Latest / Twin Cities Territory / Are the Twins actually playoff contenders?
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Can the Minnesota Twins make the playoffs? It is Friday,
- 0:06Speaker 1: July seventeenth. The second half of the MLB season begins
- 0:09Speaker 1: tonight at least for twenty eight of the thirty teams,
- 0:13Speaker 1: including the Twins, and we are legitimately asking that question
- 0:16Speaker 1: as they sit here tied for the last wildcard spot
- 0:19Speaker 1: in the American League. They are forty eight and forty
- 0:22Speaker 1: nine overall. This is Twin Cities Territory, You're Minnesota Twins
- 0:26Speaker 1: podcast on the File Territory Network. I am Zach Pierce
- 0:28Speaker 1: of the Athletic joined as always by Dan Hayes, the Athletics,
- 0:32Speaker 1: Minnesota Twins beat writer, and Tyler Duffy, longtime Major leaguer
- 0:36Speaker 1: and former Minnesota Twin. Guys, We've had a nice week
- 0:41Speaker 1: and I think first of all, we want to say
- 0:42Speaker 1: thank you to everybody. These last two episodes this week
- 0:46Speaker 1: are our sort of first half recap show on Monday
- 0:48Speaker 1: and then our mailbag show on Wednesday, have been our
- 0:50Speaker 1: most watched and listened to ever, I believe, so thanks
- 0:54Speaker 1: very much. Awesome to see that growth. We expect this
- 0:56Speaker 1: month to be very eventful and interesting, so hope to
- 1:00Speaker 1: keep you all watching. If you like what you've heard
- 1:02Speaker 1: on the show, Please toss us, act or subscribe, follow
- 1:06Speaker 1: us wherever you listen or watch. If you're on YouTube
- 1:08Speaker 1: right now, there's a QR code on the screen right
- 1:11Speaker 1: there to make it super easy for you. We'd love
- 1:13Speaker 1: to have you join us. And so today, as the
- 1:16Speaker 1: second half begins, we decided we would ask some questions
- 1:20Speaker 1: about the second half and what it's and how this
- 1:22Speaker 1: is all going to go for the Twins and the
- 1:24Speaker 1: biggest question I already said at the top of the show,
- 1:27Speaker 1: can this team actually make the playoffs? Are they contenders?
- 1:31Speaker 2: Guys?
- 1:31Speaker 1: And well, I guess let's get your knee jerk reactions first.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Let's start with Tyler today. Tyler, what do you.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Think if we're sitting where we are right now? Absolutely,
- 1:41Speaker 3: you know it's you're within arms reach of your own division.
- 1:44Speaker 3: You're technically in the wild card spot already. There's no
- 1:48Speaker 3: reason to not believe in that. You know, you've had
- 1:51Speaker 3: some we had some outlier stats early on, but like,
- 1:54Speaker 3: this isn't some crazy smoking mirrors team. You know, we've
- 1:58Speaker 3: pitched well with the guys that are supposed to hitchwell,
- 2:01Speaker 3: the bullpen has had shaky moments that seemingly with Polad's
- 2:05Speaker 3: comments can get better soon. You know, you plug in
- 2:09Speaker 3: one or two pieces. There nothing crazy or earth shattering.
- 2:12Speaker 3: And we're a contender in a really bad American league
- 2:16Speaker 3: this year, which, hey, you you play the games you get,
- 2:20Speaker 3: you know, you play the cards you're dealt, and and
- 2:22Speaker 3: that's the American League this year. So no one says
- 2:25Speaker 3: you have to be one hundred and sixty two to
- 2:27Speaker 3: get to the postseason. You just got to get in.
- 2:29Speaker 3: And that's the name of the game. You know, we
- 2:32Speaker 3: did it one year. We were sellers technically one season
- 2:35Speaker 3: and we made the wild Card game against the Yankees.
- 2:37Speaker 3: So you can still get rid of guys and make
- 2:40Speaker 3: the playoffs at that point. So you know, I think
- 2:43Speaker 3: that the best case is go get a guy or
- 2:45Speaker 3: two and see where we end up at the end
- 2:47Speaker 3: of the year. And like we're talking about the schedule,
- 2:49Speaker 3: if it favors us, even more reason to go for it.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Dan, what's your vibe?
- 2:56Speaker 4: I mean, anytime you're rolling Joe Ryan and Taj Bradley
- 2:59Speaker 4: out to start your rote, you have the way they're
- 3:02Speaker 4: pitching right now, Like, I think that this is a
- 3:05Speaker 4: team and I like the comment I saw over the
- 3:08Speaker 4: course of the weekend. I'll call it a weekend for
- 3:13Speaker 4: us because it's the first time off with consecutive days
- 3:15Speaker 4: away from the ballpark all season. But the comment I
- 3:21Speaker 4: saw is this is just a good team being held
- 3:23Speaker 4: back by its bullpen, and I think that's accurate. I mean,
- 3:25Speaker 4: this is a good starting rotation. We've seen it.
- 3:28Speaker 5: For a month plus now.
- 3:29Speaker 4: We saw it for time at the start of the
- 3:31Speaker 4: season two where the rotation was good and leading the
- 3:34Speaker 4: way when it was Ober and Joe Ryan and just
- 3:37Speaker 4: Todge Bradley going the way. He is just adds staying
- 3:40Speaker 4: power to this group because he has legitimate a stuff.
- 3:43Speaker 4: And so when you have Joe Ryan and Todge Bradley
- 3:46Speaker 4: lined up in this series and they didn't do it
- 3:47Speaker 4: for this first series, but they will have it in
- 3:49Speaker 4: the Cleveland series. That's two games where you should you
- 3:53Speaker 4: should be in it and maybe you should win it.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Your your chances of winning are better this offense. Maybe
- 3:59Speaker 4: it's surprising people, but the fact is is that it's
- 4:02Speaker 4: a bunch of talented players. It's a bunch of first, second, third,
- 4:05Speaker 4: and fourth round picks.
- 4:07Speaker 5: A lot of guys.
- 4:07Speaker 4: I think I use the word opportunists to describe them.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Cody Clemens is a perfect example of a guy who's
- 4:14Speaker 4: a third round pick.
- 4:15Speaker 5: You know, he's thirty.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Now he's found his level at the major league level
- 4:19Speaker 4: and he's succeeding. He's found a way to have success.
- 4:21Speaker 4: And you see it in his numbers against left handed pitching.
