- 0:54Speaker 6: day here at Radio Row. Starting to really heat up
- 0:57Speaker 6: here at ten o'clock in the morning Pacific time. I
- 1:00Speaker 6: know it's one o'clock back home, and we're gonna get
- 1:04Speaker 6: at it today. Okay, we got a lot to talk about. Yeah,
- 1:08Speaker 6: let's get after it.
- 1:09Speaker 4: I feel like I've hit my stride this morning. Fred.
- 1:11Speaker 8: Maybe it was because I had a good night sleep
- 1:13Speaker 8: last night, but I've adjusted the time and it's just
- 1:16Speaker 8: it continues to increase in population here inside the Scony Center,
- 1:21Speaker 8: and it's crazy. Everywhere you turn your head there's just
- 1:24Speaker 8: an NFL Hall of Famer. It's Oh, there's Emmat Smith
- 1:26Speaker 8: and Jerry Rice hugging it out. Oh wow, not right now.
- 1:29Speaker 8: Sorry that was earlier, but I was just recalling.
- 1:32Speaker 4: You got me there, well, Jerry Rice did just watch
- 1:34Speaker 4: Jerry Rice. Jerry Rice.
- 1:35Speaker 8: I'm kind of over Jerry Rice, to be honest. I've
- 1:37Speaker 8: seen him so much this morning. But you know, Aiden Hutchinson,
- 1:41Speaker 8: I walked by him. He's a giant dude. I didn't
- 1:43Speaker 8: realize he's as big as he is. So just a
- 1:45Speaker 8: lot of people watching. I think that's what makes these
- 1:47Speaker 8: shows go so fast.
- 1:48Speaker 4: That while we were doing it.
- 1:49Speaker 6: But so far, the biggest crowd was around Kirk Kirk
- 1:52Speaker 6: Street's dog.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Yes, a well groomed dog.
- 1:55Speaker 6: I would say, very handsome, great tail, yeah great, very
- 1:57Speaker 6: handsome dog.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 6: So it's it's pretty crazy. Lots going on. We'll have
- 2:03Speaker 6: some guests. I know what, ted Carris is gonna stop.
- 2:06Speaker 8: By Teddy one of the greats, one of the all
- 2:09Speaker 8: time locker room greats.
- 2:09Speaker 4: I'd say, am I limited time here? Yep?
- 2:12Speaker 6: We'll have a special kid reporter from Panini. Uh stop by.
- 2:17Speaker 6: She's covering the Patriots or he's covered. I don't know
- 2:19Speaker 6: if it's is it.
- 2:20Speaker 4: A boy or a girl?
- 2:20Speaker 9: So I don't know. We'll find out it's a boy.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Okay, do we know scraps boy, oh boy, gonna have.
- 2:27Speaker 6: A gender gender reveal right here.
- 2:32Speaker 4: It's a boy off the rails quickly today. That's great.
- 2:37Speaker 4: That's how we like it. That's how we like it.
- 2:38Speaker 6: It's uh well eight five five PATS five hundred is
- 2:41Speaker 6: the hotline podcast at Patriots dot com is the email address,
- 2:46Speaker 6: and uh so, uh the big thing that everyone's talking
- 2:52Speaker 6: about now right now is Tom Brady. Yeah, continues Tom
- 2:56Speaker 6: Brady just say he doesn't have a dog in the fight,
- 3:00Speaker 6: and people are upset. I mean Robert Splaine, who I
- 3:05Speaker 6: don't know why he cares, you know, but he says
- 3:09Speaker 6: what does he say? It makes him sick to hear that.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I didn't see that. I didn't see that one really
- 3:13Speaker 4: in fact, came out this morning.
- 3:14Speaker 8: I know Bruski came out hard and supportive of his
- 3:16Speaker 8: old teammate Mike Rabel as well. So a lot of
- 3:19Speaker 8: places around here are using that as a you know,
- 3:21Speaker 8: a springboard to ask about that, and.
- 3:23Speaker 6: Yeah, and then I think, uh, you know Portnoy who
- 3:27Speaker 6: he did our our schedule release, remember that he was
- 3:31Speaker 6: spot on. As it turns out, everything he said happened.
- 3:34Speaker 6: But he's he's like, all right, he wants us to
- 3:37Speaker 6: move on. We're gonna move on. This is BS. So
- 3:41Speaker 6: I don't know what's going on. I I you know,
- 3:43Speaker 6: I would love it if if you want, we're on
- 3:46Speaker 6: the air. Okay, he's gonna walk right in front of him. Yeah,
- 3:51Speaker 6: I would love it if he wanted to call into
- 3:53Speaker 6: the show and we could talk Tom. Yeah, like, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 6: I'm sure he hasn't.
- 3:59Speaker 9: What's that you lead him on? A put him on
- 4:01Speaker 9: the couch.
- 4:02Speaker 6: I you know, we could talk to him and say, Tom,
- 4:04Speaker 6: what's going on here?
- 4:05Speaker 4: Like why? What is happening? What you know? Who hurt you?
- 4:08Speaker 4: Who hurt you?
- 4:08Speaker 6: And we think we know?
- 4:10Speaker 8: But yeah, yeah, Well do you think it's Saturday? Do
- 4:12Speaker 8: you think it's just been playing politics and trying to
- 4:14Speaker 8: like stay down the middle and not you know, do
- 4:16Speaker 8: anything to rock the boat of an.
- 4:18Speaker 9: I think you nailed it, Mike.
- 4:19Speaker 6: Yeah, he has to. He's a he's an. He works
- 4:23Speaker 6: for Fox, Uh doing the games. He's part owner of
- 4:26Speaker 6: another team. Uh, that's just for starters. So I think
- 4:31Speaker 6: he wants to be above above it all.
- 4:34Speaker 4: But I don't know.
- 4:35Speaker 8: Yeah, I saw Bill Simmons do a little walk and
- 4:37Speaker 8: talk to I thought he laid it out pretty well
- 4:39Speaker 8: and you know, just to say you need to maybe
- 4:41Speaker 8: send a message to Patriot fans how much you appreciate them,
- 4:44Speaker 8: and maybe that you do want the Patriots to win.
- 4:46Speaker 8: But I get why he's playing politics that well.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll leave that one to the side.
- 4:52Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 4:53Speaker 6: So but I don't know what what people think about that,
- 4:55Speaker 6: but it's it to me. It's sad because I had
- 4:59Speaker 6: this picture of of you know, Craft and Brady and
- 5:03Speaker 6: Belichick and everybody just riding off into the sunset and
- 5:06Speaker 6: enjoying what they did together and each being at the
- 5:09Speaker 6: other's all of Hall of Fame induction. I tried to
- 5:12Speaker 6: you know, kumbayah and you know get togethers and all
- 5:17Speaker 6: that is.
- 5:17Speaker 10: Just it's kind of simple, like I just don't think
- 5:21Speaker 10: he ever cared as much as you did. Yeah, it's
- 5:24Speaker 10: one of those, you know, And and it doesn't mean
- 5:27Speaker 10: that he's a bad guy.
- 5:28Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 5:28Speaker 10: I don't need to make any personal attacks, you know.
- 5:31Speaker 10: I think Mike, we were talking about this a little
- 5:33Speaker 10: yesterday and you were like, you weren't really all that
- 5:35Speaker 10: bothered by it. Fred's a little bit more bothered. I said,
- 5:37Speaker 10: I was kind of in the middle, and I just
- 5:40Speaker 10: feel like he was tremendous. He's a tremendous player, But
- 5:45Speaker 10: I don't think that he had that connection and affection
- 5:48Speaker 10: for the area ever.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Ever.
- 5:51Speaker 9: I don't think he ever.
- 5:52Speaker 10: Fully embraced being a Bostonian being in New England. He
- 5:56Speaker 10: played football here, right, and that's what it was for him.
- 5:59Speaker 10: That was kind of the extent of his relationship. Did
- 6:02Speaker 10: he love playing here? I'm sure he did. I'm sure
- 6:04Speaker 10: he loved you know, the wins and the adulation that
- 6:07Speaker 10: the fans gave him. He's never been one that's been
- 6:10Speaker 10: overly comfortable, sort of you know in the spotlight away.
- 6:15Speaker 10: You know, like he used to complain often about you know,
- 6:18Speaker 10: not being able to have dinner.
- 6:20Speaker 4: And such, you know, stuff like that.
- 6:23Speaker 10: But then as you move on to his post football life, right,
- 6:26Speaker 10: it's what you guys.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Are just talking about.
- 6:28Speaker 9: He's got to kind of play it down the middle.
- 6:29Speaker 10: He can't alienate the section of the fan base when
- 6:33Speaker 10: you're a broadcaster first and then even a part owner,
- 6:37Speaker 10: like Fred said, I mean, you know, he he has
- 6:40Speaker 10: that affection for San Francisco.
- 6:42Speaker 9: He's narrating the Niners new documentary.
- 6:45Speaker 7: Is that right?
- 6:45Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 6:47Speaker 10: All right, san Francisco. That might be a bridge too far.
- 6:50Speaker 10: Like the love, like the love that you're looking for.
- 6:54Speaker 10: He had for San Francisco. That's what made him.
- 6:56Speaker 9: Fall in love with football.
- 6:57Speaker 8: I think the thing too, that that's I don't know
- 6:59Speaker 8: what word is exactly, but it's funny that probably the
- 7:03Speaker 8: fan base that might have hated Tom Brady the most
- 7:06Speaker 8: at first, he now is a part owner of their
- 7:09Speaker 8: team because of the tuck rule, right and the Raiders.
- 7:12Speaker 8: I'm still I'm sure that still stings. So it's I
- 7:15Speaker 8: guess a little painful that he has to play down
- 7:18Speaker 8: the middle to appease a fan base that did nothing
- 7:20Speaker 8: but hate on him, but for good reason.
- 7:22Speaker 4: I mean, I understand they.
- 7:23Speaker 8: Felt like they got screwed out of sealing that game,
- 7:27Speaker 8: but protecting that kind of fan base and alienating your
- 7:30Speaker 8: Patriot fan base a little bit, I understand.
- 7:32Speaker 4: I just to reiterate what I said yesterday, though, I
- 7:34Speaker 4: still that six.
- 7:35Speaker 8: Twelve June twelfth ceremony with Tom Brady and Randy Moss
- 7:39Speaker 8: and everybody.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Oh that was that was just an.
- 7:41Speaker 8: Absolute amazing night, unbelievable and it for me put a
- 7:44Speaker 8: period on that whole period And to be honest, I
- 7:47Speaker 8: want to focus on this, this new team and the
- 7:49Speaker 8: new energy that's here and not digging up all the past.
- 7:53Speaker 6: But you know, he stood in front of us and
- 7:54Speaker 6: said I am a patriot for life. So I wonder,
- 7:59Speaker 6: like in his head, what does that mean?
- 8:00Speaker 7: And you bought it. I did hook line and sinker.
- 8:04Speaker 4: He hasn't been back since.
- 8:06Speaker 8: He's like the director they had a content tried to
- 8:08Speaker 8: kiss me once. I can't go back to that place.
- 8:10Speaker 6: Yeah, all right, Well you mentioned, you know, I want
- 8:13Speaker 6: to focus on this team, and uh you know this
- 8:16Speaker 6: this uh, this team is in the super Bowl. And
- 8:19Speaker 6: Robert Splaine, in the same availability today said he is
- 8:24Speaker 6: one hundred percent certain he will play and.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Then he didn't and then he was out yesterday. So
- 8:28Speaker 4: what does that mean?
- 8:29Speaker 6: That doesn't you know, maybe it's by design, it's you know,
- 8:32Speaker 6: not something that oh he had a setback, but maybe
- 8:35Speaker 6: they're just they're resting him.
- 8:36Speaker 4: He knows what he needs to do.
- 8:37Speaker 8: Yeah, But I'd go back to what doctor Childs said yesterday,
- 8:39Speaker 8: and that's, you know, what what level is he going
- 8:41Speaker 8: to be able to perform? And if you're still having
- 8:43Speaker 8: to protect him four days before the super Bowl, there's
- 8:48Speaker 8: a clear sign to me that even if he does play,
- 8:51Speaker 8: he's going to be limited. And you know, and so
- 8:53Speaker 8: it's it's how long can he go? Is he gonna
- 8:55Speaker 8: get reinjured? I mean, I really like doctor Childs points
- 8:57Speaker 8: yesterday just about the firmness of the surface in Denver
- 9:01Speaker 8: and how that was actually you know, a factor with
- 9:04Speaker 8: an ankle that you can't really dig in and cut
- 9:06Speaker 8: as well as he ken, it's going to put more
- 9:08Speaker 8: stress on that injury.
- 9:10Speaker 4: So we'll see today.
- 9:11Speaker 8: You know, I think today is what third down day,
- 9:13Speaker 8: but you know usually Wednesdays are first and second down day,
- 9:16Speaker 8: and that's to me is Robert spolene time to shine.
- 9:18Speaker 8: Games are one on third down though, So if he's
- 9:20Speaker 8: out there today, I'll have some optimism. But right now
- 9:22Speaker 8: I'd say I'm concerned that even if he plays, he's.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Going to be he's gonna be limited.
- 9:26Speaker 10: And I thought it was interesting we talked a little
- 9:28Speaker 10: bit more with doctor Chow off the air when our
- 9:30Speaker 10: show inded yesterday and him just talking about, you know,
- 9:34Speaker 10: because we had brought the Harold Landry issue to his attention.
- 9:37Speaker 10: He went back and saw it, and you know, he
- 9:39Speaker 10: was sort of saying it might be an either or
- 9:42Speaker 10: like they might not be able to afford to have
- 9:44Speaker 10: two guys active in this game in Landry and Spolene, who,
- 9:48Speaker 10: let's face it, in the middle of the first quarter,
- 9:50Speaker 10: could both be down. You know, they tried to go,
- 9:53Speaker 10: they couldn't go, and all of a sudden, you know,
- 9:55Speaker 10: you're down.
- 9:55Speaker 9: Two roster spots. That could happen.
- 9:58Speaker 10: I don't know exactly how Mike Brabel's gonna, you know,
- 10:02Speaker 10: play play this. I think the way that Spolaine is talking,
- 10:06Speaker 10: I think he's gonna play. I mean, I don't think
- 10:08Speaker 10: you come out this strongly and say that if he's
- 10:10Speaker 10: not going to be in a lineup. But I don't
- 10:13Speaker 10: know at what level and what uh, you know, what amount.
- 10:16Speaker 9: Of plays he's going to be able to play.
- 10:17Speaker 10: And with Landry, I would say I'm a little bit
- 10:21Speaker 10: more skeptical because you know, he has had such inactivity
- 10:25Speaker 10: the last few weeks.
- 10:26Speaker 8: Yeah, along those lines, Sorry, Federal quick just Doctor Chow
- 10:28Speaker 8: also came back over after Evan provided the play that
- 10:33Speaker 8: we believe Harold and Landry was initially injured, and Doctor
- 10:36Speaker 8: Chow's perspective on it was he all he could say
- 10:38Speaker 8: is he is a beast to be kind of able
- 10:41Speaker 8: to come back and play, and I mean to him,
- 10:44Speaker 8: you know this again, this is doctor Chow's assessment of
- 10:46Speaker 8: what he saw in the video in that New Orleans game,
- 10:48Speaker 8: but that he thought it was I believe he said LCL,
- 10:50Speaker 8: which is the outside ligament, and maybe a bone bruise.
- 10:54Speaker 8: But then he also asked, why do they list it
- 10:57Speaker 8: as ankle? And you know, so there's just been a
- 10:59Speaker 8: lot of confusion and uncertainty of exactly what Harold Landry's
- 11:04Speaker 8: been dealing with.
- 11:04Speaker 4: And the same with Spaleine.
- 11:05Speaker 8: I mean, I think we could probably speculate some kind
- 11:07Speaker 8: of and I don't know if it's a high ankle
- 11:09Speaker 8: injury or what, you know, a low ankle injury. But
- 11:12Speaker 8: with Landry tough to tell. Seattle's not exactly healthy. They
- 11:17Speaker 8: just had an injury in practice.
- 11:19Speaker 10: That's an enormous blow for them. And I don't know
- 11:22Speaker 10: it's early, you know, it just happened at practice. We
- 11:25Speaker 10: saw some video of him getting out of an ISSUV
- 11:28Speaker 10: in front of the hotel and limping noticeably. You know,
- 11:32Speaker 10: back in now, my first thought was, if it was
- 11:36Speaker 10: really bad, would he be walking, you know, would he
- 11:39Speaker 10: have some soot or crutches or something. Now you know,
- 11:43Speaker 10: he he didn't really have any assistance with him, but it, yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 10: he was. He was limping noticeably, and I think him
- 11:51Speaker 10: and worry that, Like, that's a big big I think
- 11:54Speaker 10: Evan compared it to almost the way Baltimore uses Kyle Hamilton,
- 11:57Speaker 10: and that's what he does. He's like a jack of
- 11:59Speaker 10: ball as he lines up everywhere. He's probably a linebacker yep,
- 12:04Speaker 10: first and foremost, but he can play you know, strong safety.
- 12:07Speaker 10: He's even played a little free they haven't used him
- 12:09Speaker 10: much in free Uh, he's even been on.
- 12:11Speaker 9: The defensive line at times.
- 12:12Speaker 6: Uh.
- 12:12Speaker 10: You know. Bill Barnwell had a really detailed breakdown of
- 12:16Speaker 10: just all the different things that he's done for that defense.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Which is impressive for a rookie. Yep, for sure. It
- 12:21Speaker 4: has a big loss, big piece. I saw another doctor
- 12:23Speaker 4: analyze again.
- 12:23Speaker 8: He said, I guess he did have a high ankle
- 12:25Speaker 8: injury earlier in the season, but he said it did
- 12:27Speaker 8: not look like it was a re injury of that.
- 12:30Speaker 8: If he was, to your point, Paul, he probably would
- 12:32Speaker 8: have had a walking boot on, uh so something a monitor.
- 12:35Speaker 8: But just from that video that somebody took of him
- 12:37Speaker 8: walking back into the team blocker or a team hotel,
- 12:40Speaker 8: looks like he's gonna be limited.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Well, we'll say, uh.
- 12:44Speaker 10: And the week isn't over yet, so I would just
- 12:46Speaker 10: stay always works out for the Patriot.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Away from ladders. Dam darnold.
- 12:53Speaker 6: Don't let anyboss your path.
- 12:55Speaker 9: He's already heard that's true.
- 12:56Speaker 6: He's got the.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 7: So that's that's kind of the injury update.
- 13:03Speaker 6: You've seen some clips from practice on Patriots dot com
- 13:06Speaker 6: and the Patriot's social accounts.
- 13:09Speaker 8: Well, one more part of it. Drake was a full participant,
- 13:11Speaker 8: so you know, shoulders still listed, but full participant. According
- 13:15Speaker 8: to the media pool report, he did all the throws,
- 13:17Speaker 8: took one hundred percent of the reps.
- 13:18Speaker 4: So hopefully it looks like all signs.
- 13:21Speaker 6: We talked to people who were there and they say,
- 13:23Speaker 6: and look like he's got a bad shoulder to me.
- 13:25Speaker 6: So that's good news Patriots Nation. Our quarterback is he's
- 13:30Speaker 6: going to be a okay for the game, so and.
