- 1:12SPEAKER_11: This is true.
- 1:13SPEAKER_11: It's so hard to believe it's December.
- 1:15SPEAKER_11: I know.
- 1:15SPEAKER_11: It's crazy.
- 1:17SPEAKER_11: Uh but yeah, yeah, we didn't do a podcast.
- 1:19SPEAKER_11: We did a podcast before Thanksgiving.
- 1:22SPEAKER_11: And so we took the week of Thanksgiving off.
- 1:24SPEAKER_11: So did you have good Thanksgiving?
- 1:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:27SPEAKER_11: Yeah?
- 1:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:29SPEAKER_11: Did you?
- 1:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:32SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 1:33SPEAKER_11: Moving on.
- 1:34SPEAKER_11: Next topic.
- 1:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah, no, Jude and his wife came up.
- 1:40SPEAKER_11: Okay, good.
- 1:41SPEAKER_11: It's so hard to it's weird.
- 1:43SPEAKER_11: Well, it's weird saying that, yeah.
- 1:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:45SPEAKER_09: Well, it's their first Thanksgiving.
- 1:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:46SPEAKER_09: As as husband and wife.
- 1:48SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:48SPEAKER_09: So.
- 1:49SPEAKER_11: And um so they came up and uh well, you know, Eli had been sick.
- 1:54SPEAKER_11: I don't know if I don't know if you know.
- 1:55SPEAKER_11: So he had he had his wisdom teeth out on November sixth.
- 2:00SPEAKER_11: And so for like four days, he was home and was resting, right?
- 2:08SPEAKER_11: And not having any physical activity.
- 2:10SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 2:10SPEAKER_11: Well, he goes back to school on Monday and it's tryouts for the varsity basketball.
- 2:15SPEAKER_11: And he went hard.
- 2:16SPEAKER_11: I mean he didn't know he always does.
- 2:18SPEAKER_11: That's what he does.
- 2:19SPEAKER_11: And too hard.
- 2:20SPEAKER_11: And and I don't know.
- 2:22SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 2:23SPEAKER_11: He developed some sort of sickness and it lasted for a while.
- 2:28SPEAKER_11: Excuse me.
- 2:30SPEAKER_11: And eventually uh I had to take him to the walk-in because to f come and find he had a double ear infection.
- 2:39SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 2:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 2:40SPEAKER_11: And bacterial infection in his chest.
- 2:43SPEAKER_11: So he was I don't, you know, this walking pneumonia is going around.
- 2:47SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 2:48SPEAKER_11: Somebody was talking to me tonight about that, you know, because it's like there's a lot of, there seems to be a lot of walking pneumonia.
- 2:54SPEAKER_11: And and and the guy that I was talking to, um, he's like, Can't you isn't the only way to diagnose walking pneumonia with an x-ray?
- 3:04SPEAKER_11: I mean, is that true?
- 3:06SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 3:07SPEAKER_11: I'm not a doctor.
- 3:08SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 3:08SPEAKER_11: So, and uh, but I think that is well, I know that's one of the only ways to diagnose pneumonia.
- 3:13SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 3:14SPEAKER_11: But walking pneumonia, I don't know.
- 3:16SPEAKER_09: But probably the same.
- 3:18SPEAKER_11: But they don't they're not taking x-rays.
- 3:20SPEAKER_11: They're just kind of getting away.
- 3:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah, they're just like, you're you got walking pneumonia.
- 3:22SPEAKER_11: Here's some antibiotics.
- 3:24SPEAKER_09: Uh except for you, Doug.
- 3:25SPEAKER_09: You have you have sitting pneumonia.
- 3:28SPEAKER_09: Why do I have sitting pneumonia?
- 3:30SPEAKER_09: Because you sit.
- 3:32SPEAKER_09: You sit a lot, you lazy jerk.
- 3:36SPEAKER_09: That's not very doctor-like.
- 3:38SPEAKER_09: Shut up.
- 3:39SPEAKER_09: Anyway.
- 3:40SPEAKER_09: My doctor's very mean.
- 3:43SPEAKER_09: He's very nice.
- 3:44SPEAKER_09: Dr.
- 3:45SPEAKER_09: Macharya, he's awesome.
- 3:46SPEAKER_11: He's awesome.
- 3:47SPEAKER_11: Um, so you know, they gave him antibiotics and and uh he's I think he's his uh ears don't hurt anymore, they're still clogged.
- 3:57SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 3:57SPEAKER_09: Um I think that would be worse than anything.
- 4:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 4:00SPEAKER_09: That would drive me crazy.
- 4:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 4:01SPEAKER_09: Because I mean my hearing's not good as it is, and I know it's very frustrating.
- 4:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:05SPEAKER_09: So for them to be clogged when you're used to being uh you know clear.
- 4:11SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 4:12SPEAKER_09: You know, it it's it's it would it would suck.
- 4:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:15SPEAKER_09: Because it took it took me a long time to get used to the that's constantly in my ears.
- 4:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 4:21SPEAKER_09: You know, now I don't even know.
- 4:23SPEAKER_11: So is it like tinnitus?
- 4:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 4:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:25SPEAKER_09: I'm pretty sure I could get raided by the VA, but I just haven't got around to it.
- 4:30SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:30SPEAKER_09: Cause I've always given the middle finger to the VA.
- 4:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 4:33SPEAKER_09: So, but that's another story for another time.
- 4:36SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 4:36SPEAKER_09: That's for my other podcast with Teresa.
- 4:42SPEAKER_09: Remember when I said that about the VA, Teresa?
- 4:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I know they suck.
- 4:49SPEAKER_11: So um then he played uh basketball games last weekend, Friday and Saturday, and Friday looked like death warmed over.
- 4:56SPEAKER_11: I mean his his he was just pale, and they they played him like for two minutes and then took him out and let him sit, and then they played him for another two minutes and then took him out.
- 5:04SPEAKER_11: You know, probably a good idea.
- 5:06SPEAKER_11: Both days, you know, and and he was not himself.
- 5:09SPEAKER_11: He played tonight, they won, but he he's not gonna listen to this podcast.
- 5:14SPEAKER_11: He didn't play well.
- 5:15SPEAKER_09: Well, I mean he's probably still out of it.
- 5:17SPEAKER_09: He's out of shape.
- 5:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 5:18SPEAKER_11: He's out of shape because he he hasn't, I mean, he's gone to a couple practices, but um he's just he's still th frail and thin and because he's he lost weight.
- 5:26SPEAKER_11: Well, because he was home.
- 5:28SPEAKER_09: Then again, he can't lose weight.
- 5:30SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 5:30SPEAKER_09: Because there's really nothing to him as is.
- 5:32SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 5:33SPEAKER_09: I mean, I've never seen bone flex before until I met Eli.
- 5:36SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 5:37SPEAKER_09: You know, so I mean, you know, the boy needs he needs some fudge.
- 5:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 5:40SPEAKER_11: Well, he eats a sandwich.
- 5:42SPEAKER_11: Trust me, he eats plenty.
- 5:43SPEAKER_11: Okay, he needs he need Yeah.
- 5:45SPEAKER_11: He wasn't eating plenty when he was coming down off the wisdom TV.
- 5:49SPEAKER_09: He needs to go on my workout uh plan, uh Body by Burger King.
- 5:52SPEAKER_09: So he needs he needs that.
- 5:54SPEAKER_09: But we need a Burger King.
- 5:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we need a Burger King, so that's not gonna work.
- 5:57SPEAKER_11: Burger King! Right, get on it.
- 5:59SPEAKER_11: Get us a Burger King restaurant.
- 6:02SPEAKER_11: I worked at Burger King.
- 6:03SPEAKER_11: I remember that.
- 6:03SPEAKER_11: You know, and I every time, every time I ate at Burger King, you know, this is nothing I was gonna say this is nothing against Burger King, but maybe it is.
- 6:11SPEAKER_11: Every time I ate at Burger King, I got the crap.
- 6:14SPEAKER_09: Really?
- 6:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I never did.
- 6:15SPEAKER_09: I always loved it.
- 6:16SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, no, every single time.
- 6:18SPEAKER_11: I could eat other places, yeah.
- 6:20SPEAKER_11: You know, and and be okay.
- 6:22SPEAKER_09: But I I think it was just your Burger King.
- 6:24SPEAKER_11: Maybe.
- 6:25SPEAKER_09: Because it really It wasn't good to start with.
- 6:29SPEAKER_11: It was great.
- 6:29SPEAKER_11: It was the whole place, like the tables were greasy.
- 6:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah, everything everything was covered in a layer of grease.
- 6:36SPEAKER_09: Yes, it was yeah, you know, and you know, it is what it is, but it's just it's but that one was just not good.
- 6:45SPEAKER_11: Not good.
- 6:45SPEAKER_11: No, you know, it was okay when I was there, because I was there as a freshman in high school.
- 6:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_11: And you know, it was my job to clean the tables, and you know, I think I did a pretty darn good job.
- 6:55SPEAKER_11: But over time, it yeah after you know, after I left and and uh years later, it just deteriorated.
- 7:02SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, towards the end, it was awful.
- 7:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it was really awful.
- 7:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it really was.
- 7:07SPEAKER_11: How did we get on the topic?
- 7:08SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah, Eli Eats.
- 7:09SPEAKER_09: Eli Eli needs eat a sandwich.
- 7:11SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's the name of the podcast.
- 7:13SPEAKER_09: Eli Needs to Eat a Sandwich.
- 7:15SPEAKER_11: Well don't uh Eli eat a sandwich.
- 7:18SPEAKER_11: How about that?
- 7:18SPEAKER_09: Eli.
- 7:20SPEAKER_09: Eat a sandwich.
- 7:21SPEAKER_11: There we go.
- 7:22SPEAKER_11: There we go.
- 7:22SPEAKER_11: He's gonna love that.
- 7:23SPEAKER_09: I know you will.
- 7:24SPEAKER_11: For sure.
- 7:24SPEAKER_09: Because he's not gonna listen to it anyway.
- 7:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah, this is true.
- 7:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 7:27SPEAKER_11: Um, so let's see, what else?
- 7:29SPEAKER_11: So that yeah, so our Thanksgiving he didn't go to Thanksgiving.
- 7:32SPEAKER_11: Um, so he stayed here, and we all went down and ate.
- 7:36SPEAKER_09: Wow, that's serious.
- 7:37SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 7:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 7:38SPEAKER_11: Um, and it's because uh Did you bring back a turkey sandwich?
- 7:41SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, we brought him back all kinds of food.
- 7:42SPEAKER_11: Okay, good.
- 7:43SPEAKER_11: But you know, uh both of her both of my wife's parents are gonna be 80, and one of them is uh recovering from cancer.
- 7:50SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 7:51SPEAKER_11: And so we weren't taking any chances.
- 7:53SPEAKER_11: Sure.
- 7:54SPEAKER_11: You know, um I mean yes, he's on antibiotics, so he probably would have been okay.
- 7:59SPEAKER_11: But we weren't taking any chances.
- 8:01SPEAKER_11: No, I get that.
- 8:02SPEAKER_11: So uh he uh stayed home and wasn't happy about it.
- 8:06SPEAKER_11: Uh I can't blame him.
- 8:08SPEAKER_11: Um but he took one for the team and uh so yeah, that was my Thanksgiving.
- 8:14SPEAKER_11: We came we came home and then Oh, we did our our annual Thanksgiving tradition.
- 8:20SPEAKER_11: And I say that because we've done it two years now.
- 8:22SPEAKER_09: Well it's annual then.
- 8:24SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 8:24SPEAKER_11: So after Thanksgiving dinner, we come home, we crash for a little bit, and then around six or seven o'clock at night, uh we go to the high school gym and shoot baskets.
