Latest / Most Things Kenobi - A Star Wars Podcast / S2 E6: Reviewing "Skeleton Crew" Episodes 1 & 2 (SPOILERS)
Transcript
- 0:00Hello there. It's most things Kenobi where we
- 0:04always have the high ground. Hey everyone, Leanne here.
- 0:21Before we get started with the episode, I just wanted to make a
- 0:24quick note for this episode. Lauren was on location, we'll
- 0:28say, and was in a hotel room where she decided to record with
- 0:33me while she was away. Thank you Lauren, but we
- 0:36realized in post production that the fan that she was sitting
- 0:39next to the air system made a pretty prominent background hum
- 0:44throughout this entire episode, so please forgive us.
- 0:48We didn't realize until post production again that there was
- 0:51the fan noise, so we weren't able to edit it out completely,
- 0:55but we did do our best to try and minimize it.
- 0:58And thank you again for being patient with us.
- 1:00Enjoy the episode. Hi everyone, welcome to another
- 1:04episode of Most Things Kenobi, a podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and
- 1:07all things Star Wars. I'm your host, Lauren.
- 1:11And I'm your host, Leanne, and. This week we are going to talk
- 1:16about Skeleton Crew, the new Star Wars show.
- 1:22We sure are. And I have to tell you, Leanne,
- 1:25I think we're going to have opposite opinions.
- 1:28Are you kidding? No.
- 1:31Are you kidding? Are you?
- 1:33Are you kidding? Though I'm not kidding.
- 1:35No, I'm not kidding. Wow.
- 1:38OK, this will be, this will be good because you you got a
- 1:41preview of what I thought. Yeah, I don't have a preview of
- 1:44what you thought, so this should be interesting.
- 1:46OK. Yeah, all.
- 1:48Right. We're very really on opposite
- 1:50sides of. Well, we're we're, we're giving
- 1:53the listeners something brand new.
- 1:55I think in the Kenobi Series A few times you and I had
- 1:58different opinions, but yeah. So we've watched episodes one
- 2:03and two. Let's let's tell the the the
- 2:06family out there. We have watched episode 1 and 2.
- 2:09If you have not, stop right now. This will be full of spoilers.
- 2:13Yes, yeah. This is your final warning.
- 2:17Turn back now turn back. Now, OK, let's go.
- 2:22OK, initial thoughts. It was way better production
- 2:28quality than most of the other stuff they've put out.
- 2:31I will give it that. I will give it that.
- 2:34Yeah, it was beautifully shot and very well edited.
- 2:38Way better editing and cinematography than Mandalorian.
- 2:42I'm sorry, hate me if you want to, but.
- 2:44No, no, no, no. Even better than like Ahsoka,
- 2:47you can tell when they film on the volume and when they don't.
- 2:50It is drastically different. So that right away stood out to
- 2:55me. It was very visionary, you know,
- 2:58I could see what they were shooting for.
- 2:59Yes, yeah, They had an obvious idea in mind what they were
- 3:04going for and I think they executed it.
- 3:05Obviously, in my opinion, it seems like Spielberg esque mid
- 3:11century planet Earth. We'll say yeah, cozy, rural,
- 3:17something or other, you know, feel.
- 3:21Yes. Totally got the Spielberg sense.
- 3:25Yes. Of it all, yeah.
- 3:27That is precisely why I hated it.
- 3:32You cannot copy Spielberg without coming across like a tin
- 3:39can version of Spielberg. And I hated it.
- 3:44It was not original. Don't RIP off Spielberg.
- 3:47It's Spielberg for a reason. I don't have to say that, but
- 3:51they accomplished what they were going for 'cause they were very
- 3:54purposefully going for that. Yes, it did have a sense that it
- 3:59was like an homage to that. And I have a really unpopular
- 4:06take. I don't like Spielberg movies,
- 4:10which is like a sin when you come from.
- 4:13But there's different eras. There's different eras.
- 4:15Are you talking like there's a specific era or just in general,
- 4:18'cause I don't, I didn't know that about you.
- 4:20OK. All right, fair.
- 4:21I love Indiana Jones, I love Back to the Future, but he
- 4:25produced that he didn't direct that, correct?
- 4:29I I like, I like Jurassic Park. It's fun.
- 4:33Isn't that a Spielberg? The original 1?
- 4:35If he didn't direct it, he'd produce it again.
