- 0:00Speaker 1: M let's welcome USA, but one of the newest Phillies
- 0:10Speaker 1: draft Capter is on with us. You're live from clear
- 0:13Speaker 1: ooters shirts around here.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Have you gotten used to the accent? I haven't.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I mean I was only here for two
- 0:23Speaker 3: weeks before we took off.
- 0:24Speaker 4: But now it's I've got a chance to talk to
- 0:27Speaker 4: a couple of.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Them when I was up in Philly, and it's it's
- 0:30Speaker 3: a it's a funny one.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Yeah, he's not a strong though some of the deep
- 0:37Speaker 1: Philly people.
- 0:39Speaker 5: No, it's not. I mean you have to really like
- 0:42Speaker 5: almost like complain about every word that you're saying if
- 0:45Speaker 5: you're gonna have a good Philly accent and waater and tournament.
- 0:50Speaker 5: So it's really it's not a big deal. It's just
- 0:52Speaker 5: it's just perfect. It's just a perfect way to talk.
- 0:57Speaker 6: That's great, all right, let me let me get all
- 1:00Speaker 6: right degree but okay, yeahs as much as I'm learning
- 1:04Speaker 6: right now, Brad, let's start with the WBC experience. You
- 1:07Speaker 6: just came back. So first off, what's it like to
- 1:11Speaker 6: come back from that? There was so much juice, so
- 1:14Speaker 6: much energy, so much star power. You basically found new
- 1:18Speaker 6: friends for a couple of weeks and now you're here,
- 1:20Speaker 6: so we'll get into the tournament and what it was
- 1:22Speaker 6: like in the last game. But what is it like
- 1:24Speaker 6: for you to now be here? Is it kind of weird?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's just different, right.
- 1:29Speaker 3: You go from such high energy games, you know, every
- 1:32Speaker 3: single day preparing for basically a playoff game, to you know,
- 1:36Speaker 3: get back to the swing of things of spring training.
- 1:38Speaker 3: So it's definitely weird, but excited to be back here
- 1:41Speaker 3: and uh, you know getting ready for the season.
- 1:43Speaker 2: What were the what was the environment you were there?
- 1:47Speaker 2: You were you were in the biggest games so far
- 1:50Speaker 2: this year. What was the environment? What would the atmosphere
- 1:53Speaker 2: like when you took them out.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Of those Yeah, I mean it was, I mean it
- 1:57Speaker 4: was energy filled.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I mean it was loud.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I think, you know, by far the loudest game I've
- 2:02Speaker 3: ever pitched in, even been a part of it, just
- 2:05Speaker 3: like being there for the Dominican Republic game as well,
- 2:07Speaker 3: like just you know, just adrenalinepact, you know, energy filled
- 2:11Speaker 3: from the start, I mean, the build up all day.
- 2:14Speaker 4: I was in the playoffs last year for the first.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Time my career, I kind of felt that I felt
- 2:17Speaker 3: like it was even more so during those games, you
- 2:21Speaker 3: know this year so far, I mean it was it
- 2:23Speaker 3: was awesome. I mean, it's it's hard to describe it
- 2:25Speaker 3: as like one of those been asked a question a
- 2:27Speaker 3: bunch like what was like?
- 2:28Speaker 2: But like it's hard to describe.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Because it was just just to be able to experience
- 2:32Speaker 3: it and feel the energy and feel the fans is
- 2:34Speaker 3: like hanging on every single pitch was awesome.
- 2:36Speaker 1: You know, I hear you say the Cubs fans have
- 2:38Speaker 1: no energy, because I.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Never wouldn't said that. No, really it was pretty electric
- 2:45Speaker 4: last year.
- 2:46Speaker 3: But no, but just like I think being in a
- 2:48Speaker 3: you know, a domed environment like that with with Marlin
- 2:50Speaker 3: Stadium and I think thirty thirty nine I think was
- 2:54Speaker 3: the count that they said for that Venezuelan game was
- 2:56Speaker 3: just I mean it was crazy.
- 2:58Speaker 4: They have the light show going and you could see everyone.
- 3:00Speaker 4: It was just it was awesome.
- 3:01Speaker 2: What was the best part? I mean, I think Harper's
- 3:04Speaker 2: home run.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Obviously I wish it was, uh, you know, the go
- 3:08Speaker 3: ahead homer or something like that, but you know, Harper's
- 3:10Speaker 3: home run just placed erupted.
- 3:11Speaker 4: It was it was awesome, Like it's the whole game,
- 3:14Speaker 4: the whole experience.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I mean from the open festivities, like, I mean, all
- 3:18Speaker 3: of it was just it was so fun to be
- 3:20Speaker 3: a part of and and getting to know those guys
- 3:22Speaker 3: like obviously it's you know, pretty start studied lineup and
- 3:24Speaker 3: starts at a team. Just like being in the little
- 3:26Speaker 3: clubhouse picking those guys' brains, I mean, having kersh all around,
- 3:29Speaker 3: Like it was awesome to be a part of all
- 3:31Speaker 3: that and just you know, get to explain it.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Everybody talks about, oh, it's a playoff environment. I remember
- 3:37Speaker 5: after the playoffs, I was exhausted. Whether it was how
- 3:41Speaker 5: much you were focused, how you know, the effort you
- 3:43Speaker 5: put in is similar to the regular season, but just
- 3:46Speaker 5: everything I felt like I was exhausted. Did you have
- 3:49Speaker 5: that same feeling after this two week tournament?
- 3:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm feeling it right now. I'll be honest with
- 3:54Speaker 3: you. It was it was hard to come down from that game.
- 3:56Speaker 3: I mean, it was just you know, so many ups
- 3:58Speaker 3: and downs of that of that final game that I
- 4:02Speaker 3: honestly don't think I slept afterwards.
- 4:03Speaker 2: We all hung out after the game a little.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Bit and just kind of you know, our last our
- 4:07Speaker 3: last time together, and you know, I went back to
- 4:10Speaker 3: my room and just I felt like I was just.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Staring at the ceiling all night.
- 4:13Speaker 3: And yesterday got in the car and me, Harper and
- 4:16Speaker 3: Shortberd drove back from Miami, and we were all saying
- 4:18Speaker 3: the same thing. It's like, I swear I don't I didn't.
- 4:20Speaker 3: I don't think I slept the night before. So it's
- 4:22Speaker 3: just it's it's pretty tough. And then obviously six am
- 4:25Speaker 3: wake up call this morning was really rough. But yeah,
- 4:28Speaker 3: just just so much adrenaline, you know, even going back
- 4:31Speaker 3: to the pool play games, because like it mattered so much.
- 4:33Speaker 3: It felt like every single game like mattered. We could
- 4:36Speaker 3: feel like we were, you know, doing something for bigger
- 4:38Speaker 3: than just us and bigger.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Than just the team. It was for the country, you know.
- 4:41Speaker 4: And yeah, I definitely definitely feel exhausted.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Right now, What are you gonna do with the silver metal?
