Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, it's Adam Kaplan here for Inside the Birds.
- 0:12Speaker 1: We're doing a series here where we're gonna break down
- 0:14Speaker 1: every single NFL division. Oh wait, get started here with
- 0:21Speaker 1: the NFC is kind of what they look like now
- 0:23Speaker 1: that we're in the second week of free agency, when
- 0:25Speaker 1: bargains can be had. It's my old friend Bill Pollie
- 0:29Speaker 1: in the Hall of Fame. General Mancher told me many
- 0:30Speaker 1: years ago, the first few days are you, me and
- 0:33Speaker 1: Marcus Prices. Second week you get Filing's basement. For Filing's
- 0:37Speaker 1: basement people, if you don't know what that is, that
- 0:39Speaker 1: was an old department store where you can get some
- 0:41Speaker 1: great bargains. Hence Filing's Basement, which was out east probably
- 0:46Speaker 1: in Massachusetts, which.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I was bought.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We have I live in Philly at Philly Area. We
- 0:50Speaker 1: have them ount here before they closed. But so teams
- 0:53Speaker 1: can get bargains. And let's get started with a team
- 0:56Speaker 1: that's probably gonna look for some bargains.
- 0:57Speaker 2: That's the Dallas Cowboys. Now. Offensively, what's interesting.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Is they've kind of indicated that they still would like
- 1:06Speaker 1: to extend George Pikett's contract, who's on the franchise tag
- 1:11Speaker 1: finding a contract that works for them, and the player's
- 1:15Speaker 1: going to be interesting because they've got by the way
- 1:17Speaker 1: off the tag till July fifteenth of getting extension when
- 1:20Speaker 1: he plays on the tag. But let's not forget right.
- 1:25Speaker 1: The Steelers didn't want him. They do not want him back.
- 1:28Speaker 1: That's why they moved him. The Cowboys were very excited
- 1:33Speaker 1: to get him. He had I mean last season, he
- 1:36Speaker 1: had some incredible games, had a great year statistically, but
- 1:41Speaker 1: there are a couple of games where he just didn't
- 1:44Speaker 1: show up. And that's the concern is how do you
- 1:48Speaker 1: get him to play game in and game out every
- 1:50Speaker 1: single game bring it? And that's the issue with him.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Extremely talented guy. I mean he's only twenty five years old.
- 2:00Speaker 1: The tag number is just over twenty seven million, it's
- 2:03Speaker 1: fully guaranteed its signing.
- 2:05Speaker 2: The thing is you can't.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It's that the cash number is the cap number, so
- 2:08Speaker 1: there's nothing you could do with it. Teams don't they're happy,
- 2:12Speaker 1: not happy. They'll use the tag when they need to,
- 2:14Speaker 1: but they don't like the player playing on the tag
- 2:16Speaker 1: if they could help it, because it can't be massaged,
- 2:19Speaker 1: the player would have to agree. If to to do
- 2:22Speaker 1: anything to it, the player would have to agree to it,
- 2:25Speaker 1: but again he's gonna get He's gonna make a minimum
- 2:28Speaker 1: of just about twenty seven point three million.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Now, when you look at the Cowboys.
- 2:32Speaker 1: You know, when I first started covering the league in
- 2:34Speaker 1: the early two thousands, they were a big free agency team.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Jerry Jones went crazy for it, like Daniel Snuder used
- 2:40Speaker 1: to when he was the owner of the then Redskins.
- 2:43Speaker 1: But what I like about the Cowboys here with Will McLay,
- 2:47Speaker 1: who's their personnel director. And I know Jerry is the
- 2:49Speaker 1: general manager, he's the owner. He has personnel control. But
- 2:53Speaker 1: they like to draft and develop. Now offensively, if you
- 2:57Speaker 1: look at what they've done lately. The Javonte Williams sign
- 3:00Speaker 1: turned out to be terrific. You could wonder, like calling
- 3:04Speaker 1: in the last season, did he have anything left because
- 3:06Speaker 1: when he had the multi ligament knee injury with the Broncos,
- 3:09Speaker 1: he was never the same, became more of a power back.
- 3:14Speaker 1: But I'll tell you what, he had a great season.
- 3:17Speaker 1: He's back with the Cowboys three years, twenty four million.
