- AUDIO: Spite. right. It was completely out of spite. And I said it online, I'm doing a trip on my own. It's just a middle finger up to him. I had such bad anxiety I remember staying in my room for weeks on end. And then motorbikes kind of changed that. was like, You'll fit in my tank bag. Put her in my tank bag, is it put it up, I was like, Right, guess we're gonna go find somewhere. Norton approached me and I thought this is a mistake. And she was like, No, no. I had been watching your content for eleven months now and we've had you on the radar. I was like, okay. So So welcome to another episode of the Just Ride Podcast. Today we're joined by Jade Rides. Jade is a motorcycle traveller, reviewer, and content creator who has ridden bikes in twenty two countries, taking on everything from solo adventures to off road riding and even rescuing a few street dogs along the way. She's also co founder of Endo Rides. using motorcycling, I'll start again. She's also a co founder of Endoriders using motorcycles to support and connect women living with endometriasis. Nearly Endometriosis. Just call it endo if you Endo. Endo. I practised again today so many times. Jade, welcome to Just Ride. I know I did I really did practice that, but I just thought and even in the car earlier on when I was coming out to get here, I was like and I just To be honest, it's nothing new. We always get one of them right. Exactly. So good. So y so we last time we hung out was at ABR. Yeah. Yeah. What have you been doing since ABR? I it was a hot ABR. It was sweaty. It was absolutely so what have you been doing since since ABR? Tell us. What have I been doing? I went to Iceland for complete opposite of the temperature spectrum to ride Norton's Atlas. Yeah. on their launch. So that was cold and wet and windy and the complete opposite of here. And I've been to a couple of festivals. Not been riding that much though. Have you not? No. I've had a Hero X Pulse, if you've seen those. Had that for a while, so I've been riding that, reviewing that. Mm-hmm. In two days I'm getting a couple more bikes. So tell us what they are. I'm getting a Q J four fifty RX from Moto G B. And then I don't know what day, but I'm getting some Suzuki's as well. A supermoto. We're doing something wrong because we're getting outs and we don't ask. Yeah, I finally actually got the courage to ask. And a scooter. A scooter? Yeah. I've never ridden a scooter. You think it can handle it? I don't know. But I thought, why not? Yeah. For commuting. Yeah. Give it a go. So so how long have you been riding then? seven years. Just over. Seven years. And you've done twenty two countries. Yeah, but nineteen were in one trip. That's still really fast. So that you could push them together. That's still a big achievement, aren't it? Like we've done four. Not three. But that's three more up Two more than a lot of people in Scotland and Wales. We sent all our guests a question there and I well I have to say that there was pages and pages and pages you really let rip in terms of That's why I took a few days to get back to you. And that I was I actually edited that down because it had a lot of angriness in there at first. This was a three hour podcast by the way, it's probably gonna be quite short. Was that the old profession coming out of your if you're Making a were you doing an essay? Or were you marking somebody's essay? I had to mark my own work a few times, yeah. For anybody who doesn't know which we were gonna dive into, you used to be a teacher, didn't you? Yeah, sort of still am. So you sort of are. Yeah. I tr I left my permanent teaching job in April. Right. And I had this grand idea of I'm just gonna quit, I have no job to go to, something'll come up. Yeah. And then I thought, ABR, I'll talk to every stand and I'll get a job. And then it was so hot, I was just dying in the van and it didn't happen. I barely spoke to anyone. So I am doing supply teaching. We spoke to us. I did. The best people obviously. then yeah, I'm just doing supply whilst I apply for some jobs. But I'm very picky about where I apply for so I keep saying, I can't get another job and then My partner goes, Yeah, but you've applied to two and I'm like, yeah. That might be why. Primary secondary. Secondary maths. maths. You're in the same field as my wife then. so you know how awful it is. Well, I don't, she does. Well, I I thought it was really interesting if we delve into kind of you and your sort of the anxiousness, which I found was quite quite interesting. It's kind of given what you do as a a profession. Mm. The fact that you're quite anxious around people. Yeah. do you want to kind of talk through 'cause I thought that was quite surprising that what you do. Yeah. I guess. and and what you're doing now is like what what how did that all kind of come about and how did you then not be so anxious if if you don't mean do you want to talk us through that? Yeah. so through secondary school myself, I was really bullied, really anxious, had really bad depression. Kind of I remember being about fifteen and I was suicidal every day. And I'd I was planning it. I was not thinking I'd make it to 18. I was I was really struggling. And I just thought that was normal. I just assumed everybody felt like this. And then I went to university to be a teacher because it was kind of pushed on me a bit from my dad. And I had such bad anxiety from uni at uni that I remember staying in my room for weeks on end. People would have to go get shopping for me and I would look out from my little prison window in my little uni halls and I could see the supermarket and KFC drive through and everything. And I was just absolutely petrified of leaving. I just couldn't. And I would have weeks off uni. And it was I was in a really bad state for quite a long time. And then motorbikes kind of changed that. So I think with the teaching stuff, you sort of put on a hat, like you're a teacher. I'm a different person. And then when the motorbikes came out and then I made Jade Rides Instagram, I became another different person in a way. I was Jade Rides who's not anxious, who goes and rides motorbikes and does cool things. And when I'm just me, I don't know. I go back into this sort of anxious state a bit. But then if if I if I go, Well, no, I'm Jade Rides, I'm like, okay, I'm all right again. I don't know. So that's what gone through a lot of therapy for. So bubbly tonight is because tonight you're Jade. I'm Jade Rides. Yeah. But no, I still have anxiety. I still get depression at times. But I I think I've learnt a lot of different methods for coping with it. And I don't know, it's just yeah, I just put on the I'm Jade Rides. Like at motorcycle live. The first few times I went, I was so