- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to another episode of Outspoken. Now, is
- 0:07Speaker 1: it just me or is every man and his dog
- 0:10Speaker 1: in Europe at the moment? Everyone in my feed seems
- 0:13Speaker 1: to be there and one of our best friends is
- 0:14Speaker 1: there at the moment. And it's an odd one because
- 0:17Speaker 1: I almost live for his post. I always get uploaded
- 0:20Speaker 1: in the evening and I'm like, oh my God, it
- 0:22Speaker 1: looks so great. And I've, I said to him before
- 0:24Speaker 1: he left, please put a lot on Instagram. But then
- 0:28Speaker 1: At the same time, I'm like, fuck you. Like, it
- 0:30Speaker 1: looks so nice, especially when it's so cold. It's raining
- 0:33Speaker 1: at the moment, as you can probably hear. I am
- 0:36Speaker 1: planning a honeymoon, though. I think his trip is inspiring
- 0:39Speaker 1: me to actually get my ass into gear and book
- 0:42Speaker 1: my honeymoon, which is not in Europe. Well, I laughed
- 0:45Speaker 1: because his TikTok popped up and I need to play
- 0:48Speaker 1: it for you. You don't need to have promo of
- 0:50Speaker 1: your friends who are on vacation in Europe right now
- 0:52Speaker 1: because they're all constipated, you know? So it's like, it's
- 0:56Speaker 1: not that great.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sure it's fine.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I would go.
- 0:59Speaker 3: But they're all constant.
- 1:01Speaker 2: You have to remember, find comfort in that.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I do find comfort in that. I think whenever you
- 1:06Speaker 1: travel overseas, there is always a level of constipation that
- 1:09Speaker 1: hits you. It doesn't matter... what part of the world
- 1:12Speaker 1: you travel to, it's because you are out of your
- 1:14Speaker 1: comfort zone. And I think that that aeroplane trip with
- 1:18Speaker 1: the horrible plane food really fucks you over. There were
- 1:20Speaker 1: so many people in the comments saying, oh my God,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I'm only just doing my first holiday poo in Spain
- 1:26Speaker 1: at the moment listening to this. Oh, that's not good
- 1:29Speaker 1: if they're in Spain because at the moment some of
- 1:31Speaker 1: the locals are protesting about the level of tourists there
- 1:35Speaker 1: because they're saying that they are increasing the the cost
- 1:38Speaker 1: of everything, the cost of living is already so high there.
- 1:41Speaker 1: So they've taken things into their own hands and they've
- 1:43Speaker 1: been getting water pistols and they've been spraying people they
- 1:46Speaker 1: think are foreigners at restaurants. Oh, that would piss me
- 1:49Speaker 1: off so much. Particularly if you're, you know, you see
- 1:52Speaker 1: all of these girls who have their perfect Euro summer outfits.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Like I know you didn't really buy into that when
- 1:59Speaker 1: you went there, but some people are so obsessed with
- 2:01Speaker 1: getting the right holiday photo in Europe. I know that
- 2:06Speaker 1: you weren't. Well, I look at some of these people's
- 2:10Speaker 1: photos and I think you look lovely there. I'm just
- 2:12Speaker 1: saying you didn't get caught up in it. But what
- 2:13Speaker 1: I'm saying is some of these people would only go
- 2:17Speaker 1: out with the intention of taking a photo for Instagram
- 2:20Speaker 1: and looking perfect. And when Dale and I were over
- 2:24Speaker 1: in Europe in 2019, we went with the intention of
- 2:27Speaker 1: actually going out and seeing things and looking at the historical. Yeah, exactly.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And I don't understand how these people manage to look
- 2:34Speaker 1: so good. I was traipsing around in like sand shoes, tights,
- 2:38Speaker 1: like you are sweating so much. You know, you do
- 2:40Speaker 1: your hair. I'm like, why did you wear tights in Europe?
- 2:43Speaker 2: Oh, sorry.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I said shorts. It was mainly shorts, but yeah, sorry.
- 2:46Speaker 1: You wear tights everywhere though. So I feel like you were.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I'm thinking of when we went to the Vatican because
- 2:51Speaker 1: you had to have your like under your knees covered.
- 2:54Speaker 1: And I don't understand because at the start of the day,
- 2:55Speaker 1: I would try and do my hair nicely thinking, okay,
- 2:57Speaker 1: we might get a photo or something. By the middle
- 3:01Speaker 1: of the day, you're dripping in sweat. Yeah, the humidity
- 3:05Speaker 1: and the heat is a hard one to get a photo.
- 3:07Speaker 1: As I touched on, I am planning my honeymoon finally.
- 3:11Speaker 1: And I'll probably change by the end of the week,
- 3:14Speaker 1: but I'm thinking we might go to Fiji. So if
- 3:16Speaker 1: there's anyone listening who has been to Fiji before, please
- 3:20Speaker 1: let me know what island you stayed on. Where's good
- 3:22Speaker 1: places to eat? I need some inspiration, but I need
- 3:25Speaker 1: to act quickly because I want to go in August
- 3:29Speaker 1: or September because any later and apparently they're cyclones. So
- 3:32Speaker 1: I don't know, that freaks me out.
