- 2:17Speaker 2: Emily York, Dick Powell, Joe Parks, Will Persons, Ron Edsin
- 2:23Speaker 2: was yesterday, which, of course I forgot all about. Actually,
- 2:28Speaker 2: wait a minute, yesterday was was yesterday?
- 2:33Speaker 3: Was yesterday?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Thursday? I was off yesterday, but I'm back. Winter weather
- 2:40Speaker 2: advisory until two pm Sunday? Is I think when that
- 2:47Speaker 2: winter weather advisory expires for mixed precipitation three to seven
- 2:53Speaker 2: inches with ice accumulation, and the National Weather Service is
- 3:00Speaker 2: in Burlington is saying the advisory could be changing to
- 3:04Speaker 2: a warning and it's actually likely that it will tonight.
- 3:12Speaker 2: It all starts tonight, yes eight PMSH with the heaviest
- 3:17Speaker 2: snow and ice into the day. On Saturday. Saturday, it
- 3:22Speaker 2: continues heavy at times, and Sunday things are going to
- 3:26Speaker 2: wind down, but still additional accumulations can be expected Monday
- 3:32Speaker 2: as we look ahead here backside of the weekend and
- 3:36Speaker 2: final day of March, showers and fifty seven degrees. Yes, Valerie,
- 3:46Speaker 2: I'm early this morning, and I'll tell you why, because
- 3:50Speaker 2: there's so much going on. And we're gonna chat with
- 3:55Speaker 2: Chrissy here in just a little bit. Christy Searles, who
- 3:59Speaker 2: is helping to organize this big rally in Barrie tomorrow,
- 4:04Speaker 2: We're going to chat with her in just a few minutes.
- 4:07Speaker 2: But I don't know if you saw yesterday, this is buzz.
- 4:11Speaker 2: This has exploded on Facebook everywhere. The VT Coyotes just
- 4:19Speaker 2: made the announcement of their first official player on the
- 4:25Speaker 2: roster for the team. It has been decided the press
- 4:30Speaker 2: conference is set for April fourth at the Barry Auditorium.
- 4:35Speaker 2: That's next Friday at five pm. Jose Ortez, Welcome to
- 4:43Speaker 2: the Coyotes. Welcome to Vermont. It is an absolute pleasure
- 4:50Speaker 2: to have you as part of the Green Mountain State
- 4:54Speaker 2: VT Coyotes. Where are you from? Tell us a little
- 4:58Speaker 2: bit about you? Where are you from and all that
- 5:01Speaker 2: good stuff.
- 5:03Speaker 4: I was born in New York, raised in Philadelphia basically
- 5:07Speaker 4: all my life.
- 5:08Speaker 2: You were quite the high school ballplayer, right, Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 4: I actually got my jersey retired in my high school.
- 5:17Speaker 4: And my high school had over twenty Division one players
- 5:23Speaker 4: over the years. And it hasn't been around that long either.
- 5:27Speaker 4: It's actually it's closed down now, but yeah, it was
- 5:31Speaker 4: a high school that was around probably like ten fifteen years.
- 5:34Speaker 2: What happened after high school, I had a lot.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Of Division one offers. I end up touring my ACL
- 5:40Speaker 4: which set me back. So I ended up dropping from
- 5:44Speaker 4: a Division one athlete to a Division two athlete. I
- 5:47Speaker 4: went to college, I ended up playing Division two. Then
- 5:52Speaker 4: I transferred a couple of times, transferred two times, end
- 5:55Speaker 4: up going to a Division III school that was literally
- 6:00Speaker 4: ten minutes for my house, which is the only reason
- 6:02Speaker 4: why I went there. But you know, I ended up
- 6:04Speaker 4: liking the school, and I decided not to go back
- 6:07Speaker 4: to the Division two level and just finish out my
- 6:09Speaker 4: last two years of college playing at the school I
- 6:12Speaker 4: was at, which was only ten minutes. So it just
- 6:14Speaker 4: it worked out for me.
- 6:16Speaker 2: You traveled around the world playing basketball.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Correct, And this is how I pay the bills. This
- 6:21Speaker 4: is how you know I'll make a living for myself
- 6:24Speaker 4: after college. I ended up, you know, making a highlight
- 6:28Speaker 4: tape of my college season. I got lucky enough to
- 6:32Speaker 4: get an agent and he gave me my first opportunity
- 6:35Speaker 4: in Mexico. I ended up going to Mexico. I ended
- 6:39Speaker 4: up having a good season from there. It was like
- 6:41Speaker 4: a domino effect.
- 6:42Speaker 3: You know.
- 6:42Speaker 4: I played one good season in Mexico. Then other countries
- 6:46Speaker 4: started calling me. You know, that's just how it is.
- 6:48Speaker 4: You know, you have a good season and word gets
- 6:51Speaker 4: around town and people started hearing your name, and other
- 6:55Speaker 4: country started seeing what you're doing. Because you know, everything
- 6:58Speaker 4: is posted online, so the numbers are there for you
- 7:01Speaker 4: to see. And you know, they just started calling my
- 7:03Speaker 4: agent and started calling me. So, you know, from Mexico,
- 7:06Speaker 4: my courage is opened up. And I ended up playing
- 7:08Speaker 4: in ten different countries ever since.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I'm seeing here the list you get. We got China,
- 7:13Speaker 2: El Salvador, Nicaragua.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Yeah, Nicaragua, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, obviously, the States. I
- 7:23Speaker 4: went to Europe. I was in Germany. You know, I've been,
- 7:27Speaker 4: I've been, I've been around, I've been around. I was
- 7:29Speaker 4: in Bolivia, Argentina. So you know, I've been I've been around,
- 7:33Speaker 4: I've been around the block. As you can.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Say, I'm guessing that this is kind of the inception
- 7:39Speaker 2: of your professional basketball career.
- 7:42Speaker 4: This is uh, you're talking to a ten year vet
- 7:45Speaker 4: that's thirty four years old, will be thirty five next
- 7:48Speaker 4: season when it's when the league starts. So you're talking
- 7:51Speaker 4: to a veteran that basically the only thing I did
- 7:54Speaker 4: do was make it to the NBA. You know, I
- 7:56Speaker 4: didn't played in all types of levels overseas professionally, from
- 7:59Speaker 4: the high level to the low level. You know, I
- 8:02Speaker 4: didn't played in basically leagues that I already wanted to
- 8:05Speaker 4: play in growing up. You know, a dream of mine's
- 8:07Speaker 4: was to play overseas. It was never to play in
- 8:09Speaker 4: the NBA. I just wanted to travel the world. I
- 8:11Speaker 4: wanted to, you know, meet new people. I wanted to
- 8:14Speaker 4: get out of Philadelphia and see what the world had
- 8:17Speaker 4: to offer. My dream growing up, literally since I was
- 8:20Speaker 4: a kid, was to play overseas. And I figured, you know,
- 8:22Speaker 4: I had a ten year career. It's my tenth year now,
- 8:26Speaker 4: already been in ten countries. You know, obviously there's a
- 8:29Speaker 4: lot more other countries I've ever been through.
- 8:31Speaker 2: But I take my resume and now you are headed
- 8:35Speaker 2: from Philadelphia to the North.
- 8:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:38Speaker 4: I mean Vermon is like a second home for me.
- 8:42Speaker 4: You know, I'm gonna give you a little history. I
- 8:43Speaker 4: got Vermont. Actually I was going to go to Vermont
- 8:48Speaker 4: in college. You know, Andy is a childhood friend that
- 8:51Speaker 4: I that I met playing basketball. I actually try to
- 8:54Speaker 4: get him to come to my high school, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 4: without even really meeting him in person, because just the
- 8:58Speaker 4: numbers he was pulling up was amazing, and so I
- 9:00Speaker 4: try to get him become his senior year. I met
- 9:03Speaker 4: him his senior year of high school. Then you know,
- 9:06Speaker 4: we end up playing against each other things like that.
