- 0:57SPEAKER_03: Hi, thank you.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: How are you today?
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm great.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: I'm good.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: I woke up early in the morning to watch Click rewatch.
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: Obviously, I'd seen it.
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: So that's how I am.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Which is also like the it's what not what he would do in the movie.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he'd fast forward that.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: Also because the last time I watched it, I was uh nine.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: You were nine?
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, when it came out.
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: I was nine years old when it came out.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: And I cried.
- 1:27SPEAKER_03: And I'm still nine years old now.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: I was I I'll tell you how old I was, and it wasn't nine.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: I was 17.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: No.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: It came out in 2006.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: How old are you?
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: I'm 36.
- 1:43SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 1:46SPEAKER_06: You look so young.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: I know, I know.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: Everyone says it.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: What the heck?
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: I was like, this teenage pregnancy man.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: I was gonna be like, I was really gonna be like, hey man, like it happens all of us at some point.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Oh no, I'm like fully of the age appropriate age appropriate.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: I'm for those who don't know, I'm I'm having a child next month.
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: And I was really trying to tread lightly around the subject because I thought it might be the sore spot because he's so young.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm 18.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: I thought you were like 27.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: And I was like, you know what, it's old enough, but I can see why he's nervous.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: No.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: No, I I'm fair enough.
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, wow.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Now I'm 36.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: 37 in January.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: So you were 17 when you watched Clique, which is a totally different experience.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: It was a very different experience, yeah.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: But like I remembered crying when I saw it.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: I also remember like getting teary eye from it.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: But I also cried this morning when I watched it.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: I I um I will say I had a different experience today.
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: How did you find it today?
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: I I don't think it held up as well as I remembered it.
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: I feel like with the baby coming, it's so relevant.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: I know, I would I thought it was going to, given everything.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: I was like, this is No, I think that stuff holds up really well.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: And then I think there's a lot of problematic stuff in it.
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: The problem is that you're having a girl and uh girls and clique, not really girls, women, no, the females.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: Not that's a real side plot.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they are not the fact that the last words he says to his daughter after everything he's experienced is one day you're gonna be really hot.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like the whole thing is around her, like the way she dresses, and like and also like there's a thing of um you don't get to know about sex until like you're you are 18 and you are like 40 or something like that.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: He says like Yeah, or where he's like, Oh wow, like who's that looker on your arm?
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: And he's like, That's your daughter.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: And everything with his wife, who is just like she has no time.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: So I watched it this morning with my cousin.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: Oh, who um, bless her, had to wake up with me.
- 4:14SPEAKER_03: Did you wake her up to watch it?
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Why are you making your entire family watch watch all of these movies with you?
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, I made my brother.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: I was gonna review a different movie, which I couldn't, but I made my brother watch that with me.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm just like, um I like to be accompanied in my life experiences.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: That's yeah, that's so funny based on what you were also saying right before this as well, which is you don't you don't like movies about loneliness.
- 4:42SPEAKER_03: I don't like to be confronted with loneliness even through a screen.
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: I just don't want to hear about it.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: It's sad.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: It is sad.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm not gonna watch a movie alone.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: Um I'd love to watch a movie alone.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, people say that.
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: And to that I say no.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: What was the last movie you watched alone?
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Do you remember?
- 5:05SPEAKER_03: I've never seen a movie alone.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: What?
- 5:07unknown: No.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: What do you mean?
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: I've never watched a movie alone.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: How is that possible?
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: Why would I?
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: I just won't watch the movie then.
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: I'll do something else.
- 5:16SPEAKER_03: I'll do an activity that I'm meant to do alone.
- 5:18SPEAKER_03: Like a run.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: I'll go on a run.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: I'll eat some food.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: I'll um things I do alone.
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: I'll scroll, but I won't watch a movie.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: There is nothing better than going to the cinema alone.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: It's such a nice experience.
- 5:32SPEAKER_03: It's like um I feel like it's a cultural thing.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: Like, for example, you know, now like solo traveling is so in.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, see, I'm not as into that, but I've done it.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: And it's it's fine.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: I'll like I when I say solo traveling, it's like I don't know, I've been a few places, but that are not like I'm not like exploring or anything, I'm just going on like city breaks.
- 5:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like in my culture, obviously, like I'm from Iran.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: Like if you say like so-and-so is going on a trip and they're like with who and you're like by themselves, they're like, What?
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: Like, that's a true tragedy.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: Like loneliness is a big no-go.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: But the thing is, like, because we have a lot of family and friends, you don't actually have to be lonely.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: So No.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: So I just anyway.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: How many siblings have you got?
- 6:20SPEAKER_03: Just one, my brother.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: But you're never alone growing up.
- 6:25SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, there's always someone staying at your house who just got a visa, or like you're sharing your room with yeah.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm used to I've got I've got a fairly big family.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: I've got a famil a family of there's um well, there's six of us in my immediate family.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I've got a lot of like six, so like your parents parents and one brother, two sisters.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it's a big f it was a big like immediate family, but then like my my I've got one first cousin.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: No.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: How's that possible?
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: Uh my dad's an only child.
- 7:01unknown: What?
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: I have so like my cousin that I was mentioning, she's not even my first cousin.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: I've got a lot of second cousins.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, how many?
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: I have like over 200.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Okay, I don't no, it's not that.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: You want me to watch a movie alone?
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, okay.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: No, no, it makes sense why you don't No, I just don't have the attention panels.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: So you're you like some the kind of person that's always talking through movies?
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: No.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: No, I don't like it when people talk movies.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: My cousin was talking the whole time this morning.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: Although her insights were so useful.
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah because I can say them on the podcast, but I was also like, shut up.
- 7:37SPEAKER_03: Did she like the movie?
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: Um, she no.
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: Well, we both came out of it being like, wow, we just experienced um like the full range of emotion, and it's not even like 9 a.m.
- 7:49SPEAKER_03: yet.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: That's when you were watching it.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: I cried, I f I felt everything.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: You are really early then.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: I take my job seriously.
- 8:01SPEAKER_03: Um, but she so what she was saying, she's hilarious.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: I wish you should have had her on this podcast, to be honest with you.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: You should have brought her on with you.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: I wanted to.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: I didn't know if that was allowed.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: Um she says that she's she's there's something she calls the plight of the hot woman.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: Okay, which is where she thinks um that I have to say she's also incredibly hot, but she thinks that like a lot of hot women um just have the most tragic lives, you know, because their boyfriends suck, and like they're just like they're so hot and they're going through like, and every time anything happened to Adam Sandler's wife, she'd be like, It's the plight of a hot woman, like this whole movie, and all the ladies who worked in the office, the really hot women, all of them having a terrible time, and she just kept being like, This movie is about the plight of the hot woman, if anything.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: But even but even his assistants having a terrible time.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: What the the one who transitioned?
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, the what the fuck was that?
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: Well, that was really that's really problematic.
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: I really came out no way and why why do they dress up as as as poker huntists all the time?
