- 0:57Let's see, we are starting tonight, Hebrews 10.
- 1:02Hi, Aaron. How you doing?
- 1:04Yeah, good to see you. We are starting tonight in
- 1:07Hebrews 10. Going to be verse 30 is where
- 1:11we're going to start. And before we do that, though, I
- 1:15would have Andrew lead us in a prayer.
- 1:21All right, let's pray. God, we thank you for the word.
- 1:23Again, thank you for your spirit.
- 1:26And we do ask for that spirit to come and confirm the word of God
- 1:31in US and that it would bring up the power that comes with the
- 1:36Holy Ghost. That is more than head
- 1:38knowledge, more than knowing the right doctrines, the night word,
- 1:42the right words to say and the right things to we're supposed
- 1:45to believe. We want more than just knowing
- 1:48the right thing. We want the actual power and the
- 1:51strength to walk in it and be true and faithful and all that
- 1:56you had planned for us in Jesus name, Amen.
- 1:59Thank you, Andrew, I agree with that.
- 2:02Need the truth desperately these days because there's plenty of
- 2:05that other stuff. All right, sounds good.
- 2:10So verse 30 in Hebrews 10 says, For we know him that hath said,
- 2:18vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord,
- 2:23and again the Lord shall judge his people.
- 2:26And I'll read the next one, just because it kind of fits with
- 2:29that. It is a fearful thing to fall
- 2:32into the hands of the living God.
- 2:35We could talk of verse 31st, but that's an interesting verse.
- 2:40And just to kind of recap and get us, get us into the flow of
- 2:44the conversation here, we were talking a little bit ago, a
- 2:49couple studies ago about holding fast to the profession of our
- 2:54faith without wavering. And that is that is still the
- 2:57subject here. He is matter of fact, the whole
- 3:00book of Hebrews up till now has been an exhortation to stay in
- 3:06the faith and don't go back to the law or you know, the faith
- 3:11in God is so much better. Jesus is better than the angels.
- 3:14He just methodically went through and made sure that we
- 3:18understand that it is Christ that sanctifies us and calls us
- 3:22righteous and holy and not any other thing.
- 3:26So, so this is a a little side note here saying that obviously
- 3:32we just read about how much sorer the punishment would be
- 3:37for those that had trodden under foot the Son of God and counted
- 3:41the blood of the covenant an unholy thing.
- 3:44So he says that if we do that, we will know that God will exact
- 3:51vengeance on such people. And like he had quoted before.
- 3:56So that's kind of what he's getting at here.
- 3:59He, he's exhorting us to abstain from the willful sin of
- 4:05discounting the blood of God, the blood of Jesus as an unholy
- 4:10thing and to know that if we do, he will be exact in getting
- 4:16vengeance for that sin. So that's kind of the context
- 4:20here a little bit. I'll open it up Andrew for
- 4:23additional thoughts. Yeah, that's pretty much what I
- 4:26was going to say. The the whole book has been to
- 4:30encourage people, these believers that are struggling
- 4:33and and we've been saying that over and over how these guys
- 4:37were being persecuted. And we're just getting ready.
- 4:40We'll probably go through the verses tonight where he tells us
- 4:42that that they're they're having a hard time with this.
- 4:46And he just got done going through some major, major
- 4:50biblical Christ salvation doctrines that eliminates any
- 4:56kind of man made tradition, any kind of even Mosaic traditions
- 4:59and laws, carnal ordinances and all that.
- 5:03He overshadowed all the old covenant with the new covenant
- 5:07and exalted it way above, far beyond anything that the law
- 5:11could ever do. And he says it's so good that if
- 5:17you find it out and you hear it and you know it, you know the
- 5:21blood of Christ, you know the grace, you know this gospel and
- 5:25you've come to it, you've been illuminated, you've come to the
- 5:27light and you turn your back on it because it's hard, because
- 5:32you're persecuted, because it's tough for whatever reason,
- 5:36because your friends are doing it, whatever people are making
- 5:40fun of you. If you turn back, there's it's
- 5:44going to be a sore punishment that that was verse 29.
- 5:47But then he just keeps saying, you know what, God's not going
- 5:51to just look the other way. If you're outside of Jesus
- 5:54Christ, you're going to be judged like one that's outside
- 5:57of Jesus Christ. And that's a fearful thing.
- 5:59It's a very fearful thing to be judged outside of the grace of
- 6:03God. And if you go back to any kind
- 6:05of law, you're going away from the grace of God.
- 6:09And that's the exportation of this whole book.
- 6:11And we say, well, that's, that's, that's not really true.
- 6:15They're still believing in Christ.
- 6:17No, that's what he's saying. If you go back and you put any
- 6:21confidence or if you minimize the offense of the cross by
- 6:24keeping some laws that some law minded people want to keep, if
- 6:28you do that, you compromise like that.
- 6:30That is the in the essence of undermining the blood of Christ,
- 6:34counting it as not enough. And if you're tied on it at
- 6:38least like I was talking to one of my cousins this weekend and
- 6:44he's from a very strict, kind of a strict Mennonite group.
- 6:48And he's like, you know what? I'm just not becoming a member.
- 6:50He's like, and we got the talent and he's like, yeah, they preach
- 6:53the gospel and then turn around and poop on it.
- 6:55And I was like, I don't know how to say it any better than that.
- 7:00It's that. And that's the exhortation here.
- 7:02It's that you can't receive it. And then because of peer
- 7:04pressure and friends and family or whatnot, all of a sudden say,
- 7:08well, if we find out that our life gets better when we keep
- 7:12these ordinances and these carnal ordinances, the you own
- 7:18this, you'll be judged like someone that has seen and known
- 7:22the love of Christ and went back to something and and you counted
- 7:26it as nothing. And it sounds like it's going to
- 7:28be a terrible judgement, maybe even worse than a Sinner that
- 7:31has never believed. So I think, I think we need to
- 7:34hear it. Yeah, that's right, Melvin.
- 7:39Yeah. You know, I think it's, it's
- 7:40interesting there. It's very sobering actually to
- 7:45me to think about that. He actually puts those that like
- 7:51you were saying, Andrew, that turn their back to the grace of
- 7:55God through Jesus Christ, that he treats them the same as an
- 8:00unbeliever. Like so if you look in the word
- 8:02of God, any time where the word vengeance or talks about the
- 8:08vengeance of God, it's always against unbelievers.
- 8:13And I just wanted to make that point that the wrath of God is
- 8:17going to come upon those that do not believe in the, in the grace
- 8:23of Jesus. And here obviously those that
- 8:27turn back from the blood of Jesus or call it unholy or, or,
- 8:32or trod on it under their foot. And if you read in the book of
- 8:37Revelations, there were talks about the the last 3 1/2 years
- 8:43of tribulation when you get a very vivid picture of what the
- 8:49wrath of God looks like. And it it's, it's not, it's not
- 8:52funny. Yeah.
- 8:54It is and it's a so I think to me it's like, so he's putting
- 8:59this in the same category as you know, vengeance from God.
