- 1:04and the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers have won 5 of 6 with the Padres here, 9 of 15 on
- 1:10the full season. We'll be underway with tonight's game in a moment. Now here is our national
- 1:14anthem.
- 1:15Thank you and we'll start at it again as well.
- 2:15on the way in a few moments.
- 2:29I will check the scoreboard before the Dodgers go out there in the ninth inning of the second
- 2:34game of a doubleheader at Pittsburgh.
- 2:36The match won the first game one to nothing.
- 2:38The match are leading the second game one to nothing and boy they're trying to double
- 2:41the hard-hitting ball club twice one to nothing and that's really a tough job.
- 2:46Don Cardwell is working in the second game.
- 2:48First game the Mets won it one to nothing as Kuzma pitch a three-hitter and drove in
- 2:53the winning run.
- 2:54The Cardinals have had to make a pitching change in the eighth inning against the Cubs
- 2:58at St. Louis.
- 2:59Now the Dodgers take the field.
- 3:00In the game at St. Louis, Chicago won, St. Louis won but as we told you, Horner has come
- 3:08into relief Taylor in the eighth so the Cubs now try to snap an 18-losing streak.
- 3:13The Mets have won eight straight.
- 3:16Atlanta beat Houston four to three, saving off a three-run rally by Houston in the eighth
- 3:22inning.
- 3:23Stone the winner and Griffin the loser and Stone had a home run in the seventh inning
- 3:27one on and it turned out to be the margin in the ball game.
- 3:30So hitting pitchers tonight, the story.
- 3:32Kuzma drove in the winning run to beat Pittsburgh and Stone drove in two runs with a home run
- 3:37to beat Houston.
- 3:39San Francisco and Cincinnati will play at San Francisco and will keep you up to date
- 3:42on that one with a play-by-play report from Candlestick Park.
- 3:46Arrigo and Marishaw, Arrigo two and six, Marishaw 17 and 10.
- 3:50Meanwhile in the game that means nothing, Montreal beat Philadelphia four to nothing.
- 3:55American League doubleheader first game three to one in favor of Seattle over California
- 3:59and in that game another hitting pitcher, George Burnett, hit a home run in the second
- 4:03inning with none on.
- 4:07Final scores are in, Baltimore beat Cleveland two to one, Washington beat Detroit four to
- 4:11three, Boston and New York split a doubleheader and New York won the first game five-three,
- 4:16Boston the night cap four-three.
- 4:18Kansas City and Minnesota it is three to nothing, Minnesota leading in the eighth inning and
- 4:23Oakland leads Chicago 12 to four in the ninth inning.
- 4:28So about set, Bill Singer tried to get number 19 tonight, did not make it his last time
- 4:35out against the Padres but he beat Atlanta in the first game of that series on Monday.
- 4:41So Singer will be ready to go here against the Padres in the first game of this series.
- 4:48Time to play ball, the Dodgers and San Diego from beautiful Dodger Stadium and now for
- 4:52the play-by-play, here's Vince Gulley.
- 4:54Billy, thank you Jerry, hi everybody and a very pleasant good evening to you and ever
- 4:57may be and here we go again, another chapter in the Wild West show in the National League
- 5:04and it'll be Jose Arceus is started off, he'll be followed by Roberto Pena and Olly Brown.
- 5:10Arceus, rangey right hand hitting second baseman, enjoyed a fine series against the Dodgers
- 5:16as did just about the entire ball club.
- 5:19Arceus does not have any kind of a flossing batting average, he's hitting only 196.
- 5:24However, he's had some timely bases.
- 5:27Bill Singer starts him with a fastball, a throw down to Sizemore, Ted picks it up and
- 5:32throws him out.
- 5:33One pitch and one away and the ball game officially underway and the battle will be Roberto Pena.
- 5:40The Chicago Cubs were struggling, they were trailing 1-0 at the end of six innings, they
- 5:48got a run in the seventh inning to tie and now in the eighth the Cubs have gotten four
- 5:54so they're leading the Cardinals 5-1 in the bottom of the eighth.
- 5:58Meanwhile, Tug McGraw has had to come in and pitch the ninth inning of the second game
- 6:02at Pittsburgh.
- 6:03Here's Pena, he's a hot hitter, he takes a breaking ball for a strike, going one.
- 6:08Roberto Pena hitting 240 with four home runs, 26 RBIs, hit a two run home run in Cincinnati,
- 6:17strike one pitch on the way, breaking ball hits the right field, Crawford comes in right
- 6:21there now and makes the catch.
- 6:29Throw two down and here's the right fielder, Olly Brown.
- 6:34Olly has had a bad back, he's alright now.
- 6:44Olly Brown hitting 257, he has 18 home runs, 52 runs batted in.
- 6:52Bill Singer on the rubber, into the windup and delivers, fastball high and away, ball
- 6:57one.
- 6:58Singer in quest of his 19, Claude Osteen reached that plateau last night.
- 7:05Singer comes right back to the plate, 1-0, fastball low, ball two.
- 7:10Full prior of the plate umpire, Tony Vinson at first, Mike Shikori at second, Dave Davidson
- 7:15at third.
- 7:16First game of the weekend series with the San Diego Padres.
- 7:20Now the 2-0 pitch on the way, fastball hit off Singer's right leg, cams over towards
- 7:27the third base foul line and no play.
- 7:30Bagnamara got any more on the foot than the leg.
- 7:33A shot struck him on the right leg.
- 7:36Olly Brown is safely aboard, Singer has not even bothered to rub.
- 7:41So he's a fortunate young man, apparently he's okay and the battle will be out for
- 7:47all of.
- 7:48Line drive, it struck Singer on the right leg.
- 7:51Bill now walking back up to the top and he is now starting to hurt a little bit.
- 7:57It got him I think just below the ankle.
- 8:00I think it struck him but it happened so fast on the right foot.
- 8:04And after getting back up to the mound he realized that now the numbness has gone and
- 8:08the pain is settling in.
- 8:10And so Singer struck by the line drive off the bat of Olly Brown and time out.
- 8:15Bill Diller menacing to him now.
- 8:17Parker Sizemore and manager Walter Olson also out there.
- 8:21And Bill now trying to walk it off.
- 8:25As a right hander naturally that is the push off foot and he's going to practice it right
- 8:30now.
- 8:33Singer says I'm all right, okay, that's good enough.
- 8:37For Bill stung by the line drive for a base hit, makes one practice toss and says he's
- 8:42okay.
- 8:48Al Ferraro hitting 271 with 13 home runs, 53 runs batted in.
- 8:58So Ferraro checks in with Olly Brown at first base.
- 9:00Brown has stolen seven bases and the first thing Singer does is driving back with a toss.
- 9:15Singer after Brown and Bill delivers breaking ball down and away.
- 9:19One ball and no strikes to Al Ferraro.
- 9:30Al strong right hand batter.
- 9:32Singer's got another look at Brown back with a fast ball in there for a strike one and
- 9:36one.
- 9:37Bill Singer came home ahead of the ball club yesterday.
- 9:41The Dodgers arriving about 2.30 this morning from Houston.
- 9:46Play now through Perse and then go back out on the road.
- 9:51One one six, slow curve is fouled away in the count one and two.
- 9:55The Dodgers go quickly on their last road trip after this home stand.
- 9:59They go to San Francisco and Cincinnati and that will be that.
- 10:02They come home and dig in for the final home stand of the year and then we'll see or will
- 10:08we.
- 10:11One and two to Al Ferraro.
- 10:16Singer delivers Brown goes it's one on and missed strike three.
- 10:20Bill Al Ferraro strikes out and in the first inning no runs one hit a man left and at the
- 10:25end of half an inning Padres nothing and the Dodgers coming out.
- 10:29You know it wasn't long ago when the Dodgers were known as Bums and they went to some ridiculous
- 10:33extremes during that nickname.
- 10:35A Dodger outfielder was once hit on the head by a fly ball.
- 10:38Tell us and all the shame and three Dodger runners ended up on third base at the same
- 10:42time.
- 10:43Yes fans still remember that famous Dodger who obliged the crowd by tipping his hat and
- 10:48the bird flew out of it.
- 10:49Who was that?
- 10:50Sure Casey Singles.
- 10:51But today there's a new team and there's a new way to enjoy Dodger excitement.
- 10:55Fans are discovering that a good time is more thrilling with the chilling refreshments of
- 11:00Schlitz Malt Liquor.
- 11:01You just can't outscore the bolder brawnier performance of the drink inspired by a bowl.
- 11:07Schlitz Malt Liquor.
- 11:08Age longer with more hops and more.
- 11:11So anytime the action picks up be sure to pick up a can of Schlitz Malt Liquor.
- 11:17There isn't a better way to beat a third.
- 11:20And believe us the word is out.
- 11:22Nobody makes more liquor like Schlitz.
- 11:25Nobody.
- 11:32Bottom of the first inning will set San Diego defensively right into Al Santorini on the
- 11:36mound and Chris Canagero behind the plate.
- 11:39The infield Nate Colbert at first, Jose Arcia at second, Roberto Pena at short and Van Kelly
- 11:46at third.
- 11:47In the outfield Al Ferraro in left, Jerry Morales in center and Ollie Brown in right.
- 11:53For the Dodgers it will be Maury Wills, Manny Motta and Willie Davis.
- 11:57Well a New York match did what most folks would figure to be impossible.
- 12:01In a double header at Ford Field in Pittsburgh they shut out the Pirates twice, one to nothing.
- 12:08And you have really got to have some strong arms to do that for Pittsburgh.
- 12:13That's exactly what they have.
- 12:15Jerry Kuzmin in the first game, pitch for three hitters.
- 12:18Don Cardwell and Todd McGraw pitch a five hitter.
- 12:22So the Mets throw a double shutout at the Pirates in Pittsburgh.
- 12:26Identical score of one to nothing.
- 12:28That's got to be one of the pitching feats of the year.
- 12:32One of the stronger feats to match that, the Dodgers have back to back shutouts in Crosley Field against Cincinnati.
- 12:39Maury Wills at the plate and takes the strike.
- 12:42Maury with a modest hitting streak of 11 straight.
- 12:49Maury hitting left handed, batting 279, takes the strike.
- 12:540-2 Al Santorini, one of the fine young pitchers in the league.
- 12:59And boy there are a lot of young pitchers.
- 13:02Goodwin.
- 13:04Clay Kirby, pitch for Dandy the other night in Cincinnati.
- 13:07Here's the strike two pitch on the way.
- 13:09Outside ball one, one and two.
- 13:11Dodgers know all about Gary Ross, they saw him in this series.
- 13:18One and two to count to Maury Wills.
- 13:21A series of one nine of 15, five out of six here.
- 13:25Of course they were tripped in San Diego.
- 13:28Here's the one two pitch on the way.
- 13:30Breaking ball, hit the left field, 12 straight games for Maury Wills.
- 13:41That'll bring up Manny Moda.
- 13:50Who has been having his problems with his elbow and it is therefore reflected in his batting average.
- 13:55Still hitting 326.
- 13:57Wally Moon is now moving Jerry Morales more towards right center than left center.
- 14:05And Moda now at the plate.
- 14:07Santorini looks over at Wills, checks and delivers and a pitch inside.
- 14:10Moda trying to get around the front, had to get out of there and to count one ball and no strikes.
- 14:19Wills takes his lead, Santorini checks him as he bluffs and doesn't go.
- 14:31The pitch to Moda, breaking ball for a strike and a count one and one.
- 14:37Wills has stolen 39 bases.
- 14:39He's been caught 14 times.
- 14:45That's the start of the ball game, bottom of the first inning, but they're all big from here on in.
- 14:50Santorini ready to pitch to Moda, bowed away with a full swing in the count one and two.
- 14:57Dodgers here over the weekend with San Diego, then Monday night, Cincinnati.
- 15:02Tuesday night, a twilight night double header with the Reds.
- 15:05Wednesday and Thursday night with the Atlanta Braves.
- 15:13Turn two to Manny Moda.
- 15:15Santorini decides you better drive Wills back to the bag.
- 15:24Wills, who very likely would be a spearhead attack for the Dodgers in the month of September,
- 15:30he has always played exceptional ball in September.
- 15:37Santorini has a look at him and there he goes.
- 15:40Moda hits a slow ground ball to Nate Solbers and the first baseman goes to the bag,
- 15:45and Wills advances to second base.
- 15:51Here's Willie Davis.
- 16:00Willie Davis was pretty well stopped in the ballpark in which he figured to be successful.
- 16:07Here's Houston.
- 16:20Cincinnati up at Candlestick Park, we'll watch that game carefully.
- 16:23Arrigo and Marichal.
- 16:25Willie rolls one slowly up on first base.
- 16:28Santorini throws him out and Wills takes third.
- 16:33Arrigo and Juan Marichal at Candlestick and the Reds fail to score in the first inning.
- 16:43That'll bring up Wes Parker.
- 16:51Wes Parker has been fighting a slump.
- 16:56In fact, he really went into the slump when the Dodgers left home and went to San Diego.
- 17:02We're hoping now that back home he'll shake loose and he fouls the first one back.
- 17:06Oh and one.
- 17:10Kasey joined us a little late.
- 17:12Morrie Wills strangled and two outs later he's at third base.
- 17:18Santorini checking with Cannigel.
- 17:21Kelly right near the bag is third.
- 17:23Strike one pitch to Parker.
- 17:24Ground ball wide at first.
- 17:26Solbered up with it, feeds to Santorini and that's it.
- 17:29No runs, one hit.
- 17:31One man left and at the end of one, no score.
- 17:35When a ballplayer spends more time than usual in the minor leagues, you often hear the expression,
- 17:39well they're bringing him along slowly.
- 17:41Well Farmer John brings his hands along slowly too.
- 17:44When he smokes his hands he just won't be hurried.
- 17:47No indeed.
- 17:49He smokes them slowly and patiently, not just for a couple of hours, but for several days.
- 17:55And he does the smoking a secret, old-time Western way over needed Western woods.
- 18:00Still there's a genuine flavor of the West in every sweet succulent slice, slice after slice.
- 18:06Farmer John ham is as fresh as you can buy too.
- 18:09It's made from Frank Eastern corn-fed pork,
- 18:11grown out here live and dressed fresh right here in the West.
- 18:14Most other packers ship their pork in frozen or cold storage.
- 18:17Go get a Farmer John ham soon and if you can't tell which of the hams in the meat department are from Farmer John,
- 18:23ask the butchers.
- 18:24Farmer John ham, gold medal winner at the California State Fair.
- 18:28It's the Eastern most in quality and the Western most in flavor.
- 18:33Through the second inning here at Dodger Stadium, no score in the ballgame, the Padres and the Dodgers.
- 18:43Checking the scores of other ballgames, Montreal shut out Philadelphia 4 to nothing.
- 18:47The New York Mets have now won nine in a row,
- 18:51sweeping a double header from the Pittsburgh Pirates in Pittsburgh, each game the score 1 to nothing.
- 18:59Meanwhile, the Cubs are leading 5 to 1 in the bottom of the ninth at St. Louis,
- 19:03but they figure to lose at least a half a game anyway.
