- 0:32Randy show where we talk tech, innovation and the people
- 0:36transforming medicine, aesthetics and beauty.
- 0:40Today's guest, He's a former Johnson and Johnson executive, a
- 0:44biotech founder and the creator of the Juvisonic skin delivery
- 0:49device. Please welcome Doctor Sanjay
- 0:52Batra. We're so excited to have you on
- 0:54the show today. Doctor Batra, I've been seeing
- 0:56you all over media and social media as well as articles out
- 1:01there. So congratulations on everything
- 1:04that you've been working on and we are very excited to dive in.
- 1:08If you don't mind telling us a little bit of an introduction
- 1:11about yourself and then we'll dive into questions right away.
- 1:14Doctor Randy, let me start by saying what a pleasure it is to
- 1:17be with you today and to be able to tell my story.
- 1:20By way of brief introduction, I'm a PhD scientist, born in
- 1:25India, raised in Canada, and I've spent the last 35 years in
- 1:29healthcare, biotech, pharmaceuticals, medical
- 1:32devices, and my wife and I started our company five years
- 1:36ago and we're on a heck of a journey.
- 1:38Amazing. Well, I've been watching your
- 1:40journey and that's how we wound up here today because I, I saw
- 1:44it, I was intrigued and I know you have something very special
- 1:47and it is my understanding. So we're going to dive right
- 1:50into Juvisonic because that is where it seems that all of the
- 1:53excitement is surrounding right now.
- 1:55I read that you built this in your basement and now it's being
- 2:00used in aesthetics clinics nationwide.
- 2:03So tell us, you know, I'm sure the listeners, the viewers are
- 2:07interested. How did you get from do it
- 2:10Yourself to distribution? Yeah, so it's a really
- 2:14fascinating question, and I'm going to tell you the story.
- 2:17Not many people know it, but about five years ago I met an
- 2:22engineer. He had worked at NASA and at
- 2:25Corning, a brilliant guy. And he had diabetes, and his
- 2:29goal was to create a device to deliver insulin through the skin
- 2:35without a needle. It was his life's mission.
- 2:39So I invested some money with him on prototypes and I started
- 2:43in my lab and the device that he created didn't work.
- 2:47I would leave the lab every Saturday going what the heck is
- 2:50going on? And I had to create a device
- 2:53that would deliver through the stat stratum corneum, the
- 2:57barrier of human skin without a needle.
- 3:00And that's how the idea of Juva Sonic was created.
- 3:04It's amazing. I love this story and how it
- 3:07started with the health industry and now we've moved into
- 3:10aesthetics and it seems that aesthetic clinics nationwide are
- 3:13catching on. And as I understand, this is a
- 3:17handheld device, right, not one of it's not a large box device
- 3:21that's going into clinics. But what's great is the story
- 3:24from for clinics as well As for patients is so amazing.
- 3:29And what you're about to tell us is really the transformation of
- 3:33aesthetics. We love to stay on the cutting
- 3:35edge of what's happening. You know what's next.
- 3:37And Juva Sonic seems to be what is next.
- 3:41So claims to increase topical absorption in under 30 seconds.
- 3:48So what's really happening there with the skin?
- 3:51So, you know, God and evolution created us to be waterproof.
- 3:56That's a reality. And what Juva Sonic does is it
- 4:00temporarily disrupts the outer layer of the skin, the outermost
- 4:05layer called the stratum corneum.
- 4:08If it wasn't for the stratum corneum, we'd look like
- 4:11shriveled up raisins and we wouldn't be protected from the
- 4:15environment. So I looked at a variety of
- 4:18technologies and we finally found one, and it's embodied in
- 4:23Juva Sonic that involves Sonic vibration and microdermabrasion,
- 4:29temporarily opening up the stratum cornea.
- 4:33And that is what is allowing the absorption.
- 4:36Is that correct? Exactly, otherwise everything
- 4:40would sit on the surface of your skin and not get to where it
- 4:44needs to go. Juva Sonic creates exactly like
- 4:49you said, with a simple 32nd protocol per area.
- 4:53It creates a temporary disruption of the stratum
- 4:56corneum. So topical serums, whether
- 5:00they're PDRN or PRP exosomes, growth factor cytokines where
- 5:06they can actually enter into the dermis.
- 5:09And that's been an amazing revelation in our lab.
- 5:12We tried different technologies, most of them didn't work, and
- 5:17then we stumbled around this very simple idea of Sonic
- 5:21vibration and Dermabrasion, and that's Juva Sonic.
- 5:25So micro needling has been so huge in our industry now for
- 5:30quite some time and that is how we've been told that we're going
- 5:33to get these, you know, serums and things into our skin at a
- 5:37deeper level. So can you tell us, you know,
- 5:39not only for the clinics out there, but for the consumers out
- 5:42there that are doing micro needling, tell us, is this
- 5:45replacing micro needling? Tell us how this works.
