- 0:00So I've done it. I've booked my entire trip.
- 0:04Oh. Excellent.
- 0:05So. Of the brothels of Thailand to
- 0:09Luke Alderson's story. Welcome to Multiple Nerdgasm
- 0:15with your hosts Matt, Luke and Dan Multiple Nerdgasm, your
- 0:22guide to all things nerdy. So in 2 1/2 weeks time on the
- 0:3431st of July I go to hospital, spend a week in hospital.
- 0:39Get it out of the way before you get to Thailand.
- 0:41Yeah, yeah. Pump, yeah.
- 0:45Pump full of of anti chlamydia anti VD.
- 0:51I didn't go from the airport, no, from the from the hospital
- 0:55to the airport on the 6th. Go straight out in a way out
- 0:59there. Yep, why not?
- 1:02And they've, they've bumped me up to business class, but they
- 1:04were very apologetic about it. They bumped me up like.
- 1:11I'm gonna have to have some leg room, yeah.
- 1:13We know you're really, really hanging to sit back there with
- 1:16the rest of the people like a. Month beforehand they've done
- 1:18it, which is I find weird. It's not like a last minute.
- 1:22Yes, once or twice I've been bumped at the gate, which is
- 1:24very. Very.
- 1:25You've never been bumped up to business class?
- 1:27The fuck? Why?
- 1:28Just how do you do this time? I haven't.
- 1:31It's if there's seats left in business class and a stewardess
- 1:34thinks you look like you might want one.
- 1:37I mean, I definitely want one. Do I?
- 1:39Do I not? If you look at, do I not look?
- 1:41Do I look like someone who doesn't want to go to the
- 1:43business class? Maybe you also have to look like
- 1:46someone who other business class passengers would want to be part
- 1:50of their. What what does that mean, Dan?
- 1:52Yeah. Excuse me, I actually still
- 1:54dressed nicely for flights. I wear a button shirt pants.
- 1:58Yeah, but your button shirts are a little different to the other
- 2:02business class. They're imagining something
- 2:04that's very inaccurate right now.
- 2:06Yeah, if you're if you're thinking of Patrick Bateman, you
- 2:09are wrong. You're wrong to think about
- 2:12Patrick Bateman in any context other than business cards.
- 2:15Yeah, they're going to get a shock when I rock up in business
- 2:17class. But then yeah.
- 2:19And then I just. Bum around.
- 2:21I'd like to do a Patrick, but you know, you know, the morning
- 2:23routine scene. Yes.
- 2:25In famous, I'd like to recreate that shot for shot.
- 2:29But at Luke's house with Luke. Yeah.
- 2:33Having a raw sausage for breakfast.
- 2:34Yeah, that's right. Yeah.
- 2:35There's nothing wrong with the occasional raw sausage.
- 2:38I can eat 6 now. But then, yeah, and then I'm
- 2:44just going to bum around Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand,
- 2:48literally for a couple of months.
- 2:51Very cool. Are you are you going to go to
- 2:53Japan or no? No, no.
- 2:55I just decided I'm just going to stay there.
- 2:57I've basically booked it all. I do a lot of tours and then
- 2:59I've just got one week in a resort to end on where I just do
- 3:04nothing. Yes.
- 3:05Wink wink. Yes.
- 3:07You lay in a pool noodle and when you want to drink, you just
- 3:10get slightly closer to the side of the pool.
- 3:12That's a bar and. I made yeah, but I've gone with.
- 3:16It's in Vietnam in results down there and I've made very clear
- 3:21it's it does have bar pool, pool bars, pools.
- 3:25Pools. Pools at the bars pool.
- 3:28Yeah. And that is the plan, just to
- 3:31hang around there, do that for a week.
- 3:33Oh, for $20.00 I can go up to the roof of the hotel and watch
- 3:38the sunset and they'll give me 6 beers.
- 3:42That's a bargain. Oh, do I?
- 3:46Do I have to watch the sunset? Yeah.
- 3:47Hold on and and don't drink. Them in the room.
- 3:50Do are you gonna? Drink them in my room.
- 3:52It's. $20.00 for six. Beers.
- 3:55Well, the thing. Is still a very, very good deal.
- 3:57Oh. No, that's expensive for beer
- 3:59over there in Vietnam. Oh, OK.
- 4:00Yeah, like, yeah. I now.
- 4:04OK, now I'm getting why Luke likes it there.
- 4:06Yeah, it's great. They make a lot of lager and
- 4:09it's cheap. They do, all the beer they make
- 4:11practically is lager and they make it old school.
- 4:16They don't charge very much for it.
- 4:17I like it too. I had AI was in Bali last week.
- 4:20Bali of all fucking places. But I was drinking.
- 4:24With all the other bogans. Mate, mate, they're so fucking
- 4:30Bogany it's ridiculous. It's ridiculous.
- 4:35That's funny they get there and just assume laws don't apply to
- 4:38them. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:42And I still love the people who will go overseas and go never
- 4:44ridden a bike in their life. But now's the time.
- 4:46I'm going to hire a motorbike or a scooter and bang.
- 4:49Around I looked into some of that stuff because we had talked
- 4:53about the three of us doing which I would like to do at some
- 4:55point. I'd still love.
- 4:56To do this sounds awesome. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:58I don't know about how feasible it is, but I think to do I.
- 5:01Think it'd be about 10 years. In 10 years.
- 5:04You wear that right off Matt's shirt.
- 5:06Yes. Oh, we'll, we'll be going for 10
- 5:10years, yes. Yeah, 10 years.
- 5:13In well, once we get arrested, didn't.
- 5:17Yes, yeah. Yeah, we don't intend to go.
- 5:20We'll be in a Thai present for 10 years.
- 5:22Yeah, I. Want to know what?
- 5:26Because obviously that's not murder.
- 5:27Murder's life anyway, even in Thailand, right?
- 5:29What's 10 years in Thai in a Thai jail?
- 5:32What have we done to get 10 years?
- 5:34One of us, I've got a little bit of pot.
- 5:38Yeah. All right.
- 5:39Yeah, no, don't they just hang? It there?
- 5:42What? Well, yeah, actually that could
- 5:44be longer depending on. Crime 10.
- 5:49Years jail. What is he asking?
- 5:55I'm asking my Thai friend. Chaji BT, Chaji B Thai.
- 6:02In Thailand, the sentence of 10 years imprisonment can be given
- 6:04for various crimes, but one notable is Laissez majeste.
- 6:11That sounds cool. Insulting the monarchy.
- 6:17Oh. There you go.
- 6:20Can we just close it with our monarchy?
- 6:22Well, no, because they're very You've been to Thailand like
- 6:25you. You would have seen it.
- 6:26It's just pictures of the king everywhere.
- 6:28Like, well, that's actually why. On the airport.
- 6:31Yeah, and you get there and there's a legal.
- 6:34To drop money on the ground because money has pictures of
- 6:38the king on it. I'm actually not spending that
- 6:41much time in Thailand, mainly because they're.
- 6:44Scared. What you think?
- 6:45Well, no, they're, they're a little bit more on a high alert
- 6:47type of thing. No, they're, they're a bit more
- 6:51because they'll go to smart traveler just to check like what
- 6:54is in the region and Thailand is up.
- 6:56You should be on a bit more of a high alert there.
- 6:59Sure. So yeah, right.
- 7:01That's why I'm just. I've had friends have some
- 7:04pretty dodgy experiences in Thailand.
- 7:06Several friends, actually. No, no, I'm sure Thailand's
- 7:09fine, but I mean, you've just been there in the different.
- 7:11Yeah, it's like a different yeah.
- 7:13RIP. Off culture I the first time
- 7:15I've been maybe a dozen times, but the first time I went I was
- 7:18petrified in Bangkok because like I got what I would consider
- 7:23if it happened in Australia. Kidnapped by a tuk.
- 7:26Tui would not. Tear me somewhere I wanted to
- 7:28go. He would just take me to his
- 7:30cousin's store and I. Didn't know what?
- 7:34That's what they all do. And then for a while I thought,
- 7:37fuck I, I love Thailand, I just hate Bangkok because I travelled
- 7:40around the rural places and it was wonderful.
- 7:43But I've since had really awesome trips to Bangkok as
- 7:45well. You've just got to be savvy and
- 7:47they can tell when you're not. Yeah, right.
- 7:49Yeah. Like I've been there once, got
- 7:51ripped off the first time and then you learn.