- 3:34Speaker 2: But I just want to clarify because I really value
- 3:37Speaker 2: being fully transparent where I can.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Abbey Chatfield has been forced to admit she accepted money
- 3:43Speaker 1: for a stage pap shot shortly after appearing on The Bachelor.
- 3:47Speaker 1: The admission came after the popular media personality called out
- 3:50Speaker 1: the paparazzi for making a career out of following her
- 3:53Speaker 1: on walks. She also denied setting up a recent pap
- 3:57Speaker 1: shot with her new boyfriend, Peking Duck singer Adam Hyde. Now, Sophie,
- 4:01Speaker 1: can you tell us about these recent pap shots? Yeah,
- 4:04Speaker 1: so last week, Abby was papped on a dog walk
- 4:07Speaker 1: with Adam. And in the photos, she was wearing a
- 4:09Speaker 1: track suit with no makeup on, She also had her
- 4:13Speaker 1: two Cocker Spaniels on a lead, but they were tied
- 4:16Speaker 1: around her waist, so she was being pulled in every direction.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Whilst her boyfriend, Adam, looked really out of place, so
- 4:22Speaker 1: he was wearing black jeans and a leather jacket. Now,
- 4:25Speaker 1: corners of the internet began to speculate if the couple
- 4:29Speaker 1: set up these photos, with people questioning why Adam would
- 4:33Speaker 1: be in his rock star getup whilst on a casual
- 4:35Speaker 1: dog walk. Now, Abby responded on her TikTok saying this.
- 4:40Speaker 2: This is so fucking funny. Because why the fuck would
- 4:42Speaker 2: I call the paparazzi on myself to video me walking
- 4:46Speaker 2: in a dirty track suit on a Tuesday morning without
- 4:49Speaker 2: makeup on while Adam's in a leather jacket after going
- 4:53Speaker 2: on the morning show? Like, what do I get from that?
- 4:57Speaker 2: If I was going to call paps on myself, I'd
- 4:59Speaker 2: call paps on myself for something interesting. But unfortunately, I
- 5:03Speaker 2: don't have anything interesting going on in my day-to-day life.
- 5:06Speaker 2: All I do is hang out at the dog park
- 5:08Speaker 2: with my dogs. and walk to that cafe to get
- 5:11Speaker 2: a cheese stick.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Well, I saw this video on TikTok because there's a
- 5:15Speaker 1: few accounts that share these candid paparazzi moments. And I
- 5:19Speaker 1: could tell the moment that Abby had clocked them because
- 5:23Speaker 1: she quickly grabbed onto Adam's hand because she's so clever.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Because if you saw the shot initially, they could have
- 5:29Speaker 1: made it look as if, oh no, they're not really
- 5:31Speaker 1: into each other. Or they're having an argument. Yeah, they
- 5:33Speaker 1: were sort of walking separately. I didn't think for a
- 5:36Speaker 1: second that these photos were set up because as Abby said,
- 5:39Speaker 1: you're hardly going to cool them down when you don't
- 5:41Speaker 1: have a skerrick of makeup on, you're wearing a dirty
- 5:44Speaker 1: track suit. And also you'd think that she would try
- 5:48Speaker 1: and get her outfit to match his vibe because he
- 5:50Speaker 1: was dressed up. She was looking daggy. I thought, oh,
- 5:53Speaker 1: poor Abby, they've caught her when she had no idea. Yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 1: and you can tell when it's a fake pap shot
- 5:58Speaker 1: when everyone's looking their best and the photos turn out
- 6:00Speaker 1: really well.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Under this clapback video that Abby created, a follower chimed
- 6:06Speaker 1: in saying, would have been better if you were picking
- 6:08Speaker 1: up dog shit. Iconic pap moment. And in response, Abby
- 6:12Speaker 1: created a montage of pap shots throughout the years and
- 6:15Speaker 1: it showed her walking alone with her dogs. And the
- 6:18Speaker 1: caption said, grown men making a career out from following
- 6:22Speaker 1: women on walks and taking photos. Now, this post seemed
- 6:25Speaker 1: to ruffle some feathers because it led to a follower
- 6:28Speaker 1: accusing her of having a working relationship with the Daily Mail.
- 6:32Speaker 1: So the follower wrote, someone from the Daily Mail says
- 6:35Speaker 1: you would email them once a week with updates about
- 6:37Speaker 1: where you were so you could be photographed. Can you respond? Now,
- 6:42Speaker 1: Abby hit back, writing clearly a troll comment, but maybe
- 6:45Speaker 1: laugh and responded with this video.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yeah, babe.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yeah, babe.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I definitely am emailing Daily Mail once a week. I'm
- 6:53Speaker 2: paying my assistant to make sure those emails go out
- 6:56Speaker 2: to make sure that I get photos of me walking
- 6:59Speaker 2: my dog for three viewers on Daily Mail. Oh, I
- 7:04Speaker 2: need it. I need it. I can't even fucking reply
- 7:07Speaker 2: to an email about my parking fines that will result
- 7:12Speaker 2: in me losing my license if I don't pay, babe.
