Latest / Lisa & Russell / The Shaw Report - I Can't Believe It Cleared The Dance Floor
Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: The Shaw Report. When he reviewed it the other day,
- 0:07Speaker 1: Ben O'Shea gave Tom Cruise's new film a big thumbs up.
- 0:11Speaker 1: He did. I think he gave it four points. Four?
- 0:13Speaker 1: Was it four or four and a half? I know,
- 0:15Speaker 1: it was high. But the box office, just like computer
- 0:19Speaker 1: in Little Britain, said no. In Digger, Tom Cruise portrays
- 0:24Speaker 1: a powerful oil tycoon who is bracing for an ecological
- 0:27Speaker 1: disaster of epic proportions, but nothing could have prepared him
- 0:31Speaker 1: for the catastrophe that's unfolding at the box office where
- 0:34Speaker 1: Digger has collapsed, taking an embarrassing $ 20 million globally. Now,
- 0:42Speaker 1: to give that some perspective, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, for example,
- 0:46Speaker 1: made $ 246 million in its opening weekend a few weeks ago. Spider-Man,
- 0:52Speaker 1: brand new day, made $ 927 million in its opening weekend.
- 0:58Speaker 1: In its opening weekend. It's taken $ 2 point something billion now.
- 1:02Speaker 1: The cinema boffins are saying with a production budget nearing
- 1:05Speaker 1: $ 250 million, Digger will wind up as not just one
- 1:09Speaker 1: of the biggest bombs of the year, but potentially of
- 1:12Speaker 1: all time. And it's not even going to be able
- 1:15Speaker 1: to rely on rentals from Video Easy to make money
- 1:19Speaker 1: back over, you know, the next 20, 30 years. Oh.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Tickets for next year's Glastonbury Festival sold out in 42
- 1:26Speaker 1: minutes yesterday. I think there's about 210,000 of them on offer.
- 1:28Speaker 1: So it's slightly more popular than Digger? Just a bit.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And those tickets are $ 776 a pop. I'm assuming they
- 1:36Speaker 1: cover everything across the five days. You'd hope so at
- 1:40Speaker 1: that price. A spot to put up your tent, all
- 1:44Speaker 1: the shows, everything. It's cheaper than the Royal Shove. Absolutely.
- 1:47Speaker 1: No official lineup has been released yet. Despite speculation, organizers
- 1:50Speaker 1: have ruled out Madonna and Oasis. But Robbie Williams is
- 1:53Speaker 1: a good bet for one of the headline spots. There's
- 1:55Speaker 1: a lot of talk about Harry Styles and Sam Fender.
- 1:58Speaker 1: And there was a rumor late last week about Rod Stewart. Evidently,
- 2:03Speaker 1: he has a Glastonbury-sized gap in his final tour schedule.
- 2:09Speaker 1: What a way to say goodbye. So they're saying maybe
- 2:11Speaker 1: Rod will do it at Glastonbury. Now, an unreleased Led
- 2:15Speaker 1: Zeppelin single has surfaced after 55 years. It's something the
- 2:19Speaker 1: band had intended to be destroyed, but it's ended up
- 2:23Speaker 1: on an episode of Antiques Roadshow with an estimated auction
- 2:26Speaker 1: value of around £ 1, 000 or 1900 Australian dollars. Led Zeppelin
- 2:32Speaker 1: always maintained a very strict no single rule, focusing solely
- 2:37Speaker 1: on album releases. That's why this was never meant to
- 2:40Speaker 1: be in single form, that is. But this copy ended
- 2:43Speaker 1: up in the hands of a man who was looking
- 2:45Speaker 1: to start a disco in the early 70s. And he
- 2:47Speaker 1: says he did play the single maybe eight to ten
- 2:50Speaker 1: times at his discos, but it was not well received.
- 2:53Speaker 1: In fact, it cleared the dance floor, he said. Do
- 2:56Speaker 1: you want to know what song it was or is?
- 3:00Speaker 1: I am intrigued. It is this one. It's a toe-tapper.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Or a foot stomper. What happened was after the success
- 3:14Speaker 1: of Whole Lotta Love in the US, where it was
- 3:17Speaker 1: certified gold, Atlantic Records pressed around 500 copies of it
- 3:21Speaker 1: as a single. Yeah, right. Despite the band's no singles policy.
- 3:24Speaker 1: So the band wasn't happy and they demanded all the
- 3:28Speaker 1: singles be recalled and destroyed, but of course a few
- 3:30Speaker 1: slipped through. And fast forward half a century and there
- 3:33Speaker 1: it is living on on Antiques Roadshow. That's a gem.
- 3:35Speaker 1: How about that? What a find. I can't believe Whole
- 3:38Speaker 1: Lotta Love cleared the dance floor. Well, I mean, I
- 3:41Speaker 1: guess it's not one to dance to, but gee, it's
- 3:45Speaker 1: a good song. Well, it's the song you put on
- 3:47Speaker 1: when you want everybody to leave. It's time to go.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Last drinks. Put the aircon up. Go grab a taxi.
- 3:54Speaker 1: It's time to go home. Here's Zeppelin. There you go.