- 7:56I think everyone gets ripped off or something happens their first
- 7:58time because. If when you get into a tuk tuk
- 8:01or a cab or anything in in Bangkok and, and immediately say
- 8:04to the guy how much from here to X place, they will know you've
- 8:09been there before and they will not RIP you off and they will
- 8:12tell you how much it costs. If you just get in and go take
- 8:14me to this place and then tell me what it costs, they know
- 8:17you've never been there before. So.
- 8:19Fashion you more. They'll be taking you via their
- 8:21tailor friend. They'll be taking you past a
- 8:23jeweler friend. Yeah, you look Temple.
- 8:27And if they say yeah, yeah, I'm a girl make.
- 8:29Sure. Just check.
- 8:30Yeah, yeah. Why?
- 8:32Suck it around. Yeah.
- 8:40So I'm only going to spend 10 days there, but I'm going to
- 8:42spend a bit of time in Laos, in Cambodia.
- 8:45Laos so and they have a lovely local beer as well.
- 8:48I was. Going to say just, I'm, I'm, I'm
- 8:50obviously quite ignorant of the area, but when you say, oh,
- 8:52Thailand, it might be a bit dangerous, I'll go to Laos.
- 8:55That seems a bit weird to. Me also.
- 8:56It just it borders. It borders it's borders in.
- 8:59Cambodia. Yeah, for some reason, just my
- 9:02just my vague when you say last time I that's that's fucking
- 9:05dangerous place. With civil wars and stuff,
- 9:09there's there's also less chance that people are going to speak
- 9:14good English in Laos as opposed to in Thailand.
- 9:17That's why I'm going on a tour. Tour guide handle all of that
- 9:22and I'm asking for the. Consent.
- 9:24If you don't understand, I'll assume that's consent.
- 9:27No, in Laos, children can't consent, Sir.
- 9:38But yeah, I don't know what they do in Australia.
- 9:41Actually, I'm really looking forward.
- 9:43I'm really looking forward to Cambodia.
- 9:46Yeah. Checking that and also firing
- 9:48guns again. I like shooting guns.
- 9:50Yeah, yeah, all these sacred places entirely.
- 9:53Going to say my mind. I don't know, just in my head
- 9:57I'm going to be fired. I always say when.
- 9:58Did I fire guns? I fired.
- 10:00I fired guns just on an Indonesian island, a different
- 10:04one, not the other one I went to the other day.
- 10:06Top secret island? There's a lot of them, but I
- 10:10just can't remember which one. Firing guns in Ho Chi Minh, just
- 10:14in the where they put. The town in.
- 10:17The town just. Yeah, just remember that the
- 10:22last time Australians were firing guns.
- 10:24I was going. To say it was 1975, but it was
- 10:27just before we escaped my helicopter.
- 10:30It was during the American wall. Yes, that's right.
- 10:34You go to the American war over. Go to the.
- 10:36American War Museum. It's amazing.
- 10:38I've done it once and I want to do it again because it's just.
- 10:42Yeah, like crazy. Well, it's even.
- 10:43It's not even that. Good.
- 10:45Like seeing because they've had a terrible time there in
- 10:47Vietnam. Like it was the French first.
- 10:50Like there's just. Everything you've learned in
- 10:52reverse. Like that Vita was just being
- 10:56invaded and invaded and invaded over and over.
- 10:59And Luke's at it again. Like I found out they had a
- 11:03Statue of Liberty and the second they freed them and they were
- 11:07like we. Should get rid of that that.
- 11:09Is they tore that they tore that down.
- 11:12I didn't actually know there were three official statue of
- 11:15liberties Yeah, right. I knew that there was one.
- 11:18There's. One in Paris.
- 11:21Oh, I think the American one was made in Paris and then shipped
- 11:25to America, and that's why. I think there is one in Paris
- 11:27and. There's one in Tokyo as well,
- 11:29because I saw one in Tokyo and I thought, oh, that's just,
- 11:32they've made one. Yeah, just like casinos and
- 11:36stuff like, yeah, yeah, no, that's an actual one.
- 11:39Yeah, there's one in there is one in Paris there is.
- 11:41Yeah. America gave it to them.
- 11:43Oh, OK. Next to it's next to the same.
- 11:46Yeah, because I know that I actually did ship one from
- 11:50French to America, and that's the one you've got.
- 11:52You've got but you. Have both to everyday but I also
- 11:56know yeah you bow down to it don't you?
- 11:58I did it right before we jumped on, yeah.
- 12:00Yeah. She nods, face E back to you,
- 12:02and then yeah, yeah. 10 times a day, I know that.
- 12:08It's not E it's Mecca, but it's not New Jersey You face.
- 12:12New Jersey, you face. Jersey yeah, I mean E changes no
- 12:15matter where you are if if people, people.
- 12:19It's totally southwest from here, but yeah.
- 12:20Yeah, OK. The stamp, the famous Statue of
- 12:24Liberty stamp. The picture is not of the Statue
- 12:28of Liberty in America, it's of one of the others.
- 12:31Yeah. All right.
- 12:32OK. Pumped I.
- 12:37Don't know, if it was for various reasons, I'll never
- 12:41know. I'm such a scallywag.
- 12:46Guys are from the French. Stupid Americans and.
- 12:55Don't even know their old lady. Where's?
- 12:59This guy from. Why is he so in?
- 13:09How does this stand for you? OK, who is this?
- 13:17Now, last week I did promise I was going to see Jurassic Park,
- 13:23and I went and saw it. Oh.
- 13:26Oh my God, this is some of the worst special effects I have
- 13:31seen in such a long time. Really.
- 13:34Like really bad. What's going on lately?
- 13:37I don't know, they seem to have gone backwards and special, but
- 13:40this was worse than like anything recently.
- 13:43As a movie, was it as soulless as the first Jurassic World that
- 13:48I couldn't even make it to the end of?
- 13:49Oh, even worse. Yeah, it didn't look great from
- 13:52the trailer. The whole thing is about how
- 13:55like, the world has lost interest in these dinosaurs, but
- 13:58they're going to this island where they were creating hybrids
- 14:01and freaks and all this stuff, which makes still makes no sense
- 14:04to me. Yeah, the whole concept of
- 14:06people just getting bored of dinosaurs doesn't make any
- 14:08sense, people. Yeah, well, we get bored of the
- 14:10zoo. Yeah, you don't get bored of a
- 14:11chimp. Yeah, but they got bored of they
- 14:14got bored of Jurassic World. Like I don't.
- 14:16Get bored of my dog, just see him every day and I'm still like
- 14:22hey. But yeah, no, I just, I think
- 14:25one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time.
- 14:28But the special effects were just the worst part.
- 14:30Yeah, but I still think it could have been a different movie.
- 14:34I think it's just they got another script and mashed it
- 14:36with Jurassic Park. Right.
- 14:37Yeah, yeah. Because it seemed like the vibe
- 14:39of it from the trailer was very like Alien almost.
- 14:42Yeah, I could have seen it being a Predator movie, honestly.
- 14:45Yeah. Right.
- 14:46Maybe that would have been better.
- 14:47They're making pretty good Predator movies again.
- 14:49Yeah, apparently so, yeah. So yeah, I, I did read an
- 14:52article a little while ago about the visual effects stuff and
- 14:55about how I think this is in the context of the Disney stuff.
- 14:58At the time, people were like, why does the quantum mania look
- 15:02shit? And it was because they just
- 15:05spread too thin now because there's too many big budget
- 15:09highs, you know, CGI blockbusters and people are not,
- 15:12there's not enough people to work on them.
- 15:14Except perhaps for Oppenheimer, there's no longer such a thing
- 15:18as a movie without CGI everything.
- 15:20Like, even if you look at my movie, the tail Job, like so
- 15:24many scenes were digitally altered.
- 15:26Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's not a, that's not a
- 15:30genre movie. And it's not, you know, a box
- 15:32office, you know, blockbuster. It's.
- 15:35Just. A normal drama, but just with
- 15:38you. You got to do CGI.
- 15:40Well I remember going back to the Facebook movie where they
- 15:43had the CGI stuff onto a door and stuff like why just print a
- 15:47sign? Breath.
- 15:49Oh yeah, the breath. Yeah.
- 15:50They're making a sequel to that, as you know.
- 15:52Yes, because I guess he's in, he's in more lawsuits.
- 15:56Yeah, structurally the same, but.
- 15:59I think it's because it's the social network too.
- 16:01I was wondering is it going to be about something else like?
- 16:04Another social network, Yeah. OK.
- 16:07I mean, maybe like you, because you could.
- 16:09In theory, yeah. Is TikTok still a thing there?
