You'll find the five star option somewhere on the page. And, yeah, it it makes a huge difference to our show and making a good one. So thank you in advance. Grandma, let's talk about what we have been up to the last week or so. We had a nice Father's Day brunch.
• 1:47
Speaker 4: Very it was delicious, actually. But the weather the weather is the story in New York every weekend. I mean, I don't think I could take it anymore. It's I don't know how many weekends in a row, but we haven't seen the sun. And And
• 2:01
Speaker 3: you're, like, really into the weather. Like, you're always talking about it. So I, like, I think that maybe we petition for you to be a weather
• 2:08
Speaker 4: I I would like to be a weather girl. I have to or weather lady. I have to tell you the truth. I planted flowers, and they're drowning, and my daughter-in-law planted vegetables. I think they're growing already.
• 2:20
It's like Jack and the Beanstalk from all the rain.
• 2:22
  Speaker 3: You're getting a green screen, and you're doing the weather for a fall. Okay. Because I can't I don't care.
• 2:28
Speaker 4: Oh, you don't care.
• 2:29
Speaker 3: You have to find somebody who cares. No.
• 2:31
Speaker 4: I feel A lot of people care.
• 2:32
Speaker 3: Yeah. I am actually picky about the weather. Like, I can only look at AccuWeather. I don't trust any other weather source.
• 2:38
Speaker 4: Well, lately, the weather's been very accurate. It's just rain, but alright, Kim. But it hasn't interfered with all the red carpets we've been doing. We've been doing a lot of dressing up and going on carpets. That's for sure.
• 2:49
Speaker 3: Yes. And I wanna get to because I went to the f one movie yesterday, so I wanna get to that. And it was a little rainy. But Father's Day, we had a buffet, and I wanted to ask about buffet eating etiquette because my dad and I, we were a little late.
• 3:04
  Speaker 4: Yes. As usual.
• 3:06
Speaker 3: As usual. But we told everyone we were gonna be late. So and it was at least an hour in advance. So if you tell people you're gonna be late an hour in advance, is that okay because you haven't left the house yet?
• 3:16
Speaker 4: No. I don't think it's okay to be even five minutes late. You have a family dinner. It's been organized at least two, three weeks in advance. If there's something that causes what could you possibly be doing at 01:00 that you can't be on time?
• 3:32
Just time management. Well, but that's rude to everybody else. So in other words, at 01:00 when it's called for, we had an hors d'oeuvre.
• 3:40
Speaker 3: Well, right. We walked in and everyone had eaten
• 3:43
Speaker 4: their No. Not eaten. Just in a first course. Just in first course. But we're sitting there and it's quarter after one and everybody else managed to get there at 01:00.
• 3:52
Speaker 3: I guess. I think you were eating out of spite of us complaining.
• 3:55
Speaker 4: No, I don't think so. You should read that much into it, but we're sitting at a table. And I really do think that your family has an issue with time. Not your mom and not your brother, but you and your father have have issues
• 4:08
Speaker 3: with family, you mean
• 4:09
Speaker 4: Just the two of you.
• 4:10
  Speaker 3: Got
• 4:11
Speaker 4: it. And it's really not right. It's very it actually means that you're disrespectful to the people you love.
• 4:16
Speaker 3: How how late was I to the podcast today?
• 4:18
Speaker 4: About fifteen minutes. No. Eight minutes. No. About fifteen minutes.
• 4:22
Eight. Seems be to a problem. If you're always fifteen minutes late, maybe you should start a little earlier so you could be on time.
• 4:30
Speaker 3: The crazy thing is I'm not doing anything before. Well, that's correct. It's not like I'm rushing from thing to thing, It's that I don't leave enough time.
• 4:41
Speaker 4: Well, that's course that's time management, and you both fail on that.
• 4:45
  Speaker 3: I guess. I don't know.
• 4:47
Speaker 4: I mean, we got there. We ate enough food. We ate enough food. So you caught up, but it it just is a little annoying.
• 4:54
Speaker 3: Yeah. I got my dad a Lovain cookies gift card.
• 4:58
Speaker 4: Oh my god. That's just what he needs.
• 5:01
Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, he
• 5:02
  Speaker 4: loves it.
• 5:03
Speaker 3: He loves it. So I thought that was a good gift. And I signed my name and my brother's name.
• 5:07
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 5:07
Speaker 3: I what do you think of, like, when you're getting a gift for a parent or a grandparent or whatever, do you always go in on it with your sibling, do you think?
• 5:16
Speaker 4: Yeah. I think when when you're both young yeah. We always did. I think when you get married, then you tend to end up not doing it Yeah.
• 5:23
Speaker 3: It's weird, guess, if I'm like, for me, my husband and my little brother.
• 5:26
Speaker 4: Unless both spouses or both children's siblings have spouses and they all agree to buy one thing. It all depends on the family dynamics, but I think when you're young and not attached to a partner, it's certainly the right thing to do, say, Come in on the gift with me or whatever.
• 5:41
Speaker 3: Is it the sister's job or the older sibling's job or just depends on the dynamic of the siblings?
• 5:47
Speaker 4: I think it's a dynamic, but somehow it's always the older person that takes charge of Makes of Yeah. Who's always in charge of everything. And it's usually if you're a sister, if you're the older girl, you tend to take charge of everything.
• 6:02
Speaker 3: Yeah. When you first met my dad, what did you think of him?
