- 0:27I'm alive. Welcome to the All Balls No
- 0:30Philtre podcast, live from the cabin Kitchen.
- 0:33I'm Zach. He's Brad.
- 0:35Hello everybody. And behind the scenes, we have a
- 0:38man who is absent in both mind and presence this week because
- 0:42he's not here. Once again, it's researcher Kyle
- 0:45who's not here. It's interesting that you say
- 0:48his absence in is absent in mind and presence, considering his as
- 0:52the sort of nickname amongst our group is Megamind.
- 0:56The irony is not lost on me with that one.
- 0:59Rumour, and as it the reason why he hasn't shown his face yet is
- 1:01we can't find a camera big enough for his head.
- 1:04Wow, he's getting personal now. God research Kyle, get on it.
- 1:08It's slander. He might join us.
- 1:11He might join us throughout the session.
- 1:13He's just got something on at this moment in time, which we
- 1:15might get into a little bit later.
- 1:16But he's he's, he might, he might join us in a little bit.
- 1:19But anyway, Brad, how are you today?
- 1:21Yeah, I'm not too bad at all to be honest.
- 1:25I think last week I'd spoken about having a bit of time off
- 1:28work and things, which has been lovely.
- 1:30Back to the grind this week, but not going to woes me story that
- 1:35one. But now I'm I'm I'm not too bad.
- 1:40How's yourself? Hey, I'm good, I'm good.
- 1:43I feel I'm this week, last week, I'm a bit flustered.
- 1:48If you couldn't tie on the episode, a little bit flustered.
- 1:51My teddy nearly got thrown out of the waggon.
- 1:52I'm not going to lie to you, but we're a little bit better today.
- 1:55We're a bit of a better spot touch ward, you know, and all
- 1:58that jazz. We we we're getting there at a
- 2:00decent weekend and yeah, looking forward to the show today, mate.
- 2:04What we're going to start is the main question.
- 2:07Yeah, I mean it's been probably a fairly quiet ish one in the
- 2:11world of the NFL. There's a few stories we'll
- 2:13definitely touch on, but we're going to visit those headlines
- 2:15obviously on a quiet pre draft week.
- 2:18So we're not far away from the draft now, are we?
- 2:20That's just over a week away. We'll probably I think the plan
- 2:25is to dig a bit deeper into the draft next week.
- 2:28So bear with us on that one and and obviously make sure you tune
- 2:31in for that. We've had an interesting week
- 2:36though. Actually.
- 2:37We've touched base with all of the AFC teams this past week and
- 2:42they've shared with us just a word or two about how they feel
- 2:45about themselves. And, and I'm being honest here,
- 2:48they really wanted to speak with those nobodies.
- 2:51So I hope you're interested to hear what they've got to say and
- 2:54that'll be coming up later in the show.
- 2:57And then for the first time properly, I guess we're actually
- 3:00going to discuss the world of brick ball.
- 3:01So for those that don't know, that term, brick ball is the the
- 3:05title, if you like, given to American football played over
- 3:09here in Britain. And so the adult contact season
- 3:12commences this weekend. So we're going to have a little
- 3:14look at that and of course visit the world of rugby league and
- 3:18other sports. Away and I'm looking forward to
- 3:24hearing what these teams have to say I'm not going to lie I'm I
- 3:27am I'm I'm looking forward to it but let's get into the news
- 3:30headlines for the week shall we and coming into this has Mike
- 3:37Rabel been a naughty boy all right and it's a bit bit Ash is
- 3:44that I must admit but if you're not seen all over X Mr Brabel
- 3:49has been caught in a compromising position with the
- 3:51New York Times NFL reporter Diana Rossini.
- 3:54I believe now I'm not just throwing all the blame on one
- 3:58side here because I want to touch on this a little bit.
- 4:01I mean, so today, but I want to touch on this a little bit,
- 4:03right, which is the fact that miss or misses actually, I think
- 4:09I think is at the memo because she has a fella.
- 4:12This is not the first time she's been caught in a compromising
- 4:15position with someone from the NFL.
- 4:17Whilst presumably everything, by the way, is a is is a highly
- 4:21presumed allegation and and it's all an assumption.
- 4:25Let's just say she's been caught a couple of Times Now doing the
- 4:31exact same thing while trying to get a scoop with a team in with
- 4:34an informed team or a how can I put it like I highly spoke about
- 4:40team at the time. Now, look, the photos don't look
- 4:43great. I'm not going to lie to you, but
- 4:44pictures speak 1000 words and we don't know the the context
- 4:47behind these. So we're definitely not going to
- 4:48throw shape where we don't know facts.
- 4:50That's that that that is something there.
- 4:52But she was caught back in 2015 with Sean Vay, the Rams head
- 4:57coach at the time, which then ended up leading into a drunken
- 5:01fistfight with Mcveigh's other half of the time Brit McHenry.
- 5:05But we then ended up getting into a scrapper with them and
- 5:08not only that issue caught in 2012 with the with the then
- 5:12Redskins GM now Commanders, but the then Redskins GM at the time
- 5:17caught in a compromised mission with them.
- 5:19Now look, right. I don't know what you think
- 5:22about this, Brad, but I just think, you know, you're still
- 5:24getting caught If you're going to if you're going to, you're
- 5:26going to start doing this so much places and going outside,
- 5:29if you know what I mean. Well, I was, I wasn't aware of
- 5:32this until this like the last sort of 24 hours or so.
- 5:35Obviously this broke I think. Was it like late last week I
- 5:38think or over the weekend? And apparently so, you know, the
- 5:41pictures of them sort of at the hotel laid on the sun lounges
- 5:44and stuff next to each other. Apparently it's like, obviously,
- 5:47I mean, obviously it's quite an exclusive hotel, but there's
- 5:49rules around phones, you know, allowed phones in actual like
- 5:51public areas. And it's quite clearly like an
- 5:54iPhone picture or something like that, isn't it?
- 5:56It's not like a professional hidden in the bushes sort of
- 5:58job. So it's just interesting to see,
- 6:01you know, to know where that sort of leak, if you like, has
- 6:04come from. I think it's it's a difficult 1,
- 6:07isn't it? You don't want to sort of
- 6:09comment on people's private lives too much.
- 6:12But what I think's quite interesting about it, My
- 6:17perspective is realistically it's all the sort of he is on
- 6:23her. And I know you kinda have said
- 6:26like the this this form there. And I'll be honest, I've I've
- 6:29got no awareness of that history whatsoever.
- 6:34But I think the heat actually potentially comes from the job
- 6:38she's in. You know, she's she's basically
- 6:41an insider, isn't she? Is it the athletic she works
- 6:45for? I think she's part of the New
- 6:48York Times. I think that's a part of the New
- 6:49York Times, isn't it? So she's basically their
- 6:52insider, if you like, she's their main sort of NFL reporter.
- 6:56So you're saying they're like, you know, she's trying to, is
- 6:59she trying to get the scoop and, and things like that.
- 7:02And what's interesting is like as a, as a reporter, like I
- 7:04don't, I'm not a journalist. I'm not a reporter by any means
- 7:08of the word, but part of your authenticity is that sort of the
- 7:16way you go about your business and the way you get your
- 7:18contacts and the way you deal with other people.
- 7:22And actually, what's quite interesting with this one, and
- 7:25I'm not sort of taking any credit from this sort of angle.
- 7:29I've actually sort of read this and heard it in a few different
- 7:31places. And I kind of see where they're
- 7:33coming from. Is, you know, one of the big
- 7:36sort of stories that's coming from the Patriots camp this sort
- 7:39of offseason is the sort of interesting players like A.J.
- 7:42Brown and things like that. And it'd be interesting to see
- 7:45how to know how much that angle is coming from her or, or is she
- 7:51trying to get the inside track on that And, you know, to be
- 7:53able to drop the news for, I don't know, Obviously neither of
- 7:57us know, but it's certainly not a a good position to be caught
- 8:00in for either of them, is it? No, it's not.