- 3:19Speaker 1: They fully guaranteed two years at signing. If he doesn't
- 3:23Speaker 1: play well for two years, they just won't They won't
- 3:25Speaker 1: keep him. There's no guaranteed money in year three, But
- 3:29Speaker 1: this is a good move for the Cowboys. They got
- 3:31Speaker 1: him back at a good number at eight million a year.
- 3:34Speaker 1: He had a great season. What they're trying to do
- 3:36Speaker 1: is get Jaydon Blue to be a factor, super explosive.
- 3:40Speaker 1: There were maturity maturity issues with him coming out of
- 3:44Speaker 1: University of Texas, That's why he dropped. But he's got explosiveness.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Not the biggest guy in the world in Elie Davis,
- 3:50Speaker 1: the undirected free agent in twenty twenty two, is still there,
- 3:53Speaker 1: but it's all about Williams. Unbelievable around the goal line,
- 3:57Speaker 1: scored a ton of touchdowns. What they have to do
- 4:00Speaker 1: here is kinda in the passing game because everyone's pretty
- 4:04Speaker 1: much back pickens lamb Flinoy, who's a good story who's
- 4:10Speaker 1: now in his third year. Mingo has really not done
- 4:12Speaker 1: anything for them. That trade has not worked out. Cavante
- 4:15Speaker 1: Turpin has been a good story of development. Just continue
- 4:19Speaker 1: depending on how they want to do this. With Brian
- 4:22Speaker 1: Schottenhammer back as the head coach and it's his offense,
- 4:28Speaker 1: will they expand it a little bit in year two
- 4:31Speaker 1: because when he was with the Seahawks in twenty twenty.
- 4:35Speaker 1: He came up with let Russ Cook, a ton of eleven personnel,
- 4:39Speaker 1: very aggressive coming off throw in the football. The problem
- 4:42Speaker 1: with the Cowboys obviously was not offense last season, it
- 4:45Speaker 1: was defense and Christian Parker. Now as we transition to
- 4:48Speaker 1: their defense as their defense coordinator, first time play caller,
- 4:51Speaker 1: Vic Fangio protege, they're gonna run Fangio, which is a
- 4:53Speaker 1: thirty four front, two overhangs. Rashan Gary will be one
- 4:57Speaker 1: of their edges who could be moved around in nickel
- 4:59Speaker 1: if you want him to, if you've got enough personnel. Unfortunately,
- 5:02Speaker 1: Donovan Azraku had hip labor surgery. He'll be out for
- 5:05Speaker 1: a while. Sam Williams is back on a one year deal.
- 5:08Speaker 1: They need more edges. They probably need to add too,
- 5:10Speaker 1: not probably, they need to add two and Kenny Clark.
- 5:15Speaker 1: You got Quinn Williams. They need depth ofy tackle. Remember
- 5:17Speaker 1: they traded we said Diggi Zua to the Niners. There
- 5:21Speaker 1: was a question of fit because you want size up
- 5:24Speaker 1: front if you could help it. And then looking at
- 5:27Speaker 1: their secondary, they don't have a number one corner. Land's
- 5:29Speaker 1: a nice player. Some people are in the lake. They
- 5:32Speaker 1: can be better as a nickel. Kobe Durant, who's very competitive,
- 5:34Speaker 1: comes over from the Rams. Calen Carson's back rebels in
- 5:40Speaker 1: his first full season. Remember he's come back from the
- 5:42Speaker 1: ACL injury from college. They still need a number one corner.
- 5:46Speaker 1: They have enough corners right now, but they need a
- 5:48Speaker 1: number one corner. Safety Hooker had his contract renegotiated. The
- 5:52Speaker 1: very underrated Jalen Thompson comes over for the Cardinals. I
- 5:57Speaker 1: like this sign a good football player, very underrated years
- 6:00Speaker 1: thirty three million. He too, got two years fully guaranteed.
- 6:04Speaker 1: This guy's is just a really solid football player and
- 6:07Speaker 1: he's he's got plenty of left in the tank. See
- 6:11Speaker 1: Christian Parker is a really smart coach, but this is
- 6:14Speaker 1: his first year calling plays. They're very weakened inside backer
- 6:19Speaker 1: and the local reporting and we knew this was going
- 6:22Speaker 1: to happen here and inside birds that they were going
- 6:24Speaker 1: to come after Nakobe Dean, but he chose to take
- 6:27Speaker 1: a similar deal with the Raiders, and they're stuck at
- 6:31Speaker 1: at inside backers. So they still have a lot of
- 6:32Speaker 1: work to do. We're only in mid March. We just
- 6:35Speaker 1: passed the midway point, so they got a lot of
- 6:38Speaker 1: work to do. Offensive line wise, everyone's back. Terrence Steele
- 6:42Speaker 1: had his contract renegotiated. It's just what are they going
- 6:45Speaker 1: to be on defense? Cowboys fans have to be patient.