- 13:32Speaker 8: He needs to be that's to me and just say,
- 13:35Speaker 8: I feel like I have a developing sense of confidence
- 13:37Speaker 8: in this team. And I don't know if it's just
- 13:40Speaker 8: the fact that we're here and there's excitement and I
- 13:42Speaker 8: came here with just no expectations and thinking in my
- 13:45Speaker 8: mind they're the underdogs and you know, more likely than not,
- 13:48Speaker 8: Seattle's going to win based on that, you know, and
- 13:50Speaker 8: not trying to get invested. But the more that we're
- 13:53Speaker 8: around this team, the more that you know they get
- 13:54Speaker 8: grilled in all these media sessions over and over every day,
- 13:58Speaker 8: you know, with all kinds of ranging questions. It just
- 14:01Speaker 8: continues to hammer to me how much this team brilliant
- 14:03Speaker 8: joys playing together. And you know, we talk about the
- 14:06Speaker 8: power friendship, but this team definitely has that. They clearly
- 14:09Speaker 8: love Mike Rabel and I just think they're gonna go
- 14:12Speaker 8: cut it loose against this team and lay it all
- 14:14Speaker 8: out there on the line. I developing confidence here from Deuce,
- 14:18Speaker 8: who usually, as we know, can be a little.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Bit of a worry ward yep.
- 14:22Speaker 6: So last night O Lineman had their dinner and Drake
- 14:27Speaker 6: may I guess was a participant, and he said today
- 14:31Speaker 6: that so far this week, that's been the favorite thing
- 14:34Speaker 6: he did just have that dinner.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Uh so that was pretty cool.
- 14:38Speaker 6: So you talk about the bond of the team, Yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 6: and you know that old line's gonna have to play well.
- 14:44Speaker 6: They're gonna have to play well this game for the
- 14:47Speaker 6: Patriots to pull out a win.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:49Speaker 8: What's interesting to me too, Fred, is that it's not
- 14:51Speaker 8: even like the individual matchups nobody's really talking about, like
- 14:55Speaker 8: you know, Lawrence on Campbell or you know those.
- 14:58Speaker 4: It's really just as a team, right.
- 14:59Speaker 8: This team rushes so well, and I think this is
- 15:02Speaker 8: a mental game for the Patriots offensive line of picking
- 15:06Speaker 8: up stunts, understanding Mike McDonald's complicated blitzes, and hopefully they're
- 15:13Speaker 8: all locked in and playing the game as we hear
- 15:15Speaker 8: so many times through one set of eyes.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Yep.
- 15:18Speaker 7: You know, the game itself. We talked about it yesterday.
- 15:23Speaker 6: Super Bowls kind of have their own vibe to it,
- 15:26Speaker 6: their own feeling. It's not like your typical game. You know,
- 15:31Speaker 6: the breaks are longer, the halftime is longer. There tends
- 15:35Speaker 6: to be a lot more momentum swings, you know, within
- 15:37Speaker 6: the game, games within the game. And I've heard players
- 15:42Speaker 6: say that you know, watch out about expending too much
- 15:46Speaker 6: energy up front. You know, the teams that come out
- 15:48Speaker 6: and you know, even before the first kickoff, they're like, ah,
- 15:52Speaker 6: you know, going crazy and slapping each other, and you know,
- 15:56Speaker 6: we love to see that. Go ahead and do that
- 15:58Speaker 6: because in the fourth quarter you're going to be exact. Yeah,
- 16:00Speaker 6: you know, it's that type of game. So we talked
- 16:04Speaker 6: about it yesterday. The advantage I think the Patriots have
- 16:07Speaker 6: is a guy like Vrabel who's been through it. He's
- 16:10Speaker 6: been through it as a player with success, and so
- 16:14Speaker 6: hopefully he can transfer that knowledge to these guys, most
- 16:19Speaker 6: of them who have never been here before.
- 16:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that experience is valuable. And you know,
- 16:23Speaker 4: I think Sam Donald's been around a while.
- 16:24Speaker 8: Though I'm not really anticipating him, I think that it's
- 16:27Speaker 8: gonna be on the Patriots to take him off his game.
- 16:30Speaker 8: I don't expect him to come out I agree as
- 16:32Speaker 8: a veteran who's been around, I think he's gonna come
- 16:35Speaker 8: out here and try to take advantage of this opportunity.
- 16:37Speaker 4: It's it's it's.
- 16:37Speaker 8: Gonna be up to the Patriots pass rush and especially
- 16:39Speaker 8: Milton Williams and Christian Barmore to get his head spinning
- 16:43Speaker 8: and to confuse him. I've seen plenty, you know, I
- 16:45Speaker 8: said to what I love this week is you get
- 16:46Speaker 8: every national media pundit, all their attention is focused on
- 16:50Speaker 8: this matchup. You get a lot of really interesting insight,
- 16:53Speaker 8: you know, a lot of minutia, that stuff that we
- 16:55Speaker 8: don't even talk about during the season.
- 16:56Speaker 4: But I just think that's that's such.
- 16:58Speaker 6: A huge key to it. You know, from what I
- 17:00Speaker 6: watched of the Seattle later in the season, the type
- 17:03Speaker 6: of throws that they're asking Darnold to make. It's not
- 17:06Speaker 6: like you know, uh, you know, low percentage throws. It's
- 17:10Speaker 6: very timing base. It's you know, quick, accurate, mid range
- 17:15Speaker 6: type of stuff inside.
- 17:17Speaker 4: And he's an accurate quarterback.
- 17:19Speaker 6: Yeah, so they're not asking him to you know, be
- 17:23Speaker 6: Aaron Rodgers.
- 17:24Speaker 11: No.
- 17:24Speaker 4: And I think A. J.
- 17:25Speaker 8: Barner is really an underrated player. You know, he's not
- 17:27Speaker 8: super dynamic, but he's just a really big body. And
- 17:31Speaker 8: I think he's the kind of guy that the Patriots
- 17:34Speaker 8: might just they don't quite have the size maybe to
- 17:36Speaker 8: match up with him, you know, maybe it ends up
- 17:38Speaker 8: being somebody like a Marty Mapu who is a little
- 17:40Speaker 8: bit you know, has a little bit of extra length.
- 17:42Speaker 8: But you know, you talk about Splain with a bum
- 17:44Speaker 8: ankle trying to tackle a J.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Barner. He gets, he gets a volume of passes.
- 17:48Speaker 8: I said yesterday, it's like they want to pound you
- 17:50Speaker 8: with Barner and Kenneth Walker. And then while when you
- 17:53Speaker 8: get so focused on those guys and stopping the short
- 17:56Speaker 8: stuff and being tough along the line, boom, all of
- 17:58Speaker 8: a sudden, it's going to JAS Center.
- 17:59Speaker 4: It's going all right.
- 18:01Speaker 6: Well, we're getting a lot of emails coming in at
- 18:03Speaker 6: podcasts at Patriots dot com, the phone number is eighty
- 18:05Speaker 6: five to five past five hundred Eleanor writ sind as
- 18:09Speaker 6: someone who has been following Drake May's injury since he
- 18:12Speaker 6: didn't practice, I cannot tell you how relieved I am
- 18:15Speaker 6: to see him finally practicing. What do you think of
- 18:17Speaker 6: his chances for MVP Offensive Player of the Year. Yeah,
- 18:21Speaker 6: that's tonight. Yeah, Yeah, I don't know.
- 18:25Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean I think he's I liked his chance
- 18:28Speaker 10: for MVP better, but I just it's hard.
- 18:32Speaker 9: It's hard to handicap these things.
- 18:34Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 10: You know, you listen to Mena Kaimes yesterday and she
- 18:36Speaker 10: didn't think it was close, you know, she she voted
- 18:39Speaker 10: for Drake May. I've heard other people say, you know,
- 18:41Speaker 10: it was Stafford in a runaway.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Yeah, so I.
- 18:44Speaker 7: Don't think MVP it's going to be either mayor Stafford.
- 18:48Speaker 6: And then usually when that happens a quarterback, they give
- 18:50Speaker 6: the offensive to another position, and well deservedly. I mean,
- 18:56Speaker 6: this guy that they're playing today could be up for
- 18:59Speaker 6: offensive players.
- 19:00Speaker 10: I would say him, Pooka and those two guys to me,
- 19:04Speaker 10: should be the finalist for Offensive Player of the Year.
- 19:07Speaker 10: I was wondering when Drake was included among the finalists,
- 19:11Speaker 10: if maybe they had worked something, you know, maybe the
- 19:13Speaker 10: voters said, well, we're going to give the MVP to Stafford,
- 19:15Speaker 10: but we'll give the offensive player to May.
- 19:17Speaker 4: It just doesn't make sense, and I don't I don't
- 19:19Speaker 4: love that.
- 19:20Speaker 10: I mean, I could sort of understand the whole AP that,
- 19:23Speaker 10: you know, the AP sorry, the All Pro thing, when
- 19:27Speaker 10: they did that last year. Yeah, the All Pro wasn't
- 19:31Speaker 10: overly close, right, the All Pro quarterback wasn't overly close.
- 19:36Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 19:36Speaker 10: I mean, I guess we'll wait a few more hours,
- 19:39Speaker 10: we'll find out for sure. I think Rabel, out of
- 19:41Speaker 10: all the Patriots people, has the best chance to win.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it just makes more sense to me. Maybe
- 19:46Speaker 4: McDaniels too, right, the Games an assistant Coach of.
- 19:49Speaker 10: The Year, except Henderson's up for Rookie. I don't think
- 19:52Speaker 10: he has much of a shot at that. He's a
- 19:54Speaker 10: well deserved finalist. But I think it's going to be
- 19:57Speaker 10: Ted McMillan here today. So yeah, but I think Rabel,
- 20:03Speaker 10: Rabel and mc daniels, I think the two coaches have
- 20:06Speaker 10: the probably the best chances.
- 20:07Speaker 4: For the Patriots. Yeah, you know, you know this me too.
- 20:10Speaker 10: Then we get into the whole semantic argument that Fred
- 20:12Speaker 10: and I always have, like what is a comeback?
- 20:14Speaker 4: I don't know what the comeback player, I.
- 20:16Speaker 10: Mean, Digs is up for that, right yeah, yeahah, A
- 20:18Speaker 10: lot of Patriots up for the final as finalists.
- 20:20Speaker 8: It just makes more sense to me to say Drake
- 20:23Speaker 8: May was more valuable to his team, but Matthew Stafford
- 20:27Speaker 8: was an offensive juggernaut this year and he had helped
- 20:29Speaker 8: but he could do that, he helped push I mean
- 20:31Speaker 8: that to me is the most simple way to put it.
- 20:34Speaker 4: But I still feel like it's probably gonna be Matthew. Still.
- 20:37Speaker 6: That's my hope is that, you know, because matth Stafford had,
- 20:41Speaker 6: you know, such a great offensive year that you know
- 20:44Speaker 6: he'll get he got the All Pro and that he'll
- 20:48Speaker 6: get Offensive Player of the Year. Yeah, and then they'll
- 20:50Speaker 6: give the m v P because they'll do it the
- 20:53Speaker 6: correct way, and they'll give it to Drake May.
- 20:55Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 20:55Speaker 8: Yeah, I just I just hope this team gets some acknowledgment.
- 20:57Speaker 8: I mean, I'm not I don't really care to know.
- 20:59Speaker 10: I voted for May too, right, what because you were
- 21:02Speaker 10: looking at me as if to say, like, okay, Paul,
- 21:04Speaker 10: it's time to start arguing. We haven't argued yet. I
- 21:06Speaker 10: voted for May also, even though I don't have a vote.
- 21:09Speaker 7: Okay, you don't have a dog in the fight.
- 21:10Speaker 4: I do have a dog in the fight. It's Drake May. Yeah.
- 21:13Speaker 8: I don't usually care about the awards, but I just
- 21:15Speaker 8: I want to see this team get acknowledged. They had
- 21:16Speaker 8: a really special season, ten game win streak, turned it
- 21:19Speaker 8: around from a four win season. They need, they deserve
- 21:21Speaker 8: some love, especially now that they're in the Super Bowl.
- 21:24Speaker 6: Dan and Wales right say, I know Fred has been
- 21:27Speaker 6: banging the drum for a sneaky Milton Williams MVP bet
- 21:30Speaker 6: all week, but I think there's a good chance that
- 21:32Speaker 6: if the Patriots get to win, Hunter Henry May be
- 21:35Speaker 6: well the guy uh Seattle rank twenty ninth in the
- 21:39Speaker 6: league for yards allowed to tight ends during the regular season.
- 21:42Speaker 6: If May and Henry start linking up, I can see
- 21:44Speaker 6: a big day for eighty five.
- 21:46Speaker 9: Do you do you have odds on those? I wonder
- 21:49Speaker 9: I don't.
- 21:50Speaker 10: I would not look at Hunter Henry as being anywhere
- 21:52Speaker 10: near as big a chance as Milton Williams. Yeah, Like,
- 21:54Speaker 10: if Hunter Henry has a big game, Drake May is
- 21:56Speaker 10: gonna win the MVP.
- 21:57Speaker 7: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 21:58Speaker 4: It's you know, I mean, what is Hunter Henry gonna do? Like,
- 22:01Speaker 4: what's the like he got what Edelman did?
- 22:05Speaker 10: Yeah, I was gonna say for Hunter Henry to win MVP,
- 22:07Speaker 10: he'd have to catch like twelve balls for one hundred
- 22:09Speaker 10: and sixty yards in like two touchdowns.
- 22:10Speaker 6: Yep.
- 22:11Speaker 9: Well that's just not going to happen.
- 22:12Speaker 10: The un Branch one MVP with double digit catches, Right,
- 22:16Speaker 10: That's what I'm saying.
- 22:17Speaker 6: But but but it's still it's rare that a receiver
- 22:21Speaker 6: gets it in the quarterback doesn't because he.
- 22:23Speaker 10: Branch did it two years in a row and then
- 22:24Speaker 10: he got the MVP the second year he had double
- 22:26Speaker 10: digit catches against Carolina and against Philadelphia.
- 22:29Speaker 8: Right, well, and Welker might have even been the running
- 22:31Speaker 8: in O seven. Then you have same similar kind of performance.
- 22:33Speaker 9: Ten You mean he wasn't a playoff choker?
- 22:36Speaker 4: Next, Mike, just your friendly reminder, just.
- 22:38Speaker 10: Your friendly reminder that you know he had you know,
- 22:41Speaker 10: ten catches for one hundred and something yards in the
- 22:43Speaker 10: Super Bowl.
- 22:45Speaker 6: Let's see. Tony says, uh, last Thursday, I sent the
- 22:49Speaker 6: email below and you all dismissed it. We don't all
- 22:52Speaker 6: just Fred And it has to do with a c
- 22:55Speaker 6: joint injuries.
- 22:56Speaker 7: Yeah, well that's why we did after you, after your
- 22:58Speaker 7: interview with the doctor.
- 22:59Speaker 6: Yes, and keeping in mind, when May was asked by
- 23:02Speaker 6: Scott Hansen if he was one hundred percent, he didn't
- 23:04Speaker 6: reply yes, he said, feeling great. My concern has only deepened.
- 23:09Speaker 6: Isn't this the biggest issue in the game? No matter
- 23:12Speaker 6: how well Williams and Barb are in our secondary plays,
- 23:16Speaker 6: If May can't throw the deep ball accurately and throwing
- 23:19Speaker 6: tight windows in the short and intermediate areas against a
- 23:22Speaker 6: good secondary that will sit in the short accurately, blah blah,
- 23:27Speaker 6: I don't know what he means, but otherwise what he's
- 23:30Speaker 6: saying is it we can't win. If May is in
- 23:33Speaker 6: one hundred percent.
- 23:34Speaker 4: Well he's not gonna be one hundred percent.
- 23:36Speaker 8: I don't know how many of the guys on the
- 23:37Speaker 8: team are going to be one hundred percent. You know,
- 23:39Speaker 8: it's he didn't have those things against these last three
- 23:41Speaker 8: games in the playoffs, they somehow were able to squeak
- 23:44Speaker 8: out wins.
- 23:45Speaker 4: I agree with this general sentiment.
- 23:46Speaker 8: May's gonna have to be really good, but I'm not
- 23:48Speaker 8: concerned that this injury is enough to be the thing
- 23:52Speaker 8: that completely derails him. You know, he's either gonna play
- 23:54Speaker 8: good or reason. I'm not gonna blame it on the
- 23:55Speaker 8: shoulder if he doesn't have a good game.
- 23:57Speaker 10: Wow, Mike, real balanced, thoughtful analysis, Paul.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Now, because you know what's gonna happen. Those shoulder was hurt.
- 24:07Speaker 4: What do you want him to do? You know what's
- 24:08Speaker 4: gonna happen.
- 24:09Speaker 10: And if he plays well, it's gonna be like he
- 24:13Speaker 10: only had one warrior.
- 24:15Speaker 9: It'll be one of two things.
- 24:16Speaker 10: Either it'll be it'll be you know, sort of blown
- 24:20Speaker 10: up it's bigger, or like it was the media's fault.
- 24:23Speaker 10: They overblew the shoulder injury all along, right, except for
- 24:26Speaker 10: Greg Barnard, who says it's a big nothing burger.
- 24:29Speaker 6: James Pettigrew, the most interesting Patriots fan of the world,
- 24:32Speaker 6: has a question for Mike James.
- 24:34Speaker 7: As a Super Bowl rookie, I'm.
- 24:35Speaker 6: Wondering how you're received as a member of the Patriots
- 24:38Speaker 6: media by everyone. Does he get scowls, thumbs up, confused looks.
- 24:42Speaker 6: Does being a Patriots reporter give some cachet given the
- 24:46Speaker 6: dynasty reputation? Do they think you're a better hockey ref
- 24:49Speaker 6: as we know all about as you know, all about
- 24:52Speaker 6: cheating and how to hide it.
- 24:53Speaker 8: I would just say everyone's been incredibly excited for all
- 24:57Speaker 8: of us who are here on our first try, first time,
- 25:00Speaker 8: and that's been really nice to see. I know, Paul especially,
- 25:03Speaker 8: just wants to make sure that those of us that
- 25:05Speaker 8: are the newbies having fun. And I'm, like I've been
- 25:11Speaker 8: saying this a couple of times, like I'm trying not
- 25:13Speaker 8: to get too reflective.
- 25:14Speaker 4: I'm just in it right.
- 25:15Speaker 8: Now and on the flight back and in the next
- 25:17Speaker 8: couple of weeks, then I'll look through my pictures and
- 25:19Speaker 8: realize everything that we just went through. But uh no,
- 25:22Speaker 8: it's it's so far. It's been an amazing experience. And
- 25:24Speaker 8: in the days just continue to get more and more exciting.
- 25:27Speaker 8: And we've got more people here today and.
- 25:29Speaker 4: We're about to have another Oh yes, right here go.
- 25:32Speaker 6: All right, it's a familiar face. There's a familiar face.
- 25:35Speaker 6: It's Ted Carris. Everybody, all right, Ted Carris on the show.
- 25:40Speaker 6: What's up? It's been a while.
- 25:45Speaker 4: We mess you. I miss you guys too. Jays in
- 25:48Speaker 4: the Big show again. Huh right, we thought not us.
- 25:53Speaker 4: I said that when they hired Josh back, are gonna
- 25:56Speaker 4: know what to do and now know how to do it. Yeah.
- 25:58Speaker 6: So house life the Cincy.
- 25:59Speaker 4: It's been great. Many it's going on fifth year, fifth
- 26:02Speaker 4: season in Cincinnati, so we love it. Really.
- 26:05Speaker 7: You put yourself together a nice solid career there.
- 26:07Speaker 4: It's been great.
- 26:08Speaker 9: The whole court in that locker room like you did for.
- 26:10Speaker 4: Us, I do. Yeah, it's not, you know, quite the same.
- 26:13Speaker 4: I would say Ted talks. There's some Ted talks. Yeah.
- 26:16Speaker 4: We had that whole thing with the PA, with the
- 26:19Speaker 4: trying to get people out of the locker room. It's
- 26:21Speaker 4: kind of but I got back. I got back with
- 26:23Speaker 4: my guys. I love my since he beat guys? What
- 26:26Speaker 4: the hats too? Ted? How are the hats? Hats are
- 26:27Speaker 4: doing great? We're actually we're we're about to break ground
- 26:31Speaker 4: on an apartment building for adults with down SYNDERM and autism.
