SPEAKER_13: And this is the fourth one, if I'm not mistaken.
• 4:14
SPEAKER_13: I was trying to do the math, but I, you know, I actually put up the third original, and I'm like, I'm looking at my bottle of old elk and it says 2022, and I'm like, two plus four, uh, you know, two, two plus four equals, you know, we get we're in 2025, but the 2022 counts.
• 4:34
SPEAKER_13: So it was actually, so it works.
• 4:36
  SPEAKER_13: 22 and 2, we're in the fourth one.

• 5:46
  SPEAKER_13: But, anyways, thanks everybody.
• 5:48
SPEAKER_13: Uh this is our single barrel Saturday 2025 um podcast.
• 5:55
SPEAKER_13: Uh, and and it's so I I think this is the first time I think we've actually done one specifically for the single barrel release.
• 6:04
  SPEAKER_13: Uh I right?
• 6:05
  SPEAKER_13: I'm am I right, Ann?
• 6:06
SPEAKER_13: I mean you've been on other things, but not not for this.
• 6:10
SPEAKER_06: I'd have done it, but I wasn't part of it.
• 6:12
SPEAKER_06: So this is my first Scotchy Bourbon Boys Single Barrel Saturday EV.
• 6:17
SPEAKER_13: Now, do you really think we would do a podcast on Single Barrel Saturday without you?
• 6:25
  SPEAKER_06: You know.
• 6:27
SPEAKER_06: There's a lot of chatter about Single Barrel Saturday.
• 6:31
SPEAKER_06: But yeah, it's our biggest event of the year.
• 6:34
SPEAKER_06: It is like Christmas for bourbon people.
• 6:38
SPEAKER_06: Um, we were talking before we came on here about half the fun is the waiting in line and the social part of it.
• 6:45
SPEAKER_06: And the uh people were texting pictures last year from Youngstown, and they were tailgating the night before at a place they hoped was a location.
• 6:56
SPEAKER_06: It's it's as much a huge social event, it's not just about chasing bottles.
• 7:01
SPEAKER_06: The bottles are fun and it's what brings everyone out, but it's just bourbon community comes out for this day.
• 7:10
SPEAKER_13: And uh I mean it's so let's let's I think going forward, I think that we actually should get together on this and figure out if this is one of the biggest drops there is like and then maybe like next year get the Guinness Book of Worlds record involved, and if it's you know, and how many barrels drop across at once across a state as far as single barrels and bottles.
• 7:46
SPEAKER_13: And you know, I I think that would be really cool.
• 7:49
SPEAKER_13: I was watching a show on the Guinness Book of Worlds Record on, I think it was on 60 Minutes last week, and there he was just talking about how he gets the people together, they're there, and you have to have this many different things.
• 7:59
SPEAKER_13: But when you're talking about a state, I mean I throughout history, I don't even think anybody does anything like this, do they?
• 8:08
SPEAKER_06: Well, Ohio is unique because we are the fourth largest American whiskey market in the country behind California, Texas, and Florida.
• 8:20
SPEAKER_06: So you think about population, you think about tourism, you think about the e-commerce that goes out of Florida and California, so that counts for those markets.
• 8:29
SPEAKER_06: And then next up is Ohio.
• 8:32
SPEAKER_06: So we have this like hugely passionate, and we're not the fourth largest state, we're the seventh by population.
• 8:39
SPEAKER_06: So this hugely passionate crowd, and it's hard to know how many single barrels other retailers buy, but if we're not the largest buyer of single barrels, we're we're up there in the top few.
• 8:54
SPEAKER_06: But the reason why we get so many great single barrels is because we have so many bourbon fans.
• 9:00
SPEAKER_06: And it's also when brands, you know, brand ambassadors and master distillers come to Ohio, they're always saying, I can't believe the level of questions I get from people here.
• 9:10
SPEAKER_06: The the knowledge base of the average bourbon fan in Ohio is very, very high, much higher than what you see in other markets.
• 9:20
  SPEAKER_06: So, you know.
• 9:22
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, and um so like it's even crazier when you think about it.
• 9:27
SPEAKER_13: It's Ohio, but Kentucky, how how is you know, you would think Kentucky would be there in one of the up there, but what I could say is is the difference between the bourbon market here in Ohio is the people that are are buying and chasing the bottles, we're not talking about professionals.
• 10:38
SPEAKER_13: And and there's the level of um, let's just say, which everybody, but that secondary market, it it the people in those lines, there's not what it is in in Kentucky that's like a professional, like like if you're there's there's people who are waiting in line that are waiting in line because they know if they get when they get the bottle, they can take it back and they get they get whatever to wait in line so that you know that it's like a professional thing.
• 11:06
SPEAKER_13: You meet the people, they're local and they're standing in line, and they're not in, they don't care about getting the whiskey for having the whiskey.
• 11:14
SPEAKER_13: But when you're in line in Ohio, it's the majority of the people are in that for the whiskey and the bourbon.
• 11:23
SPEAKER_13: You know, that's what you could tell the difference for.
• 11:28
SPEAKER_00: And drinking bottles, meeting other people and sharing it with the people in line.
• 11:31
SPEAKER_00: Like it's just fun to meet new friends and hear it's like one of the best days of the year.
• 11:35
  SPEAKER_00: Like, it's so fun.
• 11:37
  SPEAKER_06: It is so social.
• 11:38
SPEAKER_06: And I've never actually waited in a line in Kentucky, so I'm not sure what they're like.
• 11:43
SPEAKER_06: But the Ohio lines are that's half the fun.
• 11:47
SPEAKER_13: I think there's there's fun in Kentucky, don't get me wrong, but you but there's a level of people who are doing it that you meet that are there and you they're just like, I'm here to get the bottle.
• 12:00
  SPEAKER_13: That's it.
• 12:00
SPEAKER_13: I'm not here to get the bottle to drink it or to share it or whatever.
• 12:04
SPEAKER_13: They're here for the bottle for that that reason.
• 12:07
SPEAKER_13: And they're they're just way more prof what would you say?
• 12:10
  SPEAKER_13: They're they're it's just a much more professional thing.
• 12:13
SPEAKER_13: And even some of the like in when you when I'm in, I've I've had um a lot of times the the the collectors, because they live in Frankfurt and there's so many distilleries, their collections, it's almost like they're professional collectors.
• 12:29
SPEAKER_13: Whereas I know a lot of people, I know that exists here in Ohio, but usually I don't run into them in line or or run into them here in Ohio, whereas I'm always running into you know that the people who are getting the bottles to get the bottles, you know.
• 12:47
SPEAKER_13: And we got CT joining us.
• 12:49
  SPEAKER_13: Hey, CT.
• 12:50
SPEAKER_13: Trying to figure out what the hell my camera keeps doing.
• 12:53
SPEAKER_13: It's doing that that autofocus thing.
• 12:56
  SPEAKER_11: It's a new feature.
• 13:02
SPEAKER_13: Oh yeah, that should be good all night.
• 13:05
SPEAKER_13: I'm looking forward to that.
• 13:06
  SPEAKER_13: Zoom in, zoom out.
• 13:08
  SPEAKER_13: Don't move.
• 13:08
  SPEAKER_13: It's zoomed in.
• 13:11
SPEAKER_09: Literally, like, that's the dumbest thing ever.
• 13:13
SPEAKER_09: What the hell is that?
• 13:14
  SPEAKER_13: Is that on?
• 13:14
SPEAKER_13: Do you got an iPhone?
• 13:15
SPEAKER_13: Did you get the iPhone 17?
• 13:18
  SPEAKER_13: What?
• 13:20
  SPEAKER_09: No, yeah, yeah.
• 13:23
  SPEAKER_13: I'm getting it.
• 13:24
  SPEAKER_13: Mine's mine's coming any day.
• 13:26
  SPEAKER_13: I can't wait.
• 13:27
SPEAKER_13: It's supposed to be though.
• 13:28
SPEAKER_13: I would have to say, if that's an iPhone 17, the quality of it's really up there.
• 13:34
SPEAKER_09: I mean, literally, I feel like it's no different from any other iPhone I've had.
• 13:38
SPEAKER_13: It's no, I'm looking at the quality of what your your studio is and what it's picking up, and how I can see the the writing on the the bottles.
• 13:47
  SPEAKER_13: It's it's detailed.
• 13:49
  SPEAKER_13: Nice.
• 13:52
SPEAKER_13: It zooms back in or out, and then oh, it hasn't done it, it hasn't done it since.
• 13:56
SPEAKER_13: I mean, it's staying where it's supposed to stay.
• 13:58
SPEAKER_13: I was just giving you I think you can you, but you now's not the time to figure it out, right?
• 14:05
SPEAKER_09: I got my willet bottle just for the single barrel Saturday, the Willet bottle, the only Willet bottle I have.
• 14:12
  SPEAKER_13: Nice.
• 14:14
  SPEAKER_13: That's pot still.
• 14:16
SPEAKER_13: I've got lots of Willet.
• 14:17
  SPEAKER_13: I mean, I got Pot still, I got Noah's Mill, I got you know Rowan's Creek.
• 14:22
SPEAKER_13: I mean, I we got I it's like they make a uh what is it, pure Kentucky too, I think.
• 14:28
  SPEAKER_13: I've had I had that too.
• 14:30
SPEAKER_13: But uh Ann, the the bottles that are released that you guys have gone through and released.
• 14:36
  SPEAKER_13: I mean, I'm excited.
• 14:38
SPEAKER_13: Uh you've you've pretty much got it covered, but talk about today's announcement and uh so one of the things where what people what you not all that not every store can get every pick.
• 14:57
SPEAKER_13: So some stores get picks, and then so if there's chasing to be done, that's when you basically in the morning, and and so that's the true website.
• 15:10
  SPEAKER_13: What would you say?
• 15:11
SPEAKER_13: Um, if you're looking for something specific or a specific barrel, that's where you use the the the app in the website, correct?
• 15:19
SPEAKER_06: Well, you can't look for a specific barrel because everything of the same, you basically the same UPC barcode is going to show up on that map.
• 15:30
SPEAKER_06: So every uh for example, four roses single barrel is going to be a dot on the map.
• 15:37
SPEAKER_06: You don't necessarily know which barrel they have until you get there.
• 15:41
SPEAKER_06: So it's sort of look at the pull from the warehouse.
• 15:44
SPEAKER_13: So there's an aspect of lottery happening here.
• 15:48
  SPEAKER_06: A bit.
• 15:49
SPEAKER_06: Now, Willet is a unique one because they listed each barrel as its own item code.
• 15:56
SPEAKER_06: So you truly can find a specific barrel.
• 16:00
SPEAKER_06: Each barrel has its own separate UPC.
• 16:04
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 16:05
SPEAKER_13: Because um, I forget what what the release was this past.
• 16:09
SPEAKER_13: Um I actually for the first time did switch lines.
• 16:14
SPEAKER_13: I was in line and I got there, and uh it was the rye version of what I was looking for.
• 16:23
SPEAKER_13: I believe it was I forget which, but I was able to then use the at seven o'clock, use the OHLQ locator and then call a guy that was in line over there and was able to get there for the bourbon.
• 16:39
SPEAKER_13: So I mean, that's one thing that that's very unique to Ohio.
• 16:44
SPEAKER_13: Uh and you can understand, there's a massive drop.
• 16:47
SPEAKER_13: Each, you know, there's how many liquor stores participating?
• 16:52
  SPEAKER_06: Are more than 300.
• 16:55
  SPEAKER_13: More than 300.
• 16:57
SPEAKER_13: And so when you're talking about uh so let's just take, for instance, the Willet 11-year um bourbon, family reserved bourbon.
• 17:07
SPEAKER_13: When you think about it, it's like there's not 200, even 200 bottles in there.
• 17:13
SPEAKER_13: So, I mean, that 11 years, you're probably talking, you know, 130, 140, right around there, maybe.
• 17:21
SPEAKER_13: But at the same time, there's a couple, you know, so hopefully we're at the place that gets lucky.
• 17:28
SPEAKER_13: Um, how how do you go about that?
• 17:31
  SPEAKER_13: Is that just random?
• 17:32
SPEAKER_13: Is do you have a randomizer?
• 17:36
SPEAKER_06: So, how do the store allocation lists get made?
• 17:40
  SPEAKER_06: Is what you're asking.
• 17:42
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 17:42
SPEAKER_06: Well, back up to be part of Single Barrel Saturday, the stores all got an opportunity at one time.
• 17:48
SPEAKER_06: They got this massive survey, and they were asked, what sorts of things would you like to host?
• 17:54
SPEAKER_06: Would you like to do regular barrel releases, the ones where they just come and you put them out for sale when they arrive?
• 18:01
SPEAKER_06: Would you like to host events, master distiller tastings, bottle signings, all that kind of stuff?
• 18:07
SPEAKER_06: And single barrel Saturday was part of that.
• 18:09
SPEAKER_06: Do you want to have in-store raffles?
• 18:11
SPEAKER_06: All of it was in this one big thing.
• 18:13
SPEAKER_06: So then they all opted in.
• 18:15
SPEAKER_06: Once they opt in, if they're compliant, there's no issues, um, they attended a one-hour training and then they filled out an email afterwards like a bend to training.
• 18:27
SPEAKER_06: I understand what I need to do.
• 18:29
SPEAKER_06: Don't sell the bottles ahead of time, don't tell everyone I'm a single barrel Saturday store, all of that.
• 18:36
SPEAKER_06: And so then that's how they become a single barrel Saturday location, which this year is the most we've ever had, more than 300.
• 18:45
SPEAKER_06: So then once we have all of the locations, at the same time, we're also throughout the year, we're selecting barrels.
• 18:52
SPEAKER_06: And generally, uh suppliers, you know, will say, What type of release would you like to do?
• 18:56
SPEAKER_06: Do you want to have where we announce it on Monday and ship it out?
• 19:00
SPEAKER_06: Do you want to have your master distiller come to town?
• 19:02
SPEAKER_06: You know, or do you want to be part of single barrel Saturday?
• 19:05
SPEAKER_06: So a lot of these brands at the point where we selected the barrels, we're saying, we want to be a single barrel Saturday release.
• 19:14
SPEAKER_06: And so we sort of curated as the year goes, they had to have their barrels in the warehouse by September.
• 19:20
SPEAKER_06: So we kind of bring both those things together: total barrels, total stores, and then we start going through.
• 19:26
SPEAKER_06: And so you'll see patterns.
• 19:28
SPEAKER_06: If a store got the bourbon of a certain product, it probably didn't get the rye.
• 19:34
SPEAKER_06: But the one down the street got the rye, but not the bourbon.