- 6:48Speaker 1: They're not done by a long shot. They've got a
- 6:50Speaker 1: lot of work to do. But there's some upside with
- 6:52Speaker 1: his defense. But they still have a lot of holes.
- 6:56Speaker 1: And that, to me is the issue with the Cowboys.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Over time.
- 7:00Speaker 1: You can't solve every issue in one offseason, but over time,
- 7:04Speaker 1: over the next two seasons, can they get it to
- 7:06Speaker 1: be a respectable defense with Christian Parker and they got
- 7:08Speaker 1: to help them. Let's go to the Giants. I love
- 7:10Speaker 1: what they've done here, I really do. Let's start an
- 7:13Speaker 1: offense Isaiah Likely. You know it's funny. It's gonna be
- 7:16Speaker 1: like it's going to be the Jersey version of the Ravens, right,
- 7:21Speaker 1: Isaiah Likely? And you kind of you kind of see
- 7:25Speaker 1: what the Giants are doing here? And I mentioned likely
- 7:30Speaker 1: and Chris Manherts is back is a why tight end.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Isaiah Likely is going to be their move tight end.
- 7:36Speaker 1: They'll they're gonna play a lot of twelve personal Theo
- 7:38Speaker 1: Johnson also is there as well, who now is in
- 7:41Speaker 1: this third year he'll back up likely but likely will
- 7:45Speaker 1: be their starter. Man Hurts will be there. That will
- 7:48Speaker 1: be the guy when they go twelve, which is a lot.
- 7:50Speaker 1: They're gonna go a lot of twelve. And remember they
- 7:51Speaker 1: brought in Patrick Riccard. They're ready, given the answers to
- 7:54Speaker 1: the test what they're going to be, and they needed
- 7:56Speaker 1: a third receiver. Darnel Mooney in Calvin Austin will be
- 8:00Speaker 1: their backups in Isaiah Hodgins's back. They're gonna play a
- 8:03Speaker 1: lot of twelve. They might play some twenty one per
- 8:05Speaker 1: In fact, they will with Patrick Recard.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Scataboo. The only issue is.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Checking this into this is is well, he suffered a
- 8:14Speaker 1: bad injury, but I'm total his rehabs going well. It's
- 8:18Speaker 1: just he's not a juice guy. Tracy Tyrone, Tracy had
- 8:22Speaker 1: to the juice to their backfield. Singlitary's there for depth.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Jackson Dart's Jackson Dart. The thing here was with the
- 8:30Speaker 1: commitment to the running game, which you're gonna find. This
- 8:32Speaker 1: will help him, it won't be all on him. Neighbor's
- 8:35Speaker 1: coming back from the ACL injury. Slayton's back obviously, so
- 8:39Speaker 1: they've got a lot of death was a problem. They've
- 8:41Speaker 1: got depth now with Calvin Austin. I'm a big Austin
- 8:43Speaker 1: Calvin Austin fan. He's more of a slot receiver, run after.
- 8:46Speaker 2: The catch guy.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Darius Slayton, by the way, there was no way they're
- 8:51Speaker 1: moving on from him. He has about ten million fully guaranteed.
- 8:55Speaker 1: The season of is just over twelve million, so that
- 8:57Speaker 1: he wasn't going anywhere. Next year is the final year
- 9:01Speaker 1: of his deal, where there's about ten million in cash.
- 9:03Speaker 2: He's got a roster.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Bonus to the fifth day of free agency of two
- 9:06Speaker 1: point five million. So obviously, if you didn't play well
- 9:08Speaker 1: this season, they can move on. But they're looking good
- 9:11Speaker 1: on offense now. The issue for them as always, can
- 9:14Speaker 1: you protect do yourmain illuminer's back who's been a good
- 9:16Speaker 1: story of development.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Andrew Thomas has got to stay on the field.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Running is there John Michael Schmidt' Aaron Staney has resigned.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Evan Newell will play guard for them. He's a backup.
- 9:27Speaker 1: They've completely missed. James Hudson didn't work out, they cut him.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Marcus Embo is back. He was a fifth runner last year.
