Transcript
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department podcast.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Sean Boyle, and joining me today, back again after a week off, is the Cousins.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Jeremy Good, Shane Douglas.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Boys, how are you?
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: What up, what up?
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Great to be back, per usual.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm just so, so incredibly humbled and thrilled and honored to be on this podcast with Jeremy Good again.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you guys are a package deal.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: The sooner you accept that, the better off we'll all be.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Before we get into anything too serious, uh little reminder here to please rate, review, and subscribe.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: A lot of you guys are listening, which we very much appreciate.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Make sure those downloads are turned on.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And most importantly, tell a friend to tell a friend about the show.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: That is the best, most organic way to grow.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: So any word of mouth would be appreciated.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: And we thank you for your efforts on that front.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Our agenda today, obviously, we're going to be college hoops-centric, as we just had the Sweet 16 in the lead eight.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: We have the final four on deck.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: We've got the return of the Tortured Fans of the Week, which we are going to work into the College Hoops talk that we have on deck.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Also, we have the best thing you saw this week.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: And then we had to bring back, did you see this?
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: I thought it was a lot of fun last week when I did it with Michael Collins.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: The Chapel Roan Brazil segment was a big hit.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: So we're hoping to find something along those lines this week.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Boys, the opening question for you today is the baseball draft, the voting is open.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: That episode came out for opening day last week.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Did you guys take the episode in and how did you see that draft shaking out?
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: Yep, I was uh glad to listen to this uh this episode a few days ago.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: Um boy, it was a great, great time listening.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: Uh, I have a bunch of thoughts.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: Jeremy, I'll let you go first.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: It was a great draft, very entertaining.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Some new voices, uh, recurring voices too, of course.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: It's I'm not I'm not sucking up to Sean.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: He will never get the first pick, and he'll always win the draft because of uh just blunders from the top, and it's like he's a good host because he's not like swaying the draft at all.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: But like, guys, not don't let him get don't let him get beer if you don't if he doesn't have the first pick.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: But it was very entertaining, some interesting picks to say the least.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Uh currently the Phillies are down 9-2 at home.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: The only thing that could make it worse is if they lose on a walk-off.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Uh but um otherwise it was a very entertaining draft um in baseball season, so very fitting, very fun.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I do think that Sean won that draft.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: And you know, I'm I'm gonna tell it like I see it.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: I did not think that you won the movie draft.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: I thought you came in second in the uh in the TV show draft.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: You definitely didn't win the movie draft, the rom com draft.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: I did, which you didn't put that one out for poll, the one draft that well I received parent trap.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: I digress.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: But Sean had a great draft here.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: Uh I do have a couple notes here.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: I'm just gonna I'm just gonna mow through them real quick.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: Uh one, yeah, the fact that Mark Monero asked if it was the home team or the away team that hits a walk-off home run, automatic disqualification.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: The rest of his draft suck too.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Um a lot of people are uh voting for Mark.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: I didn't put him on the poll because there's only four spaces allowed.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: And by default, if you lose a quarter of your audio, you're just not gonna get one of those four spots.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And also, a lot of Mark's draft relies on hot dog.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Of course, he got hot dog with the first pick.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: It's not my fault that he had the first pick.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Also, Crab fries, talk about regional.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: A lot of ballparks across the country are not getting crab fries.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: Without cheese.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: Without cheese.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: Without cheese.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: No, but I heard that he has been banned from the podcast, which it's probably a good thing.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Something that I would have said, like if I got stuck at the end without having like an event that happens at a bat uh at a baseball game.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Catching a foul ball.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: That's you too.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: Which you did recently.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Which I did, I did recently.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: Um, not to mention save the um the young ladies sitting behind me as well.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: It was like a one one-handed snag.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: Uh, it's on video.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, kind of on video.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Kind of on the video.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: It's inconclusive evidence for sure.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: If you this is a bruder film, if you went frame by frame, you could kind of see the full extension and catch.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Uh let's see, what else do we have?
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, Ryan took Citizens Bank Park as one of the ballparks, which I mean it's it's not close to the top five.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: No, I mean, it's a good atmosphere, sure.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: And Red October, uh, it is it's very exciting and a and a great home field advantage because of the fans, but the bones of the ballpark, um, you know, the fossils of the ballpark, just not not there, not there to be a top five pick.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I will say Ryan, Ryan, he tried to stay true to himself in terms of he had to be to the park in order to draft it, he thought.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Which uh okay, that's that's fair.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Some of us do advanced scouting, though.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: I try to see as many as possible, so I have those options available to me.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: I shouldn't be punished for that.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just called preparation.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: Uh prepare to fail or whatever that's saying is failure to play it.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: Uh nail.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: And then uh, but I I do like Ryan stay true to himself, so credit to him for that.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: Uh he's certainly not banned from the podcast.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: And and then last but not least, Sean took beer, and then God, did we have every variation of a beer after that?
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: Umbelievable.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: Just complete complete disingenuosity, is that a word?
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: I I don't I don't think so, but I know what you're trying to say.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: Just complete disingenuosity from from the rest of the crew.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: Uh I expected more from Michael Collins.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let's get that on the merch.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: Uh oh, and we have to give an update of of the bracket pool, which uh I might win.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: I just might win.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: There's a chance you do win the bracket pool, Shane.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: We have uh a true developing situation of I don't know the person who is in the lead.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: I am not sure who how bigger 44 is, but congrats to you on a 99.9 percentile bracket so far.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Outstanding work for me.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: What?
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: 99.9.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Truly, the we have one of the best brackets in the country in this pool.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Coming in behind him is Patrick Duda, a good friend.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Another person I don't know is in third.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: I it's a true who could say.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: And then Shane, you are in fourth place.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: And if Arizona wins, you're looking very strong.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: Where's uh where's Jeremy?
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: I assume close to the bottom.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: I can tell you he's not not on the first page of the leaderboard.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: I know Matt Kleinfelters at the bottom.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: That's a good transition, uh, Shane.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: I want to jump into this weekend's action, this past weekend's action.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: We're going to do a quick Elite Eight recap.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Saturday's games were similar to one another, in my opinion.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: One team went out in front in the first half, but the better team seemed to pull away in the second.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Those two games were Illinois against Iowa and Arizona taking on Purdue.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Both were entertaining watches.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: I don't think anybody was too disappointed, but we didn't get exactly get the endings that we were hoping for in those games.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: What were your thoughts on the Saturday games?
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly as you said, Sean.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: Uh the better team, I think, just kind of throughout the uh, especially in the second half, just kind of wore down the opponent.
