- 0:00For one last time, John chapter one verse number six, there was
- 0:07a man sent from God whose name was John.
- 0:14Now I told you weeks ago that we would not always cover one verse
- 0:22a week or one phrase of one verse a week, forever, only for
- 0:32a while. And so Lord willing, this is the
- 0:38last week we will be on John one verse #6 it's an important verse
- 0:48because you need to know the kind of man that God sent, What
- 0:52kind of man was John the Baptist?
- 0:55And so we spent a couple of weeks describing to you this
- 0:58man, because after all, if he's the greatest man ever born of a
- 1:03woman, that means he was greater than King David, greater than
- 1:08Moses, greater than Elijah, greater than Elijah, greater
- 1:15than Jeremiah, greater than Isaiah, and the list goes on and
- 1:20on. So if he's the greatest man ever
- 1:23born of a woman, then we need to understand how great he really
- 1:28was and why the Bible characterizes him as such.
- 1:33But remember, it's the Lord who said that about John.
- 1:36Well, if that's the case, what does greatness look like?
- 1:41And so in order to understand biblical greatness, you need to
- 1:45understand John the Baptist. To understand true manhood, you
- 1:52need to understand John the Baptist, because this was the
- 1:56greatest man ever born of a woman.
- 1:58So we spent a couple of weeks looking at this man.
- 2:02There was a man, not just any man.
- 2:06He was an extraordinary man. And this man was sent from God.
- 2:15And so the last couple of weeks we've talked to you about how it
- 2:19is John was sent from God because there are similar
- 2:25instances in terms of how God sends us, because John, the
- 2:32greatest man ever born of a woman, yet the least in the
- 2:35Kingdom of heaven, are greater than John.
- 2:39So if that's the case, how is it that God sent John?
- 2:45To help us understand how God sends you and me?
- 2:52And so we told you he was sent personally.
- 2:55Luke 3 verse #4 the word of the Lord came to John.
- 3:01I'm sorry. Luke 3 verse #2 The word of the
- 3:03Lord came to John. God spoke to John, and so God
- 3:09sent him personally. He was waiting for God to send
- 3:14him, and He was sent personally by the true and living God.
- 3:22And then we said he was sent privately because he was in the
- 3:25wilderness. Luke 3 verse #2 Again, John was
- 3:30in the wilderness when the word of the Lord came to him.
- 3:34How long was he there? We do not know.
- 3:36The Bible does not tell us. But most people believe that at
- 3:41the age of 20, when he was to enter the priesthood because he
- 3:44was the son of a priest, that that would be the time he
- 3:46entered the wilderness. That was the case.
- 3:49He would have been there for 10 years, all the while communing
- 3:54with his God, reading Old Testament manuscripts about how
- 4:00God had prepared a forerunner to come before the Messiah.
- 4:06He would get to know his God so that he would be ready to
- 4:10present his God to people who needed to follow him.
- 4:16So we said that this man sent from God was sent personally.
- 4:21He was sent privately in the 30. He was sent prophetically
- 4:26because he could read Malachi 3 verse #1 he could read Isaiah 40
- 4:30verse #3 that all talked about this, this forerunner, this one
- 4:34that would come, this messenger that would come before the
- 4:38Messiah. And so he began to understand
- 4:42that everything about his life was prophesied, which would only
- 4:46fuel his his energy, which would only mobilize his, his desires
- 4:55to, to serve as God because he saw himself as a fulfillment of
- 4:59prophecy. And so he was sent
- 5:03prophetically. And then we said last week he
- 5:07was also sent providentially, providentially, it was in the
- 5:13Providence of God for him to be on the scene at the time he came
- 5:19on the scene. The Bible says in Galatians 4
- 5:22that in the fullness of time, God sent forth his Son born of a
- 5:25woman, born under the law, that he might redeem those who were
- 5:27under the law. So if there was a specific time
- 5:30politically and spiritually and economically and socially at the
- 5:35Messiah would come, then there had to be a specific time for
- 5:38their forerunner to come, because He would pave the way
- 5:42for the arrival of the Messiah. But all in the province of God.
- 5:48God had designed Zacharias and Elizabeth, a priest, his wife,
- 5:58and they were barren for many, many years.
