- 0:16Speaker 2: we welcome our special guest this week, Taco.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Yesterday, people are loving your segment.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Hello.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Hello. Diary of a Black Man.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And a lot of comments I looked at after the show.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Yes.
- 0:30Speaker 1: And I responded to all of them for you.
- 0:32Speaker 2: It's Paramore Brown.
- 0:34Speaker 3: There you go. Thank you very much. And howdy, people.
- 0:36Speaker 3: How we doing out there in Radio Land? I think, yeah,
- 0:40Speaker 3: it's Radio Land. And Podcast Land.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Podcast Land, I guess you would call it.
- 0:43Speaker 3: There you go. That's what I'm talking about.
- 0:44Speaker 1: While he's doing this, in case you're just listening to
- 0:47Speaker 1: it later in the day and you're not watching it,
- 0:49Speaker 1: he's pointing at the camera.
- 0:51Speaker 2: He clowns for the camera.
- 0:52Speaker 3: He does. Yes. Well, I thought the camera was watching me,
- 0:56Speaker 3: so I'm watching the camera. So what is he saying?
- 0:58Speaker 3: The camera just points at me at will?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's locked on you, but I will say this.
- 1:04Speaker 2: You are photogenic, dude.
- 1:06Speaker 3: There you go. Well, your OPD thinks so, too. You
- 1:09Speaker 3: know what I'm saying? Well, they used to. They used to.
- 1:11Speaker 2: They used to. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I was talking to somebody about you yesterday, and I said, yeah,
- 1:16Speaker 1: he's a– it was a friend of mine. And we
- 1:20Speaker 1: were talking about whatever, and I got– yeah, he– He
- 1:23Speaker 1: boxed it. He goes, oh, I bet he boxed down
- 1:26Speaker 1: at the downtown place. And I said, yes, he did.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, at the Pal Center, and then I switched over
- 1:32Speaker 3: to Church Street Gym. Yes.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Can you show us some of your mug shots from
- 1:36Speaker 2: back in the day? Do you have them? Oh, I
- 1:38Speaker 2: could dig them up.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yes. I don't know if you can dig them up,
- 1:42Speaker 3: because Ripper tried to dig them up, and she couldn't
- 1:44Speaker 3: find them.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Oh, well, she can't find them.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Oh, she's sleuthing everything out.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I mean, like, she's jack of all trades, but she's
- 1:50Speaker 3: a master stalker on the internet. Pfft.
- 1:53Speaker 2: It's one of his coworkers down the promo department.
- 1:55Speaker 1: You can't be just tossing Master Stalker on there. She
- 1:59Speaker 1: just knows how to get info.
- 2:00Speaker 2: She's an internet sleuth. There's nothing wrong with that.
- 2:02Speaker 3: No, I don't mean nothing bad about it, but I'm
- 2:05Speaker 3: just telling the truth.
- 2:06Speaker 1: It is what it is.
- 2:07Speaker 3: And that's right, Ripper.
- 2:09Speaker 2: How many years ago is that? This may be before
- 2:11Speaker 2: even all this stuff is really chronicled online. 1989. Oh,
- 2:13Speaker 2: good Lord, dude.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I mean, like, dude, I'm 63, but at the same time,
- 2:22Speaker 3: I've done a lot. I've done a lot. I was
- 2:25Speaker 3: in juvie a lot on Michigan. What was that, Michigan? Yeah, yeah,
- 2:30Speaker 3: on Michigan. Yeah, I was at the juvie a lot.
- 2:33Speaker 2: What was the longest stretch you did in juvenile detention?
- 2:36Speaker 3: Oh, I think about three or four months. I went
- 2:40Speaker 3: to a halfway house called the Orange House. It used
- 2:42Speaker 3: to be on OBT, right next to the old truck stop.
- 2:45Speaker 3: And I did, like, I think like four and a
- 2:48Speaker 3: half months, you know, and I graduated from there.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Did you, did you, oh, you graduated school from there?
- 2:53Speaker 3: No, I graduated.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Your way out.
- 2:56Speaker 3: The program. Yeah.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Is that when you got set straight finally? No. Or
- 3:00Speaker 2: do you feel like this is juvenile? Yeah.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:04Speaker 2: All right.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Good.
- 3:05Speaker 2: We're going here. Cause I have a question for you
- 3:07Speaker 2: on that.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Really quick. I was trying to slide in. Did you
- 3:10Speaker 1: ever go to the topless donut joint on OBT?
- 3:13Speaker 3: We had a lot of topless joints.
- 3:15Speaker 1: The donut shop that they were topless in?
- 3:19Speaker 3: No, no, sir. I don't think they let blacks in
- 3:22Speaker 3: at that time.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Okay, Pat, go ahead.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Okay, so you've had experience in both juvenile detention and
- 3:29Speaker 2: then the regular justice system in the big house. Yes, sir.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Compare and contrast those two experiences.
- 3:39Speaker 3: In the juvenile, I was almost like in training. I
- 3:42Speaker 3: was like, you know what I'm saying, getting to understand
- 3:44Speaker 3: the system and stuff. By the time that I got
- 3:46Speaker 3: to the dungeon, the dungeon is the main jail downtown.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Now it's the library and stuff. Now it's the museum.