- 16:12You could also make. It they keep delaying banning
- 16:15that. OK, Jesse Eisenberg could still
- 16:17play. Zuckerberg.
- 16:19Yeah, Zuckerberg because he's meant he's he's the the amount
- 16:23older that he's. Meant to be older, yeah.
- 16:25It's true, yeah. I did see two other movies this
- 16:29week I like. Him, man, I have a feeling
- 16:31they're movies I really want to see as well.
- 16:33I saw F1. OK, let's start of it.
- 16:37OK, I enjoyed it. I got a shock.
- 16:41I'd still. Do you like F1 now?
- 16:44No, the sport, not the. No, I'd still I don't have
- 16:47enough time to watch a weekend because that's something after
- 16:51the last. Day.
- 16:53No, for me, because it's I understand to get the full
- 16:56enjoyment, I think you need to watch like the qualifying in the
- 16:59Sprint and get that. This movie does not care about
- 17:03qualifying or sprints or anything like that.
- 17:06It's OK, It's the right. Racing, yeah.
- 17:09And and we could start last and finish in fifth, like don't
- 17:12worry about that. If you yeah, some people can.
- 17:15If you Max you can. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:17Yeah. But like every race, like that's
- 17:19where it's a bit unbelievable. Was like that.
- 17:21Sure, sure, they were like always up.
- 17:24But remember the Schwarzenegger movie, not Schwarzenegger
- 17:28Stallone. Rocky.
- 17:30He's 14 to teach the young. Driver Drive.
- 17:34Oh, it's exactly the same movie. Yeah, right.
- 17:37Like oh, mentor someone? Yep, they bring him out over
- 17:42well. He's not out of retirement.
- 17:43They bring him out. He's a driver for hire.
- 17:45They will him out throw. Him in, but I could see how they
- 17:50can make it work with the Daytona stuff.
- 17:52We've doing good Days of the Cross, right?
- 17:56OK, at the very, very, very subtled movie.
- 17:59So no spoiler. He is racing at Daytona.
- 18:04Oh, OK. As a driver for hire in like a
- 18:0624 hour race. Right, right, right.
- 18:09And so I think it would sort of makes more sense for him to be
- 18:14cross to go. They thought that Tom Cruise
- 18:17will be there. Yeah, Yeah.
- 18:20So that's why I think it could work.
- 18:22But no, it's I. Think.
- 18:23Looks good, it's enjoyable. I listen to Brad Pitt was just
- 18:30recently on Dan's favorite podcast to Your Expert and it
- 18:34was actually quite controversial.
- 18:36Apparently it is. I mean, understandably, it's
- 18:41controversial to be positive towards Brad Pitt in some
- 18:45circles because of things that have happened.
- 18:48So they got a lot of Flack for that, apparently.
- 18:50But I got to say, he's so fucking charming.
- 18:54Like, I'm like, I'm not even watching the video.
- 18:57I'm just listening to it. And I'm like, I want to be
- 18:59friends with this guy. Like, he's just cool.
- 19:04So yeah, frustratingly cool. And also, did you know that?
- 19:10Oh, actually, I don't know if they revealed this on the show,
- 19:12to be honest. Dax Shepard and Brad Pitt have
- 19:15known each other for a while now from Alcoholics Anonymous.
- 19:17Oh. Shit.
- 19:19Oh, and they so they talked about that at the start and I
- 19:21was like, oh, this is very. Light to be anonymous.
- 19:24They said they people get mad at them when they discuss it
- 19:27publicly because I. Guess you.
- 19:30Yeah. And then he's like, yeah, no,
- 19:33it's a they, they like there are some anecdotes and they do names
- 19:36in people, but they're like, to be clear, these people don't
- 19:38care. We've had I've had that person
- 19:41on this show also, and we've talked about it.
- 19:43So I'm not gonna out anybody. Yeah, yeah.
- 19:45Actually that was really interesting that he's very open
- 19:49about that stuff. And is he?
- 19:50Is he still sober? Yeah.
- 19:52Brad. Pitt yeah, right, yeah, so and
- 19:54quit nicotine products. He was a, he was a smoker for
- 19:57like 30 years or something and he was on a lot of.
- 20:00You know, like supplementary stuff when he quit and then,
- 20:05yeah, like he said, Oh, no, I don't do anything anymore.
- 20:07I'm off that too. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:10So, yeah. Interesting.
- 20:11Smoke again. Let's go hang out with Brad,
- 20:15too. Expensive.
- 20:16Too expensive, that's why. You'd be Brad.
- 20:18I did also see. Yeah, I.
- 20:20Did also see one unsmoked cigarettes lying around.
- 20:23Yeah, I saw what other movie I know you both want to see.
- 20:25I went and saw Superman. I, I enjoyed it.
- 20:32I think the music does let it down.
- 20:34I don't think it has that impact of John Williams.
- 20:38He does a version of the John Williams stuff.
- 20:40I know because it was in the trailer, but John Murphy's just
- 20:43got a very different style, so. I was listening like during the
- 20:48week at work, there was we got a television in the cafeteria and
- 20:50they were playing Superman during the midday movie or
- 20:53whatever, and still hearing that music.
- 20:55It's still, yeah, it still has that impact.
- 21:00Yeah. That's what was missing from
- 21:02this. But the thing that I'm very
- 21:03confused about is everyone saying this is very woke and all
- 21:08about immigrants and stuff and I'm.
- 21:09Well, no. So I mean, yes, well, he is an
- 21:13immigrant, but it's because James Gunn said it in an in an
- 21:16interview. So the the reviews are very
- 21:19positive. There's a lot of first reaction
- 21:22reviews been very positive. Yours sounds fairly positive.
- 21:24Yeah. But one person who was annoyed
- 21:27is Dean Cain, who also played Superman on television.
- 21:33And he is. He's bothered apparently, by the
- 21:37fact that James Gunn, in an interview just a couple days
- 21:39ago, said it's Superman is the story of America, an immigrant
- 21:44that came from other places and populated the country.
- 21:48But for me, it's mostly a story that says basic human kindness
- 21:51is a value and is something we have lost, Right?
- 21:54That sounds fine to me. I think he doesn't like that.
- 21:57Pretty non controversial but just clear.
- 22:00Did Dean Kane watch the movie when he said that or is that
- 22:03just in? I have a feeling and out of let
- 22:06me. Next quote.
- 22:07Let me read you what Dean Kane said and you tell me when this
- 22:09gets a bit weird. How work is Hollywood gonna make
- 22:13this character? I'm gonna skip this first
- 22:15paragraph because it But for Superman, it was truth, Justice,
- 22:18and the American way. Well, they dropped that.
- 22:21They came up with Truth, Justice, and A Better tomorrow,
- 22:24changing beloved characters to. Drop that, but OK.
- 22:27Changing beloved characters I don't think is a great idea.
- 22:29If you want to create a new character, go ahead and do that.
- 22:32I wouldn't say changing the fucking.
- 22:34Yeah, creating a new character. It's, it's the same character.
- 22:37It's just, it's what people say about him.
- 22:39No, they don't mention the country.
- 22:41Yeah, yeah. Superman's always stood for
- 22:44truth, justice in the American way.
- 22:45And the American way is immigrant friendly, tremendously
- 22:48immigrant friendly. But there are rules.
- 22:52You can't come in. This is this is still dinking.
- 22:55It's a dinking, yeah. You can't come in saying I want
- 22:59to get rid of all the rules in America because I want it to be
- 23:01more like Somalia. Well, that doesn't work.
- 23:06That doesn't work because you had to leave Somalia to come
- 23:08here. I have a lot of on that one.
- 23:12Somali person hurt you, Dean Cain.
- 23:14I happy sneak a lot of these. Anyone will do?
- 23:18A lot of the reviews I've seen where they're calling out being
- 23:21woke, I guarantee you they have not seen the movie.
- 23:24They're going off what they've heard.
- 23:27Because I felt is this bit of a rant about how we got this.
- 23:31We can't have everybody, society will fail, so there have to be
- 23:35limits. And then he says, anyway, I hope
- 23:39Superman's successful, but I don't like that political stuff.
- 23:43Oh, don't you? Sorry, don't you?
- 23:51Fucking hell. Amazing.
- 23:53No, I'll say, I'll say this. I'll still watch him.
- 23:56I thought he was a pretty decent Superman and a very charming
- 23:59Clark Kent. I learned this week originally
- 24:02that when that the pilot was written, the show was called
- 24:05Lois Lane or The Adventures of Lois Lane or something like
- 24:08that. And the studio were like, no,
- 24:10it's like you've got to mention Clark and you've got to also
- 24:14mention Superman. So work it out.