• 19:38
SPEAKER_06: And so we try to make it different so that basically out of all these different stores, there's a completely different selection.
• 19:48
SPEAKER_06: You're not gonna find any one store that has the same selection.
• 19:53
SPEAKER_06: And there aren't going to be 18 cases of something at a given store.
• 19:58
SPEAKER_06: It's gonna be a lot of they got a case of this and this and this and this, so a really nice selection.
• 20:05
SPEAKER_06: And then where you are in line, you know, when your time's up, you get to pick.
• 20:10
SPEAKER_13: And and unlike any other, yes, there's certain certain ones that everybody's looking for, but then again, there's you know, like, but you then let's just talk about what you add in.
• 20:25
SPEAKER_13: There's always the happy, what I call um make everybody fantastically happy on single barrel Saturday add-in, where you have a special release that happens, but that release there in the past three years, um, that has been fantastic with a lot.
• 20:53
SPEAKER_13: So it's funny how the mix mix happens.
• 20:56
SPEAKER_13: You might have last year, for instance, it was full uh weller foolproof.
• 21:00
SPEAKER_13: And I think Wild Turkey Eight Year.
• 21:03
  SPEAKER_13: What?
• 21:04
SPEAKER_06: It was the initial release of Wild Turkey Eight Year at the same time, right?
• 21:08
SPEAKER_13: And that, yeah, so you had you had so so you have a couple releases that if somebody doesn't understand, you know, they're they're not there just for the single barrels because they're you know, after it's over, there are single barrels that still are there and you can pick up or different barrels or whatever, because but at the same time, there were so many people that were happy.
• 21:28
SPEAKER_13: People that showed up at 7:30 in the morning, you know, they got a Weller foolproof or the wild turkey eight, you know, they were able to get something and they didn't have to spend the night.
• 21:42
SPEAKER_13: You know, yeah, you have the Willet purple top, which people are gonna go crazy for.
• 21:47
SPEAKER_13: So that's the one that you're hoping your store wins the lottery and you're early enough in line.
• 21:53
SPEAKER_13: But there's other, there's so many other single barrels.
• 21:57
SPEAKER_13: So talk about like when you're going through the line, um, most places allow you only to purchase out of all the stuff one, right?
• 22:08
SPEAKER_13: And going through the line, and then you got to come back through again, and you know, as you go forward, because this way it's fair to everybody.
• 22:18
SPEAKER_13: So talk about how that works.
• 22:21
SPEAKER_06: Because otherwise, the first person could just clear out everything.
• 22:25
  SPEAKER_06: That's not fun.
• 22:26
SPEAKER_06: Um, most stores do let you loop.
• 22:30
SPEAKER_06: Um, I haven't heard about many stores that don't.
• 22:33
SPEAKER_06: Usually the there's enough people there where you know you loop through and then you can loop through again, that sort of thing.
• 22:40
SPEAKER_06: Um, but it's up to the discretion of the stores.
• 22:42
SPEAKER_06: But that's that's what makes it fun.
• 22:44
SPEAKER_06: And you mentioned the Willet, but we had Willet, was it two years ago, I think?
• 22:50
SPEAKER_06: Maybe I I don't think it was last year.
• 22:52
SPEAKER_06: And I had a friend who is a huge Willet fan, and he's like, I'm number, you know, whatever in line.
• 22:59
SPEAKER_06: I don't think it's gonna survive to get to me.
• 23:01
  SPEAKER_06: And it did, yeah.
• 23:03
SPEAKER_06: Well, it's not people are there for different things, yes, and it's not a cheap bottle.
• 23:08
SPEAKER_13: So that's so you're talking about uh there's an expense with really, really good cheap bottles.
• 23:17
SPEAKER_13: I mean, Buffalo Trace products, if it uh uh most of the country doesn't realize that not on secondary in an MSRP situation is one of the most reasonably priced whiskeys or bourbons on the market.
• 23:32
SPEAKER_13: I mean, you know, you're not talking, you know, hundreds of dollars or whatever for, I mean, when you're talking Taylor or stag, you're in the 60s, you know, and it used to be even then, you know, whatever, 50s, but you know, even uh 15-year Pappy Van Winkels, not not what it is on secondary.
• 23:53
SPEAKER_13: And so those are the great things about going through these lines is that you're gonna get what you, you know, you're gonna get what you want, and then the scavenger hunt happens, right?
• 24:05
SPEAKER_13: Because if you want if you find out where the other places are, and if you might not put the different barrels, but people will talk and you'll be able to find out where the different barrels are.
• 24:19
  SPEAKER_09: Right.
• 24:20
SPEAKER_09: That's kind of the fun of it too, as the day is going on and people are in line and they start getting bottles, is they start talking about those kind of those gems, those those ones that you you may have been looking for the this, but hey, there's this that's really really good out there.
• 24:38
SPEAKER_09: And this year, so far, there's a pretty broad range of of product price points.
• 24:43
SPEAKER_09: Um, I was shocked to see 15 barrels of Dickle.
• 24:48
  SPEAKER_09: I think it's 15.
• 24:51
SPEAKER_09: So it's a good price point for a 15 year, but it's also proof down, it seems like a decent amount, but it's very close to barrel strength.
• 25:02
SPEAKER_06: Uh so they have like six different labels, basically, that they because their barrels lose proof as they age because of the Dunnage style warehouses.
• 25:12
SPEAKER_06: Those barrels, a couple things, the yield is actually relatively low.
• 25:18
SPEAKER_06: So at the point where you're selecting them, and I was part of that selection, uh, they'll tell us all the details on the barrel, what the yield was.
• 25:28
SPEAKER_06: Um, so it's it's very, very close to barrel strength, but and then they proof it just to that next label.
• 25:35
  SPEAKER_06: But there isn't a wide range.
• 25:37
  SPEAKER_09: So for a 15-year for$64.99, that's pretty steep.
• 25:41
SPEAKER_13: Well, that also that also explains, CT, why what she just said is why they picked 15 barrels because it's there, they were looking at the amount of bottles they're purchasing, not the amount of barrels, because the yield was at 15 years was so low that it that other ones that you bought four barrels for, you probably got as many bottles.
• 26:04
SPEAKER_09: I think that I at least in my recollection, the last two years, there's been only a few dickle barrels.
• 26:12
SPEAKER_09: Like it's like there wasn't enough, and people were looking for it because they see that age statement, and it it's good juice.
• 26:19
SPEAKER_09: So for the money, they were looking for it and you couldn't find it because it was already gone.
• 26:24
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's usually one that sells out on the first day.
• 26:27
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 26:28
SPEAKER_06: Last year it was actually the highest first day sales, and it was just shy of 30,000 bottles.
• 26:36
SPEAKER_06: And the majority of those were in the first 90 minutes.
• 26:41
SPEAKER_06: It's you know, usually stores open at nine, and by 11, 11:30, everybody's like sort of headed back and maybe hopping around different places.
• 26:50
SPEAKER_06: And I can tell you when we had the Willet before, some of those bottles survived to Sunday.
• 26:56
SPEAKER_09: They did because I went into a store and saw one for three, I think it was still$3.99.
• 27:01
SPEAKER_09: I think it was the same price point, whether it was a year or two ago.
• 27:04
  SPEAKER_09: Yes.
• 27:04
SPEAKER_09: But also a year or two ago, those things were upwards of a thousand dollars too.
• 27:10
SPEAKER_09: You know, they were secondary, they were really hard to get.
• 27:13
SPEAKER_13: So the chance to buy one in Ohio was just if I'm not mistaken, wasn't it mostly the rye though, last last year?
• 27:24
SPEAKER_13: And this year you've got the bourbon.
• 27:27
SPEAKER_13: If I'm that I'm not that I think because I don't remember having a that I remember saying, I'm not you you know me and Rye, although it's uh I after 80 ryes in a row that I like, I guess I like ries.
• 27:43
SPEAKER_13: Uh speaking of of rye, real quick, uh do you do Ann, you did get your um Wendy package?
• 27:52
  SPEAKER_06: Wendy package?
• 27:54
  SPEAKER_13: No.
• 27:55
SPEAKER_13: The the Archer Archer and I don't know Archer and Eland.
• 28:02
  SPEAKER_06: No.
• 28:03
  SPEAKER_13: Oh okay.
• 28:04
SPEAKER_13: Well I'll share I'll share some with you when when after that, I'll share some with you the next time we she she put out the the the little sample packets.
• 28:14
SPEAKER_06: Oh, I know she's gonna be debuting her bottle pretty soon, so it's pretty cool.
• 28:19
SPEAKER_06: I'm really excited to see it.
• 28:21
SPEAKER_07: The so Ant, real quick, so you you've been involved on some of these barrel picks, not all of them, right?
• 28:27
  SPEAKER_07: Me too.
• 28:30
SPEAKER_09: What are you most excited about in this barrel release on Saturday?
• 28:36
SPEAKER_09: What what is the bottle that you are most excited about?
• 28:39
  SPEAKER_09: Ann?
• 28:40
SPEAKER_02: I'm looking at my lie.
• 28:42
  SPEAKER_09: Lie Ann.
• 28:43
  SPEAKER_02: Lie.
• 28:43
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, no one, and because not everybody is Anne's palette, so what Anne says is like, man, that was so good.
• 28:54
SPEAKER_09: I wanna, I wanna that that's one to go look for.
• 28:57
  SPEAKER_06: Okay.
• 28:58
SPEAKER_06: So Augusta Distillery was amazing.
• 29:03
SPEAKER_13: Oh it it is Buckner's tenure, the old Route 8, and then also dark arts.
• 29:13
SPEAKER_06: They hate to be, you know, the basic girl, but they're so unique.
• 29:17
SPEAKER_06: We've got four single barrels.
• 29:18
SPEAKER_06: That's actually I I went looking to see if I had anything single barrel Saturday, and I still I have my or it's not showing my sample, little sample from the tasting.
• 29:29
SPEAKER_06: Um and I have a Japanese, toasted Japanese Mizanara oak.
• 29:35
SPEAKER_06: You won't go wrong with any of those barrels, they're fantastic.
• 29:39
SPEAKER_06: There is one horse soldier barrel.
• 29:42
SPEAKER_06: There are very few horse soldier barrels sold.
• 29:45
SPEAKER_06: And I did not pick this one.
• 29:50
SPEAKER_06: Some people on my team and that I work with picked it.
• 29:55
SPEAKER_06: And I did get to try a sample of it.
• 29:59
SPEAKER_06: Holy wow! Like, where did you find this?
• 30:03
SPEAKER_06: So that is going to be, I think that's gonna be a sleeper that people might go past.
• 30:09
  SPEAKER_01: Ten year or 11-year-old?
• 30:11
SPEAKER_01: Oh gosh, I don't feel like eleven years old.
• 30:14
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 30:16
SPEAKER_06: It is pretty high proof.
• 30:18
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 30:19
SPEAKER_06: The free ranch, that was such a fun barrel pick with them.
• 30:24
SPEAKER_06: And it was, I mean, Colby was trying one of them, and he's like, all right, this is a banger.
• 30:30
SPEAKER_06: They they basically sent some samples.
• 30:32
SPEAKER_06: We couldn't arrange to go out there in time to get the product here for single barrel Saturday.
• 30:38
SPEAKER_06: So they sent like this giant box of samples, and we got it down to maybe three or four of the, you know, like the bourbon and the rye, and sort of tasted through and said, Okay, what do you think between these?
• 30:50
SPEAKER_06: And and so they actually kind of came alongside and helped with those.
• 30:54
  SPEAKER_06: That was really fun.
• 30:56
SPEAKER_06: The knob creaks are so good.
• 31:00
SPEAKER_06: They I'm so excited about this lineup.
• 31:03
  SPEAKER_06: Pursuit, amazing.
• 31:06
SPEAKER_13: Are you trying to make us broke?
• 31:09
  SPEAKER_06: I'm sorry.
• 31:11
SPEAKER_13: You've named all of them.
• 31:13
  SPEAKER_11: What the what?
• 31:14
  SPEAKER_13: That's pretty darn close.
• 31:17
  SPEAKER_06: I haven't I haven't named them all.
• 31:20
SPEAKER_13: No, you haven't because you're making sure you don't name the two that are being or the ones being announced tomorrow.
• 31:26
SPEAKER_13: So you she was totally skipped around my question.
• 31:29
  SPEAKER_09: She's named everybody.
• 31:30
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
• 31:31
SPEAKER_06: I haven't named everybody, and now I'm feeling bad for the ones I haven't named.
• 31:34
SPEAKER_09: But they're Ryan, Ryan and Kenny win the award for absolute best short that you that you posted for the That was by far the best opening of like, hey, this is we're gonna be part of this thing, and being John Madden and doing that little thing that uh Ryan was doing was hilarious.
• 31:56
SPEAKER_06: Did you see their video from last year?
• 32:00
  SPEAKER_06: I don't I know I will send it to you.
• 32:04
  SPEAKER_06: Last year was unreal.
• 32:06
SPEAKER_06: So they and they're a lot busier now because they've got the new location and all of this kind of stuff.
• 32:12
SPEAKER_06: So that was amazing given how busy they are compared to a year ago.
• 32:16
  SPEAKER_06: I mean, last year's was unreal.
• 32:20
  SPEAKER_06: It was so good.
• 32:21
SPEAKER_09: And again, what a price point for what that bottle is.
• 32:24
  SPEAKER_09: It's what$499.
• 32:26
SPEAKER_09: I mean, there's some really good pickups for some you know, value if you're not looking to spend$399 or whatever.
• 32:36
SPEAKER_09: There's some some great bottles for the for the price.
• 32:39
SPEAKER_06: There is something in every price range.
• 32:43
SPEAKER_09: So, what was your favorite overall since you avoided the question?
• 32:47
  SPEAKER_09: Overall, the best thing.
• 32:49
SPEAKER_06: What was but I have to try them again side by side.
• 32:53
  SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
• 32:58
  SPEAKER_06: I mean it's so hard.
• 33:00
SPEAKER_06: Like, what do you feel like on any given day?
• 33:03
SPEAKER_06: Because all of those different bottles have a different personality, you know?
• 33:08
SPEAKER_06: There's a lot of open bottles in my house, but I don't necessarily grab the same one like all the time.
• 33:16
SPEAKER_06: You know, this this feels like uh so I I tried from the Ohio Craft Whiskey Fest the Dietrich single barrel.
• 33:23
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's so good.
• 33:25
  SPEAKER_06: Yep.
• 33:25
SPEAKER_06: That one that one has been poured for friends.
• 33:28
  SPEAKER_06: It's it's fantastic.