- 9:05God says, hey, look, if someone is trotting on Jesus blood and
- 9:10saying it's not, it's an unholy thing and it's just he says, let
- 9:14me deal with them. You know, vengeance is mine and
- 9:18not not that I'm saying we shouldn't approach someone or or
- 9:22not say anything. That's not what he's saying, but
- 9:24he's saying the judgement. Leave that up to me.
- 9:28If that person turns away from the grace of Jesus and but and
- 9:34then he makes that more. How would you say he put
- 9:38emphasis on that in verse 31 where he says it's a fearful
- 9:42thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
- 9:45One thing I want to point there, it says the living God.
- 9:49So I just want to make this point that the simple fact is
- 9:54those of us that are not trusting and believing by faith
- 9:59in the blood of Jesus for our sins.
- 10:03All of those that are not trusting in that are going to
- 10:08fall into the hands of the living God and and that is a a
- 10:13fearful thing. That's a fact aired.
- 10:18As he was talking there, I thought about that verse and I
- 10:23was just, I was trying to read it real quick, see if it was in
- 10:26the context of this. I thought that verse where he
- 10:28says for the time has come. This is first Peter 4, 17 For
- 10:34the time has come that judgment must begin at the House of God.
- 10:38And if, if he first begin at us, what shall the end be of them
- 10:42that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be
- 10:46saved, where shall the ungodly in the Sinner appear?
- 10:49I'm just, I thought of that because I was just thinking that
- 10:53that I, I don't know what Paul or well, I think it's called
- 10:59whatever the writer is assuming that these people think, but
- 11:03it's almost like he thinks or is assuming that they are assuming
- 11:08that because they're they're still trying to worship God,
- 11:13that it's not that big a deal to trodden under foot the blood of
- 11:16Christ. Does that Does that make sense?
- 11:17Do you understand what I'm saying?
- 11:18In other words, you know, we, we've said that throughout this
- 11:21book. It's not really, it's not so
- 11:24much a book full of don't go back into adultery.
- 11:29It's don't go back to the law and turn away from Christ.
- 11:32That's right. So I think I think that's why he
- 11:37is saying this is because he doesn't want them to think,
- 11:40well, you know, we're we're still serving God like we're
- 11:43we're trying to serve God here. He's want he's wanting them to
- 11:46understand, as you all kind of pointed out already, the
- 11:49severity of turning away from Christ and that God will judge
- 11:55that I'm like you all maybe even harder than those have not
- 11:59heard. In fact, you know, he, he kind
- 12:02of indicates that in other places, Jesus actually indicated
- 12:07that the people would be beaten with more or less stripes, you
- 12:12know, as if there was a severity of punishment based on the
- 12:15amount of light that that person was revealed to.
- 12:19So, so, so that's one side, but the other side is you see this
- 12:24verse, I mean, I just read your verse in Peter.
- 12:27There's another verse there in what?
- 12:29In Romans when he says, you know, render not evil for evil
- 12:35because vengeance belongs unto me.
- 12:36Like, you know, God repeats this many times.
- 12:40So we live in a time that people are pretending that God doesn't
- 12:50reward iniquity or he's not going to judge or he's going to
- 12:54accept everybody and everything. And this is repeated over and
- 12:59over in the Bible that this is a.
- 13:03It's. Such a holy thing that God has
- 13:06reserved it unto Himself to really recompense people for
- 13:10their sin and for their iniquity.
- 13:12Like it's not, you know, it's something He is going to do and
- 13:16He's bringing that up, like I said, in the context of what I
- 13:18just said. But you know, there's a verse
- 13:24and I didn't write this one down.
- 13:26Maybe you all know where it is right quick.
- 13:28I could find it. But there's a verse over there.
- 13:31I don't know, somewhere that says some save with compassion
- 13:38and others with fear, pulling the mouth of fire, hating the
- 13:41very deeds of evil. Is that in Jude or where's that
- 13:44at? Somewhere like that, maybe.
- 13:46But anyway, my point is this when he says in verse 31, it's a
- 13:49fearful thing to fall in the hands of the living God.
- 13:52I'm not saying it is sufficient to just be scared of going to
- 13:57hell, but it's not a bad thing to have.
- 14:02It's not a bad thing to have is a fear of God.
- 14:05I mean, Solomon concluded that was the whole duty of man was to
- 14:08fear God, right? I mean, so it is, it's, it's
- 14:13very proper to realize that God is going to repay sin and he's
- 14:18going to do it with, with, with great, I don't know, I don't
- 14:26know what you'd say, but with great severity and great
- 14:31sternness, He is going to recompense those that have that
- 14:37have not been faithful to him. And like I said, that's a that's
- 14:39a thing we ought to respect. Yeah, that's that's right.
- 14:43But I I put in there that. No, Jude 123.
- 14:48Yeah, I was thinking it was Jude.
- 14:50Yeah, Jude 23, the verse 23 there, that's that's where that
- 14:53is. And that is, that is really
- 14:55relevant actually to what you were saying.
- 14:56I had to, you know, you were kind of searching for the word
- 15:00to describe God's judgement, you know, like, is he angry or is he
- 15:05fierce or ferocious or, you know, like, what is the, what is
- 15:08the descriptive word to use there?
- 15:11And I had to think I was looking in preparation for this in Nahum
- 15:15122, it says God is jealous and the Lord revenge, the Lord
- 15:21revenge and is furious. The Lord will take vengeance on
- 15:26his adversaries and he reserve us wrath for his enemies.
- 15:32You know, so that doesn't look like a very loving relationship
- 15:39to those that trod under foot the the the blood of Jesus and
- 15:43call it an unholy thing, right? I mean, that's, that's the point
- 15:46that he's making. This is and and I would say that
- 15:50fierce love demands fierce hatred, fierce hatred or
- 15:54ferocity towards the opposite or it's not, it's not, you know,
- 16:00love. I mean, IA lot of people kind of
- 16:03almost hate going there and saying that.
- 16:05Well, God is ferocious like he says there in Naeem, but that
- 16:08is, I think that's accurate and that's right.
- 16:10It's the word of God. When you're oh, sorry, go ahead.
- 16:15No, I was just going to say when you're on the good side, when
- 16:18you're not on the evil side, but you're on the good side, You
- 16:21want your master to hate evil. That would be pretty sad.
- 16:25If he's kind of soft and evil, you'd be afraid he'd all of a
- 16:28sudden give in. You know, that's just that's
- 16:32just a terrible understanding of good and evil to think that God
- 16:35wouldn't hate evil and bring it to his knees.
- 16:39But I had a couple more thoughts.
- 16:41Remember in 927 it says, and as it is appointed and the man
- 16:45wants to die and after this, the judgement, he plucked that right
- 16:48in there. And then he says, Sir, Christ
- 16:50was once offered to bear the sins of many and unto them that
- 16:52look for him shall appear the second time without sin unto
- 16:56salvation. So that's kind of the contrast.
- 17:03And what he's saying here is if you go back from where you're no
- 17:07longer going to appear before God without sin, you're going to
- 17:09be there for the judgement. And that's a fearful thing.