- 26:33Speaker 4: The people buying hats and generous donations around Cincinnati.
- 26:37Speaker 6: So that's your your thing, it's my thing. Yeah, since
- 26:40Speaker 6: he hat dot com? Okay, yeah, that's great. How'd you
- 26:44Speaker 6: get involved in that?
- 26:46Speaker 4: Gosh, I just made this hat and then everyone freaked
- 26:49Speaker 4: out about it. Yeah, and instead of I, you know,
- 26:52Speaker 4: I could never see myself just peddling hats for money,
- 26:55Speaker 4: so I figured let's funnel it into But my mission
- 26:58Speaker 4: has been for most of my career, which is, uh,
- 27:01Speaker 4: you know, helping adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Ye uh,
- 27:05Speaker 4: find housing, independent living for that. That's great, that's really cool.
- 27:09Speaker 4: Are you going to branch out from Cincinnati? You think
- 27:11Speaker 4: or you know? It's yeah, I think, you know, one
- 27:14Speaker 4: of my main things I want to do is bring
- 27:16Speaker 4: infrastructure too. Since he but yeah, I think I could
- 27:19Speaker 4: take this anywhere. I think it is pretty niche and accelerated.
- 27:23Speaker 4: Being a you know, captain of the Bengals. Yep, yeah,
- 27:27Speaker 4: I'm just blown away by Cincinnai's generosity. And you know
- 27:30Speaker 4: they're fanaticism for the Bengals, and I want to do
- 27:33Speaker 4: a good job for them, and we win one for them.
- 27:35Speaker 4: They've been waited.
- 27:37Speaker 6: I have a I have a serious grudge against the Bengals. Nothing,
- 27:41Speaker 6: nothing personal, but me and the Bengals don't get along.
- 27:44Speaker 4: What happened.
- 27:45Speaker 6: I'll tell you off fair, I'll tell you off fair.
- 27:48Speaker 10: Spy Gate well adjacent, yah, spygate adjacent. But I do
- 27:54Speaker 10: have a question for you, Yeah, specifically on the game.
- 27:57Speaker 10: So Fred has a real outside the box MVP pick
- 28:01Speaker 10: for the Patriots if they win, and that's Milton Williams.
- 28:03Speaker 9: Okay, you got a chance to play it? Did he played?
- 28:06Speaker 4: He was?
- 28:07Speaker 7: He was?
- 28:08Speaker 10: He was out of the Bengals game. They goes my question.
- 28:10Speaker 10: I just love to saw right as I was asking.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Us that we got bar more too, though.
- 28:16Speaker 9: I mean, I talk about those inside guys and what.
- 28:18Speaker 4: You're seeing really good always. You know, whenever the Pats
- 28:21Speaker 4: are good, it's because their defense is really good. And
- 28:23Speaker 4: and then Josh finds a way to manufacture enough points
- 28:27Speaker 4: to really, you know, win win comfortably, I think. And
- 28:30Speaker 4: that's been there. Uh, Bread and butter yet again, I can't.
- 28:35Speaker 4: You know, I'm really impressed with what UH coach Rabel
- 28:38Speaker 4: did to rebuild this culture in a single year. And
- 28:41Speaker 4: there's a couple of guys, I think five or six
- 28:43Speaker 4: guys that have survived since when I was last there
- 28:46Speaker 4: in twenty twenty one. So I'll be rooting for the Pats.
- 28:49Speaker 4: It was the defensive scheme a lot different now.
- 28:50Speaker 8: I mean, we watched Bill's scheme forever, and you know,
- 28:53Speaker 8: now it seems they're a little bit more upfield trying
- 28:55Speaker 8: to attack with those two guys. Did you notice from
- 28:57Speaker 8: your perspective going against guys in practice and then facing
- 28:59Speaker 8: the Patriots now.
- 29:00Speaker 4: A little less base I think that. But I think
- 29:02Speaker 4: that's just league wide is a little less base defense.
- 29:05Speaker 4: But I mean they have their their three four no's
- 29:09Speaker 4: in Tonga, so I mean it's kind of the similar
- 29:12Speaker 4: program really. I mean, obviously Vrabel was raised in it,
- 29:14Speaker 4: but not in Belichick's tree, which I think is interesting.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Never coached with him, obviously played under him. I you know,
- 29:21Speaker 4: and if we're staying on that vein, shout out to
- 29:25Speaker 4: mister Craft. Unbelievable also should be in the Hall of
- 29:28Speaker 4: Fame starting right now.
- 29:30Speaker 6: So, yeah, that's crazy.
- 29:32Speaker 4: What's going on with the crazy? Don't make these guys?
- 29:34Speaker 6: Wait, So who's better than Bill Belichick that you would
- 29:38Speaker 6: vote for? Right, Like, I can't know, I don't get it, no,
- 29:41Speaker 6: or mister Craft. Yes, I mean absolutely. The whole threat
- 29:44Speaker 6: to a lot of guys.
- 29:45Speaker 4: I thought when I was there was there's not gonna
- 29:47Speaker 4: be enough room for how many Patriots need to get in,
- 29:49Speaker 4: right and if those two are locked, so there's there's
- 29:52Speaker 4: some guys waiting in the wings that are sweating because
- 29:54Speaker 4: if those two can't get in from the Pats, there's
- 29:57Speaker 4: gonna be.
- 29:57Speaker 6: Absolutely So one of the coolest guys in the league
- 30:02Speaker 6: is Joe Burrow. What's what's he like as a teammate.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Oh, he's the best man. He's a great friend. I've
- 30:06Speaker 4: been very blessed and spoiled with quarterback play over my career,
- 30:10Speaker 4: and I say it all the time, like one of
- 30:13Speaker 4: the biggest differences. You know, when I showed up to
- 30:16Speaker 4: New England, Tom was already in his forties, a living legend.
- 30:19Speaker 4: You know, I couldn't consider him a peer. Joe was
- 30:21Speaker 4: like my true blue, great friend peer, obviously superstar. The
- 30:25Speaker 4: whole quarterback thing too, I love it, and I think
- 30:31Speaker 4: he's had kind of a couple of tough, tough breaks,
- 30:34Speaker 4: but man, he bounces back quick.
- 30:36Speaker 6: And he wants, he wants to play, to do anything
- 30:41Speaker 6: with number nine, you know at the Helm.
- 30:43Speaker 4: So I'm excited for twenty twenty six.
- 30:45Speaker 8: Yeah, how fun is it watching him with Jamar and
- 30:47Speaker 8: t Higgins those two guys.
- 30:48Speaker 4: Man, I will I sometimes you get spoiled too when
- 30:51Speaker 4: whenever Jamar catches the molly, like oh he's gone, Like
- 30:54Speaker 4: it's such a good feeling as no lineman just shot
- 30:56Speaker 4: down forty yards getting a field goal stands like done,
- 30:59Speaker 4: done for at least five minutes.
- 31:02Speaker 6: You mentioned Josh McDaniels manufacturing something like what is it
- 31:07Speaker 6: about him as a coordinator that impressed you.
- 31:10Speaker 4: As attention to detail? I mean I can still speak
- 31:12Speaker 4: the whole offense if if he put a quiz that,
- 31:15Speaker 4: if he quiz me on the offense right now, I
- 31:16Speaker 4: could nail it. That was ingrained into my soul. How
- 31:20Speaker 4: did he do that? Like, well, Scar was a big
- 31:22Speaker 4: part of that too. Okay, okay, yeah, but I think
- 31:25Speaker 4: one of the you know, the big things that he
- 31:27Speaker 4: really teaches offense well of what we are trying to
- 31:30Speaker 4: do here on this plague? What is the actual goal?
- 31:33Speaker 4: We're not just running a play. Why are we running it?
- 31:36Speaker 4: What makes it successful? What's the point of attack. I
- 31:40Speaker 4: just think the detail of how he teaches his offensive
- 31:43Speaker 4: schematics is better than you know, anyone i've.
- 31:47Speaker 6: And I think I think he got that from Bill,
- 31:50Speaker 6: because I think Bill one of Bill's superpowers was taking
- 31:53Speaker 6: complex things and simplifying it and being able to teach it.
- 31:56Speaker 4: It was like a football master's degree. You know that
- 31:58Speaker 4: that first four years of the five years I played
- 32:01Speaker 4: in New England. I mean I remember one year, I
- 32:03Speaker 4: think it was twenty twenty eighteen. I think I can
- 32:08Speaker 4: look back at my notes. I mean Bill called three
- 32:10Speaker 4: different times, like on a Tuesday Wednesday meeting that we
- 32:13Speaker 4: were gonna block a punt this week and we did.
- 32:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:15Speaker 4: I mean it was just like stuff like that, I think.
- 32:17Speaker 4: But back to Josh, I just think he runs a
- 32:20Speaker 4: very efficient, tailored to the opponent offense where everyone knows
- 32:25Speaker 4: what to do and how to do it.
- 32:27Speaker 10: I know you don't get a lot of chance to
- 32:29Speaker 10: watch the Patriots offense because obviously you're more concerned about
- 32:32Speaker 10: the defense. But what have you seen from Josh and
- 32:34Speaker 10: what he's done for Drake may what imprint have you seen,
- 32:37Speaker 10: you know, with the season that he's had at such
- 32:40Speaker 10: a young age.
- 32:41Speaker 4: I think he's very comfortable in what they're doing. I
- 32:43Speaker 4: don't think Josh asks him to be a superhero, even
- 32:46Speaker 4: though he can be. I think he runs the ball
- 32:51Speaker 4: at a volume that's appropriate for a second year quarterback
- 32:55Speaker 4: and also lets Drake use his legs when he needs to.
- 32:58Speaker 4: I think they like that in the AFC Championship game
- 33:02Speaker 4: to steal it like that's just another manufacturing your offense
- 33:05Speaker 4: to tailored to the opponent in the context of the
- 33:08Speaker 4: game you're in. That I think sets Josh apart from
- 33:10Speaker 4: a lot of play callers in the NFL.
- 33:13Speaker 6: What's the secret to your success in terms of longevity?
- 33:16Speaker 6: How do you How do you put together a career
- 33:19Speaker 6: like you've done?
- 33:20Speaker 7: Well?
- 33:21Speaker 4: A lot of luck and blessings. Yeah, but about seven
- 33:25Speaker 4: years ago, my wife became certified in yoga and pilates.
- 33:28Speaker 4: She teaches both and really put.
- 33:31Speaker 6: Me through flexibility.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Yeah, really good chair posts. That's a tough one. Yeah,
- 33:42Speaker 4: it is a tone like that one that one if
- 33:44Speaker 4: they make you hold of her too long. But no,
- 33:46Speaker 4: my wife has really increased my athleticism and uh helped
- 33:51Speaker 4: me achieve longevity going into year eleven feeling great under contract.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Here we go. So it's the TV twelve kind of
- 33:57Speaker 4: method like flex. I remember one of the things Tom
- 34:02Speaker 4: told me as a young player was a lot of
- 34:06Speaker 4: people get hurt in the pilots because they try to
- 34:07Speaker 4: fight it. Like when you feel yourself going down, you
- 34:10Speaker 4: feel so in your legs go limp. And I've used
- 34:13Speaker 4: that for ten years now and it's saved me a
- 34:17Speaker 4: few ligaments. I feel. Knock on wood, yeah, know how
- 34:20Speaker 4: to fall? Know how to fall? Yeah.
- 34:22Speaker 8: Any thoughts on this Seattle defense. I mean everybody's been
- 34:25Speaker 8: praising them. I know you guys didn't play him, but
- 34:26Speaker 8: just have you caught anything of them? And what are
- 34:28Speaker 8: your impressions of them?
- 34:29Speaker 4: You know? I think that obviously they have a good front,
- 34:32Speaker 4: defensive front that's gonna probably if I was them, I
- 34:36Speaker 4: would try to attack the left side of New England,
- 34:39Speaker 4: even just because there's two rookies there, and I think
- 34:42Speaker 4: Josh knows that. I think there's gonna they're gonna be.
- 34:44Speaker 4: They've been scheming for two weeks, you know, probably to
- 34:47Speaker 4: account for that and there's gonna be some some help
- 34:50Speaker 4: since that way, But gosh, I think it's I think
- 34:52Speaker 4: it's gonna be a classic kind of sobber knock or
- 34:56Speaker 4: Super Bowl. I think it's gonna be two evenly matched
- 34:59Speaker 4: teams with good cues and good programs and good head coaches.
- 35:03Speaker 4: I'm excited to watch high score, a low score. I
- 35:06Speaker 4: probably a mid twenties game.
- 35:07Speaker 7: Probably.
- 35:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:08Speaker 6: Normal.
- 35:08Speaker 4: I think it's going to be a normal scoring game.
- 35:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 35:12Speaker 7: I like the pass.
- 35:13Speaker 4: I'm ready past for the Patriots.
- 35:16Speaker 7: I'm not all Tom Well.
- 35:18Speaker 4: I mean I'm playing man.
- 35:19Speaker 6: I can't.
- 35:20Speaker 4: I can't. I think I think the first five minutes
- 35:29Speaker 4: of the third quarter will give us who's gonna win. Yeah, Okay,
- 35:32Speaker 4: I think when we come out and you know, I
- 35:36Speaker 4: think it'll be even going into halftime that first five minutes.
- 35:38Speaker 4: You know what, what is Josh coming back with? I'm
- 35:43Speaker 4: calling a deep play action shot touchdown? Okay the third quarter? Okay, Right,
- 35:47Speaker 4: that's one thing. And just going back and thinking about
- 35:49Speaker 4: all my times playing.
- 35:49Speaker 6: In their drug so teddy, if people want to get
- 35:52Speaker 6: involved in in you know, your cause, how do they
- 35:54Speaker 6: do that?

- 43:58Speaker 6: to see him. And uh, right now Evan Lazares back
- 44:01Speaker 6: from Access.
- 44:01Speaker 4: Hello.
- 44:03Speaker 28: Ted Carris is the man, by the way, that's why
- 44:05Speaker 28: my favorite guys that has ever come through with the
- 44:08Speaker 28: Patriots locker room.
- 44:09Speaker 7: So when he was here, you was with Clinics, right.
- 44:11Speaker 28: I was with Clinis and he did not care that
- 44:15Speaker 28: I was, you know, twenty something up and coming, first
- 44:19Speaker 28: time ever doing this type of kid and always gave
- 44:23Speaker 28: me the time of day, always was generous with his time.
- 44:28Speaker 9: Yeah, he was great. He was great.
- 44:30Speaker 4: Funny guy too, he really is.
- 44:31Speaker 7: Yeah, just a good personality, a smart guy.
- 44:34Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, not surprised at all the type of
- 44:39Speaker 6: career he's had, No.
- 44:41Speaker 9: And honestly it kind of didn't start.
- 44:44Speaker 5: You know.
- 44:44Speaker 9: He was a backup to start, and then he was
- 44:47Speaker 9: kind of like.
- 44:49Speaker 28: Swiss army knife top backup on the interior, backing up
- 44:52Speaker 28: all three spots and to see him blossom into like
- 44:55Speaker 28: a really good starting center for a long time is
- 44:58Speaker 28: pretty cool.
- 44:58Speaker 7: All right, So tell us about Access.
- 45:01Speaker 4: What have you learned?
- 45:02Speaker 9: Yeah, we heard from Mike Rabel. I heard from Drake May.
- 45:06Speaker 28: Obviously we heard from everybody, but those two spoke at
- 45:08Speaker 28: the podium this morning, and you know, Drake May really
- 45:13Speaker 28: doesn't seem like he's even thinking about the shoulder anymore.
- 45:16Speaker 9: At this point, so that that was good news.
- 45:19Speaker 4: You know.
- 45:19Speaker 28: Mike Rabel talked a little bit about football, but mostly
- 45:23Speaker 28: about nonsense and you know, asking questions about you know,
- 45:28Speaker 28: all sorts of different stuff.
- 45:30Speaker 9: But uh, you know, not yeah, not so much fun.
- 45:33Speaker 9: You weren't having it.
- 45:34Speaker 4: I mean, like you know, and discuss I.
- 45:38Speaker 28: Just I gotta I'm going to San Francisco, not to
- 45:40Speaker 28: like be on my soapbucks about it, but you know,
- 45:44Speaker 28: like we got to do a better job of who
- 45:46Speaker 28: we let into these press conferences. Like these people and
- 45:49Speaker 28: I'm not asking them to ask like hard hitting football
- 45:51Speaker 28: questions necessarily, but be professional with the questions that you're asking.
- 45:55Speaker 28: You know, like if somebody wants to ask something for
- 45:58Speaker 28: a human interest story, then like go for it. It's
- 46:00Speaker 28: not part of the gig. But sometimes I just feel like,
- 46:03Speaker 28: who let this person in here? Like you know, it's
- 46:05Speaker 28: it's it's kind of crazy.
- 46:07Speaker 7: But what else?
- 46:08Speaker 4: What else have you uh working on?
- 46:11Speaker 28: You know a couple of different things you know, Josh
- 46:13Speaker 28: McDaniels to talk to him a little bit. I think
- 46:17Speaker 28: one of the cool things about what's going on with
- 46:20Speaker 28: you know, the offense is that it's a lot of
- 46:22Speaker 28: the Brady offense, but then you just have this whole
- 46:25Speaker 28: nother dimension of Drake's mobility that just didn't exist before
- 46:28Speaker 28: with Brady.
- 46:29Speaker 9: So yeah, it was it was it was cool to uh.
- 46:33Speaker 28: To get McDaniels' perspective on you know, how they've added
- 46:37Speaker 28: that in and he actually prompted brought up the Cam
- 46:41Speaker 28: season and said that that was like his biggest exposure
- 46:44Speaker 28: to having a mobile quarterback. And obviously we talked about
- 46:48Speaker 28: the differences between Cam and and Drake May in terms
- 46:50Speaker 28: of their running style, but uh he uh, he was
- 46:54Speaker 28: pretty uh open about the fact that, you know, he
- 46:57Speaker 28: didn't really have a ton of experience with a dread
- 47:00Speaker 28: May style quarterback before and how that's kind of opened
- 47:04Speaker 28: up some avenues for them this year.
- 47:05Speaker 6: Yep, all right, anything else you know that you want
- 47:11Speaker 6: to talk about before we get into more calls and email.
- 47:14Speaker 28: I would say the only other thing, uh, obviously, you
- 47:17Speaker 28: know a couple of questions about Robert Splaine and his
- 47:20Speaker 28: availability and Rabel basically made it sound like that's gonna
- 47:24Speaker 28: be kind of a Saturday night, Sunday morning type of
- 47:27Speaker 28: decision of the roster spot. And you know, is he
- 47:30Speaker 28: going to be able to give it a go? And
- 47:32Speaker 28: if he can, you know, how what percentage?
- 47:34Speaker 4: You know?
- 47:34Speaker 7: So, why do you think is so certain? Well, he said,
- 47:38Speaker 7: I I wonder.
- 47:40Speaker 4: If he's trying to bargain his way in.
- 47:41Speaker 28: Yeah, I wonder if that's just the player in him.
- 47:44Speaker 28: You know, he's a competitor and he wants it's a
- 47:46Speaker 28: super Bowl. He wants to be out there. I'm sure,
- 47:49Speaker 28: But you know, I think Rabel's answer was maybe a
- 47:53Speaker 28: little bit more, not saying that he is ruling him
- 47:56Speaker 28: out or anything, but just a little bit more. Let's
- 47:59Speaker 28: see what happened over the next couple of days. Blaine
- 48:01Speaker 28: did say he's going to try to practice today and
- 48:04Speaker 28: and sort of test it out and see how it goes.
- 48:06Speaker 4: Okay, what time is practice? I'd go around two o'clock.
- 48:09Speaker 4: Two o'clock?
- 48:10Speaker 28: Yeah, yeah, so I have an injury report around like
- 48:11Speaker 28: four thirty five o'clock.