- 5:48Now it's a great question and let me start by saying that
- 5:52micro needling has its place. If you look at the literature
- 5:56100 years ago, they started using micro needling in Germany
- 6:00as a form of collagen induction therapy.
- 6:04The needles would go into the skin, create a micro wound and
- 6:08that would lead to the production of new collagen.
- 6:10In fact, if you go back probably thousands of years, the Chinese
- 6:15had been working on it. So there is a place for micro
- 6:18needling, but it can be a bit inflammatory.
- 6:21And when you you think about it, when you take a needle and put
- 6:24it into the skin, if you create pinpoint bleeding, which what
- 6:29most micro needling devices do after a millimeter in depth,
- 6:33what happens is you have a coagulation event and blood
- 6:37coming up in the opposite direction that you're drop
- 6:41trying to put serums in. So we think that Juva Sonic is
- 6:45just a different way. It's needle free, it's pain free
- 6:49with no downtime. It doesn't mean that there isn't
- 6:52a place for micro needling, this is just a different way.
- 6:56OK. So in the mind of our clinicians
- 7:00and our consumers right now, have you compared side by side?
- 7:05I'm sure you have clinical testing.
- 7:07How are the results differing? I've had micro needling.
- 7:11I'm sure many of our listeners have had micro needling.
- 7:14So how does this compare doing something that's completely non
- 7:18invasive to micro needling and how are the results?
- 7:21Yeah, so we definitely studied micro needling, and what we
- 7:25found is that when the needles come out, think of a pincushion
- 7:30and you put a lot of pins in it, the minute you take the pin out,
- 7:34the hole closes up again. God and evolution created us to
- 7:39be pretty waterproof, pretty impervious to the environment.
- 7:43What Juva Sonic does, it's almost like sandpaper.
- 7:47It opens up mechanically the stratum cornea.
- 7:51So while there's a place for micro needling, we think this is
- 7:55a better way to deliver ingredients.
- 7:58We think the place for micro needling is for collagen
- 8:02induction, which is a different phenomenon than taking a vampire
- 8:07facial or exosome, putting it on the skin and trying to micro
- 8:11needle it in, because when the needles leave the skin, the
- 8:15holes close. That's what we found in our lab.
- 8:18We've studied this very extensively and we found that
- 8:22the Juvia Sonic technology literally opens up the pathway
- 8:27for exosomes and PDRN because the stratum corneum gets
- 8:31temporarily disrupted. So that makes sense.
- 8:35Yeah, absolutely. So you're saying now that with a
- 8:39non invasive treatment where don't have to have holes poked
- 8:43in our skin and you know a little bleeding, it does heal
- 8:46quickly, but it's bloody, right. So you're saying we can get that
- 8:50same result now without having to endure the bleeding, right?
- 8:55Yeah, well, we're studying it intensely.
- 8:57We have dermatologists and plastic surgeons.
- 9:00In fact, my good friend Doctor Gordon Suzaki in Pasadena loves
- 9:05Juvisonic. He's doing studies for us.
- 9:07We're working with doctors all over the world, actually, to
- 9:11understand the clinical outcomes you can get with Juvisonic.
- 9:15And I think it will have its place.
- 9:17It's different than micro needling.
- 9:19It doesn't mean that micro needling doesn't have a place.
- 9:22At the end of the day, when it comes to skin and hair, it's
- 9:25usually combination treatments that really yield the best
- 9:29clinical outcomes. That's very true.
- 9:31And I'm a big proponent of so many of that, so much of that
- 9:33like skin cycling, all of the different components that make
- 9:37us so how many, where can we find this right now?
- 9:40How many clinics is it currently in?
- 9:42Yeah. So we launched about 120 days
- 9:45ago. We're very early in the
- 9:47commercial launch of Juva Sonic, but we've sold hundreds of
- 9:51devices throughout the United States.
- 9:54I have a distributor in Canada, a couple in the Middle East.
- 9:58We're growing internationally. You can buy the device from our
- 10:02website and we're building out our own sales force.
- 10:05So you'll be, as you're following me on LinkedIn and
- 10:08reading all about it 120 days into the launch.
- 10:11We've had success. We continue to plan for success
- 10:15by bringing in more sales reps throughout the United States.
- 10:19And you know something I think you said at the very outset is
- 10:22actually really important to me. That's collaboration.
- 10:26On our own, we can get so far, but in order to be successful,
- 10:30you have to collaborate. And that's why I'm collaborating
- 10:33with skin care companies, exosome companies, PDRN
- 10:37companies, because it's that 1 + 1 = 3 where the magic happens,
- 10:42you know? Yes, that's very true.
- 10:44And then those partnerships will be where the winds are.
- 10:48Well, we're going to have to find me a clinic down here in
- 10:51Boca Raton so that I can test out the treatment and we can
- 10:55talk to the viewers and listeners about how that works.
- 10:58So let's do that together. Yeah, I'd be.