- 8:06SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, Illinois' size and uh just offensive rebounding, uh just got them past Iowa.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: And then same thing for Arizona.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: Purdue put up a hell of a fight in the first half, uh, but Arizona was just too much.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: And also, congrats to Brad Underwood and Tommy Lloyd.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: I love when first time head coaches who have never been to a Final Four make their first Final Four.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Um Brad and Tommy both seem like like good lads.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: So uh shout out to them.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: Brad's on the older side, too, I would imagine.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: So that's cool.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: He's been doing it for a minute, especially with his teams.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: He is such a Eastern European group, which probably is it might be the new wave uh for Kyle Choup's going forward.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Good games on Saturday.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: I know they weren't as close, but I think we've seen this a lot throughout the tournament.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: First half, a little surprise from maybe the underdog throughout the entire tournament of the games, first round, second round, sweet 16.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: And then the bear team usually finishes them off.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Shane, you mentioned Underwood with Tommy Lloyd both getting to their first Final Fours.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Uh, one note about Underwood, he has really been on a journey.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: He's coached at schools like Daytona College and Dodge City.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: Gotta get out of Dodge.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: He was at Stephen F.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: Austin, where I became a fan of Underwood and how his teams played.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: And then I kind of soured on him a few years ago when Illinois had some truly unlikable teams with uh Coleman Hawkins and Terrence Shannon in particular.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: I know you weren't a fan of that team as well.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: So I tr I soured on him a bit then, but then when you see just how much it meant to him after 27 years of being a coach to get to his first Final Four, I was kind of back in on Illinois.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: So I thought that was pretty cool.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: And Tommy Lloyd's just another guy.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's an elite ball coach who just had some pretty bad tournament luck or efforts the past few seasons, but what he's done at Arizona has been pretty remarkable in his first real head coaching job.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: Thomas Walk, remember Thomas Walk up at uh Thomas Walku?
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: He looked like the mascot.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was a Brad uh Underwood coach uh ball club back then.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: Sure was.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Beating uh BCUn too long ago either.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: No.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: That was like two like 2017 when ended college for us.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like a decade ago.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Um Tommy Lloyd, UNC calls, regardless of what he does in the Final Four, you know, championship if he gets there.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: I think he's spilled enough in Arizona where he's like, I'm good, but what do you guys think?
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: He sort of seems like the reason why I preference it is because he sort of seems like the number one coach for that job right now that they're talking about, or the idea at least.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: Well, carousel talk from each jar.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: That's that's a dangerous road to go down, because I could talk about the carousel.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a whole episode in and of itself.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: The carousel is wild and undoubtedly will get even more wild once UNC is filled.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, I don't see him making the move because it it is an upgrade of a job, but it's not that big of an upgrade when you already have something rolling like he does at Arizona.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: I'd be hard pressed to see him off the back of potentially a national championship, but at the very least a Final Four, just picking up and leaving.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, it seems like that would not be something in the cards, but I could be wrong.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Stranger things have happened.
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like, I don't know.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: If you're at a school who just doesn't have the resources to win a national championship, yeah, for absolutely go to a school that does like North Carolina, but I mean it's pretty clear that just this Arizona program where it is right now, they they could easily win a national championship this year and could, you know, become a real, real power going forward.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: So I don't know, it'll be interesting.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: These schools have also uh the buyouts with these coach coaches these days are insane, which I think makes it tough for him too.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Let's move on to Sunday's games.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: We had an absolute snoozer for the first game on Sunday, which was Michigan just pummeling Tennessee.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: God, I hate that for the Falls.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: You know, their first Final Four pursuit.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Damn it, I'm just so upset they couldn't get it over the line.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: And then we had the game of the tournament on Sunday, thank God, because we deserved that after not too many close elite eight games, to say the least.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: So we needed an epic game, and we certainly got one.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: Yukon comes all the way back from down 19 to beat Duke.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Jeremy, let's just talk about the main event.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: What were your thoughts as a Duke Bama Temple fan?
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Lakers, tough Locke's Barcelona, tough loss.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Dodgers.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: Uh tough loss for the Blue Devils, of course.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Uh Alabama too, although they just Michigan's a wagon, so you can't like it is what is with that.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: And then Temple, obviously, tough.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Just tough to be an Al.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I wasn't asking for your I was I was asking about the Duke game.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: I think that was pretty tough.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, I know, I know.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to delay this.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Duke, it's tough.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: I think with sports in general in today's world, I think it's changed where it's like, it's what have you done for me lately?
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: If you win, great, if you lose.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: It's either win or loss.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: It's not about like how how it happens.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: The problem with this game is it's totally about how it happens.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: And that's just how it just like stings terrible in that way.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Yukon's a really good team.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: I think it's great, uh, four teams in the final four, which is great for college basketball.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: It's something that we don't always get.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Sometimes you get Cinderels, which I kind of think is not great for the sport sometimes.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: So I think you're gonna have four great teams.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Yukon is a great comeback.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Maybe there's a technical at the end for uh touching a ref.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, I don't know.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: That's that's a rule.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: But um it's I mean it's brutal.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's impossible.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: What a brutal way to lose a basketball game.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: There's no words to it, just watch it.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: There is no worse way to lose a basketball game, and I am so happy that it happened.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: Um that last sequence, just all all time.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: It's like one of those things that you it's like it's playing out in slow motion, that last sequence.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: You're yelling at UConn to foul, and then Caden Boozer has the ball, and all he has to do is literally anything other than what he did.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: The list of things that would have been more effective than what he did is endless.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, drop kicking the ball into the stance would have been more effective.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: He could have turned around and shot it back at Yukon's basket himself.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: Yes, just grannying styling it up in the air would have been so much more effective.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's a timeout Caden would have been great.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of things.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: He could have gone in fetal position with the with the ball.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Like he could have done anything.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: Uh anyway, but then yeah, the then Caravan gets it, uh, and the awareness to not just hoist up himself, but to throw it back to Mullins, who can kind of you know walk into the into the shot, and yeah, the ball seemed like it was in the air for an hour, and yeah, it was just fantastic.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: Braylon Mullins is from Indianapolis or nearby, and him sending the Huskies to the Final Four in his hometown is the stuff you just can't write.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: And the manner in which he did it, like you guys talked about.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: I mean, really words can't describe it.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: As a notorious Duke hater, I also love to see it.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: It was truly unbelievable because, like you said, Shane, it does play out in sort of slow motion.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Your heart's almost beating two times as frequently as possible.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: And I don't even have a dog in the fight.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: I was just rooting against Duke because they're usually unlikable.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: I thought the composure from Caravan was great.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: The shot from Mullins looked good the entire time.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: It was one of those that you're like, oh, that it looked pretty clean.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: He's what he's got one of those shots too, with a little bit of a low release, too, that it didn't look at all different from his normal shooting stroke.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: That was in his range, and boy oh boy, what a moment.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: I mean, everybody who was involved in that game will think about that exact play for the rest of their lives almost every day.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: And I I couldn't stop watching like the different angles and like replays of like the TV cameras, but also just people in attendance, their their like personal videos and stuff like that.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: I just the only thing I wish is that we had like a shot on Carlos the whole time.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: To see his face when that ball went in.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: Um I guess a camera on Jeremy Good, too.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: He probably honestly, Jeremy Good probably wasn't even watching the game.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: He's probably brother.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: That was I can't see what he was doing, but he definitely was not watching the game.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: That hurt live.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: It hurts with replay.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, it hurt.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: It hurt.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Alright, let's use that as a transition into our lovable losers segment, our tortured fans of the week.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: I wanted to stay in the college basketball realm for this one because obviously there's some teams that lost that we have not mentioned.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: Duke is the easy answer, but I'll let Shane just touch a bit more on them.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: My answer, though, is Purdue.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: A team with a core of seniors that had a really legendary career in a lot of aspects, especially Braden Smith.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: They were the preseason number one team.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: People seem to forget coming into this season.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: Lofty expectations, and they looked a part of that number one team throughout much of the early part of the season.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: They then hit a rough patch in the middle of the year, and they never quite rebounded.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: They got better, they won the Big Ten tournament, they seem to be peaking again.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: They just never hit the ceiling that a team like Arizona did or a team like Michigan did consistently.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: And I think that's just brutal for Purdue.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Why I think they're the Torture fans of the week, they had the seven-point halftime lead against Arizona, and I think all of their fans convinced themselves, like, oh, okay, we're actually back.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: We are that preseason number one team.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: And then for it all to come crumbling down in the second half, I thought Trey Kaufman-Ren, one of those seniors, was absolutely awful in that game.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: It's not one that he's going to want to remember for a long time.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: A great career from all those guys, and definitely something to be proud of as Purdue fans because they were very successful.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: But for it to end without a Final Four appearance in the senior year of Braden Smith, Fletcher Lawyer, Trey Kaufman-Ren, and Clough, I think that's tough.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: So Purdue is my torture fans of the week.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's that's a good one.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: And I'm gonna take it off topic a little bit.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: As you mentioned that Purdue is a preseason number one, it's always fun to look back and see, you know, the teams that are still standing in the final four.