• 6:06
Speaker 4: I thought he was adorable, but he was but he always forgot things. He lost things from I've known him since he's 19 years old. He lost his camera. He lost his clothing. He lost his wallet.
• 6:18
  The good
• 6:18
Speaker 3: thing is it returns to him.
• 6:19
Speaker 4: It always returns to him. Sometimes the clothing came back pressed, which we still couldn't get over. That makes no We were all in Bermuda. Everybody packed their bags. He left all his clothes in the drawer when we left, and we said, oh, you'll never get it back.
• 6:34
And he gets it back in a carton with it all being perfectly washed and pressed. Yes. Took all his laundry and pressed it. So nice.
• 6:42
Speaker 3: Right. So it's like better off than
• 6:44
Speaker 4: Well, he is. If it would have been any of us, the other group and the thing, we would have never seen that as
• 6:48
Speaker 3: It never works that way. Even when he's late for things, like, gets there just as it's starting.
• 6:53
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 6:53
  Speaker 3: Like, there's never a repercussion.
• 6:55
  Speaker 4: I don't I don't get it. I know. But you are right.
• 6:58
Speaker 3: I know. Did you think when they when my dad and mom met, they were they would get married right away?
• 7:05
Speaker 4: Well, didn't get married right away.
• 7:06
Speaker 3: No, but I guess that they would marry each other, I mean.
• 7:09
Speaker 4: Well, in the beginning I always thought it was just a crush, but then after a few years I realized they were meant to be because they met very young. Your mom was 18 and he was 19, So, and they didn't get married when they were 25 and 20, almost 27, 26. But they were together a long time. And then when you tend to be either high school or college sweethearts, it's a different dynamic than when you're really not, you know, when you meet after school, when you're working already. I think it's a different you see each other differently.
• 7:44
Yeah. And you also grew up they grew up together,
• 7:47
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 7:48
  Speaker 4: Which is so
• 7:48
Speaker 3: They're for so many stages. Correct.
• 7:50
Speaker 4: For all stages. It's, like,
• 7:52
Speaker 3: not good. Well, I don't know if
• 7:54
Speaker 4: it's ever no. I don't think it's ever bad. Really? It's just you know each other so well.
• 7:58
Speaker 3: And then I was in college to an extent. And then they think of you as that. And then it's like, well, that's not who I am
• 8:04
Speaker 4: now. You know, I have to say something. When you marry somebody, and I can only do this, you tend to think of the person you're with the way they were when you first met them. You very rarely notice them as they are today. The traits and stuff that were attracted to you in the beginning really stay with you through a long relationship.
• 8:23
Mean, changes to some degree, but very much, partners see each other as they were, not necessarily as they are. And hopefully you grow together, I mean, you know, over the years, which they did.
• 8:37
Speaker 3: Yeah. So we think first year then matters a lot, kind of. Or even the first six months. Of a relationship? Yeah.
• 8:45
Or it matters in the way you are framing your mind to think about the person.
• 8:48
  Speaker 4: Maybe, maybe.
• 8:49
  Speaker 3: Kinda interesting.
• 8:50
Speaker 4: Maybe. I I met my husband when I was a senior going into my senior year in college, my brain so But was already I knew what I wanted and he fit the description of what I wanted. So your
• 9:07
Speaker 3: brain gets formed at twenty five?
• 9:08
Speaker 4: Twenty five, that's true, that's when it It
• 9:10
  Speaker 3: was preformed.
• 9:10
Speaker 4: So it was preformed, I think mine was formed already.
• 9:13
  Speaker 3: You would be
• 9:14
Speaker 4: ahead the But I think certain people know what they need. I was listening to that Kevin O'Leary the other day, who's the fellow from Shark Tank, and he talks about his wife and children all the time, and he was saying that the most important decision you ever make is to pick the right partner because
• 9:36
  Speaker 3: Well,
• 9:37
Speaker 4: you have to pick the right partner, of course, But what he was saying that that's really the most important thing, someone you know can go along with you on your road ahead.
• 9:48
Speaker 3: It's so crazy though, Poppy can't be the same person because if our listeners saw the Poppy reveal, he's like such a grandpa. Like, it couldn't have been like that when he was
• 9:57
Speaker 4: Well, he was always an old soul. He was never a wild and crazy thing. He always went to work. When he he went to school, he graduated. Well, actually, we got married the day he graduated college, so business school.
• 10:09
So, I mean, he was but in those days, in the in the early sixties and seventies, you filled a role. You didn't you you weren't know, you did what was expected of you that society expected. You went to school. You got married. You had children.
• 10:24
You had you you lived a pattern, and you didn't sort of deviate. If you live within a socioeconomic group, that you were basically everybody was doing the same thing.
• 10:36
Speaker 3: Okay. Let's move on to the f one movie that I saw yesterday because I wanted to
• 10:41
Speaker 4: How was that Apple adventure?
• 10:42
Speaker 3: Okay. It was an adventure. I will tell you that. It was like a whole day thing. And I was thinking of you because you like efficiency.
• 10:51
Right. And it was And there was a lot of, like, waiting around between
• 10:54
Speaker 4: That would drive me crazy. I knew that was gonna happen.
• 10:56
Speaker 3: But first, I get to this party, which was actually the in the addition Times Square. It was, like, a really pretty hotel.
• 11:04
Speaker 4: But wait a minute. First, you went to a costume thing, didn't you?