- 6:03And it just so happened that Zacharias was in the temple,
- 6:07providentially performing his precinct duties when the Angel
- 6:12Gabriel showed up and told him that his wife was going to have
- 6:15a son. Just a great testimony to the
- 6:19Providence of God. And he would come at the right
- 6:22time and providentially he would be cared for all throughout the
- 6:26wilderness. God would take care of John the
- 6:29Baptist. He'd prepare John the Baptist to
- 6:31be the kind of man he needed to be.
- 6:34So there was a man, not just any man, but an extraordinary kind
- 6:40of man, the last Old Testament prophet, the first New Testament
- 6:45preacher. And he came because he was sent
- 6:50by God personally, privately, prophetically, providentially,
- 6:58and #5 He was sent passionately, passionately.
- 7:07If you got your Bible, turn me to Luke chapter 3.
- 7:11Luke chapter 3. And I want you to listen to what
- 7:18Luke says in verse #4 as it is written in the book of the words
- 7:26of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness.
- 7:35Stop right there. There was a voice of one crying
- 7:39in the wilderness. This was the fulfillment of
- 7:42Isaiah 40 verse #3 But John was sent passionately.
- 7:50It wasn't a small voice, it wasn't a quiet voice.
- 7:58It it wasn't a shy voice. It was a loud voice.
- 8:06It was a a voice that would shout, a voice that would cry in
- 8:12the wilderness. That there was passion behind
- 8:17John's message. He was a passionate kind of man.
- 8:23He had spent the last several years all by himself in the
- 8:28wilderness, communing with his God, recognizing that he would
- 8:31be sent prophetically, he'd be sent personally by God, He'd be
- 8:36sent providentially by God. And all of that welling up on
- 8:41the inside is now going to burst forth in great shouts of praise
- 8:46that the Messiah is here in anticipation of that which all
- 8:51had been longing for the expected one to come.
- 8:55He's going to announce that the expected one has now arrived.
- 9:01And so there's great passion behind his message.
- 9:05It wasn't that he would just simply talk about Jesus.
- 9:10It wasn't simply that he would just mention him by name.
- 9:14No, he was a a prophet and a preacher.
- 9:18But there was passion behind all that he did.
- 9:22There was passion behind him confronting Herod the King.
- 9:26There was passion behind him confronting the Pharisees when
- 9:29he called them a brood of Vipers.
- 9:32There was passion behind all that he said.
- 9:35Because John the Baptist was sent passionately.
- 9:41When you know that God prophetically has assigned you
- 9:45to represent him, and that God providentially cares for you and
- 9:49moves you to a specific place of employment, a specific family, a
- 9:54specific church, you can't help but cry in the wilderness and
- 10:01shout for the sake of God's Kingdom.
- 10:06What did he say? Well, it says, make ready the
- 10:10way the Lord make his past straight.
- 10:13Every ravine will be filled and every mountain and hill will be
- 10:16brought low. The crooked will become straight
- 10:19and the rough roads smooth, and all flesh will see the salvation
- 10:24of God. He is shouting in the
- 10:27wilderness. He is crying out to people to
- 10:30help them to understand that he is the fulfillment of that
- 10:32prophecy. Although he does not say look at
- 10:35me, I, I am the the prophet that was foretold.
- 10:39No, he quotes, he quotes the Old Testament.
- 10:44He does it with passion. Why?
- 10:47Because you see, this was a an entire analogy of his message.
- 10:55He preached the baptism of repentance and Isaiah 40 verse
- 10:59#3 is the supreme example of what repentance looks like.
- 11:05The Messiah is coming. You got to prepare the way for
- 11:10the Messiah. It was a, it was a phrase used
- 11:12for, for preparing the way of the king so that when the king
- 11:15would arrive, he'd have a smooth entrance into the city, a smooth
- 11:19entrance to to the people. And John is saying in order for
- 11:26there to be a smooth entrance for the Messiah into your heart,
- 11:33these things must take place. For this is what repentance
- 11:36looks like. He says simply that all the
- 11:41ravines must be filled up. That's an analogy of the dark
- 11:46places of the soul, the the depths of sin.
- 11:51Because repentance calls a man from the deep dark recesses of
- 11:58his heart and the things that he has hidden, that he might
- 12:02confess them and to turn from them.