- 7:15Speaker 2: You think I'm proactively emailing anyone on Daily Mail? to
- 7:19Speaker 2: come and follow me on a walk. Do you know
- 7:20Speaker 2: how fucking traumatizing this shit is? Do you understand? Like,
- 7:24Speaker 2: it is funny that you think this, but it's also
- 7:27Speaker 2: pretty crook. Like, you don't comprehend how crazy it is
- 7:30Speaker 2: to be followed by grown men. Why the fuck would
- 7:34Speaker 2: I want that? Why the fuck would I want that?
- 7:37Speaker 2: So yeah, show me the emails. Find the emails and
- 7:38Speaker 2: show me the emails. I'd love to see them. I'd
- 7:40Speaker 2: love it.
- 7:41Speaker 1: So it appears someone may have provided Abby with a
- 7:45Speaker 1: receipt because less than 24 hours later, she returned to
- 7:48Speaker 1: TikTok to reveal she had previously set up a pap shot.
- 7:52Speaker 1: So Abby wanted to make it clear it was a
- 7:55Speaker 1: one-off that happened in December 2020 when she was new
- 7:58Speaker 1: to the entertainment industry.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I actually have called the paps on myself, not like
- 8:03Speaker 2: called them while I've been somewhere, but I have done
- 8:05Speaker 2: a deal with paps in the past for them to
- 8:08Speaker 2: be able to like take photos and sell photos of
- 8:12Speaker 2: me doing something I was already doing. And that was
- 8:15Speaker 2: one time that, And it was in 2020, a month
- 8:22Speaker 2: after The Bachelor had aired. It wasn't for attention. It
- 8:26Speaker 2: wasn't to like have paps taking photos of me. It
- 8:29Speaker 2: was that I was fucking skint.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Now the pap shots in question were of Abby and
- 8:34Speaker 1: Danny Clayton, who is a TV presenter. And I totally
- 8:37Speaker 1: forgot that she dated him. This was a year before
- 8:40Speaker 1: Abby and Conrad B and Stevens got together. I had
- 8:43Speaker 1: to go back through the archives because I was so
- 8:45Speaker 1: curious to see what the photos look like and also
- 8:48Speaker 1: what the article was about. So the headline read, Clinging
- 8:52Speaker 1: on for dear life, The Bachelor's Abby Chatfield loses her
- 8:55Speaker 1: bikini top in the ocean while ramping up the PDA
- 8:58Speaker 1: with her new boyfriend, Danny Clayton at Bondi Beach. And
- 9:02Speaker 1: in the photos, Abby does appear to lose her bikini
- 9:05Speaker 1: top in the water. And the article described it as
- 9:08Speaker 1: Abby suffering a major wardrobe malfunction. I wonder now if
- 9:13Speaker 1: this was a legitimate wardrobe malfunction or if they agreed
- 9:18Speaker 1: to it because they knew it would be good for
- 9:19Speaker 1: clicks because this was just months after Abby created headlines
- 9:23Speaker 1: for dry humping Matt Agnew on the beach during the
- 9:26Speaker 1: Bachelor series. Was Abby also very glam in these photos?
- 9:29Speaker 1: Like it's sort of coming back to me now. Yeah, well–
- 9:32Speaker 1: I wouldn't say she had a full face of makeup on.
- 9:35Speaker 1: It was when she had her blonde curly hair. She
- 9:37Speaker 1: was wearing a bikini. It was really interesting to hear
- 9:41Speaker 1: Abby explain how this PAP deal worked because I haven't
- 9:45Speaker 1: really heard an influencer or a celebrity break it down
- 9:48Speaker 1: in this way. So she confirmed that she and Danny
- 9:51Speaker 1: got paid $ 1, 500 each for the deal, which she said
- 9:55Speaker 1: was a lot of money for at the time because
- 9:58Speaker 1: she had recently left her job due to the trolling
- 10:00Speaker 1: that she was receiving from appearing on The Bachelor. And
- 10:04Speaker 1: this money was going to cover 10 weeks of her rent.
- 10:07Speaker 1: She said that the journalist initially reached out with the
- 10:10Speaker 1: opportunity and Abby and Danny were already planning on going
- 10:14Speaker 1: to the beach. So the journalist said, you're doing it anyway.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Why don't we all make money from this opportunity? So
- 10:21Speaker 1: then the journalist liaised with the paparazzi and that's how
- 10:23Speaker 1: the story got up. I feel like Abby was under
- 10:26Speaker 1: some form of pressure to reveal this story. Here's what
- 10:29Speaker 1: she said.
- 10:30Speaker 2: But I just want to clarify because I really value
- 10:33Speaker 2: being fully transparent where I can or when I feel
- 10:36Speaker 2: prompted to. I'm sure there are things, well, there are things.