• 11:07
Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. In the morning, this was this was actually pretty interesting. It was really, like, short and sweet. Right. At 10AM at the Apple store in Soho, the costume designer of the f one movie, Julian Day, who also did, like, the Elton John.
• 11:20
Speaker 4: Yeah. It should have been very interesting.
• 11:22
Speaker 3: And so he kind of talked about his process. Mhmm. And he was interviewed by someone at Hearst. And that was interesting.
• 11:28
  Speaker 4: It was
• 11:29
Speaker 3: short conversation. We got to see the trailer.
• 11:31
Speaker 4: Well, that's fun. Okay. So that went without a hitch.
• 11:34
Speaker 3: Without a hitch. Went to this coffee place after, Cafe Paradiso, that's been all over Instagram. Okay. And it has like the the not foam tops, like cream top.
• 11:46
  Speaker 4: Okay. Alright.
• 11:47
Speaker 3: So I needed to try one of those while I was in San So that was good. And then, yes, 02:30 ish, I went to this party that was The
• 11:55
Speaker 4: second part of it.
• 11:56
Speaker 3: The pre party. Well, second first part of the night aspect. It was a whole
• 12:03
Speaker 4: hours and hours long day. So
• 12:06
Speaker 3: I get there and I'm already a little nervous because like usually you come with me or Eliza who's on our team comes with me. Right. I wasn't going with anybody. Everyone there had a plus one, so
• 12:15
Speaker 4: I don't Which really isn't right. If they go if if some people have plus ones, they should give everybody a plus don't
• 12:20
Speaker 3: what happened, but like, maybe I was a last minute addition. Who knows? But
• 12:25
Speaker 4: Maybe you didn't write it down clearly because you were late. No. No.
• 12:29
Speaker 3: I walk in. I look around the room. Every woman is in a floor length gown. Oh, that's ridiculous. Swear.
• 12:37
  Like
• 12:38
  Speaker 4: I don't believe
• 12:39
Speaker 3: the I have video. These, like, long, gorgeous black tie gowns. All the men are in suits, and I'm, like, in Gucci loafers and trousers.
• 12:48
Speaker 4: Look. I thought you were very apropos with the cars. But here's the I thought it looked great because I saw a picture of it on Instagram that you posted.
• 12:55
Speaker 3: Everybody else, you would have thought I don't care what
• 12:57
Speaker 4: they look. They're ridiculous in Times Square to be wearing long dresses at 02:30 in the afternoon.
• 13:02
Speaker 3: Felt like I staked out, especially when I was Well, that's good baby. Plus one, and then I'm walking around, like I felt like I looked like I worked there.
• 13:10
Speaker 4: Well, maybe they'll give you a job. That would be a good job. Here's the thing, usually we've gone
• 13:16
Speaker 3: to screenings and other events, and we're always overdressed.
• 13:18
Speaker 4: Overdressed. Always overdressed, by the way.
• 13:21
Speaker 3: And they said business casual. Right. I figured, okay, fine. I'll actually dress how
• 13:25
  Speaker 4: it's No. Business
• 13:27
Speaker 3: And I guess I was talking to some people around the room and they were like, it's our first movie premiere. It's a worldwide premiere. There's a carpet. Like, of course, you wear a dress.
• 13:37
Speaker 4: I don't think so. Think you looked adorable. I saw the picture.
• 13:41
Speaker 3: Yeah. It was it's it is hard at a cocktail party kind
• 13:44
Speaker 4: of thing. What happened in Times Square? Were you walking were they all walking around with the tuxedoes and the long dresses? Yes. With the characters on the street?
• 13:52
Speaker 3: No. No. So it
• 13:53
Speaker 4: was in a blocked off section Okay.
• 13:55
Speaker 3: Of Times Square that they took us to. There must have been security, like,
• 13:58
  Speaker 4: each
• 13:58
  Speaker 3: section.
• 13:59
  Speaker 4: And
• 13:59
Speaker 3: then the first bit, like, you took pictures with the cars. Oh. And then the second bit
• 14:03
Speaker 4: I saw that. You look cute with that.
• 14:05
Speaker 3: Thank you. We we put there was kind of a red carpet kind of thing.
• 14:11
Speaker 4: I saw you on that.
• 14:12
Speaker 3: So the real carpet with the with the actors, like Brad Pitt Right. Right. In the film, that was after we were done. So, like, the press wasn't even really out. So it's
• 14:21
Speaker 4: But that's why it was such a long time frame.
• 14:23
  Speaker 3: Yes.
• 14:24
Speaker 4: Because in your schedule, it was like a four hour Exactly. Pre movie thing.
• 14:28
Speaker 3: So after that part of the carpet
• 14:30
  Speaker 4: Oh, right.
• 14:30
Speaker 3: We still had like two hours before that and the screening because it was their red carpet, but they didn't really tell us like where to go.
• 14:36
Speaker 4: So what'd you do for
• 14:38
Speaker 3: I it was a lot of like standing especially when I didn't know people and everyone else like had people. I really was out of my comfort zone and I pushed myself to be like, I'm just gonna go up to people and like try to make some friends. There was one girl I knew who's at a lot of similar events. So I kinda stuck with her. She's great.
• 14:55
And she knew some people. So Okay. I I just approached people but like I was definitely very nervous and like had to remove myself for a second and like go to the bathroom. I I was nervous just putting myself out there like going and talking to random creators there like influencers who didn't and some people were really friendly. Okay.
