Latest / Guy Football Focus with Guy Haberman / Inside The 49ers Trip to Australia and Why Kyle Shanahan Is Feeling Confident
Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: What's up, guys?
- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: Guy here in Melbourne, Australia, flew in with the team a few days ago.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: Niners had their first practice on Monday, they'll practice Tuesday, they'll practice Wednesday, they'll walk through Thursday, and we'll play Friday morning at 10.30 AM, which they don't seem to be too concerned about.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: I thought there was a major headline, me, a secret, not a secret given away, but something revealed today by Kyle Shanahan that I think says a lot.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you about that in a second.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: I am going to talk about Melbourne a little bit as a city as a place because I have loved it.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: If you were to, I think if you said to somebody design a place and put a stadium there, people will a lot of people would say, like, reallyville, which I've experienced and is amazing, but it might be Melbourne.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: It might be Melbourne.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'm saying Melbourne the way they say Melbourne.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: uh... so a few little notes from practice that i want to share some of my experiences here in melvin how it relates to the teams i did fly with the team so uh... there were some things from the plane that uh... the planet self i talked about the plane a little bit the a three eighty it's a big double decker from uh... this is a quantist plane uh... and i think these are going to go out of service in a few years and there's something very i think very interesting about what i want to talk about so
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'll stop teasing stuff, I just start getting into stuff.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: But we haven't talked in a while, so there's a lot to talk about in my pedal on a coffee.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of flat whites and long blacks.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, sometimes you start the day with a flat white, that's milk, and then you transition away from, once you're on your third of the day, you transition away from the dairy, and you just do the long black, which is basically an Americano, but in the exact right size cup.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, here's the thing that I, from the Niners Practice, and then we'll back fill, I just want to start with the football meat and then we'll back fill a little bit with some of the color.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Shanahan is the most himself today that he has been the entire training camp.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the first time we saw him, he was several, you know, a few weeks post accident and still it appeared dealing with, you know, concussion stuff.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: He'd talked a few times since then.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: I thought today really had for the first time felt like, you know, it was the regular kind of fun Kyle Shanahan.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: Now, he's not always, you know, he's not always in fun mood or mode, but you know, maybe partly the international media.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's interesting because the Rams aren't here.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: And so basically the Niners are the ones left to represent.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: which I don't think is a problem for them.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think Kyle kind of enjoyed it.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think today my sense of him there's a lot of local media when I say local, I mean neither's media but a lot of local Melbourne Victorians.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: And he rose to the occasion, which didn't really take much.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty easy for him.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it was significant because I think he now having been here for a few days believes in their tactic, right?
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: The nighters and the ramps taking very different tactics.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: The ramps are flying in the day before, the nighters flew in a week before and it's clear that the nighters did that not because Kyle Shanahan wanted to do it that way, but because he was presented with a bunch of research and said, okay, we'll do it the research way.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: But in the back of his mind, I'm sure he's thinking like this better work and whoever loses this game is going to have a miserable flight back, but I think it's potentially more miserable for the 49ers because they want all that on being here a week.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: The Rams are coming that day before, kind of like whatever, and so if you have whatever attitude and then you lose, you're like whatever, but that's not the Niners approach.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: And so,
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: What I felt today was a guy, Kyle Shannon, who made winning may lose, but I think believes in their tactic.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I saw today.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: A guy who has talked to his players, who I'm sure was wiped out on like I like everybody.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: You land on Friday morning and you just try to stay up to 8pm and it's a battle and you kind of wake up at 2 and you go back to sleep at 230 and like your sleep's all messed up.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: bigger than the sleep here's the one thing I've talked to multiple people bigger than the sleep hydration also huge there was like everyone's describing this like for the first you just like and I'm experiencing this I hate to use the word brain fog because you're function fine it's not that
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: day-to-day but I think for the guys who really have to for the quarterbacks who really have to process I think that's I bet it'd be really hard like I think that'll be really interesting for Matthew Stafford the day after now the ramps thing is like we're gonna We are not gonna we're gonna beat the the tornado like We are gonna beat it out of town.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna land and take off before our jet lag even catches up with us
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: But it's not just about jet lag and sleep, it's about hydration.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: If the Rams fly on the same plane, the A380, the 49ers had, they're going to have to be very proactive about hydration.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure they will be anyway.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: This plane in particular, I've flown many international flights.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: But I've flown many international flights.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: as I have on this plane, I did some research on it, and I couldn't find anything about cabin pressurization, but one of the flight attendants, like, yeah, this plane doesn't, I don't know if it's because it's old, because these planes are old, or because it's large, but basically they were not surprised that I felt under-hydrated, even though I was hydrating.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: Now, from what I, some of the research I found is hard to tell also, there was a suggestion that because the plane so large, it's hard to keep the humidity up, that it gets really dry in that plane, but the point is, it was really dry in that plane.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: And if the rams are on the same plane, which I got to think the rams are going to be on the same plane, plane, the rams on the same plane, then maybe they do it that same issue.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so that's that's one thing, but but I think Kyle Shannon might take away today was Kyle Shannon believed they're doing it the right way and thus now is at ease or at least is at ease as he can be in the reason is because Christian McCaffrey has said to him, I feel good like I yeah, I feel good and Fred Warner said, yeah, mate, I feel good and Mike I'm trying to think of somebody who's I like I like when an A is an R
