- 0:45Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, twelve
- 0:48Speaker 1: years strong. I'm Jeff Warren. I'm here Jackson. Yes, I'm
- 0:52Speaker 1: here at Jackson with Triple.
- 0:54Speaker 2: X's baby man.
- 0:56Speaker 1: If you're watching on YouTube.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's an old that's an old name. So when
- 1:02Speaker 2: we first started.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Hanging out in like late nineties, old bit, Yes, old bit.
- 1:06Speaker 1: We've got Eric Leonard with us. Man, how you been,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I I don't you weren't feeling all that well last
- 1:12Speaker 1: week we had an abbreviated show last week you were
- 1:15Speaker 1: supposed to jump on it felt bad for you, But well,
- 1:18Speaker 1: feel better I am.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I'm better now. Yeah, I Im sorry.
- 1:23Speaker 1: All the fans, all the tons of fans, the tons
- 1:26Speaker 1: of the mouth there.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I mean, the letters were pouring in the flowers. It
- 1:33Speaker 3: was getting a little crazy. So thank you all all
- 1:37Speaker 3: my fans out there for caring.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yes, good to have you back, buddy, Good to have
- 1:41Speaker 1: you back. And a lens on vacation. We're getting we're
- 1:43Speaker 1: getting text messages from him and our and our group
- 1:46Speaker 1: you know, thread and chat with the with our buddies.
- 1:50Speaker 1: He's sending us sunset videos and sunrise I should say
- 1:54Speaker 1: sunrise videos, ocean videos and stuff. I'm like, what what
- 1:58Speaker 1: We've got a cinematograph for heres who's with his lady
- 2:03Speaker 1: and enjoying life.
- 2:05Speaker 2: The man got married and turned in an old lady.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I do well with those coke bottled glasses.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Just slapping the moon on him and he's he's pretty much there.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Oh god, that that Homer Simpson, that episode where Homer's
- 2:23Speaker 1: were of the moon move.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Well, that would be Lenn's dream because he wouldn't have
- 2:27Speaker 3: to work on disability and we're work from home eventually.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Yes, Oh my gosh, I know I could do a
- 2:33Speaker 1: podcast on that. Speaking of really quick, we actually should
- 2:36Speaker 1: have mentioned this. We have to do it. We've been
- 2:38Speaker 1: talking about it for probably a year. We had you,
- 2:41Speaker 1: Len and I have to do a process, the process. No,
- 2:46Speaker 1: he actually didn't. No, I'm just saying we got to
- 2:48Speaker 1: do it because I've actually mentioned it here on the show,
- 2:50Speaker 1: you know, with some other folks that I've been interviewing
- 2:52Speaker 1: and stuff, and like, we gotta do it. We gotta
- 2:54Speaker 1: get it done because I'm I'm getting real, I'm getting
- 2:59Speaker 1: real shaky as it as the sixer season is upon us,
- 3:01Speaker 1: here we need we need to talk about this, We
- 3:04Speaker 1: need to get some things out here.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Yeah, because I feel like it's gonna be a it
- 3:09Speaker 3: might be a tough season to talk about the whole season,
- 3:12Speaker 3: so maybe we should get the process out of the way.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yes, to go over everything that led up to I
- 3:17Speaker 2: think it's.
- 3:17Speaker 3: A good idea this season because it's just because, like
- 3:20Speaker 3: ten days ago, I hung out with Len and I
- 3:22Speaker 3: said to him, did we got to get all three of.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Us on the show?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yes?
- 3:25Speaker 3: And have a full blown two hour process show. Yes,
- 3:28Speaker 3: because we know once we get going, it's going to
- 3:30Speaker 3: go two hours. And I'm talking like multiple lists, yes,
- 3:33Speaker 3: multiple like worst trade, worst signing, best like that kind
- 3:38Speaker 3: of stuff.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Just all right, you and I have to start creating
- 3:41Speaker 1: the foundation of this format we do because we can't
- 3:43Speaker 1: leave it up to him. Nothing's gonna have or happen.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Okay, it's fun.
- 3:48Speaker 3: I did tell him that. I'm like, I know you
- 3:49Speaker 3: don't really get involved like that, but I'll start to
- 3:51Speaker 3: write it an outline and he's like, thanks, thanks, you
- 3:57Speaker 3: know me too.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Well yeah, god, well, we got a great show coming
- 4:01Speaker 1: this week, folks. Right off the bat, we're gonna get
- 4:03Speaker 1: into a ton of major League Baseball and Phillies talk.
- 4:06Speaker 1: And then we're gonna discuss how ESPN is now acquiring
- 4:10Speaker 1: the NFL Network and some other NFL based media assets,
- 4:14Speaker 1: what this means to ESPN as they remain quote, the
- 4:18Speaker 1: King of Sports. And then from there, we've got a
- 4:20Speaker 1: ton of Eagles talk coming your way. We're gonna get
- 4:23Speaker 1: into the big trade this week. I don't know if
- 4:25Speaker 1: you wanna call it a big trade, but we're gonna
- 4:26Speaker 1: get into the trade with the Eagles and the Raiders.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Eagles got themselves a brand new cornerback. They gave the
- 4:33Speaker 1: a defensive tackle to the Las Vegas Raiders. But then
- 4:36Speaker 1: what we're throwing down on the table, we got a
- 4:38Speaker 1: great discussion and interview with our friend Alexis Chasin from
- 4:41Speaker 1: Bleeding Great Nation dot com. We're gonna dive into some
- 4:44Speaker 1: Eagles storylines that are persisting throughout this training camp. Great
- 4:49Speaker 1: great show coming your way. So let's get into this
- 4:52Speaker 1: Major League Baseball and Phillies portion of the show this week.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Something I wanted to talk about last week, Eric bringing
- 5:01Speaker 1: it around this week here to the show. Arguably the
- 5:04Speaker 1: worst umpire call in Major League Baseball history, definitely this year.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I don't know about major League Baseball history, but it
- 5:12Speaker 1: is now up there. It happened just about a week
- 5:15Speaker 1: and a half ago with umpire Brian Walsh during the game.
- 5:19Speaker 1: He actually ended up making it. I think it was
- 5:20Speaker 1: about nineteen calls that were mistakes, but the one call
- 5:25Speaker 1: that was absolutely horrendous. If you're watching on YouTube right now,
- 5:28Speaker 1: we're gonna be playing this call right in freight there
- 5:31Speaker 1: it is. Wow, strike right down the middle. Strike right
- 5:35Speaker 1: down the middle in a game. This is a game
- 5:38Speaker 1: where the Orioles, Orioles and in Toronto Blue Jays are
- 5:43Speaker 1: playing each other. In slow motion. Wow, right down the middle.
- 5:49Speaker 1: My gosh, er I was watching that. I was actually
- 5:54Speaker 1: watching that on ESPN that night, and people were absolutely
- 5:57Speaker 1: incensed by it, and they should have been. The Oriols
- 6:00Speaker 1: broadcast was so shocked at their their announcers, Kevin Brown
- 6:04Speaker 1: and Ben McDonald. They were just roasting the umpire like throughout,
- 6:08Speaker 1: I mean, for for a decent amount of time. It
- 6:12Speaker 1: really begs the question should there really be robots during
- 6:15Speaker 1: the course of Major League Baseball games? Here? At this point,
- 6:19Speaker 1: this could be arguably the worst year for umpires in
- 6:23Speaker 1: Major League Baseball. It really could. The amount of horrendous calls.
- 6:28Speaker 1: We see it all the time in Phillies games. I
- 6:30Speaker 1: can't remember a time watching the Philadelphia Phillies where I am.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I'm just absolutely baffled by some of the umpiring, especially
- 6:39Speaker 1: behind home plate. So I don't know, man, I think
- 6:42Speaker 1: robots are going to be coming here before you know it. So, oh,
- 6:46Speaker 1: Eric's distracted. Oh what's what's happening here? Oh we've got somebody.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Oh we've got a Oh she's gonna be on YouTube.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Hi sill, he said, high sill, Hi Jeff, Hello, Hey,
- 7:01Speaker 1: welcome channel subscribe. Yes, yes, yes, always good to see
- 7:15Speaker 1: your daughter. Yeah, always good to see her. She's gonna
- 7:19Speaker 1: be going to college soon.
- 7:20Speaker 2: And she's out here in two weeks. Yeah, oh my gosh. Yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 2: I know. All right, get out of here.
- 7:27Speaker 1: To the show, back to the show. So yeah, talking
- 7:34Speaker 1: about this, really, I think robots are going to be
- 7:36Speaker 1: here before we know it. And and and I know
- 7:38Speaker 1: there's a lot of traditionalists out there. There are a
- 7:40Speaker 1: lot of folks like Lenn probably not gonna want robots,
- 7:43Speaker 1: you know, but it's it's gonna be coming, I think,
- 7:47Speaker 1: sooner rather than later. Because baseball is getting more complex
- 7:52Speaker 1: sports in general are getting more complex, and I think
- 7:54Speaker 1: we're gonna need some technology to help us figure it out.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I don't know what are your thoughts here on this.
- 7:59Speaker 3: It's pretty simple technology. Honestly, it's not that quite. It's
- 8:02Speaker 3: not that huge of a leap in my opinion. And
- 8:04Speaker 3: the stupid rectangles on the screen anyway, we can all
- 8:07Speaker 3: see it for ourselves. Why not just make that the
- 8:12Speaker 3: strike zone teller like that? How hard is it?
- 8:15Speaker 2: Seems like an easy one.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna play it again for the YouTube, guys, keep going,
- 8:18Speaker 1: keep going, yeah, yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 2: So it's all there.
- 8:22Speaker 3: It's it's that has been a staple of baseball programming
- 8:25Speaker 3: now for like what three four years? Yeah, pretty much
- 8:28Speaker 3: maybe five. It's it's it's been there. I mean all
- 8:30Speaker 3: the stat cast uh uh, all the stat stuff on
- 8:34Speaker 3: online too, like where they have the pitch like where
- 8:36Speaker 3: the pitch goes and stuff we're landed. All uses is
- 8:39Speaker 3: technology to just start implementing it during the game, because
- 8:44Speaker 3: whether we like it or not, like the things the
- 8:46Speaker 3: baseball has done recently, for all the dumb stuff they've done,
- 8:50Speaker 3: like most recently the uh well that thing in Tennessee.
