- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome to the Wired to Hunt podcast, your home for
- 0:06Speaker 1: deer hunting news, stories and strategies, and now your host,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Mark Kenyon. Welcome to the Wired to Hunt podcast. I'm
- 0:16Speaker 1: your host, Mark Kenyan. This is episode number one, and
- 0:19Speaker 1: today we are back with another RUT Radio episode in
- 0:22Speaker 1: which we are catching up with a handful of hunters
- 0:24Speaker 1: from all across the country this week to hear the
- 0:27Speaker 1: latest on dear behavior, activity conditions, and the tactics that
- 0:32Speaker 1: are working right now in the late season. All right,
- 0:46Speaker 1: welcome to another episode of the Wired to Hunt podcast,
- 0:51Speaker 1: and today, as we do each week during the hunting season,
- 0:54Speaker 1: we are here with a RUT Radio episode in which
- 0:57Speaker 1: we are checking in with a bunch of different hunters
- 1:00Speaker 1: across the country to get the latest on deer activity,
- 1:04Speaker 1: dear behavior, uh, you know, how different sets of conditions
- 1:08Speaker 1: are impacting deer hunting, and then find out what kind
- 1:10Speaker 1: of tactics, what kind of strategies these guys and girls
- 1:13Speaker 1: are trying out in the field right now. And uh
- 1:16Speaker 1: it's we're kind of edging into late December almost now, um,
- 1:21Speaker 1: getting into the real tail end of the late season,
- 1:24Speaker 1: I suppose. And um I'm sitting over here in Michigan
- 1:30Speaker 1: having just one heck of a hunting season. Here Batten
- 1:33Speaker 1: zero on everything I've tried to do. On the other
- 1:36Speaker 1: side of the line with me, as he always is
- 1:39Speaker 1: for ut Radio is Spencer new Hearth, who has batted
- 1:42Speaker 1: a thousand um. He doesn't seem to miss on any
- 1:46Speaker 1: hunt he goes on. And uh, I don't know if
- 1:48Speaker 1: you remember this. You know we've talked recently about all
- 1:51Speaker 1: the different ungulates he's killed. He's killed every different hooved
- 1:54Speaker 1: for legged animal there is out there this season, but
- 1:57Speaker 1: earlier this spring, if I'm getting this right, he killed
- 2:00Speaker 1: a a state record turkey of some sort, and I'll
- 2:05Speaker 1: have Spencer laver in this a bit out in the spring.
- 2:08Speaker 1: And then this son of a gun thinks, hey have
- 2:10Speaker 1: already killed all these other animals as fault, why not
- 2:12Speaker 1: try to kill another turkey? And he goes and kills
- 2:16Speaker 1: the number three bird in the state. So Spencer, I
- 2:21Speaker 1: I I feel like I just need to like rub
- 2:26Speaker 1: on your forehead or something like figure out some way
- 2:29Speaker 1: to get your karma to rub off on me. Um,
- 2:33Speaker 1: because every week I feel like I give you the
- 2:35Speaker 1: same crap about this happening, whether being an elk or
- 2:39Speaker 1: a white tail or whatever, a mule deer. Um. So
- 2:43Speaker 1: now I don't know it's it's it's uh, it's absurd, Spencer,
- 2:48Speaker 1: It's just absurd, but it's amazing. What exactly did you
- 2:52Speaker 1: do here? We'll back up to the spring in South
- 2:57Speaker 1: Dakota were unique and then we have the three main
- 2:59Speaker 1: species of these. We have Rio's, Miriam's, and Easterns. And
- 3:03Speaker 1: so I think it was it was right around Easter.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It might have been Easter Day. Um in the spring,
- 3:08Speaker 1: I killed the state record real grand turkey with my boat.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It was it was a triple beard and stuff. And
- 3:15Speaker 1: then just it was like four days ago I killed
- 3:19Speaker 1: an Eastern with my shotgun, which will be number three
- 3:22Speaker 1: in the state for firearms Easterns and so that was
- 3:26Speaker 1: a double beard. And uh, they're like once in a
- 3:30Speaker 1: lifetime turkeys, but especially for someone like myself. I'm kind
- 3:33Speaker 1: of a lukewarm turkey hunter. Like I I'm a much
- 3:37Speaker 1: better deer hunter. I think that I am a turkey hunter,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and I think about white tails year round. I don't
- 3:44Speaker 1: think about turkeys year round until I have a turkey
- 3:47Speaker 1: tag in my pocket, and so I almost feel a
- 3:49Speaker 1: little bit guilty that I probably don't appreciate these birds
- 3:53Speaker 1: like somebody who is a turkey nutwood, And it's how
- 3:57Speaker 1: someone feels who haunts white tails hard and then sees
- 4:01Speaker 1: the neighbor who goes out, you know, twice a year
- 4:05Speaker 1: in your cover rolls and then kills a booner. I
- 4:09Speaker 1: I feel like that's kind of what's happened here. So
- 4:12Speaker 1: these were just very lucky encounters for me to get
- 4:16Speaker 1: those two turkeys. And I don't want anyone to come
- 4:19Speaker 1: away thinking that like, I'm an exceptional turkey hunter. This
- 4:23Speaker 1: was my fifth turkey. I guess I am proud of that,
- 4:27Speaker 1: but it was just ship chance that they had five
- 4:32Speaker 1: between the two of them. Yeah, that's that's crazy, man,
- 4:35Speaker 1: that's awesome. I'm excited for you. Um, I think there's
- 4:39Speaker 1: just a lot of people that listen to this show
- 4:40Speaker 1: that don't like you anymore. But I'll tell you what.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Here's the issue is that I've got all these like
- 4:47Speaker 1: sponsors of the Wired Hunt podcast, and I think coming
- 4:50Speaker 1: up in two thousand and eighteen, there will be no
- 4:53Speaker 1: sponsors related to Mark Kenyon. Everyone's gonna expense The new
- 4:56Speaker 1: Heart is gonna be decked out with brand new Camo,
- 4:58Speaker 1: new bows, new ouck. You're gonna have like a new
- 5:00Speaker 1: ram truck and uh like a U TV from Yamaha,
- 5:05Speaker 1: and uh, everyone's gonna catch on to the fact that
- 5:08Speaker 1: you put them down, Spencer, So get ready for a
- 5:10Speaker 1: flush of new emails. Well, they're gonna be disappointed because
- 5:13Speaker 1: I don't see another booner next year or anymore state
- 5:16Speaker 1: record turkeys. Well, enjoy it while you got it then,
- 5:20Speaker 1: right will well Mark, you were just you know, Ohio hunting. Yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I am jealous. You still get to do some deer hunting.