- 9:36Speaker 1: The offensive line has got to play better. That's the
- 9:38Speaker 1: issue for them. But I like it with Greg Roman
- 9:41Speaker 1: helping out Matt Naggie because the offensive Naggie's not This
- 9:44Speaker 1: is not the typical Matt Naggie OFFENSEI he wants to
- 9:46Speaker 1: go more spread. But here they're telling you what they're doing.
- 9:50Speaker 1: With John Harball being the head coach, they're going to
- 9:54Speaker 1: run the football. Patrickork Card's there, he's there for a reason.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I like what they're doing here.
- 9:59Speaker 2: I like this. Pat Ricard, by the way, signed a
- 10:02Speaker 2: two year deal with just it's worth.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Doing the math here. There's no guaranteed money in year two,
- 10:12Speaker 1: but he'll make just over four million a year one.
- 10:14Speaker 1: It's it's basically a two year, eight million dollar contract.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Just under it.
- 10:19Speaker 1: But when you're bringing pat Ricard and they're telling you
- 10:21Speaker 1: what they're doing, they're gonna run the football. Now the
- 10:24Speaker 1: issue with them is defensively, what's the secondary going to
- 10:28Speaker 1: look like? Because with Lawrence Ray, Robertson, Harris now who
- 10:31Speaker 1: came up from the Seahawks last year after he was released,
- 10:34Speaker 1: Darius Alexander in year two, Truncy Golson's back, they could
- 10:41Speaker 1: use would be one more guy. But we know what
- 10:42Speaker 1: they are, what they're going to be. We know that
- 10:44Speaker 1: they're thirty four front, Gernard Wilson, he runs a thirty four.
- 10:50Speaker 1: You know who the edges are, you know, it's Burns,
- 10:53Speaker 1: It's Carter who came on late last season with Thibodeaux.
- 10:56Speaker 1: They continue to say that they're not trading them. Well,
- 11:00Speaker 1: we'll see what happens and how they're doing at the
- 11:02Speaker 1: trade deadline.
- 11:03Speaker 2: And Golson.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Golson's more of a stand up pass rusher anyway. But
- 11:07Speaker 1: the problem is, well, they're two issues. They cut okay, okay,
- 11:10Speaker 1: they brought in Tremaine and Edmonds, who did not play
- 11:12Speaker 1: well for the Bears last season.
- 11:13Speaker 2: He was cut.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Edmonds comes in there. They're expecting him to kind of
- 11:17Speaker 1: solidify things. Michael McFadden's back, so they're a little shaky
- 11:21Speaker 1: at inside backer, and then at corner.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Greg Newsom comes over.
- 11:25Speaker 1: What I don't understand about the Jaguars is you make
- 11:28Speaker 1: that trade corner for corner and you don't bring.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Back Greg Newsom.
- 11:33Speaker 1: That that was a bizarre trade to me, Tyson Campbell,
- 11:37Speaker 1: even though for Greg Newsom, I just to to this
- 11:40Speaker 1: day it's so rare to see something like that. I
- 11:45Speaker 1: didn't really understand it when it was done, other than
- 11:48Speaker 1: clearly the teams wanted to move on from those players.
- 11:50Speaker 1: But we know Deontay Banks is very inconsistent. He's a
- 11:54Speaker 1: good returner. He's got to play better. He's got to
- 11:56Speaker 1: be more consistent. They have not gotten enough out of him.
- 12:00Speaker 1: He was a first round pick in twenty twenty three.
- 12:03Speaker 1: It's Deebo, it's Banks, it's Greg Newsom. Drew Phillips will
- 12:07Speaker 1: be their nickel. Newman's back. Pinnock is back with Javon Holland,
- 12:13Speaker 1: there's upside to the secondary and they've got to be better.
- 12:16Speaker 1: This team is going to be better because they're gonna
- 12:17Speaker 1: better coach, there's no question about it. With Naggie and
- 12:22Speaker 1: Chris Whorton, by the way, the special teams coordinator. He
- 12:25Speaker 1: was with Harbes with the Ravens, so this is gonna
- 12:27Speaker 1: be very Ravens like no they brandon Jordan Stout. It's
- 12:31Speaker 1: hilarious during Stout that the former Ravens punters really really good.