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that was a thing back then.
- 9:12SPEAKER_03: That was also unnecessary.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: Why does that guy keep being like, I really want to fuck your wife?
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and also, and he's like, Yeah, thanks.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: He has no he has no issue with it.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the whole um I would say I am here to defend Click.
- 9:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: But I can't defend I'd say, you know, dock 20 points off for the woman thing.
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: But let's remember this is 2006, where men can still be their authentic selves.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: It's 2006, it's not 1980 though.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: 1980 would have been better for women, I think.
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: I think it went a little bit, woo.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: Uh maybe.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: You know?
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: It makes me think of I always go back to like I don't know.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: When I think of the 80s movies, I think of like Back to the Future, which was not good for women in that movie.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: I haven't seen that.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: I have to say I haven't seen a lot of movies.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: Okay, fair enough.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: Which is why I'm great for this podcast.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: I don't want to spoil the one very key point of the that that's not good for women in that movie, but it's a very key point of the movie.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: What happened?
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: It's just stuff to do with his his Oh, it's it's it's complicated.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: But I'd say that some Adam Sandler movies aren't that bad.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: No, I actually First Dates.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: 50 First Dates is great.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: I love so again, he is I I've said this so many times on the podcast, he's the most he's the he's the person that comes up the most on this podcast because everyone loves his movies, but they're never well rated.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what's with that?
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: Also, you know, I once were you there for so there's this thing where like comedians play basketball in London.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: No, but I saw the picture of it and I was like, what the hell?
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: So I used to go every week, and that was the one week I didn't go.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: And then Adam Sandler was there.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: I was so upset about that.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: That's for a movie.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: I never went back.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: That's because he was in town for like a movie that's coming out like soon called J.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: Kelly.
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: What, like R.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: Kelly, but with a J?
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: No, J-A-Y.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: Oh, J.
- 11:15SPEAKER_03: Kelly.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: It's some George Clooney movie that he's in.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: But they filmed, I don't know what it looks like.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: The thing is, I'm confused about is it looks like it was filmed in America, but it was all filmed here.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, why did why have they done that?
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: Maybe it was cheaper.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe.
- 11:29SPEAKER_03: I love Ocean's Eleven.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Ocean's 11's great.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: But the point is that Adam Sandler was here for your for the basketball game that you didn't go to.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they all met him.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Why did he go there?
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: Like, what what apparently, so apparently what happened was because we like they booked that court every Saturday, and then a bunch of comedians were playing there, and there's a court next door.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: And one of them walked over and saw Adam Sandler playing on his own.
- 11:50SPEAKER_03: I wish everyone was well.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: Um and they were like, Do you want to play with us?
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: And he was like, Yeah.
- 11:55SPEAKER_03: And then he went around because my flatmate, who's not a comedian, yeah, was also playing basketball with his friends like near there a few days later, and he went to that too.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: Like I think he was just popping up everywhere.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I could- I there there's a thing of like he will go to like pop-up pop up at basketball games or wherever he sees one.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Which is so cute.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: He always has his like Hawaiian shirt and big basketball shorts on.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: That's just what he's known for, and like it's but it's so weird that like I s it was just so weird that all of those comedians saw him.
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I know.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: Except me.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: It's good.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: I would have said something awkward and out of pocket and ruined it.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: I'm sure they all did as well.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but I wouldn't have remembered that.
- 12:39SPEAKER_03: I would have only remembered what I said.
- 12:41SPEAKER_03: But I do think like click is like a good um, especially now, you know, with AI and Chat GPT.
- 12:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: It would be interesting to remake it now.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it like it the the lessons.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 12:55SPEAKER_03: It's very strong in lessons.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: It's maybe too strong.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: Maybe too strong in lessons.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Well, I think it I think it comes on comes on very strong in like certain lessons which are great, and then there's like stuff that I'm like, no, that's that should not be the lesson of them.
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: Why is he so mean to that kid?
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: He's so mean well, do you like he's that kid is called O'Doyle, and there's like a throwback to um Billy Madison.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: There's that the O'Doyle family in that, which he hates.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: And I think it's just a it's like an in-joke.
- 13:25SPEAKER_03: That's that's hilarious.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: Like the O'Doy.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: Gotta give that to him.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: The O'Doyle family are like the rival family in in Billy Madison, and he hates them.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: Imagine getting to a point in your career where you can just do in jokes about that's cool.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: That is cool.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's when you know you've made it as a stand-up as well.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: So he's back on top now.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: What else?
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: I'll defend anything.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: What did you not like about it?
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: I think it's I just thought it was way more problematic than I remembered.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: Okay, but we gotta watch this in the lens of the time at which it was made.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: You know, Black Lives Matter hasn't happened yet.
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: Can women vote in 2000?
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: It doesn't, but is there a single black person in the movie?
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Terry Cruz.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Which makes you immediately mews.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: So Terry Cruz coming off of the back of white chicks and just doing the same scene.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: It's the same thing.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: But they didn't have diversity quotas back then, so he did this out of the goodness of his heart.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: Also, hey, there's a white poca huntus in this.
- 14:45SPEAKER_03: Look, I think for 2006 What's problematic about it is is is his his his his approach to women, but it's representing what a lot of men do actually think at the time.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately it is.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: So is that the fault of the movie or the fault of society?
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Both.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: It's not.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Or neither.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Or Adam Sandler.
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: Or women's fault.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: Who actually it wasn't written by Adam Sandler, so I I will take that.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, who wrote it?
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: Some guy called Steve Corin and Mark O'Keefe.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's actually interesting.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: It was the the same writer as Bruce Almighty.
- 15:26unknown: Oh.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: Which okay, so that guy likes likes a high concept movie.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: I do think it's one of the only movies where when he was like, I woke up and it was all a dream, you're like, Yes.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that's that's another thing where I'm like, oh, you could have done it better than that.
- 15:47SPEAKER_06: No, it was perfect.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: But also, okay, I will give it credit in the sense that it doesn't, it wasn't actually a dream.
- 15:54SPEAKER_06: It wasn't?
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: No, because at the end he still gets the remote.
- 15:58SPEAKER_06: Oh.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: He leaves him the remote.
- 16:01SPEAKER_03: This is like uh, what's that movie?
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, Inception.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: When they're like Inception.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, this is very much like Inception.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: It basically, I think, that click laid the groundwork for Inception.
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: He just took that idea, made it a bit more sophisticated, a bit less misogynist.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: And there you go.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, click is a dream within a dream.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: He um yeah, so like for I will say, I want I want to say like the the the I always forget to say the the the rating of this and until the end of the recording, so I want to say like now.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: This movie is rated 34%, which is not great.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: It's that's the critics.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: The audience 66.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Still not great.
- 16:49SPEAKER_05: I think.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: I thought audiences love this movie.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: 66 isn't that bad.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: It's not, but usually these kind of movies are like st but like high 70s.
- 17:01unknown: Yeah.