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: Fred Warner, no, or I love when they say her, but the language is amazing.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: But I also think, I just put myself in his shoes.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that I'm just putting yourself in his shoes.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: You had a concussion.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: And it was way worse than you'd be realizing concussions.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: It can be.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be pretty concerned about the flight.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like how am I going to feel?
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: Am I going to be okay?
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I just saw guy like like I said confident I I saw Kyle Shanahan like real Kyle Shanahan swag For the first time in this training camp
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I shouldn't say for the first time I should say it's the most I've seen and I think he was he had to have been so off put by this trip and uneasy about this trip and I'm sure it was like are we doing it the right way or not and like I said when I lose I think he he seemed to be like I had to believe they're doing it the right way maybe they can be maybe they can be rams are good team But I think he seemed like a guy that and that I thought was important that I
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a great trip, but what do I miss?
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: I miss my Volvo XC90 from Volvo Car's Marin.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to leave the baby.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard, nine and a half months.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: He misses that very much, but I know he's safe.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: My wife's friend in town with her daughter, driving them around town, they're going to the pool, they're hanging out, they're having a great weekend.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: Great labor to you again.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: and hope you're enjoying that.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: I know they're enjoying it, and they're having a grand time cruising around, having a great weekend in the Volvo XC-98 from Volvo Carsmarin, so thanks to Matt Gordon and his team for sponsoring the show this football season and for putting me in my family in a great car.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: One thing I do wonder about, isn't a vantage rams.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think it is an advantage rams.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think another reason for the nighters to be out here early, hopefully is that their practice doesn't get disrupted.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just the quarterbacks that have to battle.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: And again, I hate using this phrase because it becomes such a popular phrase.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: Brain fog.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's probably a gummy for that.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: But it's the defense and the 49ers are playing a brand new defense.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's not new to Matthew Stafford.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: He's other people run this defense or versions of it.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly, Rahim is not new to Matthew Stafford.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: But it's new to the 49ers.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think you have to brace yourself for some growing pains when everyone's playing a defense for the first time.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: Are they all going to be on the same page?
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Fred Warner, Fred, thankfully Fred came back from the injury before the season was done from a practicing standpoint.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: He talked about that today.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so he hit the ground running when this training camp started, which is really important because he wears the green dot and his communication with Raheem and then his communication with everybody else on the field is so critical.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: Remember it was a problem with Steve Wilkes, you know, the quarterback, all the different Niners quarterbacks over the years, they get Calshanna hand.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Fred Warner doesn't get the same defensive coordinator for three years in a row.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes for not two years in a row.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: And so there's a lot of change that goes on for him as the guy with the communication and that had set.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: And so there is always a lot of pressure on Fred Warner's position, but I think it's particularly big this week because of the Rams familiarity, Sean McVase familiarity, Matthew Stafford's familiarity.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's a lack of familiarity with their own defense.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: So you just got to think that is as vantage ramps and the 49ers are going to have to find a way to overcome it, and hopefully they can, you know, you got to score, you got to get them at your staffer.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: If they can make some plays on defense early that allow them to kind of play for you.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: I know the DBs have talked about like, oh, we're playing free, we're playing free.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that's true.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: I need to see it.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: I need to see it.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: You can't have Devante on those dudes.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: Puka.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: run and free.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: Good to see Jacob Cowling.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know, the punk return game is so critical, one of the local media members asked a question today of Chris McAfrey.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I couldn't tell, I think it might have just been a general question, but I don't know, because he mentioned the wind, is like, you know, the wind.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: And well, the Niners don't get to practice inside the MCG.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: They're practicing inside something called Amy Field, which is right by this huge tennis complex rod-laver core at the Australian Open.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's all right there.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, is there going to be wind?
