- 0:01The people have spoken. That's something I don't think I
- 0:04would take a chance out of. In my opinion, 218 strikeouts
- 0:08were a guy who was his third year in the league.
- 0:10Now that's a lot of strikeouts. And they're here to deliver.
- 0:15He wants to be on a competitor, period.
- 0:19Bringing you the facts. Jose brings trash man.
- 0:23I fell for that hard. While keeping you up to date.
- 0:26Man, like what a like question mark that is after you leave
- 0:30Cole, you get him out of the game and all of a sudden you
- 0:32don't know what you're going to get on.
- 0:33The other side on all fantasy baseball news.
- 0:36There's a slouch, man. He's just a a potential he's a
- 0:40slug dark horse, winner of a Cy Young.
- 0:43Candidate, welcome to bourbon involved.
- 0:46Averaged like 160 strikeouts prior to his breakout year.
- 0:49I don't even call that breakout year.
- 0:50I would call that a career year because I don't think you have
- 0:53another year we're going to talk about.
- 0:55A lot more baseball. This is just the beginning guys.
- 0:57That's right. I'll call a Belton up.
- 1:03So look man. Come down here.
- 1:16All right, man, this is Bourbon and ball.
- 1:18I'm Doug. I'm alongside my lifelong friend
- 1:21over here, Mikey V. We're here to bring you some
- 1:23some baseball news, some fantasy news, some fantasy numbers, and
- 1:28just an overall great fantasy conversation here with baseball.
- 1:31Everything you do with baseball here from Bourbon and ball.
- 1:33So of course, the real question is why bourbon?
- 1:35Why ball? Well, we like bourbon, like to
- 1:37sip out of our our bourbon and ball bourbon glass right here.
- 1:42My first sip of the night, actually.
- 1:45Oh, the best if they argue. I know I took a long nap and IA
- 1:50very long nap and I woke up and it was like 6 O clock and I was
- 1:53like so yeah. So we drink bourbon and we talk,
- 1:57we talk baseball. We talk specifically fantasy
- 2:00baseball, but there is obviously baseball talk within there.
- 2:03So our numbers and our information that we give you as
- 2:07far as fantasy relevance is from our ESPN points league.
- 2:10We can do it now. It's a head to head league for
- 2:14over 20 years now, so man, a long time.
- 2:20So I don't want to say we're experts, but we're at least
- 2:23knowledgeable with the trends of some of some of the players that
- 2:25have been around. That's all.
- 2:26You know, we're here to give you some of that information, take
- 2:29away the negativity from it, and make you make your best
- 2:32judgement for what you need on your team.
- 2:34That's all. And of course, we're coming to
- 2:37you live from Patriot Radio, from NBR Radio.
- 2:42Which reminds me, I should probably put this Patriot Radio
- 2:45thing up. We'll be right back a little
- 3:16couple technical difficulties before coming on to the show
- 3:19today all. Right, you got me now.
- 3:24Oh, we hear you loud and clear. Well, you know what it is, is I,
- 3:26I, when I, I always, when I sometimes when I forget to load
- 3:29up the Patriot radio, when I load it up and press play, it
- 3:32kind of takes away my, my broad, my broadband.
- 3:34Anyways, So we're, we're on there.
- 3:37We're on there. So with that said, Patriot
- 3:40Radio, NBR radio, a lot of military affiliation for myself,
- 3:42I was a paratrooper for over six years.
- 3:44I have jumps in Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and of
- 3:47course a combat tour in Afghanistan, believe it or not.
- 3:51Yeah, my father was part of the Vietnam, Vietnam War.
- 3:54He was in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and my
- 3:57grandfather was a paramedic during World War 2.
- 3:59So a lot of family ties there as well done.
- 4:03Awesome. So we have man, we have a lot to
- 4:06talk about this week. We're going to start with going
- 4:08around the league again. This is more baseball
- 4:11information as as opposed to fantasy relevance.
- 4:14But of course there's always a fantasy relevance in in baseball
- 4:18information anyways. So yeah, let's just, yeah, let's
- 4:23just go around the league, right?
- 4:25Let's go in. All right, this one is kind of
- 4:34this one throws before loop. All right, and I'm going to I
- 4:37have I have the play. So let me let me just show the
- 4:41play right, I'll show the video and then let's just talk about
- 4:44it because it does kind of upset me a little bit Here it is.
- 4:48What did I say the point was? Soto flies well, deep to laugh.
- 4:52Back toward the wall, and it's off the fence, and Soto will
- 4:56have to stop at first base. He's.
- 5:02Trotting again, and therefore not on sidling de passe.
- 5:09Man, so OK, newly acquired outfielder for the Mets, Juan
- 5:15Soto being criticized, always criticized, right?
- 5:18I guess that's what it is when you sign these mega deals.
- 5:20This time, obviously from the video, it's not for hustling
- 5:24out-of-the-box. Right out-of-the-box, you should
- 5:25have ran. You know, you saw the play, you
- 5:29saw the video. Now, as Red Sox fans, I've seen
- 5:33this done by so many players on the visiting team that they're
- 5:37playing at Fenway, right? And I think this is something
- 5:41that shouldn't be really held for him.
- 5:44I, I guess maybe he's on such a big pedestal because he's signed
- 5:47this big contract and every day he should be hustling all the
- 5:49time. To me, it, it is what it is.
- 5:54Like, I, I mean, you hit a ball, you think you hit a good, you
- 5:57think you get under it. It bounces off the wall and goes
- 5:59for a long single or something like that.
- 6:01I've seen it time and time again at Fenway Park.
- 6:03I've seen people not hustle on, but just specifically because,
- 6:06you know, to me that play was so close that even if he did
- 6:10hustle, there was a good chance he might have not even got, he
- 6:13would have got for a round based off of where that ball was hit.
- 6:17Now, obviously this hasn't been your typical solo year to start.
- 6:21I mean, he's got 33 strikeouts in 47 games.
- 6:25So that tells me he's he's fine from a hitting perspective.
- 6:28But I mean, I would say I would use when he played with the
- 6:32Padres as like a stepping stone for this because his first three
- 6:36months with the Padres, he did not look great at all from from
- 6:39any perspective from fantasy, from baseball.
- 6:41Like his numbers weren't amazing at all.
- 6:44But he ends up coming on strong. The second-half of the Padres
- 6:47finishes a top five bat in fantasy.
- 6:50And you know all those all those well, right, You know, it's, it
- 6:53kind of reminds me of what happened with Devers.
- 6:55It's like people are going to you, you sign this big contract
- 6:59and people are just going to dig into you.
- 7:01And what Devers is doing is he's kind of hitting himself out of
- 7:04all that, you know, Grand Slam a, a three run shot, two home
- 7:07runs, say 25 points in the fantasy round.
- 7:10And people aren't talking about that move to third base right
- 7:13now because he's hitting. And I think, you know, once Juan
- 7:17Soto starts hitting this, this idea of not hustling or not
- 7:19caring is going to go out the window.
- 7:21But I just, I've seen it done by other players.
- 7:24I feel like throwing him under the bus for it is, is kind of a
- 7:26little ridiculous in my opinion. But I mean, that's my take on
- 7:29this whole matter anyways. No, you nailed it with the wall
- 7:32ball stuff, right? You know these guys, a lot of
- 7:35times they don't play every day at Fenway.
- 7:37You'll see a lefty hit it off the wall opposite field and you
- 7:40nail that you they they get thrown at second base.
- 7:43I watched that replay like you said, even if he came
- 7:46out-of-the-box. Hot.
- 7:47And ran the second base that would have been a bang, bang
- 7:50play. And I think it what it is, is
- 7:52that it's just a contract. It's just a big contract that
- 7:56it's, you know, you expect the world, you know, you expect
- 7:59Lutani results. Really when you sign a contract
- 8:02like that where you just every night, you know, there's
- 8:05potential to be something special.
- 8:07And there still can be with Soto.
- 8:08And usually in an instance with like a guy like this, you rely
- 8:13on a guy like this to win baseball games.
- 8:15But The funny thing is usually when you win baseball games, you
- 8:18kind of cut the chatter down. Mets have thirty wins.
- 8:22They're playing fantastic baseball right now.
- 8:24And that's not even with Soto playing that great.
- 8:26So if I was a Mets fan, I'd put up the brakes a little bit and
- 8:29be like, hey, we're winning a ton of baseball games with two
- 8:32games. One of the game, you know, a
- 8:34game back from the NL East and our best player is not even
- 8:38playing to his full. Potential yet?
- 8:40So if I was a Mets fan, I'd be very optimistic and be like,
- 8:43hey, it's all going to be good. You can't have the world right?
- 8:48You can't build Rome in a day, but what you can do is week by
- 8:52week, when the majority of your series win baseball games and
- 8:55you give Sodo time to just figure it out.
- 8:57And I think once the pressure's off of him and I think some of
- 8:59the heat's off of him, then he's going to be his best.
- 9:03So it's funny because I work in an office, a lot of New York
- 9:07guys, I got a couple Mets fans in there.
- 9:09I got a lot of Yankee fans. They know soda very, very well.
- 9:12So there's a little bit of a mixed reaction there.
- 9:14You know, Yankee fans love to see Soto kind of stumbling
- 9:17out-of-the-box because obviously he left the Yankees and a Mets
- 9:21fan, you expected a lot more going into it after that, signed
- 9:24that contract. Ultimately, though, end of the
- 9:27day, don't worry about it. It's all going to be good.
- 9:30I think people are just nitpicking at this point.
- 9:32And I, I mean, a play like that, how can you not nitpick, you
- 9:35know, if you don't really know the dimensions of Fenway, right?
- 9:39So, yeah, he's fine. I'm not worried about it.
- 9:42And if I was in the league and you were worried about Soto, I
- 9:45would buy him in a heartbeat. That's not even a question.
- 9:48Right, and and you make a good point, right.
- 9:51I mean they got thirty wins. They're they're I mean they're
- 9:55just the only way they wouldn't make the play offs is if they
- 9:58play themselves out of it. And that means like not
- 10:00producing at all. But I mean, it's it's weird if
- 10:04you look at how they've been playing though, because they've
- 10:06been winning games, but that offense is not really been
- 10:10playing well these last couple weeks.
- 10:13You know, this is and and I don't want to do a spoiler for a
- 10:15hot, you know, who's hot and who's not, but this is the
- 10:18second week in a row Pete Alonzo's made this list of not
- 10:20being hot, you know, and you got Soto who's struggling.
- 10:25Lindor's, you know, thankfully he's producing.
- 10:29You know, he's usually not a first half hitter, but I mean,
- 10:32he's he's hitting the ball well for this first half.
- 10:34He's still a lot more bags too from that aspect.
- 10:37So you're right. I mean, there's optimism that,
- 10:40hey, listen, you know, Soto's going to come out of it.
- 10:42Obviously give him a couple months, you know, and hopefully
- 10:45Alonso will you'll turn it around to where he was three
- 10:48weeks ago. But it's it's it's tough when
- 10:52you're when you're looking at it and you're like, well, yeah, I I
- 10:55can't understand the conversation of Will.
- 10:57He's not hustling out-of-the-box.
- 10:59He's not, you know, this and that.
- 11:00But I mean, you also, like you said, you know, they got thirty
- 11:03wins, right? I mean, they're, they rotation
- 11:05right now is keeping them afloat, which is bizarre because
- 11:08it's not a named rotation that their highest paid acquisition
- 11:12was Sean Bonea. And I don't, I don't even know
- 11:14when he's coming back from the you know, so it's, it's a weird
- 11:19situation to see them win games with all these people that are
- 11:23just not performing right now. But on the flip side, it's a
- 11:26good thing because when they do perform, then you'll, you know,
- 11:30you'll, you'll see them run away with this.
- 11:34Exactly, exactly. I'm not worried about it.
- 11:37And is there going to be buyers, I believe during the the trade
- 11:39deadline as well. So they'll get some pieces to to
- 11:42recoup that and they're going to make another run.
- 11:45They went to the NLCS last year. I have no reason why they
- 11:48wouldn't make another push to at least get back to that point, if
- 11:51not further right. I'm looking at the standings.
- 11:54Like you say, they're not going to play themselves out because I
- 11:56feel like other teams are kind of already doing that
- 11:58out-of-the-box. You expected more out of
- 12:00Cincinnati. I think this year they're a
- 12:02little bit of under 500 right now.
- 12:05San Diego, I think they got 26 wins, 27 wins, you know, so the
- 12:09Mets have a leg up on them. Same thing with the Giants.
- 12:12They do have a leg up on the Giants right now in the
- 12:14standings. So, you know, they're in a
- 12:16really good spot to just make a nice little run here.
- 12:19They're going to be competitive with Philly.
- 12:22Atlanta's obviously not coming out-of-the-box.
- 12:24Really too hot so far to this point.
- 12:26So you know, it is what it is, but I mean, I, I'd be buying
- 12:31stock on Mets. I you know what it is.
- 12:32It's just a lot of New York fans just love to complain sometimes
- 12:37when when it's not all bad and and and cloudy yet you know
- 12:40it's. Yankee experience of like these
- 12:44fans, just not like he wants Soto because he went somewhere
- 12:46else. I mean, that's baseball to get
- 12:48used to it. I mean, you know the guy already
- 12:51has a World Series ring, right? He got it when he was like 21
- 12:54years old. So he's, he's got what everybody
- 12:57he's chasing, obviously he probably wants to win another
- 12:59one. Don't get me wrong.
- 13:00But you already have the ring. Now you want to get paid.
- 13:03You know, I, when I think of this, I think of Pedro Martinez
- 13:07wins the ring, right? And then signs a big contract
- 13:10with the Mets because the Red Sox weren't going to offer him
- 13:13what he wanted. Listen, as a Red Sox fan, did I
- 13:16hate to see Pedro go? Obviously.
- 13:18And he still had stuff in the tank.
- 13:20He had a pretty decent couple of years.
- 13:21He, I mean, he went ten and seven with Philly three years
- 13:23later. So he had stuff in the tank.
- 13:26So, yeah, it was tough to see him go.
- 13:27But did I hate him for making that decision?
- 13:28Would I Boo him if he came to play, you know, the Red Sox when
- 13:32he was with the Mets? I wouldn't, I'd say good for
- 13:34him. He won the ring.
- 13:36He came to, you know, he wanted to win the ring with the Red
- 13:38Sox. He won it and then he got paid.
- 13:40Soto's doing the same thing. He's just doing a hell of a lot
- 13:42earlier because he's been, so he's been a phenom.
- 13:45He's a, he's a baseball phenom. That's all this is, you know,
- 13:48you don't Boo him because he didn't sign a long term
- 13:50contract, because your team didn't offer him everything you
- 13:52wanted. You just, hey, he's still a
- 13:55great player, you know, tip your cap and move on.
- 13:59You had you had to know that going into the season 2.
- 14:01And I think if you're a Yankee fan, you're probably
- 14:04disappointed that you traded for a guy like a soda, right?
- 14:07And it's not like you gave up nothing for him.
- 14:08You know, Michael Kings was pretty decent.
- 14:10We'll talk about him a little bit later, but he he was a big
- 14:13piece in that trade. And you expected to re sign him
- 14:16after that one year. But like you said, you can't
- 14:19blame a guy for accomplishing all the individual goals,
- 14:21including winning a World Series already and being in the eighth.