anxious. I remember the first year I went And I had to just leave and just hide for an hour or two and my partner and his mum walked around and and I couldn't cope. I just couldn't cope with it. Second year was a bit better, third year. It wasn't until I grew a bit more on Instagram that I went, I'm Jade Rides. Why not? I'll just walk around like I own the place kind of thing and then it's fine, you just fake it. I just fake it. Just fake it. Well you're doing a very good job of it. Thanks. You're doing definitely. I mean, I know that is quite a It is quite an intimidating show, isn't Particularly you haven't been indoors, it's yeah. I I I remem I remember doing the first ever show we were there for ten days and it was incredibly timid because you have to talk to everybody. Yeah. I mean I don't have a problem talking. No but it doesn't. But it it it is so big, isn't it? Have you ever been to Ankhmer? Have you ever been or that is 'cause my partner always goes for work, so one of us has to be at home for the dogs. And it's always when it's fire work, so it's the worst time of the year. Yeah. I don't know, I've not been, but Yeah. well it looks big. It i it is if you look at kind of the size of motorcycle eleven, think of Evankma being probably four, five, maybe six times bigger. and you need a few days to be able to get around it. Yeah. Do they have The shows and stuff inside, 'cause Motorcycle Live, the last couple of years they've had so much going on, haven't they? I found like the volume just gets a bit much. Do they have that at Ikea? I I I never saw any shows. It was just corridor and corridor and room and room after just full of bikes and everything. It i it is an unbelievable show. I think we definitely need to try and get there. I don't know if we're gonna have time that probably not this year, but certainly we'll go next year. But it is it is. You should go if you can. One day. because go as Jade Rice, you'd be fine. So yeah. So ask you, Jay, it's obviously, you know, we've we've come across a few people who I said motorcycling's really helped someone in their mental health journey. So would you say that's your story? Would you say motorcycling has has helped or Yeah, definitely. before I sort of went off on my big trip and did the nineteen countries, yeah, I was so anxious. I was I couldn't even have contemplated doing such a trip and I didn't leave thinking I'm going away for five months. It was I'm just going out. And it's so I that's enough to make most people anxious. Just going away for five months on a bike when you know particularly to 22 countries. Yeah, in the end. so I did 19 in that trip. Yeah. And then so I went to Georgia and back. And then the follow no not the following year. A couple of years later I went to Ireland. I did the Wild Atlantic Way. Yeah. And then since then I've been to Spain and did the Pyrenees last summer. Wow. And then this year, Iceland for that launch. So the so the the first trip that you did, because I'm reading a little bit of information. Was that on the R V one two five? yeah, yeah. Yeah. I I did my C V T on my van van and then well, not on my van van, I got the van van. And then I was like, I'm gonna go do the North Coast five hundred. I didn't think about having good gear and waterproofs and, you know, all of the good stuff you need. So I was I remember going to Tesco Superstore in one of the cities in Scotland. I think it was maybe before in Vanessa. And I just went to the children's clothes section and bought a pack of five school jumpers and put all of them on. No. I wore all five jumpers and bump back and I was still fine. Jane Right. Was that was that the like for the abrasion test If I come off I'll be fine. And before anybody says it, there's nothing wrong with children's clothes. Yes Martin that's where he goes 'cause he's so smart. yeah, I've just started. Next children's clothes are amazing. I'm an age fifteen But yeah, I did I did the North Coast five hundred and the idea was because I wasn't old enough to do my full A, I thought I'll wait until I can do my full A rather than going for the A two. And then I did the trip and I was like, shit, I really want a bigger bike. I'll just do the A two. And then thank God I did, 'cause then lockdown happened and I actually had a big bike then. Yeah. Yeah. And then I went over to Switzerland, my half sister lives there, so I did a bit of Alps. Wow. And then You've done more than more than those. That's ridiculous. That was that was scary because that was my first time getting on a ferry with a bike. And that was on your own as well, wasn't it? Yeah. Yeah. Jade, I'm gonna ask you. So these 19 countries you did, how did that come about for you to actually go and do that massive ride? Spite. right. It was completely out of spite. Well, there we go. No, basically, I didn't. Ride until the So basically I met my partner Nae and he was planning a round the world trip. He he watched Long Way Round. It kind of he grew up with that and wanted he had a Tiger eight hundred and his plan was to do that. And I moved in with him two weeks into our relationship 'cause I broke my pelvis and I'd never been on a bike. Then I went on the back of his and I was like, I wanna come with you and He just said, Not not a chance, you're not gonna you're not going on the back, you can get your own. And that's when I went, Okay, I'll teach I'll I'll learn, you can teach me, and got the van vam. And then lockdown happened, COVID happened, and we had a bit of a break. And the sort of not condition, that sounds wrong, but yeah, condition for getting back together was that he did the trip on his own. And I was like, Fine, I'll do it on my own then, or I'll do a trip. So it was just completely outspite. And I said it online, said it on Instagram. I'm doing a trip on my own. It's just a middle finger up to him. I love it. And then Georgia. And then I went to Georgia. Well, I wanted to get into Russia. But the week I was in Georgia I hadn't got visas or anything anyway. But Justin Yeah, I was kind of thinking I might try to go try and get into Russia. The week I got to Georgia, they started the war with Ukraine. So yeah, I was in Georgia and I was in Tbilisi and the hotel, the hostel was bought by a Russian guy who had fleed the country. And yeah, I remember waking up at three AM to go to the loo and he was there awake. I was like, Well what are you doing? He was like, I've given all the beds up to Russians. I was like, I can go, I've got a tent. You can have my room and he was like, No, no, it's fine. It's all good. I've just left my country to Buy this hostel and make a life here. Yeah. I was like, okay, I'm not going to Russia anymore. I'll just stick to Georgia and dead around. I