- 8:54Speaker 3: It was the Reds and Braves are supposed to play
- 8:57Speaker 3: last weekend. Yes, at that huge race track. Yes, apparently
- 9:01Speaker 3: was a scar track, a gigantic disaster, like not even
- 9:06Speaker 3: because of the rain that you can't help that, but
- 9:08Speaker 3: like the outfield seats were up in like where the
- 9:11Speaker 3: NASCAR thing is, and it was there was like.
- 9:12Speaker 2: A whole like fifty sixty feet even behind the fence.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Yes, the crowd like it was horrible, but baseball's made
- 9:21Speaker 3: some good decisions, like the pitch clock has saved the game.
- 9:23Speaker 3: In my opinion, I couldn't watch three hour ten minute
- 9:25Speaker 3: games on a Tuesday night. Absolutely, two hour twenty minute games.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Perfect.
- 9:30Speaker 3: This is the next logical step because this year in particular,
- 9:33Speaker 3: and even last year that it's interesting you say that's
- 9:37Speaker 3: the worst umpiring call because the ones where they call
- 9:41Speaker 3: strikes that are so far out of the zone. Yeah,
- 9:45Speaker 3: those to me are like worse than that one. But
- 9:47Speaker 3: that one was really bad because it was right down center.
- 9:50Speaker 3: But I do want to say this. He played the
- 9:52Speaker 3: video again, just real quick. Yeah, yeah, let's get this
- 9:54Speaker 3: up again real quick.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Yeah, here we go.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Okay, so watch the ball. It's right down the middle, right,
- 9:58Speaker 3: I don't know who's catching. Four is for the for
- 10:02Speaker 3: the oal. It's probably the Rushman kid. But he watch
- 10:06Speaker 3: what he does with the glove here. It comes right
- 10:08Speaker 3: down the middle of the pike and he's still he's
- 10:12Speaker 3: he's set up on the corner of home plate.
- 10:14Speaker 1: But he's taking the gloves over, taking the glove over.
- 10:17Speaker 3: He takes it over and swipes it where the ball
- 10:20Speaker 3: almost winds up at the bottom left the bottom right.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Hand corner of the strike zone box.
- 10:27Speaker 3: If he had just caught it, maybe that just goes
- 10:31Speaker 3: strike that the ball just crossed home plate.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Your glove is there.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Strike the pitch framing, the framing extravaganza. The has happened
- 10:39Speaker 3: to catchers. It's wild, Like every catcher does that now,
- 10:42Speaker 3: a quick swipe to get the ball into the zone.
- 10:44Speaker 3: And those are some of your worst calls that are
- 10:47Speaker 3: non strikes. Sure, this is the first time I've seen
- 10:50Speaker 3: one where the guy, the guy actually framed it out
- 10:54Speaker 3: of the strike.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Zone called a ball.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Yes, Because and I was telling you before the show, like,
- 11:00Speaker 3: you know, my daughter's boyfriend has been a catcher for years.
- 11:03Speaker 3: He's going to college for it this year, and I
- 11:06Speaker 3: was asking him about pitchering because I noticed it last year,
- 11:08Speaker 3: Like it's just so every every catcher does it wildly now.
- 11:12Speaker 3: And he was like at the young younger level, like
- 11:16Speaker 3: that's one of the first things they start showing you. Now,
- 11:18Speaker 3: it's not your stance. It's not like throwing like that
- 11:20Speaker 3: stuff's important, like the big one. Honestly, the pitch training.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Staff just bringing the ball.
- 11:26Speaker 3: And in that one looks like Rushman got his picture
- 11:30Speaker 3: of a ball because he decided to frame the pitch
- 11:33Speaker 3: out of the strike zone. I you think the umpires again,
- 11:36Speaker 3: this is why you need the robot thing, because the umpires,
- 11:39Speaker 3: the umpires are behind the catcher. They're watching the glove, right,
- 11:42Speaker 3: They're trying to watch the ball, but as soon as
- 11:44Speaker 3: it's the glove and I think they make they missed
- 11:47Speaker 3: time these calls sometimes, and that one is a good example.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Robot robotic get be fulled by that right exactly to
- 11:53Speaker 3: look where the ball crossed his plate, right, I.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Mean, probably one of the most egregious definitely the most
- 11:58Speaker 1: egregious um call this year for sure. But as we're
- 12:02Speaker 1: moving along here too, we also wanted to discuss the
- 12:04Speaker 1: fact that there are two former Phillies who are now
- 12:07Speaker 1: in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Just wanted to just
- 12:12Speaker 1: really mention it real quick, the fact that we have
- 12:14Speaker 1: Dick Allen and Billy Wagner. Billy Wagner finally getting in there. Eric,
- 12:18Speaker 1: how many years have we talked about Billy Wagner possibly
- 12:22Speaker 1: getting in? He finally gets in. He was traded to
- 12:24Speaker 1: the Phillies in two thousand and four, saw real limited
- 12:27Speaker 1: opportunities in his first season due to injuries. Kind of
- 12:32Speaker 1: had a pretty nice two thousand and five year, picking
- 12:34Speaker 1: up thirty eight saves with a one point five to
- 12:36Speaker 1: one er. So not too bad in terms of Billy Wagner,
- 12:41Speaker 1: But in terms of the legendary Dick Allen, I mean, wow,
- 12:46Speaker 1: what a career he had. He was signed by the
- 12:48Speaker 1: Phillies in nineteen sixty spent time in the minors before
- 12:51Speaker 1: making his major league debut in nineteen sixty three. So yes,
- 12:55Speaker 1: he initially played third base with the team, ended up
- 12:58Speaker 1: racking up forty one errors in nineteen sixty four, but
- 13:03Speaker 1: his hitting really catapulted him to Rookie of the Year
- 13:07Speaker 1: and eventually among one of the greats in Major League
- 13:09Speaker 1: baseball history. He finished his career with a two to
- 13:11Speaker 1: ninety two batting average three hundred and fifty one home runs,
- 13:15Speaker 1: one thy one hundred and nineteen RBIs in fifteen seasons
- 13:20Speaker 1: and had a three seventy eight on base percentage and
- 13:24Speaker 1: a five thirty four slugging percentage. So just a few
- 13:27Speaker 1: stats there. Just wanted to mention this, it's nice to
- 13:30Speaker 1: see some Phillies get into the Hall of Fame here.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Well, okay, so Billy Wagner, Well, I'm gonna be honest,
- 13:37Speaker 3: I don't. I don't I think him as met or
- 13:40Speaker 3: an astro.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I agree, I don't really.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Think him as a Philly.
- 13:43Speaker 3: He was here for two years, and believe me, I
- 13:45Speaker 3: had I had partial season tickets for both those years,
- 13:47Speaker 3: and it was electric when he came in. It was
- 13:49Speaker 3: very exciting because God knows the jose Maces.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Of the world.
- 13:56Speaker 3: The closers the Phillies had for years, the bullpen they
- 13:58Speaker 3: had for years leading up to four War was a
- 14:01Speaker 3: fucking disaster.
- 14:02Speaker 2: I was there for a lot of those games.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Yeah, where you're just sitting there like, oh, we're up
- 14:06Speaker 3: to the thinning, We're gonna lose this game. Yeah, every
- 14:09Speaker 3: time you knew it was coming. But he did have
- 14:13Speaker 3: a lecture two years. But I never thought him was
- 14:14Speaker 3: a Philly to be honest, I think I think his stats,
- 14:17Speaker 3: he's warranted to get in. I'll absolutely speak to Dick
- 14:20Speaker 3: Allen again. My middle name Allen named after this guy,
- 14:24Speaker 3: my dad's favorite baseball player.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Ever.
- 14:27Speaker 3: If you you talk about his rookie year in sixty four,
- 14:30Speaker 3: he played all one hundred.
- 14:30Speaker 2: He played one hundred.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Sixty two games at age twenty two on on arguably
- 14:35Speaker 3: one of the better Phillies teams.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Of all time. They're the Yeah, they're one the flop
- 14:41Speaker 2: of sixty four. I think that they were up like
- 14:44Speaker 2: twenty some games and they finally they wound up losing
- 14:46Speaker 2: the pennant.
- 14:47Speaker 3: But but man, just his stats that year, over two
- 14:51Speaker 3: hundred hits, thirty eight doubles, thirteen triples, thirty home runs.
- 14:54Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 14:56Speaker 3: That doesn't happen anymore. Man, that's just awesome. And he
- 14:58Speaker 3: lovely in strikeouts two. That's That's what I'm talking about. Yeah,
- 15:02Speaker 3: and then but and it wasn't with the Phillies, but
- 15:05Speaker 3: his his his his al MVP season with the White
- 15:09Speaker 3: Sox is seventy two. Mike God, yeah, what a monster.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Well he traded him. Phillies traded him in what's sixty nine?
- 15:16Speaker 1: They brought him back in seventy five when he and
- 15:18Speaker 1: Mike Schmid they had the opportunity to play his teammates.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and probably moved on from him a little early.
- 15:25Speaker 3: They probably shouldn't have traded it.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yeah, probably not.
- 15:28Speaker 3: I mean, he didn't have any he didn't have great
- 15:30Speaker 3: seasons at the end there with him. But man, his
- 15:33Speaker 3: ops twice in his career or four times, like over
- 15:36Speaker 3: over a thousand. Yeah, just incredible career. And he deserved
- 15:40Speaker 3: to be in. And it took a long Was it
- 15:42Speaker 3: the veteran crew that got him in or is it
- 15:45Speaker 3: just like one of those.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I can't remember either, to be honest, you know, but
- 15:51Speaker 1: I mean it's well deserved.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I mean, come on, he should have just been in.
- 15:57Speaker 1: He should have just been in. That's why whole game
- 15:59Speaker 1: freaking writers exactly. They're horrendous, just making it all about
- 16:04Speaker 1: them all the time.