• 33:30
SPEAKER_13: They've they've contacted us and want to do a do a podcast, and then also we're gonna go down there with an experience.
• 33:38
SPEAKER_13: Because that place is an experience, right?
• 33:43
SPEAKER_09: Yep, right downtown Dayton, right in the Oregon district.
• 33:52
  SPEAKER_09: Yep.
• 33:53
SPEAKER_09: Sit across from the Dublin pub or whatever.
• 33:55
  SPEAKER_09: It's not the Dublin.
• 33:56
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it is the Dublin pub.
• 33:58
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, they make some good stuff.
• 34:00
SPEAKER_09: Dan's answer was very vague, but I'm gonna guess that for sure the Buckners, you can't go wrong.
• 34:09
SPEAKER_13: And of the dark arts, Calvados or the Mizanara, the Mizanara and the Calvados were pretty fantastic, like off the charts.
• 34:29
SPEAKER_09: I mean Calvados hold on because there's not a lot of people that have a Calvados barrel, like Starlight did last year.
• 34:36
SPEAKER_09: We got one, I think, matter of fact, for this event last year.
• 34:40
SPEAKER_13: Um I I it's funny because when we did the like me and Ann were talking about how hot dark arts is, and uh their dark arts just was sitting for it like eight, nine months here in in my at my giant eagle.
• 34:57
SPEAKER_13: It uh every time I went, I I bought initially the releases, but they were just sitting there and nobody knew what they were.
• 35:05
SPEAKER_13: And as Ann was saying, after Kentucky Bourbon Festival, it's all gone.
• 35:10
  SPEAKER_13: It's gone.
• 35:11
SPEAKER_13: People know they're they're finding out about dark arts.
• 35:14
SPEAKER_13: And so when we did the when we did we did the the barrel pick before Kentucky Bourbon Festival, I would think if we went back and did that barrel pick again after Kentucky Bourbon Festival, probably there would be maybe a couple more barrels because uh to get it narrowed down to four was difficult.
• 35:37
SPEAKER_13: I mean, those four barrels were fantastic, but there was a couple other I think we tasted 10.
• 35:42
SPEAKER_06: Isn't that what we I think it was quite it was quite a few, but at the same point, it was one of those brands where you don't want to flood like the whole thing and have too many out there because then people will be like, it's a hundred dollar bottle, which is not that's not just an impulse purchase.
• 36:02
SPEAKER_06: Like people need to know something about it.
• 36:05
SPEAKER_06: But do I wish we had picked a couple more barrels?
• 36:09
  SPEAKER_06: Oh yes.
• 36:09
SPEAKER_13: Or if we could have, or if we or if we would have known, we could have talked them out of a couple of the buff turkey 16 year old.
• 36:19
SPEAKER_13: I think it I mean uh both at Mcaulay, McAuley at Kentucky Bourbon Festival and at Bourbon on the Banks.
• 36:30
SPEAKER_13: At Bourbon on the Banks, you couldn't, it was this the it's not a three-day festival.
• 36:34
SPEAKER_13: So at Kentucky Bourbon Festival at the end, I was able to get in and do all the things, but at Bourbon on the Banks, it was just jammed.
• 36:42
SPEAKER_13: The line was the biggest line the whole time.
• 36:44
  SPEAKER_13: I could I I waved at him.
• 36:46
SPEAKER_13: That's all I could do is wave at Macaulay.
• 36:48
SPEAKER_13: Macaulay's like, Well, I didn't get to see you.
• 36:50
SPEAKER_13: And I'm just like, I waved at you.
• 36:52
SPEAKER_13: It's like it's like you were so jammed, and he is.
• 36:56
SPEAKER_13: Uh, it's a hot thing, so really kind of cool.
• 36:58
SPEAKER_06: So I just got to share a little backstory.
• 37:02
SPEAKER_06: He actually texted maybe a week or so ago, and he said, So should I show up for single barrel Saturday and like hand out some merch and go to stores and all this stuff?
• 37:12
SPEAKER_06: And it's so bad, but I was like, Macaulay, most stores that got your stuff, they got one case from one barrel.
• 37:22
SPEAKER_06: It's going to be gone.
• 37:28
  SPEAKER_06: What?
• 37:29
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
• 37:29
SPEAKER_00: Well, we want to become the my store.
• 37:31
  SPEAKER_00: That'd be great.
• 37:32
SPEAKER_06: But we have more of his stuff at one point.
• 37:37
SPEAKER_13: Well, but but honestly, the thing about okay, so what's even crazier is that there's a single barrel Saturday, but throughout the whole year, Ohio keeps releasing barrels.
• 37:51
SPEAKER_13: They're not some people don't some people release barrels and participate in single barrel Saturday.
• 37:58
SPEAKER_13: So there's there's there's this that all throughout the year, we keep getting single barrels from different places.
• 38:05
  SPEAKER_13: Elijah Craig, for instance.
• 38:07
SPEAKER_13: I mean, that that that that was just a single barrel release, just you know, so so there's a lot of different single barrels being released, but that uh Macaulay should just do a dark arts release separate and go to go do uh Freddie Johnson, a Fred Minnick kind of thing, and just hit the Cincinnati Cleveland Akron roundabout.
• 38:31
SPEAKER_06: Yes, do they do that?
• 38:34
SPEAKER_06: We're gonna have to see if he has any more of the buff turkey and do like a redo.
• 38:38
SPEAKER_13: I think he I it was crazy.
• 38:42
SPEAKER_13: I think he sold 10 barrels of buff turkey, 16-year-old buff turkey.
• 38:47
SPEAKER_13: And that was what was the price on that CT?
• 38:51
SPEAKER_13: I mean, I he made Jim Beam money that at Kentucky Bourbon Festival.
• 38:56
  SPEAKER_09: 49, if I'm not mistaken.
• 38:57
  SPEAKER_09: I think his was$349.
• 38:58
SPEAKER_09: Maybe I'm wrong, but it's about that.
• 39:00
SPEAKER_09: It was it was not a cheap.
• 39:03
SPEAKER_09: I was just like, but it wasn't cheap, but it wasn't as expensive as some of the brands who had come out with it and were charging 400 plus dollars for it.
• 39:11
SPEAKER_13: But that was a 16-year that that he actually poured directly from the the bottle.
• 39:18
SPEAKER_13: In I I did a what would you call it?
• 39:22
SPEAKER_13: Uh a beer bong shot of a whiskey bong.
• 39:27
SPEAKER_13: You were there for that, Matt, right?
• 39:29
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was funny.
• 39:31
SPEAKER_09: I so so pulled the bottle up like real quick, and the this year, the one brand that's on there that I don't remember being on there before, Boone County.
• 39:41
SPEAKER_09: Um, which I've I've got a Boone County bottle up here, which is actually a seven-year single barrel.
• 39:47
SPEAKER_09: So that's kind of a new, newer brand to bring into the the mix.
• 39:52
SPEAKER_06: So Boone County, I'm trying to think if we've done a release since then, but do you remember Whiskey Gold Rush?
• 40:00
  SPEAKER_03: Yes.
• 40:01
  SPEAKER_06: So okay.
• 40:03
SPEAKER_06: And then it was announced that day, and you went into the stores to enter, and then surprise there were a bunch of single barrels.
• 40:10
SPEAKER_06: Like it was kind of a mini single barrel Saturday.
• 40:13
SPEAKER_06: And by the way, while you're out there, Boone County was released as part of that, and it was the fastest thing to sell, and people love it.
• 40:24
  SPEAKER_06: It's harder to get.
• 40:25
  unknown: I don't know.
• 40:27
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
• 40:28
SPEAKER_09: And they're in northern Kentucky, so like for people in Ohio, it's one of those that if you're gonna go to New Rift, really, Boone County is only another 10-15 minutes down the road.
• 40:38
SPEAKER_09: But it's on your way home.
• 40:40
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, well, and their price point on seven and eight-year-old stuff is really good.
• 40:46
SPEAKER_13: That's gentleman's cut, which was right so so.
• 40:50
SPEAKER_13: Roxy and me on our way home from Bourbon on the banks, we like to stop at places because we got nothing to do.
• 40:56
SPEAKER_13: So we stopped at Boone County, did the tour and everything.
• 40:58
SPEAKER_13: So I was so we did a tasting and I was able to get the the founders reserve, which I think that's what you guys have, right?
• 41:06
SPEAKER_13: The founders reserve is what what the boon looked like it was the same bottle.
• 41:12
SPEAKER_09: I got the eight year.
• 41:13
  SPEAKER_09: I have a seven and eight.
• 41:15
SPEAKER_09: The bourbon cream's phenomenal, the maple's so good.
• 41:19
SPEAKER_09: I like their stuff a lot, but it was surprising to see it pop up this year that that was going to be one of the single barrels because again, at the price point it is for a seven or eight year distillate, it's a good price point because I think these come in at 65 or 69.
• 41:33
  SPEAKER_09: Is that right, Ann?
• 41:35
  SPEAKER_06: Uh, let me look.
• 41:36
  SPEAKER_06: I actually right here.
• 41:39
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, 65, 64.99.
• 41:42
  SPEAKER_09: Good bargain.
• 41:44
SPEAKER_09: And again, for people that are in Ohio that are like, oh, what the heck's Boone County?
• 41:48
SPEAKER_09: They have a great story.
• 41:49
SPEAKER_09: It is a really nice tour.
• 41:51
SPEAKER_09: Like, if you're gonna take a tour again, if you're down by New Riff, this is a spot that's 10-15 minutes down the road.
• 41:58
SPEAKER_09: They have a nice tour, the tasting's really good.
• 42:01
SPEAKER_09: Uh, they've spent some money on that tour setup as far as doing it right.
• 42:06
SPEAKER_13: Well, they won the best craft distillery tour in Kentucky, I believe, in 2022.
• 42:12
SPEAKER_13: I mean, they actually won it.
• 42:13
SPEAKER_13: And it is a it's a compact tour, but it's done really well.
• 42:17
  SPEAKER_13: There's no doubt.
• 42:18
SPEAKER_13: It's it's just kind of like they've got stations.
• 42:23
SPEAKER_13: So, but so what one of the things I find with Single Barrel Saturday, and if you really think about it, Anne, um, some of the places, so Boone County sits on the shelf in Ohio.
• 42:36
SPEAKER_13: You can pick it up off the shelf.
• 42:38
SPEAKER_13: I mean, walk into your the you do have their regular, you know, distillate, which when you think about how small it is, it's kind of amazing that it's there.
• 42:50
SPEAKER_13: But a single barrel Saturday is their chance to get people to start to recognize that bottle.
• 42:58
SPEAKER_13: Because I think the hardest part, you know, when you bring up Freddie uh Johnson from Buffalo Trace and the big, huge crowds and everybody, whatever, it just makes that name brand recognition that anytime Buffalo Trace is on the shelf, like if it they you get enough and their Buffalo Trace hits the shelf, people just buy it off name recognition.
• 43:20
SPEAKER_13: But there's some of the brands that don't have that, they just kind of hang out.
• 43:24
SPEAKER_13: And the only thing that's stopping it isn't the quality of the whiskey, it's the person has no idea what it is.
• 43:32
SPEAKER_13: And this single barrel Saturday is such a great thing for people to start to get a chance to know what it is.
• 43:41
SPEAKER_13: Because honestly, I don't think the state of Ohio releases any bad barrels, and that's the next thing that we need to talk about is talk about how you guys set up your team to pick these barrels.
• 43:55
SPEAKER_13: Because you're part of it, and and and being on a pick with Ann is a special thing.
• 44:01
SPEAKER_13: It's like being like being on a pick with Wendy Bevan.
• 44:06
SPEAKER_13: When Wendy's on a, I mean, they both can express themselves in unbelievable ways of what whiskey, what they're tasting, and they can they can actually um do it better than most people.
• 44:20
SPEAKER_13: And then when they do it, most people can open up and know what they're tasting a little bit better.
• 44:26
SPEAKER_13: But Ann, talk about the how you guys assemble the teams to pick this out.
• 44:30
SPEAKER_13: It's not just mailing it in.
• 44:33
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, no.
• 44:35
SPEAKER_06: So uh, and to put me in the same category as Wendy is the most flattering and least true thing ever.
• 44:43
SPEAKER_06: Because when I'm on a barrel pick and Wendy's joining, I just sit back because I I just just I'll type the notes.
• 44:51
  SPEAKER_06: You you go, Wendy.
• 44:53
SPEAKER_06: Um, she is amazing, she's an amazing blender.
• 44:57
  SPEAKER_06: She's got a brand coming out.
• 44:59
SPEAKER_06: I'm so excited for it.
• 45:01
SPEAKER_06: Uh, that being said, so how do we do these barrel picks?
• 45:03
SPEAKER_06: Because you see, I mean, so we've got single barrel Saturday, we're actually scheduled into February for barrel releases already.
• 45:11
SPEAKER_06: It is it's just huge.
• 45:14
SPEAKER_06: So you can't have one person going and picking all of the barrels.
• 45:18
SPEAKER_06: So as a team, we have a group of us, and generally there's a few people from the team, so we sort of divide it up, and then we usually invite people like you guys.
• 45:33
  SPEAKER_06: Um, so whiskey podcasters.
• 45:36
SPEAKER_06: We've had people that are uh, you know, that have post on like sort of influencer type people that are really into like whiskey content, uh, bar restaurant owners, like whiskey bars.
• 45:51
SPEAKER_06: There was a really great guy from a bar up in Marion that reached out through the call center and said, you know, I'd like to do an OHLQ barrel pick with you guys.
• 46:02
  SPEAKER_06: And he was fantastic.
• 46:04
SPEAKER_06: Um and he's doing some great stuff up there.
• 46:07
  SPEAKER_06: So it's it's never just like one person, it's always a team, and it's it's a different team.
• 46:14
  SPEAKER_13: Well, and diversified.
• 46:16
SPEAKER_13: Um, and that's one thing.
• 46:17
SPEAKER_13: Uh I've been on, you know, when we do a Scotchy Bourbon Boys barrel pick, uh I and and Matt, we did the private select.
• 46:26
SPEAKER_13: I we kind of have a direction we want to go, and we're trying to make it the best direction that we possibly can, right?
• 46:32
  SPEAKER_13: CD CT?
• 46:34
SPEAKER_13: That's you're trying, you're trying to pick the best barrel, like like having an inn with the distiller like Alan Bishop, and then being able to do something with him or do something with the uh the distiller like when we picked with Sandy No, which was Fred No's and Freddie's mom, that you know that they're gonna give that that you're gonna be picking from some damn good barrels.