- 4:24Speaker 4: He was always an under five hundred OPS guy. He's
- 4:27Speaker 4: got six to fifty one ops now. Now, look that's
- 4:29Speaker 4: not a huge leap. That doesn't even make him very
- 4:31Speaker 4: good against left handed pitching, but it makes him so
- 4:34Speaker 4: much more viable to stay in a game than he
- 4:36Speaker 4: used to be in his career. And you've got guys
- 4:39Speaker 4: like that all over the roster. You have a group
- 4:42Speaker 4: that is willing to move around for the betterment of
- 4:45Speaker 4: the team and make themselves align themselves better defensively. And
- 4:49Speaker 4: I think that the mixture of hitting and timely hitting
- 4:52Speaker 4: and good starting pitching makes this a team that has
- 4:55Speaker 4: a shot.
- 4:56Speaker 5: You just need to enhance it now. You need to
- 4:58Speaker 5: build out that bullpen.
- 5:00Speaker 4: And that is where the Twins are as they've got
- 5:02Speaker 4: two weeks here, two and a half weeks left before
- 5:05Speaker 4: the deadline. Is the mixes here and when you're starting
- 5:09Speaker 4: pitching like that you could win a short series with Joe, Ryan, Todgs,
- 5:11Speaker 4: Bradley and Bailey Over being your three guys in that series.
- 5:15Speaker 4: So you know, yes, I think they are contenders.
- 5:19Speaker 2: There you have it. I don't need to I don't
- 5:21Speaker 2: even need to pile on.
- 5:22Speaker 3: But bye bye bye.
- 5:24Speaker 1: If you all indulge me, I will take you down
- 5:25Speaker 1: a rabbit hole for just a minute. So here's a
- 5:27Speaker 1: look at what the Twins have the rest of the way,
- 5:30Speaker 1: sixty five games to go. It kind of breaks up
- 5:34Speaker 1: neatly into these three categories. If you're watching on YouTube,
- 5:38Speaker 1: they have fifteen games left against teams that are more
- 5:41Speaker 1: than five games over five hundred right now, twenty five
- 5:44Speaker 1: games left against teams that are worse than five games
- 5:47Speaker 1: under five hundred right now, and twenty five games against
- 5:50Speaker 1: everybody in between five games over and five games under, which,
- 5:54Speaker 1: of course, is where they are right now. Percentage wise,
- 5:58Speaker 1: It is similar to the first top of the season,
- 6:00Speaker 1: but the difference is there are fewer games against the
- 6:03Speaker 1: middle group and more games against the two outliers. So
- 6:08Speaker 1: guess what, guys, there's one more slide. Hang with me,
- 6:10Speaker 1: Stay with me. So how did the Twins do in
- 6:13Speaker 1: the first half against these teams. Against teams that are
- 6:16Speaker 1: currently better than five over five hundred, not necessarily when
- 6:20Speaker 1: the Twins played them, but currently better than five games
- 6:22Speaker 1: over five hundred, they were just six and twelve. Against
- 6:25Speaker 1: teams that were between five over and five hundred, they
- 6:28Speaker 1: were twenty five and eighteen by far their best group,
- 6:32Speaker 1: And against teams that are currently worse than five games
- 6:35Speaker 1: under five hundred, they were a fairly disappointing seventeen and nineteen.
- 6:41Speaker 1: So obviously that is not necessarily going to stay exactly
- 6:44Speaker 1: the same in the second half. But if you took
- 6:46Speaker 1: those same winning percentages and applied it to their second
- 6:49Speaker 1: half schedule, five and ten against the good teams, either
- 6:53Speaker 1: fourteen or eleven, or fifteen to ten against the middle group,
- 6:56Speaker 1: and just under five hundred against the worst group, looking
- 7:00Speaker 1: at about thirty one and thirty four overall roughly. Now,
- 7:03Speaker 1: of course that's not going to happen that way. But
- 7:06Speaker 1: my point from all this is simply to say they're
- 7:09Speaker 1: probably going to have to play a little bit better
- 7:10Speaker 1: in the second half than they did in the first
- 7:12Speaker 1: half to get to that playoff spot. But there's an
- 7:15Speaker 1: obvious opportunity there with how poorly they played against the
- 7:18Speaker 1: teams that ended up being being well below five hundred.
- 7:23Speaker 1: If they could just turn that around and be slightly
- 7:25Speaker 1: over five hundred instead of slightly under five hundred, it's
- 7:27Speaker 1: the difference between finishing high seventies wins and probably missing
- 7:31Speaker 1: the playoffs in low eighties and very likely or at
- 7:33Speaker 1: least possibly making it.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Thoughts, it is no four point three percenters would say
- 7:39Speaker 4: they will.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Look they're sixteen to nine or the last twenty five.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Like four weeks ago, we were talking about them being
- 7:46Speaker 4: dead in the water, eight games under five hundred and
- 7:48Speaker 4: being put up or shut up time basically, and they
- 7:52Speaker 4: have put up and they've only really gotten better in
- 7:55Speaker 4: that time. And I mean, look you look at again
- 7:58Speaker 4: when you can roll out a Zebie like Zebbie. Matthews
- 8:00Speaker 4: has stepped up and filled in and made the rotation better.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Bailey over just got back. He was really good before
- 8:08Speaker 4: when he got hurt. His last two starts when he
- 8:10Speaker 4: got hurt were not good and they killed his Zra,
- 8:14Speaker 4: but he was having a good season before that. I
- 8:17Speaker 4: think their rotation when you look at it through that
- 8:20Speaker 4: group is really solid. It's gonna be a little bit
- 8:22Speaker 4: before we see Connor prelip. I think he went on
- 8:24Speaker 4: the IL on July ninth, so he can't even come
- 8:27Speaker 4: back till July twenty fourth. But obviously they want to
- 8:31Speaker 4: manage his workload a little bit, and he had that blister.
- 8:34Speaker 4: But I mean, look, the ingredients are here to play
- 8:38Speaker 4: better than that, and that's seventeen and nineteen is kind
- 8:42Speaker 4: of skewed.
- 8:42Speaker 5: You look at that.
- 8:43Speaker 4: That Royal series really stands out, losing three of four
- 8:46Speaker 4: to the Royals at home in early June, and that's
- 8:49Speaker 4: really before they found their group offensively and got going.
- 8:53Speaker 4: So you know, I feel like this is a little
- 8:56Speaker 4: bit of a different team, and I think it's a
- 8:58Speaker 4: team that knows and believes. And again, just get that
- 9:01Speaker 4: bullpen better and you got a shot, guys.
- 9:05Speaker 1: The All Star Game, of course, was this week. Joe
- 9:07Speaker 1: Ryan a very solid inning. What did you guys think?
- 9:09Speaker 2: Did you did you? Did you see Joe shut down?
- 9:13Speaker 3: Punch out the side?