- 24:18But we're not just calling it Lois Lane.
- 24:21Yeah, I don't think that would have had quite the same impact.
- 24:24I think now you people would go for that. 100% yeah.
- 24:27Now you'd be like, you're calling it Lois Lane and she's
- 24:33an immigrant. Okay.
- 24:36They're all immigrants. She's trans.
- 24:38Yep. But yeah, I think they say.
- 24:41Goes without saying. The word immigrant is said like
- 24:45maybe twice in the entire thing, but it's not a it's talking
- 24:48about Superman. He is.
- 24:50That's what I'm saying. I don't understand why he's not
- 24:52making him political. He's always, he's a fucking
- 24:56alien. Politically charged.
- 24:57Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:58And he's here illegally. Yes, he.
- 25:01Crashed in his spaceship. He didn't get a visa.
- 25:03Dean Cain. Yeah.
- 25:06To find out who else doesn't have a visa, go to the after
- 25:09party. After.
- 25:10This and. I've got some oh oh oh.
- 25:12I've got some visa refusal news to report on.
- 25:15Oh, oh, I just saw what it is. I'm very excited by this.
- 25:20But I don't want to derail this back-to-back to Superman.
- 25:23When they say immigrant, is it him saying, I mean, I'm just a
- 25:26lowly immigrant? Or is it someone saying get back
- 25:29to where he came from? Like what's the context?
- 25:31Yeah. Isa dragging Superman into a
- 25:33van. It's like.
- 25:37Yeah, it does get a lot a little bit like that.
- 25:40But I will say like they turn on Superman because of oh, Luther
- 25:47sure, because his whole hatred for Superman trying to get rid
- 25:50of like that plays a bait pass in this.
- 25:52Yeah, but his point is he's not even human, right?
- 25:56Yeah. It's not that he doesn't have a
- 25:57proper working JV. Right.
- 26:00Yeah. Basically worried about meta
- 26:02humans taking over and ruling the world.
- 26:04Yeah, sure. I mean, that's another argument
- 26:06entirely. If Dean Cain was like, look, you
- 26:09guys are downplaying the human thing, but you really, we've got
- 26:12to take it seriously. I'd.
- 26:13Have more respect for him than just.
- 26:15Have you seen the powers these Mexicans?
- 26:17Have. Superheroes.
- 26:23I'm Superman now. But definitely go see it.
- 26:36I will say that the post credit post credit scenes are crap.
- 26:42Yeah. That that I really thought it'd
- 26:45be setting something up. I think they purposely didn't
- 26:49because we were expecting that. Yeah.
- 26:52I don't know why they I don't know why letting us down is
- 26:54their plan A but. Yeah, Jason, I know why.
- 26:59Though I know why they didn't set something up.
- 27:01They don't know what. They're doing this is a pass or
- 27:03fail. Yeah, yeah, right.
- 27:05If this goes tits up, there's nothing else.
- 27:08And whatever's good at whatever people do like about this will
- 27:11be the next movie. Yeah, but yes, well, I think
- 27:14Jake has come out and said that like all the other movies are
- 27:17going to be all different in tone.
- 27:20Right. So there's going to be sort of
- 27:23more serious ones, more funnier ones, like just depending on the
- 27:26characters he's playing with at the time.
- 27:29Green Yeah. It'll just be pure horror.
- 27:32Nathan Fillion. Yeah.
- 27:34Yeah, yeah. How is Nathan Fillion?
- 27:35How is he, you know? Is he good?
- 27:37I, I, I enjoyed Nathan Fillion with with every dot.
- 27:39So yes, he was good. OK, Yeah.
- 27:42I mean, he looks pretty over. The top it looks.
- 27:44Weird. Does it fit in the movie?
- 27:46Yes, yeah, he's very arrogant. He's very much I should be the
- 27:51hero type of person. Right.
- 27:53Yeah, right. All right.
- 27:55With the Justice Gang, the. Justice Gang.
- 27:59Justice Gang. Is Martian Manhunter part of the
- 28:01Justice game? No, so I mean Mrs. Terrific.
- 28:06It was my favorite but I hardly ever use him.
- 28:08Oh OK. I don't mind Hawk girl.
- 28:10Who plays hawk girl? Someone good?
- 28:12Someone from another James Gunn movie guarantee it.
- 28:14Yeah, be one of his friends. I don't know.
- 28:17I didn't go see who she who she was because she wears a mask for
- 28:20most of it. So.
- 28:20I mean, there's a disc by the way, if I was, if I was a you,
- 28:24you'd all be in my stuff all the time and.
- 28:26Yeah, and I, I trust him as well.
- 28:30Like, in the same way that I'm I'm fine with JJ Abrams putting
- 28:32his friends in his movies. Yeah, yeah, because it'll be a
- 28:36good movie anyway. He's put, he's put Nathan Philly
- 28:38in stuff since he's very first director credit.
- 28:40Yeah. Slew that Why does Hawk Girl in
- 28:43Superman looks so familiar? Isabella Merced, Merced, Merced.
- 28:55That hot girl. No Isabella, my said got auto
- 28:59completed. Who is?
- 29:05Oh, she was Dora. Dora.
- 29:08What she was Dora in the live action Dora.
- 29:11Oh, that's weird. Nice.
- 29:15Oh, and also, Oh no. Andy and Robbie, well, not
- 29:17weird, I just mean weird because like, yeah, OK, I'm.
- 29:20I've I remember that movie and that was a child.
- 29:23And this is not a child, no. Only Robbie was mad.
- 29:25People grow. Again with you Let it go.
- 29:35She's also in one of the Sicario sequels and.
- 29:38I don't. Oh, really?
- 29:38I've. Seen this one because I thought
- 29:41the sequel was called something else.
- 29:47Oh no. Maybe not.
- 29:54But look, she was fine in it. Yeah, I'm going.
- 29:56To see it OK, it was this OK it was only.
- 29:59One, it's just the first Superman movie I've liked in a
- 30:01while. Yeah, right.
- 30:03OK, yeah, I stand by the 1st I. Mean the buzz.
- 30:08Two half to 2/3 Batman V Superman.
- 30:12That movie could have ended like 30 times.
- 30:15Yeah, just kept going start. Is is really quite good?
- 30:19Brooding Batman? Angry Superman.
- 30:23Such a shame because I still say Bat Flick could have been
- 30:25awesome. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:27But he he, he wasn't. And the one of the best Alfreds
- 30:32as well, fucking Jeremy Lyons. Yeah.
- 30:35This is also one of the there's another sort of people who are
- 30:38upset with the Superman, James Gunn Superman.
- 30:40It's the Zack Snyder fans as well.
- 30:42Sure, of course they are right. OK.
- 30:44They're thinking exactly what's all this coloured Hurts my eyes,
- 30:47yeah. Superheroes are our gods.
- 30:55Why isn't everyone scared of him?
- 30:57There's been going down before him.
- 30:59I got into a superhero this week.
- 31:00It's an older superhero. Older like that even than
- 31:05Batman, I think. Yeah.
- 31:07I know what you had a look at, yes.
- 31:09So I, yeah, I put, I put a little, little teaser in under,
- 31:14it's actually under books because I'm actually reading
- 31:17about this superhero. And then from there, got I, it
- 31:21came up because I, you know, I don't even remember, but I found
- 31:27a website where you can read all of the old the Shadow pulp
- 31:33novels. You can.
- 31:34They're just available because they're so old.
- 31:36Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 31:37And so I'm reading the first one.
- 31:39It's fucking great. Awesome, yeah.
- 31:42So from there, so the shadow is like he he's a a superhero
- 31:47basically. He like predates Batman, as far
- 31:48as I'm aware. He's kind of like and he
- 31:50basically in he's different in every incarnation.
- 31:53Started in the 30s as a radio show because I think Detective
- 31:57Comics I think did like a radio show spin off.
- 32:01And they wanted a character who I think began, he began as the
- 32:04narrator, but then they started to make stories about him.
- 32:07And I just want to play a couple of clips of that because first
- 32:12of all, he's fucking excellent. But I want to know, can you tell
- 32:17either of you, Dan, in particular, do you recognize
- 32:20this voice? Who knows what evil lurks in the
- 32:30hearts of men? The shadow knows.
- 32:40Do you know who that is? I think I do, Luke.
- 32:43Do you know who it is? No, I.