- 14:25He is. Why not capitalize on getting
- 14:27with the biggest contract you can at this point?
- 14:30He's got a long, long time to play still.
- 14:31What is he only 20? What, 2627?
- 14:34He's he's a he's a young buck still.
- 14:36You know, he still has a lot in the tank.
- 14:38And then eventually, you know, we always talk about getting
- 14:41older and going to DH and really focusing on that.
- 14:44He's not even close to that point yet.
- 14:46And then when he gets to that point, imagine a Juan Soto just
- 14:49focusing on hitting and not worrying about like he's going
- 14:52to be like, you know, he he's on his way to be a Hall of Famer
- 14:56and he's not there yet, obviously, but man, he's on that
- 14:59that right projectile for sure. So hey, I'm rooting for the guy.
- 15:04Yeah, me too. All right, Next up, we'll talk
- 15:08about, let's talk about the socks for a little bit, right?
- 15:10Let's talk about Walker Buick. So he makes his first start off
- 15:14the IL against the Mets, which we just talked about.
- 15:18And man, you know, you got the adrenaline pumping.
- 15:21You got, you're still throwing hard.
- 15:22He looks great. You know, obviously all these
- 15:25pitchers that are coming back from long IL stints, you know,
- 15:29with Tommy John recoveries and we'll talk about Strider in a
- 15:31little while, but you know, I, I don't think your body's so used
- 15:34to it. So you're going to have these
- 15:35hamstring issues and whatever. So, you know, he's getting back
- 15:38from his own issue and he gets thrown out And I, I actually do
- 15:43have that video of the actual play.
- 15:45So take a look at this. I don't think he's wrong, but I
- 15:49understand where the up's coming from because it just, it was
- 15:51just a, a, a weird throw, you know what I mean?
- 15:55It's like one of those throws where as an hump, you're
- 15:57probably just thinking, OK, you know what?
- 15:59It's it's just a ball. Looks like a throw out you know
- 16:02so but but here to take a look at it and you'd be a judge.
- 16:06Bitch, that's a ball. It's right there.
- 16:10And Bueller's wondering like it's a strike, right?
- 16:14And he's wants the ball and he's going to go back and say that
- 16:16was a strike, right? Two and O.
- 16:18Now it's two and O there's some words because I mean, that was
- 16:21clearly a strike. He's telling him to get back on
- 16:28the mound. The the problem I have here with
- 16:31Esterbrook, OK, Like Walker Buehler said something to him
- 16:35when he's on the dirt. But when the mask comes off and
- 16:38you, you're very confrontational.
- 16:40Yes, You know what I mean? Like Walker, Buehler's been the
- 16:43league of while you know you, you missed the pitch.
- 16:46He has something to say for you from the rubber.
- 16:48That's fine. But when the mask comes off and
- 16:50you're aggressively coming at him, it's very combative and
- 16:57you're escalating it. So, yeah, what a man.
- 17:05I, I got to say I love the video and I I love the call by our own
- 17:08Framingham Lou Maloney back there.
- 17:10That's a loop call all day every day.
- 17:12I know that voice. So, yeah.
- 17:14So he gets tossed for for again. And he was pitching against Juan
- 17:18Soto. I will say, like I said, he
- 17:22looked good. He's hit 95 consistently in his
- 17:24final stat line. You know, 2 1/3, four
- 17:28strikeouts, two walks nowhere and 52 pitches.
- 17:31I do expect him to be a huge fantasy contributor.
- 17:34I even, you know, I, I don't know if it'll be for the whole
- 17:37year because he's still coming back from injury.
- 17:38If there's going to be a limit, whatever, I don't know what's
- 17:40going to happen with that. But I do expect him to be a
- 17:43contributor. With that said, the pitch itself
- 17:46was a strike. You know, you can't argue with
- 17:49the, the angle, the camera view, everything right?
- 17:51The strike zone was there from, I mean, you're enough so you can
- 17:55break this down a little more. You, you know, to me, I get
- 17:58where he's coming from because you know, your catcher ruins
- 18:01that. And what I mean is, you know, he
- 18:03stands up. So the umpire is probably
- 18:06saying, OK, this is going to be this is a throw out, right?
- 18:09He's going to throw it out and he's going to try to see if if
- 18:12they're going to be able to catch the runner at second off,
- 18:14you know, sleeping. It's a pitch out is what they're
- 18:17is what the the up is probably thinking.
- 18:20And most of the time pitch outs are balls.
- 18:23So I get, I get the frustration on both.
- 18:26I just think I think Walker Buick is such a competitive guy
- 18:30and he knows his own and he wanted it, you know, I mean,
- 18:33you're pitching against Juan Soto and this is a, when you
- 18:36pitch against somebody like that, you don't want to be down
- 18:38to an O, right? You want to be 1 and one or one
- 18:41and two or like, you don't want to be two O 3 O on a, on a
- 18:43person like that. So I get where it's coming from,
- 18:46but it what a, what a play, what, what a pitch, what a, a
- 18:50way to start your, your first start back from the IL, right?
- 18:54It just it sucks because he was pitching pretty well in that
- 18:57game and he was pitching against Juan Soto.
- 18:59So you can't get any bad breaks. And we talked about those Brad
- 19:03breaks last year where, you know, you, you thought you had a
- 19:06strike call, it was a ball. And all of a sudden the next
- 19:08pitch is a home run. You know, it happens more often
- 19:11than you think. We saw it last year with the
- 19:14Oscar Hernandez. Remember that game in Colorado,
- 19:16right? That was kind of a spicy game
- 19:18there. And there was another one I just
- 19:21had in my head and I forgot. But going back to the point
- 19:23though, I mean, Lou Maloney called this right?
- 19:26You know, he he's such a good play by play color commentator
- 19:30when it comes to the game, whether it's on radio or TVI
- 19:33feel like he could do any, any game doesn't have to be a Red
- 19:35Sox game. He just knows the ball.
- 19:37He just knows how to talk the game.
- 19:38He understands the game. He understands what's going on
- 19:41in the game. So he's just a pleasure to
- 19:44listen to. And he broke it down really
- 19:45nicely, too. And not for nothing too, you
- 19:48know, Juan Kabila's come back from an injury.
- 19:51You know, he, he was really starting to pick up some steam
- 19:53before he got hurt. And he's a competitor, like you
- 19:57said, at the same time. So I want the guy to be
- 20:00successful. He will be successful.
- 20:02He will be a factor this year for the Red Sox.
- 20:04He's clearly getting comfortable.
- 20:06He's playing his first full season in a very, very long
- 20:08time. And I'm, I'm looking forward to
- 20:10seeing what else he has down the pipe.
- 20:12And, you know, from an umpire perspective, too, I do call that
- 20:17umpire. I don't like that.
- 20:20I don't like ripping off your mask.
- 20:22I don't like, you know, stepping out, you know, toward him, you
- 20:25know, yelling what he needs to be doing and stuff.
- 20:28You know, you let the player say what he needs to say.
- 20:31You know, if it's not directly toward me when I'm doing a game,
- 20:36I'm not going to react and and make a scene out of it.
- 20:38I don't have rabbit ears or anything like that.
- 20:41People are entitled to to drop death bombs when they want.
- 20:44As long as it's not directly toward me as the umpire, I say
- 20:49it's fair game. You know, anything can happen in
- 20:51the game and you don't have to like it.
- 20:53But once you say something to that umpire, you know, then then
- 20:57it becomes a little bit more dicey, right?
- 20:59But I think what that umpire did was.
- 21:01Be egged them. He egged them on there.
- 21:03You know, I think Walker was like, well, you know, where the
- 21:06fuck was that then? You know, I think that's what he
- 21:08was saying. And I think really it wasn't
- 21:11toward the umpire. I think he was just pissed.
- 21:14I think he was direct and he didn't get an answer from the
- 21:17Empire. And I think that's an issue,
- 21:19too. And that's why he stood in front
- 21:22of the mound and waited for the ball.
- 21:25And then the Empire reacted in a completely 180 way, telling him
- 21:29to go back on the mound. Well, Walker just got screwed
- 21:32here, all right? He's going to have to speak up
- 21:35for himself eventually. He's not going to just take the
- 21:37ball against Juan Soto, take that ball and be happy and be
- 21:41like, oh, I guess it is what it is.
- 21:42No, you're going to have some words.
- 21:45I think that umpire pushed him to the limit to start saying
- 21:48something toward him. He wanted to toss them right.
- 21:53And then I look at Alex Corgo out there and I'm thinking to
- 21:56myself, where were you 3040 seconds ago?
- 22:01I I'm having, you know, we're talking about this one thing
- 22:05here, but now I'm kind of going to bring this toward Alex Core a
- 22:07little bit because I mean, the Red Sox are kind of coming out
- 22:10of the gates a little cold here. He got tossed, right.
- 22:14And there's another story with that too, Doug, you know, you
- 22:16have Lindor on second base, right?
- 22:18And he was making gestures back there.
- 22:20You know, he was, he was trying to have some fun, right?
- 22:22He's trying to have fun with himself and the Mets being like,
- 22:25hey, toss him, toss him. You know, when he gets tossed
- 22:27and you know, Thor goes out there and he gets tossed and you
- 22:32know, Walker Beulah had some comments on Twitter after he had
- 22:35a little post and and pretty much defended himself and said,
- 22:39hey, you can't hit the bullpen because they ended up losing.
- 22:41The Mets lost that game still. So there was some words there.
- 22:45And Walker took that a certain way, right?
- 22:50But then Alice Korra has breakfast with Lindor the next
- 22:53day and they're all buddy buddy. And I get it.
- 22:58You know, this league, we're all friends.
- 22:59We're all friends in this league.
- 23:00You see him here to here. But I feel like there's got to
- 23:03be a line drawn because when I see that as a fan, I get mad
- 23:09because for one, you were late. You should have saw that
- 23:13escalating. You saw it escalating.
- 23:14You should have ran out there to the umpire.
- 23:16It's only the 4th inning. He was only 52 pitches in.
- 23:20He had another, you know, potentially another 3 innings in
- 23:23him to go and he gets tossed and then you come out late, you
- 23:29know, and to me, that looks like you're just out there because
- 23:31you think you have to be out there to this point.
- 23:34And I don't like what I've seen from Alice Cora so far.
- 23:37I feel like he's just kind of half fascinate this year.
- 23:40And I hate to say that because I was such a big advocate for him
- 23:44for a very long time. And then sometimes you just kind
- 23:47of outgrow your role. So last year he was aggravated
- 23:52because he didn't have enough Major League Baseball players
- 23:55going into the season. He thought he had like a pretty
- 23:57much a minor league team going into the last season, talking
- 24:00about it in spring training. This year, you have a much more
- 24:03competitive team. You have better prospects that
- 24:06are ready to go, you know, that are ready in, in, in Worcester
- 24:09right now. And I, I just think they should
- 24:12be a way better team than what they are right now to this
- 24:14point. We saw Baltimore make a move,
- 24:18you know, about a week and a half ago with their manager
- 24:21because I think they also feel the same way, except they're
- 24:23playing a lot worse. Obviously, they're playing
- 24:25really bad, but they feel like they should be playing better.
- 24:28And we need a better voice in here.
- 24:31And the problem with Alice Korra, he's a veteran manager at
- 24:33this point. So whoever you bring in next,
- 24:35it's not going to be like, you know, slam dunk out of the park
- 24:39next. Great pick.
- 24:40You know, as a Red Sox fan, we talked about Jason Veritec a
- 24:43lot, but I don't think he wants that job either, to be honest.
- 24:47I think he would have had it by now if he wanted it.
- 24:50So there's some disappointment from me just because I think
- 24:53Horace sort of spoke up earlier. I think he should have run out
- 24:56there. He should have protected Walker
- 24:57ahead of time. And then to see him go out and
- 24:59have breakfast and be buddy buddy with the guy that was in
- 25:02your home ballpark telling him to get thrown out.
- 25:06I just, I, I don't like it. I don't like it as a fan.
- 25:09I just, I don't know, I could be totally off on that, Doug, but I
- 25:13I have an issue with that. I don't mind the the whole
- 25:16hanging out for breakfast or whatever.
- 25:18That doesn't bother me that, you know, it's like you, you rarely
- 25:21see these guys once in a while. So, you know, why not just hang
- 25:26out with them when they're in town?
- 25:27I'm sure that happens all the time.
- 25:29And you know, if, if Lindor was, I don't like you said too, I
- 25:33think Lindor was joking when he when he did all that stuff.
- 25:35But still, I mean, yeah, I get it.
- 25:36I get it from both perspectives. My issue would be like you said,
- 25:42why, Why didn't he run to the mound?
- 25:44Like you're sitting there, you watch the clip again for 10
- 25:47seconds or or maybe 15. You know, they're going at each
- 25:53other, right? They they're yelling at each
- 25:55other and then he takes off the mask.
- 25:57He's saying get on the mound, get on the mound to to Walker
- 25:59Bueller. The catcher jumps in.
- 26:02That's I mean, he should have ran out there when he started
- 26:04saying, hey, get to the mound, get to the mound.
- 26:06And then Cora should have ran right in between them and that
- 26:09way, whatever, whatever Walker Bueller was saying, he couldn't
- 26:13hear him or see Rita's lips because probably wasn't anything
- 26:15nice. But totally agree, should have
- 26:19been there earlier. And I will say, I mean, as as
- 26:23the upgrades they've done to that line up as far as an
- 26:26offensive perspective pitching wise, they haven't really done
- 26:31much. I mean, like, I mean, it is what
- 26:33it is, you know, I mean, Tanner Hawk isn't pitching anywhere
- 26:38near what he was, you know, a year ago for the first half
- 26:42anyways. Tanked the second-half, you
- 26:44know. Yeah, Welcome view is a pleasant
- 26:46surprise. He's done a one year deal.
- 26:47So he's done. You know, he's he's done after
- 26:49this year. Lucas Giolito.
- 26:53I don't know why you expected him to be an ace when the CRA
- 26:55was always over 4 anyways. He's he's going to give you up
- 26:59and down and that's what he is. You know, Bellows been pitching
- 27:02decent. You know, this is pretty, pretty
- 27:04good so far. But there there's not much out
- 27:07there for them. You know, Crotchet, yeah, he's
- 27:10he's good. But man, you look at his numbers
- 27:12and you know, I think there's only like maybe three starts you
- 27:16went over six innings. You know, like he's not giving
- 27:19you quality starts all the time, which an ace should probably
- 27:22give you. He's giving you a lot of
- 27:23strikeouts and that's what drives his pitch count up so
- 27:26high. But he's not giving you those
- 27:28quality starts and I don't. And when people say, oh, here's
- 27:31the ace of the future, I, I, I mean, Mike, you can you, you
- 27:35know, I, I don't think Greg Crotch is an ace.
- 27:38I've never been on board with him as an ace.
- 27:40I, he's a great pitcher. He's great to have in fantasy.
- 27:43He's, I think he, you know, he'll give you the strikeouts,
- 27:46he'll give you some, you know, high earned runs here and there.