- 5:27Speaker 1: So how was that for you? You know what? As
- 5:30Speaker 1: my season goes, Uh, there was no tag failed. Um,
- 5:35Speaker 1: but you know, I actually did see a little bit
- 5:36Speaker 1: of something of interest to you and to our listeners.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Two things actually. Number one, I saw quite a bit
- 5:43Speaker 1: of mature buck activities still on trail camera over the
- 5:46Speaker 1: past week. So um, that would be like the tent
- 5:51Speaker 1: through the eight or something. I had quite a bit
- 5:54Speaker 1: of movement on trail camera, including three, no two different
- 6:00Speaker 1: mature bucks still moving in daylight. Um. And actually in
- 6:03Speaker 1: the morning, I was getting am daylight pictures. One buck
- 6:07Speaker 1: had uh if I'm remembering this right, one of the
- 6:09Speaker 1: mature bocks a four year old had him coming through
- 6:12Speaker 1: one spot at like probably forty five minutes to an
- 6:15Speaker 1: hour after daylight in the morning one day, and then
- 6:18Speaker 1: another time I had another mature buck this was the
- 6:21Speaker 1: day beforehand, coming through like two and a half hours
- 6:24Speaker 1: after daylight in the morning, which I was kind of
- 6:26Speaker 1: surprised by. Lots of times these big bucks are you know,
- 6:29Speaker 1: back to bed very early in the morning in December,
- 6:32Speaker 1: but this was not the case. Um So that was
- 6:36Speaker 1: one thing of interest. Now, I will say that that
- 6:38Speaker 1: movement coincided with a big cold front hitting a very
- 6:42Speaker 1: cold front. Um that that brought the coolest temperatures of
- 6:45Speaker 1: the year yet I think for this area, um so
- 6:48Speaker 1: that maybe has something to do with it. Possibly also
- 6:51Speaker 1: the first snow of the year down there, not a
- 6:53Speaker 1: lot of snow, but a little bit of snow um
- 6:55Speaker 1: right around that same time period. UM. The second thing
- 6:58Speaker 1: I noticed this was on the second day of my
- 7:01Speaker 1: hunt down there. Um. I saw a lot of deer
- 7:04Speaker 1: activity this evening. Um. And what I think I saw
- 7:08Speaker 1: was a fawn that was either in estris or smelling
- 7:15Speaker 1: enough like she was an estres because I had some
- 7:18Speaker 1: like of that second that second rut activity that you
- 7:21Speaker 1: hear about in December sometimes where you get a fawn
- 7:24Speaker 1: that's coming into estres finally you know late, Um, she's
- 7:26Speaker 1: finally mature enough. I think that's what I was seeing,
- 7:29Speaker 1: because I saw six or seven different bucks all chasing
- 7:33Speaker 1: these doughs around, like bumping dos all over the place.
- 7:35Speaker 1: There was two bucks fighting. Um, it was like a
- 7:38Speaker 1: little rut fest right in this little area. I was
- 7:40Speaker 1: watching all these deer start piling in and buck started
- 7:43Speaker 1: coming out all over the place. All came into the
- 7:45Speaker 1: spot where these doughs were, and Um, this little dough
- 7:49Speaker 1: fon wherever she was going, there are these bucks coming.
- 7:52Speaker 1: And then after dark, I had another buck coming and
- 7:55Speaker 1: you saw him come across this field follow the exact
- 7:57Speaker 1: trail that dough took and followed her. I mean, like
- 8:00Speaker 1: for three yards. I watched him follow the exact path
- 8:03Speaker 1: that doe took all the way past my tree. Stan. Um,
- 8:07Speaker 1: So that was an interesting thing to see. Um. I'm
- 8:10Speaker 1: not saying that that's absolutely what was going on there, Um,
- 8:15Speaker 1: but it sure seemed like that. Um. You usually hear about,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you know, this kind of thing happening in early December. Um,
- 8:22Speaker 1: if at all many cases, you don't see it at all. Um.
- 8:25Speaker 1: In this case, it was like December sixteenth, I think
- 8:29Speaker 1: was the night that I saw this happening. So I
- 8:31Speaker 1: don't know what was going on there, but it was
- 8:33Speaker 1: an interesting observation. What we'll hear a little bit of
- 8:36Speaker 1: that secondary rod talk this week, but primarily a lot
- 8:39Speaker 1: of it is about what food sources to focus on
- 8:42Speaker 1: right now. And who we talked to in Minnesota is
- 8:45Speaker 1: Mike Fitzgerald with bow Hunting dot Com. And then we
- 8:47Speaker 1: go to New Hampshire and from the white Tail factor
- 8:49Speaker 1: is Brett Joy. Then we talked to Lindsay Thomas Jr.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Of q d M A in Georgia, and then we
- 8:54Speaker 1: talked to Mike con Suctor of Hartland bow Hunter in Missouri. Excellent. Well, Um,
- 9:00Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm excited to hear what's what we
- 9:03Speaker 1: got going on. I I don't know if I'm gonna
- 9:07Speaker 1: have any good news to share anytime soon. It's just
- 9:10Speaker 1: not been in the cards for me this season. But
- 9:13Speaker 1: I am going to try to get after some does
- 9:14Speaker 1: here soon. Um, So that will be my next exciting
- 9:18Speaker 1: hunt I think will be finally hopefully putting deer on
- 9:21Speaker 1: the ground and putting some in the freezer, so look
- 9:24Speaker 1: out for that spencer. My next exciting story will will
- 9:27Speaker 1: hopefully be a big mature dough soon. Do you have
- 9:30Speaker 1: any advice for me? Uh? No, listen to listen to radio.
- 9:34Speaker 1: That that's my best advice. There, you go, okay, Well then,
- 9:37Speaker 1: uh then I guess I'm gonna stop talking now. I'm
- 9:40Speaker 1: gonna let you keep this show rolling and I will
- 9:42Speaker 1: tune in once it's finished and learn a thing or
- 9:46Speaker 1: two about how to actually kill a deer, because I'd
- 9:48Speaker 1: love to figure that out before the end of two
- 9:49Speaker 1: thousand and seventeen. All right, Well, that this should turn
- 9:52Speaker 1: things around for you. Then talk to you, thanks buddy.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Before we get to our first update, they'll let's pause
- 10:00Speaker 1: to thank our sponsors at sick ge Gear. And for
- 10:03Speaker 1: this week's SI story, we're joined by Brad Joy, who
- 10:06Speaker 1: tells us about a memorable white tail hunt that didn't
- 10:09Speaker 1: go as planned. Well, Ross and I have had a
- 10:12Speaker 1: really challenging season this year, and I think one of
- 10:14Speaker 1: the fining moments of that season was in the counter
- 10:16Speaker 1: we had with a five or six year old bluck
- 10:18Speaker 1: in Kentucky that we called K two Um. I was
- 10:20Speaker 1: actually filming Ross we went into a specific area after
- 10:23Speaker 1: K two. Um, we hanging hunted right there and actually
- 10:26Speaker 1: we had that gear comes straight into the grunt call
- 10:29Speaker 1: um probably an hour after we got there, and he
- 10:32Speaker 1: came straight into five yards and stopped and Ross is
- 10:34Speaker 1: a full draw on them, and uh, you know, in
- 10:36Speaker 1: my head, I'm running the camera thinking this is a
- 10:38Speaker 1: done deal. We just you know, killed Ross's number one
- 10:41Speaker 1: Hitlassuck in Kentucky this year. And I'm sure Ross had
- 10:43Speaker 1: some similar thoughts in the said and we just needed
- 10:46Speaker 1: them to turn broadside, and he did turn broadside, and
- 10:49Speaker 1: as he did, Um, Ross didn't want to take a
- 10:52Speaker 1: walking shot, which is totally understandable from my perspective, and
- 10:55Speaker 1: he just kind of had him real quick to stop him.