- 8:03No, it's not. We're not.
- 8:04We're not going to have people's lifestyles on air, but it's just
- 8:08one of them. It's not.
- 8:09It's not a great look, but I'm sure it'll all come out and
- 8:12they'll be statements from both parties as to as to what was
- 8:15actually going. Oh, well, that thing, well,
- 8:18yeah, well, we, we'd like, we'd like to think so anyway.
- 8:21Moving on. The Texans have exercised their
- 8:245th and that is on two players. CJ Stroud has exit as a guys 5th
- 8:30year extension which has been claimed to be worth around $25
- 8:33million for the year, as well as their defensive end Will
- 8:37Anderson, who is also worth roughly around $21 million for
- 8:41the year. For me, smart bear business CJ
- 8:44CJ Stroud has shown he shows some lightning lightning ability
- 8:49and he has he's he's got them to good places and he he is good.
- 8:55He has lacked that maturity and just that that ball knowledge in
- 8:59the NFL and he's get to grow up quite a few times like in the
- 9:03game, if that makes sense. You're just making them silly
- 9:05mistakes that so I I think it's a very smart decision in terms
- 9:08of just get one more year out of him.
- 9:10See how he gets on it is what it is.
- 9:11If we don't work out the move on.
- 9:13But I, I, I see, I think, I think he's decent.
- 9:17I think he's a good little sign in front, to be fair.
- 9:19I think for a player like CJ, you've got to you've I think
- 9:22you've probably got to take the 5th year option.
- 9:25I don't think he's being consistent enough to justify a
- 9:29real big contract. You know, you potentially enter
- 9:31in that to a trap, aren't you, where you you make the big deal
- 9:35because you've just got to with the quarterbacks.
- 9:37It's just the next man up, isn't it?
- 9:40And this probably just gives them another year, another bit
- 9:43of breathing space. My assumption would be they'll
- 9:46probably tie Will Anderson up to a longer term contract sooner
- 9:50rather than later, you know, probably before CJ.
- 9:55But then on the flip side of that, if you are thinking about
- 9:57keeping him, you probably need to do the business with your
- 9:59quarterback because that's going to be the highest paid contract
- 10:02in your team, you would assume. But I think, yeah, I agree.
- 10:06I think it's the right sort of next step for the Texans and
- 10:10it'll be, it'll be interesting to see what comes next for these
- 10:14two players and whether they produce the goods that, you
- 10:18know, the Texans are hoping. Yeah, For me, it forces CJ to to
- 10:22play well for the first the first half of the season because
- 10:25you know, a lot of the time they'll get these big contracts
- 10:28towards like the middle of the season when, especially in these
- 10:3350 years in particular, the game on towards back end of the
- 10:35towards the middle of this season.
- 10:39They've got to play the skin out to earn it.
- 10:41And if they're not playing, if he's not playing that consistent
- 10:43CJ Stroud that we know where he's playing really well every
- 10:46game, he ain't going to get paid.
- 10:48And if he continues to do that, he would go into free agency
- 10:50next time around and probably turn into a backup QB with how
- 10:52the QB draft looks class looks in the next couple of years.
- 10:55So I think he's really smart for both sides because it forces him
- 11:00to play better. It forces him to improve that
- 11:02game rather than not saying it happened with two, but that two
- 11:06attract where they gave him the money and he just declined
- 11:10rather than improved and rather than forced him to do it.
- 11:12I don't think I said I didn't think a lot of it's
- 11:13psychological for for for two were there.
- 11:15But I think it's a good thing for for CJI, think it's a good
- 11:18thing for the Texans in general. Yeah, I agree.
- 11:21I think it's yeah smart little bit of business.
- 11:23It's, it's the right thing to do and we'll see see if it works
- 11:27out for them. But I think it's relatively low
- 11:29risk, potentially high reward on the 5th year option.
- 11:32So I think it probably makes sense generally.
- 11:36Completely agree. Right?
- 11:37We have two of our passions. Big crossover rugby league NFL
- 11:43crossover. Is it happening again?
- 11:45Rugby league giant Ben T Ben Tokora Brisbane Broncos has been
- 11:50given permission to do a six week NFL training camp in hopes
- 11:55of impressing teams. Now the big question here is why
- 11:59and has it worked in the past? It it's a mixed bag, isn't it?
- 12:04Obviously you hear of some big names going across and it it
- 12:10very rarely works in my opinion. You know, I always remember
- 12:14Jared Hayes like he was sort of, hey, sorry, the first one sort
- 12:18of who went across and you know, when he went across, he he was
- 12:22seen as an absolute top end player to care, if I'm not
- 12:27mistaken, has probably had quite limited playing time in the NRLI
- 12:33think he's had a few injuries and a few knocks and things
- 12:35there. So will it work?
- 12:39I don't know. I just think when you grow up
- 12:42playing rugby and that's your whole career, you're then
- 12:46suddenly shifting across and trying to compete with players
- 12:49who have grown up their entire life playing in the NFL.
- 12:51And when we look at some of the athletes in the NFL, these are
- 12:55like, we're talking like top athletes.
- 12:57Plus then the fact that they've played this sport their entire
- 13:00life, so it's just difficult to be able to compete with that.
- 13:05See, for me, I don't think it's the athleticism that ever lets
- 13:08them down. I think it's the the knowledge
- 13:13and just how smart they are as a a person.
- 13:17And I don't mean any disrespect to anybody because I'm not the
- 13:19brightest person in in in the world.
- 13:21I'm all my hands up to that. But like you imagine not knowing
- 13:27it's it's he's talking another language, a massive table, a big
- 13:30thing to to prove this, Gruden just put out his new QB classes
- 13:34on YouTube, right to go watch them.
- 13:36And he sits down with the QBs in the class this year in the
- 13:38draft. And he just shouted A shouting
- 13:41place to each other. And it is just a complete other
- 13:44language. And This is why I feel like a
- 13:46lot of them don't work because they're going, you know, as they
- 13:49expected. I would be a wide receiver going
- 13:51to be a running back. And they just can't grasp the,
- 13:54the coaches have to tweet the playbooks and things to make a
- 13:59simpler play for when, when they're in rather than being
- 14:01able to express themselves because they don't understand
- 14:03the lingo, the jargon, just the way the game works.
- 14:05They're just expecting to get the ball.
- 14:07We've seen it in the past, bro, when we've had when we've had
- 14:09rugby players come down and play our level of football, which is,
- 14:13which is nowhere near like what these guys are.
- 14:17And they've come down. Oh, you're just wearing pods and
- 14:19omics on the ball. And then they realise there's a
- 14:21lot of thinking. It's chess we contact at the end
- 14:23of the day you've got to think further front and that for me is
- 14:27what I think is the biggest let down for the the rugby players
- 14:32trying to go into it. And it's just not only that
- 14:35comes with time and knowledge. You know, again, a practise one
- 14:39out of it doesn't get you either at all, does it?
- 14:41No, it doesn't and I think you're absolutely right.
- 14:43It's it's like, you know, learning.
- 14:45You kept learning a completely new language.
- 14:47I mean even just compare like rugby league to rugby union like
- 14:50that, it's 2 completely different sports.
- 14:52Compare American football to flag football.
- 14:54It's, it is just a different game and it's so hard and you
- 14:58know, you will have people who do fairly well, but they're not.
- 15:02How much time can an NFL team give you when you've got all the
- 15:06players who've been doing it the whole life and are just as
- 15:08athletic who can do it? You know, I think the
- 15:10interesting thing about this guy, and and it's probably a
- 15:14reason you've got NFL teams potentially interested in this
- 15:17sort of trial for six weeks, is that by all accounts is the
- 15:21tallest player in the NRL. So he is, if I'm getting this
- 15:25stat right, 205 centimetres tall.
- 15:29I don't know what that works out.