- 17:12And it's a fearful thing. I think even as a believer, it's
- 17:16still going to be, we're still going to be shaking, I think, in
- 17:18our boots. But it's interesting that he
- 17:21just got done also saying based on the work that Christ has
- 17:24done, we now have boldness and we can go right on in, even in
- 17:30the heaven itself and through the veil.
- 17:34And then here he says, but if you tried under man, big
- 17:38trouble. So I just wanted to point that
- 17:40out like he's been building up to this and now he's contrasting
- 17:43it so. Yeah, that's, that's good.
- 17:46Eric, go ahead with whatever thoughts you had to.
- 17:48Well, I was just going to kindly do something similar to Andrew.
- 17:51I'm going to compare and contrast here.
- 17:55Think about like this God in a few places, he he makes a
- 18:01likeness to his wrath like it is being stored up.
- 18:04In other words, it's almost like he's adding to this cup or this
- 18:09vial or this bottle, like it, you know, his wrath is being
- 18:13stored up and then and he's able to contain that until it's time
- 18:19to pour it out. You know, like we, we would
- 18:22different people are different mannerisms and it's like, you
- 18:25know, some of us can. I mean, I can stand it for a day
- 18:27or two and then I'll bust loose. Somebody can only stand it for 5
- 18:30minutes and he bust loose, you know, like, but but he's God is
- 18:33able to just put it in a container if you will, and hold
- 18:38it until the time and then pour it out.
- 18:42Now compare that with what he does for us when we believe him.
- 18:48He says I'm actually, I have just forgot.
- 18:53I like I've poured that out on Christ already.
- 18:56He's taken care of and it's just no more like I think that's such
- 19:00a compare and contrast, you know, like in the one state he
- 19:04just keeps it held back. He's not forgotten about because
- 19:07we've said this before you, you might not you might like a cop.
- 19:15We all like cops that will pull us over for actually breaking
- 19:20the law and say, I don't worry about it.
- 19:22I'm going to let you go this time, right?
- 19:24We all like that. We like to know that we was
- 19:26actually going 75 and 55 and the cop just has mercy on us and and
- 19:31and lets us go. But listen, God is not going to
- 19:35do that. He's not going to take all these
- 19:39sins that we have committed if we don't come to Christ, the
- 19:42person is without Christ and death.
- 19:45God is he's going to be bringing those things every idle word he
- 19:50says he'll bring back up right. And and and let me let me say
- 19:56this not this is not this is related, but it's not the same
- 19:58thing to to make to make more sense of that.
- 20:04It is if you go back to Romans chapter 1 and and follow that
- 20:08through that the people that hold truth, that knew God, that
- 20:13knew what he was talking about. When he brings all these things
- 20:16back up, it's not going to be a surprise.
- 20:18They're going to know that they shouldn't have done them and did
- 20:22them anyway, right? So when he pours this out, it's
- 20:26not like everybody's going to be like, oh, what are you doing
- 20:29that for? You know, like they're going to
- 20:31know that they should have done different and did just like the
- 20:36Romans chapter 1 says. So like, I know I went kindly
- 20:39off the rack. Yeah, it's that's relevant
- 20:43information though. I think that's real good.
- 20:45The the thing that comes to my mind is that as you were
- 20:48speaking, is that so God is holy and he is just and his judgement
- 20:54is right. Like he judges rightly because
- 20:58he is holy and he is just and he has he can't like just slightly
- 21:03tolerate something like he has to be judge.
- 21:09Like judgement has to be given for unrighteousness and for sin.
- 21:14Like he can't ban on that. But the the thing that is so
- 21:18like, I don't know, it just makes me love God.
- 21:22More, more and more. Is thinking that you know so
- 21:26this God that when you reject the blood of Jesus, what he has
- 21:31provided for you and I to be set free from our sins.
- 21:35When you reject that, then his wrath is what we just read.
- 21:40It's going to come down funny. On the other hand, when you
- 21:44believe that by faith, then he we just read it back a few
- 21:50chapters or verses back further that he will throw your sins in
- 21:54the sea of forgetfulness. He won't remember them no more.
- 21:57And that, that is just such comforting.
- 22:02Yeah, it's it's like the it's like the Romans chapter 3 and
- 22:09verse 26 when he says to declare, I say at this time his
- 22:13righteousness that he might be just and the justifier of him
- 22:18which believeth in Jesus. So that is so key.
- 22:22Like to me that is that was such a eye opener when I understood
- 22:27that, that that's the point. Like you just explained, Melvin,
- 22:31God cannot just say don't worry about it.
- 22:35He can't. That is why Christ had to die.
- 22:38That's why he made him to be sin for us is because he was just in
- 22:43that. He poured it out on somebody,
- 22:45but they were the innocent somebody and therefore he's the
- 22:48justifier of them that believeth in Jesus.
- 22:51So that that is to me, that's astounding.
- 22:54I mean, that's a great truth. That's why it's all the good
- 22:57news. Maybe I could almost make a
- 22:59little illustration that would make a little bit more.
- 23:02You know, a picture in our mind of what we're trying to say is,
- 23:05let's say there's a big gorge or a ravine and it's bottomless pit
- 23:11like underneath like, and it's just in the middle.
- 23:15If you fall, it's over. And God made a bridge or you
- 23:19could say a rope or he gave everything he had.
- 23:22I mean, he and he gave get it for free, but it he actually put
- 23:26in the work. He built that bridge himself.
- 23:29And you start walking on that bridge and all of a sudden
- 23:34you're like, you know what it looks like a a better road right
- 23:38beside it. I'm going to jump off of this
- 23:41bridge and jump down on that shinier, easier.
- 23:45That bridge there looks like it's a lot more safe.
- 23:48There's some walls up there. There's some structure there.
- 23:51It looks a lot safer. How about I jump I'm I don't
- 23:54feel safe anymore. I mean, it's getting scary up
- 23:56here. It's windy.
- 23:58I look like an idiot. I'm going to jump down there and
- 24:01you leave this bridge and you jump down there.
- 24:04But that supposedly bridge down there was a lie.
- 24:07And God, what he's saying he's not going to reach down now and
- 24:12pick you up. The law of gravity will do its
- 24:16effect. It's not that God now all of a
- 24:18sudden, OK, I now I hate sin. No, he's just righteous all the
- 24:21time. Like gravity.
- 24:23It's like the law as sure as law of gravity, you're going to fall
- 24:27and you're going to go splat down at the bottom and that's
- 24:31going to, you're going to receive the judgement of falling
- 24:3510,000 feet or whatever. And you're going to be, you're
- 24:38going to. That's what your reward's going
- 24:39to be, yeah. That's right.
- 24:45It's a fearful thing to fall in the hands of a living God
- 24:48without an advocate, of course. All right.
- 24:52But it says in verse 32, call to remembrance the former days in
- 24:57which after you were illuminated, ye endured a great
- 25:01fight of afflictions, partly whilst G were made a gazing stop
- 25:06both by reproaches and afflictions, and partly whilst G
- 25:11became companions of them that were so used, so interesting
- 25:19that he goes back and calls them back to remember what that they
- 25:24had started out in suffering because of being separated and
- 25:29actually because they were being friends to the ones that
- 25:32previously had suffered. That's.
