- 0:08Speaker 1: Here's Bob Nightingale. Let's talk about it, Bob with us
- 0:10Speaker 1: right now. We appreciate the time. Is always good to
- 0:12Speaker 1: see you, Bob. And you kind of nailed it the
- 0:15Speaker 1: other day when you were talking about the possibility of
- 0:17Speaker 1: the Tigers and from Ribaldez and how that would be
- 0:20Speaker 1: a pretty beautiful marriage for a team that really needs
- 0:22Speaker 1: to push their chips in this year.
- 0:23Speaker 2: So can you elaborate?
- 0:24Speaker 1: And I'm guessing you weren't surprised necessarily to see them
- 0:28Speaker 1: land him, were you?
- 0:30Speaker 3: And I still thought you go to Baltimorials. I think
- 0:33Speaker 3: Doyls really need them. But that was a very smart
- 0:35Speaker 3: and the Tiger's part, like okay, and we know they're
- 0:38Speaker 3: not going to, you know, re sign Trek's Scuball and
- 0:40Speaker 3: now they have the race set up and the things
- 0:43Speaker 3: go aside aways this summer. You know it couldn't move them,
- 0:45Speaker 3: but you know things would have to go really bad.
- 0:47Speaker 3: I love them move I just thought I was being
- 0:49Speaker 3: a aggressive and now they got their guy to replace
- 0:53Speaker 3: Cherk's Scuball for you know, next year.
- 0:56Speaker 1: What did you think about the timing, Bob, where you
- 0:59Speaker 1: have the Trek Schoogle case looming by the time many
- 1:02Speaker 1: people watch this will have an answer on the schoopl case.
- 1:05Speaker 1: So the arbitration hearing had already happened, and now the
- 1:10Speaker 1: decision usually comes about twenty four hours later. So did
- 1:13Speaker 1: you think there was anything to that with them signing
- 1:16Speaker 1: from her after the sides already exchanged their arguments, or
- 1:20Speaker 1: it was completely coincidental that finally on February fourth in
- 1:25Speaker 1: the evening, Framberg gets the offer that he wants.
- 1:29Speaker 4: I think it's just a straight coincidence. I really do.
- 1:31Speaker 3: And you know, I think they've been working on this
- 1:33Speaker 3: for a while, very quiet, So okay, we got to
- 1:36Speaker 3: have a got a replace Scooble at some point. So no,
- 1:39Speaker 3: I just think, you know, worse comes to worse. They'rebout
- 1:42Speaker 3: thirteen million dollars, but you know they do have the
- 1:45Speaker 3: race for twenty twenty seven and maybe twenty twenty eight.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Too, So no, I just think as a coincidence, I
- 1:52Speaker 4: really do.
- 1:53Speaker 5: You mentioned the Orioles before is where he thought he
- 1:56Speaker 5: was going to land. Any inclination of if they were
- 1:59Speaker 5: going you know, maybe longer term obviously lower A a V,
- 2:03Speaker 5: or if there was like a level that they were
- 2:05Speaker 5: just like, we're not going over.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I think they were gonna go short term as well.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I mean, they did offer five years for Ranger Swarez. Uh,
- 2:15Speaker 3: but I think in this case teams were kind of
- 2:18Speaker 3: back and off a little bit like, Okay, he's thrown
- 2:20Speaker 3: a lot of innings, but what in her nine innings
- 2:22Speaker 3: the last four years?
- 2:24Speaker 6: Uh?
- 2:24Speaker 3: Do we have some concerns about the arm So I
- 2:27Speaker 3: don't think he was going to get a long term deal.
- 2:29Speaker 7: Uh.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I think everybody you talk to, you we're talking about
- 2:32Speaker 3: short term.
- 2:33Speaker 4: So even though he wanted, you know, the only.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Sea stock contract seven and you know to ten, it
- 2:38Speaker 3: wasn't gonna.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Happen based on you just said Ranger Suarez too. What
- 2:43Speaker 5: do you think is a bigger miss for the Orioles?
- 2:45Speaker 5: The the fact that oh the crime dog McGriff, what's up?
- 2:53Speaker 5: Guess the biggest the biggest smile?
- 2:57Speaker 7: Tell fred? I said, hello, Fred, I owe you man.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I couldn't take care of yet the All Star Game
- 3:06Speaker 4: last year. So once Bob told me he was.
- 3:09Speaker 7: Coming home, like I gotta break in, I got it
- 3:13Speaker 7: because dog man, oh listen, you owe me around to
- 3:17Speaker 7: go forget this. I need to get over to when
- 3:20Speaker 7: I'm in Tampa. I'm gonna need to hit you up
- 3:21Speaker 7: for like om or somewhere nice. So just know that
- 3:24Speaker 7: call is coming.
- 3:25Speaker 6: That's the deal.
- 3:26Speaker 4: I you.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Drop in by Fred McGriff who everybody's listening, everybody's watching obviously,
- 3:35Speaker 5: by the way, yeah yeah, easily the greatest smile on
- 3:39Speaker 5: the game. But anyway, my question was My question was
- 3:42Speaker 5: who do the Orioles miss on bigger not signing Ranger
- 3:46Speaker 5: or not signing Framber, Because in my opinion, I think
- 3:49Speaker 5: there is there is a bigger there's a bigger miss
- 3:51Speaker 5: based on how I think it would fit into their rotation.
