
- 20:34Speaker 5: were in the finals and they were good, I think
- 20:37Speaker 5: you have to you have to make big deals.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Ottawa Senators JD. They're gonna be on Prime Monday Night hockey.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I'm going to Vancouver. It's Senators Canucks, which so I'm
- 20:46Speaker 1: going to say Outawa has to buy because I have
- 20:48Speaker 1: to just pretend that this game is going to be
- 20:49Speaker 1: meaningful to me, that the Ottaway centers are going to
- 20:51Speaker 1: push towards the playoff spot. Listen, you find me the
- 20:53Speaker 1: playoffs last year after having extended absence who knows how
- 20:56Speaker 1: many more years yet Brady could chuck. I know they
- 20:58Speaker 1: have this all this drama with the goal to the etc.
- 21:01Speaker 1: You're not that far out of the Eastern Conference.
- 21:03Speaker 7: Sends by let's go, But what other than buying a defenseman,
- 21:08Speaker 7: which you know justin Fox comes up again. The big
- 21:13Speaker 7: problem there is goaltending. But how do you move linus
- 21:15Speaker 7: Ole Mark?
- 21:15Speaker 1: Well, that's the problem.
- 21:18Speaker 2: They got subpar goaltending.
- 21:20Speaker 7: They would be like first in the league just the
- 21:22Speaker 7: way they've played defensively and how they've scored.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Like if you look at the numbers, thirty first percentage,
- 21:26Speaker 1: I'm not mistanding.
- 21:27Speaker 7: Yeah, Like it's you can't win with that. So it's
- 21:29Speaker 7: and you know, as Brian Boyle who was sitting with him,
- 21:32Speaker 7: and as you know, he's so bluntly put it, He's like,
- 21:35Speaker 7: you get good goaltending, you make the playoffs. You don't
- 21:37Speaker 7: get good goaltending, probably gonna miss so and it's like
- 21:40Speaker 7: they just haven't got it. So I'm like, what do
- 21:41Speaker 7: you what do you bring in and what are you buying?
- 21:44Speaker 7: Like you know, so it's like you're you have to
- 21:46Speaker 7: bring in a goalie, but who's going to improve on
- 21:49Speaker 7: you try to bring a Bob or you try to
- 21:51Speaker 7: move all Mark for Bob, or you move all Mark
- 21:53Speaker 7: for Biddington and hope it works out maybe, but like
- 21:57Speaker 7: it's it's a tough one for them.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Man.
- 21:59Speaker 7: I just think I feel bad for him with all
- 22:01Speaker 7: that shit that came out on the news and Mark
- 22:04Speaker 7: leave of app since they have. I mean, if I'm them,
- 22:07Speaker 7: I'm going to get a secondary third goalie, like maybe
- 22:10Speaker 7: looking at a Montreal of selling off a piece to
- 22:13Speaker 7: get something back to help out Olmark because after all
- 22:16Speaker 7: Mark Marilin, yeah, Levi no, no thank you. I don't
- 22:21Speaker 7: wear Levi jeans, No thank you?
- 22:24Speaker 1: They what do you think Ottawa buy sell whole by,
- 22:26Speaker 1: Let's go Nation's Capital.
- 22:27Speaker 4: I'm with you I think they have to buy too.
- 22:29Speaker 5: I mean, I just look at their goal differential, and
- 22:31Speaker 5: I look at a team that could get in.
- 22:34Speaker 4: Even on the outside looking in, I see Ottawa and.
- 22:37Speaker 5: And you guys are right. The goaltending is not is
- 22:39Speaker 5: definitely the issue there. And and I agree with with JD.
- 22:43Speaker 5: I think they're going to have to if they get
- 22:44Speaker 5: over if they want to get over the top, they're
- 22:46Speaker 5: going to have to make a deal like that in goldting.
- 22:47Speaker 5: But I mean, I think you could add some depth
- 22:50Speaker 5: in D and forward position like most teams do. But
- 22:54Speaker 5: I just think the Outawa they have to. They got
- 22:56Speaker 5: to find a way to get in. They have to.
- 22:58Speaker 5: I just think with what they did last season, there's
- 23:01Speaker 5: a little bit of a you know, they had some
- 23:03Speaker 5: distractions this year obviously, like you said, with what with
- 23:06Speaker 5: with one on with their team, So buyers, I think
- 23:09Speaker 5: they got to buy, have to all right, last.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Team and then we'll get in some other topics. I'll
- 23:13Speaker 1: give it to you, Nate. When it comes to Florida Panthers,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I know JD is saying, sell, sell, sell, You had
- 23:17Speaker 1: your run the windows over it for a year. You
- 23:19Speaker 1: can get back and get ten next year. Just go
- 23:22Speaker 1: ahead and give up some assets. What do you think
- 23:23Speaker 1: Panthers buy, sell.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Hold, sell. I think they have to sell. They have
- 23:27Speaker 5: to sell. I mean, obviously you're going to keep your
- 23:29Speaker 5: core nucleus of guys. They're not going anywhere. But you
- 23:32Speaker 5: got guys like you know, Petrie and Evan Rodriguez is
- 23:37Speaker 5: an intriguing one. I mean, you can get a lot
- 23:39Speaker 5: back for a guy like him because you know, a
- 23:40Speaker 5: lot of teams are gonna be calling about him, and
- 23:42Speaker 5: a guy that we probably should mention more as a
- 23:44Speaker 5: center or wing that could help a lot of teams.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Get over the hump.
- 23:48Speaker 5: You know, got a team like Colorado too. If you
- 23:49Speaker 5: can add him, There's so many teams that could add him.
- 23:52Speaker 5: So if I'm Florida, I'm selling. And you look at
- 23:55Speaker 5: this season as an anomaly and reset, pick up your
- 23:59Speaker 5: assets and move on to the next season.
- 24:03Speaker 7: Get the tank is underway to give yourself a top
- 24:07Speaker 7: ten pick.
- 24:07Speaker 2: There you go, be right back in the hunt.
- 24:10Speaker 7: We're gonna do Columbus, Columbus Blue Jackets by La.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Just buy some whole. Just give me one word, La
- 24:18Speaker 1: cell mistakes So we're not gonna beat the Oilers again. Philly, Philly, Bye, hold.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Lee, what are they gonna do if they make it
- 24:28Speaker 2: losing four exactly?
- 24:29Speaker 1: But you can end well, you can end a five
- 24:31Speaker 1: year playoff drought.
- 24:32Speaker 2: That's it.
- 24:33Speaker 1: And we'll see what happens again with these movies as
- 24:35Speaker 1: they come down. Maybe will do like an emergency NHL
- 24:37Speaker 1: unscript if there's a major move made before Friday. I
- 24:39Speaker 1: want to get into Sydney. Crosby, though so Long said
- 24:42Speaker 1: out a minimum of four weeks after sustaining a lower
- 24:44Speaker 1: body injury the Olympics. She immediately right out Pittsburgh. Here's
- 24:47Speaker 1: a surprise though, Fellas two to one and one is
- 24:49Speaker 1: coming back from the break, five nothings, curb stomp over Vegas,
- 24:54Speaker 1: Malcolm three points first three games back, and there's talk
- 24:56Speaker 1: that I and Pittsburgh discussing a contract extension. Sid first
- 25:00Speaker 1: j D. This this is the remarkable aspect of you
- 25:03Speaker 1: and Nate, all these NHL players. It goes from like,
- 25:05Speaker 1: well he might be able to play in the Gold
- 25:07Speaker 1: Bell Gape to then gone for four weeks. So this
- 25:09Speaker 1: was not a minor injury. It was just like, all right,
- 25:11Speaker 1: I know this is not a torn growing, but like
- 25:15Speaker 1: something significant. But I'm like, if we can someone shoot
- 25:17Speaker 1: me up. I'll get through it. That's the dedication this
- 25:19Speaker 1: guy has. Or maybe it was all just smoking mirrors,
- 25:21Speaker 1: like oh Sid could be available, who knows, and they're like,
- 25:23Speaker 1: there's no way this guy can play, regardless the fact
- 25:25Speaker 1: that Krasu is potentially gonna play. Now gone four weeks,
- 25:28Speaker 1: Peng's still winning. How do you solve this?
- 25:31Speaker 7: I mean, I think this is going to be a
- 25:33Speaker 7: dangerous team come playoff time. I think the East is
- 25:35Speaker 7: more open than people think now that the big bad
- 25:38Speaker 7: Panthers are out, maple leafs are going to be gone.
- 25:41Speaker 7: You know, you're there's gonna be an opportunity there. I
- 25:43Speaker 7: think we might be very surprised.
- 25:46Speaker 8: You know.
- 25:46Speaker 7: There's the one option is Tampa is going to run
- 25:48Speaker 7: rough shot over everybody. But if Tampa ends up getting upset,
- 25:52Speaker 7: it's kind of open in the East.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I don't know if I like.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Tampa, I like Carolina. After that there's a.
- 25:57Speaker 7: Yeah, But I mean Carolina hasn't really proven much. So
- 26:00Speaker 7: it's like for me and Pitt, Pitt's going to be
- 26:01Speaker 7: a dangerous out I think, depending on and Sid's gonna
- 26:05Speaker 7: come back. So I think they have a lot of
- 26:07Speaker 7: young talent there. I think they need to shore up
- 26:10Speaker 7: the back end, and today's point, maybe bringing a goalie
- 26:12Speaker 7: if if it makes sense. But yeah, Sid was shooting
- 26:15Speaker 7: himself up for sure during that in the Olympics to
- 26:18Speaker 7: try to play like with him practicing and everybody's like, oh,
- 26:21Speaker 7: he looks good. I'm like, he's testing out what a
- 26:23Speaker 7: nice little what a nice little nerve blocker could do
- 26:26Speaker 7: for you and h but it doesn't mean. It means
- 26:30Speaker 7: you're just even more sore the next day. So I
- 26:32Speaker 7: just think he's going to come back though in four weeks.