- 19:06Atlanta beat Houston 4 to 3.
- 19:11It is 4 to 1, Seattle leading California at the end of 8 in the first game.
- 19:15Minnesota beat Kansas City 3-0, Oakland over Chicago 12-4,
- 19:19Baltimore beat Cleveland 2-1, Washington over Detroit 4-3,
- 19:24and Boston and New York split a double header.
- 19:27The first pitch inside, ball one, to first baseman Nate Coburn.
- 19:36Now the 1-0 pitch on the way, hit to the hole, it's short, backhanded by Wills, a long throw,
- 19:42and it will get him. Oh, what a play.
- 19:52Roy Wills, who has always played sensational ball in the month of September,
- 19:58even way back in his rookie year with the Dodgers, 1959,
- 20:02he was the spearhead in the attack that gave the Dodgers the exciting playoff victory,
- 20:05pennant, and championship, year 345.
- 20:11So Wills, playing great ball, throws out Coburn,
- 20:15and the batter is Van Kelly, who takes outside, ball one.
- 20:19In the next double header, it should be pointed out Jerry Kruseman
- 20:23drove his only run of the year to win the first game 1-0.
- 20:29Don Cardwell, who is a good hitting pitcher, drove in the only run in the night cap,
- 20:34so the pitchers did it both ways, and the Mets swept the double header
- 20:37by the identical scores of 1-0.
- 20:40Now the 2-0 pitch on the way to Van Kelly, high ball 3, 3-0.
- 20:47By the way, to all of our Jewish friends who might be listening,
- 20:50a very blessed and sacred Rosh Hashanah to you,
- 20:53the high holidays begin today, it's terminated on Yom Kippur.
- 20:58The pitch high to Kelly, ball 4, so our best wishes to all of you.
- 21:04There's the walk to Kelly and the batter, Jerry Morales, the center fielder.
- 21:09The outfielder, Fulio Morales.
- 21:14Fulio, our player is calling Jerry, hitting 2-31.
- 21:18He has one home run he hit at the other night in Cincinnati, right hand batter.
- 21:24The Dodgers saw him briefly in San Diego.
- 21:26He was used as a pinch runner for Al Ferraro and finished up a couple of games,
- 21:32but Nate Colbert has made out Kelly Walsh, and now here is Morales.
- 21:37In the outfield, Olly Brown has had a sore back, but he's okay.
- 21:40Clarence Gaston has a bad foot, and Morales is playing in center tonight.
- 21:50Willie Mays hit into a double play in the first inning, so the Giants failed his score,
- 21:53and at the end they won a candlestick, no score.
- 21:57Meanwhile, the Cubs beat the Cardinals 5-1, but they still lose a half a game
- 22:02since the Mets swept the double header.
- 22:06The Dodgers, Morales, Bunch foul up along first.
- 22:11The total for the Cubs, five runs, nine hits.
- 22:14The Cardinals, one run, seven hits.
- 22:16Bill Hands won his 17th.
- 22:18Chuck Taylor lost it.
- 22:240-1, the count to Jerry Morales.
- 22:27Chris Canagero on deck.
- 22:30Sudeikerson on the grass at third.
- 22:32Singer looks to first, works Morales tight, and the count, one ball, one fight.
- 22:471-1, the count to Morales.
- 22:49Right hand hitting center fielded.
- 22:51Singer throws to first base, not in time.
- 22:59Morales scores a second inning just to start of the ballgames.
- 23:031-1 pitch on the way.
- 23:04Morales drives it to deep right center field.
- 23:06It's looking away from Gayless, and it's going to go against the wall.
- 23:09Willie plays the count.
- 23:10Here's Kelly on his way around third.
- 23:13The throw to Haller is over his head.
- 23:15It goes all the way to the backstop.
- 23:17To third base goes Morales, and San Diego leads 1-0.
- 23:24Good size for a made a long throw and failed it high over Tommy Haller's head.
- 23:29An accurate throw might have had him.
- 23:32At least it would have been a close play.
- 23:35But neither Haller nor the backup man, Singer, could even touch the ball as it hit the backstop screen.
- 23:41Sizemore will get an error allowing Morales to go to third.
- 23:46So San Diego leads 1-0.
- 23:50The batter will be Chris Cannesel.
- 24:02The infield is up with one out.
- 24:03The squeeze is on.
- 24:04The bunch is right through.
- 24:06Singer picked up by Will to throw to first.
- 24:09It's Sizemore for the out, but the run is over.
- 24:12So they squeeze it right by the charging Singer, and the play goes 6-4.
- 24:17So Cannesel on the sacrifice gets Morales home, and it is 2-0.
- 24:24And a run batted in for Cannesel.
- 24:28Singer hoped to charge and pushed the ball to Haller, but he never came close to the ball.
- 24:34But alertly, Wills was able to go behind the mound to throw out Cannesel.
- 24:39But Cannesel squeezed in a run against the Dodgers in San Diego, and he comes right back to do it again.
- 24:46A little surprise that he was able to do it on the first pitch.
- 24:53So the batter is Al Santorini, and he takes low, ball one.
- 25:002-0 San Diego in the second inning.
- 25:03Singer ready and delivers.
- 25:04Fastball for a strike, one and one.
- 25:14Now there's one-one pitch on the way.
- 25:16Fastball over, strike two, one and two.
- 25:23Two runs.
- 25:25On a walk, a double, a throwing error, and a squeeze.
- 25:29The one-two pitch to Santorini filed away with a full swing or first base upstairs.
- 25:36Still one and two.
- 25:48Santorini hits another foul out of play off to the right.
- 25:51Remains one ball and two strikes.
- 25:55That error by Ted Sizemore was a bit of a jolt to the Dodger defense because the defense is held up.
- 26:00They have made only two errors in their last ten games.
- 26:04Here's a one-two pitch, breaking ball high.
- 26:07The Dodgers ranked second in the league, fewest errors, back of Atlanta.
- 26:15The Dodgers have gotten fine defense, good pitching, and they have stopped hitting.
- 26:21It's as simple as that.
- 26:24Here's a one-two pitch to Al Santorini.
- 26:27Fastball inside, ball two.
- 26:30Santorini has seven hits this year, including one home run and two runs batted in.
- 26:38Two-two pitch, out swings and misses, that's that.
- 26:42That, however, means two runs for San Diego.
- 26:45Two runs, one hit, one error.
- 26:47At the end of an inning and a half for Padres, two in the Dodgers nothing.

- 27:48Bottom of the second inning, San Diego leading the Dodgers 2-0.
- 27:51Dodgers will have Willie Crawford, Bill Todaker, and Tom Hallers.
- 28:18The Reds went out in order in the second inning of the Candles search for the scoreless there in the bottom of the second inning.
- 28:24Jerry Urizo and Warren Marischoff.
- 28:27Here's Willie Crawford.
- 28:29Willie hitting 252, his nine home runs, 37 runs batted in.
- 28:34Al Santorini ready in the first one, a strike in at the knees edge of the corner.
- 28:39All-in-one.
- 28:47No balls, one strike to Willie Crawford.
- 28:50Santorini comes right back and a breaking ball is flung on and this strike two.
- 28:55Al Santorini, when you are in Atlanta as the Dodgers were recently, and you mention the name Santorini, all they do is shake your head.
- 29:05He's the boy that the bad arm operated on.
- 29:08They never expected him to be drafted.
- 29:11Strike two pitch, hit on the hands, a one-hopper to short, backhanded by Pena who throws Crawford out.
- 29:22Bill Todaker's coming up.
- 29:25Todaker hitting 235 with 14 home runs, 53 runs batted in.
- 29:30The Dodgers have not been able to score more than two runs since their last home game when they folded out against the Mets in the ninth inning and won the game five to four.
- 29:40Santorini delivers and the first one low and inside.
- 29:55Todaker started his playing in the hells.
- 29:57The bad raise her field and the plate umpire checks and now it's a strike.
- 30:01The umpire looks to the third base umpire, Davidson, who flashed a sign that Todaker had committed himself.
- 30:16Santorini into the windup and the strike one pitch on the way.
- 30:19He's hitting the dirt right through the legs at counter zero to the backstop.
- 30:33One and one, the Bills to Dodaker.
- 30:38He's got the shoulder for a strike in the count one and two.
- 30:52Santorini checking with counter zero.
- 30:54One two pitch, he's hit off the hands, rolled down to second base.
- 30:57Ikeya drops the ball as Pena falls down in front of him to give him a throwing area.
- 31:05Ikeya went across the bag and then realized he was in the way of the throw so he just fell down.
- 31:10But Ikeya was unable to come up with the ball.
- 31:12It was low as the base hit for Todaker and Nevada will be Tom Haller.
- 31:22Let's pause the station identification.
- 31:24This is the Los Angeles Dodgers Radio Network.
- 31:26For a year-round selection of the finest in women's fashion offered with a full range of accessories,
- 31:30this is Gigi Langerin, corporate at 18 East Camelback Road Phoenix where you can use your Arizona bank bank of America ATARC.
- 31:38Here's Tom Haller.
- 31:40Right hander Santorini delivers outside for one.
- 31:44Haller hitting 263.
- 31:46He has five home runs, 35 runs batted in.
- 31:51Nate Colbert not holding Todaker.
- 31:53They don't expect Bill to do any base running right now.
- 31:56Switch to Haller's low ball two, 2-0.
- 32:01For the Dodgers, game number 134, home game number 68.
- 32:13Here's the 2-0 pitch on the way, swung on and missed, 2-1.
- 32:21In fact, that can't be right.
- 32:34It's game number 142, the pitch inside to Tommy Haller, ball three.
- 32:463-1.
- 32:553-1 pitch to Haller filed away.
- 33:02Full count to Tom Haller, head size more on deck.
- 33:14Right hander Santorini ready, there goes Todaker and the pitch is slowly to the left of the mound.
- 33:19Santorini will throw Haller out and holding his second base, Todaker.
- 33:23So the Dodgers kind of nubbing the ball so far against Santorini and the batter will be Ted Seismore.
- 33:36Ted Seismore has been playing great ball at second base.
- 33:43He has hit safely in 23 of his last 30 games for a 371 average during that period.
- 33:51Size more is average over all 274.
- 33:58Two down, Todaker's at second base, San Diego two and the Dodgers nothing.
- 34:02You're in the bottom of the second inning.
- 34:04Santorini's first pick, a heartbreaking ball, low and away, ball one.
- 34:12Bill Singer on deck.
- 34:17Size more waiting, Santorini has a look and back he comes 1-0 and it's a ground ball to Troy.
- 34:23Taney on his right knee to make sure it doesn't go through, throws him out.
- 34:27So the Dodgers hitting ground balls and they leave a man.
- 34:30And at the end of two, San Diego two and the Dodgers nothing.

- 35:23When you're looking for someone to look after you, look up to 76.
- 35:38The total through two San Diego two runs, two hits, no errors.
- 35:42The Dodgers no runs, two hits and an error.
- 35:44In the second inning with one out Van Kelly Ward, Jerry Morales doubled him home.
- 35:49The throw by Sizemore as the relay man was high over the plate to the screen,
- 35:54allowing Morales to go to third and then Canadero squeezed him over.
- 35:58So it's two to nothing San Diego.
- 36:00We go to the third, so well play by play.
- 36:02Here's Jerry Dodgers.
- 36:03All right, buddy, top of the order now for San Diego.
- 36:05Arcia, Pena, and Brown coming on against Bill Singer.
- 36:09They're 18 and nine on the air, one and one with San Diego this season.
- 36:14So Bill finds himself two runs down now.
- 36:16The walk got him in trouble.
- 36:18Then he yielded the long double to Morales.
- 36:21Here's Arcia up now.
- 36:22He grounded out second to first his first time at bat.
- 36:27Right-hand batter waiting.
- 36:29And Singer now goes into the windup and his pitch on the way.
- 36:32Curve ball is a little low, ball one.
- 36:35One of those accounts.
- 36:38Claude Osteen last night got his seventh shot out of the air.
- 36:41That's the tops on the staff.
- 36:42Sutton has four.
- 36:43Singer has two.
- 36:45And oddly enough, Singer has only two, but he has a great earned run average.
- 36:49He has an earned run average of 1.94.
- 36:52So he just pitched a whole lot of games in which he's just allowed a run or two.
- 36:57Foul ball out of play to the right.
- 37:00One and one, but they shut out to keep avoiding Bill.
- 37:05Here's the one-one pitch to Arcia.
- 37:07Strike two on a fastball.
- 37:09One ball, two strikes.
- 37:12The Dodgers three with the Padres.
- 37:13Three with Cincinnati, including a doubleheader, Cousy, and then two with Atlanta.
- 37:17The windup is home stand next Thursday night.
- 37:21One ball, two strike counts.
- 37:23Singer ready, delivers.
- 37:25Curve ball bounced to third.
- 37:26Today to scoop it up.
- 37:27Here's the throw in time and one away.
- 37:31Arcia grounds out.
- 37:32One up and one down.
- 37:33And here's Singer.
- 37:34Fly to right his first time at bat.
- 37:41Pena batting 240 with four home runs and 26 runs batted in.
- 37:46Stocky built right-hand batter.
- 37:48Roberto Pena.
- 37:56A swing and a miss to Roberto.
- 37:57Strike one.
- 37:58He's played 125 games.
- 38:00Olly Brown leads the Padres in games played with 133.
- 38:06Ferraros played at 125.
- 38:09Here's the 0-1 pitch.
- 38:11Low and inside with a fastball.
- 38:12The count goes to one and one.
- 38:14One ball, one strike.
- 38:15The Mets won a doubleheader.
- 38:16They've now won nine straight.
- 38:18Picked up another half game on the Cubs.
- 38:20The Snaps an eighth game losing streak.
- 38:21Beating the Cardinals five to one.
- 38:26One ball and one strike to count on the Giants to pick up a run at Candlestick.
- 38:30And we'll give it to you in just a moment.
- 38:31A bouncy ball back to the middle in the center field at the base.
- 38:34It's Pena.
- 38:35And that is tip number three for San Diego.
- 38:40Willie McKevie grounded out.
- 38:44Bobby Barnes stuck out.
- 38:47Davenport walks.
- 38:50Wild pitch moves Davenport to second base.
- 38:55They walk Dick Deech.
- 38:58And Ramirez singles the left field to drive in the run.
- 39:02For the Giants lead on one run, one hit, no errors, and the big play was a wild pitch.
- 39:08That set up the runner in scoring position and then Lanier drove it in.
- 39:14Olly Brown takes inside.
- 39:16Ball one, one ball and no strikes.
- 39:17For the Giants at Candlestick now lead one to nothing over the Reds who started tonight's play one percentage point ahead of Atlanta and the Braves won from Houston four to three.
- 39:30One ball and no strikes.
- 39:32Here's the pitch on the way inside for ball two, two balls, no strikes.
- 39:36In that game at Atlanta, Ron Stone the pitcher hit a home run that turned out to be the game winner.
- 39:41It came in the seventh inning with a man on it.
- 39:43It was the fourth run for Atlanta.
- 39:45And then he had to go out in the eighth inning when Houston came back with three runs.