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: How windy is it going to be today?
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: I got really windy.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: It rained a little bit early.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: The sun came out.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: We experienced like three seasons in one day.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: And we always talk about it in the NCAA tournament because the arenas are massive.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: They play in football stadiums.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: How's your depth perception shooting early in a game?
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: Well, this is a football field on a massive oval.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: Now, most of the extra space, I have access to photo.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: I have seen the inside.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: You're not supposed to see the inside yet, but I have seen the inside.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a ton of space on the sides, which you don't think matters as much.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: The best seats I think in the stadium, if your lower are gonna be on the corners or in the end zone, because that's your closer to the field.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: For the people on the sides, they're gonna be way,
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: far away including us in our in our radio broadcast with a shenham calling him on a radio this week are going to be really far away um so uh what you know what's going to be like from a punt return standpoint is what I'm getting at.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: Do you know what was back there in practice taking some punts Brandon Codderington was back there and Jacob Cowan thankfully for the 49ers was back there
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, the countering to inciting is basically like you can't get them on the 53 off the practice button under the 46-meter roster during the game, but it protects you during the week if counting pops and injury because I think they, they want somebody they can trust and Jordan Watkins just has not looked like that guy.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: So, interesting, Debo's back there, you know, we saw in the preseason twice, like fair catch it.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: and that'll be good enough, but just something to be aware of, because it could be a critical situation at the Niners end up.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: Now, a bunch of them did go to the footy game.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you what, guys.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't watched some AFL, some Australian AFL, Australian Football League, if you've not watched them, Aussie Rules,
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: uh, a footy.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: I recommend going on YouTube.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: It is awesome.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't go the night.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: We got here.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: I was so tired.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: And still to be honest, like, the Kyle and those guys said they feel a hundred percent today.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not there yet.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: I get really tired in the afternoon in the evening, headache.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: Probably I've only had four coffees today.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: Part of the problem I bought is like, why do you cut me off for double espresso is really?
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: But the stadium looked incredible and the sport is really cool.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty easy to pick up quickly and it's so fast that they move.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: If those of you watching on YouTube, if you're listening, you're not going to see, but if those of you watching YouTube, I'll also have some videos of the area I'm putting in.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: The amazing thing about the Melbourne Melbourne.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: cricket ground, the stadium is there's no parking lots.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: I talked to one of the the person who runs the grounds and they said they have about 600 parking spots.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: The state is 100,000 people, they have 600 parking spots, give or take.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: which gives you an idea of where the people are coming from, public transit.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: The tram system is very easy here.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: The train system is, I've not been on the train, but I'm told it's easy, but the tram is very easy.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: You don't need like a card of any, just tap your own card, although it's free in the vicinity of the area.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: The vicinity of the area.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: See, I'm telling you, I'm mentally not, unsincerely.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm not fully there.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'll let these guys say there.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: I've walked all over.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: I've done, I haven't checked, but I would say in the range of 15 miles of walking, because I had one day that was like seven and a half, eight.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: The amount of green space in the city is off the charts.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's gorgeous.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: The food is really, I didn't know what to expect from the food.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: From a food standpoint, I would say it's just like a very, it's like your favorite cities,
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's the same, it's a tonne Asian fusion, a tonne of Italian, there's just a lot of really good food.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: So, and they're very proud of their coffee and it's, here's the thing about their coffee.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: They give you the right size.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: I love Americano's.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I do like a lot of days in the US, but the problem is I don't need, I don't need 12 ounces because that's just way too much milk, but when you make it like a, I don't know if it's like a six or an eight ounce cup, and someone's like a quartado, a quartado actually, a touch small.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: with not enough cream, not enough milk.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: The flat whites they make here are the right size.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: They call them a long black, which is like an Americano, but in a smaller cup, it's the right size.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's the gold-y-lock size, so they're nailing that.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: Um, they'll say something called a magic, which is like a shorter, I think it's, I don't know, I'm not a massive espresso guy.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: Just drink a lot of it.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's, we're straight out.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's, it's a shorter pull or something.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: So it's stronger with a little bit of cream.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's smaller than the other things, but it's stronger.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: But the green space is amazing.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: The green space that surrounds the stadium stadiums, the complex, the tennis complex is just incredible.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's a wonderful, wonderful.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: Wonderful city that I never would have come to.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: I never would have been like Yeah, let me get on a fifth let me do that because here's the thing about our flight with the team We each had the the players Kyle Chan explained The best seats went to the biggest players like the starters the biggest players and then some seniority after that Well, it was left over.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think he said 14 or 18 seats
