- 0:00Speaker 1: Okay, you guys, Eventbrite did this whole thing about how
- 0:03Speaker 1: things like puzzle nights, flower arranging classes, music bingo, and
- 0:08Speaker 1: silent book clubs, like they're trending up.
- 0:10Speaker 2: They're getting so popular right now.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Silent book clubs?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Yeah, silent book clubs.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Literally where you just get together with a group of
- 0:18Speaker 1: friends and read.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Like go to a library so you can't talk?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Go to someone's house and everyone sits on the couches
- 0:24Speaker 2: and reads.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Okay.
- 0:25Speaker 2: And they're calling this soft socializing.
- 0:28Speaker 1: So this is where you are hanging out like you're
- 0:30Speaker 1: being social because you're with other people.
- 0:33Speaker 2: But it's really low pressure.
- 0:35Speaker 1: There's not like an intense activity happening.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Kyle, have you heard of a silent book club? Have
- 0:40Speaker 3: you been invited to a silent book?
- 0:42Speaker 1: I would never be invited to a book club because
- 0:44Speaker 1: people know I don't enjoy reading.
- 0:45Speaker 2: You've heard of them?
- 0:46Speaker 1: I have been, I haven't heard of that, no, until
- 0:49Speaker 1: I read this article, but I have heard of like
- 0:51Speaker 1: flower arranging classes.
- 0:52Speaker 2: In fact, that's one of the scenes in that team
- 0:55Speaker 2: mom's baseball show.
- 0:56Speaker 1: They're doing a flower arranging class and they're just kind
- 0:59Speaker 1: of like sitting and arranging flowers together. And that's like
- 1:02Speaker 1: a soft socializing moment.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Is there like maybe going to run errands with your friends?
- 1:06Speaker 2: That's the first one on the list.
- 1:07Speaker 5: Oh, is it? Yeah.
- 1:08Speaker 1: You're getting the stuff you need to get done that
- 1:10Speaker 1: you normally would have to do. And so it's not
- 1:12Speaker 1: really like, an actual socialization, but you're with your buddy.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Let's go to Target together.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Like, Hey, let's go.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Let's go do the things that are like really annoying
- 1:23Speaker 1: togethers and get them done.
- 1:24Speaker 2: So it's like fun.
- 1:25Speaker 5: So this article is about things that people are doing
- 1:28Speaker 5: like this, that they said.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Soft socializing is a huge trend right now because there's
- 1:32Speaker 1: so much like, like people's social battery gets too full,
- 1:36Speaker 1: but like they still.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Say it's really important to be around people.
- 1:39Speaker 3: And have friends. It's not a huge get together.
- 1:41Speaker 1: It's not going to drain your social battery. It's actually
- 1:44Speaker 1: going to fill you up. Like it's going to fulfill you.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Well, the thing about running errands together, I think that's
- 1:49Speaker 5: something people have done forever. I don't think a silent
- 1:52Speaker 5: book club has been around for a while.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Not heard of that one.
- 1:54Speaker 5: That one's a new one. Like going to the front
- 1:56Speaker 5: of Target, like the people do that. Remember about naming
- 2:00Speaker 5: things differently that we've already done for a long time?
- 2:03Speaker 1: Yes, and that's what I actually kind of feel like
- 2:05Speaker 1: Silent Book Club is. So imagine Silent Book Club, it's
- 2:07Speaker 1: like your friend just says, hey, we're reading that same
- 2:10Speaker 1: book together.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Maybe you should just come over and we'll just read it.
- 2:13Speaker 1: And it's like just hanging out with your friend and
- 2:16Speaker 1: kind of being able to do nothing or even separate things.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So maybe like Peyton, you're really enjoying this book.
- 2:21Speaker 2: And I'm like doing my cricket stuff.
- 2:23Speaker 1: And it's like, you're not really socializing, but you are
- 2:25Speaker 1: kind of, because you're doing it.
- 2:26Speaker 5: So let me, so just, I'm trying to predict, pretend
- 2:29Speaker 5: that like Rich comes over and we're reading a book
- 2:31Speaker 5: together quietly, but I hear him turn the page before me.
- 2:35Speaker 3: I'm like, what the hell? He's reading too fast.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Oh my God, I just had a flashback to fifth grade.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Whoa, whoa, whoa. You're reading way low. What page are
- 2:43Speaker 3: you on? What page are you on?
- 2:44Speaker 2: No way.
- 2:45Speaker 3: That was the worst. Would I have to text him
- 2:47Speaker 3: because we can't talk? What page are you on? Oh
- 2:49Speaker 3: my gosh. Yeah.
- 2:50Speaker 1: No, I remember like in fifth grade, we would have
- 2:53Speaker 1: reading time.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And I remember we could sit anywhere we want.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So we would like sit under the table in the
- 2:57Speaker 1: room and like, I would sit right next to my
- 2:58Speaker 1: best friend.
- 2:59Speaker 2: She read so fast.
- 3:00Speaker 3: That's what I'm talking about.
- 3:00Speaker 2: And I would just page turn, page turn.
- 3:01Speaker 1: And that's all I could think about. And so then
- 3:03Speaker 1: I'm like, well, now I'm not reading the book because
- 3:04Speaker 1: I'm just hearing the page. So if you're going to
- 3:06Speaker 1: do that, maybe some light music, not with words, just
- 3:09Speaker 1: some instrumentals would.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Help with that. Are there more silent things? What's it called?
