- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's happened? Everybody? Welcome into another edition of the
- 0:13Speaker 1: check O Deli. It's Andrew de Checko, Eagles beat reporter
- 0:17Speaker 1: for insidethirds dot Com. And for the next two days
- 0:20Speaker 1: I'm going to do podcasts where on the first day
- 0:24Speaker 1: we outline my biggest issue with the offense, what I
- 0:28Speaker 1: perceive it to be, and then on Tuesday, the podcast
- 0:31Speaker 1: that comes out will be what I perceive to be
- 0:33Speaker 1: the biggest issue on defense. Now, on offense, there's a
- 0:38Speaker 1: lot of areas that you can point to, certainly offensive
- 0:42Speaker 1: coordinator Kevin Patulo. He's the new face, the new ingredient
- 0:46Speaker 1: to this formula, and it hasn't been pretty and he
- 0:50Speaker 1: does warrant some criticism though he's a little bit further
- 0:53Speaker 1: down full transparency in the pecking order if you're going
- 0:56Speaker 1: to assign blame the way that I see it. But yes,
- 1:00Speaker 1: it hasn't been imaginative. It's been very stale. It looks
- 1:04Speaker 1: to be basic at times, predictable, if you want to
- 1:07Speaker 1: use that word. But you're not seeing anybody progress or
- 1:11Speaker 1: develop under him. And I think it's more than anything
- 1:15Speaker 1: sequencing and feel for calling plays. I've said it before,
- 1:20Speaker 1: it's an art not a science. I've been a big
- 1:23Speaker 1: defender of Kevin Patullo because I think he's I think
- 1:27Speaker 1: a little bit. I think folks are a little too
- 1:30Speaker 1: strong in their assessment of him, and it seems like
- 1:36Speaker 1: everyone is inclined to point the finger solely at Kevin Petullo,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and I don't think that's you're not taking everything into account.
- 1:45Speaker 1: There's a lot of layers as to why the offense
- 1:47Speaker 1: isn't performing to standard, but that's just one of the issues.
- 1:51Speaker 1: You can look at the play of Jalen Hurts as
- 1:53Speaker 1: something that has increasingly become a little bit more magnified
- 1:59Speaker 1: when the offense isn't performing.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Hey, one thing that always scares me is the latest
- 2:03Speaker 2: financial scam. And with the holidays, it's all about finding
- 2:06Speaker 2: the perfect gift, but this time of the year, not
- 2:09Speaker 2: every deal is actually what it seems. You've got these
- 2:12Speaker 2: scammers getting more creative to trick people into sharing their
- 2:15Speaker 2: payment info through methods like fake shopping sites and giveaways.
- 2:19Speaker 2: You know they're too good to be true. Luckily, cash

- 2:38Speaker 2: of mind. Gotta stay one step ahead of these scammers

- 3:16Speaker 1: There's missed opportunities left on the field. There's ball placement issues.
- 3:21Speaker 1: So you're looking and this isn't all the time, but
- 3:23Speaker 1: there are instances where ball placement is clearly an issue.
- 3:27Speaker 1: On those intermediate routes. In particular, you're not putting in
- 3:30Speaker 1: it a place where receivers can get yards after the catch,
- 3:33Speaker 1: and perhaps more than anything, he's holding the ball for
- 3:36Speaker 1: far too long. And that's something that it doesn't get
- 3:40Speaker 1: you till it gets you, as he'll say, But there
- 3:43Speaker 1: have been a lot of times where he is hesitant
- 3:45Speaker 1: to pull the trigger, maybe not trusting what he's seeing.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Who knows, I'm not a quarterback, I'm not a coach.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I'm not going to sit here and speculate as to why.
- 3:54Speaker 1: But that's just very evident watching jywhen Hurst every single week,
- 3:59Speaker 1: and as someone who touches the ball on every play,
- 4:02Speaker 1: as someone who is the leader of that side of
- 4:05Speaker 1: the football, as someone who is a reigning Super Bowl MVP,
- 4:08Speaker 1: expectations are noticeably or they're going to be understandably high.