think there's a book and a film coming out of it. So was it a situation that you went and did that out of spite so that Nye stayed at home and or was it because you couldn't get a jumper from Tesco for Nye in in his yeah, in his size, you know, to keep him warm on the trip. He's at least at age sixteen. No, it was he wanted to do his own trip and then decided he wanted to ride to South Africa in Sudan. so he'd already done he'd already gone basically the trip I'd done. And he'd gone to I can't remember the country. It's near Georgia and Turkey. Yeah. he'd been all that way. And then he'd gone to Morocco and then he was like, I wanna do something more th exciting than Europe. So yeah. Did you have any any interest in motorcycles whatsoever before you met Nye then? No. I was It is great, but I mean it's like wow. Girl meets boy. Yeah. Girl gets bike. Bye bye boy. You go your way, I'm going to the wedding. I'm doing twenty two at nineteen country. That's mad. That's remarkable. And then I bought quite a few bikes since. I went through a bit of a phase of buying and selling and we did up we we had six van vans, I think, in total. I've gone back to having a van van. after my first van van c come out a lot in your your Yeah, I just love my little van van. Have you got a van van t shirt? Yeah. I think I run the Facebook group of Suzuki Van Bans UK. Join if you've got a van van and we made merch and stickers and all sorts, yeah. So what revenue then? Actually we are we are we are ten minutes in and we're we're like what she hasn't got into Russia. Yeah that's true not yet. Not yet. I did I did think we were gonna struggle 'cause I picked you up from the Our green room. Yeah. And he's I'm really anxious and I thought, Mm, we might have a problem with this one tonight. And then you've come in and we've just gone No Yeah. I'm Jade Rides again now. Yeah. That's what I love. I think that that's obviously we met you at ABR and and it it was it was amazing 'cause you came over and you've just went Bah and I was like, Whoa Well that's isn't it? The persona you can manage. Yeah. It's like if you I'm not saying I'm fake. This is me a lot of the time, but No, no, but it's like being that if you're an actor, if you're if you're a school teacher, you're in control of that situation. You can control everything that's going on. It'd be really boring if I was just it gives you confidence. Miserable Jade. Yeah. It gives confidence, that's what it does. And then suddenly you're travelling across the world. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, how was your anxiety doing that? There were t definitely testing times. Yeah. There were. So something Nice said to me was every mile you're riding away from home, you're a mile closer to home. Because you're coming back at the same time, aren't you? Yes. And that changed a lot in my head when he said that. Yeah. And then instead of thinking, I'm going all this way and I'm gonna be gone these many months 'cause I didn't really know, it was until I ran out of money kind of thing, and the weather changed. I just set myself a little goal. So my first goal was to ride the Stella Alpina rally in Italy, which you've probably not heard of. No? No, but we are tonight. And all our listeners and viewers are going to hear. I don't actually know if it's still going because the government sort of shut down everything. It's the highest Alp road, road being very loose. Yeah. That you can ride. And every year The second Sunday of July or something, they would have a rally, and everybody goes and rides to the top of the mountain or as high as you can go up. It's normally covered in snow and stuff. And that was my first goal. I really wanted to ride that. So, but that was like a real anxious point because I got there and I just assumed it would just be some people in a field and we'd just go and ride. And I did not expect what what was there. So I got there and I turned off this little track, and there was a a big marquee and gazebos and music playing and barbecues and it was crazy. So I turned in and then somebody started shouting, Norali, Norali at me. I was like, Who the heck is this? And he shouts, Itchy boots, thinking I'm itchy boots And I I was like, What the heck? No, no. I'm not even on a Honda. I'm on a Yamaha and I And it annoyed me actually. It really annoyed me. But we ended up being friends in the end. And I set up my tent and I was next to this little river and then all these drunk guys were like, Come party with us, party with us and most of them didn't speak English, it w it was proper in the sticks in Italy. And I ended up getting roped into going to this gazebo and they were doing crazy things in there. And then I went I was like, I need to go, I need to get out. All the women there all their wives and partners were like death staring me. I was like, sorry. And then I went I went back and I did not have a good sleep at all. I had a panic attack in the night. I thought I was like choking to death. I have this weird thing that happens when my anxiety's bad. So I remember like getting out of the tent, like thinking I was dying. And then in the morning I woke up and I was in loads of pain and and I was just a mess. And I was just I just told myself, I'm not gonna do it. That's fine, I don't have to do it. And I went and sat in the river and I just cried in the river. I just cried. Wow. And then All it was like something out of a film, all these butterflies just started landing on my arms and they just flooded me. I was like, What is happening? Just sitting on this rock in the river and all these butterflies came over and was like, I can do this. This is Disney, by the way. This is Disney. It's a sign. And I just thought, I'll just go up to the refuge, it's just up there, and then I'll just go there. So went there, had a drink, met some people, and they're like, just come and do the first corner. And I was like, okay. So then I literally just went, just get to the first bend and then I did one switch back and I was like, I'll just get to the next one. Get to the next one. I thought, my god, I'm doing it. By the next I was at the top, I was at the snow, I was on the frozen lake, and I like, my god, I've done it. Now I've got to go back down. But yeah, that was like the biggest anxious point. But then I thought if I can do this, I can do more. Was that a big learning thing for you then in terms of wow how to handle something like that? Has that really helped you moving forward, you think? Butterflies. Butterflies. Butterflies, yeah. Yeah. But it is that thing, isn't it? If you can just do one step at a time and get past that next step, it's yeah, just keep going. Yeah. So did you ever feel at any point that you just really were on that verge of giving up and coming home? Yeah, quite a few times. Yeah. There were I think I love animals so much, hence all the rescuing. Well you need to we need to deep dive. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And there were some really difficult things I witnessed with with animal abuse and stuff. And that that was probably the times where I was the lowest and thought, I can't do this anymore. and it's just difficult, like being away for months on end when you've got a partner and dogs at home and and also my parents didn't really know I was away. So I had to keep that. My dad doesn't know I ride, so hopefully you don't reach his algorithms. No, I've not seen them for years or something. Not really. I don't no, I do, I do, I see him, but he doesn't know I ride. You've been riding for seven years and he doesn't know. Yeah. And you he actually paid me never to get on a bike and I bought my van van with it. Sorry, dude. I love this. Dad Dad, if you're watching, we're really sorry. But and she rides past her dad and waves the buttons. Every day there's this woman on a bike with waves out. I mean, what's going on? Mitchell in man. So so that's a I mean that's interesting to find out. Obviously did the N C five hundred in your jumpers. Yeah. Did you prepare better when you went into Europe? So now you've got some proper kit on and you've got I I got some better stuff, but I I wore an Adidas Terex Cortex coat. It's quite ripped now. Please tell me you've got pictures. Yeah. Yeah, I've got pictures of my trip. I just don't have videos. Pictures will put But then on in this when I went to ICEN this year, I was still in the same yellow coat that's not waterproof anymore and it's got dog hole like rips from dogs chewing at it and all sorts. So So if there's any sponsors and any clothing brands, right? We know a few people could not forget Jade. Sort of dog proof for our next adventure around the world with Jade Wright. But Nox helped me out with Actual clothes and then it was just the waterproofs that I got. Not so good. Wasn't a bin liner, was it? No. Good. My friend did that in the Pyrenees though. She walked she used a bin liner to sit on because her seat was very water absorbent, so she would sit on a seat of bin liner. Every moment she kept slipping every bend and we're like, is she gonna make it? I think a lot of people have done that. That's all I've not. I got the cheap Gore-Tex Ex Military, you know, the surplus store, twenty quid Camo Gore-Tex, but they do not work with the yellow Adidas coat. Everyone was How did you stay on the bike? 'Cause they're very slippery. You just go, I know 'cause I wear them. They've six. I had one of those mesh covers. On the sea. And it would stop, yeah, it would stop the water just being a pool on the sea. I'm trying to get my head around how you would be bothered about them not going if you were wearing Tesco jumpers with them. I mean, I don't think this is. I didn't take Tesco jumpers on my five month trip, all right? Did you have them in your bag? That's not crazy. I I wasn't prepared for No. Even though I've read everything. Yeah, I obviously didn't write enough, did I? It's every clothing. motorcycle clothing brand in the UK going no And you need to ask. I do need to it it is we were chatting and get a job so I can pay for them if they don't give me There's a couple of things we're chatting off air, weren't we? The fact that you know like you don't ask for stuff and and other content creators they they are literally asking for everything and you don't feel it's right and we don't ask for it. He does, he does. I don't ask for it. You don't get I don't ask you still don't get you I know I should ask more but I've got some best friends. You've got lots of best friends. But I've got some best friends. I think Ed Miles you're gonna be watching Ed Miles, we're gonna have to introduce JT. You probably know Ed. If you know Ed Miles. Yeah, we have a leader. We have a leader. Do you not know Ed from biker heads? No. Everybody knows Ed. By the time this goes out you will you will know yeah, we'll Okay. Yeah. We'll make the connection. He's got some cracking bin later. You arrange by Tesco's And you can get them in lots of colours to go with your your worn out yellow. Nice. Bla black and white. So I wanted to know about these dogs. Okay. So I mean Andrew sent me thirteen pages of information. You must have printed it on like twenty five. Yeah. There it is. It is there. And I'm like I just saw dogs rescued. Yeah. What's all that about? So we already had three dogs before I went travelling. two Romanians and one from Sheffield. She's still lovely though. And she's from Sheffield. Yeah. Is that the breed? Sheffield. No, she's a Malinoir. So we've got an another Malinoir from Romania. And then a Carpathian Shepherd. He's our boy. Everyone else is a girl, but he's our boy. And then I could be here for a long time talking about my dogs. Yeah. Archie, Zeus, and Ivor. And then when I was traveling, I went so I was originally just gonna go from Albania to North Macedonia in one one day. I was just gonna do a little plop through the country. I'd had a bit of a rough time in Albania. I'd stayed in a dodgy hotel and thought I was gonna be on the next taken. And then that's the story for the next mad car. Yeah. No, that's definitely one of the book and the film. Yeah, yeah. Put my email address, they can send you the deal. Tom will drop that in all the Netflix. I don't know who you are. My friend used to work at Netflix. I missed an opportunity there. Yeah. Anyway. Go on. so I left Almania and I was like, I'll just pop through Kosovo into North Macedonia. And then I was about twenty minutes from the border of North Macedonia. I saw this tiny little puppy and I stopped and I ran back and I was like, my God, what are you doing on your own? It was a really busy road. And I got all my food out of my bag and started feeding her. And she had a little dried pasta. And I peeled the chocolate off my digestive biscuits and gave her the biscuits. And I was like, my God, I need to find somewhere for you. And my phone signal wasn't working, so I had to use my sat com thing, my Garmin to send texts very slowly. to my partner back home and was like, you need to find a rescue centre in Kosovo. I've got this puppy. And then it wasn't sending and I wasn't getting anywhere. And I was like, flipping a kim to leave her. I started walking away. I was like, I hope you're lucky. I was literally crying my eyes like, I hope you're lucky and you find somebody. And then she like followed me and she perked up and I said that. And I was like, okay, you're coming with me. You're coming with me. Yeah. It was it was a sign and I just Emptied