- 39:50For tonight the story is hitting pitchers.
- 39:53Kuzman blank Pittsburgh drove in the run.
- 39:56Cardwell blank Pittsburgh drove in the run.
- 39:59Durham beat Houston and drove in two with his first major league home run.
- 40:04Seattle beat California.
- 40:06Rennette hit a home run and he was the winning pitcher.
- 40:12In the Boston New York game, here's a pitch inside to Olly Brown ball free.
- 40:17Brett was the winning pitcher and Brett hit a home run.
- 40:21So that's three pickers at home runs tonight and two others got big singles.
- 40:27That's ball high and tight and Brown is on with the walk and Stinger's in trouble again.
- 40:33The second walk given up by Stinger.
- 40:38Al Ferraro coming to bat now.
- 40:41Pena second base and Brown is at first base.
- 40:46Stinger has a tender left elbow and that's part of his problem.
- 40:51Ferraro the batter struck out his first time at bat.
- 40:55The Padres who scored two in the second now have two on here in the third.
- 41:02Here's the look and the pitch to Ferraro.
- 41:04Long fly ball to left field going back for the quarter.
- 41:07Still going back at the gate.
- 41:09Makes the catch in front of the full time gate.
- 41:11Tires it quickly back in and the runners hold on.
- 41:14Ferraro came close about six feet away from home run and about two feet away from an extra base hit.
- 41:22Now a long fly to left field and here is Nate Colbert coming up.
- 41:28The Padres of course won four straights in the Dodgers and San Diego last weekend and went to Houston for two and were clobbered there.
- 41:35They went to Cincinnati though and beat the Reds two to one and had them on the ropes last night before bowing.
- 41:40Here's a fly ball to deep right field.
- 41:42Willie Crawford turns to go back on this one.
- 41:44That's the track.
- 41:45Still back and makes the catch for the Yats about three feet from the fence.
- 41:49The thing is really not fooling them there in the third inning.
- 41:52But get that of it.
- 41:53No runs, one hit and there were two left on and the score at the end of two and a half and he's the play.
- 41:58Padres two and the Dodgers nothing.
- 42:01Jared Hodge and武eptors with four steals and both the
- 42:31Don't you hate when you come to the kind of fear?
- 42:37And then...
- 42:38More and more people are finding that out about Berge.
- 42:41That Berge is comfortable and fresh and clean to drink as the soft water and sweet wind.
- 42:46Berge's got great things.
- 42:48Every ice-cold time.
- 42:50Pick up some Berge, a comfortable kind of beer.
- 42:53Do I hate when you come to the kind of fear?
- 43:01Now to the last half of the third.
- 43:07Singer Wills Moda coming on as the Dodgers trail through the Padres and Al Santorini.
- 43:13Last score of 2-0.
- 43:15Santorini a 1-2 record.
- 43:17Beat the Dodgers last Sunday in San Diego.
- 43:21A loss at San Diego 2-1 on April 29.
- 43:28Was the losing pitcher 3-1 at San Diego on June 29.
- 43:33And then was the winning pitcher 4-2 at San Diego.
- 43:38So he's pitched well every time against the Dodgers.
- 43:41Here's Singer at bat now.
- 43:43The wind at by the right hander.
- 43:44Pick is a little high.
- 43:45Ball one.
- 43:471-0 to count.
- 43:53The game in the third.
- 43:57Now the windup and the pitch on the way.
- 43:59In for a strike to Singer, 1-1.
- 44:02And at San Francisco, the Giants leading 1-0 through 2 innings of play.
- 44:06Marshall against the Regal in that one.
- 44:13Here's the windup and the 1-1 pitch.
- 44:15Still it's a pop-up on the right side.
- 44:17Arcee going back on the grass coming in as the right fielder, Brown.
- 44:20Brown calls, makes the catch.
- 44:22The Singer out on a pop fly to Olly Brown in shallow right.
- 44:26One away and the batter will be Maury Will.
- 44:32Will single a left field to open the game for the Dodgers
- 44:36and arrived as far as third on two infield outs.
- 44:40That's the first outfield put out.
- 44:43And it could have been handled by an infielder.
- 44:46As Arcee was out there but chased off by Brown.
- 44:50First fly ball out.
- 44:53The Dodgers have not been singing it very much against Mr. Santorini here tonight.
- 44:58I wills waiting.
- 45:00Kelly at third lays in on the grass.
- 45:02Here's the pitch to Maury.
- 45:03Breaking ball is just outside, ball one.
- 45:061-0 the count.
- 45:09The Reds go down in the third inning.
- 45:12No runs in the hip.
- 45:14Tommy Helms let off, got a base hit.
- 45:19But Woodard struck out into a double play
- 45:22and left retire at the side.
- 45:24So it's the end of two and a half innings of play.
- 45:27San Francisco one, Cincinnati nothing.
- 45:31Two balls, no strikes to Maury.
- 45:32Will Santorini ready in the pitch.
- 45:34Takes a strike on a curve, two and one.
- 45:40Two balls, one strike.
- 45:46Now again the right hander delivers.
- 45:48Strike two with a breaking pitch on the outside corner and it's two and two.
- 45:55Two balls, two strikes.
- 46:00Will's waiting.
- 46:03Now the winded pitch by Santorini, chopped away foul behind the plate.
- 46:07Two balls, two strikes, fill up to Maury.
- 46:19Turn to Santorini, back to the rousin bag for a moment.
- 46:23Will's waiting, outfield shift to the left against Maury.
- 46:28Swung on and foul tipped in the dirt and the plate umpire prior rule that
- 46:33the count of Zara caught it on the bounce, crisp whirled around to hold the ball up,
- 46:37but prior said no, it was in the dirt.
- 46:40Play two, two counts, still up to Will.
- 46:43Santorini has not struck out a man, has not walked a man, and is allowed two base hits.
- 46:52Here's the two, two pitch.
- 46:55Foul away off third base behind the Dodger dugout.
- 47:00Now two and two.
- 47:08Once again Santorini to the line up, the pitch to Maury, bounce towards shortstop.
- 47:12Pina waits for a big hop.
- 47:14In time and there are two outs.
- 47:18Two up and two down and Manny Modo the batter grounded out his first time up.
- 47:22Santorini as he did in San Diego has the Dodgers hitting a lot of ground balls.
- 47:27It's breaking pitch and it's sinker.
- 47:46Modo waiting the pitch, bump try fouled away.
- 48:06One strike to Manny Modo on deck, Willie Davis. Santorini winds delivers, curve up high for ball.
- 48:21One on the count, now the pitch.
- 48:23Modo hits a bouncing ball to third, Kelly goes wide to the line up with it,
- 48:26his throws in time and the Dodgers go down one, two, three.
- 48:29Another ground ball on the side out, one, two, three in the third inning.
- 48:33Three up and three down and the score at the end of three, the Padres two and the Dodgers nothing.
- 48:39Baseball of course is a seasonal game but there's one pastime that goes on all year long.
- 48:44That's enjoying lean luscious Farmer John Bacon, fried up crackling crisp for breakfast.
- 48:50It's a mighty popular pastime too because Farmer John Bacon is the West's favorite
- 48:55and one thing that accounts for its popularity is its very special flavor.
- 49:00A wonderful wide open space's Western flavor too.
- 49:03Farmer John, you see, smokes his bacon the slow, patient, all time Western way over native Western wood.
- 49:10So it has a flavor like no other bacon you can buy.
- 49:13You can always count on the freshness of Farmer John Bacon too.
- 49:17It's made from fresh Eastern corn fed pork, brought out here live,
- 49:21then U.S. inspected and dressed fresh right here in the West.
- 49:24Most other pork is shipped in frozen or cold storage.
- 49:28So the next time you shop, bring home the bacon fresh from Farmer John.
- 49:32It won the gold medal at the California State Fair and you'll agree,
- 49:35it's the Eastern most in quality and the Western most in flavor.
- 49:42All right, let's go on to the fourth inning of the ball game.
- 49:45Padres two, the Dodgers nothing, more action back to the winning.
- 49:48Oh, on the message board, happy birthday to Diane Brousseau,
- 49:51the Dodger secretary of Vice President Bill Sweppy of the Dodger family.
- 49:56Now we go to the fourth inning with the Padres leading the Dodgers
- 49:59two to nothing, Van Kelly, Jerry Morales, and Chris Cannadero in that order.
- 50:07Bill Singer down by two, looks in to get a sign,
- 50:10and the first pitch of the left-handed in Kelly is lifted back a shortstop,
- 50:13wheels out to get it, coming in his motor, and more he makes the catch going away.
- 50:22Morales coming up.
- 50:24He hit the shot up the alley in right center, the catch in Kelly.
- 50:28He took third on the overthrow and then he was squeezed in by Cannadero.
- 50:32So Morales has been very important in this ball game
- 50:36as he comes up for second at bat in the fourth inning.
- 50:43Singer into the windup, Bill delivers, and the fastball is high and tight,
- 50:48as high and tight as you can get, and Morales sits down.
- 50:52So Singer flattened him, one and all the count.
- 51:00So they have been formally introduced now,
- 51:03and Singer ready and back he comes, fastball fouled away,
- 51:07off to the right out of play, and he got one ball and one strike.
- 51:13When the Dodgers come up in the bottom of the four, they have Davis Parker Crawford.
- 51:17Singer comes right back to the plate, one-one,
- 51:21and the breaking ball is down and away, ball two.
- 51:24Two and one accounts to Morales.
- 51:35Now the two-one pitch misses ball three.
- 51:38Three and one.
- 51:40Morales right-hand batter.
- 51:43Bill Singer into the windup, and the three-one fastball is over, strike two.
- 51:48Three and two.
- 51:56Morales with one out in the fourth inning, and the Padres leading two-nothing.
- 52:00Singer delivers, and it's Luke to right field, a late start by Crawford,
- 52:04but he still has time to get there.
- 52:06A little fly ball caught by Willie Crawford.
- 52:10Two down in the fourth inning, and Chris Cannadero coming up.
- 52:14Cannadero squeezed in the run in the second inning.
- 52:17It's the second time he's done that to the Dodgers.
- 52:20He did it in the series in San Diego.
- 52:23So Cannadero, right-hand hitter.
- 52:28Two out, fourth inning, two-nothing San Diego.
- 52:31Overhand curve is low, ball one, one and all.
- 52:43The ball is in the third inning, and the ball is in the fourth inning.
- 52:47One-oh pitch is strike one and one.
- 53:06Here's the one-one pitch on the way.
- 53:08Cannadero takes outside, ball two, two and one.
- 53:19Cannadero bends at the knees and at the waist.
- 53:21Two-one pitch, fast ball, over, strike two, two and two.
- 53:29The 16th meeting of the year between the two clubs.
- 53:32The Dodgers have won nine of 15, five of six here.
- 53:37And of course, this is the first game of the three-game series.
- 53:40Now the two-two pitch on the way.
- 53:42Fast ball, got him swinging, that'll do it.
- 53:45So the Padres are gone in the fourth.
- 53:47At the end of three and a half, Padres two, Dodgers nothing.
- 53:50Mankind has always looked to Mother Earth as the one positive element
- 53:54from which all material benefits flow.
- 53:56He's fought for the land, worked for it, and died for it.
- 53:59Even today, the private ownership of land is one of the most highly respected rights
- 54:04in our American system.
- 54:05The purchase of a home represents for most families the largest single investment
- 54:09they ever will make.
- 54:10Yet, the exact nature of a person's right of ownership in a home
- 54:14and the various rights that others may have in that same home
- 54:17is a matter frequently misunderstood.
- 54:19Certainly, a person buying a home for the first time discovers that he's surrounded
- 54:23by many technicalities and complications that seem very confusing.
- 54:27Well, that's where the specialist at Arizona titled into the picture.
- 54:30Their business is thoroughly investigating previous ownership records
- 54:34to assure you of a clear title.
- 54:36They want you to buy your home with complete confidence and peace of mind.
- 54:41The folks at Arizona Title know that the security of your home
- 54:45should be your first consideration and theirs.
- 54:49The bottom of the fourth inning, Padres leading the Dodgers two to nothing.
- 54:57Two runs, three hits for the boys from San Diego.
- 55:00No runs, two hits and one arrow for the Dodgers.
- 55:03Now, Santorini has tied them up on ground ball through three.
- 55:07And he'll be pitching to Willie Davis, Wes Parker and Willie Crawford.
- 55:11The Giants, meanwhile, leading the Reds one to nothing at the end of three.
- 55:17Atlanta won. They gave Houston a jolt.
- 55:21Atlanta beating Houston four to three.
- 55:25That might have been a very demoralizing game for the Astros.
- 55:29They are so much the better ball club at home.
- 55:33And if perhaps in the waning weeks of the pennant race,
- 55:35if Houston had won their first road game,
- 55:37maybe they would think that perhaps they would reverse.
- 55:41But it looks like indeed they will continue to have a poor road record.
- 55:45They're pitching to Davis high ball one.
- 55:47The Astros, who had won 50 games at home and only 25 on the road,
- 55:53lose tonight in Atlanta four to three.
- 55:58Davis waiting. He hit back to the box in the first inning.
- 56:01The 1-0 pitch to Willie is fouled away in the count one and one.
- 56:06Willie hurt his knee sliding into third base last night.
- 56:09He strained some ligaments. It's sore.
- 56:11But he feels as long as he can keep moving around, it won't stiffen up.
- 56:17He also feels with just a couple of weeks left,
- 56:19there's no sense resting for the senior prom, so he's in there.
- 56:24One and one to Willie Davis.
- 56:27Al Santorini ready and delivers.
- 56:29Breaking ball hit foul off third down the line,
- 56:31back into the lower deck in the count one and two.
- 56:46Davis waiting one ball, two strikes.
- 56:50Al Santorini trying to win his eighth.
- 56:52Right-hander ready in the one-two pitch.
- 56:54Fastball outside. He's a Jersey boy out of the Braves organization.
- 56:59Had a serious arm operation.
- 57:01They said something like 13 chips were removed from his arm.
- 57:06Usually after going under the knife, a pitcher loses some speed.
- 57:10But Santorini still has a good live arm.
- 57:12Two-two pitch. Curve is fouled back and out of play.
- 57:21The number one relief man along with Jack Bolton in the right-handed area
- 57:25in the bullfrog, Frank Rehberger, is not here.
- 57:28He has to fulfill his military obligation.
- 57:32There's another young pitcher who figures to be of immeasurable help
- 57:35to the Padres in the years to come, Frank Rehberger.
- 57:38Here's the two-two pitch to Davis.
- 57:40Hit down the left of your line, slashing foul out of play.
- 57:44Ferrara over to the railing, but that's all. So it's still two-and-two to Willie.
- 57:51If you didn't hear the scores today, then you didn't hear about the amazing Mets.
- 57:55They swept a doubleheader in Pittsburgh.
- 57:58They shot out the Pirates twice.
- 58:01They beat them one-to-nothing in each game.
- 58:04And to add insult to injury, the run in each game driven in by the Mets pitcher,
- 58:09Jerry Kuzmin and Don Cardwell.
- 58:11Now the pitch to Davis. Fastball, a big chopper to third,
- 58:14and it is a fair ball, and Kelly throws too late.