- 9:14Speaker 2: You're doing all right?
- 9:15Speaker 3: He did punch out the almost no.
- 9:20Speaker 5: A week pop out off Matt Max months. He popped
- 9:22Speaker 5: out to like that shallow center.
- 9:24Speaker 1: To be fair, as I said on Wednesday Show, everybody
- 9:27Speaker 1: did every American leag picture did well on Tuesday Night.
- 9:30Speaker 5: But yeah, Joe Joe did. Joe did give up the
- 9:33Speaker 5: no hitter. Joe Joe.
- 9:35Speaker 2: That's true.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I mean that's true of one of the three hits,
- 9:40Speaker 1: the one Sodo single to lead it off.
- 9:41Speaker 2: But he brought to give it up.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Yeah, and it wasn't even like once hit a nice
- 9:49Speaker 4: hard grounder up the middle. It wasn't like the ball
- 9:51Speaker 4: was smoked. And to come back from that and throw
- 9:54Speaker 4: ninety seven to ninety eight and.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Strike guys out, you know, Joe Ryan.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Did his It was three days right, Yeah, and he
- 10:01Speaker 4: looked very good.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I'd say he did a post He's postseason ready for
- 10:06Speaker 1: the Twins or any other team. We'll talk about that
- 10:08Speaker 1: in a minute. If you'd like to commemorate Joe Ryan's

- 11:52Speaker 4: You got to wonder how many people are going to
- 11:54Speaker 4: be at Wrigley Field for wearing Twins gear tonight. The
- 11:58Speaker 4: only thing is, I think they might have a good
- 12:00Speaker 4: fight on their hands because the Cubs are rolling the
- 12:04Speaker 4: ten year reunion of the twenty sixteen World Series team.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Out this weekend.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I just watched I remember for some reason, I just
- 12:12Speaker 1: watched the highlights of Game seven this morning.
- 12:15Speaker 2: I was at a game.
- 12:16Speaker 4: I was at that game club. Yes, I was a
- 12:22Speaker 4: huge Cubs fan growing up. In fact, they beat my
- 12:25Speaker 4: team in the first round. They beat the Giants and
- 12:28Speaker 4: they knocked them out to get there. But remember, no
- 12:32Speaker 4: Kyle Schwarber because he's still playing, No Chris Bryant because
- 12:35Speaker 4: he's sort of still playing.
- 12:36Speaker 5: And who's no hobby bias because he's in Detroit.
- 12:41Speaker 4: So but should be challenging to see. I wonder if
- 12:45Speaker 4: Twins fans wi't be able to get in the park.
- 12:46Speaker 4: This is one of those weekends where you're going to
- 12:49Speaker 4: have some stiff competition for tickets.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I took my mom there in twenty I remember got
- 12:57Speaker 1: on the field.
- 12:58Speaker 2: We did.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Did we get her on the field.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Yeah, she watched a little practice and had a good time.
- 13:04Speaker 3: That was the That was the heat Stroke series May
- 13:07Speaker 3: and Bobby Wilson was a zombie.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yes, we had amazing We had amazing seats and couldn't
- 13:14Speaker 1: use them because it was just too dreadfully hot. So
- 13:16Speaker 1: we'd like go down for a couple of batters and
- 13:18Speaker 1: then like I was, I was so close. Rizzo was
- 13:21Speaker 1: tossing me, like you know, practice balls that I was,
- 13:24Speaker 1: and yes, I was then handing them out to kids.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Don't worry, I didn't keep any of them. That's awesome,
- 13:28Speaker 2: but yeah it was.
- 13:30Speaker 1: But we just couldn't sit down there for more than
- 13:32Speaker 1: like a half inning at a time. We had to
- 13:33Speaker 1: go find shade because.
- 13:34Speaker 4: I that's funny you say that, because I wonder what
- 13:37Speaker 4: this experience is gonna be like as I look out
- 13:40Speaker 4: my window and it's still smoky.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Smoky in her hand, it's cleared up here finally.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Yeah, it's supposed to maybe at midday get clearer, but
- 13:50Speaker 4: it's supposed to storm tonight. But the temperatures are eighty nine,
- 13:54Speaker 4: ninety and eighty one for.
- 13:55Speaker 5: The three days.
- 13:56Speaker 4: But yeah, hey, let's just go down the rabbit hole.
- 13:59Speaker 4: It real, because we got somebody here from that series
- 14:01Speaker 4: that Zach. Let's ask Duff about seeing Max Kepler and
- 14:07Speaker 4: Eddie Rosario leave the game because of heat exhaustion. The
- 14:11Speaker 4: most fascinating part of this whole thing, Bobby Wilson had
- 14:14Speaker 4: to have six ivs because it was so hot that
- 14:17Speaker 4: twenty eighteen series. But the most fascinating part to me
- 14:21Speaker 4: was not only did he make his major league debut
- 14:24Speaker 4: that day, but the turtle Williams Astadio made it in
- 14:28Speaker 4: center field.
- 14:30Speaker 5: He played center.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Field to make his major league debut because so many
- 14:34Speaker 4: guys got sick because that like what was that three day?
- 14:38Speaker 5: Even the indoor bullpen was like scorching right, you.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Know, well, and it was like it was kind of
- 14:44Speaker 3: like disbelief is like you know, it's hot. Then it
- 14:47Speaker 3: was just like like flies, so just one after another,
- 14:51Speaker 3: and you know, you're scrambling William's Astudios in center field,
- 14:54Speaker 3: like you know, a team scrambling, and it was just
- 14:57Speaker 3: as well as you you're never going to see it again,
- 14:59Speaker 3: Like it just doesn't happen. It's just a freak, you know,
- 15:02Speaker 3: like the Day After Tomorrow or whatever the movie is
- 15:04Speaker 3: with the weather goes crazy. But yeah, it's one of
- 15:07Speaker 3: those like you play like I grew up in Texas
- 15:09Speaker 3: playing in heat and like it's hot, you know whatever,
- 15:12Speaker 3: you just get used to it, you get tempered. But
- 15:14Speaker 3: when you just get thrown into it like that, and
- 15:16Speaker 3: especially in that stadium where like you know, the ballpark
- 15:19Speaker 3: in Arlington comes to mind, where I compared it to
- 15:22Speaker 3: like a convection of it where it's just like there's
- 15:24Speaker 3: a breeze kind of circling and it somehow makes it
- 15:27Speaker 3: hotter and you can't escape it because it's just like
- 15:30Speaker 3: there's a dome over you holding that heat down and
- 15:34Speaker 3: you're just you know, I say, you could chew the air.