- 16:05Speaker 3: And here's and let's just i'll just talk Frank, here's
- 16:07Speaker 3: what sucks. The guy's dead to enjoy it.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yes, that's why I hate.
- 16:12Speaker 3: This veteran thing for guys that should have been in
- 16:14Speaker 3: the first place, because like it's always the guy's son
- 16:17Speaker 3: crying be here it's like, yeah, well we all do,
- 16:22Speaker 3: yes exactly. Asshole writers just can't like, did you see
- 16:26Speaker 3: each your ros?
- 16:27Speaker 2: Except the speech?
- 16:28Speaker 3: He was amazing, Yes, and he even I think he
- 16:30Speaker 3: even referenced that one writer who was like, oh I
- 16:33Speaker 3: didn't deserve to be in Are you serious?
- 16:34Speaker 1: Yeah? Exactly.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I love that.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I love that guy.
- 16:37Speaker 2: But yeah, that whole Hall of Fame situation is a joke.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, all right. Well, moving on with some Phillies
- 16:43Speaker 1: talk here. We've got some listener feedback that we wanted
- 16:46Speaker 1: to dive into. We've got Ryan r. He shot us
- 16:51Speaker 1: off an email in response to some topics we've been
- 16:53Speaker 1: getting into with the Phillies in terms of the trade
- 16:56Speaker 1: deadline and even the farm system. Here, Ryan says, hey, guys,
- 16:59Speaker 1: been listening to the show since twenty seventeen and love
- 17:02Speaker 1: the way it's grown. For me living in upstate New York,
- 17:04Speaker 1: it's a great distraction from sports radio up here. I
- 17:09Speaker 1: wanted to talk about the recent trade deadline and how
- 17:11Speaker 1: it seems that the Phillies may not have gone all
- 17:14Speaker 1: in as maybe the Padres did. As disappointing as it
- 17:18Speaker 1: may seem, and as much as as much as as
- 17:21Speaker 1: much hate as Dave Dombrowski gets at times on social media.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I want everybody to remember that before he got here,
- 17:28Speaker 1: the Phillies missed the playoffs for ten seasons. Ryan, thank
- 17:32Speaker 1: you for that. Thank you, thank you for that reminder.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Dave Dombrowski has changed this franchise into a better run
- 17:38Speaker 1: organization with actual prospects worth being excited about. I'm old
- 17:43Speaker 1: enough to remember the nineteen eighty World Series, which I
- 17:45Speaker 1: was eight at the time, which makes me also remember
- 17:49Speaker 1: the long years of mediocrity between postseason appearances. Yes, winning
- 17:53Speaker 1: a World Series is great, but we don't I'm sorry. Yes,
- 17:57Speaker 1: winning World Series is great, but don't we also want
- 17:59Speaker 1: to franchise that has a chance every year. Not trading
- 18:03Speaker 1: Painter and Miller may have kept the Phillies from getting
- 18:07Speaker 1: Stephen Kwan or Mason Miller, but at least now we
- 18:09Speaker 1: have guys in our minor league system to get excited about,
- 18:12Speaker 1: which to me points to an organization that is now
- 18:15Speaker 1: on a winning track for years to come, as opposed
- 18:17Speaker 1: to having a core that wins ages, that wins ages
- 18:21Speaker 1: out and no one to replace them again. Love the
- 18:24Speaker 1: show and love the theme music too, Ryan, Thanks so much, buddy,
- 18:27Speaker 1: Really appreciate you taking the time to email us, folks.
- 18:31Speaker 1: If you want to email us Philadelphia Sports Table at
- 18:34Speaker 1: gmail dot com, we'd love to read your email here
- 18:36Speaker 1: on the show and respond to it like we did
- 18:37Speaker 1: with Ryan's email there. So that being said, you know
- 18:41Speaker 1: what we were talking about this recently, Eric, the fact
- 18:44Speaker 1: that you know, we didn't want them to trade some
- 18:46Speaker 1: of the top prospects they did get rid of. Look,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I think I think Mick Abel could be, you know,
- 18:51Speaker 1: that fourth fifth pitcher in a rotation. At some point.
- 18:55Speaker 1: We saw some good stuff from him. We saw a
- 18:57Speaker 1: lot of hiccups from him as well. I don't know
- 19:00Speaker 1: if he's gonna be a number one or number two.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I think it's highly doubtful. But I'm glad what the
- 19:05Speaker 1: Phillies did at the trade deadline, and I'm glad that
- 19:07Speaker 1: Painter and Miller are still in the pipe line here.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I'm glad there's still those top prospects that the Phillies have.
- 19:14Speaker 1: And he's absolutely right. Ryan is absolutely right about Dave Dombrowski.
- 19:18Speaker 1: And I cannot stand when a certain sector of Phillies'
- 19:22Speaker 1: nation craps on Dave Dombrowski, because you know what you're
- 19:25Speaker 1: not going to get it perfect all the time. But
- 19:27Speaker 1: he's taken this franchise, this organization and team and brought
- 19:32Speaker 1: it back to some respectability, respectability, like major respectability. So
- 19:37Speaker 1: I don't know what were your thoughts with Ryan's email.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I thought he was pretty spot on.
- 19:42Speaker 2: No, he's pretty spot on.
- 19:44Speaker 3: First of all, anyone under thirty who criticizes this team
- 19:48Speaker 3: in Dobrowski in any aspect of it can shut the
- 19:51Speaker 3: fuck on.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I remember late nineties.
- 19:56Speaker 1: You were just saying jose Mesa too, you know that? Correct?
- 20:00Speaker 3: How many games did you and I see with Len
- 20:02Speaker 3: at the vet jose Masa blue the fuck now many times?
- 20:08Speaker 3: But like I remember, I remember post wait like three
- 20:12Speaker 3: years afterwards, twelve thirteen fourteen, when they didn't have any
- 20:16Speaker 3: prospects speaking to speaking here to to uh sorry, Ryan's Ryan's.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Email twenty fifteen.
- 20:21Speaker 1: It was horrendous.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Yeah, and and and.
- 20:25Speaker 3: It's but but I have to kind of say, though,
- 20:28Speaker 3: we traded a lot of our prospects away to have
- 20:30Speaker 3: those good teams at the end of the two thousand
- 20:32Speaker 3: and two thousands, but none of those prospects really did anything,
- 20:37Speaker 3: that's true.
- 20:38Speaker 2: It was like it was like a house of cards.
- 20:40Speaker 2: It felt like. But regardless of that, those teams were
- 20:42Speaker 2: horrible to watch.
- 20:43Speaker 3: So for Debrassity to commit and do what he did
- 20:45Speaker 3: to turn this team not just respect world, to actually
- 20:47Speaker 3: make a World Series so far, maybe make another one,
- 20:51Speaker 3: can't hear the criticism completely agree with. I thought mick
- 20:54Speaker 3: Abel should have absolutely been on the table, Yeah, no problem.
- 20:59Speaker 2: And to get Durand for him, and I forget the
- 21:01Speaker 2: other guy they got rid of. Yeah, just I feel like.
- 21:07Speaker 3: It's a steal, honestly, Yeah, because I think mcabele's ceiling
- 21:12Speaker 3: is a three, like a good three. I would about
- 21:16Speaker 3: the other kid, yeah, yeah, yeah, just saying like that
- 21:20Speaker 3: was the right trade to make. They they brought in,
- 21:22Speaker 3: And I don't know, if you're a Twins fan, how
- 21:24Speaker 3: do you even remotely cheer for this team or go
- 21:26Speaker 3: another game after they trade away their entire playoff roster
- 21:30Speaker 3: from last year they actually made the playoffs. But whatever,
- 21:32Speaker 3: I'll take it. The only the only thing I think
- 21:35Speaker 3: Miller is the only guy up in the air where
- 21:37Speaker 3: I'm kind of like, I love Crawford and Painter.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I think those two are untouchable.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Yeah, if you had to move, say Aidan Miller for
- 21:45Speaker 3: the Duran Thing and then Mick Abele for for Kwan
- 21:49Speaker 3: or a better outfield option than Harrison Bader, who I
- 21:52Speaker 3: know he hit out run the other night and he's young, fast,
- 21:56Speaker 3: wrong like, but he's kind of a platoon guy.
- 21:59Speaker 2: That that's the one spot.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Like I'm still afraid at the bottom of our order
- 22:03Speaker 3: going into the playoffs where man as a whole, Like
- 22:08Speaker 3: if you're six through, if you're seven through nine hitters
- 22:10Speaker 3: a bat in like two ten, Yeah, that's just that's
- 22:13Speaker 3: just a free inning for the team, and especially in
- 22:15Speaker 3: the playoffs with the pitching is going to be awesome.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I liked that they got another outfield bat, but if
- 22:21Speaker 3: if they if they had to move on from say Miller,
- 22:25Speaker 3: because I just think Painter and Crawford have more elite
- 22:28Speaker 3: upside potential. Yeah, but you know, the way the way
- 22:33Speaker 3: stop's been playing, maybe you want to keep Aid and
- 22:35Speaker 3: Miller around.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Like, I don't know, but there's no there's no easy
- 22:37Speaker 2: answer here.
- 22:38Speaker 3: That I I completely agree with him, like to not
- 22:40Speaker 3: get rid of like their top prospects. My only thing
- 22:42Speaker 3: would be, like, man, if you could maybe got one
- 22:45Speaker 3: more inch closer with Kwan or someone of that.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Caliber and you had to move Miller. I wouldn't have
- 22:50Speaker 2: been against it.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear you, I hear you. You know, but
- 22:53Speaker 1: you're talking about something I think that you know, it's
- 22:56Speaker 1: a good segue into where this team is at and
- 22:59Speaker 1: where they need to be in the playoffs. And it's
- 23:01Speaker 1: something you know, you and I were texting about, you
- 23:03Speaker 1: know this week, is you know, are the Phillies getting
- 23:06Speaker 1: too hot early? And I think that's a concern. I
- 23:09Speaker 1: think that's something that we need to really talk about
- 23:13Speaker 1: because what Kyle Schwarber is doing right now is astonishing.