- 11:01I'd be happy to arrange for a treatment for you in Boca.
- 11:04No problem at all. OK, that would be great.
- 11:06And we can and then we can talk about it live and show the
- 11:09results. I do try to try every device.
- 11:13You probably heard me say on previous episodes, I'm 54,
- 11:17facelift free. So I am trying, you know, to
- 11:20fight aging every step of the way.
- 11:22So if I can do something that's non invasive and you're looking
- 11:26at a face that's had four CO2 treatments.
- 11:29So if I can do something that rejuvenates my skin without
- 11:32having to cause any wounds, I love that.
- 11:36By the way, Amy and I will be in Florida in September at a
- 11:38conference. Maybe we can meet you and do a
- 11:41treatment personally. Right there with you, if you'd
- 11:43like. We'll figure it out.
- 11:45Yes, that would be wonderful. I'd love to meet you both.
- 11:47And we can do that and we can film it and make a big deal of
- 11:50it. So I'd love that.
- 11:52So this is a Sonic technology, is that correct?
- 11:55So basically, instead of needles, we're disrupting the
- 11:58skin without damaging it. I think this is so important to
- 12:03our consumers out there right now.
- 12:05While is it is exciting to clinicians, it's more exciting
- 12:10to even the consumers. I learned a statistic when I was
- 12:15studying GLP ones when they first launched that over 25% of
- 12:21the US population is a, is afraid of needles.
- 12:24And there's actually like a phobia for that, which I can't
- 12:27remember the name of right now, but it's a funny word, but it's
- 12:30needle phobia, right? And so.
- 12:33It's called pteranophobia. There you go.
- 12:36There you go, Doctor Basra. So there are so many people that
- 12:39have the fear of needles, have the fear of pain in general.
- 12:42The first thing people always ask me, because I get a lot of
- 12:45these treatments, then they're like, didn't it hurt?
- 12:47I'm like, well, yeah, it does hurt.
- 12:49But you know, at the end of the day, we were looking for
- 12:51results. So pain is involved.
- 12:53So I think that this is going to be a home run with the consumer
- 12:58because people don't like pain, right?
- 13:00They're adverse to pain. They don't want pain.
- 13:02And I think you're feeling a niche where you're able to get
- 13:05similar results or the same results as micro needling, which
- 13:10is one of the hottest treatments right now without having to have
- 13:13any pain. So is that something that's I'm
- 13:16assuming involved in your marketing campaign?
- 13:18Well, you're exactly right. You know, when we started with
- 13:21Juva Sonic, we were happy when people said it doesn't hurt.
- 13:26So we're wow, this is good. We're on to something where it's
- 13:29pain free. But actually now the majority of
- 13:34people, the vast majority of people who have a Juvasonic
- 13:38treatment report that it feels good.
- 13:41It feels like a massage. You know, the tip is here, it's
- 13:44a little syringe. You load up a vial in the device
- 13:48and you'll see the vibration. It has three different speeds.
- 13:54You can double click it for red light, double click it for blue
- 13:58light, and it literally feels like a massage.
- 14:02So not only does it not hurt, it feels good.
- 14:06That's so let me ask you as I'm looking at the device and for
- 14:10those who can't see it, how big is that?
- 14:11Maybe like a six inch device, handheld like the size of a like
- 14:16an electric razor almost right? Exactly right.
- 14:19It weighs only, I think like a the weight of a deck of cards.
- 14:23It's smaller than an electric toothbrush, Yeah.
- 14:25Right. And is this something that
- 14:28people will be able to use at home one day?
- 14:31So that's a really great question.
- 14:34We were thinking when we launched if this should be a
- 14:37home use device, but we wanted to get the endorsement and
- 14:41validation from healthcare providers.
- 14:44So we launched as a professional use only device.
- 14:48But over time, I can imagine even a smaller version,
- 14:52something that can be used at home where we provide a variety
- 14:56of skin boosters or hair boosters or firming serums and
- 15:01people can use the device at home.
- 15:03Right now it's a professional only device.
- 15:06OK, gotcha. Well, about five years ago, I
- 15:09was interviewed at a medical conference, and they said to me
- 15:14it was all the devices, you know, those big conferences
- 15:16where all the device companies are there and all the devices
- 15:19are featured. And they said, what do you think
- 15:22is the future of aesthetic medical devices?
- 15:26And this was being played on like a big screen inside.
- 15:29And it wasn't the very popular answer, but the answer I gave,
- 15:33because it really is how I feel is that medical aesthetic
- 15:38devices will transition into a lot of home devices, right?
- 15:41People love the convenience of being in their own home and they
- 15:45love being able to have control over the devices.
- 15:48I know for myself, I have a few of the handheld devices that I
- 15:52use at home. I have a red light mask that's a
- 15:55medical grade. I have a handheld device that
- 15:57does a bunch of different things for my face.
- 15:59But I think this is the way of the future.
- 16:02I think that people love convenience.