- 3:55Speaker 3: But by the time I got there, yeah, I was
- 4:00Speaker 3: pretty prepared. But 33rd used to be a farm. They
- 4:03Speaker 3: used to call that the farm. And they had Part one, two,
- 4:07Speaker 3: and three, they were juvenile, and part four, five, and
- 4:10Speaker 3: six was adults.
- 4:11Speaker 2: So it all used to be in the same area there?
- 4:14Speaker 3: No, sir, no, sir, no, sir. They separated the juveniles
- 4:17Speaker 3: from the adults and stuff. Okay. You know what I'm saying?
- 4:19Speaker 3: And you had to be a special quality to get
- 4:21Speaker 3: to the, well, for the adults, you had to be
- 4:23Speaker 3: a special quality to get to four, five, and six.
- 4:26Speaker 3: But the juvenile, mostly they moved them to part one, two,
- 4:31Speaker 3: and three because, you know, the juvenile population was small.
- 4:34Speaker 3: was getting there.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And that was in the 90s, correct? No, sir.
- 4:37Speaker 2: No, sir.
- 4:37Speaker 3: That was in the 80s.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Juvie was in the 80s.
- 4:40Speaker 1: In 89, he was in Juvie.
- 4:42Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. In the 70s,
- 4:45Speaker 3: I was in the Juvie.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah, yeah, yes.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I was, oh my God. I mean, like, they waved
- 4:51Speaker 3: me over when I was 16. So I was in prison.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I was in Lake Butler at the age of 16.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Oh, okay. I remember when it was Juvie's at At 33rd,
- 5:04Speaker 1: because when I did my Valencia tour of the correctional facility.
- 5:08Speaker 2: When you were in the juvenile detention, were you running
- 5:12Speaker 2: the place as far as the, let's say, the guests go?
- 5:17Speaker 3: Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no. I was like,
- 5:19Speaker 3: I was one of them, let live and let live, because,
- 5:22Speaker 3: you know, I didn't get involved in stuff. But I
- 5:24Speaker 3: did meet my best friend, my first best friend, Tim Blanchard.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I met him on Michigan Street. He was going back
- 5:34Speaker 3: to take shampoo. He was going back to take a shower.
- 5:37Speaker 3: And he had some strawberry shampoo. And he's a little
- 5:39Speaker 3: sharp redhead guy. And some brothers jumped on him to
- 5:44Speaker 3: take his shampoo. And I seen like about four or
- 5:46Speaker 3: five people jumping on one guy.
- 5:48Speaker 2: This is in juvie?
- 5:48Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Over a bottle of shampoo?
- 5:50Speaker 3: Yes, yes, yes, yes. And I see about four or
- 5:53Speaker 3: five guys jumping on one guy. And I just didn't
- 5:57Speaker 3: sit right. So I jumped and I helped him. And
- 6:00Speaker 3: me and Tim, you know what I'm saying, now we
- 6:01Speaker 3: even up the odds. We're doing pretty good. But then
- 6:04Speaker 3: all of a sudden, this big old white dude come around,
- 6:07Speaker 3: and he got curly red hair like Tim. But he
- 6:10Speaker 3: throwing people left and right, left and right. And I
- 6:12Speaker 3: told Tim, let's get back to back. There's a big
- 6:14Speaker 3: one coming. And Tim turned around and looked. He said, no, man,
- 6:17Speaker 3: that's my brother. I said, now.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Oh, they were both in there. They were both in there.
- 6:20Speaker 2: About damn time, Tim's brother. Oh, yeah. When did the
- 6:25Speaker 2: screws intervene? Where were the screws, man?
- 6:29Speaker 3: But man, they sit back.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Did you call them the screws?
- 6:32Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Is that just in the movies? I knew.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I was like, it's in the pat.
- 6:37Speaker 3: That part, that part. No, we call them officers.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Okay. Yes, yes, yes.
- 6:42Speaker 3: And then in prison, we call them COs. You know
- 6:45Speaker 3: what I'm saying? I got locked up in a box
- 6:47Speaker 3: because I wouldn't call a guy boss.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Oh, you see that in the movies too.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Yes, but that is true.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Hey, boss, boss.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I just throw up my hand.
- 6:57Speaker 3: I said, yo, I got bathroom, sir. And that's it. Oh, oh,
- 7:01Speaker 3: you're going to call me boss. Well, you know, you're
- 7:03Speaker 3: going to have a long day because I ain't saying nothing.
- 7:05Speaker 2: I could see it where a black person wouldn't really
- 7:09Speaker 2: be down with calling anybody boss because there's some history
- 7:12Speaker 2: there with that.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Yes, sir. But you'd be surprised how many toe tappers. Oh,
- 7:16Speaker 3: my God. Toe tappers.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Toe-tapper in your definition.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Like, yes, boss, me's a good one for you. I'd
- 7:25Speaker 3: go over there and do that for you, boss. I
- 7:27Speaker 3: don't move, boss.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Kiss ass.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I got you.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Booyah. I don't cuss, but that was a good one. Hello.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Okay, so I was going to. The experience of juvie
- 7:38Speaker 2: versus the experience of the adult correctional facility. Which one
- 7:43Speaker 2: did you have more difficult time dealing with?
- 7:46Speaker 3: I had more time dealing with the prison system only
- 7:51Speaker 3: because I lost so much. I lost my mom. I
- 7:54Speaker 3: lost a couple of my uncles. That's all while you
- 7:56Speaker 3: were locked up.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes.