- 18:39SPEAKER_02: Where were they ranked?
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, because we are a very anti-preseason poll podcast, I would say.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: Should not exist.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: We do not endorse the preseason polls, but just for the sake of uh little live podcasting here, Yukon was number four preseason, Michigan was seven, Arizona was thirteen, and Illinois was seventeen.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: Um not bad.
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: So not terrible, but it's you know, it's you know, Arizona is clearly a top, you know, two has been a top two team in the sport uh for the whole season.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, it's just just fun looking at that.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: And yeah, talking to the city.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: You are correct in saying that it is interesting, and also there's a lot of years where it's not even close.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: Like there's two teams in the final four that weren't ranked in the preseason, and obviously, I think we would all agree Michigan and Arizona have never really left being the two best teams in the sport this year, and they both weren't in the top five, so certainly got some things wrong, but again, I don't think preseason rankings should exist.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: Jarrett, what do you have for your Tortured fan base?
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, we saw it again for a second year this year of the tournament.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, my Tortured fans are fans of the Cinderella run.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Really didn't get much this year.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: You had a few upsets here and there.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Uh Iowa made an awesome run.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: They're not really a Cinderella team.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: What Ben McCollum did was amazing uh to get to the Elite Eight, but they're not really a Cinderella team.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: They're in the big 10.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: It doesn't have the same feel.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: You look at the St.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: Louis's, you look at other programs with great coaches that you thought could do some good work.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Akron, um, VCU.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: The VCU, great run, too.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: But you know, you would think that some of these teams might be able to get to the uh Elite Eight, maybe even further, and they just didn't this year.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: So people who love the upsets, uh, not the tournament for you, so they're tortured.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: Blame NIL, blame the unlimited transfer portal era.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: True.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: At the same time, though, these mid-majors have a lot more money than ever before.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Facilities, coaches, so I don't feel like yeah, you're right.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: The power teams have a lot more money than they right.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: But there was still but but the power teams always had more back in the day.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: You still sell upset.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Like, you know.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I would say I'm taking the long-term approach before I jump to any specific reasons why there have been a lack of upsets the last two years.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Because I do agree with you, Jar.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: I don't think it's anything new that the power conferences have more money.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: They've always had more money.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: Shane is right, the unlimited transfers is, I think, the main thing where the when mid-major teams typically have guys growing over the course of three to four seasons, oftentimes they'll try to spend their peak season, their senior season, as a contributor at a big high major school in hopes of getting to a final four.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: Whereas in previous years, they might have stuck around and had that core nucleus at the mid major school for all four years.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: So I think that might be the key distinguishing point.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: But I think it's too early to say that the run of Cinderella's is dead in the tournament.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: I think we need to wit let it play out over five to ten years.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: Johnny Longview.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, we touched on Duke earlier.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: I think that's a pretty obvious one.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: Uh They were up by 19 at one point.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: They were the number one overall seed.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: They were getting healthier.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: Um, I still don't think that they were the team that Arizona or Michigan is.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: Uh, but you know, they had their shot right in front of them.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: Um and to lose in that way is just so heartbreaking for them.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: Uh, not that I'm heartbroken at all.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: I'm actually very joyous that it happened.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: It was fulfilling for us.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's great.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: But Shane, I'll I will point out as something to of note for Duke, they were dealing with some injuries, and they certainly weren't at the level of Arizona, Michigan right now, but I don't think it's all that far-fetched to say that they could have been.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: They did beat Michigan on a neutral court about a month and a half ago, and that was when they were fully healthy with Caleb Foster, who clearly wasn't himself, and then the big man Pat, he was obviously a shelf himself as well.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: So not saying it would have changed much, but I think it wasn't exactly just a perfect situation for John Shire and Duke.
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: Sure, sure.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: And especially coming off last year where uh you know they blew a big lead against Houston in the final four in a year where you know they were clicking on all cylinders and and the odds on favorite uh to a national championship.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: Just I just feel so bad for Duke fans.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: Um and then another an honorable mention, I think, is Nebraska.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: Uh obviously they had a terrific season, uh, but the way it came to an end was pretty heartbreaking for them.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: Uh they lost to so they have this great season when uh their first two tournament games in in their school's history, and then what happens in the Sweet 16?
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: They match up against uh their rivals, the Iowa Hawkeyes, with a first year head coach and a bunch of D2 uh former players, and uh yeah, they lose, they have four guys on the court and uh get sent packing by by their rivals.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Um so little honorable mention to them, but they you can't really put them in this category because they had the best year in their school's history.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: So uh shout out to the Corn Huskers.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Uh and my harp just breaks for Duke, really.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: It really does.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: You do wish if you're a Nebraska fan, you'd rather lose to anybody else than like your fiercest rival in your best ever basketball season.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: So that does suck and that will linger over them for a while.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Overall, obviously something to be excited about with what Hoyberg has going there, but definitely it stings the way that one ended.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: Alright, boys, the Final Four's here.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: Let's do a Final Four preview.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: We're gonna talk about the two games.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: We'll give our national champion picks.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: Let's kick off with the first game on Saturday.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: It is Yukon against Illinois.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: What are you looking for in this matchup?
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: Who do you see coming out on top?