- 4:13Speaker 1: And he's a very good quarterback and has played at
- 4:16Speaker 1: such a high level. But if you're looking at the
- 4:19Speaker 1: offense in his totality and you're trying to assess where
- 4:24Speaker 1: things are going wrong, he has a hand in that,
- 4:26Speaker 1: just like Kevin Petullo. Just like the next aspect on
- 4:30Speaker 1: this list, which is the offensive line. The offensive line
- 4:34Speaker 1: has been banged up all season and they haven't been
- 4:37Speaker 1: able to generate that push up front all season. For
- 4:41Speaker 1: most of the season. There's been moments, but it hasn't
- 4:44Speaker 1: been the style of dominance that we've grown accustomed to
- 4:48Speaker 1: seeing under Jeff Stealin, even under Nick Siriani and the
- 4:52Speaker 1: offensive line. We talked a lot about Saquon Barkley and
- 4:56Speaker 1: how maybe that volume of touches affect him this season
- 5:01Speaker 1: four hundred and eighty two touches including the postseason. I
- 5:04Speaker 1: outline that a lot, but it's for a reason because
- 5:08Speaker 1: a lot of the conversation this offseason stemmed from what was, say,
- 5:12Speaker 1: Kwon Barkley going to look like in year two after getting,
- 5:15Speaker 1: you know, rewarded for the big season that he had.
- 5:18Speaker 1: And I don't think that he looks any different to
- 5:21Speaker 1: me than he does last year. He still has the
- 5:24Speaker 1: same traits and characteristics, the acceleration, the power. He runs
- 5:28Speaker 1: extremely physically to grind out those tough yards.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. And if you have a family
- 5:34Speaker 2: and kids at home, like me, you always want them
- 5:37Speaker 2: to be fully protected. That's why I'm thrilled to be
- 5:39Speaker 2: a simply safe customer. In our house is equipped with
- 5:42Speaker 2: the most technologically advanced alarm system you can get. If
- 5:46Speaker 2: you could actually stop someone from breaking into your home
- 5:48Speaker 2: before they got inside. Why wouldn't you. Traditional security systems
- 5:52Speaker 2: only react after a break in, but simply safe is
- 5:55Speaker 2: different because it stops crimes before they happen. With active
- 6:00Speaker 2: guard outdoor protection. They're AI powered cameras detect threats while
- 6:04Speaker 2: they're still outside your home, and they alert real security agents.
- 6:08Speaker 2: These agents take action while the intruder is still outside
- 6:12Speaker 2: and confront the intruder to let them know they're being
- 6:14Speaker 2: watched on camera and police is on the way. And
- 6:17Speaker 2: that's how you stop a crime before it's committed. There's

- 6:40Speaker 2: That's sixty percent off their new simply safe system. Simplysafe
- 6:44Speaker 2: dot com slash birds simplysafe dot com slash birds.
- 6:47Speaker 1: There's no saint like simply Safe, and I think that
- 6:51Speaker 1: you can look at other areas of his game where
- 6:54Speaker 1: their things aren't coming nearly as easy as they happen
- 6:57Speaker 1: to come last year, and those wide creases that he
- 7:02Speaker 1: could just run through untouched, He's getting hit at the
- 7:06Speaker 1: line of scrimmage more often than not this season before
- 7:09Speaker 1: he ever gets time to really generate some momentum moving forward.
- 7:14Speaker 1: There is also a play and I know I'm a
- 7:16Speaker 1: little bit all over the place here, but things are
- 7:18Speaker 1: starting to come to me as we're talking about this subject.
- 7:20Speaker 1: But that fifteen yard run that he had against the Bears,
- 7:24Speaker 1: he probably house calls that last season. But I think
- 7:28Speaker 1: he looks to be the same player, And I don't
- 7:31Speaker 1: view that extraordinarily hefty workload that he had last year
- 7:36Speaker 1: as something that has been a detriment to him this season.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I just don't see it. He says he's the same guy,
- 7:42Speaker 1: he says he's healthy. I think that there are times
- 7:45Speaker 1: where when you're used to seeing a lot of production
- 7:49Speaker 1: and things just happen to occur so easily with that
- 7:52Speaker 1: offensive line carving out truck size holes and you're ripping
- 7:56Speaker 1: off sixty seventy yard runs on a regular basis and
- 8:00Speaker 1: week out, and then this year it's tough sledding this year.