- 15:37Speaker 3: You know, it's humid and hot at the same time.
- 15:39Speaker 3: It's just when you you get off that field after
- 15:41Speaker 3: that game and you're just like, I don't know what
- 15:43Speaker 3: to do. You know, guys are cramping up, Guys are
- 15:46Speaker 3: you know, guys don't remember the innings, they were just playing.
- 15:48Speaker 3: It was just it was mayhem. And uh, I'm sure Mike,
- 15:52Speaker 3: Mike Herman's probably got all the story. He's probably worried
- 15:55Speaker 3: about having to call people up, going to the hospital.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Whatever, you know.
- 15:58Speaker 4: It was.
- 15:58Speaker 3: It was a it was a mess, and yeah, hopefully
- 16:02Speaker 3: it doesn't have agand because that'd be a disaster.
- 16:05Speaker 4: So the Friday night or the Friday day was the
- 16:08Speaker 4: first game, it was ninety six at first pitch, Twins
- 16:12Speaker 4: lost ten to six. And the second day Twins lost.
- 16:18Speaker 4: It was ninety one at first pitch. That was the
- 16:20Speaker 4: Twins lost fourteen to nine. That's the day that Astidio
- 16:23Speaker 4: actually debuted and left and then moved to center, and
- 16:26Speaker 4: he was replaced and left. They wanted to get some
- 16:28Speaker 4: better defense that they replaced him in left.
- 16:30Speaker 3: In fact that he debuted in the outfield is just crazy.
- 16:35Speaker 4: They put Logan Morrison the left because they wanted to
- 16:37Speaker 4: upgrade the defense and left. Not really, I would contend
- 16:42Speaker 4: that so low Mo and left, Williams Osidio and center
- 16:46Speaker 4: and Robbie Grossman and right field. I would contend that
- 16:48Speaker 4: is the worst defensive outfield in the history of baseball.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Like legitimately, yes, he was. But in that that Saturday game,
- 17:02Speaker 4: when let's see Rosario, Wilson, Kepler and I think there
- 17:07Speaker 4: was a fourth I think, oh it was it was
- 17:09Speaker 4: Jake Cave. I believe maybe it wasn't Cave, but he
- 17:12Speaker 4: was replaced at one point. But like four guys left
- 17:15Speaker 4: with heat exhaustion. So adam Berto Mahia started. He gave
- 17:19Speaker 4: up four runs. Addison Reid pitched two thirds, he gave
- 17:22Speaker 4: up four runs. Zach Duke got a blown save. So
- 17:26Speaker 4: you guys were in this game enough where Zach Duke,
- 17:29Speaker 4: after eight runs had been given up, got a blown save,
- 17:32Speaker 4: giving up a run that was in the sixth inning.
- 17:34Speaker 5: Then Hildy came in.
- 17:35Speaker 4: Trevor Hildenberger came in, pitched one third of ainning and
- 17:38Speaker 4: gave up five runs. The hero of the day was
- 17:41Speaker 4: Matt Belile, who pitched one and two thirds scoreless to
- 17:44Speaker 4: get you guys through that thing.
- 17:46Speaker 3: But that was the family trip, and then I'm pretty
- 17:50Speaker 3: sure that his family trip as well. So like families
- 17:52Speaker 3: are this crowd watching people just dying on the fields
- 17:57Speaker 3: like gladiators.
- 17:59Speaker 4: The last day of the series, it was ninety three.
- 18:02Speaker 4: And remember this is just the main temperature. The heat
- 18:05Speaker 4: index like was through the it was one hundred. It
- 18:08Speaker 4: felt like one hundred every day. There was no breeze,
- 18:11Speaker 4: sitting in the press box was miserable. And so you
- 18:13Speaker 4: go into that last day and so far in the series,
- 18:15Speaker 4: you guys had given up twenty four runs, and you're
- 18:18Speaker 4: probably you look at Lancelin, You're like, all right, let's
- 18:20Speaker 4: get some some innings. Let's get some length here, Lancelot
- 18:23Speaker 4: on this Sunday. Yeah, Lancelin on the Sunday, when is
- 18:27Speaker 4: ninety three one in two thirds seven runs? Matt McGill
- 18:31Speaker 4: came in, gave up two, Taylor Rodgers pitched two and
- 18:35Speaker 4: gave up two, and then Presley pitched two and gave
- 18:38Speaker 4: up nothing.
- 18:39Speaker 5: But I mean, like you.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Talk about just a garbage series for the Twins and
- 18:44Speaker 4: the whole team, just yeah, giving up thirty five runs
- 18:49Speaker 4: and three days at Wrigley in one hundred degree weather.
- 18:52Speaker 1: And they scored twenty five. So you didn't do yourself
- 18:54Speaker 1: as any favors by just like all the every single game,
- 18:58Speaker 1: the shortest one was three hours and twenty seven minutes,
- 19:01Speaker 1: so like.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Yeah, no, And the crazy part is stoppage time there
- 19:09Speaker 4: was the bullpen was so shorthanded that the next day
- 19:13Speaker 4: you guys are in Milwaukee and you're an extras.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Or yeah, you're an extras and.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Zach Lyttel had to make his major league debut coming
- 19:21Speaker 4: out of the bullpen with the bases loaded. He came in, like,
- 19:26Speaker 4: you guys lost. Yeah, you guys lost six to five
- 19:28Speaker 4: in that one. Fernando Rodney blew the safe in the
- 19:32Speaker 4: ninth and Littel had to come in the next inning
- 19:37Speaker 4: and and try to clean up Rodney's mess. And but
- 19:40Speaker 4: I like you guys, It's always those times are fascinating
- 19:43Speaker 4: to me when a bullpen is so short handed, where
- 19:46Speaker 4: like you got fish out of water, situations where zachly
- 19:50Speaker 4: Tel career starter is hey, like Andrew Morris gets broken in, Like,
- 19:56Speaker 4: hey Andrew, we're gonna have your pitch.
- 19:58Speaker 5: Two and mop up. Dude. Here it's April. You've never
- 20:01Speaker 5: done this before. Hey.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Now like a month later, Hey Andrew Morres, all right,
- 20:05Speaker 4: look we're gonna give you the seventh inning today, buddy.
- 20:07Speaker 4: This is gonna be a big step up with Zactly
- 20:10Speaker 4: Tell's like, hey, buddy, sorry, I know the bases are loaded,
- 20:13Speaker 4: but here.
- 20:14Speaker 3: You're a yellow letter with the bases loaded.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Enjoy part of a six game losing streak, followed by
- 20:23Speaker 1: eight wins in nine games after that.