- 12:07And even the high places, the mountains, why, the Jews thought
- 12:12themselves as very proud people. They were, of course, the people
- 12:16of God. They were the only ones who were
- 12:18given the oracles of God. They saw themselves as very
- 12:21special. But all the, the high places,
- 12:24all the mountains must be brought down.
- 12:27All the arrogance, all the pride must be destroyed.
- 12:30Not just the deep dark places in the recesses of your soul.
- 12:35Not only must they come up and be confessed, but you must be
- 12:38brought low before the Lord. And then he talks about the
- 12:44crooked places, the devious places, the devilish places, the
- 12:49the lying and the perverseness. Then he talks about the rough
- 12:54roads, all the distractions on the road in your heart, all the
- 13:01self love, all the love of money, all the love for the
- 13:05world and the lust of the flesh, all the apathy, all the
- 13:09unbelief, all the lethargy, all those things that happen to be
- 13:12obstacles that keep you from giving your life to the Lord.
- 13:16And then and then all flesh will see the glory of the Lord, see
- 13:21the salvation of the Lord. If you as a nation want to
- 13:24receive your Messiah, then you as individuals you personally
- 13:29must prepare the way for and become.
- 13:32And the only way to do that is to have a repented heart to turn
- 13:36from your sin and follow the Messiah.
- 13:40He did this with great passion. Passion.
- 13:46John the Baptist was not a passive person.
- 13:50Passivity is man's biggest failure.
- 14:00If you're a man, you should never be passive.
- 14:06Ever Notice that? We are.
- 14:09We are passionate about the things that don't matter, but
- 14:12we're passive about the things that do matter.
- 14:17You ever notice that? Just just ask your wife what
- 14:22you're passionate about. Ask your kids what drives you,
- 14:28What motivates you, what compels you.
- 14:32They'll tell you because they see you all the time, and you'll
- 14:37begin to notice that the things that drive you and you're
- 14:40passionate about really usually don't even matter.
- 14:46But we find that we're very passive about the things that do
- 14:50matter. The Lord, the gospel, the
- 14:54preaching of that gospel, the leadership in our homes,
- 14:58spiritually, all those things. John was a very passionate man,
- 15:06and therefore when God sent him forth, he was going to send
- 15:09somebody who had a small voice or a low voice or a quiet voice.
- 15:16He would send someone with energy, would drive with
- 15:19passion. Why?
- 15:21Because you're representing the king.
- 15:24You're representing the Kingdom of God, and you're going to be
- 15:28his ambassador, his representative.
- 15:32How can we represent God in a passive way?
- 15:37How can we represent Christ in a shallow, shy way?
- 15:44You really can't. Because you see, once you
- 15:48understand who God is, you cry, you shout, you scream the truth.
- 15:59And John did. The apostle Paul was a very
- 16:03passionate man. The Bible says in 2nd
- 16:07Corinthians 5 verse 14. For the love of Christ compels
- 16:12me, controls me, constrains me that the very fact that Christ
- 16:20loves me is the single most motivating element of my life.
- 16:26It controls everything that I do.
- 16:29And and Paul was was passionate about his God.
- 16:34And Paul would speak forth the truth about his God in such a
- 16:38way that that others would would be persuaded.
- 16:41I mean, it was like it was like Agrippa said Paul, thou almost
- 16:45persuadest me. Why?
- 16:47Because Paul and his delivery and Paul and his passion and
- 16:50Paul and his drive to see God glorified would not be held
- 16:55back. And so many of us are held back
- 17:01for what purpose? And here was John, here was
- 17:07Paul. Paul would go on and say this.
- 17:09The love of Christ compels us. Having concluded this, that one
- 17:13died for all, therefore all died, and he died for all, so
- 17:16that we, they who live might no longer live for themselves, but
- 17:19for him who died and rose again on their behalf.
- 17:22He died so I would live for him. I'm living for Christ.
- 17:24That's why I'm passionate. That's why you're not
- 17:27passionate. See, you're not living for
- 17:29Christ, you're living for yourself.
- 17:32So how can you be passionate about the things of God?
- 17:35You're not, but you're passionate about the things for
- 17:38yourself because you're living for yourself and not living for
- 17:40God. But Paul says the love of Christ
- 17:42compels me because one died for all, therefore all died, and
- 17:46therefore it moves me. So I no longer live for me, but
- 17:50I live for Christ. That's the point.