• 15:17
And then and then some people would like look down at their phones and like not
• 15:20
  Speaker 4: Weren't interested.
• 15:20
Speaker 3: Weren't interested. So I was wondering if you had advice on those situations on like how to involve yourself in a conversation with people you don't know or even walk away from a conversation if you feel like you're not being included.
• 15:35
Speaker 4: I I think it's a very hard thing to do. I mean, this is is a difficult thing. If you don't absolutely know anybody at at at a function, you almost have to force yourself. Go up. Make say something about the movie, or are you excited about going to see the movie?
• 15:51
And if they don't pick up on it, you know what? You've just it's an afternoon or an evening out of your life. There's nothing you could do. There's very little. You can't you can't make up your whole life story of one of these things.
• 16:01
So it is a tough thing to put yourself into. I don't really love that. It wouldn't be my favorite day. I'm glad I didn't go.
• 16:10
Speaker 3: I know, but I feel like you're better at
• 16:12
Speaker 4: No, I'm not better at that. Really? I'm really not better at it. You don't get nervous. No.
• 16:16
I don't get nervous because I really don't care, but but it makes you feel awkward. Right. Plus the fact you're just standing there. So what
• 16:24
Speaker 3: do you do to your like, what do you do when you feel awkward? What do you say to yourself in those moments? Or do you just leave?
• 16:29
Speaker 4: I just walk away. Yeah. I don't say anything to myself. I'm not gonna get carried away with it. I just either see, if I had to wait around three hours for the movie, I think I would've gone home and come back.
• 16:39
Yeah. I don't think I would've stood there for all those hours. I mean, who cares? You're watching everybody take take one photo on a red carpet, and then you're doing nothing till 08:30 at night.
• 16:49
Speaker 3: When you're talking to someone, like, what's up? And and they come up to you and you don't necessarily wanna be in that conversation. Even it's like a guy at a bar. Like, obviously, you can be nice to someone for five minutes. Like, it's very important to be empathetic, especially today with so much shit.
• 17:04
But when what do you do when you're like, the conversation's kind of done and you wanna walk away?
• 17:08
Speaker 4: I think you probably have to walk away.
• 17:10
Speaker 3: What do you say?
• 17:11
Speaker 4: Say it was nice. No.
• 17:13
Speaker 3: I say, okay. Was nice meeting
• 17:14
Speaker 4: you. Nice meeting you and and good luck in whatever your future entails. I mean, what are you gonna say? Yeah.
• 17:20
Speaker 3: Fair. Okay. Let's move on to the AskGramAnything. Our followers wrote in some questions on Instagram. So let's see what they said.
• 17:35
What's the best sneaker to walk around Europe?
• 17:38
Speaker 4: Something with a lot of cushions because don't forget European cities, depending on where you go, especially the southern ones, really are all cobblestones, know, and the streets are not level, so you should really get something with a cushion because you'll be very uncomfortable in a flat sneaker, completely flat.
• 17:57
Speaker 3: And Or, like, chunky, I mean.
• 17:59
Speaker 4: Yeah. Wear something that you've gotta know that gives you a little bit of a cushion and very comfortable.
• 18:05
Speaker 3: I've been obsessed with, like, Brooks running. These sneakers are so cushiony. I'm always on a cushiony sneaker hunt.
• 18:12
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 18:12
Speaker 3: Like, I want the most cushiony.
• 18:13
Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, I think it's important.
• 18:16
Speaker 3: I like New Balance. I like I feel like the Adidas ones are too flat. Alright. So I like a chunk ier.
• 18:23
Speaker 4: Maybe you wear those at night with the with the with the dress.
• 18:27
Speaker 3: Or like the oh my god. What's the brand? Let me look it up. Like, something tiger. Osika tiger.
• 18:33
What is it? On on its tsuka tiger.
• 18:37
  Speaker 4: Oh, really?
• 18:38
Speaker 3: I just ordered these. I don't know. They look like this.
• 18:41
Speaker 4: Oh, those are cute. Yeah. Did you get them in yellow?
• 18:43
Speaker 3: I should have. Yeah. I know. I just got, like, white.
• 18:46
Speaker 4: Oh, gosh. You're getting so boring.
• 18:48
  Speaker 3: I know.
• 18:49
Speaker 4: And you have a yellow bag that I you should've gotten the yellow.
• 18:53
Speaker 3: They're not like I'm gonna order the yellow.
• 18:55
Speaker 4: Okay. Get the yellow. Well, first try on the white and make sure they're comfy. And if they're good, get the yellow.
• 18:59
Speaker 3: Okay. Besides your work with Kim, what are you looking forward to achieving this summer?
• 19:07
Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know what I'm of what I'm just looking forward to having a good summer. I'm really not looking forward to very much. I just like to have all the kids around and and have a good time, and we have nice barbecues in the backyard or, you know, go to people's houses. So just to have chill out. It's it's a time to sort of, throw away all your worries and get in the pool or go in the water and and just chill out and relax.
• 19:34
Speaker 3: What do you think of the saying honesty over harmony? I've never heard that saying.
• 19:39
Speaker 4: I never heard of it, but I actually always believe that honesty is the best policy. So, you must be truthful. And sometimes even though saying the thing might cause a little dissension amongst who's listening, you should be honest to yourself and say what you really think.