- 27:50He's a great 1B, but he is not the 1A that everybody thinks he
- 27:54is. And I mean, you're going to,
- 27:56you're seeing that, you know, but I, I feel like they could
- 27:59have done more from pitching perspective because their, their
- 28:03offense is stacked. Like, you know, you talk about,
- 28:06you know, the, the studs like Roman Anthony and, and, and
- 28:09Marcel, there's still still all they haven't been called up yet,
- 28:11right? These are two top 10 prospects
- 28:14potentially it you know, so they haven't gotten called up yet and
- 28:17they signed Bregman and you know, they're doing good things,
- 28:21But then you look at their pitching and they're like, OK,
- 28:23well, they have nobody really in the minors.
- 28:26That's a top prospect for pitching, right?
- 28:29I can't. I mean, not a high top 50 or top
- 28:32100. Anyways.
- 28:34So now you're stuck trying to build a rotation again and next
- 28:38year you're losing G Alito and you use you're losing Walker
- 28:40Beulah. You have crotch it and you have
- 28:44well, crochet whatever you want and Bello, but you don't have
- 28:48anybody else, nobody else. So you're still going to and and
- 28:52Bregman could just opt out. You know, he got hurt today.
- 28:55So they said it's a quad injury. Who knows how long that is.
- 28:57Quad injuries are at least almost a month.
- 29:01Who knows what what's going to happen there.
- 29:03I don't think the offense is going to lose a beat.
- 29:06But now, now and then you you're, you're in a new
- 29:08perspective where you're like, OK, we don't have 1/3 baseman.
- 29:10Hey, Rafael Devers, the guy we just asked to play first.
- 29:13Can you go back to 3rd? Come on.
- 29:17I know. And, and it's funny because we
- 29:19talked about Christian Campbell getting some reps at first base
- 29:22too. You know, they had him go
- 29:23playing first base before games trying to get warmed up.
- 29:27And I guess he was really ambitious about it.
- 29:29He was really ambitious about playing first base, so he wants
- 29:33to be a team player is what it is.
- 29:34You know, is it the right move? I I don't really know to be
- 29:37honest with you, But if you can move him around a little bit,
- 29:40you know, he already plays second base in shortstop.
- 29:44You can move him to third base for the time being.
- 29:46And I think this is an opportunity to call up Mayor at
- 29:49this point too. With the Bregman injury, I think
- 29:52there's no better excuse right now than not to bring him up and
- 29:56and be part of that middle infield of some type or just
- 30:00moving to 3rd. He plays shortstop already.
- 30:02I feel like that's a pretty easy transition, especially for a
- 30:06young guy like that. You think he's only 22.
- 30:08So he's he's just, he can do whatever he wants.
- 30:10You know, he should be a team player anyway, but they they got
- 30:13an option. At least, you know, at least
- 30:15there's, you know, a, a, a thing you could do there.
- 30:19I don't think Bregman, I don't think Devers is going to go back
- 30:21to third. I think they're just going to
- 30:22keep him at the age at this point after all the the hoobla
- 30:26and everything, you know, I think they'd just rather not
- 30:28stir that pot again. And he's been hitting well, like
- 30:31we talked about, he's been, you know what, 25 fantasy points
- 30:33today that didn't that didn't help.
- 30:36You know who's? Going to make the Who's Hot list
- 30:37next week. Yeah, yeah, he's been swinging a
- 30:41hot bat is right. He, you know, not just today,
- 30:43but I feel like the past like week and a half, he's been doing
- 30:46what he needs to be doing. His batting averages back up to
- 30:49what, 285 or so after coming out of the gate so poor, has a bunch
- 30:53of home runs, a bunch of RB is now like he he's back in in
- 30:57season form. So it's great to see.
- 30:59It just sucks because I think going into the season as Red Sox
- 31:02fans, we had higher expectations.
- 31:04We saw the roster, we we saw the potential and, you know, now
- 31:08we're 40 something games into it and it's been shaky just like it
- 31:12was last year. Yeah.
- 31:13It's a 500 team. Yep.
- 31:17OK, I can run through this one. I'll run through quick, but then
- 31:20we'll we'll let's chat on the last the last one because I know
- 31:22you this is this is your topic here.
- 31:24OK, and we'll talk about this this guy again, Mariner starting
- 31:30pitcher George Kirby. He made his long-awaited season
- 31:33debut yesterday. He is, I mean, it didn't go well
- 31:38and you'll you'll, we'll go over his numbers later on.
- 31:40But it was interesting to read that they are going with a six
- 31:43man rotation for the foreseeable future.
- 31:46So something to keep in mind if you have a couple of these
- 31:50starting pitchers, Gilbert Ham, Luis Castille, like these guys,
- 31:56if most of them aren't going to get two starts a week, if you
- 31:59have one week line UPS. So something to keep in mind.
- 32:03And then last but not least, there's been a ton of chatter on
- 32:07the Pirates, right? Would they even entertain an
- 32:10offer from their phenom starting pitcher Paul Skeens?
- 32:13Right? Revolved.
- 32:15I mean, you can't help but but read, if you're on any type of
- 32:18Facebook page or any type of page with sports, you know he's
- 32:23not happy, right? I mean, it's a Pirates
- 32:25organization. They usually don't win.
- 32:27That's what they do. They produce pictures that end
- 32:30up going, signing big contracts and winning elsewhere.
- 32:33Garrett Cole, Tyler Glasner, him, you know, so obviously he's
- 32:39not happy and he wants out. Well, Ben Cherrington, their GM,
- 32:42said it best. He said not at all.
- 32:46We're not going to entertain any offers at all.
- 32:50You know, this is a guy that is still on a rookie deal, right?
- 32:54He's going to be on a rookie deal for the next at least three
- 32:56years. So his thing was let's cool the
- 33:01talks. Now here's the question, do you
- 33:05trade them or don't you? And I, I totally get it, right?
- 33:08It's a phenom. Whatever once in a a lifetime
- 33:11generational talent, you can put them up there with maybe a Trout
- 33:14or or an early Stephen Strasburg.
- 33:18You know, somebody like like that.
- 33:20Hopefully he doesn't get hurt like him.
- 33:21But you know, if I'm the GM and I know I have somebody like
- 33:28this, it's tough not to say let's entertain some offers,
- 33:32right? I mean, you're talking about
- 33:33getting three quality players for a stud who, you know, you're
- 33:37not going to be able to re sign anyways after three years, you
- 33:40know, we're not going to be happy.
- 33:42You know, they don't have a good team.
- 33:44You know, there's there's there's nothing good about that
- 33:47team. Like I could sit here and say,
- 33:48OK, O'Neill Cruz is having a pretty decent year so far.
- 33:51I mean, it's early. He's stealing bases.
- 33:53He's offsetting all those strikeouts.
- 33:55Talk to me at the end of the year.
- 33:56OK, But like, honestly, I mean, by Reynolds is, is his year
- 34:02isn't, is horrible. I mean, nowhere near what it was
- 34:05last year. So, yeah, I get it, man.
- 34:08You get there's only so much you can take with with a team that
- 34:11when you're losing, you know, think if Tom Brady was on that
- 34:14team, I mean, he'd be gone in a heartbeat.
- 34:16So I get where where skiing is coming from.
- 34:19Now again, you know, I I there are some interesting trade
- 34:23offers. I know we talked about one in
- 34:25our group about, you know, the Red Sox and some of their top
- 34:28prospects. You know it, it's just, I don't
- 34:31know, I don't know, you know, it's a tough position for him
- 34:34because right now he's probably, Skeens is probably the only one
- 34:38that's selling tickets for that team.
- 34:40You know, people are going just to see him.
- 34:42Nobody else is on there. You know, no offense to Angel
- 34:45McCutcheon or you know, any of those guys, but if I'm going to
- 34:48see a Pirates game, it's when Skeens is pitching.
- 34:50So I don't know if I trade him. I don't, I, I, it's tough
- 34:54because you're, you're getting 3 talented players for one, but
- 34:59you're not going to be able to resign them.
- 35:00The money he's going to want, you know, he's, he's, he's going
- 35:04to be gone like, you know, like crochet with, with the White
- 35:07Sox, You know, maybe capitalize now and get a much bigger haul
- 35:11than you would when he's only got a year left.
- 35:14I don't know. I know he's your boy.
- 35:16I don't know. What's your take on that?
- 35:18I think you're right because you're going to, you're going to
- 35:20maximize your value right now at this moment right here, just no
- 35:25higher point to trade a guy that's got like you said, about
- 35:283-4 years of control. Still.
- 35:31You're going to get pop prospects for him.
- 35:33You're going to get Major League players back for him as well.
- 35:36It's going to be a multi year deal, you know, going back to
- 35:39Ben Cherrington. No, it's cool that he came out
- 35:42and said, hey, we're going to keep him.
- 35:43And I think you're right, Doug, I think it's because of ticket
- 35:45sales. He's really the one driving the
- 35:46ticket sales this year, you know, But I would have a follow
- 35:49up question to Ben Cherrington. My question would be then what
- 35:52are you going to do to be a, a winning baseball team for him
- 35:55then? Like what are you going to do
- 35:56for him to to build around them? And I don't know how much
- 36:00they're really going to do, if anything, to be honest.
- 36:02We always talk about these small middle market teams and how much
- 36:06capital they spend on players and you know it.
- 36:09It's just an expensive sport now.
- 36:11To get quality baseball players on your team, you're going to
- 36:14have to spend more money on a mediocre guy now more than ever.
- 36:18And we saw it this last offseason too, where it's going
- 36:21to be hit or misses with guys when you sign up for free agency
- 36:24and you're going to have to pay kind of top dollar for these
- 36:27guys in the Pirates right now, they have too many holes.
- 36:30They have way too many holes on their team in order to to be a
- 36:34successful baseball team. So.
- 36:37I know it's like kind of sucks if you're a Pirates fan, but
- 36:40sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and be like, you know
- 36:42what's best for the future. And we've seen that with other
- 36:45teams in the past too, where they trade a mega * and they've
- 36:49gotten a haul back and now all of a sudden they actually have a
- 36:53fundamental baseball team out there that can be winning more
- 36:56baseball games than they were before.
- 36:58We saw it with the Nationals before.
- 37:00We, you know, Miami's a really good example.
- 37:02They've done that in the past as well, where they'll trade a big
- 37:05guy like a Stanton or they they had Christian Yelich and they
- 37:09got players back and it was more not just a player, but it was
- 37:13more of a foundation that they were building from it.
- 37:16And right now Pittsburgh doesn't have a foundation.
- 37:18And I guess this is just me really saying, you know, this is
- 37:21my pitch to trade schemes because I want to see him be
- 37:24sexual too. And not just me, just not
- 37:26everyone does. I think there's not, there's a
- 37:29very minimal margin of people that don't want him to succeed.
- 37:33I think there's a small, small group of people.
- 37:36But I think the majority see the guy as, you know, Captain
- 37:40America of baseball and you know, baseball of the future.
- 37:44So they want to see him win. They want to see him in prime
- 37:46time games. They want to see him pitching
- 37:48competitively against other teams.
- 37:50And he has been pitching competitively and we've talked
- 37:53about the run support he gets. And when I say the run support
- 37:56he gets, I'm joking. He doesn't get it.
- 37:59He doesn't get any. He'll go out there and buy you
- 38:01off 7 or 8 innings and and give up 1 and run and maybe three
- 38:06hits and and maybe he'll walk or something and you'll lose 1.
- 38:09Nothing. I think we just saw it last week
- 38:11with. Him.
- 38:12So, yeah, I I think it would be better for him to get out of
- 38:15Pittsburgh. But I totally get it from
- 38:17Charrington's perspective of, hey, we need to sell tickets
- 38:20still. He is our best player.
- 38:22He's an attraction. You know, the whole dynamic with
- 38:25him, you know, Libby Dunn, there's like, that's the star
- 38:27power, you know, that they bring to the organization.
- 38:30And you know, Andrew McCutcheon, God, God love him, but you know,
- 38:33he's he's on the other half now. And you, you got to be building
- 38:37towards something at this point. So is it a good idea for Skeens
- 38:41and Bleacher Report tip of the cap to them?
- 38:43They had a great article about some of the teams that that
- 38:46would be in contention to trade for Skeens and some of those
- 38:49players that they would be getting back.
- 38:51So if if you're looking for a quick read, that's a really nice
- 38:54read on Bleacher Report that they have there.
- 38:55But who doesn't love talking about, you know, trade packages
- 38:58for a stunt? You know, it's like playing it's
- 39:01playing a video game. You know, that's what that comes
- 39:03down to. But like you said, the Red Sox,
- 39:05you know, one of the projected trade offers would be like a
- 39:09Roman Anthony in the deal. And the Red Sox are in a unique
- 39:12position where they they're have a full outfield already and then
- 39:15some. So if you said, hey, who would
- 39:17you rather have, Roman Anthony or Paul Skeens?
- 39:21Well, look at the ages. They're pretty much almost the
- 39:23same age. You know, Paul's like another
- 39:25year older. Paul's established already.
- 39:27You already know what you're going to get from Paul at this
- 39:29point. You don't know so far yet from
- 39:31Roman Anthony, obviously everything looks good for him so
- 39:33far. It looks like he's going to be a
- 39:34stud too. But man, pitching is really
- 39:37tough to find. It's very far and few between,
- 39:39especially those aces. So if you have an opportunity to
- 39:42go out, get a guy like Skins, shoot your shot.
- 39:45I know Ben Charrington said no, they're not going to trade him,
- 39:48but still shoot your shot, throw him a trade phone.
- 39:52Names out there. Hey, I know you're not talking
- 39:54about trades with schemes. Here's what we would offer,
- 39:57though. Just think about it.
- 39:58Doesn't have to be tomorrow, doesn't have to be next week,
- 40:00doesn't have to be next month. But here's what we want.
- 40:03Here's what you can get. It's that easy.
- 40:06And these trade talks take months too, Doug, You know that
- 40:09they they take very, very long time to make any of these deals
- 40:12work. Even the trade deadline deals,
- 40:13they've been talking about that since the spring with some of
- 40:16these trade deadline deals. So who knows what's going to
- 40:19happen. Anything can happen in a week.
- 40:22Yeah, I think, I think it's more to say we're not going to
- 40:26entertain anything. I mean, come on, you're, you're
- 40:30in business, you're always entertained, right?
- 40:32I mean, what's going to happen when someone sent you an offer?
- 40:35You know, I mean, you'll say no, right.
- 40:38But at least to get them, you do want to listen to them.
- 40:41You just sit there and say, I'm not taking anything.
- 40:42That's ridiculous. You're in a business.
- 40:45I, I get, you know, I get he's a great talent, but you still have
- 40:48to at least hear what some teams would offer and some, some of
- 40:52them, like you said, you know, obviously you're going to have
- 40:54to play pay more than just Roman Anthony, unfortunately, because
- 40:57Paul skins is an established MLB player right now and Roman
- 41:00Anthony isn't, even though it looks like he will be.
- 41:03So you do still have to at least entertain or, or hear them out,
- 41:08right. I mean, that's anyways.
- 41:11I, I do agree with you, though, He's probably the one he I mean,
- 41:14ticket sales, jersey sales, merchandise, like he's the guy
- 41:17that's really rolling that team on.
- 41:19So I get it. But you still got to still going
- 41:22to entertain, at least listen. Yeah.
- 41:26So that's it for around the league.
- 41:28Let's just jump right into the Hurt Locker because we are, man.
- 41:31We are rolling in time already, man.
- 41:33All right, so here we are. Everybody.