- 7:58Speaker 3: That's all while I was locked up. But so far
- 8:00Speaker 3: as doing time, if you just stay away from the
- 8:03Speaker 3: sex games and stay away from the pettiness, you'll be
- 8:08Speaker 3: all right. You know what I'm saying? Like, you know
- 8:09Speaker 3: what I'm saying? But my main, stay away from the
- 8:12Speaker 3: sex game. Just stay away from the sex game. And
- 8:15Speaker 3: you're all right. You're all right.
- 8:16Speaker 1: What kind of sex games? You talking spin the bottle?
- 8:18Speaker 3: No.
- 8:19Speaker 1: And then shove the bottle?
- 8:21Speaker 3: That part. No, if you talk up on the people's clothes,
- 8:25Speaker 3: like you and your partner, you know, you come out
- 8:28Speaker 3: the street and you say something like, oh, dude, man,
- 8:31Speaker 3: you looking real good going down with that towel on
- 8:33Speaker 3: and stuff like that.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:35Speaker 3: You never know who listening. You never know who listening.
- 8:39Speaker 3: And all I close are not sleep. You know what
- 8:42Speaker 3: I'm saying?
- 8:42Speaker 1: I tell you what, you're never going to catch me
- 8:44Speaker 1: saying that.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, you know
- 8:47Speaker 3: what I'm saying? Like that's the, that's rule number one
- 8:49Speaker 3: for me. You know what I'm saying? Like even as
- 8:51Speaker 3: I hear in this, I don't do them little undercover
- 8:54Speaker 3: jokes and stuff like that. They get to talking. I like, man,
- 8:58Speaker 3: each his own, you know what I'm saying? I keep
- 8:59Speaker 3: on pushing it, you know, but though, um, it's don't
- 9:03Speaker 3: borrow money. Don't, Don't borrow money.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Then you're on the hook, and you owe someone, and
- 9:08Speaker 2: you never know what that turns to.
- 9:10Speaker 3: And candy stuff on the bed and stuff like that,
- 9:14Speaker 3: everybody get tried. I mean, people, they tried me. You
- 9:17Speaker 3: know what I'm saying?
- 9:18Speaker 2: Test you?
- 9:19Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Oh, yes.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Oh, yes. What, put candy on your bed to see
- 9:22Speaker 1: if you wanted to?
- 9:22Speaker 3: No, they tried me in a sense of... You know,
- 9:26Speaker 3: the bully tactic, you know what I'm saying?
- 9:29Speaker 2: See if you were going to back down or capitulate
- 9:31Speaker 2: to them. Yeah, uh-huh.
- 9:32Speaker 3: And you know what I'm saying? And I used to
- 9:34Speaker 3: tell them, I said, look, ma'am, there's a price that
- 9:37Speaker 3: you're going to pay. I may lose, but I'm definitely
- 9:40Speaker 3: going to send about three or four of y'all to
- 9:41Speaker 3: the infirmary. And I don't think one of y'all are
- 9:44Speaker 3: going to make it.
- 9:45Speaker 2: You had already acquired your boxing skills? Oh, yes.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Oh, yes. And the mindset was there, you know what
- 9:51Speaker 3: I'm saying? It ain't like... Like I've been, well you
- 9:55Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, my record, it speaks for itself.
- 9:58Speaker 3: I don't talk. When I get popped with anything, I
- 10:01Speaker 3: just sit down and wait for a sale or wait
- 10:03Speaker 3: for a bond. That's it. Even as a juvenile, I
- 10:06Speaker 3: just sit down and just wait. And just wait for
- 10:08Speaker 3: my mom or, you know what I'm saying? Just wait.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Our guest this week on Lynch & Taco's Off the
- 10:13Speaker 2: Air podcast, the one, the only, Paramore Brown, leader of
- 10:17Speaker 2: the J.R.R. Street team from the streets of Paramore.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Been a brother of ours for well over 20 years.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Literally. We mean that literally.
- 10:26Speaker 3: And that's the good part about it. I tell people,
- 10:28Speaker 3: I say, like, for me to come from where I was,
- 10:31Speaker 3: what I'm not ashamed of, to be around the people
- 10:34Speaker 3: that's here and not putting nobody on the pedestal, nobody
- 10:37Speaker 3: on the pedestal, but though, To be accepted in a
- 10:39Speaker 3: crowd and to be accepted in this right here, you
- 10:43Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, place, is awesome. It's freaking awesome.
- 10:46Speaker 3: You're a huge part of it. That's what it is.
- 10:49Speaker 3: But people on the streets, they see it now. And
- 10:51Speaker 3: they say, like, man, that car, man, I thought it
- 10:54Speaker 3: was crazy, man. Man, look at him, man. He going
- 10:57Speaker 3: this right here. Oh, he's out there. He doing this. Oh, man,
- 11:00Speaker 3: he's on the boat. He just hanging out, man. He's
- 11:03Speaker 3: doing Carl.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Carl is his real name. Carl or Paramore.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Yes.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Paramore always used to laugh because we're going back over
- 11:13Speaker 2: 20 years at this point. Always knew his name was Carl.
- 11:16Speaker 2: And when I'd see him after I hadn't seen him
- 11:18Speaker 2: for a while, I'd go, hey, Carl, what's up? He'd go,
- 11:20Speaker 2: I always forgot you knew that.
- 11:22Speaker 3: That's right.