- 9:08Speaker 4: He end up going to Vermia, end up going to
- 9:11Speaker 4: school in Philadelphia. He was trying to get me to
- 9:14Speaker 4: go to remind play with him in college. It didn't
- 9:16Speaker 4: work out, just like it didn't work out with him
- 9:18Speaker 4: coming to my high school. And it's just crazy because
- 9:21Speaker 4: I used to always go to Vermont every summer, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 4: just to visit him, and just you know, I have
- 9:25Speaker 4: a couple of friends out there that I end up
- 9:28Speaker 4: you know, getting close with, So you know, I was
- 9:31Speaker 4: always in Vermont, and you know, Andy has his tournaments
- 9:33Speaker 4: that he runs. He's been running there for about what
- 9:36Speaker 4: ten years now. You know, I used to always go
- 9:37Speaker 4: to his tournaments and play. You know, it's a good
- 9:40Speaker 4: tournament to go and compete, So you know, Vermont is
- 9:43Speaker 4: definitely like a second home. You know. I'm not new
- 9:46Speaker 4: to Vermont, and that's why I'm excited too, because I'm
- 9:50Speaker 4: excited to go back to a place that you know,
- 9:53Speaker 4: I'm used to to go, and I haven't been there
- 9:55Speaker 4: a long time, you know, over like maybe four years,
- 9:58Speaker 4: you know, because of my my crazy schedule going around
- 10:01Speaker 4: the world, and you know, whenever I'm not playing, I'm
- 10:03Speaker 4: just focused on being home with my family and kids,
- 10:05Speaker 4: you know, because obviously when i'm overseas, i'm not I'm
- 10:08Speaker 4: missing that time of spending time with them. I don't
- 10:11Speaker 4: get that with them. You know, face time ain't the
- 10:13Speaker 4: same in person. So you know, when I'm home, it's
- 10:16Speaker 4: just strictly family, you know. And then when I'm not home,
- 10:20Speaker 4: obviously I'm working. So you know, I mean, I know
- 10:23Speaker 4: Andy for a while and I feel like, you know,
- 10:25Speaker 4: it's like everything comes to full circle. You know. I
- 10:28Speaker 4: was trying to get him to my high school. He
- 10:29Speaker 4: didn't come to try to give me to his college.
- 10:31Speaker 4: You know, fortunately I didn't go. And well now we're here.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Yeah, man, this is a real honor for us. And
- 10:40Speaker 2: how excited are we to be announcing the very first
- 10:44Speaker 2: official player of the VT Coyotes. This is amazing.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Oh, it's a blessing. It's a blessing. You know. I
- 10:52Speaker 4: appreciate first and foremost opportunity that that Anthony Andy, you know,
- 10:57Speaker 4: and the and the whole teams given me, because I
- 11:00Speaker 4: know that this is not just something that you should
- 11:03Speaker 4: take lightly. You know, with this comes a big responsibility.
- 11:07Speaker 4: You know, I'm coming in here to not only have
- 11:10Speaker 4: an impact, but to lead this team, you know, for
- 11:14Speaker 4: first year. You know, it's about winning with me. You know,
- 11:17Speaker 4: I'm a veteran. You know, I don't have the resume.
- 11:20Speaker 4: I have to just come and play, you know, like
- 11:24Speaker 4: you said, what makes me want to play in this league?
- 11:27Speaker 4: This will be the first time I'm in this league.
- 11:28Speaker 4: This will be the first time I get to play
- 11:30Speaker 4: in the States. I've been playing ten the last ten
- 11:32Speaker 4: years overseas, and it's hard for my family to watch
- 11:35Speaker 4: me play. I mean, they watch me on TV and
- 11:37Speaker 4: things like that, but it's not the same being in person.
- 11:40Speaker 4: So this gives me an opportunity for my family to
- 11:42Speaker 4: come watch me play, for me to start a different.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Chapter in my career.
- 11:47Speaker 4: You know, I'm I got another four or five more
- 11:49Speaker 4: years easily, but unfortunately, I don't want to play four
- 11:52Speaker 4: or five more years. I think that I got a
- 11:55Speaker 4: couple more years in me and I just wanted to
- 11:58Speaker 4: take a break from the overseas life and experience something different,
- 12:03Speaker 4: something new. The ABA is a great league, has a
- 12:06Speaker 4: great history behind it. You know, I have a lot
- 12:09Speaker 4: of friends that play in the ABA. I never got
- 12:11Speaker 4: to play in the ABA, obviously because I play overseas.
- 12:14Speaker 4: But you know, I'm excited. I'm excited for this opportunity.
- 12:17Speaker 4: I'm excited to lead this team. And it's whatever I
- 12:20Speaker 4: could do is I don't necessarily got to do with scoring.
- 12:23Speaker 4: You know, that's the best part of my game. But
- 12:25Speaker 4: I'm the type of player that's going to do whatever
- 12:27Speaker 4: it's necessary to win. You know, maybe one game I
- 12:30Speaker 4: only got to score ten points, but then maybe I
- 12:32Speaker 4: have to stop the best play on the other team,
- 12:35Speaker 4: or rebound the ball, or you know, be a playmaker.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Whatever the game dictates for us to win. That's what
- 12:42Speaker 4: I'm gonna do, you know, And I'm excited. I can't wait.
- 12:45Speaker 4: You know, I wish it was starting tomorrow, but I
- 12:49Speaker 4: feel like it's gonna be something good that's coming up.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Jose, Welcome to the ABA, Welcome to Fremont. I can't
- 12:57Speaker 2: wait to meet you.
- 12:58Speaker 4: I appreciate you, my brother. I can't wait to get
- 13:01Speaker 4: this ball rolling. I can't wait to build this relationship
- 13:04Speaker 4: with you. I know we're gonna have, you know, a
- 13:06Speaker 4: couple of little things coming up in the future. So uh,
- 13:10Speaker 4: I mean, it's gonna it's gonna be fun. We're gonna
- 13:12Speaker 4: have a ball. It's gonna be a great season to remember,
- 13:15Speaker 4: and you know we're gonna enjoy ourselves. Thank you, brother,
- 13:18Speaker 4: I appreciate you.
- 13:19Speaker 6: Man.
- 13:19Speaker 4: You have a great day. Man, And once again, man,
- 13:21Speaker 4: thank you for this opportunity.
- 13:24Speaker 2: What an honor to have him on.
- 13:26Speaker 6: Wow.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Man, I just uh, I can't wait. And I know
- 13:30Speaker 2: we we went a few minutes early this morning, uh
- 13:34Speaker 2: to squeeze Jose on. But man, I can't wait to
- 13:37Speaker 2: meet him. And do not forget a week from today.
- 13:42Speaker 2: The fourth is gonna be that press release at the
- 13:45Speaker 2: the press conference, I should say at the very auditorium.
- 13:48Speaker 2: It's gonna be amazing shifting gears. We have a community
- 13:54Speaker 2: rally that is going to be taking place tomorrow. I
- 13:57Speaker 2: know that you have heard the the CVMC support Bargaining
- 14:02Speaker 2: team on the air with me in the past. I
- 14:06Speaker 2: think Zoe has been on with us in the past.
- 14:09Speaker 2: But this morning, Chrissy Searles joins us. Good morning, Chrissy,
- 14:14Speaker 2: good morning.
- 14:15Speaker 5: How are you doing.
- 14:15Speaker 2: JD doing very well. Listen, this is such an important
- 14:20Speaker 2: event tomorrow. It takes place at noon at City Hall Park.
- 14:24Speaker 2: This is an opportunity for our community to come out
- 14:29Speaker 2: and wear some red and show their support for so
- 14:36Speaker 2: many staff members up at CVMC. What's what's going on?
- 14:39Speaker 2: What is this all about?
- 14:41Speaker 3: So we have just you know, established our union in
- 14:44Speaker 3: the past six months and we're in the middle of
- 14:47Speaker 3: bargaining still our contract and coming up with a fair contract.
- 14:51Speaker 3: It's it has to do with wages. It has to
- 14:54Speaker 3: do with you know, livable wages. It has to do
- 14:57Speaker 3: with safe staffing ratios, workplace violence issues. You know, we
- 15:05Speaker 3: proposed like having days off for when you've been experienced
- 15:11Speaker 3: violence at work, all these things. But we we need
- 15:13Speaker 3: the community support right now. You know, management still hasn't
- 15:18Speaker 3: really met us where we need them to meet us.
- 15:21Speaker 3: And so yeah, so we're having a rally and we'd
- 15:23Speaker 3: love for everybody to come out and support us.
- 15:27Speaker 2: This is not the first rally, right, No, we had
- 15:33Speaker 2: we had a.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Honkin wave, but at the hospital we've done several things.
- 15:38Speaker 2: But this is uh, yeah, that that that Honkin' wave.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I wasn't able to be there for that, but I
- 15:47Speaker 2: heard that it was tremendous.
- 15:50Speaker 3: It was we we we started the honkin wave for
- 15:55Speaker 3: when they decided to shut down our in patient psychiatry unit,
- 16:00Speaker 3: which really stinks for our community members.
- 16:03Speaker 5: That utilize that. Still, uh, it's still really a hard
- 16:08Speaker 5: pill to swallow. That's a lot more.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a lot more than than it stinks. That's
- 16:14Speaker 2: like really bad. That's super super super unfortunate.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Absolutely absolutely.
- 16:21Speaker 3: We have a lot of people that suffered for mental
- 16:22Speaker 3: health in our community and you know, they need support
- 16:25Speaker 3: and just never understood taking those supports away.
- 16:29Speaker 5: Yeah, it's yeah, we had a good turnout.
- 16:32Speaker 2: It's it's it's about wages, it's about safe staffing, ratios.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I mean, listen, this is our this is our hospital
- 16:44Speaker 2: right here in our backyard. And yes there's often some
- 16:48Speaker 2: runs to UVM, there's often runs over to Dartmouth. But
- 16:55Speaker 2: when when there's a real serious problem we need to go,
- 17:01Speaker 2: we need to stay right here in our backyard.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:05Speaker 5: Yeah, Now we need to pay people, you know, livable wages.