- 4:46Speaker 2: I don't know. I want to get a gold one.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Obviously, right now I haven't just you know, it's still
- 4:55Speaker 3: just stashed away in the bags. I haven't really unpacked
- 4:57Speaker 3: anything yet. But I mean, I don't know, I don't know.
- 5:01Speaker 3: A couple of guys, yeah, I mean I get it. Yeah,
- 5:04Speaker 3: but I mean it's still cool to have a medal
- 5:06Speaker 3: and and all that stuff, But yeah, I don't know,
- 5:08Speaker 3: probably probably hanging up until you get a gold one.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Okay, that's well did uh you guys don't have any
- 5:14Speaker 1: Venezuela and guys right on the Venezuela team.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I think here with us, I think so, I think, uh,
- 5:20Speaker 3: I think I'm not sure if I'm not tirely sure, because.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I was gonna say, are they walking around with their
- 5:25Speaker 1: gold you don't have the know no one was on
- 5:28Speaker 1: the team, because I was gonna say, yeah, they can
- 5:32Speaker 1: walk around.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Ye look at Michael medal. Back to your medal.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Yeah, Hey, it was still cool though.
- 5:41Speaker 2: What else?
- 5:42Speaker 6: What else did you guys talk about in the car ride?
- 5:44Speaker 6: You're with two of the more respected guys in the
- 5:47Speaker 6: game in Harper and Schreber. What kind of combos do
- 5:50Speaker 6: you have when you get those guys? For whoever long?
- 5:53Speaker 6: The ride was about a couple of hours.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, a lot of it was just about
- 5:57Speaker 3: the tournament and things like that, like, you know, how
- 5:59Speaker 3: he thought it went, and you know, obviously you know
- 6:02Speaker 3: the energy and things like that. But you know, obviously
- 6:05Speaker 3: being teammates with him now we're a lot of the
- 6:06Speaker 3: second half of the car ride was talking about you know,
- 6:08Speaker 3: the upcoming season, you know, coming back to spring, getting
- 6:12Speaker 3: ready for all this stuff, and you know, getting to
- 6:14Speaker 3: Philly and heard it snowing up there, so getting ready
- 6:17Speaker 3: for that and things like that. You know, yeah it's
- 6:20Speaker 3: it's chilly today. But yeah, I mean it was just
- 6:23Speaker 3: a lot of random conversation.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Harper Joe.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Yeah, so we we were offered, we were offered, uh,
- 6:32Speaker 3: the car service, and he's like, I'm down to drive.
- 6:35Speaker 3: So we got a rental car and what kind of
- 6:38Speaker 3: car do you just Bryce Harper random drive?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Well, we rent it.
- 6:41Speaker 3: We had a lot of stuff, so we got a
- 6:43Speaker 3: was like a Wagoneer, like the bigger. I mean, we
- 6:45Speaker 3: had that bag, suitcases, the whole nine. Like I was
- 6:48Speaker 3: sandwiched in the back of my hand, up on my arm,
- 6:51Speaker 3: up on all the suitcases and everything. Put you in
- 6:53Speaker 3: the back. Well, I volunteer to get back there. Okay, yeah,
- 6:56Speaker 3: I let those guys get the front seats. But yeah
- 6:59Speaker 3: I wasn't. I offered a drive too, And Harper's like,
- 7:02Speaker 3: I got it.
- 7:02Speaker 5: So that show. I mean, you should offer to drive.
- 7:06Speaker 5: But he should have taken somebody. He should have had
- 7:09Speaker 5: somebody drive you guys. But my question is they talked
- 7:12Speaker 5: about changing the tournament you just finished, you just got
- 7:15Speaker 5: it done, possibly a mid season tournament, or yesterday we
- 7:19Speaker 5: had Max Schurzer on said, hey, maybe we should have
- 7:21Speaker 5: it at the end of spring training so everybody's totally
- 7:24Speaker 5: build up and then bang, you go right into the
- 7:26Speaker 5: regular season.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:29Speaker 3: I mean, I think I honestly like that idea better.
- 7:31Speaker 3: I feel like if it's at the All Star break,
- 7:33Speaker 3: it's tough because I altar break. You need the All
- 7:35Speaker 3: Star break, right, you need those four days to kind
- 7:37Speaker 3: of recoup for the for the second half push and to.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Get into that environment.
- 7:42Speaker 3: And let that be like a mid season thing and
- 7:44Speaker 3: like just knowing that you're gonna you know, come down
- 7:46Speaker 3: from that and then go try to finish out, you know,
- 7:49Speaker 3: through the dog days of July and August.
- 7:52Speaker 2: It would be a little bit tougher.
- 7:53Speaker 3: I agree with the whether it be the second half
- 7:56Speaker 3: of spring training or even just like the last two weeks.
- 7:58Speaker 4: That way, you do have guys built up.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Position players are used to playing nine innings, getting you know,
- 8:03Speaker 3: four or five at bats in the game.
- 8:05Speaker 2: I like that idea.
- 8:06Speaker 3: I think after experiencing it, you do have quite a
- 8:09Speaker 3: bit of off days, which I don't think going into it,
- 8:13Speaker 3: I didn't really realize like how many off days we
- 8:15Speaker 3: did have. But yeah, it's just it's just so much
- 8:19Speaker 3: early on with guys, Like some guys are only allowed
- 8:22Speaker 3: to throw those many pitches you know, only could throw,
- 8:24Speaker 3: you know, mandatory have a certain amount of days off
- 8:27Speaker 3: in between pitches or in between outings, and so I
- 8:29Speaker 3: feel like towards the end of spring, like pitchers are.
- 8:32Speaker 2: You know, we're kind of we have to go back
- 8:34Speaker 2: to back.
- 8:34Speaker 3: We do the one pluses and things like that, which
- 8:36Speaker 3: will give you know, d Ro a little bit more,
- 8:38Speaker 3: you know, leeway to get out there and.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Be able to study. Said he was exhausted. Oh man, yeah,
- 8:43Speaker 2: is he gonna catch nine innings? Yeah? I caught like
- 8:45Speaker 2: four inning. When I go out there and catch nine,
- 8:47Speaker 2: that's like talking to you know, Will Smith and and Cale.
- 8:51Speaker 3: About there's just like for our first game out in Arizona,
- 8:55Speaker 3: they went and caught nine, and they're like, we were
- 8:56Speaker 3: catching you know, four or five innings at a time,
- 8:58Speaker 3: and now we're catching nine for game and then cotton
- 9:01Speaker 3: nine the whole way through.
- 9:02Speaker 4: So yeah, I can only imagine how those sketches you're
- 9:04Speaker 4: feeling for sure.

- 10:04Speaker 6: thank blue Cheo for sponsoring the podcast. Hey yeah, going
- 10:10Speaker 6: back to that for a moment, because the commissioner just
- 10:12Speaker 6: brought it up and I'm with you. I don't see
- 10:14Speaker 6: how a mid season tournament would make sense, especially if
- 10:17Speaker 6: they're trying to shut the sport down for a week
- 10:20Speaker 6: or more, and then how you're keeping everyone else flowing.