- 3:55Speaker 4: I think bigger miss on Framber, I really do.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I thought he was the best free agent starter on
- 3:59Speaker 3: the uh, you know, even more than a Cease. So
- 4:03Speaker 3: you know, I'm stunning it. Get one of those two guys,
- 4:06Speaker 3: and now you got to wonder. I know they've talked
- 4:08Speaker 3: to Zach Gollan. You know, Zach Gowan would make perfect
- 4:11Speaker 3: sense too. He does have a qualifying offer attached to him,
- 4:14Speaker 3: So we'll see if they go that route.
- 4:16Speaker 7: Bob, we talked about it yesterday and tell me that
- 4:20Speaker 7: we were crazy. Where were the Pittsburgh Pirates on this?
- 4:22Speaker 7: Were they close? Because every big free agent we keep hearing, Oh,
- 4:26Speaker 7: they're aggressively pursuing Kyle Schwarber, They're progressively pursuing Trek Schouoble
- 4:33Speaker 7: arbitration wise, they're you know, aggressively pursuing Dylan Sees from
- 4:37Speaker 7: Raveled as Pete Alonso, name every free agent. But they
- 4:41Speaker 7: never get to that point right where they're actually are they.
- 4:43Speaker 7: I mean, they might be in the running, but they've
- 4:45Speaker 7: never gotten to the point where like, hey, we're really
- 4:47Speaker 7: close to getting this guy.
- 4:49Speaker 4: It's almost like together the Tigers went on the radar.
- 4:51Speaker 3: It seems like, you really want a guy, you don't
- 4:53Speaker 3: publicize it.
- 4:54Speaker 4: So I'm with you.
- 4:55Speaker 3: It was like, you know, they want to tell everybody,
- 4:57Speaker 3: hey we tried, we you know, missed out, we got this,
- 5:00Speaker 3: but you know they end.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Up doing anything with it. You're gonna talk to a couple.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Of gms the in other day and they said, how
- 5:05Speaker 3: about the Pirates. I say, you know, the Pirates always
- 5:07Speaker 3: going to you know, talk about it, but they don't
- 5:10Speaker 3: do it.
- 5:10Speaker 4: They don't take that next step.
- 5:12Speaker 3: So I think it was just more of a well,
- 5:14Speaker 3: you know, pr type thing, Bob.
- 5:17Speaker 5: Have the Tigers over extended themselves? Have they just completely
- 5:21Speaker 5: maxed out? Their budget by signing for Amber Valdez.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Well, I think they thought, you know what it It's
- 5:28Speaker 3: almost like to Toronto Blue Jays, you see how much
- 5:31Speaker 3: money you're gonna make.
- 5:32Speaker 4: I think he's gonna boost US season ticket sales.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I think now the fans are excited, like, Okay, you know,
- 5:37Speaker 3: we make a lot of noise for the last couple
- 5:39Speaker 3: of years. You know, why not us? Why why can't
- 5:41Speaker 3: we get to the World Series? And I think it's
- 5:43Speaker 3: smart too, like, Okay, you got scoop up for one
- 5:45Speaker 3: more year, let's take advantage of them right now.
- 5:49Speaker 7: Bob by the way, I always want to say this
- 5:51Speaker 7: for all the people on Twitter saying, oh, the Tigers
- 5:54Speaker 7: are not cheap, They're not cheap.
- 5:55Speaker 6: You're right.
- 5:56Speaker 7: The Tigers actually was scooball and now with Fromber bringing
- 5:59Speaker 7: back labor, bringing in Kelly Jensen. If scoobl wins, I
- 6:02Speaker 7: think they'll have a top ten payroll. So good job
- 6:04Speaker 7: on them. But it just maybe the question is is
- 6:07Speaker 7: no one's ever called the Tigers cheap. We're just wanting
- 6:09Speaker 7: them to go out and spend because they have this
- 6:11Speaker 7: window with Schoobl Now with Fromer there, it might extend that.
- 6:14Speaker 7: But they also lose flairty and there's some other things
- 6:16Speaker 7: that can happen. So I think that the Tigers deserve
- 6:18Speaker 7: a ton of credit for going out and doing this,
- 6:20Speaker 7: Like you said, so, I just want to make sure
- 6:22Speaker 7: that you that you can reiterate the fact that the
- 6:25Speaker 7: Tigers aren't cheap. They just struck maybe later than I
- 6:28Speaker 7: think most people wanted them to.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Yeah, they think at the.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Big pr campaign out event by signing him Earley for
- 6:34Speaker 3: more season ticket sales, they're not cheap. I mean, when
- 6:37Speaker 3: Mike Elitch was the owner, he was spending as much
- 6:39Speaker 3: money as anybody.
- 6:41Speaker 4: I mean, he had massive payrolls.
- 6:42Speaker 3: You know, I'm giving them McGill could bury that money
- 6:44Speaker 3: bringing them PUDs in the likes obviously you had a
- 6:48Speaker 3: star set of rotation. They should have won a roll
- 6:51Speaker 3: Series or two. I mean, that team is that good,
- 6:53Speaker 3: but they were never achieved. It's just that when Mike
- 6:55Speaker 3: Elitz passed away and then the family hasn't spent as
- 6:59Speaker 3: much as Mike did.