- 58:18What they wanting, there can't be anything very much wrong about Willie Davis' knee,
- 58:30although he is limping now as he goes to first base.
- 58:33He went flying down the line, and in trying to get a little something extra,
- 58:38he might have hit the bag awkwardly.
- 58:41The boy from home to first base, he really let out.
- 58:44So Willie Davis, a high chopper to Van Kelly, and he beats it out,
- 58:48and he is bending that right leg, so he must feel some pain.
- 58:52So Davis at first, nobody out in West Park of the batter.
- 58:56He had strained ligaments, and it might have just been that when he went to stretch to hit the bag,
- 59:01that he felt a twinge of pain.
- 59:04Here's Parker, 0-4-1. Swings doesn't get it at all.
- 59:14At first, Willie back in and he's 0-1 to count to West Parker.
- 59:20West is really in change right now.
- 59:24His average is at 283, but he hasn't really had much of a game in quite a while.
- 59:30He had a last home stand, he was fine, but as soon as the Dodgers left him on the road, he hit a slump.
- 59:380-1 to count to Parker.
- 59:46Santorini checking signs, Davis held on by Colbert, and the pitch to Parker swung on and missed.
- 59:52Another throw, and Willie back in ahead of it. 0-1 to...
- 1:00:01Willie very slow to get up. That right knee perhaps hurting him a little more as he had to go back twice head first.
- 1:00:11It also might be one reason why he's going back head first, rather than trying foot slide where he'd have to bend the leg.
- 1:00:18He takes his lead, Santorini ready. Strike two pitch to Parker, the ground ball to the hole, and through in the right field.
- 1:00:25Bad leg or not, Davis will go to third easily, and Brown will run the ball back to the infield.
- 1:00:39The ground ball just did get through by Arcia, and it was dying on the grass.
- 1:00:44So Olly Brown had to come and get it, and Davis knew there was no play at third.
- 1:00:49Danny Ozark talking to Willie, who was rubbing his right knee, and of course that's the knee that he hurt last night.
- 1:00:57Let's pause for station identification. This is the Los Angeles Dodgers Radio Network.
- 1:01:01Taking care of your car is the prime concern of the trained technicians at Ronnie's Auto Service, 101 East Comelback Phoenix,
- 1:01:07where you could use your Arizona bank bank-a-barra card.
- 1:01:10ATAR Phoenix.
- 1:01:14Willie Crawford the batter, run is at first and third, nobody out.
- 1:01:18Fourth inning, San Diego 2, the Dodgers nothing, and the Padres bullpen will get busy.
- 1:01:23As Santorini delivers, and it's a line drive, they get into center field.
- 1:01:28Parker to second base, Davis scores 2-1 San Diego, and Davis limping as he crossed home plate.
- 1:01:36Gary Ross gets up in the San Diego full-pen.
- 1:01:49Willie Crawford comes up with a third straight hit.
- 1:01:59Well, I tell you one thing, it's great to be home near Spirit in the ballpark. Base hits by Davis, Parker, and Crawford for a run.
- 1:02:07The Padres leading 2-1, and here is Bill Sudeikis with nobody out.
- 1:02:11The question for the Padres to decide now, would Walter Olson have Sudeikis bunt?
- 1:02:17Haller on deck.
- 1:02:19Nate Colbert figures he's going to bunt. The first baseman is in front of Crawford.
- 1:02:24Van Kelly is about even with the bag at third. Nobody out.
- 1:02:28Sudeikis swings and a high fly ball to right field.
- 1:02:32Bagging Parker, Brown for the catch, and West is not coming on a great arm to throw a cutoff by Pena.
- 1:02:40Olly Brown with one of the strongest throwing arms in the league.
- 1:02:44And the Dodgers had Sudeikis swing and he flied to right.
- 1:02:47All right, Tom Haller the batter.
- 1:02:54Haller hit back to the box in the second inning.
- 1:03:04Padres to Dodgers one, bottom of the fourth inning. Parker at second, Crawford at first, one away.
- 1:03:13Santorini reading Kanazaro's sign.
- 1:03:16Pena bird dogging Parker a little bit at shortstop.
- 1:03:19Right hand at Santorini's pitch, Haller fouls it to the screen on one.
- 1:03:34Oh and one to Tom Haller.
- 1:03:38Santorini ready and here he comes and the pitch low and inside. One ball, one strike.
- 1:03:43Left hander gets up down in the bullpen to join Gary Ross now.
- 1:03:46The Dodgers had Davis out leg a slow roll to the third.
- 1:03:50Parker rolled one in the right field. Crawford a line drive base hit for the run.
- 1:03:57Dave Roberts the left hander throwing in the pen and the pitch tight to Haller ball two, two and one.
- 1:04:12Preston Gomez and his three lieutenants, Parky Anderson, Wally Moon and Roger Craig all up near the San Diego bat rack.
- 1:04:19Two one pitch to Haller is low, ball three and Santorini now has to make a couple of big pitches.
- 1:04:27Head size more on day.
- 1:04:32Three and one to Haller.
- 1:04:35Parker at second, Crawford at first so they have speed out there.
- 1:04:41The runners do not go, the pitch is high that loads them up.
- 1:04:54And Roger Craig, the Padres pitching coach going out to the mound to talk to Santorini.
- 1:05:07Craig just crossing the first base foul line.
- 1:05:14So Roger will chat with Santorini. We can use the time ourselves. Let's spend some of it and visit with Jerry.
- 1:05:20All right Vinnie, here's the last of the two for one dates now available to Dodger fans.
- 1:05:23September 30th a night game with the Astros. You get two tickets for the price of one.
- 1:05:27Two box seats for $3.50, two reserve seats $2.50.
- 1:05:32Order as many as you wish. Clip your special two for one blanks from one of these papers.
- 1:05:36The other side press enterprise Van Nuys News or the Ventura Star Free Press.
- 1:05:41The date, September 30th, two for the price of one by mail only.
- 1:05:44All right Vinnie.
- 1:05:45Okay, Jack, head size more is the batter.
- 1:05:48Base is loaded, one out, a run over in the fourth inning and the Padres leading the Dodgers two to one.
- 1:05:54Parker, Crawford and Haller out on the line.
- 1:05:57Size more, grounded is short in the second inning.
- 1:06:00Santorini from a stretch and Teddy takes low ball one.
- 1:06:04This might have been a suggestion from Roger Craig that it would improve his control.
- 1:06:12One ball and no strikes.
- 1:06:16Now the 1-0 pitch on the way.
- 1:06:18Ted looks low, ball two.
- 1:06:22Suddenly Santorini who had pitched three strong innings hits a big bump in the road.
- 1:06:27He gives a free consecutive singles for a run, gets it out and then walks a man to load the bases.
- 1:06:33He's now behind to size more 2-0.
- 1:06:38Santorini's 2-0 pitch on the way.
- 1:06:41One hopper to Arcia, he's to Pena, he's to Culver.
- 1:06:45Double play as if a coach hit it when the infield takes infield practice.
- 1:06:49A one hopper to the second baseman.
- 1:06:51Four, six, three, double play and the Dodgers settle for a run on three hits and lead to the end of four.
- 1:06:57Padres two, Dodgers one.
- 1:07:00Friends, quite a few Southern Californians are driving what they call a second car.
- 1:07:05It's usually not as big or as powerful as the family car and therefore doesn't need the high octane of a premium gasoline.
- 1:07:12So what do they do when their second car needs to fill up?
- 1:07:15Why, that's easy.
- 1:07:16They look up to 76 for 76 regular gasoline.
- 1:07:2176 regular is everything to low compression engines that Royal 76 Premium is to the high compression jobs.
- 1:07:29Which means that your smaller second car will deliver the same A1 all around performance as the larger family car, which takes Royal 76 Premium.
- 1:07:40So friends, if you're driving a smaller second car or even a small first car, stop into your Union Oil dealers and fill her up with the best.
- 1:07:5076 regular gasoline.
- 1:07:53Remember when you're looking for someone to look after you, look up to 76.
- 1:08:01Through four innings, the Padres two runs, three hits and no errors.
- 1:08:04The Dodgers one run, five hits and one error.
- 1:08:08Battle between Bill Singer and Al Santorini.
- 1:08:12For the Padres, Santorini will start it off.
- 1:08:15He'll be followed by Jose Arcia and then Roberto Pena.
- 1:08:20As far as scores of other games are concerned, that other big one going on a candlestick.
- 1:08:24The Giants leading Cincinnati 1-0 at the end of four innings.
- 1:08:28Jerry Arrigo and Juan Marischal.
- 1:08:45We got a report now that Cincinnati failed to score in the fifth inning.
- 1:08:50So at the end of four and a half innings, it remains 1-0 San Francisco.
- 1:08:58Al Santorini, right hand batter, he struck out in the second inning.
- 1:09:03Singer into the windup delivers.
- 1:09:05Fastball low and away, ball one.
- 1:09:10The Giants playing Cincinnati head to head, trailing the Reds by half a game.
- 1:09:15Atlanta already won the 1-0 pitch, fouled right into Haller's mask in the count one and one.
- 1:09:37One and one to count to Al Santorini.
- 1:09:40Jose Arcia on deck.
- 1:09:43Singer into the windup in the 1-1 pitch.
- 1:09:45Breaking ball hit right at Sizemore.
- 1:09:51One away in the fifth inning, Arcia coming up.
- 1:09:53He's rolled out twice to second and third.
- 1:09:56Jose over two.
- 1:10:12Arcia waiting.
- 1:10:20Singer looks in to get a sign from Haller.
- 1:10:22Now he's ready and the breaking ball half swing for a strike in the count one and one.
- 1:10:27Padres scored twice in the second inning.
- 1:10:30Morales doubled home Kelly and then Canazaro squeezed in Morales.
- 1:10:35The Dodgers had three hits for a run in the fourth inning and we're now in the fifth.
- 1:10:43On one and one to count, Singer delivers fastball over strike two.
- 1:10:59Now there's strike two pitch on the way outside, ball one, one and two.
- 1:11:16Arcia then fouls the next one away and it's still one and two.
- 1:11:40One and two to count to Jose Arcia.
- 1:11:43He still has to play with one out in the fifth.
- 1:11:46Padres two, Dodgers one.
- 1:11:57One and two to count to Arcia.
- 1:11:59Singer into the windup, Bill ready in the fastball high and away.
- 1:12:02Ball two, two and two.
- 1:12:09They're in the bottom of the fifth with candlestick one to nothing in favor of the Giants.
- 1:12:15Singer ready in the two, two pitch.
- 1:12:17Arcia swings and misses strike three.
- 1:12:20So Jose down on strike, two out and Roberto Pena, the right hand hitting shortstop coming up,
- 1:12:26lied to right and single to center, one for two.
- 1:12:46Pena waiting.
- 1:12:48Singer into the windup and delivers breaking ball, foul back out of play into the second deck just to the right of home plate.
- 1:12:54Oh and one.
- 1:13:03On deck, Ollie Brown.
- 1:13:05Singer ready, strike one pitch, fastball high and inside, one ball and one strike.
- 1:13:13Padres two in the second inning, Dodgers one in the fourth and here we are in the fifth.
- 1:13:16Two to one San Diego.
- 1:13:19Here's the one, one pitch on the way.
- 1:13:22Fastball just outside, ball two, two and one.
- 1:13:36Singer into the windup, now the two, one pitch to Pena, fastball over, strike two.
- 1:13:42So gesturing as if he thought the pitch was outside, two and two the count.
- 1:13:58Singer reading Haller, now Bill Ruddy in the two, two pitch to Pena, breaking ball popped in the air off to the right of the plate.
- 1:14:04Parker and Haller converge, Parker has the play, makes the catch and that's that.
- 1:14:09Well they're gone in order in the fifth and at the end of four and a half, Padres two, Dodgers one.
- 1:14:15You know we get mail from folks who tell us that when they can't get out to watch the Dodgers in action, they enjoy listening to our play by play account of the game, Jerry.
- 1:14:22Well of course the pleasure's ours, Vinnie, which brings to mind an important point we ought to make about Burgermeister beer.
- 1:14:28Oh what's that, Jeff?
- 1:14:29Well we tell our listeners a lot about what makes Berge the great beer it is, that it's soft water brewed to give it real beer taste.
- 1:14:36Hmm, true enough, and that Berge is the comfortable beer, the one that refreshes you right from the start and keeps on refreshing you, glass after ice cold comfortable glass.
- 1:14:46Well also true.
- 1:14:47So what are you getting at?
- 1:14:48Just this, listening to a ball game isn't the same as seeing it in person, just as hearing about Berge can't compare with tasting its ice cold comfortable goodness.
- 1:14:57Ah, point well made I'd say, Jeff.
- 1:15:00So folks you don't have to take our word for it, the proof is in the tasting, just bring home an ice cold six pack or two and get the whole comfortable story from Berge.
- 1:15:19Bottom of the fifth inning with the Padres leading the Dodgers 2-1, two runs three hits, no errors for San Diego, one run five hits and one error for the Dodgers.
- 1:15:28Bill Singer, Maury Wills and Manny Moda in that order.
- 1:15:44Now the Candlestick report the Giants failed to score, so at the end of five up there it's one nothing San Francisco.
- 1:15:51Alright here's Singer, Santorini's first one on the outside going up for a strike, going one.
- 1:16:02Al Santorini, one and two of the Dodgers this year, works one down and away and misses, one ball one strike.
- 1:16:11Maury Wills on deck, now the one one pitch on the way, swung on and missed, strike two.
- 1:16:28Danny Ozark coaching at third, Jim Gilliam at first.
- 1:16:32Here's the one two pitch on the way, fastball high and outside, ball two, two and two.
- 1:16:41Santorini's two two pitch to Singer, swung on and missed, strike three.
- 1:16:57So down goes Bill, opening up matters in the fifth inning.
- 1:17:00For Santorini his first strikeout and the batter Maury Wills.
- 1:17:04Wills is one for two.
- 1:17:15Wills, single to left field in the first inning, got around as far as third with two outs but stayed there.
- 1:17:22Maury hitting left handed against Santorini and the pitch to him low for one.
- 1:17:28Van Kelly plays him on the edge of the grass, Colbert is up a step and he outfields, shades in the left.
- 1:17:38Santorini's one oh pitch on the way, line drive, face it and a left field.
- 1:17:45So Wills is two for three, Roberto Pena came very close to backhanding that ball, just did miss it.
- 1:17:51So Wills aboard with one out and Manny Moter the batter.
- 1:18:05Played on fire, Pryor wants to examine the ball, has a good look at it and Paul will put a new one in play.
- 1:18:24Padres two, Dodgers one, bottom of the fifth, one out and Wills at first.
- 1:18:28Santorini checks him, works Moter a strike, going on.
- 1:18:47Santorini's set at the belt, another look over at Wills and he decides you better drive him back with a throw to Colbert.
- 1:18:59Counter zero, flashing signs out behind the plate, outfield playing Moter straight away if anything shaded to right.
- 1:19:06Pitch to Manny, curve down and away, one ball one strike.
