- 0:06YouTube series. Let's get to and see what the

- 0:42To get out for you just, you know, right.
- 0:46Well, we come joined on the tiles to give you another week
- 0:50of insight, a little debauchery, and some good
- 0:55getting-to-know-you stuff. So let's get the night started.
- 0:59Yes, it's going to happen tonight.
- 1:00I feel it. I feel it.
- 1:04Clyde. How are you tonight, sir?
- 1:09After that intro? I'm not sure, I'm just
- 1:11inquisitive. Where am I taking this right?
- 1:17Governor, how are you tonight? Pretty good.
- 1:21You know, it's that, it's that week, everybody's trying to
- 1:24settle in and get class schedules, figuring out,
- 1:28practice all that stuff. And, you know, every day is just
- 1:35Another day to grind. And, you know, moving towards
- 1:39the first day of practice Exactly.
- 1:43So there's just how are you today sir tonight, sir?
- 1:46I've well, I'm very well. I'm rolling.
- 1:48I'm relaxing. I'm on vacation and just chill a
- 1:53little bit, nice. I mean, it's not like you
- 1:56deserve it or anything so you know, been working a little hard
- 2:00lately, of course, last but not least one bar, not the QB.
- 2:08Sure, you let us know about that.
- 2:10How are you tonight? I don't want anybody convicted
- 2:13Infuse me with the guy that plays for the Ravens.
- 2:16First off, I want to say a shout out to the governor for making
- 2:21the intro song. Finally, congratulations sir, I
- 2:27also want to bring to everyone's attention, the Ridiculousness of
- 2:30my background. If you're not a sneakerhead, you
- 2:34won't get this. But those shoes on the are
- 2:3615,000 dollars, an acre. So yeah, let's get it moving.
- 2:41We got he just hung a we did not.
- 2:46That's loose weight. If you ever see me with those
- 2:48on, I've been cloned and shoot me.
- 2:51Yeah. It's not the real him.
- 2:53It's the zombies. If I was a billionaire, I
- 2:57wouldn't buy those. All right.
- 3:00Well, jumping in and only getting into the middle of the
- 3:06pool. We have a question stemming off
- 3:09of our last week's conversation. Why do we think that?
- 3:15It just means more. It just means more when it comes
- 3:19to the SEC and European Athletics.
- 3:23In regards to track and field and what's going on right now,
- 3:26what do we think about that, that mentality?
- 3:33I mean, why are you laughing? I am, I am laughing at that
- 3:38question, because as an SEC alumni, I reject that entire
- 3:47notion in comparison Absol in comparison to in comparison to
- 3:55European Athletics. I don't think that.
- 3:56That is a, I don't think that that is a comparison.
- 4:00The comparison is not the SEC. Compared to European Athletics,
- 4:05The Graduate question was red. No, no.
- 4:09Apparently comparison is the SEC in comparison to everyone else
- 4:14and European Athletics in comparison to everyone.
- 4:17Yeah. Like okay yeah, sure within the
- 4:19population. So I'll say the idea that the
- 4:29SEC cares more about Collegiate track and Field than other
- 4:34conferences. I don't read.
- 4:35I do not accept that at all. That we have better.
- 4:39I say we meaning again, I'm going to London.
- 4:41I know I'm good. I say we because again, I'm an
- 4:47alumni. The SEC has had the best
- 4:50collection of talent in the NCAA year and to get the talent not
- 4:55because you care more know, how didn't know how to answer the
- 4:59question correctly? Sir, how did they get the talent
- 5:02because They hire the majority of the quote-unquote best
- 5:06coaches in the country aren't that comfortable, and those
- 5:09people were hired by home. People who want to pack that
- 5:13athletic directors. Yeah, sure.
- 5:15Who care more. I categorically reject that sir.
- 5:19I'm sorry we get that went okay. So the proof is in the pudding.
- 5:23So the proof is in the pudding. The proof just because you have
- 5:26more, something doesn't mean that you care more.
- 5:30It was like that's not fair. What do you mean?
- 5:32Of course it is. No no it's not there's not more
- 5:36sir. There is not more passionate.
- 5:38So okay so then told him to steal your thunder.
- 5:41As you're going to say this later, anyway, and there is
- 5:43absolutely is more passion for track and field is using the
- 5:45other conference. Absolutely Simon close.
- 5:48But I mean, comes, you would wake up, would say that and I
- 5:51get that but the proofs in the pudding.
- 5:55But when it comes to football and basketball and baseball, and
- 5:59the others words, the other conferences seem to have the
- 6:01money to pay those coaches, So why can't they track coaches?
- 6:05Because they don't care as much. Okay, so if we want to turn this
- 6:12conversation into a salary based issue, we you brought up money.
- 6:16I didn't I said that I categorically reject.
- 6:20Oh, do you know said and I quote and everybody on this panel and
- 6:24people are going to watch this in the future will hear you say
- 6:26this because just because you have more money, doesn't mean
- 6:30you care more you brought up money.
- 6:32I did that's fine. And if we want to turn, if we
- 6:35want to turn it into, if we want to turn that into To the salary
- 6:41structures. Prove that they care more,
- 6:44that's fine. But I disagree, there is not the
- 6:48I disagree. There is not more passion in the
- 6:51SEC than other conferences by and large.
- 6:54It just isn't there are better athletes and that's fine.
- 6:58That's fine. But there's not better athletes
- 7:00in European Athletics than there are in American Athletics.
- 7:04But we know that Europeans care about the sport.
- 7:06But so does that work? I see, you're trying to combine
- 7:11the two and they're not to be combined.
- 7:14It's a European Athletics for the other aspect is no, it's not
- 7:20reading it that way, but it's not.
- 7:21And I've just explained to you twice now, that's not set up
- 7:23that way. Of course, it wasn't meant to be
- 7:26set up that way. I'll stay.
- 7:27It was another Genesis I know Question is okay in the SEC in
- 7:36comparison to the other conferences which you totally
- 7:39reject? Why does it mean more to the SEC
- 7:41than the other conferences? And then why does, why does it
- 7:45mean more to your Burpee and Athletics?
- 7:47And it does to USA Track and Field and some of the other
- 7:51associations. That's the way, the person that
- 7:52the question is, right? And so I'm starting off and I
- 7:55will say again it just means more is a cute catchphrase that
- 8:00the SEC has coined for advertising.
- 8:03And it's cute and it works and I get it but we're talking about
- 8:07track and field. I categorically reject that SEC
- 8:11just means more in track and field.
- 8:13It doesn't you have better athletes?
- 8:14I get that. I'm an alumni.
- 8:16I'm not hating on the thing that I don't understand.
- 8:19I'm part of it. Okay.
- 8:21Well, sorry, I didn't I didn't that's not my experience as an
- 8:24athlete. It wasn't my experience as a
- 8:26coach. Okay?
- 8:27So my retort to that and again, this isn't my question that
- 8:31somebody asked me to ask the question of Love you guys and I
- 8:34really want to see what Lamar and the governor and and BLC
- 8:39have about 10 say about this. But I think for me the things I
- 8:42just said to you prove that it does mean more because if we're
- 8:47going to talk about the salaries which you brought up, okay, the
- 8:51SEC is willing to pay. If you talk about the coaches
- 8:55who go out and get said talented you talk about mean there seems
- 8:59to be you know a little bit more.
- 9:03Sense of urgency within the track of the world Mia season.
- 9:07At every campus. From top to bottom in the SEC,
- 9:14its horror. It means more to Catholic
- 9:17School. It might mean more in Gatorland,
- 9:20hold on a second. All right, so what, no, I
- 9:23challenge you. Okay, but we got 14 teams
- 9:28obviously this. We had 14, 14, 14, And They
- 9:39Carried a high level, a very high low high.
- 9:42I'm gonna step in here and playing the.
- 9:47I have actually have a very special experience having been
- 9:55in Missouri, when Missouri, joined the SEC.
- 9:58And I can categorically tell you that once we had that meeting
- 10:04with the commissioner and we walked out of that room.
- 10:08And we were told what it meant from Missouri to be an SEC,
- 10:14everything changed, everything changed, standards changed
- 10:21protocol changed like all of a sudden.
- 10:23Now you can't leave the stadium to go out and get something to
- 10:27eat and come back into the football stadium.
- 10:29All of these Rules start changing right, and as a track
- 10:33coach, I can tell you that everything had to change At that
- 10:38point, because as an Alum, you know, this chuck, if you don't,
- 10:45if you are not prepared, if you are not ready, you are going to
- 10:49get embarrassed and it's not just, you know, let's go in
- 10:54there and give it the old freshman try.
- 10:56No, no, you are going to get embarrassed.
- 10:59If you are not lined up and ready to go, and that starts at
- 11:05the top, With support with, you know, all the, you know, the
- 11:10people that contribute to the program, all of that facilities,
- 11:15quality athletes, all of that has to change.
- 11:18And there wasn't a situation where okay, we're just going to
- 11:23be good in football. Are we just going to be good in
- 11:26baseball? We're going to find carve out
- 11:28our niche in the SEC. Know, every single sport had to
- 11:33be better. Right.
- 11:35So I believe that you know, I don't think it's just a track
- 11:41thing. I think a reward in the SEC and
- 11:46every school has a sense of urgency to go out there and put
- 11:51their best teams, get the best coaches have the best resources.
- 11:57I believe. That's top to bottom now.
- 11:59And let me say this before then it's on the clock is going to
- 12:02chime in here just a second but but like there's a standard that
- 12:06we're all challenged to fight for every day.
- 12:09Yeah, I remember, I know you went to the rookie meeting for
- 12:12the coaches, right? And there's always a speaker in
- 12:16a brought in when I went to the meeting, they brought in the guy
- 12:18that we had been the LSU baseball coach forever, you
- 12:20know, and he walked out of the room and like yeah you know like
- 12:26they did you are challenged from day one to be held to be held to
- 12:31a higher standard to hold everybody else you to a higher
- 12:33standard. To not be, you know, the person
- 12:37that basically, you know, to talk about it, no drop the ball,
- 12:39right? So, I mean it's I mean I can't
- 12:45see that in my visits to other conferences.
- 12:52I've been in the ACC I've been, I mean, currently in the current
- 12:56Conference USA and Big 12, it's not the same, it's not the same.
- 13:04And there isn't, there isn't any way to compare and I've never
- 13:08been in the Pac-12. So I don't know what the
- 13:10mandate. Are or what the expectations
- 13:13are. But my, my thought process is,
- 13:17is that it starts at the top. So the standard has to be set at
- 13:22the top. And then everybody else has to
- 13:25figure out how they're going to raise their standard.