- 17:55He goes on to say this in verse 20.
- 17:58We are ambassadors for Christ as though God, we're making an
- 18:02appeal through us. God is making an appeal through
- 18:07you. How does God make an appeal
- 18:10through you? I hope you give your life to
- 18:13Jesus. I hope you love Jesus.
- 18:16Oh, that's not an appeal. So he says this, we beg you on
- 18:22behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
- 18:26There's a pleading that's there. There's a passion that that's
- 18:29there. There's a drive that's there.
- 18:31I want you to be reconciled to God.
- 18:33I want you to come to Godfather Mother, ask yourself why your
- 18:38parent, your children are not coming to God.
- 18:42Do they see the passion that you have for God, the drive you have
- 18:47for him? The love of Christ just compels
- 18:50you. Now it might be that God has not
- 18:52called him to himself as of yet, and he might next week or down
- 18:58the road. But we can't be a hindrance in
- 19:02the communication of the gospel. We must be passionate behind
- 19:07what we do. We must drive, be driven behind
- 19:11what we do. Why?
- 19:12When it's all said and done, that's why we're here, to preach
- 19:18the gospel and to present Christ to a lost world.
- 19:23This is so important. And so here is John the Baptist.
- 19:29He's been waiting 30 years, 30, to somehow be that voice that
- 19:39will show people the Messiah, that will point people to the
- 19:42Messiah, that they will understand who he is.
- 19:45He's been waiting and now the time has arrived and he can't
- 19:50contain the passion. He can't contain that which
- 19:55compels him. Just love for the Lord like it
- 20:00was for Paul, His love for the Lord like it should be for you
- 20:04and me. Our love for the Lord.
- 20:09But ask yourself, are you a passionate man or a passive man?
- 20:16How about your children? Father, are your sons, are they
- 20:19passionate or are they passive? Ask yourself why?
- 20:27Why are my kids on a fire for the Lord I am?
- 20:30How come my kids are on a fire for the Lord?
- 20:34There should be this compulsion that drives you.
- 20:39Now, it doesn't mean that all your children are going to be
- 20:41that way. I understand that.
- 20:42I get that. And yet we as parents, we as
- 20:48fathers especially need to be passionate men because our said
- 20:55it's on the wall. Our passion is to pursue the
- 20:57Christ, right? Our passion is to pursue him
- 21:03that we might know him. Here's John the Baptist
- 21:05privately communing with God for year upon year, week upon week,
- 21:09month upon month, always communing with his God, to know
- 21:13his God. Paul would say, oh, that I might
- 21:15know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship
- 21:18of his suffering. There was a passion behind Paul.
- 21:20There was a passion behind John the Baptist.
- 21:22There was a passion behind every great man of God to know his
- 21:25God. Our passion is to pursue him.
- 21:28So our priority will be to portray Him.
- 21:31So our purpose then will be fulfilled in proclaiming Him.
- 21:36That's our philosophy and ministry so that we can fulfill
- 21:40our practice of praising Him. That's how it works, see.
- 21:47But if we find ourselves not proclaiming Him and not
- 21:52portraying him, it's simply because we're not passionate to
- 21:58pursue him. It's just that simple.
- 22:02And so here is John, here is Paul, here are men of God who
- 22:08the love of Christ compels him. It motivates them, it drives
- 22:15them. What drives you, what drives you
- 22:18to get up in the morning? What drives you through your
- 22:21day, right? There's got to be a motivation
- 22:25behind each and every day. It's got to be the Christ.
- 22:30Why? Because not only was John sent
- 22:33passionately, number six, he was sent purposefully.
- 22:41Purposefully. There was a purpose behind God
- 22:45sending John, and one was to present the Gospel right,
- 22:53another. Another was to present the
- 22:58Messiah, in other words, to point to the Messiah as the Lamb
- 23:06of God. Turn with me in your Bible to
- 23:10Matthew chapter 3 for a moment. Matthew chapter 3 verse 13.
- 23:19Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan, coming to John to
- 23:23be baptized by him. What?
- 23:26Why is Jesus being baptized? I thought this was the baptism
- 23:29of repentance, but John tried to prevent him, saying I have need
- 23:34to be baptized by you and do you come to me.
- 23:39But Jesus answering said to him, permit it at this time.