- 10:22Speaker 6: I think the objectives, though, or at least that what
- 10:24Speaker 6: was mentioned, were two things. Brad One. They were like, oh,
- 10:27Speaker 6: the quality of baseball would be better in July, and
- 10:31Speaker 6: also to get more I guess pitcher participation. I'm kind
- 10:35Speaker 6: of playing off what you're saying here. Do you really
- 10:36Speaker 6: feel like that would be the case. I feel like
- 10:38Speaker 6: just as many guys that say no now would still
- 10:40Speaker 6: say no mid season. Now, what Surezer said to me
- 10:43Speaker 6: makes a little more sense because you're deeper into spring.
- 10:45Speaker 6: But I can see a lot of guys being like,
- 10:47Speaker 6: oh great, I have a break in July, so I'm
- 10:50Speaker 6: going especially pitchers. I'm going to use that to be
- 10:53Speaker 6: like my one or two weeks off. So my question is,
- 10:56Speaker 6: do you think that more pitchers would participate? And do
- 10:59Speaker 6: you really feel like the game would be that much better,
- 11:02Speaker 6: cleaner baseball in July than in late March.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Honestly, I feel like the pitcher participation would probably be
- 11:10Speaker 3: the same, like it would be.
- 11:11Speaker 4: You know, some guys would say yes, they'd be down.
- 11:13Speaker 3: The other guys would say no, just because the rest
- 11:15Speaker 3: need needing those off days in July, especially for starters.
- 11:19Speaker 3: You know they're packing on the innings. You know that
- 11:22Speaker 3: that four day break is it always seems to hit
- 11:24Speaker 3: like right at the exact time when you're starting to
- 11:26Speaker 3: really grind. So it'd be hard to say if many
- 11:30Speaker 3: guys would say yes or no just because it is,
- 11:32Speaker 3: you know, getting into the dog days of the season.
- 11:34Speaker 3: But as far as like cleaner base I mean, I
- 11:37Speaker 3: feel like you'd have to say yes just because at
- 11:40Speaker 3: that point you played one hundred in some games. You know,
- 11:42Speaker 3: like you're kind of your season right, You're you're kind
- 11:46Speaker 3: of into the swing of things, You're in a routine.
- 11:49Speaker 3: I think, just more reps, more more at bats under
- 11:52Speaker 3: your belt. I feel like you're just a little bit
- 11:55Speaker 3: maybe better quality. But I mean it would be the same.
- 11:58Speaker 3: I mean, I feel like we played you know, good
- 12:00Speaker 3: this whole time. I didn't, you know, I mean, it's
- 12:02Speaker 3: it's hard to say that we played bad baseball. It's
- 12:04Speaker 3: just you know, there's a lot yeah it's baseball, like yeah, yeah,
- 12:11Speaker 3: So I mean it's just how the game goes, you.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Know what were the did you have any restrictions because
- 12:17Speaker 1: all we heard about Mark de Rosa was restrictions, restrictions,
- 12:21Speaker 1: And then you hear from Omar Lopez and he says, well,
- 12:23Speaker 1: I called the Cubs and said plenty is pitching. Punch
- 12:27Speaker 1: was basically I'm pitching no matter what. What was it
- 12:31Speaker 1: like for you? Did you have restrictions? And then obviously
- 12:33Speaker 1: the Mason Miller thing where they brought I mean, yeah,
- 12:38Speaker 1: he's a dog, so but people were why was Mason
- 12:40Speaker 1: Miller not? And then De Rosa at oh I had
- 12:42Speaker 1: to honor the padres. Did you have any restrictions on
- 12:45Speaker 1: you from the Phillies?
- 12:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean there was a couple.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Uh.
- 12:49Speaker 3: I went into it knowing that I was gonna be
- 12:51Speaker 3: more of like the one plus guy, and so with
- 12:55Speaker 3: that they're based called you throw one plus, you got
- 12:58Speaker 3: to have like three days down. But we had so
- 13:00Speaker 3: many off days, so realistically I was up for most
- 13:03Speaker 3: of the time, just because the off days we counted
- 13:04Speaker 3: as as down days.
- 13:06Speaker 4: So but no, I mean it was uh.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I feel like they did a really good job with
- 13:11Speaker 3: with how they managed all of us. I feel like
- 13:13Speaker 3: that was obviously de ro has his hand tie with
- 13:16Speaker 3: a lot of the stuff, especially you know, obviously you
- 13:18Speaker 3: want to do right by the player because it is
- 13:19Speaker 3: spring training, right and you don't want them to be
- 13:21Speaker 3: hurt doing this, you know, and missing out on the season.
- 13:23Speaker 3: So yeah, I feel like it's for me personally, like
- 13:27Speaker 3: it kind of worked out well just you knowing that
- 13:29Speaker 3: I had, you know, or that I got all the
- 13:32Speaker 3: rest that you know I had going into Childing. I
- 13:35Speaker 3: don't think that was planned bomb, So I just think
- 13:37Speaker 3: that's how it worked out for me. But you know, obviously,
- 13:40Speaker 3: having you know, Bednard and Woodlock and Mason as there
- 13:43Speaker 3: seven eight nine, it's that's pretty hard to beat, you know.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I mean that's some of the best best arms in
- 13:48Speaker 3: the games. So you know, it's obviously we want to ride.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Then we wrote them the whole tournament, and again you
- 13:54Speaker 3: want to look out for the safety of the player
- 13:56Speaker 3: going into the season. So I feel like just you know,
- 14:00Speaker 3: Deo essentially had his hands tied in a way. But
- 14:03Speaker 3: I mean those guys, I mean, like you said, I mean,
- 14:05Speaker 3: Woodlock's unreal.
- 14:06Speaker 2: This stuff is unbelievable. I mean he.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Had some of the best change up swinging misses I've
- 14:12Speaker 3: ever seen, like and especially you know, right on riot
- 14:15Speaker 3: things like that. Just I mean, it's again, it's baseball, right, like, yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 3: it's part of it.
- 14:21Speaker 5: What's the difference between like a safe situation or the
- 14:25Speaker 5: game tied in the ninth inning and you're the closer
- 14:27Speaker 5: to come in. What's what's it? Because we heard all
- 14:30Speaker 5: about the fact that Mason Miller was gonna come in
- 14:32Speaker 5: if the team had the lead. Well, you were the
- 14:35Speaker 5: home team, if you were the lead, you guys were
- 14:36Speaker 5: slapping hands, you guys, weren't you guys weren't needing somebody
- 14:39Speaker 5: to pitch the bottom of the ninth or the bottom
- 14:41Speaker 5: of the tenth. So essentially Mason Miller was never gonna pitch.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I don't really know all the all
- 14:48Speaker 3: all that stuff, like what the rules behind that and
- 14:50Speaker 3: stuff was, But no, I mean I think we had
- 14:53Speaker 3: plenty of plenty of guys that could do the job.
- 14:55Speaker 3: And you know, obviously you know Wdlock is very capable
- 14:59Speaker 3: of doing the job as well. I mean, it's just
- 15:00Speaker 3: again like I feel like, unfortunately baseball happened, and you know,
- 15:05Speaker 3: I swears put a good swing on the ball and
- 15:07Speaker 3: unfortunately run scored.