• 46:57
SPEAKER_13: You know, there it's like so.
• 46:58
SPEAKER_13: If you're picking with the certain people or picking for the state, but the thing is is when you're picking for the state, it's a whole different ball game because you're not picking to get your best barrel, you're picking to pick for everyone and all the different palettes.
• 47:18
SPEAKER_13: And some people like not sweet whiskey, and other people love sweet whiskey, and then other people like you know, the like finished stuff and whatever, whatever the you guys are picking for everyone, and that's not quite an easy thing, but one of the things where I give you a comp compliment, Ann, is you do understand what the what the drinking whiskey people, those different types of people are, and you're able to kind of uh understand you're trying to pick good whiskey, correct?
• 47:57
SPEAKER_13: I mean, there's no doubt you don't want anything wrong with it, but some barrels you might not like, you also know there's a lot of people who like it.
• 48:04
SPEAKER_13: So that's like a unique thing, too.
• 48:06
SPEAKER_13: What the that's why you have so many people on, right?
• 48:08
  SPEAKER_13: The diversified thing.
• 48:11
SPEAKER_06: Yes, because and also some days, like one person's palate can just be off.
• 48:17
SPEAKER_06: And if you're sitting there and you're like, I think this one's terrible, and you've got a room of people that are very accustomed to picking barrels, and they're all saying, You are lost your mind, this thing is amazing, then that's really helpful.
• 48:35
SPEAKER_06: But picking a barrel as a group or as a restaurant is infinitely more fun because if you're only going home with one and the discussion and the arguments and the that is there's nothing more fun than that about deciding what is the best barrel and what defines best.
• 48:56
SPEAKER_06: But for what we do, we're trying to find the best barrels that are, you know, maybe one is like a best of the regular product, and maybe another one is just like total candy and cotton candy and clouds and fairies, and another one is like I think we had a tasting note where it's like walking into a room where the music's on blast, and it's music you happen to like.
• 49:20
SPEAKER_06: So you're into it, but you weren't expecting that.
• 49:24
  SPEAKER_06: I mean, it's it's always different.
• 49:26
SPEAKER_06: You want to pick a bunch of good barrels, but good for different reasons.
• 49:29
SPEAKER_13: So it'd be like going on a basil Hayden barrel pick.
• 49:36
  SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
• 49:37
SPEAKER_13: I know they don't, but just imagine going on one because basil Hayden is just designed to be as fluffy and mellow as you can as a bridge, bridge.
• 49:49
SPEAKER_13: I like to call it a bridge bourbon.
• 49:51
SPEAKER_13: But if you went on a barrel pick, uh the one of the coolest barrel picks the state of Ohio ever did was the makers, uh no, no, the kit the uh Canadian Club.
• 50:00
  SPEAKER_13: No, not Canadian Club.
• 50:02
SPEAKER_13: Why am I Crown Royal?
• 50:04
  SPEAKER_13: Thank you, thank you.
• 50:05
  SPEAKER_13: The Crown Royal pick.
• 50:07
SPEAKER_13: I'm like losing my mind.
• 50:08
SPEAKER_13: It's like I'm just I'm just blurting out names.
• 50:11
SPEAKER_09: Every year I'm I wait for those Crown Royal picks to come out.
• 50:16
  SPEAKER_09: Oh my god.
• 50:16
SPEAKER_06: I they're sleepers, they are total sleepers.
• 50:20
SPEAKER_09: Everybody has no clue that that for$59 how good those bottles are.
• 50:25
SPEAKER_13: But but it's but you guys now now when you do that, do you go up to Canada and do those picks or do they send you the the the stuff?
• 50:33
SPEAKER_06: I no, I actually I don't even know that they have a visitor center, but I wouldn't want to go to Canada at that time of year to pick those barrels.
• 50:42
  SPEAKER_09: Anyways.
• 50:49
SPEAKER_06: But they they actually send uh samples and they send people from the distillery.
• 50:55
SPEAKER_13: Um kind of like what old elk did.
• 50:57
SPEAKER_06: It's not like a it's not just a FedEx box, like here you go, figure it out.
• 51:03
SPEAKER_06: It's it's usually they'll send somebody who's very knowledgeable on the brand.
• 51:07
SPEAKER_13: Who knows what they're doing?
• 51:08
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, just like the old elk.
• 51:09
SPEAKER_13: We actually had Greg Metz on on the pick, and then they also had their brand ambassadors and everything, and they brought all the samples, and they were very, very what would you say, scientific with what we were tasting, right?
• 51:24
SPEAKER_06: Um and that's another brand that's a total sleeper.
• 51:27
SPEAKER_06: And I feel like because we had so much access to it in Ohio, maybe we didn't appreciate it as much as some other markets where it's a little harder to get because it's fantastic.
• 51:39
SPEAKER_13: Old elk, are you talking about?
• 51:42
  SPEAKER_13: Yeah, okay.
• 51:43
SPEAKER_13: The cigar blend is fantastic.
• 51:45
SPEAKER_13: Oh my god, when we did that pick, that yes, and I that was that was crazy.
• 51:52
  SPEAKER_13: Plugging in my computer.
• 51:53
SPEAKER_06: But maybe I'm still here, I'm just plugging it in.
• 51:58
SPEAKER_13: So Super Nash asked a question, Ann.
• 52:03
SPEAKER_13: The question was has anyone asked Ann how many total barrels are being released in single barrel Saturday?
• 52:12
SPEAKER_13: What is your total throughout the state?
• 52:15
SPEAKER_06: What did we say in the market?
• 52:19
  SPEAKER_06: I don't think we're usually we don't usually it's over 300 locations.
• 52:26
SPEAKER_06: Um I have to look and I don't want to miss it.
• 52:32
  SPEAKER_06: I I it's over 100.
• 52:34
  SPEAKER_06: It's over 100.
• 52:36
SPEAKER_06: The very first year was 96 barrels.
• 52:38
  SPEAKER_13: Okay.
• 52:39
SPEAKER_13: And then I think it grew.
• 52:46
SPEAKER_06: This year, the most barrels that we released was actually the second year.
• 52:51
  SPEAKER_13: The second year.
• 52:52
SPEAKER_13: That makes sense because I I remember there was a little bit oh you probably thought based off of what was on the shelf for a while.
• 53:02
SPEAKER_13: Well, for instance, I that 2022, when the old elk was released, I was able to get another bottle of the Armanac like four months later, and I was happy to be able to do it.
• 53:15
SPEAKER_13: I did, you know, that's the kind of thing that that was there.
• 53:18
SPEAKER_13: But your goal is not to have stuff sit on from single barrel Saturday to sit while you have more single barrels to release throughout the throughout.
• 53:28
SPEAKER_13: So the goal is that balance, correct?
• 53:32
SPEAKER_06: It's really meant to be a curated selection that has a wide variety, but not over-selected.
• 53:39
SPEAKER_06: I think the very first year we put it together so quickly, the first year, it was really amazing.
• 53:45
SPEAKER_06: The whole thing was put together in like a week.
• 53:48
SPEAKER_06: And then we'll reveal a new barrel every day, and they're like, you want to do what?
• 53:54
SPEAKER_06: And then we'll reveal the locations, and it was so fun.
• 53:58
SPEAKER_06: Um, but then the second year, we had a lot of brands that came to us that wanted to be part of it, and we extended the the time, you know, so and we were doing like two different reveals a day, and it was it was just so much.
• 54:11
SPEAKER_06: There was a lot of fatigue.
• 54:12
SPEAKER_06: And so it sold a lot, but also we had a lot left over even a month later.
• 54:20
SPEAKER_06: So then last year and this year, we've gotten really okay.
• 54:24
SPEAKER_06: Are you willing to do a video to release your barrels?
• 54:27
SPEAKER_06: Like, are you gonna partner?
• 54:28
  SPEAKER_06: Are you uh now?
• 54:29
SPEAKER_06: Does this kind of fit into a different, you know, niche than this other one?
• 54:33
SPEAKER_06: Because you don't want things that are really similar, so there's a lot that goes into it, but it's just 12 days of countdown.
• 54:40
SPEAKER_06: And I mean we keep it kind of tight.
• 54:44
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, and really, you guys have done a great job.
• 54:47
SPEAKER_06: Uh I have a question for you guys though.
• 54:51
  SPEAKER_13: Okay.
• 54:52
SPEAKER_06: So of the barrels that have been released so far, you show up aside from anything yet to be announced.
• 55:02
  SPEAKER_06: What are you picking?
• 55:03
SPEAKER_06: You get to pick one.
• 55:06
SPEAKER_06: And this store has everything.
• 55:09
  SPEAKER_12: Everything?
• 55:14
SPEAKER_13: Would answer it or you can ACT, I'll give you permission to answer with with favoritism.
• 55:26
  SPEAKER_13: I mean, there's there's there's three, there's three for me.
• 55:29
  SPEAKER_13: What about you, Matt?
• 55:30
  SPEAKER_13: What are you thinking?
• 55:33
SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm looking for two of the dark arts specifically.
• 55:38
  SPEAKER_00: Um, what was it?
• 55:39
SPEAKER_00: What was the one with the uh candy one?
• 55:42
SPEAKER_00: The first one that you told me on Tuesday.
• 55:45
SPEAKER_00: Because you named off all four and you're reading them off.
• 55:48
SPEAKER_00: Um I wanted the Armagnac one, and there's a second one.
• 55:53
  SPEAKER_00: Hold on.
• 55:54
  SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
• 55:54
  SPEAKER_13: You don't I got them.
• 55:57
SPEAKER_13: There's the Arminac, there's the Mosk Moscatel, right?
• 56:02
  SPEAKER_13: Moscatel, yeah.
• 56:03
  SPEAKER_13: Mosquatel.
• 56:04
SPEAKER_13: There's a the Mizanara, and then there's the Calvados.
• 56:09
SPEAKER_13: So the the Mizanara and the Armanac are like were phenomenal.
• 56:14
SPEAKER_13: And then the the Calvados was pretty, pretty good.
• 56:19
SPEAKER_13: I mean, that was the outliner that when we picked it, I initially, when you think about like it was strange to me because I don't think I've had too many Calvado casks finished whiskeys or you know, that or bourbons, and then the Moscatel, Moscatel, that also was a little bit outlining, but both of them that you know that's a white wine cask, and the other one is um like the subtle apple influence of Calvados barrels.
• 56:54
SPEAKER_13: Is that like a is that like an apple brandy or is that a wine?
• 56:59
  SPEAKER_13: And you would know.
• 57:00
  SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
• 57:02
SPEAKER_09: I think Calvados is both those both last year we picked a Calvados barrel at Starlight, and it was the only one that Ted had in the Rick House, and he's like, This is my favorite barrel in the Rick House that we for OHLQ.
• 57:24
SPEAKER_06: And that is another it's another brand that flies under the radar.
• 57:28
SPEAKER_13: I'll still ask, I'll still ask you this.
• 57:31
SPEAKER_13: I'll still ask you this question.
• 57:33
SPEAKER_13: Uh I and I I figure I know the answer to it, Ann.
• 57:36
SPEAKER_13: So when we were there doing the pick at Starlight, we were we were doing it, and we we saw those.
• 57:42
SPEAKER_13: So all of a sudden we got into there where it was Starlight Distillate in a four roses finished cask.
• 57:50
SPEAKER_13: And I remember it was phenomenal.
• 57:53
SPEAKER_13: We tasted it, and and your guy there was like, how many barrels are there?
• 57:58
SPEAKER_13: And they're like six, and and he's like, We'll take them all.
• 58:02
SPEAKER_13: But I think afterwards, I mean, honestly, afterwards.
• 58:08
SPEAKER_13: How do you you can't market that?
• 58:11
SPEAKER_13: That's that those barrels, I've never you can't market that.
• 58:15
  SPEAKER_13: It's four roses, it's two brands.
• 58:17
SPEAKER_13: So I never I never saw that release.
• 58:22
SPEAKER_13: I mean, the honey barrel, I remember the honey barrels, and I saw them and I looked for it, but I never saw that where you couldn't say it's finished in four roses.
• 58:32
SPEAKER_13: I mean, you that wouldn't be that's not how it works, right?
• 58:35
SPEAKER_13: You can't cross brand like that unless you're cross-branding.
• 58:40
  SPEAKER_06: I mean, that correct.
• 58:43
SPEAKER_06: And also, that is the most fascinating thing about the bourbon industry and all the connections and all the, and it's not anything nefarious, it's that like a lot of the distilleries really do get along with each other.
• 58:57
SPEAKER_06: They're not competitive, they're actually they're in it to help each other, and it's very much like um the bartending community.
• 59:04
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 59:05
SPEAKER_06: It's hospitality is very much looking for out for each other and pulling for each other, right?
• 59:12
SPEAKER_13: But at the same time, just think about that what in my opinion, that's a marketing disaster.
• 59:17
SPEAKER_13: Four roses mixed with starlight, and then trying how you put it in the bar.
• 59:21
SPEAKER_13: You know what I mean?
• 59:23
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, because you're using four roses to sell your starlight, and you know, four roses are a much bigger thing.
• 59:30
SPEAKER_09: It speaks volume for what the industry is right now, though.
• 59:33
SPEAKER_09: I mean, we are in an industry that is secondary finishing so much, blending so much that even a brand like Starlight, which is a grain-to-glass brand, is willing to use what what look they're the ones who started my least favorite barrel of all, in my opinion.
• 59:53
SPEAKER_09: Whether they were the actual originators or not, Ted knows that I dislike the fact he used that barrel, but it worked, and so they've done really well with it, and they've done well with all these.
• 1:00:07
SPEAKER_09: And and I feel like Starlight was one of those that really got heavy on the wine finishes, and some people love them for that.
• 1:00:13
SPEAKER_09: Some people are like, nah, it's not my jam.
• 1:00:15
SPEAKER_09: I want four roses or whatever.
• 1:00:18
SPEAKER_09: But that market is huge, the finishing market, it's huge.
• 1:00:22
SPEAKER_09: I McCauley is doing it, you know.
• 1:00:24
SPEAKER_09: Obviously, Macaulay is is releasing a lot of things through dark arts that are finished with some type of save.
• 1:00:32
SPEAKER_09: Uh, and and it works.
• 1:00:34
SPEAKER_13: What is what did Macaulay say to us when we're down there, CT?
• 1:00:38
SPEAKER_13: I like the I I just like to eat and drink the best of everything.
• 1:00:45
SPEAKER_13: He just wants to drink the best, and he just wants to eat.
• 1:00:48
SPEAKER_13: And he's like, I love wine, I love different wines, but I just want to, you know, he said it in that way, and that's exactly how he produces his whiskey.