- 12:35Speaker 1: So to me, it's all there for them. It's just okay,
- 12:40Speaker 1: what does Evans have left? He was cut by the Bears.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Why does Newsom keep moving on? You have to answer that,
- 12:46Speaker 1: you have to. Mooney was cut by the Falcons. That
- 12:48Speaker 1: was an easy call because the former GM is the GM.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Terry Fino was no longer there. He was hurt last season.
- 12:55Speaker 1: They couldn't justify the contract. They moved on from him.
- 12:57Speaker 1: There's upside to this football team. To me, they dependent no,
- 13:02Speaker 1: we're we're very early here. Again, we're very early in
- 13:06Speaker 1: free well, freegency goes on for months and weeks. But
- 13:10Speaker 1: I'm interested to see and I look this up right now.
- 13:12Speaker 2: As we speak here.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I want to see what the future numbers are for
- 13:15Speaker 1: the for the Giants. I was right last year. I
- 13:18Speaker 1: liked under the number. But I do wonder because to me,
- 13:23Speaker 1: this could be, if everything works out right, a nine
- 13:26Speaker 1: or ten win team and that's that's that's a big
- 13:30Speaker 1: jump for them. They definitely unachieved last season, There's no
- 13:33Speaker 1: question about it. But I'm very interested to see what
- 13:37Speaker 1: Harriball can do in his first year.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Let me see if we have an MVP winners. Let
- 13:41Speaker 2: me see, uh, let's ce ce cee cee, see see.
- 13:44Speaker 1: If they have them out here, division winners. They've got that,
- 13:52Speaker 1: and I'm sure it's going to be the Eagles. I'm
- 13:55Speaker 1: looking at, by the way, for anyone. Yeah, it's well,
- 13:57Speaker 1: it's interesting this is from MGM. Eagles are minus one
- 14:01Speaker 1: and two, so they were a very small favorite. The
- 14:04Speaker 1: Cowboys are plus two fifty. Commanders are plus five hundred.
- 14:09Speaker 1: The Giants are plus seven hundred. Let me see if
- 14:11Speaker 1: I could find the win totals.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Let's see if we have them here, because.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Yes we do we have them. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 14:18Speaker 1: the Giants seven and a half. I like the I'm
- 14:22Speaker 1: going to tell you right now. I like the over
- 14:24Speaker 1: seven and a half of plus one hundred. I was
- 14:26Speaker 1: wrong on his brother the first year with the Chargers.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I was way off. I didn't think the over eight
- 14:30Speaker 1: and a half was good. He got over eight and
- 14:32Speaker 1: a half this first year. I want his brother, his
- 14:36Speaker 1: big brother John. I'm taking the over seven and a
- 14:38Speaker 1: half if I was going to play the future numbers.
- 14:40Speaker 1: All right, let's see. So we've done done the cow Polks,
- 14:44Speaker 1: We've done the Giants. Let's get to the Eagles. And
- 14:46Speaker 1: obviously this is inside the Birds. You kind of know
- 14:48Speaker 1: where I'm at if you've listened to our show with
- 14:50Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher and I. And look, the Eagles have a
- 14:55Speaker 1: lot of work to do, and as I've learned with
- 14:57Speaker 1: Howie Roseman, he's never quite done.
- 15:00Speaker 2: You know.
- 15:00Speaker 1: The AJ Brown situation, it's real simple. When the Eagles
- 15:04Speaker 1: are willing to accept something that the Patriots are willing
- 15:08Speaker 1: to do, we're going to have an AJ Brown trade.
- 15:10Speaker 1: The Patriots are not in agreement, as I've been told
- 15:13Speaker 1: many times by people, closest situation on what the Eagles
- 15:17Speaker 1: want for AJ Brown.
- 15:18Speaker 2: So that see.
- 15:20Speaker 1: But here's the thing. The Eagles have the issue about
- 15:23Speaker 1: the post June one doing a trade now or anytime
- 15:29Speaker 1: now through June first, it's you're going to get zapped
- 15:32Speaker 1: with the butt the acceleration.
- 15:36Speaker 2: So you could just wait.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I know the Eagles could handle it better now that
- 15:39Speaker 1: they got the Goddard stuff taken care of. But to me,
- 15:45Speaker 1: how he's got to get a first round pick. He's
- 15:47Speaker 1: still a very good football player. Now from the Patriots standpoint,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I think it's very fair to say, look, you want
- 15:54Speaker 1: us to give up a first round pick. Oh, by
- 15:56Speaker 1: the way, AJ's going to make twenty nine million in
- 15:59Speaker 1: cash this season.