- 15:09Speaker 2: All right, let's move on from that before we let
- 15:11Speaker 2: you go. We gotta ask a Phillies question.
- 15:12Speaker 1: We don't even ask about that because the WBC is
- 15:16Speaker 1: just just commanded the headlines for the last couple of weeks,
- 15:20Speaker 1: and obviously it was a huge success with the ratings
- 15:22Speaker 1: and and the fans that were there.
- 15:24Speaker 2: But now you're in Philly.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Are you excited to go to Philadelphia and see what
- 15:27Speaker 1: this Philly craziness is all about?
- 15:29Speaker 2: I am, I'm really excited about it. I mean, even
- 15:31Speaker 2: with those guys, everyone.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Talked about Philly and how fun it was, and everyone
- 15:34Speaker 3: that I've you know, talked to that played here and
- 15:38Speaker 3: all said it's their favorite place, and it's it's so
- 15:40Speaker 3: funny get out there in front of those fans and
- 15:42Speaker 3: and such a fan base that it was very passionate about,
- 15:45Speaker 3: you know, the Phillies.
- 15:46Speaker 2: And and you know wants to succeed well.
- 15:48Speaker 1: As Kratz knows Kratz lives outside Philly. If you do
- 15:51Speaker 1: really well, I mean, they'll just do you louder. So
- 15:53Speaker 1: if you get dude right crabs, then that means you're
- 15:55Speaker 1: doing it all right. And isn't that how it works
- 15:57Speaker 1: in Philadelphia.
- 15:58Speaker 5: Philly fans never to a player who's not booing themselves inside.
- 16:04Speaker 6: Wow, that's that's really.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it is true. That is a that's T shirt
- 16:10Speaker 1: stuff right there. Thank you very much, really appreciate you.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Looking forward to what you can do in Philadelphia. Hopefully
- 16:15Speaker 1: we see you in the playoffs and make a deep
- 16:17Speaker 1: run and get some excitement.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Sir. I appreciate it. Excited for it. Thank you. I
- 16:20Speaker 2: appreciate it.

- 16:55Speaker 6: back to one pm, and then we'll be one pm
- 16:57Speaker 6: for good. After that, let's season preview, shall we. Let's
- 17:08Speaker 6: talk Phillies krat to get to watch this team a lot.
- 17:11Speaker 6: You live in Pennsylvania. What's the vibe this year. It's
- 17:14Speaker 6: not like there's been nothing in terms of additions and subtractions.
- 17:16Speaker 6: We can show that as you're chatting. But you do
- 17:19Speaker 6: get the narrative of running it back. It's a narrative
- 17:23Speaker 6: for the Yankees, it's a narrative recently for the Phillies.
- 17:26Speaker 6: Do you feel like they're running it back or do
- 17:27Speaker 6: you feel like things will look differently with a couple
- 17:29Speaker 6: names crossed off the list, a couple names added, and
- 17:32Speaker 6: some prospects that could be entering the fold.
- 17:36Speaker 5: Let's buy this way. If they didn't run it back
- 17:38Speaker 5: with the Kyle Schwarber, with the JT. Real Muto, with
- 17:41Speaker 5: the fact that you know they they I guess they
- 17:45Speaker 5: have a Lizardo's on the list there. But that was
- 17:48Speaker 5: an extension to me. If those two guys, and that's
- 17:51Speaker 5: where they're saying, oh, they're just running it back. If
- 17:53Speaker 5: they don't bring those guys in, who did they bring in?
- 17:57Speaker 5: Like if they move bom over to first and they
- 17:59Speaker 5: definitely take Bobachet to the finish line. They tried, they
- 18:04Speaker 5: tried their best to me this is a different looking team.
- 18:08Speaker 5: Is it a better team? I don't know. To me,
- 18:10Speaker 5: I feel like the Phillies right now are like that
- 18:14Speaker 5: time when you're in the middle of a long running
- 18:17Speaker 5: race and you're halfway there and you're like, well, I
- 18:21Speaker 5: guess I can't turn back now, Like I gotta finish
- 18:24Speaker 5: the race, Like I'm halfway to thirteen miles, I gotta
- 18:28Speaker 5: get six and a half miles back that way, or
- 18:30Speaker 5: six and a half miles to the finish line mine
- 18:33Speaker 5: as well, finish it out. Can they do it? Yes,
- 18:36Speaker 5: they can definitely do it. Who's gonna need to step up?
- 18:38Speaker 5: You're gonna need a rookie and Andrew Painter to step up.
- 18:41Speaker 5: You're gonna need to hope that Zach Wheeler makes it back.
- 18:44Speaker 5: You're gonna need to hope that a guy like Adolice
- 18:47Speaker 5: Garcia is brought in to not have the last two
- 18:51Speaker 5: years that he had the last two years or exactly
- 18:54Speaker 5: what they got rid of in Nick Costiano's but they
- 18:56Speaker 5: had to eat twenty million, So essentially a Dolees has
- 18:59Speaker 5: cost them. I'm not sure. I think Adolis was like
- 19:02Speaker 5: ten or twelve million dollars. Adules is technically costing them
- 19:06Speaker 5: thirty two million dollars unless he has the type of
- 19:09Speaker 5: year that they hope he is gonna have.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Listen, I think the Phillies are still a good team.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I have in addition some tractions, whatever you want to say,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I think the Phillies are still a good team, and
- 19:21Speaker 1: I think they have a great nucleus of guys that
- 19:23Speaker 1: can win again. They're then you're gonna need some things
- 19:26Speaker 1: to go right because do the Mets improve, Yes, we
- 19:28Speaker 1: think the Braves will be better than last year.
- 19:30Speaker 5: Yes.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Do we think the Marlins could be better than last year? Possibly?
- 19:33Speaker 5: Yes.
- 19:34Speaker 1: So I think the phillies stranglehold on this division might
- 19:38Speaker 1: be loosening a little bit. But I still think they
- 19:41Speaker 1: have a good team, and I still think they have
- 19:42Speaker 1: a group of guys that can go out there and win.
- 19:44Speaker 1: They're a little bit older now, but they still are
- 19:47Speaker 1: solid guys that know how to play in big games,
- 19:49Speaker 1: know how to do things in big situations, and their
- 19:52Speaker 1: starting rotation is still strong. Wheeler is going to be
- 19:54Speaker 1: back probably the end of April early May. You still
- 19:57Speaker 1: have Nola, you still have Lozardo, and you still have Sanchez,
- 20:01Speaker 1: Christopher Sanchez, So you still have the makings of a
- 20:04Speaker 1: good rotation. You had Keller to the back end Alvarado's back,
- 20:07Speaker 1: you have Deron, and then you throw in and Andrew
- 20:10Speaker 1: Painter in the rotation as the fifth guy. Possibly they
- 20:13Speaker 1: still have the makings of a really good team. So
- 20:16Speaker 1: just because they made some subtractions, they also made some
- 20:19Speaker 1: additions and I still think this team has a chance
- 20:21Speaker 1: to be pretty darn good.