• 19:57
Speaker 3: Do you have a favorite piece of art that you own?
• 20:02
Speaker 4: Not really. I'm not really into art. I don't really care. I like the pictures of art.
• 20:05
Speaker 3: Do is go to museums.
• 20:07
Speaker 4: I know. Because I love art, but they're not in my house. Yeah. I love it. I love all the beautiful art, the masters.
• 20:13
I like to look at my children's pictures. Have them in all beautiful frames and I look at them all the time, but now we don't as a matter of fact, I was just gonna go to the drugstore and have some of the pictures from this spring developed. Because I really I I sometimes I don't like looking it up.
• 20:30
Speaker 3: Oh, I thought you were gonna say taking the old photos and digitizing them to have them on your phone. Dancing in heels is painful. The classiest shoe for tired feet, change to nice sneakers or bare feet. Please don't wear bare feet at an event.
• 20:45
Speaker 4: Then you have to have a good pedicure.
• 20:46
Speaker 3: Or, like, I like I just got these not strappy sandals, but they're almost like flip flop sandals with the heels really low. But they look
• 20:56
Speaker 4: I don't think you can dance in those, though. She's looking for something to dance. Just put a pair of flats
• 21:01
Speaker 3: How aggressive are you dancing? You always say, like, how do I hurt myself when I'm dancing and stuff? Because I'm always
• 21:08
Speaker 4: like, my jumping. The the way the kids are the kids today jump. We didn't jump. We had actual dances. You either did a waltz or a cha cha or a merengue or something that was a traditional dance.
• 21:21
So jumping up and down is ridiculous. That's a dance today. I don't quite get that.
• 21:26
Speaker 3: Okay. Last one. Should I keep hooking up with my child's father? We're broken up now for three years.
• 21:31
Speaker 4: No. What's the point? I mean, you know what? This is a lesson we keep talking about it and we've been talking about it for four years. When things are over, it's over.
• 21:41
Now you do have a child, so that's a different dimension. And if you think there's a possibility of getting back, but just to have sex in the evening or after he drops off the child on his visitation, I don't think that's a wise move.
• 21:58
Speaker 3: There's more uncomplicated ways you can be involved with. That said, I get she probably has an emotional Absolutely.
• 22:04
Speaker 4: And she should either figure out what that is and at some point either go forward with it or you must cut it off.
• 22:12
Speaker 3: Because you're gonna look back and be like, that's three years I could have been taken out of over them.
• 22:17
Speaker 4: Correct. Wasted time. And I also think it gives false hope to a child if they see the parents hooking up or not hooking up, people see that, but if they see them together, then they think, oh, my parents are gonna get back. If that's not the possibility and it's purely a physical thing, I think it should be over.
• 22:37
  Speaker 3: It's a complicated one.
• 22:38
Speaker 4: Yeah. It is complicated, hon.
• 22:40
Speaker 3: Okay. Let's move on to the grandma report. So the article this week, it's actually some stats from YouGov. So it's the differences in romantic experiences between older and younger Americans. So here are the common ones.
• 23:00
So been married, 20% under 30, 90 percent 65 and up. Been engaged, 22% under 30, 80 seven percent 65 and up. Been divorced, two percent under 30, fifty percent 65 and up.
• 23:18
Speaker 4: So what are they trying to prove in this in this in these numbers?
• 23:22
Speaker 3: The the differences or the commonalities of age groups when it comes to relationships. So far, those are pretty different.
• 23:32
Speaker 4: Well Stats. Well, the longer you stay alive, the more time you have to get divorced. Yeah. I mean, when you're 25, you're not getting divorced. You're not even probably married.
• 23:44
So I think it's a hard demographic to figure out that way.
• 23:50
Speaker 3: Oh, oh, yeah. So these are the things that older Americans have done more of. Been married, been engaged, been divorced, had sex, been on a blind date. What's more common among younger Americans are use an online dating app or site. Okay.
• 24:05
Been in a love triangle. Oh. 13% young under 30, 22 percent 65 and up.
• 24:14
  Speaker 4: Yeah. Because it's a changing society. It's a changing mores.
• 24:19
Speaker 3: Been in a friends with benefits relationship. Right. Pretty close stats though.
• 24:23
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 24:24
Speaker 3: Had a crush on someone that wasn't reciprocated.
• 24:27
  Speaker 4: Well, that's
• 24:27
Speaker 3: Kind of equal actually Exactly. Of generation. Exactly.
• 24:31
Speaker 4: Lots of similarities. That's kinda it. Okay. I mean, the report doesn't give you anything that would be earth shaking because the longer you live, the more complications come in. The younger you are, basically, those things don't arrive yet.
• 24:49
So I wouldn't take any of these surveys to heart. What it is is the norm and most people want to be in a relationship and stay with a relationship. I don't care if it's young or it's old, it's just when the younger people decide to make that commitment, it's somehow the dates have been moving towards closer to your late twenties, early thirties where, so there's less time to, in comparison to older Americans who got into a relationship, let's say, when they were 19, 20, and 21. So they have more time to make mistakes. Yeah.
• 25:26
It's just it's just what you're doing at that particular time in your life and the mores of that time.
• 25:34
Speaker 3: Okay. Let's do the drama club. So grandma and I went to a Tribeca screening during the film festival for this new Barbara Walters doc that's coming out June 23.
• 25:51
Speaker 4: Is coming out on Netflix?