- 13:28I mean, there's no if ands or buts about it.
- 13:31And, in my opinion, everybody in the SEC.
- 13:34I mean, they're trying now, do they have access to the
- 13:39resources, and all of that stuff?
- 13:41That other schools have no. But I feel like the idea is that
- 13:47you have to put the best possible product on the track
- 13:51every single year. And I think the turnover that
- 13:55we're seeing in the SEC is greater than we see in other
- 14:00conferences. There is pressure, right?
- 14:03Look at what happened with the hiring of the SEC track coaches
- 14:06this year, right? I mean, what it is, what it is.
- 14:12I don't think there's any question.
- 14:19Not the kyuubi. I was about to pop put harsh
- 14:25wall. I thought what I want to know
- 14:26what you're eating, idiot, whatever it is, you're really
- 14:28enjoying cashews and they are spectacular.
- 14:34Yes, you are a cashew guy. So yeah, I should have known the
- 14:37classroom. That's why I'm using myself.
- 14:39I don't want them. I was going to pop some popcorn
- 14:44because I thought for sure Clyde was going to go so I thought I
- 14:46had like 20 minutes for sure but I actually am going.
- 14:53To defer the SEC, the Collegiate portion of this because what I
- 15:00find more interesting is the other other half for the
- 15:04conversion of the question. I I've always known this.
- 15:13I'm not going to go go around the block as you say, but I do
- 15:16want to bring this up. There was a moment last week
- 15:22where a young man got caught up to me up to the majors, and the
- 15:27video of him FaceTiming. His mom went viral, and I texted
- 15:33with the governor and I said, this is awesome.
- 15:35And he said, he agreed. And I said, but the unfortunate
- 15:38part This will never have this moment and track because you
- 15:42don't go pro and more and more than likely.
- 15:47What is more likely to happen is, you are calling home,
- 15:52scared, out of your mind because you're in a foreign country for
- 15:55the first time. Nobody there speaks English and
- 15:59you're not sure what to do. That's your I made it to the
- 16:03pros moment and track and so given that landscape.
- 16:08Tape. I don't think that there's any
- 16:13conversation as to, whether track and field means more in
- 16:18Europe, and to Europe than it does in the United States or
- 16:21anywhere else. But more more, I want to focus
- 16:25on the part of the question. As to why And I think the, why
- 16:29is a very simple one? They don't have American
- 16:33football and because they don't have American football.
- 16:38The basis of every other sport, which they enjoy his track and
- 16:44field. So like every world-class soccer
- 16:47player they have over there, every Cricket guy or girl like
- 16:55all except for swimming, pretty much everything.
- 16:58That they love in Europe, starts with track and field kids at
- 17:05four, five, six seven, eight years old, basically training
- 17:08like decathletes like the first time I ever saw three foot tall
- 17:13cones with holes in them was in Europe and I was like what in
- 17:16God's name are these for? And the next day they had a
- 17:19little kid race of hurdles and they punched holes at different
- 17:23hurdle. Heights for the little stick to
- 17:26go in and that's how they read like the kids.
- 17:28A hurtling at like 5. And I was like, it never in the
- 17:32United States no chance. And that's kind of one of those
- 17:36things that, in my opinion, the reason it means more in Europe
- 17:42and the European Athletics in particular is that's where they
- 17:45start. Right.
- 17:47Like, you know, we all know that the basis of every sport that we
- 17:50love in the United States is track your field, but it doesn't
- 17:53get that respect because of football.
- 17:58I mean, their words, I saw a thing.
- 17:59There was like, six point nine million people watch the
- 18:02preseason football game. We're literally nobody cares
- 18:05about the score. So like I just tells you where
- 18:08we're at, so like, no other sport is ever going to get the
- 18:12credit that is due in the u.s. because football literally is
- 18:16And twenty billion pound elephant in the room.
- 18:21But all the strength and conditioning for, for all of
- 18:23football comes from track and field.
- 18:26All the trains conditioning from every other sport comes from
- 18:28track and field and the basis of almost everything that we do in
- 18:31sports in the u.s. comes from track but it's just never
- 18:34treated with that kind of respect and it's more along.
- 18:38The lines of one of the funnier t-shirts that says like my sport
- 18:41is your sports punishment. And that's pretty much how we
- 18:46get scene like in track that like track is where they make
- 18:49you go to punish you and other sports.
- 18:51Like you got to go run. I don't, I don't think you're
- 18:55wrong about any of that it I guess I guess the football piece
- 19:03from an American point of view and popularity, that's obviously
- 19:07true. But soccer in Europe is bigger
- 19:11than football is in America. So they don't have American
- 19:16football, but they don't care for American football, they care
- 19:19about soccer. That's the number one thing.
- 19:22And so, I mean I'm not European. I didn't grow up there, I would
- 19:25imagine that little girl. One thing really quick, good,
- 19:30that is a, that's a misnomer. Soccer is bigger as a fan base.
- 19:37Participant sport than football is when not byways of
- 19:42televisions, it's not even close.
- 19:45There are way more people that watch American football than
- 19:47there are that watch soccer in Europe, not globally in Europe.
- 19:52Okay. I mean II.
- 19:56Okay, I'll accept that because I don't have any data on that.
- 20:00I'll just accept it. All I'm saying is like,
- 20:03everybody, the world all understands that soccer is the
- 20:05number one sport globally and most definitely in Europe,
- 20:09right? So like I said, I'm not
- 20:11disagreeing with anything that you said it just kind of threw
- 20:13me off that the comparative nature of what you were saying
- 20:17was through the lens of American football when Europeans don't
- 20:22care about American football. Like we can But what wasn't what
- 20:27they thought, I think that what he was that's I'm mistaken.
- 20:31He was speaking to the fact that because of the popularity here
- 20:34of American football trackers outshine because I would you
- 20:38trying to say Lamar Jose yeah then there's no doubting.
- 20:42That is most definitely out sign but soccer outshines.
- 20:46All things on that side. Does it not?
- 20:49Well see my retort to. That would be like I struggle To
- 20:56find any athletic event that I've ever been to in Europe,
- 21:01that's not well attended. Sure, he's so so I think it
- 21:06means more because they all need something to the Europeans, like
- 21:10there is no quote-unquote hierarchy, right?
- 21:13Like they support all of their Sports and, you know, I've know,
- 21:18I've been, you know, around a rugby situation, know you've
- 21:22been around me, know you've been over there and they have the
- 21:27bicycle races and all that stuff, right?
- 21:29And they're just thousands and thousand people to show up for
- 21:31this stuff. You turn on the TV and they're
- 21:33swimming or in Europe, or there's basketball in Europe,
- 21:37and little small obscure places in the state of your pack.
- 21:40So, I think that it just think it's a European culture for me,
- 21:42that that they just seem to attend and flocks to every
- 21:47athletic event that they have available.
- 21:50Well and that's the Sakura side. Yeah I thought that was kind of
- 21:54where I will ultimately wanted to go with that particular issue
- 21:59and ultimately where my point of view comes from from the first
- 22:03half of it, right? It's a cultural thing.
- 22:07Europeans by and large. In my opinion are have a better
- 22:12sport culture period than we do here.
- 22:16We are very specific. There's not a lot of crossover.
- 22:19If you're an NFL person, then you're an NFL person and you
- 22:22might be, you know, so passionate that you won't paint
- 22:25your face and stand naked in freezing weather.
- 22:28But those people don't usually care too much about baseball or
- 22:31basketball or hockey, right? It's a very specific thing.
- 22:36And so, Bomb the governor alluded to in his in his
- 22:42original thing. Like you brought up you started
- 22:45to delve in other sports and that's why my head was about to
- 22:47explode, because now we're going to say that the SEC basketball,
- 22:52it just means more than ACC basketball or Big Ten
- 22:55basketball. There's no evidence for that.
- 22:58And everybody's paid in basketball.
- 23:00Like, do you really believe that?
- 23:07And it's just not trying to, and I knew you were gonna go there.
- 23:10Like, you do. You've always, you're going to
- 23:13go there. When it comes to the SEC, the
- 23:14advertising campaign, and ESPN, and all that brilliant, and they
- 23:18are brilliant, but that has nothing to do with this
- 23:21question. Has nothing to do with the facts
- 23:26that are put out there. That if you look at it, across
- 23:29the board, if you delve into some of that they did, you say,
- 23:33it does seem to mean more in the SEC from the 80s to the So she
- 23:37ladies to the coaches to the athletes and everybody else
- 23:41involved with it. Track and field seems to me more
- 23:44to that crowd than it does to the other conferences because of
- 23:48the stuff resources that are giving to the SEC track and
- 23:51field Community to be at a high level.
- 23:54That's why it seems to me, nah, can't be a ring on going to all
- 23:58that football basketball stuff because ESPN is not the reason
- 24:00why we have great practice field before I didn't mean it looks.
- 24:04Okay, let's not disregard. Okay, passion for the event,
- 24:10right? Like student athletes that come
- 24:14through the ranks from, you know, High School.
- 24:18A you, you know, usatf all of that parents are there.
- 24:22You know, you're looking at all this swell of attention, you
- 24:26know, for these track meets and then they get to college and
- 24:33immediately We lead separate themselves from everybody else,
- 24:38right? And I'm trying to understand
- 24:41where you're where you're coming from you know, because let's get
- 24:46it. Let's not get let's not get it
- 24:48twisted at the D3 level at the D2 level.
- 24:52There is passion for tracks. Exactly what I'm saying.
- 24:56Absolutely. I'm actually one person and I'm
- 24:58not going to disregard that at all, right?
- 25:02But from the standpoint, Of a D2 coach.
- 25:09Knowing his limits on a d&ad to level telling a coach.
- 25:13Hey, you got to figure it out, you got to figure out how you're
- 25:17gonna, you know, fundraise for your team this year.
- 25:20You got to go out and, you know, find some way to purchase Shoes
- 25:23for your squad or whatever. Right.
- 25:27That is that's intrinsic that that coach is motivated
- 25:31intrinsically to go out there and provide what he can write
- 25:37recruiting. Why's he knows he's limited,
- 25:39right? He knows it at the D3 level.
- 25:41I mean, literally, your fucking kids off of campus and you're
- 25:45trying to, hey, you want to, you want to come out and run, you
- 25:47know, here's here's some spikes, you know?
