- 0:00Welcome to Pamoja Podcast, a ministry of Life
- 0:03of Christ International Ministries. The place
- 0:06where stronger lives are built, faith is strengthened,
- 0:11hearts are encouraged, and Christ -centered homes
- 0:14are shaped through ordinary conversations that
- 0:17become extraordinary encounters with God's truth.
- 0:21One conversation, one story, one revelation at
- 0:27a time. As I look back at the story my father
- 0:31told me many years ago, I realize something that
- 0:34escaped my attention for a long time. He wasn't
- 0:38simply describing a house. Every detail he mentioned
- 0:42had a purpose. The house was in the middle of
- 0:46a forest. It was warm. It had a strong foundation.
- 0:51The door could only be opened from the outside.
- 0:54And then, almost as if it were just another detail,
- 0:58He told me that the windows were sealed. For
- 1:02years I never questioned that statement. I simply
- 1:05accepted it as part of the story. But after nearly
- 1:09two decades of marriage, after storms, after
- 1:13victories, after failures, after learning what
- 1:17it truly means to protect a covenant, I found
- 1:21myself returning to that one detail. Why did
- 1:25my father insist that the windows were sealed?
- 1:27Why mention the windows at all? Why not simply
- 1:31say the house was secure? Why emphasize something
- 1:35that, at first glance, seems so ordinary? Today,
- 1:39I believe I understand. Because every house has
- 1:43windows. Every marriage has windows. Every family
- 1:47has windows. Every heart has windows. And whatever
- 1:52enters through those windows, eventually changes
- 1:56the atmosphere inside. There is something I've
- 2:00learned over the years. Most people fear the
- 2:03storms outside. Very few pay attention to the
- 2:07openings inside. We spend so much energy trying
- 2:11to stop what is happening around us. The difficult
- 2:14economy, the pressure at work, the opinions of
- 2:18people, the temptations of the world, the uncertainty
- 2:22of tomorrow. But the greatest danger has rarely
- 2:26been the forest surrounding the house. The greatest
- 2:28danger has always been what finds its way inside.
- 2:32Because once the battle enters the house, it
- 2:35is no longer happening around you. It is happening
- 2:38within you. Growing up, there was a house in
- 2:42my neighborhood that everyone knew. It wasn't
- 2:45abandoned. At least, not in the beginning. It
- 2:49wasn't haunted. It wasn't mysterious. It was
- 2:53simply broken. The first thing people noticed
- 2:57wasn't the roof. It wasn't the walls. It wasn't
- 3:01the foundation. It was the windows. One after
- 3:04another. They had cracked. Some had shattered
- 3:08completely. Others had been left partially open.
- 3:12No one repaired them. At first, nothing dramatic
- 3:15happened. Just a little breeze. A little dust.
- 3:20A little rain. Nothing that seemed urgent. Nothing
- 3:24that demanded immediate attention. Days became
- 3:27weeks. Weeks became months. The wind continued
- 3:31entering. Cold air settled inside. Moisture began
- 3:35to damage the wood. Leaves gathered in the corners.
- 3:39Insects found their way in. Then animals. Little
- 3:42by little, the atmosphere changed. Eventually,
- 3:47that house no longer looked like a home. It looked
- 3:50like a warning, and everyone who walked by understood
- 3:54something without anyone having to explain it.
- 3:57That house had not been destroyed in one day.
- 4:01It had slowly welcomed destruction. That image
- 4:05has stayed with me for years, because marriages
- 4:08rarely collapse overnight. Families rarely break
- 4:12apart in a single moment. Faith rarely disappears
- 4:15in one decision. Most destruction enters gradually.
- 4:19Quietly, patiently, almost unnoticed. Until one
- 4:24day our people ask, what happened? And the answer
- 4:27is often much simpler than they imagined. The
- 4:30windows were left unattended. One sentence has
- 4:35settled deeply in my heart. I believe it captures
- 4:38this entire revelation. A house rarely falls
- 4:42because of what strikes it. It falls because
- 4:45of what it allows inside. Think about that. Storms
- 4:49hit every house. Jesus himself said that the
- 4:53rain falls, the floods come, the winds blow,
- 4:58against every house. The difference was never
- 5:01the existence of storms. The difference was what
- 5:05remained standing after the storm had passed.