• 25:54
  Speaker 3: Hulu.
• 25:55
  Speaker 4: Oh, Hulu. Okay.
• 25:57
Speaker 3: It's coming out on Hulu June 23, and it's Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything. And I thought it was really interesting. There was a lot of conversations about, like, how journalism has changed throughout the years.
• 26:09
Speaker 4: And she was the pioneer. I mean, she was the pioneer of bringing women in as serious Yeah. Anchors. Yeah. I mean, up until then, it was all frivolous, you know, the weather lady or the cooking cha chapters.
• 26:22
Speaker 3: Do you remember watching and, like, seeing that shift?
• 26:27
Speaker 4: Oh, absolutely. I do. Because I was always a news. You know I'm a news freak. Yeah.
• 26:31
So I watch the news all the time. Barbara Walters brought something to the TV that was not there before. You all had always had men looking out on the 07:00 news, and that was just what we expected. And what changed it was she was very, very bright, she was very good at her craft, and she somehow got herself the interviews that created the buzz and the channels real the network realized it and started giving her larger and larger spots. And she was very much resented by the the anchors, the the male anchors
• 27:08
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 27:09
Speaker 4: The doc saw in the film.
• 27:10
Speaker 3: Portrayed her as pushy because you had to work I think she might have said it. I don't remember who said it, but, like, had to work three times harder than people demand it.
• 27:19
Speaker 4: Well, did. She had to. She had to prove herself. And she loved the job. What really came out in the documentary, I thought that was the most significant, is she was terrific and she paved the way for other women, and she was very good about it.
• 27:35
I mean, there were certainly, you know, she guarded her territory very carefully. Nobody was taking over her spot so fast. And when it gradually happened, she was a little resentful. But what I took away from the whole document, it was that, you know, so many young people today think they can do everything. And in this document, it showed she clearly couldn't do everything.
• 27:59
She was wonderful in her craft, but she had a terrible personal side.
• 28:03
Speaker 3: But let me just say, this is an extreme. This is the most successful female journalist in the world. Maybe could not be the best mother ever. Right. But one thing to caveat, a lot of things at play, adopted child, mental health issues
• 28:16
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 28:17
Speaker 3: Etcetera. So but I think most people should know. Most women should know. Like, if you wanna be, like, good at your job, you're not, like, the most famous woman in the world. Right.
• 28:25
You're good at your job and be a good, like, mother and wife. That is possible.
• 28:30
Speaker 4: It's possible. It's just hard. It gets hard to do when you're in a certain way, you know, that she couldn't make the games or she couldn't get to certain school projects. This is something that's, you know, it it happens. We've we've discussed this with other people on the show who are married, who have families, and there is something that is a give and take.
• 28:48
So I thought that what that made it very real on the camera, but she I loved first of I loved her hair. She went from the Well, 60s to the love that because she and she was really smart though. She was really, really smart. You had to admire her. Groundbreaking one was between Begin and- The
• 29:14
Speaker 3: Israeli prime minister and the-
• 29:17
Speaker 4: Anwar Sadat. Thank you, I'm having a brain moment, Anwar Sadat. And I remember that interview. That was really unbelievable. And the two men really loved being interviewed by her, which was fascinating.
• 29:30
Speaker 3: So unique, and we're so used to it now. It's like every interview we see now. But very rarely did you see a world leader or a celebrity being interviewed both about career and personal life.
• 29:40
Speaker 4: Personal life. Correct. That was very that's what she did. She got into the per the, the person's mind and she somehow elicited the things that they wouldn't have told the normal anchor. She was she was terrific and she really did her job and it was a very I loved the doc.
• 29:57
I liked it. I thought it was it was very interesting and entertaining.
• 30:01
Speaker 3: Yeah. The question also, because journalism has changed so much, you don't need the one Barbara Walters interview to get your story told.
• 30:09
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 30:09
Speaker 3: There's so many different journalists. With influencers and social media, one, you have the ability to tell your own story. Just online and do it yourself. Or there's so many people like, you could come on, excuse my grandma, and tell your story.
• 30:21
Speaker 4: Oh, it's very different. It's very different.
• 30:22
Speaker 3: Pastors. Like, I'm wondering if you think it would have been better off, like, with interviewers the way they were then versus how it kinda looks now.
• 30:30
Speaker 4: Well, I can't I don't know if it would be better. I think it was a different time. People try first of all, people trusted who they saw on the camera. Mhmm. You know, it started shifting, however, with when Clinton became president and then the other presidents that followed him, everybody started doubting the media, and the media didn't you know, when Walter Cronkick got on the on the screen, because he was really the most relevant, excluding Barbara Walters, he was the man that everybody watched.
• 31:02
80,000,000 people would tune in and listen to him. If he said something you believed in and he had a bias, but you really very rarely saw it on screen. Now, no matter what channel you turn on, there's a bias. And so the American public has gotten used to that and knows, I wanna hear this, I'll put on this channel, I'll put on that wasn't the way it was in the late sixties or even in the early sixties. So that's changed, and and people will get their news from a podcast or get it from a an you know, from an influencer who's talking about something or from X or from wherever they're getting their news.
• 31:41
  Well, everyone's It's very
• 31:42
Speaker 3: gonna have an opinion. There's like no nonpartisan
• 31:46
Speaker 4: Which is sad, which is really sad because that's what was great, that you didn't really know what they thought. They didn't slant it, so that we really thought maybe they did and we didn't realize, maybe we were too naive, but I don't think we did. I think they genuinely tried to say the news the way they thought the news should was in reality.