- 41:39Let me let me run down this list.
- 41:44Kind of. Long.
- 41:45List not as long as the past couple weeks, but still kind of
- 41:49let me run down this list. We can break down a couple, then
- 41:51we'll take a break and start digging into the real fun stuff.
- 41:54All right, so Tiger starting pitcher Rhys Olson, he's on the
- 41:5715th DIL. He's got a right ring finger
- 42:00inflammation. He should be back early June.
- 42:02He's actually been pretty good that that Detroit staff minus
- 42:05Jack Flaherty, 4 and 348 in the 2/3 in each pitch, 51
- 42:10strikeouts, 19 walks at 290. All right, he's giving you 10.9
- 42:14points a start or 98 points total.
- 42:17Astro's starting pitcher Blanco, Ronald Blanco, he was day-to-day
- 42:21with an elbow injury. He was actually just placed on
- 42:23the ILI want to say yesterday afternoon they're getting a
- 42:28second opinion on him, which would make you kind of seem like
- 42:31Tommy John might be the the issue.
- 42:33But the first opinion they got was elbow inflammation.
- 42:37They just want to get a second opinion just to see what the
- 42:39timeline's going to be. To me, that sounds like a kind
- 42:42of a weird excuse. I feel like when you get a
- 42:44second opinion, it's because something major is happening.
- 42:48That's the point of a second opinion.
- 42:50Last five starts he was, I mean pretty good, two and two, 3031
- 42:542/3 and he's pitched 32 strikeouts, 4 quality starts and
- 42:57no decision. Both losses were quality starts,
- 43:00so he gave me no negative points.
- 43:02Overall, he's 3 and 448 strikeouts and 48 innings
- 43:06pitched, 20 walks a four one ERA, 79 points or a little over
- 43:109 points a start. Marlon shortstop Xavier Edwards,
- 43:14he's on a 10 to AIL. He's got a left mile back
- 43:16strain. He should just take the minimum.
- 43:18So maybe next week you probably see him back in the line up, not
- 43:22off to a hot start. You know, 263 average, no home
- 43:26runs, 11 ribbies, 18 runs, eleven stolen bases.
- 43:29Here's your kicker though, and and leagues that you know,
- 43:32penalize you for strikeouts. He's only got 34 and 171 at
- 43:36bats, so he's not really giving you a ton of negative points.
- 43:38With that 78 points total to a start, this one should be pretty
- 43:42simple. Pirates starting pitcher Cherry
- 43:44Jones is now out for the year. He had his surgery on Wednesday.
- 43:47He's not pitched on regular season at all.
- 43:50Giants play starting pitcher Justin Verlander on the 15 day
- 43:53IL. He's got a right pictorial
- 43:55soreness. He's looking at an early June
- 43:57return date. These are rough numbers, man,
- 44:00for a Verlander guy like myself, just to see him fall.
- 44:04O and 352 innings pitched, 41 strikeouts, 21 walks up four, 3
- 44:09ERA, 46 points, 4.6 of start. Ohtani's giving you 4.2 Blue
- 44:17Jays outfielder Anthony Sandia. He was removed from Wednesday's
- 44:20game with left hip inflammation. For now, he's considered
- 44:23day-to-day. They haven't ruled out an IL
- 44:25stint, but I guess this was an injury that's been bothering him
- 44:28for well over a week, so I don't know what they're going to do
- 44:32with him. His season's been horrible.
- 44:33He gave you 1.3 points a start, 55 points total.
- 44:36He's only batting you 18848 strikeouts and 165 at bat, so
- 44:42he's looking at almost 180 strikeouts.
- 44:45Nationals outfielder Dylan Cruz was placed on the 10 day IL with
- 44:48a left oblique strain. They haven't revealed the
- 44:50severity, so as of now they're saying just an early June
- 44:52return. I know why is even fantasy
- 44:56relevant considering the beginning season he's had?
- 45:01Well, he's progressively gotten better.
- 45:03I think the last 15 games he's averaging 2.3.
- 45:07The last seven games he's played he's averaging 3 points to
- 45:09start. So really not bad.
- 45:11He's really finally coming out of that shell.
- 45:13Overall his numbers still aren't too too hot, but considering
- 45:16where it was, he's hitting your 196.
- 45:19Seven home runs, 15 ribbies, 11 stolen bases, lot of strikeouts
- 45:2348 and 158 at at bats, 74 total points or 1.6 to start.
- 45:29Let's not forget it took him, I want to say two or three weeks
- 45:33to actually start giving you positive points.
- 45:35So it's good to at least see him now at 1.6.
- 45:39And just a few other day-to-day notes.
- 45:42Glaber Torres, 2nd baseman for the Tigers, he has a lower leg
- 45:46issue so he's day-to-day. Ryan Wu should make his next
- 45:49start, but he was having a leg issue as well.
- 45:51And J Rod, he's actually back in the line up today.
- 45:54He was pulled from the line up a couple days ago with a back
- 45:56injury as well. So just a couple guys to keep
- 45:59note of for maybe next week when you're setting your line UPS.
- 46:03I'm done. A lot to talk.
- 46:05About there. Oh my God.
- 46:07I mean, let's just have a quick tribute to Jared Jones real
- 46:10quick, right? I mean, that's a guy that got
- 46:12hurt in spring training. He had some hope.
- 46:15He had some nasty stuff last year.
- 46:18He's young. He already had Tommy John
- 46:20surgery at Oklahoma. And yeah, the worst came with
- 46:25them. Now he's got the elbow surgery.
- 46:27I think he penned a nice letter to the fans.
- 46:29He was disappointed that he has to go through this again and and
- 46:33he's going to be back, you know, hopefully next year at some
- 46:36point. You know, he's it's about the
- 46:38same time, give or take, where Bieber was hurt as well.
- 46:41He was only about, you know, three or four starts in, you
- 46:43know, so that was about late April, early May, you know, just
- 46:47to kind of give you a timeline. You know, Bieber's just kind of
- 46:50got into a throwing program. Now there's a plan for him.
- 46:53So I wouldn't expect Jared Jones for a little bit.
- 46:57So even going into next year, you know, he's, he's a, he's
- 47:00probably a late flyer stash into that.
- 47:04So yeah, rest in peace at least for 2025.
- 47:08Jared Jones, maybe Edwards, right.
- 47:11You know, you mentioned the numbers with them in, in the
- 47:14strikeouts and yeah, bats and stuff and, and they're really
- 47:17phenomenal. There's just been a points leak.
- 47:18He just doesn't get you a lot of points, unfortunately.
- 47:21You know, 78 points to this point, you know, you expect him
- 47:24to at least have over 100 points and it just hasn't happened yet.
- 47:28So it it's kind of tough, you know, so I wouldn't blame you if
- 47:31you had an Xavier Woods that or Xavier Woods, Xavier Edwards.
- 47:37If you're shopping for a shortstop at this point, even
- 47:39with him hurt when he comes back, maybe you'll find someone
- 47:42better to get on that that shortstop side.
- 47:44It's a tough position to fill sometimes, and I think he's just
- 47:47more of a categories guy, right? He hits you for, all right,
- 47:51average. He'll keep that average up for
- 47:52you. He'll get stolen bases in there
- 47:54for you. OBP is going to be somewhat
- 47:57decent because he doesn't strike out a lot.
- 47:58So he'll still get on base. And like I said, the stolen
- 48:01bases, he got 11 this year so far.
- 48:03So yeah, hopefully he comes back sooner than later.
- 48:05And then who knows, maybe that second-half will turn it up
- 48:07right? Blanco never good to.
- 48:10Hear about second opinions. Of Blanco and we did talk about
- 48:14him a little bit before because last year he he threw a lot of
- 48:18innings, right. We talked about we talk about
- 48:20Taylor Hulk, you know, maximizing his innings last year
- 48:24going into this year, really throwing a lot of clunkers now
- 48:27obviously injured Blanco kind of the same thing, a little wear
- 48:30and tear last year going into this year, you know, he pitched
- 48:34the most things he's ever had last year.
- 48:36Now this year he's got that wear and tear.
- 48:38So that second opinion does scare me.
- 48:40I mean, you stash him for now. Obviously he's somewhat
- 48:43productive on a productive team in Houston, but you do have to
- 48:47take the alternative and think I might lose him for the rest of
- 48:50the year year. So if you have to, maybe might
- 48:53have to go shopping, you might have to go shopping sometimes.
- 48:56And it's tough to find a good pitcher at A at a good value
- 48:59because a lot of teams, you know, fantasy teams
- 49:01specifically, they value pitching.
- 49:04So it's tough to find those guys in the in the depths.
- 49:07You're going to have to trade something usually for a pitcher.
- 49:10So you have to keep your options open.
- 49:12And then who else do we have on here, Doug?
- 49:14I mean, Verlander, you know, that guy just never really put
- 49:17it together in the last couple years, I feel.
- 49:19And you know, I, I'm a Verlander guy too.
- 49:21The guy's a stud. He's a competitor.
- 49:23He's he's fierce, you know, and he's just one of those alphas.
- 49:28He he is an alpha. So hopefully this injury is, is
- 49:33short term. I don't know.
- 49:35It's, it's up in the air. He is over 40 at this point.
- 49:39Just don't know what you're going to get with Verlander when
- 49:42you put him out there from a fantasy perspective.
- 49:44So I think unfortunately, I hate to say this, but I think you
- 49:47just have to drop him at this point.
- 49:49He hasn't been doing you anything this year to this
- 49:52point. He doesn't pitch deep enough in
- 49:53the games. And I think the biggest number
- 49:55that concerns me right now is that walks.
- 49:57He has no control right now on that mound.
- 50:00So for me right now, I'd rather, you know, I'll someone else like
- 50:04a Blanco. If you have limited spots and
- 50:07you have to pick one over Verlander because I think we saw
- 50:11the best of Verlander a few years ago, I think we're done
- 50:13with that. And yeah, Dylan Cruz's been
- 50:17turning around a little bit. Still not as productive as we
- 50:20like to see, but it is what it is.
- 50:22And yeah, Anthony's saying don't tear, man.
- 50:25That guy's just kind of coming out of the gates.
- 50:26Little cold, too. And, you know, he's probably
- 50:29trying to fight to this injury because he did just get paid.
- 50:32You know, he expects himself to also produce.
- 50:35But you just can't fight injuries.
- 50:36Sometimes you just have to let it be.
- 50:38So I'm kind of glad he's taking this time off and you know,
- 50:41hopefully this inflammation is not too serious here and you
- 50:45know, we'll we'll take it from there.
- 50:46And Alaska is resource and that you mentioned he'll be back
- 50:51sooner than later. That Detroit line.
- 50:53I like that Detroit team just in general, not even about the hurt
- 50:57locker. I just like that team in
- 50:59general. I think they're I think they're
- 51:00doing some good stuff there. I think they'll make a move too
- 51:03to get another bat in there. Yeah, I totally agree.
- 51:07And I do have some updates. To go by, I know we usually
- 51:10sometimes don't do updates, but I thought it'd be kind of fun
- 51:12because there are a lot of pitchers that have been or
- 51:14players that are on the IL that are kind of fantasy relevant
- 51:17that are slowly starting to come back.
- 51:19And let me run through this list real quick.
- 51:22So Dodger starting pitcher show here.
- 51:24Otani started mixing in sliders, curveballs in the bullpen this
- 51:27past Wednesday. He is preparing to make his way
- 51:30back to the mound. When that will be, I don't know.
- 51:33I think next week he'll start throwing from the mound, but I
- 51:37still don't know what they're going to do as far as in game.
- 51:41Like, are they going to, you know?
- 51:43Obviously he's going to go live hitters.
- 51:44Is he going to go right from like a SIM game to major
- 51:46leagues? Is he going to do a minor league
- 51:48stint and then come back? I feel like he's just going to
- 51:51do live hitters maybe before a game or something.
- 51:53You know, you get a 7:00 game, have them come in around 1, you
- 51:57know, while everybody's warming up, have them maybe do like a
- 52:002-3 innings SIM and then slowly maybe you start putting them
- 52:03into the game. Tyler class now, he was on the
- 52:06mound, he's beginning to throw a throwing progression.
- 52:10He'll throw in the bullpen today.
- 52:12So he should be back in a couple weeks.
- 52:16Toronto started pitcher Max Scherzer, he's going to throw
- 52:18two more bullpen sessions and then he's going to progress to
- 52:20live hitters. So you're looking at maybe 3
- 52:22weeks for him. Cole Raggins, he's been throwing
- 52:25daily. He has yet to throw off a mound.
- 52:27He is still recovering from that left groin.
- 52:31He might, honestly. Probably be like a month away.
- 52:34You got to be at least with a groin injury out.
- 52:37Angels outfielder Mike Trout's playing catch.
- 52:39He's doing agility drills. The only hero left for him to do
- 52:42is running bases. As of now, he's running 80%.
- 52:45So he might just be like a week away, believe it or not.
- 52:48And then Diamondbacks relief pitcher Justin Martinez, who I
- 52:52actually full, full, you know, he I honestly, I did not know
- 53:01how good he was until I started watching him at the beginning of
- 53:03this year. And then guys throws, 9798 comes
- 53:07in, they're blowing people away. I'm like, why are the
- 53:11Diamondbacks doing this? You know, open by committee,
- 53:15There's your closer, like put him into the roll and forget it.
- 53:18So he will at some point, hopefully take over that closer
- 53:22roll. He threw an inning in an A, an
- 53:25ACL game this past Sunday and then he threw a scoreless frame
- 53:30with AAA Reno on Tuesday. So that's telling me he's
- 53:33probably going to come back maybe late next week and
- 53:36hopefully take that closer role, which he should have been given
- 53:39earlier this year. And he's a guy to hold on to,
- 53:42man. He is.
- 53:43He's dynamite. And that team is there.
- 53:45He's going to get the opportunities for sure.
- 53:48He's just, I mean, he. Throws gas.
- 53:50He comes from the. Left side, right, he he's got
- 53:52he's got the package. And yeah, Tori Lavella is kind
- 53:55of playing this tit tat game right now, like at closer and
- 53:59going back and forth with some of these guys.
- 54:00And, you know, I kind of wish he just kind of made a decision.
- 54:04Justin Martinez looks like he has that stuff.
- 54:06He he what do we call him? We he passes the eye test, you
- 54:10know, in our eyes at least. So I yeah, I agree with that.
- 54:13He definitely should be back in that closer role when he does
- 54:15come back. Hey, Mike Trout, right?
- 54:18I feel like every week we get an update, but it's like a nothing
- 54:21update, you know? You don't really.
- 54:22Oh, well, he's swinging that bat.
- 54:23Whoa. He's on a treadmill today, you
- 54:25know, and it's just like, well, that what does that do right now
- 54:28for me? And you don't really get an idea
- 54:30of what that timeline looks like yet.
- 54:32And then you have to think that this point, he's been out for a
- 54:34couple weeks, if not three weeks at this point, you probably will
- 54:37need a rehab, you know, maybe a couple at bats, you know, a
- 54:40couple of games down there. So before coming back and then
- 54:43even when he does come back, you know, your expectation should be
- 54:47what his numbers are right now. He doesn't hit a lot of average
- 54:49right now. He does have power.