- 20:26Speaker 4: But yeah, and then they had a massive cell off
- 20:28Speaker 4: at the deadline A couple of weeks later, that was
- 20:32Speaker 4: what Presley lance Lynn Jacob Rosi didn't get traded, but
- 20:36Speaker 4: he was wearing jeans before he started Fenway, which led to.
- 20:42Speaker 5: He sat in the speculation was running rampant.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Well, this is certainly not what I planned for the
- 20:51Speaker 1: second segment, but that's that's quite all right. H If

- 22:14Speaker 1: All right, we are back. Twins open the second half
- 22:18Speaker 1: tonight in Chicago. Dan's written a few things this week,
- 22:23Speaker 1: but the one we've been talking about so far on
- 22:26Speaker 1: the show. Do the Twins have a chance in the
- 22:28Speaker 1: second half to return to the playoffs? You can read
- 22:30Speaker 1: that right now on The Athletic, along with all of
- 22:31Speaker 1: Dan's latest stuff. We already sort of asked that general question,
- 22:35Speaker 1: but Dan, you posed some specific ones in the article
- 22:38Speaker 1: and one that we will continue to probably come back
- 22:41Speaker 1: to over the next couple of weeks, as will they
- 22:43Speaker 1: be deadline buyers or sellers or a combination of the two?
- 22:47Speaker 1: In some way, Where do you feel like we stand
- 22:50Speaker 1: at this moment? Obviously thinks subject to change.
- 22:54Speaker 4: I've made my shopping list a little earlier and ready
- 22:57Speaker 4: to go. And we're not talking about going to like
- 23:00Speaker 4: big lots or we want to we want to go
- 23:02Speaker 4: out there and get some I don't know, we want
- 23:05Speaker 4: to go to a good store.
- 23:06Speaker 5: I don't know the big lots. I apologize the big lots.
- 23:09Speaker 5: Can we start that over?
- 23:11Speaker 2: We're going to Yeah, keep going, you're good.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Yeah, this is I want to starting pitcher and I
- 23:17Speaker 4: want two relievers. And I don't necessarily need the greatest
- 23:22Speaker 4: relievers that I don't need name recognition. I just need
- 23:25Speaker 4: guys that have some some gas and some guys that
- 23:28Speaker 4: can strike guys out. Not be relying on the defense.
- 23:32Speaker 4: But let's build out that bullpen. Let's add two guys
- 23:35Speaker 4: to that group. They've been doing everything they can, and
- 23:38Speaker 4: that's one of the things I wrote about this week
- 23:40Speaker 4: was there they have turned over every rock searching for
- 23:44Speaker 4: an answer to their bullpen issues, and their twenty ninth
- 23:47Speaker 4: and e RA they're twenty second in win probability added.
- 23:52Speaker 4: There's a lot of ugly stats attached to this group.
- 23:55Speaker 4: You can remember back to individual moments where they struggled.
- 23:59Speaker 5: But let's get two guys.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Let's see Derek Shelton operate with two more guys that
- 24:05Speaker 4: can give them maybe not even the same level of
- 24:09Speaker 4: pitching that that Jo Andros Gomez and Andrew Morris have
- 24:12Speaker 4: given them, but just stability, like guys that have sub
- 24:16Speaker 4: three ras. That'd be nice to have two more guys
- 24:20Speaker 4: like that to throw in the mix and give them
- 24:23Speaker 4: guys so that you don't have to throw you know,
- 24:26Speaker 4: your pitchers three out our four days, that kind of thing,
- 24:29Speaker 4: because Andrew Morris is gonna get tired at some point.
- 24:31Speaker 5: He's a rookie.
- 24:31Speaker 4: He's been outstanding in his eras like two thirty since
- 24:35Speaker 4: June one tons of strike maybe maybe it was even
- 24:38Speaker 4: like a little bit before that. I put the stat
- 24:40Speaker 4: in one of the stories. But in his last thirty
- 24:42Speaker 4: four in's he has like thirty seven strikeouts.
- 24:45Speaker 5: He's been very good and so add that.
- 24:49Speaker 4: But I also I want to see starting pitching at
- 24:51Speaker 4: him because Connor Prelip is around eighty two innings right now,
- 24:54Speaker 4: and I think Connor Prelip will max out at like
- 24:58Speaker 4: one thirty and the Twin will monitor it and Duff
- 25:01Speaker 4: maybe you can answer this as to what teams monitor
- 25:05Speaker 4: what they're looking at, because it's not just velocity they're
- 25:08Speaker 4: looking at, like your your vertical jump, you're all the
- 25:11Speaker 4: workouts in between starts. They they are using analytics to
- 25:15Speaker 4: monitor your physical health before you go to the mound.
- 25:19Speaker 4: And you know, Connor Prilips got forty eight innings left maybe,
- 25:23Speaker 4: and we're talking about a guy that's right now at
- 25:25Speaker 4: his career high for at with.
- 25:28Speaker 5: Sixty five games to go. He's not on the active roster.
- 25:31Speaker 4: They're going to manage him here and they'll probably missing
- 25:33Speaker 4: their ten games, but that still leaves fifty five that's
- 25:37Speaker 4: potentially up to eleven turns. I would love if they
- 25:40Speaker 4: went out and got someone to replace him in the
- 25:43Speaker 4: rotation or be able to space him out more. So
- 25:46Speaker 4: that's on my shopping list to really risen the starting pitcher.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it sounds good, I would say Tyler. Obviously, any
- 25:56Speaker 1: trades like that would require giving up some pross likely,
- 26:00Speaker 1: but the Twins do have two pieces that still remain
- 26:04Speaker 1: a tough call in Ryan Jeffers and Joe Ryan. If
- 26:07Speaker 1: if you don't intend to bring him back long term now,
- 26:10Speaker 1: it would be a great time to trade him potentially
- 26:12Speaker 1: to refill that cupboard or whatever your strategy might be.
- 26:15Speaker 1: But do either of those still feel like, how do
- 26:20Speaker 1: you how do you sell that? How do you how
- 26:21Speaker 1: do you buy and sell at the same time. I
- 26:23Speaker 1: guess it's I think it's.
- 26:24Speaker 3: It's got to be the catching move. And like we've
- 26:27Speaker 3: talked about Jeffers a lot because he was the starter,
- 26:30Speaker 3: he's the free agent. But I think you have to listen,
- 26:33Speaker 3: we kind of talked about this last show. I think
- 26:36Speaker 3: you've got to wait for those calls to come in
- 26:38Speaker 3: because there's going to be calls for a catcher. You know,
- 26:41Speaker 3: every team needs hit, a catcher that can hit. We
- 26:44Speaker 3: technically have three of those right now. Obviously Jackson is
- 26:48Speaker 3: you know, the kind of the odd man out for
- 26:50Speaker 3: lack of a better term. But I don't think you
- 26:54Speaker 3: can give up Joe if you want to contend. You know, Joe,
- 26:58Speaker 3: you can't just plug in. There's only so many of
- 27:00Speaker 3: him even in the.