- 4:37I'm gonna have to like this because I don't.
- 4:40So this show feels a lot to me like The Goonies.
- 4:45Yes. Yes, but I hate The Goonies.
- 4:48I hate it. I can't bear it.
- 4:51Well, the. Goonies, I felt like.
- 4:53This was. Way more fun and palatable and
- 4:56less annoying to me than the Goonies because it was like, it
- 5:00was like Spielberg but done really well.
- 5:02And I know that's like such. No one is going to agree with
- 5:05me. And there's a few people I know
- 5:07on the planet who agree with me, and we never speak of it in
- 5:11public because it's really unpopular to say that you don't
- 5:15like Spielberg movies. But I like this better than The
- 5:19Goonies. OK, don't get mad.
- 5:21Totally fair, totally fair. Just just for the record,
- 5:24Jurassic Park, the first one was directed by Spielberg.
- 5:27Just. OK, yeah, that's what I thought.
- 5:29I had Michael Crichton in my mind because I actually read
- 5:32Jurassic Park before it came out and I was in 4th grade at the
- 5:35time. I was a far advanced reader.
- 5:39Holy crap. For my for my time.
- 5:41So Michael Crichton is the first thing that pops into my brain
- 5:44when I think Jurassic Park. Anyway.
- 5:46Yeah, I feel like. So Goonies, Yeah, you mentioned
- 5:52Goonies. Yeah, Goonies and ET, it has
- 5:56that feel to it. I know you hate ET.
- 5:58Everyone knows my stance. I have a personal, I have a
- 6:02personal odd personal thing with ET.
- 6:05So we'll just that will shelve that.
- 6:08Breeze Past that, it's an. Outlier, yes, yeah.
- 6:12So like all, a lot of his movies are incredibly progressive with
- 6:18action. They changed the way Action's
- 6:21filmed, but it's like literally the last Indiana Jones movie was
- 6:25one car chased down a narrow St. after another.
- 6:29It was like 15 in a row and there wasn't as much plot.
- 6:34And I feel like this has the plot, the feel, the like the
- 6:40intrigue that Spielberg like it's Spielberg aesthetic.
- 6:46I think the story so far has me more interested in general.
- 6:51Maybe because it's a Star Wars movie or show, so yeah.
- 6:56Of course, yeah. I think it's there's a lot less
- 7:00screaming than is in like The Goonies.
- 7:03That's, I feel like that's a product of the 80s.
- 7:06I feel like a lot of screaming took place in 80s movies. 80s
- 7:10even if it's even trickling into the 90s but like an odd amount
- 7:18of screaming in the movies. But that's what Goonies is
- 7:22actually known for. It's become a meme of the
- 7:24Goonies. Yes, it's true.
- 7:26Now I'm a Sean Astin lover and that's like little baby Sean
- 7:29Astin, so I can't hate on him but.
- 7:31God, I forgot he's in that. He's a young, tiny thing.
- 7:36He's a baby. There's a lot of young people
- 7:41like isn't now this has become an episode about The Goonies.
- 7:45I figured you and I would have the same like nostalgic feel to
- 7:49this 'cause that's obviously what they were going for.
- 7:51So I mean. Yes, yeah.
- 7:54I didn't know you didn't like The Goonies.
- 7:56I like the Goonies, but it had it's from a time and a place it
- 7:59is. That's where it.
- 8:01Is and I grew up watching Stand by me instead of the Goonies, so
- 8:06like I I prefer Stand by Me, which is the other movie that
- 8:10the God. What is that actor's name?
- 8:12The kid with the glasses. I can't.
- 8:15I don't know. Yeah, he's in both movies, I
- 8:18believe. And so.
- 8:19I can't. I'm not placing.
- 8:20I can't think. I'm terrible with names.
- 8:23Anyways, it's been. It's been a long day, I can't
- 8:26remember anything, so I like how it looks like the Northwest.
- 8:33Oh you got that? Were you annoyed that they
- 8:35didn't immediately say what fucking planet it was?
- 8:37I get so hyper fixated. I'm like what planet is this?
- 8:40What planet is this? Does somebody say what the
- 8:42planet is? Do we know what planet this is?
- 8:44Like what is this? Yeah, well, I think that's all
- 8:47part of the the intrigue, because at first I was like, oh,
- 8:51it's just a New Republic. Like it's part of the New
- 8:53Republic. And then as you go on, you
- 8:56didn't finish Episode 2. Right.