- 25:49Like that's that's okay. That is love for the event,
- 25:54okay? But I feel like There are two
- 25:58categories when it comes to an a head coach walking into his 80s
- 26:03office and says, hey, I need a new track.
- 26:07Next year and the ad goes, okay, done.
- 26:11Right? I need a new indoor facility.
- 26:13Okay, done. Right.
- 26:17The idea is that the Ada is not sitting there going well, how am
- 26:21I going to spend these billions pockets of burning, know that ad
- 26:26wants that track team to be the best track team.
- 26:31I mean, correct me if I'm wrong and I started to say and what
- 26:38you're alluding to was that they've dumped money into
- 26:41basketball. They're dumping money.
- 26:43I mean, how much money I have. We seen as CC dumping the
- 26:46football, just it's insane, right?
- 26:50But every single year the SEC is represented at the highest
- 26:54level. So that's that is that is what
- 26:57I'm getting at. I mean, it means more Because
- 27:01they're willing to die to invest more into the sport.
- 27:07That's and that's and that's what I was making reference to,
- 27:12it really just depends on perspective that you come to.
- 27:14The question is yes, if you hear that question and you see it
- 27:20through that lens, I understand why somebody would make that
- 27:24argument. Hmm, I'll take it a step
- 27:26further. If you want to say that the
- 27:28sport culture of the SEC mentality Is one thing versus
- 27:36everyone else? I might even go there with you
- 27:38because they certainly believe that about themselves right, but
- 27:42you're never going to convince me as someone who's worked at D1
- 27:45D2, big school. Small school P5.
- 27:48You're not going to convince me at all that it that that the two
- 27:54championships that University of Florida athletes won.
- 27:57This year, means more to those kids than the two championships.
- 28:02My kids one at the bishop True. The third question is, why does
- 28:06it mean more in the SEC? And I say that it does not not
- 28:10that any of to the SEC, it doesn't mean more to the SEC
- 28:16championships championships that you run it from Lord, okay.
- 28:19Do not even aboard secure campus, then not talking chips,
- 28:2323 to those can about see, I'm going to be done with this
- 28:28because you're taking it somewhere doesn't need to go,
- 28:30but it's not about, it's not about what championships mean
- 28:33more to who Ooh, because if you playing tiddlywinks and your the
- 28:36national champion and I'm enrolling at the Championships
- 28:39mean the same, but we're talking about the fact that the SEC
- 28:45athletic directors, pour more into the SEC SEC track programs
- 28:51than the other conferences do. There is no doubt about that.
- 28:55Yeah, it's a first wife and think they have the money to do
- 28:57it. Okay.
- 28:58So that's sort of the Big 12, some of the Big Ten, you know,
- 29:01the Big Ten with their brand-new hundred Our contracts, right?
- 29:05So they got money, right? So it can't just be the SEC has
- 29:09the money, because we'd it's not about having all the money.
- 29:11So, so, wait a minute, let's see.
- 29:12There's any sort of amount of money, improving their
- 29:16facilities and dump him at home. Okay.
- 29:19No more. What Michigan became Michigan to
- 29:22improve the facilities. But we're talking about the
- 29:23conference as a whole, right? She look at the conference's as
- 29:27a whole. I can almost guarantee you that
- 29:31the salaries are. You could combine all of the The
- 29:34salaries of all the track coaches in the big, the SEC.
- 29:37There's not another conference that spends the same amount of
- 29:39money or even close top to bottom.
- 29:42Nope. And as I said, if it's defined
- 29:44by money, we all know that is that the money that's put into
- 29:50it, because it means more because me more, it's not about
- 29:54who has the most money. It's about what they're spending
- 29:57on. But what is it?
- 29:58What is it? Really disagree?
- 30:01So, I have because because they all have.
- 30:03Okay. So here, so here, so here's a,
- 30:04here's a nuanced money point of view for that.
- 30:09If you take and I don't know, someone smarter than me can run
- 30:13the numbers. Take what the SEC football
- 30:19salaries are juxtaposed them with the track and field
- 30:23salaries and then do the same for all the P5 conferences.
- 30:26I bet you the distinction is about eating No, I don't think
- 30:32so. No.
- 30:34No, I can tell you did. You understand what I'm saying?
- 30:44Yes. Of the Big Ten football coaches
- 31:02salaries than the SEC track and field coach has do of the SEC
- 31:06football coaches who watch smaller.
- 31:08I doubt that, that is true in the Big 12 or the Pac-12.
- 31:12Oh my God. The ACC.
- 31:14But again we're just spitballing here because we're just
- 31:18spitballing. So this is right now just a
- 31:21matter of literal, personal evaluation opinion.
- 31:24If there's numbers on that let's run them all I'm saying is the
- 31:29you guys hear the Second one way and I hear it a different way.
- 31:32When people like to say that it just means more.
- 31:36When I first heard that campaign, I said oh, that's
- 31:39brilliant untrue. But brilliant and it's only way
- 31:42it's true. Who defines whether it is true
- 31:49or not. You're just one man with you
- 31:52just you just moment. One man will want to take so are
- 31:55you? Because it because it is
- 31:56happening, but it's so it clearly could mean more just
- 32:00doesn't think you just make wants to buy that.
- 32:01Hold on, hold on a second because you exactly you can't be
- 32:04Quantified. But because you think it's a
- 32:06slogan because you think it's because I because you think it's
- 32:11some kind of a campaign. It was because the bottom line
- 32:14is this, right? If you look at it, again, from a
- 32:19point of Passion for the sport, right?
- 32:23For the sport of track and field, right?
- 32:26The passion that runs through the SEC from the athletic
- 32:30directors down to the athletes is greater than Disney other
- 32:33conferences. And there's no arguing that.
- 32:36I mean great when probably one of the best examples of this, do
- 32:40you, do you remember a couple of years ago when the state of
- 32:44Louisiana was broke? Like they literally were trying
- 32:49to figure out how they were going to pay their bills and one
- 32:53of the first things that popped up with, oh my gosh, what's
- 32:57going to happen at LSU? And the answer was nothing.
- 33:02Nothing changed. Okay.
- 33:05Nothing changed. And and furthermore, like the,
- 33:10the first thing is popping into my mind is like, okay, well,
- 33:13what's going to happen with track, what's going to happen
- 33:15with the sports that don't make money and all of that nothing
- 33:19happened. The the support was the same
- 33:22everything, nothing changed and I think that's in it at the base
- 33:26of the question. I think that the support and all
- 33:29that Stuff. And don't get me wrong Clyde.
- 33:31I understand where you're coming from because I know how your
- 33:33mind works, right? And I knew this with us this
- 33:35discussion was going to turn to. But when we're talking about
- 33:40basically, why does it mean more to the SEC and he has to the
- 33:46other conferences? And I don't think anybody can
- 33:50answer exactly why it seems to mean more, but clearly seems to
- 33:54me more. I don't know why every theory on
- 33:58that, okay? My theory is, is this and I
- 34:03think I have this perspective because I've seen this play out
- 34:05someplace else. There are very few professional
- 34:11sports team distractions in SEC country.
- 34:16Mmm, right? Like the most passion of any fan
- 34:19base, I've ever seen in my entire life and I've seen quite
- 34:22a few is Boise State football. Come on a football game.
- 34:27They, if you go to a grocery store, that's all way across
- 34:30town, everybody in the grocery store that works, there is going
- 34:33to have either blue or orange or white on with the Boise State
- 34:37Broncos, go on and you're like, you go in the game like, no, but
- 34:40it's game day and so like and, In places like Gainesville,
- 34:50Florida and places like Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and places
- 34:54like like Fayetteville Arkansas, right?
- 34:57Like This the pro sports team is the college.
- 35:04Right. And so I think that to some
- 35:07degree is why it quote, unquote means more, is because like
- 35:13Little kids like playing around the background grow up wanting
- 35:17to be whatever Gator. Great came from their era,
- 35:21right? Not necessarily, you know, Joe
- 35:25Montana. If that makes any sense.
- 35:28Like that's my own Theory to it because I joke about this, all
- 35:33the time, right? Like the, the the football
- 35:38realignment is all based on televisions, but the least
- 35:43number of televisions in any conferences in the SEC.
- 35:48And I've always found that fascinating and hilarious, but
- 35:52it's because every single television in SEC country
- 35:58watches every single SEC football game.
- 36:04Yep sure we're in l.a. there's no more going on.
- 36:08Yes that was my point but I want to turn this back to back to the
- 36:12whole the told track and field discussion.
- 36:16Right? Because if you're talking about,
- 36:18if I'm just going to use this analogy Every almost every time
- 36:25a school from another conference, the size they want
- 36:29to be a national Contender. The first thing out of their
- 36:33mouth is we need to be in SEC like team.
- 36:38That's always what they say. Because we're the standard And
- 36:42what do you what do you? Imagine that means Just what it
- 36:46says. They want to be an SEC like tea
- 36:48but sir, the way you win your national championships is vastly
- 36:50different than the way Arkansas would attack it.
- 36:53It's different than the way LSU attacks, it's different than the
- 36:55way George would still all SEC teams, right?
- 36:59But there's no one model that means anything.
- 37:02So that's what it's just, it's just the thing that people say,
- 37:04it doesn't mean. No, no, no, it does mean
- 37:07something because that means that you are powerful enough to
- 37:11challenge for the championship. Absolutely mean something
- 37:14whether your Arkansas or LSU or am or Florida?
- 37:20Georgia. Okay we got that.
- 37:22We all had different models that were all challenging, okay?
- 37:25Because and that's the key, you have to be an SEC like team to
- 37:30challenge for the title. That's, that's their thought is
- 37:34So there's there's no, so there's no, there's no saying
- 37:36that we're all the same model. But I don't think everybody just
- 37:40says, I just want to say that to be so it sounds cute.
- 37:42That was. That's what you think.
- 37:44I just I just think I just I've heard that rarely and all the
- 37:48few times. I've heard that out of
- 37:50somebody's mouth, I literally asked him.
- 37:51What does that mean? Because in recent history,
- 37:56organs won a lot of championships.
- 37:58So are they in SEC model or y'all in Oregon model?
- 38:02Like what does that even mean? When you left for twins, are
- 38:05they at USC model? Like, I don't know what the
- 38:08okay. But let's see what see you
- 38:10taking again out of context when I just said, right?
- 38:13The bottom line is that when it comes to color Collegiate track
- 38:17and field, the SEC is the model. Right from top to bottom.
- 38:22But from top to bottom, I mean, from the structure, from the
- 38:26money, you coach. The until in this is stuff that
- 38:28comes out of coaches mouth. I want to make SEC like money.