- 48:13Speaker 6: Okay, yep, sounds good. All right, It's eight five to
- 48:16Speaker 6: five pats five hundred for the hotline. Podcast at Patriots
- 48:19Speaker 6: dot com for the email address. Let's hit the phones
- 48:22Speaker 6: and see what people have to say. Uh, Joe and
- 48:25Speaker 6: Chicago's been holding on for a while. What's up, Joe? Hey?
- 48:31Speaker 29: Good, Hey, I just had a little quick question about
- 48:38Speaker 29: the ceremony tonight.
- 48:40Speaker 7: The honors NFL honors you're talking about.
- 48:43Speaker 29: Yeah, yeah, exactly, Yes, I'm just wondering if you guys
- 48:47Speaker 29: had a perspective on if that really weighs on the
- 48:53Speaker 29: players indoor coach, like in the.
- 48:56Speaker 30: Upcoming people, like if they win or not on like
- 49:01Speaker 30: their mindset, you know, if they win the award, if
- 49:04Speaker 30: they're going in alto year, if they lose the award,
- 49:06Speaker 30: they got a chip on their shoulders anything else.
- 49:10Speaker 6: I don't know. I don't know how much weight the
- 49:12Speaker 6: players now put on these these awards.
- 49:15Speaker 4: You know, did the Pictris even go to this award
- 49:17Speaker 4: ceremony or they.
- 49:18Speaker 7: Have No, I don't even think they'll be there.
- 49:19Speaker 4: I don't know. So I didn't Gilmour win Defensive Player
- 49:22Speaker 4: of the Year. I think he did. Yeah, the year
- 49:25Speaker 4: that we beat the Rams in the Super Bowl.
- 49:26Speaker 9: No, that was twenty nineteen, different year. Yeah, he wanted it.
- 49:29Speaker 28: In nineteen with the Boogeyman defense and the year after that.
- 49:33Speaker 28: But my I don't think.
- 49:35Speaker 9: That the players or the coaches will be there.
- 49:38Speaker 28: I think if they win, they submit like a video message,
- 49:41Speaker 28: you know, right, thanking everybody and whatnot.
- 49:44Speaker 9: But yeah, and I kind of agree with Fred.
- 49:46Speaker 10: I mean, I think the motivation at the Super Bowl
- 49:49Speaker 10: is to win and win a championship.
- 49:50Speaker 4: You know.
- 49:51Speaker 10: And you know, I'm sure that they have a chip
- 49:53Speaker 10: on their shoulder from what they've used, you know often
- 49:57Speaker 10: in the last few.
- 49:58Speaker 4: Weeks about the perceived black of respect.
- 50:00Speaker 10: You know, there's more people on Seattle in this game, right,
- 50:03Speaker 10: there's more people on Seattle than that. That's their motivation. Like,
- 50:06Speaker 10: it's not, well, I didn't win the MVP. I'm going
- 50:10Speaker 10: to show you know. I just don't see how that's
- 50:13Speaker 10: a big part of the motivation.
- 50:15Speaker 28: Yeah, maybe there would be, like a little bit if
- 50:17Speaker 28: they were playing the Rams and Stafford won the MVP
- 50:20Speaker 28: over May and.
- 50:21Speaker 4: And the defense really wants to show out.
- 50:24Speaker 9: And Drake manca show you play better than Stafford, or if.
- 50:27Speaker 8: Drake loses it and his offensive line says, you know,
- 50:30Speaker 8: they have some motivation.
- 50:31Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 50:32Speaker 4: I mean, these things, they're all I just think the
- 50:34Speaker 4: motivation is to win a title. That yeah, I agree,
- 50:37Speaker 4: that's great. I agree.
- 50:38Speaker 6: Yeah. Let's go to Peter in Tampa. What's up, Peter.
- 50:44Speaker 6: Where's it going, Peter?
- 50:48Speaker 31: Yes, sir, how you doing?
- 50:50Speaker 4: Time to talk on all right?
- 50:54Speaker 31: I want first I want to say thank you for
- 50:55Speaker 31: your show. I watched you often. You guys are great
- 50:58Speaker 31: and happy Super Bowl. I just wanted to make a
- 51:01Speaker 31: point about our k K. When the Patriots were back
- 51:05Speaker 31: at the Old Stadium and they were being blacked out,
- 51:07Speaker 31: I didn't want to not get to see my Patriots place,
- 51:11Speaker 31: so I went and bought tickets. In nineteen eighty seven,
- 51:14Speaker 31: then mister Kraft came along and stopped the Patriots from
- 51:18Speaker 31: moving to Saint Louis. He turned them into one of
- 51:21Speaker 31: the juggernauts of the NFL and the most vilified franchise
- 51:25Speaker 31: in the NFL. And I want to thank you for that.
- 51:28Speaker 31: And I think it's a travesty that he is not
- 51:30Speaker 31: in the Hall of Fame because in twenty eleven, when
- 51:33Speaker 31: there was a new collective boggaining agreement coming, that man
- 51:36Speaker 31: sat down with the NFL Players Association and talk to
- 51:40Speaker 31: those people, got the job done, and his wife was
- 51:43Speaker 31: sick and dying of cancer in the hospital, be in
- 51:48Speaker 31: the Hall of Fame.
- 51:49Speaker 6: I'm not smiling clear now, you're absolutely right, Peter. We're
- 51:53Speaker 6: all on board with that. Thanks for calling in, and
- 51:56Speaker 6: Peter should work for us, absolutely, but right now we're joined.
- 52:00Speaker 23: Uh.
- 52:00Speaker 6: Greg Rosenthal from the NFL nftwork NFL network. I was
- 52:05Speaker 6: gonna say, NFL dot com. It's kind I think the
- 52:08Speaker 6: same thing.
- 52:09Speaker 32: Whatever, It's all at least for right now altogether. Yeah,
- 52:12Speaker 32: let's do.
- 52:13Speaker 4: It's one of our Patriots guys on.
- 52:14Speaker 33: The former coworker, you know when back when he was
- 52:20Speaker 33: great research.
- 52:23Speaker 4: Right, did a stint over there.
- 52:25Speaker 28: Yeah, no, I worked well, not really with Greg directly,
- 52:30Speaker 28: but I knew he was a Patriots fan, so I
- 52:32Speaker 28: I might have, you know, hovered around his desk.
- 52:35Speaker 4: So what are your New England roots.
- 52:37Speaker 32: I grew up in Western mass Wilbraham, you know, through
- 52:40Speaker 32: through high school and everything.
- 52:42Speaker 33: First Patriots game was the Doug Flutey.
- 52:45Speaker 32: End around against the Colts my dad, so I was like,
- 52:49Speaker 32: it's one of the only games they won that year.
- 52:51Speaker 32: But it was like that that was an early sign
- 52:54Speaker 32: my my Patriots fandom was gonna be very lucky.
- 52:56Speaker 7: And was that the break break his legs game.
- 52:58Speaker 4: No, no, this was his first go round this Patriots around.
- 53:04Speaker 32: He is either his first or second win, but it
- 53:06Speaker 32: was it was an end around where he gets a
- 53:08Speaker 32: touchdown to beat the Colts with like an under two
- 53:10Speaker 32: minutes to go.
- 53:11Speaker 33: Is it was a rare bright spot in a rough.
- 53:13Speaker 9: Sea I remember.
- 53:16Speaker 6: All right, So, Greg, what's your thoughts on this game?
- 53:19Speaker 6: I know the Patriots are slight underdogs, but they are underdogs.
- 53:23Speaker 32: Yeah, And I'm glad you said slight because that's where
- 53:25Speaker 32: I am. And the feeling you get nationally and I
- 53:29Speaker 32: think among fans is that it's some crazy mismatch.
- 53:34Speaker 4: And why do you think that is?
- 53:36Speaker 32: Well, look, I'm I guess I'm part of the reason
- 53:38Speaker 32: why that is because I've said all year I thought
- 53:39Speaker 32: the Rams and.
- 53:40Speaker 34: Seahawks are the best two teams in the league that
- 53:42Speaker 34: special teams offense, defense.
- 53:45Speaker 32: Coaching thought they were about a tier above. But the
- 53:49Speaker 32: Patriots are right there in that next tier. And there's
- 53:51Speaker 32: a reason why they're playing their best defensive ball right now.
- 53:53Speaker 32: They're the reason why they're in this game, and it's
- 53:55Speaker 32: in its football and Seattle obviously has weaknesses you can
- 53:59Speaker 32: take advantage of I don't think they're like one of
- 54:00Speaker 32: the all time great teams, So I think they're a
- 54:03Speaker 32: slight favorite. But we've seen in these Super Bowls more
- 54:08Speaker 32: than a few times that like that doesn't really mean
- 54:11Speaker 32: anything to me. I think it's just a one game
- 54:14Speaker 32: who can figure out the right game plan, who comes
- 54:17Speaker 32: out fast, and I can easily see that being the Patriots.
- 54:19Speaker 10: So what specifically about Seattle would worry you most from
- 54:23Speaker 10: the Patriots' perspective.
- 54:25Speaker 32: Oh, the physicality and the secondary and the ability to
- 54:29Speaker 32: get pressure with four. They just all year really other
- 54:33Speaker 32: than the NFC Championship game, Like they mix their coverages
- 54:39Speaker 32: in such a crazy and inventive way on long yarded
- 54:44Speaker 32: situations in the back end, and they got six defensive
- 54:46Speaker 32: backs on the field. But they're so physical and they
- 54:49Speaker 32: match up so well, and then meanwhile you're having to
- 54:52Speaker 32: deal with Murphy and Leonard Williams in the middle. They're
- 54:55Speaker 32: kind of I think where it all comes from, those
- 54:57Speaker 32: two guys and just good players everywhere that you don't
- 55:00Speaker 32: know how to play to play basis who's gonna beat you?
- 55:02Speaker 32: And so they're fast, They've been really able to get
- 55:04Speaker 32: pressure with four with good scheme in the back end defensively,
- 55:08Speaker 32: Like that's a great formula that the Rams kind of
- 55:11Speaker 32: figured out in a way that almost no other teams did,
- 55:14Speaker 32: but that that was pretty rare and they got to
- 55:15Speaker 32: play him three times.
- 55:16Speaker 6: So I know the Patriots offense hasn't fared that well
- 55:20Speaker 6: during the playoffs for various reasons. But if you take
- 55:23Speaker 6: what they did during the season at their best, do
- 55:26Speaker 6: you think they have an answer to that?
- 55:28Speaker 7: You know, and let's include Drake May's.
- 55:30Speaker 32: Legs, Yes, because I think Seattle this year they have
- 55:34Speaker 32: given up some runs to just scrambling quarterbacks. Certainly, I
- 55:37Speaker 32: think if you're gonna beat them, you're gonna beat them
- 55:39Speaker 32: with big plays, like like the Rams did there. There's
- 55:42Speaker 32: been a couple of games this year like Drake May
- 55:45Speaker 32: is gonna throw it, like if they go down, he's
- 55:47Speaker 32: gonna go down swinging. So I think they've been an
- 55:50Speaker 32: explosive They're going for home runs all season, right, and
- 55:54Speaker 32: I think that's the way you kind of need to
- 55:56Speaker 32: beat Seattle. You'll probably have some short drives, but I
- 55:58Speaker 32: also think you could have some explosive plays where you
- 56:01Speaker 32: catch Witherspoon or Woolen one on one on the outside
- 56:05Speaker 32: and you see some big plays.
- 56:07Speaker 28: Okay, Craig, is there any player in this game that's
- 56:10Speaker 28: not Drake may or JSN or something that is kind
- 56:14Speaker 28: of like under the radar that you could see having
- 56:16Speaker 28: a big game in this one?
- 56:17Speaker 32: Okay, Well, I'm gonna go more on the negative side
- 56:21Speaker 32: for the Seahawks. Yeah, and that's Jake Sundell and Anthony
- 56:24Speaker 32: Bradford specifically, Like Bradford had one of the worst like
- 56:28Speaker 32: tapes you've ever seen in the NFC Championship game.
- 56:31Speaker 4: I mean it was it was crazy.
- 56:33Speaker 32: He He'll look like one of the best offensive linemen
- 56:36Speaker 32: you ever seen for about four plays a game, and
- 56:38Speaker 32: then the rest of it it's trouble. So Sundell is
- 56:41Speaker 32: also a guy who like a late round pick who's
- 56:44Speaker 32: playing well for them, won a camp battle, but since
- 56:46Speaker 32: he's come back from injury, hasn't looked great. So those
- 56:49Speaker 32: two guys, to me, are like the weakness of their
- 56:51Speaker 32: whole team and who they're going up against the strength
- 56:54Speaker 32: of the coatriots.
- 56:55Speaker 4: Seen it.
- 56:55Speaker 32: So I've really kind of been zero it in on
- 56:58Speaker 32: those two guys because I think they they could get
- 57:00Speaker 32: taken to the woodshed and it could mess up the
- 57:03Speaker 32: whole formula for.
- 57:04Speaker 6: My prediction is if the Patriots win, put your money
- 57:07Speaker 6: on Milton Williams's MVP.
- 57:09Speaker 9: He's got a real outside the box MVP.
- 57:11Speaker 4: Milton. For five bucks, you can win over a thousand dollars.
- 57:14Speaker 33: I don't think that's that crazy, I told him, And
- 57:17Speaker 33: I love to.
- 57:17Speaker 10: Make fun of Fred, That's kind of what I do
- 57:19Speaker 10: as a cottage industry. But as soon as you said that,
- 57:21Speaker 10: I've got that's a good bed, I mean smith.
- 57:24Speaker 32: One at the one time the Seahawks want and say
- 57:26Speaker 32: you never know that that that does not seem crazy
- 57:28Speaker 32: to me at all. I would love I was talking
- 57:30Speaker 32: last night with a couple of guys like we want
- 57:33Speaker 32: to see like a Jack west Over touch or a Tonga.
- 57:37Speaker 34: Touchdown to go you know, McDaniels and have something funky
- 57:41Speaker 34: and well, you know, you get Rabel who has caught
- 57:46Speaker 34: touchdown right in Super Bowls, you know, and I think
- 57:49Speaker 34: you know you talk about what edges, little edges does
- 57:52Speaker 34: each team have.
- 57:53Speaker 6: I think Rabel is an edge in that he's been
- 57:56Speaker 6: in big games as a player, had success, and hopefully
- 58:00Speaker 6: he can transfer that knowledge, you know, to the team.
- 58:03Speaker 32: I think that's absolutely right, especially when you're comparing the
- 58:06Speaker 32: offensive coordinators Clint Kobiak and McDaniels, Like, I just have
- 58:10Speaker 32: a much more of a confidence that mcdane is going
- 58:12Speaker 32: to just during the game. And I don't even think
- 58:15Speaker 32: it's a question how many trick plays that they have,
- 58:17Speaker 32: like they're coming into the game with some.
- 58:18Speaker 33: It's just how many they're actually going to use, how
- 58:20Speaker 33: many actually work.
- 58:21Speaker 28: We've been waiting for them to throw a past to
- 58:23Speaker 28: Tonga all year, you know, every time, I'm like, you're
- 58:27Speaker 28: going to catch one of these days. You know, you know,
- 58:31Speaker 28: Rabel is dying to throw a touchdown pass to defensive player.
- 58:35Speaker 33: You guys would know better than me.
- 58:36Speaker 32: I'm hoping it's Kyle Williams as the surprise guy, because, yeah,
- 58:39Speaker 32: I really think he's going to have a good career.
- 58:41Speaker 32: I really believe in his college state and and some
- 58:43Speaker 32: of the things he's shown, and so it would be
- 58:45Speaker 32: great for him to have that game.
- 58:46Speaker 4: I remember.
- 58:47Speaker 32: I'm sure you guys do too. Chris Wallace, who didn't
- 58:50Speaker 32: have a single Yeah, I don't think he caught a
- 58:54Speaker 32: regular season passing. His NFL three went over one hundred
- 58:56Speaker 32: in the Super Bowl wins to the Patriots. Matthews, Chris
- 59:00Speaker 32: Wallace ball.
- 59:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 59:03Speaker 6: Well, so they've used the flea flicker, they used the
- 59:06Speaker 6: direct snap, what they've used the uh fully special pass
- 59:11Speaker 6: to uh to May that didn't work. Well, what's left?
- 59:14Speaker 6: What do you think?
- 59:14Speaker 7: What do you think he's still doing?
- 59:15Speaker 10: I think it's exactly what Greg said, you know, like
- 59:18Speaker 10: a past to Tonga, a past to Montford, some kind
- 59:20Speaker 10: of tackle eligible.
- 59:21Speaker 9: We haven't really seen that.
- 59:22Speaker 4: Yeah, right, they have.
- 59:24Speaker 10: They've done a lot of trick plays and I agree
- 59:26Speaker 10: with you guys, they're gonna do another one in the
- 59:28Speaker 10: Super Bowl.
- 59:28Speaker 4: Maybe over simplifying it.
- 59:29Speaker 8: But this is what we've heard all week is how
- 59:31Speaker 8: do the Patriots make Sam Donald's he ghosts? I know
- 59:33Speaker 8: it's probably connected to what you said about the offensive line,
- 59:35Speaker 8: but is that the key getting him to hold the
- 59:37Speaker 8: ball and not get in that rhythm that he's capable of.
- 59:40Speaker 32: Yeah, I think it's mixing up the coverages like after
- 59:43Speaker 32: the snap and if you want it to be a
- 59:46Speaker 32: Patriots homer, which you guys like are paid and I
- 59:52Speaker 32: am not paid, exactly, I think the case you could
- 59:56Speaker 32: make is like Donald had seen that Rams defense three times,
- 59:59Speaker 32: he had seen that four nine Ers defense three times,
- 1:00:01Speaker 32: and he was very comfortable in what he was seeing
- 1:00:05Speaker 32: and he is a guy. I think we'll know in
- 1:00:07Speaker 32: the first quarter where like he was awesome in the
- 1:00:12Speaker 32: NFC Champion when I rewatched that game on on film
- 1:00:15Speaker 32: and everything, like, they actually got a lot of pressure
- 1:00:17Speaker 32: on him and he was great. He was playing confidently,
- 1:00:20Speaker 32: going through his reads fast. He can get gummed up
- 1:00:23Speaker 32: where he gets stuck on one or two and then
- 1:00:25Speaker 32: he just holding it. He has a bad player too early.
- 1:00:28Speaker 32: To me, the first two drives for the Patriots defense
- 1:00:31Speaker 32: are gonna be so telling because I think if he
- 1:00:32Speaker 32: starts off bad, he's not a guy that like gets
- 1:00:35Speaker 32: himself out.
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: Of it sometimes.
- 1:00:36Speaker 7: Yeah, good point.
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: Absolutely. How's the new office in Inglewood?
- 1:00:39Speaker 33: Treat and it's nice.
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: It's nice.
- 1:00:42Speaker 33: You were there in Culver City.
- 1:00:43Speaker 32: Yeah it was a little Yeah, that was a little different,
- 1:00:45Speaker 32: but we were all in the same newsroom together.
- 1:00:47Speaker 33: Yeah, that was fun Inglewood. You know, it's it's weird.
- 1:00:51Speaker 32: Right next to a Rams game and a Chargers game
- 1:00:53Speaker 32: is basically you're you're right there at the stadium.
- 1:00:56Speaker 9: I miss around the NFL. I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: I miss it.
- 1:00:59Speaker 28: It was is like when we go on road trips
- 1:01:02Speaker 28: and stuff like we don't get to really cover the
- 1:01:04Speaker 28: entire league very well. You guys just did such a
- 1:01:07Speaker 28: great job of every single game, you know, all sixteen
- 1:01:11Speaker 28: when there's no buys and things like that. Helpful for
- 1:01:14Speaker 28: people like us that are only focused really on one team.
