- Greg: Hey, what's up guys? Welcome to the Friday, April 24th, 2026 edition of Beliefs, Ballots and Bets. I am your host, Greg Miller. Coming off a nice three and 0 day yesterday, two and one the day before that, and I'm not a math major, but I think that's five and one in the last two days and we won't ever complain about that. But those of you that know me well and those of you that are following this show and that may only be three or four of you, you probably have figured out now that spitting winners is fun and having a little sports wagering from time to time can be entertaining, but That is definitely not what this show is about. That is definitely not why I get on here and do this every day. So let's do what's really important. Let's get into the word of God. The scripture of the day is chapter, chapter 14 in the book of John, verse 27. He tells us peace. leave with you my peace. I give you, I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. I am far from a biblical scholar or master theologian, but I am pretty sure that that do not be afraid is one of the most used verses in the entire Bible. And I think that is by design. think that is that is really God's way of saying that his peace should remove any and all fears that we have when we when we anchor ourselves in the peace that comes from him. Very little can really disturb us or disrupt us. It's not always easy and I think we have to be careful and sometimes I'm guilty of finding so much peace and knowing that everything's in his hands and he's in ultimate control. Sometimes I come across very apathetic, like I just don't care about anything, which is far from the truth. I care greatly about many things, but I just realized that more often than not, the limitations that I possess are far, far greater than what he can get done with no limitations. So I turn everything over to him. I say a prayer when something feels out of control and I let him have it. And then once I try to let him have it, I try to do my best not to try to take it back from him. Think about that sometimes that, you there have been times that I have prayed about something. And when you pray about something, you are going to him for that sense of peace. And then he'll give it to you. And then sometimes you'll start to think about, well, maybe I should do this or maybe I should do that. Why in the world would you take something back away from the most powerful being ever and try to do it yourself? Find the peace in him and you will make better decisions and you will ultimately be able to navigate this crazy world we live in. We've got our five practical applications. We're gonna try to blast through these real quick. The first one is what I call a truth checklist. And that's when you get in a moment is try to really focus on and isolate a couple of real key things. First, in that situation, what is your objective? What are you trying to? get done, what is the desired outcome for you? And then the second one is state the absolute facts in this situation. Not feelings, not emotions, not conjecture, not narrative. What are the facts in this situation and how do they apply to what your ultimate objective is? And then finally, after you have identified your objective and identified what the facts are, pick one realistic next step. and try to move in that direction. Now, it sounds simple, but in the moments where you're dealing with something, it takes some effort and some coordination to try to get your brain to slow down and think this way. But if you can do it, it will help. The next thing I do sometimes, I call it kind of my 60 second sensory anchor. This is sometimes when I, if I know I'm walking into a stressful situation or if I know I'm about to have to have an intense conversation, I will take a second and just try to... anchor myself by looking around me and noticing, you know, what do I see? What do I hear? What do I feel? What do I smell? And these types of things will get me to focus on more tangible certain things. So I'm, I'm anchored in that truth and in that reality. And that clears my mind a little bit to help me go ahead and get into those, those needed conversations. ⁓ the other one is I try to have kind of a, a little two minute if then rule. And that's where you can go into certain situations and you can predict some of the possible ways things might go a little sideways or might get off track. And so what I try to do is I try to identify a couple of those and put myself in a position to say, if this happens, then I'm going to do this. And it's just, keeps you from getting caught off guard. But for me, it's usually, if I get a certain reaction or a certain response, I'm going to make myself slow the conversation down and try to regroup. And that's usually something that's, that's very beneficial for me. ⁓ and it's something I would highly recommend. ⁓ the other side, part of that is, and this is the fourth point of the day, sometimes you can't get out of that. Sometimes you, you can't, you can't just take that if, then rule. Sometimes things would just catch you off guard and you're not sure what to do. You don't owe anybody an answer in the moment. Give yourself a couple of scripts to try to get out of those, those disrupting situations and those situations that just take all of the peace out of you. Things like, know, hey, I can't give this my full attention right now. I'll get back to you. Can we schedule 20 minutes later to talk about this? Or I hear you, let me think about it. There's all kind of phrases you can use to just try to buy yourself a little bit of time because at the end of day, if you are in a situation and your peace has been disrupted, you're not likely to be making good decisions. And then the fifth one of the day is to is more of a ⁓ after after disruption kind of thing. It's it's just a micro reset routine to try to allow yourself in any case where you feel like you know something has gone sideways, something has disrupted your piece. Give yourself three minutes, five minutes, whatever it may be to just create a trigger point whether it's you take a quick little five minute walk or march in place for 60 seconds or go get a glass of water. some sort of little mental trigger after a stressful and disrupting moment to help your body learn to reset and get back to that center of peace so that you can focus on getting through the rest of your day and the rest of your life. All let's get to the plays for the day. Like we said, things have been pretty good on that front and I don't want to complain and don't want to jinx this, but another three in a day surely wouldn't suck. Plays today, got a, seems to be a pattern here. We end up with two baseball plays and a basketball play, but. I said five and one in the last two days. So we're not going to complain and we're not going to check the system on that. Give me Cleveland at Toronto. Give me Toronto plus the one 10. That's a baseball play. The other baseball players, Colorado at New York. Give me that one over seven and a half in the basketball play. Give me the LA Lakers and the Houston Rockets over two ⁓ six and a half. ⁓ these two gate teams have kept things on the defensive front pretty tight and there hadn't been a lot of scoring, but I think they'll open it up a little bit tonight. I think Katie, you'll get back into form. Give me the over 206 and that so 206 and a half. to recap the plays Cleveland Guardians at the Toronto Blue Jays. Give me the Blue Jays plus 110 Colorado Rockies at the New York Mets. We're going over the seven and a half and then the Lakers at the Houston Rockets. We're going over 206 and a half. ⁓ Let's let's hope to have another good day. Let's let's cash some more tickets. That's always fun. But at end of the day, let's remember to to find our piece, but let's also remember that having that piece. and knowing that ultimately everything's in God's hands doesn't remove our obligation to do the things we're called to do. Don't use your peace in the Lord as an excuse to just say, well, Lord's got it under control. I ain't got to worry about nothing. I ain't got to do nothing. That's not what the Bible calls us to do. And that's certainly not what this scripture is telling you to do. We're still called to do the right thing. We're still called to adhere to his will as much as we possibly can and repent like crazy when we can't. So that's the episode for the day. Let's find your peace. I'm gonna find mine and I'm gonna roll into this weekend, hopefully three and ⁓ with some more plays. All right guys, as always, get in your Bibles, say your prayers, love each other and tell the truth. God bless.