- 15:33Yeah, yeah, nearly as tall as you, but I'm just quickly
- 15:39figuring this out now. So it's six?
- 15:40Yes. It's 6 foot 8:00 and it's 6 foot
- 15:438.7 inches. So he is a beast.
- 15:48It'd be interesting to see where they saw her start placing him
- 15:51as a as an athlete really on the field for an NFL team.
- 15:55But you know what? I wish him well.
- 15:58I wish him well. I hope it works for him.
- 15:59It's apparently a dream of his. So it's, you know, they've given
- 16:04him this opportunity to go and do that six week, six week trial
- 16:07at training camp. So maybe it'll work, maybe it
- 16:10won't. And you know, nothing lost is
- 16:12there all. The time we'll tell him we'll
- 16:14try and keep up with with that. We'll we'll we'll try and keep,
- 16:18you know, in the loop with that right, we're going to move on
- 16:21right quickly, mate, just to a couple of signings and trades
- 16:23that have happened around the NFL.
- 16:25Dontavian Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagle Eagles, a
- 16:29wide receiver that's gone for a 2026 fifth round and a twenty
- 16:3427th 7th round. So he's going to send to the
- 16:38Eagles for them picks, low level picks, nice little, nice little
- 16:42backup receiver, just adds that depth across there.
- 16:46Brandon Allen's gone to the Giants QB backup, no contract
- 16:51details just yet as a free agent.
- 16:52So he's going to be there. Just supporting that QB room bit
- 16:54of knowledge in there and just just getting that backup QBs are
- 16:58so underrated in the NFL, especially when the veteran
- 17:00backup QBs to just to bring that knowledge and just to support
- 17:02the QBs. That QB room in particular as I
- 17:05just spoke about how how knowledgeable you've got to be
- 17:10as AQ as a QB and a large more to the Philadelphia Eagles and
- 17:14other wide receiver there. One year, $5,000,000.
- 17:17It's got a sign. It's got a sign in there for
- 17:20that. And again, another little
- 17:21addition to both of that, that Eagles wide receiver room,
- 17:28really. Lovely little.
- 17:31Bit of business, not too bad, not too bad.
- 17:33But if you're, if you, if you listen to this guys, we have all
- 17:36these on screen. So if you didn't hear anything I
- 17:37just said there because I know I can speak a bit fast sometimes
- 17:40you can see it on screen. So you can read it and catch up
- 17:42with it that way. Head over to our YouTube channel
- 17:44as well, Spotify. You can see it all on there.
- 17:47Every episode has a video. You can also see mine and Brad's
- 17:50wonderful faces. So yeah, head over to the All
- 17:54Balls no filler YouTube page and Spotify.
- 17:57See it from there. Drop us a comment and a review
- 17:59and all that jazz. Unsubscribe, right, mate?
- 18:03I am looking forward to this next bit we're getting into.
- 18:08I mean you, you were the one that kind of got this deal for
- 18:10us. You were the one that that got
- 18:12in touch with the teams. I worked really hard.
- 18:14I've worked really hard on this. We're still waiting for the NFC
- 18:18teams to come back though, right?
- 18:19Yeah, that's it. I thought, you know, 16 teams is
- 18:22a big job for me, you know, so I've sort of got my agents out
- 18:27there. They're sort of working with
- 18:28some of the NFC agents and sort of representation from the teams
- 18:32and we're hoping we might have them maybe next week, maybe
- 18:34after the draft, we'll we'll see how the land falls, but we'll
- 18:38find the right time to share this wonderful insight that
- 18:41we're getting with you. OK, so let's start off with team
- 18:46sentences, OK? So again, we're going to start
- 18:49off with the AFC East, OK? And now I've just seen the the
- 18:54e-mail that's come through there.
- 18:56So the Buffalo Bills, the statement about the Buffalo
- 18:59Bills. I'm elite enough to dominate in
- 19:02January, but not quite enough to survive it.
- 19:08How very honest and open of pills to admit that.
- 19:13Yes. And then for some reason the
- 19:15Dolphins, the Dolphins got in touch with me about this one.
- 19:17May the Dolphins. Sure they did.
- 19:21Team #2 the Miami Dolphins. I look like a Ferrari in
- 19:24September. They're mysteriously breakdown
- 19:26when winter hits. So let's start.
- 19:32Well, but then, you know, I've been, that's what we're trying
- 19:35to get at the start. All right.
- 19:36And then just the wheels fall. Off it's interesting that Miami
- 19:40seems so self aware finally that actually that there's kind of
- 19:45like a a double meaning here that they shit the bed later in
- 19:49the season but ironically refer to the weather.
- 19:52What? What a coincidence, Shadow.
- 19:55Right. Is there two AFC team for
- 19:58myself? Yeah.
- 20:00And then so the New York Jets, the the lovely franchise that
- 20:05they are. So they had an interesting
- 20:08statement that they shared with me.
- 20:10They said we are just one healthy season away from
- 20:15greatness. Unfortunately, that season is
- 20:18purely theoretical. Hey, I'm liking the honestness
- 20:25that's coming from these teams right now.
- 20:27This is this is pure like, you know, exclusivity that we're
- 20:32getting on the all balls no for the podcast here that they're
- 20:34giving us the honestness here. The, you know, the honesty.
- 20:37Should I say you're right from there?
- 20:39Maybe it's the fact that we are just nobody, so like no one's
- 20:42listening to this so we can just get it off of our chest as like
- 20:45a bit of an outlet or something. Maybe so.
- 20:48You know, speaking about that honesty, your beloved Patriots
- 20:52were quite interesting, sort of kind of saying what we're all
- 20:55thinking really is that, you know, admitting that.
- 20:58Well, I'll, I'll just read it word for word.
- 20:59So we used to be a dynasty. Now we're just aggressively
- 21:05nostalgic about Tom Brady. Hey, look, right?
- 21:11Their words, their words. There were a look like some
- 21:14greatness and and and he was the greatest of all time in the
- 21:17greatest dynasty of all time. So yeah, I get what they're
- 21:19saying. I get what they're.
- 21:21Saying, do you not feel like they could have?
- 21:22Do you? Do you not feel like you know
- 21:24the greatest quarterback of all time?
- 21:26Greatest player of all time in one of, if not the greatest
- 21:29dynasty of all time? Probably should have honoured
- 21:32him with one of the best statues of all time, as opposed to the
- 21:35shambles they did erect. That's like, that's like, that's
- 21:39like Portugal and the Cristiano Ronaldo 10 my.
- 21:42Word. It's awful.
- 21:43What he did is, is like as a footballer, the, the you think
- 21:47the country would like get around him and get the best
- 21:49people involved with it. And it was the worst like.
- 21:52Is it? Is it outside?
- 21:54Is it Madeira's airport? Is that where it is?
- 21:57God, it's just horrific. He looks deformed, doesn't he?
- 22:01Yeah, but I agree. I I got a better thing me about
- 22:07statues. I just don't think you should do
- 22:09them. I I I don't think you should be
- 22:11making statues. Madame Tussauds the sound
- 22:13because he's wax and all that jazz, but statues I just don't
- 22:16think you should be doing because they never come out
- 22:17right. No statue.
- 22:19I you know what, right prove me wrong in the comments below.
- 22:22Find me a statue that looks good that looks like the person that
- 22:26he's supposed to look like legitimately not just like
- 22:29always got got the same nose. No, find me a statue that looks
- 22:33good because I'm just, you know. I'm just throwing it out here
- 22:37mate, I feel like you're opening yourself up to some absolute
- 22:40carnage here. Considering the different sort
- 22:44of representational characters you have amongst our friendship
- 22:49group, you are in serious bother here.
- 22:53Oh yeah. I might even get on there on the
- 22:56comments myself. Are we try it's not right moving
- 23:01on AFC North the Cincinnati Bengals got in touch and very
- 23:04similar, you know, weirdly, you know, very similar to the New
- 23:07York Jets woman. And and since that Bengals got
- 23:09in touch in the base time, I said, look, I'm one Joe Burrow
- 23:12healthy season away from being everyone's nightmare, which I
- 23:16think is quite honest. You know, they just can't keep
- 23:19him fit. They just can't keep him fit.