- 26:35Speaker 7: And listen Whenevgeny is called upon Aviguinea Malkin. I mean,
- 26:40Speaker 7: and he needs to be that guy. He is fully
- 26:42Speaker 7: well capable of being that guy and then some and
- 26:45Speaker 7: and and he's doing it right now for this team.
- 26:47Speaker 7: So but Pittsburgh, I'm rooting for him.
- 26:50Speaker 1: NATO makes me say, Sid, in the twilt of his career,
- 26:53Speaker 1: who even thought they'd be making a playoff push even
- 26:55Speaker 1: if he would a round at this point his career.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I think Sid would be thrilled.
- 26:58Speaker 5: It's interesting you said that JD about a gino And
- 27:00Speaker 5: when I was at NHL Network a week ago, Brandon
- 27:03Speaker 5: brought up a stat and the record without Sid and
- 27:06Speaker 5: you know it's like eighty five and forty five and
- 27:09Speaker 5: eighteen or something like that. I might be I'm generalizing.
- 27:13Speaker 5: I'm pretty close. Noo, He's over a point of game, right,
- 27:17Speaker 5: He's over a pointed game without Sid.
- 27:18Speaker 4: So there's a silver lining to it for Pittsburgh. And
- 27:22Speaker 4: I agree.
- 27:23Speaker 5: I think that once they get Sid back and you
- 27:27Speaker 5: have all of the depth that they have, and that's
- 27:31Speaker 5: it's a dangerous team. And who knows what Kyle Dubis
- 27:33Speaker 5: does with the trade deadline too. I mean he could
- 27:35Speaker 5: add some guys, add some depth, like you said, Justin
- 27:38Speaker 5: Falk would fit well there, and they add some goaltending.
- 27:41Speaker 5: I just think that you said it Jit like this
- 27:44Speaker 5: team is not it's this is an interesting one to me.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Where they could go on a deep run.
- 27:48Speaker 5: I do think that they're capable of that, especially if
- 27:52Speaker 5: Gino and the big boys are going and you add
- 27:55Speaker 5: the guys like Kindle and stuff. I mean, that's an
- 27:59Speaker 5: intriguing one for me. I mean, how about that we
- 28:00Speaker 5: see Pittsburgh Penguins in the Staeley Cup Final this year?
- 28:04Speaker 7: Well, job, I mean, what is it gonna be? It's
- 28:06Speaker 7: gonna be Pittsburgh versus Islanders around there.
- 28:08Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, that's what.
- 28:09Speaker 7: A fucking throwback that is, Eh, the days of Rick
- 28:13Speaker 7: Dy Pietro.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Rick Dy Well, well, it'll be fun to see Schaeffer
- 28:18Speaker 1: certainly doing his thing come playoff times to look like
- 28:20Speaker 1: they're legit.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Uh.
- 28:22Speaker 1: It's interesting. Now what's happened because going into that game
- 28:25Speaker 1: we had on Prime the Flyers are a thirteen percent
- 28:27Speaker 1: chance of making the playoffs, they beat the Rangers on
- 28:30Speaker 1: the road, they beat the Bruins at home. Swimming versus
- 28:32Speaker 1: Ladhar is a great game and the least game. I
- 28:34Speaker 1: was just at Flyers win this game in overtime. Ziegres
- 28:37Speaker 1: unbelievable to shootout sixty two percent the shootout, Like my
- 28:40Speaker 1: guy in the shootout, you're not gonna beat him. Meach
- 28:41Speaker 1: got a fantastic move as well. But the biggest story
- 28:44Speaker 1: is this, Nate, the leaves are cooked. I'm with my
- 28:46Speaker 1: man bis nasty and he's, you know, trotting the blue
- 28:49Speaker 1: and white. And I don't mean to offend you, but
- 28:50Speaker 1: we got get a giant fork out here. This steam's done.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Going into that a one percent chance of making the playoffs,
- 28:55Speaker 1: now I get it. Nine straight years of making the
- 28:57Speaker 1: playoffs is a hell of a run. And we see
- 28:58Speaker 1: this with Florida. Well, they actually won Cups. But you
- 29:01Speaker 1: have a great sustain run, you have.
- 29:02Speaker 2: A step back.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Fine, but the leaves are not anywhere. And here's what
- 29:05Speaker 1: I think is most distressing. They lost their first three
- 29:08Speaker 1: games against division opponents by combined score fourteen to five
- 29:11Speaker 1: before they lost to a Flyers, which is playing the
- 29:13Speaker 1: third game in four nights. They don't have that.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Can we breaking news? Breaking? Can we breaking new, breaking
- 29:20Speaker 2: news animation?
- 29:20Speaker 3: Go ahead?
- 29:21Speaker 7: Jay the Sherwood just signed apparently for Sure, And I'm
- 29:25Speaker 7: a little bit, oh, this is not good. I think
- 29:28Speaker 7: it's apparently by Elliott Friedman, a five year deal just
- 29:31Speaker 7: under six mil.
- 29:33Speaker 2: I swear with say, yeah, that's too much.
- 29:37Speaker 7: Though that's gonna been. That's a great deal for him.
- 29:41Speaker 7: I wonder how they loaded. That's the kind of deal
- 29:43Speaker 7: where the last two years aren't going to matter. They're
- 29:45Speaker 7: paying him for like the first three hopefully four. But
- 29:50Speaker 7: I just got a stat too from somebody, Keith. For
- 29:55Speaker 7: Surewood's first twenty two games played this season twelve goals,
- 29:59Speaker 7: three assists, ninety six hits. Is last twenty seven game
- 30:04Speaker 7: six goals, three assists, one hundred and forty two.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Hits and now is the time to lock him up.
- 30:10Speaker 7: So he's dropped off significantly in terms of goals, but
- 30:14Speaker 7: I watched him last night. They're paying and unfortunately, like
- 30:18Speaker 7: everybody thinks he should be a first line guy, he's
- 30:20Speaker 7: a great third line guy that can chip in, play
- 30:24Speaker 7: second power play, brings energy. He was ship talking everyone
- 30:27Speaker 7: on Montreal. He had them in a tizzy. I think
- 30:31Speaker 7: it's too expensive, but listen, get your paper boo boo.
- 30:37Speaker 1: That's a yeah, go ahead, yeah, no, I I and
- 30:41Speaker 1: there is.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I wish I am still playing.
- 30:43Speaker 5: I know I'm taking that everything for every second talk,
- 30:47Speaker 5: I'm like to change, to change Chack.
- 30:49Speaker 4: Good for him to change. Change.
- 30:51Speaker 5: But I think there's a premium for these guys now.
- 30:54Speaker 5: I think because there's not a lot of these players
- 30:56Speaker 5: left in the league, and you look at guys like
- 30:57Speaker 5: Tom Wilson and you know.
- 30:59Speaker 4: Maybe that's the that's not a comparison, but you know
- 31:02Speaker 4: they're making this.
- 31:03Speaker 5: Going up, the Caps going up, and he's a guy
- 31:06Speaker 5: that you know, there's like I said, there's not many
- 31:09Speaker 5: players like him. You know, he's a guy that in
- 31:11Speaker 5: the playoffs, he's gonna have his hand in a lot
- 31:14Speaker 5: of games because of the way he plays. So I
- 31:16Speaker 5: think if you're San Jose, you're looking at that for
- 31:18Speaker 5: the future. You're looking at you know, adding that truculence
- 31:22Speaker 5: to their team that they need. And I think having
- 31:25Speaker 5: a guy like you for sure who can also put
- 31:26Speaker 5: the buck in the net is a pretty good skill
- 31:29Speaker 5: to have an asset. I know it's but I agree,
- 31:33Speaker 5: I agree to you.
- 31:34Speaker 4: I think it's way too much.
- 31:35Speaker 5: I mean I would I wouldn't paid.
- 31:37Speaker 7: Yeah, they must have been stuck and Gerzy was trying
- 31:42Speaker 7: to flip them and this the return wasn't good enough.
- 31:45Speaker 7: And sure it's like I'm gonna leave, and it's like, well,
- 31:47Speaker 7: I gotta sign him, and he took a risk. I mean,
- 31:50Speaker 7: they just need d They need so many D men
- 31:53Speaker 7: on San Jose. But anyway, you had something you had
- 31:55Speaker 7: a little hit on. Apparently someone's text you about No.
- 31:59Speaker 1: We're gonna go back to Maple Leafs right now. So
- 32:01Speaker 1: to finish the point, and the Leafs don't have their
- 32:03Speaker 1: first round pick top five protected this summer's draft. They
- 32:06Speaker 1: will not have their own first top ten protected in
- 32:08Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven. Again, nine straight years of making the playoffs.
- 32:12Speaker 1: It has sustained regular season success. We know come playoff
- 32:15Speaker 1: time it has been a different story. What do the
- 32:17Speaker 1: Leaves do? Trade Scott Lawton, Maybe trade Oliver Ekman Larson.
- 32:21Speaker 1: What do you doing if you're the Blue and White.
- 32:23Speaker 4: I think you trade anyone that you feel that you
- 32:25Speaker 4: need to get rid of it.
- 32:26Speaker 5: I think every single guy should be available for the
- 32:29Speaker 5: right but.
- 32:30Speaker 1: The exception of Matthews and William Eland.
- 32:32Speaker 4: I don't know. I put them on the list too.
- 32:34Speaker 5: I think if there's a right price, you sell them,
- 32:37Speaker 5: because if it's not like what is working, like what's
- 32:41Speaker 5: been working? You know, you've tried, You've tried new coaches,
- 32:44Speaker 5: you tried new gms, you have you know, different makeup
- 32:47Speaker 5: of your team every year, Okay, And I just don't
- 32:52Speaker 5: know how else you can go about it for the future.
- 32:55Speaker 5: If you're the Toronto Maple Leafs, as you're Brad Tree Living,
- 32:59Speaker 5: you're not trying to win this year, not trying to win,
- 33:01Speaker 5: You're trying to win in the future. And they need
- 33:03Speaker 5: to sell some assets and they need to do it now.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Gendez, trade Slick Willie. Can you get behind this?