- 17:08Speaker 3: You know, people are busting their butts and and not
- 17:12Speaker 3: making ends meet, you know, if you have to scramble
- 17:15Speaker 3: to be able to you know, I get that things
- 17:18Speaker 3: are expensive, but if you if you're working at our
- 17:20Speaker 3: community hospital, you should be paid accordingly, you know, dealing
- 17:24Speaker 3: with people's lives on a regular and and to not
- 17:27Speaker 3: make enough and have to worry about where your groceries
- 17:29Speaker 3: are coming from or whether to pay your your power bill,
- 17:31Speaker 3: which everyone's gonna hold out.
- 17:34Speaker 5: You know, that's it shouldn't be. That shouldn't be a question.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Green Mountain. Uh what is it? The the careboard? Right?
- 17:41Speaker 5: Yep?
- 17:42Speaker 3: What?
- 17:42Speaker 4: What?
- 17:42Speaker 2: What are they saying? Chrissy?
- 17:45Speaker 3: You know, I don't really get into a whole lot
- 17:48Speaker 3: of stuff with the Green Mountain Careboard.
- 17:51Speaker 5: It's more technical stuff, to be honest with you. They
- 17:54Speaker 5: I think they're you know, from what I've read, they feel.
- 17:57Speaker 3: That uh, you know, we we do deserve things, but
- 18:02Speaker 3: they they have a lot of uh information about the
- 18:05Speaker 3: fiscal year budgets.
- 18:06Speaker 5: And stuff that I don't. I don't really have a
- 18:08Speaker 5: lot of information, you know.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I And I know that you've you've heard a lot
- 18:14Speaker 2: of devil's advocacy here that there's there's always two sides
- 18:19Speaker 2: to the coin here, and I note that that. Listen.
- 18:26Speaker 2: I know that we're kind of hitting a bee's nest here.
- 18:29Speaker 2: But you know, we've we've heard that that the medical field,
- 18:36Speaker 2: that that the hospitals have become a monopoly. We we've
- 18:43Speaker 2: also heard that a lot of hospitals are struggling and closing.
- 18:51Speaker 2: But we've also heard from a lot of people that
- 18:53Speaker 2: just man, it's like the the price tag too to
- 18:59Speaker 2: health if you're lucky enough to even get it, if
- 19:03Speaker 2: you're lucky enough to get in the queue to go
- 19:05Speaker 2: see a doctor. Just the the the emergency room alone,
- 19:12Speaker 2: Chrissy has been revamped to what what defines an emergency
- 19:17Speaker 2: now and and get you know, patients are getting shifted
- 19:22Speaker 2: around into into holding areas and maybe even transferred to
- 19:28Speaker 2: other hospitals. I mean, it's it's a little crazy up there.
- 19:32Speaker 5: It absolutely is.
- 19:33Speaker 3: It absolutely is and when you know, when you're presidents
- 19:38Speaker 3: of your hospitals and and uh directors are getting bonuses,
- 19:44Speaker 3: you know, and your hospital staffer are drowning.
- 19:48Speaker 5: There's there's a problem.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 19:52Speaker 5: So I think that we need to prioritize what's important here,
- 19:59Speaker 5: you know.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, the.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Burnout rate, you know, the burnout people are burnt out
- 20:04Speaker 3: because they're working. You know, we work twelve hour shifts
- 20:08Speaker 3: and you know, staff are just they're tired. You know,
- 20:12Speaker 3: we've been really really busy. And you know, because staff
- 20:16Speaker 3: are tired, because staff are burnout, we have a lot
- 20:18Speaker 3: of call outs. Because of that, people they need to
- 20:20Speaker 3: take care of themselves. But you know, we don't have
- 20:24Speaker 3: the staff or you know, and even you know, like
- 20:27Speaker 3: I told people, being appreciated goes a long way as well,
- 20:31Speaker 3: getting paid for your service goes a long way.
- 20:33Speaker 5: But in the end, we're all compassionate and love the
- 20:36Speaker 5: job we do, and we love to take care of
- 20:40Speaker 5: our community. I mean, we're all about our community. Sure,
- 20:44Speaker 5: so yeah, some things need to change.
- 20:47Speaker 2: We're asking for the public to be present tomorrow at
- 20:52Speaker 2: twelve noon to come out and show support and wear
- 20:58Speaker 2: red if you can, horn and if if you can
- 21:02Speaker 2: get out of the car and and get over and
- 21:07Speaker 2: rub a shoulder against one of our healthcare workers right
- 21:11Speaker 2: here in our community and let them know that you
- 21:14Speaker 2: you support them, you're going to stand behind him. Yep, yep, Chrissy,
- 21:20Speaker 2: thanks for coming on with us. I'm going to be
- 21:22Speaker 2: paying attention to what you guys do, and you're always
- 21:25Speaker 2: invited to hop on and share the airways with us.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Always awesome.
- 21:30Speaker 5: Thank you so much, Jady. We all appreciate it. I
- 21:32Speaker 5: can speak for everybody at our union. Thank you.
- 21:35Speaker 2: You got it. Uh wow, what a morning. We're We're
- 21:40Speaker 2: gonna literally drop the clutch now and shift gears. This
- 21:44Speaker 2: guy who is on your your monitor right now did
- 21:50Speaker 2: the unspeakable last weekend. He did something that I am
- 21:57Speaker 2: not entirely sure. And you know, because you been listening
- 22:01Speaker 2: to me, you know that I am the furthest thing
- 22:07Speaker 2: from an MMA expert. But I don't know if this
- 22:14Speaker 2: has ever been done before where someone has come out
- 22:18Speaker 2: for a title fight like this for the Donnybrook Fight
- 22:21Speaker 2: Promotions Professional MMA Championship and knocked somebody out his opponent,
- 22:30Speaker 2: Ryan Sanders in a matter of not minutes but seconds.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Chris Perrault did just that Saturday night, and if you
- 22:42Speaker 2: were not there, you missed a historic night. Inside the
- 22:52Speaker 2: Bury Auditorium, the crowd erupted. It was electric. Everyone was
- 23:00Speaker 2: out of their seat. I almost tripped over myself. I
- 23:05Speaker 2: just could not contain the emotion of seeing what Chris
- 23:11Speaker 2: had done. Welcome to the studios, my brother. I am
- 23:14Speaker 2: so so glad you're here. How's it going, man, I'm
- 23:18Speaker 2: doing well. I just are you as Are you as
- 23:23Speaker 2: stunned as everyone else?
- 23:26Speaker 7: I was pretty stunned, honestly, didn't feel real for a
- 23:30Speaker 7: little bit. I was like all that, all that time,
- 23:32Speaker 7: I put in all that extra work, and yes, it
- 23:34Speaker 7: was over in the blink of an eye.
- 23:37Speaker 4: You know.
- 23:37Speaker 2: One of the things I was I was going to
- 23:39Speaker 2: say to you this morning, is you know how much
- 23:47Speaker 2: how much pain are you in?
- 23:50Speaker 4: You know?
- 23:50Speaker 2: Are you limping? Are you walking around with with bruises on?
- 23:55Speaker 2: It never got to that point.
- 23:58Speaker 7: No, I was fortunate enough not to get hit at
- 24:02Speaker 7: all during this fight. I was expecting to get a
- 24:06Speaker 7: little beat up, but it didn't go that way. I guess.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you have a lot of local fan favorites here,
- 24:19Speaker 2: not just inside the Granite City. MMA gym uh, but
- 24:28Speaker 2: just throughout and not just Washington County, but far beyond
- 24:32Speaker 2: our borders of our counties. Here, you have really become
- 24:37Speaker 2: a namesake for not only Granite City MMA and donnic
- 24:41Speaker 2: Brook Fight Promotions, but in the Northeast regionally. Chris Perrault
- 24:46Speaker 2: uh has got his name etched in. Man, You're you
- 24:49Speaker 2: are literally kicking ass. How did you see any of
- 24:53Speaker 2: this coming? Was just a dream of yours.
- 24:56Speaker 7: I mean, it's always been a dream to be at
- 24:58Speaker 7: this level. But I honest, like three years ago when
- 25:01Speaker 7: I it was about three years ago when I walked
- 25:04Speaker 7: into Granite City, Mme, I didn't know if I was
- 25:07Speaker 7: really going to fight or not, and I didn't expect
- 25:09Speaker 7: to be where I am today. But I definitely have
- 25:12Speaker 7: put in the work and feel like I deserve it.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Wait a second, how many years ago?
- 25:17Speaker 7: It's probably been like three maybe four years since I
- 25:21Speaker 7: walked into Grand City. But I've been training like my
- 25:23Speaker 7: whole life, wrestling and stuff, and I've fought. It was
- 25:26Speaker 7: like ten years ago. I did a couple of fights
- 25:28Speaker 7: when I probably shouldn't have been fighting. Just did it
- 25:31Speaker 7: to do it.