- 8:58We'll, we'll get to that. But did you get to the part
- 9:01where they explained the planet? I heard the name of it.
- 9:05I don't even remember. You don't.
- 9:07I don't even know. Tell me.
- 9:08Remember. OK.
- 9:09Remind me? So the whole thing is that it's
- 9:12a hidden planet of mythology and no one has heard of it.
- 9:16Oh, I did not get to that board. Nope.
- 9:18So the kids are trying to tell people like, where we live,
- 9:22please help us get home. And they're like, that's not a
- 9:24real place. Like that's from storybooks?
- 9:27I didn't get to that point. Treasure Island.
- 9:32Because it is, yes. Because it's a pirate.
- 9:36It's Pirates. And.
- 9:39OK if that tree pirate from the Mandalorian comes back.
- 9:42I'm gonna get real mad. 'Cause I fucking hated that
- 9:45thing 'cause already some of the pirates from that show are in
- 9:49this show and I am like, tread carefully guys, 'cause I, I
- 9:53don't like it, but I I do love Peter Pan and this like when
- 10:02they they take off and they're going to they're now in outer
- 10:06space and the kid, what is his name?
- 10:08I'm I'm really bad with all the the characters names the main.
- 10:11Character the the one who wants to who like initially found the
- 10:14quote Jedi Temple. Whim, right?
- 10:17Whim. On a whim?
- 10:19On a whim? Yeah, exactly.
- 10:24So he's like looking through the captain's, he finds the
- 10:27captain's quarters and it's shaped like a pirate ship
- 10:29window, you know, like the Bay window and obviously the pirate
- 10:33hat and everything. And the droid's name is Smee.
- 10:36I think that's really a fun nod. And if they keep playing into
- 10:41that, I will enjoy it 'cause I love Peter Pan.
- 10:44I see I did not make that connection.
- 10:46Yeah, well did you get to the part where they say the droids
- 10:50name? Yeah, you said SME or SM33 SM.
- 10:5533 yeah. And I, I also said Smee, but I
- 10:57didn't make any connection other than like, oh, that's
- 11:01convenient. Well, and I, I love Nick Frost
- 11:10and he voices me I so I, I'm pleased by that.
- 11:15I was pleased by that as well, although I I have reservations
- 11:19about the Droid itself, but I feel like it's enough.
- 11:23I feel like this entire show is a knock off, but I feel like the
- 11:27Droid is a knock off of K2. It's like a more abrasive, less
- 11:32funny, less natural K2 and I I can't quite tell what kind of
- 11:37Droid it is. I at least not initially I was
- 11:41like, is that one of those battle ones that always had the
- 11:43electric like the the the shocking sticks?
- 11:47Yeah, the staff. Is that what it?
- 11:48Is Yeah, Shocking sticks. Who am I?
- 11:52Whatever. You know the Staffs that
- 11:55electrocute people there. Yeah, like with everything else,
- 12:00I'll reserve full of judgment till the end.
- 12:02But I, I see what they're trying to do and so far I like it, but
- 12:10it's walking a line where like if it becomes too corny, I'm
- 12:16really not going to like it. But I, I see why you're saying
- 12:19it's a knock off, because I mean, the whole opening sequence
- 12:23is a complete redo of the opening sequence of A New Hope,
- 12:27right? Correct.
- 12:28Even the way they film, you know, the people holding the
- 12:30blasters. And like janky.
- 12:31Look of determination. 'Cause I thought every costume
- 12:34that walked out of there was terrible.
- 12:36I thought every. Especially that werewolf Like
- 12:39please please be. Free.
- 12:40That's from A New Hope. He's in the cantina well.
- 12:44It needs to stay in A New Hope. That was what I was like at
- 12:50first. I thought it was a rat, the like
- 12:52outline of it. I was like, is that a giant rat
- 12:55with blasters? And it's.
- 12:57Like, oh, it's the. Werewolf from the fucking
- 13:00cantina. So like whim to me.
- 13:03Like Whim is Luke, Fern is Han. Yeah, mixed with a little Leia.
- 13:10Yeah, and then in episode 2 they have a cantina scene, so it's
- 13:17just like there's. I wonder if they're going to
- 13:20follow the pattern of A New Hope, like all the way through.