- 25:33Interesting, that is. But so he he calls them back
- 25:37saying saying, look, it is worthless battle that you
- 25:40started this. You know, I I go back again to
- 25:43the you know, the the decree that he made that we should hold
- 25:48on to our faith without wavering back in verse 23.
- 25:50Go ahead, Edward. Yeah, this is these are very
- 25:54encouraging verses for me because probably you all
- 26:00remember as well. The first time we believed when
- 26:02our eyes were open, the truth was so rich and new and we would
- 26:07have we would have done anything like there's nobody would have
- 26:12stopped those with an embarrassment or they would have
- 26:15made fun of us. We would have been like it's
- 26:18just rolled off. Didn't we were ready to be fools
- 26:22for Christ. I mean, when you first get lit
- 26:24up. I mean, I had no, the ministers
- 26:28had no grip on me, No Fear. I wasn't trembling.
- 26:31I trembled more as an unbeliever knowing I did it wrong.
- 26:35And the ministers come and I knew I deserved like if they're
- 26:38not wrong, I trembled more than I did when I knew they're going
- 26:43to kick me out and I'm going to be separated forever.
- 26:47I, I was at total peace and the whole church and all my friends
- 26:52turning their back on me, laughing at me, making funny
- 26:56jokes about my faith. And, and they did it.
- 26:59The Deacon did it right. While we're eating lunch, he was
- 27:02making funny jokes about the saved and you know, and then,
- 27:07you know, dirty make a dirty joke about it, the Deacon.
- 27:11And, but right then you just felt sad for these people, but
- 27:20it rolled off. It didn't cause us to then want
- 27:25to somehow make peace and reconciliation with that
- 27:27religion. So I think it's so cool how God
- 27:31way back then already knew that. Well, God speaking through Paul,
- 27:36how that these people need to hear that.
- 27:39You remember when you first came to the truth and people were
- 27:41laughing at you, you were like a gazing stock and you were being
- 27:46persecuted. You remember that.
- 27:47You remember how you just kept right on believing.
- 27:49You weren't moved. You knew the Savior.
- 27:52You knew the blood of Christ, you knew the sacrifice, you
- 27:55believed it and you stood on it and you were strong and you
- 27:58didn't shake. You remember that like just you
- 28:02don't feel it as much right now, but remember it like know that
- 28:05you're OK, you're fine. Stay with Christ.
- 28:08And I, I, I don't know. I, I am excited about that
- 28:12because that gives me courage that I think right now when
- 28:15we're struggling, when we are like, man.
- 28:18And then sure enough, another religion pops up and says, well,
- 28:21the reason you're feeling this way is you're not doing this.
- 28:24The reason that you're don't have peas or that you're sick or
- 28:27that you're not feeling the way you should be is you're not
- 28:30doing 123456789101112. Like all these little steps you
- 28:34can do to make you, you know, God had put this in place in the
- 28:38Old Testament for a reason. And you know, there's a reasons
- 28:42for all these things and these laws and stuff, and you will
- 28:44feel better if you do it and all these reasons to do these
- 28:48things. And God is saying, remember, the
- 28:51moment that you believed, you had no confidence in anything
- 28:55except the blood of Christ. That's all you knew is that you
- 28:58were done. You were lost, and you were
- 29:01hanging at the thread of mercy and grace, except God would
- 29:04reach you with mercy and grace and forgiveness and redemption.
- 29:09You're lost. Go back to that and stand on it
- 29:12and shine for Jesus. That's what I think, he said.
- 29:15Yeah, that's right, Melvin. Yeah, I think that's a good
- 29:20point. And that's the point I wanted to
- 29:22make too, is that we remember he there's a reason he says there
- 29:27but call to remembrance of former days in which after you
- 29:30were eliminated and you dared endured a great fight of
- 29:33afflictions. He said just think back and
- 29:35remember so that you know you don't forget, right, because we
- 29:41are forgetful people. And in Revelation chapter 2 and
- 29:47Christ says to the church at Ephesus there he says he
- 29:52compliments them for all the good things that they're doing,
- 29:55and they were doing a lot of good things.
- 29:58The believers were there in Ephesus.
- 29:59But he says, I have somewhat one thing against thee, because thou
- 30:06has left thy first love. And he says, if you will not
- 30:09repent from this, I will remove your Candlestick there in in on
- 30:14the throne. And so I think it's, it's
- 30:17important to remember being remembered.
- 30:21So what Christ did, because that's what he's saying here.
- 30:25He's pointing out what Christ has done and how important it
- 30:29is. And then he's now he's reminding
- 30:32them to not forget that. And and also that we don't
- 30:36forget that in the midst of afflictions.
- 30:38Like you said, Andrew, I think it's so easy.
- 30:43So it seems like a lot of churches in America, I don't
- 30:49want to bash churches, but a lot of people in America when they
- 30:53when they say, yeah, you know, here's the gospel of Jesus.
- 30:56And if you give your life to Jesus, everything is just going
- 30:58to be perfect and everything is going to be, you know, hunky
- 31:01Dory. You will never have any bad day
- 31:03in your whole life ever again. And that's not true.
- 31:08The here in America, we we very rarely which we might see today
- 31:14coming that that might happen, but we very rarely have to pay a
- 31:17price for our faith, right. And so in most other countries,
- 31:25when someone puts their faith in Jesus Christ and in Jesus Christ
- 31:29alone, they're going to possibly die.
- 31:34And so I don't know I think when when you the reason he's
- 31:38pointing that out here about their afflictions I see and the
- 31:43reproaches that they experienced because of Christ is so that
- 31:48they remember that Jesus Christ is way it's worth it all.
- 31:53It doesn't matter what you experience that in reproach or
- 31:58in in being tortured for your faith or whatever it may be.
- 32:03Christ is worth it all and and don't turn back to the law.
- 32:07Don't don't turn away from Christ.
- 32:09So anyway. Yep, that that's good.
- 32:13Go ahead. Aaron, I'm going to, I'm going
- 32:19to kind of jump down and I'm not, I don't want to like I
- 32:26don't want to miss the verses in between, But he says in verse 36
- 32:31for you have need of patience that after you've done the will
- 32:34of God, you might receive the promise.
- 32:39I, I think it's more, I think it's more like this.
- 32:42Not not saying you all wasn't saying this.
- 32:44I just think our experience is different.
- 32:46In other words, all of us here suffered when we saw the gospel.
- 32:51There was a point in which we give up the religion we had.
- 32:55It cost us maybe family or church ties or whatever, but
- 33:02we've all been blessed to start our own thing or do something
- 33:06new. And it's kind of like that's in
- 33:08the past. Well, I think their situation's
- 33:10a little different. I think that they are continuing
- 33:15to suffer for this, right? It's not getting any better.
- 33:19It's actually. So I think when he says call to
- 33:22remembrance, the former days in which after you were
- 33:24illuminated, you endured a great fight of affliction, I think
- 33:27he's saying go back and think about how how much you felt like
- 33:34it was worth it to go through that first thing, right?