- 25:33Speaker 2: In a ring in an organized event. Yeah, Okay, dude,
- 25:39Speaker 2: I gotta tell you, man, there is you know, and
- 25:47Speaker 2: Big Kenny has got me on camera just pulling my
- 25:50Speaker 2: hair out, just screaming. What just happened? I said to him,
- 25:58Speaker 2: I said to him during that that other fight was
- 26:04Speaker 2: who was it? Uh? The Sosa? Yes, I told him,
- 26:09Speaker 2: I said, Kenny, pay attention here, because some of these
- 26:15Speaker 2: fights will really surprise you and not necessarily go the
- 26:23Speaker 2: way you think that they're gonna go. So head up,
- 26:28Speaker 2: eyes open, pay attention here. Watch watch what's gonna happen.
- 26:31Speaker 2: And that was before you even stepped into the ring.
- 26:35Speaker 4: And what was it?
- 26:38Speaker 2: I heard fourteen seconds, but I mean I've gone back
- 26:41Speaker 2: and watched it and it's more like I'm getting like
- 26:43Speaker 2: six seven seconds. What what was it?
- 26:46Speaker 7: Yeah, well they said it was fourteen seconds, but it
- 26:50Speaker 7: probably could have got stopped a little sooner, but he
- 26:53Speaker 7: did start to block a little bit and then yeah,
- 26:57Speaker 7: the last couple finish it off. But yeah, ten to
- 27:00Speaker 7: fourteen seconds, I guess.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Yeah, tell us, I mean obviously you were pretty amped up,
- 27:10Speaker 2: you were you, Yeah, worked very hard for this. What
- 27:14Speaker 2: were you told about your opponent, Ryan Sanders I had
- 27:19Speaker 2: ahead of this fight?
- 27:20Speaker 7: Yeah, well I knew he was the number one ranked
- 27:22Speaker 7: fighter in New England. He second in the Northeast, had
- 27:28Speaker 7: like thirty four pro fights, and that was my fourth
- 27:31Speaker 7: pro fight, and so I knew it was gonna I
- 27:34Speaker 7: thought it was going to be a war, and like,
- 27:36Speaker 7: I knew there was a chance of like at that level,
- 27:39Speaker 7: it's whoever makes the first mistake, and so I knew
- 27:42Speaker 7: there was always a chance that I might not walk
- 27:44Speaker 7: out of there with a victory, but I definitely was
- 27:49Speaker 7: going for it.
- 27:49Speaker 2: And you you, you got in there. You guys exchanged
- 27:56Speaker 2: a couple of blows, not met if really any Yeah
- 28:04Speaker 2: from him. What happened there was you you clocked one
- 28:10Speaker 2: on him and you got him.
- 28:11Speaker 7: Yeah. Well, I think he was underestimating my stand up
- 28:15Speaker 7: because everyone thinks I'm a wrestler and there's not much
- 28:19Speaker 7: video of me striking with people. But since I started
- 28:23Speaker 7: going to Granite City, I've been doing some privates with
- 28:26Speaker 7: our coach, Lucas John and we've been just trying to
- 28:30Speaker 7: work on the striking and get it nice and crisp
- 28:32Speaker 7: and quick. And he had his hands down a little
- 28:35Speaker 7: bit and yeah, and his chin was up a little
- 28:38Speaker 7: bit and he was kind of I don't know, walking
- 28:42Speaker 7: around a little cocky in there and wasn't ready for it.
- 28:46Speaker 2: You have what's impressive for me as as someone on
- 28:52Speaker 2: the outside looking in and not necessarily understanding everything that's happening,
- 28:59Speaker 2: but understanding the basics in a sense where your brain
- 29:07Speaker 2: has milliseconds to make a decision and to capitalize on
- 29:16Speaker 2: it as quickly as possible. You if you missed that
- 29:22Speaker 2: window of opportunity, Uh, it's over. You're you're You've missed
- 29:29Speaker 2: it and you may not get it back. But like
- 29:32Speaker 2: you said, he let his hands down for a second
- 29:36Speaker 2: and you got in there and you popped him one, bro. Yeah,
- 29:41Speaker 2: and it took him off of his feet and he
- 29:44Speaker 2: went down and then you had to uh finish the
- 29:51Speaker 2: deal at that point.
- 29:52Speaker 7: Yeah, go to the ref stops you?
- 29:54Speaker 2: Yes? Now when they when they so? What are you
- 29:58Speaker 2: hearing in there?
- 29:59Speaker 6: What?
- 30:00Speaker 2: What did they yell at you? Stop?
- 30:02Speaker 7: I don't know, Like, honestly, I'm so in the moment
- 30:05Speaker 7: when I'm in there, and but I watched it back
- 30:09Speaker 7: and I got like the ref kind of jumped in
- 30:11Speaker 7: between and I just hopped right off and just knew
- 30:14Speaker 7: it was over.
- 30:15Speaker 2: So, yeah, the crowd went absolutely insane and you were
- 30:22Speaker 2: pacing around the inside of that cage, just absolutely stoked
- 30:27Speaker 2: and and you knew. Did you get a chance to
- 30:31Speaker 2: speak with Ryan afterwards?
- 30:34Speaker 7: I was hanging out for a while after and uh
- 30:37Speaker 7: like at the very end of the night, there wasn't
- 30:39Speaker 7: many people there, and he actually had come up and
- 30:41Speaker 7: he was with his coaches and he came and congratulated me,
- 30:45Speaker 7: and he was a little down, but he was actually
- 30:48Speaker 7: pretty respectful and even when he first showed up, he
- 30:51Speaker 7: shook my hand and introduced himself.
- 30:53Speaker 2: But before the fight, yeah, way before the fight.
- 30:56Speaker 7: Yeah, so he was actually pretty respectful. But he was
- 30:59Speaker 7: also so his fans are a little more cocky than him,
- 31:02Speaker 7: but he was a little too confident that he was
- 31:06Speaker 7: gonna walk through the fight, also saying he was one
- 31:08Speaker 7: hundred going to win the fight.
- 31:10Speaker 2: And saw that on media night Friday night that that
- 31:15Speaker 2: he said this, there was a very high level of
- 31:17Speaker 2: confidence you and Lucas and Rex are also You're via
- 31:28Speaker 2: a very humble guy, but there is a level of
- 31:32Speaker 2: confidence that that comes out of your proven performances. And
- 31:43Speaker 2: we hear it from Lucas, we hear it from Rex,
- 31:45Speaker 2: But is there something about you that says if this
- 31:53Speaker 2: guy from Bengor, Maine, who is so good, has such
- 31:59Speaker 2: a great track record that he can be so confident
- 32:06Speaker 2: but yet have a stunner come his way in around
- 32:13Speaker 2: ten seconds or so. That that's something that could possibly
- 32:19Speaker 2: potentially also happened to me. Chris Parral.
- 32:23Speaker 7: Yeah, well, honestly, way back in high school, I had
- 32:26Speaker 7: a moment where I was a state champion wrestler and
- 32:30Speaker 7: I was doing a summer tournament and I it was
- 32:33Speaker 7: like around Robin, I was beating everyone, and then there
- 32:35Speaker 7: was the worst kid in their bracket and I was
- 32:37Speaker 7: I went in cocky, and he ended up catching me
- 32:40Speaker 7: and pinning me. And I learned then, like, you can't
- 32:43Speaker 7: underestimate anyone, no matter what skill level, and it just
- 32:47Speaker 7: happens to be He learned that later in his career,
- 32:50Speaker 7: and I learned that earlier in my career.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Wow. So you you you have you're at peace with that,
- 32:57Speaker 2: you have you have an understanding that there's a difference
- 33:02Speaker 2: maybe between being cocky and or arrogant and also having
- 33:09Speaker 2: a lot of confidence. There's a fine line between the two. Yeah.
- 33:14Speaker 7: Yeah, I just know anyone has a chance no matter what,
- 33:17Speaker 7: Like it's a fight, any anyone has a chance. It
- 33:19Speaker 7: just takes one mistake.
- 33:21Speaker 2: And did he speak with with you at all about
- 33:29Speaker 2: his mistake.
- 33:31Speaker 7: He didn't say anything about his mistake. He just said
- 33:33Speaker 7: that that was that was a hard punch, and he
- 33:37Speaker 7: didn't say too much, just congratulated me, But he didn't
- 33:40Speaker 7: say anything about a mistake.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Or what could he have I mean you, you, you
- 33:48Speaker 2: got him off his feet, and then you you, you
- 33:50Speaker 2: got on him and and took care of him. But
- 33:53Speaker 2: what what could he have done differently so that that
- 33:58Speaker 2: fight maybe lasted a little bit longer?