- 33:10Speaker 2: Sell it all?
- 33:11Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 33:12Speaker 4: There we go sell in all Matthews.
- 33:18Speaker 7: Again Toned's point, if something came in, I think you're
- 33:21Speaker 7: answering every phone call.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Because this is the problem with.
- 33:26Speaker 7: Toronto, like Toronto needs to finally start thinking of the
- 33:29Speaker 7: next five to ten years as an organization. They have
- 33:32Speaker 7: nothing in the prospect poll. They have no picks the
- 33:35Speaker 7: next two years in the first round. If I'm mistaken,
- 33:38Speaker 7: correct me, but I'm pretty sure they have no first
- 33:40Speaker 7: round picks the next two years. It's they need to
- 33:43Speaker 7: get They need to get young, they need to get fast,
- 33:46Speaker 7: they need to try to lean on their scouting department,
- 33:49Speaker 7: and they need to get a couple guys in free
- 33:51Speaker 7: agency that are looking to come play in Toronto, because
- 33:53Speaker 7: right now it is just not it's not good Eastern Cowen.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Get a good, young, promising player. They're love an Eastern Cowen.
- 34:02Speaker 7: Keep Easton, you keep you, maybe try to get you,
- 34:05Speaker 7: try to see if Nick Robertson can be a top
- 34:09Speaker 7: six player. You play him twenty minutes a night, see
- 34:11Speaker 7: if he's got that talent. You keep Matthew Eyes. I
- 34:14Speaker 7: wouldn't trade Matthew Eyes. Bobby McMahon gone, Yeah, He'scot Lawton gone,
- 34:19Speaker 7: Nick Wa Nick Wah should be a really highly don't yeah,
- 34:24Speaker 7: don't be surprised if Nick Wah goes somewhere at the deadline,
- 34:27Speaker 7: because he is somebody that is a very very good piece.
- 34:31Speaker 7: Uh at the center position. I could see a Montreal
- 34:34Speaker 7: going for him. I can see a Utah going for him,
- 34:38Speaker 7: and I can also see Minnesota going for him if
- 34:40Speaker 7: they don't get tro Check. So he's another one on
- 34:44Speaker 7: the back end. Oliver kmn Larson gone, uh, who else
- 34:49Speaker 7: is there? I don't know what about a goal?
- 34:50Speaker 1: Did you trade Stolar's hill to be wool? He got
- 34:53Speaker 1: three goalies?
- 34:54Speaker 7: What are you gonna get? What are you gonna get
- 34:55Speaker 7: for him? Riley gone, thank you?
- 34:58Speaker 2: Gone? Domi gone on.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Depends on well, we'll see what happens with the curse
- 35:06Speaker 1: and then anyways, the leaves. It's definitely a bad season
- 35:09Speaker 1: for them. We'll come back with Plndy Moore here in
- 35:11Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted again Young Blood, phenomenal new movie Ashton James
- 35:15Speaker 1: the Star, plus Chris Nelson Old Buddy, and Nate Thompson's
- 35:18Speaker 1: consultant stories of Baywatch former player all that more coming
- 35:23Speaker 1: up after this. Two guests this week in NHL Enscripted
- 35:40Speaker 1: won a talented young actor of first cut attention with
- 35:42Speaker 1: his appearance in the twenty twenty four film Box Cutter.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Next be seen as a tele character in Young Blood,
- 35:47Speaker 1: which opens in theaters March sixth, or other guests. The
- 35:50Speaker 1: fifth round pick of the New Jersey Devils ninety six
- 35:53Speaker 1: overall in the nineteen eighty NHL Draft, before winning a
- 35:56Speaker 1: national championship at the University of Wisconsin, went on to
- 35:59Speaker 1: play professionally in ice and roller hockey. For coming to
- 36:02Speaker 1: Hollywood workings the hockey coordinator on such films as Miracle,
- 36:05Speaker 1: Batman and Robin the Love Guru and Young Blood Ashton
- 36:09Speaker 1: James and Chris Nel So welcome town. Script to gentlemen.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Great to see it both.
- 36:13Speaker 8: Thank yeah, yeah, thanks for having us.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Aston will start with the you know, young actor. So,
- 36:17Speaker 1: I'm curious, how familiar were you with the original Young
- 36:19Speaker 1: Blood For those who don't know, a young Rob low
- 36:22Speaker 1: Cano reeves a French game accent. Before you got this role,
- 36:25Speaker 1: had you heard of the movie?
- 36:27Speaker 8: I hadn't. I hadn't know. I remember when I was
- 36:29Speaker 8: doing my callback, our first director, Charles Officer made reference
- 36:33Speaker 8: of like, you know, because it's a remake, and I
- 36:35Speaker 8: was like, wait what and I'm like in the the audition,
- 36:38Speaker 8: and I was like, I had no idea. So after
- 36:41Speaker 8: we got off, I went because we when I got
- 36:44Speaker 8: the script it was named something else, it was I
- 36:46Speaker 8: think it was initially called The Dangle, so I had
- 36:49Speaker 8: no real reference of what was going on. So after
- 36:53Speaker 8: we got off that call, I went and I and I.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Watched it back, and what do you think of the movie?
- 36:58Speaker 8: It's it's a movie of the eighties, you know, it's real,
- 37:01Speaker 8: it's real timely. But I had a great time, and
- 37:04Speaker 8: I thought it was great I had. I had a
- 37:06Speaker 8: fun time watching it.
- 37:07Speaker 1: A little dated but need a fresh update.
- 37:09Speaker 8: Yeah, And then I watched it right before we started
- 37:13Speaker 8: we started filming, just you know, I was like, if
- 37:15Speaker 8: there's anything that naturally comes to pay you know, homage
- 37:19Speaker 8: to to what they did, then you know, it'll just
- 37:21Speaker 8: be in my subconscious instead of like me trying to
- 37:24Speaker 8: like find a moment too, you know.
- 37:28Speaker 5: Yeah, Ashton, you know, I just full disclosure that that
- 37:32Speaker 5: movie I had on VHS tape recorded from my parents
- 37:35Speaker 5: so I could watch it at any moment. So just
- 37:38Speaker 5: to just to reference how how much I love the
- 37:40Speaker 5: original Young Blood. You know, I'm always curious to know
- 37:44Speaker 5: how you know, how how you get into this? I
- 37:47Speaker 5: guess hard hitting question. You know what what first made
- 37:50Speaker 5: you want to become an actor?
- 37:52Speaker 8: M My grandmother is an actor. So I was born
- 37:56Speaker 8: in Saint Lucia in the Caribbean, and my grandmother's like
- 38:00Speaker 8: theater there and she's like kind of a big deal.
- 38:03Speaker 8: So I then when I was like a young kid,
- 38:05Speaker 8: I would I told this story the other day. I
- 38:06Speaker 8: remember her theater group was putting on a play and
- 38:10Speaker 8: I was backstage and I was just like watching, and
- 38:13Speaker 8: I was like wow, and they put my sister and
- 38:15Speaker 8: my cousin in the play and they didn't put me
- 38:17Speaker 8: in the play. And since that day, I've been on
- 38:20Speaker 8: a vengeance tour to you know, make them, make them
- 38:23Speaker 8: feel like they made their own decision of who they
- 38:25Speaker 8: put into play. So you know, I feel like that
- 38:27Speaker 8: was like on this like a subconscious level, you know,
- 38:30Speaker 8: where it started. And you know, as I've gotten older,
- 38:33Speaker 8: trying to like, you know, you know, make my grandmother proud,
- 38:37Speaker 8: but also you know, finding myself and you know, wanting
- 38:39Speaker 8: to tell stories and be a part of things that
- 38:42Speaker 8: that are just cool to do. You know, like I
- 38:44Speaker 8: got to learn how to play hockey for a job,
- 38:46Speaker 8: you know. So, yeah, it was great.
- 38:49Speaker 1: And Chris, you've worked at some of the greatest hockey
- 38:51Speaker 1: scenes in film history. What was it like working with
- 38:54Speaker 1: Ashton and the rest of this cast?
- 38:56Speaker 3: You know, it's a you know I did. I worked
- 38:59Speaker 3: in the original Young Blood, so that's how old I'm
- 39:01Speaker 3: gonna date myself, so, you know, working that with Cad
- 39:04Speaker 3: though Rob Low way back in the day, you know,
- 39:06Speaker 3: when we did a Miracle, you know, we were gifted
- 39:08Speaker 3: the opportunity to actually work with the real hockey players
- 39:12Speaker 3: because most of the movies that have done prior to
- 39:14Speaker 3: you get actors and they try to skate, try to
- 39:16Speaker 3: fake it. And in this day and age, you can't
- 39:18Speaker 3: fake it. So you know, when the producers and Hubert,
- 39:22Speaker 3: who director at the time, uh, you know, pulled me
- 39:24Speaker 3: sound and say, hey, look, let's let's make this real.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Let's make it real hockey players. I was like, yeah,
- 39:28Speaker 3: let's go for it. You know, I had the fortune
- 39:32Speaker 3: of me and Ashton what two years before we started production,
- 39:36Speaker 3: I think, so I spoke with Ashton and said, Ashton,
- 39:38Speaker 3: we're gonna this is gonna be real. He's like, you're
- 39:40Speaker 3: ready to play. He's like, yeah, I don't you're ready
- 39:42Speaker 3: to plays like, yeah, I don't know, are you ready
- 39:43Speaker 3: to play? We're not fake it, but make it happen.
- 39:45Speaker 3: And Ashton he rose to challenge, I mean from you know,
- 39:48Speaker 3: he said, an individual was born in Saint Lucia who
- 39:51Speaker 3: never hadn't been seen the original young Blood, and he's
- 39:54Speaker 3: out there, he's doing his own skating, he's doing his
- 39:56Speaker 3: own moves, doing his own hitstone face offs. Yes, we
- 39:58Speaker 3: have stunt doubles to do these scenes, but Ashton came
- 40:01Speaker 3: to play. He came to make it happen. So it's
- 40:03Speaker 3: very very believable. And you know, I take pride in
- 40:06Speaker 3: making films, making hockey films that the true hockey player
- 40:11Speaker 3: will watch it and not go, oh, that guy can't skate.