- 1:19:17Padres two, Dodgers one, bottom of the fifth inning, first game of the three game series.
- 1:19:21They're after each other tomorrow night and Sunday afternoon.
- 1:19:24Now the one one pitch, Moter takes in the dirt, a nice save by counter zero, that thing was heading for the backstop, ball two, two and one.
- 1:19:35Willie Davis on deck, Wills held on by Colbert, takes his lead.
- 1:19:52Moter waiting and the two one pitch, Wills goes, it's a high bouncer back to Santorini, the out at first as Wills moves into second base.
- 1:20:01So the Dodgers play hit and run and Moter taps to the mound, two down, a tying run at second base and Willie Davis coming up.
- 1:20:23Santorini has handled three balls back to the box, he's also had one put out on a ground ball to the first baseman.
- 1:20:29He's been pretty busy, the Dodgers basically beating the ball down into the ground.
- 1:20:34Only fly ball was hit by Sudeikis in the fourth inning.
- 1:20:39Willie takes low, ball one, counter zero, knocking the ball down.
- 1:20:51One ball, no strikes to Willie Davis.
- 1:20:59Santorini again straightens up, looks at second and the one oh pitch, change, poke foul up along third.
- 1:21:06Willie tried to drive that thing into left field but he didn't get enough of it and just rolled it outside at third.
- 1:21:12One and one.
- 1:21:26One and one to count.
- 1:21:34One and one to count to Willie Davis.
- 1:21:36Santorini delivers, line drive to right, it's going to sink for a hit.
- 1:21:40Here comes Will, that great armor brown, throws very high, the run is in.
- 1:21:46Will tripped and rolled over home plate to tie it up.
- 1:22:08So Willie Davis, the line single to right, to tie it up and Willie takes second on the throw to the plate.
- 1:22:15Will started his slide and he's fortunate he didn't get hurt.
- 1:22:19He made an awkward slide, seemed to bounce and roll over home plate.
- 1:22:25So now here is Parker trying to pick up Willie Davis.
- 1:22:30Cincinnati field a score in the sixth.
- 1:22:33But still one to nothing in favor of the Giants at the end of five and a half.
- 1:22:38Parker now at the plate, Santorini delivers the strike.
- 1:22:56On one to count to Parker, Santorini looks at Davis, works to west, breaking ball a little high, one and one.
- 1:23:04So the Dodgers and Padres are all even at two apiece here in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- 1:23:11As Will singles and a two out single to right by Willie Davis picks him up.
- 1:23:17Santorini's one, one pitch.
- 1:23:19A high chopper over the mountain, he backs up, spears it on a bad hop and throws him out.
- 1:23:24A nice play by the shortstop.
- 1:23:26That wasn't a very easy play to make.
- 1:23:28One run, two hits, one left.
- 1:23:32And at the end of five, Dodgers two, Padres two.
- 1:23:37You know most people would agree that the key man in baseball is the pitcher.

- 1:24:37Through five, a 2-2 tie.
- 1:24:46The Boudre's two runs three hits no errors and the Dodgers two runs seven hits and one error.
- 1:24:52Our centennial celebrity tonight can claim a one thousand batting average in the World Series.
- 1:24:59As a member of the Boston Red Sox in 46 he's single twice in pinch hitting roles against the St. Louis Cardinals.
- 1:25:06At one time our celebrity had 11 consecutive hits with the Coast League Angels in 1938.
- 1:25:12He piled up 216 hits that year.
- 1:25:15He had the most hits of anyone in the big leagues or the minors.
- 1:25:19He was named to the Coast League All-Star team four times each time at a different position.
- 1:25:24We're talking about Glenn David Rip Russell and the Ripper comes out on deck now and receives the quarter to the crowd.
- 1:25:32We're delighted to have him here with us tonight. Rip Russell a fine ball player.
- 1:25:42So the Ripper has taken his bow. Red Adams comes over to say hello to him.
- 1:25:47And Ollie Brown now at the plate to say hello to Singer in the pitch high ball one.
- 1:25:56Want to know the count Ollie is singled and walked one for one singer delivers fastball for a strike one and one.
- 1:26:03Ollie Brown has an arm like Clemente or A.G.
- 1:26:08You just get a thrill out of watching him throw before he can fire.
- 1:26:13Here's the 1 1 pitch on the way fastball low ball to the zone one.
- 1:26:28Now the 2 1 pitch on the way hit on the hands and popped up.
- 1:26:32Parker comes in from first base on the grass waiting and makes the catch.
- 1:26:39Ollie Brown pops up one away and Al Ferraro will be the batter.
- 1:26:44The end of five and a half at Candlestick the Giants are leading one to nothing.
- 1:26:49Mets one a double header. The Cubs won. Atlanta won.
- 1:26:56So Houston gets hurt tonight and we'll find out about the Dodgers.
- 1:27:05The pitch to Al Ferraro low ball one. Ferraro in the third inning came up with one out and run as it first and second and sent Manny Motta just about to the bullpen gate in left field for his long out.
- 1:27:17But out it was the one 0 pitch down a high fly ball the left center.
- 1:27:23Willie Davis jogging in is under it now and makes the catch.
- 1:27:30Singer has settled down. He has retired 10 in a row since he walked Ollie Brown in the third inning.
- 1:27:41Nate Coburn right hand hitting first baseman rolled a short and fly to right he's 0 for 2.
- 1:27:49Singer into the wind up and delivers fastball low ball one 1 and 0.
- 1:28:05The next pitch missed ball to 2 and 0.
- 1:28:17Now singer into the wind up the 2 0 pitch outside ball 3.
- 1:28:323 and 0 the counter first baseman Nate Coburn. Singers fastball a strike 3 and 1. Coburn has sock you have to be careful of him.
- 1:28:41Nate has 18 home runs 52 RBI.
- 1:28:48Now the 3 1 pitch he drives it to left field and deep back those motor to the base of the wall it's gone.
- 1:29:06Nate Coburn who has the sock socked it line drive into the left field bleachers and the Padres lead 3 to 2.
- 1:29:14For Coburn his 19th home run of the year his 50 third run batted in and Nevada will be Van Kelly the third baseman.
- 1:29:29That's only the fourth hit allowed by Singer but the Padres getting the maximum out of four hits they have three runs.
- 1:29:38Pitch to Kelly a strike 0 and 1 to Van Singer comes back to him and Kelly has to pull away one ball one strike.
- 1:29:57The next one is inside the Padres have now hit 10 home runs against the Dodgers this year.
- 1:30:05It's the third home run that Nate Coburn has hit against the Dodgers.
- 1:30:12Now the 2 1 pitch to Van Kelly bow back to him to Bill Singer has been haunted by the home run ball all year.
- 1:30:22And that one turns out to be the 21st home run that he's allowed.
- 1:30:322 2 pitch to Van Kelly is a ground ball to Sizemore up with it at the belt buckle and throws him out a run on a hit a home run by Coburn at the end of five and a half Padres three Dodgers.

- 1:31:40Christown TV and Magna Box a colorful combination.
- 1:31:46Right now let's pause the station identification. This is the Los Angeles Soviet radio network.
- 1:31:51Taking care of your car is the prime concern of the train technicians at Encanto Shell Service 1342 West Thomas Road Phoenix where you could hear as your Arizona bank Bank of America.
- 1:32:01KDAR Phoenix.
- 1:32:04Bottom of the sixth inning and Willie Carver is jammed and pops one in the shallow center.
- 1:32:22The
- 1:32:24Carver pops up one away and Bill Sudeikis will be the batter.
- 1:32:34Giants failed to score in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- 1:32:37For big reasons Willie Mays hit into another double plays hit into two.
- 1:32:52So the end of six at Candlestick it is one to nothing San Francisco.
- 1:32:57That's a tough one Jerry Arrigo pitching his best game of the year so far.
- 1:33:01But one Marshall out pitching him.
- 1:33:05Here's Sudeikis with runners at first and second and nobody out on the fourth inning.
- 1:33:10They let Sudeikis swing and he flied to deep right.
- 1:33:14He looks at a slow curve low ball one on deck Tom Haller Ray Lamb throwing in the Dodger bullpen.
- 1:33:27Sudeikis waiting Santorini into the wind up and delivers fastball away ball to 2 and 0.
- 1:33:35The Dodgers have not scored more than two runs since the last home game they played and here they are hung on to right now and that's not enough.
- 1:33:44They're trailing three to two in the bottom of the sixth.
- 1:33:50Sudeikis into the wind up and delivers and there's a line drive down the right field line it's in there for a base hit hits the railing of the box.
- 1:33:58And rolls away that gets Sudeikis a triple.
- 1:34:01He's on his way for three and he's got it standing.
- 1:34:17And Sudeikis Brown charged that ball right at the railing of the back seat and that was not a very good play to make when you're leading by a run.
- 1:34:26So he gambled and when the gamble failed he gave Sudeikis an additional base at best he should have had a double.
- 1:34:34But the ball hit the box he's railing and then hugged it and rolled all the way beyond and past the gate.
- 1:34:39And by the time Ali ran it down today because had a triple.
- 1:34:43So a one out triple by Sudeikis and they'll go to the bullpen.
- 1:34:47Gary Ross will be brought in the pitch to Tommy Howard Santorini has to come out.
- 1:34:53He can't lose. He could win or have nothing to do with the game.
- 1:35:00So Al Santorini comes out in favor of Gary Ross.
- 1:35:05One out six innings the Padres three runs for his the Dodgers two runs eight hits and one error.
- 1:35:12They have a lot of time a lot of scores and some other information.
- 1:35:15Let's spend it with Jerry.
- 1:35:16All right. But a three more portrait date to Dodger Stadium complete your collection of these great Nicholas Volpe portraits of your Dodgers.
- 1:35:23A free portrait of Bill Sudeikis to all attend the September 15th game with the Reds.
- 1:35:29A free portrait of Don Drysdale for all who attend his day Saturday afternoon September 27th.
- 1:35:35And a free portrait of Claude Osteen to all fans of the game on September 30th.
- 1:35:46If you'd like to participate in some way and Don Drysdale day contact the chairman of the event Jack Gilardi creative management associates in Beverly Hill.
- 1:35:55Remember the date. Let's make it a big one.
- 1:35:57One that Big D will never forget Saturday September the 27th the Dodgers and the Giants.
- 1:36:02A great day there in the seventh inning at Candlestick Park and the Giants lead the Reds one to nothing.
- 1:36:10Other finals Atlanta beat Houston four to three.
- 1:36:13The Cubs snapped an eight game losing streak and beat the Cardinals five to one.
- 1:36:17The amazing that's one a double header from the Pirates one to nothing one to nothing and Montreal beat Philadelphia four to nothing.
- 1:36:24American League finals Minnesota beat Kansas City three to nothing.
- 1:36:28Oakland over Chicago 12 to four Baltimore beat Cleveland two to one.
- 1:36:33Washington beat Detroit four to three.
- 1:36:35Yankees five to three over Boston in the first game Boston the second game four to three.
- 1:36:40Seattle beat the Angels four to one in the first game no score second inning of the second game.
- 1:36:46I were about to go back to playing here.
- 1:36:48The Dodgers know all about Gary Ross.
- 1:36:51He's the boy who picked up in the first game in San Diego and Dick Kelly came up with a sore left shoulder.
- 1:36:57Ross came in and just threw BBs and pitched a great game to win it.
- 1:37:01Gary's record is only three and eleven but he might very well be head and head without Santorini and Clay Kirby.
- 1:37:10Those three hopped right arms on the San Diego squad.
- 1:37:14A fine pitcher.
- 1:37:16So Ross who throws hard will be pitching to Haller with one out and Sudeikis the third.
- 1:37:21He comes from a stretch and the fastball is outside ball one.
- 1:37:26Gary Ross wears glasses.
- 1:37:33Three to San Diego Sudeikis the third one away the one oh pitch to Haller outside ball two.
- 1:37:45Time out now while fire cleans off home plate.
- 1:37:51Two balls and no strikes to Tommy Haller trying to pick up Sudeikis.
- 1:37:56Sudeikis coming up with his fifth triple of the year.
- 1:38:01Ross at the belt and the two oh pitch swung on and missed two and one.
- 1:38:16Time back up to the plate two and one to count.
- 1:38:22Ross ready and the pitch to Haller outside ball three.
- 1:38:26Three and one.
- 1:38:28Dodgers were retired in order only in the third inning.
- 1:38:32They've had a man on in every inning but the third.
- 1:38:37But they're trailing three two in the sixth.
- 1:38:39Ross making his three one pitch.
- 1:38:41Haller takes ball four.
- 1:38:48Ted Sizemore is over two.
- 1:38:51He grounded out in the second inning and then with the bases loaded banged into a double play in the fourth.
- 1:39:02So Ted Sizemore with Haller at first Sudeikis at third one out in the sixth inning and the Padres leading three two.
- 1:39:12At the end of sixth at Candlestick the Giants and Juan Marichal one the Reds and Jerry Arrigo nothing.
- 1:39:20Marichal trying to win his 18th.
- 1:39:25Gary Ross hands on his knees straightens up now after picking up a sign the pitch to Sizemore low ball one.
- 1:39:41Al Santorini went five and a third.
- 1:39:44Gary Ross picking up for him here.
- 1:39:46Now the one oh pitch Sizemore looks it's low again ball two.
- 1:39:52Roger Craig gestures to Kanagera go out to him and the catcher walked out to the mound.
- 1:39:59The Reds in the seventh inning failed to score.
- 1:40:11So at the end of six and a half innings at Candlestick the Giants still holding on to a one to nothing lead.
- 1:40:21Two and 0 to Ted Sizemore.
- 1:40:23Three to San Diego bottom of the sixth one away.
- 1:40:27Ross at the belt checks delivers and is a ground ball up the middle.
- 1:40:31Kanagera can't get it.
- 1:40:32The run is over Haller will stop a second and they're all even at three a piece.
- 1:40:46The ball was not hit that hard.
- 1:40:48Sizemore was just able to roll it through Pena who was getting him towards the hole.
- 1:40:53Glad to come back to get it but couldn't do it.
- 1:40:55And the ball died out on the grass and Morales hustled in to keep Haller at second base.
- 1:41:00That means Santorini has nothing to do with the game.
- 1:41:04So Dakas is scored belongs to Santorini and now Ross is on his own.
- 1:41:113-3 in the sixth Bill Singer called away for a moment and Walter Alston talking to him.
- 1:41:19The immediate thought of course is well Singer's going to bunt.
- 1:41:22However Alston talking with him so it's more than just a bunt.
- 1:41:26He might even have Bill take a swipe at one.
- 1:41:29We'll see.
- 1:41:31Jack Walsh in the right hander.
- 1:41:33Dave Roberts the left hander throwing in the San Diego bullpen.
- 1:41:36And here's Singer choking on the bat.
- 1:41:39Colbert in on the grass at first.
- 1:41:41Kelly near the bag at third.
- 1:41:43Ross set.
- 1:41:44Singer to bunt and does.
- 1:41:46Colbert bare hands it.
- 1:41:47It throws to third for one and that's all.
- 1:41:50So they get the fourth play easily from Nate Colbert to Van Kelly 3-5.