- 23:44For in this way it is fitting for us, us to fulfill all
- 23:54righteousness. John is permitting for us to
- 23:59fulfill all righteousness. This is very important.
- 24:05Why, why, why would Jesus be baptized?
- 24:09Well, let me briefly give you 4 reasons.
- 24:12One was for exemplification, 1 was for validation, 1 was for
- 24:20identification, and one was for prefiguration.
- 24:26That's why Jesus was baptized. One was for exemplification.
- 24:32He would be the supreme example of what it meant to follow the
- 24:37Father's will. He came to do the Father's will,
- 24:43and he becomes the supreme example of obedience.
- 24:49And as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto God.
- 24:56And so he would exemplify to everyone around him that he was,
- 25:03as he said, I've come to do the will of my Father who is in
- 25:08heaven. So one is exemplif
- 25:12exemplification. The second one is validation.
- 25:16He was validating John's ministry.
- 25:20He was affirming John's ministry, that the message John
- 25:26was preaching was true, and that as the Messiah, you are paving
- 25:33the way of your heart by coming to a place where you recognize
- 25:37your sin and you need to turn to a Savior.
- 25:42And so he is validating John's ministry.
- 25:47And then there was identification.
- 25:50He's identifying with sinful man.
- 25:54Notice that the sinless Son is identifying with sinful man.
- 26:03The one who had no sin would be baptized for those who had no
- 26:08righteousness. That's very important because
- 26:14you see, he came to identify it with, with, with, with man.
- 26:18That that's why he became a man. Isaiah 53 verse #12 He was, he
- 26:22was numbered with the transgressors.
- 26:25So he could bear all of our iniquities, right?
- 26:30And therefore he would identify with the with the sins of man.
- 26:34He would he would ultimately bear man's sins on the cross.
- 26:40We see to the 4th element. There was a prefiguration by him
- 26:45going down to the water, coming back up out of the water again.
- 26:49He prefigured all that would happen through his death, burial
- 26:53in resurrection. Why?
- 26:54Because we as believers then would identify with Christ in
- 26:59his death, burial in resurrection, that there was a
- 27:02whole purpose behind John's, John's coming, John being sent.
- 27:08This man was sent purposefully to baptize the Messiah so that
- 27:13all righteousness would be fulfilled.
- 27:15Everything that had been planned and ordained by God needed to
- 27:18happen on schedule with the right guy, at the right time, in
- 27:22the right place, so everything was providentially cared for and
- 27:26taken care of. And here was Jesus coming to
- 27:30John in the wilderness to be baptized by John.
- 27:35But John would also be the one who would point to the Messiah.
- 27:39John 129 Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the
- 27:42world. Nobody else had done that.
- 27:46Nobody had pointed to the Messiah until John, and then he
- 27:51would say the Lamb of God. How?
- 27:55How did he know that? How did he get that?
- 27:59Oh, by the way, how come nobody ever questioned John about that?
- 28:01What do you mean Lamb of God? What are you talking about,
- 28:04John? That's because they knew Genesis
- 28:0622. Any of the substitutionary
- 28:08atonement was prefigured in Genesis chapter 22 with Abraham
- 28:13and Isaac on Mount Moriah. John would know that he would
- 28:18see Christ as that ultimate sacrificial lamb, that
- 28:23everything up to this point, every ceremony, every ritual was
- 28:26pointed to one substitute, 1 sacrifice, 1 Lamb of God that
- 28:33would do away with man's sin, no longer cover them, but erase
- 28:41them. So we could say the Lamb of God
- 28:45who takes away the state of the world doesn't cover them, He
- 28:48takes them away. So here is here is John with a
- 28:52purpose. Do you not think you have the
- 28:56same purpose? Do you not think that you were
- 29:00sent purposefully? Do you think you were not sent
- 29:05purposefully to your school or to your workplace or to your
- 29:13community? There's a whole plan of God
- 29:17behind where you live and where you work and who your friends
- 29:22are, who you associate with. All that is for a purpose.
- 29:29Don't think for one moment that things just happen to Willy
- 29:32nilly around you as if there is no concern on the part of God.