- 16:04People love bite sized treatments and I think that
- 16:07you're thinking in the way that I think that our industry will
- 16:11be within five years more five more years that like there's
- 16:14going to be so many of these treatments available in our
- 16:16home. I couldn't agree more.
- 16:19And Doctor Randy, I would add to that one other thing.
- 16:22That's the concept of early treatment as prevention.
- 16:26So I think people will start using devices when they're
- 16:30younger before they have issues that they're worried about.
- 16:34From the point of view of prevention, just like we go to
- 16:37the gym and take care of our teeth and things like that.
- 16:40It's about early treatment as a form of prevention.
- 16:44Yes, the prejuvenation. Right, Exactly, right, exactly.
- 16:48It's funny because now everybody I meet that's in their 20s is
- 16:52having Botox and filler. And I'm thinking like, I didn't
- 16:56even go near any of that until I was in my mid 40s because it
- 16:59really wasn't a thing. And now I'm stuck with a couple
- 17:02of permanent wrinkles that, you know, I wish I'd gotten ahead
- 17:05of. But I agree with you.
- 17:06I think people want to get ahead.
- 17:08They see some of the wrinkling on family members and friends
- 17:11and they're like, I want to get ahead of that.
- 17:13So I think we are in a prejuvenation era and I think
- 17:17that that fits in very well. So how does this differ from for
- 17:22example, like the the pens, the micro needling tools, like the
- 17:25smaller tools as a consumer and a clinician, like how does that
- 17:29differentiate from those pens? Yeah, it's sort of in the same
- 17:33category. I would say price point wise, we
- 17:37priced Juva Sonic to be very approachable.
- 17:40So the aesthetician, the Med spa, not only the derm or
- 17:44plastic can afford Juva Sonic. I don't mind sharing the price.
- 17:48It's $1900. The consumable is between 15 and
- 17:53$20. We wanted this to be accessible
- 17:56to people and that's why we priced it where we did.
- 18:00If you look at the pens, they generally are in that range or
- 18:04are more expensive and we wanted to put this in the hands
- 18:07potentially of any provider, you know.
- 18:10Yeah, that's, I mean that's phenomenal pricing and it it's
- 18:12accessible to everyone. So what are you pairing it with
- 18:17in the industry? Like what products are you
- 18:19pairing with? So, you know, so I'm a scientist
- 18:22and I've been very cautious around aligning with a
- 18:27particular brand of PRP or an exosome or a PDRN until we have
- 18:33more data. Right now, Juva Sonic is sold
- 18:37with 10 cartridges that can be filled with the serum of your
- 18:42choice. So if someone wants to use a
- 18:45certain brand of exosome, they can.
- 18:48If they want to use a certain PRP, they can.
- 18:51It's agnostic. Think of it like the empty
- 18:54Keurig coffee pot. If you want to make Starbucks,
- 18:58you can. If you want to make Earl Grey
- 19:00tea, you can. You can use whatever serum you'd
- 19:03like. And in the setting of hair,
- 19:05people are loving this device. With minoxidil or finasteride or
- 19:09botanicals, you can use whatever product you'd like.
- 19:13And and that's why it's not like we're competing with others and
- 19:17saying my exosome is better than yours.
- 19:19You know, you see a lot of that fighting going around in our
- 19:22industry here. You can use this device with
- 19:25whatever product you'd like to use it with.
- 19:27OK. And so the way the device is
- 19:30built, it can partner with any type of serum or topical, so it
- 19:34is working for hair as well. Oh, absolutely.
- 19:37In fact, most of our work has been in hair.
- 19:40And you know, when you think about hair loss, it affects 85%
- 19:44of men, 50% of women, and that's a home use application like no
- 19:49other. Because a young guy or woman who
- 19:51has a family history of androgenetic alopecia may not
- 19:55want to go to a doctor for a treatment.
- 19:58And by the way, PRP injections hurt like heck.
- 20:01This could be the ideal device in the comfort and privacy of
- 20:05your own home you could use for thinning hair.
- 20:08And that's why we're so excited about that home use application
- 20:12down the road. Right.
- 20:13And so you couldn't put, you could buy your minoxidil and you
- 20:17could put it into the device and then administer it yourself.
- 20:21I think you're right. I think there's a lot of
- 20:22embarrassment when it comes to hair loss and even skin
- 20:26conditions. People are would rather deal
- 20:29with having acne or skin conditions, melasma whatnot and
- 20:32hide it with makeup rather than go and get it treated because
- 20:35they're like a little bit embarrassed, right?
- 20:37So. You're exactly right, and this
- 20:41revolution that we're experiencing in aesthetics
- 20:43around regenerative aesthetics makes this the perfect thing to
- 20:48treat with that allows it to be much more natural.
- 20:52Right, right. So right now in the patients
- 20:56that you've seen, how are they the results that they're seeing
- 21:00on their skin, what are they saying?