- 23:21They can't. They can't blast them.
- 23:24And then we've got the Pittsburgh State, Pittsburgh
- 23:26Steelers who came in saying, look, I refuse to have a losing
- 23:29season, but I used to I but I also refuse to have a scary 1.
- 23:34So you know that that winning record there, I think, but
- 23:37they're just still pretty shit. You know what?
- 23:40Do you think is going to happen with that?
- 23:42Do you think that record of theirs is still going to lie?
- 23:44Is it a Pittsburgh Steeler record or is it a Mike Tomlin
- 23:47record? Like you're so interested in
- 23:49this to see how this goes. I, I think it's whatever you
- 23:56know. I don't know.
- 23:57I don't know, to be fair. I mean, they don't have a
- 24:00quarterback at the minute, do they?
- 24:01Like it's so unknown. No, and I honestly, I don't
- 24:07know. I think the I think it's just
- 24:10going to sound really obvious. I think it's six of them both
- 24:13until it's broken, if that makes sense.
- 24:16Like the moment Pittsburgh Steelers have it without him,
- 24:20for instance, is at the moment it's a Mike Tomlin record.
- 24:23Do you know what I mean? At this moment in time, it's
- 24:26just up in the air as being both of the records for the for the
- 24:28foreseeable. It's like a weird version of the
- 24:31Brady Belichick sort of discussion, isn't it?
- 24:35Yeah, yeah, exactly the same. Like exactly the same.
- 24:38That's that. That'd be my view on that.
- 24:39You're AFC Northwest, buddy. Yeah, so the Baltimore Ravens
- 24:43reached out directly back to me after obviously, you know,
- 24:46asking them for the the inside scoop.
- 24:48And they were really open. And ironically, they said, you
- 24:52know what, it's it's probably likely that the Bills are going
- 24:54to say something similar. They say, you know, we dominate
- 24:57from September to December and then we just politely excuse
- 25:01ourselves from January. Yeah, yeah, I I dig it.
- 25:08And then quite closely followed by the Cleveland Browns, they
- 25:11were sort of in there straight away and they said, look, we'll
- 25:14give you statements for the next 5-6 years if you get approved at
- 25:17the owners meeting. But said no, no, no, just this,
- 25:19just this moment's all right. And they said I very much enjoy
- 25:22spending huge money each year just to creatively reinvent
- 25:28disappointment. I.
- 25:30Love it. You can't reinvent the wheel,
- 25:32but you can reinvent disappointment.
- 25:33I love it. You can indeed.
- 25:36Indianapolis Colts came in and they were talking they were they
- 25:41were humming and hiring which way to go about this, but they
- 25:44went with the the the narrative on themselves being I spin the
- 25:47QB wheel. I spin the QB roulette wheel
- 25:50every year and I swear this time at London a winner.
- 25:55They got that one there and the tie ends and another AFC S team
- 26:00came in talking about the state of their team at the moment and
- 26:05and where they're at as a franchise and the basically turn
- 26:08around to look I'm I'm mid rebuild, I'm mid identity and
- 26:12currently just mid. How very transparent.
- 26:22So honest. It's almost like 2026 is like a
- 26:26new year, new me in terms of teams, transparency and honest
- 26:31and sort of self-awareness. It's crazy.
- 26:33It's. It's like a new like a new me,
- 26:36new year, new new year, new me thing.
- 26:39Yeah. Oh, that's your bang.
- 26:41Yeah. So the Texans got in touch and
- 26:45they said, look, we went from rebuild to contender so fast,
- 26:50even we're a bit confused. And everyone around us seems to
- 26:53pretend that they saw it coming. Hey.
- 26:58Look right with that right. So just I love the honesty there
- 27:03with the Texans, right. And when you think about it, it
- 27:08is quite, it's factual that because we all were like, Oh
- 27:13yeah, we can sequence because of the defence and everything.
- 27:16But they kind of halted in signings, if that makes sense.
- 27:19Because I don't like, I think they're, I, I don't think they
- 27:22realise they're probably 2 years above their schedule and
- 27:25everybody else. Yeah, and it was it like I think
- 27:27they had when they first got CJ, didn't they?
- 27:29They had that really big year and then they had a quiet a year
- 27:33or two and then suddenly last year, I know where it was like,
- 27:35well, here it was. They were like quietly sneaky
- 27:39good whole season. And then suddenly they're like
- 27:42battling it out to be in the Super Bowl.
- 27:43Just madness. A team that wasn't battling out
- 27:48to be in the Super Bowl, that was the Jaguars.
- 27:51And they were quite open and honest about their sort of legal
- 27:58obligations. So they came back to me and they
- 28:02said look, we need to be more careful because we start looking
- 28:07like a playoff team right up until remembering that we are
- 28:10legally obligated to collapse mid season.
- 28:15That now that you you brought our friendship group into that
- 28:20could bring some of our friendship group on your back
- 28:21here in the comments, you know, because that is a that is direct
- 28:26fire the Jaguars there. I know they're not your words.
- 28:30These are my. Words.
- 28:31I know they're not your words don't shoot the messengers, as
- 28:34the saying goes. But you know when they say, when
- 28:38they say the truth hurts. He's he's getting there, right.
- 28:45Moving on to the AFC West. Now the Denver Broncos got a
- 28:48touch. And you know, to the quite
- 28:50honest, to be quite honest with you, I'm still paying for
- 28:53yesterday's decisions while hoping my next QB fix finally
- 28:57sticks. So that big chunk of money going
- 29:01out hoping that this next QB, yeah, we get it.
- 29:05And they've got a lot of a lot of promise with the QB.
- 29:09I'm not sure if you got those emails right way around that
- 29:11could have quite easily been from my dolphins.
- 29:14Well, yeah, there is that, to be fair, coming from a law team as
- 29:17well, to be quite honest, I'm sure that it was.
- 29:19Yeah, denver.broncos@gmail.com. That's where it where it came
- 29:22from. Legit with them.
- 29:24Right, Exactly. So AFC West continues with the
- 29:28Los Angeles charges. And these were these were one of
- 29:34the most honest reviews, I must admit that we got back in and it
- 29:37was I find new and creative ways to waste elite talent every
- 29:43single year. So honesty A is fine.
- 29:48It's there from our our Los Angeles charges.
- 29:51Indeed I. Can't believe Harbaugh let that
- 29:53go. No, right.
- 29:55I don't think he realised to be fair.
- 29:57I'm sure when he listens to this episode tomorrow he will be
- 30:00fuming. Yeah.
- 30:05OK, so for the last two we've got, I'm not going to end with
- 30:09the Chiefs because I feel like that's just cliche.
- 30:11But the Chiefs did get in touch and they said, look, we're at
- 30:15the point now a little bit longer this one.
- 30:17We're at the point now where we're ready to get back to our
- 30:20old ways. Ways where even when we're
- 30:23playing badly, we still somehow win.
- 30:25Like that one mate who turns up late to 5A side, does nothing
- 30:29all game and then scores the winner and acts like it was the
- 30:31plan all along. I like it.
- 30:35I like it. Bravo, Chiefs.
- 30:36Bravo. Very well done, Chiefs, if I do
- 30:39say so myself. And then last but not least, the
- 30:43Raiders, which are an interesting franchise, aren't
- 30:47they? So again, really, really honest
- 30:50this one. This one's in first person so I
- 30:52don't know if it's from Mr Brady himself or other higher ups in
- 30:56the team, but it says I make bold headline grabbing decisions
- 31:02that are all absolutely genius and full of swagger.
- 31:07Where we then wake up and realise they were made at 2:00
- 31:09AM after 3 pints and a dodgy kebab.