- 8:38SPEAKER_11: Oh so it's just us.
- 8:39SPEAKER_11: There's nobody else in there.
- 8:40SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 8:41SPEAKER_11: Um you know, all the lights are off when we go in.
- 8:44SPEAKER_11: We get in and you know, we practice foul shots and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 8:48SPEAKER_11: Of course, me shooting a foul shot, it's quite funny to watch.
- 8:51SPEAKER_09: Um I don't even remember last time I shot a foul shot.
- 8:54SPEAKER_09: I know.
- 8:54SPEAKER_09: I don't even remember last time I played basketball.
- 8:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah, well, I didn't play basketball.
- 8:58SPEAKER_11: Or and I don't play basketball when we go there.
- 9:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 9:01SPEAKER_11: We just shoot around.
- 9:02SPEAKER_09: Oh that's that's fine.
- 9:03SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we just shoot around.
- 9:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 9:04SPEAKER_11: Because uh I I can't play basketball.
- 9:06SPEAKER_09: I never did.
- 9:07SPEAKER_09: I never I went to basketball camp in like sixth grade.
- 9:10SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 9:10SPEAKER_09: Maybe fifth grade too.
- 9:12SPEAKER_09: I don't remember.
- 9:14SPEAKER_09: But I mean, I liked it, but it's not like I was like captain basketball.
- 9:20SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 9:21SPEAKER_09: I mean, I'm not I'm not a I'm not built for speed.
- 9:23SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 9:24SPEAKER_09: I never have been.
- 9:25SPEAKER_11: I w I was on a basketball team in junior high.
- 9:31SPEAKER_11: I don't know, I don't remember what team.
- 9:33SPEAKER_11: Whether it was a rec or whether it was junior high basketball.
- 9:36SPEAKER_09: Well, it's probably junior high because they didn't have rec teams back then.
- 9:39SPEAKER_11: Well, here's the th here's what I remember.
- 9:41SPEAKER_11: I remember going to a practice, a few practices, and enjoying it.
- 9:45SPEAKER_11: I mean, it's a nice, it's a good workout, you know.
- 9:48SPEAKER_11: But it I it just didn't feel right.
- 9:51SPEAKER_11: So I personally went up to Chappie Clark.
- 9:55SPEAKER_09: Oh, this was a Marcel.
- 9:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 9:56SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, so it was definitely junior high then.
- 9:58SPEAKER_11: And I said, uh, yeah, I'm not coming back.
- 10:03SPEAKER_11: He's like, you're not gonna give it actually, no, I'm gonna give it a lot.
- 10:09SPEAKER_11: It's not for me.
- 10:09SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 10:10SPEAKER_07: Is he still around?
- 10:10SPEAKER_07: No.
- 10:11SPEAKER_07: Oh, he's not.
- 10:11SPEAKER_11: I didn't know that.
- 10:12SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 10:13SPEAKER_11: Um I love Chappie.
- 10:14SPEAKER_11: Everybody loved Chappie.
- 10:15SPEAKER_11: Oh, Chappie was great, yeah, absolutely.
- 10:17SPEAKER_11: Um But yeah, I I told him, I said, it's it's it's not for me.
- 10:22SPEAKER_11: And I knew, you know.
- 10:23SPEAKER_09: Well, Chappie was he was a basketball player.
- 10:25SPEAKER_09: I mean, he's he's in the Hussan Hall of Fame for basketball.
- 10:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 10:28SPEAKER_09: So I mean, you know, that was his thing.
- 10:30SPEAKER_09: And that was just it never because I worked for Chappie when I worked for the pool.
- 10:36SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_09: And uh, you know, he was always talking I mean even in the summertime, he's talking about basketball.
- 10:41SPEAKER_09: You you can't wait for the next season.
- 10:42SPEAKER_09: I'm like, man, you are like Mr.
- 10:45SPEAKER_11: Basketball.
- 10:46SPEAKER_11: But he was legendary.
- 10:46SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, he's legendary.
- 10:47SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, a legendary.
- 10:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, definitely legendary for sure.
- 10:50SPEAKER_11: So um, so yeah, so I was on the I'm on the basketball team uh for about five minutes, and uh I was on the soccer team in middle school, but those are the only sports I played.
- 11:02SPEAKER_09: I was on I was on the soccer team my senior year for two games.
- 11:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and then I got kicked out.
- 11:08SPEAKER_11: You got kicked out?
- 11:09SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 11:09SPEAKER_09: Oh because I failed algebra the year before.
- 11:11SPEAKER_11: Oh, so your yeah, your grades got you kicked out.
- 11:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 11:14SPEAKER_11: No, got kicked.
- 11:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I wasn't it wasn't like I dropped kicked the goalie or something.
- 11:19SPEAKER_09: So actually Gillen was the goalie at the time.
- 11:22SPEAKER_09: Was he?
- 11:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 11:22SPEAKER_09: So but I wouldn't drop Kev Cannon because he's our goalie.
- 11:25SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 11:26SPEAKER_11: Right, exactly.
- 11:28SPEAKER_09: So Well, I just joined the boot soccer team just to run because I was getting ready for boot camp.
- 11:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you know, the following summer.
- 11:34SPEAKER_11: So you'd get in shape, sort of.
- 11:35SPEAKER_09: I was yeah, I wanted to start getting in shape.
- 11:37SPEAKER_09: So that's what that was the only reason I joined.
- 11:39SPEAKER_11: Sure.
- 11:39SPEAKER_09: Because I remember the first day, because we played, you know, because it starts before school starts.
- 11:43SPEAKER_09: And then I remember walking into school the first day of school, and Mr.
- 11:47SPEAKER_09: Brown meeting me at the door and said, Hey, Cronkite, you're off the team.
- 11:50SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 11:52SPEAKER_07: He just walked off and I walked off.
- 11:54SPEAKER_07: That was it.
- 11:57SPEAKER_07: Wow.
- 11:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 11:59SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 12:01SPEAKER_11: Um, what is this?
- 12:02SPEAKER_11: All right, so soccer.
- 12:04SPEAKER_11: I played basketball for five minutes, and then I played I did play baseball like uh in in uh they wanted me to do trailing for a while.
- 12:12SPEAKER_11: They wanted you to do wait, seriously?
- 12:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 12:14SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's true because Corey was in the side.
- 12:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah, Tilly was in uh the on the trailing squad.
- 12:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:19SPEAKER_09: Uh I mean I could have done it, but I was just too busy with martial arts and you know, I just didn't have time for it.
- 12:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:25SPEAKER_09: But I mean it was kind of fun.
- 12:26SPEAKER_09: I went to uh I went to a practice.
- 12:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:29SPEAKER_09: I remember learning how to pick pick a girl up and hold her like you know, do the like the you hold them up and they do the little thingy there.
- 12:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:38SPEAKER_09: I remember learning how to do that, and I was I could I could do it.
- 12:41SPEAKER_09: I just didn't have time for it.
- 12:42SPEAKER_11: I'm not sure if people made fun of Corey for that.
- 12:45SPEAKER_11: I don't think so.
- 12:45SPEAKER_11: But I was gonna say he didn't care.
- 12:47SPEAKER_11: Well I was gonna say, he's a smart man.
- 12:49SPEAKER_09: Oh, absolutely.
- 12:50SPEAKER_09: I mean, you know, smartest guy around.
- 12:52SPEAKER_09: I was like, that's brilliant.
- 12:54SPEAKER_09: I was like kudos to you, sir.
- 12:59SPEAKER_11: Um hold on, my wife is asking me a question.
- 13:05SPEAKER_11: And I You don't know the answer.
- 13:08SPEAKER_11: Don't know.
- 13:09SPEAKER_10: Well, there you go.
- 13:12SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 13:13SPEAKER_07: Don't you know I'm doing a podcast here?
- 13:15SPEAKER_07: Yeah, we got stuffed out there.
- 13:16SPEAKER_07: Oh my goodness.
- 13:17SPEAKER_07: We're talking about we're talking about playing basketball as kids.
- 13:20SPEAKER_07: Middle school basketball.
- 13:21SPEAKER_07: Middle school basketball.
- 13:23SPEAKER_07: Because we got we got nothing.
- 13:25SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 13:26SPEAKER_11: So uh what else?
- 13:28SPEAKER_11: Uh so that was Thanksgiving.
- 13:29SPEAKER_11: Um, and then the games and all that stuff.
- 13:32SPEAKER_11: Uh yeah.
- 13:34SPEAKER_11: Uh so I have uh I did something cool though.
- 13:38SPEAKER_11: What did I do that was I don't know, did you do anything cool besides that, like after Thanksgiving?
- 13:43SPEAKER_11: Nope.
- 13:43SPEAKER_11: No.
- 13:45SPEAKER_11: Maybe it was just going to games.
- 13:46SPEAKER_09: I got into Yellowstone.
- 13:48SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's okay, so you got into it?
- 13:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 13:51SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 13:52SPEAKER_09: I finally I finally like broke down and like, I'm gonna check this out.
- 13:55SPEAKER_11: Let me see what everybody's talking about.
- 13:56SPEAKER_11: Okay, before you go, before you before you tell me your impressions before you tell me.
- 14:01SPEAKER_11: So I own them on DVD.
- 14:03SPEAKER_09: All of them?
- 14:04SPEAKER_11: Uh through four.
- 14:05SPEAKER_11: I don't think I have season five yet.
- 14:06SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 14:07SPEAKER_09: That's the last season, right?
- 14:09SPEAKER_11: Well, there's supposedly there's one that they're making that's the end.
- 14:13SPEAKER_11: Oh, okay.
- 14:14SPEAKER_11: Or something.
- 14:15SPEAKER_09: Why not they did like the prequels, like the 1883 and the 1923, which I want to watch.
- 14:20SPEAKER_11: I have I don't have 1923, but I have 1883, the whole thing.
- 14:23SPEAKER_09: Well, I like it just because it's Sam Elliott.
- 14:25SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 14:25SPEAKER_11: I love Sam Elliott.
- 14:26SPEAKER_11: Um, so I watched Yellowstone, and I think it was no, because that was Stranger Things.
- 14:33SPEAKER_11: I started watching Yellowstone while I was still sleeping down here.
- 14:36SPEAKER_09: Well, I think you you started watching when you had COVID, right?
- 14:39SPEAKER_11: Maybe that's maybe you're right.
- 14:40SPEAKER_11: Maybe you're right.
- 14:41SPEAKER_11: Because I know I watched Stranger Things when I had COVID.
- 14:43SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 14:44SPEAKER_11: Um, but I started watching it, and here's what I'll say about Yellowstone.
- 14:49SPEAKER_11: Um it's incredibly well made.
- 14:52SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 14:53SPEAKER_11: Um very well written.
- 14:55SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 14:56SPEAKER_11: Uh great character development.
- 15:00SPEAKER_11: Um the scenery is gorgeous.
- 15:03SPEAKER_11: I want to go I want to go to Montana.
- 15:04SPEAKER_11: Oh, for sure.
- 15:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah, for sure.
- 15:05SPEAKER_11: Beautiful.
- 15:06SPEAKER_11: Uh the only thing that I don't like about it is everybody's pure evil?
- 15:14unknown: Yeah.
- 15:15SPEAKER_09: Well, I mean it's like Except for the grandson.
- 15:17SPEAKER_07: I don't need but even he's got like the killing.
- 15:23SPEAKER_09: Like, without conscience.
- 15:25SPEAKER_09: It's it's the old West.
- 15:27SPEAKER_09: It's basically a modern Western.
- 15:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah, for sure.
- 15:30SPEAKER_09: You know, it's it's basically tombstone on stairway.