- 3:14Speaker 3: Not necessarily silent.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Not silent. They're soft socializing.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So like, John Jay, this is a good one for
- 3:19Speaker 1: you because you have five dogs, like get a buddy
- 3:21Speaker 1: and go walk your dogs together. And so it's like,
- 3:24Speaker 1: it's not like this big thing. You're just crafting together. Well,
- 3:30Speaker 1: it's not like a, we have to make an appointment
- 3:32Speaker 1: at this restaurant and we're going, you know, we're going
- 3:34Speaker 1: to do this.
- 3:35Speaker 5: I feel like he'd be using my, hey, I got
- 3:38Speaker 5: five dogs. I'm gonna take, let's soft socialize. I want
- 3:41Speaker 5: to take it for a walk. And they'll be like,
- 3:42Speaker 5: I think you're using me to be your dog walker.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Soft socializing, it's fine. That's because that's what they call it.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Well, think watching a TV show together.
- 3:50Speaker 1: It's like you're not really talking. It doesn't take a
- 3:52Speaker 1: whole lot of energy, but you're still getting that connection.
- 3:55Speaker 5: I would like that from you, your house, me, and
- 3:57Speaker 5: my house. I don't want you to come over and
- 3:59Speaker 5: watch TV.
- 4:00Speaker 2: You need to be around people.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Or even if you just go to a coffee shop,
- 4:05Speaker 4: you have some work that you have to do, call
- 4:06Speaker 4: your bestie, be like, hey girl, I know you're also
- 4:09Speaker 4: really busy, let's just pound this out together.
- 4:11Speaker 1: That's such a good, I feel like that's a great example.
- 4:13Speaker 1: You can tell Peyton's like, Such a good friend. It's
- 4:16Speaker 1: so hard explaining things like this, like socializing to John Jay.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Here, let me help you. You're right. You're absolutely right.
- 4:21Speaker 3: It's hard to be super.
- 4:23Speaker 5: What you guys are into is soft socializing, what John
- 4:25Speaker 5: Jay is into is called alone maxing.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Right, yeah.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:29Speaker 2: It's the exact opposite.
- 4:32Speaker 5: All these things you're talking about also, I think, work
- 4:34Speaker 5: for couple bonding.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Like if you're dating somebody or married, these are.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 5: Like it'd be fun to... If I had to read,
- 4:40Speaker 5: I would like to read in the same room as
- 4:41Speaker 5: my wife and she's on that side of the room.
- 4:44Speaker 5: I'm on one side like that. We can read like that.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Kadeem plays his video games every night when I read
- 4:48Speaker 4: my book. That's the only, that's like our quiet time.
- 4:50Speaker 2: We're not on our phones.
- 4:52Speaker 4: He's playing the video every now and then I'll look
- 4:53Speaker 4: up and see what he's doing. And he gets mad
- 4:55Speaker 4: at me.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Stop watching me play. It's the reason I fumbled.
- 4:57Speaker 3: You know what I like to do?
- 4:58Speaker 5: I've only seen this a few times on social media.
- 5:00Speaker 5: I think it'd be fun to do it. Actually, if
- 5:03Speaker 5: all of us do it, I know it's not never
- 5:04Speaker 5: going to happen, but have you seen that thing where
- 5:05Speaker 5: you go to a club and everyone wears headphones? Yeah.
- 5:10Speaker 5: But then when you ever seen someone film it, that's not,
- 5:13Speaker 5: The hedge is quiet. So all these people have headphones
- 5:16Speaker 5: on and they're dancing.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 3: And you just hear the dancing. You hear. What?
- 5:20Speaker 4: Spoiler. We literally do silent disco every day. There's been
- 5:23Speaker 4: so many times we've been in here in the studio
- 5:25Speaker 4: listening to something vibing and everyone.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Else in here.
- 5:27Speaker 3: No, no, no. I know. But this is going to
- 5:30Speaker 3: a club. Everyone has the headphones on.
- 5:32Speaker 2: That's true.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Everyone's playing and listening to.
- 5:35Speaker 5: The same song and they're dancing. 40 people dancing to
- 5:39Speaker 5: a song, the same song, and then someone filming it.
- 5:42Speaker 3: It sounds weird.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Yeah, because all you hear is feet shuffling and probably
- 5:46Speaker 1: loud breathing.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Maybe some people kind of singing it.
- 5:49Speaker 4: A daytime silent disco.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Let's just, okay, I got an even better idea. And
- 5:56Speaker 2: John Jay, I think you'll like this.
- 5:57Speaker 1: We just bring the disco ball that's in Nick's office
- 6:00Speaker 1: right now in here. We turn on like a strobe
- 6:04Speaker 1: light and.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Then just put the headphones on and there we go.
- 6:07Speaker 4: And it's back.
- 6:09Speaker 3: It's fun.
- 6:09Speaker 2: We'll soft socialize together.
- 6:11Speaker 5: All right.
- 6:12Speaker 3: That's a great idea. Maybe we'll do it. If anyone
- 6:13Speaker 3: knows where one of those discos.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Are, we'll go.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Let's go.
- 6:17Speaker 3: You know, like a 4 p.m. disco dance.
- 6:19Speaker 2: John Jay and Rich.