- 20:24Speaker 5: The tired or not tired. But the lazy narrative is, well,
- 20:29Speaker 5: you know last year, like this team, like everybody feels different.
- 20:34Speaker 5: Guys work on things, Guys get a year older. Sometimes
- 20:38Speaker 5: that's good, sometimes that's bad. It's all the narrative like
- 20:42Speaker 5: last year is behind this team this year? How are
- 20:47Speaker 5: they going to do a lot of the really good
- 20:50Speaker 5: things that they did last year but then take it
- 20:53Speaker 5: to the next step. And the next step isn't making
- 20:55Speaker 5: it to the NLCS. The next step for this team
- 20:58Speaker 5: is a World Series. I think is a failure of
- 21:01Speaker 5: a year. Probably even last year they would have said that,
- 21:04Speaker 5: the players would have said that if they don't win
- 21:08Speaker 5: the World Series. So I think it's a it's high
- 21:10Speaker 5: expectations and something that Aj said about stranglehold on the division,
- 21:15Speaker 5: I don't know that they need a stranglehold on the division.
- 21:17Speaker 5: I don't know, you know, I guess we lean on
- 21:20Speaker 5: what the Dodgers have done and they get into the
- 21:22Speaker 5: postseason and they're healthy and hitting on all cylinders. While
- 21:26Speaker 5: it may look differently than the last year when they
- 21:28Speaker 5: won the World Series, the Phillies need to be able
- 21:31Speaker 5: to do that. And I think that every year that
- 21:33Speaker 5: Topper spends another year in a managerial seat because he's
- 21:37Speaker 5: been in a dugout for I think two decades now,
- 21:40Speaker 5: it's something that he's learning how this team needs to
- 21:45Speaker 5: win in big situations. This Phillies team needs to win
- 21:48Speaker 5: in big situations in October. They don't need to win
- 21:53Speaker 5: all the games during the season. So do they want
- 21:56Speaker 5: to win the division? Absolutely? Do they need to make
- 22:01Speaker 5: sure that they do better in the postseason. Absolutely, That's
- 22:04Speaker 5: what this team is built for. And will they do it?
- 22:08Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 22:09Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 22:09Speaker 2: They have a good team though.
- 22:13Speaker 6: When you look at the rest of the division. To me,
- 22:16Speaker 6: the Mets are tough to predict. Last year ended up
- 22:20Speaker 6: being a disaster finish for them. They should be better,
- 22:23Speaker 6: but there's a lot of variants there. There are a
- 22:24Speaker 6: lot of new faces, they really switched it up. They
- 22:27Speaker 6: went the other way, like, Okay, some teams are running
- 22:29Speaker 6: it back. We're just gonna scrap this. Let a bunch
- 22:31Speaker 6: of dudes leave, enter a bunch of new names. When
- 22:35Speaker 6: it comes to the Braves, AJ the Phillies offensively, I
- 22:40Speaker 6: think are right there with Atlanta, if not a little better.
- 22:43Speaker 6: And pitching wise, I feel much better about Philly than
- 22:46Speaker 6: I do about Atlanta. So when we're looking at an
- 22:49Speaker 6: alas projections, here fangrafts, they've got eighty nine point seven
- 22:53Speaker 6: for Mets, eighty nine point three for Braves, eighty seven
- 22:55Speaker 6: point nine for Phillies. For me, the Phillies are the
- 22:59Speaker 6: safest bet to be a playoff team in the division.
- 23:03Speaker 6: I feel really confident about that. If there's one team
- 23:05Speaker 6: where you're like, I feel like a lot would have
- 23:07Speaker 6: to go wrong for this team to not make the playoffs.
- 23:10Speaker 6: For me, it's Philly, right the variant of the match.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I can't believe, right, I kept their third on that
- 23:18Speaker 2: list apparently.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I don't know when those were put out, but that
- 23:21Speaker 1: can't be before Schwellenbach and some of the other guys
- 23:24Speaker 1: for the Braves started going down. I can't imagine that
- 23:27Speaker 1: it is, so I don't know how the Phillies are
- 23:29Speaker 1: third on LS. For me, I think Phillies in the
- 23:31Speaker 1: match maybe switch because the Mets, to me, still have
- 23:34Speaker 1: a lot to prove, especially in their starting rotation and
- 23:37Speaker 1: their pitching with some of the moves that they made.
- 23:39Speaker 1: So it's gonna be an interesting division. But those three
- 23:42Speaker 1: teams all can make the playoffs. And like you said, Scott,
- 23:45Speaker 1: I think Philly is the surest bet just because they've
- 23:47Speaker 1: been there and done that, and they know what they're
- 23:48Speaker 1: going to get and they have a guy in Dave
- 23:50Speaker 1: Dombrowski that is not afraid to go make the move
- 23:52Speaker 1: that he needs to make.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I like that. You're right, that's always the wild
- 23:58Speaker 5: card that will give you a few extra wins. Where
- 24:00Speaker 5: you're talking about projections. But is the same narrative said
- 24:05Speaker 5: about the Braves when teams said were when people say, oh,
- 24:08Speaker 5: they're running it back? Are the Braves just running it back? Well,
- 24:11Speaker 5: they have to run it back. Everybody's on the everybody's
- 24:14Speaker 5: on an extension. They added Robert Suarez to the end
- 24:17Speaker 5: of their bullpen. Like yeah, like I think teams, I
- 24:20Speaker 5: think good teams that run it back. I don't think
- 24:23Speaker 5: it's a big deal. Did they fall short of their goal? Yes,
- 24:26Speaker 5: I think they were fifth or sixth in the league
- 24:29Speaker 5: and hitting. So you run that same lineup back, I
- 24:31Speaker 5: feel like that's pretty decent. You know the Yankees, that
- 24:35Speaker 5: narrative is happening. They had the highest wins weighted runs
- 24:39Speaker 5: created plus in the league. So I'm pretty sure that
- 24:42Speaker 5: was a good lineup. You run it back, I'm pretty
- 24:44Speaker 5: sure it's going to be good again.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 6: It also helps when you're bringing the same players back
- 24:53Speaker 6: on a year to year basis that all know each other.
- 24:55Speaker 2: And I know you.
- 24:56Speaker 6: Can overrate the chemistry factor AJ, but when have the
- 25:00Speaker 6: same mix and there's some star power, now you think
- 25:03Speaker 6: do you do you think that it can get stale
- 25:07Speaker 6: or do you think it's it's easier the guys that
- 25:09Speaker 6: have right, it raises the floor in my mind. Right,
- 25:12Speaker 6: you know what you're getting with a lot of the guys.