- 33:38Because that's why I think he says in verse 36, you have need
- 33:42to patience. You need to patiently endure
- 33:46right on. Even though it's not seemingly
- 33:48getting any better or maybe it's even getting worse or whatever.
- 33:52You need to keep knowing that it is worth it like you did in the
- 33:56beginning, right? And I think that that's for me
- 34:00anyway, that is, I don't, I don't have to remember that all
- 34:05the time because I'm, I have moved on.
- 34:08I'm not suffering the same things I was back then.
- 34:10And I think that that is what I that's what I see in this.
- 34:15You know, he's reminding of them, reminding them of what all
- 34:18they went through when they first believed it.
- 34:21To keep on believing it is worth it.
- 34:23You thought it was worth it back then.
- 34:25It is worth it. Keep on believing that.
- 34:28Yeah. I would agree.
- 34:30And you're, I don't know if you see Cameron's comment there, but
- 34:33that, you know, he says that Andrew, I went through that too
- 34:38when you were talking about, you know, how it was to be ridiculed
- 34:41by the the Deacon or whatever there that was, that was hard.
- 34:46You know, looking back now, we can kind of chuckle about it and
- 34:48like and realize that they just simply didn't know the truth.
- 34:52So that they're the way they handle that is through ridicule.
- 34:55Like, we would have done the same thing.
- 34:58I know for a fact that I did that to other people that
- 35:01probably had a lot better relationship with Jesus than I
- 35:04did. I didn't know how to handle
- 35:06that, so I ridiculed it. You know, that's kind of
- 35:08standard response, right? So we can't really blame that.
- 35:11But like he said, it looked tiny, but it was big when it was
- 35:16happening. And it was, you know, when we
- 35:17got converted in the first time, you know, someone spoke against
- 35:20you. It was like, wow, you know, but
- 35:23it was worth it. We were happily doing it and I I
- 35:26agree with what you were saying there, that the what he wants
- 35:30out of this conversation here is for us to remember how willingly
- 35:34we did it, though. That's right.
- 35:36It was, it was just part of what we do was going to come.
- 35:39And and, you know, I think stuff like Charlie Kirk's
- 35:43assassination, stuff like that, you know, kind of is a little
- 35:46bit of that same thing. You know, there's always where
- 35:47there is where there is seems like always where there is
- 35:52contention or where there is a point like look at China, any
- 35:55persecuted church, they just they thrive.
- 35:57Actually, they do the opposite of what physically you would
- 36:00expect them to do. And so it's a good a byproduct
- 36:04of a little persecution is fervor for God.
- 36:08And so that, I mean, he's just reminding us a little bit of the
- 36:11same thing here, but. Can I say a wild thing that
- 36:13probably might, may even make you guys upset at me?
- 36:17Well, if we were going to be upset, we'd already be, so
- 36:20that's fine. I'm just throwing out a theory
- 36:24here. So God says in the last days
- 36:29many will depart from the faith because of traditions, some old
- 36:35carnal ordinances, the law. Charlie Kirk wasn't an apit
- 36:41Judaizer like he was. I didn't know that until after
- 36:45he was shot. What if that now gets all these
- 36:49people keep the Sabbath and like they want to be like Charlie
- 36:52Kurt, I'm going to do look at well, did you hear what that
- 36:56martyr, that guy that died for Christ, He's look what he did.
- 37:01I'm going to do that. I'm going to do what he did and
- 37:04they're going to start following all his things.
- 37:07Is that how one of the ways that many will depart from the faith.
- 37:12Now there I said it. Maybe it was blasphemy.
- 37:16Well, I just know that that in the text here, he's asking us to
- 37:21stand for the truth, you know, and, and so whether Charlie was
- 37:25or was not is, is not really in my realm to say, but, you know,
- 37:28I, I knew he did say a lot of good things, but I know that
- 37:32there was some other stuff like that that I thought about too.
- 37:35So I just cringe how many people and I'm, I'm one of them.
- 37:39I, I even said at our fellowship that I think we need to remember
- 37:43his name for a long time and we might should, but I was really
- 37:49disappointed to see how people are responding and how that my
- 37:54news feed changed from him speaking the gospel to a lot of
- 37:59the doctrines that he believed. And he's like, man, I can see
- 38:03Satan full time at work with this one and he's going to bring
- 38:06about this thing. So he'll.
- 38:10Take a hold of whatever he can. That's right.
- 38:12Believe. Believe.
- 38:13Believe what he said when he said Jesus Christ is everything
- 38:17and just throw out the rest. You know where our faith gets
- 38:21tried at this time, even right now, every day is when God made
- 38:27the promise that through the power of the Holy Ghost in US is
- 38:30what's going to empower us to live a different life.
- 38:33We're going to have something that is different than any other
- 38:36person, but then we get tried and tended with sin and it
- 38:40almost feels like there's, maybe it's just me, but I sometimes
- 38:44feel like where's the victory? Where is the Holy Ghost?
- 38:48Why am I so heavily tempted in this obvious blatant sin?
- 38:52Why is that even a thing in my mind?
- 38:54Why am I even dealing with it? Why is that even anywhere close
- 38:58to me? If I have the Holy Spirit in me,
- 39:00why is that even a thought? I believe the gospel, I believe
- 39:05all the things that Jesus did, but that's still, I still have
- 39:08to deal with this thing and resist it physically, mentally
- 39:14in every way, shape and form resists this evil resists and
- 39:19stand against it. I actually have to do it.
- 39:21Jesus doesn't just come and just take it away.
- 39:24I actually have to spend energy and strength and faith and
- 39:30exercise my mind and brain and, and renew my mind and the gospel
- 39:35and the truth and, and fight this thing or I just do it like,
- 39:40and so that's a very trying of your faith like, well, where is
- 39:44the power? Where is the victory?
- 39:46Jesus promised me all this victory.
- 39:47Why am I fighting? Why does it feel like the
- 39:49victory's not there sometimes? And I think that's a challenge
- 39:53on our side that we, you know, that's a faith challenge.
- 39:57And so quickly, people will come along to try to say, well,
- 40:01that's why you still need this, you know?
- 40:03Yeah, I haven't, I haven't read. I know Charlie wrote a book
- 40:09about the Sabbath or something like that.
- 40:10I haven't read the book. But I did hear him say today,
- 40:13like I heard him replay something that he said.
- 40:15He said something about. He was talking about the like
- 40:19keeping a day. And he said, I'm not saying this
- 40:23to like, I don't know how he worded it, but he was basically
- 40:25saying, I'm not saying this to bring salvation or anything like
- 40:29that, but he said we was a far better country when we took a,
- 40:31he said he referred to like the blue laws or something.
- 40:34I guess when everybody, the whole country shut down for a
- 40:37day, you know, like the country shut down for a day and all
- 40:41that. So I I don't know all the
- 40:43details of that, but I when you said that it kind of reminded me
- 40:46of this verse in Philippians one where he says some indeed preach
- 40:52Christ even of envy and strife and some also of goodwill.
- 40:56The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely
- 40:59supposing to add affliction to my bonds, but the other of love,
- 41:03knowing that I'm set for the defense of the gospel.