- 11:22Speaker 2: That's right. You know? But anyway... The thing that I
- 11:28Speaker 2: think there will be no argument from you on, Taco,
- 11:31Speaker 2: is this guy is the definition of work ethic.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 11:37Speaker 2: It doesn't matter what gig it is you're doing. And
- 11:39Speaker 2: I'm not talking about working here at the radio station.
- 11:41Speaker 2: We saw this before you ever worked here with the
- 11:44Speaker 2: variety of jobs you've had. You've had some back-breaking jobs, man.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. And only because my wife,
- 11:54Speaker 3: she passed now, but still it's all good. But she
- 11:57Speaker 3: told me that I couldn't talk to her unless I
- 12:01Speaker 3: have a job. I couldn't sell drugs no more.
- 12:03Speaker 2: I said, what?
- 12:04Speaker 3: She said, yes, you want to talk to me? Can't
- 12:06Speaker 3: sell drugs no more. So I went.
- 12:09Speaker 2: So you're interested in this woman.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:11Speaker 2: And she knows about you and what you're all about.
- 12:14Speaker 2: And at the time you were peddling drugs.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:16Speaker 2: And she obviously was an attraction, but that part of
- 12:19Speaker 2: you she was not attracted to.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Yeah. And she said that that was the ultimate. You
- 12:23Speaker 3: know what I'm saying? Like either you stop saying that
- 12:25Speaker 3: or stop talking to me. I'm like, what? Okay. When
- 12:30Speaker 3: I told my brothers them, I said, look, I'm out.
- 12:33Speaker 3: They said, huh? I said, hey, y'all can have all
- 12:36Speaker 3: the drugs, but we're going to split this money now.
- 12:37Speaker 3: We're going to split the money. Oh, yeah. Yeah, we're
- 12:39Speaker 3: going to split the money now, but I'm out. Y'all
- 12:42Speaker 3: can have all the drugs. And they looked at me,
- 12:43Speaker 3: and at first they thought I was in. Like, oh, man,
- 12:46Speaker 3: he ain't going to leave all this. And sure enough,
- 12:48Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying? Like I said, look, I said,
- 12:51Speaker 3: I want a bunch of kids. I want a house.
- 12:54Speaker 3: and I want a place that I can come home
- 12:56Speaker 3: and have peace.
- 12:57Speaker 2: And you did all that? Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I got seven daughters, and yes, the peace part, y'all, ooh,
- 13:03Speaker 3: my chillings. Ooh, my chillings. But no, I love them.
- 13:06Speaker 3: I love them to death, you know what I'm saying?
- 13:08Speaker 2: But, Bob, could you imagine having seven daughters?
- 13:11Speaker 1: Oh, man. Dude, two is a handful.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Oh, dude, dude. Bob had fed my kids. I mean,
- 13:18Speaker 3: we was at Festival Bay over there by Tangelo Park.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. And we had pizzas.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Uh-huh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Bob had gave them like,
- 13:26Speaker 3: I mean, like I had them hand, they had them
- 13:29Speaker 3: did something. So, you know, I had them all holding hands,
- 13:31Speaker 3: all seven of them. They're all holding hands. They're walking
- 13:34Speaker 3: down the thing. And Bob seen us out there. And
- 13:36Speaker 3: Bob said, hey. I said, hey, what's up, man? He said, like, hey,
- 13:40Speaker 3: they hungry? I said, yeah, man, they stay hungry. So,
- 13:42Speaker 3: you know, he gave me about two boxes of pizza.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Which is great because then he didn't have to, like,
- 13:47Speaker 1: bring them into the mall and hit the food court
- 13:49Speaker 1: for seven kids.
- 13:50Speaker 2: No, uh-uh.
- 13:51Speaker 3: We were going to McDonald's.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Oh, boy. Yeah.
- 13:55Speaker 3: That's what they loved.
- 13:56Speaker 2: That was when it was still you could go with
- 13:59Speaker 2: a bunch of people and get some items that weren't
- 14:02Speaker 2: going to break the bank.
- 14:04Speaker 3: That part.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Somebody texted yesterday when he was doing his Diary of
- 14:08Speaker 1: a Black Man segment.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Which is on Wednesdays, by the way, at 920.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Yes, he said.
- 14:13Speaker 1: You can't have Life Coach and Paramore on the same day.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I'm having sensory overload. Because remember, he was digging into
- 14:22Speaker 1: Big Bruce, Bruce on the loose.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Yeah, we had a salesperson sitting in yesterday during his
- 14:27Speaker 2: segment who they, look, God love the salespeople, but they
- 14:31Speaker 2: don't spend a lot of time listening to the stations.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And they're too busy working.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Yeah. And they probably, a lot of them had no
- 14:38Speaker 2: idea there was even a segment called diary of a
- 14:40Speaker 2: black man. Cause when you, when you tell someone that
- 14:43Speaker 2: who hasn't heard, they're like, you know, cause it's, it's not,
- 14:46Speaker 2: it's 2026 and everybody's so touchy feely and sensitive, but
- 14:50Speaker 2: it's like that, that's the beauty of the segments because
- 14:54Speaker 2: Paramore gets it.
- 14:56Speaker 3: That's it. You know? And, and for, for, for the longest,
- 15:00Speaker 3: I mean like, you know, like, um, when I was
- 15:02Speaker 3: selling drugs, um, I didn't sell the white people. But
- 15:07Speaker 3: I would leave Paramore and go down to freaking Orange
- 15:10Speaker 3: Avenue or go to Lake Eola or go out there
- 15:13Speaker 3: to Confetti Junction or Circus Circus or the High Line.