- 15:32SPEAKER_11: But I think it changed me.
- 15:34SPEAKER_11: Like like I watched a lot of it, and then it was just like, I just feel icky because I like it.
- 15:44SPEAKER_11: So I stopped watching it.
- 15:46SPEAKER_11: And since then I've gone back and and watched I don't think I've seen all of season four.
- 15:53SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 15:53SPEAKER_09: I'm on season three right now.
- 15:54SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I don't think I've seen all of season four.
- 15:56SPEAKER_11: But it's it's fantastic.
- 15:58SPEAKER_11: It's a really good show.
- 16:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 16:00SPEAKER_09: I mean, I can do without the language.
- 16:02SPEAKER_09: I mean, uh that I that that bugs me because I don't need that.
- 16:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:05SPEAKER_09: And you know, I don't need the sex scenes.
- 16:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 16:08SPEAKER_09: And but I mean, but I mean the story is good.
- 16:11SPEAKER_09: The story is good.
- 16:12SPEAKER_09: And the characters are good, but they're all evil, man.
- 16:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 16:14SPEAKER_09: There is nobody good in that show.
- 16:16SPEAKER_11: This is true.
- 16:17SPEAKER_11: They're all backstabbing.
- 16:18SPEAKER_11: It's like a soap opera.
- 16:19SPEAKER_09: It is a soap opera.
- 16:20SPEAKER_09: Like I said, it's a modern day Western.
- 16:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 16:22SPEAKER_09: Except everybody's just socks.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:26SPEAKER_09: You know, you you can't you can't side with anybody.
- 16:29SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 16:30SPEAKER_09: Because they're all of them are just bad people.
- 16:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 16:33SPEAKER_09: Seriously.
- 16:34SPEAKER_09: I mean, just just all of them.
- 16:36SPEAKER_09: So I mean, you like them, you know, you you like them in a in a way, but you're you're all just like, man, you are all freaking effed up.
- 16:43SPEAKER_11: It's true.
- 16:44SPEAKER_11: You know?
- 16:44SPEAKER_11: It's true.
- 16:45SPEAKER_11: It's messed up.
- 16:46SPEAKER_11: Um excuse me.
- 16:47SPEAKER_11: And so so I got 1883.
- 16:49SPEAKER_11: I watched one or two episodes of that.
- 16:52SPEAKER_11: I I like it.
- 16:53SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 16:53SPEAKER_11: I want to finish it.
- 16:54SPEAKER_11: I just don't have time.
- 16:55SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 16:56SPEAKER_11: You know, to to do that.
- 16:57SPEAKER_11: I have not seen the one with Harrison Ford, 1920.
- 17:00SPEAKER_09: Is the 1923 one?
- 17:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 17:02SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 17:02SPEAKER_11: It's with Harrison Ford and uh I think that's fairly new.
- 17:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 17:05SPEAKER_11: Well, I think it's a few years old, actually.
- 17:07SPEAKER_11: Is it?
- 17:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 17:08SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 17:08SPEAKER_11: A couple two years old.
- 17:09SPEAKER_09: I just I just saw it right.
- 17:10SPEAKER_09: I was like, what the heck is this?
- 17:11SPEAKER_11: Two or three years old.
- 17:12SPEAKER_09: It's like a next prequel.
- 17:15SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 17:15SPEAKER_11: Like prequel to the prequel.
- 17:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 17:16SPEAKER_09: Well, no, no.
- 17:17SPEAKER_09: No, no, no, no.
- 17:18SPEAKER_09: No, 1883 would be the prequel.
- 17:19SPEAKER_09: Right, right, right, right.
- 17:20SPEAKER_09: That would be like the continuation of the prequel, yeah.
- 17:23SPEAKER_11: Um but I will tell you, I started watching watch two episodes now of a new series from Taylor Sheridan, who created Yellowstone and writes Yellowstone.
- 17:33SPEAKER_11: And I really like it so far.
- 17:37SPEAKER_11: It's it's the same thing.
- 17:38SPEAKER_11: It's well written.
- 17:40SPEAKER_11: It's I could do without all the swearing as well.
- 17:43SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 17:43SPEAKER_11: But it's it's called Land Man.
- 17:46SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, with Billy Bob Thornton.
- 17:47SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 17:48SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 17:48SPEAKER_11: I heard I heard it's pretty good.
- 17:49SPEAKER_11: I watched two episodes and I want to keep going.
- 17:52SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 17:52SPEAKER_11: I mean, it hooks you.
- 17:53SPEAKER_11: Oh, I'm sure.
- 17:54SPEAKER_11: You know, it's he has a way of kind of it's like a cliffhanger.
- 17:58SPEAKER_11: Sure.
- 17:58SPEAKER_11: You know?
- 17:59SPEAKER_11: Um, but it's the character development, I think, that's yeah.
- 18:03SPEAKER_09: I mean, he has really strong characters.
- 18:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 18:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 18:06SPEAKER_11: And you get drawn into it.
- 18:07SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 18:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 18:08SPEAKER_11: There is a lot of swearing in this one.
- 18:10SPEAKER_11: Of course there's.
- 18:10SPEAKER_11: But there's no like real killing.
- 18:13SPEAKER_11: There's no killing.
- 18:14SPEAKER_11: Yet.
- 18:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 18:15SPEAKER_11: And you're right though, there are characters.
- 18:19SPEAKER_11: There are, I think there are probably a couple of good characters.
- 18:23SPEAKER_11: But they're all um.
- 18:29SPEAKER_11: Well, you know, Bill Billy Bob Th Thornton is a is a um alcoholic.
- 18:34SPEAKER_11: Uh recovering alcoholic, I guess.
- 18:36SPEAKER_11: Oh no, alcoholic.
- 18:37SPEAKER_11: He's an alcoholic.
- 18:38SPEAKER_11: Divorced.
- 18:39SPEAKER_11: Um, still in love with his wife, who's remarried.
- 18:43SPEAKER_11: Um, but throws around, you know, uh the all these corporate deals, oil deals and things like that, like millions of dollars, and and he doesn't have you know, it's like he's in charge of all this stuff.
- 18:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 18:56SPEAKER_11: But he's like a miserable human, but you feel for him.
- 19:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and and that's the same thing with Yellowstone.
- 19:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 19:03SPEAKER_09: I think that's the genius of uh uh Taylor Sheridan.
- 19:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 19:07SPEAKER_09: He just he just develops these characters, he writes to these characters that you're just you get sucked into their lives, yeah, even though they're all the you know despicable people.
- 19:15SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 19:16SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 19:16SPEAKER_11: And and and Billy Bob Thornton's character is is rough around the edges.
- 19:20SPEAKER_11: I'm sure.
- 19:21SPEAKER_11: But it's like you're cheering him on, you know, it's it's I guess it's hard to describe.
- 19:26SPEAKER_11: Um and then uh of course his daughter is in it, and she's really cute.
- 19:31SPEAKER_11: Um and he lives with his lawyer.
- 19:37SPEAKER_11: Uh well, no, uh, it's like it's like um he is like the uh he's like the guy in charge.
- 19:46SPEAKER_11: He answers to the oil man who's John Ham.
- 19:49SPEAKER_11: John Ham is like lives away in a mansion with Demi Moore, his wife.
- 19:53SPEAKER_11: Oh, not true.
- 19:54SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 19:54SPEAKER_11: Who wouldn't say?
- 19:55SPEAKER_11: And and so he so he you know he'll call he'll call John Ham and say, um, we had a blowout at this oil rig.
- 20:04SPEAKER_11: Uh I think we I think we uh need to uh pay the families um, you know, uh because you know we l well they lost a whole family and blah blah blah.
- 20:12SPEAKER_11: I was like, how much?
- 20:14SPEAKER_11: 250,000 each.
- 20:15SPEAKER_11: He's like, all right, make it happen.
- 20:17SPEAKER_11: You know, and so so he goes home and he tells the lawyer, who's the lawyer for John Ham, yeah, you know, make this happen.
- 20:24SPEAKER_11: So he's gonna make it happen.
- 20:26SPEAKER_11: And he also lives with another guy.
- 20:29SPEAKER_11: They're they're just it's like they're they're they're I don't know, it's like a company house or something.
- 20:34SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 20:34SPEAKER_11: I don't know why they live together, and maybe we'll find out.
- 20:36SPEAKER_11: It's like a frat house.
- 20:37SPEAKER_11: Maybe, yeah.
- 20:38SPEAKER_11: Um but it's it's I I just like I just want to watch it again.
- 20:44SPEAKER_11: Sure.
- 20:44SPEAKER_11: That's the thing.
- 20:45SPEAKER_11: So that's and if if once you find a show like that, it's like Stranger Things.
- 20:49SPEAKER_11: Stranger Things was odd to me.
- 20:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 20:51SPEAKER_11: Um but I want I can wanted to keep watching it.
- 20:54SPEAKER_11: It's like like yeah, yeah, it's like sucked into it.
- 20:57SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 20:58SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 20:58SPEAKER_11: Uh so so but yeah, I I'm I'm glad you started watching Yellowstone.
- 21:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah, me too.
- 21:03SPEAKER_09: I'm I'm enjoying it.
- 21:05SPEAKER_11: Um and uh Yeah, you probably can't get Land Man, can you?
- 21:10SPEAKER_11: You can?
- 21:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so I'm Paramount.
- 21:12SPEAKER_09: Oh, you have Paramount?
- 21:13SPEAKER_09: I do.
- 21:13SPEAKER_11: Oh, cool, cool.
- 21:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so uh yeah, I I would recommend that.
- 21:17SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 21:17SPEAKER_11: For sure.
- 21:18SPEAKER_08: All right.
- 21:18SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see what else happened.
- 21:20SPEAKER_11: I had my last guitar class yesterday.
- 21:22SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah, I had to go.
- 21:23SPEAKER_11: It went very well.
- 21:24SPEAKER_11: I mean, uh, it was every every Monday night.
- 21:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 21:27SPEAKER_11: I was taking a class at uh you main Augusta online.
- 21:30SPEAKER_11: Um this it was basically it was just a hang.
- 21:34SPEAKER_11: It was just two guitar guitar guys hanging uh on Skype.
- 21:38SPEAKER_11: And so uh he can't believe somebody that's still using Skype.
- 21:42SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 21:42SPEAKER_11: He would have his guitar, I'd have my guitar, and and he'd show me stuff, and I learned a lot, and it has improved my playing, um, I think.
- 21:51SPEAKER_11: But last night was the was the last one, so and he's he's a really cool guy, it's named Scott Hughes, uh bluesy player.
- 21:59SPEAKER_11: Mm hmm.
- 22:00SPEAKER_11: Um which was just like me.
- 22:02SPEAKER_11: True.
- 22:02SPEAKER_11: And so I said we got to like the last fight.
- 22:07SPEAKER_11: And he always commented because I did my class down here.
- 22:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 22:10SPEAKER_11: And he saw the Van Halen in the background.
- 22:12SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 22:13SPEAKER_11: And he's he he would always say, like, I know you like Eddie Van Halen, you got the Van Halen in the background, and he'd say, Well, Eddie used to do this, and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
- 22:21SPEAKER_11: You know.
- 22:22SPEAKER_11: But his playing was not really like Eddie.
- 22:24SPEAKER_11: He's a bluesy.
- 22:25SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 22:25SPEAKER_11: Of course Eddie's kind of bluesy too, but um so last night I said, in the little time that we have left, Scott, I'm I want to kind of get some like I want to get to know you.
- 22:38SPEAKER_11: Like, who are your favorite players?
- 22:40SPEAKER_11: What what is uh what is something that you recommend um you know uh that I can listen to and learn from and blah blah blah blah.