my tank bag and figured out how to rearrange everything and I was like, You'll fit in my tank bag. Put her in my tank bag, is it put it up, made sure her head could pop out. And I was like, Right, guess we're gonna go find somewhere. And then rode up the road. And the guy was like, What are you doing? So I go, do you know anywhere that rescues dogs? And he was like, No, just leave it. And I was like, Okay, you're not my friend. I thought you were gonna say what are you doing? That's my dog Imagine. And then I so Nye had looked online and found what was meant to be a dog rescue and he sent me the GPX. I put them into my TomTom and I rode there with her in the tank bag. And I got there and it was just a farmhouse. And there was a little kid, he was about four, five, and he comes out and I s started speaking English and none of the family spoke English, but this little kid did. Did he have a clipboard with it in there? Welcome to the top rescue world. He was like, This is just our house. And I was like, How do you know English? No one else speaks English here. And he's like, TikTok. Thank God for TikTok for once in my life. And he just said, No, this is our house. You can't leave here. I was like, Can I camp here? 'Cause it's dark. It was getting really dark. And he's like, No, but bears, wolves, whatever he was saying. I was like, I don't think they're here in Kosovo, but okay. So I ended up just going to a hotel in the middle of the capital city, sneaking her in because it was not dog friendly. Yeah. Just zipped her up. Hold your breath, quick, run up. And then the guy in the hotel was like, TV shows trying to show me every channel. So I've got a dog girl. It's okay, goodbye. And then yeah, she pooed a lot. I gave her a wash in the sink. And then over the night, Instagram kind of found a friend who used to work for ABR. Yeah. He knew someone, he knew someone, he knew someone who had a rescue centre twenty minutes away. Wow. And the guy just said, Take her to this vet, get her microchipped, get her passported, bring her to me. I was like, I guess I'm keeping her then. That was that. So I took her the next day to the vets. She was very wriggly. She jumped out of the tank bag three times on roundabouts and all sorts. It was crazy. And then I think she might have like brain damage from it, 'cause she's really thick. She's the thickest duck I've ever known. No offense, Lucky, if you're watching. And nice name. It was a wolf. yeah, I know Del Lucky, of course. And then took her to Lul's Inn, who has a dog shelter, and he had about a hundred dogs. And he said, she needs go in quarantine. And here this is another puppy in quarantine who was called Boob. I was like, Okay, measure a new life with Boob. And I'll come and pick you up in a few months when I've done my trip. And then as I was travelling around Nye's mum was like, You can't separate them, they've grown up together. You've got to bring both. I was like, Yeah, but she's not c he's not called Boob. I'm not calling him Boob. So I met a guy on the trip. Mm. He was called Max. I was like, I'm gonna call the dog Max after this guy. And then yeah, went and picked him up the next February, bought a car, went and picked them up. That was a whole crazy story. And then yeah, we've now got Lucky and Max. But Max is actually a girl. Maxine. Maxine. Maxine. We call her Moo Cow. That's why she was called clearly. Yeah. They actually never get called their names, so they still travel more countries than us. Yeah. They've travelled a lot of countries. I'm really c what I'm really curious to learn though is when it seems like when you've got something in your head, you just go and do it. Yeah. And as far as the preparation wise, yes, you'll you'll prepare to go. But you don't get held back by if there's some sort of I'll just go and I if something if I need it, I'll get it while I'm there. Or if I need it I'll overcome that issue while I'm there. I think I think I'm probably too much of a thinker in that and No, I definitely am too. No, I am. I think I have to switch off that. I have to just tell myself, stop over planning, stop over preparing. Cause even going to the Pyrenees last year, I planned so much. I had itineries, I sent I made everything on camera. I was like, in the morning, we're having breakfast at this point and lunch at this point. And this is the route. And I made GPX files and I seriously overplanned. And then we got there and it was like, there's a massive storm here. Let's change our route. And I actually think you gotta just tell yourself, stop, stop worrying, just go with it. Whatever happens, happens anyway. Whether you've planned it or not, it's gonna happen, isn't it? I think you just gotta have an idea, I mean you've got an idea in your head, but not plan it to such a detail that if something changes You've got to be okay with that. You've got to be able to overcome and adapt. Yeah. So you just go with the flow and then that's how we do it all the time. Yeah, I I I I'm I I'm joking by the way. I think the moment you start thinking, I've got to do this and I've got to plan that, you need to just go, No, no, yeah. Stop. Yeah. You don't even need to book a hotel. You can book it on the day. That's very true. Because if there's a crazy storm and you don't want to ride to that hotel that you've booked, well then what? You either get soaked and miserable and have a rubbish day because you've booked that hotel, or you just go, Let's not really ride today, let's just stay in the same place. No, that's a really interesting so my feeling. When your waterproofs are like mine, you don't wanna ride in the bad way. No, it's it's that it's that sort of i in my head and and and and I agree with you, it is that over preparing. It's you know, is where's my bike where am I gonna park my bike? Is my bike gonna be safe where it is? What locks do I need to put on my But that's because you live in the UK. Yes. Once you leave mo as long as you don't go to Paris or a port city or Dublin or you know When you're actually out of here, I left my bike with the key in accidentally in Montenegro. Went for pizza a couple of hours later. where's my key? God. it's in the bike, never mind. No one's touched it. I left my jacket over the helmet on it. It's a it's a very UK like bike theft's really bad here. Yeah. And in big cities. But when you get more East people respect stuff a bit more, so I d I I do wonder if if the older you get, you know. Not saying that we're all old, but we are. Yes, I am. In comparison. No, I'm not. I I think I think there is that element of actually I mean I know for myself particularly, you know, it's like, I've got to plan this, I've got to think about time, I've got to think about responsibilities. and