- 40:14Speaker 3: They're watching and go The story is great, the action
- 40:16Speaker 3: is great, the goal scorts are realistic. And asking came
- 40:19Speaker 3: to the challenge that these other players we had, they're
- 40:21Speaker 3: all no Ohl guys, major junior guys. These guys go
- 40:25Speaker 3: out play and that they didn't pass my skating test,
- 40:27Speaker 3: they weren't going to make it in the film.
- 40:31Speaker 5: Yeah, Nelly, you know, I guess my My question is,
- 40:34Speaker 5: you know how when you get actors, you know, like Ashton,
- 40:37Speaker 5: that don't have a hockey background, and you know they
- 40:40Speaker 5: come to make a movie like or may make a film.
- 40:43Speaker 5: How how do you teach them in the game of hockey,
- 40:45Speaker 5: and how do you also teach them everything that goes
- 40:48Speaker 5: along with it, you know, with the lingo and the
- 40:50Speaker 5: slang and just being a hockey player.
- 40:53Speaker 3: It's everything that's taping the stick, It's all that stuff.
- 40:56Speaker 3: You know, how you put wax on, how you wear
- 40:58Speaker 3: your gloves, is your mouthpiece in your mouthpiece out? How
- 41:00Speaker 3: you hire five all types stuff. So it's all those
- 41:03Speaker 3: little nuances that you really have to work with. You know, Ashton,
- 41:07Speaker 3: he's in Toronto. I'm in California, So I wouldn't send him,
- 41:10Speaker 3: you know, weekly updates of no me shooting pucks and
- 41:13Speaker 3: Here's what it looks like shoot a puck. Here's what
- 41:14Speaker 3: it looks like to take the snow off your stick.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Here's all these little things. So I always would send
- 41:20Speaker 3: Ashton these little clips that I would create for him.
- 41:23Speaker 3: So I'm down in Toyota, you know, working out of
- 41:25Speaker 3: the rint down there, and I'd get ice time to myself,
- 41:28Speaker 3: I'd get floor time myself and just do all these things.
- 41:31Speaker 3: And Ashton, being the actor that he is, he took
- 41:32Speaker 3: it to heart and he did all those little things.
- 41:35Speaker 3: If there's something I saw on set that didn't really work,
- 41:38Speaker 3: you know, we'd let the take go through. I'd pull
- 41:40Speaker 3: Hubert aside, we have a discussion, and we go and
- 41:42Speaker 3: do it again. But you know, it's you just have
- 41:45Speaker 3: to really know that you're making the film not just
- 41:48Speaker 3: for the audience, but for the true hockey audience. And
- 41:50Speaker 3: if you don't have the hockey audience, you lose, You
- 41:53Speaker 3: lose the film. And this movie is true to For me,
- 41:56Speaker 3: it's it's I mean, outside of the little things like
- 41:59Speaker 3: the ear flaps that we couldn't get around, I mean
- 42:01Speaker 3: the movie it's it's real hockey. It's real, real real stuff,
- 42:04Speaker 3: real hits. I mean we beat some boys up. Didn't
- 42:07Speaker 3: we act on that show?
- 42:08Speaker 8: Oh yeah, I remember Dante had to go to the hospital. Yeah,
- 42:12Speaker 8: questions alert. I felt that, But the hit looked great.
- 42:16Speaker 3: I was. I was asked the task of Okay, no Ashton,
- 42:19Speaker 3: he can skate, but I go, we're not gonna hit Ashton.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Well he takes some bumps, is I go, We're not
- 42:23Speaker 3: gonna hit Ashton? Okay, great, we need to find a
- 42:25Speaker 3: double try finding two five foot eleven, one hundred and
- 42:30Speaker 3: seventy five dark skin left handing hockey players that are
- 42:35Speaker 3: available during the winter to make a film. And it
- 42:38Speaker 3: was like trying to kneel, you know, in a haystack,
- 42:41Speaker 3: and we actually found they were great.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Well, it doesn't like suffering for your art, you know,
- 42:46Speaker 1: actors are willing to do that, Ashton, you got the
- 42:48Speaker 1: bright scenes of the age, just wondering. Blair Underwood, great
- 42:51Speaker 1: job bling your dad and young. But what was it
- 42:53Speaker 1: like going with a really wonderful, established actor like Blair.
- 42:56Speaker 8: It was amazing. I remember like when we first started filming.
- 42:59Speaker 8: Our first week of shooting was a lot of like
- 43:01Speaker 8: fight sequences, so like I'm out there just beating everybody up.
- 43:05Speaker 8: I was like having a time. I'm like walking around
- 43:08Speaker 8: set feeling like the guy and I'm just like my
- 43:10Speaker 8: chest is out. I'm like just feeling so good because
- 43:12Speaker 8: I'm I lost a couple of fights, but for the
- 43:14Speaker 8: most part, I was like just beating everybody up. And
- 43:17Speaker 8: I remember I was talking to her director and I
- 43:18Speaker 8: was like, man, is it gonna work? Because like this
- 43:21Speaker 8: dynamic between Dean and his dad, Like, what's that going
- 43:25Speaker 8: to be like? Because I'm just I'm just winning everything
- 43:28Speaker 8: and I'm like really dominating, So what is he going
- 43:30Speaker 8: to be upset about? And I remember Blair's first day
- 43:33Speaker 8: is a scene where he comes up to Dean and
- 43:35Speaker 8: he's upset with how he handled himself on the ice,
- 43:39Speaker 8: and I'm like whatever. So I come out of the
- 43:42Speaker 8: locker room and Blair walks up to me and he
- 43:45Speaker 8: puts his hand on my shoulder and he like he's
- 43:47Speaker 8: smiling at me at first, and I'm like, Yeah, this
- 43:49Speaker 8: is not gonna work. What's going on? And on a dime,
- 43:52Speaker 8: the smile dropped off his face and he looked me
- 43:55Speaker 8: in my eyes and I got so afraid and I
- 43:58Speaker 8: was like, oh, okay, yeah, Daddy's home. You know. He
- 44:01Speaker 8: was like he's a force. He's like such a force.
- 44:05Speaker 8: And it made me realize how good actors are, you know,
- 44:10Speaker 8: Like I'd always hear actors talk about another actor making
- 44:12Speaker 8: them better, and I just thought it was just like
- 44:15Speaker 8: lip service, you know, actors just trying to like palk
- 44:18Speaker 8: up their co stars and stuff. And it's not till
- 44:21Speaker 8: you know, I was standing in front of a real
- 44:23Speaker 8: force that I was like, oh wow, this You know,
- 44:27Speaker 8: when someone is so locked in, it just allows you
- 44:29Speaker 8: to to just go deeper because I felt so small
- 44:32Speaker 8: and it's exactly what Dean needed to feel in that moment.
- 44:35Speaker 8: So Blair is he's he's such as such a talent.
- 44:38Speaker 8: I couldn't say a bad thing about him if if
- 44:41Speaker 8: you paid me to, you know, I.
- 44:43Speaker 3: Mean, as I agree with you, because you know, I
- 44:45Speaker 3: did all hockey scenes. We did all the hockey stuff first,
- 44:47Speaker 3: and we're flying high and the hockey looks great. This
- 44:50Speaker 3: is awesome, having so much fun. And then we're in
- 44:52Speaker 3: Hamilton and that's my first note time I was with
- 44:55Speaker 3: Blair and we were all sit there hanging out, have
- 44:58Speaker 3: a good time. Then Blair walks in and we're like, oh,
- 45:00Speaker 3: well this is real. He has a presence of life. Yeah,
- 45:03Speaker 3: as you said at his home man, it's it's it's
- 45:06Speaker 3: it's go time. So I feel he was great, But
- 45:10Speaker 3: it was it was a Dunton experience having Blair on set.
- 45:15Speaker 5: Actually making this film and being learning the game of
- 45:18Speaker 5: hockey and being a hockey player. Was there anything that
- 45:22Speaker 5: you didn't know or that you appreciated more after making
- 45:26Speaker 5: this film? You know, maybe learning from Chris or you know,
- 45:28Speaker 5: things you didn't know about a hockey player that guys
- 45:31Speaker 5: go through day to day, or the mentality. Is there
- 45:34Speaker 5: something you learned or appreciate it After making this film, Dude.
- 45:36Speaker 8: Where do I start? I'm like, you know, it's it
- 45:39Speaker 8: was such a task, Like I remember Chris was talking,
- 45:42Speaker 8: So it was like I was afforded the because a
- 45:45Speaker 8: lot of the times, you know, it would just be
- 45:48Speaker 8: on the actor to figure some of these things out.
- 45:50Speaker 8: But production was really great and that they wanted me
- 45:53Speaker 8: to train. So they sent me to a spot called
- 45:55Speaker 8: Intech High Performance here in Toronto, and I trained with
- 45:59Speaker 8: Darryl Levy, Becky, Tyler, Jordan and Tara. So there's like
- 46:03Speaker 8: a lot of people who were taking care of me
- 46:06Speaker 8: to help me figure this out. And I remember the
- 46:09Speaker 8: first day I went there to train, I was doing
- 46:11Speaker 8: an assessment to see where I was at, to see,
- 46:14Speaker 8: you know, how we build a programming where to start.
- 46:16Speaker 8: I get on the ice with Daryl and he's like, okay,
- 46:18Speaker 8: so I just want you to skate and like do
- 46:21Speaker 8: a hockey stop right here. And I was like okay, okay,
- 46:23Speaker 8: but like how and He's like, just just do it.
- 46:28Speaker 8: I was like, dude, what do you mean just doing
- 46:29Speaker 8: He's showing me and he's doing it like so effortlessly,
- 46:33Speaker 8: and I'm like, all right, I guess I'm gonna do this.