- 31:13And by the morning, you're left trying to piece together what on
- 31:16earth you were thinking and how it's somehow got even more
- 31:19chaotic than before. See that that could that could
- 31:24have quite easily been from the Browns.
- 31:26So I'm going to be honest with you as well, but that it does
- 31:29the Browns, the Raiders, the very similar team this moment in
- 31:32time. But I I enjoyed them.
- 31:34I enjoy them and I try to say thank you to all the NFL teams,
- 31:37all the AFC teams just say for getting in touch with us and
- 31:40giving your super honest team reviews right now.
- 31:44Hey, guys, if you liked that, let's know.
- 31:46Let's know which one your favourite one as well in the
- 31:48comments below or on our socials ABNF pod across all your
- 31:51socials. By the way, let us know which
- 31:53one, which one your favourite were.
- 31:54And if you want to hear the NFC ones, I believe that they are on
- 31:57the, you know, the via carrier pigeon on e-mail coming over the
- 32:02the the the sea right now to us. So if you want to hear them next
- 32:06week, give us a shout, let us know.
- 32:08And yeah, it's sort of a bit of fun, a bit of light hearted
- 32:11while we move on. We move on with things from
- 32:13there now moving on to across the pond and to this side.
- 32:20And we want to talk a little bit about the British game.
- 32:24So the British game, brick ball buffer, British American
- 32:28Football Association is what is is known of.
- 32:31And across from there, he's very close to mine and Brad's heart.
- 32:35We've been involved with the sport for nearly eleven years
- 32:37this year now. And this this weekend is the the
- 32:40start of a new season. And I'll be honest with you,
- 32:44it's a really exciting time to be a part of buffer and just
- 32:49just the game as a whole within the UK, right.
- 32:54And the reason being is this last year there was for the
- 32:59first time in a good couple of years, to be quite honest with
- 33:01you, there was quite a major like divisional structure
- 33:05realignment. So we both, we've been in this
- 33:10ball with the sport, we've been in the same division for quite a
- 33:12few years now, aren't we are very similar division, shall I
- 33:15say for quite a good couple of years where maybe one or two
- 33:18team have just changed sort of chain between them.
- 33:20But like we've played this very same teams and now it's changed
- 33:25and there's been quite a big twist and turn in it.
- 33:28I just think it's going to look, it's exciting for this weekend.
- 33:31What are your thoughts on that, Brad?
- 33:33I just think it's for a lot of teams, you know, there's,
- 33:37there's been a few big scenarios across the league such as you
- 33:42know, 2 Premiership teams have disappeared so London Warriors
- 33:48withdrew from BAFA. So London Warriors, if you're
- 33:51sort of not involved in brick ball directly and you're not
- 33:55sort of in the know, they are quite consistently one of your
- 33:58top teams within the country and you know, countless titles.
- 34:04And they've basically, we've drawn from Baffa the the
- 34:08assumption, I don't know if it's officially confirmed yet or not,
- 34:10to be honest, but is that they're going to be playing in
- 34:12the European leagues or our European league because there's
- 34:16drama there as well, isn't there, with competing leagues.
- 34:19And then also Scunthorpe Alphas, who are a pretty new team
- 34:24actually, but have done really, really well and they've sort of
- 34:27been promoted. I think it was back-to-back,
- 34:30maybe I can't actually remember now, but they've folded.
- 34:34Oh, well, they've merged with Humber.
- 34:38They're they're folded in essence, I think really.
- 34:43But so with that, you get a lot of, you know, talent moving on
- 34:50to different teams in the area, which then shakes up the teams
- 34:53and adds extra spiciness there. And then, as you said, Zach,
- 34:56obviously some new league alignments and you know, look,
- 35:01we don't really closely cover brick ball in terms of like as a
- 35:04media or as like a like a podcast, for example.
- 35:08We are involved in it, you know, day-to-day, but we don't cover
- 35:11it as such. But it's quite interesting
- 35:13seeing some of those outlets that do cover specifically brick
- 35:17ball and, and the British game who and they do a great job.
- 35:21It's really interesting to see sort of the posts of like who's
- 35:24going to win this league, Who's going to win this league and the
- 35:26amount of variety of, of responses.
- 35:29And I think that's sort of shows how open the air the start of
- 35:34the season at least will be. There's always variety with
- 35:37Brick Ball anyway, but it it'll be interesting to see how it
- 35:40goes this first few weeks of game.
- 35:43Yeah, and yeah, and and in brick ball we don't a lot of the time
- 35:47you don't have you don't you won't have like a block of games
- 35:50back-to-back to back-to-back to back freezers.
- 35:52You might have two or three games back-to-back and then a
- 35:54big break. And you're going that way just
- 35:55just because of how the season aligns up and everything.
- 35:58And we're going to have a look at a minute at this weekend's
- 36:00schedules and just have a look to the website and and and see
- 36:02if any of them that kind of strike out to us.
- 36:05But as Brad said, some of the new matchups are there is is
- 36:09exciting and and I think as a whole, this, this moment, the
- 36:15the brick ball kind of media has got that level of like
- 36:19engagement, which I've never seen before.
- 36:22And it's so good to see. And do you know what's really
- 36:25good to see as well? That Division 2, the lower
- 36:29level, right Division 2 has is getting some of the most amount
- 36:33of interaction and engagement and conversation about it
- 36:36because it's because of the structural realignments.
- 36:39It's exciting to see. And that's always really nice
- 36:42because as you go up the the divisions, it becomes more and
- 36:47more kind of not serious as such, but just, you know, the
- 36:51the training multiple times a week and things that where you
- 36:53are more you are more city based teams there, because it's really
- 36:57good to see that across the entirety of the league
- 37:00alignment. It's getting that traction.
- 37:02And you know, the numbers are all an all time high with with
- 37:05player counts and everything. It's it's just so good to see as
- 37:08a whole. But let's just have a look right
- 37:10quickly here, But I'm just going to quickly Bob up on the screen
- 37:13now. If you if you again, if you're
- 37:15watching this here, head over to the our YouTube channel or
- 37:19Spotify. So we have the the schedule for
- 37:25this weekend and this weekend has got quite a a good number of
- 37:28games going across and just looking across this here with
- 37:34the Warriors not being the London team anymore, The first
- 37:37one that kind of strikes out to me this Prem S game, the Blitz
- 37:40and the Aztecs. Can the Blitz kind of emerge as
- 37:43that number one team in the city centre at this moment in time?
- 37:46Yeah, I mean, there was a period, what wasn't there like
- 37:49where it was sort of which team will win the season, Is it going
- 37:52to be Warriors or Blitz back and forth.
- 37:54But Bristol Aztecs are arguably you're sort of number one team
- 37:59at the minute, are definitely sort of, I think as far as
- 38:04general consensus goes, they're going into season as your
- 38:08favourite. So I think that'll be a real
- 38:11interesting game to see how that one comes out.
- 38:15Yeah. And and as well with this
- 38:18Premnarv and Prem staff, you've got two games in each in each
- 38:20one of them. And it's nicely a good chunk of
- 38:22games happening around and wherever you are in the country
- 38:25kind of getting to see them. The years killed Brian
- 38:27Nottingham that some travellers that I must admit tough away
- 38:32game first came a season, I'm not going to lie, but heading
- 38:34down there as well. It'll be it'll be a decent game
- 38:38just going through here as well. We have a couple of Division One
- 38:42games happening across across the field and there's just a one
- 38:45in each division from what we can see here And again, another
- 38:51London team being a London London Olympians.
- 38:53I believe for the newest London team.
- 38:56You see the mother Wembly styles that couldn't tell you off top
- 39:00of my head. Believe so.
- 39:03Yeah. So again, another another tough
- 39:05game there in Division One. But scrolling through here and
- 39:12getting down to we've got Division two now where another
- 39:15chunk of games are happening across and this is where the
- 39:18biggest kind of shift up has happened.