- 34:01Speaker 7: Yeah, well you can hear his coach in the beginning
- 34:03Speaker 7: say keep it tight, as in like keep it tight, guard,
- 34:07Speaker 7: keep your hands up. And he had them down a
- 34:10Speaker 7: little bit like I didn't. I wasn't even thinking like
- 34:12Speaker 7: hands are down, like when we practice, we just drill, drill,
- 34:16Speaker 7: drill and build these reactions. And then I just reacted
- 34:20Speaker 7: in there and saw it without knowing I saw it.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Lucas is you know, he's always saying about you, and
- 34:30Speaker 2: I don't want to speak for him, but he always
- 34:34Speaker 2: he's very happy, he's very proud, but he also always
- 34:41Speaker 2: has said about you. Chris just did what he trains
- 34:49Speaker 2: to do. I mean this is why you guys are
- 34:53Speaker 2: in the gym as much as you are. You just
- 34:56Speaker 2: did instinctually what you've been trained to do. Yeah, react quickly. Yep,
- 35:05Speaker 2: My god, man, what happens with Ryan Sanders?
- 35:11Speaker 6: Now?
- 35:12Speaker 7: I don't know he's at that Like he's a little older.
- 35:18Speaker 7: He was thirty seven, so I feel like he doesn't
- 35:20Speaker 7: have too much left in his career. But he was
- 35:23Speaker 7: definitely still at a high level. Like there's like I
- 35:25Speaker 7: don't think he was out of his prime or any
- 35:27Speaker 7: of that when I thought him like he was in
- 35:28Speaker 7: great shape. He was fighting at a high level his
- 35:32Speaker 7: entire career. But I don't know. I think that one
- 35:35Speaker 7: might have humbled him a little bit and made him
- 35:37Speaker 7: realize maybe it might be time to move on. But
- 35:41Speaker 7: maybe not. We'll see. I think he loves fighting so
- 35:43Speaker 7: much so that he'll probably step in there again and
- 35:46Speaker 7: try to end on a good note.
- 35:48Speaker 2: You think so, yeah, you think there could be a rematch.
- 35:52Speaker 7: I don't know if there would be a rematch. Honestly,
- 35:55Speaker 7: I'm trying to move on to bigger and better things,
- 35:58Speaker 7: and I mean, if it happens, then it happens. But sure,
- 36:03Speaker 7: I'm just trying to keep on climbing the ladder and
- 36:06Speaker 7: seeing where I can.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Get, but also also training to prepare for the war
- 36:14Speaker 2: to be in that cage for a long time. What
- 36:17Speaker 2: was it five five minute rounds?
- 36:19Speaker 7: Yeah, twenty five minute fight, yeah. And then you see
- 36:23Speaker 7: the people getting tired in their six minute fights before that,
- 36:26Speaker 7: and after one two minute round and there people are
- 36:29Speaker 7: getting tired. So it definitely is. And I haven't had Like,
- 36:32Speaker 7: I'm pretty confident in my cardio and I've been working
- 36:35Speaker 7: on my cardio a lot, but I haven't had time
- 36:37Speaker 7: to really see if how my cardio is because of
- 36:41Speaker 7: the first round finishes.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Sure I have I have overheard and I've heard it
- 36:52Speaker 2: out of the mouth of rex And and Lucas. You
- 36:59Speaker 2: know that at some point you're you're gonna get humbled.
- 37:02Speaker 2: But I've heard these guys say it's too late. He's
- 37:06Speaker 2: already humble. That's just who you are, you, that's just
- 37:10Speaker 2: who you are as a man, your your personality. You're
- 37:12Speaker 2: just a humble dude. You're you're full of respect. Now
- 37:16Speaker 2: we get in the ring, we're gonna we're gonna fight.
- 37:18Speaker 2: We get in the cage. Uh, that's a whole different thing.
- 37:21Speaker 2: You You've got like some multiple personalities going on. Bro, Yeah,
- 37:26Speaker 2: Jesus what I mean obviously, I want to know what's
- 37:33Speaker 2: next for you.
- 37:36Speaker 7: Uh, we're just waiting and seeing, like uh, honestly, Rex
- 37:39Speaker 7: is looking for some people. And then if we get
- 37:42Speaker 7: like a right call from another promotion with a matchup
- 37:45Speaker 7: that makes sense, we'll jump on it. But there is
- 37:48Speaker 7: a chance I might be back in Barry in June,
- 37:51Speaker 7: but we'll uh, we'll see. We we don't quite know yet,
- 37:54Speaker 7: but I'm always staying ready. So I went to practice
- 37:58Speaker 7: that following Monday and just won't stop.
- 38:02Speaker 6: Wow.
- 38:04Speaker 2: June seventh. Yeah, battle in Burry seventeenth or seventeen at
- 38:10Speaker 2: the Barry Auditorium Donnybrook Fight Promotions dot com. If you
- 38:14Speaker 2: want to grab tickets, I don't know what even when
- 38:15Speaker 2: the tickets are going on sale, they might even be
- 38:17Speaker 2: already on sale. I don't know. But that is whether
- 38:22Speaker 2: or not you get in the cage or not. You'll
- 38:24Speaker 2: you'll be there, Yeah, I'll be there either way, and
- 38:26Speaker 2: Granite City MMA will will be there. Any other kudos
- 38:31Speaker 2: to any other Granite City MMA fighters that you want
- 38:34Speaker 2: to throw some love at.
- 38:35Speaker 7: Him, I mean just our coach Lucas John obviously and
- 38:40Speaker 7: then Rex, he's he's in there training hard to doing
- 38:43Speaker 7: free classes, helping the community.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Out, loves the kids.
- 38:48Speaker 7: Yeah, and then everyone that just have everyone that trains there,
- 38:52Speaker 7: everyone like everyone I train with everyone, hobbyists, kids like,
- 38:57Speaker 7: they're all in there with me, training with me, getting
- 39:00Speaker 7: better with me. And they all put in the rounds
- 39:02Speaker 7: with me. So everyone's it's quite the community we have.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Up there, big ed Uh he you you guys have
- 39:11Speaker 2: traded a few blows.
- 39:12Speaker 7: Yeah, no, we we always go to war and gotten
- 39:16Speaker 7: each other a lot better. And uh, but it's a
- 39:19Speaker 7: mutual respect.
- 39:19Speaker 2: We But and how about Sophia Haynes.
- 39:23Speaker 7: She she's gonna she's gonna make it fire. She's definitely
- 39:27Speaker 7: got a great skill set for the amount of years
- 39:30Speaker 7: that she's been doing it too. And she'll stand, she'll
- 39:33Speaker 7: go in there and she'll fight with the big boys
- 39:36Speaker 7: and hold her own.
- 39:38Speaker 2: So we start fighting with Matt uh not too long ago,
- 39:41Speaker 2: her brother. What did what did Sophia say to you after?
- 39:45Speaker 7: I don't know. There was so many people that came
- 39:47Speaker 7: up to me after, but everyone congratulated me.
- 39:50Speaker 6: Uh.
- 39:50Speaker 7: Sophia actually made cookies for the team, and so I
- 39:53Speaker 7: got to eat some cookies and stuff after they're pretty good.
- 39:55Speaker 2: And what did you do afterwards?
- 39:58Speaker 7: Uh, went back to the gym with the team. We
- 40:01Speaker 7: all got pizzas and stuff, and honestly, someone offered me
- 40:06Speaker 7: a beer and I grabbed a soda because I've just
- 40:09Speaker 7: been craving junk food and soda ever since.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Good Man, Yeah, good Man. I love the fact that
- 40:19Speaker 2: I love the fact that you guys regroup afterwards, regardless
- 40:25Speaker 2: of what happens in the cage back at Granite City MMA,
- 40:29Speaker 2: and you all come together as a family and talk
- 40:32Speaker 2: about it and celebrate and talk about what could have
- 40:36Speaker 2: been better, what was fantastic, because a lot of you
- 40:44Speaker 2: just aren't old enough to get out, to get out
- 40:46Speaker 2: to a bar and to you know, for Lucas to say, hey, man,
- 40:52Speaker 2: you know, this is part of our tradition. We're getting
- 40:54Speaker 2: a couple of pizzas. We're going to go back to
- 40:58Speaker 2: where it begins for all of us, our facility, our home,
- 41:02Speaker 2: what we're most familiar with, and sit around and and
- 41:07Speaker 2: chat as a family without having taken a night off,
- 41:11Speaker 2: a well deserved night off, without without training to do that.
- 41:14Speaker 2: I think that's really cool, and I think that says
- 41:17Speaker 2: a lot about Lucas.
- 41:18Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, we go there win or lose. Like, we
- 41:21Speaker 7: had another teammate fight that night, Quinn Smith, and he's
- 41:24Speaker 7: an absolute animal, and he had the roughest fight camp
- 41:28Speaker 7: you could possibly have and took on one of the
- 41:31Speaker 7: toughest opponents you could possibly take on last second and
- 41:35Speaker 7: he was beating the crap out of him. Just made
- 41:36Speaker 7: a couple of little mistakes, but he's at that young
- 41:39Speaker 7: age where he's gonna now's the time to learn those
- 41:43Speaker 7: mistakes and he has a bright future.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Also that fight, Quinn, by the way, he he looked amazing.