- 10:57Speaker 1: And the second he heard that, he took off running
- 11:00Speaker 1: and Ross didn't get the shot. And we've never ended
- 11:02Speaker 1: up killing that deer. So it just shows you, uh,
- 11:05Speaker 1: you know, if you think you got all figured out
- 11:07Speaker 1: and you think you got one on the bag and
- 11:08Speaker 1: you know both, the fact of the reality of bow
- 11:10Speaker 1: hunting is that that's not the case and you should
- 11:12Speaker 1: never think like that. And um, it's a game of
- 11:15Speaker 1: extreme highs and extreme lows and that was definitely an
- 11:18Speaker 1: extreme low from ross and eye that year. On Brett's hunt,
- 11:22Speaker 1: he was wearing Sitka's fanatic system. If you'd like to
- 11:25Speaker 1: create a Sikest story of your own, or to learn
- 11:27Speaker 1: more about Sitka's technic hunting apparel, is it Sitka gear
- 11:31Speaker 1: dot com. Alright, and joining me on the line first
- 11:35Speaker 1: is Mike Fitzgerald in Minnesota with bow Hunter Die and
- 11:39Speaker 1: bow Hunting dot Com. Now, Mike in Minnesota, what would
- 11:42Speaker 1: you say the bucket activity has been lately on a
- 11:44Speaker 1: scale of one to ten? Uh skill one to ten,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I'd probably say the last a couple of weeks, i'd
- 11:50Speaker 1: put it probably five or six. Um, it has been slow,
- 11:54Speaker 1: but we're starting to see a little bit of maybe
- 11:57Speaker 1: secondary road activity. I was visiting something emily down in
- 12:00Speaker 1: this Deluse area and we actually watched a young buck
- 12:04Speaker 1: chase a doll red through my brother's backyard. So, um,
- 12:08Speaker 1: there's there's still a little bit of activity going on,
- 12:11Speaker 1: but we're definitely shifting into those late season patterns. Now,
- 12:14Speaker 1: you live in northern Minnesota in the Big Woods. What
- 12:17Speaker 1: does the wintering ground there look like for deer and
- 12:20Speaker 1: what do those food sources look like as to pull
- 12:22Speaker 1: some what they look like back in October or November. Yeah, well,
- 12:27Speaker 1: the you know this time of year, they were starting
- 12:30Speaker 1: to get snow depps where it's harder for them to
- 12:32Speaker 1: paw their way down to the ground. So um, even
- 12:35Speaker 1: in areas where there are food plots, the ground getting frozen,
- 12:39Speaker 1: getting harder for them to attain those food sources. So
- 12:43Speaker 1: we're starting to switch over to uh, really woody browse. Um.
- 12:47Speaker 1: You know, clear cuts are golden this time of year.
- 12:49Speaker 1: If you get a three or four year old clear cut,
- 12:51Speaker 1: there's a ton of brows in there for him. Um.
- 12:54Speaker 1: And then there's usually along those edges you get some
- 12:57Speaker 1: copper too. And so when the cold weather moves through. Um,
- 13:01Speaker 1: that's that's a great place to be. Now in the
- 13:04Speaker 1: big woods. Do you see the deer bunch up as
- 13:06Speaker 1: they would in some place like Iowa or Illinois. Uh, yeah,
- 13:12Speaker 1: it can be you know, it can be very very
- 13:15Speaker 1: different in a small geographical area. Um, right where I am,
- 13:19Speaker 1: which is just a couple of miles south of the
- 13:21Speaker 1: town of Ely, we have a bunch of these clear
- 13:23Speaker 1: cuts around here. There's a ton of good white tail
- 13:25Speaker 1: habit a lot of prowds for them. Um. But you
- 13:28Speaker 1: go ten fifteen miles north of me, towards into the
- 13:32Speaker 1: boundary waters, and there's areas that the deer completely vacate
- 13:35Speaker 1: during the winter. Um. And then you get some big
- 13:38Speaker 1: wintering yards. Um. There's a couple of different big wintering
- 13:41Speaker 1: yard areas nearby here too, and so some of the deer,
- 13:45Speaker 1: some of the deer stay put um. But but there's
- 13:47Speaker 1: a number of them that all that will completely migrate
- 13:49Speaker 1: out of an area for the entire winter. Now, with
- 13:53Speaker 1: the big woods hunting bigger than they are, do you
- 13:57Speaker 1: have trouble with gun pressure? Really surpris ive seen the
- 14:00Speaker 1: deer movement or is you don't feel that as much
- 14:02Speaker 1: there in northern Minnesota. Um. I wouldn't say it's as
- 14:06Speaker 1: much up here. I mean relative to during the bow season.
- 14:09Speaker 1: It's it's you know, it's definitely an increase. But Honestly,
- 14:13Speaker 1: in the nine ten years that I've been hunting exclusively
- 14:17Speaker 1: up here, UM, I've only seen while I've been out hunting,
- 14:22Speaker 1: I've only seen a rifle hunter in the woods probably
- 14:26Speaker 1: three times that whole time. So UM, I've certainly compared
- 14:30Speaker 1: to the vast majority of hunters across our beautiful country.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I don't have much to complain about, but it's still
- 14:36Speaker 1: definitely it's more pressure than they're they're used to getting,
- 14:40Speaker 1: and a lot of times they can be a lot
- 14:42Speaker 1: more susceptible to that pressure too, they you know, and
- 14:45Speaker 1: they they just have a lot of areas to rome,
- 14:48Speaker 1: So if they have a bad encounter somewhere, they can,
- 14:51Speaker 1: you know, just as easily take a half mile route
- 14:54Speaker 1: different direction to get to wherever they're going. So, but
- 14:57Speaker 1: you guys are capable of reaching some really uncomfortable temperatures
- 15:01Speaker 1: up there. Uh, how do you think that affects the
- 15:03Speaker 1: deer movement when you hit those negatives and everything blows zero?
- 15:08Speaker 1: You know, like any creature, they acclimate to um the
- 15:13Speaker 1: temperatures around them, so you know, late in the winter
- 15:16Speaker 1: it doesn't affect them nearly as much. But this coming
- 15:18Speaker 1: week we have a big cold front moving through. UM.
