- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to another episode of Learn Telugu with Fexingo. Luna: Hey Lucas, happy to be here. You know, after all those sweet shops and fruit shops, I'm really craving something warm. Lucas: Oh, I think I know what you mean. A nice cup of chai would hit the spot. Luna: Exactly. And I've been wanting to learn how to order tea in Telugu. We did coffee at the cafe, but tea is a whole different thing. Lucas: Absolutely. Tea stalls are everywhere in Telugu-speaking regions, and they have their own vibe. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Telugu, you might enjoy today's little trip to a tea stall. Luna: Yeah, this is going to be fun. And since we keep this podcast ad-free, if you'd like to support that, you can find us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It really helps us keep going. Lucas: That's right. No ads, just good Telugu lessons. So, Luna, ready to order your chai? Luna: Ready. Let's start with the basics. How do I say 'I want tea'? Lucas: Simple. నాకు టీ కావాలి. నాకు టీ కావాలి. Luna: నాకు టీ కావాలి. That's not too hard. But wait, what does each word mean? Lucas: నాకు means 'to me' or 'for me', టీ is 'tea', and కావాలి means 'need' or 'want'. So literally, 'to me tea needed'. Luna: Okay, so నాకు టీ కావాలి. I want tea. Got it. Lucas: Perfect. Now, when you're at the stall, you can also say ఒక టీ ఇవ్వండి. That means 'give me one tea'. Luna: ఒక టీ ఇవ్వండి. So ఒక is 'one' and ఇవ్వండి is 'give'. Lucas: Right. Let's practice that. ఒక టీ ఇవ్వండి. Luna: ఒక టీ ఇవ్వండి. That feels natural. Lucas: Good. Now, what if you want your tea strong? You say కాస్త బలంగా ఉండాలి. Luna: కాస్త బలంగా ఉండాలి. That's a mouthful. What does it mean? Lucas: కాస్త means 'a little', బలంగా means 'strong', and ఉండాలి means 'it should be'. So 'it should be a little strong'. Luna: కాస్త బలంగా ఉండాలి. I like my tea strong, so I'll use that. Lucas: And after you get your tea, you might want to ask the price. That's ఇది ఎంత? Luna: ఇది ఎంత? Is that the same 'how much' we learned before? Lucas: Yes, exactly. ఇది means 'this' and ఎంత means 'how much'. So 'this how much'. Luna: ఇది ఎంత? Simple. Lucas: Now, once you taste it, you might want to say చాలా బాగుంది. That's 'very good'. Luna: చాలా బాగుంది. We used that at the sweet shop. Lucas: You remember. So let's put it all together. Picture yourself at a tea stall. Luna: Okay, I'm there. I walk up and say నాకు టీ కావాలి. Lucas: The vendor might ask 'what kind?' You say ఒక టీ ఇవ్వండి. Luna: And then I add కాస్త బలంగా ఉండాలి. Lucas: He makes it, hands it to you. You ask ఇది ఎంత? Luna: He says the price, I pay, and I sip. చాలా బాగుంది. Lucas: That's a perfect little exchange. Let's do a quick review of all the phrases. Luna: Great. Repeat after me. Lucas: నాకు టీ కావాలి Luna: నాకు టీ కావాలి Lucas: ఒక టీ ఇవ్వండి Luna: ఒక టీ ఇవ్వండి Lucas: కాస్త బలంగా ఉండాలి Luna: కాస్త బలంగా ఉండాలి Lucas: ఇది ఎంత? Luna: ఇది ఎంత? Lucas: చాలా బాగుంది Luna: చాలా బాగుంది Lucas: You did great. Now let's hear them in context one more time. Suppose you're at a tea stall in the evening. Luna: I'd say నాకు టీ కావాలి. ఒక టీ ఇవ్వండి. కాస్త బలంగా ఉండాలి. Lucas: Perfect. And if you want to ask about the price, just say ఇది ఎంత? Luna: ఇది ఎంత? And after tasting, చాలా బాగుంది. Lucas: There you go. Now you're ready for a tea stall conversation. Luna: I feel ready. This was a nice little episode. I love the chai theme. Lucas: Me too.