- 32:45Guess I've got another. Voice do you want to try I got
- 32:47another one for you I got another one for you this one
- 32:50this clip is just this is what the show is like and This is why
- 32:52I think it's great I think this. Oh, the shadow who's?
- 32:56That I am the shadow stop we haven't much time I.
- 33:02Know the voice. I can't hurry, Gordon.
- 33:05You're in the death House, charged with murder.
- 33:08Yes, I'm innocent, I'm innocent, but nobody knows.
- 33:12It say courage Gordon. The shadow knows.
- 33:24I know who my shadow is. It's someone who really likes
- 33:27French champagne. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:31Does that give you a clue? And farm crisp farm fresh peas
- 33:35with crisp crunch pudding. Does that help?
- 33:43Oh, I yes, I know who it. Is you've lost the name,
- 33:46haven't. You.
- 33:46I've lost the name. I know who it is.
- 33:48I know exactly who it is, though.
- 33:49It's. It's Mr. Mawson Wells, yes.
- 33:51Yes, yeah, there's Shark. So Orson Welles.
- 33:55In here, I thought you're talking about Alec Baldwin.
- 33:58So. I fucking love that movie.
- 34:00I am talking about Alec Baldwin as well.
- 34:01Because yes, what happened is I got into this stuff and then I
- 34:04was like, Oh yeah, there's a movie.
- 34:07So I watched the movie because I was like, I remember that being
- 34:11universally panned. There's a good reason for that.
- 34:14It's very bad. It's a very bad movie.
- 34:16Yeah, it's got. But it's a shame because it it
- 34:20is very bad still. But I think and I, I did build
- 34:24cursory research. I think if you're familiar with
- 34:26the other stuff like I've begun gotten familiar with it's, it
- 34:30actually is better because it does very specific things that
- 34:35if you don't know what it why it's that it's like that you it
- 34:39doesn't make any sense. Like for example, so the shadow
- 34:44in in in the the book I'm reading, he's fighting like
- 34:47normal criminals. But in the movie, for some
- 34:49reason I don't like, I would never I wouldn't do this.
- 34:53It's it's Shiwan Khan, the last descendant of Genghis Khan,
- 34:57which Genghis Khan makes no sense because yeah, there's
- 35:01like. Half thousand of the descent
- 35:03that's. Right.
- 35:03Now there's only one person. Yeah, there's like he's very
- 35:08famous for fucking half of the world and producing DNA.
- 35:12Yeah, so. So that made me laugh.
- 35:15But that's who. Anywhere in northern China.
- 35:18You're you're a descendant of Genghis.
- 35:19Khan, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 35:21And you fight the Shadow on a daily basis.
- 35:23But. But for some reason they they
- 35:26went with that storyline and he comes to New York and it's
- 35:32convoluted. We don't have to get into it.
- 35:34But that that alone I was just like, that's I prefer it being a
- 35:38smaller scale thing of the shadow fighting crime in in New
- 35:41York. Yeah, that's what that's what
- 35:44they should have done, I think. But then I.
- 35:46I just got to bookmark this movie.
- 35:47Well, I I got to watch this again.
- 35:50Everything you say, the thing you are saying bad about it is
- 35:52making me want to watch. No, no, no.
- 35:54It I enjoyed it, but it's not good.
- 35:57It's got OK, let me give you running through it, OK?
- 35:58Alec Baldwin is in it. He's fucking great.
- 36:00Tim Curry's in it, he's fucking great.
- 36:02Ian McCullum is in it. He's fucking great.
- 36:05Like it it just. The only thing I can remember is
- 36:08he shoots a bullet out of the air.
- 36:11Well, not quite, but they do shoot at each other in the
- 36:14bullet skit, and they actually are both surprised by that.
- 36:16That's what I'm saying. This movie's actually mostly a
- 36:19comedy, which I think is lost as well because the tone is is
- 36:22weird, but there's a bit where it was the 90s.
- 36:25They didn't know how to make comic book movies, yet they'd.
- 36:29Only make? That's exactly yeah.
- 36:32Or. Make it like the crow.
- 36:34Actually. Tim Burton's back, I think Dick
- 36:36Tracy. They were like, Oh yeah, So
- 36:38this. Yeah.
- 36:40There's a scene where Shivan Khan goes into the the Sanctum,
- 36:44which is he just shows up at the Sanctum, which is the shadows
- 36:47like Bat Cave. And they're talking and he tells
- 36:50him, I want you to join me and take over the world.
- 36:53And the shadow's like, I'm not going to do that.
- 36:56And then he stops. And then the Shivan goes, by the
- 36:58way, I love your tie. Where did you get it from?
- 37:01And he's like, oh, it's from Brooks Brothers.
- 37:02Is that Midtown, 45th and Madison?
- 37:05And I was like, what is happening?
- 37:07And I was like, it's so strange. Nothing you were saying is
- 37:11talking me out. Of because it's because that's
- 37:13how the radio show was with all the product placement.
- 37:16And I'm like, OK, but I didn't. You have to know that that.
- 37:20Is. Even I was like, yeah, even I
- 37:23was kind of getting into it and I still was like, the fuck are
- 37:25they doing? How many people in 1994 do they
- 37:28reckon were still aficionados of 1930s radio dramas?
- 37:32Yes, it's very funny. And then there's there's a
- 37:38sequence in it. It's one of those movies where
- 37:40you, when you, if you should watch it just for fun and you'll
- 37:44be you. I think you'll think the same
- 37:45thing is like, what was this supposed to be?
- 37:47And what did he get edited into later?
- 37:49Because there's a sequence where he leaves his house and he says
- 37:54to here's a taxi driver who drives him around everywhere.
- 37:56It's like one of his agents, the shadows agents.
- 37:58He has agents everywhere. It's great.
- 38:00There's a really great scene where and it's lifted from the
- 38:03first book where he rescues somebody on a bridge and then he
- 38:08says now you work for me. You're one of my agents kind of
- 38:11thing. It's cool.
- 38:13And so anyway he gets in the taxi that says take me to the
- 38:16sanctum, right. So he's going to the sanctum and
- 38:19then a Mongol warrior, 1 of Shuan's warriors dressed in as a
- 38:25fucking Mongol warrior in armour is in a taxi and they and says.
- 38:30Follow him. So he follows him with taxi,
- 38:33right? And then so he's following the
- 38:36shadow they get, they pull up, he gets out of the cab.
- 38:40The guy, you see the Mongol warrior get out behind him and
- 38:43then he's walking along. He looks and he sees in a car
- 38:46rearview mirror that he's being followed, right?
- 38:49So he ducks into an alleyway and becomes a shadow because he can
- 38:53do that in the movie. The the guy comes in, where did
- 38:58he go? Starts walking faster around the
- 39:00corner into Chinatown right so then the shadow starts following
- 39:04him and then the kabonga warrior goes into a a restaurant and
- 39:09then the shadow follows him in and it's Khan's lair and I was
- 39:12like wait what the fuck how did we get wait how did that happen
- 39:17yeah like was that in the script or did you guys just like oh we
- 39:20could probably edit this and it'll be fine like that doesn't
- 39:23make any sense we've. Got to see him walking in a door
- 39:25and then we can cut to this. Yeah, Wow.
- 39:28Yeah, stuff like that where I'm just like, that's bizarre that
- 39:31kind of been written that way, which doesn't make any sense.
- 39:33Where there's a vacant lot and it's only because everyone's
- 39:37been hypnotized not to see the building.
- 39:39Yes, I remember sitting in the theater going.
- 39:42That's fucking cool, yes. He did it.
- 39:45I can't believe he did it. I saw that with my dad at the
- 39:50Hayden Multiplex in Yeah. And I just remember sitting
- 39:54there going, this is the best movie I've ever seen.
- 39:56And I didn't know about the radio show or awesome or
- 39:59anything at that point. I just, to my 14 or 13 year old
- 40:02brain, everything in that movie was just fucking amazing.
- 40:05And like when the lights came back into the end, my dad was
- 40:07like, well that was fucking garbage.
- 40:10What did we just? See the same movie.
- 40:13It's just so weird, like tone wise, That's the problem, I
- 40:16think. Is it because it some, you can
- 40:18tell somebody wanted it to be fucking really dark and Tim
- 40:20Burton, Batman, somebody else was like, this is going to be
- 40:23funny, this is going to be really funny.
- 40:24And then it's just like, it's just a mess.
- 40:27You should watch Billy Zane's The Phantom next and just take
- 40:31all of. Those it popped up in my
- 40:32recommendations after I watched this Yeah I.