- 1:01:17Speaker 28: But you can do a great job with your new
- 1:01:18Speaker 28: podcast too.
- 1:01:19Speaker 32: But yeah, NFL Daily, I mean I around the NFL
- 1:01:22Speaker 32: was great, you know, a great run. We're still we're
- 1:01:25Speaker 32: still recapping all the games here. We'll be on the
- 1:01:27Speaker 32: field after the game, so we only we talked to
- 1:01:29Speaker 32: the winning team. So hopefully yea, yeah, hope, hopefully I can.
- 1:01:34Speaker 32: It's not going to be grabbing like the top top players.
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: Hope.
- 1:01:37Speaker 32: Hopefully we can have a nice interview with Matt Collins
- 1:01:40Speaker 32: or something after the interview would be.
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: All right, Greg, appreciate.
- 1:01:47Speaker 7: Talking with you.
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: All right, Greg Rosenthal from NFL Network, it's been does
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: great work cover in the league.
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: Oh look at this another familiar face.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: What's up?
- 1:01:58Speaker 7: Brian Brian Hoyer joins Patriots unfiltered.
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: Right, what's up, guys, you tell me what's up?
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: I'm great? This is incredible.
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: Huh yeah, oh yeah, given n.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I mean that's my legal name.
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: Have you been to radio role before.
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: The only time I ever did it is in twenty
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: It would have been the twenty thirteen season. I was
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: playing for Cleveland and they took me to do a
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: few things and basically walk around and and just hit
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: a bunch of different stuff. So, you know, the other
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: times I've been in the Super Bowl, it's been on
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: the team, so never really get to experience it.
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: So it's pretty cool, No, it's it's pretty wild.
- 1:02:34Speaker 9: Nice humble brack there.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: Yeah, Fred and I usually do that, but this is
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: more impressive. Yeah.
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: So I know you've been, you know, doing stuff with
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: the team h for a couple of years now. But
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: for those people who don't watch TV anymore, uh, you know,
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: tell us what you think about this twenty twenty five Patriots.
- 1:02:52Speaker 6: I mean, just an amazing turnaround from four wins.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been truly incredible.
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: Look, I was one, you know, I do a lot
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: of differ media things, and I kind of said I
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: think they could win eight to twelve games that's where
- 1:03:04Speaker 5: and people thought I was crazy. But I looked at
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: Mike Rabil, I looked at Josh McDaniels. I thought they
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: very selectively brought in really good pieces and free agency,
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: especially on the defense side of the ball. Morgan Moses
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: on the offense side of the ball. I thought they
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: drafted really well, so I had a little bit more
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: of a better outlook. And I think what happened was,
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: and Brave said this last week, like we kind of
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: established a culture and a vision and they believed it
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: before they could see the results, and then all of
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: a sudden you start seeing the results and it just
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: catches wildfire. And I mean, how many games in the
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: row did they win? Nine on the road, And they've
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: just been resilient. And the one thing I would say,
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: and sometimes I gotta have to question myself, like is
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: this bias because obviously still associated with the organization, just
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: not that far removed, But I would say they've been
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: the most consistent team out of any NFL team this season.
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: They've just consistently gotten better. They've never lost a game
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: where they just didn't look in complete disarray. There was
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: a point against Vegas in Week one where you were like,
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: all right, I don't know, but there was some really
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: good football that week too. So they've been consistent, they've
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: gotten better, and they've been, to me, a complete team
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: and That's why I think the Super Bowl is so
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: interesting because I would say Seattle is the same way.
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: These are two of the best teams, not just units.
- 1:04:22Speaker 5: Like you could say the Rams were the best offense,
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: but their defense was just so so. But the Patriots
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: and the Seahawks, when you look at especially I'm not
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: a big stats and rankings guy, both sides of the ball,
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: they're at the they're in the top.
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: And and and everything.
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: And the other thing that I think they did well is,
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: you know, you've been around the league enough. When a
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: team brings in as many free agents as the Patriots did,
- 1:04:43Speaker 6: it's rare that they all kind of pan out. It
- 1:04:45Speaker 6: maybe half if you're lucky, pan out. But they everything
- 1:04:49Speaker 6: they've done this offseason seemed to hit, including the draft picks,
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: you know, for the most part. And that's rare, I think.
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: And part of it, I think is coaching. They got
- 1:04:59Speaker 6: these players in the right positions to succeed, but personnel evaluation,
- 1:05:03Speaker 6: it all goes into it. I think that's contributed so
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: much to their success as well.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: I would agree.
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: I mean, I think that's you have to give a
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: credit to obviously Elliott wolf Rabel, those guys who are
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: making those decisions, and sometimes it's not always.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: About the biggest name. It's the best fit, right.
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: So like when they sign Splaine, I played with with
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: with ull spill out in Vegas. I was like, this
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: guy is a beast, Like the fans are gonna love him.
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: He's a perfect fit for what they do. You go
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: and get Harold Landry, who I've always had a ton
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: of respect for. Like, you go into a game plan
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: and Tennessee's got Landry, Like I got to know about
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: this guy.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: He knows Rabel, he knows the system.
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: You get Morgan Moses, who you know was in New
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: York with Todd Downing, so there's some familiarity there. Uh,
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: you draft obviously Will Campbell, Jerry Wilson. Uh, you get
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: Trayvon get him going. It took a while, but he
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: and and I know it's kind of hasn't been as
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: good in the past few weeks, but there's been signs there.
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: Kyle Williams, he hasn't he hasn't played a lot, but
- 1:05:56Speaker 5: when he's he's made an impact.
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: It's been here even guy down the Woodson, Yeah, oh.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: What has been phenomenal?
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: Like when when Devin mccordy is is tweeting about him
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: and saying he's a he's a legit player, like this
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: is the greatest safety in Patriot's history, Like he respects
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: and knows what this guy's doing. So you're right, Like
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: I can't remember in recent years of a team just
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: kind of and they're not all superstars, but they're role players.
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: Who play their role really well.
- 1:06:21Speaker 6: And it contributes to what you said consistency. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:06:24Speaker 6: weekend and week.
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: Out, Brian.
- 1:06:25Speaker 28: I know you watched Drake, you know, kind of grow
- 1:06:28Speaker 28: here aslong with all of us. What have you seen
- 1:06:30Speaker 28: his biggest area of improvement from yere one tier or
- 1:06:33Speaker 28: two has just been a meteoric improvement.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: It feels like, well, first and foremost, I was impressed
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: with Drake last year, being in a not so great situation,
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: how he handled himself and I think that earned a
- 1:06:44Speaker 5: lot of respect from the guys in the locker room.
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: When you hear like Hunter Henry and he the way
- 1:06:48Speaker 5: he talks about him, And there's not many guys that
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: I respect more than Hunter. Haven't played with him and
- 1:06:52Speaker 5: his understanding of offensive football the game, and you would
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: see how he would talk about him and how Drake
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: carried himself and look biased or not when they sign.
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: When Josh McDaniels came back, I was like, this kid
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: is gonna have a tremendous year now MVP level. I
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: don't think anyone could have really foresaw that. But he
- 1:07:11Speaker 5: is so mature beyond his years, and the way he
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: handles the pressure of it all. Has this been truly incredible.
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: Sometimes I have to like pinch myself and be like,
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: Drake's closer in age to my thirteen year old son
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: than he is to me.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: I mean, he just doesn't carry himself that way.
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: And you know, even when things get rough, he just
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: kind of hangs on and it doesn't affect him and
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: he just keeps battling through it. And so that I
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: think you've got to give credit to like Ashton Grant,
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: Riley Lark and the guys who have worked with him
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: on his fundamentals.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: You know, I think he's so much better in the pocket.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: His feet aren't all over the place.
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: And the thing that has really amazed me is the
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: understanding of not trying to force to run the ball,
- 1:07:49Speaker 5: let it come naturally.
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: Step up in the pocket when I see a lane
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: take it.
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: We all saw Rabel micd Up saying, hey, you might
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: have to make a few plays with your feet here,
- 1:07:56Speaker 5: like he understands how to play the game the right way,
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: and you pair Jo and that system with his skill set,
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: it's been incredible.
- 1:08:02Speaker 8: You mentioned Josh's system, Brian, I've been sitting on this
- 1:08:04Speaker 8: question for a while and I'm sorry to take it back,
- 1:08:06Speaker 8: but you said something on TV that really picked my
- 1:08:08Speaker 8: interest in. Evan and I have talked a lot about
- 1:08:10Speaker 8: the Josh's offense, and you said I've seen what Josh's
- 1:08:13Speaker 8: offense looks like with DeVante Adams with a true number one,
- 1:08:16Speaker 8: And I really I was WSA like could jump through
- 1:08:17Speaker 8: the TV because I wanted to ask you, like, what
- 1:08:19Speaker 8: does that kind of player do to Josh's offense?
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: It's just to me, when you have a guy with
- 1:08:24Speaker 5: that skill set, it's he and and DeVante's unique because
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: he's not just an X, He's not just a zee.
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: We had plays where he's in the slot like that.
- 1:08:33Speaker 5: To a defense is scary because where's he gonna be
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: first and foremost if we want to try to take
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: them away?
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: Are we doubling him? Are we trying to cloud him?
- 1:08:40Speaker 13: Now?
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: All of a sudden, he's on the other side of
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: the field, you know, similar going back to what Moss
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: did in that first year with Josh, I think no
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: one had ever seen that before. Like Randy had always
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: been an outside player. Now he's in the slot, he's
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: running up on the safety and has a two way go.
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: So having a guy like that, it really what it
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: does is it makes everybody else's job a little bit easier.
- 1:08:59Speaker 5: Right if the atten drawn to someone like that, you
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: get a few easier completions to some other guys, and ultimately,
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: when the look is there to throw it to him,
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: you just let it rip and throw it to him.
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: So it was interesting. Obviously it didn't work out. It
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: was it for a short time. But man, when I
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: was in those practices with Davante, I was like, this
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: is incredible.
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: I know, we went to joint practices, but on the sidelines,
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: and I'm like, oh my god. Even mac hollins impressed me.
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: Yeah, And that year I was still on the Patriots
- 1:09:21Speaker 5: when we went out for that joint practice and I
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: remember watching like, aren't like, do we realize that's Davante?
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: Are we going to try to cover this guy with
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: more than one guy? And they couldn't and we knew
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: you knew where the ball was going.
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: Poor Jalen Mills, he was a couple. J Mills get so.
- 1:09:36Speaker 10: When you when you look at this game and you
- 1:09:37Speaker 10: look at Seattle offensively, do you see the kind of impact.
- 1:09:42Speaker 10: I know they're different players, but with JSN, is he
- 1:09:45Speaker 10: opening things up like that?
- 1:09:46Speaker 13: Yeah?
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: Jasn, I think he's so unique.
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: And I don't know if you guys watched the game
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: the broadcast, but Tom really broke it down really well.
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: Brady.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: This guy his his shoulder level, his plane never moves.
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: And so when you're a dB and the guy's running
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: all over the place and he can break left, right,
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: go vertical, stop and nothing.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Ever changes, it's so hard for dbs to guard him.
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: Now, I will say, you know a lot of his
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: production comes off of play action pass and so what
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: does that mean? That means the offense is over committing
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: to the run, which we all know it's a West
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: Coast system. Klink Kubiak has done a phenomenal job. The
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: Patriots key this week has to be how do we
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: prevent them from just running the ball where we have
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: to over commit? And I did find it pretty interesting.
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: Kenneth Walker's actually better against stacked boxes than he is
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: against light boxes. So I think if you're the Patriots,
- 1:10:33Speaker 5: that kind of can work to your advantage. If you
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: can hold a shell defend him with a light box
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: where he's actually been less productive. Maybe that gives you
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: a little bit extra coverage. You roll the coverage a
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: cover two to JSN or now all of a sudden
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: you go to man. Is it like the old school
- 1:10:48Speaker 5: Patriots that I was on, where maybe you take Davis
- 1:10:51Speaker 5: and you put him on JSN and Man and you
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: lean a safety that way and then now all of
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: a sudden, Gonzalez is covering Cooper Cup like where do
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: you throw the football? So it's going to I'm intrigued
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: to see how they're going to defend the Seattle Offen.
- 1:11:03Speaker 6: Why do you think Walker's uh better? Not as good
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: against lighter boxes.
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: But he's not as big of a runner, right like
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: they had sharbon Ay and Sharbona was there. It was
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: their heavy back and and Kenneth who is more of
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: like a slash and cut runner. I think sometimes you
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: get those you get those light boxes, all of a sudden,
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: you feel like you can go a certain way, and
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: all of a sudden there's a corner there to you know,
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: when you have to run into a stacked box, if
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: you can take care of the safety, you've actually now
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: taken a guy out of the middle of the field,
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: and that's.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Where he gets those explosive runs.
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: You know what I mean.
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: I think that's that's the thing is when you're when
- 1:11:37Speaker 5: you bring a safety down in the box, it actually
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: makes it easier for the receiver to go dig them
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: out and block them. Now you're kind of leaving him
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: one on one with the corner.
- 1:11:44Speaker 8: Okay, the other side of the ball. What do you
- 1:11:46Speaker 8: see from Seattle's defense? How are they going to challenge Drake?
- 1:11:48Speaker 8: What do they got to do to beat me?
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: They're phenomenal.
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: I think it's it's it's every level of defense you got, obviously,
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: Leonard Williams Murphy like, those guys are generating a rush
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: and they're not having to blitz a lot.
- 1:11:58Speaker 13: Right.
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: So now the kind of goes back to Legion of Boom.
- 1:12:01Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: You go back to that game with the Super Bowl
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: and Brady and I've heard the stories. I wasn't there
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: for it, like Tom was, like on my back foot,
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: I'm looking to one and two and the ball's coming out,
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: like I know what covers they're running, I know the
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: rush is gonna get here. I have to be on
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: time and I so I have to imagine that. For
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: the past two weeks, Josh has been sitting there with
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: a clicker in his hand with Drake and saying, Drake,
- 1:12:21Speaker 5: when I call these quick dropback passes one two three,
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: one two or run or throw it away? Like we
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: can't take the sacks like he's taken and I get it.
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: It's been a gauntlet of defenses and it's not gonna
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: be any easier on Sunday, So it will be interesting.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Obviously, we've all.
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: Seen this news about m and Worry, like what is
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: he kind of makes that whole thing go because he's
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: this hybrid player, right, they don't want to play bas defense,
- 1:12:45Speaker 5: So what are they gonna do.
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: When the Patriots put Hamilton?
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: Right, when the Patriots put jumbo personnel or thirteen personnel
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: and now m and Worry.
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: Who knows what his status is? Like do you have
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: to play base defense?
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: Because that, to me, Josh has to be thinking of
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: how many different ways can I get them to play
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: base defense? They don't want to do it. What personnel grouping.
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: Can I unlock to get them in that where maybe
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: they're not as comfortable?
- 1:13:08Speaker 28: Yeah, they we were talking about that yesterday because they
- 1:13:11Speaker 28: don't blink like you put six offensive linemen on the field.
- 1:13:14Speaker 9: They're matching it in nickel.
- 1:13:16Speaker 28: But if Amin Warrior doesn't play or is limited or
- 1:13:18Speaker 28: anything like that, it completely brings it down. I want
- 1:13:21Speaker 28: to bring you back to JSN for a second, because
- 1:13:22Speaker 28: the one thing I've seen on film with with teams
- 1:13:25Speaker 28: that have had success with him is clouding his side
- 1:13:27Speaker 28: of the field and pressing him and then putting the
- 1:13:29Speaker 28: safety over the top. From a quarterback's perspective, if your
- 1:13:32Speaker 28: number one guy is getting that kind of attention, do
- 1:13:35Speaker 28: you just start someplace else?
- 1:13:37Speaker 9: Do you try to feed them the ball?
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: Anyways? What do you do there?
- 1:13:40Speaker 5: Well, to me, like you know this and this goes
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: back to the whole progression read versus oone coverage read
- 1:13:45Speaker 5: like all of those things. When when it's when a
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: defense is playing zone, you're not really looking for players
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: as opposed to where am I going to start with
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: the progression? And so sometimes if if they cloud his side,
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: you know, and if he's on the front side and
- 1:13:59Speaker 5: he's running a certain round that's not great against cover too.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: You get off of it very quickly.
- 1:14:02Speaker 5: Sometimes he could be the backside of the progression. And
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: you know, I think a cloud covers. It's it's kind
- 1:14:07Speaker 5: of limited in what you can try to. You can
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: try to get him inside and run in cuts, and
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: now you've got to high low linebackers. How are you
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: affecting him that way? You know, the old cliche is,
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: there's our boy, cam ask if I love I love him.
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: I'm not sure he's our boy right now. Don't don't
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: put it past that. It's not for the entertainment. But
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: you can try to high low the corner. But that
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: at this level, high lowing really good corners in the
- 1:14:34Speaker 5: NFL becomes tough, and so you can kind of make
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: quarterbacks shy away from throwing there unless they have the
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: right play call.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: I mean, there's certain calls that you want against Cover two.
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: So if they if that aligns with the timing of
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: the play call and the defense, you may go there.
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: If it doesn't, now all of a sudden, you're you're
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: maybe you're going to Cooper Cup or Barner or whatever
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: it might be.
- 1:14:53Speaker 28: Yeah, the last question I wanted to ask I remember
- 1:14:55Speaker 28: Super Bowl fifty three, all the guys were giving you
- 1:14:58Speaker 28: a lot of credit for running the scout team that
- 1:15:00Speaker 28: week in mimicking the Rams and stuff like that. He
- 1:15:04Speaker 28: just explained like the process of that and how you
- 1:15:06Speaker 28: go about preparing to run a Scott team.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: I mean, I loved it for me early on in
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: my career.
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: Obviously, backing up Tom, I wasn't really going to get
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: a chance to play unless something happened to him, and
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: he was like the toughest guy ever, so you know
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: you're never gonna play. So those were your reps and
- 1:15:19Speaker 5: you got to, for me as a young player, experiment
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: what you can get away with at the.
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: NFL level against NFL players.
- 1:15:25Speaker 5: Going back to that Super Bowl week, you know, you
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: have a lot of time because your family's not around,
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: you still have to have an off dawn Tuesday, and
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: I remember sitting in my room and just scrolling through
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: the internet and there was an article about the Rams
- 1:15:37Speaker 5: kind of did like an inside the training camp thing,
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: and I'm like, let me click on this, and I
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: watch it and mcveigh's miked up with Goff and he's
- 1:15:44Speaker 5: calling the plays and obviously they cut pieces out, but
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: I'm like this is the offense I ran with Kyle. Yeah,
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: like I know with full confidence when we go out
- 1:15:51Speaker 5: there and I can talk to the mccordy's, I can
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: talk to High Tower, I can talk to Chung, I
- 1:15:56Speaker 5: can talk to b Flow or Bill or Ernie and say, like,
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: you know, if you do this, they don't really have
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: an answer for it. Or if you you know, showed
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: this coverage and all of a sudden late you know,
- 1:16:06Speaker 5: mcveisen in Golf's helmet telling them like, okay, they're in
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: cover four. I think this, and all of a sudden
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: it switches on the snap. It could really throw them off.
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: And when you're the back quarterback and you don't play
- 1:16:15Speaker 5: in the game, it's great that you're part of a
- 1:16:17Speaker 5: super Bow winning team, but you feel like, man, did
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: I really contribute and so to be able that week,
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: and and Devin and Jason you know, did an article
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: after that.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: Really gave gave me credit for it.
- 1:16:27Speaker 5: It actually validated, you know, me being on the team
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: and made me feel part of the wins.
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:16:31Speaker 28: No, I not to gats you up at all, but
- 1:16:33Speaker 28: I remember being in the locker room after the game
- 1:16:34Speaker 28: and everybody was saying it like Hoyer like helped.
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: That's tremendous.
- 1:16:38Speaker 5: Hey, look that was and to me and bring it
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: back to this year's Patriots, it's all about the team.