- 22:49SPEAKER_11: And so he starts going off on this whole Scott Henderson thing.
- 22:52SPEAKER_11: Scott Henderson's a great blues guitar player, Stevie Ray, you know, um Well you can't play blues and not like Stevie Ray.
- 22:59SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 22:59SPEAKER_11: Jimmy Herring, Robin Ford, Jeff Beck, Steely Dan, Larry Carlton, you know, blah blah blah.
- 23:05SPEAKER_11: And uh so I said, he's he's a very sophisticated, you know, but uh player, but you know, so I said, I so what who who's your favorite?
- 23:14SPEAKER_11: Who's your favorite guitar player?
- 23:16SPEAKER_11: He's like, oh, my favorite.
- 23:17SPEAKER_11: Um if I had to pick it, I'd be Eddie Van Halen.
- 23:20SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 23:21SPEAKER_11: It's like what?
- 23:22unknown: What?
- 23:23SPEAKER_11: You're talking to me about all these jazz guys, right?
- 23:26SPEAKER_11: And and you like it?
- 23:27SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, I mean, that's the stuff that I grew up on, you know.
- 23:29SPEAKER_09: Well, that'd say it.
- 23:30SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:31SPEAKER_11: He's I mean, I think he's he's probably I don't know, five, six uh years older than me.
- 23:38SPEAKER_11: Um I would guess.
- 23:39SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 23:40SPEAKER_11: I I never asked him, but yeah, it's uh it just kind of threw him.
- 23:43SPEAKER_11: It's like, you're an Eddie freak?
- 23:45SPEAKER_11: And then he's like, Yeah, man.
- 23:47SPEAKER_11: And then I uh so we we finished, we said, you know, it's it's been great, and blah, blah, blah.
- 23:51SPEAKER_11: So I found him on Facebook and I friended him.
- 23:55SPEAKER_11: All of his pictures are Eddie.
- 23:58SPEAKER_11: There you go.
- 23:58SPEAKER_11: It's like, I wish you would have told me sooner.
- 24:00SPEAKER_11: We would have bombed it even more.
- 24:03SPEAKER_11: Uh, but yeah, super cool guy.
- 24:05SPEAKER_11: Um, and like I said, I learned a lot.
- 24:07SPEAKER_11: So hopefully I can apply that somewhere.
- 24:09SPEAKER_11: Sweet.
- 24:10SPEAKER_09: Um, I've been dreaming uh the biography of uh Jeff Pocaro.
- 24:15SPEAKER_09: Have you really?
- 24:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's really really interesting.
- 24:17SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:18SPEAKER_09: He was he's really, really super.
- 24:19SPEAKER_09: I mean, not just a you know, super talented drummer, but also super talented, like writer and ranger and very theatric, and yeah, yeah.
- 24:27SPEAKER_09: So it's it's a nice nice look at his life.
- 24:30SPEAKER_11: Is that a relatively new one or is that an older one?
- 24:32SPEAKER_09: I think it was written maybe 10, 15 years ago.
- 24:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 24:36SPEAKER_09: It's been around for a while, but it's not very it's not very thick because they did, you know, he died young.
- 24:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 24:40SPEAKER_09: Uh so, but I mean, you know, the body of work that that man did.
- 24:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 24:45SPEAKER_09: Because I mean, he was session drumming in like at 16.
- 24:48SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 24:49SPEAKER_09: He was on Sonny and Chair's touring band at like 16, 17.
- 24:54SPEAKER_11: He's the reason Steve Lucather and his and and like David Page got into session work.
- 24:58SPEAKER_09: Yes, he got him in there.
- 24:59SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 24:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah, he would he would they would hire him to play, and he'd they'd be like, you know anybody play guitar or keyboards?
- 25:05SPEAKER_09: Like, ah, I got 'em.
- 25:06SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 25:06SPEAKER_09: And he'd bring them in.
- 25:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it was it was great.
- 25:08SPEAKER_09: It's a great story.
- 25:09SPEAKER_09: Did you ever watch that?
- 25:10SPEAKER_09: Maybe we watched together.
- 25:12SPEAKER_11: The um they do a uh like a round table uh uh sunset sound where uh Steve Lucuther is like the spotlight, and then you have a guy that's asking questions, and then you have a couple mixers.
- 25:24SPEAKER_11: Did we watch that together?
- 25:25SPEAKER_11: We did.
- 25:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah, okay.
- 25:26SPEAKER_11: It's been a while, yeah.
- 25:27SPEAKER_11: Because I watched I watched a clip from it, and he told a story that I hadn't I don't remember seeing in that interview, but maybe it was hilarious.
- 25:36SPEAKER_11: Oh, I'm sure.
- 25:37SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 25:38SPEAKER_11: Anyway.
- 25:39SPEAKER_11: Um, so that's my guitar class.
- 25:42SPEAKER_11: We talked about Thanksgiving.
- 25:44SPEAKER_11: Uh musically, what's going on?
- 25:45SPEAKER_11: So we had a gig.
- 25:47SPEAKER_11: Oh, we had a couple gig.
- 25:49SPEAKER_11: No, we had a gig.
- 25:49SPEAKER_11: One gig.
- 25:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we've only had one gig.
- 25:51SPEAKER_11: One gig since since um and I think it went well.
- 25:55SPEAKER_11: We it was uh I thought it was well.
- 25:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 25:57SPEAKER_11: That Ferris Barbecue.
- 25:58SPEAKER_11: That was fun.
- 25:59SPEAKER_11: Um very generous.
- 26:01SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah, very generous.
- 26:02SPEAKER_11: Yes, yes, they were very generous.
- 26:04SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 26:05SPEAKER_11: I don't think the next gig that we have is gonna be that generous.
- 26:07SPEAKER_09: No.
- 26:08SPEAKER_09: But it might be.
- 26:08SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's it's right, it's right almost before Christmas, and people tend to be a little more giving during the holidays.
- 26:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we'll see.
- 26:18SPEAKER_11: We'll see.
- 26:18SPEAKER_11: Um but uh it is their competition.
- 26:22SPEAKER_11: We're playing it kind of their competition.
- 26:24SPEAKER_09: Well, I know that, but I mean that's you know, that's not that that has nothing to do with us.
- 26:28SPEAKER_11: So uh Amy, who went to our show.
- 26:30SPEAKER_11: Do you remember Amy?
- 26:31SPEAKER_11: Nope.
- 26:32SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you do?
- 26:32SPEAKER_11: She came up and gave you a hug.
- 26:34SPEAKER_11: She gave who a hug?
- 26:34SPEAKER_11: You a hug.
- 26:35SPEAKER_11: Oh, Amy, yeah, yeah, yeah, Amy.
- 26:37SPEAKER_11: So uh I ran into her husband at the game tonight.
- 26:41SPEAKER_11: And we're walk he was walking downstairs.
- 26:42SPEAKER_11: I was walking up and he's he asked me, he said, Are you guys gonna play there uh again?
- 26:47SPEAKER_11: And I said, I I hope so.
- 26:48SPEAKER_11: I think I she wants to have us back.
- 26:51SPEAKER_11: And uh he says and he says, I think it's great.
- 26:53SPEAKER_11: You know, it's it's a great night out, you know.
- 26:56SPEAKER_11: And I said, Yeah, I thought we uh you know, we weren't too loud and you know, people enjoyed their food and while we were saying he says, Yeah, I think it's I think it's really great.
- 27:04SPEAKER_11: He says, We went there last week uh when Adam Oulette was there.
- 27:08SPEAKER_11: I was like, Oh Adam's awesome.
- 27:10SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:12SPEAKER_11: I said, He's got the whole kit and caboodle and it's like oh he just had a guitar.
- 27:17SPEAKER_11: He just sang with a guitar.
- 27:19SPEAKER_11: I said, Well, he didn't have any speakers.
- 27:21SPEAKER_11: Well, yeah, he had speakers, you know, but he just brought his guitar.
- 27:24SPEAKER_11: He didn't, you know.
- 27:24SPEAKER_11: And I said, Well, you know, that's all he does.
- 27:27SPEAKER_11: That's all Adam does.
- 27:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 27:28SPEAKER_11: Is is make a living as a as a performer.
- 27:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 27:31SPEAKER_11: Um he's like, Yeah, oh I know.
- 27:33SPEAKER_11: I said, Yeah, he's pretty awesome.
- 27:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 27:35SPEAKER_11: He is.
- 27:35SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 27:36SPEAKER_11: He is the king.
- 27:36SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 27:37SPEAKER_11: So that I thought that was kind of cool that Adam had played there.
- 27:40SPEAKER_11: I didn't realize he'd play there.
- 27:42SPEAKER_11: And so uh so yeah, our next one is at uh Maple Pig.
- 27:46SPEAKER_11: Um, I'm not sure.
- 27:48SPEAKER_11: Um, you you already told me where they're gonna put us.
- 27:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 27:51SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 27:51SPEAKER_11: So that should be fun.
- 27:52SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I I think I think it's gonna be alright.
- 27:54SPEAKER_11: We have yeah, we have a ball.
- 27:55SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 27:56SPEAKER_11: We'll make it, we'll make it fun.
- 27:57SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 27:57SPEAKER_11: We do need to learn some new songs, though, I think.
- 27:59SPEAKER_11: Why?
- 28:01SPEAKER_09: It only takes us like six seconds to learn a song anyway.
- 28:04SPEAKER_11: So I'm this is true.
- 28:05SPEAKER_11: So we did do a couple uh the other night that we hadn't really done.
- 28:09SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 28:09SPEAKER_09: So I mean I that's that's why I don't worry about it.
- 28:11SPEAKER_09: You're always like, we need to learn new songs.
- 28:13SPEAKER_09: I'm like, we'll just make them up as we go.
- 28:15SPEAKER_09: That's all we always do.
- 28:16SPEAKER_09: You're always like, we can we can take requests, and then people take requests, and we're like, oh, we never played this, but we'll give it a shot.
- 28:22SPEAKER_09: And then we nail it, and then we're like, hey, we should put that in the set, and then we go and then we do the same thing the next show.
- 28:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you know, we don't do that song again, you know.
- 28:29SPEAKER_09: Right, right.
- 28:30SPEAKER_09: If we did all if we put all the requests in, we could have like a five, six hour short.
- 28:34SPEAKER_11: This is this is true.
- 28:34SPEAKER_11: You know, so but you know, yeah, this is true.
- 28:37SPEAKER_11: Um, but anyway, uh it was good.
- 28:39SPEAKER_11: We had a good gig.
- 28:40SPEAKER_11: It was so fantastical.
- 28:41SPEAKER_11: What else?
- 28:42SPEAKER_11: What else musically?
- 28:43SPEAKER_11: We have a um trying to schedule a skinny Elvis practice.
- 28:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 28:48SPEAKER_11: Um Syndicate at Syndicate uh New Year's Eve.
- 28:52SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 28:52SPEAKER_09: That's gonna be that's gonna be a Charlie Fox try.
- 28:55SPEAKER_09: I think so.
- 28:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 28:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I can't wait.
- 28:57SPEAKER_11: So the city has and I don't know if the city listens to this podcast.
- 29:01SPEAKER_11: They doubt it.
- 29:02SPEAKER_11: I highly doubt it.
- 29:03SPEAKER_11: Um they are bringing back the dropping of the star on New Year's Eve, the whole uh Dick Clark thing dropping.
- 29:12SPEAKER_09: Hope they drop it on somebody, right?
- 29:14SPEAKER_11: That would make that would make more fun.
- 29:16SPEAKER_11: Make it more fun.
- 29:16SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 29:17SPEAKER_11: Um not to hurt them.