- 25:14Speaker 6: And then here's the thing, one or two of the
- 25:17Speaker 6: young guys could break out. Andrew Painter, Justin Crawford, maybe
- 25:21Speaker 6: Aiden Miller at some point later in the season. They
- 25:23Speaker 6: have some blue chip prospects, and I would venture that
- 25:27Speaker 6: at least one of them is going to be a
- 25:28Speaker 6: major contributor this year, and up to three could.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Crawford for sure.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I mean, I talked to Kevin Long and he's he's
- 25:36Speaker 1: he loves this guy. He loves his back to all skills,
- 25:38Speaker 1: he loves his barrel awareness. He absolutely loves Crawford, So
- 25:44Speaker 1: I think he's going to be a major factor. And
- 25:46Speaker 1: Painter is probably going to be in the rotation breaking camp.
- 25:48Speaker 1: So I think at least two of those guys will
- 25:50Speaker 1: be major factors for the Phillies this year, and they're
- 25:52Speaker 1: both ultra talented. We saw glimpses of Painter before he
- 25:55Speaker 1: got injured, but what he can do not as many
- 25:58Speaker 1: what is I think Crawford's won batting title of two
- 26:00Speaker 1: of the three league years he's played, so that dude
- 26:02Speaker 1: can hit, he can run, he can play center field.
- 26:04Speaker 1: So I think the Phillies are in good shape prospect wise.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Yep.
- 26:09Speaker 6: Hey, if you're watching this later on, drop a comment.
- 26:11Speaker 6: Let us know your thoughts on the Phillies for the
- 26:13Speaker 6: upcoming season. Anything you liked or didn't like about what

- 26:31Speaker 1: Here at Phillies Camp with bench coach for the Phillies
- 26:33Speaker 1: Don Mattingley, who was one of my favorite players growing up,
- 26:37Speaker 1: being from New York, you know, cratzy. He was kind
- 26:40Speaker 1: of in my prime growing up as a kid in
- 26:41Speaker 1: New York. Don Mattingly was the man hitting homers every night,
- 26:45Speaker 1: not quite every night, it was there was a stretch there,
- 26:48Speaker 1: a little scretch, yeah, small.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Scretch, nice little run.
- 26:53Speaker 1: I'll play a little bit, a little bit, a little bit,
- 26:55Speaker 1: and I fight for you. I think you should be
- 26:57Speaker 1: in the Hall of Fame. I'll thank you, I'll fight.
- 26:59Speaker 1: I'll fight you, and for kind of it's my two
- 27:01Speaker 1: favorites growing up. I think, yeah, I appreciate that. Being
- 27:04Speaker 1: in merchhed class, that'd be. That's a good that's a
- 27:07Speaker 1: good guy to be with. Are two of the nicest
- 27:09Speaker 1: human beings I've ever met in my life. That's where
- 27:12Speaker 1: you live, right. You treat people with respect, hopefully get
- 27:15Speaker 1: it back you don't.
- 27:16Speaker 2: It's no problem. How was it over here in Philly Land.
- 27:19Speaker 2: It's good. It's good.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I got a chance to to work under my
- 27:24Speaker 1: son is your boss. He's my boss officially. Yeah, I
- 27:30Speaker 1: am an hr nightmare for him. I will not watch
- 27:33Speaker 1: the dog or anything else. So yeah, here's boss.
- 27:38Speaker 6: Right.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Wow, So you can't ground here. They're grounded.
- 27:43Speaker 1: He's been gone for a while. At least he's off
- 27:46Speaker 1: the payroll. That's the way I look at it. Is
- 27:48Speaker 1: it Is it different?
- 27:49Speaker 2: Is it strange? It's gotta be awesome day. No, it's
- 27:54Speaker 2: it's it's it's great.
- 27:56Speaker 1: But when you come from the era that I came from,
- 28:01Speaker 1: you know, the locker room is sacred. You don't want
- 28:04Speaker 1: anybody to feel like you're a messenger to the top
- 28:07Speaker 1: or whatever. Today's game is a lot different because the
- 28:10Speaker 1: front offices are down in the locker room all the
- 28:12Speaker 1: time talking with guys. So it's probably a lot more
- 28:14Speaker 1: comfortable now than it would have been fifteen.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Twenty years ago.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's weird for me when I walk in there,
- 28:20Speaker 1: right right, I'm all, yeah, how fast.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Can I get out of it? Yeah?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Once you leave the locker room, it's funny. Even going
- 28:27Speaker 1: back into New York a couple of years after I played,
- 28:31Speaker 1: I didn't want to be in there, you know, especially
- 28:34Speaker 1: anywhere close to game time, because I felt like I
- 28:36Speaker 1: was infringing upon her space and where they want to
- 28:39Speaker 1: get ready, and that's their place, right There's not too
- 28:41Speaker 1: many spaces for players to be able to hang out,
- 28:45Speaker 1: talk talk shop or talk you know, talk bs and feel.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Comfortable doing it.
- 28:51Speaker 1: So I was never comfortable going back in there if
- 28:54Speaker 1: I wasn't a part of it.
- 28:55Speaker 5: What do you bring to this staff? What do you
- 28:58Speaker 5: don manning all your experience, all the years bring to
- 29:01Speaker 5: this staff that has had success and gone to the
- 29:04Speaker 5: playoffs the last few years.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Now, this is a team that's had tons of success.
- 29:09Speaker 1: So I think the one thing that I bring is
- 29:11Speaker 1: a different set of eyes, some questions for TOMPs during games,
- 29:17Speaker 1: but ability hopefully to be able to connect with players
- 29:23Speaker 1: and what's that next little step, that next detail that
- 29:26Speaker 1: we have to take care of to win a championship
- 29:29Speaker 1: or to move on into playoffs. As you get into
- 29:32Speaker 1: the playoffs, we know over one sixty two the best
- 29:35Speaker 1: team is usually gonna win, But when you get into a.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Five game set or a seven game set.
- 29:40Speaker 1: It's who plays best, and momentum is a big part
- 29:43Speaker 1: of that and small plays mean something. So hopefully I'm
- 29:48Speaker 1: just another set of eyes and a conversation within during.
- 29:52Speaker 2: The season, what was the proving touch to you? Because
- 29:54Speaker 2: you're in Toronto.
- 29:55Speaker 1: You guys were four inches away from winning the World
- 29:58Speaker 1: Series last year. Ye did they recruit you over here
- 30:01Speaker 1: to Philly or was it just something once you decided
- 30:04Speaker 1: to leave Toronto, if your son came to you and
- 30:06Speaker 1: gave you some nil money.
- 30:09Speaker 2: I don't know about nil money.
- 30:10Speaker 1: But I went into the season last year knowing that,
- 30:14Speaker 1: you know, thinking that that was going to be my
- 30:16Speaker 1: last season of kind of on the field, travel and
- 30:19Speaker 1: doing all that, and so I kind of enjoyed that
- 30:23Speaker 1: last year. And obviously the run that Toronto went on
- 30:26Speaker 1: was was a lot of fun and those guys were
- 30:29Speaker 1: a lot of fun. And as that season ended, you know,
- 30:32Speaker 1: I mean, you've been in those situations. Once the season ends,
- 30:35Speaker 1: it's like crash and you're just like exhausted. And a
- 30:40Speaker 1: couple of days later, Dave calls me. Preston had called
- 30:43Speaker 1: me a couple of days after and said, hey, Dave
- 30:45Speaker 1: wants to talk to you, and then we talked about
- 30:48Speaker 1: the situation. And at that point I felt like I
- 30:51Speaker 1: needed time, Like I wasn't I really didn't plan on it.