- 27:00Speaker 2: League right now.
- 27:02Speaker 3: But catching, you've you've got a switch hitter in Kartini
- 27:06Speaker 3: who's been doing a great job, who's versatile. You can
- 27:09Speaker 3: move him around if you need to. You know, Jackson,
- 27:12Speaker 3: you signed to I guess he's on a one year
- 27:13Speaker 3: technically as well, so you're you're not really tied to
- 27:16Speaker 3: any of them. So if you can get something for
- 27:20Speaker 3: one of them, I think that's a good idea to
- 27:22Speaker 3: go get Dan's group of pitchers. You know, I don't
- 27:26Speaker 3: know that the Yankees are always in talks, but there's
- 27:28Speaker 3: a lot of teams that would probably be more than
- 27:31Speaker 3: happy to have Ryan Jeffers. So you got to listen
- 27:34Speaker 3: to phone calls. You got to see what comes out
- 27:37Speaker 3: of those. And and to Dan's point, you know, with
- 27:39Speaker 3: the bullpen stuff, it's you know, like I said before,
- 27:42Speaker 3: you have one one guy in the pen. It doesn't
- 27:46Speaker 3: take this shuffling lineups around or telling guys who're playing
- 27:49Speaker 3: new positions.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 27:50Speaker 3: You just slought him in and he goes to work,
- 27:53Speaker 3: and there's a lot that can happen very quickly with that.
- 27:57Speaker 3: And Prelip is a guy potentially if they use them
- 28:01Speaker 3: in a very structured bullpen roll, they could kind of
- 28:05Speaker 3: manipulate the innings there if they don't want them to
- 28:08Speaker 3: start for the rest of the year. You know, obviously
- 28:10Speaker 3: you'd love to have him in the rotation, but if
- 28:12Speaker 3: he's going to be limited, like that on innings you
- 28:14Speaker 3: can kind of almost pick days where he's just going
- 28:17Speaker 3: to pitch and just have it be like, hey, you're
- 28:19Speaker 3: gonna throw here and this game and whatever, and you know,
- 28:23Speaker 3: they analyze it pretty pretty incredibly. There's a every team's
- 28:28Speaker 3: got a different one, but there's one data track is
- 28:30Speaker 3: called SIMI. I believe it's one the Twins had. There's
- 28:33Speaker 3: camera it's like fifteen or thirteen of them around that
- 28:35Speaker 3: stadium that pick up every move you make, like it
- 28:39Speaker 3: can sense your shoulders while you're breathing. You know, everybody
- 28:42Speaker 3: on the field running things like that. So between spin rates,
- 28:46Speaker 3: stuff in the weight room, your actual biomechanics while you're throwing.
- 28:51Speaker 2: They have all.
- 28:52Speaker 3: The markers for all the red flags. As soon as
- 28:55Speaker 3: you do something out of the ordinary, it pops up
- 28:57Speaker 3: on somebody's computer, you know, whoever's back in the last
- 29:01Speaker 3: under the belly of the stadium. They know right away
- 29:05Speaker 3: when something's changing, and they're not going to let a
- 29:07Speaker 3: guy like Connor get into trouble because he's clearly got
- 29:12Speaker 3: some incredible upside. So it's like, make sure he's healthy.
- 29:15Speaker 3: You know, this blister is probably gonna end up being
- 29:17Speaker 3: a little blessing in the skies. It's going to give
- 29:19Speaker 3: them probably two to three weeks of downtime for him,
- 29:23Speaker 3: so they can make sure he's very right before he
- 29:26Speaker 3: comes back, get him some good rest, you know, ramp
- 29:28Speaker 3: him up however they want to, and you know, see
- 29:31Speaker 3: where we end up. It's that's one of those that's
- 29:33Speaker 3: the trade without making a trade. If he comes back,
- 29:36Speaker 3: you know, put him in the bullpen and he becomes
- 29:38Speaker 3: a weapon for the second half. Like that's a move
- 29:41Speaker 3: without having to do anything.
- 29:45Speaker 1: The next question in Dan's article was about how how
- 29:48Speaker 1: you fix the bullpen. I think we've basically addressed that
- 29:51Speaker 1: trade make a trade. But the other one was about
- 29:54Speaker 1: Byron Buxton specifically and whether he can keep it up.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I'm expanding and here can the offense in general stay
- 29:59Speaker 1: high because the run scoring continues to be, you know,
- 30:04Speaker 1: at least statistically speaking, anomalously high, and it's been a
- 30:09Speaker 1: key part of their success so far this season. So Dan,
- 30:13Speaker 1: what do you think?
- 30:15Speaker 5: I think? So yes, here's why.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Look, one thing I can tell you is sometimes you
- 30:21Speaker 4: get to that break and you don't want to go home,
- 30:23Speaker 4: and you're going hot and your offense is great and
- 30:27Speaker 4: twins to one sixteen twenty five. But a lot got
- 30:31Speaker 4: thrown at these guys. In the first the pre All
- 30:34Speaker 4: Star break portion of this season, Brooksley made a position change.
- 30:38Speaker 4: Brooksley is still trying to figure himself out as a hitter,
- 30:41Speaker 4: right and he went from shortstop to third base. Royce
- 30:44Speaker 4: Lee Royce Lewis went to the minor leagues and kind
- 30:48Speaker 4: of recovered and figured it out and got himself back
- 30:51Speaker 4: functional as a hitter. Luke Keishall went from second base
- 30:54Speaker 4: to right field and now he's in center field a
- 30:56Speaker 4: little bit. The break came at a really good time.
- 30:59Speaker 4: I think these are a lot of young guys who,
- 31:01Speaker 4: like you heard them, like a few guys were going
- 31:04Speaker 4: them and their fiances or wives were going to a
- 31:07Speaker 4: lake house up in Duluth, and other guys were just
- 31:09Speaker 4: going to Lake Minnetonka, and nobody was going that far
- 31:13Speaker 4: and out of like just going crazy with their trip
- 31:17Speaker 4: because they're all exhausted. But they were all going to
- 31:19Speaker 4: look for some rest and recovery, and I think the
- 31:23Speaker 4: break came in a perfect time for them. They can
- 31:26Speaker 4: kind of reconvene, but they left on a good note.