- 21:01Tell me about that. Yeah.
- 21:03So first of all, everyone loves the treatment because it doesn't
- 21:06hurt. There's no pain or downtime.
- 21:09You can have a treatment in the summer and go out in the sun.
- 21:11So there are a lot of advantages that way.
- 21:14What we're finding is some niche applications.
- 21:17So we published just a week ago our first study in the Journal
- 21:22of Cosmetic Dermatology, finding a new application for Juvisonic
- 21:27doctor Randy. It's the breakdown of dermal
- 21:30filler nodules. So when you inject certain
- 21:34dermal fillers, if you inject them too superficially, you can
- 21:38create a nodule. This is particularly true of
- 21:41Sculptra and Radius. So we did a study in my lab, we
- 21:45partnered with Doctor Alec McCarthy of MERS, Chino Bay
- 21:50Aguera, Dr. Greg Turn off and we looked at if Juva Sonic can
- 21:55breakdown nodules from filler. So that's yet another
- 21:59application for the technology that we're super excited about.
- 22:03Yeah, that's phenomenal. And that is something that
- 22:05happens. I like to use filler and
- 22:08sometimes filler starts up here, winds up here, you know, things
- 22:12move around. So it has been effective for
- 22:15that. Yeah.
- 22:16For the breakdown of nodules, we've looked at early onset
- 22:20nodules, so nodules that happen at or about the time of
- 22:23injection, but we also have a couple of case studies of
- 22:27nodules that are close to two years in age.
- 22:30So this is someone who had a nodule, they couldn't treat it.
- 22:35They were walking around with literally what felt like a
- 22:38Pebble under their skin. Again, at two years, they had
- 22:42one treatment of Juvasonic and reported a 50% reduction in the
- 22:47palpation of the nodule. And by the way, this was a
- 22:50facial plastic surgeon who had the nodule.
- 22:53So he was a very informed individual and he found that
- 22:56Juvasonic, what it would do is take the nodule, break it down
- 23:00and spread it into the deeper dermis, basically taking a bad
- 23:05injection and turning it into a good result.
- 23:08Wow. You know, that's funny.
- 23:09I had in my mind today one of the questions that I wanted to
- 23:13ask you was have you found any off label uses for the Jew
- 23:18Sonic? And that sounds like one right
- 23:19there. Oh, Doctor Randy, it's just
- 23:22beginning. We're looking at ophthalmology,
- 23:24sexual Wellness. The applications are creating a
- 23:27portfolio in a product. You know, we have to be focused.
- 23:30We want to use this to enhance the delivery of topicals.
- 23:33We think the nodule resolution is a big one.
- 23:36I have patents filed for both of those applications, patents
- 23:40pending. We're developing a lot of
- 23:42intellectual property on this device and ultimately it will be
- 23:45in the hands of providers that will guide us where to go next.
- 23:50Phenomenal. So you're building this in your
- 23:53home. You're like true entrepreneur
- 23:57and creator. And what was the moment that you
- 24:01said to yourself, I think this thing might actually work?
- 24:05So I have a lab about 15 minutes from here.
- 24:08I've had it for seven years. It's at the Pennsylvania
- 24:11Biotechnology Center. I would say about two or three
- 24:15years into this project looking at various technologies that
- 24:19didn't work, we looked at ultrasound, iontophoresis and
- 24:24electroporation. Those are all commercially
- 24:27available devices by the way, for significantly more money
- 24:31than Juva Sonic. When we found this vibration
- 24:35device with Sonic energy and we were looking at it in the
- 24:38camera, I have a 50 megahertz ultrasound camera in my lab to
- 24:43image humans skin and we saw it like a photo of Renoir starry
- 24:49night and we're literally having an oh moment and we're seeing
- 24:54the stratum corneum open up. We knew that we had a winner and
- 24:58we just had to relentlessly pursue the technology to
- 25:02commercialize it in a way that's attractive and affordable, and
- 25:06that's what we've done. Well, congratulations because
- 25:10it, it worked and what an what an amazing, you know, like you
- 25:14built it right? And now it's being put to use
- 25:17and people are loving it. So if you had to put into a few
- 25:21sentences, how does Juva Sonic fit into the future of skin
- 25:27care? Are we moving towards needle
- 25:29free everything? Like what is your legacy with
- 25:33Juva Sonic? What do you hope to achieve?
- 25:35It's a very thought provoking question.
- 25:38I would say to the entrepreneurs who are listening today, don't
- 25:42settle for me too. If there's a micro needling
- 25:45device and now you want to create a micro needling device
- 25:48that's 10% cheaper or blue instead of silver, don't settle
- 25:53for me too and slightly cheaper or whatever.
- 25:56Go with something really innovative, change the world, do
- 25:59something different. And that was the ethos that we
- 26:02had. Would you have a Sonic doctor,
- 26:04Randy, as we wanted to create something that addressed an
- 26:07unmet need in the world of exosomes?