- 46:35Speaker 8: And I like felt like eighteen times in a row.
- 46:37Speaker 8: It was like and mind you, when I started training,
- 46:39Speaker 8: I had no equipment, so I was out there in
- 46:41Speaker 8: like sweatpants and the sweater, which I was like, who
- 46:43Speaker 8: who approved this? What are you doing? So you know,
- 46:47Speaker 8: it was but like to answer directly. When I at
- 46:50Speaker 8: that gym, there was like a lot of pro players
- 46:52Speaker 8: and people who were pursuing their dreams of you know,
- 46:54Speaker 8: making it, and people who had made it. And I
- 46:57Speaker 8: remember I never forget one of the first days I
- 46:59Speaker 8: went there because of the assessment and the skating and
- 47:02Speaker 8: because I would skate and I would work out and
- 47:04Speaker 8: then I'll do recovery. So I was like there for
- 47:07Speaker 8: like six hours, you know, I was like I shouldn't
- 47:09Speaker 8: be clocking in. But one I met a guy who
- 47:12Speaker 8: was there training and I had just finished like my recovery.
- 47:16Speaker 8: So I was there for like four or five hours
- 47:18Speaker 8: and he was recovering and I'm like, oh, are you
- 47:19Speaker 8: about to head out? He's like, no, I got another
- 47:21Speaker 8: skate and I was like, what do you mean you
- 47:23Speaker 8: have another skate and he's like, dude, like we're trying
- 47:25Speaker 8: to make it the pros. I got another skate and
- 47:27Speaker 8: then I'm going to lift again, and I was like,
- 47:28Speaker 8: what the hell? And it clocked for me to go like,
- 47:32Speaker 8: he's here putting in all this work and he still
- 47:34Speaker 8: might not make it, you know, like just the competition
- 47:38Speaker 8: and the level it takes to be a professional athlete,
- 47:41Speaker 8: you know. So I really realized the level that, you know,
- 47:46Speaker 8: it takes to make it to the pros and then
- 47:48Speaker 8: also like really building such a respect for the sport.
- 47:52Speaker 8: You know, it's I, in my opinion, think it's one
- 47:56Speaker 8: of the hardest sports to play, if not the hardest,
- 47:59Speaker 8: you know. Like my friends and I we could be like, yo,
- 48:02Speaker 8: let's go play basketball and we can go do We
- 48:04Speaker 8: might suck, but we could still have fun doing it.
- 48:07Speaker 8: The same for football, the same for soccer. If we're like,
- 48:10Speaker 8: let's go play hockey, like we we can't. If let's
- 48:14Speaker 8: say we know how to scape, which is like one
- 48:15Speaker 8: thing in itself, you put a stick in a puck
- 48:17Speaker 8: in our hands and it becomes such a different thing.
- 48:20Speaker 8: So it's like not even something we can just go
- 48:22Speaker 8: do for like we go play like street hockey or something,
- 48:25Speaker 8: but like I just I recognize the ability it takes
- 48:29Speaker 8: and like how much of a skill and how how
- 48:33Speaker 8: much respect and how difficult it is, you know. So
- 48:36Speaker 8: that was like one thing I really like built today
- 48:41Speaker 8: this like deep admiration for you know what it is
- 48:44Speaker 8: that that these pros do, and and like all the
- 48:46Speaker 8: knits and like bits in between there, like you know,
- 48:50Speaker 8: the chirps, you know, like I'd be in the gym
- 48:52Speaker 8: and I hear guys talking, I'm like, are the speaking English?
- 48:55Speaker 8: That's going on?
- 48:56Speaker 4: You know?
- 48:56Speaker 8: So it was it was a lot. Man, it was
- 48:58Speaker 8: a real like shift in like culture, but it was
- 49:01Speaker 8: it was good to just like immerse myself in that
- 49:04Speaker 8: world then, you know, like get into the space. Daryl
- 49:06Speaker 8: at the time was coaching a team and I think
- 49:08Speaker 8: they were like I think they were like fourteens in
- 49:11Speaker 8: the gt h O And just like I would like
- 49:13Speaker 8: go to their practices and like be in the locker
- 49:15Speaker 8: room with them and like just see all these like
- 49:17Speaker 8: boys and some of them were Russians so they didn't
- 49:19Speaker 8: even know English, but like they all had this like
- 49:22Speaker 8: connectivity within the culture, you know, So it was it
- 49:25Speaker 8: was it was a big learning curve, but it was
- 49:27Speaker 8: a lot to like take in and add like again
- 49:30Speaker 8: as an actor, to be able to like just to
- 49:32Speaker 8: get to experience that and learn that was like massive,
- 49:35Speaker 8: and it was. It was a great time. So I
- 49:38Speaker 8: don't know if that directly answers, but it was. It
- 49:40Speaker 8: was so much.
- 49:41Speaker 3: It was so much.
- 49:42Speaker 1: You're right, street hockey is great. I love floor hockey.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Anything on ice now it's a different maount when you
- 49:46Speaker 1: put the skates on. Chris, you worked with Schwarzenegger on
- 49:48Speaker 1: Batman and Robin. You worked with an elephant in The
- 49:51Speaker 1: Love Guru, the Mike Myers Jessica Alba film and Kurt
- 49:54Speaker 1: Russell and one of the greatest hockey films of all time.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Earlier we mentioned Miracle. What are some stories from working
- 49:58Speaker 1: on those movies.
- 49:59Speaker 3: I mean when Mike Myers, you know, I'm designing these
- 50:03Speaker 3: plays or everything Mars post Me SIDS is a Chris,
- 50:05Speaker 3: I want you to design a sequence where we have
- 50:08Speaker 3: the guys are out there playing the ice, but then
- 50:10Speaker 3: the doors open up and we have an elephant come
- 50:12Speaker 3: on the ice and start having sex. I just finished
- 50:16Speaker 3: a miracle. I went from like, you know, are We
- 50:19Speaker 3: one of the best hockey movies ever? And now I'm
- 50:21Speaker 3: stripping out plays to have elephants have sets on the
- 50:24Speaker 3: ice where so it was it was a wild ride.
- 50:28Speaker 3: I mean Kurt was great. I mean Kurt was great.
- 50:31Speaker 3: You know, miracle. You know, Gavin O'Connor directed that. When
- 50:34Speaker 3: I learned so much about how to make a film,
- 50:37Speaker 3: and Gavin he gave me the reins. He's like, look,
- 50:40Speaker 3: go find these guys. And we were in California, Vancouver, Toronto,
- 50:46Speaker 3: New York, Boston to hand pick all these guys. And
- 50:50Speaker 3: I actually had meetings with all the all the players,
- 50:53Speaker 3: all the original players, so Callahan, you know, Jimmy Craig,
- 50:57Speaker 3: all those guys, and met with all those guys and
- 50:59Speaker 3: try to find likenesses of like a guy that looks
- 51:01Speaker 3: that way, that talks that way with that accent. So
- 51:04Speaker 3: the guys you picked from, you know, from Minnesota, were
- 51:07Speaker 3: from Minnesota. The guys who pick from Boston from Boston.
- 51:09Speaker 3: So make it a real authentic no love Garul. You know,
- 51:14Speaker 3: I had to kinda just pull all the professionalism out
- 51:17Speaker 3: of my mindset and go, this is a comedy and
- 51:20Speaker 3: When I talked to Mike about this, It's like, this
- 51:23Speaker 3: doesn't really make sense to me. He was like, I
- 51:25Speaker 3: had Austin Powers.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Everybody doubted to me this could be the same thing.
- 51:29Speaker 3: I'm like, all right, well, you know, Austin Powers is great,
- 51:31Speaker 3: so I'll roll with it. Sometimes it turns out sometimes
- 51:34Speaker 3: it doesn't. Batman and Robin was Schwartzenegger and Cloony and o'donald.
- 51:38Speaker 3: That was just the you know, three Months of Heaven.
- 51:42Speaker 3: It's like on you know, Warner Brothers said, you know,
- 51:44Speaker 3: the movies cost probably one hundred hundred and fifty million
- 51:47Speaker 3: dollars to make, you know, jo Josh Marker was directing it.
- 51:51Speaker 3: I was like, this is this is filmmaking. I mean,
- 51:53Speaker 3: we were eating steak and lobster on Friday, We're visiting
- 51:56Speaker 3: the Friends set, and we had to run of the town.
- 51:59Speaker 3: That was if Hollywood was like that every single day,
- 52:03Speaker 3: I'd say every Biden needs to be in Hollywood. But
- 52:06Speaker 3: that a whole different level of filmmaking we have. We
- 52:09Speaker 3: don't have a budget you're tied to. I mean one hundred,
- 52:12Speaker 3: one hundred and fifty million dollars for Batman and Robin.
- 52:14Speaker 3: I think miracle or budget like twenty five million. You
- 52:16Speaker 3: know for Young Blood, what is there ten twelve millions
- 52:19Speaker 3: something around there if you do the conversions. But no,
- 52:22Speaker 3: the all the movies have been different, but they've been
- 52:23Speaker 3: great experiences.
- 52:25Speaker 2: Awesome, Chris.
- 52:27Speaker 5: You know you've been you know, you played at Universe
- 52:29Speaker 5: Wisconsin Legendary, You've been drafted, you rode buses in the
- 52:32Speaker 5: American League.
- 52:33Speaker 4: Eh all this?
- 52:34Speaker 5: How how did you get into the film business? How
- 52:37Speaker 5: did that treats over? I know you played pro beach
- 52:39Speaker 5: hockey too, Like, how did this? How did this opportunity come?
- 52:43Speaker 3: I mean I dabbled in the business a little bit,
- 52:45Speaker 3: you know, As I said, I did know the original
- 52:46Speaker 3: Young Bud way back in the day, and I didn't
- 52:49Speaker 3: work the Mony Ducks films. When I graduated college, I
- 52:53Speaker 3: was kind of like, where do I go? What am
- 52:54Speaker 3: I going to do here? I need a summer job.