- 39:20And some of the newer team like the newer alignments are in
- 39:26there. It'd be interesting to see to
- 39:27see. So we've got Darlington and
- 39:28Humber be a real tough game that two people that we've faced in
- 39:31the past. Humber looking really strong
- 39:33this year as well. So that'd be a really good test
- 39:36for both teams. And I think on paper, Humber of
- 39:42the team to be in that division and I think everyone's going to
- 39:44be wanting to beat them just to kind of prove a point to the
- 39:48rest of of the division really. Yeah.
- 39:51I think for that, I think a lot of the talk about Humber, you
- 39:54know, they've the last couple of seasons, they've always been
- 39:57that sort of top end division two bottom end Division One sort
- 40:01of team that when we mentioned about the Alphas who've had some
- 40:04real good success recently, you know, they've merged with Humber
- 40:07now and. I think everyone's expecting
- 40:10them to have that sort of firepower, but as I say, like a
- 40:14lot of stuff changes year on year, so who knows?
- 40:17It's different coaching, coaching crew, although they've
- 40:22got some very good, well established coaches at Humber,
- 40:27Absolutely. So yeah, I think it's going to
- 40:29be an interesting one to see how that that division goes, to be
- 40:31honest. A. 100% and then we're Lincoln
- 40:34and and gates said to Gates are close friends of ours to be fair
- 40:39to you very strong game. They're looking forward to
- 40:41seeing the result of that. It's it's a shame we got we got
- 40:45a game this weekend. Otherwise it'd have been nice to
- 40:47go to go watch that. So that'd be a good game.
- 40:49Good test to see where the where the guys said that Midlands
- 40:54here, Bulls at Raiders. I don't want to give too much on
- 40:58that just for obvious reasons. But yeah, Bulls and Raiders be a
- 41:01be a good game to start off with the Bulls coming out of a strong
- 41:04team and an old Division One moving down to Division 2.
- 41:07So they've got a point to prove within that.
- 41:09And then you've got Rossendale and Doncaster.
- 41:12Now Rossendale, that bogey team no one knows much about because
- 41:15they are new to the the division.
- 41:18That would be an exciting kind of start off.
- 41:21They are, but they've had some good games in their associate
- 41:23leagues in their associate seasons and games.
- 41:25So I think they're a dark horse. I don't think anyone should be
- 41:29taking them for granted really. Mustangs have been around for a
- 41:34long time and they seem to have recruited well.
- 41:37They seem to have had a good pre season.
- 41:39So I think and you kind of see try not to be biassed here, but
- 41:43I guess the feedback's been very similar on your social medias
- 41:46and things. The the NFC 2 Midlands is the
- 41:48one probably that's had a good chunk of check, a good change
- 41:52amount of change. Sorry, I'll get my words out
- 41:54eventually. It's probably one of the more
- 41:57open divisions, I would say. So I think it's I think it's
- 42:02going to be a really exciting season.
- 42:04I do. I'm looking forward to to being
- 42:06a part of it and seeing the results of it.
- 42:08To be fair to you. Moving on to the Southern
- 42:12divisions now teams, I'm I'll be honest with you, I don't know
- 42:16much about we've got the Berkshire Raiders, Berkshire
- 42:18Raiders, sorry, and the Ewes Valley Eagles and Norwich Devils
- 42:21and Ipswich Cardinals. Couldn't tell you much about any
- 42:24of the teams to be quite honest with you.
- 42:26But hopefully if we came here, we can carry on this segment
- 42:29going forward. Just showing a little bit of the
- 42:30brick ball game. We can kind of follow on the
- 42:32teams and who's who, where's where type thing.
- 42:35It's not it's not a division we've ever been.
- 42:36You know, we're a part of our, our, our, you know, play the
- 42:41name of the teams really to be fair to you.
- 42:43One thing I can tell you is that Cornwall probably have early
- 42:48starts most Sundays. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:53We've actually, we've actually had a player join our team from
- 42:57Cornwall. So he's, he's in the military
- 42:59and he's he's moved up here now and we've got an early start for
- 43:04our or an earlier start than what we're normally used to on
- 43:08Sunday. And I remember chatting to me
- 43:10like, so how, how early is early?
- 43:11And I'm like, well, we'll probably be setting off about 7
- 43:13and half seven. And you're like, that's a lie
- 43:15in. The guy, yeah, but the guys
- 43:19come. The guys come from the now is
- 43:21his job. It quite requires an early
- 43:24start. So it probably is a lie in to
- 43:26him like, but yeah, that's that's brick ball in a nutshell.
- 43:30Just to touch, you know, with some little, little little bits
- 43:32about we're probably gonna get some shade for brushing over a
- 43:34certain team, in particular for our friends.
- 43:36But we're trying not to be biassed, all right?
- 43:39Because we're going to be biassed in a second.
- 43:41Because we're going to be moving on to our next favourite segment
- 43:45in just a second, which would be the I Can't Speak segment where
- 43:52we're talking all things rugby league.
- 43:57Yeah, This week was a Challenge Cup, mate.
- 44:01What did you do You watch any of the games first of all?
- 44:04I watched bits of a few that the main, the one that I did watch
- 44:11the vast majority of us, the Wakefield Wigan game and as you
- 44:14can probably see by the score is probably the game of the
- 44:17weekend. Now I don't want to sit here and
- 44:19say yes, it was because I didn't watch all of the others, but it
- 44:24was it was great. It was an absolute cracker and I
- 44:30think, you know, Wakefield were were leading I think to begin
- 44:34with. I tuned into it just a bit late
- 44:35so I didn't catch the beginning of it, but Wakefield were
- 44:39winning I believe. And then Wigan sort of came back
- 44:42and took the lead. But towards that last sort of
- 44:4420-30 minutes of the game, it was so tight and it was, there's
- 44:49a bit of biff going on there as well.
- 44:52Tempers were flaring. It was quite heated at times.
- 44:55It was just a good old school Challenge Cup game.
- 44:57But you know, I thought, I thought Wakefield were going to
- 45:00do it. I really did towards the back
- 45:02end of the game. But we're going to just, they
- 45:05just know how to close games out and they, yeah, they just
- 45:08managed. Yeah.
- 45:09So I. Didn't I didn't get a chance to
- 45:12watch a lot of the game just when we when we finished
- 45:15training actually on Saturday, two of the games running the
- 45:17club out after. So I got managed to watch a
- 45:18little bit there. But then afterwards I just had
- 45:20things on. So I didn't get managed to watch
- 45:22them live by car with a little bit of it online and just a few
- 45:26of the highlights and one thing that kind of shown out to me
- 45:29with a whole KR, you're getting out whole KR haven't played very
- 45:31well this year. It's no secret they haven't come
- 45:33out firing like they have done in the past.
- 45:35They haven't come out looking at the team that they have done in
- 45:37the past. That being said, York have taken
- 45:41a sharp decline after the first couple of weeks, three or four
- 45:45week of the season where they looked like a really good team
- 45:47coming up and they looked like they were going to be competing
- 45:49with the best of the best this year.
- 45:51And they've taken that decline. And watching the start of I'm
- 45:55pretty sure it was yourself that I said it to in the clubhouse
- 45:58watching the start of that game, I turn around thing.
- 46:01I said, OK, I was going to put 100 pastor mayor.
- 46:04And I was surprised when York scored because it it looked like
- 46:09that lock lane game which we spoke about when they got bet by
- 46:14100 points he started looking at to start off with.
- 46:17That's probably probably giving York quite a bit of disrespect
- 46:21to them, but they just didn't look like the team that they
- 46:23were at the start of the season and is fatigue kicking into that
- 46:28starting set now that the struggling with much fitness at
- 46:35this level consistently. And that's what strikes to me
- 46:38when the, you know, 48 and taking nothing away from OK,
- 46:40Ari, OK, I played well. OK, I looked like the OK R of
- 46:44last year. Is it too late to be getting
- 46:46into that form now with how good we can just look?