- 1:41:56Sizemore at second and with two out the battle will be more will.
- 1:42:00Will.
- 1:42:093-3 tie with two out on the sixth inning.
- 1:42:12Will.
- 1:42:13Will scored what was then the tying run in the fifth inning.
- 1:42:17He's 2 for 3.
- 1:42:19Now Morey trying to pick somebody up.
- 1:42:23Will says it safely in 12 straight.
- 1:42:33He has had two or more hits in nine of those 12 games.
- 1:42:41Ross ready.
- 1:42:42Checking delivers and it's low and I'd say by count of zero.
- 1:42:503-3 tie bottom of the sixth Dodgers three runs nine hits one error.
- 1:42:56The foundry three runs four hits and nowhere.
- 1:42:59One home run net by Nate Colbert.
- 1:43:02Dodgers have had a triple by Bill Sudeikis.
- 1:43:06The one 0 pitch to wills outside ball to.
- 1:43:20To and all the count of more he will.
- 1:43:25Ross checking the outfield around the left on will.
- 1:43:29They don't figure into full law.
- 1:43:31The two 0 pitch taken for a strike.
- 1:43:38Do and one.
- 1:43:44Will has played in 87 games as a Dodger in 38 of those games.
- 1:43:50He's had two or more hits.
- 1:43:54Now the two one said he has two hits tonight.
- 1:43:57They've got to do it.
- 1:44:03I just get a run on to hit them leave to and at the end of six.
- 1:44:09Hey Dick Landy who do you look up to when you're going for those low street
- 1:44:12eliminator E.T.s. I look up to the Christmas tree when my timing is right off
- 1:44:17the line I figure I'll get the drop on anybody in the other lane.
- 1:44:21Hey Dick Landy who do you look up to for a gasoline for your passenger car.
- 1:44:25I look up to 76.
- 1:44:27Royal 76 premium is exactly the same powerful gasoline I used for racing.
- 1:44:47Look up to 76 for Royal 76 premium when you're looking for high performance in
- 1:44:52your own car.
- 1:44:53Union 76 has won more races in the West than any other brand.
- 1:44:57Shouldn't Royal 76 premium be your brand.
- 1:45:15There are six innings here at Dodger Stadium.
- 1:45:18The Dodgers three runs nine hits and one error.
- 1:45:20The Padres three runs four hits and no errors.
- 1:45:23It's Bill Singer and Gary Ross battling it out.
- 1:45:26Don't forget they're after each other tomorrow night and again Sunday
- 1:45:28afternoon.
- 1:45:29The Reds will be here Monday night for a single game for a twilight night
- 1:45:33doubleheader on Tuesday and then the Braves to finish it off Wednesday and
- 1:45:37Thursday night.
- 1:45:38So we'll be looking forward to seeing you out here at Dodger Stadium.
- 1:45:41Let's get to the seventh all even a three a piece and for more play here's
- 1:45:44Jerry.
- 1:45:45All right Billy and Jerry Morales will be the batter.
- 1:45:47He hit a double to drive in a run and scored a run in the second inning.
- 1:45:51Right hand hitter waiting and fingers pitch to him as a curve for strike on
- 1:45:54the inside corner.
- 1:45:55Oh and one Morales backed away a little bit.
- 1:45:57He went down his last time up on a fastball Morales kind of down and Ross
- 1:46:03here in the seventh thing already in the pitch fastball is blown away ball
- 1:46:08one one and one.
- 1:46:10The Dodgers one at a time in the fourth fifth and sixth the Padres two in the
- 1:46:13second and one in the sixth inning.
- 1:46:15That one a home run by Cobra curve low for ball two and one now two balls of
- 1:46:29the strike tomorrow out of batting seventh in the order.
- 1:46:33Bill Singer into the wind up now on the pitch on the way to him a swing in the
- 1:46:38middle of the hard and strike to two and two as the count.
- 1:46:41The Dodgers have beaten San Diego five out of six here but in San Diego they
- 1:46:45have lost five of the nine plays there.
- 1:46:49The Giants go out in order in the seventh inning so that ballgame rolling
- 1:46:52along at Candlestick pitchers just outside ball three.
- 1:46:56Singer thought he had him struck out.
- 1:47:07They've got a real deal going in Candlestick as a swing and a strike
- 1:47:11free morale down on strikes and for a player strike out number five.
- 1:47:17The game at Candlestick now is in the eighth inning a rego against Marisol one
- 1:47:22to nothing.
- 1:47:23The Giants scored a run in the second inning and Lanier drove it in a walk a
- 1:47:27wild pitch an intentional walk and a single by Lanier got the run.
- 1:47:34The Giants stand one to nothing.
- 1:47:37The Mets want a double header from the Pirates one to nothing and one to
- 1:47:40nothing.
- 1:47:41Atlanta beat Houston four to three.
- 1:47:44We've got a lot of one run games going.
- 1:47:46There's a curve strike to Canada 0 and 1 a squeeze but by Chris in the second
- 1:47:51inning got in the second run for the Padres.
- 1:47:57There have been some lopsided games in this series with the Dodgers and the
- 1:48:00Padres but there have also been some very close ballgame.
- 1:48:06Now the wind up in the pitch on the way to Canada 0 popped up on the first
- 1:48:09base line coming in for it is going across the line now about territory
- 1:48:13Parker and West makes the catch.
- 1:48:16So Canada 0 fouls out the Parker down the first base line to a way and here's
- 1:48:21Jerry Ross the pitcher coming up Ross at bat for his first time.
- 1:48:26Well Santorini worked five and a third in field at three runs and eight hits
- 1:48:30and Al pitch well he gave way to Ross in the sixth inning and now Ross is the
- 1:48:37batter right hander waiting Ross wearing number 33 the wind up in the pitch on
- 1:48:42the way.
- 1:48:43Hold on and let's strike one a fastball 0 and 1 the count.
- 1:48:55Now the pitch swung on a strike to 0 and 2 in the game of San Francisco.
- 1:49:01A regal has allowed two hits and trails one to nothing and I think that
- 1:49:05Marisels allowed this one.
- 1:49:08That's right.
- 1:49:09So that's that's quite a game going there.
- 1:49:11Ross takes low ball one strike to Gary Ross.
- 1:49:17So the Reds and the Giants meeting head on while the Dodgers play San Diego and
- 1:49:20Houston is playing in Atlanta and that game is over.
- 1:49:23Atlanta wanted four to three Ron Stone the winner hit a home run to win it.
- 1:49:28Bow back to the wire still wanted to win stone hit his home run.
- 1:49:31It didn't look like the winning run came in the seventh inning with one on and
- 1:49:34made the score four to nothing.
- 1:49:36But Houston then came back in the eighth inning and scored three times.
- 1:49:43Here's the one to pitch down the way to Ross.
- 1:49:45Thank three.
- 1:49:46Stuck him out.
- 1:49:53And we'll go along to the bottom of the seventh in a few moments to score at the
- 1:49:55end of six and a half Dodgers three the Padres three.
- 1:49:59You know friends when you think back some of the things you used to do seem
- 1:50:02like more fun than the things you do now like dating when you both only had
- 1:50:06enough money for a hamburger and maybe a walk in the park.
- 1:50:10Remember the beer you used to drink seems like it tasted so good you just
- 1:50:13couldn't get enough of it but maybe you haven't tried an ice cold comfortable
- 1:50:17Berge lately.
- 1:50:18That's the kind of beer Berge is soft water brewed to taste comfortable and
- 1:50:21drink comfortable glass after glass.
- 1:50:23The good comfortable right now taste of Berge is better than your memory.
- 1:50:31Right now.
- 1:50:47I would go along to the last of the seven inning crowd standing for the seventh
- 1:51:03inning stretch and the Dodgers come on with Mota Davidson Parker.
- 1:51:15All right Manny Mota coming on Mota has grounded out three times tonight.
- 1:51:34I've loaded that now facing Gary Ross ball game even three three the pitch on
- 1:51:38the way to man he is inside with a fastball Willie Davis on deck.
- 1:51:41The Dodgers have three runs nine hits in the pod race three runs and four hits
- 1:51:52the one oh pitch to man he comes low ball to two and oh Mota batting three
- 1:51:59twenty six at the start Willie Davis on deck has had two hits tonight to raise
- 1:52:03his average up he started out of three sixteen man he's left elbow still very
- 1:52:09painful now the two oh pitch on the way to him taking a strike two and one with
- 1:52:16that sore left elbow he can't swing properly but he's hanging in there he
- 1:52:20doesn't want to get out of line up now here's the two one pitch looked along
- 1:52:25the right field line Ali Brown coming over and has it near the line for the
- 1:52:29out so Mota out on a fly ball into right field near the line one away and the
- 1:52:34batter will be Willie Davis will he grounded out and beat out an infield hit
- 1:52:37and single the right to drive in a run.
- 1:52:40So Willie D two for three coming on now.
- 1:53:00All right Davis waiting Ross under the weight up and the pitch is a fastball
- 1:53:07outside ball one one ball on those strikes Ross delivers again and David
- 1:53:22swings it off one ball one strike.
- 1:53:30It was wrong to stop Willie Davis on the 31 game streak.
- 1:53:34Kelly got Willie out the first inning and then Ross retired him three times in
- 1:53:39a row half playing is checked up in a two high ball to two and one.
- 1:53:47The Reds go down on the eighth and Marishaw is on his game a one hitter
- 1:53:51single by Tommy Helms or ego is fixed to hitter a two one count now to Willie
- 1:54:06Davis playing a five ball to right field and beat back toward those on a ground
- 1:54:10still going back at the world leads up and it's gone caught by Brown against
- 1:54:16the fastball and it's on the fence.
- 1:54:21Well as far as he could and it looked like it was out of here and he brought
- 1:54:25it down.
- 1:54:26So Willie Davis this is a home run by about a foot.
- 1:54:30I just stood there like a statue and caught it.
- 1:54:36So Ali Brown goes to the fence and straight up against the board at his time
- 1:54:45the Cori's arm with up started to go around and stop and then we knew the
- 1:54:49Brown had caught it.
- 1:54:50Ali fired it back in the really came close pitch to Parker as a strike going
- 1:54:56one.
- 1:55:06So what are they going to check out that pair of a minute almost nailed them
- 1:55:09on the corner for strike to the left as one hit a single on the fourth round
- 1:55:15about twice.
- 1:55:17The West trying to get the batting stroke back attendance tonight at 17
- 1:55:21thousand eight hundred and eighteen oh and to the count.
- 1:55:30Low outside to the next pitch ball one.
- 1:55:40Brown was pretty nonchalant on how many went right to the wall back to the
- 1:55:44fence stood up put his arm up and boom he had it.
- 1:55:47Here's the pitch bounce to the left side.
- 1:55:50Kelly knocked it down and can't play it.
- 1:55:52Parker is on the ball took a bad hop and Parker is on at first base to be an
- 1:55:57error on the third baseman.
- 1:56:03So Parker draws life on Kelly's error that's the first missed cue for San
- 1:56:06Diego in the game.
- 1:56:25Here's the first strike on one.
- 1:56:38So what are they going to check out that pair of a minute almost nailed them
- 1:56:41that was on the corner for strike to the left as one hit a single on the fourth
- 1:56:46round about twice.
- 1:56:49The West trying to get the batting stroke back attendance tonight at 17 thousand
- 1:56:55eight hundred and eighteen oh and to the count.
- 1:57:03Low outside to the next pitch ball one.
- 1:57:13Brown was pretty nonchalant on how many went right to the wall back to the
- 1:57:17fence stood up put his arm up and boom he had it.
- 1:57:20Here's the pitch bounce to the left side.
- 1:57:22Kelly knocked it down and can't play it.
- 1:57:25Parker is on the ball took a bad hop and Parker is on at first base to be an
- 1:57:30error on the third baseman.
- 1:57:36Life on Kelly's error that's the first missed cue for San Diego in the game.
- 1:57:58Here's the first strike on one.
- 1:58:14All on the count now.
- 1:58:16Crawford.
- 1:58:17Brown ball and right back to Rob.
- 1:58:19Mother just comes up and throws the first in time for the after he's had the
- 1:58:23first strike no runs no hits one error and one left on the score at the end of
- 1:58:29seven to play.
- 1:58:31I'd race three and the Dodgers three.
- 1:58:34Hey you know you can count on Farmer John Sausage scoring in both the top half
- 1:58:38and the bottom half of your daily menu planning or to put it another way.
- 1:58:42Farmer John Sausage is not only the West's best breakfast but it makes a mighty
- 1:58:46fine supper too.

- 1:58:52the Western recipe.
- 1:58:53The natural herbs and spices.
- 1:58:55So does a wonderful Western flavor in every marvelous meaty morsel.
- 1:58:59It's made from fresh Eastern corn fed pork.
- 1:59:01Roll it out here live.
- 1:59:02Then you inspect it and dress fresh right here in the West.
- 1:59:06That's why Farmer John Sausage is always rosy fresh.
- 1:59:10Never gray looks like sausage chipped in frozen cold storage.
- 1:59:14One day soon give your family lean juicy Farmer John Sausage for breakfast or
- 1:59:20for supper.
- 1:59:21It's the sausage that won the gold medal in the California State Fair.
- 1:59:25You know what?
- 1:59:26He's going to agree with us.
- 1:59:27It's the Eastern most in quality and the Western most in flavor.

- 1:59:51dollar.
- 1:59:52Get your souvenirs.
- 1:59:53Our ball game is tied up a three and three.
- 1:59:55The Padres and the Dodgers three runs nine to one for the Dodgers.
- 1:59:59Three runs for the San Diego Padres.
- 2:00:04Back to play.
- 2:00:05Here's this.
- 2:00:06I.J. through seven three three five.
- 2:00:10OK, I.J. I.J. Robert O'Pangeon and Ali Brown and Bill Singer ready to go
- 2:00:16to work.
- 2:00:17Not only four hits, but I.J. have had nine hits and even three of these.
- 2:00:23The pitch to I.J. over for a fight on one.
- 2:00:35Checking into the wind up and it's like one big breaking ball pulled and off
- 2:00:40the glove of today is backed up by Will.
- 2:00:42But he has no play today.
- 2:00:44This is playing on the grass, trying to go to his left and couldn't make the
- 2:00:47play.
- 2:00:48It'll be a big hit.
- 2:00:53That will be hit number five for San Diego.
- 2:00:56And it brings up Roberto Pena who was flying to right, single to center and
- 2:01:00fouled out one for three.
- 2:01:05On deck, Ali Brown.
- 2:01:12Singer turns and lobs the throw to first to keep Arcee tied up.
- 2:01:15Jose is the leading base stealer for San Diego.
- 2:01:18He has stolen eleven.
- 2:01:20Pena around the bunt, fouls it away.
- 2:01:22Pena is a very good man to use in a play.
- 2:01:27The one thing Pena does not do is strike out.
- 2:01:31He becomes very valuable in a game like this.
- 2:01:34To give you an idea, he has he strikes out about 12 percent of the time, which
- 2:01:39would make him a very tough man.
- 2:01:41So they play a lot of hit and run with him and bunt.
- 2:01:43He's around the bunt, takes low one and one.