- 7:01Speaker 7: Hey, Bob, by the way, are the Tigers runing baseball?
- 7:03Speaker 7: Because their disparity now between the Al Central and the
- 7:07Speaker 7: Detroit Tigers is so big. Like the Dodgers, everyone says, Oh,
- 7:10Speaker 7: the Dodgers are running baseball. So the Tigers ruining the
- 7:12Speaker 7: AL Central.
- 7:14Speaker 4: That's the thing. That's all GM's always talked about.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Man, I wish I was in the AL Central, or
- 7:18Speaker 3: I wish I was in NL Central because nobody's spending money.
- 7:20Speaker 4: You're absolutely right, that's the easiest division to bounce back from.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I think even with the.
- 7:25Speaker 3: White Sox, people say, well, white Socks have ways to go,
- 7:28Speaker 3: but hey, you're in the AL Central.
- 7:30Speaker 4: You can turn around a lot quicker.
- 7:32Speaker 6: The what ifs are always happening.
- 7:34Speaker 5: Last year, what if they had gotten Bregman, you know,
- 7:36Speaker 5: would they have beaten the Mariners and gone onto the
- 7:39Speaker 5: World Series? What if the what if the Tigers had
- 7:44Speaker 5: gotten Bregman, would this Valdez thing not have happened and
- 7:48Speaker 5: possibly shortened their window because Scoop will be gone and
- 7:51Speaker 5: then you'd be out of a number one.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Well, I think they had Bregman, then you still have,
- 7:56Speaker 3: you know, the prospects that are ready to play, So
- 7:59Speaker 3: they could have easily turned around and trade for Freddie Peralta.
- 8:02Speaker 3: So I think they still would have done this. I
- 8:04Speaker 3: don't think Bragman would have handicapped him by any means,
- 8:07Speaker 3: and who knows, maybe Bragman would have assist on the
- 8:09Speaker 3: same type of contract where he could have opted out.
- 8:12Speaker 3: I think they would have just turned around and say,
- 8:14Speaker 3: you know what, we'll go trade for a starter because
- 8:16Speaker 3: now we have more trade chips.
- 8:19Speaker 7: Hey, Bob, you mentioned him earlier, Zach Allen. Where the
- 8:22Speaker 7: heck is he going to sign? We haven't heard really
- 8:24Speaker 7: anything about Zach Allen other than oh, the Diamondbacks are
- 8:27Speaker 7: now a possibility because of the you know, the pick
- 8:31Speaker 7: that's associated with him and all that stuff. Have we
- 8:34Speaker 7: heard anything? Do we have anything like formal on Zach?
- 8:38Speaker 7: I mean, I thought, I hate to bring this up
- 8:39Speaker 7: all but you said he was signing with the Cubs
- 8:41Speaker 7: months ago, which was I know was a mistake, but
- 8:43Speaker 7: I thought it was funny because it got Cubs fans
- 8:45Speaker 7: hopes up and then it broke their hearts. So thank
- 8:47Speaker 7: you for that. But is there any news on Zach Allen?
- 8:52Speaker 4: The three tams to keep hearing are Baltimore Oils.
- 8:55Speaker 3: And this is before the news yesterday. Still the Cubs,
- 8:59Speaker 3: I've talked to him, and then Diamondbacks. I think the
- 9:01Speaker 3: Diamondbacks keep saying they'd have to be creative like we'll
- 9:04Speaker 3: bring them back. But then you know, if he leaves
- 9:06Speaker 3: again as a free agent, you don't get a you know,
- 9:09Speaker 3: a draft pick out of it. So I think they'd
- 9:11Speaker 3: wanted more than one year just to make it worth
- 9:14Speaker 3: for a while. I really believe that all the guys
- 9:16Speaker 3: had the quothying offers.
- 9:18Speaker 4: The clothing offers hurt Zach Gallon the most.
- 9:21Speaker 6: Is there a.
- 9:21Speaker 5: World where teams are looking at Chris Bassett as more
- 9:25Speaker 5: valuable than Zach Gallen because of that qualifying offer?
- 9:30Speaker 3: Yeah, and in some respects for sure, like Atlanta for instance,
- 9:33Speaker 3: if they had sign a guy with the qualthying offer
- 9:35Speaker 3: like Gallon, they lose the twenty fourth pick in the draft.
- 9:38Speaker 4: They lose a first round draft pick. They're not gonna
- 9:40Speaker 4: do that.
- 9:41Speaker 3: So to your point, yeah, guys like that Gilio and
- 9:44Speaker 3: in him as well. Uh, you got more more value
- 9:48Speaker 3: just because there's no quafing offer.
- 9:50Speaker 4: So, I mean, people love Bassett.
- 9:52Speaker 3: You got to think that Landa is going to sign
- 9:53Speaker 3: one of these guys.
- 9:57Speaker 6: Jeez.