- 29:38No, everything that happens around you happens for a
- 29:41purpose, because God has placed you there purposefully so that
- 29:46others will see the Messiah. Because you will point to the
- 29:49Messiah. You'll explain to them who the
- 29:51Messiah is. You'll explain to them what it
- 29:53means to be redeemed, how it is you repent, how you give your
- 29:57life to Christ. That's why you are left here
- 30:00after your saved. Why else would God leave you
- 30:04here after he saved you to make money when all your treasures
- 30:09are in heaven anyway? God saved you so that you can
- 30:13have a family. No, God saves you and left you
- 30:19here for only one reason, to worship him.
- 30:23No, because your worship in heaven's going to be glorious
- 30:29death. Fellowship with other believers.
- 30:30No, because your fellowship in heaven will be perfect.
- 30:34The only thing that you're going to do here that you won't do
- 30:38there is preach the gospel. That's it.
- 30:46That's the only reason God left you here after He saved you.
- 30:50There is no other reason. Your family needs to hear the
- 30:53gospel. Your friends need to hear the
- 30:56gospel, the people you work with, the people you play with,
- 30:59you all need to hear the gospel. And God has put you in a
- 31:03specific arena that he's not placed me or the person in front
- 31:07of you or behind you. He's only put you there for one
- 31:12purpose only one, and that is to proclaim the name of Jesus
- 31:19Christ our Lord. That's it.
- 31:24So why is it we have such a hard time fulfilling that purpose?
- 31:30It's because we have other reasons that we think give us
- 31:38purpose. Other things mean more more to
- 31:42us than the gospel. Other things mean more to us
- 31:47than glorifying the name of Christ through the preaching of
- 31:50the gospel. And yet God has purposefully
- 31:56designed you to be where you are this very day, in your very job,
- 32:04in your very family, in your very community, with your very
- 32:10friends, because they need to hear about Christ.
- 32:18As this man was sent from God, so you too are sent from God.
- 32:28You are sent personally by God. He called you into His Kingdom
- 32:34by His glorious grace through the word of truth that was
- 32:39spoken to you. He's called you prophetically
- 32:44because your name was written in the Lamb's book of life before
- 32:46the foundation of the world. He called you providentially
- 32:53because at the right time, in the exact place, with the right
- 32:57word, with the right person, you heard the gospel and you gave
- 33:00your life to Christ, all in the Providence of Almighty God.
- 33:06And he called you passionately. He said you're representing me
- 33:10in my Kingdom, You're representing me in my mercy, in
- 33:14my grace, you're representing my love.
- 33:19How can you not be passionate about that?
- 33:23He's called you purposefully because there is a purpose for
- 33:27why you were here, and it's only one purpose, and that is to
- 33:34proclaim the gospel message of Christ to those around you who
- 33:40do not know Him. That's it.
- 33:46And lastly, John the Baptist was called powerfully, powerfully.
- 33:56Luke chapter 1 says in verse #14 or excuse me, verse #15 For he
- 34:07John, will be great in the sight of the Lord.
- 34:12Notice then say he'll be great in the sight of the world.
- 34:17He'll be great in the sight of the Lord, and that was good
- 34:24enough for John. I wonder if it's good enough for
- 34:26you to be great in the sight of the Lord.
- 34:31We so desperately want to be great, seen as great, treated as
- 34:36great, looked at as great. But the Lord wants you to be
- 34:41great in His eyes. He will be great in the eyes of
- 34:45the Lord, He would drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled
- 34:49with the Holy Spirit. While yet in his mother's womb.
- 34:52He will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their
- 34:55God. It is He who will go as a
- 34:57forerunner before him in the spirit and power of Elijah.
- 35:02Powerfully He was sent by God to turn the hearts of the Father's
- 35:06back to the children, the disobedient to the attitude of
- 35:10the righteous, so as to make ready of people prepared for the
- 35:17Lord. John was sent powerfully because
- 35:26he came in the spirit and power of Elijah.
- 35:30So when he would preach, he would preach unashamedly.
- 35:35When he preached, he would preach unhindered.
- 35:39It was almost as if He was unhinged when he did preach
- 35:44because he had nothing back, because he came in the spirit
- 35:49and power of Elijah. He was filled with the spirit
- 35:51from his mother's womb. No other man was like that
- 35:54except John. Because God was going to use
- 35:58them in a very powerful way. And you know what?
- 36:04God sends us forth powerfully as well, does He not?