- 23:18Speaker 1: You know, if he go if he goes cold in
- 23:20Speaker 1: the playoffs here, you know, which is it's not right
- 23:24Speaker 1: around the corner. But like once postseason starts, if we
- 23:27Speaker 1: got a cold Kyle Schwarber, it's gonna be rough. If
- 23:29Speaker 1: we got a cold Bryce Harper, it's gonna be a
- 23:31Speaker 1: little rough here. You know, there are certain guys that
- 23:34Speaker 1: are just key contributors to this team. And you know
- 23:37Speaker 1: we're talking about is are the Phillies getting too hot
- 23:40Speaker 1: too early here? And I think it's a I think
- 23:43Speaker 1: it's a storyline that's gonna persist here until maybe they
- 23:45Speaker 1: do start going cold. I just hope if there is
- 23:47Speaker 1: a cold streak. It happens just like right before the playoffs,
- 23:49Speaker 1: and I know that's ridiculous. Of course, that's what we want,
- 23:52Speaker 1: you know, that's of course what everybody wants. But I
- 23:55Speaker 1: mean it's a I mean, it's a concern for sure.
- 23:59Speaker 2: I text you that the night. Was it last night?
- 24:01Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 24:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, last night because I just had I looked
- 24:05Speaker 3: at the I was looking at my phone. I noticed
- 24:07Speaker 3: it's April or sorry, August fifth, and I'm like, man,
- 24:10Speaker 3: we're just kicking the shit out of the Oriels.
- 24:12Speaker 2: This is so much fun, Like.
- 24:13Speaker 3: But it's August fifth, yeah, Like, why can't be like
- 24:17Speaker 3: August thirty first and we're doing this, you know what
- 24:19Speaker 3: I mean, like kind of slowly heading into the playoffs.
- 24:21Speaker 3: But that was more so me just being like I
- 24:26Speaker 3: had a little superstitious about the hot team in early
- 24:29Speaker 3: auguste that loses in the first round of the playoffs.
- 24:32Speaker 1: With this team too. We've seen this with this team,
- 24:34Speaker 1: you know, especially last year. They were hot at certain
- 24:37Speaker 1: points of the the year. Come playoff time, man, they
- 24:41Speaker 1: got cold, they just did. We've seen it.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Mhm. I mean the nice thing is uh, oh god,
- 24:49Speaker 2: what's his name?
- 24:50Speaker 1: Is coming back. No, No, that al the closer. Oh
- 24:57Speaker 1: Jose Alvarado.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Yeah, he hadn't played in eighty days. Yeah, forgot his name.
- 25:02Speaker 3: But he's coming back soon. And I know I can't
- 25:05Speaker 3: play in the playoffs, but that's actually might be a
- 25:07Speaker 3: huge help as long as he's been like playing. Yeah,
- 25:10Speaker 3: to have him in Duran and at the back of
- 25:12Speaker 3: our bullpen for the rest of the regular season. Yeah,
- 25:15Speaker 3: I didn't really think of that until I heard he
- 25:17Speaker 3: was back. Because now you got a lefty and a
- 25:19Speaker 3: righty growth are closer, have closer material. Yeah, Like, man,
- 25:23Speaker 3: that's actually a huge upside for this team and the.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Other unknown too. And honestly, like and yes, I'm sounding
- 25:30Speaker 1: optimistic saying this, we don't know what kind of Aaron
- 25:33Speaker 1: Nola we're gonna get because he's coming back soon. And yes,
- 25:36Speaker 1: he absolutely shit the bed earlier this year. It seems
- 25:40Speaker 1: like in even number years or I'm sorry, odd number
- 25:43Speaker 1: of years, even number of years, he performs amazing odd
- 25:46Speaker 1: number of years for some reason, he struggles and has
- 25:49Speaker 1: some challenges for some reason, but he comes back from
- 25:53Speaker 1: this injury and he kind of gets back into form.
- 25:56Speaker 1: That's gonna be good news for this team.
- 25:58Speaker 2: I agree, and I think they.
- 26:00Speaker 3: I think they allowed Nola enough time to truly get healthy,
- 26:03Speaker 3: because that was a pretty long break for the injury
- 26:06Speaker 3: he had. But like we talked about in a show
- 26:08Speaker 3: like that's also one that's nagging and kind of come back,
- 26:10Speaker 3: and so they're playing so well, just let him sit
- 26:13Speaker 3: as long as he has to sit, you know what
- 26:14Speaker 3: I mean. Yeah, a couple side notes, real fast, Kyle
- 26:17Speaker 3: Schwarber forty more. One's nine sixty five ops plus eight
- 26:20Speaker 3: hundred to win NFL or n L m VP right now,
- 26:23Speaker 3: I know tany plus eight hundred folks get on some
- 26:28Speaker 3: FanDuel not spawn a little bit. Yeah, I'm on Fandle
- 26:32Speaker 3: pay up exactly and then okay, so and one once
- 26:37Speaker 3: Nola comes back. I thought about this today. Would you
- 26:40Speaker 3: relegate Walker or Lizardo to middle relief Walker now Lozardo?
- 26:49Speaker 2: I would too.
- 26:50Speaker 3: I think I think i'd keep Walker up, Yeah, and
- 26:52Speaker 3: have if you needed a left handed start, you have
- 26:55Speaker 3: Lazardo there.
- 26:56Speaker 2: I just think Walker has been better than lazarda this year.
- 26:59Speaker 2: It's not even close.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Yeah, Lazardo started out hot, but then yes, you know,
- 27:02Speaker 3: I think I said a show a few weeks ago, it's.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Like I think this is who he is.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Yes, is why he's played with the Marlins for a
- 27:07Speaker 3: little bit and I was with the Philly He's a
- 27:09Speaker 3: mid four or five eer a guy yep that gets
- 27:12Speaker 3: you ten wins and ten losses every year.
- 27:13Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah, absolutely, all right, great Phillies talk here.
- 27:18Speaker 1: We are going to be taking a break. But before that, again,

- 27:57Speaker 1: Eric and I are on threads and also Blue Sky
- 28:00Speaker 1: as well. We're gonna take a break and when we
- 28:02Speaker 1: come back, we're gonna be getting into some Eagles talk.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Stick with us, all right, we are back and we
- 28:09Speaker 1: are gonna be diving into a story that just broke
- 28:13Speaker 1: I think it was basically this morning as we're recording
- 28:15Speaker 1: this on Wednesday night, August sixth, quick discussion here on
- 28:20Speaker 1: ESPN acquiring the NFL Network. Yes, they have acquired the
- 28:25Speaker 1: NFL Network financially and other NFL based media assets. ESPN
- 28:31Speaker 1: certainly remaining the King of sports. But the two sides
- 28:36Speaker 1: have agreed on a multi year extension of ESPN's rights
- 28:39Speaker 1: to broadcast the NFL Draft. As we know, they've been
- 28:43Speaker 1: televising the draft since nineteen eighty and they're gonna be
- 28:46Speaker 1: streaming it on Disney Plus and Hulu for the first
- 28:50Speaker 1: time in two thousand and six. One media conglomerate just
- 28:55Speaker 1: gobbling up another media conglomerate here, Eric had something more
- 29:00Speaker 1: and more of in the world, and uh, I don't know,
- 29:03Speaker 1: I don't know what it's going to lead to at
- 29:05Speaker 1: some point down the road except for a lot of more,
- 29:07Speaker 1: a lot a lot of more, a lot more rich folks,
- 29:11Speaker 1: a lot more rich folks, and uh, probably some more layoffs.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Right because because these these billionaire executives don't really give
- 29:19Speaker 1: a crap about anybody, Well.
- 29:21Speaker 3: They don't make enough more and more right, right, Eventually
- 29:26Speaker 3: we're going to be watching everything on Bezos TV and
- 29:28Speaker 3: that's it. There'll be one channel yep, pipeline right now
- 29:32Speaker 3: our forehead buy things stop yep. I will. I will
- 29:38Speaker 3: turn this into socialist session if you want me to.
- 29:41Speaker 3: I know you will move on. But the you know,
- 29:44Speaker 3: just the common sense in me like, uh, you know ESPN.
- 29:49Speaker 3: I see the headline ESPN acquiring NFL network and NFL
- 29:52Speaker 3: based media assets. Okay, great, and within the articles you know, uh,
- 29:58Speaker 3: the NFL now owns ten percent of you p.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Yeah, And I'm like, it goes off my back of
- 30:06Speaker 3: my head, like that's that doesn't seem right. That sounds
- 30:09Speaker 3: like a little there could be some conflict of interest
- 30:12Speaker 3: thing there in.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Terms of journalism and reporting.
- 30:16Speaker 3: I mean ESPN is supposed to be at heart a
- 30:19Speaker 3: journalism reporting thing and entertainment as well. I watched it
- 30:24Speaker 3: on again. I think the journalism reporting is kind of
- 30:26Speaker 3: got out the window. Yes, yes, I mean Pat McAfee
- 30:31Speaker 3: in a tanked up going bro the Dolphins dude, like wow,
- 30:38Speaker 3: well insights, that's amazing.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Just stephen A just yelling all the time. We can
- 30:43Speaker 1: just do his radio show. He doesn't yell all the
- 30:45Speaker 1: time on his radio show.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Why don't they just put McAfee and stephen A together.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Stephen A screams and McAfee goes, bro stop, that's the
- 30:54Speaker 3: whole show.
- 30:54Speaker 1: That's it.
- 30:55Speaker 2: That should be. That should be the whole show. Yeah.
- 30:59Speaker 3: But like okay, so what if, like what if there's
- 31:02Speaker 3: a disparaging story about like Roger Goodell the ESPN wants
- 31:05Speaker 3: to do yeahcause he has Goodell just go excuse me,
- 31:09Speaker 3: Yeah no, we're not doing that. Click and it's like
- 31:12Speaker 3: that kind of stuff and the sports book stuff.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Yes, Like if you.
- 31:18Speaker 3: I think it's I think it's the it's just the hypocrisy.