- 17:01SPEAKER_03: Well maybe it's because it's too complicated and actually very emotive.
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: And you know what?
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: People they have a cry and they forget to go on rotten tomatoes afterwards.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: Because you're thinking about your life.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: You're thinking about the consequences of your actions.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: It did make me think about a lot of stuff.
- 17:23SPEAKER_06: Right?
- 17:24SPEAKER_06: Oh man.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: I mean like it it makes you not not it makes you want to I don't know.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: I just saw the re I'm sorry, I just saw the letterbox reading for this.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: So out of an average of five, it's at 2.9.
- 17:41SPEAKER_06: That's not bad!
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: That's really bad.
- 17:43SPEAKER_06: What?
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: That's really bad.
- 17:45SPEAKER_06: That's three.
- 17:46SPEAKER_06: Three out of five?
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: What are they saying?
- 17:49SPEAKER_03: Are there specific reviews?
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: Umone said this is a good movie, you fucks.
- 17:58SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: That was me.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Someone gave it one and a half stars, but then I said I didn't expect to cry, but I did.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: How are you gonna give it one and a half stars?
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: The fact that it makes you laugh.
- 18:15SPEAKER_03: And it makes you cry.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Well, someone else else said I thought this was gonna be a funny movie.
- 18:21SPEAKER_06: Rude.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't think this is the I think this is one of his better He he the drama in this is really good.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: I really like the dramatic stuff in this.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: I don't think the comedy is good in this.
- 18:36SPEAKER_03: Look, I think the comedy, you know, you've got the dog having sex with the the the duck.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: Hilarious.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: Every time.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Every time.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: Of which there are many times.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: And it's not just one dog.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: It's every single dog.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: Four maybe four dogs that do it.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: Which, you know.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: Including, I feel like one of them is actually Adam Sandler's real dog, the the bulldog.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: How do you know who his real dog is?
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: He has he's famous for like having those kind of dogs.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 19:08SPEAKER_03: I think bullshit are quite ugly.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: I don't like those dogs.
- 19:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: This brings me to how I feel about dog movies.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: We'll we will talk about that later.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: It's um being silent.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's talk you can talk about your dog movies later.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: We were talking about this off-air before we got Tamira's got a lot of thoughts.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Um it's it's got a huge cast.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: So you were saying the other thing you were saying, you you don't know the names of people, so like even when I reel them off, you're not gonna.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Which I was saying is a very, very common thing that happens.
- 20:01SPEAKER_03: I'm so happy to hear that because people when I tell them really make me seem like I'm an idiot.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: And now I'm re- I'm second guessing everyone I have around me.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: I think the my feel well, I think it started from um Happy Gilmore, because they're both in that.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: And I feel like that's where it began.
- 20:22SPEAKER_03: What are the ratings on Zoolander pretty high, I guess?
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: Zoolander's pretty well reviewed, I think.
- 20:27SPEAKER_03: The best movie I've ever seen.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: Zoolander's great, but the second one is awful.
- 20:31SPEAKER_03: Oh I didn't know there was a second one.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Zoolander's 64.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: Fine, again.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: I thought it would be a bit higher than that, to be honest.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, me too.
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: I was expecting like 95.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a near-perfect movie.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: I also saw that at the cinema.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: What you're so in black and white.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: I saw that.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: It was the same week that Harry Potter came out.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: That's what I rem that's my memory of it.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: The first one?
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: I didn't watch that in the movies.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: I saw yeah, I saw the the first Harry Potter and Zoolander at the same time.
- 21:17SPEAKER_03: And how did you?
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: How did you feel?
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: I preferred Zoolander.
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: No way.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: I'm not huge on Harry Potter.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: I know it's blasphemous to say.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, let's not talk about that right now.
- 21:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah, there's like I'm already having to defend a misogynist today, so don't push me.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: Wait, you mean you're you're talking about Adam Sandler?
- 21:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: Not Adam Sandler in general, I mean in this movie.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: In this movie, yeah.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, he's a massive misogynist in this movie.
- 21:47SPEAKER_03: Whoever wrote the female parts in this movie.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: Although I do like that the the the the the the wife, she does have kind of an arc, right?
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: To an extent, yeah.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: She does like get her own.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: At least she does leave him at one point.
- 21:59SPEAKER_03: She leaves.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Him and then in the end he's like, I I was a fool.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: True.
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: Does he respect women at the end?
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: Still no.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: No.
- 22:09SPEAKER_03: But at least as a commodity, he's gonna treat her better.
- 22:17SPEAKER_03: So that's silver lining, I think.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: Um yeah.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, like, the base the uh to the people who haven't seen this but are just listening because they've maybe for you, maybe because they just want to listen.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know, but they they no one's listening to this for me.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: That's that's not true.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: We don't know that.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Nobody's listening to this for me.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Um the the premise is that he is an overworked architect.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: He's trying to get his promotion, he thinks he's gonna get it.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: He's not listening, he's taking his whole family for granted and like ignoring all of that kind of stuff.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: But he's not he's not really taking them for granted.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: He's like trapped in that um headspace, which you know, um I'd say a lot of a lot of uh men are.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 23:12SPEAKER_03: Where he's like, Oh, I need to make it so I can be a great husband and a great father and a great son.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: Instead of realizing focus on what's in front of you.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: So he's trying to speed it up to where he makes it to partner so that he has more time to focus on his family.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:27SPEAKER_03: But in the process is rushing past every happy moment with his family and yeah.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: He's got a wife and two kids.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: They're all they all love him a lot, and like he's just missing out.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: He um he goes to for some reason to bed bath and beyond.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: Which is hilarious.
- 23:46unknown: Sure.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: Where he meet he bumps into Christopher Walken, who is uh is this like mad scientist kind of guy, hands him a universal remote.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: Also, don't you think the bit where he goes into the warehouse to get the remote is mocking Harry Potter?
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: I think it is because it like opens the thing and it's like there's the remote, and it's kind of where he like gets the wand.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, it could be.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: I didn't even actually my cousin said that I didn't even like put that together because it's a possibility.
- 24:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I think it makes sense.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: Definitely could be.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to think about it, like I'm trying to remember it now, but like properly.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I do remember.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: You watched it this morning.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: No, I'm remembering Harry Potter.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: Also, like the bit where he walked into the warehouse and he was like, Oh, looks bigger on the outside.
- 24:34SPEAKER_03: So funny.
- 24:35SPEAKER_06: Really good joke.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: It's a good joke.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: He yeah, I mean sorry I interrupted.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: No, no, it's nothing to interrupt.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: It's like it's it's a very basic plot of a movie.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: It's like he he gets a remote, he gets given a unit one of those universal remotes, which were like really big at the time.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Now it's just like nobody.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: The whole thing was about like about like universal remotes and um what was it called?