- 15:21Speaker 1: This morning when I woke up, it was thirties degrees.
- 15:23Speaker 1: By Tuesday are high is negative ten, So we got
- 15:27Speaker 1: a big cold front. It's going to be the first
- 15:29Speaker 1: real deep freeze that we've had for the season. UM,
- 15:33Speaker 1: and for those first few it's kind of like the
- 15:35Speaker 1: first snowfall of the season. The very first one. A
- 15:38Speaker 1: lot of times bill shut down for you know, a
- 15:41Speaker 1: short period of time. UM, So they're gonna hold tight.
- 15:44Speaker 1: They'll find some sit cover that helped keep the wind
- 15:47Speaker 1: off of them, to help keep the snow off of them. Um,
- 15:50Speaker 1: and that helped maybe retain a little bit of heat. Um.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And they'll start betting more on those uh self facing slopes.
- 15:57Speaker 1: So when the sun does come up, they warm quickly,
- 16:00Speaker 1: but it flows it down. But it's only temporary. And
- 16:04Speaker 1: like I said, by the you know, another month from now,
- 16:07Speaker 1: we get those temperatures and they won't think anything of it. Well,
- 16:10Speaker 1: you just reference this coming week. How do you think
- 16:13Speaker 1: that's going to look on a scale of one to
- 16:14Speaker 1: ten for buck movement there in northern Minnesota. UM, I'm
- 16:19Speaker 1: gonna probably say this next week, despite the cold, I'm
- 16:23Speaker 1: gonna say probably a seven. Um. Like I said, we're
- 16:26Speaker 1: starting to see a little bit of evidence of maybe
- 16:28Speaker 1: a secondary rock going on. And once they you know,
- 16:32Speaker 1: bunker down, hunker down for that first twenty four hours
- 16:35Speaker 1: or so that cold snap. Um, it's just gonna concentrate
- 16:39Speaker 1: their movement following that. So UM, I think it's gonna
- 16:42Speaker 1: be a good week to get out there and and
- 16:44Speaker 1: still that freezer alright, Mike, Well, good luck with those
- 16:47Speaker 1: last tags that you have in good luck staying warm
- 16:49Speaker 1: as well. Thanks for joining me. I appreciate it, Spencer,
- 16:53Speaker 1: I have a good one alright, and joining me on
- 16:56Speaker 1: the line. Next is Brett Joy out of New Hampshire
- 16:59Speaker 1: from Parallel for the three in the white Tail factor. Now,
- 17:02Speaker 1: Brett in New Hampshire, what would you say the buck
- 17:04Speaker 1: activity has been lately on a scale of one to ten,
- 17:08Speaker 1: Let's say it's about the five. I think it's it's
- 17:11Speaker 1: we're especially in New Hampshire, We're gonna an interesting time
- 17:15Speaker 1: frame because the deer have been pressured for the better
- 17:18Speaker 1: part of six weeks with musloader and rightful season. UM.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I will say the season just ended, so UM just
- 17:25Speaker 1: may not be super pertinent to this year, but maybe
- 17:27Speaker 1: next year or if there's some surrounding states that are
- 17:29Speaker 1: still open, might be ultimate information. But I think a
- 17:32Speaker 1: lot of the surrounding states are in similar situations. The
- 17:35Speaker 1: Northeast traditionally has very long done seasons to the rut
- 17:37Speaker 1: that extended in December UM with no break. So I
- 17:40Speaker 1: think that there's kind of three key things here. The
- 17:43Speaker 1: person's pressure is trying to find areas that haven't been pressured.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Um where the deer movie uh naturally in and you
- 17:49Speaker 1: know what's out without the intense pressure. If you can
- 17:52Speaker 1: find those areas, UM, the buck activity is going to
- 17:56Speaker 1: be definitely higher. UM. My property I hunt in New Hampshire,
- 18:01Speaker 1: I had uh a few mature bucks using using that
- 18:04Speaker 1: property here at the end of the season and using
- 18:06Speaker 1: my food plots, but there was all after dark or
- 18:09Speaker 1: right at dark. So UM, I have a lot of
- 18:11Speaker 1: gun pressure on that area and that definitely had an
- 18:13Speaker 1: impact on that movement. So UM, if you're hunting pressured
- 18:16Speaker 1: areas and you can't find out of those boxes are unpressured,
- 18:19Speaker 1: your movement is probably gonna be lower than five. UM.
- 18:21Speaker 1: If you can find an unpressured pocket a good food source,
- 18:25Speaker 1: your activity contentionally higher than five. The other thing that
- 18:28Speaker 1: I've got some reports on his second run activity, which
- 18:31Speaker 1: does occur, and so that kind of throws a curveball
- 18:35Speaker 1: of the mix. But the good thing about that is
- 18:37Speaker 1: I think that most of that centered around at the
- 18:39Speaker 1: food patterns anyway, So those bucks are gonna be coming
- 18:41Speaker 1: to food to check, you know, funds that might be
- 18:45Speaker 1: coming in for the first time. Um So, if you can,
- 18:48Speaker 1: I don't think you your your strategy will change much.
- 18:52Speaker 1: That's just something to be aware of. You might see
- 18:54Speaker 1: some activity. And actually I just funded in Ohio this
- 18:57Speaker 1: past weekend. I see a lot of the same stuff
- 18:58Speaker 1: in the northeast I do. In all Iowa, we saw
- 19:01Speaker 1: multiple blocks checking does and coming to food sources following does.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Even I stoppix five little deer that I was trying
- 19:06Speaker 1: to kill and he was on a dough and this
- 19:08Speaker 1: was two nights ago. Um So I've heard similar reports
- 19:12Speaker 1: to that. So you can still get some of that
- 19:13Speaker 1: daylight activity if you if you get a bucket clocked
- 19:16Speaker 1: on the dough or coming to check on the dough,
- 19:17Speaker 1: so that may be a factor will get them to
- 19:20Speaker 1: come come to food. Uh and during daylight, especially if
- 19:23Speaker 1: you don't have a scen area, that's one highly pressured.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Well let's say hypothetically that you have a tag and
- 19:29Speaker 1: there's just a couple of days of the season coming
- 19:31Speaker 1: up here near in the Northeast and you have not
- 19:34Speaker 1: been out hunting since maybe like Thanksgiving. What would your
- 19:37Speaker 1: set up look like and how did would it differ
- 19:39Speaker 1: from you know, like three weeks ago versus now, if
- 19:42Speaker 1: you haven't been out in a while, UM, I would
- 19:45Speaker 1: be focused on food sources. UM. Food and betting. Betting
- 19:50Speaker 1: may come into account if the deer on getting to
- 19:52Speaker 1: the food sources during daylight hours. If they aren't doing that,
- 19:56Speaker 1: then I'd be trying to backtrack them during betting. The
- 19:58Speaker 1: really really great thing we have a lot of the
- 20:01Speaker 1: northeast has right now with snow cover snowfall. UM. So
- 20:06Speaker 1: if you can get to a food source and maybe
- 20:08Speaker 1: a field, maybe a crop field, UM, probably not a
- 20:10Speaker 1: crop field if you're in New England, but um a
- 20:13Speaker 1: food plot or uh an oak flat or an oak
- 20:16Speaker 1: ridge or anything maybe even a clear cut that's grown
- 20:18Speaker 1: up with you know, good brows. If you can find
- 20:20Speaker 1: that preferred food source, you're gonna see a ton of tracks.