- 31:22Speaker 3: It's like if the NFL just come out and say,
- 31:24Speaker 3: like we're cool with gambling, it's totally fine. Yeah, we
- 31:27Speaker 3: don't want our players doing it. They probably do, but
- 31:30Speaker 3: you know, it is what it is, rather than what
- 31:32Speaker 3: we take.
- 31:32Speaker 2: A hard stance on gambling.
- 31:34Speaker 1: And like, come on, you're down at Eagles games and
- 31:37Speaker 1: you see the fand OL stuff on the ribbon going
- 31:40Speaker 1: around the stadium or or draft kings, whichever one I'm forgetting,
- 31:44Speaker 1: but still you see it it's in the stadiums. But
- 31:48Speaker 1: ESPN has its own sports book. It does, yes, and
- 31:51Speaker 1: the NFL now is ten percent of a sports book.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Yes, I've read. I've read some articles. We're like, well,
- 31:56Speaker 3: the sports book's not known, but it's like it's the
- 31:59Speaker 3: ESPN sports book.
- 32:00Speaker 2: I shut the fuck up. I don't care seriously, but yeah,
- 32:04Speaker 2: I just that part of the story. I'm like, that
- 32:06Speaker 2: made me feel icky.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Yeah, like corporate greed, corporate, like we're gonna squash a
- 32:10Speaker 3: story if we don't like it like that.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I don't know, it's like the NFL would do something like.
- 32:15Speaker 1: That, exactly, exactly exactly. Well, getting into some Eagles talk here,
- 32:22Speaker 1: Eagles made a trade Howie Roseman. Of course, you know
- 32:25Speaker 1: we always we've been talking about it is how we
- 32:27Speaker 1: going to make a trade during training camp? Of course,
- 32:29Speaker 1: of course he's going to make a trade during training camp.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Made a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders and got
- 32:35Speaker 1: themselves what seems to be a pretty good cornerback. Is
- 32:40Speaker 1: a guy who is probably gonna make the team. I
- 32:44Speaker 1: would think they acquired cornerback j Coryan Bennett. They sent
- 32:47Speaker 1: Thomas Booker, the fourth to Las Vegas. Just want to
- 32:50Speaker 1: give our thoughts here on this trade. I thought it
- 32:53Speaker 1: was interesting. I was reading some tweets and I was
- 32:56Speaker 1: over on our Bleedinggreen nation dot com where our friend
- 32:58Speaker 1: Alexis Chason who's going to be joining us in a
- 33:01Speaker 1: bit where she does some writing, or good friend Brandon
- 33:03Speaker 1: Lee gout as well. They put up a tweet just
- 33:06Speaker 1: about Jacoryan Bennett's how he ranks among NFL cornerbacks with
- 33:11Speaker 1: four hundred and fifty plus snaps. Check this out, folks.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Eighteen receptions allowed, that's third in the NFL, thirty seven
- 33:18Speaker 1: targets that's tied for tenth in the NFL. Only as allowed,
- 33:23Speaker 1: one hundred and seventy six yards that's second in the NFL.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Zero touchdowns allowed that's tied for first. Nine pass breakups
- 33:30Speaker 1: that is tied for fourth, and a sixty two point
- 33:34Speaker 1: four quarterback rating that is sixth in the NFL. That
- 33:38Speaker 1: is not bad. Look, there's certain contexts with this as well.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Bennett played well last year, but he suffered a knee
- 33:45Speaker 1: ending torn labrum. This year, he lost some ground with
- 33:50Speaker 1: the Raiders cornerback battle. He was basically fourth, and that's
- 33:54Speaker 1: what people are saying, Well, why was he fourth? On
- 33:56Speaker 1: the depth chart behind Eric Stokes, Darien Porter and Hamery
- 34:00Speaker 1: and Richardson Pete Carroll. He prefers longer, taller cornerbacks. And
- 34:06Speaker 1: Howie Roseman though, is seeing the stats. He's seeing the
- 34:09Speaker 1: analytics and said, you know what, let's get this guy
- 34:12Speaker 1: as we aren't one hundred percent sure who that cornerback
- 34:15Speaker 1: two is going to be. After Daris Slay leaves in
- 34:18Speaker 1: the off season, Keey Ringo and a Dori Jackson have
- 34:22Speaker 1: been battling it out for that number two cornerback spot
- 34:25Speaker 1: on this team. Eric, I think that I don't know,
- 34:28Speaker 1: I don't know if Jacory and Bennett is going to
- 34:30Speaker 1: get that number two spot, but it makes the competition
- 34:33Speaker 1: a lot more interesting. It makes camp a little bit
- 34:35Speaker 1: more interesting too.
- 34:36Speaker 3: I think, Yeah, it's just one of those smart moves
- 34:39Speaker 3: by by Howie. Like no, no downside to it, yea,
- 34:44Speaker 3: you know, was where they going to keep six tackles
- 34:47Speaker 3: round the team and keep Booker anyway?
- 34:49Speaker 2: Probably not? And like why not?
- 34:54Speaker 3: He probably recognized that Pete Carroll went to LA I'm sorry,
- 34:57Speaker 3: Las Vegas. And you know, contrary to like him being
- 35:02Speaker 3: like an offensive coach, he's actually a huge defensive coach.
- 35:06Speaker 3: The legion of Boom were all like six two two
- 35:08Speaker 3: twenty at least and up.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and that was the key to their their Super
- 35:11Speaker 2: Bowl team winning team.
- 35:13Speaker 3: So he just prefers tall, stronger, doesn't need not exactly speedy.
- 35:17Speaker 2: And the kid was traded.
- 35:20Speaker 3: In like basically let go because he didn't fit in
- 35:23Speaker 3: with what you know, he was part of the Josh
- 35:25Speaker 3: McDaniels thing.
- 35:25Speaker 2: He wasn't part of peek regime.
- 35:29Speaker 3: And it's Pete Carroll and it's like cool and how
- 35:32Speaker 3: he probably recognized that went and snatched him up. And
- 35:36Speaker 3: the stats speak for themselves. The improvement from his rookie
- 35:38Speaker 3: year to his second year huge. And you can't you
- 35:42Speaker 3: can't downplay going from a football situation.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Like the Raiders right where it's so depressing, it's an
- 35:49Speaker 2: awful place to play.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Yes, I mean, I'm sure Pete Carroll's going to improve
- 35:53Speaker 3: that team big time. They have an actual quarterback this year. Yeah,
- 35:56Speaker 3: he's a he's a legit NFL coach. I'm sure they'll
- 35:58Speaker 3: be much better. But to have to play your first
- 36:00Speaker 3: two years in that dreadful, dread that dreadful arena in
- 36:04Speaker 3: Las Vegas, no quarterback, you have no chance of winning,
- 36:08Speaker 3: and it's like, maybe he'll come here and get under
- 36:10Speaker 3: Vic Fangio's tutelage. He's gonna it's gonna take time to
- 36:14Speaker 3: learn the defense. You know, everyone comes into Fanjia. It
- 36:17Speaker 3: takes time. But it's nice to throw an extra body
- 36:21Speaker 3: in there. And especially he's speedy fitting with Quinnion if
- 36:25Speaker 3: he can make if he you know, makes the team
- 36:27Speaker 3: or even potentially starts, but just to throw in that
- 36:30Speaker 3: mix of competition for and you lose a guy that
- 36:33Speaker 3: wasn't gonna make the team anyway.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Yeah, the Eagles get the better player. Like that's it's
- 36:37Speaker 2: as simple as that.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Absolutely. I can't wait to see what he's gonna do
- 36:40Speaker 1: too during camp, because look, I'm not the biggest of
- 36:43Speaker 1: Dori Jackson fan. I actually was when he was coming
- 36:45Speaker 1: out of college. But he gets drafted by the Tennessee Titans.
- 36:50Speaker 1: I thought he was gonna develop well, just really never
- 36:52Speaker 1: did heads up to New York plays for the Giants.
- 36:55Speaker 1: I just I've seen a Dori Jackson get burnt way
- 36:57Speaker 1: way too many times and I just haven't been the
- 37:01Speaker 1: biggest fan of him. Kiey Rango having a decent camp,
- 37:04Speaker 1: but I think this particular talent with Bennett really really
- 37:08Speaker 1: gives that room. I mean, you want to see the
- 37:11Speaker 1: competition like it Nerds like me who are following training
- 37:15Speaker 1: camp like consistently every day, I'm getting tweets and notifications
- 37:19Speaker 1: to my phone during camp from certain reporters about what
- 37:23Speaker 1: is happening right at that particular point in time with
- 37:26Speaker 1: the plays. Yeah, like this stuff is to me, this
- 37:29Speaker 1: is important about where this defense is going to go
- 37:31Speaker 1: this year because seriously, Darius Slay not not not perfect
- 37:35Speaker 1: by any stretch last season, but a big, big reason
- 37:38Speaker 1: why the defense was so so successful. And I think
- 37:41Speaker 1: that's been kind of an underrated storyline. This cornerback to
- 37:44Speaker 1: position and who is going to take it, you know,
- 37:47Speaker 1: opposite side of the field from Quinnon Mitchell and I'm
- 37:52Speaker 1: liking this move.
- 37:54Speaker 3: I am too, because you brought up a good point
- 37:56Speaker 3: just now. Not you know, the Eagles won the Super
- 37:59Speaker 3: Bowl reminder everybody, Yeah, and like, but you know, not
- 38:05Speaker 3: a ton of talk on like how to improve the team,
- 38:08Speaker 3: how to keep this going. I mean, I know there
- 38:09Speaker 3: has been some, but like one of the key things
- 38:11Speaker 3: I think has not been talking about quite enough is
- 38:13Speaker 3: like losing one of your starting cornerbacks on a team
- 38:18Speaker 3: that had is such a solid, solid secondary, one of
- 38:20Speaker 3: the one of the key reasons they won every game
- 38:22Speaker 3: in playoffs and killed that Chiefs team they shut down.