- 38:33You think that's just a that's just a term to that's just
- 38:35something that throwing out there.
- 38:37No, of course you didn't financially, that's not the
- 38:41conversation. I'm having.
- 38:44So I have I have input. So having been now in a P5
- 38:50School He had a mid-major being at a D2 and D3 in high school.
- 38:54There's always the comments. We're not the SEC.
- 38:58So it's the standard, it's a procedure, it's the protocol,
- 39:01it's the execution. So, the notion of this Grandeur
- 39:05thing just in the office, the other day, I made reference to
- 39:08serve Lucius in the things that he's doing in regards to making
- 39:12sure that he wins what he's going to win.
- 39:15That's not sets. Achieves the goals that he sets
- 39:17his team to staff and himself, right?
- 39:20Right? And the comment back to me was
- 39:24but he did it. He has his way of doing it
- 39:28because he set this forward and I said, no, sir lucious is set a
- 39:32tide in the direction that he wanted in, because that's his
- 39:36procedure protocol and standard, right?
- 39:39So, the FCC has done that coming from the looking from the bottom
- 39:43looking up, it's often said, we don't have sec money, we don't
- 39:48have sec moves, we don't have sec power to do that in our
- 39:52conferences. And so when I say that, I mean,
- 39:56Well, why would you? Like why would our conference
- 40:02meets be so Grand right? We're not the SEC.
- 40:06We just need tenths some coolers and a Timing System.
- 40:11I'm being exaggerated but it cannot affect you.
- 40:30That standard is what we Roll by and be like everyone.
- 40:35Was that proud? Like having been on this D3
- 40:38Squad and, and they roll. I kid you not, you know, it
- 40:42wasn't Scarlett, gray and black, you would have thought we were
- 40:45blue and orange and I'm sorry if there's specific Brewer oranges.
- 40:48But like, that's how they rolled and that's how we rolled the
- 40:52conference and you couldn't tell us differently.
- 40:55And so it, it Like with reference, the passion, the
- 40:59standard, and the execution that quote unquote, it just means
- 41:03more because there's Pride into it.
- 41:05So I think that if SEC is here, Big 12, Big 10 PAC, 12.
- 41:11Whoever this is, is that Rising, right?
- 41:13We rise the floor, not raise a feeling.
- 41:18What's that thing, what? I'm trying to say, if we do
- 41:20that, then the quote unquote on lower the ceiling?
- 41:23Yes, there you go. Then the quote unquote, It just
- 41:27means more, not necessarily goes way because it could be
- 41:29interpreted as what they put forth.
- 41:31But it doesn't have the heart Feeling Anymore.
- 41:37Jesse. And again quite I think so,
- 41:39you're referencing that that slogan, it just means more, the
- 41:43question was, why does it mean seemed to me more?
- 41:49I guess is why does it mean more to the SEC and these, okay?
- 41:52So the then the short smartass answer is because they Woman
- 41:57because that's still categorically disagree.
- 42:01That it does mean more there. It doesn't, you spend okay?
- 42:05It will means what escapes. Okay, first of all, that's
- 42:08categorically BS. Okay.
- 42:10Sir, you kill, you built me about that damn football
- 42:16building because I'm not a football coach.
- 42:17Don't do it. I will tell you that if and the
- 42:34governor can speak to this. If if the other conferences are
- 42:40as passionate about this as we are, then there's something
- 42:44wrong. There is because you can, you
- 42:47can go pluck, a school here and there from the other conferences
- 42:51that are successful for periods of time.
- 42:56But from from a longevity, standpoint is always been this
- 43:00week. So, clearly it means more than
- 43:02this leak. Clearly, there's something about
- 43:05this league where that it means more to the rest of them to us
- 43:08than the rest of the country. Because if we didn't, we
- 43:11wouldn't be as dominant as we are on a consistent basis.
- 43:16Right, I mean I think it's time for us to move on but I want to
- 43:20stick this in there and I think the governor will will like this
- 43:23and agree with this. What I find, what I have always
- 43:26found. Interesting.
- 43:26And it's based on my age is that there was never a conversation
- 43:31as to what Conference Track and Field meant the most to it was
- 43:35the Southwest Conference. And like literally there was no
- 43:37conversation and I don't think it was ever really about who
- 43:41spent the most money or any of those things but like the
- 43:45Southwest Contract was always the standard and then when the
- 43:49Southwest Conference broke up, I think because most of like
- 43:54something like a big part of the Heavy Hitters from the Southwest
- 43:57Conference went to the SEC and then football, the football
- 44:00television piece exploded, like it became that, right?
- 44:04And the SEC chooses, to spend more of its money in sports,
- 44:08then in more Sports than the Big Ten because the Big Ten has more
- 44:11money and they spend the same amount of football in less than
- 44:15most others. As they spend more in
- 44:16basketball, the same amount of football and less than just
- 44:18about everything. Yeah.
- 44:21But I do find it interesting and definitely definitely BLC like
- 44:25let's move to the next topic but I do find it very interesting
- 44:30that not that long ago. I know I'm old but when the
- 44:33Southwest Conference was the thing, there's no there was no
- 44:36question which one's the best track conference in the, in the
- 44:39ethos. Hmm.
- 44:42And I don't know. Okay, big lake Big League.
- 44:52See see Clyde you can't get mad because you have brought out the
- 44:57petty in him. Hmm.
- 45:17He has built the number one program in the country.
- 45:24It took a lot of work and a lot of vision to get it done.
- 45:27If God forbid, he decided tomorrow to check out and go
- 45:31somewhere else. I don't think his passion would
- 45:34be less. I don't think his vision would
- 45:36change. I don't think the model would
- 45:37change. He going to build what he going
- 45:39to bill because that's who the man is.
- 45:41That's not a Florida thing. That's a Henry.
- 45:46So the idea that Florida provides him pretty, damn good
- 45:51resources to help pull it off. Doesn't get Gator culture, more
- 45:56Kudos from me? That's him.
- 45:59That's for you graduation and that passion exists in a lot of
- 46:05other places outside of the southeast a lot.
- 46:10And I just tea, I totally agree with you about that.
- 46:14But the think the point I was trying to make to you, is
- 46:17there's more of that this conference than the others
- 46:21that's all agreed VLC nickel. Okay.
- 46:25As you are. Absolutely, right.
- 46:26There's a lot of very, very passionate go to them. all
- 46:31right, so I told you there was going to be some, some stuff and
- 46:38I said, I were in the middle of the pool, when I'm in the deep
- 46:40end, yet at European championships, they seated the
- 46:45top 12, Right to the semi and then they had the other 12 spots
- 46:51raced for they had to race for the next 12, right?
- 46:56What are your thoughts at the tiles?
- 46:58What are your thoughts on that procedure that method and do we
- 47:02think this could work in the US? That was an aggressive Hitler so
- 47:10you have to go? No.
- 47:18Okay. I don't really care if it would
- 47:21work. No.
- 47:24No, the European the Europeans do that, for whatever reasons
- 47:30they do that, I can only imagine that they do it to help
- 47:36guarantee that the top people coming in.
- 47:39Are the top people in the final Mass.
- 47:42Would make sense to me, if I'm thinking, why would they do
- 47:45that? That is not what we do here.
- 47:47We are not about trying to make sure that the people ranked I
- 47:51coming in find their way into the Final know, our model is you
- 47:55line your ass up and you race your way to the final.
- 47:59We're not about making it easier for the top seeds.
- 48:02That's not what we do. It's not our model, it's why?
- 48:05Our child? Who question, sir?
- 48:08I'm not watching. Yes.
- 48:10Okay. So it is very clear that you
- 48:12don't believe it, but the question is, could it work?
- 48:17Or would it work? We're, that's why I'm saying
- 48:20work to what end? So so what Whatever it like, I
- 48:24want to win it, this is here. The question is not whether you
- 48:27believe in the system, like could what they do their work
- 48:32here like you could could, we could, we could we have a system
- 48:36and the answer, obviously, you guys, they could be done, right?
- 48:40So if it could be done, but without me, just go on and say,
- 48:43okay, I don't believe in it, it's not what we do.
- 48:45Okay, we can get that right? So what would be the benefit
- 48:51Clyde? Governor if we did, do it that
- 48:55way, none the real benefit. So I'll I'll chime in here and
- 49:00this, this is where I think you're at a cross section
- 49:06between pure unadulterated sport.
- 49:12And professional sport. Now, what do we see in tennis,
- 49:19what do we see in the NFL playoffs?
- 49:23What do we see in basketball? I mean we hear this word
- 49:28bye-bye. You've earned the spot.
- 49:32You've earned a by, right? You're going to let those Wild
- 49:36Card teams. Go ahead, battle it out for the
- 49:39right to face you, but the bottom line is this For
- 49:46viewership for the people that are watching the truly love, you
- 49:51know, or are supporting the the top athletes.
- 49:57Again, we're going to we're going to move into this now.
- 49:59So ingebrigtsen has to be in that final, okay?
- 50:07They I feel like that is more of a shift towards making sure.
- 50:14That the viewing public see the best that European Athletics has
- 50:18has to offer. And for us, and for the majority
- 50:24of people on this side of the water, that that idea is still
- 50:29very foreign to the folks on this side of the water.
- 50:33It's not, it's not part of our DNA.
- 50:36It's not something that, you know, we're thinking about in
- 50:39terms of, how do you increase viewership?
- 50:43How do you make things more exciting?
- 50:45I mean, They're tinkering with stuff every single year.
- 50:50They're tinkering with qualifications are tinkering
- 50:54with. Okay, do we see this and all of
- 50:56that and the whole point the whole idea is how can we put
- 51:02more people or get more people to see the best that we have to
- 51:07offer, right? So that's that's the part for me
- 51:10that, you know, could it work over here?
- 51:14Absolutely. Absolutely now.
- 51:18But everybody would have to be on board with it and everybody
- 51:21find work. This stand.
- 51:22This this is a model that's designed to make sure that Fred
- 51:27Carly doesn't get hurt in in the, in the first round right?
- 51:33And doesn't show up, you know, and isn't there at least for the
- 51:36same, right? Like this.
- 51:38These are mechanisms, you know like you cannot have an NFL
- 51:44season without Tom. Eddie you cannot have a WTA
- 51:49event without Serena, right? Like these are things that, you
- 51:54know, when you shift from Pure sport to professional sport.
- 52:00Now, you now you have to make decisions like this.