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: TiVo, which was the thing back then, which was the um like you could fast forward and rewind and pause TV, which is like such a nobody cares about that now.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: I remember it being awesome when it Yeah, when it first came out.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: I mean like, because you know, you used to, I'm sure, I'm sure you used to, you know, you'd have to sit and rewind your your your your videotapes.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: You could watch that.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: That is true.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: I probably had this on video.
- 25:34SPEAKER_03: You know, so I think like we have to respect what people went through at the time.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: But it's just funny seeing like um it's always funny when you see like an older movie trying to do like futuristic high-tech stuff.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: And you and you look at it and it's like, this is so dated, and like This is not how it ended up, Adam.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: It's when you when you see into the future in in in this movie and he's using like the most out of date looking like iPad sort of thing.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: Also, can we speak about the fact that is it Jonah Hill?
- 26:08SPEAKER_03: Yes, is randomly in it for like a scene, and then he becomes a completely different actor just because he loses weight.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: Do you want to know who the other guy is as well?
- 26:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, who is that?
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: It's Dustin Hoffman's son.
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: No, yeah, yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: So like who is Jonah Hill's best friend?
- 26:24SPEAKER_03: No way.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Which is so weird, isn't it?
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: Like he goes from Jonah Hill to this other guy, but they're best friends in real life.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: It doesn't make sense because like so himself, there's a point where he gets fat and he wears a fat suit, which is like Adam Sandler loves a fat suit, we get it.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: Um so why not just give Dustin Hoffman's son a fat suit and then he loses weight, but instead it's like the kid, it's a it's a kid, and then it's Jonah Hill, and then the week after it's Dustin Hoffman's son because he went to the gym.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: I think it's supposed to be a six-year gap, but even in six years, you know.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: He looks like he looks completely different.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: He doesn't even look the statue.
- 27:04SPEAKER_03: And what I see is the same age range.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: Anyways.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: He yeah, it's it's um and for some reason they do that with him, but not the daughter.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: The daughter doesn't matter at all.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's like kind of again that they give the daughter nothing in this.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: Less than nothing.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: She's basically harassed by her own dad.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: I hate that that entire I mean, like when he's about to die and he's running and he's just going, Ben, Ben.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: That's so true.
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: Ben, Ben.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: And freaking like Samantha or whatever her name is.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: She was just there for the time.
- 27:41SPEAKER_03: She was the one who was there the whole time.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: Ben literally came and was like, Samantha's been here for like 52 hours.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: And Adam was like, Alright, who's that bitch?
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: And then he's like literally running after Ben being like, put your family first.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, he might as well like knock Samantha over on his way to run towards Ben.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: It's so yeah, it's really weird.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: Why does he hate Samantha?
- 28:02SPEAKER_03: Does he have a daughter?
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: I think he has multiple daughters.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: No.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: I don't think he has sons.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: As a man with a daughter, how did he not find issue with that movie?
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: Which I'm here to defend.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: One thing I did one thing I One thing I read was that Did he have daughters at that point?
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: This is this is what I was gonna get to.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Like, he one thing that I read was that he announced the bo and announced that he was having a daughter the the week this was coming out.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: See, I'd love to speak to him now about how he feels.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: So let me see.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: As as a father in that moment.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: So he's got one daughter that was born in 2008, and another one that was born May 2006.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: That'll be her.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: So that's why that explains it.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: Is her name NPC?
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: Sadie.
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: Yes, more or less.
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: A real NPC.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Although she's in like every one of his films now.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: Good for her.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: You wanna know what's crazy?
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: She's 19.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: No.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: That means she's so old.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: I was she's older than I was when I saw this movie.
- 29:13SPEAKER_03: That is scary.
- 29:14SPEAKER_03: Do you think um you're gonna name your child Click after this podcast episode?
- 29:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: I thought so.
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: Click Cove.
- 29:24SPEAKER_06: Click Cove, that's actually beautiful.
- 29:26SPEAKER_06: That's an awful name.
- 29:30SPEAKER_03: CC I've always wondered what CeC stands for.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: Now we know.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: That's one of the biggest white people mysteries, you know, when they're they're like, hi, my name is Cece, and at the back of my mind I'm like, You've you've met a Cece?
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: I've never met a Cece.
- 29:50SPEAKER_03: Well, I've seen it on like a TV show.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no go where she's she's not white.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: Definitely before that.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: There must be a character called Cece in France.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: Probably.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: Um!
- 30:06SPEAKER_03: I'm thinking about Full House.
- 30:07SPEAKER_03: I think there's someone called Cece in Full House.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: Well, that's that's uncultured of you.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: I'm not white.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: You wouldn't have aged this well.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: It doesn't look good.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: That looks it looks like a bad show.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: What, Full House?
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it looks like a terrible show.
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: It's okay, it was a comfort show.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:30SPEAKER_03: What's your comfort show?
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Community.
- 30:33SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: But then what was your comfort show for all the years that community wasn't out yet?
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Oh I mean community came out the year I started university.
- 30:44unknown: Yeah.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: It was the perfect time.
- 30:46SPEAKER_03: Before that you just were comfortable.
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: I was I think the office before that.
- 30:52SPEAKER_06: When did that come on?
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: Like 2005.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: The US one I'm talking about.
- 30:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: So it was still on the air around that time, but it was a comfort show.
- 31:04SPEAKER_06: That's true.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I it was also it was also a time where we didn't we didn't have streaming.
- 31:11SPEAKER_06: True.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: So it was just whatever was on was a comfort show.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: That is true.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: I watched a lot of friends back then.
- 31:21SPEAKER_03: Me too.
- 31:21SPEAKER_03: Friends is definitely mine.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: I c I can't go back to it.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Like I've I watched it, I feel like I watched it so much I can't go back to it anymore.
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: I know, I know every episode by heart, but I still I when I'm in a dire, dire situation, I'll watch it.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: Loneliness, for example.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: But you don't you won't watch it alone.
- 31:39SPEAKER_03: I do watch that alone.
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: It's not a movie.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: It's a TV show.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Okay, so you can watch TV alone.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: You can't watch a movie alone.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: Explain the distinction there.
- 31:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's just a longer commitment.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: That's a long time to commit to being alone.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: But some TV shows uh episodes are longer than movies can be.
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: You mean if I like binge?
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: No, you can have like a two-hour episode of a t of like stranger things.
- 32:06SPEAKER_03: I'm not a dude.
- 32:08SPEAKER_03: I don't watch that kind of stuff.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: My mom, this is really funny.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: This is really funny.
- 32:14SPEAKER_03: No.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: Terrible to say that before saying something.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: Um it could be a funny story.
- 32:21SPEAKER_03: She has to uh when she starts a new TV show, watch the last episode first.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: I that would really stress me out.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: If I saw someone doing that.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: The modern day equivalent of reading the last page of a book first.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which also stresses me out.
- 32:34SPEAKER_03: It stresses her out to not know what happens at the end.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: So she cannot so can she not start a show until it's completely over?
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: I guess yeah.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: That's that's sad.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, that isn't oh that's so you're all these people talking about stuff that oh you gotta see this show.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: I I will do it in five years.