actually that probably stops me from being so spontaneous. just try it though, just try a a day of not planning. Not planning and just go. Yeah. It's very difficult for these guys to do that. I'll be perfectly honest. Like we can't even get out of the house at eight o'clock to go for a ride. I can't either. I'm not a morning bike. You can, right. Yeah, you you're probably you and Martin are probably on time. There's two other people that are not. Well actually In my two fence. I clean the bikes, I check the chain, I check the tires, right? He's in the Yes. Me how saucer milk over there, I do believe. It was once upon a time when you'd get up and the the tires would be down and your back would be flattened like That's very true. But no, I'm excited. So he just he just bought a new bike. Yeah. Did the next bike because of the tires. Yeah, I bought a van van. Yeah, big blue one. Probably one of my old ones. What what have you really enjoyed so far about content creating then? What's what's been the kind of thing you thought, that's that's really good? the experiences of like going to launches, that's getting wind and dined to go and ride new bikes. Yeah, Iceland. Tell us about Iceland. Other than it being really cold. Iceland. I had a long it was like seventeen hours to get there 'cause they sent me on multiple flights and yeah, I was a bit crazy. And then it was just wet and windy, got to ride the new bike. What was that like? You'll have to watch my YouTube video soon. Do you know what we'll do? I'm editing it now. yeah. Well not currently. Let us know when it's live. We'll all get So did did Norton approach you or did you approach Norton approached me for the Manx R launch in May and I thought this is a mistake. Who's who's found me? And I and I saw the email and it was only I think I had two weeks' notice so I just thought mm someone's dropped out and they've just asked me to step in. And then I asked the PR lady whilst I was there I was like, What was I a mistake? And she was like, No, no. I had been watching your content for eleven months now and we've had you on the radar. I was like, okay. So that's not bad. So some something's got to be going back. Brilliant, brilliant. Well done. Well done. And then I asked when I was on the Manxar launch, 'cause I'd not ridden a superbike or ridden on a racetrack. It was literally like, Whoa, I'm doing all of this and I said, Adventure bikes are normally my thing. Could I go on that that launch, please? And yeah. They all said that they like my Manxar stuff. So Yeah, there's a picture. I must have done something right. There's a picture of you that you again I think you shared the other day. Yeah. You come around that bend for anybody that didn't see that, it was unbelievable. Yeah, there's some really good I know, I it's not Jade, it's Jade Bryce. That's that's a mistake. That's a mistake I made. I was focused. Yeah. No fear. Loved that. I didn't I don't think I had fear on that bike. No. It was really good, really good. I love that bike. So motorcycling's really done a lot for you then it really hasn't. Yeah. Yeah. And it's it can only get better, can it? I hope so. Yeah, I think it I think it will. I think there's big things afoot for Jade Rides. Yeah, I've got a few things I'm hoping to Is there anything you can share right now? So I'm looking for well, Nepal is a is on the cards. But obviously Nepal right now is quite an awful state. So I'm hoping to do a a women's ride over there and host that for Free W or with alongside Free W, which is a women's charitable organisation. They help women over there, learn to ride, learn how they sort of don't give them bikes, but they basically loan them a bike, help them get a job in transport, like delivery type stuff. And then the women that ride and have the jobs pay small amounts back to pay off the bike. So it's kind of gives them a that's brilliant. Gives them something. They're not just getting a handout, they're actually earning stuff and giving it back. And so I really want to help them and and now Nepal's going through all these floods and awful things. It was horrific. Yeah. So one, I don't know if the trip can happen. Yeah. But two, I want to get as many women as we can. We need eight for it to be possible. Right. And got a group a group chat going with quite a few people. More than eight, so hopefully we can get it. Well hopefully when this goes out, maybe you'll get nine or ten. that'd be good. Is there anybody else we know going or? no, I don't know. Is Kim going? Is Kim going? No, she can't make the the the year 'cause we're hoping to do it next year. Next year, right. Yeah. But then with Kim, Street Twin Kim, she and I run Endoriders, So the endo riders, what what are you looking to achieve so last last year, this year, this April, God, it feels like a long time ago, we ran our first Endorride, I suppose you could call it. And we had a group of women come and ride the top the highest ten roads in Wales. we did it over a weekend and we had Storm Dave to battle. And it blew me off my bike at the top of the top of one of the Welsh passes. I roadly poly down a hill. Yeah, it was crazy. I'm trying not to laugh. I mean you're making me want to laugh at No, it was really funny. But so yeah, the the wind was just crazy. Anyway, we can go back to that. we did we did that and we raised a lot more money than we were thinking. Excellent. And we want to do more. So I think quite a few of the girls that did that trip are doing a training day, an off-road skills type. Day in a week or two in near Bristol. Okay. And then the next trip we want to do is possibly going to be a green laning trip. So me and Kim, who co-founded it, we are gonna have a chat when she's back from her holiday and see what we can do. So yeah, we're looking at some ideas to get more women, raise more money, and we want to make our own grant, like a fund that we want to sort of raise money for for this this pot. And then if a woman with endometriosis says, I wanna learn to ride a bike, w we'll pay f for the C B T or the train you know, we wanna be able to give back to women. Yeah. And we did originally think should we help pay with for surgeries and things like that, but it gets a bit messy with you know, what if the surgery goes wrong and we've you know, that kind of thing. So we're gonna have people hopefully apply for the grant. say what they wanting to do with it and then it'll go into a raffle type thing and we'll hopefully help a lot of women ride or do training or go on a trip or It sounds like you've created yourself another job anyway. I have. It doesn't pay that it's gonna take a huge amount of administration, isn't it, to keep on top of all of that. Yeah, even just making