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: What can you do to help the team win?
- 1:16:45Speaker 5: And I think from from early on you saw that
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: these guys are unique in the fact that they care
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: for one another.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: They're playing for one another. Rabel has inspired them in
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: a way.
- 1:16:54Speaker 5: He's there greeting them after the game where he can
- 1:16:57Speaker 5: be hard on them and they understand it's for their
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: best interest and they embrace that.
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: And I think it's you can't there's.
- 1:17:02Speaker 5: No statistic for it, there's no measurable for it, but
- 1:17:04Speaker 5: you can see it when they play football. They're playing,
- 1:17:07Speaker 5: uh at a different level because.
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: Of the culture.
- 1:17:10Speaker 10: Thank god it was it was Brian Hoyer was the
- 1:17:12Speaker 10: backup and not Scott Zas what happened.
- 1:17:17Speaker 9: He wouldn't have been watching.
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: Yeah, this media stuff, I love it.
- 1:17:23Speaker 5: I mean it becomes so natural because I think when
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: you're a quarterback in the NFL for as long as
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: I was, and as a starter, obviously, you have to
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: get up and talk to the media each and every week,
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: not only you know, during the week press conference, but
- 1:17:35Speaker 5: after the game. Win, lose, whatever it might be. And
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: ultimately my goal in this is to be very analytical
- 1:17:41Speaker 5: and not be critical. That's that's been my goals as
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: a media analyst is watch the film, try to understand
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: what's happening, and and then try to enlighten people from
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: my perspective. And I think, having played in a lot
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: of different systems organizations, not everything's the same, you know.
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: I think the one thing that I always saw was
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: how a play is run in San Francisco and how
- 1:18:03Speaker 5: a play is run in New England. It could be
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: the same play on paper, but how it's taught could
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: be two different things. And I think people for me,
- 1:18:09Speaker 5: i'd like to, you know, express that and let people know,
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: and I like to talk.
- 1:18:14Speaker 7: So now you're you're you're, you're good at it.
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: So thank you.
- 1:18:17Speaker 9: We've had a lot of fun with you.

- 1:25:43Speaker 4: All right?
- 1:25:44Speaker 6: Back here on Patriots Unfiltered. It is Evan Deuces around
- 1:25:48Speaker 6: somewhere there. He's talking to Brian Holloway over there. He's
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: fans here, Anthony and Matt behind the scenes fatists getting
- 1:25:55Speaker 6: us waters. All right, that was Brian Hoyer. We had
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: Teddy Carris.
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: What else did we have?
- 1:26:02Speaker 28: We had Greg Rosenthal Rohal little guy. Yes, yes, he
- 1:26:07Speaker 28: is kindred spirits. Yeah, you guys go back a long
- 1:26:11Speaker 28: way we do. My first job out of college was
- 1:26:15Speaker 28: putting together research notes for for Greg.
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: And all right, our phone thing went down, Matt, I loved,
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: I love talking football.
- 1:26:23Speaker 9: Brian Hoyr though that he's he's really very good.
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: And you know, like he's he's well spoken, yep, so
- 1:26:30Speaker 6: that like you don't have to pass through uh, you know,
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: words that are misused and everything like that. He's he
- 1:26:37Speaker 6: knows what he's talking about and he talks it well.
- 1:26:39Speaker 28: Yeah, when he comes in for for what all access
- 1:26:42Speaker 28: and whatever. I try to have like one question to
- 1:26:45Speaker 28: ask him every time, and uh, and he one time
- 1:26:49Speaker 28: we were in the downstairs and KSP and I was
- 1:26:53Speaker 28: asking him about Drake May's some of the drops that
- 1:26:56Speaker 28: he was taking and he was literally doing the footwork
- 1:26:59Speaker 28: right in the middle of the hallway. It was pretty cool.
- 1:27:02Speaker 28: He's very generous with his time.
- 1:27:04Speaker 9: Nice guy.
- 1:27:04Speaker 10: Yeah, and the knowledge, the background that he has with
- 1:27:07Speaker 10: the West Coast from his time in San Francisco and
- 1:27:09Speaker 10: whatnot has been invaluable.
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: Yeah, and just the way he explains it.
- 1:27:13Speaker 10: Yeah, because there's a lot it's they're very cumbersome play calls.
- 1:27:17Speaker 10: There's a lot of a lot of verbiage, and he
- 1:27:19Speaker 10: makes it nice. You guys said, he makes it a lot,
- 1:27:21Speaker 10: a lot easier to understand.
- 1:27:22Speaker 28: It's interesting what he said Fred about watching their uh
- 1:27:26Speaker 28: like miked up stuff for the rams and picking up
- 1:27:29Speaker 28: things from the.
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: That miked up. Immediately thought to myself, don't tell Rabel that.
- 1:27:34Speaker 28: Yeah, Yeah, that was uh that that that was a
- 1:27:37Speaker 28: little bit illuminating of like, don't give away too much,
- 1:27:40Speaker 28: you know.
- 1:27:42Speaker 6: Podcasts at Patriots dot com is the way to email us,
- 1:27:44Speaker 6: Ben and Bridgewater writes in a long time listener, listen
- 1:27:47Speaker 6: to the podcast religiously every week. All I wanted to say,
- 1:27:52Speaker 6: the next episode of Fortune Foxbro is going to be ridiculous. Ben,
- 1:27:58Speaker 6: You're absolutely right, win or lose. I'll tell you that
- 1:28:01Speaker 6: the next episode is gonna be ridiculous. Obviously, if we win,
- 1:28:04Speaker 6: it's over the top. But we've got some great stuff
- 1:28:07Speaker 6: that we've already shot. So we're gonna have that episode
- 1:28:12Speaker 6: four coming out after the season and people are gonna
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: love it. I can't wait for that, and we're already
- 1:28:18Speaker 6: working on it next season. You know, the college All
- 1:28:21Speaker 6: Star games have already happened and we had coverage down there.
- 1:28:25Speaker 6: We'll be getting ready for the Combine. So as soon
- 1:28:27Speaker 6: as this season is over, we're rolling into twenty twenty six.
- 1:28:31Speaker 9: Don't remind me. I know I'm very behind.
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:28:35Speaker 6: I love the various This is Eric and Albuquerque. I
- 1:28:38Speaker 6: love the various metaphors used today for describing game types.
- 1:28:42Speaker 6: I'd like your thoughts on the most likely Super Bowl
- 1:28:45Speaker 6: game type. Will it be a boat race, a rock fight,
- 1:28:49Speaker 6: a shootout, or a barn burner.
- 1:28:53Speaker 28: I'm go I think I'm kinda trending towards rock fight, honestly, Okay,
- 1:28:57Speaker 28: and I don't necessarily mean that it's gonna be six
- 1:29:00Speaker 28: to three, But like, I think these two defenses are
- 1:29:03Speaker 28: really really good.
- 1:29:04Speaker 7: So is barn burner shootout kind of the same.
- 1:29:07Speaker 10: I would say a shootout is very high scoring. A
- 1:29:11Speaker 10: barn burner means is going down to the wire. Oh,
- 1:29:13Speaker 10: it isn't necessarily so I might be a slight differentiation.
- 1:29:16Speaker 10: But I kind of agree with Evan now that he
- 1:29:18Speaker 10: said it, because my original thought with rock fight was
- 1:29:20Speaker 10: it's going to be too many points. Yeah, but I
- 1:29:21Speaker 10: would say, and see if you guys agree with me.
- 1:29:24Speaker 10: The first Patriots Seattle super Bowl twenty eight, twenty four,
- 1:29:27Speaker 10: I would have I would consider that a rock fight. Yeah,
- 1:29:29Speaker 10: even though there were pl you know, there were points.
- 1:29:31Speaker 10: I mean they both got to the mid twenties.
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I could. It wasn't low scoring per se. I
- 1:29:36Speaker 4: could see it like that.
- 1:29:38Speaker 28: But uh, I don't know what he's trying to tell me.
- 1:29:40Speaker 28: But Barth is trying to tell me something. OPTI really
- 1:29:43Speaker 28: it really is unbelievable. They just they can't even be
- 1:29:45Speaker 28: They can't bear to be a part. Even when Evan's
- 1:29:48Speaker 28: on the air, he has to be connected.
- 1:29:51Speaker 7: Well, did you see the Ithaca guys walking around?
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: Yeah? Told an interview.
- 1:29:55Speaker 28: Oh god, yeah I did see them. And Alex is
- 1:29:58Speaker 28: much better about that than I am.
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: I Yeah, they were.
- 1:30:00Speaker 10: They were well versed on Alix so much because I
- 1:30:03Speaker 10: just think they feel they can't they can't attain you.
- 1:30:05Speaker 28: No, No, it's not that he's He's much better at
- 1:30:08Speaker 28: like staying connected to the school and stuff like that
- 1:30:11Speaker 28: than I am. But yeah, I just kind of I
- 1:30:15Speaker 28: don't know if i'd necessarily, Like I said, I don't
- 1:30:17Speaker 28: think it's going to be ten to seven like the
- 1:30:18Speaker 28: AFC Championship game, But like, is it a twenty to
- 1:30:22Speaker 28: seventeen game where the defenses kind of win the game, right,
- 1:30:26Speaker 28: you know, but it's offensively maybe there's a couple drives
- 1:30:29Speaker 28: in there, maybe there's a defensive or special teams touchdown,
- 1:30:32Speaker 28: Like both these teams have defenses and special teams units
- 1:30:36Speaker 28: that can score points, you know, especially in the return
- 1:30:39Speaker 28: game with Jones and Shaheeds, So like it could it
- 1:30:42Speaker 28: be one of those types of games where, yeah, it's
- 1:30:44Speaker 28: technically twenty seventeen, which isn't terribly low scoring, but you
- 1:30:48Speaker 28: kind of get there because of the defenses more than
- 1:30:50Speaker 28: you do the offenses.
- 1:30:53Speaker 6: Eric says, I'm hoping for Patriots dominated boat race, but
- 1:30:57Speaker 6: I think that's highly unlikely. I'll settle for a shootout.
- 1:31:00Speaker 6: I feel like Sam has a higher chance of buckling
- 1:31:02Speaker 6: under the pressure. So that's Eric and Albuquerque.
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: Thanks Matisse.
- 1:31:08Speaker 6: Yeah, let's see Eddie and La fred. I love you
- 1:31:14Speaker 6: to give a taste of my parlay hits. Let me
- 1:31:17Speaker 6: know what the gang thinks. I put down Mare over
- 1:31:21Speaker 6: sixty nine and a half rushing plus receiving yards.
- 1:31:25Speaker 7: I like it.
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: That's a good one. I like that if it's only
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: sixty nine and a half.
- 1:31:29Speaker 6: Yeah, I think he's But this is a parlay, so
- 1:31:32Speaker 6: not individually. So now you have to hit the rest.
- 1:31:34Speaker 9: Okay, sorry, so that's one.
- 1:31:36Speaker 6: I guess this is a full leg. That's what they
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: call a four legg parlay.
- 1:31:40Speaker 4: Yeah good, I mean, yeah, that's that's what the shops
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: call it.
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: Okay, Mac Hollins over twenty six and a hay receiving yards,
- 1:31:47Speaker 6: Kenneth Walker over two and a half receptions, and Rashid
- 1:31:51Speaker 6: Shaheed over zero point five carries.
- 1:31:55Speaker 7: So you got to hit on all four.
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: I think that's pretty good.
- 1:31:57Speaker 9: I mean hermandre over sixty nine and a half.
- 1:31:59Speaker 28: I think it's kind of a lock because I think
- 1:32:01Speaker 28: he's gonna catch a lot of checkdowns out of the backfield,
- 1:32:04Speaker 28: because that's really what Seattle gives up. You know, they
- 1:32:06Speaker 28: don't give up the big plays. But you might be
- 1:32:08Speaker 28: able to, you know, chip away at them with little
- 1:32:10Speaker 28: dump bops to remandre underneath their zone. So I think
- 1:32:14Speaker 28: that he's gonna probably go way over that, but more
- 1:32:16Speaker 28: so because of the pass catching than the running.
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: And I think the one that could screw you up
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: here is three catches to Kenneth Walker.
- 1:32:22Speaker 6: No, MATC Collins over twenty six and a half yards,
- 1:32:25Speaker 6: Like you might have a couple catches.
- 1:32:27Speaker 28: I like that, Like, oh you do, okay, Well, if
- 1:32:29Speaker 28: if he hits one of those, you know, twenty yard incuts,
- 1:32:33Speaker 28: you know that's most of it right there.
- 1:32:35Speaker 7: So maybe yep, Jordan wants to know.
- 1:32:38Speaker 6: Just wondered if you know if the Patriots will continue
- 1:32:40Speaker 6: the streak of Super Bowls entering the field to crazy
- 1:32:43Speaker 6: train or because we're now in a new era, we'd
- 1:32:45Speaker 6: enter into a new song.
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: No, they've gone back to yasuly what they use. I
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: think they'll stick with that.
- 1:32:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: I think they'll do what they've been doing all year.
- 1:32:53Speaker 10: So I would just say an opening night Monday night,
- 1:32:55Speaker 10: when the Patriots came out, it was crazy.
- 1:32:57Speaker 9: It was correct.
- 1:32:59Speaker 8: Yeah, the play guys. I just saw Martha Stewart over there.
- 1:33:03Speaker 8: Oh really, she's a snoop here. I was like, who's
- 1:33:05Speaker 8: getting these pictures and I'm like, who's that lady. I'd
- 1:33:07Speaker 8: love to talk to her about slot. Soap with the slot, and.
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: I have a business opportunity for you. Yeah, I'm soap
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: with a slot.
- 1:33:17Speaker 9: Just big Martha fan. Big Martha fan has a bunch
- 1:33:20Speaker 9: of Martha Stewart items.
- 1:33:22Speaker 6: I mean, she's hard, she's done time, she's done time,
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: right yeah, right, well, yeah.
- 1:33:27Speaker 33: The mountain from Game of Thrones is walking around.
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: Oh no, really it is huge. I mean yeah, oh,
- 1:33:34Speaker 4: I'd like to see that. I'd like to see that.
- 1:33:38Speaker 13: What is that?
- 1:33:39Speaker 4: Well, you know, well, guys, I appreciate you humoring me
- 1:33:41Speaker 4: there for a second.
- 1:33:42Speaker 8: I got in a conversation with Brian Holloway nineteen eighty
- 1:33:45Speaker 8: five Patriots, and let's just say he gave me some
- 1:33:47Speaker 8: really interesting information that even after doing a ten part
- 1:33:51Speaker 8: podcast about the season, that I was not aware of.
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: So oh yeah, Brian, yeah, bonus episode.
- 1:33:56Speaker 8: Anything you can talk about on air, one I definitely can't.
- 1:33:59Speaker 8: But one that I can talk about was just, you know,
- 1:34:02Speaker 8: the in the game against the Bears, it was a
- 1:34:04Speaker 8: pass game plan and Brian said, we did not want
- 1:34:08Speaker 8: to go in and try to throw the ball. He's
- 1:34:10Speaker 8: like Richard dent was like two hundred and forty pounds.
- 1:34:13Speaker 8: He's like, let me plow over him. You know, I
- 1:34:15Speaker 8: know that that probably wouldn't have solved everything, but but
- 1:34:18Speaker 8: it was just funny to all of a sudden turn
- 1:34:20Speaker 8: around after doing the whole project, right, Maddie, and then
- 1:34:22Speaker 8: there's the left tackle of the team sitting right there.
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: So that was pretty cool conversation with yeh.
- 1:34:28Speaker 7: Let's go back to the phones.
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: We have some people that have been as no socks
- 1:34:31Speaker 6: says patiently waiting, Patty is an agawam. What's up, Patty?
- 1:34:36Speaker 10: You can use the mouse pad there, all right, that's
- 1:34:39Speaker 10: just I mean, well, you're struggling like I was trying
- 1:34:41Speaker 10: to help.
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: What's up, Patty? Patty? Patty?
- 1:34:47Speaker 7: Are you there?
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: Petay? Patty?
- 1:34:50Speaker 29: Come on?
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: I guess not.
- 1:34:51Speaker 7: Okay, how about we go to oh Oliver in Australia?
- 1:34:57Speaker 6: What's up Oliver? Hello? Hello?
- 1:35:01Speaker 7: He you hear yes, you can't hear you?
- 1:35:04Speaker 33: What's up?
- 1:35:04Speaker 29: Guys?
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: How are you going?
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: Awesome?
- 1:35:09Speaker 37: Okay, yeah, fantastic.
- 1:35:11Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:35:12Speaker 37: I have a couple of things. The first things was
- 1:35:15Speaker 37: that I'm not just any fans out there in Brisbane,
- 1:35:17Speaker 37: but there's a few of us here and we're gonna
- 1:35:20Speaker 37: go mate playing hotel ah. But yeah, I'm not sure
- 1:35:24Speaker 37: how any there are. Second thing, second, I was just wondering,
- 1:35:28Speaker 37: what did you guys thoughts on how Julian Ashby's gone
- 1:35:30Speaker 37: as a snapper this year, Like, obviously snappers don't get
- 1:35:34Speaker 37: drafted all that often, and as you're placing those spiders
- 1:35:37Speaker 37: show Cardana, what have you thought.
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: Well, I haven't heard his name a lot. Yeah, I
- 1:35:42Speaker 4: don't think he's had any No, not any, not one.
- 1:35:45Speaker 8: We talked to Donnie Paxton a little bit about that
- 1:35:47Speaker 8: yesterday and he was talking about the challenges of it,
- 1:35:49Speaker 8: but a little different now that you can't line up
- 1:35:51Speaker 8: right over the long snapper in the past, Lonnie said,
- 1:35:54Speaker 8: they just try to come in there and kill you, Yeah,
- 1:35:56Speaker 8: and make you not think about making the snap.
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: But hard to do that, but that's good. Yeah, they
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: so Oliver.
- 1:36:01Speaker 28: There's a lot of injuries obviously because the guy's down
- 1:36:05Speaker 28: snapping and looking back to the punter the holder, and
- 1:36:09Speaker 28: then the guy would line up right over him and
- 1:36:11Speaker 28: just bowl him over before he could get his head
- 1:36:13Speaker 28: up and make the block. So they they did away
- 1:36:15Speaker 28: with that rule and no offense to any long snappers
- 1:36:18Speaker 28: that are currently in the league.
- 1:36:19Speaker 9: It's a lot easier to long snap now than it
- 1:36:21Speaker 9: was when they, you know, before they put that rule in.
- 1:36:24Speaker 7: So Teaks and San Matteo, what's up, Teak.
- 1:36:29Speaker 38: Hey, thanks for taking the call. It's awesome to have
- 1:36:31Speaker 38: you guys here. I hope there has been treating you well.
- 1:36:34Speaker 38: I have two quick questions. I've heard there's an open
- 1:36:38Speaker 38: practice tomorrow at Stanford. Is that truly open to public
- 1:36:41Speaker 38: fans to go? And if so, what's kind of the
- 1:36:43Speaker 38: timing on that to the practice.
- 1:36:45Speaker 6: I'm not sure if I'm not sure if it's open
- 1:36:47Speaker 6: to fans. I know that the Patriots are bringing some
- 1:36:50Speaker 6: corporate sponsors there. They're gonna have like a little reception
- 1:36:54Speaker 6: at the practice, but I'm not sure it's no, I
- 1:36:58Speaker 6: don't think it is.
- 1:37:00Speaker 38: Okay, God, okay, that's kind of what I feared out
- 1:37:03Speaker 38: instead open, but I feared it maybe not be truly
- 1:37:06Speaker 38: truly open in that sense.
- 1:37:07Speaker 4: I think might be more media there.
- 1:37:08Speaker 39: Baby, Yeah, yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: That makes sense.