- 2:01:48Twice in the four game series in San Diego, it was Pena who had a big hit and run
- 2:01:54play and a run and hit play.
- 2:01:57And each time it was the play that broke the ball game open and led to San Diego's victory.
- 2:02:04He doesn't have a big average, but the 240 average doesn't fool you.
- 2:02:08He's a good hitter.
- 2:02:10The one-one pitch.
- 2:02:11He bunts.
- 2:02:12Down the gate, Parker.
- 2:02:13It's on the chalk and it goes just foul.
- 2:02:17And West picks it up.
- 2:02:19So Pena will come back and try it again.
- 2:02:22One and two to count, and Wally Moon pats him on the back.
- 2:02:29Singer tonight is much more on the strikeout beam than he has been in a while.
- 2:02:34He's had six strikeouts in seven innings.
- 2:02:37Now he has two strikes on Pena.
- 2:02:47So Roberto has a look at Sparky Anderson and comes back to the box.
- 2:02:54I see it held on by Parker.
- 2:02:56Three-three in the eighth.
- 2:02:59Singer ready.
- 2:03:01Check, send the pitch to Pena.
- 2:03:03Splash foul on first base upstairs.
- 2:03:07San Diego scored twice in the second inning.
- 2:03:10The Dodgers got one in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie.
- 2:03:13San Diego got a run in the sixth on Nate Colbert's 21st full run of the year,
- 2:03:17and the Dodgers came back to tie it in the bottom of the sixth.
- 2:03:23One-two pitch to Pena.
- 2:03:25Fastball grounded down to Sizemore.
- 2:03:27He goes to Wills.
- 2:03:28Maury back to Parker, not in time.
- 2:03:32Boy, Jose Arceo was stretched beyond second base.
- 2:03:36He almost came out of his uniform trying to break up the double plays.
- 2:03:40Tommy Dean will now run for Roberto Pena and will pause the station identification.
- 2:03:45This is the Los Angeles Dodgers radio network.
- 2:03:47Guest family entertainment centers find workmanship and good service after the sale
- 2:03:51from Munk Stereo Sound Systems 2812 East Thomas Road Phoenix
- 2:03:54where you can use your Arizona bank Bank of America card.
- 2:03:57KTAR Phoenix.
- 2:04:03The batter, Olly Brown.
- 2:04:10Olly had a shot that almost took the right shoe off Bill Singer's foot in the first inning.
- 2:04:15He walked in the third, popped up in the sixth.
- 2:04:19Singer-Ruddy delivers and Brown swings and misses.
- 2:04:25Boy, he had a rip at it.
- 2:04:260-1.
- 2:04:27Olly has had a sore back.
- 2:04:29When he went high in the air, as Sherry pointed out, to one end that drive up against the right field wall,
- 2:04:35he suddenly dropped his arms to his side and lowered his head.
- 2:04:39Here's the strike one pitch, Olly, low, 1-1.
- 2:04:42If you had had a camera trained on him at that particular moment,
- 2:04:46you'd have been positive that it was a brokenhearted and dejected outfielder who failed to catch a home run.
- 2:04:52That's the way he appears.
- 2:04:53Then suddenly, he flips the ball back to the infield.
- 2:05:10The next one to Brown, a strike, 1-2.
- 2:05:19Up at candlestick in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Giants leading 1-0.
- 2:05:24Marischal opened up with a single.
- 2:05:26He got to second base on a wild pitch, and with two out, Johnny Bench picked him off second base.
- 2:05:32Brown fouls it away, still 1-2.
- 2:05:36So with Ron Hunt, no, it was Willie Mays at the plate.
- 2:05:41Mays at the plate and Marischal at second.
- 2:05:44Johnny Bench nailed him, throwing the shortstop woodward.
- 2:05:47So the Giants failed to score in the eighth, and at the end of eighth, it remains Giants 1, Cincinnati nothing.
- 2:05:59If the Giants beat Cincinnati, Atlanta goes in the first place.
- 2:06:071-2 pitch to Brown, breaking ball got him looking.
- 2:06:10Strike, 3-4. Olly angry and lets fire know about it as he walks away.
- 2:06:23Seven strikeouts for Bill Singer.
- 2:06:28Here's Al Ferraro.
- 2:06:31Ferraro had the key out so far.
- 2:06:35He would have really scrambled the ball game in the third inning with the Padres leading 2-0 and 2-1.
- 2:06:42He sent Moda to the bullpen gate in left field for his long out.
- 2:07:03Ferraro waiting.
- 2:07:05Now Singer ready and delivers, and the pitch down and away, ball one.
- 2:07:14Two down, here in the eighth, a 3-3 tie.
- 2:07:17The Dodgers will have Sudeikis, Haller, and Sizemore in the bottom half of the inning.
- 2:07:26The pitch to Ferraro, breaking ball low, ball two.
- 2:07:29Tommy Dean at first base, running for Roberto Pena.
- 2:07:32Ferraro at the plate and Nate Colbert on deck.
- 2:07:38There in the ninth inning at Candlestick with the Giants leading 1-0.
- 2:07:42One Maraschall has allowed only one hit.
- 2:07:45Here's the 2-0 pitch. Ferraro takes the strike.
- 2:07:582-1, a count to Hal Ferraro.
- 2:08:02Singer straightens up, looks at Dean, works Ferraro, and it's fouled away.
- 2:08:07Off to the right out of play, 2-2.
- 2:08:12San Diego and the Dodgers in the first game of the three-game series.
- 2:08:20The only hit that Maraschall has allowed through eight innings at Candlestick
- 2:08:25was a line drive base hit by Tommy Helms, opening up the third inning.
- 2:08:30And Maraschall is now pitching the ninth, leading 1-0.
- 2:08:34Throater first, Dean back to the bag.
- 2:08:372-2, the count to Hal Ferraro.
- 2:08:42Bill Singer, right foot on the rubber.
- 2:08:45Haller sets the target, and the 2-2 pitch to Ferraro.
- 2:08:49Fastball fouled away.
- 2:08:53It's a press box facade and bounces down below.
- 2:08:59The Braves won.
- 2:09:02The Giants are winning.
- 2:09:04Houston lost, and the Dodgers are tied.
- 2:09:10The Mets won a double header, and the Cubs won over in the East.
- 2:09:17The Mets double header, a remarkable feat.
- 2:09:20The Mets beat the Mets twice in Pittsburgh by the identical scores of 1-0.
- 2:09:27Here's the 2-2 pitch to Ferraro.
- 2:09:29Fastball hits the wheels.
- 2:09:31Morey goes the short way to size for the 4th on Dean and that's that.
- 2:09:36No run to hit a man left.
- 2:09:38The end of 7-1-1-1, a 3-3 tie.

- 2:10:41Bottom of the eighth inning, a 3-3 tie.
- 2:10:46We get the report out of Candlestick that the Giants beat Cincinnati 1-0.
- 2:10:52Boy, we've had a ruck of those all of a sudden.
- 2:10:55The Dodgers beat Houston last night 1-0.
- 2:10:58The Mets beat Pittsburgh twice today 1-0.
- 2:11:02And the Giants knock off Cincinnati tonight 1-0.
- 2:11:06All right, bottom of the eighth, Sudeikis, Halloran, Sizemore.
- 2:11:17Ross into the windup, and the first one is swung on and missed, going one.
- 2:11:23Sudeikis had an infield single in the second inning,
- 2:11:26flied to right, and in the sixth inning, tripled into the right field corner.
- 2:11:32That was all for Santorini, and then he scored on a single by Sizemore to tie up the game.
- 2:11:39Sudeikis takes down and away, one ball, one strike.
- 2:11:50Sudeikis waiting, Gary Ross into the windup, and the pick's low and inside, ball two.
- 2:11:56Two and one.
- 2:12:10Now the 2-1 pitch on the way to Bill Sudeikis.
- 2:12:12A broken back, Luper to right field, I see it going out, and backhand.
- 2:12:18Oh, what a play.
- 2:12:28Jose Arcia made a fine play on a broken back, Luper into right field.
- 2:12:34Big, wavy second baseman, covers a lot of territory,
- 2:12:37and he can twist and turn that frame of his like a good basketball player.
- 2:12:42And he backhanded the ball to take a hit away from Suss, one away.
- 2:12:47Tom Haller has hit back to the box and walked twice.
- 2:12:52Ross delivers, and the pitch inside under the elbows, ball one.
- 2:12:57Big play by Arcia on the leadoff man in the eighth inning.
- 2:13:05Now the 1-0 pitch on the way, swung on and missed Haller out in front of a slow curve.
- 2:13:10One ball, one strike.
- 2:13:22Now the 1-1 pitch on the way, Haller takes a strike, one and two.
- 2:13:36Ross checking again with Kanizawa, now Gary into the windup, and the 1-2 pitch, fastball low, ball two, two and two.
- 2:13:55Now the 2-2 pitch on the way, ground foul outside of third and down the line.
- 2:14:14And here Ross picked up for Santorini in the sixth inning when he came into pitch to Haller, and he walked him. 2-2 pitch, one on and missed, strike three.
- 2:14:27So Haller strikes out, two down, and the batter will be Ted Sizemore, and Haller stops to talk to Sizemore before Ted goes to the plate.
- 2:14:38Sizemore grounded out, hit into a double play, and singled in the tying run in the sixth inning.
- 2:14:49By the way, when San Diego hits in the ninth, they have Colbert, Kelly, and Morales.
- 2:14:54Sizemore lifted foul off first, slicing down the line and out of play.
- 2:14:58Colbert goes over to the auxiliary scoreboard, but it's a back end by a row.
- 2:15:040-1.
- 2:15:19Sizemore waiting, no ball, one strike.
- 2:15:24Ross into the windup, and the fastball foul straight back.
- 2:15:280-2.
- 2:15:47Gary, both feet on the rubber, checking time, Sizemore waiting, and the strike two pitch on the way, bounce over the mound, back of second base, backhanded by Arcia, but he has no play.
- 2:15:59So Ted Sizemore comes up with his second hit, he's 2-4.
- 2:16:06And the batter will be girl singers.
- 2:16:10That might not appear to be an important hit, but it really is.
- 2:16:17It gets Singer up there in the eighth inning, and it gets him out of the way for the ninth.
- 2:16:26So then if Singer makes out to end the inning and the figures show that the odds are he will, the Dodgers in the ninth will have Wills leading off.
- 2:16:36All right, two out of the eighth, a 3-3 tie, a throw to first, Sizemore back to the bag.
- 2:16:41Singer has flied to right and struck out and hit into a fourth by trying to sacrifice.
- 2:16:47Still 0-3.
- 2:16:51Sizemore rarely steals a pitch low.
- 2:16:54The odds are he would not try it with a pitcher at the plate, but his percentage of success is very good.
- 2:17:00Ted has stolen five out of six.
- 2:17:091-0 to count to Bill Singer. Rock delivers, Bill takes low, ball two.
- 2:17:34Now the 2-0 pitch to Singer, a strike, 2-1.
- 2:17:43Bill backs out. It's a look at third base coach Danny Ozark.
- 2:17:55Sizemore short lead at first. Colbert holding. 2-1 pitch to Singer.
- 2:18:00Ground ball that's going to go through, base hit. Sizemore is going to take the extra base and will do it.
- 2:18:07So now Singer comes up with a bounce in fourth and hits sending Sizemore to third.
- 2:18:15Singer, who was hitting less than 100, gets a base hit.
- 2:18:21And Lori Wills has a chance to put the Dodgers out in front.
- 2:18:47So two hits here in the eighth inning.
- 2:18:53Run is at first and third, two out and here is Wills.
- 2:18:58So that hit by Sizemore, which allowed Singer to get to the plate, and now Singer comes up with a rare hit, till it Wills come up.
- 2:19:07So this has turned out to be a big moment for the Dodgers, as Wills, who was 2-4, has a chance to break the tie.
- 2:19:16So now, Sizemore is singled and grounded out, singled and hit into a fourth play.
- 2:19:23Ross up on top, set at the belt. There's a drive into left center, base hit by fourth score.
- 2:19:29Second base, and the Dodgers lead 4-3.
- 2:19:53So Lori Wills comes up with this third hit, a line drive base hit to catch in Sizemore.
- 2:20:00So with two out, three consecutive hits by Sizemore, Singer, and now Wills.
- 2:20:06The Dodgers leading 4-3. They have a dozen hits.
- 2:20:11And the batter, Manny Moda. Moda is 0-3.
- 2:20:17Ross Reddy delivers one on and missed, and down on his knees on home plate is Moda.
- 2:20:22So Hardy swung a dead one. 0-1 to count.
- 2:20:410-1 to count to Manny Moda. Singer, second. Wills, at first, two out on the eighth, 4-3 Dodges.
- 2:20:53Moda trying to make it an even bigger inning.
- 2:20:57And now Manny, tired of waiting, backs out.
- 2:21:01So that old story about some little acorns, large oak trees grow, the Dodgers with two out on the eighth,
- 2:21:06with the eighth and ninth hitters coming up, have proceeded to take the lead.
- 2:21:13Sizemore singles, but of course that's not news. He came into the game hitting 274.
- 2:21:19Bill Singer had nine hits all year when he singles.
- 2:21:24And then Wills came up with his third hit for the run.
- 2:21:29So it is 4-3 Dodgers, two out on the eighth inning.
- 2:21:32Moda trying to pick up Singer, who is wearing a glove to keep that right hand warm.
- 2:21:37He's always had circulation problems with the right hand.
- 2:21:41Moda waiting. Strike one-fifth. In the dirt, a throw down to first, not in time.
- 2:21:50Counting zero, loves to throw, and he throws well.
- 2:21:58Willie Davis on deck.
- 2:22:02Dodgers four, Padres three, two out on the eighth inning.
- 2:22:06Now Ross at the belt and delivers, breaking ball over. Good slow curve on the count one and two.
- 2:22:23Singer away from second base, the Dodgers trying to keep pace. The Giants one, Atlanta one.
- 2:22:31Here's a one-two pitch to Moda, down and away, backhanded by Canna-Zero, ball two, two and two.
- 2:22:44Archie is trying to bird dog Singer a little bit.
- 2:22:49He goes with Colbert deep, taking a pretty good lead, but he doesn't have anywhere to go with Singer in front of him.
- 2:22:56Here's the two-two pitch to Moda, low ball three.
- 2:23:01So the Dodgers get an offensive edge now, they can turn the runners loose.
- 2:23:07Singer will be going under a full head of steam, along with Wills, when Ross makes his pitch.
- 2:23:19Seventeen thousand eight hundred and eighteen out here tonight. Hope you'll be with us tomorrow night, it's ladies night.
- 2:23:25The runners go, Moda hits one up the middle, pay attention. Singer will score Wills to third, five-three Dodgers.
- 2:23:52The four consecutive singles with two out in the eighth inning, and the Dodgers have broken the tie and lead five-three.
- 2:24:01Preston Gomez to the mound, and that will be all for Gary Ross.
- 2:24:07Jack Valtion is down in the bullpen, but he is going to warm up, and we'll see who comes in.