- 29:18SPEAKER_09: I mean make it more like a bouncy castle.
- 29:21SPEAKER_09: You know, you know.
- 29:23SPEAKER_11: So they're doing this big shindig, and they hired the syndicate to play 9 30 to 12 30?
- 29:30SPEAKER_09: Is that right?
- 29:30SPEAKER_09: 1215 or something.
- 29:31SPEAKER_09: Something like that.
- 29:32SPEAKER_09: Something stupid.
- 29:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 29:33SPEAKER_11: On Main Street, under a tent, with heaters, um on New Year's Eve, in which is January.
- 29:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's gonna be so bad.
- 29:46SPEAKER_11: Or December and January.
- 29:47SPEAKER_11: It's gonna be so bad.
- 29:49SPEAKER_11: And I've got to thinking about the people that live in apartments on Main Street.
- 29:55SPEAKER_11: What if they don't want to celebrate New Year's Eve?
- 29:58SPEAKER_11: Well.
- 29:58SPEAKER_11: They don't really have a choice, do they?
- 30:00SPEAKER_11: It sucks to be them.
- 30:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 30:01SPEAKER_11: Better go find someplace else to be.
- 30:02SPEAKER_11: Does would the city have to kind of notify them?
- 30:05SPEAKER_11: You know, like, hello, just a public service announcement.
- 30:08SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's not it's not quiet on Main Street anyway.
- 30:11SPEAKER_11: Well it's this is a little bit different than being quiet.
- 30:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 30:16SPEAKER_11: You know?
- 30:16SPEAKER_09: They have stuff on Main Street all the time.
- 30:18SPEAKER_09: Remember when last summer when they shut down all Main Street?
- 30:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but was it midnight?
- 30:23SPEAKER_09: Well, I know that, but I mean, every it's may it's New Year's Eve.
- 30:26SPEAKER_09: Everybody kind of let you know lets things go.
- 30:29SPEAKER_11: So but your gut feeling is that it's gonna be something something stupid is gonna happen.
- 30:34SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 30:35SPEAKER_09: Or they're gonna want us to do something st it just it just it just sound there I mean they just started planning it.
- 30:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 30:42SPEAKER_11: That's true.
- 30:43SPEAKER_11: It's like weeks ago, yeah.
- 30:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 30:45SPEAKER_09: I mean, literally like within weeks of this thing, they're just like, hey, we should do something for New Year's Eve.
- 30:51SPEAKER_09: It's like if you and I were like, hey, let's go to Ireland tomorrow.
- 30:55SPEAKER_11: It's it's on that same level.
- 30:56SPEAKER_11: And on top of that, so we're playing on Main Street, which on Main Street is a hotel called the Northeastland.
- 31:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 31:04SPEAKER_11: And they have a band in the lounge.
- 31:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 31:07SPEAKER_11: So it's and their singer apparently is coming over to do a song with us.
- 31:12SPEAKER_11: A party band.
- 31:12SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 31:13SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 31:13SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 31:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 31:14SPEAKER_11: And and yeah, I think we should do the exchange.
- 31:17SPEAKER_09: I think that would be fun.
- 31:19SPEAKER_11: Dude, what do you mean?
- 31:20SPEAKER_09: Uh well, if she's coming to sing with us, then one of us should go and sing with them.
- 31:24SPEAKER_09: I think that would be sure.
- 31:26SPEAKER_09: It's like a you know, like a you know, do an exchange program.
- 31:30SPEAKER_11: Um, we should have Missy Melissa go down and sing a song with them.
- 31:33SPEAKER_11: I gotta, man.
- 31:34SPEAKER_11: She'd kill it.
- 31:34SPEAKER_11: She would.
- 31:35SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 31:35SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 31:36SPEAKER_11: She would, of course, they do Barracuda.
- 31:38SPEAKER_11: Oh Melissa could do Barracuda.
- 31:41SPEAKER_11: I've seen Melissa.
- 31:41SPEAKER_11: I've seen Melissa do Barracuda.
- 31:43SPEAKER_11: There you go.
- 31:44SPEAKER_11: She was in a band called Misdemeanor.
- 31:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 31:45SPEAKER_11: And she did Barracuda, and it was That'd be my boat.
- 31:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so I mean that's what we got coming up, and then of course we have some some stuff planned for for next year.
- 31:56SPEAKER_11: But let's get back to uh uh let's go to the ultimate classic rock because We missed them.
- 32:02SPEAKER_11: We do have a list, an article here called The Best Song from Every Billy Joel album.
- 32:09SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 32:09SPEAKER_09: I like Billy Joel.
- 32:10SPEAKER_11: I love Billy Joel.
- 32:11SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 32:12SPEAKER_11: Um Billy Joel doesn't love Billy Joel.
- 32:15SPEAKER_11: His voice anyway, but I don't know any.
- 32:16SPEAKER_09: Well, Billy Joel is just like that.
- 32:18SPEAKER_09: I mean, he's he's not, I don't he's not rock starry.
- 32:22SPEAKER_11: This is true.
- 32:22SPEAKER_09: You know, he's just like a guy.
- 32:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 32:24SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 32:25SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 32:26SPEAKER_09: Like he tells us stories about, you know, when he was taking piano lessons, he, you know, he was telling people he was taking boxing lessons.
- 32:34SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 32:34SPEAKER_09: You know, stuff like that.
- 32:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 32:36SPEAKER_11: So Yeah.
- 32:38SPEAKER_11: Um But uh I was talking to Morton the other day in KMH because they got some new albums.
- 32:44SPEAKER_11: And I think there was a I think there was a Billy Joel album in there.
- 32:46SPEAKER_11: And he was talking about uh, you know how you know uh I love you just the way you are, don't go changing, yeah.
- 32:52SPEAKER_11: Whatever.
- 32:53SPEAKER_11: He's like, that's I I hate that song.
- 32:54SPEAKER_11: I said, Billy Joel hates that song.
- 32:56SPEAKER_11: I said there are two songs that Billy Joel can't stand that he wrote Just the Way You Are and My Life.
- 33:03SPEAKER_11: Oh really?
- 33:04SPEAKER_11: He can't stand those songs.
- 33:05SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 33:06SPEAKER_07: I have to say Blessed art thou!
- 33:10SPEAKER_11: Thank you.
- 33:11SPEAKER_11: Um so yeah, his first album, which is an underrated album, Cold Spring Harbor, 1971.
- 33:20SPEAKER_11: I have.
- 33:21SPEAKER_11: Um one of the his complaints about this album is that uh course there was there was a falling out with the producer and and everything, and they stole his money and blah blah blah.
- 33:32SPEAKER_09: That seemed to happen a lot a lot to Billy Joel, yes.
- 33:35SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 33:35SPEAKER_11: But uh he didn't want to release the tapes because uh when he heard the final mix, they sped it up.
- 33:43SPEAKER_11: So his he sounds like a chipmunk.
- 33:45SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, I heard the story.
- 33:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:46SPEAKER_11: So they sped it up.
- 33:47SPEAKER_11: But I I don't agree with uh Ultimate Classic Rock on this.
- 33:53SPEAKER_11: I'm not gonna re do the do the reading, the the article here, but Everybody Loves You Now from uh Cold Spring Harbor.
- 34:00SPEAKER_11: Great song.
- 34:04SPEAKER_05: Maybe all the lights turned on you.
- 34:06SPEAKER_09: You know what he looks like right there?
- 34:09SPEAKER_09: He looks like Paul McCartney from the uh from the uh uh uh uh Let It Be?
- 34:15SPEAKER_11: Let It Be video.
- 34:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:17SPEAKER_11: There's a lot of correlations between Billy Joel.
- 34:19SPEAKER_11: He loves the Beatles.
- 34:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah, he's a very influenced by the Beatles.
- 34:25SPEAKER_11: I like the early Billy Joel stuff a lot better than the because it's more piano.
- 34:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:29SPEAKER_09: I love his piano play.
- 34:33SPEAKER_05: If I had to call it just out of curiosity, you need it to get to you somehow.
- 34:47SPEAKER_09: Now they're saying this is the best song off that album.
- 34:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:52SPEAKER_11: Now they wait your reply They say uh is one of the first in a long lineage of Joel songs about successful desirable women who treat their admirers like dirt.
- 35:05SPEAKER_11: Um the original version of this song is on this album.
- 35:21SPEAKER_14: She's got a way about her.
- 35:26SPEAKER_11: Come on, she's got a way.
- 35:30SPEAKER_11: It's not as good as the version that came out because he he released another version of this out of this song, I think probably when the The Greatest Hits uh double set came out.
- 35:42SPEAKER_11: Um, and that version is better.
- 35:44SPEAKER_11: Um Let's say, oh, you were talking about uh you were talking about his Beatles influence or his uh Paul McCartney.
- 35:55SPEAKER_14: Of all the people in the world that I know, you're the best place to go when I cry, when I cry.
- 36:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, and I like tomorrow is today.
- 36:11SPEAKER_11: Although Everybody Loves You Now is a is a good song.
- 36:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 36:20SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I'm not gonna go any further.
- 36:22SPEAKER_11: I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll give him that.
- 36:23SPEAKER_11: Everybody loves you now.
- 36:24SPEAKER_11: From Piano Man.
- 36:26SPEAKER_11: Uh Piano Man the song.
- 36:29SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 36:30SPEAKER_11: Um there's a lot of good songs on Piano Man, though.
- 36:33SPEAKER_11: Um I wanna say what is the um hold on a second here.
- 36:41SPEAKER_11: I think I have Piano Man in here.
- 36:44SPEAKER_11: If I don't, I have songs from it.
- 36:48SPEAKER_11: But there's a song there's a couple songs on that.
- 36:53SPEAKER_11: I have a lot of Billy Joel in here.
- 36:55SPEAKER_11: Maybe I don't have that one.
- 36:59SPEAKER_11: I don't have that in here.
- 37:01SPEAKER_11: Um Ballad of Billy the Kid.
- 37:04SPEAKER_11: You ever heard that song?
- 37:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's a great song.
- 37:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah, a great song.
- 37:06SPEAKER_11: Um It Ain't No Crime.
- 37:10SPEAKER_11: That's from Piano Man.
- 37:12SPEAKER_11: Uh It Ain't No Crime.
- 37:14SPEAKER_11: I I wish I could play these songs because I would although Piano Man, you kind of have to pick that, right?
- 37:20SPEAKER_09: Because that's everybody knows that.
- 37:22SPEAKER_11: That's a signature song.
- 37:23SPEAKER_11: So I'll I'll go with Piano Man.
- 37:25SPEAKER_11: Street Life Serenade, the Entertainer.
- 37:28SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 37:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I'm gonna agree with I'm gonna agree with that one.
- 37:30SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean that's a great song.
- 37:46SPEAKER_13: I am the entertainer, and I know just where I stand, another serenator, and another long-haired band.
- 37:56SPEAKER_13: Today I am the champion.
- 38:01SPEAKER_13: But I know the game, and you forget my name, and I won't be here in another year if I don't stay on the charts.
- 38:08SPEAKER_11: And that's a thing that he never really takes pride in, or took pride in.
- 38:12SPEAKER_11: And I think you've listened to some of those uh those um things storytellers that he did with the like the colleges, camp campus and stuff like that.
- 38:20SPEAKER_11: He never really um liked his lyrics.
- 38:24SPEAKER_11: I think his lyrics are genius.
- 38:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean he's got great lyric, because he's a great storyteller.
- 38:28SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 38:29SPEAKER_09: You know, and not you know, just you know, not to off the thing, but for sure.
- 38:33SPEAKER_09: But I mean his his songs are great storytelling songs.