- 41:50Speaker 2: I mean he looks like he was in top top shape. Yeah,
- 41:54Speaker 2: physically and mentally. Yep. What happened with that fight, Well.
- 42:00Speaker 7: I ended up watching it back and he was out
- 42:02Speaker 7: wrestling the guy, out wrestling the guy even doing really
- 42:06Speaker 7: good with his strike and the guy was like a
- 42:08Speaker 7: top notch striker. And the guy had just won a
- 42:12Speaker 7: title for the ne Ef like a couple of weeks
- 42:15Speaker 7: before that, and so it was honestly like a fight
- 42:19Speaker 7: that no one would really take on. And Quinn his
- 42:23Speaker 7: second fight was just like, I'll do it because he
- 42:25Speaker 7: wants to be at the top, and he showed that
- 42:28Speaker 7: he's already at that level. He just needs to work
- 42:31Speaker 7: in a couple of little things. He was doing really good,
- 42:35Speaker 7: just was a little too fast paced. Once he learns
- 42:39Speaker 7: how to relax a tiny bit, he's gonna be deadly,
- 42:43Speaker 7: do you amen.
- 42:45Speaker 2: I was just gonna say, I mean, watch that name
- 42:50Speaker 2: because he's I can't wait to see him come back. Yeah,
- 42:54Speaker 2: I just can't wait to see him back in the cage.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Do you get a chance to ye with with Quinn
- 43:00Speaker 2: about this or do you leave that up to Lucas
- 43:03Speaker 2: to talk about to analyze his performance?
- 43:07Speaker 7: I mean our coach. I'm sure they've already talked about it.
- 43:10Speaker 7: I haven't. I haven't talked with Quinn too much about it,
- 43:13Speaker 7: but he like he was definitely talked with it with
- 43:19Speaker 7: our coach, and our coach, Lucas is gonna definitely work
- 43:23Speaker 7: on what he needs to work on, like he does
- 43:25Speaker 7: that with all of us. He finds the things we
- 43:27Speaker 7: need work on, and then he will do what he
- 43:30Speaker 7: can do to fix it.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Huge respect for Lucas and the way he gets
- 43:44Speaker 2: I gotta say it, because that's what he does. He
- 43:46Speaker 2: gets in your head and makes sure that you understand
- 43:51Speaker 2: how serious this is, and it's not just your your
- 43:56Speaker 2: training at granted City MMA, but also outside of the gym,
- 44:01Speaker 2: in your life. The decisions you make, decisions you make
- 44:06Speaker 2: on what you eat, what you drink, all of that. Yeah,
- 44:10Speaker 2: mental tough.
- 44:12Speaker 7: Yeah, we can always call him. Like honestly, that night,
- 44:14Speaker 7: I wasn't feeling that good from the food I was eating,
- 44:17Speaker 7: and I had called him at midnight, and you picked
- 44:19Speaker 7: the phone right up and gave me some recommendations and
- 44:25Speaker 7: ended up getting through it and feeling better the next day.
- 44:28Speaker 2: You guys have took a little trip down to Massachusetts
- 44:33Speaker 2: not too long ago.
- 44:35Speaker 7: Yeah, I think that was September. Yep, September.
- 44:39Speaker 2: What happened?
- 44:41Speaker 7: That was supposed to be my biggest test before the
- 44:44Speaker 7: Sanders fight, but I took on. He was a little older,
- 44:48Speaker 7: but he also had over twenty pro fights. He was
- 44:51Speaker 7: a four to three black belt in Brazilian jujits to
- 44:55Speaker 7: I think he was even like a world champion at
- 44:57Speaker 7: some point in real That was supposed to to be
- 45:00Speaker 7: my biggest test, and I went down there and ended
- 45:03Speaker 7: up getting it done in the first round.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Minute twenty eight.
- 45:09Speaker 7: Yeah, minute yeah, minute twenty eight thirty eight, yeah, yeah,
- 45:13Speaker 7: minute thirty eight or something like that.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Yeah, how did you? How did you? How'd you beat them?
- 45:19Speaker 6: Uh?
- 45:20Speaker 7: That was tko. Uh we ended up going to the
- 45:23Speaker 7: ground and uh I ended up trapping his arm and
- 45:26Speaker 7: just throwing punches where he couldn't block, so he couldn't
- 45:30Speaker 7: really move to the ref had to stop it.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Is there any part of you that is disappointed that
- 45:40Speaker 2: you didn't get a chance to utilize what you have
- 45:49Speaker 2: been training so hard at Granted City MMA to do
- 45:53Speaker 2: you fight camps and weeks and weeks and weeks months
- 45:59Speaker 2: of training and hard work where you got a great
- 46:05Speaker 2: shot in and you won the fight and that's remarkable.
- 46:09Speaker 2: But is there any part of you that was like, oh, man,
- 46:12Speaker 2: I just wish that I could have won it, maybe
- 46:17Speaker 2: a different way, maybe after a couple of rounds of
- 46:22Speaker 2: a war.
- 46:23Speaker 7: Yeah, Well, I mean I prefer the quick and easy ones.
- 46:26Speaker 7: But I know, I know at some point there's gonna
- 46:29Speaker 7: be a war in there, and it's it's bound to happen.
- 46:33Speaker 7: Not everything's gonna go the way it's been going, but
- 46:38Speaker 7: I'm ready for a war. And even in the amateur career,
- 46:41Speaker 7: that Kenyan More fight, that one was a five round war,
- 46:43Speaker 7: and like that one, was pretty grueling and tiring. So
- 46:46Speaker 7: I showed that I can pull it out when I'm
- 46:50Speaker 7: as tired as possible. And yeah, and I've been in
- 46:54Speaker 7: the deep waters before.
- 46:56Speaker 2: And so yeah, is Cardio really king?
- 47:00Speaker 7: Yeah, that's honestly, like, if I had to have one
- 47:04Speaker 7: fear in there, it would be getting tired during a fight.
- 47:07Speaker 7: It's not about getting knocked out, like honestly, that stuff
- 47:10Speaker 7: doesn't hurt with adrenaline, But the worst thing is getting tired.
- 47:15Speaker 7: And like, because I've been tired in the past, like
- 47:17Speaker 7: with wrestling and stuff like that, and it's just it's
- 47:21Speaker 7: embarrassing if you can't finish a fight or if you
- 47:23Speaker 7: lose a fight because of Cardio. That's it's embarrassing. It
- 47:27Speaker 7: sucks everyone what watches you. But yeah, Cardio is king.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Where'd you go to high school?
- 47:34Speaker 7: I went to Saint John's very Academy, okay, And yeah,
- 47:39Speaker 7: graduated there twenty twelve.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Okay, and you were a pretty accomplished wrestler.
- 47:49Speaker 7: Yeah, well, I started wasn't my first my freshman sophomore year,
- 47:53Speaker 7: I didn't place at States. I wasn't like I was okay,
- 47:56Speaker 7: but I wasn't that good. And then I was poortuate
- 48:00Speaker 7: 'ough to have like an amazing wrestling coach, Mike Verge,
- 48:03Speaker 7: and he pushed us and pushed us and got me
- 48:06Speaker 7: to do it like year round. And once I started
- 48:08Speaker 7: doing it year round, I went from not placing the
- 48:11Speaker 7: first two years to becoming a two time state champ.
- 48:16Speaker 7: So it went from not placing to winning states just
- 48:18Speaker 7: with hard work and dedication.
- 48:21Speaker 2: Any siblings, Yeah, I have.
- 48:24Speaker 7: Three brothers and one sister. The sisters the oldest. I
- 48:28Speaker 7: have an older brother that I work with right now.
- 48:31Speaker 7: Then I have two younger brothers. One of them lives
- 48:34Speaker 7: in Barry moved out here and he trains he fought
- 48:37Speaker 7: before does Brazilians who trains a lot with me. And
- 48:41Speaker 7: then another younger brother also that I work with.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Okay, all right around the same age though.
- 48:48Speaker 7: Yeah, we're all within a couple of years of each other.
- 48:50Speaker 7: Like it's like two years, two years, two years pretty much.
- 48:53Speaker 6: Sure.
- 48:54Speaker 2: So mom has four boys. Yeah, tell me about some
- 48:59Speaker 2: of the fights he got into as as kids.
- 49:01Speaker 7: I mean it was, uh when we were younger, we
- 49:03Speaker 7: definitely fought a lot. We weren't much of like fist
- 49:06Speaker 7: fighters like we do in naming stuff, but we we
- 49:09Speaker 7: probably we used to hate each other obviously that that's
- 49:12Speaker 7: like how most kids are when they're younger. But we
- 49:14Speaker 7: all get along great now. But yeah, we've we fought
- 49:18Speaker 7: all the time and probably drove our parents crazy. But
- 49:24Speaker 7: and then, yeah, it was quite hectic. The the ear
- 49:28Speaker 7: knew us pretty well.
