- 0:45So guys welcome back the importance of routine for
- 0:47autism. A lot of people will always ask
- 0:49about this. Now autism is a neurological
- 0:52condition as we all know, and it has certain characteristics that
- 0:56come with it. Now one of the main kind of
- 0:58trait of characteristics of autism is repetitive behaviour
- 1:01or a tendency to to have affinity for routine.
- 1:06Why? It's a really big question and
- 1:08I'm going to answer it right now just after I tell you if you
- 1:10want to download my free autism white fax PDF book, you can do
- 1:14at autismhacks.net right now. It's completely free.
- 1:17Link is down below. So autism and routines like this
- 1:20is the thing about routine, OK? When you are a routine, that's
- 1:23something that you do passively and you know that you're going
- 1:25to do the same thing every day. So it could be getting up,
- 1:27having conflicts, sitting on your sofa and watching SpongeBob
- 1:30SquarePants until 11 AM and then you go out and do a workout,
- 1:34right? If you did that every single
- 1:35day, that is your routine. Now, the reason autistic people
- 1:37gravitate towards us on why it's so important for us, just people
- 1:40to have these routines is because autism comes with an
- 1:42inability to regulate emotions around changes or surprise kind
- 1:47of impromptu events. So say you have a sudden change
- 1:51in plans. This could throw an autistic
- 1:52person off for the rest of the day.
- 1:53However, if you knew what was going to happen, if you could
- 1:55predict if you have predictability in your day, you
- 1:58can relax in that. So routine offers
- 2:00predictability. Autistic people love
- 2:02predictability and love to have that predictability along a a
- 2:06longer period of time over a space of, you know, their entire
- 2:10life. If they could, if they could
- 2:11predict the routine for everything, they would.
- 2:14You'll see all sorts of people over plan for things because
- 2:16they want to predict the routine.
- 2:17They want to predict what's going to happen next.
- 2:19And by predicting what happens next, you have calmness, you
- 2:22have the ability to relax into something, which is very
- 2:24important. So routine for an uncertain
- 2:27person is kind of like a cosy, comfy blanket of comfortable.
- 2:30I know what's going to happen next.
- 2:31This is why it's important and it should never be made fun of.
- 2:35It should never be something that's disqualified.
- 2:36It should be something that is validated and accepted because
- 2:40that's what autistic people enjoy in life.
- 2:43Yes, we have to deviate from those plans every now and then,
- 2:45which can become essentially stressful for autistic
- 2:47individuals, but I think the importance of routine is healthy
- 2:49and it's good for autism. If you have anything to add, pop
- 2:52out to comment. I read every single one.
- 2:53All right, guys, Peace.
