- 0:16Speaker 2: Now, some farmers are warning they are close to running
- 0:19Speaker 2: out of diesel because deliveries have slowed down. Importers switched
- 0:22Speaker 2: from monthly to weekly shipments last month to manage supply,
- 0:25Speaker 2: but now some farmers are running dry and having to
- 0:26Speaker 2: fill their tanks up at the petrol station. Carl Dean
- 0:29Speaker 2: is Federated Farmer's Dairy Chair and with us.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Hey, Carl, oh right, so run me through this. How
- 0:35Speaker 3: bad is this as a situation.
- 0:38Speaker 4: I wouldn't say it's terrible. It's more the fact that
- 0:41Speaker 4: we're not hearing it going away. So we're always getting
- 0:45Speaker 4: always seems to be one or two people every day
- 0:48Speaker 4: complaining about the fact that they've been two or three
- 0:51Speaker 4: weeks behind in their fuel delivery.
- 0:53Speaker 3: And what is the explanation for it, because we've got
- 0:56Speaker 3: heaps of diesel in the country.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Yeah, So most of the explanations that are coming through
- 1:01Speaker 4: are that, you know, because of that change in cycle,
- 1:05Speaker 4: and that was a month ago now, so we have
- 1:08Speaker 4: thought that the distributors should have probably got that sort
- 1:12Speaker 4: of by now. Obviously there was some people who have
- 1:15Speaker 4: stockpiled fueled potentially in the I don't know who, but
- 1:20Speaker 4: certain people would have done so. Again, that should have
- 1:23Speaker 4: now filtered through and done its dash. So hopefully it
- 1:27Speaker 4: will resolve itself shortly, but it does seem to be
- 1:31Speaker 4: you know, even if you look on Facebook, there's always
- 1:33Speaker 4: someone saying, oh til three weeks behind, or just been
- 1:36Speaker 4: told it'll still be another two weeks before I get
- 1:38Speaker 4: my petrol or diesel delivery.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Are any other sectors in the country facing the same problem.
- 1:46Speaker 4: It'd be interesting to know. To be honest, A lot
- 1:49Speaker 4: of other sectors probably just use service stations. There would
- 1:52Speaker 4: probably only be the agricultural, fishing and a few other
- 1:56Speaker 4: sectors that actually have bulk tanks on land.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Which are the other sectors that have bulk tanks?
- 2:03Speaker 4: Well, when you think of fishing, you know, the entire
- 2:05Speaker 4: fishing sector, A lot of them will have many service
- 2:10Speaker 4: stations at the port. I guess yeah. I would think
- 2:13Speaker 4: the army or the defense force would most likely have
- 2:16Speaker 4: their own supply.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Any of them experiencing the same.
- 2:23Speaker 4: I would hope not, because a lot of them will
- 2:26Speaker 4: be probably have large volumes to have this sort of
- 2:30Speaker 4: buffal whereas farmers normally will have enough supply for a
- 2:35Speaker 4: month or six weeks and they're fairly reliant on that
- 2:40Speaker 4: monthly or every couple of weeks delivery, depending on the usage.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Right, Carl, Is the market going to sort this out
- 2:46Speaker 3: by itself or does this need some intervention from a
- 2:48Speaker 3: higher power like the government.
- 2:51Speaker 4: I hope that the market sort itself out. I don't
- 2:53Speaker 4: see there's any reason why it shouldn't sort itself out,
- 2:57Speaker 4: but obviously we're just watching it with an eager eye
- 3:00Speaker 4: to make sure that it does.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Yeah, well, here's hoping, Carl. Thanks very much, mate, Good
- 3:04Speaker 3: luck with it. Carl then Federated Farmer's Dairy Chair.
