Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another German session? Luna: Yeah, totally. But I've got a question — we've done 'at the doctor' for appointments, but what about when you actually have pain? Lucas: Oh, good point. Like describing symptoms. Let's do that today. Luna: Perfect. Because saying 'I need an appointment' is great, but then what? Lucas: Right. So let's start with a common one: 'Ich habe Kopfschmerzen.' That means 'I have a headache.' Listen: Ich habe Kopfschmerzen. Luna: Ich habe Kopfschmerzen. Kopfschmerzen — that's head pain, right? Lucas: Exactly. Kopf means head, Schmerzen means pain. So 'Ich habe Kopfschmerzen.' Say it once more? Luna: Ich habe Kopfschmerzen. Lucas: Great. Now another one: 'Ich habe Bauchschmerzen.' Stomach ache. Bauch is stomach. So 'Ich habe Bauchschmerzen.' Luna: Ich habe Bauchschmerzen. That one's easy — Bauch is like 'bow' but with 'ch'. Lucas: Yeah, good. And if the doctor asks where it hurts, they'll say 'Wo tut es weh?' That means 'Where does it hurt?' Listen: Wo tut es weh? Luna: Wo tut es weh? So weh is like pain? Lucas: Sort of. 'Weh tun' means 'to hurt'. So 'Wo tut es weh?' — where does it hurt? Luna: Wo tut es weh? And I answer 'Hier tut es weh' — here it hurts? Lucas: Exactly! 'Hier tut es weh.' Pointing to where it hurts. So practice that: Hier tut es weh. Luna: Hier tut es weh. Lucas: And one more useful one: 'Ich fühle mich nicht gut.' I don't feel well. Luna: Ich fühle mich nicht gut. That's longer. Fühle is feel? Lucas: Yes, from 'fühlen' — to feel. 'Mich' is myself. So 'Ich fühle mich nicht gut.' Say it. Luna: Ich fühle mich nicht gut. Lucas: Perfect. So if you're feeling unwell, you can say that. Luna: Okay, let me try a little scene. I walk into the doctor's and say: 'Ich fühle mich nicht gut. Ich habe Kopfschmerzen.' Lucas: And the doctor says: 'Wo tut es weh?' Luna: Then I point and say: 'Hier tut es weh.' Lucas: Yeah, that's a solid mini-dialogue. You're ready for a real visit. Luna: If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with German, these episodes take time to put together. A couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, if you've gotten something out of them. Lucas: Yeah, it really does help us keep making these lessons ad-free, so thanks to anyone who supports that. Luna: Exactly. Now, let's practice those phrases a bit more. So I have 'Ich habe Kopfschmerzen' and 'Ich habe Bauchschmerzen.' What about back pain? Lucas: Rückenschmerzen. Der Rücken is the back. So 'Ich habe Rückenschmerzen.' Luna: Ich habe Rückenschmerzen. That's useful too. Lucas: And if you have a fever? We learned 'Ich habe Fieber' in episode 82. Remember? Luna: Oh yeah, 'Ich habe Fieber.' So I could say 'Ich habe Fieber und Kopfschmerzen.' Lucas: Exactly. Combining symptoms. Good. Luna: All right, let's go through all five phrases one more time. Lucas: Sure. First: 'Ich habe Kopfschmerzen.' Luna: Ich habe Kopfschmerzen. Lucas: Second: 'Ich habe Bauchschmerzen.' Luna: Ich habe Bauchschmerzen. Lucas: Third: 'Wo tut es weh?' Luna: Wo tut es weh? Lucas: Fourth: 'Hier tut es weh.' Luna: Hier tut es weh. Lucas: And fifth: 'Ich fühle mich nicht gut.' Luna: Ich fühle mich nicht gut. Lucas: Awesome. You've got them. And remember, you can always add 'einmal täglich' from the pharmacy episode if you get a prescription. Luna: Right, 'einmal täglich' — once daily. So 'Ich soll das einmal täglich nehmen.' Lucas: Perfect. Well done today, Luna. Luna: Thanks Lucas. This was super practical. I feel a lot more confident now. Lucas: Great. Practice these phrases, and next time you're at the doctor in Germany, you'll be ready. Bis zum nächsten Mal! Luna: Tschüss!