- 20:23Speaker 1: It's on droppings in those right in the food source. UM.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And if you're not seeing it, maybe STI at a
- 20:28Speaker 1: night or two. If you're not seeing anything there during
- 20:30Speaker 1: daylight and you know it's been pressure, I could backtrack
- 20:33Speaker 1: those tracks back to the betting or and you're gonna
- 20:35Speaker 1: find pretty quickly where they're coming from. This time of year,
- 20:38Speaker 1: they're not going to be moving that far um from
- 20:40Speaker 1: food to bed. So it's gonna be pretty easy to
- 20:42Speaker 1: figure out, I'd say, And if you can get in
- 20:44Speaker 1: between the food and bed, you're gonna be in good shape. Um.
- 20:48Speaker 1: And the closure to bedding on pressure geer the better.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I'd also be watching the window obviously, but i'd be
- 20:54Speaker 1: very aggressive. It's on a deer on a battern. Um,
- 20:57Speaker 1: you don't have much of the season left to go,
- 20:59Speaker 1: and after maybely don't wait. This is not the time
- 21:01Speaker 1: where you can wait if you you don't have a
- 21:03Speaker 1: limited days left. And here in a pattern, so a
- 21:05Speaker 1: little bit different situation than maybe if I was in
- 21:07Speaker 1: the Midwest where it had several weeks left and um,
- 21:11Speaker 1: you know, ample time to hot well this year or historically,
- 21:15Speaker 1: have you seen much for scribing for signmaking in mid December?
- 21:19Speaker 1: I do. I do see UM signmaking uh fox making
- 21:23Speaker 1: sign in December mid December traditionally that's actually been a
- 21:28Speaker 1: fairly good time year to see that. Maybe not as
- 21:30Speaker 1: prevalent as late October, but UM our rout in New
- 21:34Speaker 1: Hamps are our primary writer, our first rout. Usually I
- 21:36Speaker 1: won't say it's later than anywhere else, and we see
- 21:38Speaker 1: a lot more activity later maybe than some other places.
- 21:41Speaker 1: So you know, it's really hot from Thanksgiving through the
- 21:44Speaker 1: first few days of December. Um, so you're gonna we
- 21:47Speaker 1: see a lot of signs. Then there may be a
- 21:49Speaker 1: little all there, but then you have kind of the
- 21:51Speaker 1: dose that have coming late and then those those yearlines
- 21:53Speaker 1: coming in mid December again for the second rut, so
- 21:56Speaker 1: they almost kind of run together. So you'll see activity,
- 22:00Speaker 1: uh you know, right, activity as far as signmaking, rubs
- 22:02Speaker 1: and scrapes really through most of December. Obviously that can
- 22:07Speaker 1: be anecdotal. Not every property is going to have that,
- 22:10Speaker 1: but I'm not at all surprised to see you know,
- 22:11Speaker 1: a fresh scrape in the snow or rub um with
- 22:14Speaker 1: you know, hemlock, uh shavings on the top of the snow.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I found that all the time at the summer going forward.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Then in this next week or so, what do you
- 22:22Speaker 1: think that buckettvity is going to be on a scale
- 22:24Speaker 1: of one to ten, I think it's gonna probably remain
- 22:29Speaker 1: pretty consistent for the next week or so. Like I said,
- 22:31Speaker 1: that second right, activity will still be there. Um, it's
- 22:34Speaker 1: still gonna be of you know, the name of the
- 22:36Speaker 1: game will be finding food and bed and trying to
- 22:38Speaker 1: figure out how they're relating to each other and how
- 22:41Speaker 1: they're moving between the two and obviously whether it will help.
- 22:43Speaker 1: The more snow and the more cold, the more of
- 22:45Speaker 1: a pattern they're gonna be on, and I think the
- 22:47Speaker 1: more daylight active will be all right, Brett will great,
- 22:51Speaker 1: intel and good luck and whatever's left to your season.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Thanks for joining me, great, thank you. Before we get
- 22:57Speaker 1: to our next color though, let's positive think our spots
- 23:00Speaker 1: at white tailed properties and this week with white Tailed Properties,
- 23:04Speaker 1: we are joined by Dave Skinner, a land specialist out
- 23:06Speaker 1: of Kentucky, and Davey is going to be telling us
- 23:09Speaker 1: about the advantages of using a land specialists as opposed
- 23:12Speaker 1: to shopping for ground on your own. A big thing
- 23:15Speaker 1: about like the properties agencies are over professionals were not moonlighters.
- 23:20Speaker 1: This is our career. We do it full time. UM.
- 23:23Speaker 1: We are familiar with the area rules regulations. UM. We
- 23:27Speaker 1: know the deer deer herds where all deer hunters. Um.
- 23:32Speaker 1: And just having someone that can walk the walk and
- 23:35Speaker 1: talk to talk is invaluable. UM, you know, having them
- 23:39Speaker 1: there on the ground uh to to evaluate habitat or
- 23:44Speaker 1: evaluate uh propit land or whatever. Just having that expert
- 23:48Speaker 1: right there that's familiar with the area. Is so much
- 23:51Speaker 1: better than just dealing with UM with the owner one
- 23:55Speaker 1: on one, just because their primary goal is to sell
- 23:58Speaker 1: that piece of property. They don't care if your care
- 24:00Speaker 1: of or not. And that white Tip properties, They're just
- 24:02Speaker 1: gonna make sure that the US A buyer are are
- 24:06Speaker 1: being taken care of and UH and in the end
- 24:09Speaker 1: gett a good deal. If you'd like to learn more
- 24:12Speaker 1: and to see the properties that Dave currently has listed
- 24:15Speaker 1: for sale, visit white tail properties dot com backslash skinner
- 24:20Speaker 1: that's s K I N N E R alright and
- 24:24Speaker 1: joining us on the line next is Lindsay Thomas Jr.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Out of Georgia, the director of communications with q d
- 24:30Speaker 1: M A. Now, Lindsay and Georgia. What would you say
- 24:33Speaker 1: the buck activities been lately on a scale of one
- 24:35Speaker 1: to ten uh Spencer where I've been over the last
- 24:39Speaker 1: two weeks, it's been fairly low. UM, like a two
- 24:43Speaker 1: or three. We're post rut at this point in most
- 24:45Speaker 1: of the areas of of the of Georgia that I
- 24:48Speaker 1: hunt in Southeast Georgia, Central Georgia and North Georgia. UM,
- 24:52Speaker 1: and it's UM, it's been very low buck activity. Um, yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 1: it's been kind of tough. Actually, Well, lindsay, how about
- 25:00Speaker 1: the rest of the state or there's some areas that
- 25:02Speaker 1: should be expecting to see some rutting activities soon. Yeah,
- 25:06Speaker 1: in southwest Georgia, the southwestern corner of the state, it
- 25:09Speaker 1: kind of blends in with some of that late rut
- 25:11Speaker 1: activity you see in Alabama and into Mississippi. Most folks
- 25:15Speaker 1: know that, um patches of those states see a very
- 25:18Speaker 1: late rut often even into January and even February in
- 25:20Speaker 1: some areas. So Southwest Georgia uh fits into that that
- 25:24Speaker 1: puzzle and has kind of a December rut. So even
- 25:28Speaker 1: right now is we're speaking, they should be based on
- 25:30Speaker 1: all the data I've ever seen on that, you know,
- 25:32Speaker 1: the ruts should be happening in some of the southwestern
- 25:34Speaker 1: Georgia counties. I haven't hunted down there or talked to
- 25:37Speaker 1: anyone there this year, but um, they should be right
- 25:40Speaker 1: on uh schedule right about now, or if not, maybe
- 25:44Speaker 1: you know a little behind the peak of the rut there.