- 10:40Speaker 2: You guys don't know about me. I'm a mystery. But
- 10:43Speaker 2: being an oversharer and doing this for work, I want
- 10:45Speaker 2: to be completely honest. But it wasn't for attention. It
- 10:47Speaker 2: wasn't just to have paps near me. It was because
- 10:49Speaker 2: I was skint and I needed money and it was
- 10:51Speaker 2: one time.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I wonder if she was worried that this journalist or
- 10:55Speaker 1: someone from the Daily Mail was going to leak their
- 10:59Speaker 1: past emails and make her look like a liar. Because
- 11:02Speaker 1: for Abby, so much of her brand is built on transparency.
- 11:05Speaker 1: She is an open book on her podcast and also
- 11:08Speaker 1: on social media. She's been so honest recently answering questions.
- 11:12Speaker 1: On our recent subs episode, we go into how Abby
- 11:16Speaker 1: discusses how she makes more on social media than hosting
- 11:20Speaker 1: a TV show. So she isn't shy to hide away
- 11:23Speaker 1: from those big questions. Yeah. And in this case, it
- 11:25Speaker 1: was better for her to actually reveal the truth than
- 11:28Speaker 1: to try and hide it because hiding it would damage
- 11:31Speaker 1: her brand and reputation more. Yeah. She really had to
- 11:33Speaker 1: come clean with this information. I like that she got
- 11:37Speaker 1: in before anyone else could change the narrative as well,
- 11:39Speaker 1: because her reasons for accepting this PAP deal were pretty reasonable.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And I think that other people in the same situation
- 11:47Speaker 1: as her would have done the same thing, because as
- 11:49Speaker 1: she said, she doesn't have a problem with celebrities or
- 11:53Speaker 1: influencers arranging these deals as long as there is consent
- 11:56Speaker 1: in place because the people in the photos aren't being
- 11:59Speaker 1: exploited if they're being paid and have consent. I mean,
- 12:02Speaker 1: it does bring into question the legitimacy of the reporting
- 12:07Speaker 1: and just how set up some of these stories are. Yeah,
- 12:09Speaker 1: I think the issue is that it's a real double-edged
- 12:12Speaker 1: sword because I can see why Abby would have agreed
- 12:15Speaker 1: initially to have that deal with the paparazzi and to
- 12:17Speaker 1: do those set-up shots. But it sets this precedent that
- 12:20Speaker 1: she's almost... open to having a photograph taken in public. Well,
- 12:24Speaker 1: that's why I think it was really important for her
- 12:27Speaker 1: to reiterate in these videos just how often she is
- 12:31Speaker 1: stalked by the paparazzi. So she said that this happens
- 12:34Speaker 1: on a daily basis and she described the experience as
- 12:37Speaker 1: being very traumatic and she said that it's made her
- 12:39Speaker 1: become very paranoid when she's out alone. She explained that
- 12:43Speaker 1: every one of her daily walks is followed and She's
- 12:47Speaker 1: also fearful that her phone conversations on those walks are
- 12:51Speaker 1: being recorded for people to profit off. And it would
- 12:54Speaker 1: be so frightening because she said that some of these
- 12:56Speaker 1: photos of her that are being published are of her
- 12:59Speaker 1: outside her apartment building entrance, which is easily identifiable. And
- 13:05Speaker 1: while it feels like she did initially make a deal
- 13:07Speaker 1: with the devil, I don't think it means that she
- 13:09Speaker 1: is open fodder for the Daily Mail. I'm sure that
- 13:12Speaker 1: they have this opinion that because she was happy to
- 13:14Speaker 1: accept payment, That's her signing away any privacy that she has.
- 13:18Speaker 1: But I think that we need to have a look
- 13:20Speaker 1: at the disparity of power between Abby and the Daily
- 13:23Speaker 1: Mail at that time because she was only 24 years old.
- 13:26Speaker 1: She'd just come off a reality TV show. She was
- 13:29Speaker 1: making very little money and it seemed like her way
- 13:32Speaker 1: to make 10 weeks worth of rent She didn't have
- 13:35Speaker 1: a crystal ball out and envision that she was going
- 13:37Speaker 1: to be one of Australia's top media personalities and she
- 13:40Speaker 1: was going to be followed daily. It's a difficult one
- 13:42Speaker 1: for celebrities because it is such a complex relationship they
- 13:46Speaker 1: share with the media because in order to promote their projects,
- 13:50Speaker 1: they need to feed the beast and they need to
- 13:52Speaker 1: give them what they want. But then when they turn
- 13:54Speaker 1: around and say, hey, guys, I actually want some privacy,
- 13:56Speaker 1: the media says, well, you can't take the good without
- 13:58Speaker 1: the bad.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Oh, my God, I sound crazy. Like, I sound like
- 14:02Speaker 3: a fucking... surgery obsessed motherfucker.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Gold Coast influencer Sky Wheatley has revealed she's traveling to
- 14:10Speaker 1: Turkey to undergo fox eye lift surgery and potentially liposuction.