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: Good game.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's like the uh the Michigan-Arizona game where you just have, like Sean mentioned, that's really it feels like a championship game.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: This is like I said earlier though, you four really good Final Four teams this year, in my opinion.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: This game will be interesting.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: Illinois, after the Penn game, their first round game, has held teams to under 59 points in all their games.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Um, I think it comes down for Illinois, uh, Keaton Waggler.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, he's the closest to a high pick in this year's draft.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: I think that's what that needs to be the difference for Illinois against uh Yukon.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: I think Yukon with the week of preparation, I think they need that after such an emotional game against Duke, where they can sort of refocus, opposed to like if this happened the Elite Eight playing 48 hours later, I think that would have been kind of hard to refocus and regroup.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: I think that so we'll see how they use that week and we'll see if uh Waggler can uh I guess really hold down the four for Illinois and score and maybe distribute to.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: I think he's gonna have to distribute a little more than he has.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think this is gonna be a really fun matchup to watch.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, two well-deserving teams.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: We talked about it a little bit on this pod, but Illinois was always a great offensive team.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: Um but now they're starting to really defend, as they have in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: Um so uh with their size, maybe they get Yukon's best uh player, Terrace Reid, into foul trouble.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: Um if that happens, Yukon's gonna be in trouble, but yeah, should be a very fun matchup.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: I'll go with Illinois.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: Leaning towards Yukon, but could very well switch to Illinois.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: See, there it is.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: Nobody, nobody toes the line like Jeremy Good.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: I'm just excited we get to watch Hurley again.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Honestly, he is box office.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: He's a truly deranged man, and I say that so fondly because I love watching him.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: I think he's an unbelievable coach, but he is maniacally laughing one minute and then threatening to kill you the next.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: And there's basically no in between.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: I I don't know how we haven't figured out an alternative feed just to watch the Hurley cam where you have the game going on and then just a Hurley cam with some faint volume that's beep bleeped out every few seconds.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: I would love that.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: I I would definitely watch that channel for this game.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: I agree with what you said about how Illinois has been defending, they've certainly improved on the defensive end, and it's made them truly one of the best five or six teams in the country, so they're definitely belonging to be in this Final Four.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go with Yukon, just the only reason.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: My head is telling me Illinois, but it feels like you have to kill Yukon a thousand times in March before they die one time.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: So I think they're just gonna find some more snake oil and live to see another day.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: Who have they so Yukon's they've they've they they've been through Michigan State, UCLA, Duke, am I correct?
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: Firmin, right?
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: Fermin UCLA.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: It's a pretty good resume.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: It's a pretty good resume to get to the final four.
- 27:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they did make it out of what we all thought was by far the strongest region.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: So that's either by far, yeah.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Another feather in their cap.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: The second game, the Clash of the Titans, we talked about is probably whoever wins this will be the favorite for the national title.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: Not saying that they will win, because I think all four teams could win it on their day.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: What's the deal with this one, boys?
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: How do you see this one going?
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Clash of the Titans, indeed.
- 28:15SPEAKER_02: Uh, in Greek mythology, the Titans were greater than even the gods.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: That's a quote from Remember the Titans.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: Uh, and that's exactly what this game is.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: Uh these two teams are like, I I think they're pretty similar.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: They are just like ultra physical, physically imposing, uh athletic teams who um will just like bludgeon you the whole game uh and just beat you down until you can, you know, can't even dribble basketball by the end of it.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Um so I'm gonna go with Arizona though.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: I think their guards are a little better.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't fully trust Cadot on Michigan.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: Uh I still think that LJ Kasen injury on Michigan is gonna hurt them a little bit.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: Um it's I mean, it's gonna hurt them at some point.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: Uh so I think Arizona's guards between Jaden Bradley, um, who made a good decision to transfer from Bama to Arizona.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: Great decision.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: Uh and Braden Burry's will take this great game.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: I am with you, Shane.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: I wanted to jump in and agree because I see it going similarly to you.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: And I also, I've been saying on this podcast for months now, I don't trust Elliott Cadeau.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: I will say, he's really proving me wrong this whole tournament.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: He's playing so much better than I thought he was capable of.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: And he's talked about how the Michigan staff has helped him with his shooting and trusted him to take those shots.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: And the other thing I've noticed about Michigan, every shot they shoot is wide open.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: They shoot the most open threes I've ever seen in a tournament setting.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: They're getting clean looks every trip down the court.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: It's because of how dominant they are inside and how much attention needs to be focused on just how big they are.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: But these guards are getting such good looks for Michigan that although I do agree that they're worse than Arizona's, the way that they're getting shots, it's a lot easier than any team that I've seen.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: So I'm hoping that they start missing them because Michigan has not shot like they have been throughout most of the season.
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: So when they do, it's pretty scary.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: But I'm gonna go with Arizona.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: Two very similar teams, too.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: They're both absolutely massive.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Their front lines are over seven foot, six eleven, six ten across the board, and they have depth.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: They're both fun to watch.
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: They're basically pro teams, they're both coached like pro-style offenses.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be great feeder.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: First one to 85, I think, might win.
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: I'm rooting for Arizona.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: My head says maybe Michigan, but I'm gonna stick with my heart on this one.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: Give me Arizona.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Rooting for Arizona.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: I I'm leaning towards Michigan right now.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: I think what it'll be it'll be these are the two best teams in college basketball.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: I think you could see 200 points, maybe.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: Probably not, obviously.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: I think there's gonna be enough defense towards the end, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a combined 200 for this game.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think I'm leading Michigan just because they have uh older players and some guys who are more adult than others in terms of just 23, 24.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: Um, but I mean Yaxel, he is uh I I don't like the guy.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: He's on a mission.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: Uh you guys mentioned it with other players too.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: And um Trey McKinney, too, really stepped up against Tennessee, which isn't I it they've they've done a good job um replacing uh LJ uh throughout the tournament.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: And it they haven't shown it hasn't shown like his presence without his presence.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: So I think I'm gonna lead Michigan.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: I'd love it if Arizona would win, though.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Jaxel's 24 going on five with his behavior.
- 31:56SPEAKER_00: He has become so unlikable.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: I I wasn't a huge fan of him to begin with, but then you see in the Tennessee game where he's just waiting to pick up the ball on the inbounds after they're up 30, and he's just letting time tick off the clock, honestly, for 15 seconds before a Tennessee player ran in and made him pick it up, and then he ends up turning it over and getting dunked on.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: And it was kind of like a fun moment, at least for Tennessee.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: It's like, hey, you can't punk us that bad.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: You you guys are doing enough, you don't need to behave like children as well.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: And then every post-game interview, this Yaxel guy, I am just sick of him.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: So that's kind of why my heart's with Arizona.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: I'm really hoping Michigan doesn't win the title, but as we said, if they get through this one, they will be the overwhelming favorite in that title game.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: Another thing about Yaxel, uh, he would after the Alabama game, he goes, I was surprised they put a freshman on me.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: Brother, this freshman, Amari Allen on Alabama, was in eighth grade when Yaxel was a juke going college.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he said he felt disrespected that the that a freshman was guarding him.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: And it's like, hey, hey, dude, uh, it's college, so like you can only be one of four things legally.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: You're you're gonna be one of those four.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: Like it's not him.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't, I don't know.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: I'm out on Yaxel, but we're in for a great final four.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: That'll wrap up our college basketball talk.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: It's sad to see the tournament coming to a close.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: We'll we'll obviously recap what happens in the title game next week and talk about one shining moment, but the season is dwindling down to its final three games.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: We have a lot on the horizon in the other sports and the rest of the world's news.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: Let's transition to the best thing you saw this week.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: These will not be college basketball related.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: I made the boys promise not to pick anything college basketball related.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: Jeremy, let's kick it off with you.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm a Phillies fan.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: Justin Crawford was called up this year for the Phillies to play center field.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: The son of Carl Crawford, baseball player who played for the Rays back in the day.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, his family was in town to see him get his first hit, his first game.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: I always love that stuff.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: It's always fun.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: Any but any any kind of MLB player who does it, regardless if it's on the Phillies, it was especially cool that it was with the Phillies, my team, so it was cool to uh see his family watch him play his uh first game.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: Promising young player for this uh Phillies team organization going forward, hopefully.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: Jeremy.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: Jeremy, can I I I I hate to do this, and I don't want this to come across as a shot against Justin Crawford, who does not have anything to do with this, but I'm not so sure we should be honoring Carl.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: He has a history of potential domestic violence.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: There is also Oh, I didn't know that.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, see, yeah, we're on so I want this podcast to be very, very much with her.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: And I'm I know Jeremy Good is is a feminist at heart, so it's tough to see him bring up an abuser, a potential abuser, in the best thing he saw this week.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: I will rephrase my statement.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: I enjoyed seeing Justin Crawford's mother watch the song in his in the MLB.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there is there's reports of Carl uh domestically abusing his ex-wife or girlfriend, and also some where there's smoke, there's fire.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: There was a young kid and a woman that drowned at a party at his house once.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: So I a lot of a lot of bad stuff coming out of the Crawford camp.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: And I I'm not so sure that we should be highlighting them in the manner Jeremy just did.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: He he he posed it to you guys as this great American family, and I'm not so sure that's the case.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: I didn't do the research on Carl recently.