- 54:52He doesn't get a lot of ton of Bobby Eyes opportunities because
- 54:54of the lineup that he plays in. So when he comes back, evaluate
- 54:59him. You know, he's like an outfield
- 55:003 right now until he starts really hitting the ball in my
- 55:03opinion. You know, he's a decent utility,
- 55:06but he does strike out. He does, you know, like I said,
- 55:09doesn't hit for that average like he used to.
- 55:11He's not the same guy, unfortunately, like we've seen
- 55:14we take him, you know, on a late flyer this year.
- 55:16A lot of people kind of maybe reached for him a little bit
- 55:19because they thought maybe he was going to be 100% healthy
- 55:21playing a corner round field position the whole year.
- 55:24But it just hasn't come to that fruition yet.
- 55:26And then that injury bug is just always kind of just been with
- 55:29him since like the last 3-4 years.
- 55:32So it's just kind of a continuous pattern with him.
- 55:35So just tread lightly when he does come back.
- 55:37Max Serzer, you know, kind of the same thing with Mike Trout.
- 55:41It's like, I feel like I got an update like every day with Max
- 55:43Serzer, but it's like sometimes it's even like a negative, you
- 55:47know? You know, first his thumb, now
- 55:49he's got tightness and it's this and that and this and that.
- 55:52It's another guy that's over 40 years old that's trying to
- 55:55pitch. He's not the same Max.
- 55:56He's not throwing 100, he's not throwing that nasty stuff
- 55:59anymore. So you got a temper your
- 56:01expectations with them when he comes back?
- 56:03I got him in a couple leagues. I got a mustache, especially to
- 56:06pitch a heavy league. I don't have a lot of high
- 56:08expectations. If I can get A5 inning win out
- 56:10of him, I'd be actually happy with that at this point.
- 56:14Tyler Glass now, I mean, jeez, another.
- 56:17I mean all these guys are injury bro.
- 56:19Oh my God, I feel like we're talking about these guys.
- 56:21Almost every other week when they get on, they.
- 56:23Get on here. But I'm glads knows out there
- 56:25though he is very really good. He is above par pitcher when he
- 56:29is healthy. He's just made out of glass, no
- 56:32pun intended. So that's just who he is.
- 56:35Bullpen on Friday, we'll see if he starts getting to that rehab
- 56:37start. Hopefully by next weekend.
- 56:40He'll probably need a few of them.
- 56:41So I don't expect him back for at least another maybe 3-4
- 56:44weeks, Right, Which lead me into the Otani talk.
- 56:49We talked about him pitching this year and how they're going
- 56:51to use him potentially and are they going to use him as a
- 56:54starter, how they're going to stretch him out during this
- 56:56time. I think you nailed it, Doug.
- 56:58I think, you know, he'll get to the ballpark early, maybe throw
- 57:01a couple stimulated games, maybe 2-3 innings.
- 57:04How they're going to build up that pitch count, I'm kind of
- 57:06curious about as well. And then from there, you know,
- 57:10when he comes back, what's his role going to be?
- 57:13You know I like. The idea of putting him in the
- 57:15back end of the Volt pen, you know, as a, as a, as a closer,
- 57:20you know, down the line, you know, we always talk about that
- 57:22World Series game. Well, Tiny closing the game, I
- 57:25can totally see it still. I still have that vision.
- 57:27I'm not letting that go. I know they got that behind
- 57:30there, but it just for some reason, it just makes sense to
- 57:33me. And and that way it's a little
- 57:35risk too, because you don't want him to go out there, you know,
- 57:38throw 6-7 innings, you know, let's say four or five starts
- 57:42and all of a sudden he gets hurt, you know, because he's
- 57:44he's pitching, you know, long into games and stuff.
- 57:47And now all of a sudden you might have watched you bat too
- 57:49at the same time. So I don't know why you would
- 57:51want to risk all of it at the right away when he comes back.
- 57:56Been saying that too. I don't.
- 57:57Think he's going to come back pitching?
- 57:59Until after the All Star break, anyway.
- 58:01If he's not throwing on a mound yet, he's still going to pitch
- 58:03up his pitch count. I think there's a long, long
- 58:06road for him to go. I don't see him coming back in a
- 58:08month. I see it kind of going into July
- 58:12and to me at that point. You might as well wait till the.
- 58:14After the All Star break and and evaluate there.
- 58:18So, you know, is it a luxury and fantasy to have Latani as a
- 58:22pitcher? I don't know.
- 58:25I think when you drafted him, I think you knew you.
- 58:27Were going to put him as bat yeah for sure I.
- 58:30Think you'll get more value. Anyways, and this is a guy who
- 58:33can give you 40 something points a week as a hitter versus as a
- 58:37pitcher who's probably only going to give you one start.
- 58:39I mean his two starts a week in a weekly line up are going to be
- 58:42few and far between. But I do I do have some updates.
- 58:48As far as today goes, Paul Skeens went six, gave up one.
- 58:54He was, he left, they had the lead, they blew the lead.
- 58:57They're down 3 to 2. So Skeens is going to get the no
- 58:59decision quality start. Ronald Cunha made his debut
- 59:03today, first pitch, first at bat, first home run.
- 59:06He's 2 for two. Although I they're, I think
- 59:09they're only up there. It's like 2 to 1.
- 59:11So actually it's one to one, sorry.
- 59:14So obviously he's not really bringing that spark to that
- 59:16lineup everybody's hoping for. And then Goldie and his first at
- 59:22bat today hit a RBI triple, his first triple in three years.
- 59:27So he is he is producing for that Yankee team.
- 59:30And I expect him if you grabbed him, you got him extremely late.
- 59:35Just reaping the benefits, man, Reaping them, you know?
- 59:40You know how bad I. Just got when you just said
- 59:42he's. Got the They blew the lead.
- 59:45I mean, that's another. Another point, another point
- 59:47right there for just why you, why you easily.
- 59:50He's just kind of, you're just going to make him mad.
- 59:53You just kind of frustrate him more when you just keep him on
- 59:56your team and you continuously to blow games and he gives you
- 59:59everything he's got. 6 innings, one in a run.
- 1:00:01Hate strikeout. Continuously strikeout pitcher
- 1:00:05continuously it. Is so frustrating, so
- 1:00:09frustrating. I baffled, baffled by that.
- 1:00:15I'm so, so flustered by that right now.
- 1:00:19But Isaiah Pereira has hit a two run.
- 1:00:21Shot today this guy. My God, man, you know part of
- 1:00:28that. Houston.
- 1:00:29Trade with the Cubs and I mean that's what they that's what
- 1:00:32they wanted. They wanted to to get a top
- 1:00:35prospect and Cam Smith and you know, not the hottest style
- 1:00:38obviously for Cam Smith so far, but hey, he's 20 years old he's
- 1:00:42got to figure it out in the Major League club.
- 1:00:44So this is kind of like a wash year for him, but they also got
- 1:00:47like a Major League Baseball player to replace Bregman and
- 1:00:51man, he's been doing it. He really has been just
- 1:00:54producing. But Hakuna, man, first pitch.
- 1:00:58I mean, you know, can't write that story better, you know, but
- 1:01:02let's see if he keeps it up though.
- 1:01:03Let's see if he stays healthy. When he's healthy, obviously 5
- 1:01:07tool player, you know, home runs RB is he's got the glove, he's
- 1:01:11got the stolen bases. So let's see.
- 1:01:14Hopefully he stays healthy. You know we talked about him
- 1:01:17going back into the Atlanta lineup, hopefully putting a
- 1:01:19spark in that team because that team was way too talented to be
- 1:01:23as playing as bad as they have been.
- 1:01:25So hopefully maybe tonight's the the beginning of the of the ride
- 1:01:29for the Atlanta Braves, but it's it's too early to tell it's too
- 1:01:34early. I know.
- 1:01:36All right, so let's. Let's take a break.
- 1:01:38Oh, and this just broke, too. Kento Marte just hit a home run.
- 1:01:42All right, I feel a little bit better.
- 1:01:45All right, so yeah, let's take a break.
- 1:01:46And let's just real quick, we'll come back, we'll talk about the
- 1:01:50hottest and coldest hitters of fantasy baseball week that just
- 1:01:53passed and then some good buy low, sell high candidates and
- 1:01:58look over some of the ones from last week and think we did and
- 1:02:01let's see how we did. I think we did pretty good.
- 1:02:02But let's let's take a break. It's only going to be about a
- 1:02:05minute and 1/2 or so and we'll be right back.
- 1:02:08All right, So don't go anywhere. We'll see you on the other end.
- 1:02:13You're going back in. There's still men out there.
- 1:02:21God damn. ask me, hey, who? Why do you do it, man?
- 1:02:35Wow, some kind of war junkie. I won't say a goddamn word.
- 1:02:43What they won't understand, they won't understand why we do it.
- 1:02:52They won't understand it's about the men next to you.
- 1:02:58And that's it. That's all it is.
- 1:03:03Find us on the web at. NB Radio dot US want to make it
- 1:03:07clear that the views expressed by our.
- 1:03:09Hosts are not considered the official stance of NBR Views.
- 1:03:14Remember, this is all about having fun and enjoying the
- 1:03:16ride. And now the guys you just love
- 1:03:18to hate. Trash.
- 1:03:19It's it's. It's a dusty fireman.
- 1:03:23It's a man. It's it's not.
- 1:03:26Doug and Mike are. Back with more bourbon and ball.
- 1:03:28All. Right man.
- 1:03:43Right. So these numbers you're going
- 1:03:45to. See are from our ESPN points
- 1:03:47league. Again, most points leagues or
- 1:03:49even Cats leagues, these are probably going to be the top
- 1:03:51players for them in in any format. 2 pitchers, 2 hitters.
- 1:03:56Weeks are from Thursday to Thursday.
- 1:03:59Well, no Thursday to Wednesday and then I write on Thursday
- 1:04:04mornings when when we start putting the script together.
- 1:04:07So here they are for this week. I'll run down the hitters and
- 1:04:10then we'll run down the pitchers.
- 1:04:13So first and foremost, Tyler Ward, he's only 55.6% owned.
- 1:04:20He hit 433 full home runs, 12 ribbies, 9 runs, no stolen
- 1:04:26bases, 8 strikeouts, 53 points. He gave you 7.6 a start.
- 1:04:31I will say those numbers might be a little inflated if you get
- 1:04:34we get we get extra points for Grand Slam.
- 1:04:36So we get hit a Grand Slam, so keep that in mind.
- 1:04:40Next up first, first baseman Bryce Harper.
- 1:04:45He is 99.8% owned. He hit 500.
- 1:04:48He had a home run, 9 ribbies, five runs, two stolen bases of
- 1:04:52strikeout, 40 points. He gave you 5.7 a start and then
- 1:04:56some audible mentions. Cody Ballinger gave you a 37.
- 1:04:59He was a buy a low guy that we had.
- 1:05:02Rafael Devers was a buy a low guy, he gave you a 36.
- 1:05:05So pretty good numbers, all what you'd expect from a lot of these
- 1:05:11people versus where you where you drafted them.
- 1:05:13Tyler Ward gave you he's still a free agent, almost more less
- 1:05:17than half the leagues. And Cody Belanger was a really
- 1:05:19late draft pick for some people, surprisingly, considering he
- 1:05:22plays 2-3 positions, DH, outfield and 1st.
- 1:05:26But yeah, those are those are this week's hottest.
- 1:05:28Hitters. Hey, shut up, Tyler.
- 1:05:30Ward, I mean he. He goes on these like good
- 1:05:33streaks, you know, every year I feel like he has like these
- 1:05:36weeks where he is just that best hitter in baseball.
- 1:05:39Then all of a sudden he comes back to reality.
- 1:05:42But man, what what what he does hit, though.
- 1:05:44He is a very, very good hitter. And he is a dangerous hitter.
- 1:05:49You know, the Grand Slam, like you said, probably inflated
- 1:05:51those numbers a little bit. But really, you know, you're
- 1:05:53batting 433. You're still knocking in 12
- 1:05:56ribbies. You know, you're still having a
- 1:05:57very, very good week. So hey, if you need outfield
- 1:06:01help, that's a great flyer right there at least.
- 1:06:04Really nice to see Bryce Harper on this list.
- 1:06:06We feel like we haven't talked about Bryce Harper much this
- 1:06:10year. And I feel like even.
- 1:06:12Last year he wasn't even on this list.
- 1:06:14I don't even know if he was at all.
- 1:06:17But the half the week he did, hey, that 509 RBIs, one Homer
- 1:06:22only struck out once. I think that's the biggest
- 1:06:24factor in this right here. Really just disciplined at the
- 1:06:26plate, really just did his job well.
- 1:06:29And I mean, the two stolen bases is actually a nice surprise too,
- 1:06:33kind of running a little bit more this year.
- 1:06:34He's got a few stolen bases this year.
- 1:06:36So it's good to see that from Harper.
- 1:06:39And you know, like we talked about first base in tough
- 1:06:42position to fill. So you probably reached Harper.
- 1:06:45You know, is he playing through his fullest potential so far to
- 1:06:47this point? You know, I think that's
- 1:06:49debatable if he is. But you know, as of last week
- 1:06:53though, at least you got what you paid for with Harper and
- 1:06:57Ranger Suarez last in the past, huh?
- 1:07:00See, I didn't, I didn't get to the pitchers yet.
- 1:07:03No. Oh, you did.
- 1:07:05You did. You did hitters.
- 1:07:07That's. Right.
- 1:07:08So. Let's go back to Cody Dellinger
- 1:07:10real quick then. You know I love the belly.
- 1:07:14You do love the belly and you've you kind.
- 1:07:16Of called this break out the past like week and 1/2 or so
- 1:07:19like you're like man, Belly's really signed a swing.
- 1:07:21A really good bet, huh? And I, I think like the last 2-3
- 1:07:24weeks, he really has been really starting to produce now again,
- 1:07:28which is great to see because like you said in drafts, you
- 1:07:31know, he went a little bit later.
- 1:07:33But I think the expectation of being a Yankee and, and being
- 1:07:36under control now and he, he's going to have a home for a
- 1:07:39couple years there being a lefty batten at Stadium.
- 1:07:41I think he's getting really comfortable there.
- 1:07:44Also he was a West Coast guy too, coming from LA.
- 1:07:47Then he went to the Cubs Midwest and now he's on the East Coast.
- 1:07:50So there's a lot of, you know, adapting that you got to do
- 1:07:53there, I think just as a player. But hey, he's a major leaguer.
- 1:07:57He's been in the league since he was really young.
- 1:07:59So he seems like he's older than he is, but he's not so pretty
- 1:08:02relatively youngish guy. So it's great to see him.
- 1:08:05I expect him to keep the prediction up, to be honest with
- 1:08:08you. I don't see him, you know,
- 1:08:10hitting a, a bad, bad floor anytime soon.
- 1:08:14And then Devers, you know, I, I have to eat my words a little
- 1:08:17bit with Devers because I was a little concerned this year on
- 1:08:19the beginning of the year, especially in that Texas series,
- 1:08:21you know, and no, he he completely pulled a 180.
- 1:08:25He's all the way back. He's hitting for that power
- 1:08:27again. Obviously we talked about the
- 1:08:29game he had today, just a stud game and it was late too, when
- 1:08:33they were losing, which is awesome.
- 1:08:35That's what you want to see and you start players.