- 46:49Maybe. I think, I think the thing we
- 46:51call KR is, if we're honest, I think they were probably
- 46:53distracted with the other games that they had going on.
- 46:57You know, they had the the World Club Challenge, they had the
- 47:01Vegas game and I think that was probably just a distraction for
- 47:08them to be honest. So I think they're probably just
- 47:12finding their feet now and they're just sort of where they
- 47:15need to be. They they put on a show in the
- 47:19New York just couldn't quite compete.
- 47:21But I think, you know, next round, the semi finals are going
- 47:24to be some real good games I think.
- 47:27So you've got Saints and Warriors on the 9th of May,
- 47:31that's Saint Helens against Wigan and you've got Warrington
- 47:34Wolves against Hulk AR on the 10th of May.
- 47:38So a nice little weekend there for the semi finals.
- 47:42I'll definitely be tuning into those because they always tend
- 47:44to be good games. Arguably a lot of time they're
- 47:46better than the finals, which is just no different to like the
- 47:49NFL. Is it?
- 47:50You know, I think the the conference championships are
- 47:53normally better than the Super Bowl, so and I think the
- 47:57division games are sometimes even better than the conference
- 47:59championships. So I don't think it's too
- 48:02different, but probably the right four teams to be there, if
- 48:07we're really honest. They're based on current form.
- 48:10Hulk out of that anomaly, maybe, but they're showing that they're
- 48:14where they need to be at the minute.
- 48:17I mean, going into the going into the, you know, start of the
- 48:21season as such, if you were going to put four teams into the
- 48:23you're going to put four teams into, into the semi finals, then
- 48:30it you won't, you won't get great odds back in these four
- 48:35because they're probably 4 of the favourites. 2 games in there
- 48:38and it's no surprise. Has the semi final draw been
- 48:41released yet? Who's playing who?
- 48:46Give me word mate. Sorry yeah the the semi final is
- 48:52what I've just gone through. Oh, do you know what I think
- 48:55we'll talk about the next 4 game into in in their schedule.
- 48:58That is my but I wish we're we're paying attention to.
- 49:03Thanks mate, you must have been distracted by researcher Cal
- 49:06actually surfacing his head and turning up to our show finally.
- 49:11He's he's he's actually here. Can you believe it?
- 49:14I still can't find a cattle dignity for his head, so all I
- 49:16can see is his eyes. But yeah, it's he's back.
- 49:20Easy. It was a good game.
- 49:21Just go recap the scores. Right?
- 49:23Quickly saying 36. Catalan's four.
- 49:25OK. R 48.
- 49:26York 10. Water and 24.
- 49:28Lee 10. Wakefield 26.
- 49:30Wigan 20. That's right.
- 49:32Wakefield 22. Wigan 26 so an All in all a good
- 49:36stellar week for rugby getting back into the season the the
- 49:40regular season next week. So we'll have more games kind of
- 49:42go through and just touch on and digest from there going into the
- 49:47season though as well. Let's know what you think about.
- 49:49I can't speak if there's anything that you want us to
- 49:52talk more about with it as well. When it comes down to it, you
- 49:54know, we're brushing on all the games.
- 49:56Would you rather us do feature games rather than touching them
- 49:58all? You let us know.
- 49:59We want to know what your views are.
- 50:01You could do that by hitting the socials all over at YouTube and
- 50:05our balls know, fill up podcasts on YouTube, Spotify, Yeah, Apple
- 50:08Music and all that jazz. Or at ABNF pod across all of
- 50:12your socials, Right. Then it's time, I believe, for
- 50:18Carl's conundrum, Right? And we gain.
- 50:22We, we, we, we're flying through this.
- 50:24And sorry, it's not. No, it's not a lie.
- 50:27A lie. I would not look at the rice
- 50:29right by the scripts there, Sir. My head's all over the place.
- 50:32Carl's really thrown me off here.
- 50:35We're getting into all the balls.
- 50:36We get into all of the balls. I can read, I can read.
- 50:40Touch it on all of the balls. Brad, do me a favour, save me.
- 50:44What's all of the balls? I think I need to save you this
- 50:4710. Jeez.
- 50:49Oh, we'll see if we can be bothered editing this in post or
- 50:52not. All of the balls is where we
- 50:56touch on the wider world of sport.
- 50:59As you know, rugby league is sort of a main feature now, but
- 51:03we'll touch on other games, other sporting games, other ball
- 51:08games, whatever you want to call them, that's happening around
- 51:12the world. We've had a couple of quiet
- 51:13weeks, but I think this one, we've got a good couple of
- 51:16stories or two to touch on. Zach, do you want to take us
- 51:19through the first one or two? Yeah.
- 51:22So Rory McIlroy has won the Masters defending his title.
- 51:26Now I'm going to say some stats here that are could be in the
- 51:30feature stats that could be fake because I, I don't trust myself
- 51:33for what I'm saying here, but I'm pretty sure as well, I've
- 51:35seen back-to-back titles for Rory coming into this, the
- 51:39Masters as well as he's one of like 3 or 4 people that I've
- 51:45done this. I think he's the 4th.
- 51:48I think he's the 4th person. To to win back-to-back and he's
- 51:53earnings. I saw something about his
- 51:55earnings and where that if I was just asking research Cal to try
- 51:58and grab it right quickly. He's earnings at the masters
- 52:00over the past. I think he's 4 attempts he's
- 52:03been there were like a couple of 100,000 a couple of 100,004
- 52:09million, 4 million like his his earnings just from the Masters
- 52:15alone have been ridiculous and he's he's in fact there was
- 52:22there was a start. I saw a bit of a golf NFL clash
- 52:28and it was Rory Mcilroy's managed to win back-to-back
- 52:30Masters in the time that The Jets have still not got an
- 52:33interception. So I did see that.
- 52:37Which is which is fantastic. He's the first person since
- 52:39Tiger was to win. It went back-to-back, which is
- 52:41absolutely great. And you know what, credit where
- 52:43crazy is making golf exciting again.
- 52:44He's come back in some form. He dropped a bit of form a
- 52:46couple of years back and well, I say dropped a bit of form.
- 52:49Still a fantastic golfer, but just weren't at that top of his
- 52:51game. Now he, he's just looking like
- 52:54he's out there having fun, which is which is all good to see.
- 52:57We then move on to the Grand National, a very controversial
- 53:02horse race. A lot of horses run around a
- 53:06lot. A lot don't make it to the end
- 53:09because the fall over, you know, not no other reason but the fall
- 53:13over. As such, this one though the
- 53:16favourite wins, which is very rare actually for the National
- 53:20and it's the second time he's won it but won the National
- 53:25shall I say. But I watch this at home as you
- 53:28do. I'm a Fairweather horse racing
- 53:31fan. I'll watch the big races.
- 53:32I don't mind going to the races things that but I'm not an avid
- 53:34week in week out watcher. What got me this year is it just
- 53:37seemed there are a lot more rogue horses now.
- 53:40A horse will fall, plenty of horses falling in the National.
- 53:43But with this one there just seems to be a lot more getting
- 53:45in the way without a jockey. Like a joculous horse and it it
- 53:51were just one of them where bad to say but it added the
- 53:56excitement because it up that danger level.
- 54:00But just want to cover my own back here.
- 54:02The knives are going to be coming out for you mate.
- 54:05This episode in particular, just want to cover my own back here.
- 54:09It adds the excitement because the dangers and the jockey.
- 54:12I don't want any harm to come. I don't want any harm to come to
- 54:14the masses because you know, I'm just going to stop back
- 54:17pedalling. If like what's your view on the
- 54:20on the National? I don't care about the jockeys,
- 54:22I just care about the horses. Lovely.
- 54:24I'm trying to get Peter on my side.
- 54:25You know what I mean? Because they're the ones that
- 54:27are going to come and stab me. Animal welfare.