- 8:04Speaker 1: You have to rely on patience and vision, and I
- 8:07Speaker 1: think with that you can see that there are times
- 8:11Speaker 1: where Saquon Barkley is pressing. That's evident to me watching
- 8:15Speaker 1: it on whether you're watching it on TV, whether you're
- 8:18Speaker 1: watching the coaches tape, whether you're watching it in the
- 8:20Speaker 1: press box. Because things aren't there, you press and you
- 8:24Speaker 1: try to hit a home run on every carry instead
- 8:27Speaker 1: of taking what's in front of you and taking the
- 8:29Speaker 1: four or five yard pickup and churning forward and keeping
- 8:33Speaker 1: the offense on schedule. But from a larger perspective here,
- 8:37Speaker 1: I view the biggest issue on offense to be the
- 8:40Speaker 1: running game, because that's what everything plays off of.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 8:49Speaker 2: long lines, We've all been there. But when it comes
- 8:52Speaker 2: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 8:56Speaker 2: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes out outside of Philly,

- 9:30Speaker 2: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 9:34Speaker 2: service members, and healthcare pros. Camdn Apothecary top quality cannabis,
- 9:40Speaker 2: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 9:43Speaker 2: one and up.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Foundationally, Nick Siriani wants this to be a run first
- 9:48Speaker 1: offense where you lean on the running back, you take
- 9:51Speaker 1: advantage of what has been the league's best offensive line,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and you pick your spots in the passing game. Take
- 9:59Speaker 1: you look for explo in the passing game, push the
- 10:01Speaker 1: ball down the field, but it's not the primary focus
- 10:05Speaker 1: of the offense. So the run sets up the pass.
- 10:08Speaker 1: In an ideal world, That's how Nick Sirianni views this offense.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Those are his principles and ideologies, and he believes you
- 10:17Speaker 1: protect the football, you run the football, and then that
- 10:21Speaker 1: sets up the pass. That's the way that he views it.
- 10:23Speaker 1: In the most simplistic sort of summary that I can
- 10:28Speaker 1: provide here. And this is not ever going to be
- 10:32Speaker 1: a high volume passing attack under Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts.
- 10:36Speaker 1: That's just not going to happen. That's not how it's
- 10:38Speaker 1: intended to run. This is the way that Nick Sirianni
- 10:41Speaker 1: wants the offense to run. And when you're not able
- 10:45Speaker 1: to run the football, all of a sudden, it puts
- 10:46Speaker 1: a spotlight on everything else. Everything becomes a lot harder.
- 10:51Speaker 1: It almost looks like you're laboring down the field because
- 10:53Speaker 1: guess what, that's not what this team is designed to do.
- 10:58Speaker 1: A lot of eggs were put into the Saquon Barkley
- 11:01Speaker 1: offensive line basket, and then the work show in other
- 11:05Speaker 1: aspects of the offense when you're not able to execute
- 11:09Speaker 1: in the running game. And this is where you can
- 11:12Speaker 1: see the issues in timing, ball placement. I go back
- 11:17Speaker 1: to the ball placement thing because that has revealed itself
- 11:20Speaker 1: on different occasions. Hesitant to pool the trigger. What you
- 11:24Speaker 1: see then, from a play calling and a play design standpoint,
- 11:28Speaker 1: you're seeing routes that don't seem to be synchronized. Two
- 11:33Speaker 1: players in the same area running routes that can't happen.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You need to have more variance in those routes. But
- 11:41Speaker 1: when you're struggling from that perspective, and you're struggling from
- 11:45Speaker 1: a passing game perspective where Jaywin hasn't been in a
- 11:47Speaker 1: rhythm as of late, that's why I think the running game,
- 11:52Speaker 1: because everything stems from that. I think that is the
- 11:56Speaker 1: biggest issue on offense. And if they had that running game,
- 12:00Speaker 1: not even to the degree that they had it last season,
- 12:04Speaker 1: a lot of these conversations wouldn't be had about Patullo,
- 12:08Speaker 1: about Jalen, about Nick Sirianni, because the offense would be
- 12:13Speaker 1: humming along just like it was designed to do. But
- 12:16Speaker 1: now that that's not there, obviously that hasn't been the case.
