- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist, and also
- 0:09happened to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good evening from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So tucking all the girls in and today was clean coop day.
- 0:35So every couple weeks I tear this place apart, take out all
- 0:39the straw, strip it out, make it neat, redo it all, put fresh
- 0:44straw in and get them all set up all over again.
- 0:48And they absolutely love this process.
- 0:51Now why am I telling you about this?
- 0:53Well, be partly because, one, everyone likes to know how I
- 0:57take care of the chicken and it's and it's a thing for me to
- 1:00really be able to say yes. I do this regularly for them.
- 1:04And there are some people out there that don't they do all
- 1:07different methods of caring for them, but I buy bales of wheat
- 1:10straw, bring it in, swap it out to make sure they're in the best
- 1:14environment that they can be in. And to me, this is like clean
- 1:18sheet day for me. I love the days when I get to
- 1:22have clean sheets on the bed. Now, here's what's funny about
- 1:25this. We make the rules with all of
- 1:26this. I could have clean sheets every
- 1:28day if I wanted to, right? I mean, if I felt like taking
- 1:31the bed apart every single day, washing sheets, swapping them
- 1:34out, putting them on, doing whatever, I could have five sets
- 1:37of sheets and I could do it every day then would I
- 1:40appreciate it? It's always a fascinating
- 1:43thought as much. So how often do you change the
- 1:47sheets on your bed? Interesting.
- 1:49I change mine once a week because one, I love clean sheet
- 1:53day, but I don't love it enough to do it every single day
- 1:56because that's a nuisance. But I do love clean sheet day
- 2:00and it got me thinking about how the chicken coop was very much
- 2:03like clean sheet day and all these other things that's like
- 2:07that we do in our lives and we appreciate them.
- 2:09But do we do them often enough? Like taking care of yourself, go
- 2:12getting a massage or doing something?
- 2:14I see the chiropractor once a week because it's necessary for
- 2:18what I do with coaching. I I have to, if I don't, I
- 2:21physically go downhill, my ears back up.
- 2:23It's crazy stuff that happens. But I do, I see a chiropractor
- 2:26once a week and that's absolute non negotiable for me.
- 2:30Going for a massage? Oh God I can't even remember the
- 2:33last time. So this all started with a
- 2:35simple thought of cleaning the coop, went to clean sheet day
- 2:38and here we are talking about when's the last time I had a
- 2:40massage. When's the last time you had a
- 2:42massage? What are the things you're doing
- 2:44to care for yourself regularly? And I do a lot of self-care when
- 2:49it comes to the mental stuff of being like, OK, planting things.
- 2:53Like I spent a good chunk of my afternoon was open.
- 2:57So I use that for time to go and put plants in the garden.
- 3:02I got tons of things planted today.
- 3:04They were in the garage ready to come out.
- 3:07And they, you know, are now I've got, let me see, I've got
- 3:11melons, I've got cucumbers, I've got tons of tomatoes, I've got
- 3:15pink celery, which I've never grown before.
- 3:18Trying some other stuff that's new.
- 3:19I've got herbs in the ground. And I actually had some success
- 3:23to trying to put some onions together, chipolini onions, and
- 3:28I'm planting those now. That to me is a high level of
- 3:32self-care. Now somebody might look at that
- 3:33and go, that's hell having to work and do that.
- 3:35But for me it's mental self-care.
- 3:37I love doing it and it feels really good, but there's other
- 3:41things that I don't do like and I know that and I need to put
- 3:45those into play, just like putting clean sheets on the bed.
- 3:49I don't have to do them all the time, but I have to make them
- 3:51part of it and be more aware of it, be more specific with it, be
- 3:57more intentional with it. And the question for you is, are
- 4:00you doing that? Are you making it intentional?
- 4:02Are you putting things down? Now?
- 4:04I, I will say I do it in areas that might be more convenient.
- 4:11So in other words, like self-care for me, it's like, Oh,
- 4:14I love going and getting a special, this specialty coffee
- 4:18that I love to have from this little place that's down the
- 4:21road from the house. And I'll do that once a week.
- 4:24And I have it like it's part of my Saturday morning thing where
- 4:27I take my son to work and then I immediately go there and get
- 4:29one. And it just feels like, oh, it's
- 4:31such good self-care sitting there doing that.
- 4:34But that's convenient. The inconvenient ones are like,
- 4:37OK, I got a book, time to go get a massage or I've got a book a
- 4:41vacation away or I've got to do something.
- 4:43Those are not convenient and they're not easy.
- 4:46But see, that's the part. And that's the whole point of
- 4:49this. Doing the hard stuff actually
- 4:51makes it feel better. Like doing the coop, it's
- 4:54whopping it out. It's hard.
- 4:55It's not convenient to do it. It's a hard work and but I enjoy
- 4:58it because they have the feeling it gives me.
- 5:01So I know I'll enjoy the others. So I have to plan those.
- 5:04I have to put those on the schedule.
- 5:06And so I sat there, wrote it all out and said, OK, I'm doing
- 5:10that. I finished recording this, I'm
- 5:12going to go in and I'm starting this whole plan.
- 5:13I texted my friend and I said, hey, we have to work on planning
- 5:17our trip because we we talked about it, but we haven't planned
- 5:20it. So the question of the day is
- 5:23what are you doing for yourself care.
- 5:25That's, you know, oh, you really need to take care of yourself
- 5:28and do that. And it's not just the convenient
- 5:29stuff like clean sheet day. It's other stuff other the small
- 5:33self-care. Yeah, sure, every every chance
- 5:35you get. But the bigger self-care plan
- 5:37that too. I got to get on that.
- 5:39All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:41see you tomorrow. Bye.