- 31:28Speaker 5: They won another series.
- 31:29Speaker 4: They won for the eighth time in nine game or
- 31:32Speaker 4: nine series they won on Sunday.
- 31:35Speaker 5: They've won six straight rubber matches.
- 31:37Speaker 4: That's something we talked about early in the year, them
- 31:39Speaker 4: needing to close those and not miss opportunities. They're ten
- 31:42Speaker 4: and six in rubber matches after losing that. Believe their
- 31:45Speaker 4: first four or five they were terrible at it.
- 31:48Speaker 5: A'd start.
- 31:48Speaker 4: They're good at that now. So they went home on
- 31:52Speaker 4: good vibes. They're just like, I.
- 31:54Speaker 5: Think this is.
- 31:56Speaker 4: Something that they go home and they're looking forward to
- 31:59Speaker 4: coming back and it's not coming back and going, oh man,
- 32:02Speaker 4: what am I walking into the trade deadlines in three weeks?
- 32:04Speaker 5: You know it's coming back and going.
- 32:06Speaker 4: Oh man, we're walking back into this and the trade
- 32:08Speaker 4: deadlines coming in two or three weeks.
- 32:10Speaker 5: What are we going to do?
- 32:11Speaker 4: And I think that's a real prime opportunity for the
- 32:14Speaker 4: front office and especially Tom Pollad, because two years ago
- 32:18Speaker 4: that was the most disappointed group and only a few
- 32:22Speaker 4: guys would say it, and they would only say it
- 32:25Speaker 4: on background, off record, but there were a lot of
- 32:27Speaker 4: pissed people in that clubhouse when you cut payroll by
- 32:30Speaker 4: thirty million going into the year and the team is
- 32:33Speaker 4: playing well at the break and they were seventy and
- 32:37Speaker 4: fifty three at one point and they didn't add to
- 32:40Speaker 4: the group, and that was just such a missed opportunity
- 32:43Speaker 4: to get the players like the reinforcements they need. And
- 32:47Speaker 4: I think this is a prime shot where you have
- 32:50Speaker 4: guys upbeat, you have the starting that the front end
- 32:52Speaker 4: starting pitching in place. I know we're talking offense, can
- 32:56Speaker 4: it stay healthy.
- 32:57Speaker 2: But I just think this is.
- 33:00Speaker 4: I just see this as a good window for the Twins,
- 33:03Speaker 4: and I think the offense will be healthy because there's
- 33:05Speaker 4: a lot of optimism going into this next stretch.
- 33:09Speaker 5: It's a fun road trip.
- 33:11Speaker 4: You got a lot of competitive games to come back
- 33:12Speaker 4: to and then you come home and have some you know,
- 33:16Speaker 4: Kansas City and the Athletics and two teams that are struggling,
- 33:22Speaker 4: So you get a chance to come home and get
- 33:23Speaker 4: fat right before going on the deadline. And I think
- 33:26Speaker 4: that's that's a good way to start it. I think
- 33:28Speaker 4: the offense will absolutely Byron Buckson, I don't know what
- 33:32Speaker 4: if he'll be in the lineup on Friday or not.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Derek Shelton on Sunday with non committal about that, He
- 33:37Speaker 4: said that he expected he thought he was gonna have
- 33:40Speaker 4: him back during this road trip, and he hoped to
- 33:43Speaker 4: have him back in Chicago. But what Byron buckson how
- 33:48Speaker 4: his hip is progressing, will we will? We will certainly
- 33:51Speaker 4: find out, but he is active or he is eligible
- 33:54Speaker 4: to come off on Friday, but I don't know that
- 33:57Speaker 4: that's the case. Looking past it. It costs him twenty
- 33:59Speaker 4: eight games two years ago with the hip. This is
- 34:02Speaker 4: their shot to get it right. So I don't think
- 34:04Speaker 4: that they're going to half asset. I think that they
- 34:05Speaker 4: will take the opportunity here and make sure it's right.
- 34:10Speaker 4: Because when he comes back, this is like, we're getting
- 34:12Speaker 4: you ready for this stretch run. We want you to
- 34:14Speaker 4: be as healthy as you can be for sixty games.
- 34:17Speaker 4: So when he's ready, he will be in there. They're
- 34:20Speaker 4: hopeful it's on this trip and we'll know more when
- 34:22Speaker 4: I get to the ballpark later.
- 34:25Speaker 2: All right, cool, Tyler, you're feeling about the bats.
- 34:29Speaker 3: It's good. Like Dan said, you know, guys were kind
- 34:31Speaker 3: of on a roll, you know, but also there's a
- 34:34Speaker 3: lot of younger guys who maybe do need a little breather.
- 34:38Speaker 5: You know.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Some of the veterans have been through this before and
- 34:42Speaker 3: know how to come out well, Dan was talking. It
- 34:45Speaker 3: did kind of spark a thought of it's I like
- 34:48Speaker 3: having two meaningful series kind of out of the gate. Yeah,
- 34:52Speaker 3: because there's no time to like kind of like okay,
- 34:55Speaker 3: like here we go, you know, let's get back to it.
- 34:57Speaker 3: It's like, no, we're in Chicago World Series sell you know,
- 35:00Speaker 3: ten year anniversaries here, Like it's gonna be electric tonight.
- 35:05Speaker 3: That that's that's good for the guys. That's gonna get
- 35:07Speaker 3: everybody fired up coming into that building. You're already it's
- 35:10Speaker 3: another one of those historic buildings. You walk in and
- 35:13Speaker 3: it's just like it's just baseball. There's it's in its
- 35:16Speaker 3: purest form. You're everybody's there to see you play. You know,
- 35:20Speaker 3: the history that's in that building. Things like that. You know,
- 35:23Speaker 3: it's a it's a cool place. It'll get your the
- 35:26Speaker 3: juices going a little bit. You know, it's one guys
- 35:30Speaker 3: will show up ready to play tonight, that's for sure.
- 35:32Speaker 3: You know, they probably had a little workout yesterday, I
- 35:33Speaker 3: would imagine for those who were there, you know, they
- 35:37Speaker 3: always have like a little optional you know, but it
- 35:40Speaker 3: is very optional, especially when Shelter's around, like hey, do
- 35:43Speaker 3: not come if you don't want to be here, but
- 35:46Speaker 3: you know, go get your feet under you, you know,
- 35:48Speaker 3: run some sprints things like that. I'm sure everybody did that.
- 35:50Speaker 3: And you know the boys are gonna be ready to
- 35:52Speaker 3: play tonight. It's gonna be a fun one.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Good segue.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Three games at Wrigley Field this weekend against the Cubs,
- 36:00Speaker 1: one of those teams from that more than five games
- 36:03Speaker 1: over five hundred, category fifty four and forty two, I believe,
- 36:06Speaker 1: so tough tests.