- 52:03That's just my opinion. See, and that's something that
- 52:06the Lamar has been talking about forever, the perfect, the true
- 52:11professionalism of track and field.
- 52:14Yeah, right. And so when I mean and get get
- 52:19don't get me wrong, you know, I'm the line up and get it done.
- 52:21Got no issue with that at all. When I am for me, whatever
- 52:24parameters you put before me, I'm going to go and I'm going to
- 52:26tap. But if we're talking about the
- 52:30things that the governor is talking about, absolutely, it's
- 52:34a good idea, it's a great idea. If we can save people, people
- 52:37couple of races out of freight Curtis legs.
- 52:40It's a great idea. If it now allows people to
- 52:42double easier and not just the one that too, but other things
- 52:45It's a great idea from the television standpoint because I
- 52:49don't think anybody I should say anybody but very few people are
- 52:53tuning in for that first round anyway.
- 52:56But the everybody's hot for this Mo.
- 52:58Yeah. Right.
- 53:00And so, as long as you're not giving this great advantage to
- 53:03anybody that and obviously, it's probably a little bit tougher
- 53:05here in some events because of the depth of the events that we
- 53:08have. But absolutely, it would work.
- 53:11And absolutely, you did also did now there's a strategy of.
- 53:14Okay, I need to make sure that I Run well enough so I don't have
- 53:17to run run. No.
- 53:19And there's also people that don't mind running and running
- 53:21around because I've I don't want to, I don't care from the top
- 53:23but we're not because I can handle it by based on my
- 53:26training. So I think that from an overall
- 53:29standpoint, it absolutely could work here if we wanted it but
- 53:33some people feel the way Clyde does that prove?
- 53:36I'm still asking the question work to what end?
- 53:41What would what do you mean? What is are we going to get more
- 53:44eyeballs on? If we do, this, are the athletes
- 53:47going to make more money. If we do this work to what end?
- 53:52Obviously, if we can make Fred Curly's life, a little easier if
- 53:54he doesn't have to run the next round but there's other
- 53:58athletes. Yeah.
- 53:59Well that way that's the best the end that I think the
- 54:01governor spoke to it's just you know ensuring that the better
- 54:04athletes have a little less than their life.
- 54:07Yes, I mean Uncle. So let's let's let's put it in
- 54:11into context. The semi is in the finals are on
- 54:14the same night Within In 90 minutes of each other right now,
- 54:19Fred Curly runs a day before gets injured, right?
- 54:24That is a loss from the standpoint of viewership.
- 54:30That is a loss from the standpoint standpoint of
- 54:34professional sport. The the the case face of USA
- 54:40sprinting right now. Is not in the semis because he
- 54:44got injured, but wait a minute. I understand.
- 54:48I'm not thinking that I suppose I'm behind it.
- 54:52I'm telling you that, this is something.
- 54:55This is a just explaining why they do it.
- 54:58This is what I would do. So I'm asking, I understand it
- 55:02in theory, but I'm active, I'm asking a more reality-based
- 55:08question. Frank Hurley got hurt early in
- 55:11the 200-meter, is that our trials this year, okay?
- 55:14Is there any evidence that less people watch the final?
- 55:16Because he wasn't in it. I don't think there is See that.
- 55:21That's okay. Now the next bit is it will be
- 55:25real. Well I'm sure that they're
- 55:27there's definitely evidence that I would say they're less people
- 55:30to watch because the people in the freight curly Camp did watch
- 55:32it. That's least one or two people,
- 55:34write it right for being on the credit side of it, right?
- 55:37Okay. But then but then the Mi crew W,
- 55:41you know what I mean? Like I will also I will also,
- 55:45you know, track and feel is probably the most sport that is
- 55:49the most Most guilty of not pushing or or stars to the fore
- 55:57and I mean Beyond just the the average track fan, right?
- 56:02Absolutely. And and we have one example that
- 56:06we can look at from, you know, a decade ago, you know, the Usain
- 56:10Bolt that did exactly that. And I can guarantee you if
- 56:15they're, you know, if there was a situation where they could
- 56:19have changed, Things to allow him to be there for the Siamese.
- 56:23I you can bet your bottom because we've seen it, we've
- 56:27seen empty Stadium V, running full Stadium, right?
- 56:32So that that we know that that model is there.
- 56:36We know that we know that the opportunity is there, right?
- 56:40But it also requires a lot of leg work and a lot of putting
- 56:47people on pedestals, and a lot of, you know, like How many
- 56:51people truly understand how good student?
- 56:55There's the issue right there. Yes.
- 56:56It's so how do you determine who this world are?
- 56:59So it's easier for a European Athletics to determine their 12
- 57:03courses. Usatf determining their 12.
- 57:05There's you, there's you issue? I think.
- 57:06Yeah, right. And so I totally agree that.
- 57:09That's, that is probably the really main reason why I would
- 57:12get bad idea is because our 12 in certain events, is much
- 57:17tougher than it will be much tougher.
- 57:20From that standpoint. It's a problem.
- 57:23Yeah. But if you can determine the 12,
- 57:26it's not a bad thing, you know, because because again, it's a
- 57:31Nama I'm not even about, you know, showing people get to
- 57:35watch it on TV, right? I don't know where it's ever a
- 57:38bad thing that you can earn the right to get a little extra rest
- 57:41because of what you did during the regular season.
- 57:45Because as the governor said, we do another sport.
- 57:47Yes, we do. But it could work here.
- 57:50It'd just be a whole lot tougher because finding 12 the top 12 in
- 57:54the hundreds of the 200 because there's always going to be that
- 57:57clump of guys right there between 9 and 15.
- 57:59Right. Exactly.
- 58:01So this is on The Winning Side, whatever you are.
- 58:04It is the European by I'm going to use that word.
- 58:07Is the European by based on seasonal best?
- 58:10Or is it based on ranking? I can't answer that question.
- 58:13No idea but you all understand why that's a very crucial issue,
- 58:17right? Funny part is this that's only a
- 58:22crucial issue in the United States.
- 58:24Like this is this is the one thing that we all have to
- 58:27accept. The Europeans have drank the
- 58:29Kool-Aid, mhm, from their perspective, the rankings are
- 58:33what they are. Yes.
- 58:34And and like meaning, okay, if you're if you have the 11th
- 58:38fastest time in Europe and you're ranked 14th and the 14th
- 58:44fastest person is ranked 11th and they get the by and you
- 58:48don't the European athletes and North nor were the coaches
- 58:51complain about that. We of course the United States
- 58:54would raise holy hell about the part of it is is like is to is
- 58:59to climbs original point. I think part of what track and
- 59:02field coach fans in United States, show up for his the
- 59:05Carnage. Like Ice-T, I think some of us
- 59:08act, some of us, meaning the American track and field fan,
- 59:13they show up to see who's not gonna make it.
- 59:16Okay, so and I want to say this, okay?
- 59:18So, you know, we get guys to run really fast in the first round.
- 59:24But how many times have we showed up in the first round to
- 59:26eliminate like, five people? Oh, I mean, listen.
- 59:31All of the tile is right and I'm afraid, right?
- 59:36But so that again, for me anyway, says like, we still were
- 59:40still on the eliminating. Those five people we're making
- 59:43are better people run into elimination. 85 people, so we
- 59:46could protect them by having them not run that I don't see
- 59:49how it's a horrible idea, but I'm understand your point is,
- 59:54well, I'm all for, I don't know. I'm all for an idea.
- 1:00:02So right now you go to US Olympic trials and for the last
- 1:00:05couple years it's been what, top, 30 to get to come in and do
- 1:00:09your thing. I'm all for world where it
- 1:00:13stopped 24, or it stops. T.
- 1:00:16I'm all for making the USA championships harder to get
- 1:00:21into. I got no issue with that and by
- 1:00:24definition of it's harder to get into than there's going to be
- 1:00:26less rounds. I'm cool with that.
- 1:00:29I guess, I guess my stomach turns at the idea of turning
- 1:00:33anything from our perspective into a popularity contest or to
- 1:00:38give passes to whoever because they had a hot race early in the
- 1:00:43season or whatever. Like I just Just, it's just so
- 1:00:47anti-us. So, without without that system,
- 1:00:51from cable does not win the 400 in the for hurdles at Europeans
- 1:00:56absolute, not the spectacle of her doing that and then turning
- 1:01:01around and running 48 on a 4x4, you know, for her team.
- 1:01:06If that does not happen. If she's got to run three
- 1:01:09rounds, it's impossible. And I'm not going to say it
- 1:01:13wasn't cool to watch because it was right.
- 1:01:15And I think talk like justice to in this to big size of this,
- 1:01:19isn't it? Yeah, absolutely because,
- 1:01:22because again, it obviously, it will work or could work or
- 1:01:27should work if we implemented it.
- 1:01:29But the problem is, is the implementation of the top 12
- 1:01:32here in our country, that's the problem.
- 1:01:34Yeah. If the sport was professional,
- 1:01:38see would definitely would definitely worth that rational I
- 1:01:45started this with the EPA has been screaming.
- 1:01:48This is this really not a sport was if the sport was
- 1:01:54professional, and it was run like a league right then then,
- 1:01:58that's exactly what would happen.
- 1:02:00Yes. And right, and I think the real
- 1:02:03me, Reserve your best.
- 1:02:18Yes you sure they are there. I think to Clyde's Point Clyde
- 1:02:22just wants to make sure they're learning fast.
- 1:02:26Yeah that best not just you know that one time or I just went out
- 1:02:30there like like the guy went out there and ran whatever whatever
- 1:02:32in turn pro, the next day and it was it was it was, it was right,
- 1:02:42rational then, okay, I think golf doesn't The best golf to be
- 1:02:47a. I don't know if you guys know
- 1:02:48this, but to be on the PGA tour, you have to be one of the top
- 1:02:51125 golfers in the world. Okay, if you are.
- 1:02:57Yeah. And if you are, I think, I think
- 1:02:59it's if you're in the bottom 10, then you still have to go defend
- 1:03:03your spots at Q school. So, they have a qualifying
- 1:03:06school to, to make it into the top 125 and get your tour card.
- 1:03:12If you're in the bottom 10, you have to go to Q school with
- 1:03:15those. You have to go and defend your
- 1:03:17spot, right? They don't start even, even by
- 1:03:20the way. Like if you're, if you were on
- 1:03:22the PGA tour last year, You get a bye.
- 1:03:25Yeah, from the first round, right?