- 35:34SPEAKER_00: And Jeremy, I have to admit, I did see you put this in the dock, and I did sandbag you a little bit because I thought it would be good content to wait until the pod to point this out to you.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: So I'm I'm sorry for that.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: I what we always do say though, Sean, content, content, content.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: So I really and I knew you'd understand it.
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: It's not he apologized for the error.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: Like when uh Jeremy highlighted the kid who was out for the NCAA tournament.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: Transferred by the Ethan Roberts.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: Ethan Roberts transferring maybe to a school near you.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: Is he in the portal?
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he has to because it's Penn.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: They don't give a grad year.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: Shane, I believe you you're gonna take us to the musical theater world with the best thing you saw this week.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: And I'm I'm happy to go there with you.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: Um big theater guy, uh, not allowed to put anything college basketball.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: Uh so we are transitioning to the world of musicals.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: Uh went to my cousin's uh middle school musical, The Newsies.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: Um, I missed the past two years, so I promised I'd be there this year, and there I was singing along to all the songs, King of New York, uh, with a really good tap dancing scene.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: We have Santa Fe, The World Will Know.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: Uh, just a really good musical.
- 36:50SPEAKER_02: Uh shout out to my cousin Nora.
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: She did a great job.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, that was the best thing I saw this weekend.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: Shout out, Nora.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: That's that's good stuff.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: That's heartwarming stuff from the Douglas camp this week.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: Aren't you happy I didn't let you pick anything basketball related?
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: Shout out, shout out, cousin Nora.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: Nice to know you were in town, Shane.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: No need to let me know.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: You know, we didn't have to hang out or whatever.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: But sorry.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: You're just you're you're not a man for the arts, Jeremy, so I I didn't uh think you'd enjoy the play.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: But yes, you are you are related to Nora as well.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: Um that's true.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: But yeah, uh grow grow the arts.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Jeremy, don't let him slander you like that.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: You're a man of culture.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: I know you're I know you're a wicked guy.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: I know you're a wicked guy.
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, lock in.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: Best thing I saw this week, I'm taking us to the world of golf, the wide world of golf.
- 37:42SPEAKER_00: Gary Woodland, he won on the PGA tour.
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: Gary is widely regarded as one of the best guys on the PGA tour.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: Seems like he's a friend to everybody, and he's been going through some really tough stuff in his personal life.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: In 2023, he had surgery to remove a tumor in his brain that was causing panic attacks, seizures, and severe anxiety.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: Obviously, really scary stuff.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: The recovery seemed to go pretty well, and he returned to the course in 2024.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: To the outsider, it seems it seemed like everything was on the up and up.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: Had been playing some half-decent golf, kind of getting his feet back under him when a month or so ago he announced that he had been diagnosed with PTSD, which apparently is common with brain surgeries, which I was unaware of, but apparently that's a really common thing that happens post-surger.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: He said every day was a battle and it wasn't always easy living life in public like that while trying to hide it.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: He gave a really emotional interview during the week of the players.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: Everybody's always been behind Gary, but this kind of just takes it to a new level.
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: And then on Sunday, he finally won for the first time since all of this transpired.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: He won the Houston Open.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: The video of him with his wife on the green hugging and crying was by far the best thing I saw this week.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: So shout out to Gary Woodland.
- 38:55SPEAKER_00: And just a reminder of why we love sports.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and the tie full circle.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: Uh, didn't he play college basketball for a year?
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: He did.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: Well, I think he did at a small school, but he went to Kansas, yeah.
- 39:07SPEAKER_00: He transferred to Kansas, yeah.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: And played golf at Kansas, yeah.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: So uh a man of March, congratulations to Gary Woodland.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: And a true diehard Jayhawks fan, too.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: He's been at game sitting courtside, like really getting into it with the ref.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: So we could obviously respect that.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: Doug Schles.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: Please, Gary, take him off my hands.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: Final four ref, by the way.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: Congrats to Doug Shells and making the final four.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: Uh Jeremy, you did mention you did mention the Roger Ayers Dan Hurley incident where Hurley got in uh Roger's face.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: That sums up Hurley in a nutshell.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Just the way he was like bragging to the referee with his eyes about one of his players hitting a game-winning shot.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: He his jacket's half off, and he's just in the ref's face, like almost Frenching him.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: It was absolutely unreal.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: Believe they call that an Eskimo kiss.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: It was a little rubber than nose.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: Hurley's a nut, should have been a tech, but it's probably too normal.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: Like the the the ref probably thought, oh, just Hurley doing his thing.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: It was, it's it's normalized now, so no no issue.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, he's he's a nut.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: I would not want to be uh ever really interact with him.
- 40:15SPEAKER_00: He reminded me of he reminded me of Dwight Schroot when he cuts the uh face off the dummy during the CPR training, and he's doing that that face.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: That's the face he was doing to the ref.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: He just got immediately in the ref's face.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: Also, just one tying of bow on that game.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: The Duke radio broadcast, where they said Malachi Smith should get a technical for running onto the court.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: Hey, bozo, he was in the game during that play.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: This this loser from Duke's crying on the radio.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: I thought it might have been you, Jeremy.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: He's crying on he's crying, saying, Oh my god, Malachi Smith is running on the court.
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: There should be attacked, should be attacked.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: He played the play.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: Duke radio, stick to the script.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: Head coach, contact an official.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: We run with that.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: All right, boys.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: We're going to wrap the show up with a fan favorite segment here.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: It is, Did you see this?
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: It can be sports-related, it can be pop culture related, it could be really anything.
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: We're just going to shoot the shit back and forth, taking turns, offering up things that the others may or may not have seen.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: First up, and did you see this?
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: It's a bit of a depressing one, so I wanted to get it out of the way early.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: And I'm sure you both have seen it already.
- 41:27SPEAKER_00: But did you see that Tiger Woods was involved in yet another car crash?
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: What?
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: Uh this time another suspected DUI.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: It was a single car crash with his Range Rover rolled over in Jupiter Beach.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: I believe he clipped a trailer while trying to pass uh trailer in a residential area, obviously going at pretty crazy speeds to be able to flip over either a Land Rover or a Range Rover.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: I I can't be sure of which, but it's pretty just it's just sad at this point with Tiger.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: He's obviously one of the all-time great athletes, but he pretty clearly has an addiction to pain pills.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: And it's pretty noticeable every time he's doing an interview, how he speaks and how his eyes look.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: And the fact that he continues to get behind vehicles and do these sort of things, it's just it's embarrassing, it's sad, it's all the above.