- 13:23They're basically recreate. It's like the most meta Star
- 13:27Wars ever. It's like Star Wars referencing
- 13:30Star Wars within the Star Wars, but the kids in there aren't
- 13:34sure if it's real or not or like it's, it's like a bit of a mind.
- 13:40Fuck. To try and keep track of it all.
- 13:45I don't know. And if they're, if they're not
- 13:47part of the New Republic, if they're a mythological planet,
- 13:51how do they know all the stories of the Jedi?
- 13:54But, but, but that woman, the Fern's mother, is a part of the
- 13:58New Republic, a representative of some sort.
- 14:01I. Thought but now, now I think she
- 14:04might just be part of their local government.
- 14:08It's like I'm not sure. It will reveal itself with time,
- 14:13I suppose, but. I didn't make it through episode
- 14:182, so I don't know a lot of what beyond the point where they said
- 14:23that they they need to find a space station or some shit.
- 14:28I was like, OK, I'm gonna, I'm done.
- 14:31I hate this show. I absolutely hate every single
- 14:35second of this show. It might be like you are to
- 14:41Mandalorian. This is me to this show is so
- 14:45bad. That's the that that is how I
- 14:51feel about the panda, Laura. And yes, you're right.
- 14:55I hate this show and I will not watch another episode.
- 14:58I'm sorry. I I usually don't have really
- 15:02strong feelings, but there isn't an original concept in this show
- 15:07and I can't get over that. I just can't get over that.
- 15:10I can't do it. I can't do it.
- 15:11I can't stand kids. Like, what's this?
- 15:16Where are we? What is over here?
- 15:20Oh, no, dad. Like I can't.
- 15:23I can't fucking do it. I can't do it.
- 15:27I'm sorry. I'm that person.
- 15:30So we will not be reviewing any more of this show moving
- 15:33forward. I listen, it's going to take an
- 15:36act of God to get me to get through the rest of this.
- 15:39If we, if we commit, if you want to do this for the folks out
- 15:42there, maybe that'll be our question this week.
- 15:45Do you want us to continue reviewing this show?
- 15:49I will do it for the people, but I will not enjoy it.
- 15:55Or maybe I will. Or maybe I will.
- 15:58Maybe. I mean, yeah.
- 16:01I mean, like I said, it remains to be seen.
- 16:04I was. I have a lot of problems with
- 16:06the show. Tell me like, go ahead.
- 16:09Like what else? What was bothering you so much
- 16:12about? It now I'm just going to, I'm
- 16:15just going to preface this with, I try to go into this shit with
- 16:18an open mind, right? Yeah, I had like no
- 16:21expectations. Zero.
- 16:23I had no, we had a, we had a Zoom call recently with our
- 16:27patrons and one of our patrons said, I hope it's like, if it
- 16:31isn't like Stranger Things, then I'm out.
- 16:33I remember her saying that, right?
- 16:35And I was like, oh, is it going to be like, I never read a
- 16:39single review? I don't have, I never had any
- 16:41clue. I didn't know Jude Law was
- 16:42involved. No fucking clue.
- 16:46So maybe that was part of my problem because I was hit right
- 16:51away with a nostalgic youthful. It's just not my material.
- 16:57And I, and I understand it's for a lot of people, they're going
- 17:01to love it for the elements that I that annoy me about it.
- 17:06Yeah. When I hate to sound like I'm
- 17:08not gatekeeping, I'm not anything.
- 17:10But when I think of Star Wars, this is not it.
- 17:13It's like, OK, it's just not for me.
- 17:15Like I'm not going to go on this like giant brigade of like thou
- 17:19shall not like this show. I just understand that it's not
- 17:23really for me it I need something deeper I guess.
- 17:27Yeah. Maybe it's just the point I'm in
- 17:30in my life, like maybe I need to reconnect because I do like the
- 17:34goodies I like. What's the one with all those
- 17:39kids on the boat? What is that?
- 17:42They're on an island. Is it Treasure Island?
- 17:44I like, I have all these ideas of these flickers of these old
- 17:48movies that, that I do like. I, I just think I'm, it's
- 17:51disconnecting it for me because it's Star Wars.
- 17:54If it was, if it was anything other than Star Wars, I might be
- 17:57into it. But I think there's like there's
- 18:04a maturity level that I'm, I'm seeking that I'm not getting in
- 18:07this obviously, because that's not what they're going for.