- 1:03:27And, you know, so from the first round of cuts and they basically
- 1:03:29have a gigantic tournament and they take, you know, the top 10
- 1:03:32or 12, whatever, it is, whatever the spots are to fill the spot.
- 1:03:37But what they do beyond that, like, this is where us not
- 1:03:40having a league. This is where becomes an issue,
- 1:03:43right? When tiger was an amateur, he
- 1:03:48could get sponsor exemptions to be in PGA events.
- 1:03:54He couldn't play the whole tour. It wasn't eligible to have PGA
- 1:03:57rankings. But the spectacle the
- 1:04:00professional spectacle of this young cat.
- 1:04:02Like, yo, this is what's next was valued, is valued by the
- 1:04:06entire sport. So he got sponsor exemptions and
- 1:04:09he played three or four PGA Tour events before he turned Pro and
- 1:04:16they still do that. You can still have your You can
- 1:04:18still have tour exemptions for people who are not in the top 25
- 1:04:22anymore but they're on the senior tour.
- 1:04:24But they you know like look if I was if I was a PGA event I would
- 1:04:28want John Daly in my event because he's the greatest
- 1:04:31redneck hero in the history of in the history of Heroes.
- 1:04:34I watched that guy hit a hole-in-one in bare feet, two
- 1:04:38days ago on Instagram. So like right that that's you
- 1:04:43know there's a fan base that comes with that.
- 1:04:45And so I guess to the point is like Nobody can tell, we were
- 1:04:51said this a million times, nobody can tell you what, it
- 1:04:55takes to be a professional track and field athlete.
- 1:04:59So that just tells you by definition like we're not
- 1:05:01professionals, it's not a league, is not a, you can't, you
- 1:05:05can't go by and no allows jurors.
- 1:05:09Yeah, right and and therein lies like where we're missing the
- 1:05:13boat for the athletes, the meet sponsors, and the overall growth
- 1:05:18of the sport and in importance in the United States.
- 1:05:23The fact that you can go buy a WNBA Jersey and you can't go by,
- 1:05:27you know, a flamingo Jersey is a huge problem.
- 1:05:33It's a huge problem and at the end of the day, like somebody
- 1:05:37needs to be willing to fight the fights that are necessary to
- 1:05:42make the sport professional. I think the gulf models,
- 1:05:45probably only one that will work for us.
- 1:05:47It's probably that the professional circuit is probably
- 1:05:51the top 32 in the world per event.
- 1:05:55It might be bigger than might be smaller than that.
- 1:05:57It might be the top 24. Right.
- 1:06:00But but for that, the interest of inclusion. the, the
- 1:06:04professional group of track and field athletes in this, when the
- 1:06:08world are probably the top 24 to 32 in each event, that's
- 1:06:15probably what the what the professional pool is and them if
- 1:06:21somebody runs a time you know okay.
- 1:06:25When a year and a half ago, two years ago when Ariane night and
- 1:06:29started running really fast yeah IMA give that due to laying in
- 1:06:35one of the you know the European meats and such because we want
- 1:06:40to see him right? You know.
- 1:06:42Yeah we'll figure out how to pay him and do all that stuff.
- 1:06:45But he's not a pro yet. You know what I mean?
- 1:06:48And I think there would be there would be something to Aspire to
- 1:06:51if you as a Collegian or a high schooler, you could go pro, you
- 1:06:57wouldn't, you know, the entire sport wouldn't be slaves to the
- 1:07:00shoe companies. Like like it would just be a, it
- 1:07:04would be a higher. Listen.
- 1:07:05What do I care? I don't know.
- 1:07:07No, I'm just, you know. No.
- 1:07:10I'm saying be careful because I know you hate the ranking system
- 1:07:14just like I do but you almost just made their entire point of
- 1:07:19why it exists the way that it does.
- 1:07:20So so I'm going to say this you and I differ, I don't hate the
- 1:07:24ranking system, I hate the ranking system because there is
- 1:07:29not a professional League. I would Holistically into the
- 1:07:33ranking system. If you tell me the top 32 people
- 1:07:36in the world are what it takes to be a pro.
- 1:07:39I'll buy that 30, 31 and 27 are different and and there's
- 1:07:44different things that happened in some have to race and some
- 1:07:46don't I'll buy that the ends would definitely justify the
- 1:07:52means, and it would be best for everybody.
- 1:07:53Yeah, issue with the ranking system is how you get ranking
- 1:07:57points. Yeah, therein lies the lack of
- 1:08:00professionality. But here's the thing, if you
- 1:08:02think about it in Europe, there is a track and field leak,
- 1:08:05mmm-hmm? Of course you're if you get on
- 1:08:08that website and see how they operate things and how
- 1:08:12everything builds towards Europeans, you can tell that
- 1:08:16it's a very exclusive. Well we can't just show up in
- 1:08:21this, go to Europeans like it's but but this wouldn't be that
- 1:08:24difficult to do, right? Like yeah, look if you, if you
- 1:08:27could sell it as it like if you could ever go to any American
- 1:08:32companies with what all of track and field is this is the League.
- 1:08:37This is what you're buying hundred percent.
- 1:08:40We could get Coke. Pepsi McDonald's, you name it.
- 1:08:44All these Global sponsors to sponsor a North American.
- 1:08:48Second track League, a knack a clique you could get all of the
- 1:08:52country sponsorship sponsors in Oceania to do Australia and and
- 1:09:01New Zealand and and the smaller islands like there could be, you
- 1:09:06know, a Far East Division. A West Division in North
- 1:09:09Division and it and actually be relatively equal.
- 1:09:15But that's the only way. That's the only way you could
- 1:09:17ever actually do it is you somebody would have to Define
- 1:09:21what being a professional in track and field is so that you
- 1:09:25can take that to a sponsor and sell it.
- 1:09:26Because right now, what are you selling?
- 1:09:28If you try, if I said you Clyde go sell the entire sport of
- 1:09:32global track and field to anyone.
- 1:09:35What are you selling? I'm you can't, you can't
- 1:09:39guarantee anything. You can't tell me that.
- 1:09:41No allows and sit are going to be at a meet.
- 1:09:44Nope, there's no ramifications if they don't come don't know
- 1:09:47but but the question is what you're selling I would be I
- 1:09:50would be selling and promoting the stars of the show.
- 1:09:54Okay so here's one example we have to sell so what is that
- 1:09:58what what what's the definition of a star who was the star?
- 1:10:04Medalist. Let's take okay, okay, wow.
- 1:10:07I'ma tell you right now that if you think about it, that's as
- 1:10:10moving a Target as there is. Hmm.
- 1:10:12Sure. But right now, that's how it is,
- 1:10:17huh? You're always, you're always in
- 1:10:26the star category if you have a metal, right?
- 1:10:29So, that's what I'm saying, so that number gets bigger every
- 1:10:32year. That's it.
- 1:10:35That's an issue that like, look, the best part.
- 1:10:38The best part about the NFL's, you know, exactly how many jobs
- 1:10:40are. Yep.
- 1:10:42The best. The best part about Major League
- 1:10:43Baseball's, you know, Exactly how many jobs are like Walker.
- 1:10:46There this is that because those are team sports with balls.
- 1:10:49It's just not, it's not the same thing.
- 1:10:51The golf thing was what Golf? And Tennis there is a number and
- 1:10:58I'm telling you you could not sell, you could not sell any
- 1:11:02part of track and field to a major US company because you
- 1:11:06don't happy. What are you selling?
- 1:11:09You can't guarantee them anything.
- 1:11:12Think about it. Think about it this way.
- 1:11:14What outside of losing your contract?
- 1:11:19What? Athlete is afraid to not be
- 1:11:22professional next year. Think about that.
- 1:11:27Like so if there is an established parameter, this is
- 1:11:30what it means to be professional.
- 1:11:32And you have to hit a certain threshold, forget about your
- 1:11:36shoe contract. This is what it means to be a
- 1:11:40card-carrying member of the professional track League.
- 1:11:44We it had been absent. Feelings brand Allyson, Felix
- 1:11:48ran without a contract. Yeah, there's a perfect example.
- 1:11:52That's an Abomination. That's an Abomination.
- 1:11:54But it only Because there is no professionalism in the sport
- 1:11:58know. So we all agree on that, there's
- 1:12:00no one's disagreement but that's the fix to speak to the point
- 1:12:05of, you know, there's a reason why USA Track & Field has
- 1:12:11struggled to package stuff like this, because they can't get
- 1:12:15anybody to get on board. Ya know, the things that the EPA
- 1:12:19is talking about people have tried.
- 1:12:22And they that nobody wants to be a part of it.
- 1:12:24Because we are absolutely denesecia sport on the planet.
- 1:12:28And United States is where the biggest mess is.
- 1:12:32You know, the the backstabbing I mean, like, okay athlete exes
- 1:12:36would ask for Coach, why this week.
- 1:12:38And then two weeks later they will Coach Z, right?
- 1:12:43There's a professional in a sport.
- 1:12:44There's no continuity in the sport.
- 1:12:46There's definitely definitely, you know, no loyalty in For
- 1:12:52whatsoever. So you keep there's nothing to
- 1:12:55sell here. You're going to get great
- 1:12:57performances, you can give you Tina Great Performances, but
- 1:13:00behind every great performance. There's some tomfoolery that's
- 1:13:04going on that makes it not very attractive.
- 1:13:08I mean, what is, what is the biggest?
- 1:13:10What was the biggest knock against Venus and Serena During
- 1:13:15their professional career, they didn't play enough events and
- 1:13:21they kept that has followed them throughout their entire career.
- 1:13:25Now, they made a point to Buck the trend and say, hey, we're
- 1:13:29going to do it our way, right? But the average professional
- 1:13:34tennis player plays tourneys damn near every single week,
- 1:13:40you're moving from one place to another to another to another
- 1:13:45and Are playing like this is so they understand, they need
- 1:13:49points, they understand, they need to maintain their status
- 1:13:54and in order to maintain in order to maintain their, their,
- 1:13:57their sponsorships, whatever it is, they've got to make sure
- 1:14:01they're in a certain category, right?
- 1:14:03So it's it's one of those things that it feeds on each other, you
- 1:14:07know. So I find that.
- 1:14:11That is the one thing that, you know, I mean from I was
- 1:14:14competing And we were all complaining about called Carl,
- 1:14:18you know, races, five times a year and ends up number one in
- 1:14:21the world and the rest of us are jumping, 20 times a year and
- 1:14:26nowhere near it, right? And those are the kind of things
- 1:14:30that, you know, those parameters cannot be cannot be set by your
- 1:14:36shoe contract. Those are things that have to be
- 1:14:39set from the very top from World Athletics, from usatf like, And
- 1:14:45think about this, okay? We understand that there's a
- 1:14:49group of four or five, sometimes less men, that's it out in
- 1:14:56offices or in their homes. In the track of code news crew,
- 1:15:01the determined people's fate in this in this world.