- 16:00Speaker 2: It's guaranteed. You're not like that's what he's gonna make.
- 16:04Speaker 1: So are you gonna are you really gonna make you
- 16:06Speaker 1: really wanted to give up a first round pick?
- 16:09Speaker 2: And more?
- 16:09Speaker 1: Well, I think from the Eagle standpoint, we have to
- 16:11Speaker 1: understand that that first round pick's thirty first overall, you know,
- 16:17Speaker 1: and that to me, if I'm the Eagles, I actually
- 16:20Speaker 1: would take a twenty twenty seven first round pick because
- 16:23Speaker 1: I don't know. I know that they have a We're
- 16:25Speaker 1: very early here. The Patriots severely overachieved to me, and
- 16:29Speaker 1: that's just the way it is. Some people not may
- 16:32Speaker 1: not agree with me, some people may. We'll have to
- 16:35Speaker 1: see and then just just a couple of things, uh,
- 16:40Speaker 1: with the Eagles here right now, they need a third receiver,
- 16:45Speaker 1: definitely offensive line. They've solved the tight end issue just
- 16:49Speaker 1: for this season. Got it's on a one year deal.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Calcul Terra's a one year deal. Months on a one
- 16:53Speaker 1: new deal, lat twos on the Fundie it's to your deal.
- 16:57Speaker 1: So they could solve that in the draft. But they
- 16:59Speaker 1: don't have to take care of at this season. It's
- 17:00Speaker 1: not a must running back. They're fine with Barkley, Bigsby,
- 17:03Speaker 1: who is really good last season, and Shipley. What they
- 17:07Speaker 1: have to find is a number one edge rusher. They're trying,
- 17:09Speaker 1: they're looking into it corner. They the issue is obviously
- 17:14Speaker 1: past the season. Opposite Quinnya, Mitchell Riek Wallington a one
- 17:18Speaker 1: year deal with twelve million with upside, and that's it.
- 17:22Speaker 1: They just they It's still a lot of question marks.
- 17:24Speaker 1: This division to me is a little bit wide open.
- 17:28Speaker 1: And then you've got and well, let's move on to
- 17:30Speaker 1: Washington because people know about people a pretty good idea
- 17:34Speaker 1: here with me with the Eagles, let's go to Washington. Here,
- 17:38Speaker 1: they've been very, very aggressive. It's not that it's not
- 17:41Speaker 1: that it's the money, it's they've made a lot of moves.
- 17:45Speaker 1: You remember, they had the oldest they had the oldest
- 17:47Speaker 1: roster the National Football League last season. I know Adam
- 17:50Speaker 1: Peters is not looking to do that. I totally get that.
- 17:54Speaker 1: So offensively, here's where they're at. They still have issues
- 17:57Speaker 1: at receiver. Opposite McLaurin. Treylon barks as a nice story.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I believe he got a one year deal worth three million.
- 18:03Speaker 1: He's an unproven player. Luke mcaffrey's an unproven player. Jammy
- 18:06Speaker 1: Brown is back. Here's what happened with him with Jacksonville.
- 18:09Speaker 1: He had three different injuries. He had a one year,
- 18:12Speaker 1: ten million dollar deal. Well that's not his fault that
- 18:13Speaker 1: he got hurt. So you could call him a free
- 18:15Speaker 1: agent bus but he got hurt. There's nothing you can
- 18:17Speaker 1: do about that. And Van Jefferson is there, who's basically
- 18:20Speaker 1: a fourth receiver. So and Jalen Lane is a slot.
- 18:23Speaker 1: They cross trained him it outside because they had a
- 18:25Speaker 1: lot of injuries. They just don't have opposite McLaurin anyone
- 18:29Speaker 1: they could rely on.
- 18:30Speaker 2: They have. Death is death.
- 18:32Speaker 1: As I've said a thousand times on inside the Birds,
- 18:34Speaker 1: it's not about how many players you have in a position,
- 18:36Speaker 1: it's the quality of the players. Any better quality. I
- 18:39Speaker 1: liked that they brought Chris Paul back, who they believe
- 18:42Speaker 1: is their strongest offensive lineman. He's a sleeper offensive lineman
- 18:46Speaker 1: who was a two thousand and twenty two seventh round pick.