- 25:47Speaker 1: But for most of the state, we are well into
- 25:50Speaker 1: to post rut at this point. For the rest of
- 25:53Speaker 1: the state that's in that post rut. What are some
- 25:56Speaker 1: of the favorite food sources to focus on this time
- 25:58Speaker 1: of year? You know, uh, that would be any of
- 26:01Speaker 1: the cool season plots that that have been planted for deer,
- 26:04Speaker 1: particularly the brassicas like rape kale, turnips, radishes, um which
- 26:11Speaker 1: most folks that do food plots know that those leafy
- 26:14Speaker 1: green plots uh tend to become more attractive to deer
- 26:17Speaker 1: after they've been hit by a good hard frost, and
- 26:19Speaker 1: most of the state at this point has had that.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Even in South Georgia where my family's farm is, we
- 26:26Speaker 1: got some pretty good frosts a couple of weeks ago
- 26:28Speaker 1: in uh in late November. It's gotten a little warmer
- 26:31Speaker 1: here lately, but those those crops, if you have them,
- 26:34Speaker 1: are now coming into the you know, pretty well attractive phase.
- 26:38Speaker 1: You know, if you planted win or wheat, or oats
- 26:41Speaker 1: or rye, it would be the same. If you have
- 26:43Speaker 1: standing soybeans you left, or standing corn, of course those
- 26:46Speaker 1: are gonna be attractive to um. Another food source right
- 26:50Speaker 1: now that deer seemed to be turning back to in
- 26:52Speaker 1: many areas are any acorn in the red oak family,
- 26:56Speaker 1: which would be your southern red oaks, water oaks, laurel oaks, uh,
- 27:01Speaker 1: cherry bark oak things like that, UM, white oaks. Of course,
- 27:05Speaker 1: as we know acorns and the white oak, they tend
- 27:07Speaker 1: to be more attractive to deer and get gone faster.
- 27:10Speaker 1: They are gone now, UM, and or they are beneath
- 27:14Speaker 1: the leaf leader and have germinated, so they're not of
- 27:16Speaker 1: interest to dear anymore. But those red oak acorns are
- 27:19Speaker 1: still in the ground, still viable. UM. They have not sprouted,
- 27:23Speaker 1: They don't sprout to the spring, and they keep longer
- 27:25Speaker 1: because they have a higher tannic acid level. So now
- 27:28Speaker 1: deer are turning to those where they have them. So
- 27:31Speaker 1: if you've got water oaks or other red oak species
- 27:34Speaker 1: uh in your hunting area, check those areas out again
- 27:38Speaker 1: and see if you aren't seeing some patterns there with
- 27:41Speaker 1: all of these food source of spencer. Though, the key
- 27:44Speaker 1: now is going to be hunting pressure. If these areas
- 27:47Speaker 1: that I'm talking about, if you've got brassicas or winter
- 27:49Speaker 1: wheat or an area with red okay corns or whatever
- 27:53Speaker 1: that might be, but you've been hunting it all the
- 27:56Speaker 1: past several weeks through the rut and everything, UM, I
- 27:59Speaker 1: really doubt them. See much activity in those areas you
- 28:02Speaker 1: you really need to find some food horses now that
- 28:04Speaker 1: have not been hunted or or at areas that have
- 28:07Speaker 1: not been hunted, because you know, late season like this
- 28:10Speaker 1: pressure becomes a big factor. Um, I'm I'm looking, you know,
- 28:14Speaker 1: basing that on several food plots that I've got uh
- 28:18Speaker 1: cameras and and been hunting. You know. My I've got
- 28:21Speaker 1: a multi mobile album on one food plot that I
- 28:23Speaker 1: hunted over the weekend. Uh and and some other friends hunted.
- 28:26Speaker 1: No daylight deer activity was seen in those plots that
- 28:30Speaker 1: I'm talking about, But I'm getting trail camera pictures as
- 28:32Speaker 1: soon as we get in to camp of deer coming
- 28:36Speaker 1: in after dark and through the night. So, but those
- 28:39Speaker 1: plots were hunted, you know, through hunting seasons. So again
- 28:42Speaker 1: I think back over your historical pressure this season, try
- 28:45Speaker 1: to to you know, over these for the rest of
- 28:48Speaker 1: the season. Really the patterns should be any food sources
- 28:52Speaker 1: you can find that have not already been heavily hunted. Well, Indy,
- 28:56Speaker 1: there's a lot of theories and a lot of lower
- 28:58Speaker 1: out there from hunters on this secondary of rods. Now,
- 29:01Speaker 1: what is science and qtmy say about the secondaria rod. Yeah,
- 29:05Speaker 1: it's it's a real thing. Generally, what it is spencer
- 29:08Speaker 1: is doe fons those that were born this year, that
- 29:12Speaker 1: were born early enough or had good enough resources where
- 29:16Speaker 1: they lived to reach a critical body weight uh during
- 29:20Speaker 1: fall and and even during December. And in the south
- 29:24Speaker 1: that's about seventy pounds on the hoof. In the north
- 29:26Speaker 1: it's more in the range of about eighty pounds. Doe
- 29:30Speaker 1: fonds that again had the right conditions and we're able
- 29:32Speaker 1: to hit that body side before we really get into winter,
- 29:36Speaker 1: will come into estrus for the first time, and it
- 29:40Speaker 1: is often late. It doesn't usually happen with the peak
- 29:42Speaker 1: of the rut. It's usually in December, UH for areas
- 29:45Speaker 1: that normally have a November peak rut, and that can
- 29:49Speaker 1: often create a you know, little flurry of rut activity.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Bucks can you know, even though their testosterone levels might
- 29:56Speaker 1: have been beginning to drop off, the present of those
- 30:00Speaker 1: estrus dough pons will spike their interest again physiologically, they
- 30:06Speaker 1: can kind of crank back up. So you might see chasing, uh.