- 15:19Speaker 3: And guess who didn't go? People that were making thousands
- 15:22Speaker 3: of dollars a day would not leave Paramore. They would
- 15:26Speaker 3: stay right there. And then when I get back, they'd
- 15:28Speaker 3: be saying like, hey, hey, man, um, um. What happened?
- 15:32Speaker 3: Where you been? You know, you got locked up, you know? No, man,
- 15:36Speaker 3: I went downtown. You went downtown?
- 15:38Speaker 2: I branched out.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm like, yeah, dude, yeah.
- 15:41Speaker 2: All right. Let's, we wanted to get to this here.
- 15:44Speaker 2: You have now made two trips to Vietnam.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Legally.
- 15:49Speaker 2: You went last year and you told us about it
- 15:52Speaker 2: and it was kind of a, It was like drinking
- 15:57Speaker 2: from a fire hose with you because the things you
- 15:59Speaker 2: had experienced and were trying to convey, it was a
- 16:01Speaker 2: lot coming down. Now you go back and you spent,
- 16:04Speaker 2: were you there about three weeks?
- 16:06Speaker 3: Yes, 24, 26 days, something like that.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Did you go by yourself this time? Yes, yes, yes.
- 16:12Speaker 2: I went by myself. Last time there was a couple
- 16:13Speaker 2: of you, right?
- 16:14Speaker 3: Yes, last time I went with my partner, and they
- 16:18Speaker 3: had flew over first and stuff, and they had all
- 16:21Speaker 3: my stuff, and they drunk my water. They drunk my
- 16:24Speaker 3: Zephyr Hill.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Yeah, he shipped over a whole bunch of water, so
- 16:27Speaker 1: he knew he had a clean water source.
- 16:28Speaker 2: And steaks and stuff, too, right?
- 16:30Speaker 3: Yeah, but they didn't mess with that, though. They didn't
- 16:33Speaker 3: mess with that. They just drunk the water.
- 16:36Speaker 2: So did you bother with shipping crap over there this time? No, sir.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Because you knew now that I can find what I
- 16:41Speaker 2: need once I get there.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Hello, hello.
- 16:43Speaker 3: And this is the beauty of it. People, if you
- 16:46Speaker 3: ever get a chance, The Philippines, Thailand, and Korea and China,
- 16:51Speaker 3: all that's good. But Vietnam is the bomb. Trust me
- 16:54Speaker 3: when I say that. Vietnam is the bomb. We didn't
- 16:56Speaker 3: drop a bomb on them. Sometimes I think we should have.
- 16:59Speaker 1: But anyway.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Haven't heard a peep out of Japan, have we?
- 17:04Speaker 1: Hello.
- 17:06Speaker 3: But them Jokers, they just got released from the British. So,
- 17:09Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying? Like they had a 200
- 17:11Speaker 3: year lease. I mean, colonization is alive and well sometimes.
- 17:17Speaker 1: So your first trip over there was kind of an
- 17:19Speaker 1: exploratory mission to get a feel for it. Then you're like, okay,
- 17:24Speaker 1: I got this. I feel comfortable now. I'm doing a
- 17:27Speaker 1: trip where I know places.
- 17:29Speaker 2: You went by yourself. Now, did you go to the
- 17:32Speaker 2: general area you were before and stay in the general
- 17:35Speaker 2: area where you were before, or you just went and
- 17:37Speaker 2: you didn't know a soul? No, no, I went.
- 17:39Speaker 3: I picked a certain spot, but I did get a
- 17:41Speaker 3: toe guide. I always get you a toe guide. Get
- 17:43Speaker 3: you a toe guide and get the app Grabber. Grabber
- 17:47Speaker 3: will keep you straight, and you won't be– If you
- 17:50Speaker 3: don't ask the price up front.
- 17:52Speaker 2: You're going to get fleeced.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Yeah, uh-huh.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:55Speaker 3: But you know what I'm saying? But Grabber is great.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Grabber is like they got their stuff down and they
- 18:01Speaker 3: all over the country.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Is Grabber like an app? A travel app, right?
- 18:06Speaker 3: Yes, yes, yes.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I didn't know.
- 18:07Speaker 3: I just did for the listeners. And it's 100%. You
- 18:10Speaker 3: know what I'm saying? Like the green caps. They got
- 18:12Speaker 3: green caps on and they got the scooters. Oh, my.
- 18:15Speaker 2: So what did you spend 20 something days doing?
- 18:18Speaker 3: Okay. All right. Um, I was looking for cubicles. Um,
- 18:21Speaker 3: I was trying to do the entrepreneur thing about buying some, uh,
- 18:25Speaker 3: cubicles and, um, get like about six of them, uh, uh,
- 18:29Speaker 3: 12 or.
- 18:30Speaker 2: At a market or something.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Yes, sir. No, at a, uh, at a,
- 18:33Speaker 3: at a builder supply. See, like, um, they build them
- 18:36Speaker 3: in China and China is just way too hard with
- 18:40Speaker 3: day restrictions and stuff like that right there. And plus, um,
- 18:44Speaker 3: Our chief and leader, Trump, have put tariffs, whatever they
- 18:49Speaker 3: call that thing, strictly on China, heavy. And Taiwan and
- 18:56Speaker 3: what's the other one? They got the same thing, you
- 18:59Speaker 3: know what I'm saying? But in Vietnam, it's cheaper and
- 19:02Speaker 3: they materialize.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Okay, so cubicles, I'm not.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Cubicles are two bedrooms and two baths, like apartments.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Oh, living spaces.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. They're like modular homes.