- 1:15:04When did attract a field news? People become the authorities.
- 1:15:08People get absolute, they get there, but ranking bonuses based
- 1:15:12on what those four or five people give the Bible, right?
- 1:15:16They call level of. This was a great advertising, is
- 1:15:19advertising is great. Incredible, right?
- 1:15:24So you're going to say yes and their minds anyway.
- 1:15:37You know, some of the rationale they use when they do some of
- 1:15:39the stuff that they do is Amazing by the day, hold
- 1:15:43people's fate in their Get that stuff by the way.
- 1:15:47So you know the circle back and chew.
- 1:15:49I know we gotta move but the rankings have been updated.
- 1:15:54So it swirls. Europeans is ranked number two,
- 1:15:58so USA's Commonwealth ncaa's Now, kak scc's Mediterranean
- 1:16:09games World u20s ibero-american Championships, that's the top
- 1:16:1310. And and understanding leave the
- 1:16:18top over that for us because we understand what he just read.
- 1:16:22He just read the list of the top ranked competition in the world.
- 1:16:28You get the, you get the most points according to the world
- 1:16:32Athletics calculator, and how they do things.
- 1:16:35Exact problem with that is, nah, nothing.
- 1:16:39Nothing that he just read on that list is based purely on
- 1:16:43performances in the Petition. It's a combination of
- 1:16:48performance marks and bonus points because World Athletics
- 1:16:53said, so yeah. And that is weird.
- 1:16:57And it's a, it's it's done on purpose.
- 1:17:02So the so, all I want to say about that is you just that's
- 1:17:06the updated one, right? Yes.
- 1:17:07After Nick hacks and after Europeans, yes.
- 1:17:10Where is the NCAA championships on that list number five?
- 1:17:14So, uh, Understand, read the top five again, worlds, worlds,
- 1:17:18Europeans, USA championships Commonwealth ncaa's.
- 1:17:24So understand how amazing the NCAA me is because I assure you.
- 1:17:30If you understand how this works, the NCAA is put at such a
- 1:17:36competitive disadvantage on the point system and they're still
- 1:17:40number five. Number five, right, that Amy is
- 1:17:44better. Yeah.
- 1:17:46Every meat on that list except world's except world so so
- 1:17:52here's what's wild, right? We you know we always and and
- 1:17:55I'm going to say this that you it's the floor is yours.
- 1:17:58We always talk about how Euro centered the this board is and
- 1:18:02we always talk about how much it means to the world, right, like
- 1:18:06to Europe. So let's be clear if you are
- 1:18:10English. You have access to the number
- 1:18:14one, the number two and the number for meat as far as
- 1:18:18rankings power this year. Yes.
- 1:18:22Right. They have that such a number
- 1:18:23five as well now but but like okay I think he's a really good
- 1:18:37dude and he's a very good Sprinter.
- 1:18:40Right sound, but that dude, that dudes.
- 1:18:45You know 2012 or whatever. He's going to run at Worlds.
- 1:18:51Europeans and Commonwealth Games is going to make him
- 1:18:55Untouchable. Yes.
- 1:18:57By Josephus Lyles whose PV is under 20, that's right gonna
- 1:19:02make him Untouchable. Yeah, that's my point.
- 1:19:06That's why I have the issue with the rankings now if the if the
- 1:19:09rankings were as they should right?
- 1:19:11Okay, golf. Does it?
- 1:19:12They got five Majors. They score the most points.
- 1:19:15Then they know they got tears if it was like that I live with it.
- 1:19:20Yeah, I live with it because all this, in all area championships
- 1:19:24are not created equal. I'm sorry if you're going to put
- 1:19:27US championships and Commonwealth in the same
- 1:19:30conversation, like that's exactly.
- 1:19:41There you go. Big 12's with number 12, and
- 1:20:12Pac-12 the number 18 right now. So, we all over make a list.
- 1:20:23Every Governor, can you send me a link to that list?
- 1:20:32Oh absolutely. I'm intrigued by the list.
- 1:20:35Yeah, it so it's it. Attract nerd out there.
- 1:20:47There is nothing you can do that will irritate you more and be
- 1:20:51more interesting than to teach yourself a fundamental
- 1:20:54understanding of how the rankings were.
- 1:20:57Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:20:57I agree. I'm definitely like that's a
- 1:21:00challenge accepted. I will, I will have that Locked
- 1:21:03In by next week, Jamaican Champs and number 21.
- 1:21:08See, that's so disrespectful thing.
- 1:21:12Well, you gotta you gotta run under 1080.
- 1:21:16The top three, let's expand this a little bit, so different
- 1:21:22subject, same call. It parameters necessity, loose
- 1:21:27word to be thrown around right now with the new world standards
- 1:21:31that they've been. They've been published and for
- 1:21:33everyone to let's call it take in digest and quote-unquote.
- 1:21:39Understand what are your thoughts about them?
- 1:21:43What do they mean? What's it's the same game?
- 1:21:48It is ranking, right? It's literally the same game.
- 1:21:51So everybody's freaking out on in social media and in the in
- 1:21:55the track space about oh my God the rankings are so difficult.
- 1:21:59Now guys, that's on purpose because they want the World
- 1:22:04Championships to be qualified by, you know, world ranking
- 1:22:09system. So they were make the standards
- 1:22:12almost impossible. You'll have five six people that
- 1:22:16can hit them. And then everybody else in the
- 1:22:18meat has to get in by the rent. Yep, I think.
- 1:22:22Will pay off the most about it. I think what pissed me off the
- 1:22:24most the most about it is they made it uneven for no particular
- 1:22:28reason, like how about you just do stuff?
- 1:22:31Like just just do it in the jacked up fashion.
- 1:22:34Let's just say the world championship standard is.
- 1:22:36What's 10, can the world? I mean, that'd be clean, right?
- 1:22:41That would be so much cleaner, that'd be so much cleaner,
- 1:22:44because then no event, could complain, right?
- 1:22:46So if you had to be tough, if the standard was equal to the
- 1:22:50performance that is 10th in the world at this year's, like for
- 1:22:54this year's season, everybody would get it.
- 1:22:58There will be no complaints. The issue is The standards fall.
- 1:23:05So very at Lee, on the World list.
- 1:23:10Like, okay, so what are you guys are way faster at the internet
- 1:23:13than me? I know the world championship
- 1:23:14standings, 100 men's hundred is ten flat since we've been told
- 1:23:19more than once on this show that that serviceable.
- 1:23:22How far down? How far down the the world
- 1:23:25Athletics performance list. This season is 1000, start with
- 1:23:32the u.s. list is probably. I mean, 100%.
- 1:23:39I mean, the u.s. list would further prove my point, right?
- 1:23:42Because there's probably like 12 or 15 dudes with that standard
- 1:23:47in the US. Yep.
- 1:23:55So what why? Why is that relevant?
- 1:23:58Because I'll just go to the one that I know that's mostly near
- 1:24:01and dear to my heart, the the decathlon standard is 8460.
- 1:24:08There are eight people in the world with that standard and one
- 1:24:12of them is is a Hummer who has the second for this long jump in
- 1:24:17the world. And he just got that standard
- 1:24:20barely last week. Yeah.
- 1:24:26Tant. There are 30 humans under 10
- 1:24:29flat. Yep.
- 1:24:31Okay. So, do you see what I'm saying?
- 1:24:3311 American, you make a world championship standard that 11
- 1:24:37Americans, have and eight Global people have in the decathlon and
- 1:24:42truster is here is 35 times the 35 or 30 feet.
- 1:24:47It's worse in some other field events.
- 1:24:49I think the deck is probably, I think by none by World list, I
- 1:24:54think it might be the worst. But there's others that are
- 1:24:56right in that 789 range. And that just doesn't make it.
- 1:25:01Like listen like I said, if they said the standard was 8th in the
- 1:25:05world, I'd actually be okay with because at least it's clean.
- 1:25:10Because the question you then have is, how did they come up
- 1:25:13with the standards? How do you get 8460 in 10 flat?
- 1:25:21For the record in the men's hundred.
- 1:25:23If you wanted number 10, to be the standard, it would be 990.
- 1:25:29See that makes sense to me? What would be tempting?
- 1:25:33The 200, I'm gonna guess, I think 10th in the 200 is like,
- 1:25:36night is fumble and the crew at 1983.
- 1:25:43Pretty close, Andrew Hudson 1987 hmm tents tents in the World
- 1:25:50list C so that's what I'm saying.
- 1:25:52Like why not just make it 10 feet across the board because
- 1:25:56then it will be unveiled right? We would know what they were
- 1:25:59doing. The top 10 people get automatic
- 1:26:03qualifiers for worlds, and then you got all these different by Z
- 1:26:06that you can get, right? You got.
- 1:26:10So if the neck, Champions you want to give the top 10 of by no
- 1:26:15know that there's no, that's the auto standard.
- 1:26:18It's not a by that. They're in the steering, the
- 1:26:19meat got. Okay.
- 1:26:21Okay. Right.
- 1:26:22Threw me off was just so I got no, no.
- 1:26:24So you got these other, you know ways to get in, right?
- 1:26:27If did not come again, when it gets inside the 35 people. 35
- 1:26:32humans have 15 Flats have run 1000 little bit.
- 1:26:37The remember 11 of those are Americans so you can only four
- 1:26:41of them. Four of those Americans
- 1:26:43participate. Yep.
- 1:26:44Yes, could eliminate seven. So you down, 28 our way.
- 1:26:48And I'm sure there are other countries that have the same
- 1:26:49situation. Yeah, one other country to make.
- 1:26:56Okay, that's more than 34 people more than three people on make
- 1:27:05money to make the maker has to make.
- 1:27:06It has six, right? So Jamaica and absolutely,
- 1:27:10that's a to Country problem, so that's half the half the list
- 1:27:15is. Yes.
- 1:27:17Yeah. Yep.
- 1:27:21Yes. Well, okay, so of that 35,
- 1:27:23right? Like listen, I like this thought
- 1:27:26to Solutions is point of that. 35 7 are automatically
- 1:27:31disqualified from the US and three are automatically
- 1:27:33disqualified from Jamaica, right?
- 1:27:36So that's 10. You still stick a list of 25.