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: But everybody in traveling party had their own row, so the plane is like three by four by three right across on the lower level So three seats four seats three seats across everybody got their own row
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: So you could lay out the arms on the rows, they kind of would fall.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: So like I'm laying lengthwise, and it would keep falling on me.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: But I still knocked out for, I don't know, six hours, I think I slept, just laid out in the middle row.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then a few more hours, you know, just kind of sitting up.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, where was I going with that?
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: I went in my head, I just went from green space back to the plane, I don't know, but the green space, oh yeah, I was the vacation, like what I've picked it, I know, I never would have picked it and yet I'm here to like this place is really great, they got a beautiful river, we're not far from a bay.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of my favorite cities I've ever been to without question.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like I really do love it here.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think so on the first day we went to this practice facility, which if you're watching on YouTube, you saw some of the video, Amy, A.A.M.I.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: And there were a bunch of kids there, like middle school age kids, then afterwards there was a special Olympics event.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I came away from, and the players just, they did what they call activation.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: They just went out and like stretched and walked away.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't not even a print.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: None of the football coaches were out there.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I came away from that and my thought was like, I hope that these guys,
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: are able to, because it is challenging, this is your job, you got to work, you got to play it's week one.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I would understand any resistance to it.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: But my overarching thought was like, I hope that these guys can get to a point where they can appreciate how special it is for other people to experience this.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: Which is, when you are a professional football player or are you doing anything professionally when it's your time to perform?
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: It sounds good to say I hope you guys have fun and we put on a good show for you But Would you really thinking is the other thing you say when it's like I'm focused on my job on this play I'm not thinking about whether or not you know like oh this game was six to nothing We won.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but I'm sorry.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: There were no touchdowns for everybody, right?
- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's not what you're thinking you're thinking we won and I didn't my job
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: So I get that, but that was my thought that day.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I hope these guys feel get the satisfaction of doing something so unique and it is unique.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: It is special and one day, it'll be happy they did it, I hope.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and which, by the way, Mike Evans, somebody asked Mike Evans today, are you happy to be here basically?
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: And he was like, you know, when I was younger, I would have said, no, I didn't want to do this.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm actually finding the, yeah, like this is cool.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: We're the first guys to play on Australia.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: And again, I do think it's a little unique that they're the only team here.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: And so for them, it's like,
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we'll be the ones that connect, you know, not that they're going out doing a bunch of stuff, but I did see we only got, we talked to four players today, Mike, three players.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: Evan's Fred and Christian, who are guys who would say the right thing anyway, but like, especially McCaffrey, I thought like, oh, I think he's actually, I think he's, I think.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: yeah i think he's enjoying it uh... and i think part of that is that they feel good today they feel good i think they're happy they're like if the game has to put i think they they're they are feeling like if i'm reading their minds they're happier they're here than having not made the flight it
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: And the other thing you don't know, because everyone says the flight back is worse, what kind of told is doing that flight twice in like a 30s, you know, a 36 hour period due to you.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like does that do the Rams get hit harder on the way back because they just boom boom, maybe.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: People are really excited here.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like everywhere you go, I walk to the stadium today from the hotel with Tim Ryan for practice.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: And T-Rock is, you know, he, nine or hat, nine or hoodie, and it ran on us a little bit.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: But we're walking and some older gentlemen's walking in his neighborhood and he just sees Tim and then I was here and he tells him good luck and I like everyone's talking like I'm in the Uber today to go to a Lebanese bakery but it closed it for I've been walking everywhere but this place was in the close
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: before, and I was not going to get there in time, and I wanted my diced lamb and onion pizza that I first ate in Turkey, and then I've come to know it as an Armenian dish, but it's Lebanese restaurant, it's just so good.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm in the Uber, and I'm like, hey, turn the radio up, and what are the two DJs talking about?