• 1:00:56
SPEAKER_13: He just tries to make it taste as good as it possibly can.
• 1:01:01
SPEAKER_13: When he when he has an armanac finished, he's gonna make that, it's it's gonna be in your face, really good, bourbon with that armanac finished, and it it's fantastic.
• 1:01:13
SPEAKER_13: And I mean we never answered Ann's questions.
• 1:01:17
SPEAKER_13: Okay, so let's go around.
• 1:01:18
  SPEAKER_13: You start off, CT.
• 1:01:20
SPEAKER_09: What bottle are you looking for, Matt?
• 1:01:23
SPEAKER_00: I'm looking for the two dark eyes.
• 1:01:26
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 1:01:27
  SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
• 1:01:28
SPEAKER_00: Armanacos and the uh Armag.
• 1:01:32
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 1:01:32
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 1:01:33
SPEAKER_00: Or if not, I'll end up getting one from somebody that picked one up at another store.
• 1:01:38
SPEAKER_09: So politically correct answer, because I'm gonna be like Ann.
• 1:01:42
SPEAKER_09: Um Out of elimination of having several of the bottles that are in this and different releases, etc.
• 1:01:52
  SPEAKER_09: etc.
• 1:01:52
  SPEAKER_09: etc.
• 1:01:53
SPEAKER_09: The bottle that I'm going for that I feel like is very unique and I'm excited about is that horse soldier bottle, which it is the only barrel of theirs.
• 1:02:05
SPEAKER_09: Um it is a 136.8 proof 10-year-old, and I am super excited about that bottle.
• 1:02:14
SPEAKER_06: I did not believe in when they came back with that sample.
• 1:02:17
  SPEAKER_06: Here's what we picked.
• 1:02:20
SPEAKER_06: And you only got one.
• 1:02:28
SPEAKER_06: And the thing is, I I poured a sample to do the tasting notes before even reading anything on the side of the little sample.
• 1:02:36
SPEAKER_06: And oh what is this?
• 1:02:39
  SPEAKER_06: I mean, it was it's exciting.
• 1:02:42
  SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
• 1:02:42
SPEAKER_07: All right, Jeff, up to you.
• 1:02:47
SPEAKER_13: I would say, and it's so stupid.
• 1:02:51
SPEAKER_13: It's just like it just goes okay.
• 1:02:54
SPEAKER_13: So you can be stupid in bourbon.
• 1:02:56
SPEAKER_13: It goes against everything that I I I like go by.
• 1:03:02
SPEAKER_13: It's like I it's it there's three that I'm gonna try that I want to get, okay?
• 1:03:08
  SPEAKER_13: Definitely the dark arts.
• 1:03:12
SPEAKER_13: But but the I'm telling you the three, but then I'll tell you the one that if it's there, I'm getting over the other ones.
• 1:03:19
SPEAKER_13: And it's uh the the dark arts.
• 1:03:21
SPEAKER_13: I should go back because I can look at the isn't our uh topic.
• 1:03:27
SPEAKER_13: No, yeah, the dark arts, any dark arts I'm buying.
• 1:03:29
SPEAKER_13: I was on that pick, that's how I work, and it still was they were fantastic, there's no doubt.
• 1:03:36
SPEAKER_13: But then there was also no green pursuit, whistle um, there was also the Augusta ones, um, the Buckners 10.
• 1:03:49
SPEAKER_13: It's it that that would be one also.
• 1:03:52
SPEAKER_13: The whole horse soldier, sure, if it's there, but the odds of that one barrel showing up in Canton, Ohio, it's slim.
• 1:04:00
SPEAKER_13: But but out of all of it, if there's a purple top Willet, I will, I will absolutely get it because from I was able to finally taste some of it, and most of the stuff from Willet, I don't like as far as not, no, don't put it this way.
• 1:04:20
  SPEAKER_13: I don't get excited about.
• 1:04:22
  SPEAKER_13: I don't wouldn't say I don't like it.
• 1:04:24
SPEAKER_13: You know, I don't mind Willet Pot still and Rowan's Creek, but I don't get excited about, but tasting that purple top and just having a tasting of the one I tasted, I can only imagine what this 11-year-old single barrel bourbon is gonna taste like, and I'll drop the cash to get it.
• 1:04:45
SPEAKER_13: So I would say the will it and then but if it's then it's like the what's your choice when you're going through the line.
• 1:04:54
SPEAKER_13: I definitely want the dark arts because I because being on the pick, and there's no doubt that's that would be so.
• 1:04:59
SPEAKER_13: Do I hold my breath on the willet and then go for the dark arts and then come back?
• 1:05:07
SPEAKER_09: It's I don't think that's if you're going for a willet, let's so let's put this out there to the universe because Ohio, we don't see will it.
• 1:05:17
SPEAKER_09: Willet does not come into the state very often unless it's a lottery bottle, usually.
• 1:05:22
SPEAKER_09: So for us, if you want a willet purple top or that rye 11 year old.
• 1:05:27
SPEAKER_09: Don't want the rye number that ought to be your number one choice.
• 1:05:30
  SPEAKER_13: I don't if it's a rye, I'm out.
• 1:05:32
SPEAKER_09: I mean, I I've I've I've actually brought rye is so different from that other rye that we did six year, those are that six year they're they're single barrels, and so they're all super unique.
• 1:05:48
SPEAKER_09: But those bottles don't come around here, and so I think if that's what you want, even at that price point, definitely snag that first because you you may not get another chance to buy it till next year or two years from now.
• 1:06:00
  SPEAKER_09: Who knows?
• 1:06:02
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I would definitely do that.
• 1:06:07
SPEAKER_09: No, hopefully, they they send it all back down to Brazil.
• 1:06:12
  SPEAKER_09: Come on, Chris.
• 1:06:13
SPEAKER_00: Oh, do we have any ask this?
• 1:06:15
SPEAKER_00: Is there any Andorra bottle being released this year?
• 1:06:18
  SPEAKER_02: Oh Help ever.
• 1:06:22
  SPEAKER_13: I'm so sad.
• 1:06:23
  SPEAKER_13: I'm so sad.
• 1:06:24
  SPEAKER_13: I hey hey Matt.
• 1:06:26
SPEAKER_13: I guarantee there might be a Rio on the shelf when you're there.
• 1:06:33
SPEAKER_00: If there is, I'm going for that first.
• 1:06:35
SPEAKER_00: Like I would uh then I'll come back.
• 1:06:38
SPEAKER_00: You wouldn't even work through the store before any.
• 1:06:41
SPEAKER_09: You find me the horse soldier, I'll make sure you have more Andy Rana than you know what to do with.
• 1:06:47
  SPEAKER_00: There you go.
• 1:06:48
SPEAKER_00: All right, now what I'm looking for is hope story, horse soldier.
• 1:06:52
SPEAKER_06: There is there are some Elijah Craig barrels.
• 1:06:56
SPEAKER_06: There's also one Heaven Hill bottled in Bond single barrel.
• 1:07:00
  SPEAKER_13: One, yeah.
• 1:07:02
SPEAKER_06: Um I saw the same, and then the Larceny single barrels, and those are really good.
• 1:07:11
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that may be no buy less because I love Larceny.
• 1:07:14
  SPEAKER_06: That's another one.
• 1:07:15
SPEAKER_06: If you get to a store and you have that one, that's a good one.
• 1:07:19
SPEAKER_06: And the Heaven Hill bottled in mind, we only got one barrel.
• 1:07:22
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, because last year we had what Ritten House was was the$32 bottle, but this year we go to the Heaven Hill, which is nice.
• 1:07:32
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so huge price range.
• 1:07:36
SPEAKER_13: I mean, are we are we so tomorrow?
• 1:07:39
SPEAKER_13: Just on the reveal, is that gonna be I mean, are we leading up to the spectacular drum roll that we're not talking about?
• 1:07:49
  SPEAKER_06: I think tomorrow's gonna be shocking.
• 1:07:53
SPEAKER_09: Oh, it better it better not be shocking.
• 1:07:56
  SPEAKER_06: It's gonna be shocking.
• 1:07:58
SPEAKER_06: Tomorrow's gonna be exciting and shocking.
• 1:08:05
SPEAKER_09: If it includes Barry Brenner, it better not be.
• 1:08:12
SPEAKER_00: I would be so excited.
• 1:08:13
SPEAKER_06: It's funny because the the Saturday morning, like, here's all the locations.
• 1:08:18
SPEAKER_06: And by the way, one more thing while you're headed out.
• 1:08:22
SPEAKER_06: Um, that first year was legit a total surprise because we never did it before, and then the second year, well, and then the third, and now it's sort of like what's the big special bottle every year?
• 1:08:35
SPEAKER_13: Right, because the first year it was easy to keep that kind of a secret because nobody expected it, nobody was in there asking.
• 1:08:42
SPEAKER_13: They all and then most people, the single barrel they didn't know what to do with it, the single barrel Saturday.
• 1:08:48
SPEAKER_13: And I remember sleeping out my truck.
• 1:08:51
SPEAKER_13: I got there thinking there'd be a line, nobody showed up, you know.
• 1:08:55
SPEAKER_13: People now at the you know, and it used to be, you know, then all of a sudden, but now people are showing up freaking at nine o'clock in the parking lot the night before, not 3:30 in the morning when the first person came for that first single barrel.
• 1:09:11
SPEAKER_13: So, I mean, it's it's a whole event, and that's really kind of cool.
• 1:09:19
SPEAKER_06: There's so much out there, there's so many locations.
• 1:09:22
SPEAKER_06: Every location has a different selection, and we really do work hard to make sure there's a great selection at, you know, like, oh, you got this, and now this one has this, and um, there's a lot that goes into it, and hopefully a lot of people are happy.
• 1:09:38
SPEAKER_13: Well, most people are happy by the oh by the way because everybody knows that's there, and that's where you supply the lines, and and and it's always something that people can't get regularly right on the thing.
• 1:09:54
SPEAKER_13: So I really think, you know, from the standpoint of that, I you know, even uh when we were at Kentucky Bourbon Festival this year, the first day, the lies the lines were long because they didn't realize how many bottle people were coming to Kentucky.
• 1:10:10
SPEAKER_13: It used to be like 40, 60, 40 bottle people, 60%, and the lines still were there, but it wasn't the majority of the people.
• 1:10:19
SPEAKER_13: I think this year, wouldn't you say it was like 65, 35 people were there for and they they they made it adjustments, but they didn't make adjustments for that much of a switch.
• 1:10:29
SPEAKER_13: So that first day, there were people upset.
• 1:10:32
SPEAKER_13: They waited three, four hours in line, didn't get anything.
• 1:10:35
SPEAKER_13: They waited two hours here and two hours there and one hour there, and they're just like, I waited the whole festival.
• 1:10:41
SPEAKER_13: I didn't go to the festival at all, and I didn't get anything.
• 1:10:44
SPEAKER_13: And then the next day, Saturday morning comes along and Jim Beam drops their drop, and they supplied everybody.
• 1:10:56
SPEAKER_13: It's like anybody who is there to start off ended up with the Knob Creek 21.
• 1:11:01
SPEAKER_13: They will, they, they saved the festival because after that they were just happy they got something.
• 1:11:07
SPEAKER_13: And that's kind of like you guys, that's something you already know.
• 1:11:11
SPEAKER_13: Because here in Ohio, to have enough for people that just kind of show up and then you and then you have all these single barrels.
• 1:11:19
SPEAKER_13: So some people aren't just gonna get, you know.
• 1:11:21
SPEAKER_13: I think we're getting to the point with certain special releases that a lot of the the people who go in line have gotten a lot of those special releases, and they have a couple because Ohio, for the last couple of years, per for instance, um, when you're talking about the Weller collection, there's there people have a couple of them because you've made them so available.
• 1:11:45
SPEAKER_13: Whereas now um they might let that go to get a dark arts, or they and so even more the average person's gonna walk in and get something special.
• 1:11:56
SPEAKER_13: So I really think that you guys got it figured out.
• 1:12:00
SPEAKER_06: We have so many locations this year that you can start at one and hop to another.
• 1:12:06
  SPEAKER_06: So it's I mean, there's there's a lot.
• 1:12:08
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's on Saturday.
• 1:12:11
SPEAKER_09: I have one last question because you're probably getting ready to leave.
• 1:12:14
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, one brand that we didn't touch on that I had a question about was the uh the whistle pig 12 year, the bespoke blended.
• 1:12:23
SPEAKER_12: Yeah, did you get to try that?
• 1:12:25
SPEAKER_12: What do you know about it?
• 1:12:26
SPEAKER_12: What is what is bespoke blended?
• 1:12:28
  SPEAKER_12: What does that mean?
• 1:12:30
SPEAKER_06: 12-year bespoke blended is actually, I believe, I don't want to speak out of turn.
• 1:12:36
SPEAKER_09: It's Madeira, Salturns, and pork.
• 1:12:40
SPEAKER_06: Yes, and it is actually a custom blend, and our team went to the actual farm, the whistlepick farm in Vermont, and with the master blender, like selected barrels and created a custom blend for Ohio.
• 1:12:58
SPEAKER_06: Fun fact a rye this happened.
• 1:13:01
SPEAKER_06: Uh is it a ride?
• 1:13:04
  SPEAKER_06: Is it a rye?
• 1:13:05
SPEAKER_09: No, it's a oh yeah, it is an old world rye.
• 1:13:08
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
• 1:13:09
  SPEAKER_09: Old rye character.
• 1:13:10
SPEAKER_09: So this is what it says is a core expression of the old rye character elevated through old world world barrel aging traditions, 12 years slumbering in new American oak barrels.
• 1:13:24
SPEAKER_09: And then finished Madeira, Saltern, Port Cast, and blah blah blah blah blah.
• 1:13:31
SPEAKER_09: 86 proof, which is really odd because it's a lower proof for what it is.
• 1:13:36
  SPEAKER_09: So go ahead.
• 1:13:37
SPEAKER_06: So they actually did a custom blend.
• 1:13:39
  SPEAKER_06: I pulled it up.
• 1:13:40
SPEAKER_06: This one is 10% Madeira age, 70% Soutern, 20% port, and then oh, there's two of them, and then a 75 Madeira, 15 Soutern, 10% port.
• 1:13:53
SPEAKER_06: So there's two barrels out there, or the two custom blends um that are super different from each other.
• 1:14:01
SPEAKER_06: There, you know when this was done, this was actually during the Freddie Johnson in-store raffles last year.
• 1:14:09
SPEAKER_06: So this is you'll pick barrels and then they won't get delivered for you know, it takes a while for barrels to get delivered.