- 26:11I'm sure you know that exosomes are not approved.
- 26:13It's illegal to inject exosomes in the United States.
- 26:17I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it's illegal.
- 26:20Well, with Juva Sonic, you can fill the cartridge with exosomes
- 26:25and enhance topical absorption. So it solves a problem.
- 26:28And that's what we're about. You know, people talk about
- 26:31innovation as a concept or whatever.
- 26:34For me, innovation is actually a way of thinking, a way of
- 26:38approaching unmet needs and creating technologies that are
- 26:42transformative. So I think that what's going to
- 26:46wind up is, you know, every clinic in the country will have
- 26:49a Juiconic, right? And they'll be able to
- 26:52administer treatments all day long.
- 26:54And I think consumers, when they find out about this, are going
- 26:59to be running to have the treatment.
- 27:01I'm excited to have it because, yes, everything I do hurts,
- 27:05right? And, you know, I mean, I'm used
- 27:07to it. I've tried every device out
- 27:09there. All of them hurt, right?
- 27:10So it would be a pleasure to have some results without pain.
- 27:14That sounds exciting. So do you think that Juva Sonic
- 27:19will always be 1 device or do you have another one in the
- 27:23garage that you're currently working on?
- 27:25So, you know, we're only 120 days into the launch of Juva
- 27:29Sonic, so we're relentlessly focused on the training and
- 27:32education of this device, building out a sales force,
- 27:36working on our marketing material.
- 27:39In fact, you may think it's a little crazy.
- 27:41Some of my friends and colleagues have said this to me.
- 27:44On our website at juvasonic.com, on the resource tab, we share
- 27:50everything, our cell sheet, our brochures, our data, our videos,
- 27:55our logo, everything is available.
- 27:57Because I've learned at my age, and I'm older than you by almost
- 28:0110 years. You know, I'm in my 60s, early
- 28:0460's. The thing I've learned, Doctor
- 28:06Randy, is that the way you create change is by sharing, not
- 28:10hiding, hoarding and being insecure.
- 28:13So we share all the information on our website.
- 28:16Now, there will be another Juvisonic version at some point,
- 28:20but we're very relentlessly focused on the launch of this
- 28:23device. Great, great.
- 28:25So in the immediate future, you're focusing on the launch,
- 28:30you are intending to potentially get this into the hands of
- 28:35consumers, not only at the clinic level, but maybe for a
- 28:38home at home device. And then I'm assuming you know,
- 28:42some additional products from Juvasonic down the line.
- 28:45And I think you're going to take over, right?
- 28:47I think you're going to disrupt our industry and I'm excited to
- 28:51to see where that goes. So what do you say to those
- 28:55entrepreneurs out there when people say it's crazy, it can't
- 28:59be done or you'll never do it or micro needling owns the market,
- 29:03like I'm sure people said to you, don't even bother, right?
- 29:06And as an entrepreneur myself, a lot of people have said that to
- 29:09me. To me, it only motivates me to
- 29:12do it twice. And, you know, take names,
- 29:14right? So what do you say to the
- 29:16entrepreneurs out there that are questioning themselves?
- 29:19It's really an old paradigm around never giving up and
- 29:25finding solutions to problems. I tell my children all the time
- 29:29that there's a solution to every problem in that moment.
- 29:33My son or daughter, they may feel, my sons or daughter might
- 29:37feel that the problem is insurmountable, but there's
- 29:40always a solution. And we never gave up.
- 29:42Had I given up with ultrasound or iontophoresis or
- 29:46electroporation, we wouldn't have Juva Sonic today.
- 29:50And that's what I say is you have to have this fortitude and
- 29:53stay in the game long enough until you get a bit lucky.
- 29:56And obviously there's some luck involved in this thing too.
- 30:00You know, we work really hard. My wife is a sales and marketing
- 30:04person with a education background, but she's actually a
- 30:07bio hacker. She's in the lab as much as I
- 30:10am, and neither of us ever gave up.
- 30:13Well, Congrats to both of you. It's a great accomplishment.
- 30:16I can't wait to see it, can't wait to experience it.
- 30:19There's really not many treatments out there that I
- 30:21haven't tried. So very, very excited.
- 30:24And for the clinicians that want to get in touch with you, if you
- 30:29don't mind, tell us one more time how to reach out.
- 30:31As well As for consumers that want to locate clinics in their
- 30:35area that carry the Juiconic, what's the best way to get in
- 30:38touch? Yeah, we will be sharing the
- 30:40clinic soon. We don't have a find a clinic on
- 30:44our website today, but if you want to learn more about the
- 30:47technology and watch all these videos and see all the
- 30:51information that we've shared, the website isjuvasonic.com.