- 19:14Speaker 3: But they're cheaper in Vietnam.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Is it almost like a shipping crate home?
- 19:19Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Because I have friends that build those.
- 19:21Speaker 2: And you want to do this with the goal of, like,
- 19:24Speaker 2: operating them? Yes.
- 19:25Speaker 3: No, no, no. I want to do it with the
- 19:26Speaker 3: goal of going to 4C, you know, and have them
- 19:31Speaker 3: put low-income families in.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Oh, so it's a humanitarian move on your part. You're
- 19:36Speaker 2: not trying to make money off of this? No, no.
- 19:39Speaker 3: I want to make it be eventually, you know what
- 19:41Speaker 3: I'm saying, because that's what we are about money, people.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Never forget, America is about money. But if you can
- 19:47Speaker 3: get like six of them and you can... you understand, because, like,
- 19:52Speaker 3: the average rent around here is, like, 24, I mean, like, it's, like,
- 19:56Speaker 3: from $ 20 to $ 2, 400 for a freaking two-bedroom.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. So, you know what I'm saying? Like, if
- 20:01Speaker 3: I can put it in there for, $ 1, 800, you know
- 20:04Speaker 3: what I'm saying, for a family that's, you know what
- 20:06Speaker 3: I'm saying, that's struggling, really struggling.
- 20:09Speaker 2: So you want to buy these supplies over there and
- 20:12Speaker 2: get them here? And ship them here. And I see
- 20:15Speaker 2: and create low-income housing locally.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Yes.
- 20:20Speaker 1: That's pretty cool.
- 20:21Speaker 2: That's way cool.
- 20:22Speaker 1: It's reputable as hell. Look, this is my friend's... their home.
- 20:27Speaker 1: They don't live in it. See that, Pat? With the
- 20:31Speaker 1: shipping containers.
- 20:34Speaker 3: They stack them on top of each other.
- 20:35Speaker 1: You know who it is, actually. It was our friends
- 20:38Speaker 1: from Rockville.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Really good looking girl and her husband.
- 20:43Speaker 2: How much do those things cost?
- 20:45Speaker 3: Over there, they're like $ 3, 200.
- 20:48Speaker 2: For a single retired shipping container?
- 20:51Speaker 3: Yes, sir. But they'll see like... My daughter works in
- 20:55Speaker 3: the military.
- 20:56Speaker 2: You just have to paint over where it says Maersk.
- 20:58Speaker 3: No, uh-uh, no, no, no, no, uh-uh, no, no.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Isn't that the big one? No, uh-uh.
- 21:03Speaker 3: You can leave them as is and have them shipped over,
- 21:07Speaker 3: but the military don't see, you know what I'm saying? Like,
- 21:10Speaker 3: I was going to do the military route, you know,
- 21:12Speaker 3: and then I ain't got to pay no kind of
- 21:14Speaker 3: tourist or nothing. The only thing I can do is
- 21:15Speaker 3: just fly it over. But if I get it dropped
- 21:17Speaker 3: off at California, it's going to cost me an arm
- 21:20Speaker 3: and a leg.
- 21:20Speaker 2: To ship it across the country.
- 21:22Speaker 3: To drive it, you know what I'm saying, a truck,
- 21:24Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, across the country. But if
- 21:26Speaker 3: I get it to corporate Christmas or Shreveport, you know
- 21:28Speaker 3: what I'm saying, like, Boom, I can get, track the
- 21:31Speaker 3: trailer from here and pay them like, you know what
- 21:33Speaker 3: I'm saying, like five grand and they can make.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Driver just go fetch it for you.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Boom, yeah, yes, sir.
- 21:38Speaker 1: You could make your own little, with the low income housing,
- 21:42Speaker 1: you could make it your own town like Paramore Browntown.
- 21:45Speaker 3: No, we've seen this history of that. Oh, man. You
- 21:50Speaker 3: white people get kind of hurt.
- 21:51Speaker 2: They get kind of mad. What was the title of
- 21:53Speaker 2: the town again?
- 21:54Speaker 1: It was just like Guy Fieri has Flavortown. You have
- 21:57Speaker 1: Paramore Browntown.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Yeah, Paramore Browntown.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I'm not saying brown people. That's your name. No, no.
- 22:02Speaker 3: I ain't saying that right there. But I'm talking about
- 22:04Speaker 3: like Wall Street. I'm talking about like Rosewood. I'm talking
- 22:07Speaker 3: about like in Philly. They get mad when you start
- 22:10Speaker 3: building stuff up and start flourishing. And then they come
- 22:13Speaker 3: along and destroy it. I mean, like, they drop bums
- 22:16Speaker 3: and everything.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Can I give you a little tip?
- 22:18Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 22:18Speaker 1: If you're getting all these containers, getting them shipped over,
- 22:21Speaker 1: and then hauling them, okay, why don't you fill them
- 22:25Speaker 1: with something?
- 22:26Speaker 2: No.
- 22:27Speaker 1: That you could sell.
- 22:28Speaker 2: No.
- 22:28Speaker 1: And then, oh, they're already made up as houses?