- 30:55Speaker 1: The one positive that happened during all that, I think
- 30:58Speaker 1: as far as me continuing was like an eleven year
- 31:01Speaker 1: old now that's into baseball and just loved last year,
- 31:04Speaker 1: and he was kind of like, Dad, you got to
- 31:06Speaker 1: keep going, and I was kind of like, I don't know,
- 31:10Speaker 1: and we kind of kept thinking through it and talking
- 31:12Speaker 1: about it as a family, and then Dave's you know what,
- 31:15Speaker 1: Dave thought I brought to the table. That's something that
- 31:17Speaker 1: they needed, and it was like, Okay, let's go. And
- 31:21Speaker 1: Preston being here a granddaughter in Philly, so it makes
- 31:25Speaker 1: it feels.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Like family in it.
- 31:27Speaker 1: And it's nice to be on the same team, honestly
- 31:30Speaker 1: with Preston because as we've talked over the years, he
- 31:33Speaker 1: was in San Diego, Miami, he's over here when I'm
- 31:37Speaker 1: in the Blue Jays, and it's like he's always telling
- 31:40Speaker 1: me what I should be doing or what we should
- 31:42Speaker 1: be doing. But now to be on the same team,
- 31:45Speaker 1: kind of fighting for the same thing, it's kind of cool.
- 31:48Speaker 5: Were you part of the bo Nil pitch getting Boba
- 31:52Speaker 5: Schett to come over because you were already on staff
- 31:55Speaker 5: here with Philly and it just came so close to
- 31:58Speaker 5: getting him.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Well, you know, obviously I'm not part of making a
- 32:03Speaker 1: decision that they want to, you know, look into Bow
- 32:06Speaker 1: or try to bring Bou here. But it was on
- 32:09Speaker 1: a zoom call with Bou. I knew what kind of
- 32:12Speaker 1: player he was. I knew how good he was, what
- 32:15Speaker 1: he brought to the table. So I guess in a
- 32:17Speaker 1: sense I was part of it. But you know, obviously
- 32:22Speaker 1: when New York comes with that kind of what they
- 32:24Speaker 1: did with him is like you can't hardly you know,
- 32:28Speaker 1: you can't fall to the player, right. I know, Philly's
- 32:31Speaker 1: Pitchel Shiege, but that was was was something different when
- 32:36Speaker 1: you when you see the money, it's being thrown around
- 32:39Speaker 1: to it and obviously as a player, I'm one players
- 32:43Speaker 1: to get every dollar thing you get, right, You ever
- 32:45Speaker 1: look back because I think, man, what could I have done?
- 32:49Speaker 1: I know it's a weird thing, but sometimes people say
- 32:51Speaker 1: if you would have played it to me, if you
- 32:53Speaker 1: would have played now like much, I don't know if
- 32:54Speaker 1: I would have made that much right, right, but you
- 32:56Speaker 1: were super Yeah, I think you in a since you go,
- 33:01Speaker 1: you know you were that guy or at one point
- 33:03Speaker 1: I was kind of in that tier right where I
- 33:05Speaker 1: think I signed a five year deal at nineteen something,
- 33:09Speaker 1: and that the highest paid at that point, right, And
- 33:12Speaker 1: guys kept jumping in obviously.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Over the years.
- 33:16Speaker 1: But I look at it a little differently because I
- 33:17Speaker 1: looked at Mickey mannon I play in New York. I
- 33:20Speaker 1: came in, I was making decent money of the time there,
- 33:24Speaker 1: and they talked about Mickey never made over one hundred grand,
- 33:27Speaker 1: And that's just the way the game goes, right.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Your timing in the game is where it happens. And
- 33:32Speaker 2: I'm with you. You want players to make money and
- 33:35Speaker 2: you want the game to grow. You feel like.
- 33:37Speaker 1: They're not giving money out that they don't have. Obviously,
- 33:41Speaker 1: we're walking into a situation next year. There's no agreement yet.
- 33:45Speaker 1: We'll see where it goes. Hopefully it's something for baseball
- 33:49Speaker 1: that because you want to continue. The game's in a
- 33:52Speaker 1: great spot, I mean as far as fans and people
- 33:55Speaker 1: at the games and things like that.
- 33:57Speaker 2: So you want the game to continue. You don't want
- 33:59Speaker 2: to see stop bitch.
- 34:02Speaker 5: Yeah for sure. And and as a player who has
- 34:05Speaker 5: gone through all those things, how hard is it for
- 34:08Speaker 5: you to hear lockout strike all that stuff?
- 34:13Speaker 2: Well? I was, I was.
- 34:15Speaker 1: I was part of the ninety four, you know Strike
- 34:18Speaker 1: that ended up missing the World series.
- 34:19Speaker 2: So you know what guys have fought for.
- 34:23Speaker 1: I've just been you know, when I came into the game,
- 34:26Speaker 1: it seemed like every year, every couple of years there
- 34:29Speaker 1: was there was conflict and guys were fighting. So I
- 34:33Speaker 1: always looked at it like, I know a lot of
- 34:35Speaker 1: guys fought for me, right, and I wanted to continue
- 34:39Speaker 1: that fight, you know, to continue to go the game
- 34:42Speaker 1: and help players as I was in it. And so
- 34:46Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's one of those things, right. You
- 34:49Speaker 1: want the game to grow, you want it to be good.
- 34:51Speaker 1: But I've also been part of the fights over the
- 34:53Speaker 1: years for guys' rights. Basically agreed, Yeah, ninety four, I
- 35:00Speaker 1: signed my first spring to the place players right. I
- 35:04Speaker 1: tried to explain to this the guys that I played
- 35:06Speaker 1: with twenty years later, you guys don't understand what people
- 35:10Speaker 1: before you went through to get to the point where
- 35:12Speaker 1: you guys are making the money you're making. So I
- 35:14Speaker 1: totally agree with what you just said. Remember the people
- 35:17Speaker 1: came before you, what the sacrifices that they gave. Right
- 35:21Speaker 1: when you're here in camp, you have Kevin Long next
- 35:23Speaker 1: to us, in the batting cage. Do you ever go
- 35:25Speaker 1: in there and say, Kevin, no, it's not launch angle.
- 35:27Speaker 1: I swing down on the ball. I want to let
- 35:30Speaker 1: it get on top of the ball. I go in there,
- 35:33Speaker 1: and I don't talk to Kevin like that. Kevin is
- 35:36Speaker 1: one of the obviously one of the best, if not
- 35:38Speaker 1: the best guy in the game, if one of the best,
- 35:40Speaker 1: and Kevin also doesn't go in there and go you know,
- 35:43Speaker 1: I know angle, but you know I do like I
- 35:47Speaker 1: love going in the cage.
- 35:48Speaker 2: It's one of my favorite places to hang out.