- 52:56Speaker 3: What's happening exactly? And a friend of mine said, Hey,
- 52:59Speaker 3: you know we're shooting a TV show you want to
- 53:01Speaker 3: be in? And I was like, yeah, what am I
- 53:03Speaker 3: gonna do? Well, come up Santa Monica and you know
- 53:05Speaker 3: you'll check it with somebody that gets you taken care
- 53:07Speaker 3: of it's like, all right, well do we gotta be there?
- 53:09Speaker 3: I go six am and six am at the beach,
- 53:12Speaker 3: like just just come all right, great, get in my car,
- 53:14Speaker 3: drive down there, six dam to go, mister Knows, and
- 53:17Speaker 3: we're gonna all set for you. Okay, great, here's a trailer.
- 53:20Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, I get my trailer and they had
- 53:23Speaker 3: me a script to go here to sides and go sides. Yeah,
- 53:26Speaker 3: just do you understand? What the what the what's going on?
- 53:28Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, So seven o'clock, I knock on my door.
- 53:32Speaker 3: I go, mister knows, when you on set? And I go,
- 53:33Speaker 3: I'm going on set. Yeah, you have a wardrob bottom
- 53:35Speaker 3: like yeah, they gave me no T shirts and shorts.
- 53:37Speaker 3: I'm like, all right, let's go walk out seventy of
- 53:41Speaker 3: the most beautiful women I've ever seen in my life.
- 53:44Speaker 3: And it was a show called Baywatch. I go, this
- 53:46Speaker 3: is for me. This is what I'm gonna do. So
- 53:49Speaker 3: I was like bad boy number two in a Baywatch
- 53:51Speaker 3: episode and I was locked in. I'm I'm sitting there
- 53:54Speaker 3: and talking to David Chokichi and Alexandra Paul and you
- 53:58Speaker 3: asked me in booth. I'm like Okay, how do you
- 53:59Speaker 3: do this? What are you gonna do? How do you
- 54:01Speaker 3: get involved in this? To go? You gotta find an agent. Okay.
- 54:04Speaker 3: They completely blew me off. I go in Yellow Pages,
- 54:06Speaker 3: I find an agent. I called them up. I go, hey,
- 54:09Speaker 3: I want to be represented. They go, have you ever
- 54:12Speaker 3: done before? Like, no, said, come on down, Like all right.
- 54:14Speaker 3: I came down. The guy came out. I was like,
- 54:16Speaker 3: are you Chris. I'm like yeah, I goes, do you
- 54:18Speaker 3: play hockey? I'm like yeah. Because I was black, they
- 54:21Speaker 3: didn't know, like, well, here's an audition. Sent me an audition.
- 54:24Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, went an audition, make a long story short,
- 54:28Speaker 3: did the audition. Didn't know what I was doing? Call back?
- 54:31Speaker 3: Did know what was doing? Book the National commercial.
- 54:34Speaker 1: This is great.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Okay. Two weeks later, same thing, audition callback book National commercial,
- 54:40Speaker 3: This is great. I go, this is so easy. Anybody
- 54:43Speaker 3: can do this. Then I had that feder Off commercial,
- 54:47Speaker 3: you know when it was feder Office skating through Brian
- 54:49Speaker 3: Leach from My Body. Was this commercial where they're like
- 54:53Speaker 3: all NHL hockey players. I'm like, I'm dial the great.
- 54:57Speaker 3: I'm locked and I can get this one. No problem
- 54:58Speaker 3: at all. Audition Okay, great, call my agent. When didn't
- 55:02Speaker 3: they shoot this thing? Oh they haven't done yet. Great.
- 55:04Speaker 3: Three days later, what do they shoot this thing? Oh
- 55:06Speaker 3: they haven't done yet. A week later? What am I
- 55:09Speaker 3: gonna do? Is commercial?
- 55:10Speaker 4: Think?
- 55:10Speaker 3: Oh, they already shot it go? What do you mean
- 55:11Speaker 3: they already shot it through? Yeah, you didn't get it? Go?
- 55:13Speaker 3: What do you mean they didn't get it? It's a
- 55:15Speaker 3: fifth round draft? But how do I not get this
- 55:16Speaker 3: to go? Well, they're looking for authentic looking NHL players
- 55:20Speaker 3: and at that point in time, being black, I didn't
- 55:22Speaker 3: look like an NHL player, And I go, oh, now
- 55:26Speaker 3: I see how this works. So, I mean I went
- 55:29Speaker 3: into Baywatch and I booked all these things and I
- 55:31Speaker 3: thought it was great. Had my first like letdown. I'm like, oh, okay,
- 55:34Speaker 3: it's not that easy. But no, that's that's the short
- 55:37Speaker 3: story of how I got involved in this industry.
- 55:39Speaker 1: Well, that's great to be able to persevere and obviously
- 55:42Speaker 1: made a great career for yourself. Ashton, you're doing the
- 55:44Speaker 1: rounds is a star of a reboot of a classic
- 55:46Speaker 1: sports film. How you enjoyed doing the media tour?
- 55:49Speaker 2: The press?
- 55:49Speaker 1: How much of a whirl when the last few weeks been.
- 55:52Speaker 8: Oh, we're just getting started. The years are our first stop.
- 55:54Speaker 8: So this is this has been great. You know, I'm like,
- 55:57Speaker 8: I got go to La and I think two weeks
- 55:59Speaker 8: or something and me Blair Chrissy. I guess Chris has
- 56:03Speaker 8: to come because if he's telling stories like that, we
- 56:06Speaker 8: need him, so, you know, and I think it'll be
- 56:09Speaker 8: great and it'll just be fun to share the film
- 56:11Speaker 8: and just like see how people respond to it, See
- 56:14Speaker 8: how people you know, the people who hate it, the
- 56:17Speaker 8: people who like it, the people who who go, you
- 56:20Speaker 8: don't look like Ravlo. It all be fun. I think,
- 56:22Speaker 8: you know, is.
- 56:26Speaker 4: Is the sorry sorry, go ahead, go ahead.
- 56:30Speaker 3: It's a fun ride. I mean it's you know, you
- 56:33Speaker 3: restuff your stuff. And you know people are talking about,
- 56:35Speaker 3: oh it's a diversity film, it's it's a Disney remake. No,
- 56:39Speaker 3: this ain't it. This this movie is real. I mean
- 56:42Speaker 3: Ashton brought it hard. You know, Hubert did a great
- 56:45Speaker 3: job with director, and Blair came strong. And the hockey
- 56:47Speaker 3: is real. I mean we as I said before, we
- 56:49Speaker 3: hit some guys, this wasn't like, oh a mess so bump.
- 56:53Speaker 3: I mean, you know, Hubert said, what kind of play
- 56:57Speaker 3: do you hate to see performed on the ice. I'm like,
- 56:59Speaker 3: this play. He's like, okay, great, we're gonna write that in. Okay, good,
- 57:03Speaker 3: but you asked me what I hate. He goes, well,
- 57:06Speaker 3: I'm gonna write in, but you get to blow the
- 57:08Speaker 3: guy up. I was like, oh, yeah, game on, let's
- 57:10Speaker 3: do this. So we beat some guys up in it.
- 57:13Speaker 3: So it hits are real, the hockey is real. It's
- 57:15Speaker 3: a fun fun it's a fun show.
- 57:18Speaker 5: Is there a Is there an actor or director that
- 57:21Speaker 5: you guys have dreamt to work with that or maybe
- 57:24Speaker 5: you already have Nelly.
- 57:26Speaker 4: Is there an actor that jumps out to you guys
- 57:28Speaker 4: or director?
- 57:29Speaker 3: I mean, I've met them all. I mean I've worked
- 57:33Speaker 3: with a lot of them, working with some of the greats.
- 57:34Speaker 3: I've met, you know, everybody from Bruckheimer to Tom Cruised
- 57:39Speaker 3: Cuba to Keefer to Isaai Mustafa. I've met the mall.
- 57:43Speaker 3: I mean. I got pitched a movie. I don't know
- 57:47Speaker 3: if I can discuss this. I got pitched a movie
- 57:50Speaker 3: and the producer was like, I'll give you his initials.
- 57:55Speaker 3: It's D and W. And they're like, we think he'd
- 58:00Speaker 3: be great for this part. I'm like, really, okay, So
- 58:06Speaker 3: I'm not telling the name. I can't see the movie,
- 58:09Speaker 3: but they pitched me on this actor who's pretty well known.
- 58:13Speaker 3: If this happens, I mean, it's it's it's it's it's
- 58:18Speaker 3: what I've been waiting for my entire life. Young Bloody
- 58:20Speaker 3: was a dream. It was a dream to work. To
- 58:23Speaker 3: do a remake was a readaptation, I guess was incredible.
- 58:27Speaker 3: But you know, you take these things as they come.
- 58:30Speaker 3: If it comes to fruition, it does. Noah's Ashton and
- 58:33Speaker 3: I know we sat around for two years waiting for this,
- 58:35Speaker 3: actually three years for waiting for this to happen when
- 58:37Speaker 3: it was first pitch to us, and you know, with
- 58:39Speaker 3: you know, Charles Officer passing away, we thought the movie
- 58:42Speaker 3: was done. And then Hubert Davis came into the reins
- 58:45Speaker 3: of it and we had a second life at it and.
- 58:48Speaker 8: We we we we.
- 58:49Speaker 3: Came to win. So you know, you hear these things
- 58:52Speaker 3: with these ideas, these possibilities, but when it comes to fruition,
- 58:54Speaker 3: that's when it's real. And that's what that's what this
- 58:56Speaker 3: one is.
- 58:58Speaker 1: We're gonna start fantasy looking at actors the initials d
- 59:01Speaker 1: W for the next few minutes.
- 59:04Speaker 8: I don't I don't think you have to go that
- 59:06Speaker 8: far to figure out out.