- 14:15Speaker 1: The recent I'm a Celeb winner who joked that she
- 14:18Speaker 1: is surgery obsessed that she knows she's going to be
- 14:21Speaker 1: judged for her admissions.
- 14:23Speaker 3: So I am going to Turkey. I'm going to Turkey
- 14:27Speaker 3: and I booked in with a really good doctor. I
- 14:29Speaker 3: know two girls from Australia who have gone to see
- 14:33Speaker 3: this particular doctor I've done a lot of research I
- 14:37Speaker 3: am getting the fox eye lift yeah which is pretty
- 14:44Speaker 3: much like a half facelift but the surgery itself is
- 14:48Speaker 3: actually not too invasive there's no scars.
- 14:52Speaker 1: This procedure is gaining a lot of traction on tiktok
- 14:56Speaker 1: Because apparently almond-shaped eyes and upturned eyes are all the
- 15:00Speaker 1: rage at the moment. So Bella Hadid has been appointed
- 15:04Speaker 1: as the poster girl for this trend with red carpet
- 15:07Speaker 1: photos of her all over cosmetic surgeons' websites. Now this
- 15:11Speaker 1: treatment is supposed to give you an elongated almond-shaped eye
- 15:15Speaker 1: with this upwards tilt. And there are two different ways
- 15:19Speaker 1: to achieve this look. So there is the surgical and
- 15:22Speaker 1: the non-surgical method. I'm sorry, but this is just so ridiculous.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I mean, where do the beauty standards end in terms
- 15:30Speaker 1: of if you don't have this shaped eye, apparently you're
- 15:34Speaker 1: not beautiful? Yeah, it's really scary because with platforms, particularly
- 15:39Speaker 1: like TikTok, it seems that every month there is this
- 15:43Speaker 1: new trend and this new beauty standard that that is
- 15:45Speaker 1: so impossible to live up to. I mean, it seems
- 15:49Speaker 1: fucked as well, messing around with your eyes. Yeah. In
- 15:52Speaker 1: Skye's case, she is claiming that she wants to get
- 15:55Speaker 1: this procedure done because she feels like her eyelids are
- 15:58Speaker 1: droopy and she's looking old. I mean, she's 30 years old. She-
- 16:03Speaker 1: She is a stunning woman. It's so hard because I
- 16:05Speaker 1: think that if you want to get plastic surgery to
- 16:07Speaker 1: make yourself feel better, that is your business. But in
- 16:10Speaker 1: this instance, it's so hard to look on because I
- 16:13Speaker 1: think Skye looks stunning and I don't particularly think she
- 16:16Speaker 1: needs any surgery. Now getting into these two procedures. So
- 16:20Speaker 1: as I said, there are two different ways that you
- 16:23Speaker 1: can achieve this look. So there is the surgical and
- 16:26Speaker 1: non-surgical method. So the less extreme method is a thread
- 16:31Speaker 1: lift technique. So The doctor inserts a thread surgically under
- 16:36Speaker 1: the skin and then they anchor up the eye in place.
- 16:40Speaker 1: So as the thread dissolves over time, it's supposed to
- 16:43Speaker 1: apparently stimulate collagen production, which helps maintain the lifted effect
- 16:49Speaker 1: for up to two years. Now what Sky Wheatley is
- 16:52Speaker 1: opting for is the surgical method. So because she thinks
- 16:56Speaker 1: that she has sagging and drooping under her eyes, She
- 17:00Speaker 1: is opting to get small incisions made around her temple
- 17:04Speaker 1: or along the natural creases of her eye. And then
- 17:07Speaker 1: the surgeon lifts and repositions the tissues around the eye,
- 17:11Speaker 1: creating that desired almond look. And in some cases... the
- 17:15Speaker 1: muscles around the eye have to be repositioned and excess
- 17:19Speaker 1: skin has to be removed to reduce that sagging. So
- 17:22Speaker 1: is this really about reducing the sagging of her eyes
- 17:25Speaker 1: or is it because she wants this new almond eye
- 17:28Speaker 1: trendy shape? It's not exactly clear. In this initial post,
- 17:32Speaker 1: she is saying it's because she feels she looks old
- 17:35Speaker 1: around her eyes. Now she said that she doesn't want
- 17:39Speaker 1: the results to be dramatic. Here's what she said.
- 17:41Speaker 3: I don't want it to be fucking hectic. I literally
- 17:45Speaker 3: want the smallest little lift.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I don't want to look crazy. I don't want it
- 17:51Speaker 1: to look hectic.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I don't want my eyebrows to be much higher than
- 17:54Speaker 3: they are because I feel like they're already so high.
- 17:57Speaker 1: But I just.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Want a little bit of a lift, like when my
- 18:01Speaker 3: face is relaxed.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Hang on, wait.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Anyway, I know people are going to think I'm being
- 18:05Speaker 3: fucking dramatic, but I've wanted this for a very long time.