- 35:50Speaker 1: No, I don't hit, and I probably can't yet, but
- 35:53Speaker 1: I like to think I could, right, you know, it's
- 35:56Speaker 1: like the old boxer that that tries to block a
- 35:59Speaker 1: punch me after he got hit. So those reactions are gone.
- 36:02Speaker 1: But I love going into cage in that area of
- 36:07Speaker 1: the game. I really believe that hitting has not changed
- 36:11Speaker 1: that much.
- 36:12Speaker 2: The swing.
- 36:13Speaker 1: The guys that hit in the past and the best
- 36:15Speaker 1: hitters today are doing a lot of the same stuff.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Our language just changed, as far as you know.
- 36:22Speaker 1: You know, we're talking vert, we're talking horizontal, we're talking
- 36:25Speaker 1: spin rate, things like that, the same things.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Those terms.
- 36:30Speaker 1: All they meant to me was this guy's ball jumps
- 36:32Speaker 1: at the top, you got to push him down right
- 36:35Speaker 1: and things like that was a simpler way of going
- 36:38Speaker 1: about it. But the swing itself, to me, still works
- 36:41Speaker 1: the same way with guys that are.
- 36:42Speaker 2: The best hitters.
- 36:44Speaker 5: All right, Do you guys have a limit on the
- 36:46Speaker 5: amount of Yankee stories that you guys are allowed to
- 36:49Speaker 5: tell with Topper k Long you like, I remember when
- 36:54Speaker 5: George was like this, or I remember when Tory was
- 36:57Speaker 5: like this.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Well, if you're in locker room with Bow, uh, Charlie Manuel,
- 37:03Speaker 1: there's lots of stories flying from all different organizations, so
- 37:06Speaker 1: the Yankee stories are all just part of it. Yeah, yeah,
- 37:11Speaker 1: but I would love to sitting there when you crouch
- 37:13Speaker 1: and just listen to the Yankee stories between from that,
- 37:16Speaker 1: from those times between.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Charlie Man, Charlie's Charlie is the best.
- 37:22Speaker 5: I want to hear. I want to hear Charlie talk
- 37:24Speaker 5: about stories about hitting. And then Larry Bow is like
- 37:27Speaker 5: the little Chilua ones like yeah, Charlie say all, tell
- 37:29Speaker 5: all you want, and Toppers just sitting back there, just relaxing,
- 37:32Speaker 5: kicking on his fingernail.
- 37:34Speaker 2: It's like not listening and kind of listening. That's the
- 37:39Speaker 2: way it is.
- 37:40Speaker 5: You got it.
- 37:40Speaker 1: You got to see now you don't have to be
- 37:42Speaker 1: in there because you already know what's going on.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Well, Donnie, thank you.
- 37:47Speaker 1: By the way, I have to say this, the poster
- 37:49Speaker 1: you had is still probably the best poster.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Of all time. Oh the hit man, Oh my gosh,
- 37:54Speaker 2: are you kidding me? The suit? Yeah? You know, a
- 37:58Speaker 2: quick story.
- 37:58Speaker 1: I did a little meniscus in between eighty four and
- 38:02Speaker 1: eighty five, and i'd won the bat and title in
- 38:05Speaker 1: eighty four. So I come back and I'm in camp
- 38:07Speaker 1: and they're shooting that and George I got this suit
- 38:10Speaker 1: on in there and they're shooting this commercial and George
- 38:13Speaker 1: walks by, and I'm like going, ah, man, this looks
- 38:16Speaker 1: so bad.
- 38:17Speaker 2: With him walking through me in this suit. But it
- 38:20Speaker 2: ended up being really cool. I'm sure George probably didn't
- 38:22Speaker 2: say anything to you.
- 38:24Speaker 1: He didn't say anything then he may have been thinking
- 38:25Speaker 1: of though you just looked at you, just kind of
- 38:27Speaker 1: looked at you this guy.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Yeah, And I'm like like, ugh, it's not good. Donnie.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Thank you very much. We appreciate it. We'll be right back,
- 38:42Speaker 2: all right.
- 38:42Speaker 6: That's a fun one today. Bet MGM futures and we're
- 38:46Speaker 6: looking at the most bet players to hit forty plus
- 38:49Speaker 6: home runs. This doesn't mean that a fan thinks, or
- 38:53Speaker 6: you know, a better thinks that this is the player
- 38:55Speaker 6: that's the most likely. It's the combination of having a
- 39:00Speaker 6: good feel and liking the odds. Okay, Colson Montgomery at
- 39:06Speaker 6: plus sixteen hundred, this will be his first full season.
- 39:09Speaker 6: He's getting a lot of love on tickets. So is
- 39:12Speaker 6: Murakami at plus one thousand. Third most bet in terms
- 39:16Speaker 6: of tickets Spencer Torkolsen at plus sixteen hundred, Kyle Tucker
- 39:20Speaker 6: four at plus nine hundred, and Fernando Tatis Junior at
- 39:24Speaker 6: plus six hundred. Anything to pick out here from the trends, AJ,
- 39:28Speaker 6: we got to go to you first. The two most
- 39:30Speaker 6: bet tickets are White Sox players.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Duh be surprised.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Well, Montgomery had a monster second half last year with
- 39:39Speaker 1: the home runs, and they're hoping Murakami comes in and
- 39:42Speaker 1: hits forty. So I think that, you know, I think
- 39:46Speaker 1: it's awesome. And Kyle Tucker is the one on there.
- 39:48Speaker 2: I don't know. He hit forty in LA. That's different
- 39:50Speaker 2: than Houston. I don't know.
- 39:52Speaker 1: I don't know about that one. Tatisas in San Diego.
- 39:55Speaker 1: I don't know, but two on the top of the list.
- 39:57Speaker 1: They definitely can do it if they continue to do
- 39:59Speaker 1: what they done in the past and continued to grow
- 40:02Speaker 1: more Commedy's done in Japan. I know Montgomery with the
- 40:05Speaker 1: way he had a second half last year, but White Sox, Dude,
- 40:09Speaker 1: White Sox, this.
- 40:11Speaker 5: Will be This will be quite a summer if if
- 40:13Speaker 5: either of those top two guys hits forty home runs.
- 40:16Speaker 5: AJ will just be beaming on the show. He'll be like, Oh,
- 40:21Speaker 5: the Cubs suck. The White Sox are the best.
- 40:24Speaker 4: To me.
- 40:25Speaker 5: I think more Kami. I think Mori Kami has the
- 40:27Speaker 5: opportunity to because of the fact that the league will
- 40:32Speaker 5: try to still learn him. Coolson Montgomery, I mean if
- 40:35Speaker 5: he gets five hundred bats based on the pace that
- 40:37Speaker 5: he hit him last year, Yeah, I have forty two
- 40:40Speaker 5: and I think he's gonna get more than five hundred
- 40:42Speaker 5: at bats. But both of them are easily the best
- 40:46Speaker 5: two choices that tatis come on, you know, you know
- 40:50Speaker 5: who's sweating forty homers. That's gonna be tough in San Diego.
- 40:54Speaker 6: Mm hm, hey, March Madness has begun. Bet m Jam's
