- 0:00Speaker 1: Do you have to have a cane? How do you– because, no,
- 0:02Speaker 1: you have a wheelchair.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Well, good question. I mean, it's progressive, so I used
- 0:07Speaker 2: to be an athlete before I knew. And then I
- 0:11Speaker 2: walked weird, kind of like I'm drunk. I spoke– still
- 0:16Speaker 2: do speak that way because your tongue is a muscle.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Oh.
- 0:20Speaker 2: And then I went into a cane phase when I
- 0:23Speaker 2: was 21 because they wouldn't serve me at bars. And
- 0:28Speaker 2: I was like, I got to find a way to, like,
- 0:30Speaker 2: show them. It's like, I'm not drunk. I was drunk,
- 0:35Speaker 2: but I wasn't. You know.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Did a lot of brothers hit on you when you
- 0:39Speaker 1: had that cane?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Honestly, I would go to bars not bring the cane.
- 0:44Speaker 2: And if a guy hit on me, I was like,
- 0:46Speaker 2: that's a bad person. Because I look like the drunkest
- 0:50Speaker 2: person in this place. Right? It was a litmus test.
- 0:54Speaker 1: You're just reporting people. At one point, did you and
- 0:58Speaker 1: your sisters have canes? Because that's almost like a black prom,
- 1:02Speaker 1: I feel like, if you guys had that.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I did have, like, 14 to match every outfit.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Nuh-uh. Yeah. Oh, that's kind of hot.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Thank you. I had one that was, like, a sword cane.
- 1:15Speaker 2: You unscrew the top and a sword came out.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Really? Oh, that's the one you definitely needed, probably an
- 1:20Speaker 1: Irish bar.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I took it on every date just in case,
- 1:24Speaker 2: you know. I don't fuck with pepper spray, just sword canes.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Oh, that's, dude, that's the British pepper spray. The sword cane,
- 1:34Speaker 1: that's exactly what they're, that's exactly the wildest thing there is.
- 1:37Speaker 1: That's unbelievable. What are, like, some of the toughest things
- 1:42Speaker 1: about being, having this disability that people do not realize,
- 1:45Speaker 1: you think? Are there some little things that are kind
- 1:47Speaker 1: of interesting?
- 1:50Speaker 2: I think there's a general assumption that, like, I am
- 1:56Speaker 2: mentally disabled because of how I speak. Oh, my God.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I do have a joke about this, but it's, like,
- 2:05Speaker 2: a real story. Do you remember the bar Kung Fu?
- 2:09Speaker 1: It was in Nashville?
- 2:10Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. It shut down.
- 2:12Speaker 1: It was on Broadway. Yeah, I've heard about it.
- 2:15Speaker 2: So I went there with some friends a couple years ago,
- 2:18Speaker 2: and we rented one out. It was a friend's birthday.
- 2:21Speaker 2: It was, like, six girls, you know, drinking, whatever. And
- 2:26Speaker 2: long story short, I watched my friend get roofied. But again,
- 2:33Speaker 2: nothing bad has happened to any of my friends. So
- 2:35Speaker 2: they just take drinks from people and, you know, whatever.
- 2:39Speaker 2: So my friend is getting real sick and starting to
- 2:42Speaker 2: pass out. It's been like 45 minutes. My able-bodied friends
- 2:46Speaker 2: all go to the bathroom together. Dude, I saw. Give
- 2:50Speaker 2: her the drink. Tries to come in. She's passed out.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And he's like, hey, that's my friend. She asked me
- 2:56Speaker 2: to take her home. And I was like, no. And
- 3:00Speaker 2: I just rolled over and put my foot on the
- 3:02Speaker 2: door to close it. And then he shouldered it open.
- 3:05Speaker 2: And I kicked him in the wiener. And I started
- 3:10Speaker 2: yelling for help because he's fighting me. And I can't
- 3:14Speaker 2: do much. And finally security comes over. And the guy goes, Hey, guys,
- 3:19Speaker 2: I'm so sorry. That's my girlfriend, my friend Bessa, and
- 3:23Speaker 2: this is her mentally retarded friend that doesn't remember me.
- 3:27Speaker 2: And I had to convince these security guards that I
- 3:31Speaker 2: was not mentally disabled. And how do you do that?
- 3:35Speaker 2: And I couldn't do it. It is so much harder
- 3:41Speaker 2: than it sounds.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Oh, God. Yeah, how do you even... It's like trying.
- 3:47Speaker 2: To convince someone you're from the future. You can't do it.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Oh, my God, that's hilarious.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah, trying to get away from the accusations. I can't
- 4:05Speaker 2: beat those guys.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah, dude.
- 4:07Speaker 2: No, we got kicked out, but that guy didn't get
- 4:11Speaker 2: my friends, so that's a win.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I can't believe he had such a plan, too. That's
- 4:15Speaker 1: the crazy part that he would say that.
- 4:16Speaker 2: It wasn't his first time. Yeah, I was like, oh,
- 4:19Speaker 2: my God, kind of genius, kind of funny.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Just crazy there's sick people out there like that, too.