- 40:35Just remember, is it who? Who is, Who's the woman in it?
- 40:38It's Elaine or one of It's one of those 90s.
- 40:43Yes, I remember she's in a. Very, very sheer dress at the
- 40:46end and I was like, oh this is also I'm enjoying this.
- 40:49Yeah, that is, that is true. It is Penelope Ann Miller.
- 40:54Penelope Ann Miller, Yeah, one of those people who was in like
- 40:57a few really popular movies in a row in the 90s.
- 41:01But see her her character is really fucking annoying parts
- 41:06because she just talks constantly, like talks about
- 41:07what's happening and she's like, oh, it's following me, Oh, help
- 41:100, they're coming after me. And it's like she was clearly
- 41:13told to do that. Like it's not so right.
- 41:15It's just the the tone of this is just weird.
- 41:17But it's like another throwback into the rodeo.
- 41:19Drop. That's what I mean.
- 41:20Yeah, exactly. Yeah, of course.
- 41:23Yeah, I think you have to bear that in mind as you watch it.
- 41:26Yeah. But anyway, yeah, like I I
- 41:28enjoyed it on a certain level, but it's not it's not good.
- 41:31I can see why it didn't go anywhere.
- 41:33Yeah, like it's, it's very, it's like a weird artifact of.
- 41:37Those shadow universe. Mate, I still just in terms of
- 41:40superhero movies from that era. I will stand by Rocketeer until
- 41:43the day I die. Yes, yeah, Rocketeer is fucking.
- 41:47There's nothing not amazing about The Rocketeer and I won't
- 41:49have. I've got to watch it.
- 41:50Watch it again and tell me. I'm not.
- 41:54I feel like I've been banned from watching Nazi movies
- 41:56though. So Oh, it's Timothy Dalton.
- 41:59This one's OK because the Nazis are the baddies, Matt so.
- 42:02Yes, it'll be a sort of. Reinitigation, unlike Indiana
- 42:05Jones. I'm just saying the movies that
- 42:07you seem to love. Or oh, you mean like, yeah, man
- 42:09in the High Castle? You sitting there watching
- 42:11Triumph for the wheel on a weekend.
- 42:13I always I only watched the first season of Man in the High
- 42:17Castle and then I turn it off. You just get too bored.
- 42:19Yeah, when you're still on top, as soon as yeah, happy ending.
- 42:22They failed to kill Hitler. All the the rebels get arrested.
- 42:26Happy ending. And the the fucking beheading at
- 42:32the end of season 2 or 3 of that series was like blindsided me as
- 42:36much as the beheading at the end of season 1 of Game of Thrones.
- 42:40I was like, how's he going to get out of this?
- 42:42Oh, they've cut off his head. How's he going to get out of
- 42:45that? I've written themselves.
- 42:48In the corner here, there's another movie from roughly this
- 42:54era that's being remade. And I actually do think, I mean,
- 42:59I'm sure this is fucking garbage, but I do think the
- 43:01trailer for Red Sonia is is I, I will, I will see this.
- 43:07Yeah, I was, Yeah. Let's say people have been
- 43:09saying this looks like a movie from the 90s.
- 43:11And yeah. Exactly.
- 43:13If that's what you're going for, I'm all in, right?
- 43:17I mean, it's not just the just the fact that it's because Red
- 43:21Sonia is about tits, mostly tits and violence.
- 43:26Like, let's be honest, so is Conan Conan's about muscles Joke
- 43:29about that. There's a.
- 43:30That's what I mean. Anyone hasn't seen this trailer?
- 43:32She's at an armourer and he pulls up this fucking chainmail
- 43:35bikini and she's like, what's that gonna protect his eye?
- 43:37Nothing but the crowd. 'S gonna love it.
- 43:40And it's like we will. We will love it, yeah.
- 43:44And I've read the comic and that's that might even be bigger
- 43:46than the one she wears in the comic.
- 43:48Yeah, yeah. So I was just surprised that
- 43:51they just did it like that's what read Sonia is.
- 43:55So just remind me, when Schwarzenegger did read Sonia,
- 43:58did you think he was playing Conan again?
- 44:02Or did they think they could have the rights to it and then
- 44:04lost the rights and then? Talks about this in his in the
- 44:09biography and I don't remember but I think it is a case that
- 44:12they someone's. Called me.
- 44:16What's going on? Because we can pause.
- 44:21Yes. Anya, no, I think someone was
- 44:22calling my dog on me at the time.
- 44:27I do recall he said something about they, they did not have
- 44:31the rights, but they were. So they, he, they, she, he was.
- 44:35They had to be very careful about the way they talked about
- 44:39it in the film, kind of. Quickly, it was Conan.
- 44:42Yeah, you know what it is, Conan.
- 44:43And they got. Conan.
- 44:44They get to play him. Yeah.
- 44:45But they said, yeah, we can't do that.
- 44:47So call you Dave. Yeah.
- 44:49Yeah, they I. Forget the specifics, there's
- 44:53some. Yeah, he did talk about that.
- 44:54But it we can't talk about Red Sonia without mentioning what
- 45:00you've put in here. It's just that the word Sonia we
- 45:03know as somebody who we know uses that word to just describe
- 45:09women with, But there's this big.
- 45:13Not nice, just big. Just big, yeah.
- 45:15He's not interested. In the just.
- 45:18The size. It's like zooming into the the
- 45:21lead character and then you just they've looped in somebody gone
- 45:24Sonia like because that's her name.
- 45:29But but I just it ruins. It Yeah.
- 45:33Because now I just think it's. Something I'm walking by the.
- 45:36Back I'm fucking. You.
- 45:41Yeah. Well, I, I probably will go
- 45:43watch this because I remember growing up watching this same.
- 45:47Yeah, like this was. No, look, this trailer looks
- 45:51pretty great. I got to say, I'm surprised.
- 45:53The first Conan movie, it's just like a legitimately good movie.
- 45:57Like it's just a great movie, the script.
- 46:00But John Willis is amazing. The second one is not, but I
- 46:03like it just as much because when I saw it as a kid, it was
- 46:06just fantastic. And I know people still fantasy
- 46:09that will argue that's the better of the two, right?
- 46:12I can't argue with them because that's the one you like better,
- 46:15That's the one you like better. But Reg Saundra, when I was a
- 46:18kid, as far as I'm concerned, that was just #3 yes.
- 46:22Yes, yeah, yeah. It's weird to know that it's
- 46:25actually not technically, because it just is like, yeah,
- 46:29everybody knew, everybody knows. And like, we were watching this
- 46:31when we're probably younger than 10, these were games we would
- 46:35watch. Yeah, I'm watching Conan and
- 46:38because, well, and because particularly Conan has got tits
- 46:41in it. Yep.
- 46:42Like those were, I think, yeah, yeah.
- 46:47So those kind of movies. Yes.
- 46:51Great boobs in your movie. We we'd probably watch it again
- 46:55even if we didn't like it. The first the first tits you see
- 46:58in that movie is when Conan's just won his first gladiator
- 47:03fight. And so they bring in a.
- 47:05Girl as a prize, but to show that he's like, sensitive, he
- 47:08like covers her with a blanket before he rains her In the 80s,
- 47:16that's all he had to do. You're the hero.
- 47:19Oh, what a nice guy. I mean, she is.
- 47:24Shaking with fear? Yeah.
- 47:27Yeah, because he's like a barbarian.
- 47:29Yes, the premise. Is like thrown to him as a yeah,
- 47:32yeah, yeah. The next the next woman he
- 47:35sleeps with is a witch trying to trick him.
- 47:37You. Know.
- 47:37Yes, that's right. Nude into the fire again in the.
- 47:44Age. Don't watch this movie again,
- 47:46it's been a while. Great, I watch it.
- 47:48All the time. Another trailer Jones.
- 47:52We didn't talk about this on the show, I don't think.
- 47:53Another trailer is out, and it's for Project Hail Mary, which is
- 47:58one of my favorite books of the last fucking 20 years, to be
- 48:01honest. It's a fucking great book.
- 48:03Until I read dance book, obviously.
- 48:05Well, yeah, but I remember when you, when you said to me, drop
- 48:11everything in real, read Project Hail Mary.
- 48:13Do not go on the Internet first. Yes.
- 48:16Just read the book and the it's exactly that.
- 48:20And I know we've talked about whether or not spoilers spoil
- 48:23things. It would fucking spoil this.
- 48:25Yeah, I so this trailer, so first of all, the the trailer's
- 48:28broken all records for trailer views, which is very interesting
- 48:32because I did think when they said they were making this, I
- 48:34thought I spit niche, but yeah, probably not.