- 1:08:37So, I mean, all that concern that we had I think is pretty
- 1:08:40much wiped out at this point. And he's batting 285.
- 1:08:44He's got a bunch of home runs. He's got a of the eyes now.
- 1:08:47He's right on pace of that 3100 season.
- 1:08:50And you know, he should score you probably over 400 points, if
- 1:08:53not more in your points league. You know, if it's similar to our
- 1:08:57categories like we have here. So that's really good.
- 1:09:00Corbin Burns. We'll talk about him.
- 1:09:02Later. I'm getting ahead.
- 1:09:05Of myself today you're very. Excited.
- 1:09:08I don't know, got some great. Names on here.
- 1:09:11It's antsy. I know.
- 1:09:13All right. Let me.
- 1:09:14Let me. Dive in then, all right?
- 1:09:15Let's talk about we'll, we'll go starting pitchers now.
- 1:09:17All right, so Philly's starting pitcher, Ranger Suarez, he's
- 1:09:20only 48% owned in leagues, right?
- 1:09:23He went two and O 13 2/3 in each pitch, 12 strikeouts, four
- 1:09:28walks, 3 and he gave you 45.56 points.
- 1:09:32I will say though, they were against Pittsburgh and Colorado,
- 1:09:36so you know, it's pick and choose here, right?
- 1:09:40And let's not forget he is one of those guys that will lights
- 1:09:44out first half, second-half lights off.
- 1:09:47Like, you know, lights on. That's just how he is.
- 1:09:49He's not a great second-half pitcher at all.
- 1:09:51I always say sell high on him, but that's another day.
- 1:09:54And then Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rendon.
- 1:09:56He's 93.7% own he's 2 and O he had a 1111 innings pitched, 13
- 1:10:00strikeouts, six walks, only one earned.
- 1:10:02He gave you 42 points. That was against the Mets and he
- 1:10:06only won five innings. And then Texas, so good points,
- 1:10:1142.28 points for for only giving you not even a quality start in
- 1:10:15one of those games. And then for honorable mentions,
- 1:10:18I do have Corbin Burns, like you said, 36 points, who I said was
- 1:10:20going to turn it around, who I tried to buy low and they would
- 1:10:23never trade him. Jimmy, Jimmy Joe Ryan got you 30
- 1:10:26points. He was a guy that we said buy
- 1:10:27low or hold because we knew he would turn it around.
- 1:10:30And he has he's actually been on this list.
- 1:10:31I think a couple weeks ago he said a great 3 or 4 weeks
- 1:10:34almost. And then Mel Kelly, who's kind
- 1:10:37of like, I mean, I didn't realize he was 36 years old, but
- 1:10:40he's really turned it around too.
- 1:10:42He gave you almost 30 points. I think he had 11 strikeouts his
- 1:10:45last start. So yeah, yeah, overall.
- 1:10:49And you know, what's funny is when I, when I, I noticed when I
- 1:10:52put these lists together, a lot of the people like if your team
- 1:10:57gives you like it goes four and two for that week, chances are a
- 1:11:00lot of the players on that team are on the hot list.
- 1:11:03You know, you got Meryl Kelly, you got, you know, Corbin Burns,
- 1:11:07then you got Ranger Suarez and Bryce Harper.
- 1:11:10So they always come in and then Cody Ballinger and Carlos Ron
- 1:11:13Dome. So it's always like, you know,
- 1:11:14packages based on how the team's playing.
- 1:11:16And so again, you know, it's, it's really funny to see that
- 1:11:21and also see who they're playing.
- 1:11:23So obviously, like I said, Ranger Suarez, Pittsburgh and
- 1:11:26Colorado, and then you see Bryce Hopper in here with those, those
- 1:11:29he hit 500. So it's obvious to see why he
- 1:11:32hit 500, but it's good to see. These guys beating up on teams.
- 1:11:36They should beat though, right? You know, Rangers, Suarez, he's
- 1:11:39not an all, you know, make all be all, you know, pitcher.
- 1:11:43He's not going to, you know, last year he had an unbelievable
- 1:11:46first half. Obviously fell off a little bit
- 1:11:48in that second-half, but still a very productive fantasy pitcher
- 1:11:51all all around, though. And, you know, really you should
- 1:11:54be beating up on teams like Pittsburgh and Colorado.
- 1:11:57I mean, hey, shout out to Colorado, huh?
- 1:12:01Man, Only eight wins so far this year, Really.
- 1:12:03Modern day history, Worst record ever.
- 1:12:06Man, He thought the White Sox were gonna be bad.
- 1:12:08I mean, the Rockies were like, man, hold my cores light, I'll
- 1:12:11show you what's bad. And yeah, I mean, they should be
- 1:12:14getting beat up. And the Yankees, I think are
- 1:12:16actually playing in Colorado this weekend as well.
- 1:12:18So they should have a pretty big series.
- 1:12:20So if you got Yankee bats, put them in the line up this
- 1:12:23weekend. You might get some some mega
- 1:12:25points. Who knows?
- 1:12:26Well, you got Goldie already. So I'm saying, see, it's already
- 1:12:30happening. You already?
- 1:12:31Oh yeah, it's already started. It was at 8:00 start.
- 1:12:33That's right. So, yeah, you know, Rangers
- 1:12:35Suarez, it's the guy you ride or die with.
- 1:12:38You know, I think he's a good guy to have in your rotation,
- 1:12:41but I'm not banking on him to the pitch out, lights out like
- 1:12:44he has this past week against those teams.
- 1:12:46I think more competitive teams, I think going to get more
- 1:12:48realistic. Rangers Suarez, A56 innings,
- 1:12:52maybe 3-4 depending on the team. Who knows, you know, they might
- 1:12:55just beat him up a little bit. So he's definitely a batch.
- 1:12:58It was pitcher in my eyes. And then Carlos Rendon, man,
- 1:13:01really having a really good year.
- 1:13:02He just has so many of these these clunkers and some of these
- 1:13:06innings. And I think this is where the
- 1:13:07walks come from because they're all bunched up together when you
- 1:13:10watch them. But other than that, though, he
- 1:13:12is electric on that mound. And I got to give him credit
- 1:13:16because this is a guy that we kind of laughed at a lot because
- 1:13:19he just never stayed healthy. He kind of got beat up a lot,
- 1:13:23but seems like he's kind of panning out this year and just
- 1:13:26being like a a legit fantasy starter and just that's wrong
- 1:13:31with that at all. He's easily at #2 and #3 this
- 1:13:34year, especially for the team he plays on too.
- 1:13:37Him and Max Reed have just been really, really good for them to
- 1:13:39see for the Yankees stabilizing the top of that rotation while
- 1:13:43not having Garrett Cole this year either.
- 1:13:45Going to say just imagine if they had Garrett Cole.
- 1:13:47Where? Would they be?
- 1:13:49You know they're already at the top.
- 1:13:51So. I mean, they're they're already
- 1:13:52in that same conversation like I talked about with the Mets, you
- 1:13:56know, they went to the World Series last year at the Yankees.
- 1:13:58I expect them to at least get back to the ALCS with the team
- 1:14:01that they got still even without Soto.
- 1:14:03And this pitching is going to actually help them get to that
- 1:14:06point. I think if Max Reed and both
- 1:14:08Carlos Rendon can stay healthy for this year.
- 1:14:11So it's great to see these guys producing in the teams that
- 1:14:14they're doing right now. We talked about Cloven Burns a
- 1:14:17little bit. I mean, the guy you drafted him
- 1:14:19top of your draft boards as a pitcher.
- 1:14:21You expected more from him to this point.
- 1:14:24Maybe this is the turn around. We're seeing it here, 36 points
- 1:14:27back-to-back, good starts. Maybe Arizona's starting to heat
- 1:14:30up a little bit now. They were late bloomers last
- 1:14:33year. We saw them in the second-half
- 1:14:34explode. Cloven Burns just needs to get
- 1:14:36his feet settled first. This guy's a stud all the way
- 1:14:39through. This guy you want to keep all
- 1:14:42the way through, put him in your line up every week.
- 1:14:43It sounds like he looks like he's actually found it.
- 1:14:47Joe Ryan, man, Joe Ryan. I love to see Joe Ryan producing
- 1:14:49because we knew he was going to. You just kind of have to go with
- 1:14:53the rocks sometimes when you're playing from Minnesota.
- 1:14:55But when he's out there, he's pitching quality starts.
- 1:14:58He's giving up maybe one or two runs.
- 1:15:01You know, he kind of got the hose this week, right?
- 1:15:03Because he this week he did pitch in that suspended game,
- 1:15:07came out pitch pretty well, you know, and then Duran blew that
- 1:15:11game, you know, so you lost out on points on that win.
- 1:15:14So even Joe Ryan could be even higher on this list if if you
- 1:15:19got that win. But no, he's been solid so far
- 1:15:22to this point. Like you said, the last three
- 1:15:24weeks or so, he's been one of the top pitchers in the league
- 1:15:26for sure, easily a top ten pitcher.
- 1:15:29And then Mayor Kelly's just kind of like a man.
- 1:15:32But if you got Mayor Kelly on your team, you guys got lucky
- 1:15:34here with the the points that he's scoring right now.
- 1:15:37Well, like you said though, Doug, you know when these teams
- 1:15:39will start to win, you start to see these guys kind of get in
- 1:15:41bunches when it comes to the who's hot and who's not.
- 1:15:44And you know, that can go for multiple aspects.
- 1:15:47Like you said, hitters and pitchers can kind of go
- 1:15:49together. But maybe you just have a week
- 1:15:51where all your pitchers just slam dunk.
- 1:15:53And it seems like Colton Burns and Merrill Kelly did that this
- 1:15:56week. So from a Merrill Kelly
- 1:15:58standpoint, I like to ride the hot hand.
- 1:16:00You know, you got to be cautious with the matchups for sure.
- 1:16:03I didn't see who he pitched against so far this week to get
- 1:16:06those 29 points. But I'm still cautious when I'm
- 1:16:08playing the Dodgers. I'm so cautious when I'm playing
- 1:16:11even San Diego. They can start, you know,
- 1:16:13whacking the ball anytime they want to as well.
- 1:16:16So it's great that he's playing. You play with the hot hand, but
- 1:16:20just tread lightly just because Barrel Kelly doesn't have this
- 1:16:24reputation of being a stud for the whole entire year.
- 1:16:27So it's nice to have a a guy that produces that you don't
- 1:16:30expect but don't continue to expect the same production from
- 1:16:34him. So yeah, it's great to see, you
- 1:16:36know, because these guys like Philly 36, he's been in the
- 1:16:39league forever and I feel like he's been with Arizona forever
- 1:16:42too. I know.
- 1:16:44Yeah. I think we.
- 1:16:45Have our Yeah, I think. We have our hot players for next
- 1:16:49week. We talk about Devers with two
- 1:16:52home runs. One was a Grand Slam, 25 points.
- 1:16:54Well, Pete Crow Armstrong has two home runs and a Grand Slam
- 1:16:58today. So are we, are we, are we
- 1:17:02finally comfortable? To say, Doug, that that Pete
- 1:17:05Crow Armstrong is here to stay. No.
- 1:17:07Nope. I know.
- 1:17:09You are I just I'm not a fan of him.
- 1:17:11I don't I don't know what it is. I just I'm honestly, if Tucker
- 1:17:15doesn't resign with them next year, his his numbers are going
- 1:17:19to go down in the toilet, you know, so I I still don't think
- 1:17:23he is the the the one all save all in that line up.
- 1:17:27Tucker is the one who I mean Tucker hits a two out single,
- 1:17:32you know, say it walks to load the bases and now they're loaded
- 1:17:36for PCA and he hits the Grand Slam right and you know it's
- 1:17:40they're playing the Reds. So it's.
- 1:17:43Not the best team in the world and.
- 1:17:45Hunter Green was on there and he only went 4 innings, you know
- 1:17:50so. It is what it is.
- 1:17:52I still. Don't, I still don't think PCA
- 1:17:55is, is the, the guy everybody thinks he is.
- 1:17:57I mean, I think he's he's, he's riding hot.
- 1:18:00You know, players do that. Trade them, trade them for a set
- 1:18:04if you can, especially if you're in a redraft league.
- 1:18:07You know, it's a guy you got really, really late that it's
- 1:18:10producing. You know, I mean, look at, look
- 1:18:11at me. I got, you know, it's funny, we
- 1:18:14talked PCA in his two home runs. But Perez, Perez who who I
- 1:18:18picked off off a free agency, he had a horrible couple weeks.
- 1:18:23He's turned it around so much. He has almost as many points as
- 1:18:26PCA. He might be 10 points away.
- 1:18:28He had a home run today. You know he's averaging you like
- 1:18:312.9, almost three points a start.
- 1:18:33When I picked him up he was at like 1.6.
- 1:18:36He's hitting them in bunches. Not to say he's always going.
- 1:18:38To do it. But like, that's, you know, if
- 1:18:40you have these players and you know, you're holding on to them
- 1:18:43to be hot, now's the time to trade them, that's all.
- 1:18:46Yeah. I mean, Pete.
- 1:18:47Pete. Crow seems like he's.
- 1:18:48Having like a Jared Duran year. Remember Jared Duran last year
- 1:18:52just kind of came out of nowhere, except I feel like PCA
- 1:18:55just got a little bit more popular is bad too than Duran
- 1:18:58did. Yeah, it's.
- 1:19:01It's 162. Games it's really tough to do
- 1:19:03that for the whole entire year consistently and and Pete Crow
- 1:19:06Armstrong too, you know he's still very.
- 1:19:09Very young. He is a, he was a top prospect
- 1:19:13and you you did expect, you know a lot from him when you did
- 1:19:16draft him and stuff. And it looks like he's putting
- 1:19:18it together. You know, can you do
- 1:19:21consistently though for the whole year?
- 1:19:22We'll see. But it's tough because I don't
- 1:19:25want to discredit him because there's nothing for me to to
- 1:19:29discredit to this point. I.
- 1:19:34I know Sean has. Him, you know, I hate that Sean
- 1:19:38has him. He's producing for him, but you
- 1:19:41can't have. Producing for him.
- 1:19:43We, you know, we'll say we told you so, that's all.
- 1:19:47Yeah, yeah, absolutely. But.
- 1:19:49At this. Point though, I I just have to
- 1:19:50give him the tip of the cat. He's just been he's just been
- 1:19:53really good in that lineup. And I, like you said, I think
- 1:19:56it's because of fucker, you know, bad with him in that line
- 1:19:59up right next to him. And there's there's different
- 1:20:02elements that go into it. But I mean, PCA, you can't ask
- 1:20:05so much more than what he's been doing.
- 1:20:08Exactly. All right.
- 1:20:09So let's dive. Into who's not hot, right?
- 1:20:15Let me pull that up right now. And some of these, these
- 1:20:22probably don't surprise you when you see it again.
- 1:20:27Let me just go through the hitters first and then we'll go
- 1:20:29through pitching. All right, So first and
- 1:20:32foremost, you get Mets. This, this is a second time,
- 1:20:35second week in a row Pete Alonso's on here again.
- 1:20:40Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, he's still 99.7% on.
- 1:20:43Again. It's the second time in a row in
- 1:20:45two weeks he has made this list of Gold 167.
- 1:20:48No home ones, one ribby, no runs scored, no stolen bases, 9
- 1:20:52strikeouts -2 points for an entire week.