- 41:05What then, notwithstanding every way, whether in pretense or in
- 41:10truth, Christ is preached and I are in do rejoice A and will
- 41:14rejoice. I think that I, I'm like you, I
- 41:19can, I could find fault. I think any of us could find
- 41:23fault with basically anybody that's faces out there, right?
- 41:26I mean, we could all do that. But I guess I would just say
- 41:29this that that I do think it's worth focusing on that the
- 41:34majority of our government stood up and like proclaimed the name
- 41:38of Christ, which is a big deal. You know what I mean?
- 41:41That's a big deal. And I'm like you, I hope that
- 41:44the little details don't get in the way, but that's a big deal.
- 41:49You know, Yep, I'm 100% that's where I'm at.
- 41:53I just wanted to throw out like the the danger.
- 41:56Let's not just swallow the whole thing and be like Charlie, you
- 42:01know, because the fact I saw that too, where the vice
- 42:05president is talking and Marco Rubio, I mean, they're they're
- 42:10sharing the gospel. I mean, they're preaching these
- 42:13senators, Governor's preaching the gospel, I mean.
- 42:18And there. What?
- 42:19I don't want to take anything away from that.
- 42:21And there was there was more people tuned into that memorial
- 42:25than than there was to the Super Bowl.
- 42:26Ever like in history? Praise the Lord, praise the
- 42:30Lord. I just hope these little
- 42:32doctrines, you know, any of us believers can take a day off.
- 42:38That's when you make that a a thing and you teach it that you
- 42:43need to do this as a Christian. All of them would say it has no
- 42:46salvation issue. It's not about the gospel.
- 42:49They would all say that even the Amish now know to say that their
- 42:53rules is not about the gospel. But we still know if you took
- 42:55away the rules, they would excommunicate you like you're
- 42:58it's it's a lie, you know. So I, I just like you were
- 43:05saying, is that I just hope that the gospel out, it's that volume
- 43:13is louder than any of these little things that Satan's going
- 43:18to use in the last days to keep people from believing and
- 43:20trusting in the gospel of Christ.
- 43:21Yeah. Yeah.
- 43:23You know, I, I would like to come to run and defend Charlie
- 43:26Kirk right here and say, well, you know that book, I didn't
- 43:29read it, but you know that he advocated for a day of rest and,
- 43:34and, and physically that is a good idea.
- 43:36I mean that that law was there because God made our bodies that
- 43:40way. So it's, it's not a bad thing.
- 43:42And I don't know if he equated that with a part of satisfying
- 43:46God or a part of just keeping your body healthy.
- 43:49I don't know. And it doesn't really matter
- 43:51here for this discussion anyway. I, I do know I agree with you.
- 43:55The gospel got preached and Cameron once again hit it on the
- 43:58head. You can read that comment there.
- 44:00When you're on beat, you'll notice that the milk really
- 44:02isn't quite enough to sustain you.
- 44:04You know, you'll see some of those things once you get, which
- 44:08is good. And I hope that my life never
- 44:12gets as critically eyed as Charlie Kirk's did.
- 44:16Yeah. You know, because I posit
- 44:17there'd be plenty, plenty of flaws there and people would
- 44:20say, well, yeah, you really, you know, he he did kind of this
- 44:23though, you know. So yeah, I think it's good to
- 44:26discuss that. But I don't, I would like to be
- 44:28critical of Charlie because he was, he was a workhorse for the
- 44:30Kingdom of God in a lot of ways, yeah.
- 44:34And when I read that verse, I wasn't saying he was preaching
- 44:37it out of contention. I was actually saying that
- 44:41that's what I'm focusing on. Is that the name of Christ being
- 44:45in great ways because of this, and that's worthy to be praised
- 44:49you. Know, like I find it interesting
- 44:51that he actually praised that in that verse.
- 44:54That surprises me a little bit, even even the wrong motive,
- 44:58because I've always thought that, you know, Sweetwater can't
- 45:03come from a salty well you. Know so.
- 45:06Well, I can tell. I think I can tell you part of
- 45:09it is, and this is what this is. This is what my hope is.
- 45:15I'm like, I don't know. I don't know what's going to
- 45:17happen. But my hope is that people will
- 45:21hear the name of Christ. And you know, it's like, what's
- 45:27the verse where he says that he's given him a name above
- 45:29every name that at the name of Jesus, every niche about.
- 45:32It's like when somebody says the name Jesus, you don't say which
- 45:37one, right? There's not the one you don't
- 45:41think of which Jesus we talking about here.
- 45:43So I guess I would just say that I that's my hope is that when
- 45:47people hear this name of Christ, of Jesus Christ, they're going
- 45:52to look that out. I mean, because I have heard
- 45:54Charlie say this many times, get you a Bible and read your Bible,
- 45:58right? You know, so, so that's what
- 46:01that's what my hope. Is.
- 46:02Is that people? Will and that's not and I'm I
- 46:05said that to say this. That's why Paul could say that
- 46:08he's saying his name is getting out there and I'm going to
- 46:12rejoice because his name is getting out there.
- 46:14You know the name of Jesus. Yeah, I don't feel like we need
- 46:18to keep belaboring this. What I the reason I have a
- 46:22stance I do is because in the last days, that's how people
- 46:27will depart from the faith. And he does say that if you
- 46:31teach any part of the law, you're guilty of the whole
- 46:33thing. So you don't tell them it has
- 46:35nothing to do with salvation if that's God's conclusion.
- 46:39And if God says that if you're circumcised, you're falling from
- 46:43grace, he doesn't check your motives and say, well, are you
- 46:47thinking this has to do with your salvation or what?
- 46:49No, he just said, and he also says he uses the word lying,
- 46:52hypocrisy. All those things are associated
- 46:54with the idea of someone teaching about certain food.
- 47:01And so I just think as Bible scholars, we should be at least
- 47:08humble enough to say, look, let's not swallow.
- 47:12Let's not swallow just because we know Charlie was a man of God
- 47:16and he did many wonderful things.
- 47:19Let's not swallow up all the like just folks lying and sinker
- 47:25and know that still be aware of what God is warning us and
- 47:29especially the book we're going through.
- 47:31Yeah, yeah, we can honor David for what he did as a king, and
- 47:35yet we could be critical of his sin with Bathsheba.
- 47:38That's it. Thank you.
- 47:42Same way. All right, Perfect.
- 47:44Let's see 30. 4. 34 yes, for ye had compassion of me in my bonds
- 47:51and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in
- 47:54yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring
- 47:59substance. So still bouncing off the same
- 48:02idea. I don't know if there's anything
- 48:06you want to comment on there. I'm going to actually read 35.
- 48:09So he's making that, please so as not to castaway there for
- 48:12your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.
- 48:16You go ahead on that, Andrew. Yeah, again, like he's known for
- 48:21in the book of Hebrews, he keeps repeating himself over and over
- 48:24and over and over to do everything possible to encourage
- 48:27these believers to go, you know, to stay strong, don't bend,
- 48:31don't don't cave in and don't let the pressure over shadow the
- 48:39the goodness of God. And he's like, you know, you
- 48:44guys had compassion when you saw me in bonds, like, you know, I I
- 48:49was also in bonds and you guys had compassion on me and and,
- 48:53you know, we were doing all this stuff together and we know that
- 48:56in heaven we have a better place.