- 18:11Yeah. I did like the individual
- 18:13characters. I I really do like the kids.
- 18:16I think their acting is good. I think it's believable.
- 18:19I think they're obviously having fun with it and they should.
- 18:24I like where they're setting up these kids.
- 18:26Like we've got the starry eyed dreamer, we've got the hard ass.
- 18:29Like she's straight A, but she wants to be in the, you know,
- 18:32she just wants the wind in her hair.
- 18:33We got the little tech person, we got the bumbling sidekick.
- 18:37We, you know, we've got all the elements of a charming show.
- 18:40It's just not for me. And also, is that supposed to be
- 18:43Max Rebo's offspring or what are we doing here?
- 18:46Is it like not an offspring of Max Rebo like trademark Max
- 18:51Rebo? But is that his breed, his
- 18:54species? Yeah.
- 18:55Good. Question.
- 18:57We're, we're just going, we're just going like for straight
- 18:59elephants or, or are we gonna cause like, you know, Star Wars,
- 19:06the, the aliens are kind of alien.
- 19:09I did have to laugh though. And she?
- 19:12Said like, can't you plug his trunk because the kid was
- 19:16talking too much? And then Neil was like, ha, ha,
- 19:20I don't talk through my trunk. Totally cute.
- 19:24That's adorable. His character stood out to me
- 19:27because he has like that cute family these.
- 19:30Little overalls, so comb over. Are you going to fucking sit
- 19:35here and tell me that a baby elephant's wearing human
- 19:38sneakers? What are we doing?
- 19:42I I know it's me. There was a werewolf with a
- 19:45pistol, so I guess you know our reality.
- 19:48What? Kind of footwear did he have on
- 19:50I just. I don't know.
- 19:53I don't think they showed it. Seems to me that an elephant
- 19:56would not need sneakers, high tops or otherwise.
- 19:59He had high top Jordans on. I mean Chewbacca and they wore a
- 20:05bandolier for God's sakes. He didn't even have shoes.
- 20:08That's all he needed to be as fabulous as he was.
- 20:11And this kids walk around with fucking sneakers on anyway.
- 20:14I just, I just, it's the, IT was like overdone.
- 20:21I feel like the kid missed the bus.
- 20:25The bus wasn't creative enough for me.
- 20:27I'm like, I could catch this thing in downtown Seattle if I
- 20:30wanted to. Like literally it's the same
- 20:32thing as the link, you know, for those who know.
- 20:38And then and then he goes on like a speeder, which is
- 20:40obviously like a bike, right? It's this 80s bananas seat.
- 20:44It even hit like tassels on that.
- 20:46I can't. I can't.
- 20:47It's not. It's too pedestrian.
- 20:53Now, I know we sat here and made fun of the fact that some people
- 20:56sat here and made fun of the fact that there were bolts and
- 20:59bricks in Star Wars. I draw the line.
- 21:01But like, I don't want to go into that terror.
- 21:06I don't want to be that person or that kind of fan.
- 21:10So I'm very disappointed in myself.
- 21:13It's not connected with you. That's OK.
- 21:15Like, I, I think that's going to start happening more and more
- 21:18with Star Wars as they continue to pull different kinds of ideas
- 21:23and stories out. I mean, Jude Law said when they
- 21:26first started talking about this show that it is about kids, but
- 21:30the, the peril is real. Like the danger is real.
- 21:34And I, I see that and I feel like they're getting that
- 21:39balance pretty good. It's they're they're really, I
- 21:45could see in the editing in the opening sequence, the way they
- 21:48were like hacking people with machetes and then they would
- 21:51like cut on that action. So they were able to like
- 21:54literally hack people with machetes without showing it.
- 21:57But you get the idea. Granted, I mean, like, I don't
- 22:01care about pirates. Like, yeah, Firefly is all about
- 22:07space pirates. That's what I'm going to watch
- 22:09if I want to watch space pirates, right?
- 22:12It's way scarier in Firefly with the Reavers.
- 22:16I do wonder if I need to revisit this at a different time when my
- 22:19brain like you know how you listen to a song, you don't like
- 22:22it, you listen to it again in a totally different state of mind
- 22:25and it sounds totally different. That may be the case with me in
- 22:28this show. Remember, I didn't, I did.
- 22:30I wasn't feeling the 1st 2 episodes of Andor, but that's
- 22:33because I. You hated them and you actually
- 22:36you hated the 1st 2 episodes of Acolyte.