- 59:08Speaker 1: Last thing for you, Chris, because our buddy Towel was
- 59:10Speaker 1: so excited about this, the Renegade pro Beach Hockey roller
- 59:13Speaker 1: league in southern California. What stories you have from roller hockey?
- 59:17Speaker 3: I can't talk about that. I mean, I mean, in
- 59:22Speaker 3: this climb to this day and age, I can't talk
- 59:23Speaker 3: about those types of things. You know, you know it
- 59:27Speaker 3: was you know, you know Nate, you've been there. You know,
- 59:30Speaker 3: you have the off season. You're kind of like, what
- 59:32Speaker 3: are you gonna do? What do you do to train?
- 59:34Speaker 3: And they were like, well, we got this note, this
- 59:36Speaker 3: this provaych hockey thing. I'm like, wait a second, PROBA
- 59:39Speaker 3: ch hockey, what's that? We're gonna play outside, you know,
- 59:42Speaker 3: on the beach with ramps and full contact and fights,
- 59:45Speaker 3: and your cheerleaders are the Clippers, you know, no basketball,
- 59:50Speaker 3: Chileader girls and everybody has apartments on the beach and
- 59:53Speaker 3: you have has our own assigned bar and restaurant that
- 59:56Speaker 3: you get food, free food and drinks. That was cool,
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: but then you know they played on esp in too,
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: and he has been too, is trying to fill their
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: time slot. So it played all the time, and it
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: was such a high rated show. And I had all
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: the guys in the NHL. They'd sit, you know, they
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: had TVs in the locker room. They're getting ready to
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: go in for practice. Whatever they're saying, like, they're watching
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: me play pro beach hockey, you know, in their locker room.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: So the NHL guys were loving it. It was an
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: absolute blast. I mean, we're we're working really hard to
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: bring it back. You know. The we talked to Dave
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: McLain and we were trying to get things going where
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: we want to do, like uh, you know, first season
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: would be like Hunting Beach and second season will be
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: a national tour and then go globally kind of what
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: the shorts. He's doing the same, same philosophy, same thought process.
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: So they're working at it. If you can bring it back,
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: I mean, at this point, I'd be you know, redgch Dunlap.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: I'd be the player coach type player. I don't know
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: if I can just play, you know, three games in
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: a day. But if we bring it back, you know,
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: I'm gonna start taking resumes to get the right guys
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: out there. Ashton, We'll make you a coach. You know, Nate,
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: You're on my squad. I mean, I play with you, Nate,
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: like if I need someone out there with the skill set. Nate,
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: you're my number one draft pick. That's gonna be you, for.
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: Sure, number one draft pick. I've never heard that one
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: in my life.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Love the shot Edge dunlove of course Paul Newman's character
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: in Slapshot. Good pull out of Chris all Right, Ashton, James,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Chris Nelison. This was awesome, fellas. Thank you so much
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: for the great stories. Best of luck with Young Blood.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: Everyone go see it at March sixth. I'm sure the
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: film be a huge success. Thanks so much, boys, appreciate
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: you guys.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: This guys, it's great.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Love and Nelly dropping a Yasmin Bleeth reference. Wow, bringing
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: back strong memories there for all those who remember her.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: In the meantime, little son of File and six, you
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: are a week and a half away from the Oscars.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: You know you're a nerd when you watch Oscar shorts
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: as I do. The good news is a lot of
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: them available on YouTube. Thirteen of the fifteen nominated shorts
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: are there, and they're all quick. Hen's their name? Animated
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: shorts Forever Green, the Girl who Cried Pearls, which is
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: one of the weirdest stop motion movies they've seen, as
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: from a pair of Canadian directors. Fifteen minutes go watch
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: on YouTube. And Your Lunch Break Butterflies streaming on YouTube.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Retirement Plan seven minutes about what a man would do
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: once he retires. Dom Haall Gleeson is the voice. Actually
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: liked that one the most of the animated shorts. And
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: you get a live action short which again is just
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: non animated, but again fifteen minutes, go ahead, watch it
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: on YouTube. A friend of Dorothy I thought it was
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: heavily sentimental. The Singers is on Netflix. Twenty minutes. Loved it, fantastic.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Sam Davis is the director. He's actually a cinematographer. It
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: was really funny, humane, well done. Jane Austen's period drama,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: emphasis on period. It was funny, it was gross, and
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: it was definitely original and the best title of going
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: of any short movie. Two people Exchanging Saliva. It's thirty
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: five minutes. It's on YouTube. Yes, it's about a lesbian couple.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: And then documentary shorts in case you feel good about
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: your life, why don't you watch these? Or maybe you
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: feel bad about your life? And you should watch these
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: and realize people have it worse children. No More We
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Are Gone is about the genocide in Gaza. Perfectly Estrangedes
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: is a story about yes, wait for it, donkeys armed
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: with only a camera. Listen of the title The Life
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: and Death of Brent Renault. He was a documentarian. That's
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: an HBO Max. All the Empty Rooms, which is the
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: most depressing documentary you're going to see. What's it about
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: The Likely Winner? By the way, broadcast journalist Steve Hartman,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: who's known for upbeat stories. He evens the scales, He
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: visits the parents of victims of school shootings, and films
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: bedrooms that become memorials and mausoleums. All the Empty Rooms
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: on Netflix. And one more for you, you guys, got me
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: something up beat right now. It's called The Devil is
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Busy HBO Max about the hardp being done an abortion clinic.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Just some powerful film and very short, as I said,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: able to crank those a week and a half for
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: the Oscars. Next week's in a file and sixty. I
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: will do what will win? What should win? By the way,
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: tal did watch the Singers available on Netflix twenty minutes?
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: It was great, right It was great, a lot of
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: fun and it's actually might be the only fun watch
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: of all the films you just mentioned.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: It's a fun one. It's on Netflix.
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: It takes place in a bar like It's a nice, simple,
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: easy watch and a fun one to watch. And I
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: will say I just wanted to add I don't know
- 1:04:03Speaker 6: if anyone's seen this new show Neighbors on HBO Max.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: Haven't seen it.
- 1:04:06Speaker 6: It's a like unscripted show about disputes between neighbors. It
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: is got to be one of the craziest things I've
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: ever liked, the craziest cast of may names you've ever
- 1:04:17Speaker 6: seen on a TV shows, unscripted series.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Unscripted Neighbors HBO Max. All right, did you uh?
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: I got into Jill dragged me into Traders and I
- 1:04:29Speaker 7: watched that Traders reality show.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: It's a game. Wow. Yes, I ruined this whole centophile
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: and sixty.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: That's okay, we'll check you out, Traders, Neighbors, whatever you got,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: I can tell you this Neighbors, Yeah, unreal.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: Hey you can see Traders.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: The Kings have been dethroned already about Kevin Fiala for
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Rest the season forward to make out week to week
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: fans chanting fire Hiler last week during the team's eight
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: to one loss. They come back to two, I think
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: against Calgary, but guess what the fans have spoken. So
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: Jim Hiller was fired and to promote associate coach former
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: Ottaway head coach DJ Smith. The Kings lose the Abs
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: and Smith's debut Monday. This lamp had three players making
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: their NHL debut, Angus Booth with a name alone that
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: sounds like he's out of a Western Kenny Connors and
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Jared Wright. Vice president gentleman jer Kenny Holland hasn't even
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: been on the job of a year. He did get
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: paneren But Nate, I gotta tell you this. Maybe this
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: is a popular take. I know Kenny Holland's Hall of Famer,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: I get it. Salary Cap Eric, Kenny Holland not nearly
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: as good. All right, Red Wings, he was awesome. Go ahead,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: give me some rushes, give me some Europeans. Salary Cap
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Kenny Holland a little tougher. He has to deal with that.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: This King's team is going nowhere. In the past, there
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: was just thrilled they'd make the playoffs and lose the Oilers.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: Now they're not even gonna make the playoffs, what say you?
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: Yeah, this is tough and it's tough to witness here
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: being in California and seeing it. But you know, once
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: they've had these injuries issues all season and then when
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: Kevin Fialler goes down the Olympics, it really takes a hit.
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: And I always kind of predicted. I just thought that,
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: you know, getting pan Aeren is great and he's gonna
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: add offense, and you know, you have it to your extensiony,
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: he's going to be around. But I just don't see
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: it fixing the issues completely, and it hasn't, and they
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: need to. They need to look forward to the future.
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: And my theory too also was Ken Holland right. This
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: is his first year as a general manager with the team.
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: You know, letting it play out maybe was his plan,
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: and he's going to put his hand on the team
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: and the summer after the season's over.
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: You know, I don't know why. And I like Jim.
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: Hiller, I've been around before when I was coaching, really
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: good guy. But I think that I don't understand why
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: you waited till after Olympic break. I said it maybe
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: should have handled it before. I mean, I see why now.
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: But now the Kings are in a position where it's
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: unfortunate because I look at Andre Copeitar this is his
- 1:06:52Speaker 5: last season, and you see that and you just want
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: to want to see him make the playoffs. It it sucks,
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: you know, And I don't know if they would get
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: get out of the first round anyways, Like you said,
- 1:07:01Speaker 5: av But for the Kings moving forward, this is tough
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: because they don't have a lot of picks and prospects
- 1:07:08Speaker 5: down below. You know, they traded Liam green Chee to
- 1:07:11Speaker 5: the Rangers, and and now this is why I think
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: they're gonna have to change the make up the nucleus
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: of this team. If it's me, I'm changing, you know,
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: I'm changing guys that have been around there for a
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: little bit. I mean you look at Dowdy, look at
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: Trevor Moore, you look at Fogel, you look at different
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: guys that are in this core group of nucleus, guys
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: they've won with the last few years. But it's it's
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: got to change now, and especially with Ken Allen there.
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: I got to think after the season's over or whatever happens.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: I know DJ Smith was an interim head coach.
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: But there's gonna be a lot of other head coaches available,
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: and you know Ken Holland's going to put his footprint
- 1:07:45Speaker 5: on the team, I think in the offseason.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: But by Field for Matthews, come on, what package package
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: you're gonna get more than Quinton by Field A couple
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: of I thought.