- 1:20:57Padres outfield, Jackson Merrill, he's 96.9% owned.
- 1:21:00He hit your 174. No home runs, no ribbage, two
- 1:21:03runs scored, no stolen bases, 9 strikeouts.
- 1:21:06He gave you -1 Just to talk about him for a second.
- 1:21:08I mean, this was a guy the first 2-3 weeks of baseball was
- 1:21:11hitting a 270. I mean, 370.
- 1:21:13Excuse me. He was on a tear, comes back and
- 1:21:16this is what happens. And I, and this is like I
- 1:21:19compare it. I'm only bringing this up
- 1:21:21because this is what I see like PCA that could probably do
- 1:21:23right. We just talked about him.
- 1:21:25I think Jackson Merrill probably could be better than him in my
- 1:21:28opinion, more consistent. But that's what happens.
- 1:21:32You you get so hot and then you, you know, expectations and then
- 1:21:35some audible mentions. Ian Hap gave you a -1 he just
- 1:21:38came back. So you know, Manny Machado gave
- 1:21:41you 0. So you know, just a couple
- 1:21:45couple guys, a couple hitters right there.
- 1:21:47No, I think you know. The theme.
- 1:21:50I think we just thought you just touched on there.
- 1:21:52This guy's coming back from injury and struggling coming
- 1:21:55back from injury right off the bat.
- 1:21:57So Jackson Barrow's a young guy still.
- 1:21:59He's only what, 21 years old? I think he was only 20 last
- 1:22:01year, you know, coming back from an injury from what it was 9
- 1:22:06strikeouts, you know, not really good at all.
- 1:22:09You know, that 174 average until last week.
- 1:22:13Sometimes it just takes these. Guys, a few at.
- 1:22:15Bats maybe like even like a week or so to really get that
- 1:22:19feedback on the room on a daily basis.
- 1:22:21You know, that routine going to the ballpark, practicing going
- 1:22:23into the games when you're hurt, you lose that routine a little
- 1:22:26bit you're still with the club, you're still stretching and
- 1:22:28stuff, but it's just being part of that that whole the whole
- 1:22:32spiel of things of playing in the game and practicing.
- 1:22:35You know, I I bring up Austin Hayes, right you know he came
- 1:22:38back from his injury at the beginning of the month right and
- 1:22:41he struggled those first few games.
- 1:22:43I and I only, I only say this because I just looked at his
- 1:22:45numbers and, and now he's looking really good again, like
- 1:22:50like he was before he got injured.
- 1:22:51So you know, like you said, Ian Hat come back from injury having
- 1:22:55-1 I just chalked up just having like a bad week.
- 1:23:00Going back to Pete Alonzo though, second, second straight
- 1:23:03week here. And we did talk about a guy last
- 1:23:06week in like Christian Campbell and he wasn't on a who's not
- 1:23:10list, but we talked about a guy that pitches figured out and
- 1:23:16Christian Campbell's having a hard time adjusting to what
- 1:23:18those pitchers are figuring out. I think Peter Lonzo's kind of
- 1:23:21going through that same thing. I think they're attacking him a
- 1:23:22little bit differently. He was red hot in April.
- 1:23:26Like probably player of the month.
- 1:23:28If I don't know who wants player of the month could have been
- 1:23:31him. I don't know if it was him, I
- 1:23:33wouldn't be shocked because that's how good he was.
- 1:23:36And that's why they have thirty wins too, is because of Pete
- 1:23:39Alonzo. But I mean, two weeks in a row
- 1:23:42being on this who's not list, you got to be pretty bad to be
- 1:23:46on this list twice in two weeks. And that means you're striking
- 1:23:50out that. Means you're not hitting.
- 1:23:51The ball that means you're not run knocking guys in.
- 1:23:54So that's not good. And we know Peter Lonzo from a
- 1:23:57long term aspect is going to give you strikeouts.
- 1:24:00He is going to still give you power and he's going to have
- 1:24:03these flaky weeks like he has. Am I putting up a red flag right
- 1:24:07now saying, oh, I need to do something about this?
- 1:24:10Probably not, because you probably have some draft capital
- 1:24:12that you put into them. You want to ride him out.
- 1:24:15He plays for a very good baseball team.
- 1:24:16He's batting in the middle of that lineup still.
- 1:24:19Unfortunately, this is guy ride or die.
- 1:24:21You don't bench a guy like Pete Alonso, I believe.
- 1:24:25So you just kind of have to take the good.
- 1:24:26With the bad sometimes. Or in this case, the bad with
- 1:24:29the good. Yeah.
- 1:24:31Go for it, Doug. Yeah.
- 1:24:33Yeah, I was. Going to say I mean this is.
- 1:24:34The guy. This is Pete Alonso, right?
- 1:24:37This is the guy Who Will Win you weeks and kill you weeks.
- 1:24:40You've said it from the beginning like this is you're
- 1:24:42holding on to it and I see and I was never Pete Alonzo guy.
- 1:24:45I know you are you, you like Pete Alonzo.
- 1:24:47I I just, I never liked him. I just, you know, a lot of
- 1:24:51strikeouts can you know, obviously, you know, I think I
- 1:24:55played Tim who had him last week, last year, I think, and
- 1:24:59and he goes off and hits like, you know, five or six home runs
- 1:25:01in a week and I'm like, well, what the hell, man?
- 1:25:03You know, and I lose. But then, you know, you kind of
- 1:25:07wish, hey, I wish you could only hit me three and then three next
- 1:25:10week. You know what I mean?
- 1:25:11It's like he gives it to you in bunches and then when he, when
- 1:25:14they're, when they're done for, you know, that week and you're
- 1:25:17not getting them now for two weeks in a row as an owner, you
- 1:25:22know, you, you do get kind of upset because you're like, OK,
- 1:25:25well, that's -2 points. I lost by 15.
- 1:25:29So if I, if I didn't start anybody, I'd lose by 13.
- 1:25:33If I started an average first baseman, I, I could probably
- 1:25:36win. So you know why?
- 1:25:39Not try. To let's see what I can.
- 1:25:43Get for him right? Because if he does.
- 1:25:45This for another week in a row that value is just crushing
- 1:25:48right you you're you're going from a pitcher you probably
- 1:25:52could have got maybe A1A at the beginning of the year when he's
- 1:25:54hitting over 300 to now maybe a 1B to maybe next week a two or
- 1:26:01three. You know the longer you wait and
- 1:26:04sit on some of these guys, the longer or the worse your value
- 1:26:07is going to get for him too. That's that's something you got
- 1:26:09to always kind of think of with as an owner anyways.
- 1:26:13Well, the nice thing about first base two this year.
- 1:26:15Especially. The draft was there were some
- 1:26:18value picks at first base. We talked about Cody Ballinger,
- 1:26:22you mentioned Paul Goldschmidt, you know, he went super late in
- 1:26:24leagues. Spencer Torkelson is still
- 1:26:27producing here. It'll run today too.
- 1:26:30He he has been a bright light in that lineup and that Detroit
- 1:26:33lineup. So if you have a Pete Alonzo
- 1:26:36maybe paired up with a Ballinger or a Torkelson or, or, you know,
- 1:26:41if you got, you know, really greedy at first bees, maybe a
- 1:26:44Vinny P who's starting to turn around a little bit.
- 1:26:47Yeah, I, I don't hate the idea of dangling Alonzo out there.
- 1:26:52You're still going to get someone really good for him.
- 1:26:54Still, people are still going to value him as a top first baseman
- 1:26:57at that fantasy position. So I I don't hate it whatsoever.
- 1:27:01I think that's a it's a good call.
- 1:27:02All right, let's try. Let's.
- 1:27:04Dive right into this starting. Pitching, yeah.
- 1:27:07And we had talked about some of these guys.
- 1:27:08Earlier. Coming back from injury, I don't
- 1:27:10know if I would have started them anyways.
- 1:27:12I know a couple people in our league started started Strider.
- 1:27:15I know one person started Strider.
- 1:27:17Maybe it's got my head. I mean, you know, fantasy 101,
- 1:27:20you got a guy coming back from injury, you probably don't start
- 1:27:22him his first start. That's just my opinion.
- 1:27:25Obviously you set your line UPS any way you think.
- 1:27:28But so Seattle started pitcher George Kirby.
- 1:27:32He's 80, about 84% owned. He went O and 1/3 and 2/3 in
- 1:27:36each pitch, 4 strikeouts, one walk, 500 and gave you a -4
- 1:27:39points. That was against Houston and
- 1:27:42Houston. And then Braves starting pitcher
- 1:27:44Spencer Strider. He's 86.4% owned.
- 1:27:47He went O and 1. He gave you four and a third,
- 1:27:49three strikeouts, one walk, four, and he gave you -4 points.
- 1:27:52That was at Washington, the Nationals, and then a couple
- 1:27:56honorable mentions here. Clayton Kershaw gave you a -1.8.
- 1:27:59Hunter Brown gave you a -3.6. So, you know, couple, couple
- 1:28:04guys, again, a lot of those guys are coming back from injury.
- 1:28:07I don't think I would have started in their first start,
- 1:28:09but some people like to take chances.
- 1:28:12It does pay off sometimes, but very rarely.
- 1:28:15No, I think I'm not worried about.
- 1:28:16Kirby I'm not worried about. Strider, you just got to give
- 1:28:18them time. My big concern with them is just
- 1:28:21making sure they're staying healthy, making sure they're
- 1:28:23going out, making their starts, building up the confidence,
- 1:28:26building up their pitch count, getting, you know, their control
- 1:28:28back and and just, you know, getting back into a rhythm
- 1:28:32there. So I'm not worried about either
- 1:28:33of those guys right there. I mean Kershaw, I mean you have
- 1:28:37to have, you know, an expectation when he came back.
- 1:28:40We did talk about that last week and I compared him to like this
- 1:28:43year's Verlander almost where if, if you can get 5 innings out
- 1:28:46of Kershaw and a win, man, I think that's like the juiciest
- 1:28:50thing you can get. Because I think those days of
- 1:28:52him getting 6 innings, 7 innings, you know, 567 keys, I
- 1:28:55think those days are kind of over for Kershaw.
- 1:28:58So I think at this point, whatever innings you can get out
- 1:29:00of them, it's great. So from a fantasy perspective, I
- 1:29:03don't know how great that is at this point.
- 1:29:05So I'm, I'm treading lightly with Kershaw.
- 1:29:07Last week was his first start back.
- 1:29:09I probably wouldn't have started him as well just because he
- 1:29:12didn't know what you're going to get.
- 1:29:14And then Hunter Brown, this -3.6, this was Wednesday, This
- 1:29:19game was in Tampa, and it was a 1:00 game in Tampa.
- 1:29:23Now, I think you all know at this point, I live in
- 1:29:25Clearwater, FL, I'm about 20 minutes away from Tampa.
- 1:29:29Do you know how hot it is out there at 1:00 on a Wednesday?
- 1:29:33It is 90°, sweltering, and the air is very, very thin.
- 1:29:40It is very hot. You stepped outside, you were
- 1:29:43sweating. I'm, I'm, I'm talking it up to a
- 1:29:46very, very hot start for Hunter Brown because I think I, I do
- 1:29:51think that has something to do with it.
- 1:29:53I just, I can't ignore like the heat down here and Hunter Brown,
- 1:29:57he's been so good this year. I'm not steering away from my
- 1:30:01man. That's my guy loves Hunter
- 1:30:03Brown. Adam, last year we saw that
- 1:30:05second-half. I think it was like the first
- 1:30:07like 3 weeks he struggled, but then man, he became the ace last
- 1:30:10year for a lot of games and, and really picked it up this year #1
- 1:30:16pitcher still so far, even with that lot still, that goes to
- 1:30:19show you how good of a pitcher he's been to this point.
- 1:30:22So not worried about these pitchers probably at all.
- 1:30:25Maybe Kershaw a little bit just because he's older.
- 1:30:28Don't know what you're going to get from mom.
- 1:30:31But ultimately, you know, he looked pretty good today.
- 1:30:33I mean, he gave. You 2 innings, 1 strikeout, No
- 1:30:36earned, gave you a walk, but he only had 26 pitches against the
- 1:30:42Mets and they took him out. No, it was a.
- 1:30:45Rain delay, OH. Bummer.
- 1:30:48Yeah. So he did look good you.
- 1:30:50Know so I don't know I obviously I don't think you know the
- 1:30:55strikeouts are you know you're going to see 10 strikeouts and
- 1:30:58you know Clinton Vintage but he might be fantasy rosterable.
- 1:31:04I mean it's such a great offense you might not take the chance
- 1:31:07and start them right. I think Roster Bowl is very fair
- 1:31:11at. Least have him on your team, see
- 1:31:13what he does. Worst case scenario, you drop
- 1:31:15them, right? Yeah, and and.
- 1:31:18And Sean? Who's listening out there in our
- 1:31:21league? He said.
- 1:31:22Where's Hoffman on the cold list?
- 1:31:24We don't do relief pitches, but he he has.
- 1:31:27I mean, he's not. Something tells me so Philly,
- 1:31:31the Phillies didn't want to extend him because of they, they
- 1:31:34were scared of his something with his, with his physical came
- 1:31:38back and there was a question about it.
- 1:31:40And, and I don't know if maybe that's the reason why you're
- 1:31:46seeing him like this month just struggle.
- 1:31:50Maybe there really was something because because Toronto, you
- 1:31:53know, they they looked at that and was like, well, I don't
- 1:31:55think it's going to be an issue. So we'll sign you and you got a
- 1:31:58pretty good deal for him to be their closer.
- 1:32:00But maybe the Phillies are onto something.
- 1:32:02Man, you know that first month Hoffman was one of the best
- 1:32:07fantasies closures. Closures period in the.
- 1:32:09League and now he's he's scuffling.
- 1:32:13You know I think he's got 2 losses 3 blown saves like that's
- 1:32:17ZR as over six. Luckily, I mean, I'm I'm winning
- 1:32:21enough so it's not like hurting me hurting me, but it's still I
- 1:32:25mean, maybe like I said, maybe the Phillies are just they were
- 1:32:28just on to something. Maybe he really is hurt.
- 1:32:30Maybe there's something going on there.
- 1:32:32You know, it's put making me want to question if I even want
- 1:32:35to start him next week or take him out.
- 1:32:38It's. Fair.
- 1:32:39It's fair. I mean, we talked.
- 1:32:40About clothes, you know, a couple weeks ago how flaky they
- 1:32:43are. Really, it's really hard to find
- 1:32:46a lockdown guy. There's maybe only.
- 1:32:47Like 3 or 4 in the league at this point.
- 1:32:49Josh Hayter, though, I will say is.
- 1:32:51My guy, man. In the rough so far, Josh Hader,
- 1:32:55Mason. Mason Miller is still a stud,
- 1:32:58you know, out in in the A's, Sacramento there.
- 1:33:03But yeah, it's really tough to find the guy that's just locked
- 1:33:05down. You know, Luke Weaver's been
- 1:33:06doing pretty good for the Yankees since he took that role.
- 1:33:09Yes, and I'm. I'll tell you man, that's.
- 1:33:11That's wild that they, I mean you trade for Devin Williams,
- 1:33:17you know, all right, so we got a little less than 1/2 hour.