- 30:10Speaker 1: You might hear grunning and vocalizations and does running from
- 30:13Speaker 1: bucks and and bucks even fighting over these do phons.
- 30:17Speaker 1: So generally, when hunters are seeing that. Uh, it's not
- 30:20Speaker 1: so much a true second rut as it is these
- 30:22Speaker 1: do phons coming into estrus. You can have adult does
- 30:25Speaker 1: that did not get bred on the first cycle coming
- 30:28Speaker 1: back in thirty days later. But generally in most areas,
- 30:31Speaker 1: bucket do ratios today are are in pretty good shape.
- 30:34Speaker 1: And most of the quote second rut that you're seeing
- 30:37Speaker 1: is those do phons, you know, particularly in areas where
- 30:40Speaker 1: you've got good habitat and good herd management. That's that's
- 30:43Speaker 1: what is causing that. All right, lindsay, well, good luck
- 30:46Speaker 1: and what's left for your season, and thanks for joining me, Spencer,
- 30:49Speaker 1: thanks so much. Good luck to you too, alright and
- 30:52Speaker 1: joining us on the line. Last is Mike han Sucker
- 30:55Speaker 1: from Hartland bow Hunter in Missouri. Now Mike in Missouri.
- 30:58Speaker 1: What would you say the bucket he has been lately
- 31:00Speaker 1: on a scale of one to ten, Oh man, it's
- 31:04Speaker 1: been pretty pretty poor. I would say, uh, maybe a three.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I price say, yeah, I mean the main thing this time, Yeah,
- 31:11Speaker 1: you know that we need for buck activities cold weather.
- 31:14Speaker 1: We got the food and they're you know, they're trying
- 31:18Speaker 1: to get built back up from the long rut um.
- 31:21Speaker 1: But if we don't get the cold one. At the book,
- 31:22Speaker 1: activity at least in daylight is pretty minimal, So I'm
- 31:27Speaker 1: looking forward to some cool weather on the way. Right now.
- 31:29Speaker 1: We just touched on food sources there. What are some
- 31:32Speaker 1: of your favorite food sources to haunt this time of
- 31:34Speaker 1: year in Missouri? Uh? Really, you know, my favorite food
- 31:40Speaker 1: towards this time of year is probably corn. Um. We
- 31:42Speaker 1: leave a lot of corn standing. And it's been five
- 31:45Speaker 1: or six years ago Missouri, Uh, changing the regulations to
- 31:48Speaker 1: where you could have can manipulate the crops so we
- 31:50Speaker 1: can plant corn and then brush hucking down. And that's
- 31:54Speaker 1: been a really effective statisy for us trying to sew
- 31:57Speaker 1: white season with a bow and arrow. Um, you know
- 31:59Speaker 1: we can. We can put a hay bail blind and
- 32:04Speaker 1: put in the corn. We can mow about you know,
- 32:06Speaker 1: fifty black fifty square and and uh, you know most
- 32:09Speaker 1: of you are gonna be within bow range. So it's
- 32:10Speaker 1: pretty effective way to give him a nice and close
- 32:13Speaker 1: way season. No, have you noticed the change in bedding
- 32:16Speaker 1: this time of year as supposed of what it was
- 32:18Speaker 1: back mid November during their run. Uh, God of depends
- 32:21Speaker 1: on the area. Um. The food sources that do have
- 32:25Speaker 1: quality bedding close by. Um, the here seem to be
- 32:28Speaker 1: betting there, you know, not moving to terribly far from
- 32:30Speaker 1: from from those food sources, but um, the food sources
- 32:34Speaker 1: where you know, there's not a great the best bedding
- 32:36Speaker 1: due to all the fours being off the trees, they're
- 32:39Speaker 1: still still sticking to you know, some of the tighter,
- 32:41Speaker 1: a little sick areas. But you know, they definitely this
- 32:44Speaker 1: time year, they definitely prefer to travel less. It seems
- 32:47Speaker 1: like well from your social media, looks like you've been
- 32:50Speaker 1: on some dope patrol lately and on those haunts. Have
- 32:53Speaker 1: you seen any kind of secondary rutting activity. Um, I've
- 32:57Speaker 1: seen a little bit, a little bit of a little
- 32:59Speaker 1: bit of bumping around chasing UM nothing the we need
- 33:02Speaker 1: to pick that it was a dough. There was in
- 33:04Speaker 1: heat for sure, maybe mainly just you know, younger blocks
- 33:06Speaker 1: messing around. But UM, I have on some sail cameras.
- 33:09Speaker 1: UM it's been I don't know, probably a week or
- 33:12Speaker 1: ten days ago. UM had a buck that that was
- 33:15Speaker 1: locked down with the dough that wouldn't leaving her. UM,
- 33:17Speaker 1: and she was it was actually a faun. So assuming
- 33:19Speaker 1: she was coming coming in the heat for the first
- 33:21Speaker 1: time this year. Uh, and uh he was on her
- 33:25Speaker 1: when wouldn't I wouldn't leaving her aside? So what weather
- 33:28Speaker 1: patterns in particular? Are you looking forward late season like
- 33:31Speaker 1: this just cold weather in general, or would you like
- 33:33Speaker 1: some snow as well or maybe some wind? Yeah, I
- 33:37Speaker 1: mean cold cold weather is is the number one thing
- 33:40Speaker 1: in my opinion. Um. But also it doesn't hurt to
- 33:42Speaker 1: have snow, especially we we have a lot of standing
- 33:45Speaker 1: beans as well, and and um, you know, anytime he
- 33:48Speaker 1: gets any time to get over the snow cover, it
- 33:51Speaker 1: covers up all the other available food sources that it
- 33:53Speaker 1: is laying on the ground. And so standing crops really
- 33:55Speaker 1: good hot that time of year. So um, you know it.
- 33:58Speaker 1: It just depends on what you have available with food sources.