- 48:58And he's like, don't castaway your confidence.
- 49:00We have a reward coming that is the beyond imagination and
- 49:08opposite of the reward that the the ones that try to under foot
- 49:11this this gospel. That would.
- 49:16Yeah, I just want to make one point.
- 49:19The the verse that comes to my mind when it says they're cast
- 49:22not away, they're for your confidence, which has great
- 49:26recompense of reward in Second Timothy.
- 49:31This is the verse that came to my mind.
- 49:33It says henceforth there is laid up for me crown of
- 49:35righteousness, which the Lord the righteous judge so give me
- 49:39at that day, and not to me only, but on to all them also that
- 49:43love his appearing. So there seems to be we know
- 49:51that there is a reward in heaven that he for us that that store
- 50:00up, you know, heavenly heavenly reward says in Matthew there
- 50:05store for yourselves up things that heaven and remark does not
- 50:09rust or corrupt, you know. And so that's what I think of
- 50:13here. He says and he's referring to
- 50:16the your confidence, your confidence in Christ cast that
- 50:20not away which had great recompense of reward because he
- 50:25said there in verse 34, but that you have in heaven a better and
- 50:31enduring substance that in heaven and better during
- 50:34substance is you know the Christ is the blood of Christ, right?
- 50:41There I, I mean, I guess this doesn't I'm always his to say it
- 50:48doesn't matter because I guess I, I think it, I don't think it
- 50:51matters, but I'm, I'm always wanting to say it's Paul.
- 50:56And this is actually one of the main verses that makes me think
- 50:59it's Paul. I know, I know.
- 51:02All honesty because. This sounds like you.
- 51:05It does. It just sounds like him and it
- 51:07sounds relevant and all that. But but but anyway, he says you
- 51:12had compassion of me in my bonds, which like I said, sounds
- 51:15so much like Paul and took joyfully the spoiling of your
- 51:17goods. And I want you to I want you to
- 51:23think about it like this. He basically said, the context
- 51:29of this is, remember all you gave up in the beginning when
- 51:32you first believed, right? What we just said that in the
- 51:34first few verses and he reminds them of a literal instance in
- 51:39which they were persecuted and reproached and afflictions and
- 51:45made a gazing stock. He says they're in the earth
- 51:48verses. And then he points them to
- 51:49another particular circumstance in which if this is Paul or
- 51:55whoever this is, he said, you all give me what, some of your
- 52:01goods, you know, like you literally give me some of your
- 52:05stuff And, and I and I, I guess it's possible, but it makes me
- 52:10think because he says it like that, it's not like us.
- 52:13It's not like we've got a cabinet full more than we'll
- 52:17ever use and we just give him the extra.
- 52:20It's like they actually he spoiled them, right?
- 52:23He said joyfully the spoiling of your goods, like he actually
- 52:27used something that they may have needed.
- 52:30But I want to play on this is he says to joyfully the spoiling of
- 52:36your goods, knowing in yourselves that you have in
- 52:39heaven a better and enduring substance.
- 52:42I mean, and I and I'm not taken away.
- 52:45I know that the blood of Christ is the thing that is in heaven
- 52:48itself. That's that's, you know, God is
- 52:52accepting on our behalf. But I also think this is very
- 52:56real. This is one of these things that
- 52:57I can I can sink my teeth into. He's saying you actually, God
- 53:03has literal treasures in heaven, like things for you up there,
- 53:10right. I mean like.
- 53:12Actually a. Tree that you can eat from
- 53:15actually a place to stay prepared for you actual things
- 53:20to do actual streets of gold. Like he's saying you didn't look
- 53:24at this. It's kind of like he's going to
- 53:26say in the end of Chapter 11. You realized people say such
- 53:31things are pilgrims and strangers in this land right
- 53:34you're you're looking for a country that has better things
- 53:38than this right. So I, I really think that is,
- 53:42it's very literal in the sense that he says you in the
- 53:46beginning, you were so sure of it that you would give me, you
- 53:50would let me spoil things that you might think you might need
- 53:53because you realize that there's something better physically,
- 53:57like a, an actual thing waiting for you in heaven, right?
- 54:02That's what he says. Spoiling of your goods, knowing
- 54:04in yourselves that you have in heaven a better and enduring
- 54:09substance. And then he says in verse 35, as
- 54:12you all already said, cast not away.
- 54:15Therefore, like since that's true, since you gave up all that
- 54:21stuff in the beginning, since you even spoiled your goods for
- 54:24me, since you had compassion on me when I was in prison.
- 54:27Look back, you know, being as that's all true, don't cast it
- 54:31away now, right? And that's why I jumped ahead to
- 54:33verse 36 a while ago. You just need to endure a little
- 54:38longer right. You have need of patience just
- 54:41keep enduring and that's that's cast not away there for your
- 54:45confidence, but. Yeah, that's that's good.
- 54:49I got another thought if it's OK.
- 54:51Yep. So there's a lot of Amish that
- 54:58are searching and I would just like if anyone's listening.
- 55:04I hope you can see the book of Hebrews here and all those
- 55:08things that you're so scared of, like excommunication is such a
- 55:12big deal in an Amish mind, the way we've been conditioned to
- 55:15thinking that somehow excommunication just
- 55:18automatically gives you the hell sentence.
- 55:21And I just would like to encourage you that that that
- 55:28threat of being excommunicated looks pretty pathetic in light
- 55:32of the sufferings that Paul and all those people suffered.
- 55:37They were sawing asunder. They were, I mean, they gave up
- 55:39their lives, they gave up their marriages, they gave up their
- 55:42kids. They got, they saw their
- 55:43children being butchered right in front of them.
- 55:46They saw their little girls being raped right in front of
- 55:48them, burned at the state. And we're worried about getting
- 55:51excommunicated. That's pretty pathetic.
- 55:53So I want to encourage you, us soft softies in America, that
- 56:00the things that we think we're suffering is peanuts.
- 56:06That's right. We'll do another verse.
- 56:09You're gonna be kind of quick here, but for you have need of
- 56:12patience, and Aaron already commented on that a little bit,
- 56:14but for you have need of patience that after you have
- 56:17done the will of God, you might receive the promise.
- 56:19So in other words, it's not the guy that begins the race that
- 56:24wins, it's the guy that finishes the race that wins.
- 56:28So there's a bunch of different verses that could be spoken
- 56:31about here, but he's just reiterating that you started in
- 56:35good faith. You started that you endured
- 56:38that great fight of afflictions. He called it a couple verses
- 56:41back. Hang in there, hang in there.
- 56:44You're going to need that. And that is that is
- 56:46encouragement to all of us. I think it goes back to what we
- 56:49said earlier, You know, hold fast to that profession of Jesus
- 56:53Christ. Hang on to that thing because it
- 56:54is what is going to keep you surviving.