- 1:07:59Speaker 7: I thought, unfortunately Jim Hiller should have went after last
- 1:08:01Speaker 7: year's playoffs.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: I think they waited too long.
- 1:08:04Speaker 7: I think think that it had already fractured in that
- 1:08:06Speaker 7: dressing room. Uh, and you'd already heard some murmurs about it.
- 1:08:10Speaker 7: I think it they I think you should have got
- 1:08:12Speaker 7: rid of them there. And unfortunately, I don't know if
- 1:08:15Speaker 7: DJ Smith is a great fix. It's another recycleds. Yeah,
- 1:08:22Speaker 7: it happens in hockey and and low hanging fruit. And
- 1:08:25Speaker 7: I just think I don't know where they go from here.
- 1:08:27Speaker 7: I think they're in trouble l A. And it's it
- 1:08:30Speaker 7: sucks because when you're in a market like that, you
- 1:08:31Speaker 7: need to win, and especially when you got the you
- 1:08:35Speaker 7: got the Dodgers down the street, you got the Lakers,
- 1:08:38Speaker 7: get the Clippers.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: You need to win there.
- 1:08:41Speaker 7: You need to be relevant otherwise people will not come
- 1:08:44Speaker 7: and it's going to be it'll be tough. So I
- 1:08:46Speaker 7: think they got he's got to either make a splash
- 1:08:49Speaker 7: now or clear the deck and reset, shuffle them up
- 1:08:55Speaker 7: and fucking deal Kenny.
- 1:08:57Speaker 5: And he's he's got his work cutout for him. You
- 1:08:59Speaker 5: said it because being in LA like they have to win.
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: It's not a build for them. It won't be a
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: rebuild for them, and Kenny is gonna have to get
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: very creative. I think in the off season of what
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: he's gonna have to He's gonna have to do this
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: on the fly for them to be competitive, and that's
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: going to be hard to do. So we'll see.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: Rob Blake just exited stage.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: Like Rob Blake knew what was happening. He's like, this
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: can't be fixed on this.
- 1:09:24Speaker 7: They don't call Robbie Blake the Godfather for nothing. Favorite,
- 1:09:29Speaker 7: that's my favorite.
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: He just went.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: They said he fell in a short. I know he didn't.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: It was an escape plan. He knew it wasn't gonna
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: get any.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Better than He's a smart man.
- 1:09:37Speaker 7: That's why he owns a double lot in Manhattan Beach
- 1:09:39Speaker 7: because he's a smart man.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: A couple more topics and we'll call it to day JD.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: How about your Ducks head coach Joel Quimble one thousandth
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: NHL win, second coach to do so after Scotti Bowman.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: They went three straight after the Olympic rate, including five
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: four O two and Friday against Winnipeg, league leading ninth
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: multi goal comeback. Think about that. The last team to
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: get that money multi goal comeback wins for fifty eight games.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: The five six Carolina Hurricanes beca Seneca five points is
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: first four games. This kid's unbelievable. How about your Ducks?
- 1:10:08Speaker 7: Beckets Seneca dark horse for the Calder. I mean, if
- 1:10:11Speaker 7: he was in a different market, he is so fun
- 1:10:14Speaker 7: to watch, so good.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I I they're.
- 1:10:17Speaker 7: Gonna be an interesting one at the deadline and they're
- 1:10:19Speaker 7: going to be a dangerous outcome playoff time because they
- 1:10:21Speaker 7: are they. I mean they throw the kitchen sink at you.
- 1:10:24Speaker 7: They don't care what they give up. They rely on
- 1:10:26Speaker 7: do Staal, who's been I mean not enough love Goes
- 1:10:29Speaker 7: has gone to Dostall this season. I mean hasn't he
- 1:10:32Speaker 7: won like eight of his last ten? Like just incredible run.
- 1:10:35Speaker 7: I think for him and cos Pobins for Canada, they
- 1:10:38Speaker 7: were check.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: You, Lucas.
- 1:10:39Speaker 7: He's good. He's a sick, sick goalie. I love him
- 1:10:42Speaker 7: and I've liked him for a while. Uh yeah, I
- 1:10:45Speaker 7: just you know, Ryan Strom's there, he's not playing. He's
- 1:10:48Speaker 7: an optional piece that can maybe they'll probably retain on him.
- 1:10:51Speaker 7: They could get something. Minchikov kind of expressed that he
- 1:10:55Speaker 7: wants to move on. Can maybe get something for him. Yeah,
- 1:10:58Speaker 7: I listen. I think this team is so exciting. Cubes
- 1:11:01Speaker 7: got them relaxed, playing the right way. They're streaky, but
- 1:11:04Speaker 7: I think if they can figure out their defensive game
- 1:11:06Speaker 7: a little bit, And that's why they got Jay Woodcroft
- 1:11:08Speaker 7: and a couple of the other assistant coaches. Because Q's
- 1:11:10Speaker 7: not the biggest sexit as an o's guy ever. He's
- 1:11:13Speaker 7: just more of a vibes guy. But he's got him
- 1:11:16Speaker 7: vibing right now, Nate big time.
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: Yeah to your point about that.
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: As a little story, a friend of mine went to
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: a they have an event the Ducks do called Ducks
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: and Ducks, and.
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: You know, a lot of all the players are there, and.
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: One of the guys was there, and this is when
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: the Ducks were reeling. They were they were losing a
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: bunch of games in a row, and my buddy went
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: up to Joel Quinnville, and he was like everyone was worried.
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: About the ducks there act you know, they're gonna fall
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: off the rails.
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: And to your point, JD about Quinnville, and I think
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: how his team has kind of taken his his demeanor is.
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: He just said to him, he's like, yeah, we're on
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: a losing streak. We're gonna be fine. We're gonna get
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: out of it, no big deal. And they just moved
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: on to the next and they just had a good time.
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: And he was like, what, like, you're not worried about
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: and he's like, no, no, we're good.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: We'll figure it out.
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: And that's kind of Joel Quinnville in a nutshell and
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: how this team is like chugged along this season. And
- 1:12:12Speaker 5: I think it correlates to, you know, them being behind
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: in goal, but being behind games, like when they're down
- 1:12:18Speaker 5: a couple of goals, it's like, nah, all right, well,
- 1:12:20Speaker 5: you know we'll come back in the end. And I
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: think a lot of it has to do with Quinnville. Yeah,
- 1:12:24Speaker 5: and this team I agree with with j D. I'm
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: you know, calling a game against them with Montreal on
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: Friday and nice, it's just going to be fun.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: To see.
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: I mean, they're a fun team to watch and they're
- 1:12:36Speaker 5: always in it. So there's another one in the trade deadline.
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: I'm super super intrigued by.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: And last thought Live from New York, It's Saturday Night
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Hated Wivalry start Connor's story hosting Saturday Night Live and
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: is opening molog joined by Quinn and Jack Hughes, as
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: well as US Women's Olympic stars Hillary Knight and Megan Keller.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: It was actually Night's second appearance in SNL. She prev
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: with Leslie Jones. That was on Weekend Up after they
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: won Golden twenty eighteen and Jack Hughes may have stolen
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: the show and he said I got my teeth knocked
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: out the finals. Does that happen in your show? To
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: which they Hated Rivalry Star replied metaphorically, a fun night
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: for USA hockey. Which hockey player would you like to
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: see potentially host SNL?
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: Nate?
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: For me, I'd like to go with the legends. I mean,
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Krossman'd love to see. I'd love to see Ovechkin. I
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: think he'd be funny, but to me, it's pretty obvious
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: with Brady Kudchuck, he's got personality. I could see him,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: you know, dressing up and dragged doing some silly stupid
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: I think Brady k Chuck's a home run.
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: You Yeah, I think you gotta go.
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: Brady and Matthew could Chuck bring him bold and just
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: do a skit with him both.
- 1:13:33Speaker 4: I'm sure it'd be pretty good.
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: Those those are the first two that come to mind.
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: Uh jd ynl Yeah, who HOSTNL right now?
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: Listen? I I the k Chucks?
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: Yeah, Brad mar Shawn, I'm all right?
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: Like what they like? A player in the NHL the host.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: Current now player? Who would you like to host?
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: Us?
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: Now?
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: Seth's only NHL player to host? Seth Jarvis, friend of
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: the podcast.
- 1:13:59Speaker 7: Sarry Jarvis is a great personality. Also trying to think
- 1:14:04Speaker 7: there's a who's the I mean Alex Ovechkin would be funny.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: That's what I said.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: We don't fucking sucks.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: I swear God, we know I swear God.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I love ov.
- 1:14:20Speaker 7: I mean Will Smith and Macklin Celbrini be funny little duo.
- 1:14:25Speaker 7: Oh no, you know who i'd actually a little chart?
- 1:14:28Speaker 7: Do you know who I loved host? Is that that Gribank?
- 1:14:31Speaker 7: That gribankin from Philly? Have you heard that guys in.
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: Great.
- 1:14:38Speaker 7: He was like, They're like, yeah that when he played Toronto.
- 1:14:41Speaker 7: They were like, did you talk to the guys on
- 1:14:43Speaker 7: the team. He's like, I talk guys on the team.
- 1:14:45Speaker 7: But he goes it's war we killed, I kill now
- 1:14:47Speaker 7: and guy's unbelievable.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: Tell you have a pick current NHL player. Let's see
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: host s n L.
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: You said a lot of the ones I'd like to see.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: I wouldn't mind saying.
- 1:14:59Speaker 6: I like the idea of a foreigner. I think David
- 1:15:01Speaker 6: Pasternak would be a pretty fun one. Yeah, not personality,
- 1:15:05Speaker 6: the doors of the game for just about anything too.
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: I think he's too shy about anything, so he'd be
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: a good one.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: We shall see it. We'll see if the dream is
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: doing deedcome true. Anyways, fun running the three wide here