- 32:55SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: I haven't I guess no, like if the season's out, she just has to watch the last episode of the season.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: That's less bad, but no, I I I hate being spoiled on on movies and TV.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it really bothers me.
- 33:12SPEAKER_03: I don't really care about it.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: It really bothers me because then I'm like, oh well, I can't enjoy it now.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: Now I know what's coming.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: My grandma, so she'll like, we'll watch movies with her, and then um a lot of Bollywood.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: Um, and she she's like, we always tell her, like, don't tell us what happens.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: She's seen it.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: Like, I won't, I won't.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: And then like a sad scene will happen, and then we'll be crying.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: She's like, Don't cry.
- 33:36SPEAKER_03: She's gonna come back to life.
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: We're like, grandma.
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: We told you.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, given it's a Bollywood movie, it's very realistic.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: It's just an estimate.
- 33:48SPEAKER_03: Well, because I grew up in Germany and they have a um weirdly You grew up in Germany.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I grew up in Germany.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that.
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: And every Thursday, the German TV, because we had German TV, yeah, uh, would dub a Bollywood movie.
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: So there's actually loads of Bollywood, so we just always watch Bollywood movies.
- 34:03SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: Dubbed in German.
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: Okay, this is being cut anyway.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: No, that might not be cut.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: I'm keeping just that in.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: It's gonna make no sense.
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: I learned all my German from TV.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: From T oh, I've heard I've actually heard like people do that all the time though.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: Well, with English at least.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: But you learned all your German from TV.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: I used to watch a lot of SpongeBob in German, and like I cannot watch Spongebob in English, it makes me feel sick.
- 34:32SPEAKER_03: I'm like strong.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: I the first time I went to Germany, we turned on the TV there and The Simpsons was on and it was dubbed into German, and it was so funny.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: We could not stop laughing at Homer's voice.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: It was so deep.
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: They dub everything.
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: It was so deep.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: I think it's super weird when they like don't dub things, you know?
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: Like countries, because I think there are some countries where they don't dub things, they just have like subtitles.
- 34:59SPEAKER_03: And it's like, come on, have some fun.
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: Put your own twist on it, you know.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: I went to um Disneyland in Japan and they they had a Japanese stitch, and it was it was the weirdest thing I've ever heard in my life.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 35:15SPEAKER_03: What was Disneyland Japan like?
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: That sounds awesome.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: Pretty much the same thing.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna lie, it was pretty much the same.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: Except that stitch was Japanese.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like obviously there was like things like that, but other than that, it was just the same stuff.
- 35:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's fair.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: There's there's a there is a thing called Disney Sea, which has like slightly different rides, but they're like you know, 50 la that movie 50,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: 20,000, whatever it's called.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: It's a really, really old it's like a book and then like a movie, but it's really old and it's still a ride there.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: So that's the kind of level you're working with.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: But like everything else is is the same.
- 35:57unknown: Interesting.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: If you go to like the Disneyland, the main park, it's exactly the same.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's it's so funny to hear Stitch dubbed.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: I love dubbing.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: There's a lot of um they uh they dubbed um they'll dub things in Iran, and I remember they dubbed like the the Lion King.
- 36:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: But they gave everyone like super regional accents.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: Oh imagine like you have Lion King, but then like Pumba's like scouse and like I would love that.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: So funny.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: I would absolutely love that.
- 36:34SPEAKER_03: I I love it so much, yeah.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: Oh god, they should do like a a British dub of the Lion King now.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: There is a YouTube series of Harry Potter in German, um, which is all dubed in German, but says completely different stuff.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: So it's like I don't know what that's like the wrong dub.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: It's the wrong dub.
- 36:55SPEAKER_03: And it's like really messed up shit.
- 36:57SPEAKER_03: Like it's like really, really messed up, but it's hilarious.
- 37:00SPEAKER_03: And they did like all of the Harry Potter movies, and we watched all of them as a kid.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: But it's like like Did you think that was what it was the real thing?
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: No, because I'd seen it.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: Okay, but it's really funny.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: I would learn German just for that.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: I think if you speak German, you need to watch.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: I learned German for year seven and year eight, and I forgot all of it.
- 37:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna lambass German publicly, but we had to learn a big fan of the language.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: I went to a school where we had to learn like multiple languages, and like we were doing too many at the same time, and it's just impossible to remember anything.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: How many languages do you have to learn?
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: Uh so year actually it was year seven to nine.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: We learned French and German.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: Then French was kept on and un until year eleven, and also uh started learning Spanish in year nine.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: And then every two weeks we would have a Japanese lesson in year nine as well.
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: No way.
- 38:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:00SPEAKER_03: What?
- 38:00SPEAKER_03: Every two weeks?
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: How's that gonna work?
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: It didn't work.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: We didn't learn anything.
- 38:04SPEAKER_03: It was such a useless program.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: It was so useless, yeah.
- 38:08SPEAKER_03: Wait, do you speak Greek?
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: No, I'd like I know a few words, but have you done my Big Fat Greek wedding?
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: What are the readings on that?
- 38:14SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: That's really highly rated.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: I would assume so.
- 38:17SPEAKER_03: It's an excellent piece of work.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: It's great.
- 38:19SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: It's so accurate.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: I do think we lived through like the golden era of of film.
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: Then I I'd say like the nine nineties movies are my favorite movies.
- 38:30SPEAKER_03: Definitely.
- 38:30SPEAKER_03: 90s, early 2000s.
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: I'd say up to 2006.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: This isn't it peaked at click and then it just went downhill.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: Um my beef at Greek wedding is 76%.
- 38:44SPEAKER_03: That's low.
- 38:45SPEAKER_03: That should be 99.
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: But wait, let me look at 2 and 3.
- 38:50SPEAKER_03: I love 2 and 3.
- 38:52SPEAKER_03: I just want to see them again.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: What do you think of 2 is rated?
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: I can see you looking.
- 38:58SPEAKER_03: Don't say below 40, because I would have picked that.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: 28.
- 39:04SPEAKER_06: No.
- 39:08SPEAKER_06: I can't believe I wasted my life on Click.
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: I d I would not have been I would I'd much rather watch Click than my Figgle Be Wedding 2.
- 39:16SPEAKER_06: Why?
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: Because it's not good.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: At least Click is enjoyable.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: 3 has 31%.
- 39:24SPEAKER_06: Oh, that was higher.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I thought three was gonna be like 10%.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: No, I like three.
- 39:30SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna be honest with you, I remember three better than two, because I don't remember what happened in two.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: Two is the one what I can't even remember two actually myself.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: I just remember not liking it when it came out.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: But one one is great.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, one is one is a classic and like that one is I think one is still it might I don't know if it is still, but there was a point where it was like the highest grossing independent film of all time.
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: That's actually really beautiful.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: It it's I didn't know it was an independent film.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: It's it made like an insane amount of money.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: No way.