- 22:42Oh acolyte shit do I hate every 1st 2 episodes.
- 22:46Do you remember? You were like, you were like, I
- 22:49hate this and I was like Leanne, just get like, if you can get
- 22:52past like get past this point, you probably will like it.
- 22:55You're like, all right, I'll calm down.
- 22:57You actually texted that to. Me, I don't even remember.
- 23:01Oh my God, I'm a repeat offender.
- 23:04Listen, here's what I'll do. Here's my promise to you and the
- 23:10the everybody who's listening. I will rewatch episode 2 and get
- 23:16myself ready for episode 3 and then we can try again.
- 23:19OK, OK. I think you're right though that
- 23:23it's Treasure Island. Is it Treasure Island?
- 23:25Jude Law. Is kind of is he gonna be like
- 23:27Long John Silver right 'cause isn't he like?
- 23:30Maybe that? Is 'cause I haven't, I haven't
- 23:32read the book so forgive me, but isn't Long John Silver like, not
- 23:36completely trustworthy like a kind of like a?
- 23:39None of them are right cuz. They're fucking pirates, right?
- 23:44Well, Johnny Depp, he's the most trustworthy pirate I'm.
- 23:50Just kidding, that doesn't say much does.
- 23:53It it's just cuz he walks like Keith Richards like I would
- 23:57trust him before anyone else just because he walks crazy.
- 24:01Oh my God, it's so good though. It's such a good walk.
- 24:05It, it really is. It's fantastic.
- 24:08I think maybe if you because like I had no expectation and I
- 24:14I also do not particularly love stuff made for kids so I was
- 24:18going into this with a big grain of salt or sand or whatever the
- 24:22fuck. All of the above.
- 24:24Yeah, so. And at first I was like, OK,
- 24:30this is very pedestrian. It's very our world, if it it's
- 24:35like if our world met Star Wars. Yeah, I hate that.
- 24:38And then I, I wasn't loving it at first.
- 24:41And then I kind of realized that like, that kid is all of us,
- 24:46like he's always flipping back to look at stories about the
- 24:49Jedi just like we do. And it's.
- 24:52Like if we think of it more as like a metaverse where because
- 24:58they're actually they are as a planet, isolated out of all the
- 25:02other stories that we're familiar with.
- 25:04So they're almost like a self referential like in the story,
- 25:08but without being in the story. So they're this weird little
- 25:12isolated planet. When you put it like that,
- 25:16that's the depth I'm looking for actually.
- 25:20When I, I think we might get there, you know, I think the
- 25:24show has the potential for more depth.
- 25:27Right now, they're just trying to establish who the characters
- 25:30are, their relationships with each other.
- 25:33And if that isn't connecting with people right away, you
- 25:36might lose them really fast. That's why I, I mean, and I know
- 25:39people hated Andor, but I loved Andor because they like got into
- 25:42the story from the first scene. Like it just that was the story
- 25:48started. We also had some background,
- 25:50though. We we were coming.
- 25:52That's true, Assuming the bulk of the fans who were watching
- 25:55had some understanding of Rogue One.
- 25:58A lot didn't, and that's cool. But.
- 26:02The rotten tomato score for this.
- 26:04I just looked it up real quick. It's as high.
- 26:07I think it's the highest initial 2 episodes aside from Andor.
- 26:13That blows my fucking mind. Really.
- 26:18I don't. I have seen, first of all, no
- 26:22spoilers. It's not like the other show
- 26:24where as soon as an episode's done, the Internet, at least for
- 26:27me, my social media, was not flooded with spoilers.
- 26:29Oh yeah. But what I've seen from people
- 26:31has been completely positive from everybody, which is not
- 26:35common with Star Wars stuff. How interesting.
- 26:38So what is my problem? Well, maybe you just didn't know
- 26:43what to expect because you hadn't, like you hadn't exposed
- 26:47yourself to more detail about the plot.
- 26:49I. Really have a hard time with
- 26:51like foolish kid stuff. Like the foolishness of
- 26:54children. Yeah, it exasperates me.
- 26:58I have to try hard to get into it.
- 27:01Yeah. And it's understandable because
- 27:03it's not our Forte. We we prefer things that are
- 27:07much more layered and and personally like watching people
- 27:14grow. Watching it through children's
- 27:17eyes is hard for me because. Me too, I don't have.