- 9:58Speaker 7: Well, by the way, the qualifying offer, we have a
- 10:01Speaker 7: CBA coming up. The qualifying offer is going to have
- 10:04Speaker 7: to be discussed. I know they changed it in the
- 10:05Speaker 7: last one. But if it's hurting guys free agency the
- 10:08Speaker 7: way that you just mentioned about Zach Allen and some
- 10:10Speaker 7: other guys in the past, don't you think that's going
- 10:12Speaker 7: to be another thing or gosh, another thing, Bob, that
- 10:16Speaker 7: we're gonna have to talk about. The CPA.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Well, remember it almost went away last time. It was
- 10:22Speaker 3: an exchange for the international draft. If you have the
- 10:25Speaker 3: international draft, I'm gonna do way the qualifying offer that
- 10:28Speaker 3: was debated and debated, and finally, you know, the Union
- 10:31Speaker 3: said no, we went to international draft. So MLB says, Okay,
- 10:34Speaker 3: the qualifying offers sticks. So I think that'll be a
- 10:37Speaker 3: big thing for sure. Let's see, we have an international draft,
- 10:40Speaker 3: but the international draft goes away, so the qualifying offers.
- 10:44Speaker 5: Can you rank the teams that have the most heat
- 10:47Speaker 5: on them right now? With the Red Sox kneeding another
- 10:50Speaker 5: infield bat, with the Pirates always just looking for one
- 10:54Speaker 5: more piece, or you know, even the Orioles talking about
- 10:57Speaker 5: starting pitcher who has the most heat on them to
- 11:00Speaker 5: make the next move or maybe their last move this offseason.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think you nailed it.
- 11:05Speaker 3: I think it is the Red Sox people still waiting
- 11:08Speaker 3: for the infielder that they they don't have had.
- 11:10Speaker 4: It's nice they have the starting pitching.
- 11:12Speaker 3: It's nice to have the lowest DRA but Texas Rangers
- 11:15Speaker 3: had the lowest ERA last year and where that get them?
- 11:18Speaker 3: So you need some found point that lineup. But yeah,
- 11:20Speaker 3: I think the Red Sox easily have the most heat
- 11:23Speaker 3: on them, maybe followed by the Yankees.
- 11:26Speaker 4: I still think people want the Yankees to do more. Uh.
- 11:29Speaker 3: I know the Philly I know the Phillies fans are upset.
- 11:31Speaker 3: You know, they want they don't want to run the.
- 11:33Speaker 4: Same team back.
- 11:34Speaker 3: But they always make some change this year, you know,
- 11:36Speaker 3: sometime in spring training or in the trade dead line.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Hey, Bob, let's get into your column that you wrote
- 11:46Speaker 1: in USA today about the new group of managers. Can
- 11:48Speaker 1: you elaborate on some of the background work that you
- 11:52Speaker 1: did with very notable managers in this era of very
- 11:56Speaker 1: notable former managers in their comments.
- 12:00Speaker 3: I mean the way you know, ten new managers and uh,
- 12:03Speaker 3: five of them don't have any experience at all.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Uh.
- 12:06Speaker 3: You know, I'm just making a big thing, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 3: obviously talking about the NFL, when you oh, for ten
- 12:09Speaker 3: no black men, no black coaches, there's no black managers
- 12:12Speaker 3: either that that came in.
- 12:14Speaker 4: So I think your guys, like you.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Know, earning with you know, he's up there names now
- 12:19Speaker 3: there's only a Benji Gill guys who have paid their dues,
- 12:21Speaker 3: you know, like a sticker obviously paid his dues.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Uh, you know we're.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Seeing that and now just your guys are coming up
- 12:29Speaker 3: with absolutely no experience and you know, maybe it could
- 12:32Speaker 3: work because they're not making on their own lineups. Uh,
- 12:35Speaker 3: you know, all the front offices now we're dictating moves.
- 12:38Speaker 4: But it's a shame for the guys, you know, to
- 12:40Speaker 4: spend all this.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Time in the minor leagues thinking you're going to get
- 12:42Speaker 3: a shot and you don't.
- 12:46Speaker 7: Well, well, hold on, Bob, before before we get off this, Uh,
- 12:49Speaker 7: do you spend a few years in the minor leagues?
- 12:51Speaker 7: He spent like three years in the minor league. Isn't
- 12:54Speaker 7: that enough time, Bob to be ready to manage ten
- 12:57Speaker 7: uh huh yeah.
- 12:59Speaker 4: But just at the time, it's like, you know, you see,
- 13:02Speaker 4: you're the mayor leadings or.
- 13:03Speaker 3: You're in the coaching major league coaching staff for years,
- 13:05Speaker 3: and now it's like guys you know, you know, aren't
- 13:07Speaker 3: even on a major league coaching staff and uh coming
- 13:11Speaker 3: up and so you know, I think the one part
- 13:14Speaker 3: is that you're talking Tussi Viker about it is you
- 13:16Speaker 3: know how come teams are so afraid to hire former players.
- 13:19Speaker 3: These DrrA players are make the best coaches, and you
- 13:23Speaker 3: know you're not getting that same instruction.
- 13:24Speaker 4: I mean, look at all the.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Years we see, you know, look at the base running
- 13:27Speaker 3: blunders we see.
- 13:28Speaker 4: You know, night after night, so a lot of these. Uh,
- 13:31Speaker 4: it's almost like.
- 13:31Speaker 3: You have two strikes against you. If you play the game,
- 13:34Speaker 3: you have experience, you know you're you're.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Roll for two.
- 13:37Speaker 7: Well, well you know why bove right threats you know why.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Huh threats or it can't control or what.
- 13:46Speaker 7: Yeah, I would say it's because the players might fight
- 13:49Speaker 7: back a little bit on some of this stuff, right
- 13:50Speaker 7: if you can. And I don't mean this against Listen,
- 13:52Speaker 7: I made a joke about peterra and I didn't mean it.