• 1:14:17
SPEAKER_06: Um, but these actually were picked, it was a year ago in June, and then bottled, and so they came in this year and were saved for single barrel Saturday.
• 1:14:28
SPEAKER_13: So when you say that, so it's really once you pick, you pick, and then it's up to the distillery when they actually a lot of times you pick and most of them dump, but then they get in line and it's when they get then it's like when they get bottled and then shipped up to you.
• 1:14:51
SPEAKER_13: So some distilleries because of like let's just say a larger distillery, to get those single barrels bottled, it's not as easy because they're in line behind so many other single barrels, and then they're always making their own stuff.
• 1:15:07
SPEAKER_13: So it's like that's what determines how long it takes.
• 1:15:12
SPEAKER_06: I mean, it's you guys know, like if you work in any sort of thing manufacturing logistics, it's uh they might not do the single barrels, they might save them up and then batch them and bottle a bunch of single barrels at the same time.
• 1:15:28
SPEAKER_06: So you're really at the mercy of the production schedule, and then you're at the mercy of the logistics team.
• 1:15:35
SPEAKER_06: So there's a lot that goes into it after you decide to pick a barrel.
• 1:15:39
SPEAKER_13: Okay, so we have the maker's mark private select.
• 1:15:44
  SPEAKER_13: It's due any day.
• 1:15:46
SPEAKER_13: It's like it takes the once once you pick it, they gotta put it in the barrel.
• 1:15:51
SPEAKER_13: They put the the the thing, and then it sits for anywhere between two uh they said eight to twelve twelve weeks or whatever.
• 1:16:01
SPEAKER_13: So I got a little card at sleeps in the cave.
• 1:16:04
  SPEAKER_13: Right.
• 1:16:05
SPEAKER_13: Right, but then it kind of scared me because I got a card at one month saying that you're halfway there, you know what I mean?
• 1:16:14
SPEAKER_13: And then if once once it's ready to be dumped, is makers is makers mark just as long as the other ones to get them bottled and up?
• 1:16:27
SPEAKER_13: Or does it, in your experience, does it come quicker?
• 1:16:30
SPEAKER_13: Because I'm just scared that it's that because I'm in the process of, you know, be through the state of Ohio, then we basically offer, you know, whatever.
• 1:16:40
SPEAKER_13: So I'm afraid it's gonna, it's gonna be faster than the normal five-month waiting period.
• 1:16:48
SPEAKER_06: I would stay in close touch with who uh like whomever you're working with from Makersmart, because they're gonna know way better than me.
• 1:16:55
  SPEAKER_13: Okay.
• 1:16:56
SPEAKER_06: But generally, you sort of see how things are sequencing, and you know if you work for a brand like I submitted this on this day.
• 1:17:05
SPEAKER_06: If you work at the distillery like I did before, you go out there and you you know knock on the head distiller's door, who also runs production, you're like, hey, I need this bottled.
• 1:17:16
SPEAKER_06: All right, I'll get you on the schedule.
• 1:17:18
SPEAKER_13: So I could call and tell them to del to take their time.
• 1:17:24
  SPEAKER_06: Totally.
• 1:17:25
SPEAKER_06: I mean, you can totally work with distilleries.
• 1:17:28
  SPEAKER_13: It's uh nothing's fast.
• 1:17:30
  SPEAKER_13: Nothing's fast.
• 1:17:31
SPEAKER_13: No, you don't want to work with the state of Ohio.
• 1:17:37
SPEAKER_13: As far as you don't want to let it sit in their warehouses very long because there's a chance they could send it to somebody else.
• 1:17:46
  SPEAKER_13: That's all.
• 1:17:47
  SPEAKER_06: No.
• 1:17:48
SPEAKER_12: Well, that happens, it happens everywhere.
• 1:17:52
SPEAKER_09: That's that that kind of stuff happens in every state.
• 1:17:55
  SPEAKER_13: I'm not saying that's that's bad.
• 1:17:57
SPEAKER_13: I'm just saying that most people who, if you're doing a barrel pick, once it hits it, once it hits the warehouse, you want to get it out of there as fast as possible.
• 1:18:05
  SPEAKER_13: That's all I'm saying.
• 1:18:06
SPEAKER_13: You don't want to let it sit.
• 1:18:07
SPEAKER_13: It just, if you let anything sit, there's a chance of something because of the massive amount of spirits you guys are moving for a state.
• 1:18:17
SPEAKER_13: It's not like it's just a brand with the distribution.
• 1:18:20
SPEAKER_13: You guys are moving everything.
• 1:18:22
  SPEAKER_13: You're the distributor, correct?
• 1:18:24
SPEAKER_06: I can tell you that years ago, this is years and years ago, I heard about some unsold Russell's reserve barrels that were sitting in a distributor warehouse in a different state.
• 1:18:35
SPEAKER_06: And I actually called and I said, Hey, let's make a deal.
• 1:18:40
SPEAKER_06: Like, if you can't sell them, we can sell them over here.
• 1:18:44
SPEAKER_06: Um, that being said, they decided to keep them and sell them there.
• 1:18:49
SPEAKER_06: But uh, you know, I mean, it's hopefully things aren't sitting.
• 1:18:54
SPEAKER_09: So, Ann, for next year, are we looking we're looking forward to upping the game, right?
• 1:18:59
SPEAKER_09: We're taking this urban and upping it.
• 1:19:01
SPEAKER_09: We've got single barrel Saturday.
• 1:19:04
SPEAKER_09: Will we see tequila Thursday?
• 1:19:08
  SPEAKER_06: Okay, or tequila Tuesday.
• 1:19:10
  SPEAKER_12: Tequila Tuesday starts better.
• 1:19:13
  SPEAKER_07: That sounds good.
• 1:19:13
SPEAKER_12: No, it's taco Tuesday is tequila Thursday.
• 1:19:16
SPEAKER_06: If if there was one thing that you could do to make next year even better, what would you guys do?
• 1:19:23
SPEAKER_06: Round Robin before I jump off.
• 1:19:26
  SPEAKER_13: Okay, that's easy.
• 1:19:27
SPEAKER_06: What would make this even better?
• 1:19:31
  SPEAKER_00: I know what I would do.
• 1:19:33
  SPEAKER_00: Something with ambirana.
• 1:19:35
  SPEAKER_00: Or maybe a realana.
• 1:19:40
SPEAKER_00: Wait, I'm talking about single barrel Penelope Rio pick.
• 1:19:48
SPEAKER_00: Would be phenomenal because it sells out everywhere that it goes.
• 1:19:51
SPEAKER_00: Anyway, on a single barrel Saturday, if you had a single barrel of it, and you can lower and hire the honey to ambirata level in it when you do a single barrel because they have different ages when you can pick them.
• 1:20:04
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 1:20:04
SPEAKER_00: So I have actually made priest-like one.
• 1:20:07
SPEAKER_06: No, it's not gonna be.com in the coming weeks for something from Penelope that's only in Ohio.
• 1:20:19
  SPEAKER_08: I'm excited.
• 1:20:20
  SPEAKER_08: I have an idea.
• 1:20:21
SPEAKER_06: Not um Branana, so don't get so okay.
• 1:20:24
  SPEAKER_08: There we go.
• 1:20:26
SPEAKER_09: So what about doing a lottery instead of for bottles for a chance to be on one of the pick teams for one of the barrel picks for the state of Ohio?
• 1:20:38
  SPEAKER_06: I like that.
• 1:20:39
  SPEAKER_06: That's fine.
• 1:20:40
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, just a just a like like if you're at you know, single barrel Saturday, if you're at the store, you're gonna basically um people who can, you know, whatever you're there when you whatever you have a certain amount of people that would be available to go on picks for the next single barrel Saturday.
• 1:21:01
SPEAKER_13: That when people there are there.
• 1:21:04
SPEAKER_09: Because once people do that, I do think it changes things a lot.
• 1:21:08
SPEAKER_09: Like once there are a lot of people, we're kind of jaded.
• 1:21:11
SPEAKER_09: We've been fortunate to be able to do a lot of single barrel picks.
• 1:21:14
SPEAKER_09: There are people who've never been on one have no idea what that experience is like, and even though there's companies like Whiskey Thief that replicate it to a certain degree, it is different.
• 1:21:24
SPEAKER_09: I think that would be a really cool experience, and it really doesn't cost anything for anybody, it's just show up and be a part of it.
• 1:21:32
  SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I I agree with that.
• 1:21:33
SPEAKER_13: Um, and that with your team, I mean, you have so many different people, but there's but as we keep going forward, and you know, when the state started doing single barrels, this the state of Ohio didn't always do single barrels.
• 1:21:50
SPEAKER_13: You you guys started that single barrel program, and once that started, you're you were sending teams, and realistically, when you've been on your first single barrel pick that you go on is unbelievable.
• 1:22:07
SPEAKER_13: It's like the bet you smell things for the first time, and it's like you've you go and it's just amazing.
• 1:22:13
SPEAKER_13: It's like you're you and you you kind of wanted to go on a single barrel pick, right?
• 1:22:18
SPEAKER_13: But at the same time, you never got a chance to.
• 1:22:20
SPEAKER_13: So it's just there's something special about bringing somebody on that the first time.
• 1:22:24
SPEAKER_13: But now you have teams that now we're into the fourth, the fourth single barrel Saturday, and you're picking single barrels throughout the whole year, and that it's not as special to those people because they've done it over and over and over.
• 1:22:40
SPEAKER_13: So it's kind of cool to keep supplementing people, you know, different people to go in so that you still keep that fresh, exciting feeling to what they're picking, right?
• 1:22:53
SPEAKER_06: My first ever single barrel pick was in 2014 in the Rick House with Eddie Russell, and it was like four or five bars and restaurants, and we're still all friends to this day.
• 1:23:04
SPEAKER_06: Everybody that was on that single barrel pick, best memories ever.
• 1:23:09
SPEAKER_06: Uh, that being said, the single barrel program for Ohio Liquor was happening even back then.
• 1:23:16
SPEAKER_06: It just didn't have the marketing behind it.
• 1:23:19
SPEAKER_06: And then really the big stuff started around like 2017, 2018.
• 1:23:25
SPEAKER_06: 2018 was sort of when the big the big releases started happening.
• 1:23:29
SPEAKER_06: But they were happening before, but we didn't have ohq.com and we didn't have email and we didn't have social media and we didn't weren't telling enough people that this was available, and there was no way to like send them to where it's available from a website.
• 1:23:44
SPEAKER_06: So part of it is I think a really important part of everything is having transparency and giving lots of people the opportunity to find the bottles they want versus just the people that happen to know the person that works at the store.
• 1:24:00
  unknown: Sure.
• 1:24:01
SPEAKER_09: So I think that would be really fun to see somebody like just a random Mary Mary Swanson who shows up and goes on a barrel pick, and that you guys show her going through the barrel pick at a place.
• 1:24:16
SPEAKER_09: I think that brings a lot of people in that are just like because unfortunately, people feel like we have a certain palette and we may favor this brand or that brand, which we don't, we just love bourbon.
• 1:24:28
SPEAKER_09: But bringing somebody totally new off the street that is just a fan or just a they have to like bourbon, uh they have to like bourbon, yes, right.
• 1:24:41
  SPEAKER_13: There's no yeah.
• 1:24:43
SPEAKER_06: I don't want to throw my mom under the bus, but my mom really likes American honey, wonderful product, highly I'm I'm a fan.
• 1:24:53
SPEAKER_06: I wouldn't send my mom on a barrel pack.
• 1:24:56
SPEAKER_12: Would you say she likes American honey?
• 1:25:00
  SPEAKER_12: Yeah, oh yeah, wow.
• 1:25:03
SPEAKER_06: Okay, it's made with honey.
• 1:25:05
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, so Super Nash has a great idea.
• 1:25:10
SPEAKER_13: So instead of just one um allocated distillery, have multiple different ones throughout.
• 1:25:23
SPEAKER_13: Like for instance, you would have an allocated like allocated bottle from Jim Beam in this section, allocated from Buffalo Trace and allocated, and have those releases, which then would make it almost impossible for anybody to find out what those releases were gonna be, because it would be so confusing because you'd have four or five different ones from the different distilleries that nobody would know what was going on and this and where it was gonna be, and it would just seriously be special where where you where you where you went.
• 1:25:56
SPEAKER_13: So that was super Nash's idea.
• 1:26:00
SPEAKER_06: You could maybe we need like allocated, but what is it Saturday?
• 1:26:04
SPEAKER_06: Is it allocated Saturday, or is it I don't know.
• 1:26:09
SPEAKER_00: There is a lot of budget from Saturday, yeah.
• 1:26:14
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, you can't do I don't mind your late afternoon allocation drops, which is five, six o'clock because people get off work or whatever.
• 1:26:22
SPEAKER_13: But it doesn't matter if people who work third shifts start complaining when that happens.
• 1:26:26
  SPEAKER_13: I mean, it's just unbelievable.
• 1:26:27
SPEAKER_13: You're always gonna get some complaints, but I like those drops.
• 1:26:30
SPEAKER_13: But Saturday is like I don't care who you are, if you if you really love bourbon and you want to get off on a Saturday, even if you do work Saturdays, you can get off on a Saturday.
• 1:26:41
SPEAKER_13: You know what I mean?
• 1:26:42
SPEAKER_13: But um my idea is that OHLQ do a do a uh a coin a tasting coin.
• 1:26:52
  SPEAKER_13: They have a coin.
• 1:26:53
SPEAKER_13: You have a coin that when you purchase on single barrel Saturday, it's like a special coin that you get with purchase.
• 1:27:02
  SPEAKER_13: That would be cool.
• 1:27:03
SPEAKER_13: And then you could then they could be collector coins, and everybody would always be like, they'd start collecting the coins.
• 1:27:09
SPEAKER_13: It would be like almost like um uh the toppers on uh you know on uh Blantons.
• 1:27:18
SPEAKER_06: Man, we should have started that four years ago.
• 1:27:21
  SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
• 1:27:22
  SPEAKER_06: So on that collector.
• 1:27:24
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, I was happy.
• 1:27:26
SPEAKER_13: I still drink out of the OHLQ mug I got the the sil the silver coffee mug I got on single barrel Saturday.
• 1:27:32
SPEAKER_13: That one, but if you'd have a collector coin that everybody would purchase at each whatever for the first whatever people, uh that would be pretty cool, and then it would be collectible throughout.
• 1:27:46
SPEAKER_06: That is a great idea that we should have started four years ago, but maybe we should start it.
• 1:27:53
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, that would be cool.
• 1:27:55
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I love it.