- 27:20Kids. And I mean, I was a kid, but I'm
- 27:26less interested like you are than if it was like an adult
- 27:29that I could relate to. Dare I say it's too happy.
- 27:36I need the pain and the suffering that I've come to
- 27:39expect from. I'm sure it's coming.
- 27:41Someone's parent is going to die or someone's kid is gonna have a
- 27:46hard time. I don't know.
- 27:48This is Star Wars. It can't all be utopia.
- 27:52The thing that's got got me worried about is they live in
- 27:57this utopia. They don't even know how good
- 27:58they have it now. They've gone to a pirate depot
- 28:02basically and told everybody that their secret planet exists
- 28:06'cause they didn't know it was a secret.
- 28:08And now their little bubble of utopia is potentially at risk
- 28:13now. That's the most realistic thing
- 28:15I've heard yet about this show. If that's the case, like if that
- 28:19that's where it's going, where the fuck is Hondo?
- 28:22We need Hondo. If he were to waltz in, I'd be
- 28:28like finally someone who's a mess.
- 28:31I. Know well if we think of the
- 28:35timeline, Hondo exists right now and Luke are out there.
- 28:39That's what I fucking hate about this.
- 28:41There are living legends out there and they're just walking
- 28:44around in their little speeder bikes worrying about missing the
- 28:47bus. There are fucking legends out
- 28:49there. Well, that's why I think this is
- 28:52going to possibly be interesting because the little boy has the,
- 28:57the like this obsession with the Jedi.
- 28:59And I looked at some, I tried to like stop and look at some of
- 29:02his screens. One of them was a Force temple
- 29:05that you see on Mortise. So that was kind of cool.
- 29:09That thing that he flips through, does that not remind
- 29:11you of that old 80s thing that you'd put up to your eyes and
- 29:14click and it had like a paper wheel and.
- 29:18Had one of those. What the hell are those called?
- 29:19Everyone who knows what I'm talking about no is like it told
- 29:23a story. It's not a kaleidoscope, but
- 29:26it's an actoscope. I thought it was something scope
- 29:33but it was because it was. It was 2 viewfinders and you
- 29:37would see the same picture with each eye, but I think they were
- 29:42slightly different perspectives so it would give it a sort of a
- 29:453D look stereoscope. Stereoscope is that.
- 29:53It that's what it's called. Oh, stereoscope.
- 29:56Yeah, well, I mean that there. I'm seeing old timey ones but
- 30:0019th. Yeah, they've been around.
- 30:01They've been around a long time. Yeah.
- 30:03It was how people used to entertain themselves with that
- 30:06because television didn't exist. This.
- 30:08Is what this is exactly what I was thinking.
- 30:10Instead of him putting it up to his eyes, he had it in front of
- 30:13them and he'd click it and 1 scene would go to the next go to
- 30:16the next so. Yeah, 'cause it like rotates
- 30:19them. Yeah, yeah, it was cool.
- 30:20I like that, yeah. Yeah, I thought that was cool.
- 30:23I was trying to look to see if he's like looking at like the
- 30:26Legends of Luke Skywalker or something like that.
- 30:28But I, I. Thought for sure I'd see.
- 30:30I would see. Wait, so that opening scene
- 30:33where the whim and the elephant, did they not say it?
- 30:36Was that not like a Vader and Luke scene?
- 30:39That's what I thought, but it's like, does he not even know
- 30:42about the real Jedi or does he only know about Luke Skywalker?
- 30:46Like that's what I'm excited to see if they're going to start
- 30:49talking about that. The.
- 30:50Thing is, is like, I think that's so cool that like that's
- 30:54the shit that kids in the universe, like in the Galaxy
- 30:57you're talking about, it's fucking amazing.
- 31:00See, that is something I would, I would love to know.
- 31:04I hope it's about Luke because he is the the like legend of
- 31:08that time period. That's their I mean that whole
- 31:11crew, all the ones we know and love, they're the reason why all
- 31:15those people are free. Yeah.
- 31:18Because of the rebels, All of them.
- 31:19Mm. Hmm.
- 31:22Yeah exactly. But it makes me wonder like do
- 31:24these cause there's even a moment where Wim says this is
- 31:28not how the Galaxy was supposed to be because he has a storybook
- 31:31version of it and they're behind like they they keep mentioning a
- 31:36barrier around their planet. Right.