- 34:01Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean cold and snow, and in high
- 34:05Speaker 1: pressure you get a combination of all those and and
- 34:08Speaker 1: it's magical. Uh be touched on the wind to the
- 34:10Speaker 1: wind is another big thing that that. Uh, it's just
- 34:14Speaker 1: it's been been brutal lately for us. We've had some
- 34:17Speaker 1: you know, decent steady winds and then last night I
- 34:19Speaker 1: just die And then, um, I mean good deer are
- 34:22Speaker 1: so skinnis this time of year. You know, everything's loud
- 34:24Speaker 1: and cutchy, and there's no vegetation and they've been hunted
- 34:27Speaker 1: all year and so you know, really having a nice
- 34:29Speaker 1: steady wind it really will help, um cover up some
- 34:33Speaker 1: of that any noises and help us make the deer
- 34:36Speaker 1: feel more comfortable for whatever reason, you know, you think
- 34:39Speaker 1: they would be, Um, you know, you think they'd be
- 34:42Speaker 1: more calm when it's when the wind is calm and
- 34:44Speaker 1: they can hear really well. But when you know, a
- 34:46Speaker 1: nice steady ten mile r wind or whatever, that seems
- 34:48Speaker 1: to be the the time when there's you know, the
- 34:50Speaker 1: most the most calm, and they're in there in their elements. Well,
- 34:54Speaker 1: I know you still have a buck tag and your
- 34:55Speaker 1: wife and and Sean as well, and with us approaching
- 34:58Speaker 1: you know the last thirt is it the season? Will
- 35:01Speaker 1: you do anything really aggressive like hunting mornings at this point?
- 35:04Speaker 1: Will you stick strictly with the evenings? Yeah, we don't.
- 35:08Speaker 1: I don't mess with the morning's really really much this
- 35:11Speaker 1: time of year. Um, I would if I had something
- 35:14Speaker 1: to leave me to believe that, you know, be able
- 35:16Speaker 1: to kill a buck in the morning. Um, it's just tough.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Like I said, with a short travel from food to bed. Um,
- 35:23Speaker 1: and a lot of times you know they're they're going
- 35:24Speaker 1: back to bed not as before before daylight. So um,
- 35:29Speaker 1: it just makes it difficult. So um, don't mess too
- 35:32Speaker 1: much with the mornings. But as far as getting aggressive,
- 35:34Speaker 1: I mean, um, you know, yeah, we we definitely you know,
- 35:37Speaker 1: when it gets down to the wire, we try to
- 35:39Speaker 1: try to make it count. But uh, you know, a
- 35:41Speaker 1: lot a lot of times we're relying heavily on trail cameras,
- 35:44Speaker 1: are just waiting for everything to be right because access
- 35:47Speaker 1: is super cup this time of year without bumping the year.
- 35:49Speaker 1: So um, you know, got hunt hunt smarter, not harder.
- 35:53Speaker 1: We're going forward. Then is next week or so? I'm like,
- 35:55Speaker 1: what do you think that bucket activity will be on
- 35:57Speaker 1: a scale of one to ten in Missouri over the
- 36:01Speaker 1: next week. I would say it's gonna skyrocket. Um, we
- 36:04Speaker 1: have our first real solid told front coming through looks
- 36:07Speaker 1: like and uh, I have to say it's probably gonna
- 36:09Speaker 1: be probably an eight. I'd give it a nine or
- 36:12Speaker 1: ten if we had a bunch of snow coming. But um,
- 36:15Speaker 1: you know, highs in the thirties, loads and the tunes
- 36:17Speaker 1: um all coinciding with Christmas so we're gonna be uh
- 36:21Speaker 1: having a dip out on some Christmas parties and stuff,
- 36:23Speaker 1: but no, uh, we'll uh, we'll make sure that we
- 36:28Speaker 1: do our best to get get get in the roads
- 36:29Speaker 1: to capitalize on the cold front. But hopefully it's not
- 36:32Speaker 1: gonna shoot back up. I mean we've had some you know,
- 36:34Speaker 1: the past couple of weeks and fifty sixty degree days
- 36:37Speaker 1: on on a regular basis. I mean it's just now
- 36:39Speaker 1: dropping into the upper forties right now, and the fun
- 36:42Speaker 1: has been down for about an hour, so it's uh,
- 36:44Speaker 1: it's been unfeasibly warm. Alright, Mike, Well, I like your
- 36:48Speaker 1: optimism and I hope that translate to some tags paunch
- 36:51Speaker 1: for for Harlem bow hunters. So thanks for joining me. Yeah,
- 36:54Speaker 1: I appreciate you. Luck everybody, all right, before we move on,
- 36:58Speaker 1: and want to take a quick break here to thank
- 37:00Speaker 1: our partners at Maven Optics for their support of this podcast,
- 37:04Speaker 1: and also why don't let you know about a couple
- 37:06Speaker 1: of great deals coming from Maven for the holidays right now.
- 37:09Speaker 1: First and foremost, Maven is offering through December thirty one
- 37:15Speaker 1: all of their C series binoculars, and the new C
- 37:18Speaker 1: series just came out with this year, are there more
- 37:20Speaker 1: mid level price point binocular and I got a pair
- 37:23Speaker 1: of these myself this year, have been testing them, and
- 37:26Speaker 1: I got to say that the quality of optic you're
- 37:28Speaker 1: getting is darn near close the very top tier that
- 37:31Speaker 1: I've ever experienced. But at the same point, you're talking
- 37:34Speaker 1: about a price point that is is much more reasonable
- 37:37Speaker 1: that you see from almost any other high end binocular
- 37:41Speaker 1: or optic out there. We're talking three and change price
- 37:45Speaker 1: point for their C one binocular, which is the one
- 37:47Speaker 1: I'm using so terrific BYO mid level price point that
- 37:51Speaker 1: I think is is really reasonable and like I said,
- 37:54Speaker 1: right now through December one off, so definitely check that
- 37:57Speaker 1: out if you're in the market for a new BUYO
- 37:59Speaker 1: this season. And then secondly, free custom upgrades on all
- 38:03Speaker 1: of their B and S series optics. So you pay
- 38:05Speaker 1: for your frame, you know, the basically binocular, but then
- 38:08Speaker 1: all the customizations you want, the custom colors and camo
- 38:11Speaker 1: whatever you want on that nyl those upgrades are free.
- 38:14Speaker 1: So both of these promos are live through December one.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Check it out at maven built dot com. And that
- 38:23Speaker 1: concludes this week's episode of Wired Haunts. Wrote Radio, I
- 38:28Speaker 1: want to wish everybody a merry Christmas in a happy
- 38:30Speaker 1: New Year. And this is the last wrote radio episode
- 38:34Speaker 1: of now Mark and I will be back at the
- 38:37Speaker 1: beginning of January and we're gonna have one episode that
- 38:40Speaker 1: kind of recaps the entire season and takes a mackerel
- 38:43Speaker 1: look at the White Tailed Year in review. Would like
- 38:48Speaker 1: to think our sponsors at Sitka, Matthew's, Maven Yettie, White
- 38:53Speaker 1: Tail Properties, white Tail Institute, Untera and Trophy Ridge. And
- 38:57Speaker 1: we thank you guys for listening. As always, stay wired on.
- 45:45Speaker 1: So before we move on, let's take a quick second
- 45:47Speaker 1: to thank our partners at White Tailed Properties,