- 49:29Speaker 2: Really. Yeah so, so obviously fists have flown, well, some.
- 49:34Speaker 7: Fists have flown, but sometimes the ear things were just
- 49:37Speaker 7: from doing stupid kids. So we we grew up on
- 49:39Speaker 7: a horse farm with a bunch of horses and just
- 49:43Speaker 7: had a lot of stuff we could do with uh
- 49:46Speaker 7: running around on the big property.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Trying desperately to get hurt. Yeah, yeah understand.
- 49:52Speaker 7: Riding the bowl?
- 49:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, absolutely did you did you?
- 49:55Speaker 7: We had we had a little bowl and uh we
- 49:58Speaker 7: had a we would hop on it sometimes.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Yeah so, but but fists have flown with the with
- 50:08Speaker 2: at least one of the brothers, Yeah.
- 50:10Speaker 7: I mean a few times. And then uh we actually
- 50:13Speaker 7: used to Me and my older brother used to Actually
- 50:15Speaker 7: Johnny had told this story before, but uh, I would
- 50:18Speaker 7: take one of the younger brothers, my older brother would
- 50:20Speaker 7: take the other one. We would train that person and
- 50:23Speaker 7: then we would put our dad's old hockey equipment on
- 50:26Speaker 7: them and then make them fight each other with all
- 50:27Speaker 7: the hockey gear on. And then it was me and
- 50:30Speaker 7: my older brother wanted to see, like who the better
- 50:32Speaker 7: coach was?
- 50:32Speaker 2: In a way, wow, where was this done?
- 50:35Speaker 6: Was?
- 50:36Speaker 7: Was it in the yard, in the garage, in the yard,
- 50:38Speaker 7: sometimes in the house.
- 50:40Speaker 2: But yeah, your poor mom, Yeah damn having to deal
- 50:44Speaker 2: with that ship.
- 50:45Speaker 7: Yeah no, Uh, we definitely probably drove them a little crazy,
- 50:49Speaker 7: but they've they've been there through it all and supported
- 50:51Speaker 7: us all the way through it.
- 50:52Speaker 2: So wow, Now did you did you ever get into
- 51:00Speaker 2: no fight in school?
- 51:02Speaker 3: No?
- 51:03Speaker 7: I never was, Like, uh, there had been times me
- 51:06Speaker 7: and my friends would get together and we would like
- 51:07Speaker 7: box each other with boxing gloves, and none of us
- 51:10Speaker 7: knew what we were doing. We all like, we all
- 51:12Speaker 7: thought we knew how to fight, but in reality, if
- 51:14Speaker 7: you don't train you how to fight. But this is true,
- 51:17Speaker 7: I wasn't much of a fight. I was honestly the
- 51:19Speaker 7: quiet kid in school. Uh, and didn't really talk too much.
- 51:24Speaker 7: I kind of hung out with my friends and stuff
- 51:26Speaker 7: like that. But I was never starting stuff or trying.
- 51:29Speaker 2: To fight people or running your gums.
- 51:31Speaker 7: No, yeah, never running my gums.
- 51:32Speaker 2: You never got no fight in the hallway out out
- 51:35Speaker 2: in the out in the yard.
- 51:36Speaker 7: No, no, I've like yeah no, yeah, unlike recks, yeah,
- 51:45Speaker 7: unlike recks.
- 51:45Speaker 2: Unlike what about a what about a bar fight?
- 51:50Speaker 7: Uh not really no, there's been always been like like
- 51:54Speaker 7: I don't know, the drunk stupid arguments and stuff like that.
- 51:57Speaker 7: But uh no, not not much of a fighter, just
- 52:00Speaker 7: a it was just a wrestler.
- 52:02Speaker 2: Wow. What do you what do you like to do
- 52:06Speaker 2: in your life? I know you work hard. I know
- 52:08Speaker 2: you're you're being You're pulling yourself away from your job
- 52:12Speaker 2: to be here this morning. What do you like to do?
- 52:16Speaker 2: You're you're engaged, Yeah.
- 52:19Speaker 7: Yeah, recently engaged. Gratulations man, Yeah, thank you. But we
- 52:23Speaker 7: we like to do a lot of outdoor stuff, me
- 52:25Speaker 7: and my fiance. We go on a lot of hikes.
- 52:27Speaker 7: We bring our dogs for walks, all right at the quarries.
- 52:30Speaker 7: The corries are an awesome place to go take your
- 52:31Speaker 7: dog for a walk. Uh yeah, we're the Frisbee golf
- 52:36Speaker 7: h yeah yeah.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah yeah.
- 52:37Speaker 7: We go to those trails like almost every day but
- 52:41Speaker 7: except for a few here. But just like enjoying the
- 52:44Speaker 7: outdoor weather and now that it's getting nicer out definitely
- 52:47Speaker 7: gonna do some more.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Things, camel some maybe at some point.
- 52:51Speaker 7: This that's on the list, that's what we want to do.
- 52:54Speaker 7: We did, uh, we actually did.
- 52:55Speaker 6: Uh.
- 52:55Speaker 7: It was Mount Mansfield last year, and yes, I ended
- 52:58Speaker 7: up going to practice. My fiance wanted to leave earlier
- 53:02Speaker 7: so that we could kind of get it done, and
- 53:04Speaker 7: I was like, oh, we'll go after practice, and we
- 53:06Speaker 7: ended up hiking it and then we got stuck up.
- 53:08Speaker 7: We were at the top when sunset started and we
- 53:10Speaker 7: ended up walking down the entire mountain Mansfield and the
- 53:14Speaker 7: pitch black.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Okay, so I've done that on on Campbell's but but
- 53:18Speaker 2: not on Mansfield.
- 53:19Speaker 7: So no headlamp or anything, just our phones, just our
- 53:22Speaker 7: phone lights.
- 53:24Speaker 2: Yeah that works.
- 53:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 53:26Speaker 2: What else do you like to do?
- 53:28Speaker 7: Uh? I don't know, honestly, just hang out with like
- 53:32Speaker 7: a big family person. If I have a chance to
- 53:35Speaker 7: go see my family, I'll go hang out with them.
- 53:38Speaker 7: But mostly just outdoorsy stuff and practice and work.
- 53:43Speaker 2: And you worked very hard, very very hard. You have
- 53:47Speaker 2: worked for Barcelow Construction for a long time. You and
- 53:50Speaker 2: Ed and everybody. You guys are all tougher than nails. Man.
- 53:54Speaker 2: I can't believe you're out there framing shut up in
- 53:57Speaker 2: the in a snowstorm and stuff. I mean, it's it's
- 54:00Speaker 2: impressive what you do. Yeah, but but you know, one
- 54:05Speaker 2: of the last times I step foot on one of
- 54:08Speaker 2: your job sites, you you and Edward there and both
- 54:12Speaker 2: of you mainly at Buffoon, you know, saying yeah, you know,
- 54:20Speaker 2: we're we're we're out We're out here working really hard,
- 54:25Speaker 2: really hard, and when the day is over, we're gonna
- 54:29Speaker 2: meet back up at Granite City MMA and beat the
- 54:34Speaker 2: shit out of each other.
- 54:35Speaker 7: Yeah. Yeah, it's a it's a never ending cycle of
- 54:38Speaker 7: work practice and then not much free time. But when
- 54:41Speaker 7: I get free time, I try to take advantage of it.
- 54:44Speaker 7: But especially during fight camp, there's the always the onseeing
- 54:48Speaker 7: things that people don't know that we're doing. Like I'm
- 54:51Speaker 7: always trying to do extra workouts, running on the treadmill,
- 54:54Speaker 7: doing privates with our coach, just NonStop work to all
- 54:59Speaker 7: for one moment.
- 55:00Speaker 2: Yeah, isn't that something you? You and Lucas and Rex
- 55:06Speaker 2: and Kendra and Sophia and everybody else. You guys are
- 55:11Speaker 2: so good with welcoming kids into that gym and just
- 55:22Speaker 2: mentoring them and showing them what they can do with
- 55:27Speaker 2: their bodies and that they don't have to aspire to
- 55:33Speaker 2: be a champion in the ring. Yeah, but to learn
- 55:40Speaker 2: the skills on how to go through life, knowing how
- 55:45Speaker 2: to protect yourself and get away from a bad situation.
- 55:50Speaker 2: You work with these little kids just like everyone else does.
- 55:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:56Speaker 7: I've been doing some starting to do wrestling practices from
- 55:59Speaker 7: ten to eleven Saturday. So if people want to do
- 56:01Speaker 7: some MMA wrestling, I'll be there and me and my
- 56:04Speaker 7: brother teach everything we got. But yeah, no, it's quite
- 56:09Speaker 7: the community. We were all trying to welcome new people
- 56:12Speaker 7: like anyone's always welcome, and no matter if you're just
- 56:15Speaker 7: a hobbyist you want to get a workout, or if
- 56:18Speaker 7: you want to be a champion, you're everyone's welcome, and
- 56:21Speaker 7: we we welcome everyone with open arms and trying to
- 56:26Speaker 7: get as many people in there as we can.