- 36:10He's given us a spirit of power according to Acts chapter one
- 36:13verse #8 right, so that we can be His witnesses.
- 36:20He gave us the spirit of power. He infused us with His strength.
- 36:27And so we don't have to be ashamed when we speak up in the
- 36:30classroom. We don't have to be shy when we
- 36:35speak forth the gospel in the workplace.
- 36:39We have the spirit of power. I've been sent powerfully by the
- 36:42Lord because I've been sent providentially by the Lord,
- 36:47because I've been sent prophetically and personally by
- 36:51the Lord. Therefore, I can be passionate
- 36:54about what it is I believe because I have a purpose for
- 36:58living. I'm living for Christ and not
- 37:01for myself. I'm living to honor God and not
- 37:03myself. I'm living for Him and therefore
- 37:08I powerfully proclaim the gospel.
- 37:14That was John. There was a man, there was a man
- 37:19not just any man. He was an extraordinary man.
- 37:24He was different than every other man.
- 37:27We explained that to you on how different that he he really was
- 37:33uncompromising in his his message, unorthodox in his
- 37:42mannerisms, unrivalled among men.
- 37:50We gave you the list of those things that made this man the
- 37:53man that he was. This man, he was sent from by
- 38:00God, he was called by God, he was chosen by God, he was
- 38:09consecrated by God, he was cared for by God so he would be able
- 38:19to communicate his God in the most effective way.
- 38:27And he did. So the challenge for you and me,
- 38:32having spent five weeks on just one verse, what kind of man or
- 38:39woman are you? Because the standard is the
- 38:43Scriptures, The standard is the word of God.
- 38:46Standard's not me. Standard's not your parents.
- 38:50The standard is the word of God. The standard is John, the
- 38:54greatest man, whoever lived. So you must ask yourself the
- 38:57question, how do I measure up to that standard?
- 39:00Because that is the standard. And this man was sent from God.
- 39:08So too are you sent from God. If God has called you into his
- 39:12marvelous Kingdom, you've been sent by him.
- 39:17You've been sent by him to your family, to your church, to the
- 39:23world, to your friends, to your community.
- 39:26God has sent you. And how are you?
- 39:31How are you communicating the gospel to those people?
- 39:34How are you representing the Christ to those people?
- 39:39Do you do it powerfully? Do you do it passionately, or do
- 39:46you do it passively and impotently?
- 39:50That's the question we got to ask and answer ourselves.
- 39:52I can't ask. I can ask you that question, but
- 39:55only you can answer that. I can't answer it for you.
- 39:57But my prayer for all of us is that there would be this driving
- 40:03force behind us. The love of Christ, our
- 40:11relationship with the living God that compels me, that moves me,
- 40:15that constrains me, that motivates me to get up every
- 40:20morning. Today's a new day.
- 40:24To fulfill my purpose of communicating the gospel.
- 40:30Today's a new day to passionately represent my God.
- 40:35Today's a a new day to be able to help others understand how it
- 40:43is they can be in a relationship with the living God like I am.
- 40:49There is no greater force than that to drive you to get up
- 40:56everyday to be used by the Lord. God so desperately wants to use
- 41:03His people. That's why I saved you.
- 41:07Does He need you? No.
- 41:09Does he want to use you? Absolutely.
- 41:13Absolutely. Will you be used by him?
- 41:17When you go home today and you go through your day and you lay
- 41:23down at night, just say this to yourself.
- 41:30There was a man sent from God, and just insert there was a
- 41:37woman sent from God whose name was Sue, whose name was
- 41:47whatever, but there was a person sent from God.
- 41:55Will you be that person? Will you be that man?
- 41:57Will you be that woman and say to yourself, I've been sent by
- 42:03God and you will later say to the disciples, as the Father has
- 42:07sent me, so send I you. We've been sent to go into all
- 42:14the world and make disciples. What a great purpose for living
- 42:19every single day. Let me pray with you, Father, we
- 42:22thank you for all that you do and all that you say and all
- 42:25that you are. We thank you that Lord we can
- 42:28understand more about this man and how it is you sent him.
- 42:31And pray, Father, that we would be the kind of people that would
- 42:35represent you well every day, knowing that you've called us to
- 42:39be used by you for the glory of your Kingdom until you come
- 42:44again, as you most surely will, in Jesus name, Amen.