- 30:56We're slowly building a sales force to cover the United
- 30:59States, but we're in early days. So the best way is to contact me
- 31:04or my wife directly. You can contact us at the Hello
- 31:08at Juva Sonic on our website. You can purchase a device on our
- 31:12website if you're a healthcare provider, or you can reach out
- 31:16to me on LinkedIn and we'd be happy to put you in touch with a
- 31:19sales Rep or someone to support you and answer any questions
- 31:23that you have. OK, wonderful.
- 31:25And for the consumers out there, if they are looking for a
- 31:28clinic, what's the best way that they can do that for right now?
- 31:31I would say contact us on our website at the Hello app place,
- 31:35tell us where you live and as we grow, if we have a clinic in
- 31:39your area within driving distance, we'll certainly
- 31:41connect you with them and on social media, actually Doctor
- 31:44Randy, we are on Instagram talking about our collaborations
- 31:48with new clinics that come on board and the list is growing.
- 31:51In fact, there are clinics in Boca Raton.
- 31:54There are clinics in Florida and throughout much of the United
- 31:57States. So if.
- 31:59They're anywhere they'd be in Boca Raton, right?
- 32:02There's a lot of Med spas there. Every 10 feet there's another
- 32:06Med spa. So this is a great place to
- 32:08launch. Well, we're excited for you and
- 32:11excited to see where things go go next.
- 32:14So thank you so much for joining us today.
- 32:16And if you have a few minutes, I'd love you to stay for our
- 32:19speed round. I'm all in.
- 32:21OK, let's go. So I'm going to put out there a
- 32:26bunch of rapid fire questions and looking to get to know you a
- 32:29little better and what you're doing.
- 32:31And I think this will be great for everybody out there, OK?
- 32:34OK, let's do it. All right, here we go.
- 32:37Morning person or night owl? I'm now a morning person.
- 32:41I started as a night owl but I'm out.
- 32:43Definitely a morning person. Clean desk or chaos?
- 32:47Immaculately clean. You won't find anything anywhere
- 32:50perfectly clean. I might imagine that with an
- 32:53inventor, OK, quick decision or careful consideration.
- 32:57So you need a blend of both, but don't be afraid to make a
- 33:01decision. Don't be afraid.
- 33:03How often do you completely unplug?
- 33:06Not often enough. Amy and I are planning a
- 33:08vacation. It's been probably three years
- 33:11since we've had a vacation, and I work seven days a week.
- 33:15I work every day pretty much the same because for me it's really
- 33:18not work. Sending emails before 6:00 AM
- 33:22Yes or no? Sometimes, yes.
- 33:24Yeah, absolutely. Phone call or text?
- 33:28I love to pick up the phone. I surprise people all the time
- 33:31by calling them. The funny thing is people don't
- 33:34often answer, especially if they don't recognize the phone
- 33:37number. Oh yeah, Nobody wants to talk on
- 33:38the phone anymore, right? That's the whole new generation
- 33:41that's out there. If you ask people to make a
- 33:43phone call, they're like, isn't there any other way that I can
- 33:46do this besides a phone call? Office with music or total
- 33:50silence. We're very much music people
- 33:53throughout our home. We have Sonos literally
- 33:55everywhere on our property. But when I'm at my desk and
- 33:58working, silence. Same.
- 34:01Same, for some reason it messes up my Zen and I can't think
- 34:05straight when there's music playing or even ATV on in the
- 34:08background. OK, have you ever tried Botox on
- 34:11yourself? I've never had Botox.
- 34:14I've had a little bit of filler and PRP.
- 34:17Agree or disagree, most skin care is just marketing.
- 34:21So I would tend to disagree because I'm seeing some
- 34:24innovation in skin care and while there's lots of brands and
- 34:28there you have to have a big marketing budget, I totally get
- 34:30that. I'm seeing some innovation in
- 34:33companies that we both know. I'm a huge fan of skin care.
- 34:36I think it makes an enormous difference.
- 34:38Favorite subject in school, Science or math?
- 34:41Science. Biology.
- 34:43Do you thrive under pressure? True or false?
- 34:46I I can handle pressure and I perform well under pressure I
- 34:49would say. A scale of 1 to 10.
- 34:52How competitive are you? Ten, I would say in my pool,
- 34:57which is just 50 feet this way we have a basketball thing.
- 35:00I'm always taking my kids on and I'm incredibly competitive to
- 35:04the point that it annoys them. Probably, but.
- 35:06That's great though. That's why you're successful.
- 35:09OK, that's a great one. Do you regret more of what you
- 35:14said or what you haven't said? I tend to regret what I've said
- 35:18because I don't really hold back at times, and sometimes I might
- 35:23say a little too much and I can get occasionally reminded that
- 35:26maybe that wasn't the right thing.
- 35:29So I'm probably more likely regret something I've said,
- 35:33certainly not something I haven't said.
- 35:35OK, those of us that are outspoken, we're often
- 35:38questioning if we should have said something or not, right?
- 35:41So true red light therapy at home, yes or no?
- 35:45I'm a fan of red light therapy and I think it's still at its
- 35:48early stages. Believe it or not, I do too in
- 35:51and here. I do too.