- 40:07SPEAKER_03: Imagine how excited they must have been.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: And she she got like she she's someone is in I find her really interesting because she like came into this from nothing, got got that movie made, through Tom Hanks.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: Tom Hanks produced it.
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: No way.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: Him and his wife, uh Rita Wilson.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: Reta Wilson?
- 40:31SPEAKER_03: How did she swing that?
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: Was that?
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: How did did she know him or what?
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: I think wait, what was it?
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: It was something to do with like she had a like a one-woman show that she was doing, and then I think they saw her in it and were like, Oh, let's work with you.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: But then she got like she did so well from there, and then she just like dropped off the face of the earth.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: Like nothing she didn't make anything after that, like other than like she'll come she'll pop off of like once every ten years to make one of these.
- 41:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because why would you?
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: Go live your best life.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, I guess.
- 41:06SPEAKER_03: She like What is she doing now?
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: Wait, what's your favourite movie?
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: My favourite movie.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: I like Do the Right Thing.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: Which is a uh like a film from Weirdly enough, the year I was born.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: Came out in 1989.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: It's it's a very um so it's set on it's set on the hottest day of the year in Brooklyn.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: And it's all to do with like the this impending stuff around um like the black neighborhood in Brooklyn and then this like Italian pizzeria there and the like the tension that's building there with like the race, all the stuff to do with race there.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: And it's so well made.
- 41:54SPEAKER_03: That's so interesting.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: I'll watch it.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: It's like it really builds and builds and builds, and you can feel and because it's shot, it's also shot in like on this extremely hot summer, so like you can really feel the heat of that of the the movie, and then it really adds to the tension.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: So it's just it's just so well shot.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: It's made by Spike Lee.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you know him.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: No.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know anyone.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: Uh so it's like one of the only times you also see him acting in one of the movies as well, and he's like the lead actor in it, but like now he doesn't act in anything.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'll check it out.
- 42:23SPEAKER_03: That sounds so good.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's really what it's really good.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: And you'll you'll probably there's people in it you will recognise, but like you yeah, it's just well but it's great, but like so is click's not click, can't surely can't be your favorite movie.
- 42:38SPEAKER_03: It's not my favourite movie.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, because you asked what my favorite movie was.
- 42:42SPEAKER_06: I was just curious.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: The way you said it was like click was your favorite movie.
- 42:50SPEAKER_02: I'm really committing to this bit.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: What is it like how many times have you seen Click?
- 42:56SPEAKER_03: Twice.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: What?
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: Once today and then once before when you were nine.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: What made you pick it?
- 43:08SPEAKER_05: I thought it was a movie you loved.
- 43:14SPEAKER_06: I thought I had to pretend to love it.
- 43:17SPEAKER_06: But it's funny.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: You picked so many different movies, and this was one of them.
- 43:32SPEAKER_03: Because um well, obviously at this point I can say that originally I was gonna um the one I'd picked was don't mess with the Zohan.
- 43:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: Uh which is another Adam Sandler movie, which I think comedically incredible, politically difficult to defend at this current time.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: And and probably like difficult to defend back then.
- 43:58SPEAKER_03: Probably forever difficult.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: To defend, but particularly now.
- 44:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, particularly now.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: Um, I'd go as far as to say that I don't I know it's propaganda.
- 44:09SPEAKER_03: Does it make them look good?
- 44:11SPEAKER_03: I don't think so, but I do think it's a funny, it's a funny movie.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: Um uh people like people seem to love or hate that movie.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: I I don't even know if it's meant to be.
- 44:22SPEAKER_03: I think like the reason that people a lot of people don't like it, I understand that.
- 44:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: And I don't really know what they were trying to achieve by it.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: I don't even know who they are.
- 44:33SPEAKER_03: Like whoever's Adam Sandler.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: Adam Sandler.
- 44:36SPEAKER_03: I don't know why it's so political.
- 44:38SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 44:40SPEAKER_03: Um, but at the same time, it's not at all political.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: So it's like kind of confusing.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: Like, why did you even introduce that element of it?
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: Because he could have just been like a general spy.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:50SPEAKER_03: Who wanted to be a hairdresser.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: That in itself, hilarious.
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: Don't know why all the other layers were applied.
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: There's some there's always some stuff where you're like in in movies where you're like, why is that there?
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: But really funny, I think, as a movie.
- 45:06SPEAKER_03: Interesting.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: Well, if I was gonna say one thing I find really interesting is like every person who's come on here to defend another Adam Sandler movie brings up you don't mess with the Zohan as like one that they love.
- 45:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because it's it's funny.
- 45:17SPEAKER_03: It's so funny, it's like ridiculous.
- 45:19SPEAKER_03: And like it's one of those that has like aged so poorly.
- 45:22SPEAKER_03: Like, I feel like click has aged poorly in a way that is like not it's like it's aged poorly, but not so poorly it would be funny.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: No, you can still watch it and enjoy it.
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: But don't mess with the Zohan has aged so badly that it's like even funnier.
- 45:37SPEAKER_03: Do you know what I mean?
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's but you're like almost laughing at at it, but not what it was not not for the reasons it wants you to laugh at it.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: You're laughing at it for like the insanity of it.
- 45:49SPEAKER_03: Exactly, exactly.
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: But um so I was gonna do that, but then obviously no.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: So then I um and then you picked another movie.
- 45:57SPEAKER_03: Then I picked another movie, and then last night when I was watching Wait, we can we can say it.
- 46:01SPEAKER_03: Oh, it was my favorite Martian, which I used to have on video.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: Oh, I hadn't seen it since then.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: Okay, since the 90s.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, like, if you have seen it and you do like my favorite Martian, please comment and let me know.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: Zilla, I will let Samara know.
- 46:20SPEAKER_01: Because you think that nobody will know what it is.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: That was your concern.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Because I was watching it last night and then my flatmates and my cousin, you know, all the people I keep around me to to ward off loneliness.
- 46:31SPEAKER_03: Um, they all came in and they were like, what are you doing?
- 46:34SPEAKER_03: You can't talk about this on a podcast.
- 46:36SPEAKER_03: No one's gonna know about it.
- 46:37SPEAKER_03: No one knows this movie.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: So I was like, oh I think.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: This is where I disagree.
- 46:40SPEAKER_01: Like I've I've not seen it, but I I I'm still aware of it.
- 46:43SPEAKER_03: Well, they made it sound like no one knows what it is.
- 46:45SPEAKER_03: So they were like, you should switch.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: And then we were going through and then we were looking at all the ratings, and then click was one of them, and I was like, oh hell, I love Click.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: So that's I was so happy you picked it because I was like I was like, yes, I I can talk about a movie I love.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: And you know then I went and re-watched it.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh it's it's it's good, but it it's like there are there are many good moments in it, but again, like all the dramatic stuff are for me, it's the stuff I loved and the comedic stuff.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: I was like, this doesn't hold up anymore.
- 47:16SPEAKER_03: But are we defending it or looking at it as a movie or as a comedy?