- 1:37:13Speaker 38: Question is if you had to replace a position group
- 1:37:16Speaker 38: for this Super Bowl from a position group from one
- 1:37:19Speaker 38: of the other winning Super Bowls, which kind of group
- 1:37:21Speaker 38: would you replace that with running back to wide receiver,
- 1:37:25Speaker 38: and you would also have to win that original Super
- 1:37:28Speaker 38: Bowl too with the players. Okay, so kind of cruft
- 1:37:32Speaker 38: of what position group are kind of really worried about, but.
- 1:37:34Speaker 7: Yeah, just curious. I doubt and Okay, that's a good question, Tike.
- 1:37:38Speaker 6: Thanks for the call.
- 1:37:39Speaker 4: I really have a whole position group safety that I'm
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: worried about. Maybe the safeties. And I don't mean disrespect
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: the current safeties. They've done good.
- 1:37:46Speaker 8: But you know, Devin mccordy do and jump and they
- 1:37:50Speaker 8: were they were a pretty good trioch.
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: I don't know if they fit the ski.
- 1:37:54Speaker 6: What about linebackers, Bruce, They don't run fast enough, Ted Johnson,
- 1:38:00Speaker 6: you know, like the uh one to oh three linebackers.
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: But you wouldn't want them play in it today's game.
- 1:38:06Speaker 7: That's true. They're a little bit different style.
- 1:38:08Speaker 4: Evan could give you a half hour on this.
- 1:38:10Speaker 28: Yeah, yeah, I mean I kind of took the question
- 1:38:14Speaker 28: maybe slightly different. I would just say tight end so
- 1:38:16Speaker 28: we can have Gronk. My first my first thought was
- 1:38:20Speaker 28: like a wide receiver group with you know, like Massa. Well, yeah,
- 1:38:24Speaker 28: that's no disrespect to Hunter Henry. But if I can
- 1:38:27Speaker 28: pick the greatest tight end of all time and put
- 1:38:29Speaker 28: them on the current team. Then I'm probably gonna gonna
- 1:38:31Speaker 28: do that.
- 1:38:32Speaker 6: That's fair enough, good enough, fair enough. How about Kevin
- 1:38:39Speaker 6: in San Francisco right down the street.
- 1:38:42Speaker 39: Hey Kevin, Hey, how's it going guys?
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: Hey Kevin? How you doing.
- 1:38:49Speaker 6: Good? Good?
- 1:38:49Speaker 32: Good?
- 1:38:49Speaker 6: Hey?
- 1:38:50Speaker 39: I wanted just a quick question.
- 1:38:53Speaker 29: The Saturday event. You said you're taping something?
- 1:38:57Speaker 6: Is that?
- 1:38:58Speaker 39: Is that a splash did you mention?
- 1:39:00Speaker 7: I believe so.
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: Let me check my messages because I got Yeah, Saturday
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: afternoon there will be a yeah, the program.
- 1:39:10Speaker 6: Yeah, so Saturday from three to six sports that splash
- 1:39:13Speaker 6: sports Bar.
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: Yep, Paul, you'll be there, right, I will be there. Yeah,
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: I will be there.
- 1:39:20Speaker 7: Yeah, Paul will be there because he's on the show.
- 1:39:22Speaker 7: I'll probably be there.
- 1:39:23Speaker 9: You'll probably see my name on the marquee out front.
- 1:39:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I might. I might be Do you want us
- 1:39:27Speaker 4: to go? Would you be excited to see us if
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: we went? Due?
- 1:39:30Speaker 28: Deuce is just very anti going because it's so far
- 1:39:32Speaker 28: away from our hotel.
- 1:39:35Speaker 4: The commute has beating him back. He would last day
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: like you and I.
- 1:39:40Speaker 28: Getting in LA for eighteen years and now all of
- 1:39:42Speaker 28: a sudden, traffic is bothering.
- 1:39:43Speaker 4: Anything more than a twelve minute commute. I'm like, I
- 1:39:45Speaker 4: can't do it.
- 1:39:46Speaker 9: Okay, okay, Sharon boy, all right, I thought it would
- 1:39:50Speaker 9: be fair to go.
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: No, I think it'd be fun.
- 1:39:52Speaker 10: I was, I was gonna get it would be great
- 1:39:53Speaker 10: if all you guys came.
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: It would be appreciate that, all right? At a minimum?
- 1:39:58Speaker 9: Yeah, I got there.
- 1:40:00Speaker 10: We we'll be taping uh the uh, the all Access
- 1:40:03Speaker 10: program Saturday. I believe at four pm.
- 1:40:06Speaker 4: Local you'll be occupied with your television du.
- 1:40:09Speaker 6: People and you have the cloud Friday night at Underdog's
- 1:40:12Speaker 6: Cantina from four to seven. There's another rolly.
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: I might be going there on Saturday before we go
- 1:40:18Speaker 4: to splot you hype in the crowd up. He's got uh, he's.
- 1:40:23Speaker 28: He's got obligations, he's got he's got autoground one of
- 1:40:26Speaker 28: your shows.
- 1:40:26Speaker 10: We'll see, we'll see. I don't know if I don't
- 1:40:28Speaker 10: know if the Lovely Elizabeth will be down for for.
- 1:40:31Speaker 7: For all that.
- 1:40:32Speaker 8: Yeah, that's a long day for just gotta chime in
- 1:40:34Speaker 8: real quick. We were talking eighty five Pats Marcus Allen
- 1:40:37Speaker 8: right there. They shut him down in the ANC divisional.
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: Game, and so bad and so bad.
- 1:40:46Speaker 7: Let's go to Brian in Alberta. What's up, Brian.
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: It's the there's the Beatle Zolac and the Beatle Radio road.
- 1:40:58Speaker 7: Hey, Brian, you there, Brian?
- 1:41:00Speaker 39: Hey, how's it going good?
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: You got me?
- 1:41:04Speaker 39: Hey, So a longtime listener, first time caller. I just
- 1:41:07Speaker 39: got a quick question here. I was rewatching some of
- 1:41:09Speaker 39: the old Super Bowls and looking at some of those performances,
- 1:41:14Speaker 39: like unsung heroes, guys that really had an impact on
- 1:41:17Speaker 39: the game, but it may not necessarily be a household name.
- 1:41:20Speaker 39: Who's one player you see on this current roster that
- 1:41:23Speaker 39: you could first see having one of those unsung hero performances.
- 1:41:28Speaker 39: I'm thinking of like Shane Vereen eleven catches in Super
- 1:41:31Speaker 39: Bowl forty nine, a lot of those coming in the
- 1:41:33Speaker 39: fourth quarter. Anyway, we'll take it off here, all right.
- 1:41:37Speaker 7: Who who could have an unsung hero type game?
- 1:41:41Speaker 9: Jack Gibbons. Oh, it's a good one, Paul.
- 1:41:43Speaker 10: If Roberts Blaine is compromised and all of a sudden,
- 1:41:46Speaker 10: Gibbons has to play and he plays well. We might
- 1:41:49Speaker 10: be hearing about, you know, him making eight or ten tackles,
- 1:41:51Speaker 10: maybe a past defense or something, and yeah, puts maybe
- 1:41:54Speaker 10: even involved in a turnover.
- 1:41:56Speaker 9: Yeah, that's a good one.
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: I think there's I mean, I think there's a couple
- 1:41:59Speaker 6: guys like Pop Douglas. You know, if he were to
- 1:42:03Speaker 6: have six catches for like eighty yards and you know,
- 1:42:06Speaker 6: would qualify that would be something he really hasn't done
- 1:42:09Speaker 6: all year in a in a single game, you know,
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: could qualify him.
- 1:42:13Speaker 28: You know, yeah, yeah, I know it always feels like
- 1:42:15Speaker 28: that that happens, and it probably is true. But like
- 1:42:20Speaker 28: this team is like filled with those types of guys,
- 1:42:22Speaker 28: so it's kind of hard to like say, you know,
- 1:42:25Speaker 28: like does tong account anymore? You know, Jack Gibbons is
- 1:42:28Speaker 28: a good one, but they kind of gotten contributions from
- 1:42:32Speaker 28: everybody all year.
- 1:42:34Speaker 10: So we had Greg rosenbum He mentioned Kyle Williams, which
- 1:42:37Speaker 10: I could absolutely see him catch all, you know, maybe
- 1:42:40Speaker 10: three balls for eighty yards because maybe he catches two
- 1:42:43Speaker 10: deep ones, right you.
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: Know, yeah, yep. It's like we talked about yesterday.
- 1:42:47Speaker 8: This whole team feels like mostly the underrated guys that
- 1:42:51Speaker 8: pop up, and you know, when this team's at their best,
- 1:42:54Speaker 8: it's guys that you look down the stat sheet with
- 1:42:56Speaker 8: receptions and it's like four three two two three you know,
- 1:43:00Speaker 8: like it's yeah, spread the ball around. I mean, sure,
- 1:43:02Speaker 8: there's gonna be games where maybe Digs goes off or
- 1:43:04Speaker 8: Hunter Henry has you know, a big game, and or
- 1:43:06Speaker 8: maybe you know, a couple of catches down the field
- 1:43:07Speaker 8: for one of the other guys like Booty.
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: But that's the game.
- 1:43:10Speaker 8: I'd love to see this spreading the ball around, everybody
- 1:43:13Speaker 8: contribute and keeping Seattle on their heels.
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:43:16Speaker 6: Cody says, my favorite random prop of the week is
- 1:43:18Speaker 6: a McDaniel special over two and a half players to
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: throw a pass plus one hundred and sixty odds.
- 1:43:24Speaker 8: Over two and a half, so both quarterbacks plus they're
- 1:43:27Speaker 8: not even buying the two players, yea, you gotta get
- 1:43:31Speaker 8: to three.
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: Yeah, threes like a lot.
- 1:43:33Speaker 28: Well, it includes the quarterbacks, right, that's two of them, right,
- 1:43:39Speaker 28: so only one other player?
- 1:43:40Speaker 7: One other player has to throw a pass?
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: Is it for oh? For one team? All right?
- 1:43:43Speaker 28: I got I thought you met for one why quarterbacks
- 1:43:46Speaker 28: throwing a pass? Because Sam Darnold and Drake may are
- 1:43:49Speaker 28: both going to throw a pass?
- 1:43:50Speaker 9: I thought he said it was a Josh McDaniel's problem.
- 1:43:53Speaker 6: It said, it's a Josh McDaniel special. Yeah, right, So
- 1:43:57Speaker 6: it's one team. I don't know, it's both teams. He
- 1:44:00Speaker 6: didn't specify that, Oh, it's both teams.
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: It's literally I'm not you guys.
- 1:44:07Speaker 9: More on the gambling, Freddy Freddy.
- 1:44:10Speaker 28: But in a quarterback throws a pass in the game, right,
- 1:44:12Speaker 28: either team like a lot honestly, Yeah.
- 1:44:15Speaker 10: Like that's that's I would say, highly likely to happen. Yeah,
- 1:44:18Speaker 10: somebody other than a quarterback throws a pass. That's why
- 1:44:21Speaker 10: I think that prop is I heard one team crazy. Yeah,
- 1:44:25Speaker 10: you know, yeah, I hear what you're saying.
- 1:44:27Speaker 28: I thought the prop was crazy because I was like,
- 1:44:29Speaker 28: that's I feel like that's a lock that that one
- 1:44:31Speaker 28: of these teams is going to try a trick play,
- 1:44:33Speaker 28: if not ball like, I would be surprised if they didn't.
- 1:44:37Speaker 6: Miken Winchester, Virginia would like to talk about the run games,
- 1:44:40Speaker 6: specifically Henderson. While I know he hasn't had many touches
- 1:44:43Speaker 6: this postseason, I'd like to talk about the ones he
- 1:44:46Speaker 6: has had. All of his big plays in the regular season,
- 1:44:48Speaker 6: at least that I can remember, come from runs to
- 1:44:51Speaker 6: the outside the tackles. This is where I feel he
- 1:44:54Speaker 6: worked best in the postseason. All of his runs have
- 1:44:57Speaker 6: seemingly been inside rushes, which I believe isn't playing to
- 1:45:00Speaker 6: his strengths. Not sure if I'm imagining this or not,
- 1:45:03Speaker 6: but wanted to get your takes as seeing the ball doers.
- 1:45:07Speaker 10: Yeah, I would say that both sides are a little exaggerated.
- 1:45:12Speaker 10: Not all of his plays were like wide, like outside
- 1:45:15Speaker 10: around the ends. Some of them were, some of them
- 1:45:17Speaker 10: were off tackle that he bounded up hitting and bouncing
- 1:45:20Speaker 10: them wide for big plays. And I would say that
- 1:45:23Speaker 10: not all of his carries in the playoffs have been inside.
- 1:45:26Speaker 10: He's had plenty of stretch opportunities. He hasn't run as well,
- 1:45:30Speaker 10: and they haven't blocked it as well. I mean, he
- 1:45:31Speaker 10: hasn't had a lot of room to run. Sometimes this
- 1:45:35Speaker 10: happens Stevenson's been a little bit hot, and it seems
- 1:45:38Speaker 10: like there's a little bit more room to run when
- 1:45:40Speaker 10: he's gotten it. Earlier in the season. It was the
- 1:45:42Speaker 10: opposite when when Henderson started to catch fire. It was
- 1:45:45Speaker 10: like Stevenson would go in and run into a brick
- 1:45:47Speaker 10: wall and then all of a sudden, Henderson will rip
- 1:45:49Speaker 10: off a twelve yard run, and it just was like,
- 1:45:51Speaker 10: why can't Stevenson do that?
- 1:45:53Speaker 4: It was weird.
- 1:45:54Speaker 28: Yeah, I just feel like when we talk about Henderson
- 1:45:57Speaker 28: like this, it's like, if all you're gonna do when
- 1:46:00Speaker 28: you put him on the field is toss him the
- 1:46:02Speaker 28: football outside, you can't work.
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: It doesn't work.
- 1:46:05Speaker 28: So you know, he gets his carries and you know
- 1:46:08Speaker 28: they might be setting up some things, and in order
- 1:46:10Speaker 28: to do that, you got to run him inside first
- 1:46:12Speaker 28: before you can run him outside. If the only thing
- 1:46:15Speaker 28: that he does when he gets on the field is
- 1:46:16Speaker 28: is is getting toss and get out on the edge,
- 1:46:19Speaker 28: and the defense is going to overplay the toss and
- 1:46:21Speaker 28: there's gonna be nothing for him. You know a lot
- 1:46:23Speaker 28: of these plays too, are our stretch runs are outside
- 1:46:25Speaker 28: zone where he's got reads, you know, and so if
- 1:46:28Speaker 28: the read is to cut it back inside, the ball
- 1:46:30Speaker 28: funnels back.
- 1:46:31Speaker 4: And said, I think.
- 1:46:32Speaker 10: People look at that it's like an outside play. Well, yeah,
- 1:46:34Speaker 10: like the remember the Buffalo one where he reverse field. Yeah,
- 1:46:37Speaker 10: that was kind of a stretch play to the right. Yep,
- 1:46:41Speaker 10: that got completely bottled up and he just cut it
- 1:46:43Speaker 10: back and there was no contain and he went left.
- 1:46:45Speaker 4: That wasn't necessarily a wide play.
- 1:46:47Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, and that he ends up going sixty whatever,
- 1:46:50Speaker 10: sixty five, you're onto a touchdown.
- 1:46:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:46:51Speaker 28: I think it technically might have hit in the ber
- 1:46:54Speaker 28: se gap, but the one in Tampa Bay was right
- 1:46:56Speaker 28: up the gut, like you know, like I mean, it
- 1:46:58Speaker 28: was yeah, like that one.
- 1:47:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:47:01Speaker 28: But I think that his right now, you know, on
- 1:47:05Speaker 28: the film in the playoffs, his reads have not been
- 1:47:08Speaker 28: very good. You know, he's not really seeing the space
- 1:47:11Speaker 28: inside the tackles right now, uh to. And I think
- 1:47:15Speaker 28: that when you start to look at mental mistakes like
- 1:47:18Speaker 28: that can lose you playoff games if you have a
- 1:47:20Speaker 28: guy out there that either isn't seeing it well, or
- 1:47:23Speaker 28: isn't picking up a blitzwell or something like that. I mean,
- 1:47:26Speaker 28: we saw, you know, one of the biggest games and
- 1:47:29Speaker 28: or plays in twenty eight to three was a strip
- 1:47:31Speaker 28: sat because the running back didn't pick up Dante Hi
- 1:47:33Speaker 28: Tower on the blitz, he came comes unblocked and that
- 1:47:37Speaker 28: that changed the entire course of the game. You know,
- 1:47:40Speaker 28: it just is hard to when a player is kind
- 1:47:42Speaker 28: of struggling mentally like that, to put him on the
- 1:47:44Speaker 28: field in an AFC championship game or a Super Bowl
- 1:47:48Speaker 28: is asking a.
- 1:47:48Speaker 4: Lot, uh Seana Toronto.
- 1:47:50Speaker 6: I think Marcus Jones is a sneaky good pick for
- 1:47:53Speaker 6: super Bowl MVP. Whether it's a pick six, a putt return,
- 1:47:56Speaker 6: or maybe an offensive touchdown. He's a playmaker and I
- 1:48:00Speaker 6: think he could show up in multiple ways on Sunday.
- 1:48:03Speaker 4: I like it. You always like Marcus Jones.
- 1:48:06Speaker 9: I do I worry about Marcus Jones in this game?
- 1:48:09Speaker 9: You worry about him?
- 1:48:10Speaker 6: I do?
- 1:48:10Speaker 28: Do I worry about him because they don't really play
- 1:48:13Speaker 28: a whole lot of three receiver. They play a lot
- 1:48:15Speaker 28: of heavy personnel and they run the ball a ton.
- 1:48:18Speaker 28: So you know, we were talking to Greg a little
- 1:48:20Speaker 28: bit about the personnel matching for the Patriots offense against
- 1:48:23Speaker 28: the Seahawks defense. I think one of the fascinating things
- 1:48:26Speaker 28: in this game for me is how are the Patriots
- 1:48:27Speaker 28: going to match heavy personnel defensively? Are they going to
- 1:48:30Speaker 28: play based defense? They play base defense and you're taking
- 1:48:32Speaker 28: Marcus Jones off the field. You know, they run a
- 1:48:35Speaker 28: lot of the outside zone. It's you know, West Coast scheme,
- 1:48:38Speaker 28: Shanahan Tree, you know, so they put the nickel on
- 1:48:42Speaker 28: the field. He's the strong side linebacker to the run
- 1:48:45Speaker 28: side on where they're trying to run it outside.
- 1:48:48Speaker 9: I just wonder how they they go about doing that
- 1:48:50Speaker 9: because he's such a good.
- 1:48:51Speaker 4: Player for them.
- 1:48:52Speaker 28: You know, you don't want to diminish his role completely,
- 1:48:55Speaker 28: But I don't know if this is like a huge
- 1:48:57Speaker 28: nickel game for the Patriots, a little bit safety role.
- 1:49:00Speaker 28: That's what I was talking to with Barth yesterday on
- 1:49:03Speaker 28: catch twenty two. You know, do you like kind of
- 1:49:05Speaker 28: invert it where you put like Woods in there, Hawkins
- 1:49:08Speaker 28: more in that nickel role and you have Marcus Jones
- 1:49:11Speaker 28: playing in the back end instead, just to get.
- 1:49:14Speaker 9: Him on the field and have him, you know, be
- 1:49:15Speaker 9: on the field.
- 1:49:16Speaker 28: You know, they will play three receivers on third down
- 1:49:19Speaker 28: obviously when they have to pass, but you know they're
- 1:49:22Speaker 28: gonna play a lot of two tight ends. I'm assuming
- 1:49:24Speaker 28: they're gonna want to try to get the Patriots into baits.
- 1:49:27Speaker 9: That's gonna be what they want to do.
