- 1:17Speaker 1: OK, let's start out with the tuna fishing offshore.
- 1:21Speaker 1: We did have some boats get out yesterday and we had an international clientele actually out there doing it my old friend Ned Ashby, on the sea breeze, actually my alma mater of a boat.
- 1:31Speaker 1: They were out there and they had people from Taiwan, from Japan and from other countries that are here to catch these big bluefin tuna.
- 1:40Speaker 1: They don't give a hoot about killing one and the season is closed for that anyway, but they do.
- 1:45Speaker 1: They really do enjoy going out there and competing to release these three, four, five, 600 pound tuna.
- 1:50Speaker 1: That's exactly what they're doing.
- 1:52Speaker 1: That's mostly what I heard about.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I did hear of a few yellowfin's and the catches in the fleet was very small.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Did not hear anything out of Hatteras as far as offshore fishing went yesterday, but that doesn't mean that they've been having the bluefin's as well.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So we'll have to keep looking down that way.
- 2:05Speaker 1: But it did not hear of a report and did not see it on any of the websites or at any of the marinas.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Now there was some back country fishing down in Hatteras way.
- 2:15Speaker 1: The drum fishing has been very good for the puppy drums back of ochre, coke and Hatteras.
- 2:19Speaker 1: These are fish that are in the slot size.
- 2:22Speaker 1: So there are either people, folks enjoying that a whole lot and been going on day after day after day.
- 2:27Speaker 1: The weather got a little bit better yesterday for that kind of fishing.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Other than that, the drum down on the lower sound back of our ochre coke and Hatteras, we had a really good speckled trout bite on the upper Pamlico sound and the western Pamlico.
- 2:42Speaker 1: So that rim, that Northwest rim, was where a lot of the action is.
- 2:46Speaker 1: A lot of that is where we have these creeks that run up off the sound and they run up to our inshore waters, things like that.
- 2:53Speaker 1: But those have been popular spots for a really good speckled trout bite and the speckled trout are getting bigger as well.
- 2:59Speaker 1: So we got puppy drum Eastern Pamlico, we got speckled trout Northwestern Pamlicos.
- 3:05Speaker 1: That's kind of what's going on with all that activity.
- 3:08Speaker 1: We had a few puppy drum in the surf as well.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Not a lot, but a few puppy drum in the last few days as the weather has gotten a little bit prettier Still sharks and skates and things of that nature, not seeing much.
- 3:19Speaker 1: There's been a few speckled trout caught but not a whole lot on the beat, and that leaves us with our inshore inland freshwater, in other words fishing report, and a decent bite on the crappie.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yesterday, when it warmed up and it got a little bit sunny, they started biting again.
- 3:33Speaker 1: To me I'm not a freshwater expert but man.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Looking towards Friday, when we get close to 80 degrees, I think the crappie bite will be on.
- 3:40Speaker 1: So there is things to go fishing for.
- 3:42Speaker 1: You gotta go out there and wet a line, get everything good to go.
- 3:45Speaker 1: We're getting ready to break loose with some great summertime fishing.
- 3:48Speaker 1: We can only hope, especially in regard to speckled trout, that it's as good as it was last year.