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: They're talking about the game.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: Right, there's nine or stuff.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: Spray painted everywhere, not spray, but there's not a stuff everywhere including in some of their the street where there's a bunch of Tagging and spray paint murals not kind of like so It is the biggest thing happened the fact that this game everyone's talking about the game the game sold out
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: It was cool.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: It was even cool being around all the local media today and they're a lot not all of them But some of them a lot of them experiencing this for the first time.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: So people are excited Not loving that YouTube TV has done a good job getting around my VPN Because watching college football this weekend with a rough.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: I was so excited for college football
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm happy that Peacock doesn't get around that the VPN is good enough to get me Peacock.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I could watch Washington, Washington, state on the treadmill at six a.m. this morning.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: I said it on the treadmill.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: Did get to an orange there.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: They have one orange there in all of Australia got there.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: So that felt good.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure there's things I'm I'm forgetting that I want to talk about Sturbling I'm very excited about day John Sturbling's debut.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: Here's a trivia question for you Which 49ers player?
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: Spent the most games in franchise history wearing number seven.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: Day of John Strublin's wearing number seven.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought, God, who has worn number seven for the most games in 49ers history?
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you who's second, Colin Kaepernick, but he's not first, the player in 49ers history.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: Who's played the most games wearing the number seven is,
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: very famous as a player before he became a pro, extremely famous as a coach after his playing days are done.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: Least famous in those three things for his NFL career, Steve Spurrier played the most games in the number seven in 49ers history.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: How about that trivia question?
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully it'll be day-to-day, John Strittling.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: Although,
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it will be I think he's changed his number next year 7.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know man Maybe he's not because he got to buy out the jerseys and that's weird 11 but the Marcus Robinson took that which by the way I don't know if he was asking about it.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: I could swear that he has an 11 tattooed some more unlike his lower leg
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: So it is interesting to see a 11 out there running around he looks the Marcus Robinson looks so much better in 11 Then in five he looks like a totally he looked he was a good player last year.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he stepped up on song on song song hero He looks way better in 11 That was a great move All right This is your boy
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: signing off for now from Australia where we'll be on the air on the Friday morning here on radio at the 10 30 AM local before that we're supposed to interview Roger Goodell actually so we'll do that I think and this won't be the last I'll do another pod here soon so we'll talk again but
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: I've had many of you, by the way, do want to say this.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: Reach out.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: I've got messages, DMs, and I don't think I've replied to any of them.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: I apologize.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: With like a Melbourne recommendations, that sort of thing, and my communication has been, has been poor.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's been poor.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not even making excuses.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's been poor.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not saying it's going to get better before this trip is over.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: I did eat kangaroo made this morning, they had a special, it was like an egg on a toasted the food here has been amazing, you probably saw I think Nick Wagner tweeted it, but it's true.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_00]: Then I just flew the chef out from the hotel where we're staying and they brought their chef and crew out here and the food has been.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: Phenomenal.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of the head of special, which was a little bit of bread with some egg and some spinach and some roasted tomatoes and a kangaroo meat.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why I got it.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like the time I had gator with Fred Belitton, a cough junior in Bozier, Louisiana.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: And glad I did.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: Glad I had the rou.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't feel good about it.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: They're so cute.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: The meat was, I mean, they did a great job this chef, the cooks, I, for me, you know, just in the same like Venison, like a little gamey, not too gamey, not chewy, but just, I'll stick to my sticks.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, on that note, I'll be at a great hat or having, I'll have to have Kyle Shannon talked about today, like he's living in the future and everyone else is living in the past, you guys are in the past, I'm in the future.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: So you might still be having, yeah, I hope you're having a good Labor Day.