- 38:36SPEAKER_09: I mean I mean he's he's like this close to being a country artist.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:39SPEAKER_09: You know, as far as country, you know, uh storytelling uh songs.
- 38:43SPEAKER_11: I have to say this is in my top five Billy Joel songs from uh from Turnstyle, 1976.
- 38:51SPEAKER_11: It's his prelude, Angry Young Man.
- 38:53SPEAKER_11: Have you heard this one?
- 38:54SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 38:55SPEAKER_11: Oh I can listen to this.
- 39:03SPEAKER_11: I mean kind of would you call this I don't know.
- 39:11SPEAKER_11: A little bit of a prog aspect.
- 39:13SPEAKER_09: There is a bit of a prog, but it's more of a it's more of a stylized theatrical.
- 39:22SPEAKER_09: I I would I would more attribute it to more of like a Broadway musical.
- 39:27SPEAKER_09: Okay, you know what I mean?
- 39:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah, nope, I get that.
- 39:29SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 39:34SPEAKER_11: This sounds like a 70s TV show, right?
- 39:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's it's like the it's like the opening credits to like, you know, she's the boss or something, you know what I mean?
- 39:43SPEAKER_09: You know, you know, it's just like you know, there's they're showing like the you know the the cityscape and then there's down to like the suburb and then like the house, you know, and the kids are out playing, riding their bikes, you know.
- 39:57SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 39:57SPEAKER_11: All of a sudden, like dad comes out on the porch, he's like, you know, and you know he's playing that like yeah, that's crazy, man.
- 40:05SPEAKER_11: Crazy to watch.
- 40:06SPEAKER_11: Uh 1977, The Stranger.
- 40:09SPEAKER_11: The song is scenes from an Italian restaurant.
- 40:12SPEAKER_11: I love that.
- 40:13SPEAKER_11: That's like three three snippets of songs that he's working on and he put them all together.
- 40:17SPEAKER_09: It's like A Day in the Life by the Beatles.
- 40:19SPEAKER_09: It's basically that.
- 40:20SPEAKER_09: So a couple songs put together.
- 40:22SPEAKER_09: It is probably I've I've I I told Morton one day that the Syndicate should do this song.
- 40:27SPEAKER_11: Are you kidding?
- 40:28SPEAKER_11: It would be so great.
- 40:29SPEAKER_11: That would be amazing.
- 40:30SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 40:31SPEAKER_11: Um, yeah.
- 40:36SPEAKER_09: Easily.
- 40:37SPEAKER_11: Easily.
- 40:38SPEAKER_11: Piano Man is not.
- 40:39SPEAKER_11: No, it's not mine either.
- 40:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I like it.
- 40:41SPEAKER_11: I mean, it's it's classic.
- 40:44unknown: Bottle red.
- 40:46SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I'm not gonna play the whole thing because I'll just get hooked up.
- 40:49SPEAKER_11: It's like a seven-minute song.
- 40:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 40:51SPEAKER_11: Zanzibar from 52nd Street.
- 40:54SPEAKER_11: Um Really?
- 40:55SPEAKER_09: That's the best song on the side.
- 40:56SPEAKER_11: Apparently, I I don't agree with that.
- 40:58SPEAKER_11: Um well, I'll I'll play a little bit of it because I think I have I think I have that one here.
- 41:05SPEAKER_11: Um Yeah, Zanzibar.
- 41:08SPEAKER_11: This is the one that they said is the best song on the album.
- 41:16SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's good.
- 41:16SPEAKER_09: I'm not saying it's not a good song.
- 41:18SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's a great song, but I I don't think it's the best song.
- 41:27SPEAKER_11: I mean, this is the same album that has Honesty.
- 41:31SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 41:32SPEAKER_18: Come on.
- 41:34SPEAKER_18: Hello.
- 41:37SPEAKER_18: If you search for tenderness, it isn't hard to find.
- 41:44SPEAKER_18: You can have the love you need to live.
- 41:48SPEAKER_11: Maybe it was because was Zanzibar a hit?
- 41:50SPEAKER_11: I don't think it was a hit.
- 41:51SPEAKER_11: I don't think it was.
- 41:52SPEAKER_11: But maybe it's because that maybe we think maybe I like it because I know that song.
- 41:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah, maybe.
- 41:57SPEAKER_11: Could be.
- 41:58SPEAKER_09: Could be.
- 41:58SPEAKER_11: Glass Houses, you may be right.
- 42:01SPEAKER_11: Um great song, but not the best song.
- 42:04SPEAKER_11: I don't think it's the best song on that album.
- 42:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 42:06SPEAKER_11: Um Let me see.
- 42:07SPEAKER_11: I think I have glass houses here.
- 42:09SPEAKER_11: Somewhere.
- 42:10SPEAKER_08: Somewhere, somewhere, somewhere.
- 42:12SPEAKER_08: Somewhere in the universe.
- 42:15SPEAKER_08: It's glass houses somewhere.
- 42:17SPEAKER_08: There it is.
- 42:18SPEAKER_08: There it is.
- 42:19SPEAKER_11: Um Yeah, I don't know.
- 42:24SPEAKER_11: I I have I only have uh uh a few of them on here.
- 42:43SPEAKER_11: Sometimes a fantasy.
- 42:45SPEAKER_09: Um you know what sometimes sometimes I f when I listen to Billy Joel thing songs, I think I'm listening to Weird Owl original songs.
- 42:55SPEAKER_09: I don't know why, because they have the same similar, I think Weird Owl has that same similar style of like just like a big goofy kind of song.
- 43:05SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 43:05SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 43:06SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 43:07SPEAKER_11: This is from Glasshouses.
- 43:09SPEAKER_11: This is sometimes a fantasy.
- 43:11SPEAKER_11: You know, see, I like that better than You May Be Right.
- 43:14SPEAKER_11: Again, you may be right is a great song.
- 43:16SPEAKER_11: You may be right, it's a great song.
- 43:17SPEAKER_11: It was also a hit song.
- 43:18SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 43:19SPEAKER_09: Um I have that on um uh that and 52nd Street, I have on vinyl.
- 43:24SPEAKER_11: Do you?
- 43:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 43:25SPEAKER_11: I don't have a lot of Billy Joel on vinyl, unfortunately.
- 43:28SPEAKER_11: I think I have some, but I don't I don't have a lot.
- 43:30SPEAKER_11: Now, uh this I don't agree with.
- 43:34SPEAKER_11: It's it's a great song.
- 43:35SPEAKER_09: Now what did they say?
- 43:36SPEAKER_11: For Nylon Curtain, uh, which came out in 82, they said, Where's the orchestra?
- 43:42SPEAKER_11: Great song.
- 43:48SPEAKER_02: Where's the orchestra?
- 43:54SPEAKER_02: Wasn't this supposed to be a musical?
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Here I am in the balcony.
- 44:05SPEAKER_11: And maybe I'm just going for you know for personal taste, but I like this one.
- 44:10SPEAKER_11: She's right on time.
- 44:29SPEAKER_09: Nah, I like orchestra one better.
- 44:31SPEAKER_04: Do you know I think it's just the recording of this one that rewurb on his voice on the course there's the nod to the beetles.
- 44:57SPEAKER_11: Room of our own.
- 45:00SPEAKER_09: Of course we gotta have a nod to the beetles.
- 45:18SPEAKER_11: You know one thing I love about Billy Joel, among a lot of other things, is he has a voice.
- 45:25SPEAKER_11: He has like a chameleon voice.
- 45:27SPEAKER_11: Yeah, he can do whatever.
- 45:28SPEAKER_11: He can do whatever.
- 45:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 45:29SPEAKER_11: I mean, he can do tender and and just have a beautiful lilting, you know, tenor voice, but then he can get doo gritty.
- 45:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 45:38SPEAKER_11: And he can do rock and roll like that.
- 45:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:40SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 45:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 45:41SPEAKER_11: He can do it all, man.
- 45:42SPEAKER_11: I love that.
- 45:42SPEAKER_11: From 83 is an innocent man, Uptown Girl.
- 45:46SPEAKER_09: Uptown girl.
- 45:48SPEAKER_09: Um definitely an earworm.
- 45:50SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 45:50SPEAKER_11: And it's very Frankie Valley in the Forces.
- 45:52SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 45:53SPEAKER_11: It was like a kind of a dedication.
- 45:54SPEAKER_11: Or not a dedication, but a tribute.
- 45:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah, a tribute, yeah.
- 45:56SPEAKER_11: Uh to them.
- 45:58SPEAKER_11: I'm trying to think of that album.
- 46:02SPEAKER_11: Actually, that album had a lot of probac type songs.
- 46:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 46:07SPEAKER_11: Um, isn't Leave a Tender Moment alone on that one?
- 46:11SPEAKER_09: Yeah, don't ask me, man.
- 46:12SPEAKER_09: I cannot remember.
- 46:14SPEAKER_11: Um, I uh but isn't that the one with uh um Stevie Wonder playing harmonica?
- 46:23SPEAKER_09: You got me, man.
- 46:24SPEAKER_09: I I don't have that encyclopedic memory like you do.
- 46:28SPEAKER_11: Well, obviously I don't because I'm questioning it.
- 46:32SPEAKER_11: Um I just want to look because I will tell you, I don't I don't have that.
- 46:36SPEAKER_11: I used to have that on cassette, so I can't play, I don't like I can't play that one here.
- 46:41SPEAKER_11: But there's a lot of retro, like oldie, old rock and roll type songs.
- 46:45SPEAKER_11: Oh, the longest time, the do-up song.
- 46:47SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 46:48SPEAKER_11: Um I almost like that better than oh, I love that song.
- 46:52SPEAKER_09: I like that better than this.
- 46:53SPEAKER_11: I like Uptown Girl, but uh yeah, and Leave a Tender Moment Alone, which is an homage to Smokey Robinson, but it has Stevie Wonder on harmonica, okay.
- 47:02SPEAKER_11: I believe.
- 47:02SPEAKER_11: Keeping the Faith.
- 47:03SPEAKER_11: Oh, keeping the Faith is a great song.
- 47:05SPEAKER_11: It's a great song that's on this this album.
- 47:07SPEAKER_11: And that oh, tell her about it.
- 47:09SPEAKER_11: Tell her about it.
- 47:10SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 47:11SPEAKER_11: Very retro, very, you know, old rock and roll type stuff.
- 47:14SPEAKER_11: And then he's got uh uh did you did he do you ever hear him talk about his ode to Beethoven?
- 47:21SPEAKER_11: Or where he stole the melody from Beethoven?
- 47:24SPEAKER_11: Song called This Night is on here.
- 47:27SPEAKER_11: A great song.
- 47:28SPEAKER_11: Um so I don't know that I would put uh Innocent Man or as um Uptown Girl as the best song on Innocent Man, but you know, again, this is very subjective.
- 47:38SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 47:39SPEAKER_11: This is whoever wrote this article.
- 47:41SPEAKER_11: The Bridge, a matter of trust.
- 47:43SPEAKER_09: That's a great I love this song.
- 47:46SPEAKER_09: This is on my this song is on my uh on my uh list when I jam on the drums kit to play along with it.
- 47:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's what I always say too.
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: Okay girls!
- 48:01SPEAKER_11: Okay, girls.
- 48:04SPEAKER_11: This is a great song.
- 48:07SPEAKER_05: We have an 11 button.
- 48:16SPEAKER_11: This is a video, a music video, so obviously it's too hot in here.
- 48:24SPEAKER_13: Wait, it's too hot.
- 48:26SPEAKER_13: Can you guys open the windows?
- 48:31SPEAKER_04: One, two, one, two, three, four.