- 42:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like uh on like a serious note, like you know, you have to think about other people like that you're putting people in at risk uh by you know driving under the influence of you know pain pills or alcohol, whatever the case may be.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: Anyway, uh just hire a driver.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: Like it's completely you have so much money, just hire a driver.
- 42:46SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: He has more money than anyone in the state of Florida, basically, and he continues to get behind the wheel, impaired.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, just be be Miss Daisy.
- 42:59SPEAKER_02: I've never seen that movie.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: Uh uh hasn't a classic reference, but I I've never seen it either.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:05SPEAKER_02: Jeremy, no?
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: I have not, no.
- 43:07SPEAKER_02: I think Morgan Freeman is is the driver of Miss Daisy.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, I I say this jokingly, I guess in a good way, but also seriously.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: Flipping over a car twice when it's your fault, it's pretty bad.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: I don't I feel it it stinks for Ty it stinks for a lot of people, but after the whole thing that happened with Tiger, I guess late 2000s, he's done a pretty good job of just rebranding and like making corrections and whatnot.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: But for me, and I'm not acting like I knew this was coming, there was always something in the back of my head where it's like I it he it I Tiger's just he's just a weird guy, kind of he's just like, how can he like keep this face going as his kids get older, as he really separates from the first incident because of time?
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: And it always seemed like this could possibly happen again.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: I don't really know how.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: How to define that, but unfortunately, it did.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: I'm still surprised, but I mean it just you sort of could see this coming in some ways, in my opinion, just because like he's bigger in some ways in the golf world, he's bigger than life, and it just seemed like a really hard act to like fully recover from the first time from all the changes that have gone through his life, especially with a lot of the house stuff going on, with like the back injuries from golf, and the you know he was still on the pain meds from that, like Sean mentioned.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: So, yeah.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Jared, I think you made a couple good points there, and I'm very sympathetic with him because although it's hard to be sympathetic with someone who's putting other people's lives at risk pretty consistently at this point, he clearly has an addiction that is caused from the pain that he's dealing with.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: And the pain that he's dealing with is almost all largely caused by him being simply addicted to being the best at golf and putting his body through insane things to try to compete at a high level, which there needs to be a bigger conversation of probably like, hey, Tiger, like stop doing that.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: But just a quick timeline of all of his mishaps with vehicles.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: In 2009, he crashed his car into a fire hydrant and a tree outside of his neighbor's property in Florida.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: He was taken to a hospital, no injuries were reported, he was cited for careless driving.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: Then in 2017, he was arrested and charged with a DUI after police found him asleep at the wheel with several pain medications, including Vicodin in his system.
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: That's obviously the most concerning one to that point.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: And then in 2021, Jared, you talked about how it always felt like there was something lingering still, like it never came to a resolution.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: And I think that's because this is when he had the single car crash in California, where he was going 88 miles per hour and I think again fell asleep at the wheel and rolled over his vehicle, almost had to have his leg amputated, and because he had to be air vaced out of the car, they didn't do any tests on him.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: But you could probably assume that there was something going on there as well, and there's never been any public comment on that.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: So there probably was another instance of him abusing drugs and driving again.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: But I think the reason why none of this felt like it was put to bed is because we never got a resolution from that last incident, and now here it is five years later, repeating itself.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's done a good job, like like we've made he's done a really good job with the new um, I forget what it's called, the new league uh in LA, like the simulated golf.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: He's done a good job like branding that and just putting on like a really positive face, I think, for him and for golf as Charlie gets older, as he's in the golf world.
- 46:38SPEAKER_01: He's gotta fix some things though, for sure.
- 46:40SPEAKER_01: And maybe, maybe that means like stopping golf for a significant period of time.
- 46:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like that should not be anywhere near the forefront of his mind, but unfortunately, like we mentioned, the way he's wired, it probably always will be.
- 46:54SPEAKER_00: So I guess that's a good place to leave, Tiger.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: Hopefully that get that whole situation gets better.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: Jeremy, I believe you had something next, and did you see this?
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: Um Caden Boozer, obviously, we know, made the play uh scene around the world.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Uh why he dribbled, why he picked up his dribble.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: We're not gonna get into that.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: He obviously took not obviously, he took interviews after the game, and not the formal interviews where the press conference with the head coach, the microphones.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: Like press got press was able to get into the locker room after a little bit, and they went up to him, to Caden in front of his locker, and took it like a pro, answered questions, straight face, took it seriously.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: Just really impressive.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: I think a lot of like athletes, a lot of people should just watch the video, learn their, you know, during most devastating moments.
- 47:50SPEAKER_01: You know, you have to learn how to lose to and how you know to take accountability for things bigger than just basketball.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: So uh especially in today's NIL world, I think it's impressive that he like stood up to the mic and made the comments.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I should laugh.
- 48:03SPEAKER_02: It's a joke.
- 48:04SPEAKER_02: Medal of honor, maybe presidential medal of freedom.
- 48:07SPEAKER_02: At least the bronze star, right?
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: Like you should at least get a bronze star for that.
- 48:12SPEAKER_00: No one loses like a Duke, man.
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: There's nobody who does it better than Duke.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: Most eventful thing in college basketball when Duke loses, you know that.
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: Uh, Jeremy, I will actually piggyback your point.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: It was it was handled really well by not only Caden, who basically said I cost the team our season, which is tough to hear an 18-year-old kid say, like that's pretty sad.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: Also his brother, he was really good in the press conference as well.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: And I ha I hate to say this, Shane.
- 48:41SPEAKER_00: We talked about how we didn't like Duke.
- 48:43SPEAKER_00: They're a lot less hateable with John Shire in charge.
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: Shire's a pretty likable guy, and he definitely definitely eases some of the hate towards Duke, especially compared to the rat, the former his his old ball coach, Coach K.
- 48:57SPEAKER_00: He was so detestable.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: Shire seems to handle things like a pretty real human, and I thought how Duke did graciously lose after an all-time collapse and buzzer beater.
- 49:07SPEAKER_00: I think that was something to applaud.
- 49:09SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: Uh no, I mean, Shire seems like a good guy, but we can't take joy out of the fact of Duke losing a heartbreaking.
- 49:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, I took joy.
- 49:19SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the world's coming to.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: Uh this is incredible joy.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: This is also coming from the kid who cried when Temple didn't get in the tournament when we were freshmen in college.
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: Shade Doubles.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: Should have been in.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: Uh, you heard the Shiz Austin podcast.
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 49:35SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: Well, should have been in.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: So thank you.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: I actually cried a little bit for that too.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: So I'm not gonna throw shade there.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: You didn't judge Kate Booze or Temple, my team.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: Temple, my team, your team's Bama and dude.
- 49:50SPEAKER_02: Stay on that side.
- 49:51SPEAKER_00: All right, we're gonna transition now to some more light-hearted things.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: This story just came across my desk today when preparing for this segment.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: Have you boys seen, did you see Alec Bohm is suing his parents for three million dollars for mismanaging his finances?
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: This is the Philly's third baseman for those listening at home that might not be familiar with a guy who's relatively a bum.
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: And if you're not a Philly sports fan, you might not know who he is.
- 50:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, I can't believe he's made three million dollars and he's suing his parents.
- 50:20SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm stunned by this development.
- 50:22SPEAKER_00: Does anybody have any details?