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: Because I get that like more comedian, so but does it have to be But it's it's a comedy movie, yeah.
- 47:28SPEAKER_03: But some of them I you know what I was like good on you for putting so much heart into a comedy movie.
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: Like you really put yourself out there.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's one thing I will say I'm saying the movies do well, is put the heart into the movies.
- 47:44SPEAKER_01: Like we like we were saying about 50 first days, yeah, it's great.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: And I wouldn't think of that as a comedy.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: It's a rom com.
- 47:53SPEAKER_03: But it's not funny.
- 47:55SPEAKER_06: It's just moving.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: It's less funny than this, but it's still it's still a comedy.
- 48:03SPEAKER_03: I guess I never thought about it as a comedy.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: Also, The Wedding Singer, another one of the two of them.
- 48:11SPEAKER_03: Who's the wedding singer?
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.
- 48:14SPEAKER_01: Have you not seen The Wedding Singer?
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: No, you have to go and watch that now.
- 48:17SPEAKER_03: I have not seen almost any movie ever.
- 48:21SPEAKER_03: I've seen like because you know I don't watch movies alone, so it really limits the amount of movies I can watch.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: But that makes it even funnier.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: The movie, the movie you originally like the very first movie you suggested, which I've never even heard of.
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, Babe in Toyland.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which I thought was it sounded like you were just making a movie up.
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: It's because my aunt used to have that on uh VCR, and it was the only movie they had.
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: So it was like I had an aunt and an uncle, and we would spend all of the summer at at either of their houses.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:54SPEAKER_03: They lived like a a road apart, so we'd be at their houses in the summer.
- 48:57SPEAKER_03: One of them had babe in toyland, and one of them had holes.
- 49:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 49:00SPEAKER_03: Um and so and we didn't that was all so we'd either go watch that and then we'd go over and watch the other one, then we'd go over and watch that.
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: So those were the two movies I watched.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: That makes way my entire chapter.
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: Do you know the hasn't aged well though?
- 49:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, is it not?
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: As in isn't Shia LaBeouf.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, personally, he he's his stuff, him as a person has not aged well.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: But like the movie.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: I just haven't aged.
- 49:35SPEAKER_03: But the movie, yeah, really good movie.
- 49:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Do you know the do you know there's um the guy that made Donnie Darko wrote this?
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: I don't know anything or anyone.
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter, like that's the the least important part of it.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: He wrote um a script of this origin a script of Hull's originally, where it's a very dark adult, more like it's it's meant for like adults.
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, like prisoners.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: Because aren't they like in the world?
- 50:06SPEAKER_01: No, it's it's as in like they're kids still, but like the movie is really dark.
- 50:09SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: And apparently it was like an amazing script, but then Disney got a hold of it.
- 50:14SPEAKER_03: No way.
- 50:15SPEAKER_01: And they were like, we want to make it a kids movie.
- 50:17SPEAKER_03: That's so interesting.
- 50:20SPEAKER_03: It was kind of dark still, wasn't it?
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:22SPEAKER_01: So I think they took elements of it, but yeah, they had to really tone it down.
- 50:29SPEAKER_01: But it's I really want to see like a a version of it like that.
- 50:33SPEAKER_01: I think that would be so good.
- 50:34SPEAKER_03: We should get our hands on the script.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: It's out there, it's online.
- 50:37SPEAKER_01: It used to be, but at least like back in the day it used to be online.
- 50:40SPEAKER_03: We can do next fringe.
- 50:41SPEAKER_03: Can we do a reading at react one woman show of the dark holes?
- 50:50SPEAKER_06: Dark holes.
- 51:00SPEAKER_05: Oh no.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: That would you know that would get a lot of people in.
- 51:05SPEAKER_02: I'd be like surprised.
- 51:07SPEAKER_02: This is actually a really dark version of the Disney movie all strap in.
- 51:14SPEAKER_05: You can't say strap in as well.
- 51:21SPEAKER_05: Oh man.
- 51:23SPEAKER_01: I'm about to be a dad.
- 51:24SPEAKER_01: I can't be a dad.
- 51:26SPEAKER_06: You're giving Adam Sandler as a dad.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: Um Okay, so Oh, I forgot.
- 51:35SPEAKER_03: I was gonna say another thing that makes Click epic.
- 51:38SPEAKER_03: Jennifer Coolidge.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: Yes, I forgot she was in this.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: I fully forgot she was in this.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: And as soon as she popped off, I was like, yes, I'm so glad because I know this is gonna be funny, whatever whatever happens.
- 51:49SPEAKER_03: Literally, iconic.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: Every time she's in something, it's just like she steals the the scene.
- 51:56SPEAKER_03: My my cousin was like, Oh, can you believe she's a Republican?
- 51:58SPEAKER_03: I was like, Yeah.
- 52:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah, that's what did you think was going on?
- 52:04SPEAKER_01: It's disappointing, but it's expected.
- 52:08SPEAKER_01: It's disappointing because I still like her stuff.
- 52:11SPEAKER_03: But like, I don't think she ever gave us an inkling that she wouldn't be.
- 52:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:16SPEAKER_03: We just assumed that because we think she's a legend.
- 52:18SPEAKER_03: Like, we just imposed that on it.
- 52:20SPEAKER_01: I gotta be honest, I didn't really think about what her politics were.
- 52:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because why would you?
- 52:24SPEAKER_01: Also, Adam Sandler's a Republican, so there you go.
- 52:27SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 52:28SPEAKER_01: That's how they met.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: The whole Adam Sand Adam Sandler and like all of his friends.
- 52:36SPEAKER_01: They're all like they're all like right leaning.
- 52:40SPEAKER_03: Who are his friends?
- 52:41SPEAKER_03: Ben Stiller.
- 52:43SPEAKER_03: The guy from American Pie that looks like him.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: The young one, the one who has sex with.
- 52:48SPEAKER_01: Jason Biggs.
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:50SPEAKER_01: Jennifer Coolidge, also in American Pie.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: Um why won't he be his friend?
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: Because he because he looks like him.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: Um, uh it's Kevin James, uh Rob Schneider who's in this.
- 53:08SPEAKER_01: In the Okay, so that is the mic.
- 53:10SPEAKER_03: Rob Schneider is in this?
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I'll I'll keep I want you to guess who Rob Schneider is in this movie.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: See if you can guess who he is.
- 53:18SPEAKER_03: Can you give me a hint?
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: Near the beginning.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: He's in he doesn't look like himself.
- 53:27SPEAKER_03: I don't even know who Rob Schneider is.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: He's in brown oh, okay.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: He's in brown face.
- 53:33SPEAKER_03: In the Arab thing.
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:36SPEAKER_03: Because when we watched that, we were like, those are are those brown people.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: And I googled it.
- 53:40SPEAKER_03: No, and it said, like, oh yeah, the cast is brown people, but that that was white people in brown face.
- 53:45SPEAKER_01: It was Rob Schneider, who is um like half white, half Filipino.