- 22:30Speaker 2: Yeah, uh-huh, yeah, yeah.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Oh, I thought you were going to build up and
- 22:33Speaker 1: do all the construction.
- 22:34Speaker 3: No, no, no. Containers? Yeah. What you were talking about? Yeah,
- 22:39Speaker 3: they got to be– doors got to be cut out.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Windows got to be cut out. They got to be
- 22:43Speaker 3: framed up. They got to be insulated. And then they
- 22:46Speaker 3: have to be– Now.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Would you plan to do all that here or have
- 22:48Speaker 2: that done there, fabricated there?
- 22:50Speaker 3: No, sir. It's already fabricated. Oh, okay. It's already fabricated.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Everything, everything. It's just get them here.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Yes, sir.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Uh-huh. Yeah, yeah. I can do a slab. I mean, like,
- 22:58Speaker 3: that's what I did. I do concrete work. Yeah. So
- 23:01Speaker 3: I can do a slab and do the plumbing and
- 23:03Speaker 3: bring it out to the road. You know what I'm saying?
- 23:05Speaker 3: Then the city picks it up. or the county picks
- 23:07Speaker 3: it up. It's not dig a well.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Have you got with anybody from a municipality to pitch
- 23:12Speaker 2: this idea?
- 23:13Speaker 3: I've been trying to talk with 4C, and I tried
- 23:17Speaker 3: to talk to Mustard C, because Mustard C and the
- 23:22Speaker 3: HUD program, they want to see how serious you is.
- 23:27Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? First, they want to see
- 23:29Speaker 3: the bank statements. They want to see if you applied
- 23:31Speaker 3: for a business loan. They want to see your LLC.
- 23:33Speaker 3: They want to see... Make sure you're legit. Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
- 23:37Speaker 3: And then you have to go through the process of
- 23:39Speaker 3: bid war with some people from freaking up north that you.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Contracts, open bid for contracts. I got you.
- 23:48Speaker 3: It's a lot of red tape. Which is a shame.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Well, I mean, there's two sides to that.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know what I'm saying? With me, I
- 23:59Speaker 3: come from Paramore. I've seen people living in tents. I've
- 24:03Speaker 3: seen kids going to school with an address from the
- 24:06Speaker 3: corner of a freaking yard. I mean, there's like 50
- 24:10Speaker 3: or 60 tents in this yard, and these kids are
- 24:12Speaker 3: going to school.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Well, they were talking on the news the other day
- 24:15Speaker 2: about the number of homeless students in the Orange County
- 24:18Speaker 2: school system. Yeah. How does that work? A lot of
- 24:23Speaker 2: them are living in cars. Yeah.
- 24:26Speaker 3: And a lot of people, I don't know if we
- 24:29Speaker 3: just look over it or we just don't pay attention
- 24:32Speaker 3: to it, but it's happening. It's happening. And I know
- 24:35Speaker 3: if it's happening in the hood, it's happening everywhere.
- 24:37Speaker 2: But this is obviously a solution, a viable one, if
- 24:44Speaker 2: you can get the right people to listen, man.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Hopefully, y'all are. Scratch that mark about Oklahoma and all
- 24:51Speaker 3: that stuff. You know what I'm saying? But back to Vietnam.
- 24:57Speaker 2: So this trip more or less was to explore more? Yes, sir.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 25:03Speaker 2: All right.
- 25:04Speaker 3: But another segment, if y'all have me back, if I
- 25:07Speaker 3: still have a job.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Of course you do.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Come on. You know what I'm saying? I can talk
- 25:11Speaker 3: more about the trip. and what happened at certain points
- 25:17Speaker 3: of the trip.
- 25:17Speaker 1: That's what I thought today was going to be.
- 25:20Speaker 2: We had no idea about any of this. It's fascinating.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Yes, sir. But what's also fascinating is they have like
- 25:27Speaker 3: four districts of freaking oysters. That's all they grow is
- 25:32Speaker 3: freaking oysters. I mean, harvest. That's all they harvest is
- 25:36Speaker 3: freaking oysters.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Do you know they just got a whole bunch in
- 25:37Speaker 2: from Australia? No.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Trust me. Trust me. Australia oysters wouldn't stand a chance. Today,
- 25:45Speaker 3: five by ten, five miles by ten miles are nothing
- 25:49Speaker 3: but freaking oysters. Four districts.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Do you like oysters? You like them?
- 25:54Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 25:55Speaker 2: That's a love-hate thing for most people.
- 25:56Speaker 3: No, I ain't got nothing to do with them.
- 25:58Speaker 2: You'll slurp them?
- 25:59Speaker 3: Who? Slurp them? That's as good? I like them fried. Rockefeller,
- 26:04Speaker 3: but you put that little dried shrimp in there and
- 26:06Speaker 3: some bacon in there and some of that cheese.
- 26:09Speaker 1: No, I used to make oyster Rockefeller at a restaurant.
- 26:11Speaker 3: See what I'm saying? See what I'm saying?
- 26:13Speaker 1: Ice cream, spinach on top.
- 26:15Speaker 3: There you go. Oh, my God. I mean, but no,
- 26:19Speaker 3: I have seen a four and five pound frog. Not
- 26:27Speaker 3: one or two, but like.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Like mutant frogs? Yeah, they grow frogs. To us, anyway.
- 26:33Speaker 3: They harvest frogs, too.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Do they rib it like dogs when they hear their ribbit?