content for the social media. But I love that. I really love that. So another thing I want to do. I just yeah. When I have my head set on something like one of you said earlier, I just go, yeah, I'll do all of motorcycling, where where do you think motorcycling's going? I mean you mentioned about Potential decline. I mean we all know that. We see it. But there are there is elements of growth. There's a lot more women. Women are coming into motorcycling. What's your view in terms of where motorcycling's going? so obviously electric is one thing. road bikes aren't there yet though. I don't know how many electric road bikes you've Have you rode yet? you've yeah, the new Tel Mozilla. We've we've ridden one, haven't we? We've ridden some. I just But then for the off-road like the Enduro MX, there are some amazing bikes. I was watching some YouTube earlier of some new bikes coming out that that look incredible for that. So we've got the sort of electric push that's gonna happen eventually. but also Chinese stuff and Indian stuff is blowing up. It's getting a lot better than it used to be. It's gonna become the new Japanese market, I think. I think it's just gonna make the competition think. Yeah. Like a European manufacturers Japanese manufacturers, they're gonna have to think how they put everything together with regards to the customer. So when you buy a bike. So it's gonna be a lot more choice. Would hope so. And that'll that'll drive the price down. And that's where the biggest thing for anything now is to drive the price down. If you wanna get people in, it's gotta be affordable, but it's also gotta have that quality of it. Yeah, that's if you bring that in cut the costs, how are they doing it? Some of them are not. But if you double the amount of bikes going out from a manufacturer, you're gonna cover the cost. So There is ways that obviously they're looking at it, but I just think that the more the more the better. Yeah. As long as they're good quality. Yes. It is a weird one because we we talked about the fact we we have BMW. So always I've always I mean I learnt on a Honda and I got a BMW and I don't think I would try anything else. That's just me personally, just because I think I like I don't I don't I don't really I don't think it's about that. I think I think it's the the kind of the technology, the build quality, the kind of the premium. I think it's not right, okay. Sorry, you're paying for the hotel, we? No but it's a weird one because if I i I I've been asked this question loads of times, I've changed back a few times. I don't know what else would go and get. And I think for me I kinda go, Well, I like what I like and I don't really want to what if I try something It's not actually written at BMW, I don't think. I've got the keys downstairs, but I've got I've got some jumpers as well from this. But but I I do I wouldn't know what to go and get. I really wouldn't. I mean I've I've tried yours, yours is great. well you're both obviously saying, yours is brilliant, I love yours. BMW same bike. Don't make that noise. Don't make that noise No, we'll make that noise if we're on podcast. And Tom's is great, but Tom's is a BMW as well. But but I don't know what I'd I don't know what I would go and get. I really don't know what I'd do without trying to do cavity. I But you have to like So we've been lucky, myself and Andy, we've been lucky we've ridden a couple of bikes, different manufacturers. Yeah. And it's in recent weeks. In recent weeks. So I think just have a go. Yeah. You're not saying necessarily gonna you will always stick with something you know. I was a triumph person. I started off in Suzuki's, I went to Triumph and then I've gone to Kawasaki. But I love my Triumph. And if I could go back to Triumph, if they're right back, I'd go back. But if you don't try, you won't know. I had a Triumph Sprint S T ten five. okay. So It was my pride and joys, these guys will know. but if you don't try something, you won't know. Like we got the opportunity like ABR we've said in previous podcasts to ride the CF Moto That was an amazing and it was phenomenal bike. And it did make the cogs thinking, going, Hmm, maybe you should have a go on that. I want to have a go on this. The Yamaha Teneri. That's like the creme de la creme for us. Especially the one today with the nine hundred plots coming out. Yeah. It's okay. We need a moment, Andy. Yeah, we need a moment. I had a moment. I I think I think I gonna do some quick fire questions? my god. Have I pre prepared myself for these? you're you're okay. In fact you have pre prepared for these ones as well. Should we ask her some that she hasn't pre prepared for? No, let's not do that. It it seems like the quick fire questions of of of bread. It's gonna end five to about. That's why there were so many quick fire questions. I I'm gonna ask one I'm gonna we'll all ask I think we should all ask one question. All together. No. One, two, three. See if we come up with the same one. And I'm and I'm not gonna ask the normal question that I normally ask because I saw an Jade's answer to this question and I thought, That's really interesting. So the c the question was and so was the last one that we always normally do, and the question is If you had a few pounds left in your pocket, would you buy what sort of accessories would you buy? And you give a great answer. can you remember what you put down? I think I just said nothing. Exactly. Exactly. That's exactly what you said. And I thought that's really 'cause you said it's all crap or something like you said. No, okay. I think From memory, you said what's an overrated item? Didn't you say that? That was one of the questions. Yeah. That's what I said was all crap. All right, is it? That was about tents. Yes, load cycle specific tents. yeah. Another just gimmick that's just crap. Is that the ones you see on where they just Well you just see all sorts. yeah, you see them everywhere now. No. Don't use them. They collapse under high winds. Yeah, they don't look great. No. And they're heavy and they pack massive. Yeah. This isn't the question you asked. I'm just derailing it about tents. No, you're not. Loads of places are doing motorbike tents and they're just they're just crap. Sorry. So what would you buy then? What if if you had somebody in your back pocket for a tent? an MSR Hubba Hubber. Or Elixir. Again. MSR. Elixir, yes. I was just month trip. Yeah. Amazing. Amazing tent. And then I got the Hubba Hubber bike packing tent. And it packs. It's specifically for bicycles and it comes with things that you can put on your handlebars if you can take them off. And it packs short so that it goes in panniers. So the poles are in more segments so that they all pack within I