- 18:50Speaker 1: He's been a good story development out of Tulsa. He
- 18:53Speaker 1: should be able to compete for a start that left
- 18:55Speaker 1: guard job. We know Tunsel's back obviously, Connor Leaf back,
- 18:59Speaker 1: who was stud boy that he looked great. You know,
- 19:02Speaker 1: it's not easy to go from left to right tackle,
- 19:04Speaker 1: from going from college left tackle to right he was
- 19:05Speaker 1: a stud. Ali Gretty's back, Wiley's back, Brandon Coleman's back.
- 19:11Speaker 1: The good thing is they're going to have depth Trent
- 19:13Speaker 1: Scott's back, by the way, the depth is fine, it's
- 19:17Speaker 1: can they get better play? Cosmy will be a year
- 19:19Speaker 1: removed from the ACL injury. But can they get better
- 19:22Speaker 1: play from the interior? That that to me is that
- 19:25Speaker 1: to me is right now, guys, that is the issue
- 19:29Speaker 1: for me. Offensively, we know Conco comes in at tight
- 19:35Speaker 1: end for three year, thirty million. He doesn't block very
- 19:38Speaker 1: well Bates is They're why ted end Their inline blocker
- 19:40Speaker 1: Ben Sen has been a major disappointment through two seasons.
- 19:44Speaker 1: The way I heard it from other teams was I
- 19:47Speaker 1: talked to a lot of personnel people. I don't know
- 19:49Speaker 1: anyone turned in higher than a fourth round grade on him.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I'm surprised that Adam Peters took him that high, but
- 19:55Speaker 1: he hadn't worked out he had done anything so far.
- 19:57Speaker 1: But Bates Bates is a good blocker. Chickt con Quo,
- 20:02Speaker 1: You're not gonna ask you in to block.
- 20:03Speaker 2: He's explosive.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Between Bates and a con Quo, they should be able
- 20:07Speaker 1: to Jimmy rig that thing pretty well. And I like
- 20:10Speaker 1: what they did at running back with Rashad White, good
- 20:13Speaker 1: handle pass pro and third down Jerome four could play
- 20:15Speaker 1: on third down. White could handle a third third down
- 20:19Speaker 1: short yardage. Krosskey merit is not physical. That's why they
- 20:22Speaker 1: brought these guys in. And McNichols, by the way, is
- 20:24Speaker 1: back who's basically was played a little bit more proudly
- 20:28Speaker 1: than they thought he would on offense because they were
- 20:30Speaker 1: a little bit thinner after Eckler got hurt. Excellent special
- 20:33Speaker 1: teams player over his career, and he can block, by
- 20:35Speaker 1: the way, but they won't need him to. He'll just
- 20:37Speaker 1: be death and play on special teams. But it's keeping
- 20:40Speaker 1: Daniel's healthy. It's offensively for them just somehow playing better
- 20:46Speaker 1: in the interior.
- 20:47Speaker 2: And defensively, let's go there.
- 20:49Speaker 1: They're gonna run a thirty four defense under Toronte Jones
- 20:51Speaker 1: who comes over from Dallas and now obviously he's excuse me, Minnesota,
- 20:56Speaker 1: but he's gonna run a thirty four defense. Daffi Away
- 20:59Speaker 1: who shown some upside. He's got the twenty five million
- 21:02Speaker 1: a year contract. First years are fully guaranteed. Chasing comes
- 21:05Speaker 1: in on a one year deal. Lovely of Chanal. This
- 21:08Speaker 1: is a very interesting player. Remember you start to inside backers.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Luvun shannew will be your inside backers. McGee Jordan McGee's
- 21:14Speaker 1: a pretty good backup, is there. They finally address the
- 21:18Speaker 1: depth issue on the on their defensive line. We know
- 21:22Speaker 1: that Payne pains back on the final Vers deal and
- 21:24Speaker 1: kin Law Tim settles back.
- 21:27Speaker 2: He's back. Formerly he was there, then he moved on
- 21:30Speaker 2: to the Texans. He's back.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Johnny Newton who needs to play better in Shy Tuttle's back.
- 21:35Speaker 1: So they've Tetrick Wise coming off his injury, during Armstrong
- 21:38Speaker 1: coming off his injury. But they're gonna have definitely defensive
- 21:41Speaker 1: line from the edge rush group love chasing.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Uh this guy.