- 53:50SPEAKER_03: No way.
- 53:51SPEAKER_03: Hilarious.
- 53:52SPEAKER_03: They're back up.
- 53:54SPEAKER_03: That whole scene, like, what's going on there?
- 53:57SPEAKER_01: No, that is not a good scene.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: That's that's that's the first instance when I was like, oh no, oh no, where are we going with this movie now?
- 54:07SPEAKER_03: That was that was also giving Zohan.
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that's the vibes of it.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: It's it's it again, like they give him like this giant nose, they put him in brown face, they I knew it.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: I looked at I was like, there's something weird going on.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: They give him a funny name as well.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: In fact, they don't even give him a funny name.
- 54:25SPEAKER_02: Habibi?
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like they they don't even give him a funny name.
- 54:27SPEAKER_01: Habibu.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: But like they none of them can get the name right.
- 54:32SPEAKER_03: You just know that there are only right white people writing on that entire movie.
- 54:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 54:36SPEAKER_03: And the Japanese bit also.
- 54:38SPEAKER_01: The Japanese bit, yeah, that's weird.
- 54:41SPEAKER_03: The sexual harassment training bit.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 54:46unknown: I don't even remember that.
- 54:47SPEAKER_01: Block that out.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: Um, it's a bad move uh bad like for Oh my god.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: I can't remember I can't even believe some of the stuff in this one.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: But this isn't even like the worst of of like those kind of movies, these kind of movies.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: So again, like you said, like Zohan was was way worse for it.
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:10SPEAKER_01: Um the other ones that he did around this time are like really offensive.
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: Um Do you remember you I don't think you'll remember it because you because you haven't seen so many you haven't seen movies, but like there's a movie called That's My Boy with him and Andy Sandberg.
- 55:33SPEAKER_03: No.
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: It came out in like 2012, so this is put in the context of when it came out.
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: It's about he has sex with uh he's 13 and he has sex with his teacher.
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: And then they have a child.
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: What?
- 55:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's the that's the this is a comedy movie.
- 55:49SPEAKER_03: Isn't that like statutory really?
- 55:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, she goes to jail for it, I believe.
- 55:53SPEAKER_03: What?
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: I think she might have him in jail.
- 55:57SPEAKER_06: No.
- 55:57SPEAKER_06: I think that's the What?
- 56:01SPEAKER_06: That's hilarious.
- 56:03SPEAKER_01: Um and then there's Jack.
- 56:04SPEAKER_03: That's funny, but Jack and Jewel did that.
- 56:06SPEAKER_01: Jack which is very problematic.
- 56:08SPEAKER_03: I haven't seen that either.
- 56:09SPEAKER_01: Jack and Jewel is terrible.
- 56:11SPEAKER_01: That's that's the worst Adam Sandler movie.
- 56:14SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 56:15SPEAKER_01: It's so offensive.
- 56:16SPEAKER_01: It's so offensively bad.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: What's that?
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: Who's it offensive to?
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: To everyone.
- 56:21SPEAKER_01: It offends literally like every single thing you could think of is like in it.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: But these can be the most offensive movies.
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: I mean they're not the most offensive movie.
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: Okay, so Jack and Jill has 3%, just to give you context.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: 3%.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: 3%.
- 56:34SPEAKER_01: And from audience, it's got 36.
- 56:38SPEAKER_06: That's so funny.
- 56:40SPEAKER_01: It's it's a bad one.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: Like that that that was um sorry, um Martin Obano defended it on it.
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, sorry man, this is not a good movie.
- 56:54SPEAKER_03: How's the hangover rated?
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: First one's highly rated, the second two are not.
- 56:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's fair.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: Which is expected.
- 57:01SPEAKER_01: That makes sense.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: The second one is Hangover is great, although I haven't seen it in a long time.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: So again, like it might not be great still.
- 57:11SPEAKER_01: Um second one, I remember not liking, and then the third one I remember like actively just hating.
- 57:19SPEAKER_03: I don't remember what happens in the third one.
- 57:21SPEAKER_01: The third one is basically like a rehashing of the first one.
- 57:24SPEAKER_01: It's just basically the same thing.
- 57:26SPEAKER_03: It's like the Friends episodes, whenever they run out of content, they just do like a flashback episode.
- 57:30SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 57:31SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 57:33SPEAKER_01: That's when they that was because they had to do so So th this was a thing back in like TV back in the days where they didn't they had to make like an entire season over 22 to 24 episodes, but they would only get a certain budget for the entire season.
- 57:47SPEAKER_02: Oh really?
- 57:48SPEAKER_01: So what they would do is they would have a flashback episode to make it a lot cheaper, and then they could make put a bigger budget onto one of the other episodes.
- 57:56SPEAKER_03: Interesting.
- 57:58SPEAKER_01: Learn that from community.
- 58:02SPEAKER_03: I love community.
- 58:05SPEAKER_06: That's crazy.
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: But yeah, they they they they would run out of budget essentially, so like they would have to do so.
- 58:10SPEAKER_01: That's why you would see flashback episodes, and then that's why we would also see episodes all set in one room.
- 58:17SPEAKER_01: Because those are really cheap to make.
- 58:20SPEAKER_01: So friends did it a lot where they would have all episodes like in one of the apartments or something like that, or you know.
- 58:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 58:29SPEAKER_06: That's true.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:35SPEAKER_01: But yeah, okay, so to wrap up click, because yeah, we've been going we've been talking for uh over an hour and we don't really like I just did a fast forward.
- 58:44SPEAKER_03: That's a wrap to click.
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: I I thought I I could see you out of the corner of my eye and I thought you were looking at your watch.
- 58:54SPEAKER_06: Skip.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: Um to wrap up click.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: So saying now now you've said that you've only seen it twice, it completely changes everything.
- 59:03SPEAKER_03: How many times?
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: I never re-watch a movie though.
- 59:06SPEAKER_03: Didn't know that about me.
- 59:07SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 59:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 59:08SPEAKER_01: You don't even watch movies.
- 59:10SPEAKER_03: And when I do, I'm not watching it again.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: So you this must be good.
- 59:17SPEAKER_01: Thank you for coming on.
- 59:19SPEAKER_02: Thank you for having me.
- 59:20SPEAKER_02: We're a roller coaster.
- 59:25SPEAKER_01: How can how can uh how can listeners find you, how can the audience find you online?
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: Uh do you have anything you'd like to promote?
- 59:32SPEAKER_03: Um my my Instagram is at Samirabankscomedy, so you can follow me on there.
- 59:37SPEAKER_03: And um, I don't have anything to promote other than my upcoming show.
- 59:42SPEAKER_03: Which is Dark Halls.
- 59:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, even a real show.
- 59:46SPEAKER_03: Oh, I don't have a real show.
- 59:48SPEAKER_03: But hey, add me on Instagram and send me ideas of what you think I should do with my life.
- 59:57SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 59:58SPEAKER_01: That's the end of the episode.
