- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, as I've mentioned, we know that there were a
- 0:02Speaker 1: number of arrests over the weekend following incidents in the
- 0:04Speaker 1: Northern Suburbs and the Northern Territory. Police have arrested at
- 0:08Speaker 1: least six youth in relation to aggravated robberies in the
- 0:11Speaker 1: Northern Suburbs on Saturday. I understand there was also more
- 0:15Speaker 1: in another suburb. But joining me on the line is
- 0:18Speaker 1: Detective Acting Superintendent Mark Bland.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Good morning to you, Mark.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Good morning, Katie, Good Vorantyr listeners.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Mark, good to have you on the show. What happened
- 0:27Speaker 1: in Malac? Firstly on Saturday, Yes, Saturday.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Evening, a group of youths attended to a supermarket there
- 0:35Speaker 3: where they've burnished a knife and stole some mirams within
- 0:40Speaker 3: the shop. From there, they've then gone to a local
- 0:45Speaker 3: oval where they've pulled a knife and threatened to elderly
- 0:50Speaker 3: ladies demanding money. Thankfully, some members of the public's stepped
- 0:56Speaker 3: in and the youth fled. They then later stole motor vehicle,
- 1:00Speaker 3: pulling the driver from the vehicle that crashed into a
- 1:04Speaker 3: fence not long after, and student it's some excellent work.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Why the CCTV operators which operators ranche detractor use around
- 1:14Speaker 3: the Casarina area and made some time the arrest. All
- 1:18Speaker 3: six were apprehended not long after.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Bloody hell are those I mean, obviously are all of
- 1:24Speaker 1: the victims okay, but particularly those two older women, Yeah.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Okay, they're obviously quite shaken up about the whole thing.
- 1:30Speaker 3: So I really would like to thank the members of
- 1:32Speaker 3: the public who came to their aid, which probably prevented
- 1:35Speaker 3: anything more serious happening. Yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 2: What absolute legends.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And I think that sometimes, you know, it can be
- 1:40Speaker 1: really hard to step up in those situations when you
- 1:42Speaker 1: don't know what's going on. But I bet those women
- 1:46Speaker 1: appreciate it as well.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely absolutely. So four of those six were reminded,
- 1:53Speaker 3: which was a good result on their age between twelve
- 1:55Speaker 3: and fifteen.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Twelve and fifteen.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, two were bailed.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Goodness mate, and obviously behind the wheel of a car
- 2:04Speaker 1: as well, a stolen car.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Yeah absolutely yeah. It just had just danger written all
- 2:10Speaker 3: over it. So thankfully no one was actually hurt.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yeah, you spot on there, hey, And then I understand
- 2:15Speaker 1: there was a separate incident in Nightcliff YEP in the.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Early hours of Saturday morning. There were four businesses in
- 2:23Speaker 3: the Nightcliff area that were unlawfully entered and some damage
- 2:27Speaker 3: caused to them. Again, quick response by the police we
- 2:31Speaker 3: managed to arrest three of those offenders and a separate
- 2:35Speaker 3: mail who was in their company for a breach of bail.
- 2:38Speaker 3: So two of those were charged and both reminded and
- 2:42Speaker 3: a third mile youth was released their diversion.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Consideration And how old were they?
- 2:48Speaker 3: They were seventeen, sixteen and sixteen.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And were they so?
- 2:52Speaker 1: Were they all the charges from those incidents over the
- 2:55Speaker 1: weekend Plundy or were there others as well?
- 2:58Speaker 3: No, we had three arrests from IgA Fenny Bay, hunloff
- 3:02Speaker 3: Entry early Friday morning. Yeah, we arrested three of those
- 3:06Speaker 3: offenders age sixteen, sixteen and seventeen. Two of those are reminded,
- 3:11Speaker 3: one bailed. Obviously we're still looking for two further offenders
- 3:15Speaker 3: and investigations continuing. So anyone out there who can provide
- 3:19Speaker 3: any further information you greatly appreciate it.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely give the police a call on one three
- 3:23Speaker 1: to one triple four. Now I also understand that there
- 3:27Speaker 1: was a breaking out in Palmerston overnight.
- 3:30Speaker 3: There was at our licensed premises at Palmerston. Appears at
- 3:35Speaker 3: about eleven persons at forced entry into that business. Excellent
- 3:39Speaker 3: work again by the CCTV operators in general. Judas police
- 3:42Speaker 3: apprehended seven not long after. So they're currently in custody
- 3:46Speaker 3: with Strikeforce tried and conducting those investigations.
- 3:50Speaker 1: And do you understand are they yoused or are they
- 3:52Speaker 1: suspected to be adults in that situation?
- 3:55Speaker 3: They're all adults, Katie.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Yeah, goodness mate, it sounds like you guys are incredibly
- 3:59Speaker 1: busy at the moment.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been a very busy weekend. But I have
- 4:03Speaker 3: to say some really really good police work to wrap
- 4:06Speaker 3: all that up so quickly. They have that many arrests
- 4:08Speaker 3: in such a good quick turn around. Very pleasing.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, look, I obviously I don't want to
- 4:14Speaker 1: get political with you in any way, shape or form.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I don't want to draw you into that, but you
- 4:17Speaker 1: must get frustrated sometimes with some of these things that
- 4:21Speaker 1: youths are engaging in.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Yeah, it can be frustrating, but we just have to
- 4:25Speaker 3: remain focused and just do the best we can and
- 4:29Speaker 3: try to make the time apprehensions a lot we did
- 4:31Speaker 3: on the weekend.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah, good on you.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I appreciate your time this morning, and I know the
- 4:36Speaker 1: whole community appreciates the work that your Strikeforce Trident team does,
- 4:40Speaker 1: you and all the crew, and well all our police
- 4:42Speaker 1: officers out there on the beat.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Thank you very much, Katie, I really appreciate it.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Yeah, good on you. Thanks so much for your time
- 4:49Speaker 2: this morning. Blandy. We appreciate you coming on. Thank you.