• 1:27:56
SPEAKER_06: You guys have been so much fun.
• 1:27:59
  SPEAKER_13: All right.
• 1:28:00
SPEAKER_06: I have spreadsheets to work on, so okay, yes.
• 1:28:04
SPEAKER_13: All right, so let's look.
• 1:28:06
SPEAKER_13: I'm just let uh since before you go, I'll just end it on the audio so you could have covered the complete audio, but you can go now because the we're not gonna be talking anymore.
• 1:28:18
SPEAKER_06: So we appreciate an after show, like open.
• 1:28:21
SPEAKER_13: We we do have an after show.
• 1:28:24
SPEAKER_13: The uh we cut off the audio and then we do have people.
• 1:28:27
SPEAKER_13: I just put out the thing on Facebook, and people can come join us.
• 1:28:31
  SPEAKER_06: That's perfect.
• 1:28:32
  SPEAKER_06: So Thanksgiving Saturday.
• 1:28:35
SPEAKER_06: Uh subscribe to email, it will be announced Saturday morning.
• 1:28:40
SPEAKER_06: And then also, if you have the OHLQ mobile app and you enable push notifications, push notifications go out the same time as email.
• 1:28:51
SPEAKER_06: But fun fact, push notifications hit more people faster than email sends because when you have 200,000 email subscribers, it takes about 20 minutes from start to finish.
• 1:29:06
SPEAKER_06: So get the OHLQ mobile app, sign up for push notifications.
• 1:29:11
SPEAKER_06: You'll be the first to get the locations and then see where everything is available.
• 1:29:17
SPEAKER_06: Every store is gonna have a different set of products, and Saturday is going to be amazing, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.
• 1:29:28
  SPEAKER_13: That's awesome.
• 1:29:30
SPEAKER_13: Thank you so much, Ann.
• 1:29:31
SPEAKER_13: Thank you for being on tonight.
• 1:29:32
  SPEAKER_13: I appreciate it.
• 1:29:33
SPEAKER_09: And thanks for answering our questions to the absolute best of your ability and politically.
• 1:29:41
SPEAKER_06: It's not political, it's because it's because I look at these distilleries and you get to know people over years, and even before I worked here for Ohio Liquor, and the distilleries that we work with are fantastic people, and it's like it's picking between is that person more your friend, or is that person more your friend?
• 1:30:04
SPEAKER_08: Like picking your favorite kid.
• 1:30:05
SPEAKER_08: Like, how are you gonna do that?
• 1:30:06
  SPEAKER_08: Exactly.
• 1:30:07
  SPEAKER_08: Exactly.
• 1:30:07
SPEAKER_08: Oh, I hey, I have no problem picking my favorite kid.
• 1:30:13
SPEAKER_06: I understand, I understand, but but this lineup this year is so fantastic, and there's every it's like banger after banger.
• 1:30:22
SPEAKER_06: So it's like all your favorite people together.
• 1:30:26
  SPEAKER_06: It's amazing.
• 1:30:27
SPEAKER_06: I'm really excited for Saturday.
• 1:30:28
SPEAKER_06: I'm really excited for the next two days.
• 1:30:32
SPEAKER_13: So it's gonna be, yeah, everybody look forward to that.
• 1:30:37
SPEAKER_00: Um thank you for everything you do.
• 1:30:42
  SPEAKER_13: Yes, for sure.
• 1:30:43
  SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
• 1:30:44
SPEAKER_06: Thank you for everything you do.
• 1:30:47
SPEAKER_13: All right, I'm gonna see you guys three.
• 1:30:49
  SPEAKER_13: Bye, Ann.
• 1:30:50
  SPEAKER_13: All right, bye.
• 1:30:51
  SPEAKER_13: Bye, Ann.
• 1:30:52
  SPEAKER_13: Bye.
• 1:30:54
  SPEAKER_13: Oh my gosh.
• 1:30:56
  SPEAKER_13: There we go.
• 1:30:57
SPEAKER_13: That was the the endemic uh delivered once again.
• 1:31:01
SPEAKER_13: It's great to have her on.
• 1:31:02
SPEAKER_13: Um, thanks for coming on, Matt.
• 1:31:04
SPEAKER_13: Uh, I really appreciate you coming on tonight.
• 1:31:07
SPEAKER_13: Uh CT, same thing here.
• 1:31:10
  SPEAKER_13: Oh, where I put, I can't believe how I can.
• 1:31:14
SPEAKER_13: How did I lose that?
• 1:31:16
SPEAKER_13: It must be, I know how I lost it.
• 1:31:19
  SPEAKER_13: It's not lost.
• 1:31:21
SPEAKER_09: So, Matt, do you think we're still gonna see some makers mark picks or because usually we do.
• 1:31:28
  SPEAKER_09: What do you think?
• 1:31:29
  SPEAKER_00: My opinion on that.
• 1:31:30
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think we're gonna get a three bottle release in December.
• 1:31:34
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 1:31:34
SPEAKER_00: I think it's gonna be a Christmas thing, and they're gonna have three.
• 1:31:38
SPEAKER_00: And I don't know any of this since it's just a guest, because of what's happened in the last couple years.
• 1:31:43
  SPEAKER_00: I think.
• 1:31:43
  SPEAKER_00: That's what's gonna happen with him.
• 1:31:45
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, they they always do they do it in December anyways because the 12th is when Nash usually comes up, and when he comes up that week of that that second week of December, there's always the picks were released throughout the the they they got released started Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, whatever.
• 1:32:03
SPEAKER_13: So he's picked up a bunch of of that, you know, uh through that second week of December.
• 1:32:10
SPEAKER_00: But um because it went from it went from six down to five, and then it went from five down to three.
• 1:32:17
SPEAKER_00: And I think they're gonna stick with the three because I think they had so many before that they were on the shelves for a long time, and they went to three, and three really worked because they were all gone within weeks and I couldn't find them after that.
• 1:32:28
SPEAKER_13: I loved five because if they were on the shelves, my giant eagle at Washington Square always got them from other stores because they can sell makers mark like that.
• 1:32:42
SPEAKER_13: So they would just get the extra ones.
• 1:32:45
SPEAKER_13: Like first, the release would be there, and there'd just be one of the five, and then all of a sudden, three of the five would be on the shelves like three weeks later.
• 1:32:53
SPEAKER_13: So it was that was working for me.
• 1:32:55
SPEAKER_13: But at the same time, this year, skip Ohio's release of Maker's Mark and go with the Scotchy bourbon boys.
• 1:33:04
SPEAKER_13: That's the one to go through.
• 1:33:05
SPEAKER_13: Picked in the dark is is the one.
• 1:33:09
SPEAKER_13: But you can buy all of them, too.
• 1:33:13
SPEAKER_00: What a couple people picking those up from you when you come down on Thursday to see uh Nash and Walker.
• 1:33:20
SPEAKER_13: Yep, that's gonna be a fun time.
• 1:33:22
SPEAKER_13: A Christmas party coming up.
• 1:33:24
  SPEAKER_13: Uh it's super nice.
• 1:33:28
  SPEAKER_02: How are you?
• 1:33:30
  SPEAKER_00: There you go.
• 1:33:33
SPEAKER_00: All right, Chris, are you making it up with us in December?
• 1:33:39
  SPEAKER_00: You what?
• 1:33:42
  SPEAKER_00: Are you is Chris?
• 1:33:43
SPEAKER_00: Are you making it up with us in December?
• 1:33:45
SPEAKER_09: I'll I'll be up for the Christmas party, but I gotta get back early Saturday.
• 1:33:50
SPEAKER_13: So yeah, he won't be up there on Thursday.
• 1:33:54
SPEAKER_00: That Thursday, we're going down.
• 1:33:56
SPEAKER_00: I got a couple things planned for us if you want to join us.
• 1:33:58
  SPEAKER_00: You're more than welcome.
• 1:33:59
  SPEAKER_00: What's Thursday?
• 1:34:01
  SPEAKER_10: Tell him.
• 1:34:02
SPEAKER_10: Um Thursday is when Super Nash and Mrs.
• 1:34:06
  SPEAKER_13: Supernash come to town.
• 1:34:07
  SPEAKER_13: And Walker.
• 1:34:08
SPEAKER_13: Walker's coming to town, and we're all meeting at Matt's, and he's got like this whole thing planned for us.
• 1:34:15
  SPEAKER_13: Hi, darling.
• 1:34:16
SPEAKER_10: We're drinking out of barrels.
• 1:34:18
  SPEAKER_09: All right.
• 1:34:19
SPEAKER_09: Well, send me uh send me a message to remind the kids.
• 1:34:22
SPEAKER_09: I'll see if I can come up Thursday because I have more time Thursday and Friday than I do Saturday.
• 1:34:26
SPEAKER_09: I gotta be back early Saturday.
• 1:34:28
  SPEAKER_09: Awesome.
• 1:34:29
SPEAKER_13: So we we are headed to down.
• 1:34:31
SPEAKER_13: You can do you yeah, we're headed down Saturday morning.
• 1:34:34
SPEAKER_13: We uh we have to be at Maker's Mark at 2 30.
• 1:34:39
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, because me and Roxy are doing the um I should get this.
• 1:34:45
SPEAKER_13: Let me we are doing the uh four gold.
• 1:34:50
SPEAKER_13: I couldn't, it's only two people for the golden ticket.
• 1:34:54
SPEAKER_13: You gotta do the regular tour.
• 1:34:56
SPEAKER_10: I thought you said four.
• 1:34:57
SPEAKER_13: No, I tried, but they only allow two.
• 1:35:01
  unknown: Retired.
• 1:35:03
SPEAKER_13: Tell Sherry to like figure out what hang out with Roxy, and then they could me and you could go on the golden ticket.
• 1:35:10
  SPEAKER_03: I don't think so.
• 1:35:12
  SPEAKER_13: Oh my god.
• 1:35:13
SPEAKER_10: I can't believe you said that right in front of her.
• 1:35:19
SPEAKER_14: How about me and Sherry can go on YouTube?
• 1:35:22
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, you and Sherry go on my dime.
• 1:35:25
  SPEAKER_13: That's fine.
• 1:35:27
SPEAKER_10: Anyways, give her Andrew some cash, like I'll do, like I'll do Sherry.
• 1:35:33
SPEAKER_10: It will make it work.
• 1:35:35
SPEAKER_14: Excuse me, I'm the one with the cash.
• 1:35:37
  SPEAKER_11: She makes oh god.
• 1:35:41
  SPEAKER_11: She doesn't make shit.
• 1:35:43
SPEAKER_11: Oh load it load load him some money.
• 1:35:47
  SPEAKER_13: 40 40 years 40 40 years of paying all the bills.
• 1:35:53
SPEAKER_13: Now she makes money, and now I uh I don't make shit.
• 1:35:58
SPEAKER_13: I still pay the bills.
• 1:36:00
SPEAKER_13: Hers is just fucking disposable income.
• 1:36:04
  SPEAKER_14: Your disposable income.
• 1:36:08
  SPEAKER_10: Just just wait.
• 1:36:10
SPEAKER_10: I'll I'll make her an extra special Christmas gift.
• 1:36:14
SPEAKER_10: And she'll she'll be so heart heartwarm.
• 1:36:18
SPEAKER_10: Please, please take my husband on the on that tour with you.
• 1:36:23
SPEAKER_13: So CT, want a quick do of like the a five second of this uh honey barrel, honey barrel uh starlight, because we're still live.
• 1:36:37
  SPEAKER_14: Oh, you're still live?
• 1:36:39
  SPEAKER_14: Oh, sorry, folks.
• 1:36:40
SPEAKER_13: Wharton, what are you sorry about?
• 1:36:42
SPEAKER_13: Roxy, Roxy's why is that a sorry?
• 1:36:46
  SPEAKER_13: All right, guys.
• 1:36:47
SPEAKER_13: We got the old Louisville barrel bottle breakdown of an OHLQ pick from last year.
• 1:36:54
  SPEAKER_13: Would you like some?
• 1:36:56
SPEAKER_14: I have been awake since today at seven in the morning.
• 1:37:01
SPEAKER_13: Well, we'll get Roxy some too, right here.
• 1:37:04
SPEAKER_13: We're gonna do it fast because there you go, in a Middle West Spirits uh Glen.
• 1:37:11
  SPEAKER_13: What the hell?
• 1:37:12
  SPEAKER_13: There, yeah, that's there.
• 1:37:13
SPEAKER_13: All right, the but the barrel, uh the old the old Louisville whiskey company barrel bottle breakdown uh scale is based off of four different category categories nose, the nose, body, taste.
• 1:37:28
SPEAKER_13: You're you gotta and then and then each category, the nose and the body are worth four, and the taste is worth and the finish is worth five.
• 1:37:40
SPEAKER_13: You're gonna be in on this, so get ready.
• 1:37:42
SPEAKER_13: And then if you like a category, it's an extra but up up.
• 1:37:46
  SPEAKER_13: So soup.
• 1:37:47
SPEAKER_13: So what do you think of the nose?
• 1:37:48
  SPEAKER_13: We're doing this quick.
• 1:37:49
SPEAKER_13: It's this is the condensed version.
• 1:37:51
SPEAKER_13: This is an OHLQ pick from 2020.
• 1:37:56
SPEAKER_12: This bottle was these these these barrels.
• 1:37:59
SPEAKER_14: It smells like a cigar.
• 1:38:01
SPEAKER_12: No, it smells like honey.
• 1:38:03
SPEAKER_14: Smells like a cigar to me.
• 1:38:06
  SPEAKER_13: What's your nose?
• 1:38:08
  SPEAKER_13: What's the nose on yours there, C T?
• 1:38:12
SPEAKER_10: Why are you smelling my cigar?
• 1:38:18
  SPEAKER_13: She's a cousin of Monica Lewinsky.
• 1:38:21
  SPEAKER_13: Smell evasion.
• 1:38:24
  SPEAKER_08: It's it's wolf evasion.
• 1:38:26
SPEAKER_08: What are you talking about?
• 1:38:36
  SPEAKER_14: How old is this?
• 1:38:40
  SPEAKER_11: It's from last year.
• 1:38:43
  SPEAKER_09: It's a six-year.
• 1:38:51
SPEAKER_12: I think this makes its strong point, is the finish.
• 1:38:55
SPEAKER_10: Because once that honey honey hits.
• 1:38:59
SPEAKER_08: And Rachel's not wrong on the nose, it's more of a smoky, smoky, smoky, smoky.
• 1:39:07
SPEAKER_13: But there's a sweetness on there that I'm trying to you know what?
• 1:39:11
SPEAKER_13: It smells like freaking bitto honey to me.