think thirty centimetres. Don't quote me on that. I've not memorized. But it's really light. And when I did my first trip with the Elixir, I actually bought the tent cheap on ebay, it'd only been used a few times. And when I l set off, I think I was in Switz I was in France and I realised I was missing one of the poles, the top pole that sort of keeps the structure. It's so you can use it without but it looks a bit stupid. And I messaged them, MSR, and I said, I've I've gone travelling, I'm away for months and I've forgotten this pole. Can Can you help? Can I buy one? And they they were like, Yeah, we'll just send you one. And I hadn't even bought the tent user. But don't hope they're not listening, but I hadn't bought a new so for all they knew. They didn't ask for proof of purchase or anything, and they were amazing. And then they replaced it and they sent it. It was 40 euros to send it to Switzerland. They sent it to my sisters. And I was like, this is amazing. So we're a great company and they replace things if you need it. I wouldn't advise just buying stuff on eBay and then hoping that they'll sort it out. But they were really good, you've travelled lots of countries in the world. Is there anywhere that you would love to go that you haven't been to yet? Nepal. Nepal. No, there are lots of countries. I want to do Vietnam. I wanna ride top to bottom. get a scooter or a little bike and do that. I want to do some of South America. Mm. Loads of places. At least I've done Iceland now. Yeah. And I wouldn't do that on a bike again. I'd do it in a car or like a motorhome van conversion. But it was the wind Like people get like we were nearly blown off the roads, it was so windy, so after Wales I don't want that kind of wind again. Best motorcycle you've ever ridden Probably the Manx are. Yeah. Apart from the sidestand, I couldn't get it down. I couldn't put the sidestand down. So I'd have to have someone with me at all times just to come and run over it. I think my next question, would you buy one button? I would, but I'd probably w learn to weld and like put a blob on the on the end. Or I think it's all right with certain boots, but I just got brand new boots and they're really like stiff. Curved. No, they're like they're the heel bits like a proper curve. Great boots, but the they're just such a curve that I couldn't couldn't kick the thing down. But Yeah, I'd probably buy one if I were if money was no object. I'd probably buy one. They've seen in my review. They know, they know. But love that bike. That was it's nice to see Norton have come back having back big. And we saw one of the I hope they really yeah, I really hope they do well. I I think they've got the right backing now. Yeah. Certainly in the T VS are massive. Absolutely. They've been winning awards as well, haven't they? Left right and centre. I like the look of the bikes as well. I think I think Gareth invited us or suggested we could go down and get a two with the the Norton factory. I think we should take one that have you know, you come with us. Yeah. I'll wear a t-shirt and a sandwich box. I'll make that a sandwich box. Is it called a sandwich box? Sandwich board. Sandwich board. I'll wear a box too, why not? Might not be able to walk. It'll just be this head. We can make it happen. Over some Tusco jumpers. my god, we're gonna ask no. Do you have a motorcycling hero? Yeah, it's really cheesy though. Go for it. No, my partner. Nothing wrong with that. Well that's where it's all started, isn't it? Yeah, it's where it all started. And he just he just amazes me. He just he just goes out like his ride to South Africa was incredible in itself, like It was terrifying. He was writing a blog as he was going and some days he w I wouldn't hear from him for a few days and I'd be like, my God, see him on the tracker and just if he was he was stationary at one border crossing for hours and hours and I was like, my god, he's been kidnapped. They've le you know, all sorts of things going through my head. But he did that and then things just don't phase him. And then he comes back and now he's doing more enduro and hard enduro. He's just bought a trials bike and he just went and did his first trial with it. yesterday, Sunday, whenever it's Sunday was, and he did really well. Well, the results are out to date, but I'm assuming he's done really well. And he's going fine. I'm not looked at the results. He's probably a couple last but he just like in my when I'm doing anything, I'm rubbish on the Charles bike and I'm not very good when I get off the tarmac. I'm very nervous. I I overthink everything. And then he comes along and he's like, just gonna do that. And I'm thinking, my God And I hold my tongue, I'm like, you're gonna die. And he just does it and then he fails. And then he does it again. And he might fail again. And then he does it again. And I'm like, God, I wish I I just wish I had that. Mm-hmm. And I think that comes from him growing up with bikes. Like he's been on bikes since he was four. He's done road racing, a motocross, and like everything. And then I got into it quite late and I was I was brought up in like a You're not allowed to do anything, household. Sounding like my evil as well. You can have him on the pod. Yeah. He came he c we him, didn't we? Yeah, yeah. Jade, I think you undersell yourself. I definitely. Because that's what he says. I think you've undersell yourself. The stuff you've just spoken to us about through this pod, going to all those different countries. Not many people we haven't done that. No. Not yet. So I think You undersell yourself. I think you're doing things that people wish they would do wish they would do and haven't done. They'll think about it that I'll do that one day. Yeah. But that one day never comes. No. So I think you undersell yourself. I think really you've you're probably your own. Well, I am unemployed next year. So no, seriously, I and I don't say this about many people but you are truly inspirational. No. I'm not I'm not completely clear but but actually you've you've challenged me tonight to think that you know we I mean I'm a I'm I'm an overthinker, I over plan everything and But so am I. Yeah. But sometimes that gets in the way. It does. Yeah. So it's yeah. No you just are our biggest enemy though. Yeah. Aren't they? Yeah. You've definitely inspired me tonight. So thank you. Thank you. I think that's I think that's bringing absolutely brilliant guys. Do we have to do that? Yeah, no, we've got it. You could see my chopped off thumb. We we do this to try and remind someone. Remind someone. Well, I was gonna say, Jade, it's been an absolute pleasure having you on Just Ride Tonight and learning about who Jade Jade is. Thank you. Touch Jay!