- 56:56It is what is going to bring you into heaven and it's going to
- 56:59allow you to stand before the living God in utter, utter
- 57:08boldness. I guess is the word word to use
- 57:10there. It is it nothing else that'll do
- 57:13that. And.
- 57:14I like the word patience in there a lot because it tells us
- 57:18that he knows that what we're dealing with is difficult.
- 57:23So I can know that when things are difficult, doesn't mean I'm
- 57:26wrong. It just means I need patience.
- 57:29Yeah, It doesn't mean that. Yeah, doesn't mean I'm wrong.
- 57:34It doesn't mean that I'm on the wrong road or on the wrong
- 57:36track. Or if I was, if I was in the
- 57:39will of God, my life would be better.
- 57:41I wouldn't be dealing with all these struggles and problems if
- 57:43I was in the will of God. Actually, we are being tried,
- 57:48except the trying of our faith is more precious than silver and
- 57:52gold. Like that's pretty precious.
- 57:54And if the trying is that precious, then he says, don't
- 57:58think it's strange if we are trying because, you know, why
- 58:01wouldn't you? Why wouldn't you try to get more
- 58:04things that are more precious than gold?
- 58:05So of course he's going to do it.
- 58:07So when things are tough and hard, I'm glad that the word
- 58:10patience in there to remind us that that that that encourages
- 58:14me because hey, Christian life takes patience.
- 58:19Sure does, because we live a long time.
- 58:23By the time you get saved from the time you die is a long time
- 58:28for some people. You just got to hang in there,
- 58:30Melvin. Yeah, I'm just going to say, you
- 58:32know, most of us want an easy life, including myself.
- 58:36You know, I want everything just be, be glorious and gravy.
- 58:39But you know, the simple fact is this is that if everything in
- 58:43your life is perfect, then you might not be walking in the will
- 58:47of God, because when you're walking in the will of God,
- 58:52there is going to come afflictions and what he was
- 58:56describing that they experienced there.
- 58:58And so that's and and that should like that shouldn't scare
- 59:03us like in other words, another thing is, is that when you are
- 59:07not, if you're not experiencing hardship or hard things in your
- 59:13life, then you're probably not going to be growing.
- 59:18So God knows what we need and, and now let's just look to him
- 59:24and, you know, trust in Jesus, man be be faithful.
- 59:29Yep. There.
- 59:33I guess I'm kind of going backwards, but I see this as a
- 59:39whole. Like I see this as a whole
- 59:41comment here and it kind of stuck out to me that back in
- 59:45verse 32 when he started it, he says, but call to remembrance
- 59:50the former days in which after ye were illuminated.
- 59:53And I know we've kind of already said this, but it was it was
- 59:58like when you saw it, me and my wife have said this.
- 1:00:01This was kind of our way of saying it.
- 1:00:02It was once I saw the gospel, I couldn't Unsee it.
- 1:00:09And illuminated is a good word. It was like once I once the
- 1:00:13light comes on and I see it. I could try to go back and think
- 1:00:17I like I used to, but I could not see it regardless of what I
- 1:00:21tried to hold on to or what I tried to, you know, put into it.
- 1:00:25So I think that that's, you know, I think that that's what
- 1:00:29he's calling them to go back and think about, think about how
- 1:00:33that was when you first saw it, the way you felt and how
- 1:00:36confident you was in it and all that and, and keep enduring, you
- 1:00:42know, have that patience that you need, you know that.
- 1:00:46And again, to kind of sum it up, that when you've done what God,
- 1:00:51you know, would ask you to do and keeping on believing, you
- 1:00:55would receive the promise, you know, like, I mean, that's,
- 1:00:57that's, that's that is the end goal is that you would be able
- 1:01:03to, well, let me say it like this.
- 1:01:06God, he's going to say it in the next chapter that he that cometh
- 1:01:10God must believe that he is and that he's a rewarder of them
- 1:01:14that diligently seek him, right? God is not saying it's like if
- 1:01:20there's not, you know, what's the other place is that in the
- 1:01:231st Corinthians 15, where is it that he says that we are all
- 1:01:27being most miserable, you know, if Christ didn't rise from the
- 1:01:30dead. So, you know, it's like God is
- 1:01:32not saying let's just see if they'll do it.
- 1:01:37Right. He's actually saying here's a
- 1:01:40promise for those that believe me, here's a promise of
- 1:01:43something in the future, a better city, a better all that.
- 1:01:49And if you will keep it up, God is a rewarder, right?
- 1:01:54He really is. And I and I'm not.
- 1:01:58I just, it's like we said about the fear thing earlier, all
- 1:02:01these things are healthy, right? I mean, it is a healthy thing to
- 1:02:04be looking forward to the reward.
- 1:02:06That's what he just ended that comment with is have the
- 1:02:10patience that you'll receive the promise, right?
- 1:02:14Yeah. So I mean, I just think that
- 1:02:16that is that is also a healthy thing to be looking forward, you
- 1:02:21know, to go ahead. I, I spoke on at a wedding on
- 1:02:25Sunday and I spoke about the invitation that they got in the
- 1:02:30mail to this wedding and how that there's also a standing
- 1:02:33invitation for a greater wedding supper feast.
- 1:02:37You know that reminded me. I heard a guy talk about it,
- 1:02:41that God actually wants to lavish his vast resources on his
- 1:02:49bride. Like.
- 1:02:51He's in this for the love of it, not the hatred for it of it.
- 1:02:56You know, he wants to spend the rest of eternity using his
- 1:03:02resources to prove to us how great of a God he is.
- 1:03:07That is actually what he wants to do.
- 1:03:08And I just that that's why it's so important that we trust his
- 1:03:12son Jesus with our life because it depends on it.
- 1:03:16It really does. Now close with this, Andrew
- 1:03:20Wommack is a minister. I listen to you a lot in the
- 1:03:23past. I don't really anymore, but he
- 1:03:25said one time this always stuck in my head.
- 1:03:29He said the only reason that you're not bumping into the
- 1:03:31devil is because you're headed in the same direction.
- 1:03:36Like talking about an easy Christian life.
- 1:03:40He said if you are doing the work of God, you're going to
- 1:03:42bump into Satan because you're hot headed.
- 1:03:45Operate up the separate directions.
- 1:03:46So I was just going to say, how do we expect to fit in A Kingdom
- 1:03:52of darkness when we're part of a Kingdom of light?
- 1:03:54That's right there. There's a vast, vast difference
- 1:03:57there. Anyway, we went 3 minutes over
- 1:03:59our time. I promise not to do that again
- 1:04:01all. Right.
- 1:04:03As we conclude today's study, remember Hebrews 11/1.
- 1:04:07I'll try that. Remember Hebrews 11/1.
- 1:04:10We're going to talk about that verse next week, probably.
- 1:04:13Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and it's the evidence
- 1:04:15of things that we can't see. May your faiths reveal biblical
- 1:04:18truths more clearly than your physical eyes can perceive the
- 1:04:21things before you. Join us next Monday night, same
- 1:04:24time, same place. We're going to start in verse
- 1:04:2737, and we're going to keep on going through this book.
- 1:04:30God bless you guys. Thanks for your time, Appreciate
- 1:04:32you like always.