- 18:07Speaker 3: I know a few people who have had it done
- 18:10Speaker 3: and they look amazing. It's not what you think. Like
- 18:13Speaker 3: I know people watching this who don't really know much
- 18:15Speaker 3: about surgeries are going to be like, you're going to
- 18:17Speaker 3: look older. You're going to look like a 40 year old.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Like that's fine.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I'm still doing it.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I know it's not going to look crazy because I've
- 18:24Speaker 3: told the doctor the look that I want to achieve.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I think what worries me about this, and I feel
- 18:30Speaker 1: terrible because I know people are going to say you're
- 18:31Speaker 1: being judgmental, But this is the same person who ordered
- 18:35Speaker 1: dodgy eye drops from Thailand to fix a serious medical problem.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I know. I've done research into it. What research on TikTok?
- 18:43Speaker 1: That doesn't count. The scary thing is TikTok is rife
- 18:47Speaker 1: with people sharing their experiences with the fox eye procedure.
- 18:51Speaker 1: So a TikToker called Nelly Noir, who has over 400,000 followers,
- 18:56Speaker 1: recently traveled to Turkey for a surgical eye lift. Here's
- 19:00Speaker 1: how she described the pain.
- 19:03Speaker 4: The feeling is basically like someone is pulling your eyes
- 19:06Speaker 4: and your eyebrows back and in the first days there
- 19:12Speaker 4: is a lot of pressure but it's going down and
- 19:15Speaker 4: at this point I still feel it but not that
- 19:18Speaker 4: much so for me personally it was a very painful
- 19:21Speaker 4: especially the first days the mix of everything the taping
- 19:25Speaker 4: your face the bruises the swelling the headache it was
- 19:28Speaker 4: like a mix of everything And it was very painful
- 19:32Speaker 4: to me. I would rate it a 7 or.
- 19:35Speaker 2: 8 out of 10.
- 19:37Speaker 1: A side fact, I.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Think breast augmentation is less painful.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Doesn't that just make you feel sick? I have such
- 19:45Speaker 1: a low pain threshold. Now, Nelly wasn't inspired by a celebrity.
- 19:50Speaker 1: to seek out this look, but rather her experience on
- 19:53Speaker 1: a photo shoot. So she's a model and she was
- 19:56Speaker 1: taking some photos and the makeup artists use face tape
- 19:59Speaker 1: to pull her eyes back. And she ended up, yeah,
- 20:03Speaker 1: and she loved how it looked. So she wanted to
- 20:06Speaker 1: look like that all of the time. And it's interesting
- 20:09Speaker 1: that she mentions face tape because whilst Bella Hadid keeps
- 20:12Speaker 1: being used as this poster girl for the Fox Eyes,
- 20:16Speaker 1: she told Vogue, whoever thinks I've gotten my eyes lifted
- 20:19Speaker 1: or whatever is called face tape. So she permanently wears
- 20:23Speaker 1: face tape. No, she just wears it when she's on
- 20:24Speaker 1: the red carpet. Apparently this is something that a lot
- 20:26Speaker 1: of celebrities use. It's so sad because there is so
- 20:30Speaker 1: much pressure on these celebrities and influencers to look a
- 20:33Speaker 1: certain way. And we've discussed it before how it seems
- 20:36Speaker 1: to be a lose-lose situation for influencers because they get
- 20:40Speaker 1: trolled about certain features of their face that no one
- 20:44Speaker 1: would ever say to that person in reality. Like they
- 20:46Speaker 1: just get picked apart. And then when they go and
- 20:49Speaker 1: do something about it, people go, oh my God, they
- 20:51Speaker 1: look fucking terrible. Why did they do that? But then
- 20:52Speaker 1: it's also hard for, young women and men watching on
- 20:56Speaker 1: at home these red carpets and these A-list celebrities who
- 20:59Speaker 1: their faces are all taped up and you have absolutely
- 21:01Speaker 1: no idea and you're sitting at home thinking, why don't
- 21:04Speaker 1: I look like that? It's like real-life Photoshop, isn't it?
- 21:07Speaker 1: There has been a growing number of Australians booking themselves
- 21:10Speaker 1: in for cosmetic procedures overseas in this bid to keep
- 21:13Speaker 1: up with the beauty trends we're seeing online. Each year
- 21:16Speaker 1: it's predicted that 15,000 Australians go overseas for the purpose
- 21:21Speaker 1: of medical tourism. Wow. And there has been a huge
- 21:24Speaker 1: increase of young people traveling to Turkey for not only
- 21:28Speaker 1: this fox eye surgery, but we're seeing it's becoming a
- 21:31Speaker 1: bit of a hot spot for hair transplants, liposuction, breast implants.