- 2:24:19We know one thing, Gary Ross is going out. Billy McCool, the left-hander Billy McCool, will be brought in from the San Diego bullpen.
- 2:24:32We told you earlier that Maury Wills has extended his hitting streak. He has hit safely in twelve straights,
- 2:24:38and that he has had two or more hits in nine of those twelve games.
- 2:24:45Well, during that streak he's hitting 434, and he has three hits tonight.
- 2:24:51So Billy McCool coming in for Gary Ross.
- 2:24:57He'll be pitching to Willie Davis.
- 2:25:12So Billy McCool, the left-hander, coming out of the San Diego bullpen.
- 2:25:16There will be runners at first and third, Maury Wills at third, Manny Mota at first.
- 2:25:23Here in the innings, Sudeikis popped out and Haller struck out, and then it started.
- 2:25:28Sizemore singled up the middle, and Bill Singer singled up the middle.
- 2:25:34Maury Wills singled to center, Manny Mota singled to center.
- 2:25:41Here's your knock for not McCool.
- 2:25:55So Billy McCool getting ready.
- 2:25:57Willie Davis will be facing him with Mota at first and Wills at third.
- 2:26:04Don't forget during this homestand that every ballgame is so important.
- 2:26:10Tomorrow night, the same two ball clubs, and again Sunday afternoon.
- 2:26:14The Cincinnati Reds will be in Monday night, and then a twilight night doubleheader Tuesday evening,
- 2:26:21followed by the Atlanta Braves Wednesday and Thursday night.
- 2:26:25Then the Dodgers will go out on the road, go to San Francisco and Cincinnati,
- 2:26:31and come home for the final series of the year against the Giants and the Astros.
- 2:26:38It's the 27th of September.
- 2:26:40That will be Don Drysdale Day here at the ballpark.
- 2:26:44So this is going to be a dandy right down to the wire,
- 2:26:47and we sure hope you'll be out here enjoying all the fun with us.
- 2:26:51Willie Davis will be the batter against left-hander Billy McCool.
- 2:26:56Davis is 2 for 4 tonight.
- 2:26:59Dodgers have scored five runs and 13 hits,
- 2:27:02so they have come alive with the bat as soon as they get home after a very quiet road trip.
- 2:27:09McCool at the belt. Billy checks the runners.
- 2:27:12The pitch to Willie is a strike.
- 2:27:15McCool is swinging five with the lead.
- 2:27:23Marischal fits the one hitter to shut out the Reds.
- 2:27:27Marischal Osteen and Ferguson Jenkins all have seven shutouts this year.
- 2:27:34Here's the strike one pitch to Davis.
- 2:27:37Swung on and missed, the back goes to Gilliam in the count of 0-2.
- 2:27:46No ball, two strikes. Count to Willie Davis.
- 2:27:570-2.
- 2:27:59So Cincinnati started the day in first place.
- 2:28:02They have been knocked out of it,
- 2:28:04which means first place in the Western Division has changed 12 times since the All-Star Game
- 2:28:10and 22 times this year.
- 2:28:17Davis waiting 0-2.
- 2:28:19McCool at the belt as a look at his runners.
- 2:28:22Now the strike two pitch to Willie with motor going and swung on and missed strike three.
- 2:28:27So Davis strikes out, but the damage done, the Dodgers get two runs, four hits,
- 2:28:32lead two and at the end of eighth, Dodgers five, quadrace three.

- 2:29:39Bill Singer loosening up to Tommy Haller as we go to the ninth inning.
- 2:29:42The Dodgers five runs, 13 hits and one error.
- 2:29:45The Padres three runs, five hits and one error.
- 2:29:49For San Diego, Nate Colbert, Van Kelly and Jerry Morales.
- 2:29:57Five runs, 13 hits.
- 2:30:00One error for the Dodgers, three, five and one for San Diego.
- 2:30:04The last time the Dodgers scored five runs in a ball game was right here.
- 2:30:10When they beat the Mets five to four, that was the last game of our last home stand.
- 2:30:17That night had five runs, 12 hits.
- 2:30:21So they come home and register five on 13 hits.
- 2:30:28Nate Colbert grounded his short, fly to right and the homers.
- 2:30:33Big right hand hitting first baseman has 21 home runs and he takes five, ball one.
- 2:30:47Want to know, Nate?
- 2:30:49Singer comes right back to him with a fastball low ball two.
- 2:30:55In the Dodger bullpen we can see Jim Brewer.
- 2:31:03Here's a 2-0 pitch on the way.
- 2:31:06Line drive, the left field, solid base hit for Colbert.
- 2:31:10Modap with the ball, bobbles it, then quickly recovers and gets it in.
- 2:31:14So Colbert a long single and the battle will be Van Kelly.
- 2:31:21Half a dozen hits for the Padres.
- 2:31:24Van Kelly has walked, popped up and grounded out.
- 2:31:27He's 0-2.
- 2:31:41Singer trying to win his 19th tonight.
- 2:31:43He's lost nine.
- 2:31:47Bill also trying to complete his 15th game.
- 2:31:50Kelly, left hand batter, takes a breaking ball for a strike.
- 2:32:020-1 to count.
- 2:32:04Singer ready and the strike one pitch is high, 1-1.
- 2:32:07For those of you who are interested in the game of the Coliseum and football,
- 2:32:10Alcorn A&M 16, rambling seven.
- 2:32:14That's at the end of three quarters.
- 2:32:15I know there's a great deal of interest about that game.
- 2:32:211-1 to count to Van Kelly.
- 2:32:25Nine-pinning, 5-3 Dodgers.
- 2:32:28Singer looks at first, comes to the plate, missing away.
- 2:32:31Ball two, 2-1.
- 2:32:43The pitch to Van Kelly, low ball three.
- 2:32:46So Singer leading 5-3 in the ninth inning but struggling a little bit.
- 2:32:56Bill has struck out seven.
- 2:33:00Straightens up and the 3-1 pitch is a high fly ball into left center field.
- 2:33:04Davis and Moda converging.
- 2:33:06It will be Davis who one-hands it over Moda's head as he goes by.
- 2:33:13Like a fellow picking an apple off a tree while riding on a horseback,
- 2:33:16he just seems to flag it.
- 2:33:18Let's pause the station identification.
- 2:33:20This is the Los Angeles Dodgers Radio Network.
- 2:33:22The Good Son, K-T-A-R, Phoenix.
- 2:33:35Jerry Morales coming up.
- 2:33:37Morales doubled up the alley in right center.
- 2:33:41Fly to right and struck out.
- 2:33:44Right-hand batting.
- 2:33:47On deck is Larry Stahl.
- 2:33:55Walter Olson, a brief chat with Singer, now turns and goes back to the dugout.
- 2:34:00The Dodgers 5, 5-3, one out in the ninth inning.
- 2:34:06First game of the three-game series.
- 2:34:09The Dodgers trying to keep pace.
- 2:34:12Atlanta and the Giants 1, Cincinnati and Houston lost.
- 2:34:16The pitch is tight.
- 2:34:220-1 to Morales.
- 2:34:25Right-hand batting.
- 2:34:27The Dodgers lead it first and Parker not holding.
- 2:34:30Singer comes to the plate, missing down and away.
- 2:34:33One ball, one strike.
- 2:34:44Singer ready and the 1-1 pitch to Jerry Morales is a high fly ball to Willie Davis.
- 2:34:50He backs up under it now.
- 2:34:52Two out in the ninth inning.
- 2:35:01And Larry Stahl will come up in bat for Chris Cannigero.
- 2:35:17Larry Stahl, left-hand hitting outfielder, has three home runs and 10 RBIs.
- 2:35:25And Bill Singer, one out away from his 15th complete game.
- 2:35:31Bill delivers, Stahl takes away, ball one.
- 2:35:34Olstein has completed 15 of 36.
- 2:35:37Singer, if he can do it, will have completed 15 out of 35.
- 2:35:43Each will have 119.
- 2:35:45The 1-0 pitch, Stahl takes the strike.
- 2:35:511-1 to Larry Stahl, two down, ninth inning, 5-3 Dodgers.
- 2:36:00Singer at the belt and the 1-1 pitch on the way, outside and high, ball two.
- 2:36:12Tomorrow night, Jim Bunning goes against Joe Necro.
- 2:36:17Here's a 2-1 pitch to Stahl, swung on and missed, strike two.
- 2:36:21Back to pitching for the weekend, Jim Bunning and Joe Necro tomorrow night.
- 2:36:26Don Sutton and Clay Kirby, Sunday afternoon.
- 2:36:362-2 pitch on the way, high, ball three.
- 2:36:40And the second on deck, Ed Spizio, right hand hitter with socks.
- 2:36:47So Singer will just as soon do the job with Stahl.
- 2:36:51He's gone all the way, so Colbert ready to leave first base on the pitch.
- 2:36:55There he goes, and it's high, and so the ball game is still very much alive.
- 2:37:05And Singer, that would be the third walk he has issued.
- 2:37:12Now here's the announcement on Spizio.
- 2:37:23Walter Austin has gone out to the mound and he's bringing a hook with him.
- 2:37:27So the Dodgers will be going to the bullpen, and I would assume they'll bring in Brewer, and that's who it is.
- 2:37:33So Spizio is called up to hit, and immediately Austin makes his second trip to the mound.
- 2:37:39That meant that was all for Singer, so he does not get his 15th complete game.
- 2:37:44Now we'll see about whether Spizio is the batter or not.
- 2:37:48Ivan Morrell comes out of the dugout.
- 2:37:51Spizio has been announced as the batter for McCool.
- 2:37:57And Jim Brewer will be brought in to pitch to him.
- 2:38:07The Padres led in the ball game. They scored twice in the second inning.
- 2:38:11Morales doubled home one, and Canadaro squeezed home Morales.
- 2:38:15The Dodgers, however, got it back on three hits in the fourth inning for a run, added the tying run in the fifth inning on two hits.
- 2:38:23Each side scored in the sixth inning, Colbert at home, and in the bottom half of the sixth, Sudeikis tripled and scored.
- 2:38:32So it was 3-3 in the eighth inning, and with two out on the bottom of the eighth, Sizemore, Singer, Wills, and Mota all singled consecutively.
- 2:38:41That added two and gave the Dodgers the five to three lead.
- 2:38:45Now Jim Brewer and his screwball ask to come in and get Spizio and bring this thing back in the locker room.
- 2:38:52Spizio, as we mentioned, has sock. He has 13 home runs.
- 2:38:57And Bill Singer, who goes eight and two thirds, gets an ovation as he comes out.
- 2:39:02Bill Singer got the job done into the ninth inning, and in this day and age, any time you get that close, you have turned in quite a performance.
- 2:39:29So Singer leaves with two out in the ninth inning, and Jim Brewer is asked to come in and get Ed Spizio.
- 2:39:35Spizio, formerly with the St. Louis Cardinals, right-hand batter, average at 240, 13 home runs, 36 runs batted in.
- 2:39:46Apparently Spizio will bat, and then Morrell is out on deck to bat for Arcia should the inning be prolonged.
- 2:39:58Atlanta beat Houston, so Atlanta will go into first place.
- 2:40:02The Giants beat Cincinnati, and the Giants will be trailing Atlanta by half a game in second.
- 2:40:07Cincinnati will be in third.
- 2:40:09The Dodgers, if they can hold on to their lead, will be in fourth place a game and a half back.
- 2:40:16Houston, the losers, they lost today. They'll be three and a half back.
- 2:40:20But right now, the big moment, head-to-head duel between Jim Brewer and pinch hitter Ed Spizio.
- 2:40:27Left-hander, ready and deals, screwball very high, ball one, one and oh.
- 2:40:40We get a report about Bill Singer, and it shows you what a courageous performance he turned in tonight.
- 2:40:46Spizio takes a strike, one and one.
- 2:40:49Way back in the very first inning, Holly Brown almost took Bill Singer's right foot off with a shot,
- 2:40:56and that's why he left. That right ankle had puffed up and was bothering him, and he finally had to come out.
- 2:41:02So there's a guy who was pitching with a bad ankle and got into the ninth with two outs before they had to take him out.
- 2:41:08Screwball, one down and missed, one and two.
- 2:41:13So the pride of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Mr. James Brewer, got to pop the cork on this one with two outs, one and two to Ed Spizio.
- 2:41:25Nate Colbert at second, Larry Stahl at first, two out, and the screwball way outside and high, ball two.
- 2:41:39He certainly doesn't want to work three and two to Spizio and then have the potential tying runs in motion.
- 2:41:46So we'll see what comes now, two balls and two strikes.
- 2:41:49Brew Reddy delivers. Screwball, got him 20.
- 2:42:01No runs, one hit, two left.
- 2:42:04As Jim Brewer comes in to strike out Spizio with his screwball, the Dodgers win it five to three.
- 2:42:10We'll have the totals of the winning and losing pictures right after this message.
- 2:42:14You know, we Americans have many traditions, some large, some so small you probably never think of them unless they're missing.
- 2:42:19Like, have you ever gone to a movie theater and found they don't have popcorn?
- 2:42:22Well, it's just not right, is it? You just should have a big box of hot buttered popcorn at the movies.
- 2:42:27And Thanksgiving certainly wouldn't be Thanksgiving without turkey, cranberries, pumpkin pie.
- 2:42:31Or if you're camping, what about hot dogs and baked beans and hot dogs at the ballpark, right?
- 2:42:36Of course, at a baseball game, a man has to have something cold to go with that hot dog.
- 2:42:40How about a good ice cold beer? In my way, I think that beer's got to be a Berge.
- 2:42:44It's as important as that Thanksgiving pumpkin pie tasting just like Mother used to make.
- 2:42:49What's so special about Berge? I guess it's that light, easygoing taste.
- 2:42:53It's comfortable, so comfortable you can keep on drinking it even if the game goes into extra innings.
- 2:42:58I guess that's a pretty darn good way to judge a beer. So go ahead, open up a Berge to go along with the ballgame.
- 2:43:03After all, baseball and Berge is practically a tradition.
- 2:43:06In fact, you might even put that ahead of Mom's pumpkin pie.
- 2:43:13The turtles on the ballgame for the Dodgers, five runs, 13 hits and one error.
- 2:43:18For the Padres, three runs, six hits and one error.
- 2:43:21The winning pitcher, Bill Singer, left with two out on the ninth because of his sore ankle.
- 2:43:25He had been hit by a shot off the bat of Ollie Brown on the first inning and went into the ninth before it bothered him to come out.
- 2:43:31Singer is now 19 and nine, two and one against San Diego.
- 2:43:36Relief pitcher, Gary Ross, who pitched so well to beat the Dodgers in San Diego in the recent series, suffers the defeat and Ross is now three and 12.
- 2:43:45The Dodgers keep pace. They remain a game and a half out, but they're still right on the heels of Atlanta, San Francisco and Cincinnati.
- 2:43:53On the last night, Jim Bunning and Joe Necro warm up at 740, game time at eight and it's ladies night and we sure hope you'll be out here with us.
- 2:44:01Once again, the final score, Dodgers five, Padres three.
- 2:44:05Now this has been Scully along with Jerry Doggett inviting you to stay tuned to the postgame show coming right up.