- 26:38Speaker 1: They're croaking?
- 26:39Speaker 3: No, they sound like gators. Yeah, they sound like gators.
- 26:42Speaker 2: They eat them frog legs off those big sumbitches?
- 26:44Speaker 3: Man, I do, but they eat the whole frog. They
- 26:47Speaker 3: ain't got no shame in that game.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I don't know if I could go beyond the frog legs.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Frog legs are great, man.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Frog legs about this long.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Probably look like a chicken leg.
- 26:59Speaker 3: I said, man, like, when I first ate a frog leg,
- 27:02Speaker 3: I was in Vero Beach, and they had these long,
- 27:05Speaker 3: I said, man, it's a long-legged chicken. And everybody started laughing.
- 27:08Speaker 3: I started eating the chicken. I'm like, they got some
- 27:10Speaker 3: funny bones in here. And everybody just started laughing. And
- 27:13Speaker 3: then my grandma said, baby, them frog legs.
- 27:17Speaker 2: It's always grandma who turns you on to the frog legs.
- 27:19Speaker 2: My grandmother turned me on to them. Oh, my God.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Little garlic and butter.
- 27:24Speaker 3: See what I'm saying? Like, we only had barbecue sauce
- 27:27Speaker 3: and Miracle Whip. Yeah. Black folks love Miracle Whip. Restaurants,
- 27:32Speaker 3: key in there.
- 27:32Speaker 2: I like Miracle Whip.
- 27:33Speaker 3: See?
- 27:34Speaker 2: But only on certain. Bologna sandwich, got to be Miracle Whip.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Really? Yes.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Yes.
- 27:40Speaker 2: It just gives a whole different vibe on a bologna sandwich.
- 27:44Speaker 3: I mean, man.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Oh, I think I had it when we were at Rockville.
- 27:47Speaker 3: Hello. Yeah. You know what I'm saying?
- 27:49Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I'll give you the other one. It'll make
- 27:50Speaker 2: you sick because I know you don't like it. Liver? Liverwurst.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Liverwurst sandwich, Miracle Whip. And mustard, and mustard.
- 27:59Speaker 3: With the onion strip around it. You know what I'm saying?
- 28:02Speaker 3: That right there was black man food. I mean, man,
- 28:05Speaker 3: you come home about 2.30 in the morning, and you
- 28:09Speaker 3: got you one long joint left, and you got some
- 28:11Speaker 3: baked beans and got up them sauces, and you put
- 28:14Speaker 3: that brown sugar in there, and you just sit back
- 28:16Speaker 3: and let it rip, and then you fire up some
- 28:17Speaker 3: Pink Floyd or some Led Zeppelin to sit back in
- 28:20Speaker 3: the chair and just take about three or four hits
- 28:23Speaker 3: before you know it. Beans are ready.
- 28:26Speaker 2: I think that might be a good place to leave
- 28:28Speaker 2: it this week.
- 28:29Speaker 1: So we'll have him back in, though, to get the
- 28:31Speaker 1: whole Vietnam.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Yeah, a couple weeks. Let's go back to get the
- 28:35Speaker 2: rest of the story on that. In the meantime, if
- 28:38Speaker 2: you've never met Paramore Brown, you have a chance to
- 28:40Speaker 2: on Friday evening. You're going to be with us at
- 28:42Speaker 2: Fish Lips at Port Canaveral.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Sitting back, watching the festival, whatever that word is.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Festivities.
- 28:49Speaker 3: There you go.
- 28:49Speaker 2: It's a good way to start your weekend, man. Hello.
- 28:52Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? Like, hey, and don't forget,
- 28:54Speaker 3: there's a trip coming up, too. They call it the what, Taco?
- 28:57Speaker 2: Offshore Fiasco, man.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Offshore Fiasco. It's sold out, but we're giving away a
- 29:01Speaker 1: couple spaces at Fish Lips Friday night, starting at 6.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Hello, and... I have nothing to do with that part.
- 29:08Speaker 3: It's all going to be on Taco and Pat Lynch. Hello.
- 29:10Speaker 1: We keep it even for everybody. It's absolutely free.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Anybody who wants to get involved, we'll give you a ticket,
- 29:16Speaker 2: and we'll just draw it at random.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Boom shakalaka. All right.
- 29:19Speaker 2: So that'll do it for this week's Off the Air podcast.
- 29:23Speaker 2: It went in a completely... unanticipated direction.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Which is what the Off the Air podcast is all about.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Hello.
- 29:31Speaker 2: We never know what's going to pop out of your
- 29:33Speaker 2: mouth when you start talking, Paramore.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Hey, sometimes in life, you just got to do what
- 29:37Speaker 3: you got to do. But y'all give me easy questions.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Y'all give me easy stuff, and I just can roll
- 29:43Speaker 3: with it because, like, what else?
- 29:45Speaker 1: That's what brothers do. We're like family. Hey, you got
- 29:48Speaker 1: to do me one favor. If you do invent Paramore Browntown,
- 29:52Speaker 1: can you put a 69 in the zip code?
- 29:55Speaker 2: I don't think he picks the zip code.
- 29:58Speaker 3: No, but you know what I'm saying? Because, yes, I can.
- 30:02Speaker 2: All right, everybody, have a great day. Thanks for checking
- 30:05Speaker 2: out Off the Air.
- 30:06Speaker 3: 69 Circle Bob time.