- 36:07Speaker 5: And they're playing great.
- 36:08Speaker 4: They're playing yep, twelve above five hundred or the less
- 36:12Speaker 4: twenty ish. I'm not sure they're really good lately.
- 36:16Speaker 1: And then followed immediately by four games against Cleveland. We
- 36:19Speaker 1: were talking off Air and Dan and you know, obviously
- 36:25Speaker 1: the Twins would love to go in and win both
- 36:27Speaker 1: of these series and come out feeling super high. But
- 36:30Speaker 1: even three and four in these seven games kind of
- 36:33Speaker 1: feels like the break even feel okay about it type situation.
- 36:36Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 36:38Speaker 4: Yeah, and you have Todds Bradley twice and Joe Ryan
- 36:41Speaker 4: once in that seven game stretch.
- 36:43Speaker 5: You have Bailey over starting you on Friday. I can't
- 36:46Speaker 5: think of better.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Group to go in and try to cool off opposing
- 36:52Speaker 4: offenses and get your team going. Look they're they're rolling,
- 36:57Speaker 4: and I think that they are in their best spot
- 37:01Speaker 4: possible to go into this. You know, they're they're coming
- 37:04Speaker 4: back feeling good. Joe Ryan and Byron Buxton were the
- 37:08Speaker 4: only guys that want an All Star Game, but you know,
- 37:12Speaker 4: like just talking to guys, most were staying local. Josh
- 37:14Speaker 4: Bell has three young kids. He was not taking his
- 37:17Speaker 4: I think his oldest is four, maybe his oldest is six.
- 37:20Speaker 3: I was like, is a disaster.
- 37:23Speaker 4: I was like, you're not going to an air ford,
- 37:25Speaker 4: are you?
- 37:25Speaker 5: And he said no.
- 37:26Speaker 4: And look, and you even get easy travel to start
- 37:29Speaker 4: the second half. You're one hour flight to Chicago, one
- 37:32Speaker 4: hour flight to Cleveland, ninety minutes home afterwards.
- 37:36Speaker 5: They're they're in a good spot, and so I expect.
- 37:39Speaker 3: It to be.
- 37:40Speaker 4: I've gone into Wrigley with the Twins before in twenty eighteen, specifically,
- 37:44Speaker 4: and remember the thinking, God, they're going to get murdered,
- 37:48Speaker 4: and I don't really feel like that right now, even
- 37:50Speaker 4: with the twenty sixteen crowd going to be on hand
- 37:53Speaker 4: to celebrate that team.
- 37:55Speaker 5: You just the Twins are. They don't air.
- 37:58Speaker 4: They've been playing hard series, important series for more than
- 38:01Speaker 4: a month now, going back to when they were eight
- 38:03Speaker 4: games under five hundred.
- 38:05Speaker 5: They are having fun.
- 38:06Speaker 4: They like each other, like they're they're not afraid of challenges,
- 38:10Speaker 4: and they know they can hit with anybody, which is
- 38:13Speaker 4: now like their sixth in baseball, and a lot of
- 38:17Speaker 4: those offenses are in the National League, the five best
- 38:21Speaker 4: offenses in Baseball and nationally Twins aren't very far back
- 38:24Speaker 4: from that, and they can they can get the started pitching,
- 38:26Speaker 4: they'll keep them in a game, so they know that.
- 38:29Speaker 4: I think that's a good place to be going in.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Friday night is a seven oh five central start Bailey
- 38:35Speaker 1: Ober for the Twins against Colin Ray Saturday one.
- 38:39Speaker 5: Twenty rare Friday night game. Rare?
- 38:42Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 38:42Speaker 1: Do you is that because it's after the All Star break?
- 38:45Speaker 5: Just? I think it's here two nights in a row?
- 38:48Speaker 5: I think? Is that how you say it? Noah Khan?
- 38:50Speaker 4: Is there a Kahan that he sold out Wrigley two
- 38:54Speaker 4: nights in a row and his last concert destroyed?
- 38:57Speaker 5: Great, I'm sure that's exactly what it is.
- 38:59Speaker 4: I was like, Oh, maybe that you know, they're coming
- 39:01Speaker 4: out of the break and they want to give all
- 39:02Speaker 4: these guys a little more time. No, there there was
- 39:04Speaker 4: a concert literally on this field, and at least one
- 39:07Speaker 4: or two of the staff members from The Twins flew
- 39:09Speaker 4: in for the Wednesday show.
- 39:13Speaker 5: This is the guy.
- 39:14Speaker 4: This is the guy who had a really interesting fan
- 39:16Speaker 4: incident at his Pittsburgh show. Or the fan chose not
- 39:19Speaker 4: to go to the bathroom but just to go to
- 39:21Speaker 4: the bathroom in their pants at the show, and he
- 39:24Speaker 4: tweeted about it.
- 39:24Speaker 5: You should check it out.
- 39:25Speaker 4: It's no, this ain't that kind of bathroom stuff. This
- 39:29Speaker 4: is a different one.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Oh no, it happens.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Yeah, don't don't listen to Wow. This show gets to
- 39:37Speaker 1: like the thirty eight minute mark. It just goes south
- 39:39Speaker 1: every time.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Tyler.
- 39:42Speaker 5: I think that's why the Friday game.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Is it advantage Twins or advantage Cubs that the field
- 39:47Speaker 1: might be destroyed?
- 39:49Speaker 3: I don't know, probably honestly the Twins. Yeah, you know,
- 39:52Speaker 3: PCA is gonna get a weird hop out there, right
- 39:54Speaker 3: and it's going to go into the ivy, so the
- 39:57Speaker 3: go us there we go.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Anyway, continuing on other.
- 40:02Speaker 5: Matters, we got no con reference in this. We're hip,
- 40:05Speaker 5: We're cool cool.
- 40:08Speaker 1: You're not even sure that's how you say it, but yes,
- 40:10Speaker 1: we're hipping cool.
- 40:10Speaker 5: I know.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Friday night game, got that covered. Saturday afternoon Taj Bradley
- 40:16Speaker 1: and Matthew Boyd at also one twenty on Sunday Zebi
- 40:20Speaker 1: Matthews against showda Imanaga in the finale. Maybe the Twins
- 40:24Speaker 1: trying to win another rubber game, who knows, We'll see.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Uh. That's all for us.
- 40:29Speaker 1: We'll be back with you on Monday to set up
- 40:31Speaker 1: to talk about whatever happens this weekend obviously, and set