- 1:27:40Yeah. Like and the numbers are stupid
- 1:27:44and orange and I say it's too big as this because there should
- 1:27:47never be that kind of disparity when it comes to qualifying
- 1:27:49standards for me. Did you shouldn't be?
- 1:27:54Yeah, it was too. It was too clean and as always
- 1:27:57and World Athletics World, they always miss the Mark.
- 1:28:02We know what they're trying to do, right?
- 1:28:03Like we all get it. So would you say that that idea
- 1:28:09and the thinking is to get away from a 10-day World Championship
- 1:28:13meet and start to shrink this thing, you know, in 25 days, you
- 1:28:21know, you're not there, you're not going to decrease the
- 1:28:23numbers. No.
- 1:28:25Okay. Yeah.
- 1:28:26I don't think they have any interest in in decreasing the
- 1:28:29number of days. I think they love the 10-day
- 1:28:31schedule and they promote off the 10 day schedule.
- 1:28:34And and let's be clear. This also like for us, like, it
- 1:28:40used to be a time when they're little standard were a problem
- 1:28:43for the US. Do not a problem.
- 1:28:45Any of another problem? Now, don't know again because,
- 1:28:48you know, we know how this works.
- 1:28:49Okay, the standards, 10 flat, that means next year, they're
- 1:28:52gonna be 20 people there 110 class, First the versus level.
- 1:28:55It's what we do. 18 under 20 point on the men's side.
- 1:29:00Yeah, yeah, yeah. And let's let, I mean crazy.
- 1:29:04I'm speaking for myself, I'm not complaining that the standards
- 1:29:07are too difficult, I'm complaining about the game, the,
- 1:29:12the shrewd game that is being played to push the ranking
- 1:29:17system, which is what's the inept?
- 1:29:20And I'm saying about, we have to be handedness of the game.
- 1:29:24Yes, it's until the end, so let's be clear.
- 1:29:26It's their game, right? So they're going to set it up,
- 1:29:29so she'll win. Exactly.
- 1:29:31So they're going to set up so they can win the game.
- 1:29:33So let's not act like we're surprised to hear that, man.
- 1:29:39So, this, what I was trying to ask, if the neck at Champion,
- 1:29:46can get a bye in two World Championships to the European
- 1:29:52Champion, get, and that's an area.
- 1:29:54A championship, right? Yes, yeah.
- 1:29:56So so, do all area championships, get in.
- 1:30:00So look again, look at that list.
- 1:30:04There are those worlds Europeans USA's, Knack, ack, Mediterranean
- 1:30:12games, ibero-american games, those are all area
- 1:30:15championships. All those years get a pass.
- 1:30:19Exactly. So so the idea, so here's here's
- 1:30:23the back. Or you're now seeing what the
- 1:30:26back door conversation has been right?
- 1:30:29All of these federation's have gotten together and said, hey
- 1:30:32we're getting hammered here. We're not getting our best
- 1:30:35athletes to come to our area championships.
- 1:30:38How can we make it? So they see the value in coming,
- 1:30:43right? Europeans, I mean, they're well
- 1:30:46on their way. They've already established that
- 1:30:49neat as the meet the front European championships are After
- 1:30:54the World Championships on the schedule, I mean, come on, like
- 1:30:58they're athletes that literally skipped, whorls and went 100%
- 1:31:05100%. That is that is completely
- 1:31:08upside down, right? So, you know, you gotta, you
- 1:31:12gotta look at what's happening here and the fact that, you
- 1:31:16know, these meats mean a lot when it comes to rankings,
- 1:31:21right? And incentivized.
- 1:31:24These means and and let me say this because I mean, just
- 1:31:29through our own conversations. II.
- 1:31:34Do not believe that it is widely understood from an American
- 1:31:38perspective. That if you go to neck hack, and
- 1:31:41when you got a pass into world's next, are you go, because
- 1:31:46lately? Get the roster of who, there's
- 1:31:50no way that are that people understood that.
- 1:31:53Coaches don't know. That athletes, don't know that
- 1:31:56agents. It's your job to know that.
- 1:31:58Exactly. So, like when I brought that in
- 1:32:00our group chat, a couple of y'all didn't know that, That was
- 1:32:03like I'm going to be honest. I'm not the smartest guy in the
- 1:32:05room. I only know that because the
- 1:32:09Bahamian decathletes were split one was at World Championships
- 1:32:13and one was at Commonwealth Games for that very reason.
- 1:32:17Wow, that's amazing. Wow.
- 1:32:23Truly I said you all did look to be crazy when I said too boxy
- 1:32:27and there you have it. You're welcome.
- 1:32:31You didn't think it was coming, did you?
- 1:32:34Well let's let's settle up this to bakri with a little round of
- 1:32:38a. Would you rather?
- 1:32:40And the governor has stepped in to the pool wholeheartedly?
- 1:32:46Right. No chickening out now.
- 1:32:51So you ready sir? Yes I am.
- 1:32:53All right, would you rather get a paper cut or bite?
- 1:32:56Bite your cheek paper cut? Would you rather lose your sense
- 1:33:03of smell or sense of taste? God, I'd rather use lose my
- 1:33:13sense of smell. Would you be able to, okay?
- 1:33:17Would you rather only be able to go out at night or only in the
- 1:33:20day? Find a day.
- 1:33:26We're going to go out during the day.
- 1:33:29Yeah. Would you rather have an
- 1:33:32additional round of races or an additional round of jumps?
- 1:33:39This is tailored to you sir. This is really tailored to you.
- 1:33:46Jumps jumps, got it. I had a feeling it was gonna go
- 1:33:49to that one because you never had no issues with qualifying.
- 1:33:57Would you rather get spiked or drop a discus on your toe
- 1:34:03discus? Really.
- 1:34:06Oh, yeah. Yeah, yes, interest rates reason
- 1:34:11is. And there's it was a, it was a,
- 1:34:14it was a tick tock that described what it is to, like,
- 1:34:18drop something on your foot and it was like this huge, you know,
- 1:34:23cinematic moment and then like about 30 seconds later.
- 1:34:27All right. Let's go.
- 1:34:28Let's keep going. That's true.
- 1:34:33All right. No one would you rather have to
- 1:34:37offer a crouton the very first call or only on what we used to
- 1:34:42call the signing day? But like the last day before
- 1:34:44they sign, if it was a uniform on the call?
- 1:34:48Got it? Yes.
- 1:34:51No, go ahead. No, no.
- 1:34:53It's would you rather only recruit the portal, or only
- 1:34:58recruit the Juco system, or do I guess?
- 1:35:04Optical system, maybe not the future system of repair
- 1:35:18or two piece. I guess a one piece.
- 1:35:22Versus a two piece. 22 got it. Hey I mean you're just yeah I'm
- 1:35:31not going to go there gentlemen, it's all yours.
- 1:35:39The wheels are spinning. Okay, so Let's see.
- 1:35:47I was going to say, we would you rather coach in the ACC or the
- 1:35:50SEC, but I'm not gonna This is true as well.
- 1:36:11So, would you rather learn to coach, the teashop put, our
- 1:36:19learn to coach a pole at a very high level pole vault, I mean
- 1:36:28that that that isn't still to this day, it intrigues me all
- 1:36:33the intricacies and nuances, you know, I mean, moving the moving
- 1:36:38the bars and all that stuff and what goals should be illegal to
- 1:36:43have to coach the pole. Vault, it is like I can imagine.
- 1:36:49I wonder if anyone's ever written pole vault for dummies
- 1:36:54like a handbook because I'm that, that handbook would be
- 1:36:56about this. Because the amount of scenarios
- 1:37:01that would just pop up. Like, come on man, I mean it's
- 1:37:04crazy. And then the jargon like when
- 1:37:08you describe holes and come on, man, I had no idea.
- 1:37:15Alright sir it's not an either/or okay?
- 1:37:20Had to leave Collegiate Athletics as a profession and
- 1:37:26work directly for a federation as a professional coach, which
- 1:37:32Federation would it be? In what capacity?
- 1:37:37Like my talking like front office?
- 1:37:38I were talking no, no. As a coach sprinkles, jump goes,
- 1:37:41whatever you post, which iteration would you prefer to
- 1:37:45work for? I think it's a toss-up between
- 1:37:58Qatar and Bahrain for the bag. Wow, I understand this China is
- 1:38:15trying to coach for that 180 thousand dollar back.
- 1:38:19Run some errands for governor. Thank you.
- 1:38:22Thank you. I guess it's my turn.
- 1:38:27Yeah, it was. Is it yours big lie?
- 1:38:32All you asked all the questions. I forgot.
- 1:38:34I'm trying to be. You know, why?
- 1:38:37It was nothing. There's nothing in the cup of
- 1:38:39water just so we're clear. Okay, water and limes.
- 1:38:42I promise. Oh man.
- 1:38:48I'm trying to be good. Trying to have a good one.
- 1:38:52What would you do in the whole time?
- 1:38:53We were asking questions, I was laughing at the questions.
- 1:39:01Okay. If you were allowed to go back
- 1:39:06in the Wayback machine and you just about to be a professional,
- 1:39:11but you had to change event groups all together, so you
- 1:39:16could not be a jumper and you could not be a sprinter, would
- 1:39:20you be a walker? Thrower.
- 1:39:26Or distance Runner. Thrower.
- 1:39:32Thrower walking and long-distance, not in my DNA.
- 1:39:46I just want a picture. I want a picture, the governor's
- 1:39:49calves as a race Walker. No, no, no.
- 1:39:55That's that's as easy as it gets.
- 1:39:58Oh man. Oh my God.
- 1:40:00That's funny. Well, that rounds out.
- 1:40:04Would you rather will wrap up real quick with some heartbeat

- 1:42:03weekend was the first time in three years that we have done
- 1:42:07this in person. You know, it's it kind of brings
- 1:42:12it home as to how special, you know, it is to be able to get
- 1:42:17these kids, you know, the proper entrance to, you know, such an
- 1:42:23important part of their lives and yeah.
- 1:42:26Harvey props goes out to the incoming class and, you know,
- 1:42:29looking forward to great things and 20 22 and 23.
- 1:42:35I want to give a heartbeat props to all the heads and assistant
- 1:42:39coaches trainers. And all the other people out
- 1:42:42there that are starting to jobs, when I wish you guys, all the
- 1:42:45best, been a lot of turnover. And as we will, I'm sure discuss
- 1:42:50more in the future. There's still a lot of turnover
- 1:42:52going on. Yes.