- 12:19Speaker 1: So that to me is the biggest issue. As I
- 12:22Speaker 1: continue to say and have said all season, it's not
- 12:26Speaker 1: solely Kevin Petullo. There are different components, and we outline
- 12:32Speaker 1: some of them here, but all of them that I
- 12:34Speaker 1: can think of off the top of my head that
- 12:36Speaker 1: are sort of baked in that make up the stew
- 12:40Speaker 1: of what has been a lethargic and uninspired offensive performance
- 12:44Speaker 1: for the better part of the season.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Hey I still like a good night out, but I'm
- 12:49Speaker 2: not always in the mood to drink, and that's why
- 12:52Speaker 2: I looked for a great alternative, and I found one.

- 14:16Speaker 1: The Eagles have an extended period here to go back
- 14:19Speaker 1: to the drawing board. Maybe you add some wrinkles, maybe
- 14:21Speaker 1: you make some changes, Maybe you try to find something
- 14:25Speaker 1: to generate a spark to head this thing in the
- 14:28Speaker 1: right direction and finish the season on a high note
- 14:31Speaker 1: unlike twenty twenty three, and you want to go into
- 14:34Speaker 1: the postseason with you know, firing on all cylinders. So
- 14:38Speaker 1: this is going to be a tough game in LA
- 14:41Speaker 1: going to the West coast and playing. We'll see what
- 14:44Speaker 1: happens with Justin Herbert. He injured his non throwing hand
- 14:48Speaker 1: and I believe he had surgery or today, So we'll
- 14:53Speaker 1: try and see what the updates look like for that.
- 14:55Speaker 1: But if he plays, it's going to be a tough game.
- 14:58Speaker 1: If he doesn't play, you'll see Trey Lance there at quarterback.
- 15:02Speaker 1: But the Eagles do have a couple of games against
- 15:04Speaker 1: the Commanders. They played pretty well on Sunday Night football.
- 15:07Speaker 1: The Eagles are a better football team, but if they
- 15:11Speaker 1: continue to turn the football over and fail to execute
- 15:16Speaker 1: from an offensive standpoint, there's only you know, any team
- 15:19Speaker 1: can beat any team. I think what we've seen this
- 15:22Speaker 1: year in the NFL is there hasn't been a team
- 15:24Speaker 1: that has stood head and shoulders above the pack above
- 15:29Speaker 1: the NFL, and I think it's anyone's It's anyone's game
- 15:33Speaker 1: right now. Things are interesting. The Chicago Bears with the
- 15:36Speaker 1: top seed, you have the Rams, and you have the Eagles.
- 15:40Speaker 1: But the Seahawks, they're a pretty damn good football team,
- 15:43Speaker 1: so it's gonna get really interesting here. The Dallas Cowboys
- 15:47Speaker 1: are playing tremendous football right now, and I think they're
- 15:51Speaker 1: starting to hit their stride. They have a big game
- 15:53Speaker 1: Thursday night against the Lions. So there is a lot
- 15:56Speaker 1: at play here over the next month of the season,
- 16:00Speaker 1: and I'm really looking forward to seeing how all these
- 16:03Speaker 1: puzzle pieces fit into the equation. But going back to
- 16:08Speaker 1: the original point, the biggest issue on offense from my perceptive.
- 16:12Speaker 1: From my perspective is the lack of a running game,
- 16:17Speaker 1: because that caused a ripple effect to other areas and
- 16:21Speaker 1: put a spotlight on everything else. So something to think about. Tomorrow,
- 16:27Speaker 1: as I mentioned, I will be revealing my biggest issue
- 16:31Speaker 1: from a defensive standpoint. But for now, that's going to
- 16:34Speaker 1: do it for this edition of a check o'daly. It's
- 16:36Speaker 1: Andrew to checko here and I will catch you on
- 16:39Speaker 1: the next one.