- 35:54I know personally when I started using my red light therapy, my
- 35:57skin changed within one week. I think it's unbelievable the
- 36:01difference that it has. The medical grade one that I
- 36:03have, that is it's only three minutes a day.
- 36:06It's unbelievable. OK, Do you believe exosomes are
- 36:09the future? I think it's a little early to
- 36:13say, but the enthusiasm, excitement and potential is
- 36:18really generational meaning in my generation, this category of
- 36:23products have such tremendous potential, but it's still a
- 36:26little early to say. Have you ever googled your own
- 36:30name? I've come across my name, but
- 36:33not by Googling it, but by seeing other Sanjay Batras.
- 36:36And then I've looked them up just to see who they were.
- 36:39So I've searched Sanjay Batra through that, but I don't think
- 36:42I've ever put in Google Sanjay Batra.
- 36:46OK, on your laptop, how many tabs are open right now?
- 36:49Under 10 or over 50. Way under 10.
- 36:53OK, good for you. Mine's open at all times are do
- 36:59you always have air pods in yes or no?
- 37:02You know, as much as I love air pods in the gym, I can't wear
- 37:05them, so I never wear them. In fact, I still take my phone
- 37:08and hold it to my ear. I don't know why that's.
- 37:11OK, that's OK, we're your old school.
- 37:14How often do you check your competitors websites?
- 37:18Well, in the case of Juvasonic, I'm not sure that we have
- 37:21competitors. When I worked in PRP, I would
- 37:24say often enough, you know, Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 37:27What is the first app that you open in the morning when you
- 37:30look at your phone? So the first thing I do in the
- 37:33morning is I lean over and give my wife a hug.
- 37:36I realized it's better to lean to the right than lean to the
- 37:40left and pick up my phone on my night stand.
- 37:42But when I do open it, the first thing I do is just scan for
- 37:46texts and WhatsApp. Skin care fridge genius or
- 37:50gimmick? I think it's a bit of a gimmick,
- 37:52you know, especially if it involves something with protein.
- 37:55It's hard to keep protein around and alive and not denaturing.
- 37:59So kind of a gimmick. Is skin care part of your daily
- 38:03routine? I use skin care.
- 38:05I enjoy skin care. I probably need to use a little
- 38:08more sunscreen as the last step in my skin care routine, but I
- 38:12do use skin care. I use peptides.
- 38:15We have a an anti aging serum with growth factors and peptides
- 38:18that I love. Is medical grade a meaningful
- 38:21label in your opinion, yes or no?
- 38:24Pharmaceutical grade is definitely meaningful.
- 38:27Medical grade is a bit in a Gray area in my opinion.
- 38:31Skin care ingredient that you think is worth the hype?
- 38:34I'm a big fan of peptides. Peptides and growth factors.
- 38:38I think there's a new rejuvenation interest in
- 38:41peptides. So I, I love peptides, things
- 38:44that are regenerative, you know, that basically turn the clock
- 38:48back on skin aging. Yeah, agreed.
- 38:51And what is a skin care ingredient that you think is
- 38:54completely overrated? Well, there are a lot of things
- 38:57that are overrated. I don't want to maybe pick too
- 39:00hard, but I'll tell you in the setting of hair, the most
- 39:03overrated hype that's completely without basis is biotin.
- 39:08You see so much biotin, but the data on biotin basically shows
- 39:13unless you have a deficiency it does nothing for her.
- 39:17Yes, yes, and they're selling it in all shampoos and everything
- 39:22and it may not be doing a darn thing, right?
- 39:24So and then last but not least, do you think that most aesthetic
- 39:29devices actually deliver what they promised, Yes or no?
- 39:33I think many devices launch without the data, without the
- 39:37hard work, and without the reps in the gym, so to speak, like we
- 39:41did with Juva Sonic. I do.
- 39:43I wouldn't launch it until I knew it worked, so I can go to
- 39:46bed at night. Doctor Randy, with a very clear
- 39:49conscience, knowing that it works.
- 39:51There's no better satisfaction than that.
- 39:54Well, Doctor Sanjay, it has been amazing to have you on the show.
- 39:58I've learned so much. I think the clinics out there,
- 40:02the patients out there. Everybody wants to know about
- 40:04what's going on, so this has been such a wonderful episode
- 40:08and I hope that you'll come back in about 6 months and tell us
- 40:13what's happened with Juva Sonic and share with us the new
- 40:16results and the hundreds, if not thousands of clinics that you're
- 40:20in by then. Thank you so much for your time,
- 40:23for the great questions. And you know, you've had some
- 40:26Titans on this show, so that I have me, it's really quite
- 40:29humbling. I really appreciate it.
- 40:31It's been an absolute pleasure. Thank you so much and for all
- 40:35the listeners. We look forward to seeing you
- 40:37soon. Doctor Randy Boyett holds a PhD