- 38:24Speaker 3: I mean, the defensive line did their job, but like
- 38:27Speaker 3: the secondary like stepped on their throat, you know, like
- 38:31Speaker 3: that was really the end of the game. And they
- 38:33Speaker 3: had the strongest secondary in football by the end of
- 38:36Speaker 3: the year, I think, And to lose one of the
- 38:38Speaker 3: key starters, it's like that's a big deal. And and
- 38:42Speaker 3: really not have anybody just step in, you know, they
- 38:44Speaker 3: didn't have a rookie just kind of just waiting in
- 38:47Speaker 3: the wings. Now Mitchell's now, Mitchell is your stud. He's
- 38:50Speaker 3: only his second year. I know he looked awesome, but
- 38:52Speaker 3: that is a lot of responsibility to be the top
- 38:54Speaker 3: cornerback at twenty three years old, second year in the league. Like,
- 39:00Speaker 3: I'm hoping one of these guys steps up to help
- 39:02Speaker 3: him out because I don't want him to struggle because
- 39:04Speaker 3: he has to step into the main role.
- 39:06Speaker 2: It may not be quite ready for it, So I
- 39:08Speaker 2: don't know. I think it's a big.
- 39:09Speaker 3: Storyline and one that could potentially be an issue down
- 39:13Speaker 3: the road, because you know what a bad secondary can
- 39:15Speaker 3: do to a team.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Absolutely just horrendous.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, all right, Well, we're gonna be keeping tabs
- 39:21Speaker 1: on what happens with this Eagles team as we continue
- 39:24Speaker 1: to dish out the content to you every week here
- 39:27Speaker 1: at the PST Podcast Show, and we're gonna be talking
- 39:29Speaker 1: to Alexis chasin in just a bit, Eric, do you
- 39:33Speaker 1: have anything else? Before you head out of here? And
- 39:35Speaker 1: before I get to talking with Alexis here, I.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Will start the outline this weekend for the Process Show.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Odd seriously, that is gonna be such a fun show.
- 39:45Speaker 1: It really was. We all need to just like get
- 39:47Speaker 1: all this stuff out. We got to get it out
- 39:49Speaker 1: of us.
- 39:51Speaker 3: It's a long time coming because I'm already seeing, like
- 39:54Speaker 3: you know, NBA people are saying that embid contracts is
- 39:57Speaker 3: it's a disaster, and he's not happy. It's like, yes,
- 40:00Speaker 3: we didn't even start the season exactly.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Nobody can all stop camp yet. Yes.
- 40:07Speaker 2: PG thirteen is his knees like noodles already. No, how
- 40:11Speaker 2: do we know this? It's it's August. No, I just
- 40:14Speaker 2: think this season might be a shit show. So let's
- 40:16Speaker 2: let's go ahead of the way.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Absolutely all right, buddy, I'm gonna let you go, and
- 40:21Speaker 1: we are gonna head to break right now. When we
- 40:23Speaker 1: get back, we got more Eagles talk for you.
- 40:27Speaker 2: And now on the table.
- 40:32Speaker 1: We are back and to get into this Philadelphia Eagles
- 40:35Speaker 1: team during the course of training camp here and what's
- 40:37Speaker 1: gonna be happening during this twenty twenty five twenty twenty
- 40:40Speaker 1: six Eagles season. We've got our good friend from Bleedinggreen
- 40:43Speaker 1: Nation dot com. Their website is working now. It's fantastic.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Looks great. We have our good friend, Alexis Chase. And
- 40:50Speaker 1: how you doing.
- 40:51Speaker 4: I'm good?
- 40:52Speaker 3: How are you?
- 40:53Speaker 1: I'm doing all right. I'm so excited. I am so
- 40:55Speaker 1: excited that football is almost here, whether it's college football,
- 40:58Speaker 1: you know what, we got Pens eight football come in
- 41:01Speaker 1: and I know you're happy about that. I'm kidding, folks.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Alexis is a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan. She is
- 41:08Speaker 1: living in Ohio. But but the Eagles are gonna be
- 41:11Speaker 1: here and football is gonna be here, So it's I
- 41:13Speaker 1: can't wait.
- 41:14Speaker 4: Yeah and go big ten. We can at least.
- 41:16Speaker 1: There you go, except for Michigan.
- 41:21Speaker 4: Always, except for Michigan exactly.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Now Harbaugh's not there, so like now I don't know
- 41:25Speaker 1: who I'm gonna hate over there now because I mean
- 41:28Speaker 1: of them, that's true. I mean, but he was really
- 41:30Speaker 1: hateable for a lot of years.
- 41:33Speaker 4: Still is. The Chargers have now really ascended up on
- 41:35Speaker 4: my rankings of teams I don't like because I love it.
- 41:39Speaker 1: I love it all right, Well, let's get into this
- 41:42Speaker 1: Eagles team training camp here. First. Let's start off on
- 41:46Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball here, and we got
- 41:49Speaker 1: to get into the fact that Howie Roseman is doing
- 41:52Speaker 1: Howie Roseman things. We've seen this already during camp. He
- 41:56Speaker 1: traded defensive tackle Thomas Booker the fourth to the Raiders
- 42:00Speaker 1: for a cornerback, a cornerback in ja Coreyan Bennett. I
- 42:05Speaker 1: love this trade quite frankly from everything that I've read.
- 42:08Speaker 1: You know, you look at that the film on Bennett
- 42:11Speaker 1: and what he is able to do against certain like
- 42:14Speaker 1: big time receivers in this league. Alexis again, I love
- 42:18Speaker 1: this trade, so wanted to get into it. I guess
- 42:20Speaker 1: the first question would be, what do you think this
- 42:24Speaker 1: trade is reflective of, I mean, kille Ringo, perhaps not
- 42:28Speaker 1: developing the way they're hoping, not enough trust in a
- 42:31Speaker 1: Dori Jackson. What do you think this trade is really
- 42:33Speaker 1: reflective of.
- 42:36Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't know that it's that they don't have
- 42:37Speaker 4: trust in those two guys, But I don't think like
- 42:40Speaker 4: Ringo specifically has really taken much of a lead in
- 42:43Speaker 4: the competition. Yeah, and Vic Fangio hasn't been really as
- 42:49Speaker 4: complimentary towards Jackson as I feel like some of the
- 42:52Speaker 4: other players. So it makes me feel like they just
- 42:54Speaker 4: want to add in, you know, a little more competition there.
- 42:58Speaker 4: I could even see it being Ringo and Bennett, But
- 43:03Speaker 4: I feel like, since nobody has taken the lead, then
- 43:05Speaker 4: why not add somebody else in, especially somebody who's pretty young, Yeah,
- 43:09Speaker 4: who seems to be productive when he does get the
- 43:11Speaker 4: opportunity to be on the field, So you know, why not.
- 43:14Speaker 4: Although Nick Sirianni will, of course say it's just a
- 43:17Speaker 4: depth edition, we're totally comfortable with the room.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Right exactly. So I also wonder too, and to follow
- 43:23Speaker 1: up with this, like, what should we really like about
- 43:26Speaker 1: this trade? I mean, and is there anything to dislike
- 43:29Speaker 1: about the trade? I can't really see anything to dislike
- 43:32Speaker 1: at this point. What do you think we should be
- 43:35Speaker 1: liking about this trade in terms of the future, whether
- 43:37Speaker 1: it's this this particular season, perhaps or maybe an well
- 43:41Speaker 1: into the future.
- 43:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's good in terms of adding like
- 43:45Speaker 4: another young talented player in the secondary. It gives them
- 43:48Speaker 4: another option, especially as they're coming up on having to
- 43:52Speaker 4: pay a lot of these guys figure out who is
- 43:54Speaker 4: worth a second contract, right you know, Ringo now has
- 43:58Speaker 4: had a few years, so you know, is he going
- 44:01Speaker 4: to be the guy? Is he going to make that
- 44:02Speaker 4: step from special teams player to defensive guy? So I
- 44:07Speaker 4: think it's a good thing to add another young, potential
- 44:10Speaker 4: guy who might be worth a second contract.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:12Speaker 4: I think the negative for me is more so losing
- 44:16Speaker 4: Booker just he was you know, productive last season, and
- 44:20Speaker 4: just in terms of depth, I'm more comfortable with the
- 44:23Speaker 4: cornerback depth right now than I am with the defensive
- 44:26Speaker 4: tackle debt. Yeah, so I you know, I don't really
- 44:30Speaker 4: necessarily like that trade off, but ultimately I think, you know,
- 44:33Speaker 4: Bennet's a fine addition. You know, it seemed to another
- 44:36Speaker 4: how he did it again moment, so we'll have to see.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Well, talking about the defensive line, it's a great segue
- 44:43Speaker 1: into what I wanted to dive into next here, alexis
- 44:46Speaker 1: because the pass rushers are getting a lot of coverage
- 44:51Speaker 1: in training camp rightfully, so Moro Ojamo appears to be
- 44:55Speaker 1: developing well, even depth guys like Azi's O Laa and
- 45:01Speaker 1: josh uk is it U k o j I think so, yeah, Yeah,
- 45:06Speaker 1: they've they've They've been having nice camps so far and
- 45:10Speaker 1: in very good practices. I mean, the pass rush in
- 45:13Speaker 1: D line was a big area of concern for me
- 45:16Speaker 1: after this team lost a pretty significant veteran presence during
- 45:20Speaker 1: the course of this offseason. So I'm wondering what are
- 45:22Speaker 1: your thoughts about the defensive line, perhaps in a little
- 45:24Speaker 1: bit more detail. I'd know that you said you're just
- 45:26Speaker 1: concerned about the defensive tackle depth, but as it pertains
- 45:29Speaker 1: even to the pass rush from what you and the
- 45:33Speaker 1: folks of Bleedinggreen nation dot com have been reporting on
- 45:36Speaker 1: thus far during camp, what are your thoughts about this
- 45:38Speaker 1: D line and the pass rush really heading into this
- 45:40Speaker 1: season here.
- 45:42Speaker 4: It seems like everyone has been planning for Morrow to
- 45:47Speaker 4: take over for Milton william Yeah. Like, as sad as
- 45:50Speaker 4: Eagles fans were to lose Milton Williams, I feel like
- 45:53Speaker 4: the team definitely knew that was going to happen and
- 45:58Speaker 4: are expecting Morow to to really step up this year,
- 46:02Speaker 4: and uh so I'm not that worried. I would like
- 46:05Speaker 4: during the preseason to see you know, like rookie Ty
- 46:08Speaker 4: Robinson step up. They've been really complimentary of Gabe Hall.