- 13:55Speaker 7: I'm sure he's going to be a wonderful manager. We've
- 13:57Speaker 7: talked to him. He was great to talk to you, right,
- 13:59Speaker 7: But yes, a lot of the former players make the argument.
- 14:03Speaker 7: And that's why remember the Phillies brought in maddingly because
- 14:06Speaker 7: one of the things was players saying we don't have
- 14:09Speaker 7: anybody that have experienced it. Well, if you don't have
- 14:11Speaker 7: people that have experienced being in the box, being on
- 14:14Speaker 7: that mound in the World Series or in playoff, in
- 14:16Speaker 7: big situations, it's hard for somebody to communicate that. And
- 14:19Speaker 7: I think a former player as a former player, and
- 14:21Speaker 7: I don't know this, but they pushed back a little
- 14:24Speaker 7: bit on that and say, oh, who, you've never played,
- 14:27Speaker 7: you don't understand what it's like. Whereas if you hire
- 14:29Speaker 7: somebody that hasn't been there and doesn't understand it, Oh, yes,
- 14:32Speaker 7: whatever you want me to do, Yes, sir, Yes, sir,
- 14:34Speaker 7: yes sir, And listen, I'm not saying it's right or wrong.
- 14:37Speaker 7: I'm just thinking, in my opinion, that's kind of what's happening.
- 14:41Speaker 4: I agree.
- 14:41Speaker 3: I mean, I think that's what hurt Albert Polhols interviewing
- 14:44Speaker 3: for the Angels, interviewing for the podres. I think a
- 14:47Speaker 3: sense of the interviews, there's gonna have some pushback here,
- 14:49Speaker 3: you know.
- 14:50Speaker 4: I can control Albert.
- 14:51Speaker 3: I thought Albert would have been a perfect choice for
- 14:54Speaker 3: either spot, you know, Tory Hunter an interview with the
- 14:57Speaker 3: Angels and the Twins.
- 14:58Speaker 7: Same thing.
- 15:00Speaker 3: I think the game's got away from that, and you know,
- 15:03Speaker 3: I think the game suffers from it. I think it'll
- 15:05Speaker 3: be interesting this year with so many new guys and
- 15:07Speaker 3: let's see if the experience hurts them or not.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's about a third of the league, so it's gonna.
- 15:15Speaker 7: Be for as long as they don't pull that, As
- 15:16Speaker 7: long as they don't pull the Gabe Kapler and Ozzie
- 15:18Speaker 7: Gean where they walk out to the mountain and raise
- 15:20Speaker 7: their left hand when they really want the right handed guy.
- 15:22Speaker 7: I remember when both those guys did death that one time.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Yeah, get you know, calling the wrong guy up, and
- 15:28Speaker 3: I think I have a lot of screwts in the
- 15:29Speaker 3: Antonio Botello Uh you know, I mean, you know, unfortunately
- 15:33Speaker 3: for him or a lot of enemies and a lot
- 15:35Speaker 3: of managers are saying win a minute now. This guy
- 15:37Speaker 3: has never managed before in his life and professionally never.
- 15:41Speaker 4: Been to coaching staff.
- 15:42Speaker 3: He's making three and a half million dollars a year.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Uh that's about double more than any was ever gotten
- 15:48Speaker 3: as a first year manager.
- 15:49Speaker 4: There's only a handful of guys making three and a half.
- 15:52Speaker 3: So I think a lot of people are gonna say, Okay,
- 15:55Speaker 3: let's let's beat the Giants. We're almost mad at him
- 15:58Speaker 3: just because how much is getting.
- 15:59Speaker 6: Paid and his fault.
- 16:01Speaker 4: I like that, his fault.
- 16:04Speaker 6: No good agent right there.
- 16:06Speaker 4: He's making three point two I think at Tennessee. So
- 16:09Speaker 4: he pretty much.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Said I'm not going I'm not taking a pay cut.
- 16:12Speaker 4: And then Giants said, okay, you got it.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And also, I mean, MLB, come on, if you want
- 16:17Speaker 1: the best talent, if you think there's a manager that's
- 16:20Speaker 1: in college ball and should be in the majors, you
- 16:23Speaker 1: should be able to bring him in.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Like the pay gap is ridiculous money Yeah, yeah, a.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Few hundred thousand bucks in baseball versus college baseball terms.
- 16:35Speaker 1: It's hilarious. But Bob good In say yet, we'll follow
- 16:38Speaker 1: this storyline. I'm fascinating. We met vy tell A recently
- 16:41Speaker 1: in person. I thought he's very impressive. I think he's
- 16:43Speaker 1: going to do well. Of course, it depends on the roster.
- 16:45Speaker 1: But good catching up with you. Thanks to crime dog
- 16:48Speaker 1: Fred McGriff for saying hello, give him a hug and
- 16:50Speaker 1: a high five for us.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Yeah, he wants to wait to buy. He wants to
- 16:54Speaker 4: wait to buy.
- 16:55Speaker 2: That's a perfect way to end this great job. Say
- 17:00Speaker 2: we've forgotten common sense, dude, you know what I mean?
- 17:04Speaker 6: Common sense? You know.