- 21:45Speaker 1: He did very well for New England early in his
- 21:48Speaker 1: courth Jacksonville just never got there.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Armstrong's coming off his injury.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Chaneal could line up on the edge if you need
- 21:55Speaker 1: him to a Mena who's decent depth. They still need
- 21:58Speaker 1: another high end edge rusher.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Well, actually, let's put it this way.
- 22:01Speaker 1: With Oway and Chasin, Chasin's on one year, they could
- 22:07Speaker 1: use one more guy with upside.
- 22:10Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be in this draft.
- 22:11Speaker 1: But the good thing is now they because they ran
- 22:13Speaker 1: out of players last year. Jacob Martin, who basically had
- 22:17Speaker 1: been on the scrap heap for years, wound up having
- 22:20Speaker 1: like a career year because he had to play.
- 22:21Speaker 2: He played a lot. But between Oway.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Chasin, we'll see about Armstrong, We'll see about wise A Mena,
- 22:27Speaker 1: who's there. They could use one more guy. They're good
- 22:30Speaker 1: at they're good, good in the interior on the defensive line.
- 22:32Speaker 1: They got en up depth.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Loved the channel signing. You could he could be moved around.
- 22:36Speaker 1: He's a really interesting player, but he's been in forty
- 22:38Speaker 1: three front of his entire career, so this is a
- 22:40Speaker 1: little bit of a change for him. As Trey Thomas
- 22:43Speaker 1: is back from his injury, played really well, I'm told
- 22:46Speaker 1: before he got hurt. Sanders still took a step back less.
- 22:50Speaker 1: He's not a major one. He was not as good
- 22:51Speaker 1: as his rookie season. And a meek Robertson. I love
- 22:54Speaker 1: this signing. He's gonna make about six million a year.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Mick Robertson is really a nickel who had to play
- 23:00Speaker 1: a little bit on the outside because of injury for Detroit.
- 23:04Speaker 1: It's a good signing, very competitive guy, Kwan Martin. Between
- 23:08Speaker 1: Kwan Martin and Nick Cross, who's another underrated signing, and
- 23:12Speaker 1: Will Harris and they've got the good thing with their
- 23:15Speaker 1: secondary is They've got versatility. They've got Nick Cross is
- 23:18Speaker 1: a very unrated player, just outstanding tackler, get hit, not
- 23:23Speaker 1: a big play safety. But between Saint Rasteril's versatility, you
- 23:28Speaker 1: just got to play better when he plays corner and
- 23:31Speaker 1: corners obviously stick cornerback, when Nichols Nickel, Nichols not a
- 23:34Speaker 1: corner Including new Vic Fangio, Nicol is a defensive back position,
- 23:38Speaker 1: but is not a outside position. They need corners. I
- 23:43Speaker 1: would like to see them get one more edge rusher.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Need a little bit of death on at inside backer.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I like where they're going here at running back, least
- 23:50Speaker 1: for this season. We'll see if Krosskey Merritt can improve
- 23:54Speaker 1: interior their offensive line. I think they need to ed
- 23:56Speaker 1: In fact, I know they need to add to that
- 23:57Speaker 1: in the draft. Depth of receivers a little bit questionable
- 24:01Speaker 1: in terms of the quality. This roster is better. I
- 24:04Speaker 1: like what Peters and Lance new Mark have done here.
- 24:06Speaker 1: There's gonna be way more competitive again. I like what
- 24:10Speaker 1: they're doing Washington. By the way, Washington's win total also
- 24:14Speaker 1: seven and a half minus one twenty. Yeah, I do
- 24:18Speaker 1: like that. Over I do like that over the Eagles.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Over under, I'm gonna guess this nine and a half.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Oh ten and a half. Wow, they are plus one
- 24:27Speaker 1: ozh five at over ten and a half. We're so
- 24:30Speaker 1: early here. Heck their roster. I mean they're looking for
- 24:33Speaker 1: an edge rush that if they get a certificant edge rusher,
- 24:36Speaker 1: I might like the over But that's it from now.
- 24:38Speaker 2: That that's the NFC East.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Just wanted to give you a breakdown of what it
- 24:41Speaker 1: looks like as of now. We'll update this closer to
- 24:44Speaker 1: training camp. We'll do this again once you get through
- 24:47Speaker 1: the draft, but just give it an overview of what
- 24:49Speaker 1: the team's needs are and the way the teams look.
- 24:52Speaker 2: All right. Next up the NFC North.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Until then, it's Adam Kaplan for inside the Birds. Ad