- 48:37Too, Well, I guess the Martian was big and that's.
- 48:40Based on Sandy, yes. Ryan Paul saying he's the guy in
- 48:43the Hollywood I. Guess I forget how popular he.
- 48:47Is and I think it so the trailer, if you're listening to
- 48:51this and you haven't watched it, I think consider whether you
- 48:54want to. It does have what I think is
- 48:57kind of a shame. It's a spoiler, but it's not
- 49:01like a it's not, you know, there's a lot that happens in
- 49:04it. It, it's kind of a mystery, kind
- 49:07of you figure out what's going on as you as you learn the
- 49:09story, right. So there's quite a few things
- 49:11that they could spoil. They spoil like it's.
- 49:13Almost 2 mysteries because there's two plots.
- 49:17Exactly. Yeah, 'cause it's yeah, you see.
- 49:19Converging with one another, yeah.
- 49:20Yeah, you learn about what happened as you see what's
- 49:23happening here kind of thing and the whole.
- 49:25Time you're going How did it get to this?
- 49:28Yes, right. And so the trailer has a pretty
- 49:31big spoiler in it. But then I was like, well, I
- 49:34guess I can understand why, because it is a fundamentally
- 49:38important aspect of what the movie is.
- 49:40And if you. Yeah.
- 49:43Didn't tell people that. It might be, they might, I don't
- 49:46know. It's just like, I think the
- 49:48studio was like, we want to make sure people understand what this
- 49:51is. Because when you read the book,
- 49:53I didn't care. I got to that point and I was
- 49:55like, oh, because they're right and they're good.
- 49:58Because The thing is, if you hadn't read the book and you saw
- 50:05this trailer, you don't know you've been given a spoiler.
- 50:09Right. So.
- 50:11Yeah, that's a weird 1. Penny Arcade made a strip about
- 50:13it. Where?
- 50:14Yeah, yeah, yeah. Where do they?
- 50:16Still make strips. I am behind that.
- 50:19I think in the strip, Gabe has read the book and and Jerry
- 50:22hasn't or something. One of them hasn't.
- 50:24And then they're like, oh, there's a new trailer, let's
- 50:26watch it. And then it gets to halfway
- 50:27through the trailer and he's like, Oh my God, cover your
- 50:29eyes. Cover your eyes, right?
- 50:31Yeah, yeah. And that's OK.
- 50:33So it's not just me that thinks it's a new.
- 50:36Audiobook but I need have to get around to listening to
- 50:38audiobook. Is great, yeah.
- 50:41Yeah, that's how I. Consume this yes.
- 50:43Yeah, I it's, it's honestly the audiobook.
- 50:46I would be trying to do stuff and have the audiobook on and
- 50:48I'd be just standing there going.
- 50:50Yes, yeah. Like, it's amazing.
- 50:53Yeah. Yeah.
- 50:55It's his best book for sure. And like I said, possibly one of
- 50:59the best, one of my favorite books.
- 51:01Ever and certainly one of the best science fiction in the like
- 51:07man exploring space sub genre of.
- 51:10Science, Yep, because and it's got it's got a mystery and you
- 51:14it's just it's. Also incredibly detailed on the
- 51:20science end of it, because that's his thing and that's what
- 51:22he does. So I'm really excited about this
- 51:27movie. I have told Jenna not to watch
- 51:30the trailer and she was like, I wasn't going to anyway.
- 51:31I'm like, because I would like I was.
- 51:35I said, like I said, I understand why they want to make
- 51:38sure people know what it is. They want to attract people to
- 51:40go see. It makes sense that that that is
- 51:43a draw if they, if you know about that, I'm sure so.
- 51:48Just show Roy Goldwyn would make sense off.
- 51:50But I'm going to make her see it anyway, so it doesn't really
- 51:53matter. Well, if she likes, do you?
- 51:54Think they'll change the ending from the book?
- 51:56And I don't mean the ending to the like I don't.
- 51:58Mean no, no I don't. Mean.
- 52:00Yeah. You mean?
- 52:00Yeah. Because that was risky.
- 52:03Even in the book. I was like, oh, you went there,
- 52:05did you? Yeah, yeah.
- 52:07I don't know. Literally.
- 52:09But we'll see, yeah. Yeah.
- 52:13It looks pretty good. Looks pretty much exactly how I
- 52:15imagined it would be, really. It looks incredible.
- 52:18Yeah, yeah. Looks really, really good.
- 52:21You know what? There's another trailer out this
- 52:22week we haven't talked about. Did you guys watch Edgar
- 52:25Wright's The Running Man? Oh yes, oh, I did.
- 52:27Yes, for a while I haven't been looking forward to this because
- 52:32I've been. Yeah.
- 52:34Yeah, because I'm used to. Unfortunately, it's the running
- 52:37man, and I enjoyed that growing up.
- 52:39And when I know it's going back to the original, I've got Yeah.
- 52:42No, this looks great. Yes, and, and they've done the,
- 52:45which I assume now in hindsight that they did for budgetary
- 52:48reasons. But in the film, the Running Man
- 52:52runs like in a maze in a studio, whereas in the book he he's just
- 52:56in the streets, you know? He's an adaptation of the books.
- 52:59Yeah. So I think it's a lot better
- 53:02that he can go anywhere. But people are watching him on
- 53:05TV, so they're going to, they're going to know where he is.
- 53:08Yeah, Yep, yeah. It'll be interesting to see if
- 53:11Glenn Powell can carry a movie as the star.
- 53:13Have I ever seen him as a support?
- 53:16Yeah, what have I seen him in? What do I know him from?
- 53:18Top Gun Maverick. OK.
- 53:21All right. I mean, there was a lot of,
- 53:24there were a lot of people in that so.
- 53:25Yeah, but that's that's all I know him from No, he was also in
- 53:29that Sydney movie I attempted to watch.
- 53:31I. Think it was.
- 53:33Called Tits the movie I was. Going to say you were too
- 53:35distracted. Yeah, I was distracted by going.
- 53:41No remember we saw other photos that a whole body.
- 53:44Have you shown any woman from that angle?
- 53:46I'm going to be interested, Luke.
- 53:48I still love that fucking clip of the I think it was on Italian
- 53:52TV with the subtitles. Would they put the subtitles on
- 53:55either side of her tits? Incredible.
- 53:58Brilliant thing. Ever.
- 53:59Because. That I know.
- 54:00It wasn't The Onion, it was the news.
- 54:03And you can tell that they they just before it went, right
- 54:05before it went to air, somebody went, hang on a minute.
- 54:07We know why people are watching this.
- 54:09We can't space space. No one's no one's interested in
- 54:13what she's saying. Or if they are, it's secondary
- 54:20and you certainly don't cover up one with the other.
- 54:23Yeah. Oh, look, why are we going down
- 54:27that path? Let's talk about.
- 54:28Let's just shoot Larry. Yeah, yes.
- 54:32So this is fun. This is a very nostalgic
- 54:34episode. Yeah, I saw this this pops up on
- 54:38AI follow this site Indie Retro News, because they talk about
- 54:41new releases for old console like literally old computers and
- 54:44consoles. So this is Leisure Suit Larry, a
- 54:49game listeners may be familiar with from the 80s, Nineteen 87
- 54:54in particular, and it was on IBM PC and I think it might be in an
- 54:57Amiga. I played it on Amstrad.
- 54:59It was on Amiga. On Amstrad, did you I?
- 55:02Played it on Amstrad. Yeah.
- 55:04OK. Well, this is it's being ported
- 55:07to the Commodore 64. I'm surprised it wasn't already
- 55:10there. Well, apparently the the AGI
- 55:14engine, the the, the engine they used couldn't run on the
- 55:17Commodore 64. So they just never did.
- 55:20And they never went never. And in 80. 7 Commodore 64 had
- 55:23already been officially. Discussed.
- 55:24Yeah, it wasn't worth the. Yeah, it wasn't worth the effort
- 55:28to make it. Well, I do a lot of a lot of
- 55:30games at the time were being ported to to both 16 and 8 bit
- 55:34consoles, but just just I guess this wasn't one of.
- 55:38Them but somebody. Somebody's doing this game was
- 55:40starting it, yes. Couldn't have an actual copy of
- 55:43it for the. Parental.
- 55:45Lock Yeah, yes. And who's the president of?
- 55:49I don't know. What's the president?
- 55:53Yeah. Yeah.
- 55:54Yeah, in Australia, yes. Yeah.