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: Yes, very, very lighthearted.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: Uh no, I mean, it is it is wild.
- 50:30SPEAKER_02: Uh I honestly I'm curious about the details too.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, our resident journalist Jeremy has gotten to the bottom of this.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: Um, I know it has to do with his signing bonus.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: I know it has to do with his signing bonus.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: He got like a five point something million dollar signing bonus, and apparently three million of it up and vanished.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: What did they spend the money?
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, listen, I I I have not gotten uh to the desk for this story yet, but uh it sounds like his parents had three million dollars.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: They were using it like for good uh for like related to Alec Bone stuff, and then apparently they took the three million and they just spent it on themselves.
- 51:06SPEAKER_01: Uh I know Bone hit arbitration and won arbitration in 2024, but that wasn't for much money.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: He hasn't really made much money yet.
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: He really becomes a free agent for the first time after this season.
- 51:18SPEAKER_01: He hasn't been playing great baseball either, so I don't think he's gonna make that much money.
- 51:21SPEAKER_00: So well, Chair, that was my that was my point.
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: I said I don't hate it from the parents' point of view.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: If they're Philly diehards, I kind of like that.
- 51:29SPEAKER_00: It's a little uh carrot in the stick.
- 51:32SPEAKER_00: He's he's in a contract year.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: Listen, he hasn't gotten paid yet, he hasn't made any big bucks.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: Make him earn it on the field.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 51:39SPEAKER_00: Take what he has, make him hungry.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: Hungry dogs run faster, as you boys know.
- 51:43SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't hate a few more hits at Alec Bohm trying to get his first payday.
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: I I have a question for for cousin Jeremy.
- 51:50SPEAKER_02: Uh you will likely breed just a phenomenal athlete.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: Uh, and let's say that that the athlete that you breed uh turns out to be a professional athlete and makes millions upon millions of dollars, yes, and offers you some.
- 52:08SPEAKER_02: You don't steal it like Bohm's parents, allegedly.
- 52:11SPEAKER_02: Uh but your athlete, son or daughter, gives you a bunch of money.
- 52:18SPEAKER_02: What are you spending?
- 52:19SPEAKER_01: Um putting it in stocks, you know, you gotta put some in stocks, but maybe you're aggressive with some of the stocks.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: Buy a house, buy a car, buy a boat, maybe do a little vacation and invite my guys, Sean Boyle and Shane Doug.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: We all eat, we all eat in that situation, so we go on vacation.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: You know, probably like if they gives me some, you know, or she, you never know, which sport, but uh uh yeah, I'll go uh house for sure.
- 52:47SPEAKER_00: Well, let's stick to trying to grow the podcast.
- 52:49SPEAKER_00: And in just in case Jeremy's kid isn't a star athlete, we'll try to find other means to success and maybe a boat.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: Emphasis on just in case.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Just in case.
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, next up, and did you see this?
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: This is a wild one.
- 53:03SPEAKER_00: A hundred million dollars worth of cocaine was seized in a large banana shipment in the United Kingdom at the Southampton docks, reminiscent of the wire season two with Nick and Ziggy.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: We're in the docks, and we got a drug bust.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: What fruit would you guys attempt to transport your cocaine in?
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: Sean, I'll go with uh cantaloupe.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: One, it's a grapefruit.
- 53:28SPEAKER_01: Two, no one's gonna expect it.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: No one, no, everyone leaves cantaloupe alone.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: So not what do you mean grapefruit?
- 53:38SPEAKER_01: It's grapefruit, it's fruit.
- 53:41SPEAKER_01: Not a grapefruit.
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: No, no, I mean it's fine.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: It's a fine fruit.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: It's not a good fruit.
- 53:45SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: It doesn't taste great.
- 53:48SPEAKER_00: No, you know what cantaloupe does?
- 53:50SPEAKER_00: It absorbs the taste of the fruit it's around.
- 53:52SPEAKER_00: And whatever fruit it's sitting next to on a platter, that's what it begins to taste like.
- 53:56SPEAKER_00: It doesn't have an identity of its own.
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: Well, listen, brother, you're going too far.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: You can buy cantaloupe at Trader Joe's$2.49,$2.99.
- 54:05SPEAKER_01: You just cut it open, you slice it like a watermelon, eat it like that.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: You don't uh, you know, that's I love that.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: Um, if it's not in season, you're right.
- 54:13SPEAKER_01: It's not it's not a great fruit, but like in season, oh my god.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: You just said it was a great fruit.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: Out of season, it's like it's it's not season chain, of course.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: Listen.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Jeremy, I've only cantalope.
- 54:24SPEAKER_02: One's cantaloupe season, Jeremy.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: Uh summer.
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: You don't see those in the winter.
- 54:31SPEAKER_00: No.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: But Jeremy, my argument would be for the same price at Trader Joe's, I would much rather find my way into a pineapple or mango.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: You could do both.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: Do all three.
- 54:45unknown: Sure.
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: Whether it's peanut butter, uh like the milk chocolate or dark chocolate peanut butter, uh like chocolate peanut butter cup things.
- 54:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, those are lethal.
- 54:57SPEAKER_00: How are you uh smuggling your coke?
- 55:00SPEAKER_02: Uh yes, I'm gonna go with uh my favorite fruit, which is good old Welch's fruit snacks.
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: Um, stink too.
- 55:13SPEAKER_00: They stink.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: No, they're not.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: What are you talking about?
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: No.
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: Not a good fruit snack.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: Are you a Mott's guy?
- 55:19SPEAKER_00: No, uh uh I am a Mott's guy because I think Mott's is the Scooby-Doo type.
- 55:23SPEAKER_00: And those are the only good fruit snacks.
- 55:26SPEAKER_01: What's your favorite color?
- 55:31SPEAKER_00: What's that?
- 55:32SPEAKER_01: What's your favorite Scooby-Doo uh snack color?
- 55:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, that blue one.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, blue one.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 55:43SPEAKER_02: You know, it it does it could be any fruit snack, it could be Scooby snacks, even even moths uh or Welches.
- 55:49SPEAKER_02: That's gonna be my own.
- 55:51SPEAKER_00: I was harsh on Welches.
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't hate them yet, they're not bad.
- 55:55SPEAKER_02: Um, but like it comes in a bag, so you just put the drugs in the bag along with the fruit snacks, get hungry, have a couple fruit snacks.
- 56:03SPEAKER_02: Because if you if you let's say you cut up in a cantaloupe with drugs in there.
- 56:08SPEAKER_02: It's a little suspicious.
- 56:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well if you have a bunch of bags of fruit snacks you know, it that's it's just a better mode of transport.
- 56:19SPEAKER_01: Well, you're also a child killer because who eats fruit snacks?
- 56:23SPEAKER_01: Kids.
- 56:24SPEAKER_01: They're what if you send that shipment off to Acme killing kids.
- 56:28SPEAKER_00: Jared's worried about them getting loose and in the in into the public.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: Great fruit fact.
- 56:36SPEAKER_01: Great fruit fact.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: Uh I would go with a coconut.
- 56:39SPEAKER_00: I feel like that's perfect for coke.
- 56:41SPEAKER_00: Gets lost in the white stuff.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: I feel like a coconut.
- 56:45SPEAKER_00: It's it's in the name.
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: It's really in the name for me.