- 54:31Yeah. I mean, look, it's it's a
- 54:33difficult one in it because look, we know there's a lot of
- 54:37controversy, but on the flip side, there's been horse racing
- 54:40around for a very, very long time.
- 54:42You know, you could say the same thing about alcohol.
- 54:43Like if alcohol was a new thing, it'd be banned.
- 54:45It wouldn't be legal, but it has been around for a long time.
- 54:48It, I'm not going to get into the politics of that, but I am
- 54:50Maximus. So winning it for the second
- 54:53time, he is, I believe, the first horse since Red Rum to
- 55:00regain his title, if I am not mistaken.
- 55:03Obviously quite a big name there.
- 55:06So yeah, winning it's second Grand National, so well done to
- 55:10I am Maximus, the horse and his trainers and the jockey.
- 55:13I won't pretend to know all the names because I don't, but there
- 55:19you go. Breaking News Breaking News
- 55:26Diana Rush Diana Rossini, who we spoke about at the start,
- 55:30announces her retirement from The Athletic.
- 55:33Resignation I'll. Say breaking news but yeah so
- 55:36yeah but yeah I got my head you still at least that I apologise
- 55:41right now I am I am got since you've quit call this were flaws
- 55:44until you came. In yeah, you started so well.
- 55:47To be fair, you even pronounced her name right earlier.
- 55:51Well, Speaking of of pronunciation, we're going to
- 55:56get into the story. The third story, you're getting
- 55:583 Oliver Balls and Brad. You're going to take this one
- 56:01for obvious reasons, in about 6 words time.
- 56:06Yeah, so Saxon Fury and he made his millionth comeback, a
- 56:14successful comeback, beating Makhmodov, Makhmodov in a
- 56:20unanimous decision over 12 rounds.
- 56:23So it was I'd say it was a bloodbath.
- 56:26It wasn't because I don't know if you watched it or not, Zach,
- 56:28but he he just played with him, didn't he?
- 56:31And like, it was just comfortable the whole way
- 56:35through. And it was, you know, I like
- 56:37Fury. I used to hate him.
- 56:39I don't know why. I just really hated him at one
- 56:41point. And then he just really grew on
- 56:42me and grew on me. And now I really love him.
- 56:44Like, he's hilarious. I think, you know, it's got he's
- 56:48just got this character, but still at what, 37 or 3837?
- 56:55You know, he's still fast on his feet.
- 56:56He can still move for a big boy and his hands are quick.
- 56:59Like he has got some skills there.
- 57:01And he just, it was like, I don't know, it's so lopsided.
- 57:05And I think he could have had him knocked out way earlier in
- 57:09the in the the fight, but it was just getting those rounds under
- 57:12his belt, wasn't it? Yeah, we had we had some friends
- 57:14around watching the fight that night and I'm again fair where
- 57:18the fighting fan. I'll watch the big fight.
- 57:21So I'm not going to stand there and tell you that I'll watch
- 57:22week in week out, but it would just it got to a point where I'm
- 57:26like, we just end this now and you could tell that we're using
- 57:30it. It'll basically getting paid
- 57:31like 8 mill or whatever he got got paid for it to have a
- 57:35sparring match because he would just utilise the new things.
- 57:39And then the biggest thing for me were that cringe WWE ending.
- 57:47You dosser, I'm pretty Joshua, I want you you there and then I'm
- 57:53for his late sat there, even though the you know, Netflix had
- 57:56already announced that the fate and in in in August or whatever.
- 58:00You're the one that keeps you're the one that keeps, you know,
- 58:05not sending it contract or not. It's like, mate, come on, just
- 58:08we don't need the theatrical side of it.
- 58:10They it's got no I, you know. It was silly.
- 58:16It was just ridiculous, wasn't it?
- 58:18Like, but I mean that's part of his character though as well.
- 58:21But I thought Joshua was cringe after it.
- 58:23It was just the whole thing was cringe.
- 58:26No, it got me right and I don't think they've realised it was
- 58:29televised as in Fury and AJ. So the the fight finishes and
- 58:34Fury leans over before the before they announced the
- 58:37winner, the fight finish and Fury's talk.
- 58:39They're talking to each other. It's like feels like come on in
- 58:42and age is like no, and this is your night.
- 58:43Just enjoy the night. Like have some respect for your
- 58:46opponent. It's your you 2GO there and do
- 58:48it and and Fury's like no no, no man, come on in, come in.
- 58:51And then 5 minutes later it's the screaming age.
- 58:54You remember Rose. You try to sell.
- 58:56We know you try to sell the fight.
- 58:58I think that was probably part of the cell there, wasn't it?
- 59:00I think he wanted him in the ring so they could do the whole,
- 59:03you know, face off sort of thing.
- 59:05And it's just it's it is so showy.
- 59:07Is it? Yeah.
- 59:08I mean, don't get me wrong, it's the fight.
- 59:10I'll watch it and it'll probably be one of the biggest standing
- 59:12fights in Britain for a long time.
- 59:14But it's, yeah, I don't know. Who do you think could win?
- 59:23Right, if it goes distance, Fury, if It's A Knockout, AJ,
- 59:26that'd be my that'd be my my view on it.
- 59:28I think I think Tyson is too skilled of a of a just getting
- 59:34them quick jabs in. But at the same time, I think I
- 59:38think Fury can. And so I think AJ can can can
- 59:44pack in that punch. I really do.
- 59:46And I know neither of them in the reggae.
- 59:48What the what it would have been five years ago, this would have
- 59:50been a mega, mega fight. This would have been unreal,
- 59:55unreal in a fight. But yeah.
- 59:59I think it's a good bit of marketing as well that you had
- 1:00:02the Fury comeback fight on the Saturday and then on the Sunday
- 1:00:05Netflix were releasing at home with the Furious Season 2.
- 1:00:09Then it's now on #1. Yeah, I mean, to be fair, I
- 1:00:11watched the first season. I quite enjoyed it.
- 1:00:13I will watch the second season, I'm not going to lie to you.
- 1:00:15But yeah, good bit of marketing, wasn't it?
- 1:00:19Of course, they know what they're doing down there.
- 1:00:20Well, that's our all the balls for this week.
- 1:00:23We'd give you 3 three balls this week you.
- 1:00:26Lucky buggers. You lucky, lucky buggers.
- 1:00:30We're going to move on to Carl's Conundrum for this week and for
- 1:00:35last week, so we get to get touched into this now.
- 1:00:41I struggled because I had a mind blanket and not very often often
- 1:00:45happens as you can tell that with with this one, I just it
- 1:00:50would only it would just in your head.
- 1:00:52I could not think it would save my life.
- 1:00:54But let's let's let's recap over this again.
- 1:00:56And it was who was the only player to score a rushing
- 1:00:59touchdown, receiving touchdown and a kick return in the same
- 1:01:02NFL playoff game. Now, I realised a couple of days
- 1:01:09after that I mistakenly put all my thought into Super Bowl.
- 1:01:14And I'm trying to think like, when has this happened in a
- 1:01:16Super Bowl? I can't think of this happening
- 1:01:18in a Super Bowl. And I was trying to go back to
- 1:01:20like, you know, peak Patriots time because I thought it'd be
- 1:01:26kind of aimed on that down that route.
- 1:01:27And I'm like, I just think to save my life.
- 1:01:32But yeah, the answer was Brad. Dionne Lewis and that was
- 1:01:37against Houston in the 2016 slash 17 divisional Round.
- 1:01:43Yeah, so, you know, I I enjoyed that without without war.
- 1:01:46The first coming during a couple of days that really stuck to me
- 1:01:50that we're trying to a lot of them for me.
- 1:01:52I'm well, going to be honest, not very smart.
- 1:01:56Second time I've I've I've made it this this this pod, right.
- 1:01:59So a lot of them are just like, yeah, I don't know this move on.
- 1:02:02This one really kind of started playing in my mind.
- 1:02:05But as always, if you got it well done.
- 1:02:08Happy days. Thank you very much for taking