- 48:38SPEAKER_11: And even the lyrics to this song, if you like really listen to the lyrics of this song, there's so much wisdom.
- 48:43SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 48:53SPEAKER_09: Of course, Christy Breakley's.
- 48:55SPEAKER_09: Of course.
- 48:56SPEAKER_09: I think it's funny that somebody else was playing piano in this song.
- 48:59SPEAKER_11: Yeah, he's playing guitar.
- 49:10SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I love I love his lyrics.
- 49:12SPEAKER_11: Every time I I listen to Billy Joel, I get inspired.
- 49:16SPEAKER_11: Uh I go to Extremes, Stormfront.
- 49:19SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 49:19SPEAKER_11: Uh great song.
- 49:21SPEAKER_11: And I would say probably um I would say probably the best song on that album.
- 49:28SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, it's I mean it's a really, really great song.
- 49:31SPEAKER_11: It's the melody.
- 49:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 49:32SPEAKER_11: You know.
- 49:37SPEAKER_04: Call me the joke.
- 49:39SPEAKER_04: Call me the food.
- 49:46SPEAKER_09: I love Liberty DeVito, man.
- 49:48SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 49:49SPEAKER_09: Guys are amazing and one of the great under underrated drummers inconsistent.
- 49:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you know, yeah.
- 49:57SPEAKER_11: Interesting.
- 49:58SPEAKER_11: I I don't know that I knew this, or maybe I did and I just forgot.
- 50:01SPEAKER_11: So, before this, Billy Joel had uh a producer named Phil Ramon on all of his albums.
- 50:08SPEAKER_11: Well, except for his first couple.
- 50:11SPEAKER_11: But Phil Ramone was around when he made it broke through and made it big, right?
- 50:15SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 50:16SPEAKER_11: On this one, he ditched Phil Ramone.
- 50:19SPEAKER_11: Not like ditched him, but he went with somebody else.
- 50:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 50:21SPEAKER_11: Mick Jones, guitar player for Foreigner.
- 50:25SPEAKER_11: So you can tell, I guess you can Yeah, it's a little bit more rocky.
- 50:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 50:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 50:32SPEAKER_11: Uh great song.
- 50:33SPEAKER_11: I love that song.
- 50:34SPEAKER_11: Uh River of Dreams, all about soul.
- 50:36SPEAKER_09: Yeah, another one on my play.
- 50:38SPEAKER_09: Another one on my playlist for the play along.
- 50:39SPEAKER_09: Mine too.
- 50:40SPEAKER_11: I don't know that I don't know that this would have been my favorite.
- 50:44SPEAKER_09: It's it's my favorite.
- 50:45SPEAKER_11: Is it?
- 50:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 50:46SPEAKER_11: I do I do love this song.
- 50:48SPEAKER_11: Um, but I liked let's see.
- 50:58SPEAKER_05: She waits for me at night.
- 51:01SPEAKER_11: Uh it's right up there.
- 51:02SPEAKER_11: It's right up there.
- 51:03SPEAKER_09: It's it's my favorite.
- 51:04SPEAKER_09: It's it's it's definitely one of my favorite all time, Billy Jolson.
- 51:08SPEAKER_05: So attending this and takes away my pain.
- 51:15SPEAKER_05: And so far she hasn't run.
- 51:19SPEAKER_11: Yeah, but you know, the the this album also had um lullaby, Goodnight, my angel.
- 51:25SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, great song.
- 51:26SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 51:28SPEAKER_11: Um this one.
- 51:32SPEAKER_11: Um 2000 Years, which is a great it's like an epic song.
- 51:38SPEAKER_11: Um a minor variation, which is a bluesie.
- 51:45SPEAKER_11: Uh, but it also had one of my favorites, the Great Wall of China, which is about his close confidant, I think it was his brother-in-law, who ripped him off.
- 51:57SPEAKER_11: Yeah, stole him, yeah.
- 51:58SPEAKER_17: And and it was somedays I have to give a rhyme to the bloom.
- 52:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that whole album is amazing.
- 52:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, but great, great album.
- 52:11SPEAKER_11: I can't I I guess I can't argue with All About Soul.
- 52:14SPEAKER_11: That's great.
- 52:15SPEAKER_11: So there you go.
- 52:16SPEAKER_11: That's the and that was his last album.
- 52:17SPEAKER_11: Yeah, his last album.
- 52:19SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 52:19SPEAKER_11: Um I would agree with most of those.
- 52:22SPEAKER_11: Some some I you know, of course that's that's a subjective thing.
- 52:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean, they're all great songs.
- 52:27SPEAKER_09: I mean, no doubt about it.
- 52:28SPEAKER_09: I mean, you know, there's hard it's hard to find a bad belly joel song.
- 52:31SPEAKER_11: It is true.
- 52:32SPEAKER_09: But uh, I mean, I I mean, they're not all of them, they're necessarily my favorite songs, but I mean I like them.
- 52:38SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 52:38SPEAKER_09: You know, but you know, like you said, like you said, it's subjective songs.
- 52:42SPEAKER_09: Sure.
- 52:43SPEAKER_09: But that's a good list.
- 52:44SPEAKER_09: I'm glad we did that.
- 52:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 52:46SPEAKER_11: Um let's do uh mixtape.
- 52:50SPEAKER_11: Mixtake!
- 52:52SPEAKER_07: Do you do you remember the question?
- 52:54SPEAKER_07: Because I don't Well, we have to do past, present, future.
- 52:58SPEAKER_11: Alright, so let's do um let's do past first, right?
- 53:01SPEAKER_09: Well, obviously.
- 53:02SPEAKER_09: Uh the past.
- 53:04SPEAKER_09: So that was the one about uh riding with your dad.
- 53:08SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's right.
- 53:09SPEAKER_11: And I I think I picked what did I pick?
- 53:11SPEAKER_11: I picked uh Oh, I picked Jesse's girl.
- 53:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 53:15SPEAKER_11: That's right.
- 53:15SPEAKER_09: Okay, so I gotta get to our judge.
- 53:20SPEAKER_09: And what she said.
- 53:22SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 53:22SPEAKER_09: This is what our judge said.
- 53:29SPEAKER_09: Okay, so the picks this week were all really good picks, and the memories with each pick, I'm sure, are very dear to y'all individually.
- 53:37SPEAKER_09: Knowing the sentimental value behind each pick made it difficult to pick just one song for this week.
- 53:42SPEAKER_09: Well, I'm sure I thought I might go with Jesse's Girl because I'm not a big on country, and everyone hopefully from my generation should know Jesse's Girl.
- 53:50SPEAKER_09: Epic song.
- 53:51SPEAKER_09: I actually picked a country song this week.
- 53:53SPEAKER_09: Everyone with good music taste loves a good Johnny Cash song.
- 53:56SPEAKER_09: And Walk the Line is iconic.
- 53:58SPEAKER_09: Even brought back great memories from my childhood from a past beloved.
- 54:02SPEAKER_11: Was that you or Larry?
- 54:04SPEAKER_11: That did walk the line.
- 54:05SPEAKER_09: I was Larry.
- 54:06SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 54:06SPEAKER_09: Uh however, I went with Don Williams, I believe in you.
- 54:09SPEAKER_09: Very, very beautiful song and wonderful lyrics.
- 54:12SPEAKER_09: My father, being the classic 80s army service member and gearhead, would always have classic rock tune turned up, and probably why I always listen to my music at full blast.
- 54:22SPEAKER_09: But ones I remember him really rocking out to as a kid was Bad Company, and another one bites the dust.
- 54:28SPEAKER_09: That's where my love of rock music started.
- 54:31SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 54:31SPEAKER_09: Yep, so that was her pick.
- 54:35SPEAKER_09: Very good.
- 54:35SPEAKER_09: Don Williams.
- 54:36SPEAKER_09: Very well done.
- 54:37SPEAKER_11: I love Don Williams.
- 54:38SPEAKER_09: So that was passed.
- 54:42SPEAKER_09: Now we got a new present, and it's right.
- 54:47SPEAKER_09: Well, that was the one dedicate a song to someone, and tell my you chose that song to show you.
- 54:52SPEAKER_09: So this is what Cousin Larry said.
- 55:02SPEAKER_09: Cousin Larry, okay.
- 55:06SPEAKER_09: Okay, so there are many people I would love to dedicate a song to.
- 55:10SPEAKER_09: My wife, my mom, my dad, sister, friends, and even people I don't know.
- 55:14SPEAKER_09: But this this but this is not my choice, but American Woman would be great dedication to Taylor Swift because, quote, I don't want to see your face no more.
- 55:22SPEAKER_09: But I digress.
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: Classic cousin Larry.
- 55:29SPEAKER_09: Uh December 5th is my brother Carl's birthday.
- 55:32SPEAKER_09: He passed away the next day, and I never got to meet him.
- 55:35SPEAKER_09: Watch him grow up and get to know him.
- 55:37SPEAKER_09: So I would dedicate Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven to him.
- 55:40SPEAKER_11: Alright, hold on.
- 55:44SPEAKER_11: You should have told me this ahead of time.
- 55:48SPEAKER_09: We don't do stuff like that! We don't plan ahead.
- 55:53SPEAKER_09: Kids, if you're listening, don't plan ahead.
- 55:55SPEAKER_09: Ever.
- 55:56SPEAKER_09: Just live for the moment.
- 56:01SPEAKER_09: Actually, wear pants.
- 56:12SPEAKER_09: I don't know, I can't see it from here.
- 56:15SPEAKER_08: I don't know what you're looking at.
- 56:17SPEAKER_08: There it is.
- 56:18SPEAKER_11: The uh unplugged version.
- 56:20SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 56:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah, this I mean, I'm a Clapton freak, and this this whole story.
- 56:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 56:30SPEAKER_11: Just is yeah.
- 56:56SPEAKER_16: I must be strong.
- 57:02SPEAKER_16: Okay.
- 57:15SPEAKER_11: Oh man.
- 57:17SPEAKER_11: It's good stuff.
- 57:18SPEAKER_11: Alright, so that's cousin Larry's.
- 57:19SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 57:20SPEAKER_11: Uh yours?
- 57:21SPEAKER_09: Mine.
- 57:22SPEAKER_09: I'm dedicating this one.
- 57:24SPEAKER_09: This because this one just happened this morning.
- 57:26SPEAKER_09: It was funny.
- 57:26SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 57:27SPEAKER_09: So I'm dedicating this one to my friend Matt Bellas.
- 57:30SPEAKER_09: The great uh Dr.
- 57:32SPEAKER_09: Bellas.
- 57:33SPEAKER_09: Who comes to ATLC.
- 57:34SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 57:34SPEAKER_09: It's uh R E M's, it's the end of the world as I know, as we know it.
- 57:38SPEAKER_09: Well, I I say that because what happened was I was at work and I was I had the radio on.
- 57:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 57:44SPEAKER_09: And of course it's December now, so they're playing Christmas music.
- 57:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 57:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah, intertwined with the playlist.
- 57:50SPEAKER_09: So they were playing Paul McCartney's uh wonderful Christmas time.
- 57:56SPEAKER_09: They played that song, right?
- 57:57SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 57:58SPEAKER_09: Right after that song, they played this song.
- 58:01SPEAKER_09: And I was like, that is just the opposite ends of any kind of musical thing.
- 58:07SPEAKER_11: Do you think they did it on purpose?
- 58:08SPEAKER_09: I have no idea, but it was just really, really funny to me.
- 58:11SPEAKER_11: It made me laugh.
- 58:13SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see if my internet works here.
- 58:16SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 58:16SPEAKER_09: It looks you got the circle of death going right there.
- 58:19SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 58:22SPEAKER_12: That's great.