- 5:08Why? Because one house had been prepared, the
- 5:12other had not. This is where I began seeing my
- 5:16father's wisdom differently. The sealed windows
- 5:19were never about keeping fresh air out. They
- 5:22were about protecting the atmosphere within.
- 5:26Because atmosphere is precious. Peace has an
- 5:29atmosphere. Joy has an atmosphere. Trust has
- 5:33an atmosphere. Prayer has an atmosphere. Love
- 5:37has an atmosphere. Unity has an atmosphere. And
- 5:41atmosphere changes. the moment something foreign
- 5:44is allowed to enter. Have you ever walked into
- 5:49a room where people had just argued? No one says
- 5:52anything, yet you can feel it. The atmosphere
- 5:55speaks. Have you ever entered a home filled with
- 5:59peace? Children laugh, people smile, conversations
- 6:04are gentle, there is rest. The atmosphere speaks.
- 6:09Atmosphere is invisible. But it is powerful,
- 6:12and it is shaped by what is permitted to remain
- 6:15inside the house. My father understood something
- 6:20I would only understand years later. The forest
- 6:24was never the greatest threat. The house already
- 6:28knew there would be storms. It had been built
- 6:31for storms. The walls were strong. The foundation
- 6:35was deep. The fire was burning. The threat was
- 6:39never outside. The threat was anything that crossed
- 6:43the boundary between outside and inside. That
- 6:48boundary was the window. How many marriages have
- 6:53been weakened? Not because the couple stopped
- 6:56loving each other, but because something entered
- 6:59the atmosphere. A disappointment that was never
- 7:03discussed. A comparison that quietly grew. An
- 7:07offense that remained unresolved. A voice that
- 7:11should never have been entertained. Not dramatic.
- 7:14Not obvious. Just enough to change the climate.
- 7:19Peter writes these words, Be alert and of sober
- 7:23mind. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around
- 7:27like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
- 7:31Notice what Peter does not say. He does not tell
- 7:34us to fear. He tells us to stay alert. because
- 7:38vigilance is part of love. We lock our doors
- 7:42because we value what is inside. We protect our
- 7:45children because they are precious. We guard
- 7:48our hearts because they belong to God. Protection
- 7:51is not fear. Protection is stewardship. Perhaps
- 7:57that is why Proverbs tells us, Guard it, not
- 8:08because God cannot protect you, but because He
- 8:12has entrusted something valuable to your care.
- 8:15Just as Adam was placed in the garden to work
- 8:18it and to keep it, we have been entrusted with
- 8:21our homes, our marriages, our families, our hearts.
- 8:27God protects, but He also calls us to watch.
- 8:32As I reflected on my father's story, Another
- 8:35thought came to me. Maybe the reason the windows
- 8:38were sealed wasn't because the people inside
- 8:42feared the forest. Maybe it was because they
- 8:45loved the atmosphere inside the house too much
- 8:48to risk losing it. That changes everything. They
- 8:52were not living in fear. They were living with
- 8:55wisdom. There is a difference. In our next conversation,
- 9:02I want to tell you another story. An old story
- 9:05passed down by elders. It is the story of a husband
- 9:10and wife who welcomed a traveler into their home.
- 9:14He did not arrive carrying weapons. He arrived
- 9:17carrying kindness. He did not force his way in.
- 9:21He was invited. And by the time they realized
- 9:25why he had come, the greatest damage had already
- 9:29been done. Because sometimes, The enemy does
- 9:33not enter through violence. Sometimes he enters
- 9:37through permission. And that may be the most
- 9:40dangerous window of all. Until next time, remember
- 9:45this. You cannot control the forest, but you
- 9:49can guard the windows of your house. And what
- 9:52you protect today will shape the atmosphere your
- 9:56family lives in tomorrow.