- 17:08Speaker 7: Hey, grab dog listen. You didn't know you don't know
- 17:11Speaker 7: anything about hitting. You know, you only you didn't even
- 17:13Speaker 7: hit five hundred homers. You know you don't know one
- 17:15Speaker 7: thing about hitting.
- 17:17Speaker 5: Hey, so that's why Hey, they talking about line changle
- 17:20Speaker 5: and everything else.
- 17:21Speaker 7: Man, Hey, hey, common sense right? He finished, Hey, lonchangle
- 17:27Speaker 7: was measured after you make contact, right, not before right.
- 17:31Speaker 4: So now you got all these guys.
- 17:32Speaker 7: I laughed, and the battles in nondecked circle they're like,
- 17:38Speaker 7: I'm like, okay, okay. Helicopter finished.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Perfectly stated Bob, thank you for the Fred McGriff cameo.
- 17:50Speaker 1: This was more than we bargained for.
- 17:51Speaker 3: We'll talk to you soon, okay, All right, back to
- 17:54Speaker 3: watch your case open.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Yes, exactly, enjoy.
- 17:57Speaker 7: It, oh, Bob, stay sober, Bob.
- 18:01Speaker 4: I haven't had a drinking. I'm about to start perfect
- 18:04Speaker 4: and wait. Enjoy your day, Bob, We love it.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Bye. Six hundred and forty nine minor league games for
- 18:19Speaker 2: AJ Is that true? Is that how many you played?
- 18:22Speaker 7: That's a lot, bro, I just gave you the name,
- 18:23Speaker 7: I just gave you the numbers. Dude's a grinder Thank you, Scott,
- 18:28Speaker 7: Thank you bro.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Former grinder, sorry not former former regular scens win total yes, BEDAMGM, futures,
- 18:36Speaker 1: white Sox, I'm leading right to you.
- 18:38Speaker 6: Thanks guys.
- 18:39Speaker 2: All right, so sixty six and a half.
- 18:46Speaker 7: Over over If you can hear me, I'm saying over,
- 18:52Speaker 7: I can hear you.
- 18:53Speaker 6: I'm going over.
- 18:54Speaker 7: I think they win seventy two to seventy five games
- 18:57Speaker 7: this year. Okay, I think they're around ninety losses. Now.
- 19:01Speaker 7: Can everything break right and they get a little bit better, yes,
- 19:04Speaker 7: but I think they're around to seventy win. I think
- 19:06Speaker 7: this is way low. Actually, like the one yesterday was
- 19:08Speaker 7: way high, this one is way low.
- 19:13Speaker 6: Do they have enough pitching?
- 19:15Speaker 5: Do they have enough pitching to make it through one
- 19:17Speaker 5: hundred and sixty two games and win and win seventy?
- 19:21Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 19:22Speaker 7: Yeah, I think they do. They're going to be better.
- 19:24Speaker 7: I think they'll be better than they were last year.
- 19:26Speaker 7: And last year they won how many games? Sixty one?
- 19:29Speaker 4: Sixty one?
- 19:31Speaker 5: Yeah they were, yeah, they got they still had one hundred,
- 19:35Speaker 5: they had one hundred and one losses. I think I
- 19:37Speaker 5: was I was honestly going to take the I was
- 19:40Speaker 5: going to take the under, and I'm not going to
- 19:44Speaker 5: you know, go by anything anything intelligent. But I just
- 19:50Speaker 5: think that where are they going to continue to get
- 19:53Speaker 5: their innings from. That's that's my biggest that's my biggest concern.
- 19:58Speaker 5: Are some of these position player prospects. Yeah, I think
- 20:03Speaker 5: I really like them, you know, I like, I like
- 20:06Speaker 5: to behind a dish and what him and Caro, you
- 20:09Speaker 5: know that combination, what that gives them? I don't, you know,
- 20:13Speaker 5: the position player corps I really like. I like, I
- 20:17Speaker 5: don't really like. I really I like, what is this
- 20:20Speaker 5: rotation and bullpen truly going to look like? And are
- 20:24Speaker 5: the lack of big additions going to come back and
- 20:30Speaker 5: hurt them in July? Where they could start, they could
- 20:33Speaker 5: start a big slide of you know, nine to ten
- 20:36Speaker 5: wins a month, which would which would drop them below
- 20:39Speaker 5: this sixty six.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Number, going under.
- 20:49Speaker 7: You haters, Justin and all the White Sox fans. I
- 20:52Speaker 7: just want you guys to know that these two are haters.
- 20:57Speaker 5: You're such a you're such a politician. It's not even city.
- 21:01Speaker 5: You're a race man, just.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Just a little bit. And hey, the Ale Central.
- 21:09Speaker 1: As a strong Tigers team, solid Cleveland team that can pitch.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Twins.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I don't think they're gonna be terrible, but they certainly
- 21:20Speaker 1: didn't do much and they might sell again fire sale
- 21:23Speaker 1: at the trade deadline.
- 21:24Speaker 2: And the Royals are solid. I think they'll have a
- 21:26Speaker 2: solid year.