- 58:22SPEAKER_12: It starts with an earthquake.
- 58:27SPEAKER_12: Let me bring it up.
- 58:31SPEAKER_12: I have a hurricane.
- 59:29SPEAKER_07: It's good stuff.
- 59:30SPEAKER_07: I like that song.
- 59:31SPEAKER_11: Um okay, so let's see.
- 59:33SPEAKER_11: My turn?
- 59:34SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 59:34SPEAKER_07: It is my turn.
- 59:35SPEAKER_11: See, senor! It is my turn.
- 59:37SPEAKER_11: I'm going to uh and and to your to your um uh our our judge.
- 59:44SPEAKER_11: Uh I'm trying not trying to stack this in any way whatsoever.
- 59:48SPEAKER_09: But you are.
- 59:49SPEAKER_11: Um no, I'm not.
- 59:50SPEAKER_11: I'm not sure.
- 59:51SPEAKER_09: But you wouldn't have said that if you weren't.
- 59:53SPEAKER_11: Um I would like to uh send where is it here?
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_11: Let's see.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_11: So I could do a couple of things here.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_11: I could send a song out to Shane.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_11: Our bass player.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_11: I could send a song out to my daughter, my oldest, or my youngest, actually.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_11: Uh uh, and that would be very touching.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_11: Shane's wouldn't be touching Shane's would be funny.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_09: Well, of course.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_11: I could send a song out to my wife.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_09: I could send a song out to one of my only Josh and Shane will get that.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_11: To a to a particular friend, or a a particular son of mine, not all of them.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_11: Um, so I don't know.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_11: Do I go funny?
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_11: Do I go touching?
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_09: Well, it's all up to you, man.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_09: Um Cousin Larry went touching, I went funny.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_09: So you you can do in the middle.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_09: I suppose.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_11: Okay, I'm going to.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_11: I'm going to send one out to my um so my middle child and I butt handled like um just a teenager thing, I think.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_11: You know.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_11: Um I never really butted handled uh with any of my other kids.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_11: Like the way we buttheaded.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_11: So on on my album that came out in 2008, there's a song in there.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_11: Uh actually I think it's a hidden track.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it is.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_11: It's a hidden track.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_11: That I wrote.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_09: Oh, I hold on.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_09: Uh for all you Gen Z uh Hidden Track on a C D.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_09: Okay, C D was a little plastic disc with music on it.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_09: Uh Hidden Track was a song that was not listed on the album.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_09: On the album, right?
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_09: If you let it play, it would play.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_09: And you'd be like, what is this song?
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_09: That's this hidden gem.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_09: That's a hidden track, yeah.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_11: So the I'm out.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_11: So so this is this is a lullaby that I wrote for my middle child.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_11: Um and my one of my older children um called him Baby Boo.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_11: Um, so this is Welcome Home, Baby Boo.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_11: So it's only two minutes.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_17: You've been waiting all for God to point away.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_17: Some day there will be a story to be told.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_17: All I have to say to you is be welcome.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_11: The rest of it's the same.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_11: Just goes close to the bridge again.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_11: So that's that would be the one that I sent out.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_11: The other had I had I sent it out to Shane, it would have been it would have been uh this one.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_11: Yes, there's a story about this.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_01: We should tell the story.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_11: So this is a song I wrote called County Boy.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_11: Uh and this and the well, the story is that my wife said, you know, you you should write the worst song you've ever written.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_11: And I wrote County Boy and everybody and everybody loved it.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_09: Everybody loves those things.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_11: Everybody loves it.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_11: Uh except Shane.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_11: Uh Shane Shane did not uh care.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_11: Well, he liked the riff.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_11: He liked the riff.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_11: But you know, it's it was that type of music Shane wasn't into.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_11: And uh I think he was listening to my album or was listening to something, um, and that song came up.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_11: Uh while he was driving.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_11: And he drove off the road.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_11: Well, he was trying to use forward and changed the track.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_09: And he and he ran into a telephone pole.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_09: So and it was ironically uh before a gig.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_09: It was.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_09: So I would have sent the.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_09: I think we we we'd gone to eat before the gig, and we were coming back to go do the gig.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_09: And it was right then when he smacked the telephone pole.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_11: Because County Boy came in.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_11: I love that.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_11: So that would have been the funny one.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_11: But we're gonna we're gonna go with the welcome home baby booze.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_11: So yeah.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_09: Awesome.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_09: Awesome choice.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_07: So how about the future?
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_09: All right, future question.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_09: You ready for this?
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_09: Theme music.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_09: Your theme music plays every time you walk in public.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_11: Oh, it's like a walk-on song.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_11: Like I'm like, yeah.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_11: Your theme music plays every time you walk in public.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_11: Food for that.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_09: Food for that.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_09: I gotta send this to Cousin Larry.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_11: Um, so while you do that, we're gonna take a break.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_11: We'll come back.

- 1:07:23SPEAKER_09: I like how you say he's talking to the listener.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_07: Not the listeners.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_09: Our lone listener.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_09: Hey, how's it going?
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_09: Good to see you.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_09: Thanks for listening to our podcast.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_09: Checks in the mail.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_11: Okay, so uh I'm gonna start the uh Wall of Tunes music.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_11: I don't need the music now.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_09: That was way better.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_11: Uh and while I take off my headphones and climb the wall of tunes, Doug is gonna read from a hard day's right.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_09: I'm glad you said headphones.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_09: Oh, tell me, take off my clothes.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_01: No!
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_09: Okay, so our Beatles song today is Things We Said from the Yes, Things We Said Today from the Hard Day's Night album.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_09: Ah, here we go.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_09: In May 1964, having completed the filming of A Hard Days Night and after fulfilling some performing commitments in England and Scotland, the Beatles and their partners took off for a holiday break.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_09: John and George made a round-the-world trip with stop-offs in Holland, Polynesia, Hawaii, and Canada.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_09: That's really weird stops.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I do.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_09: While Paul and Ringo went to France and Portugal before taking off for the Virgin Islands.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_09: Well, that makes a little more sense.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_09: Uh while in the Caribbean, Paul hired a yacht called Happy Days.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_09: And it was while on board with Ringo, Maureen, and Jane, that he wrote Things We Said Today on his acoustic guitar.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_09: The song was a reflection of his relationship with Jane.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_09: Jane Asher, if you were just catching you not wondering.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_09: When they were separated, he said he would take comfort from the memory of the things they'd said that day.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_09: So there you go.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_11: Yeah, awesome.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_11: I love this song.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I love it.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_11: That's the harmonies.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_15: Someday when we're dreaming, deep in love, not a lot to say.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_15: Then we will remember things we said today.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_07: Good stuff.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_07: Great song.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_07: Great song.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_07: Great song.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_07: Another great song.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_07: Great.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_07: It's great.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_11: It's great.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_11: Alright, so I have an album.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_11: Uh some are you ready?
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_11: I'm gonna say let we're guessing begin.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_08: Alright.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_08: Alright.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_08: Solo guy?
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_08: Girl?
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_08: Guy.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_08: You got me there with two questions here.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_09: Freaking goy.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_11: When I said breakthrough is still to this day, I think it still is a more popular album.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_11: Nope.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_11: Always been a solo guy.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_11: At one point he had uh two names.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_09: John Cougar Mellon.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_11: I was gonna say, and then he got three names.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_09: Then he went back to two.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_11: Then he went back to two.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_11: So this was John Johnny Cougar, and then John Cougar Mellencamp, and then John Mellencamp.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_11: So what I have is this one.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's a good one.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_11: Words and Music, greatest hits.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_11: Uh John Mellencamp.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_11: Would you agree with me though?
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_09: I mean, he he kind of he's kind of all over the place.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_11: Runs the gamut.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_11: I mean, he started like, you know, like Hurt So Good, that's rock.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_11: You know?
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_11: Um, and then Scarecrow is rock.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_09: But it was American.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_09: Americana, for sure.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_11: Lonesome Jubilee, same thing.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_11: Um, and then he went and did in the 90s.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_11: Well, let me just get to the album here because he had some great stuff in the 90s, but it was very pop.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_11: Um so obviously we have Let me give you, let me give you one uh from the 80s uh like the early stuff that I I call uh there you go.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_11: Rock.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_09: Right?
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, this is a rocker.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_11: Um and then you have well, of course, the biggest one.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_11: Now this is what's this song?
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_11: I've never heard this one ever! But this is so this is rock, right?
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_11: But this is also kind of pop.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_11: Yeah, maybe poppy, yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_11: It's got pop sensibility, right?
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_11: And then of course you have Scarecrow.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_07: Not as Americana.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_11: Oh that whole album.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_11: Roots rock, the whole album.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah, even though we had hit songs like Small Town and Rock in the U R O T K in the USA, yeah.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_11: Um very Americana.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_09: Um I remember I played the crap out of this album when it came out.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, me too.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_11: Me too.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_11: Um, and then he had uh let's see.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_11: That whole Lonesome Jubilee album was just very roosty and and it was used in all kinds of different instruments, and but it was still just awesome.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_11: Um this is one of my favorite ones.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_11: Human wheels.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_11: This uh came from the album the same name.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_11: This was based on a poem.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_11: Do you remember this song?
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_11: Still rooty, right?
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_09: Why would you say that?
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_09: It's only got a mandolin in it.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_11: Okay, so this is kind of rooty in Americana sort of.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_11: But then in the 90s, he put out this album.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_11: Where he teamed up with like a I don't know if it's a DJ or just a guy that did beat.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_11: And I love this song.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_11: I love this album.
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_11: I don't know if I call this pop or what you would call it.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_09: It's poppy.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_09: You you could find this on a Taylor Swift owl.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_09: I don't know about that.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_04: Then you have Your Life is now See the Moon roll across the stars.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_11: I just dig his stuff, man.
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_04: See the seasons good stuff.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_09: He's kind of a garbage human being, but uh little bit.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_09: But great musician and songwriter.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_11: This is called Just Another Day.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_11: I consider this pop as well.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_11: It's from that same album.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_09: I don't know, I might call this pop.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_11: Well, you haven't heard it yet.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_11: Do you know the song?
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_11: I do know the song.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you may be right.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_09: I wouldn't call this pop.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_09: It's more of a they don't work and they don't want to.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_09: It's got more of like a it's got those Cuban beats, you know, the you know, it's got a little Latino feel to it.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_11: This one, however.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, it's pop it.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_11: I always compare this one to shambala by Three Dog Knight.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, shambala.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's what I do.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_11: Because every time the chords came, I'm not running anymore.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_11: Every time the chords came around, of course, this was when I was in radio, yeah, I would start going out.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_11: You'll know what I mean.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_03: But I'm on my way.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_11: Anyways, uh Words and Music, John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_11: It is a great collection.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_11: That's a that's a great uh and I only played just a snippet of of the songs that are on this.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_09: A lot of bangers on there.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_11: A lot of great songs.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_11: Yeah, a lot of great songs.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_11: Good stuff.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_11: Good stuff.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_11: So there you go.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_11: Good stuff, man.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_11: That is episode 221 uh in the books.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_11: Uh first time back from Thanksgiving.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_09: We promise we won't go away for another couple weeks.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_11: At least a couple weeks, yeah, because we do have to go away for Christmas, I'm sure.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we won't do anything on Christmas.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_11: Oh, let's see.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_11: So this is gonna drop on December 5th.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_11: I think.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_11: Uh our next podcast next week, will drop on my birthday.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_09: I know.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_09: Hopefully your president will be here on the end.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_11: You got me a present?
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_09: You know what it is.
- 1:19:26SPEAKER_07: I was trying to pretend that I didn't.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_07: I was gonna try and be oh, oh, oh, oh! Before we end.