• 32:07
Speaker 3: Yeah. But This woman, Emily Sundberg, she's, like, around my age, and she's having a moment right now. And I was reading an article, and she has, a substack. And a lot of people go to her for her opinions. And her the article was like, what's it like to be a journalist essentially today?
• 32:22
And she's like, I don't know if I'm a journalist. Like, I didn't go to journalism school. I don't know why I'm being called a journalist Yeah. Just because I have A platform. A platform and these And
• 32:32
Speaker 4: she's excited it. We could call they could call us.
• 32:34
Speaker 3: Call, like, anybody. Call. Anyone a journalist. Exactly. Anyone not a journalist.
• 32:38
  Exactly. It's kind of just
• 32:39
Speaker 4: It was very different. It was a different time. You can't compare it, but she was great. And I thought the the documentary was was very well put together.
• 32:47
Speaker 3: Agreed. Okay. Let's do the rewind. Quickly, what we are watching on TV. Well, first of all, the Love Island US is back, and it is taking over my whole social media feed.
• 33:05
Everyone is being obsessed. It's not as good as UK in my opinion, but I wanted to get your thoughts on, like, the drama of the last few episodes.
• 33:14
Speaker 4: I have no idea, Kim, because I've never watched it.
• 33:16
Speaker 3: Oh, okay. So, you know, the concept of the show, there's a bunch of young singles on the island, and everybody dates each other. Right. And you couple up, and ideally, you walk out with a relationship.
• 33:26
Speaker 4: Somebody. Here we go again.
• 33:28
Speaker 3: That's the the always how it The theme. So there's this couple, Huda and Jeremiah, and she's actually a mom. She but she's in her early twenties. And they, since day one of the show, kinda were tunnel vision each other and didn't really wanna get to know the new people coming in. And a lot of the other islanders are open minded and, like, will go on dates with multiple people because that's kinda what you do on the show.
• 33:54
Speaker 4: Well, that's what makes it fun.
• 33:56
Speaker 3: Yeah. And they're kind of getting a lot of shit from the viewers. Like, the American public voted them apart this past week because but the question is, like, should you go on this show? Like, the whole point is to find someone. So why are they getting penalized kind of for finding someone?
• 34:12
But it's also kind of annoying because you want them play the game.
• 34:14
Speaker 4: You want they want the drama. The the the But they are The audience wants to wants
• 34:18
Speaker 3: to all the time.
• 34:19
Speaker 4: Oh, really? Alright. I I don't know because I don't watch those kind of programs, and I hope people who are listening to us know this is really not real. Please take it with a grain of salt. Don't put your model your yeah.
• 34:31
But don't model your own lives about these people. It really worries me. The state of affairs of of of relationships should not be based on Love Island. So it it's fun. It's fun to watch.
• 34:44
It's entertaining. Kim loves it. All her friends love it. But it is still a show, guys, so just remember that.
• 34:52
Speaker 3: Do you know what, like, love bombing is? No. No. So it's essentially when you first start seeing someone and you're, like, really doting on them and, like, you're really into them and you're telling them how much. And it kind of, like, gets you in their orbit.
• 35:09
And then a lot of the times when people are like that right off the bat, they it's manipulative in some way.
• 35:15
  Speaker 4: Okay. And then
• 35:15
Speaker 3: they like drop you or Right. Like they have they're controlling, whatever. So the conversation with this is just like if by day one, they're, like, in love and obsessed with each other, like, it's probably coming from a unhealthy place.
• 35:29
Speaker 4: Yeah. Probably is. Or they've been told by the producer, come on, guys. Don't think so. No?
• 35:35
Alright. I don't I don't know. I don't watch any reality, so I have no idea. I'm very busy watching murders, and I wanna give everybody I get it. Who everybody Yep.
• 35:45
Asks me what I'm watching. This week, I'm in Madrid and now they're killing everybody in Madrid. I've gone to every European city. There's one producer. I wish he would get me on his in one of his programs.
• 35:59
This Walter present who must is a big director. Acting lessons after what we do? Well, I could do it anywhere. I just wanna I just wanna see him film. He films in every city in Europe.
• 36:10
Oh. And he but they murder everybody. There's nobody left. There's nobody left in Germany. There's nobody left in France.
• 36:17
There's nobody oh, he's all over the place. Now he's in Madrid. He's in Madrid. And warm up? I no.
• 36:24
I'm having fun. I love it. I love it. And the characters are very cute. Talk about the characters.
• 36:30
Each star each person that plays a part is really adorable, so you fall in love with the characters, usually with the detective.
• 36:38
  Speaker 3: Then.
• 36:39
Speaker 4: So it's fun. Yeah. So I'm on I'm on season two. Okay. So I think there are only two seasons.
• 36:44
Speaker 3: Both watch a lot of TV. Yeah. How many episodes a day do you think you watch?
• 36:48
Speaker 4: Well, no. I was bad the other day. Poppy and I on Yesterday in the Rain, we watched for 05:00 to we watched about five solid hours of this show. That was bad.
• 36:59
  Speaker 3: That's bad.
• 36:59
Speaker 4: We didn't even watch the news, which I normally put on at 07:00. I said, I can't. He's in the middle of finding a kidnapper right now. I can't interrupt. Priorities.