- 46:15Speaker 4: Him specifically is why they supposedly were okay with trading
- 46:18Speaker 4: Booker because Hall had really like taken a step up
- 46:21Speaker 4: this year. So I'll feel a little better after the
- 46:24Speaker 4: preseason in terms of that. I mean, we you know,
- 46:27Speaker 4: Jordan Davis looks great and Jalen Carter's wonderful, but some
- 46:31Speaker 4: of those other guys seeing how that rotation is going
- 46:34Speaker 4: to work out. I'm also not super concerned about the
- 46:37Speaker 4: past rush. I don't know. I feel like with Nolan Smith,
- 46:41Speaker 4: like everyone is just you know, saying how much he's
- 46:45Speaker 4: really taken on a role and listening to him speak
- 46:48Speaker 4: this offseason, and how Brandon Graham kind of, you know,
- 46:51Speaker 4: handed him those reins to be a leader. And Jaylex
- 46:55Speaker 4: Hunt is really coming on at.
- 47:00Speaker 1: Sometimes folks forget about Jaylex Hunt.
- 47:01Speaker 4: Yes, and he's going to be so good. And so
- 47:05Speaker 4: I feel like them along, like with the linebackers, they're
- 47:09Speaker 4: talented enough, you know, and athletic enough to also be
- 47:13Speaker 4: in that mix. So I think Fangio has a lot
- 47:17Speaker 4: of different pieces that he can move around to the
- 47:20Speaker 4: pass rush. So again, to see some of the younger
- 47:23Speaker 4: guys step up during the preseason will give me a
- 47:25Speaker 4: lot more confidence. But like right now, like I'm not panicked, right,
- 47:30Speaker 4: so I'll take it.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Yes, I don't think we should be panicked when it
- 47:33Speaker 1: comes to this Eagles team, like on either side of
- 47:35Speaker 1: the ball, you know, I mean, we thinks could be
- 47:38Speaker 1: a lot worse. I mean, we could be the Atlanta Falcons.
- 47:40Speaker 1: You could be the Chicago Bears, you know where I have.
- 47:44Speaker 4: Been burned more than a few times with being you know,
- 47:47Speaker 4: cautiously optimistic, so that it's true.
- 47:51Speaker 1: All yes, we all have been for sure. All right, Well,
- 47:54Speaker 1: move it along with the conversation here and really kind
- 47:57Speaker 1: of sticking to a defensive storyline. I mean, look, the
- 48:00Speaker 1: rumors are floating around about if and when Micah Parsons
- 48:06Speaker 1: might be traded down in Dallas. You know you love
- 48:08Speaker 1: to see this storyline, you really do. You love to
- 48:10Speaker 1: see this storyline. The discord that's going on within Cowboys
- 48:15Speaker 1: Nation just a terribly run organization as we're seeing as
- 48:19Speaker 1: Jerry Jones is getting older. But my goodness, the Eagles are. Honestly,
- 48:24Speaker 1: you look around the web and the Eagles are actually
- 48:26Speaker 1: slated to be one of the teams where Parsons might
- 48:28Speaker 1: actually go to. Who knows the validity of this because
- 48:31Speaker 1: the internet is going to internet, But I'm wondering, do you,
- 48:34Speaker 1: Alexis really see the Eagles trying to make a logical
- 48:38Speaker 1: move to acquire Michael Parsons from the Cowboys? And I
- 48:40Speaker 1: guess the second question also would be what would what
- 48:42Speaker 1: would a package look like to get Parsons to this
- 48:45Speaker 1: Bird's team? Because I've seen some crazy things out there.
- 48:47Speaker 1: What are you thinking here?
- 48:49Speaker 4: It's very strange because logically, with the rosters that Eagles have,
- 48:54Speaker 4: I don't know that it makes sense to go after
- 48:55Speaker 4: Micah Parsons, okay, But also when you have the opportunity
- 48:59Speaker 4: to go after one of the best, you know, defenders
- 49:03Speaker 4: in the National Football League, sometimes it doesn't need to
- 49:05Speaker 4: be logical. You just need to get him, ye, And
- 49:09Speaker 4: so I think it's really fun to think about. I
- 49:13Speaker 4: don't know, you know that the Cowboys would go that route,
- 49:19Speaker 4: And you know, I don't even think Jerry Jones is
- 49:21Speaker 4: probably entertaining any phone calls, but you know, he's the
- 49:25Speaker 4: best gift all thirty one NFL teams not named the
- 49:28Speaker 4: Cowboys could have. I don't know. I think he would
- 49:33Speaker 4: have to go for multiple first round picks, and honestly,
- 49:37Speaker 4: the Eagles have thirteen picks next year, so I don't
- 49:40Speaker 4: think the draft capital would really hinder them. I'm sure
- 49:44Speaker 4: you know the Cowboys would give us a bit of
- 49:46Speaker 4: an NFC East tax in there, But I like my
- 49:50Speaker 4: concern would be the next contract. I mean, he wants
- 49:53Speaker 4: that contract extension, and we're already paying all of our
- 49:57Speaker 4: offensive players. In two to three, all of our defensive
- 50:01Speaker 4: players are going to be up for those big contracts,
- 50:04Speaker 4: and so I don't as much of a magician as
- 50:07Speaker 4: how he is. I don't know where he could come
- 50:09Speaker 4: up with that money without losing several important pieces of
- 50:14Speaker 4: the future. So it might not be logical, But also
- 50:18Speaker 4: it's fun to think about.
- 50:19Speaker 1: It is it's fun to think about. That's why I
- 50:20Speaker 1: wanted to ask if we're a podcast, Philly Sports podcast,
- 50:23Speaker 1: we got to talk about the possibility whether or not
- 50:26Speaker 1: it is logical. So honestly, I'm with you. I don't
- 50:30Speaker 1: necessarily know that making a move like this would be
- 50:33Speaker 1: the smartest from a financial perspective for this team well
- 50:36Speaker 1: into the future. When I think Howie Roseman has demonstrated
- 50:40Speaker 1: and shown over these past few seasons that he has
- 50:43Speaker 1: a good handle on team building. There's a plan, there's
- 50:47Speaker 1: a vision, and let's not screw with that right now
- 50:51Speaker 1: when that plan and vision have manifested into their second
- 50:55Speaker 1: Super Bowl win and a team that is likely going
- 50:58Speaker 1: to be pretty dominant this season and perhaps even in
- 51:01Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. So I don't want to put the
- 51:03Speaker 1: car before the horse on that. But to kind of
- 51:07Speaker 1: wrap things up with regard to the Eagles defense here,
- 51:10Speaker 1: and I know it's a general question for you, a Lexis,
- 51:12Speaker 1: but you know who are you most excited to really
- 51:15Speaker 1: see develop on the defensive side of the ball during camp? Here?
- 51:19Speaker 1: And why have you been looking at certain players on
- 51:21Speaker 1: this team?
- 51:23Speaker 4: Yes, I've got a big one, Sydney Brown. I have
- 51:26Speaker 4: been waiting for him to have his moment for three years. Yes,
- 51:30Speaker 4: and he finally is healthy. He has had a full
- 51:33Speaker 4: off season. Fangio is excited, which I feel like when
- 51:37Speaker 4: you get Fangio excited about a player, it's like, oh,
- 51:41Speaker 4: he must really be good, right, And I just I
- 51:44Speaker 4: love his energy. He runs one thousand miles an hour,
- 51:48Speaker 4: like all over the field, and so I just wanted
- 51:51Speaker 4: him to have his moment, and I like, this is
- 51:53Speaker 4: his chance because last year, even with the injury stuff, like,
- 51:57Speaker 4: it looked like it was his chance. But then you
- 51:59Speaker 4: know we have DJ Gardner Johnson and you know we
- 52:03Speaker 4: had other safeties that it was like, oh, well, is
- 52:05Speaker 4: he gonna be a starter, and then he was still
- 52:07Speaker 4: like the special teams guy. Yep, But I think he
- 52:11Speaker 4: has it. He reminds me kind of like Malcolm Jenkins
- 52:15Speaker 4: out there, just like everywhere the ball is, you see
- 52:18Speaker 4: him like he's there and he's trying to get the ball.
- 52:21Speaker 4: So I really want him to like take it to
- 52:25Speaker 4: that next step.
- 52:26Speaker 1: I hope he does. I hope he does for sure. Again,
- 52:29Speaker 1: folks were talking to Alexis Chason from Bleedinggreen Nation dot com.
- 52:33Speaker 1: She's on the interwebs out there. Should give her a
- 52:35Speaker 1: follow on Twitter, slash x and maybe over on TikTok
- 52:39Speaker 1: as well. Let everybody know where they can find you.
- 52:40Speaker 4: Alexis Yeah, Twitter and ex at Lovely Buckeye and on
- 52:45Speaker 4: TikTok at go Birds and Buckeyes.
- 52:48Speaker 1: There you go, all right, man, this Buckeyes thing. It's bothered.
- 52:53Speaker 1: I say that all the time whenever you come on
- 52:54Speaker 1: the show.
- 52:55Speaker 4: Well, I mean it's fair exactly.
- 52:57Speaker 1: All right. Well, let's take a look at what we're
- 53:00Speaker 1: going to be seeing and what we have been seeing
- 53:02Speaker 1: thus far from this Eagles offense. Let's flip the script
- 53:06Speaker 1: here one point eighty. The Eagles, as we know, they
- 53:09Speaker 1: have one of the most dominant, if not the most
- 53:11Speaker 1: dominant offensive line in the league. We've talked to We've
- 53:16Speaker 1: talked about it, excuse me before, about how well an
- 53:19Speaker 1: offensive line plays and how well they gel together, is
- 53:23Speaker 1: how productive an offense is going to be at any
- 53:26Speaker 1: level of football. We've talked about that a number of
- 53:29Speaker 1: times here on this podcast show. I know you and
- 53:30Speaker 1: I have spoken about it too as well when you've
- 53:33Speaker 1: been on the show, Alexis. So let's talk about a
- 53:35Speaker 1: few guys and some storylines here. And the first guy
- 53:38Speaker 1: I want to get into is Tyler Steen, the presumptive
- 53:41Speaker 1: starter at right guard. I mean, the right guard position
- 53:45Speaker 1: really has been kind of a revolving door over these years,
- 53:49Speaker 1: really since Brandon Brooks kind of left left this team
- 53:53Speaker 1: and retired. I'm wondering with Tyler Steen here. You know,
- 53:57Speaker 1: will he be able to make that jump and help
- 53:59Speaker 1: the offensive line continue to dominate. What are your thoughts here?