- 21:27Speaker 7: I just think the White naturally have to get a
- 21:30Speaker 7: little better than what they were. Another year for Shane Smith,
- 21:32Speaker 7: another year for Davis Martin right, another year for the
- 21:35Speaker 7: bullpen guys. They added Sir Anthony doming Is, Anthony k
- 21:38Speaker 7: Is coming over. Another year for their position players, right, Vargas,
- 21:42Speaker 7: TiO kiro My Draw, Colson Montgomery more Commi's there. If
- 21:48Speaker 7: he hits any, we're close to what he thinks. If
- 21:50Speaker 7: he's thirty homers, that's a huge bat. They got rid
- 21:53Speaker 7: of the question that was Luis Robert. Is he gonna
- 21:55Speaker 7: be able to play? Is he going to get traded?
- 21:58Speaker 7: I just think that you know that progression. I think
- 22:00Speaker 7: they had fifty nine wins last year. I think they
- 22:03Speaker 7: can get ten more. I think sixty. If this number
- 22:05Speaker 7: was sixty nine and a half or seventy, it'd be
- 22:09Speaker 7: a much harder decision.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Beat you to itocrats, just just beat it by like
- 22:14Speaker 2: this much. You were like a hair behind me. But
- 22:18Speaker 2: I agree.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I think they're going to improve wins wise, but they
- 22:21Speaker 1: improved by five wins. They're at sixty four wins, six wins,
- 22:26Speaker 1: sixty five wins, seven wins, sixty six wins. Still the under.
- 22:29Speaker 1: So I'm on a slight under with you. On that, AJ,
- 22:34Speaker 1: I could see them winning load of Mitz.
- 22:35Speaker 7: Hater's gonna what's that Taylor Swift song? Hater's gonna hate,
- 22:38Speaker 7: hate hate.
- 22:40Speaker 1: I like going further back, player is gonna play Hater's
- 22:43Speaker 1: gonna hate.
- 22:44Speaker 2: You can say it with a lot more melody if
- 22:46Speaker 2: you go further back.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Look that up, kids, AJ, at some point in like
- 22:51Speaker 1: thirty minutes are gonna leave us, and then you're not
- 22:53Speaker 1: going to be on with us tomorrow.
- 22:55Speaker 2: So would you like to deliver a famous Super Bowl pick?
- 23:00Speaker 7: Oh?
- 23:01Speaker 6: Huh? All right?
- 23:02Speaker 7: So I put this together and I was looking on
- 23:04Speaker 7: bet MGM. So I'm gonna pull it back up because
- 23:06Speaker 7: I forgot I was supposed to my bad producer lady.
- 23:10Speaker 7: I forgot to throw this in there. Uh, but my
- 23:13Speaker 7: bet slip was but I couldn't find it. So I
- 23:16Speaker 7: got to plus one forty and now it went away.
- 23:18Speaker 7: It was Jackson Smith and Jigmu to score a touchdown.
- 23:23Speaker 7: That's a yes, Seahawks to win. Duh, if you haven't
- 23:26Speaker 7: seen my gear and everything, Seahawks to win. That gets
- 23:29Speaker 7: me to plus one forty. And I'm not even sure
- 23:31Speaker 7: who's singing the anthem, but I'm assuming the number is
- 23:33Speaker 7: two minutes. Always bet over on the anthem because all
- 23:36Speaker 7: these singers love to taste themselves and feel themselves, so
- 23:39Speaker 7: they add a couple of minutes a couple of seconds
- 23:40Speaker 7: to it. So whatever add that one to it. I
- 23:42Speaker 7: don't know what the number is, but throw those things
- 23:44Speaker 7: down and you're gonna win.
- 23:46Speaker 4: Wow.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Okay, I'm going to keep that collection. We'll keep that
- 23:50Speaker 2: in mind.
- 23:51Speaker 7: I was singing national anthem. Charlie Pooth, who is that?
- 23:56Speaker 2: He's a famous pop singer, say if he's country.
- 24:01Speaker 5: The country singers, they go fast. They're like, oh can
- 24:05Speaker 5: you sing?
- 24:06Speaker 7: Even Luke Bryan a couple of years ago, he sang,
- 24:08Speaker 7: and he went over, but he.
- 24:10Speaker 5: Went he added some to it, he started, he added,
- 24:13Speaker 5: he added to it.
- 24:14Speaker 7: I tell you themselves. They start going, M'm tasting nice
- 24:19Speaker 7: because I'm singing the anthem at the super Bowl, so
- 24:22Speaker 7: I'm gonna add like, I mean, Whitney Houston's was great,
- 24:24Speaker 7: but it was like seven minutes long.
- 24:27Speaker 1: On the topic of tasting yourself. Uh, somebody won a
- 24:33Speaker 1: tournament in the past week and actually didn't say anything,
- 24:38Speaker 1: which is insane.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I had to find this and get tipped off. Eric
- 24:43Speaker 2: Kratz won an online poker tournament and didn't tell anyone,
- 24:46Speaker 2: what are you nuts? I guess he did post about
- 24:48Speaker 2: it on Twitter. Yes, betam JM Poker posting the former
- 24:53Speaker 2: MLB pro Eric Kratz is a champion. It was the
- 24:59Speaker 2: two hundred and fifty k PPO event ten thousand, six
- 25:04Speaker 2: hundred and ninety three dollars and a trophy for Bruce Banner.
- 25:10Speaker 2: There he is. That's him in action. That's what you're
- 25:13Speaker 2: playing against. Folks, when you're online and you see Bruce Banner,
- 25:18Speaker 2: you can't run. You can throw emojis at him in
- 25:20Speaker 2: the app. I've done that before. But good for you.