- 21:36Speaker 1: And also porcelain veneers, which we know from Love Island,
- 21:39Speaker 1: are referred to as turkey teeth. Well, I'm not surprised
- 21:41Speaker 1: about the hair transplants in Turkey because that's one that's
- 21:44Speaker 1: been heavily pushed to men on social media. A lot
- 21:47Speaker 1: of influencers have gone over and got it done. Well,
- 21:51Speaker 1: in 2022, 1.2 million medical tourists traveled to Turkey, bringing
- 21:55Speaker 1: in around $ 4 billion Australian dollars into the country, which
- 21:59Speaker 1: is a pretty wild stat. Yeah. The drawcard really is
- 22:02Speaker 1: that it is so much cheaper to get these procedures
- 22:05Speaker 1: done in Turkey as opposed to getting it done here
- 22:07Speaker 1: in Australia. Well, they're being marketed as very cheap and
- 22:10Speaker 1: super speedy. So clinics are actually putting together travel packages.
- 22:14Speaker 1: So not only is the surgery included, but also the hotel,
- 22:19Speaker 1: car rides between the hotel and the surgery. And there's
- 22:21Speaker 1: also the option of bringing a friend along. I love
- 22:24Speaker 1: how they make it seem so glamorous. But for anyone
- 22:26Speaker 1: who's watched that... Isn't that show called where they do
- 22:29Speaker 1: the total transformation? Oh, Extreme Makeover, is it? And they'd
- 22:32Speaker 1: always have the poor person being wheeled out and they
- 22:34Speaker 1: look so ill and they take them to this fancy hotel. Yeah,
- 22:38Speaker 1: and they don't enjoy any of it. The sad thing
- 22:40Speaker 1: is all of this medical tourism is having a negative
- 22:43Speaker 1: impact on the locals and many of them say they
- 22:46Speaker 1: feel like second-class citizens in their own country. And this
- 22:49Speaker 1: is down to the public health system because a lot
- 22:51Speaker 1: of doctors are choosing to turn their backs on the
- 22:54Speaker 1: hospitals in favour of opening up their own private clinics.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Turkey is also seeing a lot of their top surgeons
- 23:01Speaker 1: opting to move country to seek better opportunities where they
- 23:04Speaker 1: can get more pay. And this is having wide reaching
- 23:07Speaker 1: impacts because it's reducing the standard of medical care across
- 23:10Speaker 1: the board. And that's why we're seeing so many Australian
- 23:13Speaker 1: specialist plastic surgeons coming out and warning about medical tourism
- 23:18Speaker 1: because they're saying, well, a lot of these countries, they
- 23:21Speaker 1: don't have the same stringent controls that you see in Australia.
- 23:24Speaker 1: And in some countries, the requirements to become a surgeon,
- 23:28Speaker 1: are very different. What scares me about this new trend
- 23:31Speaker 1: of fox eye lifts is there are very serious side effects,
- 23:35Speaker 1: even if you're opting for the non-surgical procedure. So one
- 23:38Speaker 1: TikToker called Jessie Carr, her video went viral when she
- 23:42Speaker 1: shared the results of her eye lift. And in the video,
- 23:46Speaker 1: she turns her head to the side to show large
- 23:49Speaker 1: bumps on her temples with scars all over them. And
- 23:52Speaker 1: she captioned it, I can't take myself seriously with the
- 23:55Speaker 1: alien emoji alongside it. with the caption, hashtag botched surgery.
- 24:01Speaker 1: So in Jessie's case, these threads dissolved and scar tissue
- 24:05Speaker 1: built up around them. And it caused these bumps on
- 24:08Speaker 1: either side of her head And there's a lot of
- 24:11Speaker 1: speculation as to whether these threads can even hold up
- 24:14Speaker 1: the skin. It all just sounds like a rot. There
- 24:16Speaker 1: is also the risk that you can damage your nerve
- 24:19Speaker 1: and blood vessels. And this is when they insert the threads,
- 24:22Speaker 1: which can lead to a big bleed or even face paralysis.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I am just so surprised that Sky Wheatley would seriously
- 24:29Speaker 1: be considering traveling for surgery again because she flew to
- 24:34Speaker 1: Thailand around 10 years ago and ended up getting botched
- 24:37Speaker 1: breast implants there. It was highly publicized. Why would you
- 24:41Speaker 1: open yourself up to this? I know, but she's also
- 24:43Speaker 1: mentioned that aside from the fox eyes, she wants to
- 24:46Speaker 1: also lock in liposuction again. So she told her followers
- 24:49Speaker 1: that she had had liposuction once on the top of
- 24:52Speaker 1: her thighs and that was when she had her breast
- 24:54Speaker 1: implants fixed. Let's have a listen to what she said.