- 56:29Speaker 2: Now let's talk about First of all, Rex was not
- 56:32Speaker 2: able to be here today. He's up at the hospital
- 56:36Speaker 2: getting a prostate exam. So Rex, did you do like Rex,
- 56:45Speaker 2: like within the hour after the battle and Berry eat
- 56:49Speaker 2: six pizzas and then get in the in the sauna
- 56:52Speaker 2: and sweat it all out.
- 56:55Speaker 7: No, but this whole week I kind of been pigging
- 56:57Speaker 7: out because I was on a strict diet for for
- 57:00Speaker 7: a while, so I've been taking advantage that this is
- 57:03Speaker 7: my cheat week, So taking advantage of my cheat week,
- 57:06Speaker 7: and then it's back to back to the grind of
- 57:09Speaker 7: trying to eat healthy again.
- 57:10Speaker 2: Right. Rex's phone was exploding on Sunday morning day after
- 57:23Speaker 2: this fight, this battle in Bury sixteen, people wanting you
- 57:30Speaker 2: and Rex and Donnybrook Fight Promotions has learned an awful
- 57:39Speaker 2: lot the hard way about loyalty and protecting what they've
- 57:47Speaker 2: got in that Granite City Mma. Gym and Rex is
- 57:53Speaker 2: a great memory. And man, it's like, if if you
- 57:58Speaker 2: want Chris Perrault, you you have to have proven yourself
- 58:04Speaker 2: as another promotions event and fight fight event fight company,
- 58:12Speaker 2: as someone who has above all things integrity and to
- 58:19Speaker 2: stand behind your word. And if you earn that respect
- 58:25Speaker 2: with Donnybrook Fight Promotions, he'll consider having further discussions with
- 58:31Speaker 2: you about any matchups with any of their fighters, especially you.
- 58:35Speaker 2: And I think that's really notable about Rex. He's got
- 58:39Speaker 2: your freaking back, dude.
- 58:40Speaker 7: Yeah, No, he wants the best for us and he
- 58:43Speaker 7: wants to make sure we're like he wants to try
- 58:45Speaker 7: and make the right decision for us and like do
- 58:50Speaker 7: what he can do to help better our careers and
- 58:52Speaker 7: stuff like that. Not saying we're trying to take easy
- 58:55Speaker 7: fights or anything. We obviously take the hard fights. But
- 58:59Speaker 7: he's not horring you out though, do Yeah, no, no,
- 59:01Speaker 7: he treats us well. And if you didn't treat me well,
- 59:05Speaker 7: then I wouldn't be fighting for him.
- 59:07Speaker 2: So you had a fight. I can't remember which battle
- 59:12Speaker 2: and Barry it was had to be right around maybe
- 59:15Speaker 2: twelve or thirteen. I can't believe there's been that many,
- 59:17Speaker 2: by the way, four per year up at the Barry Auditorium.
- 59:21Speaker 2: Donningbrook Fight Promotions keep watch of not only their social
- 59:25Speaker 2: but also their their web to get your tickets. But
- 59:28Speaker 2: there was a couple of couple of fights ago where
- 59:31Speaker 2: and I remember it, Lily was there. He had blue
- 59:33Speaker 2: shorts on you. You kicked a guy. You won the fight.
- 59:38Speaker 2: You kicked him and it looked like your your bottom
- 59:41Speaker 2: part of your leg had folded in half like a
- 59:43Speaker 2: like a freaking pretzel. What happened?
- 59:47Speaker 7: So, yeah, that was my actual first fight since I
- 59:51Speaker 7: started training with Granite cu M and A. And yeah,
- 59:55Speaker 7: my striking quite wasn't like we were definitely working on it,
- 59:58Speaker 7: but at that point it wasn't that great and it's
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: improven every day. But I threw a kick and hit
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: him right. It was the one kick I threw and
- 1:00:08Speaker 7: it hit him right in the shin bone, and uh,
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: it just my foot balluant like. I felt it start
- 1:00:13Speaker 7: to swell instantly, and then that happened. I think it
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: was like the near the end of the second round.
- 1:00:18Speaker 7: So I had to fight the rest of the fight
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: with a messed up foot, and good thing I was
- 1:00:23Speaker 7: good at wrestling, so I just took him down and
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: kind of hung out there until the fight was over.
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: And then I thought I was pretty sure I broke
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: it because it it swelled like a balloon. Yeah, and
- 1:00:35Speaker 7: was convinced it was broken, but went and got next
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: ray and they're like, it's it's not broken. I was like,
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: all right, I guess.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: It's unbelievable to it. Yeah, it was, so it looked
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: so bad.
- 1:00:44Speaker 7: Yeah, No, it was the worst thing I've ever done
- 1:00:47Speaker 7: on my foot. And it don't get me wrong, it
- 1:00:49Speaker 7: wasn't broken, but that thing hurt and I could barely
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: walk and it was all black and blue the next day,
- 1:00:54Speaker 7: and yeah, looked like Elephant Titus or something.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: But it did. It looked horrible. And you know, here's me, dumbass.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: And I was standing next to Rex when that happened.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: I was like, oh my god, he's compound fracture. This
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: guy's career is over. Chris Perrault's done forever. And Rex
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: looks at me, He's like, well, you just shut the
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: fuck up. You don't know what you're talking about. He's
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: absolutely fine. He'll be back in the ring in no time.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: There you have it.
- 1:01:24Speaker 7: Yeah, so.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: Obviously we don't want to we don't want to necessarily
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: imply that you're going to be back in the cage
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: for the battle in Barry seventeen. Yeah, but there's a possibility,
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: and we're gonna patiently take a step back and wait
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: to hear from Rex. Will that also be a one
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: seventy MMA title?
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: Yeah, it'll probably be one seventy. I mean I am
- 1:02:05Speaker 7: open to one eighty five. Also, we tried to get
- 1:02:08Speaker 7: a hold of someone at one eighty five. That's seven
- 1:02:12Speaker 7: to zero, and uh wow. They wanted to wait for
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: bigger and better things, so they weren't interested. But no,
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: I'm open it'll probably be one seventy, but I'm at
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: a weight where I can go seventy or eighty five
- 1:02:25Speaker 7: and okay, go at it.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: So you're right back. You got right back in the
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: in the chim on Monday, and your your mindset is
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: to keep working hard, keep training hard, and be ready
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: for that next event, whatever it may be.
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: Yeah, just be ready for any phone call, like because
- 1:02:48Speaker 7: when you take out the number one person, then that's
- 1:02:50Speaker 7: when everyone starts calling. And if the right person calls,
- 1:02:55Speaker 7: the right promotion and it's something I can't pass up,
- 1:02:59Speaker 7: I want to be ready to go that next week.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: If I have to. Or And what was Ryan Sanders'
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: record at that at that point before he fought you,
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: he was.
- 1:03:09Speaker 7: Twenty three and eleven and there was only one other
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: person to ever knock him out, and it was someone
- 1:03:15Speaker 7: that's currently in the UFC, So he's definitely not known
- 1:03:18Speaker 7: for getting knocked out.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Who is that in the UFC?
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: Michael Venom page MVP?
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Wow?
- 1:03:26Speaker 7: But he did it in ten seconds. I did it,
- 1:03:28Speaker 7: So he's a little better than the US.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: Please give me a break, dude, Jesus, You're you're just
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: what was what was another fight that you really enjoyed
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: watching rewatching last Saturday night. Uh, in addition to Quinn.
- 1:03:46Speaker 7: Well, when I was getting ready for my fight, obviously
- 1:03:49Speaker 7: the Quinn one, but the one right before me, the Comaine,
- 1:03:52Speaker 7: I was on stage kind of watching and then I
- 1:03:55Speaker 7: was like, I was like, I'm not sure how long
- 1:03:58Speaker 7: it was gonna take. And I was like, oh, I
- 1:03:59Speaker 7: guess I'm up pretty quick because there's a nasty head
- 1:04:01Speaker 7: kick knockout in the first round. And yeah, that one
- 1:04:05Speaker 7: was probably the I didn't watched all of them, but
- 1:04:09Speaker 7: that from what I hear, that was probably one of
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: the better moments of the night.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Also, jeesuz, dude, listen, we had jose Or Tease, the
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: first chosen basketball player for the VT Coyotes leadoff aired
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: out this morning with the big announcement that he was
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: chosen yesterday as man number one on the roster. Great
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: to have him by phone this morning. But the Coyotes,
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: hopefully you're going to be there for the fight on
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: June seventh, Battle and Barry seventeenth will get them introduced
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: because the auditorium is going to be their new home,
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: which is exciting, really exciting for this coming fall. Hopefully
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: you get a chance to meet some of the team players.

- 1:05:04Speaker 2: on so many different levels, not just your your skill
