- Lucas: Luna, guess what. This is episode 200 of Learn Danish with Fexingo. Two hundred episodes. Luna: Two hundred! That's wild. I feel like we just started with 'hej' and 'tak.' Lucas: Exactly. And now look at you, ordering coffee, booking hotels, even handling an emergency. I'm so proud. Luna: Oh, that's so good. But today, I have a real, everyday mission. I need new shoes. Lucas: Perfect. Let's go to the shoe shop. In Danish, to tell the shop assistant you want to try something, you say 'Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko.' Luna: Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. Lucas: Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. It means 'I would like to try those shoes.' So first, you point at the shoes, then you ask. Luna: Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. Lucas: There you go. Now the shop assistant will ask you a very important question: 'Hvilken størrelse har du?' Luna: Hvilken størrelse har du? That means 'What size do you have?' Lucas: Yes. Hvilken størrelse har du? Let's say you're a 38. You just answer 'Jeg bruger 38.' Luna: Jeg bruger 38. Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. Lucas: Now you're in the chair, trying them on. If they feel good, you say 'De passer godt.' Luna: De passer godt. De passer godt. Lucas: De passer godt. It just means 'They fit well.' So try saying it like you mean it. Luna: De passer godt! Oh, these are comfortable. De passer godt. Lucas: Then the next question, of course, is 'Hvor meget koster de?' Luna: Hvor meget koster de? That's 'How much do they cost?' Lucas: Hvor meget koster de? And if the price is okay, you make the final decision: 'Jeg tager dem.' Luna: Jeg tager dem. I'll take them. Jeg tager dem. Lucas: Jeg tager dem. That's it. A whole shoe shopping conversation in five phrases. Let's run through them one more time, slowly. Lucas: Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. Luna: Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. Lucas: Hvilken størrelse har du? Luna: Hvilken størrelse har du? Lucas: De passer godt. Luna: De passer godt. Lucas: Hvor meget koster de? Luna: Hvor meget koster de? Lucas: Jeg tager dem. Luna: Jeg tager dem. And I really would take them if I had them here. Maybe I should go to a Danish shoe shop now. Lucas: Listen, you've been walking through Danish with me for 200 episodes now. If this little trip has helped you take a single step, the smallest step, then that's worth something. Luna: Yeah. If today's episode or any of them felt like a good pair of shoes, perfectly fitted, you can keep the podcast going at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: That's it. Just a small treat. It keeps everything ad-free and it means the world to us. Luna: And it's totally okay if you just keep the shoes instead. We just love to know you're listening. Lucas: Okay, so to finish, let's do one tiny scene. Luna, you walk into the shop. Go. Luna: Hej. Jeg vil gerne prøve de sko. Lucas: Hvilken størrelse har du? Luna: Jeg bruger 38.... De passer godt. Lucas: Hvor meget koster de? Luna: De koster 500 kroner. Lucas: And then Luna, no hesitation? Luna: Jeg tager dem. Yes, I would.