- 24:58Speaker 3: And then I was also thinking that I would love
- 25:01Speaker 3: to get lipo in here again because my doctor didn't
- 25:07Speaker 3: take enough. Like, I had fat grafting to my boobs
- 25:10Speaker 3: from my legs when I had my boobs done. And
- 25:15Speaker 3: I feel like there was no difference. Like I was
- 25:19Speaker 3: expecting this part to like be a little, like I
- 25:26Speaker 3: just want a little bit taken out from this. Anyway,
- 25:29Speaker 3: I also wanted to have, oh my God, I sound crazy.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Like I sound like a fucking, surgery obsessed motherfucker but
- 25:38Speaker 3: like kind of am so whatever just being real about
- 25:40Speaker 3: it um i know that molly may had liposuction on
- 25:44Speaker 3: her arms and i really wanted to get it on
- 25:46Speaker 3: my arms too because i hold fat in this area
- 25:50Speaker 3: in my back in my back and in my arms
- 25:53Speaker 3: like you would not believe even if i'm like super
- 25:57Speaker 3: super skinny my arms still hold fat so i was
- 26:01Speaker 3: considering having lipo on my arms But then I've seen
- 26:04Speaker 3: some that look crazy and I'm like, oh, I don't
- 26:07Speaker 3: know if I want to. So because I'm all about
- 26:11Speaker 3: the body staying as natural as possible. I don't want
- 26:14Speaker 3: my ass touched. And that's why I'm like, it's really
- 26:17Speaker 3: important that I share everything that I have done, especially
- 26:22Speaker 3: on my body, because I do not want people thinking
- 26:25Speaker 3: that I've had a BBL.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I find it very targeted that she points out that
- 26:30Speaker 1: she wants people to know that she hasn't had a BBL.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And it's because she's recently released an ebook, which is
- 26:36Speaker 1: telling her followers how they can train to get a
- 26:39Speaker 1: bum like hers. It didn't stop people from calling her
- 26:43Speaker 1: a hypocrite though, because one follower said, how can you
- 26:46Speaker 1: promote and sell a booty workout slash weight loss program
- 26:50Speaker 1: when the results you have are not due to said
- 26:52Speaker 1: booty workout, but are in fact a result of continuous
- 26:55Speaker 1: lipo and surgery? Well, they do have a point. it
- 26:59Speaker 1: is a little bit hypocritical to be putting out a
- 27:01Speaker 1: guide when you have had liposuction done. That being said,
- 27:05Speaker 1: I think Sky does have an amazing body and a
- 27:08Speaker 1: lot of it is down to her own hard work.
- 27:10Speaker 1: It's a really difficult one that I'm grappling with because
- 27:13Speaker 1: whilst I completely understand that it's her body and her
- 27:17Speaker 1: choice and she can undergo whatever procedures she wants, what
- 27:20Speaker 1: concerns me is the impact that her comments and nitpicking
- 27:26Speaker 1: her own body can have on her followers. Because she
- 27:29Speaker 1: ticks every single box when it comes down to beauty standards.
- 27:32Speaker 1: She might not be able to see it herself, but
- 27:34Speaker 1: she is a beautiful woman. So many of her followers
- 27:37Speaker 1: who are young girls would look up to her and say,
- 27:39Speaker 1: I want her body. I want her facial features. She
- 27:42Speaker 1: looks like a Barbie doll. She looks perfect. And what
- 27:45Speaker 1: happens when her young followers who don't fit those beauty ideals,
- 27:49Speaker 1: watch her pick herself apart online and say that she's
- 27:52Speaker 1: not happy in her own skin. They're going to think, well,
- 27:55Speaker 1: if she doesn't feel good enough, What does that say
- 27:57Speaker 1: about me and the way that I look? We had
- 27:59Speaker 1: a similar discussion a few weeks ago when we were
- 28:02Speaker 1: talking about Shani Grimmond and back in the day when
- 28:05Speaker 1: she got her lips and her boob job done and
- 28:07Speaker 1: how that had impacted a lot of her followers. I
- 28:10Speaker 1: think the issue with Sky is the amount of surgery
- 28:13Speaker 1: she's having are really mounting up. And she has admitted
- 28:16Speaker 1: that she has an obsession with perfection and an obsession
- 28:19Speaker 1: with surgery. And that's the point that upsets me a
- 28:23Speaker 1: little bit for Sky because I don't want her to
- 28:25Speaker 1: regret her decision. And it's getting to the point where
- 28:28Speaker 1: she's doing things and she's promoting things that are very nitpicky.
- 28:31Speaker 1: They're things that she doesn't necessarily need to have done.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I ultimately don't blame Sky Wheatley or think it's her fault.
- 28:38Speaker 1: It's this industry that is feeding us these insecurities that
- 28:42Speaker 1: we never knew we had because with TikTok, there's all
- 28:46Speaker 1: these fresh trends that are being pushed on us. So
- 28:48Speaker 1: if we spend money on certain makeup or certain surgeries,
- 28:52Speaker 1: hopefully we can look like this hot celebrity at the moment.
- 28:56Speaker 1: And like most trends, they're not going to last long.
- 28:59Speaker 1: But what's going to happen to you when you've spent
- 29:01Speaker 1: a lot of time and a lot of money on
- 29:03Speaker 1: getting something that's now no longer in fashion? Well, I
- 29:06Speaker 1: think that's all we've got time for today. Please make
- 29:08Speaker 1: sure you are following us on Instagram and also TikTok.
- 29:12Speaker 1: We're at Outspoken underscore the underscore podcast. This episode was
- 29:16Speaker 1: recorded on the traditional land of the Kaurna people of
- 29:18Speaker 1: the Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to elders past and present.