• 37:08
Am. So and we have ordered in ribs. We sat and watched it watched it in the kitchen. We were so, this is really very bad. I usually watch at least three episodes a day.
• 37:19
I usually don't. I usually watch at night when I come back from dinner, I'll watch one or two. Yeah. Because I don't really watch regular TV, so I like I like these stories.
• 37:32
Speaker 3: One more thing on reality TV.
• 37:33
  Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
• 37:34
Speaker 3: You know the show Traitors? No. Oh, okay. Well, it's in its third or fourth season. You know Alan Cumming?
• 37:41
Speaker 4: Yes. I love it.
• 37:42
Speaker 3: He hosts it. Oh. And it's in a castle.
• 37:45
Speaker 4: I'm in the cabaret, friend.
• 37:48
Speaker 3: Yes. Well, he didn't sing that song. He was the emcee Yeah. In Cabaret. The best.
• 37:54
So he and he's so he the outfits
• 37:57
Speaker 4: I know. He's so fab show. He's fabulous.
• 37:59
Speaker 3: Well, it's in a castle in Scotland. Oh. And he wears these, like it's so good. So it's a bunch of reality stars come to this castle Right. And they play it's basically like Russian roulette.
• 38:12
Like they play there's a traitor among the crowd and everyone has to guess kind
• 38:18
  Speaker 4: of Who's traitor?
• 38:20
Speaker 3: So they just announced the cast. For the coming season. For the coming season. So we have Lisa Rinna. Oh, wow.
• 38:27
Oh. We have Donna Kelsey, Travis Kelsey's mom.
• 38:32
Speaker 4: Right. Oh, fun. Major. Know who she is.
• 38:34
Speaker 3: That's hilarious. Dorinda Mel Medley, who's a Real Housewife. Colton Underwood from The Bachelor, Rob Rausch from Love Island, Moore Higgins from Love Island. You see, they
• 38:45
Speaker 4: make a fortune from
• 38:46
Speaker 3: these Every show, it's gonna have a fan somewhere.
• 38:50
Speaker 4: Exact very smart. Very smart.
• 38:52
Speaker 3: A few others, like a comedian, Dancing with the Stars person, a RuPaul, like, contestant. Okay. Who would you put on that show? You. I don't know.
• 39:04
But you know what? Like, obviously, it'd be amazing opportunity and, like, they're not asking me. I don't think I would do it because it's basically like survivor, like fearful.
• 39:13
  Speaker 4: Oh. Oh. Oh.
• 39:14
Speaker 3: So it's like they'll, like, throw, like, bugs on you.
• 39:16
  Speaker 4: Oh, I see.
• 39:17
Speaker 3: Or they'll be like, it's really, like, grueling physical challenges. Like, I'm not doing that.
• 39:22
Speaker 4: No. But I don't call me.
• 39:25
Speaker 3: Go with Alan Cumming and, like, wear the outfit and, like, be his little assistant.
• 39:29
Speaker 4: Exactly. We'll do the bat you'll do the stage hand thing. Yeah.
• 39:33
Speaker 3: Yeah. So, I mean, people are, like, mixed on the cast of this one, but I think it's a I think it's stacked.
• 39:39
Speaker 4: I think it should get it has different things for everyone to watch.
• 39:43

Own the dream. Homemade breakfast. I was thinking about this with, like, Father's Day, like breakfast in bed. I feel like we don't see that.
• 40:25
Speaker 4: I never had breakfast in bed. I don't think Poppy ever did that. Maybe if I was sick, maybe if I was sick, he brought me breakfast in bed when I was pregnant, and then I didn't really even want the breakfast. I don't know. I don't feel like I need it, but I could understand where it is a treat.
• 40:43
Actually like to get up and make my own breakfast. We sit together and have breakfast, but I do like to get up and make my own coffee the way I like and make my own toast the way I like it. But I think it's very nice, and I would definitely bring it back.
• 40:57
Speaker 3: I eat my breakfast in my bed
• 41:00
  Speaker 4: Oh, I never
• 41:00
Speaker 3: eat of my bed. Time, but I don't I've not been made by somebody else.
• 41:05
  Speaker 4: It's a breakfast in bed. Okay. Well, alright. That's or you're I
• 41:09
  Speaker 3: would try it.
• 41:10
Speaker 4: It's very romantic. Yeah. Maybe they'll share toast or something.
• 41:14
Speaker 3: Right. Socks and sandals together?
• 41:19
  Speaker 4: Oh, I think that's Was
• 41:20
  Speaker 3: that ever in?
• 41:22
  Speaker 4: Yeah. For nerds.
• 41:26
Speaker 3: So let's not bring that.
• 41:27
Speaker 4: No. I don't like that look. It's ugly.
• 41:29
Speaker 3: Yeah. We just said talked about this, but physical photo albums.
• 41:34
Speaker 4: Well, I like that. Yeah. I mean, I still like that.
• 41:37
  Speaker 3: Mhmm.
• 41:38
Speaker 4: But that, you know, in today's world, I don't know if you get a picture, so you'd have to go to the go to someplace where they're gonna it's a lot of work.
• 41:46
Speaker 3: But it's kind of a cute gift, like a scrapbook of photos or photo of, like, for a one year anniversary or, like, a parent.
• 41:54
Speaker 4: Or baby shower or something that you wanna really remember and hand down. Yeah. Yeah. It's nice.