- 25:23Speaker 2: So now you have two of those clear trophies.
- 25:25Speaker 6: Not yet now yet, I haven't got that's the trophy.
- 25:28Speaker 6: So I have another one.
- 25:29Speaker 5: I have another one coming that And this was my
- 25:32Speaker 5: first victory of twenty twenty six. I had three victories
- 25:35Speaker 5: in twenty four and then this one victory. Ben MGM
- 25:39Speaker 5: does a great job. I mean they set it up.
- 25:41Speaker 5: It's very simple. You can do it on your laptop,
- 25:44Speaker 5: you can do it on your phone, and they set
- 25:46Speaker 5: up some tournaments that right now they got the grid
- 25:49Speaker 5: Iron Classic going on. So you win, if you win
- 25:52Speaker 5: the tournament, you get a customized jersey if I win.
- 25:56Speaker 5: If I win, I think it's tonight or tomorrow night, Tonight, tonight,
- 26:01Speaker 5: I'm gonna get mine, says, that says AJ. Not a grinder,
- 26:05Speaker 5: So that's what my jersey will say.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I'm rooting for you. That's a great dedication right there.
- 26:11Speaker 1: All right, let's tell.
- 26:12Speaker 7: Purify six hundred and how many games was it? Six
- 26:14Speaker 7: hundred ninety four games in the minor leagues.
- 26:17Speaker 5: You were in the Ballets of twenty one. You're a
- 26:19Speaker 5: second rounder. You were a baroness it was a third rounder.
- 26:22Speaker 7: And I was in the big leagues. But then I
- 26:23Speaker 7: was also back in Triple A the next year, and
- 26:26Speaker 7: then I was back in Double A the year after that.
- 26:29Speaker 5: Not a grinder. You were making you were making sixty
- 26:32Speaker 5: percent of what you made the year before. So you
- 26:34Speaker 5: were in the bushes, which back which which.
- 26:36Speaker 7: Back then was like one hundred grand was the minimum.
- 26:39Speaker 7: So I was making nothing, okay, So Let's also not
- 26:42Speaker 7: forget that we're talking about like nineteen ninety eight.
- 26:44Speaker 5: Here he was making twenty three thousand dollars and he
- 26:49Speaker 5: was like the taj Mahal compared to everybody else.
- 26:52Speaker 7: But I was the richest dude in the world back then. Yeah,
- 26:58Speaker 7: I thought I was in the world.
- 27:00Speaker 2: He goes to restaurants sometimes for dinner.
- 27:04Speaker 7: I told you all the story, man, when I was
- 27:05Speaker 7: in Triple A. I told you all the story when
- 27:08Speaker 7: I was in Triple A. When you're I ain't gonna
- 27:10Speaker 7: say the guy's name, but he had been around for
- 27:12Speaker 7: a while and we saw him out to eat a
- 27:14Speaker 7: bunch of us, and we were like it like a
- 27:16Speaker 7: Cracker Barrel or apple Bee's, you know, the standard Triple
- 27:19Speaker 7: A food places. And we're like, man, you've been in
- 27:21Speaker 7: the minor leagues a long time, how do you do this.
- 27:24Speaker 7: He goes watch and he was finishing his meal and
- 27:26Speaker 7: he pulled out a hair and he's stuck it in
- 27:28Speaker 7: his food, and he called the waitress, goes, I found
- 27:30Speaker 7: a hair in my food. You know, he had already
- 27:32Speaker 7: eaten it and finished it, and so like, oh, we're
- 27:34Speaker 7: so sorry, we'll cop your meal free meal. He goes,
- 27:38Speaker 7: that's how you survive in triple A.
- 27:39Speaker 6: Kids.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Wow, there's like movies about that.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I mean, that's a catch me if you can kind
- 27:46Speaker 1: of guy a little more simple with his strategy than
- 27:49Speaker 1: the catch me if you can guy, but little scam artist.
- 27:52Speaker 1: But you do what you got to do to get by,
- 27:54Speaker 1: and if it helps you make it, it helps me
- 27:56Speaker 1: make it.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Eight.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Richie Schaeffer was on, and he was a much more
- 27:59Speaker 1: recent prospect who was getting fed garbage after they.
- 28:03Speaker 2: S it's ridiculous that.
- 28:08Speaker 7: We didn't get no geez, we were lucky.
- 28:09Speaker 6: If we got P.
- 28:10Speaker 7: B and J in a in a loaf of bread
- 28:12Speaker 7: for the whole team. That was what our I mean
- 28:15Speaker 7: our that was our spread and maybe a piece of fruit.
- 28:17Speaker 7: If you were really lucky the club spread those five
- 28:20Speaker 7: those five dollars a day or whatever it was you
- 28:22Speaker 7: paid to the clubhouse guy. If he was feeling frisky,
- 28:24Speaker 7: you might actually get something hot, like some chef boy
- 28:26Speaker 7: r D.
- 28:28Speaker 6: The first year. First year, I was go ahead, let's go.
- 28:32Speaker 4: I want to go.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Sorry, we'll take the story later. Yeah, don't say anything.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I want to go to Let me just tell everybody
- 28:38Speaker 1: about Super Bowl. Then we're gonna go breaking news. There's
- 28:41Speaker 1: boost Pack, Big Game boot Pack. We're gonna talk more