- 1:49:29Speaker 28: But if you stay in nickel, you know, can you
- 1:49:31Speaker 28: hold up against the run in nickel well enough to
- 1:49:34Speaker 28: keep your five defensive backs on the field.
- 1:49:38Speaker 6: Let's see Dean is in Liverpool and he wants to
- 1:49:40Speaker 6: talk about Tom Brady. He says, no, Tom Brady does
- 1:49:43Speaker 6: not have to remain impartial in the way people keep
- 1:49:46Speaker 6: pretending he does. He owns some tiny minority stake in
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: the Raiders. He's not the owner, not an executive, not
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: making decisions.
- 1:49:53Speaker 28: Well, I don't know about that absolutely, just man, I'm
- 1:49:56Speaker 28: pretty sure he's now he You know how you have
- 1:49:58Speaker 28: to submit to the league, like who's like your top
- 1:50:00Speaker 28: decision makers?
- 1:50:01Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm pretty sure his name is on there for
- 1:50:03Speaker 9: the Raiders now.
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:50:05Speaker 6: As a broadcaster, the rule is simple, remain neutral on
- 1:50:08Speaker 6: air during games you're calling.
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: That's it.
- 1:50:10Speaker 6: No rooting, no campaigning, no obvious bias during broadcast, standard
- 1:50:14Speaker 6: stuff off air. There is absolutely no rules stopping him
- 1:50:17Speaker 6: from speaking warmly about the Patriots. Interviews, podcast documentaries, public appearance,
- 1:50:21Speaker 6: and social media all fair game. And here's the key point.
- 1:50:25Speaker 6: People ignore he has no problem openly praising and romanticizing
- 1:50:29Speaker 6: his time in Tampa Bay. Same ownership, state, same broadcasting rules,
- 1:50:33Speaker 6: completely different strategies. So no, this isn't about legality or impartiality.
- 1:50:38Speaker 6: He doesn't have to keep New England at arm's length.
- 1:50:41Speaker 6: He chooses to. That's not rules, that's personal. So I
- 1:50:44Speaker 6: think the last part of that is true. The first
- 1:50:47Speaker 6: part of it is not, Like, as a broadcaster, you're
- 1:50:50Speaker 6: not supposed to openly root.
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: For a team.
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: Just the way it goes, Oh, I got trouble now,
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: it's not expecting that.
- 1:50:59Speaker 4: Hey, don't be intimidated. Don't be intimidated by the shirt.
- 1:51:04Speaker 4: But so Matt, I wore the a f C version,
- 1:51:06Speaker 4: just so you know, the A f C West. How
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: are you got.
- 1:51:10Speaker 13: Before?
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: Before I start? You guys do an awesome job. You
- 1:51:13Speaker 4: guys do an awesome job. I live in Boston. My
- 1:51:16Speaker 4: daughter is one of the hosts of Foxboro, Rush and
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: Nesson for like the last two years. I follow it.
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: You guys are great. You guys, you got job and
- 1:51:24Speaker 4: Patriots in general. There's some teams that really do a
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: good job on kind of the digital side, and there's
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: other teams that kind of like they you know, they
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: don't even try. It's the mastermind behind it, all right,
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: director of content, great ker.
- 1:51:39Speaker 8: Before we get started, I got I brought this up
- 1:51:40Speaker 8: to Matt a couple of years ago with the ownership
- 1:51:42Speaker 8: and my dad and your dad who my condolences.
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: My dad's senses condolence as well when I told him
- 1:51:46Speaker 4: I talked to you. But Dad's worked together, rebucking Matt
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: worked for my weird uncle Doug in the Rebuk warehouse.
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: Just what what were you guys doing like stucking shells. Yeah, man,
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: I worked in the warehouse in Stoughton and Danton I
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: would box up shoes and send him to Roger Clemens
- 1:52:01Speaker 4: and Shaquille O'Neal and EMMITTT. Smith. Actually just saw Emmitt
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: Smith and he's like, hey, man, I remember when you
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: would send me my shoes. Yeah, yeah, that was me.
- 1:52:09Speaker 8: I had to cut tapes for Emmitt Smith, so I'd
- 1:52:11Speaker 8: be in the video intern, you know, I as my
- 1:52:13Speaker 8: intern and got to watch sports and every day and
- 1:52:15Speaker 8: said any time Emmitt Smith popped up or shy Rebuck, you.
- 1:52:17Speaker 4: Know, I actually hate the smell of new shoes to
- 1:52:19Speaker 4: this day because that a job that does a tough job.
- 1:52:23Speaker 4: Most people like that. I got some of that real quick.
- 1:52:26Speaker 8: I just did a whole thing on the eighty five Patriots,
- 1:52:27Speaker 8: and so many of the guys that I talked to
- 1:52:29Speaker 8: from that team talked about the team in the seventies
- 1:52:31Speaker 8: with your dad, it was a huge part of that.
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: What was it like for you growing up watching the
- 1:52:34Speaker 4: Patriots teams in the seventies. I had no idea. It
- 1:52:36Speaker 4: was unusual, like people would ask me, what what do
- 1:52:39Speaker 4: you want to do when you grow up I'd be like,
- 1:52:40Speaker 4: I don't know, I guess I'll just play in the NFL.
- 1:52:42Speaker 4: Like my dad had no idea. All my friends their
- 1:52:45Speaker 4: dads were on the Patriots. It was, uh, you know,
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: the Grogans and Steve Nelson and John Smith and Stanley
- 1:52:51Speaker 4: Morgan and Mosey Totupu and just I don't know. We
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: just thought it was normal. We had absolutely no idea
- 1:52:56Speaker 4: how difficult it would be. And my dad actually was
- 1:52:59Speaker 4: like my parents, they were like, hey, you know, you
- 1:53:02Speaker 4: need to really focus on your education. It's really hard
- 1:53:05Speaker 4: to make it to the NFL. And so they really
- 1:53:07Speaker 4: sold that hard. And so I really never even had
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: the dream to go to the NFL until I was
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: a ball boy for the Patriots with Scott Zolac, Hugh Millen,
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: and Tommy Hodson. And I remember being out there and
- 1:53:19Speaker 4: I remember watching those guys and I bust their balls
- 1:53:21Speaker 4: a little bit, and I'm like.
- 1:53:23Speaker 7: So, I was like, I could do.
- 1:53:29Speaker 6: Especially so.
- 1:53:32Speaker 4: Listen. That was That was the Dick McPherson year. That
- 1:53:34Speaker 4: my first year doing that. I think they won three
- 1:53:36Speaker 4: games that whole season, and Zolac was the third string quarterback.
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: He might have won two of the game it was, uh,
- 1:53:42Speaker 4: he was like, what's the major league? You know, what's
- 1:53:44Speaker 4: the guy's name on the wild?
- 1:53:48Speaker 10: Yeah, this is perfect because Matt does have the shirt on.
- 1:53:53Speaker 10: We're just talking about Tom Brady.
- 1:53:55Speaker 4: I just I just presented a Seahawks jersey to the
- 1:53:58Speaker 4: Crocodile Hunter's son. Oh okay, he's in Oregon. His dad's
- 1:54:02Speaker 4: obviously from Australia and he's a Seahawks fan. And he
- 1:54:06Speaker 4: had like a giant like I don't know it was
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: a Boa constrictor with him or whatever. So I was
- 1:54:10Speaker 4: trying to play nice. But you are a fish part
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: of that team. I mean that's you know, I feel
- 1:54:13Speaker 4: always feel like to see.
- 1:54:14Speaker 8: And I was kind of cause the Seahawks fan said
- 1:54:15Speaker 8: that this year growing up of launching jersey.
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: But I had a friend who was a huge Seahawks fan.
- 1:54:20Speaker 4: He loved you, and you really you took them to
- 1:54:23Speaker 4: this first line. No, it was kind of cool to
- 1:54:25Speaker 4: be a part of that franchise because they the franchise
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: was started in seventy six, okay, And so like when
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: you talk about the early teams, were there those guys
- 1:54:32Speaker 4: were around, Steve Jim Zorn, Steve Largent. You know, I
- 1:54:35Speaker 4: think some some great players there that no one really
- 1:54:37Speaker 4: knows about because they were in the Pacific Northwest. So no,
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: it's it's a cool to be a part of something
- 1:54:42Speaker 4: fresh and new in that way. And I think that, uh,
- 1:54:45Speaker 4: you know you mentioned earlier with you know, the guys
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: in the seventies. I remember Squished the Fish and Bury
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: the Bears and all that kind of stuff. And the
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: relationship between my dad's era and the guys that played
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: in like Mike Rabels era or even like the beyond that,
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: the Matthew Slater era era. It is a fun thing
- 1:55:05Speaker 4: when you can have relationship from generation to generation within
- 1:55:08Speaker 4: a within a football team. Yep.
- 1:55:10Speaker 7: So what's you're thinking on the game?
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: Well, I think there's a lot of people nationally that
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: think that that the Patriots somehow don't deserve to be
- 1:55:17Speaker 4: here because they had an easy schedule. I'm like, that
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: doesn't make sense, Like that doesn't even make any sense,
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: Like how does that like logically, this is the NFL.
- 1:55:25Speaker 4: What are you even talking about that you could maybe
- 1:55:27Speaker 4: argue to me like, well, they didn't have to face
- 1:55:29Speaker 4: bo Nicks, or they didn't have to face you know, CJ.
- 1:55:32Speaker 4: Stroud had this weird game where he was just not
- 1:55:34Speaker 4: himself at all. I don't know what was going on
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: in that game, but uh no, I think the Patriots
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: are a really good team. They've they're way ahead of schedule.
- 1:55:41Speaker 4: They invested all their money on defense and free agency.
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: They went young on offense with guys like Will Campbell
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: and Travon Henderson, obviously Drake, some wide receivers. I think
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: I think they absolutely could win this game. And I've
- 1:55:54Speaker 4: been saying that to every Seahawks people, all the Seahawks
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: people that I talked to. The Patriots can absolutely win
- 1:55:59Speaker 4: this game. And when we went to the super Bowl,
- 1:56:01Speaker 4: we were the one seed in the NFC. We were
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: the best team in football. We lost our super Bowl
- 1:56:05Speaker 4: and it wasn't that close to a wild card team
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: and the Steelers. So trust me when I say, it
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: doesn't matter what you did all regular season. It matters
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: what you do just on Sunday. So sean all instead
- 1:56:16Speaker 4: of kicking around here. There are some questionable calls in
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: that game. If I recall, yeah, but listen, that can happen.
- 1:56:20Speaker 4: But that can happen, and you had.
- 1:56:21Speaker 9: A wide receiver throw pass.
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: So that's a great point though. That's a great point,
- 1:56:25Speaker 4: because I think that's going to show up in this game.
- 1:56:27Speaker 4: Because when you're playing a defense that's the number one
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: team in the NFL, the number one defense in the NFL,
- 1:56:32Speaker 4: you got to you have to manufacture smoking mirror some offense.
- 1:56:36Speaker 4: And what you've seen the Patriots do, especially Josh, for
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: years and years, when he's not feeling great about the matchup,
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: he goes to the double pad that Julian Edelman, Let's
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: try to throw Brady one. Let's they've seen the Philly Special,
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: like all that kind of stuff. And you practice this
- 1:56:50Speaker 4: stuff all season long, maybe for a different opponent. It's
- 1:56:54Speaker 4: just sitting there. It does you no good to take
- 1:56:56Speaker 4: that fun trick played to April and someone with the
- 1:56:59Speaker 4: resume of Josh Daniels, I could see him being like,
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: I got I got the courage to call this play.
- 1:57:05Speaker 4: Seahawks better be ready, they better be doing the scouting report.
- 1:57:07Speaker 4: Who's a lefty, who's a righty, who was a high
- 1:57:10Speaker 4: school quarterback, who played baseball, all the stuff? So why
- 1:57:14Speaker 4: I loved That's.
- 1:57:14Speaker 10: Why I loved Jim Zoan growing up because I was
- 1:57:16Speaker 10: a terrible high school quarterback and I was lefty.
- 1:57:18Speaker 4: So Jim left there's a lot of lefty hate out there.
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: You know, there's a lot Mike you would hate. Okay,
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: that wasn't very good. Well, Mike Colegrin, coach Joe Montana,
- 1:57:29Speaker 4: and then Steve Young, and then after Steve Young, he
- 1:57:31Speaker 4: basically was like he had brock Heward and he was like,
- 1:57:34Speaker 4: I'm done with lefties. He couldn't flip the plays in
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: his brain. It was all that.
- 1:57:39Speaker 6: So Drake may is an MVP candidate. Yeah, I don't
- 1:57:43Speaker 6: know if he'll win it or not. But does he
- 1:57:45Speaker 6: need to play?
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: But he's probably the runner up?
- 1:57:48Speaker 6: Ye Does he need to play at an m VP
- 1:57:50Speaker 6: level for the Patriots to have a chance in this game?
- 1:57:52Speaker 4: I think he does. Yeah, I think he does. And
- 1:57:54Speaker 4: that's not a slight on the rest of the team.
- 1:57:55Speaker 4: But uh, And I'm a huge, huge, huge Drake May fan.
- 1:57:58Speaker 4: I've I was kind of his calm combine mentor with
- 1:58:02Speaker 4: the quarterback wide receiver group when he came out and
- 1:58:04Speaker 4: all the stuff that they do not measure for at
- 1:58:06Speaker 4: the combine. He was as good as I've as I've
- 1:58:09Speaker 4: ever seen with any player at any position. He was incredible,
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: absolutely incredible, And so we know about the talent and
- 1:58:16Speaker 4: on the field and that kind of stuff. But to me,
- 1:58:18Speaker 4: it's the other stuff. It's the intangibles that really matter.
- 1:58:21Speaker 4: He's got him now, He's got a couple of things
- 1:58:23Speaker 4: I wish he would work on, but but he his
- 1:58:26Speaker 4: upside is so high that I think he could take
- 1:58:28Speaker 4: over a game and someday I think he'll just he'll
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: be like kind of pulling this team along in a
- 1:58:35Speaker 4: way that Josh Allen pulls the Bills.
- 1:58:37Speaker 6: What a couple things that, Yeah, what are the things
- 1:58:39Speaker 6: that you think he needs to work on?
- 1:58:40Speaker 4: Well, fumbles? Oh yeah, no one. I mean, well, because
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: a lot of times as quarterbacks, you think of interceptions
- 1:58:46Speaker 4: as your fault in fumbles as like, well that's kind
- 1:58:49Speaker 4: of just you know, that just happens, that's somebody else,
- 1:58:52Speaker 4: you know. But but fumbles are actually worse. Interceptions happen
- 1:58:55Speaker 4: like way down the field. Fumbles happened back here. We're
- 1:58:58Speaker 4: giving our defense and even shorter field. So fumbles to
- 1:59:00Speaker 4: me have to be like, you need to actually hate
- 1:59:04Speaker 4: fumbles more than you hate interceptions. And then and then
- 1:59:07Speaker 4: the other one. I think, and I've told Drake this,
- 1:59:10Speaker 4: I need to see way less adventure at the end
- 1:59:12Speaker 4: of his at the end of his plays, at the
- 1:59:14Speaker 4: end of his runs, like could he ends up in
- 1:59:17Speaker 4: the blue tent way way too much? Like way too much,
- 1:59:21Speaker 4: so a little less adventure. You know, you complete ninety
- 1:59:24Speaker 4: one percent of your passes in games. You can't do
- 1:59:26Speaker 4: that from the blue tent. So he missed two games
- 1:59:28Speaker 4: rookie year on a you know, I think concussion for
- 1:59:30Speaker 4: sliding too late even this year, even the shoulder right now,
- 1:59:34Speaker 4: it never needed to happen. And sometimes as a quarterback,
- 1:59:37Speaker 4: you don't learn that lesson until you learn it the
- 1:59:40Speaker 4: hard way. So hopefully, hopefully he's already learned it. Other
- 1:59:44Speaker 4: end of the spectrum, what's impressed you most about his
- 1:59:45Speaker 4: game this year? I mean, he's awesome, right he like
- 1:59:49Speaker 4: he's he's dominatingly. This is a team that won four
- 1:59:51Speaker 4: games last year and four games the year before. No
- 1:59:54Speaker 4: one's picking them to even, Like I remember people were
- 1:59:56Speaker 4: talking about, like, well, would it be a success if
- 1:59:58Speaker 4: we go eight and eight or whatever the numbers are.
- 2:00:00Speaker 4: Now I forget how many games we play, right, but
- 2:00:03Speaker 4: you know, like could they be a playoff team? Overreaction
- 2:00:05Speaker 4: or underreaction? So he's the MVP runner up. I honestly,
- 2:00:09Speaker 4: you mean, you guys know better than me. But I
- 2:00:11Speaker 4: kind of feel like Patriot fans, even if they had
- 2:00:14Speaker 4: lost a couple of games ago, they'd be like, you
- 2:00:17Speaker 4: know what, though, we're back, we got Rabel, Oh, we
- 2:00:20Speaker 4: got a franchise quarterback. We're good. The future is bright.
- 2:00:24Speaker 4: So I don't even know where to begin. But I
- 2:00:27Speaker 4: think the biggest thing that I could say to somebody
- 2:00:29Speaker 4: is that he's got all the stuff, the intangibles that
- 2:00:32Speaker 4: that that I believe matter to have a very very
- 2:00:34Speaker 4: long career and have a successful career as the franchise quarterback.
- 2:00:38Speaker 28: When it comes to the fumbling and the sliding and
- 2:00:41Speaker 28: things like that, is that just a young quarterback that's
- 2:00:44Speaker 28: just so super talented and kind of needs to learn,
- 2:00:46Speaker 28: you know, the limitations in the NFL.
- 2:00:48Speaker 9: Like how do you go about fixing those types?
- 2:00:50Speaker 4: I think it's harder for somebody who's a great athlete
- 2:00:53Speaker 4: and has athleticism because he's he's such a dangerous runner,
- 2:00:57Speaker 4: Like I expect him to run for at least forty
- 2:00:59Speaker 4: yards in this game. Like I think that's a major factor,
- 2:01:01Speaker 4: maybe a kryptonite for Seattle also. But so some of
- 2:01:05Speaker 4: it's like how like no more than two hitches in
- 2:01:07Speaker 4: the pocket or left hand pressure is how I would
- 2:01:09Speaker 4: coach it. Specifically you're holding the ball in the pocket,
- 2:01:12Speaker 4: but sometimes your your left hand's just kind of beare
- 2:01:14Speaker 4: like think about if you're holding your your Starbucks or
- 2:01:16Speaker 4: for you you're dun't getting But but that left hand
- 2:01:20Speaker 4: pressure is a factor. So there's things you can coach.
- 2:01:23Speaker 4: Bottom of the ball needs to be above the bottom
- 2:01:26Speaker 4: of the ten on your jersey, like, there's things that
- 2:01:28Speaker 4: you can specifically coach to. But then also just no
- 2:01:32Speaker 4: one when to give up on a play. And and
- 2:01:33Speaker 4: again I think ultimately it's just hating fumbles the way
- 2:01:36Speaker 4: you hate interceptions.
- 2:01:38Speaker 7: All right, Well, Matt Hasselback Saverian's finest.
- 2:01:41Speaker 4: There you go. Yeah, that's right, Clapboard Tree Street down
- 2:01:44Speaker 4: in Westwood. There you go. He's doing great. He was
- 2:01:47Speaker 4: at UCLA, committed to Chip Kelly. He's had four head
- 2:01:50Speaker 4: coaches in two years, so he's t He's just transferred
- 2:01:53Speaker 4: to Appalachian State and Boone, North Carolina, and uh he's
- 2:01:56Speaker 4: really excited and I am too.
- 2:01:58Speaker 6: All right, yeah, thanks for taking the times, thank you.
- 2:02:02Speaker 6: All right, we'll take a break and we'll be back
- 2:02:05Speaker 6: here in radio row