• 1:39:15
SPEAKER_13: Like the bitter honey, that little bit of that is gonna eliminate of a filling from my tooth.
• 1:39:23
SPEAKER_13: The last piece of bitto honey I had, I basically was was chewing on it and my wisdom teeth broke, and I basically chewed up my wisdom tooth and ate it.
• 1:39:37
  SPEAKER_13: Oh, I remember that.
• 1:39:38
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, that's a bit of honey, and I haven't touched it since.
• 1:39:44
SPEAKER_00: So Prince, I figured out when your camera zooms on you and doesn't.
• 1:39:48
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 1:39:49
SPEAKER_00: When you're looking at the camera, it zoomed in on you.
• 1:39:52
SPEAKER_00: And when you look away, it goes like that.
• 1:39:54
  SPEAKER_00: Way out there.
• 1:39:55
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 1:40:04
SPEAKER_13: I can't wait to get that feature.
• 1:40:07
SPEAKER_13: It's gonna be here any day.
• 1:40:09
SPEAKER_13: When did you get your 17?
• 1:40:11
SPEAKER_14: Looks like he should be in a commercial.
• 1:40:13
SPEAKER_13: Yeah, he's in a yeah, he's yeah, yeah, a commercial for Kavassier.
• 1:40:22
  SPEAKER_13: He's the ladies' man.
• 1:40:24
  SPEAKER_09: Look at that.
• 1:40:27
SPEAKER_09: What Nash needs a cool hat, like a like a cigar smoking hat, not like your hat.
• 1:40:34
  SPEAKER_10: Oh, I know.
• 1:40:35
SPEAKER_10: Almost like a derby, like a derby or something.
• 1:40:38
SPEAKER_10: All right, a brown derby hat.
• 1:40:40
  SPEAKER_13: So I got I got it.
• 1:40:41
SPEAKER_13: So what do you give the nose, guys?
• 1:40:42
SPEAKER_13: What do you give the nose?
• 1:40:46
  SPEAKER_10: Here we go.
• 1:40:51
SPEAKER_13: Here he goes, the first ever 20 barrel knocks.
• 1:41:00
SPEAKER_10: Oh with the 20 barrel on the table.
• 1:41:05
SPEAKER_13: So that was the keyboard going flying.
• 1:41:11
SPEAKER_13: All right, so what do you give it?
• 1:41:13
SPEAKER_13: What do you give the nose?
• 1:41:16
SPEAKER_13: What do you give the nose?
• 1:41:18
SPEAKER_00: I really like this nose.
• 1:41:20
SPEAKER_00: Wait until Chris's camera zoomed in.
• 1:41:22
SPEAKER_00: He's gonna have something to say when he picks his head up.
• 1:41:24
  SPEAKER_00: There it is.
• 1:41:24
  SPEAKER_00: That was perfect.
• 1:41:26
  SPEAKER_00: Look at Chris's nose.
• 1:41:29
  SPEAKER_00: Yep, it's up.
• 1:41:30
  SPEAKER_00: He's he's fucking within.
• 1:41:47
  SPEAKER_11: He's the most dignified.
• 1:41:53
SPEAKER_08: Well, the problem is I got the dog running around, so I'm constantly looking at the dog.
• 1:41:58
SPEAKER_14: So he's going here and there, and you're very look like you have Mickey Mouse ears.
• 1:42:05
SPEAKER_08: Let's do it right here.
• 1:42:05
SPEAKER_11: Let's do it like this.
• 1:42:08
  SPEAKER_11: That's awesome, actually.
• 1:42:11
SPEAKER_11: Now it adjusted up and down.
• 1:42:13
SPEAKER_11: It's looking at your hey, give a no.
• 1:42:18
SPEAKER_13: Try a no because it's giving it up and up.
• 1:42:21
SPEAKER_13: It gives you up and up.
• 1:42:24
SPEAKER_13: So move side to side like this.
• 1:42:27
SPEAKER_13: Do a side to side.
• 1:42:34
SPEAKER_10: The camera is zooming on his eyes.
• 1:42:36
  SPEAKER_13: You're owning it.
• 1:42:37
  SPEAKER_13: You're owning it, Chris.
• 1:42:39
SPEAKER_13: That's owning the camera right there.
• 1:42:41
SPEAKER_13: So what do you give the nose?
• 1:42:42

  SPEAKER_14: It's very weak.
• 1:43:14
SPEAKER_14: It really doesn't hit your no, it only stays on your tongue.
• 1:43:17
SPEAKER_13: What's the proof on this?
• 1:43:20
  SPEAKER_13: 116.7.
• 1:43:22
  SPEAKER_14: That's a 116.7.
• 1:43:25

  SPEAKER_13: Mine's 115.7.
• 1:43:49
  SPEAKER_02: Who's eating that?
• 1:43:50
SPEAKER_12: So yeah, we have different ones.
• 1:43:51
SPEAKER_12: If you fresh that menu, what are we listening to in the background?

  SPEAKER_10: Raiders.
• 1:44:05
SPEAKER_13: What are the Raiders doing?
• 1:44:06
  SPEAKER_13: Beating them?
• 1:44:07
  SPEAKER_14: Can we get this?
• 1:44:08
SPEAKER_14: Can we move on, please?
• 1:44:09
  SPEAKER_10: I need food.

• 1:44:15
  SPEAKER_02: Rookie of the early.
• 1:44:16
  SPEAKER_10: Yeah, okay.
• 1:44:17
  SPEAKER_10: Body.
• 1:44:17
  SPEAKER_10: I got you.
• 1:44:21
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:44:23
SPEAKER_13: We don't want to mute Nash.
• 1:44:25
  SPEAKER_13: We just want to.
• 1:44:26
SPEAKER_14: I give the body a one because it's only on one thing, the tip of my tongue.
• 1:44:34
SPEAKER_13: That is so many things I could say to that.
• 1:44:42
  SPEAKER_10: All right, CT.
• 1:44:48
  SPEAKER_10: Three on the body.
• 1:44:52
  SPEAKER_13: Did y'all hear that?
• 1:44:53
  SPEAKER_13: All right.
• 1:44:54
  SPEAKER_13: I will do.
• 1:44:58
  SPEAKER_13: It's pretty.
• 1:44:58
  SPEAKER_13: I mean, I will go.
• 1:45:02
  SPEAKER_13: I'll go.
• 1:45:04
SPEAKER_13: I'm gonna go in the middle, too.
• 1:45:10
  SPEAKER_13: I I I it doesn't hit the cheeks at all.
• 1:45:15
SPEAKER_13: All right, so now we're on taste.
• 1:45:18
SPEAKER_13: That she went you went you go first to GT on taste.
• 1:45:29
SPEAKER_13: Give it up to a five.
• 1:45:37
  SPEAKER_10: He looks up.
• 1:45:39
  SPEAKER_10: Zooms in.
• 1:45:40
SPEAKER_11: Can you see can you see it doing that?
• 1:45:44
  SPEAKER_11: Hold on, I'm ready.
• 1:45:46
SPEAKER_11: It was it was so it's like thinking about it.
• 1:45:50
  SPEAKER_11: Look at him.
• 1:45:51
  SPEAKER_11: He's thinking about it.
• 1:45:51
  SPEAKER_13: Now watch.
• 1:45:53
SPEAKER_13: Oh, four for a taste.
• 1:45:56
  SPEAKER_13: Four out of five.
• 1:45:58
SPEAKER_14: You're not gonna like what I have to say.
• 1:46:00
  SPEAKER_12: It's okay.
• 1:46:01
SPEAKER_12: Say what you're gonna say because you're you.
• 1:46:05
SPEAKER_12: You weren't even supposed to be here.
• 1:46:07
  SPEAKER_14: It's bitter.
• 1:46:11
  SPEAKER_12: Bitter honey?
• 1:46:12
  SPEAKER_14: No, it's just bitter.
• 1:46:14
  SPEAKER_12: Bitter honey.
• 1:46:15
SPEAKER_00: Honey that don't taste like green peppers.
• 1:46:17
SPEAKER_14: Does it taste like funky?
• 1:46:19
SPEAKER_13: Does it taste like gall?
• 1:46:20
  SPEAKER_14: It's funky.
• 1:46:21
  SPEAKER_10: She said funky.
• 1:46:23
  SPEAKER_14: It's funky.
• 1:46:24
SPEAKER_14: I thought she said funky.
• 1:46:30
SPEAKER_14: I do taste the honey, but that's on the finish, so that's not the taste.
• 1:46:37
SPEAKER_14: It's funky and bitter to me and kind of tastes like I licked an ashtray.
• 1:46:41
SPEAKER_14: So I give it because it, you know, was Are you writing this down, Nat?
• 1:46:47
SPEAKER_14: Because it was complexly sleek.
• 1:46:50
SPEAKER_10: If you don't keep messing with me.
• 1:46:52
SPEAKER_14: Because it was a horrible complex of flavors, I'll give it a two just because it gets the Rotten Tomatoes award.
• 1:47:03
SPEAKER_13: She's not in the right state of mind, but that's obvious.
• 1:47:08
  SPEAKER_13: Alright.
• 1:47:09
SPEAKER_13: I love I think the honey, it tastes like honey tea to me.
• 1:47:13
SPEAKER_13: I would like to put this in like a hot toddy where you put it in there and then you add some lemon and you add a little bit more honey, and it would be amazing.
• 1:47:23
SPEAKER_13: But sounds like cough syrup.
• 1:47:26
  SPEAKER_14: Yeah, it's massive.
• 1:47:27
  SPEAKER_14: It's bitter.
• 1:47:30
SPEAKER_13: But it tastes like a honey graham cracker and the with the uh jalapeno pepper.
• 1:47:38
SPEAKER_14: Have you lost your mind?
• 1:47:40
SPEAKER_13: Honey graham your your palate's out all obviously you've what's what's your line of profession has tainted your palate today.
• 1:47:49
SPEAKER_13: So I will give it a I will concur.
• 1:47:52
SPEAKER_14: Is that even a sentence that's cohesive?
• 1:47:54
  SPEAKER_11: I will concur, CT4.
• 1:47:58
SPEAKER_14: You guys are out here rapper.
• 1:48:01
  SPEAKER_11: Oh my gosh.
• 1:48:02
  SPEAKER_11: I picked this barrel.
• 1:48:04
  SPEAKER_11: All right.
• 1:48:05
SPEAKER_11: This is the best barrel review ever.
• 1:48:08
SPEAKER_11: We're supposed to be quick.
• 1:48:09
SPEAKER_11: We're supposed to be quick to end the podcast, and CT is doing like showmanship professional time.
• 1:48:19
  SPEAKER_11: It's like, wait a second.
• 1:48:22
SPEAKER_13: And then all of a sudden, zoom in.
• 1:48:26
SPEAKER_13: All right, so it's me on the on on the final, on the finish.
• 1:48:30
SPEAKER_13: The strongest part about this is the finish.
• 1:48:33
SPEAKER_13: Tons of honey, a little bit of that um jalapeno pepper, but it's long and it never goes away.
• 1:48:42
SPEAKER_13: And if I if I went upstairs to go to bed right now and this and I had this taste in my mouth, I would be happy.
• 1:48:49
SPEAKER_13: So I actually think it's the strongest part.
• 1:48:51
SPEAKER_13: I will give the finish a five.
• 1:48:59
  SPEAKER_13: Okay, Mr.
• 1:49:01
  SPEAKER_13: Um for the camera.
• 1:49:08
  SPEAKER_11: What is going on?
• 1:49:11
  SPEAKER_11: Did you see him?
• 1:49:14
SPEAKER_11: He just makes the camera zoom.
• 1:49:17
  SPEAKER_11: It's like a nisso.
• 1:49:18
SPEAKER_11: Now you gotta do it again just for a time.
• 1:49:21
  SPEAKER_13: Watch, watch, watch.
• 1:49:22
  SPEAKER_13: Here we go.
• 1:49:23
  SPEAKER_13: Here's the zooms out.
• 1:49:24
  SPEAKER_13: Watch out, watch.
• 1:49:30
SPEAKER_00: All of your reviews have to have that teacher in an hour and I'll watch it in one.
• 1:49:35
  SPEAKER_13: All right, Roxy.
• 1:49:38
SPEAKER_13: If you survive after 36 hours of being up, if you survive this, what what do you think about the finish?
• 1:49:45
SPEAKER_14: So the finish is extremely long and it's sweeter, and I do taste the honey, and it's very pleasant.
• 1:49:53
SPEAKER_14: So I can't give it more than a three because of how bad all the other ones were.
• 1:49:58
SPEAKER_13: No, you nope, that's not how it works.
• 1:50:01
SPEAKER_14: That's how it works in my brain.
• 1:50:03
SPEAKER_13: She gives it a three.
• 1:50:06
  SPEAKER_13: I back off.
• 1:50:07
  SPEAKER_13: I concur.
• 1:50:08
  SPEAKER_13: There's no three-quarters pound.
• 1:50:11
  SPEAKER_14: Three, I give it a three.
• 1:50:16
  SPEAKER_10: All right.
• 1:50:27
  SPEAKER_10: It's like a twelve point two.
• 1:50:28
SPEAKER_10: What it what did what did I give it?
• 1:50:34
SPEAKER_10: I mean what it I ain't got your exact totals.
• 1:50:38
SPEAKER_10: I kept the whole total in my head.
• 1:50:42
  SPEAKER_10: I wasn't writing this down.
• 1:50:44
  SPEAKER_13: I I I I know what I let's just see.
• 1:50:48
  SPEAKER_13: Five.
• 1:50:51
  SPEAKER_13: Four.
• 1:50:53
SPEAKER_10: A five, four, three, two.
• 1:50:57
  SPEAKER_13: So five.
• 1:50:59
SPEAKER_14: Yeah, twelve, right around the and nine.
• 1:51:02
  SPEAKER_13: So I gave it a fourteen.
• 1:51:05
SPEAKER_13: And what did you give it, CT?
• 1:51:08
SPEAKER_13: Did you give it a thirteen or a fourteen?
• 1:51:13
SPEAKER_13: I gave you the total of all three of y'all.
• 1:51:15
SPEAKER_08: Well, it's good to get to know.
• 1:51:18
  SPEAKER_08: Look up.

• 1:51:32
SPEAKER_13: Okay, and then Roxy, she so is a 12.333.
• 1:51:39
  SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
• 1:51:40
  SPEAKER_13: Okay.
• 1:51:41
  SPEAKER_13: So a 12.33 out of 18.
• 1:51:45
SPEAKER_13: So that is 3.33 above average.
• 1:51:52