- 31:39That has to be the mystical thing that's keeping them
- 31:42invisible, right? Right, right.
- 31:45So, like, does that mean if they're being protected, it
- 31:49seems, from the truth of the Galaxy, does that mean that they
- 31:52don't really know what happened out there?
- 31:55That, I don't know, it'd be cool if maybe Jude Law's character
- 31:59will teach him right? I'm sure he will, yeah, show
- 32:03take all their innocence away. But there's the little crawl,
- 32:07like it's actually kind of like the Clone Wars little cookie
- 32:11cutter or fortune cookies at the beginning that said after the
- 32:16Empire fell. But like, we know that as the
- 32:18audience, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the
- 32:21characters we're seeing in this story know that.
- 32:24Yeah, I don't know if they're told.
- 32:26I mean, I don't know. Sky's the limit.
- 32:34Yeah, yeah. I, I don't know.
- 32:36I think it has a lot of potential.
- 32:39I I laughed out loud a couple times and I could because I
- 32:43relaxed into the idea that, oh, this is just cute.
- 32:45Like it's cute. I'm, I'm not expecting it to get
- 32:49super deep, but it would be awesome if it did because kids
- 32:52are smart too. So if this is geared towards
- 32:55kids, like they deserve a deep story also.
- 32:58So I'm hopeful. Let me just put it that way.
- 33:02And I I would be interested to watch more.
- 33:04I enjoyed myself, I think, because I didn't have really any
- 33:08expectation of of liking it at all.
- 33:12So I was surprised to find that I did like it better, I guess,
- 33:18than some of the stuff that I watched as a kid 'cause I find
- 33:22the incessant screaming and lack of story very boring even at a
- 33:26young age. So yeah, I'm, I'm excited to see
- 33:32where this goes. I but like I said, I have no
- 33:36expectations still. Fair.
- 33:42If I was a kid I think I would fucking love this though to be
- 33:45sure. No brainer.
- 33:46I would be looking up to those kids.
- 33:48Like, damn, I want to have an yeah.
- 33:49I remember having an adventurous spirit and wanting to just go
- 33:52outside and like, what was the name of the first episode?
- 33:56This could be a great adventure. That was like all I wanted at
- 33:58that age, for real. And it was outside.
- 34:01I didn't want to stay cooped in. My parents let me go outside and
- 34:05play and ride my bike and meet up with my friend down the
- 34:07street. And we'd make up fantasy
- 34:10storylines of like, solving mysteries because our regular
- 34:13life was boring. I get it.
- 34:14I totally get it. I don't know why I'm not
- 34:16connecting with this show. I got to give it another chance
- 34:19I guess. Well, give it another chance,
- 34:22but also. Not.
- 34:24Everything is, yeah, not everything is going to connect
- 34:26with us. And just like you said, like I
- 34:28just don't, I don't connect with Mandalorian.
- 34:32Yeah. I don't care about the extended
- 34:35Mandalorian story that's not connected to like the Jedi part
- 34:39of the story. I got you.
- 34:41I like Mandalorian. I do.
- 34:44I don't know why I don't like this, but that makes for an
- 34:48interesting episode, doesn't it? For you and I.
- 34:53Yeah, I mean, I I think that I understand your complaints 100%.
- 35:00I understand yours for Mandalorian, and I mean, I have
- 35:04you and I kind of felt similarly for a lot of Book of Boba Fett.
- 35:08I mean. Oh, Star Wars.
- 35:13What will we ever do with you or without you, truly?
- 35:20Yeah. All right.
- 35:28Our question for you this week, do you want us to continue on
- 35:33reviewing the Skeleton Crew? Shall we force Leanne to watch
- 35:38some more episodes? Let us know we're going to put a
- 35:43poll up on Instagram and we'll put another one up on Spotify.
- 35:48Otherwise, you can just drop your opinion either on social
- 35:51media, send us an e-mail, whatever you like.
- 35:53Let us know if you want us to keep going.
- 35:57And with that in mind, we're going to leave this as a
- 36:00cliffhanger. Usually we come into this
- 36:04portion of the show and say what our next episode is going to be,
- 36:06but we're going to leave it as a little bit of a cliffhanger so
- 36:09the people can have their voices heard.
- 36:12Do you want me to give this show another try?
- 36:14Yes or no? Let us know and we'll see you
- 36:18back here for the next episode. What will it be?