- 55:58The only good thing about it was the IT was like 100 questions or
- 56:01something but you only got asked 10 and it asked you at random so
- 56:04you could if you got stuck you. Just try again.
- 56:07Reboot and and hopefully you got easier ones.
- 56:09I Remember Me and Carl Smith sat there in like 1990 for like 2
- 56:13hours guessing at these things. What is a transvestite?
- 56:18Don't know. You got any idea like?
- 56:20The questions are, yeah, the questions are wild.
- 56:26But yeah, yeah, I'm excited just because I think this is a cool
- 56:29project. This is one of those things
- 56:30that's like, I mean, I'd love to do something like this, except I
- 56:35wouldn't. I think I would get bored and
- 56:37frustrated too quickly. But the fact that somebody has
- 56:39done this. Is the guys that are doing this,
- 56:41they're amazing with what they're able to do and with the
- 56:44patience and the knowledge that they've got to go and do this.
- 56:47Yeah, I talked to at PAX, I think it was last year actually.
- 56:51I talked to these, the guys who make new NES games and I was
- 56:56asking him like, how do you make an NES game?
- 56:59And he said I work. He said I just work in notepad
- 57:04writing machine code and then you and then you use a dev kit
- 57:08to put on. I was like fuck man, like can't
- 57:12be bothered with that. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:14Yeah, like, I'm a programmer and even I'm like, fuck that.
- 57:17Like too hot? Yeah.
- 57:19If that's what you got to do. Hey guys, I've found, I've found
- 57:23the questions. I've found the list of
- 57:24questions. Oh, OK.
- 57:26Who who thinks they can answer any of these?
- 57:29Pick 10 at random. Yeah, let's see.
- 57:33Question One tiptoe through the tulips was recorded by.
- 57:40Oh, that's that. Oh, what's his name?
- 57:45Tiny Tim. Yes, Tiny Tim, right, second
- 57:49question, quite a short question.
- 57:52Where's the? Beef.
- 57:55Yes, OK, a Neru jacket is a jacket.
- 58:08A Neru jacket condom. Out of date.
- 58:12OK, OK. You know, you know, there's one.
- 58:16Bourbon Street is in. New Orleans.
- 58:20Yes, Calvin Klein is. I guess less people knew who
- 58:24that was back. In the designer it.
- 58:25Is yes, yes, OK, Charlie McCarthy and.
- 58:37Edgar Bergen. Edgar Bergen.
- 58:39Yeah, Herb Alpert and the Something brass.
- 58:50Jesus. Big shiny.
- 58:53Tijuana. Tijuana brass.
- 58:57Yeah, these are very like. I mean, I assume this is done
- 59:00for the laughs more than anything else, but it's just
- 59:03like. If a physician was on an island
- 59:06with Bo Derek, he would. Drink.
- 59:12Thank God. OK.
- 59:14All right. Oh, here's 1 Lee Harvey killed.
- 59:21JFK. Yes, yes.
- 59:23And I'm, I'm, oh, I see you're saying Lee Harvey.
- 59:25Because that's all it says here. Yeah, I've googled Bo Derek and
- 59:28I OK, fine, I get it. Oh, yeah, I didn't.
- 59:31I didn't know who Bo Derek was. Yeah, but OK, fair enough.
- 59:35I guess Al Jaffe was into this lady, which makes sense.
- 59:41Who was the leader of Nazi Germany?
- 59:45We've got some Nazi news, we could put that in the after
- 59:48party. Let's go to the after party.
- 59:50I want to hear the Nazi news and I also want to see what Bo
- 59:54Derek. You need, you want I.
- 59:56Assumed Bo Derek was a dude just because it's two dude names Bo.
- 1:00:00Derek and Derek, yeah. I guess 2 dude names cancel out
- 1:00:03and make a a girl. Oh.
- 1:00:05I've seen this photo of her in the swimsuit with the.
- 1:00:08Brakes, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:09What it's from though? I think Al Jaffe also saw that
- 1:00:12photo, yeah. Yeah, and took one hand off it
- 1:00:17and put it on the. Keyboard and as he used that
- 1:00:19typing thanking God, that's what I call it when I do this.
- 1:00:26Yeah, thank you. Jesus.
- 1:00:33Seems like she's still alive. And actually as a 60 year old,
- 1:00:36she's still very attractive. Yeah, so.
- 1:00:40Yeah. Yeah, you had to go back to 80s
- 1:00:42actually, hold on. She's Oh no, she's 68, that's
- 1:00:45fine. Or something to do maths in my
- 1:00:47head. And she was on.
- 1:00:48You've got to cut off that. Could be a bit.
- 1:00:50You've got to. No, I love it.
- 1:00:52Yeah, he's like 68 or. No, the game would have come
- 1:00:59out. I mean, Matt's got to cut off
- 1:01:01too, but it's at the other end. Waka waka waka.
- 1:01:06What? That's a good decision.
- 1:01:11What? Providing they've been
- 1:01:12circumcised. Sorry.
- 1:01:14Is that baby seven days old? That's younger than seven days
- 1:01:19old. I'm not a sicko.
- 1:01:27All right, Can we go? What is it, one of his shows or
- 1:01:30the stand up where he's like someone thinks of a pedophile.
- 1:01:32He'd like, well you'd be safe even if I was.
- 1:01:37I think it was afterlife. I think some kid from a school
- 1:01:39was harassing him and you're a pen.
- 1:01:41I'll you'd be safer. Than I was.
- 1:01:43Yeah. Right.
- 1:01:44Yeah, yeah. Oh yeah, you're right.
- 1:01:45Yeah, right. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:45The little ginger kid. Yeah, that's it.
- 1:01:47That's it. Nothing wrong with Ginger.
- 1:01:49Reminds me of. That isn't fantastic.
- 1:01:51Sunny, the implication, are you gonna hurt these women?
- 1:01:55No, I'm not gonna hurt these women.
- 1:01:57I'm gonna have to hurt these women.
- 1:01:58I'm not gonna have to because they're not gonna say no because
- 1:02:03of the implication. Yeah, I.
- 1:02:05Mean and then there's if it. Said no, then that.
- 1:02:07'D be it then. But you don't understand,
- 1:02:09they're not. They're not going to say no.
- 1:02:12And then there's that woman behind him and he's obviously
- 1:02:14you're not in any danger. That's right.
- 1:02:21Yeah. You said he's out.
- 1:02:24By the way, 2 episodes are out. Oh, is it?
- 1:02:28Yeah, first one, he's all right. Second one was very funny.
- 1:02:30OK. The first one is that crossover
- 1:02:33episode and I think I'd enjoy it more if I knew what the other
- 1:02:35show was. Oh.
- 1:02:36Yes. Abbott Elementary, I've never
- 1:02:39seen it and I think it threw me off because the tone of it is
- 1:02:42different to Sunny and I was. Yeah, I knew they did
- 1:02:46crossovers, but I don't know what the show is either.
- 1:02:48Yeah. I mean, it's, it's fine.
- 1:02:51It's just what's it called? It's just.
- 1:02:52Different elementary. It seems like more like an
- 1:02:55office style comedy filled in a school like a.
- 1:02:59Maybe if you'd seen the crossover first or.
- 1:03:01Yeah, if I was mood that show, I think I would have got it.
- 1:03:05Just like I said, the tone. It wasn't like an episode of
- 1:03:07Sunny, it was like an episode of something else that they're in
- 1:03:09and. Especially because they're
- 1:03:10talking about doing more with them as well.
- 1:03:13That's what I've heard. Rumors done a Oh, it's got
- 1:03:16Orlando Jones in it still ranting that he was sacked from
- 1:03:21what? Was he sacked from American
- 1:03:24gods? American Gods, which would be
- 1:03:26cancelled now anyway so. That's going to say he's
- 1:03:27thanking his lucky stars. Man people are not enjoying the
- 1:03:31whatever rushed, cobbled together season 2 of Sandman.
- 1:03:35Oh, is that out? Is it?
- 1:03:36Yeah, that's. A shame.
- 1:03:38But is it they actually don't like it or?
- 1:03:42I think people are saying this would be better if Neil Gaiman
- 1:03:45wrote it like, like, no, but like, I think they don't want to
- 1:03:49say that, but I think they're saying like, it's obvious this.
- 1:03:52Is not. Things are better when Neil's
- 1:03:54got his fingers in them. That's all for this week.
- 1:03:59Thank you for listening and we hope you enjoyed the show.
- 1:04:03If you enjoyed it then please subscribe and item to receive