- 54:04Speaker 4: I think he can. I don't know that he's like
- 54:08Speaker 4: still the long term solution, okay for that position, Like
- 54:13Speaker 4: I still think you know, next year, Like, I don't
- 54:16Speaker 4: know that he's going to be the guy long term.
- 54:18Speaker 4: But you know, everybody has really talked fondly about how
- 54:24Speaker 4: you know, he's taken a bigger role this year, how
- 54:27Speaker 4: much better shape he's in, things like that, And I
- 54:30Speaker 4: don't think they're just gassing him up just to do it,
- 54:33Speaker 4: you know. I think they do have other options and
- 54:35Speaker 4: other depth guys. I mean even Matt Pryor like could
- 54:38Speaker 4: do the job. So yeah, I think I think he
- 54:41Speaker 4: can do it, you know, And honestly, with Jeff Stotlin there,
- 54:45Speaker 4: like I wouldn't be surprised, Like he makes sure those
- 54:49Speaker 4: guys are plug and play ready.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely. All right, Well let's move over to another
- 54:53Speaker 1: guy who I love watching and he's been getting a
- 54:55Speaker 1: lot of love on Twitter, slash x, just in terms
- 54:59Speaker 1: of Super Bowl play, what he did on the line,
- 55:02Speaker 1: the type of vision that he has, how he's able
- 55:05Speaker 1: to really take care of blocking those stunts, that are
- 55:07Speaker 1: coming from other defenses, and I'm talking about Landon Dickerson.
- 55:11Speaker 1: My gosh, he's tough as nails. But the concern and
- 55:15Speaker 1: storyline I think here is that we've seen how he
- 55:18Speaker 1: can injure himself out there, and it's because he's so dominant,
- 55:22Speaker 1: it's because he's just putting himself out there on the
- 55:24Speaker 1: line all the time. Should we be concerned about how
- 55:27Speaker 1: often he's been facing these injuries small injuries here and there,
- 55:32Speaker 1: some you know, not as small. I don't know, have
- 55:34Speaker 1: you given this any thought?
- 55:35Speaker 4: Alexis Yeah, in a way like yes and no, I
- 55:40Speaker 4: am sort of always concerned about offensive line and getting injured.
- 55:44Speaker 4: I feel like that group will get injured every year,
- 55:47Speaker 4: probably a few times. They'll wrap it up, They'll make
- 55:49Speaker 4: it work and keep it moving. I just feel like
- 55:53Speaker 4: that's the nature of their position in a way. So
- 55:56Speaker 4: that we saw that with Jason Kelce like he was
- 55:59Speaker 4: in but he still kept pushing. Lane Johnson pushes as
- 56:03Speaker 4: much as he can. Like, So yes, I'm worried, but
- 56:08Speaker 4: not any more than I am with all the other
- 56:10Speaker 4: guys on the line. Uh. And I think you know,
- 56:13Speaker 4: like you said, he's super tough, So yes, he'll be.
- 56:15Speaker 1: There, okay, all right, And you mentioned the last gentleman
- 56:19Speaker 1: I wanted to get into, and he actually is top two,
- 56:23Speaker 1: top three of course, Philadelphia Eagle. For me, I got
- 56:27Speaker 1: his jersey when he was a rookie down at the
- 56:30Speaker 1: pro shop at the Link. And I'm talking about Lane Johnson.
- 56:33Speaker 1: It's getting up there in age. It's getting up there
- 56:35Speaker 1: in age. And as much as I hate to say it, uh,
- 56:37Speaker 1: you know, he's no spring Chicken anymore, but he is
- 56:40Speaker 1: not slowing down at all. You think he's gonna be
- 56:44Speaker 1: able to play at a high level this season, you know,
- 56:46Speaker 1: even after getting that ninety nine rank in Madden. Here,
- 56:49Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on Lane?
- 56:51Speaker 4: I feel like he has never given me a reason
- 56:53Speaker 4: to doubt him. Yeah, everyer he comes back better than before,
- 56:57Speaker 4: somehow more in shape and more athletic. He and Kelsey
- 57:01Speaker 4: have both talked about how as you get older, you're
- 57:03Speaker 4: not maybe as physically gifted, so you have to be
- 57:05Speaker 4: more technically sound, which obviously makes them better players. But
- 57:10Speaker 4: then also I think Laane is getting better physically so like,
- 57:15Speaker 4: as much as you know he has to be technically sound,
- 57:20Speaker 4: he's also still super in shape, probably more in shape
- 57:23Speaker 4: than he was last year, and so I think he
- 57:27Speaker 4: set the bar for his position and I think he's
- 57:30Speaker 4: the guy who will top it again and reset the
- 57:33Speaker 4: bar this year.
- 57:34Speaker 1: Too when he posts those videos of him and his
- 57:37Speaker 1: home Jim. He's a freaking beast and a freak of nature.
- 57:43Speaker 1: It's incredible, Alexis.
- 57:45Speaker 4: I know, And you know what, Jordan Davis reminds me
- 57:47Speaker 4: of him now, where like he's so big but also
- 57:51Speaker 4: so toned that like it's it doesn't make sense kind
- 57:57Speaker 4: of but you're like, Wow, you are strong and probably
- 58:00Speaker 4: going to like hold guys at the line. So that'll
- 58:04Speaker 4: be good.
- 58:04Speaker 1: That'll be fantastic. Yes, well, look, moving along here, I
- 58:09Speaker 1: want to get into some Jalen Hurts talk, you know.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Last thing. I want to be as a negative Nelly
- 58:14Speaker 1: at all with regard to Jalen Hurts because I love
- 58:17Speaker 1: the man. I love him for what he did last year,
- 58:19Speaker 1: how he's developed as a player. His overall just logical
- 58:24Speaker 1: and very mindful attitude about life is so refreshing as
- 58:29Speaker 1: an NFL player to watch, and the fact that he's
- 58:32Speaker 1: on my favorite pro team is great. But I'm interested
- 58:36Speaker 1: to see this season if Jalen Hurts is really able
- 58:38Speaker 1: to take those next steps in terms of getting the
- 58:41Speaker 1: ball to his intermediate route receivers in the middle of
- 58:45Speaker 1: the field. I mean, it has now for some time
- 58:48Speaker 1: been an ongoing storyline Alexis. It's something I hope he's
- 58:51Speaker 1: working on because it's going to open up this offense
- 58:54Speaker 1: even more in my opinion. So what are you hoping
- 58:57Speaker 1: to see from this Eagles offense this season when it
- 59:00Speaker 1: comes to the passing game, and even in terms of
- 59:03Speaker 1: Jaalen Hurts getting the ball to his receiving.
- 59:06Speaker 4: Corps, it's really comforting to know that, like anything we
- 59:10Speaker 4: may think about Jalen Hurts or think that he needs
- 59:13Speaker 4: to improve on, there's no doubt that he doesn't already
- 59:16Speaker 4: know that and is already working on it. Of all
- 59:19Speaker 4: the quarterbacks in the league, like some of them, I'm
- 59:22Speaker 4: sure like still on vacation somewhere and he's like, no,
- 59:27Speaker 4: I need to step up the passing game or you know,
- 59:29Speaker 4: whatever it may be. Yeah, So that's at least comforting.
- 59:32Speaker 4: But for me, I'd like to see them get more
- 59:35Speaker 4: points early in games, like in the first quarter of games,
- 59:40Speaker 4: would be just so great. And you know, I think
- 59:45Speaker 4: that that also comes with getting the passing game going
- 59:48Speaker 4: a little bit more like, yes, it's great to run
- 59:50Speaker 4: Saquon and get their defense tired, and then in the
- 59:53Speaker 4: second half you've got them where you want them, but like,
- 59:56Speaker 4: you know, maybe get the passing game going earlier. And
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: I feel like I was rewatching, you know, some of
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: those documentaries and things, and the offense was so dominant
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: in the postseason run that it's easy to forget that.
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: Like you spent half the season saying like, fix this,
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: what are you doing right? Which is actually really encouraging
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: because there's there's so much to improve on, but they
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: were already also so good, so like the ceiling is
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: incredible to think about. So yes, seeing some of those
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: incremental improvements could make a really big difference. And so
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: I'm just hoping for like a faster start both in
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: the season and in each game, I think.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: And that is a fantastic segue into this next and
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: last topic before I let you go, because yes, this
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: offense is very solid. We know that we have so
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: many returning players and veterans at just about every position
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: that we're going to be seeing on the field this season.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Who are you most excited to really see develop on
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: the offensive? Side of the ball during camp here and why.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: I mean it may not have to be a starter,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: but I mean, who are you looking forward to seeing
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: developing through camp and maybe the early part of the season.
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: It's gotta be Johan Dotson.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: Yeah, he filled his role so well last year. You know,
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: he did what he was asked, He never complained, and
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: he got into Philly like just before the season. He
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: had no off season with the team, barely any training camp,
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: and he still you know, was effective, Like he made
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: big plays when it mattered most Like if you look
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: at his film through the whole season, there are quite
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: a bit of you know, route issues and you know
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: things like that that if he cleans those up and
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: has a whole off season with the offense and with
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: Jalen Hurts to like get their chemistry and timing on point, Like,
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: I think he could really, you know, take that third
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: wide receiver spot and keep it. But you know, there
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: is a lot of competition in that room. But I
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: think he really he's earned the chance to like earn
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: the position.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, it was great talking to her folks, Alexis
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Chason and follow her on the interwebs out there again,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Let everybody know where they can follow.