- 56:47SPEAKER_00: We would have a problem with the cutting open of the coconut.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: But I think if we just could load up coke in any one fruit, I would take coconut.
- 56:57SPEAKER_02: Have you ever cut open a coconut?
- 56:59SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 57:00SPEAKER_02: I have not.
- 57:00SPEAKER_02: I have not.
- 57:01SPEAKER_02: Is it challenging?
- 57:03SPEAKER_00: Uh no, it's just it's just a little you have to be a little careful with it.
- 57:07SPEAKER_00: You can't be you can't just chop into it like most easy to handle fruits.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: I think uh coconut and pineapple both, you have to watch what you're doing a little bit.
- 57:16SPEAKER_02: You got like machete?
- 57:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you need a serious knife, too.
- 57:20SPEAKER_02: Something sharp.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 57:23SPEAKER_00: Jeremy, why don't you wrap us up with the last did you see this?
- 57:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, this was actually mine.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, Shaney bringing one of the tables on.
- 57:30SPEAKER_02: So, in preparation for the podcast, uh cramming for the test right before uh we hopped on here, I Googled craziest news stories of the week.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: And the first result, uh, and I will read it to everyone, Dayton Weber, a 27-year-old quadruple amputee and professional corn home player, was arrested for allegedly shooting a man in a car.
- 57:57SPEAKER_02: Um so did you see that?
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: So, Shane, I did not see this, but in one of the group texts I'm in with some friends from back home, they were talking about this.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: And Bert Robert Toney, who's a very good cornhole player, he has given us the scouting report on this guy.
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: He said he's quote nasty at cornhole.
- 58:17SPEAKER_00: And Bert's pretty good himself.
- 58:19SPEAKER_00: So if this guy's nasty, I can only imagine what he's capable of.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: I don't know how he throws it back.
- 58:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, are we talking like uh or shoots a guy for that for that matter?
- 58:27SPEAKER_02: Where's the amputation?
- 58:28SPEAKER_02: Like, are we talking at the elbow?
- 58:30SPEAKER_02: Because if it's you know above the elbow, that's gonna be tough.
- 58:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I guess it depends on like the elbow.
- 58:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the dynamics of the knob.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: I saw a video.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: They kind of like this will be great for the podcast, for an audio podcast.
- 58:44SPEAKER_01: He like takes his arms, or I don't know.
- 58:48SPEAKER_01: Oh, so he beats him at the elbows.
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 58:50SPEAKER_01: That's what I that's what it looked like from the video.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: Also, apparently there's video of him shooting a gun.
- 58:55SPEAKER_00: There, not the gun that killed him, but apparently he was training.
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: So there's videos out there of him going to like a firing range weeks before the shooting.
- 59:06SPEAKER_02: Jesus Christ.
- 59:07SPEAKER_00: I must know how to shoot a gun.
- 59:10SPEAKER_00: I know, me too.
- 59:10SPEAKER_00: How does he load it?
- 59:15SPEAKER_00: He buys them preloaded.
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: They're preloaded.
- 59:19SPEAKER_02: I mean, he he's just yeah, I mean, imagine back in the day with like good old-fashioned musket where you have to put the gunpowder in.
- 59:26SPEAKER_02: That's that's impossible.
- 59:27SPEAKER_02: But now I guess he grew up in the right time.
- 59:30SPEAKER_02: Um they have the automatic uh handguns.
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: Alright, anyway.
- 59:35SPEAKER_02: Jesus.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: That's all I got.
- 59:37SPEAKER_00: Uh I think we're all on the same page.
- 59:40SPEAKER_00: Dayton Weber is uh pretty interesting fella.
- 59:46SPEAKER_00: Not a bad guy.
- 59:47SPEAKER_00: Uh do you boys have any recommendations as we wrap up the show?
- 59:51SPEAKER_01: I did some research.
- 59:52SPEAKER_01: I went through the archives, and I really found nothing.
- 59:56SPEAKER_01: But you know, there's there's baseball, golf.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_01: I I I got nothing.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, there is, I will say, there is a movie coming out, I think this summer, called Pressure, and it's about the Americans invading Normandy.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_02: I did see that.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_01: Which is very weather.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_02: It looked sorry, Shane about the weather, because D-Day is supposed to be about the complexity.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it looks awesome.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_01: Looks like good acting, at least from the trailer.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_02: Actually, speaking of movies, the new Ryan Gosling movie, uh, which I forget the name of, my brother said that.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_02: Project Hail Mary.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_00: Project Hail Mary, yeah.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_00: I've heard good things too.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen it yet.
- 1:00:38unknown: Yeah.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_02: Got the Odyssey movie coming out this summer as well.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_00: That's what I was gonna bring up, Shane.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_00: The summer could be really strong for movies because Odyssey is the one I've had circled since it was announced.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_00: It's Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon, Ann Hathaway, Tom Holland.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's it's made for me that movie.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_00: So I'm I cannot be more excited about a movie.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_00: Uh, the only things I had this week, what a week for Tiny Desk.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure if you guys are Tiny Desk concert watchers, but that's one of my favorite little corners of the internet.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_00: I think we had one of the best weeks in the history of the channel.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_00: We had Camp and Mumford and Sons back-to-back Fridays.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_00: Both were remarkable.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_00: And then also on the music front, I just wanted to shout out Ray.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_00: She put out a new album.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_00: Shane, I actually think you'd like it.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_00: It's kind of pop, but there's some classical music, like orientation orchestral stuff in there that I think you'd like.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_00: She's got a great voice, too.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_00: But she sings that Where the Hell is My Husband song.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that one.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, Captain My Captain.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_02: I listened to what you tell me to.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_00: Check out Ray.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_02: There's another one you had, right?
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: The Oh, Baby Nova.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_00: Good, you good.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_00: I forgot about her.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_00: Thank you for bringing her up.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm not sure when that album came out.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_00: I know it was pretty it was 2026, but I heard it for the first time this past week.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: Baby Nova.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_00: Her album is called Sugar.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_00: And it is S-H-H H U G A R.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_00: Sugar by Baby Nova.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_00: So another good album to keep out, keep on the lookout for.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_00: Boys, appreciate you hopping on.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_00: This was fun.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_02: Till next time.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, we've got some variety in here.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_02: Uh I can't commit to any more podcasts with Jeremy Good.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_02: I just I just don't know if I can do it.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_02: Uh go enjoy some cannon work, Jeremy.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_00: Well, for the listeners, a little bit of a peek behind the curtain.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_00: We'll obviously be back next week to talk about NCA tournament, and then we have a couple of Masters themed episodes coming for you.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_00: I'm recording one with Michael Collins, which is just a deep dive into Augusta, and then I'll probably be doing one with him and Mike Blum, which will serve as a preview for the tournament itself.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_00: But then after that, we are entering draft season.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_00: So they're gonna come hot and heavy.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be music-based, it's gonna be draft-based, album reviews, things of that nature, because sports are gonna be dead in our minds until pretty much October.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: So the podcast is going to shift a bit towards a little bit of sports talk, but a lot of pop culture, a lot of music.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_00: So that's where we're heading.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_01: I feel like it's been a bit now that I'm on the same time as Shane, and all I can say is, I love it.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_01: Keep it going, Sean.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: A package deal, the cousins, thank you both.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_00: Listeners, until next time, take care.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_00: By the merch.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_00: By the merch.