- 1:33:20So this is going to be crunch time here.
- 1:33:21So we're going to hop into our some of our buy high and sell
- 1:33:24those. All right, so let me just start
- 1:33:34out last week. We had a sell high on Paul
- 1:33:37Goldschmidt, I said. We drafted him, now's the value
- 1:33:40he gave you. 13 points for the week, 2.2 a start.
- 1:33:42Pretty decent, still pretty good.
- 1:33:45If you wanted to hold on to him, you could.
- 1:33:46I just said I just think you got him so low.
- 1:33:49The values there for him. Jung Hoo Lee we said sell high
- 1:33:52on. He only gave you eight points.
- 1:33:53He gave you 1.3 a start. So that was a pretty good call.
- 1:33:57You know, Robbie Ray, he gave you a no decision, still gave
- 1:33:59you 15 points. And then some of the by lows we
- 1:34:02had, we had Seger, we had Cole Raggins, both on the IL,
- 1:34:06something to take a chance on if people wanted to sell.
- 1:34:09We said Trey Turner and Turner had a really good week.
- 1:34:11He gave you 26 points, 3.7 to start and we said try to buy low
- 1:34:15on them. So that was a good call on our
- 1:34:17part as well for that. So I have first.
- 1:34:23On this list and and. I don't know if it's more of a
- 1:34:24buy low, it's more of just a buy, if that makes any sense
- 1:34:28because they're already at a low and I I'm pretty sure we did
- 1:34:32talk about them before. He might have made the cold
- 1:34:35list. I'm pretty sure Jose Altuve, 2nd
- 1:34:38baseman, outfielder, DH, he's 92% owned overall.
- 1:34:42He's giving you a 243 average, six home runs, 18 ribbies.
- 1:34:46He's giving you 1.9 a start. I do have him on here.
- 1:34:50He's almost a sell high because he had a good week, right?
- 1:34:52He only had 200, but he gave you a stolen base.
- 1:34:55Only three strikeouts, two home runs, 4 ribbies, 21 points gave
- 1:34:59you 3A start, which is a lot higher than the average he's
- 1:35:01giving you. Now, obviously these were he hit
- 1:35:04two home runs last night. So that's where the two home
- 1:35:06runs come from. It were his first home runs in
- 1:35:10three weeks. I think he's still a name.
- 1:35:13I think people like a good name. I think, you know, I don't
- 1:35:16necessarily think you're selling high at this point because
- 1:35:19you're not going to get back someone of the same value.
- 1:35:22I think, for instance, he was drafted in the sixth round in
- 1:35:24our league. I don't think you're going to
- 1:35:26trade somebody in the sixth round.
- 1:35:27So again, those trade expectations need to go down,
- 1:35:31but he doesn't care a ton. So there is value in that,
- 1:35:34right? I think if you if you want to
- 1:35:36sell, sell now you're still not selling high, but I think you're
- 1:35:39selling a little higher than you might have, but maybe oh, a
- 1:35:42couple weeks ago anyways, because at least now he's
- 1:35:44showing you some power with two more runs in a game.
- 1:35:47Hey, small window right here for a.
- 1:35:50Guy that hasn't been producing probably where you drafted him
- 1:35:52like you just said, I mean two home runs this week, you know,
- 1:35:55has a home in three weeks. Like this is a guy, he's getting
- 1:35:59older, right? Not.
- 1:36:00The same. L2V that we we all loved in
- 1:36:02between before, like you said, the strikeouts still not
- 1:36:07striking out, which is great and there is value to saying that
- 1:36:10too. And he is a vet, but doesn't
- 1:36:13mean he can't pick it up at any point of the season 2.
- 1:36:17But if you have other options, you know, you might as well just
- 1:36:21go with those. I think sometimes at this point
- 1:36:23and sometimes you just have to be like, hey, if I got a couple
- 1:36:25guys that are, you know, the same position, like we talked
- 1:36:28about Pete Alonzo, like, you know, Pete Alonzo and Spencer
- 1:36:31Torkelson, right? You know, and it's like, man,
- 1:36:33one of these guys are expendable.
- 1:36:35I might just sell, you know, my big name guy because I think I
- 1:36:38can get more form, even though I want I want to trade him because
- 1:36:41I like this other guy better. So Altuve kind of fits that
- 1:36:45bill. Like let's say you have Altuve
- 1:36:48and let's just throw Christian Campbell's name out there just
- 1:36:51for Yup, just because we mentioned them earlier.
- 1:36:54You know, I think they're just about this year the same player
- 1:36:57when it comes to points. It's not really that much of a
- 1:37:00difference between the two and it becomes preference.
- 1:37:02And it's like, well, I drafted Altuve higher.
- 1:37:05I think Altuve still has a name to it.
- 1:37:08So I think someone's going to bite on that.
- 1:37:10And again, second base, it's a little thin at times.
- 1:37:13So this is a good opportunity for a trade to happen.
- 1:37:17And what can you get for Altuve as well?
- 1:37:20I think you can get a pretty solid picture still in back
- 1:37:22form. You know, we, we were talking
- 1:37:25about Dustin May earlier a little bit in our in our tech
- 1:37:29exchange on one thing. I mean in Dustin May, you know,
- 1:37:32you don't, you don't know what you're always going to get on
- 1:37:34the other side with Dustin May, but when he pitches well, he is
- 1:37:37effective. You know, he had 24 points
- 1:37:40yesterday in our league, pitched quality start, got the win,
- 1:37:43obviously had some strikeouts obviously in there as well.
- 1:37:46Clearly still has strikeout power in them.
- 1:37:48You know, that's maybe a a picture that you can get for
- 1:37:51like an out two day. Like you said, you're not going
- 1:37:53to get that sixth round value back for him, but you can still
- 1:37:56get something that's going to be at least productive for your
- 1:37:58team, right? And and it's funny.
- 1:38:01Because we're always talking about.
- 1:38:02Like, you know, we got into a little heated argument, not us,
- 1:38:06but our group chat earlier this week still put it out there
- 1:38:09because I'm all about full transparency.
- 1:38:12I was part of that, yeah. Yeah, and.
- 1:38:15I don't know how I. Got shuffled into that.
- 1:38:18But so the guy had at Bryce Harper and I had offered him, I
- 1:38:23think I offered him like Tony G and Cody Ballinger.
- 1:38:26And he told me it was a garbage trade.
- 1:38:29Obviously, I will admit, you know, that was maybe a couple
- 1:38:31weeks ago and Cody Ballinger wasn't hitting, but Tony G was
- 1:38:34still, you know, 2 and O and three starts.
- 1:38:36Still pretty good numbers. And yeah, I thought he was.
- 1:38:41I still think he's a good. Pitcher.
- 1:38:42But you know, it was more of like expectations and like, you
- 1:38:46know, to me, I think like we talk about like certain people
- 1:38:50overvalue and I think, you know, this guy overvalues Bryce
- 1:38:53Harper. You know, I think, you know, I
- 1:38:56can sit there and say, well, look at, I mean, Josh Naylor has
- 1:38:59more points than him. Well, he had more points than
- 1:39:02him at the time. He might not anymore.
- 1:39:03It might be like 5 behind because Harper had a really good
- 1:39:06day the other day. But you know, Naylor had more
- 1:39:10points than him. He was drafted later.
- 1:39:11You know, Cody Ballenger now was only like 10 points behind him
- 1:39:14at this point. You know, I'm like, how is that
- 1:39:17such a garbage trade? And then he trades them for
- 1:39:19Hunter Green straight up. And Hunter Green did not look
- 1:39:22good today when 4 innings came up.
- 1:39:24Four earn. It's, you know, personally, if I
- 1:39:29had Bryce Harper, I would rather do Cody Ballinger for Tony G You
- 1:39:32know, that to me that that makes more value for me.
- 1:39:35I'm getting a pretty decent pitcher and I'm getting a pretty
- 1:39:37good hitter that I can move around.
- 1:39:39I didn't think it was garbage, but you know, yeah, there are
- 1:39:43people that just overvalue people.
- 1:39:44And to me, Bryce Hopper is not the guy that he thought he was,
- 1:39:47in my opinion. And then to go out and train him
- 1:39:49for hunter green, It's whatever. Yeah, it's again.
- 1:39:55You know I. Think it's.
- 1:39:56Just the person's preference on what they want or who they think
- 1:39:59is good and stuff. Like we all have our guys and I
- 1:40:02respect that, you know, I do. But then I, I see like, you
- 1:40:05know, some trade offers and compared like you said, you
- 1:40:08compare it to yours sometimes and you're just like man, like.
- 1:40:12Was I really that far off or is this the person really just
- 1:40:14blowing smoke up me right now? Because, you know, they just
- 1:40:17didn't like the names, you know? But you got to look at the
- 1:40:20production too. You got to be, you got to be
- 1:40:21honest across the board. And I think sometimes people
- 1:40:25don't get. So honest.
- 1:40:26And they still have that name recognition.
- 1:40:28And we do say sometimes like that name recognition can get
- 1:40:30you to a certain point. But I feel like sometimes in our
- 1:40:34leagues that we play in, you know, everyone should know who
- 1:40:38everyone is and have an expectation that's very similar
- 1:40:40to one another, right? Like no one's fooling me on
- 1:40:43Bryce Harper anymore that he is the elite Bryce Harper from
- 1:40:47before, you know, and I don't think anyone's fooling you
- 1:40:49either with that. You know, you got to have
- 1:40:52realistic expectations for these guys, who's what they they are
- 1:40:55now, what they've not or what they were before.
- 1:40:58And I think some people have a hard time with that and, and
- 1:41:01value, you know, because value can change really quick, whether
- 1:41:05an injury pops up or a guy just breaks out, you know, and all of
- 1:41:10a sudden just has his career year.
- 1:41:11Like we talked about PCA earlier and there's just different
- 1:41:15aspects to it. And then it's like I said, it's
- 1:41:17preference on who you want, Who do you think is going to do good
- 1:41:19later on? You know, I made a trade with
- 1:41:22you this week, right? And it was a pretty big trade
- 1:41:24and there was some backlash on that.
- 1:41:26And, and really I kind of laid it out why that the trade was
- 1:41:31the thought process behind it. You know, I think people were
- 1:41:34surprised. I traded Brandon Wu, who we did
- 1:41:36say to sell high on and now he's got this leg injury.
- 1:41:40Now he's going to go to a six man rotation.
- 1:41:42I think I did a pretty decent job selling him at the peak.
- 1:41:44I thought, you know, and then, you know, got a couple other
- 1:41:48guys in the deal as well. But it depends on how someone
- 1:41:51else values someone else. So, you know, guys in our league
- 1:41:54valued some of the guys that I traded to you more than the guys
- 1:41:58that they valued that you traded to me.
- 1:42:00And I, I think sometimes I just look at a little bit
- 1:42:03differently. They look at it differently.
- 1:42:05You got to respect other people's opinions.
- 1:42:07You know, it did get heated a little bit for sure.
- 1:42:10No disrespect. You know, it's just all part of
- 1:42:13the game, you know? But yeah, I mean, everyone has
- 1:42:16their favorites and that I think.
- 1:42:19That's the thing you got to realize when you're in.
- 1:42:21Leagues too, is you know, you, at least for me anyways, is I'll
- 1:42:24send a trade and yeah, it might be like a joke just to test the
- 1:42:27waters, but send something back. You don't send something back,
- 1:42:30then don't complain. I mean, you know, I send you and
- 1:42:34then, you know, then this person in particular goes, well, what
- 1:42:37if I gave you Bryce Hopper? And then of course the trade
- 1:42:39expands, right? I'm going to be Bryce Hopper and
- 1:42:41this guy for Corbin Carroll. I'm keeping Corbin Carroll like.
- 1:42:45How does a trade go? From, you know, 2 for one to A2
- 1:42:49for one on your end to, I mean, like, listen, I'm not trading
- 1:42:52Corby Carroll. He's my keeper.
- 1:42:54I said it when I drafted him. I'm going to keep him.
- 1:42:57You know, it is what it is. But it's just I, I just
- 1:43:00obviously it's like, you know, everybody likes their guys, but
- 1:43:03you know, it's, I don't know that's what's making trades so
- 1:43:06difficult sometimes. I know I ended up I, I did end
- 1:43:09up trading Cody Ballinger and I and Austin Wells for Sangai for
- 1:43:15the Mets. I thought that was a pretty
- 1:43:17good. Trade I, I think.
- 1:43:18Zynga. That's a great offense.
- 1:43:20I think he's pitching really good, you know, no harm or foul.
- 1:43:25You know, I got the guy I wanted.
- 1:43:26I basically just traded Cody Bellinger for him straight up
- 1:43:29because Austin Wells was on my bench and I picked him up all
- 1:43:31free agency. So no harm, no foul on that.
- 1:43:35But you know, it is it's some people are just easier to trade
- 1:43:38with. That's all.
- 1:43:39You and I, we, we flopped in that trade as well.
- 1:43:42You got Tucker, Al Tucker and I got Lindor back and I think a
- 1:43:46lot of people looked at that and were like, hey, you just traded
- 1:43:49Kyle Tucker like top three, top four bat.
- 1:43:51Well, you got to take the keeper aspect into it as well.
- 1:43:53You can't keep Kyle Tucker next year.
- 1:43:56I can keep Lindor for the next two years on a team that's
- 1:44:00that's very good. So I think that kind of evens
- 1:44:02out there, you know, and it's not like Lindor's slouch like
- 1:44:06the guy is top two, top three shortstop in the league.
- 1:44:09If not #1 So I mean, we're not We're not.
- 1:44:13Too far off here I feel. Like with the trade, but you
- 1:44:15know, like I said, people have an opinion.
- 1:44:18I respect it. You know, the text messages,
- 1:44:21sometimes they come off hard, but it's not because it's we're
- 1:44:24trying to be like, you know, Dicks or anything like that, you
- 1:44:28know, but you know, we're just, we're just trying to.
- 1:44:31Almost sometimes. Justify something that we really
- 1:44:33don't have to justify, right? Yeah.
- 1:44:36It's like, hey, we're going to do our trade.
- 1:44:37I mean, what's it to you type of, you know, mentality,
- 1:44:42whatever it is, what it is? All right, so let's tell.
- 1:44:46You we only got like 15. Minutes so we're going to have
- 1:44:48to breeze through. So next I have right here sell
- 1:44:51high. I I, I say sell high.
- 1:44:54He's he's having a really all right an average pedestrian
- 1:44:58compared to last year's season, 22653 homers, 29 ribbies, a lot
- 1:45:03of strike. He's got 51 strikeouts, 12
- 1:45:06stolen bases. He's giving you 2.4 start, which
- 1:45:08is about average. I had a great week, hit you 381,
- 1:45:12gave you 3.5 a *21 total points. Again, you might not be selling
- 1:45:16high, but you're now is a good time to sell as opposed to maybe
- 1:45:19earlier in, you know, a week or two ago.
- 1:45:23He he's been underperforming based on where he drafted him
- 1:45:26and our league. He was a keeper, right?
- 1:45:272.4 start, like I said is is fantasy relevant, but it's not
- 1:45:31close to that 2.93.2 he was averaging last year.
- 1:45:35I think based off the week he's had, that could be optimism that
- 1:45:39he could break out and could continue.
- 1:45:41You know, you want to keep them. I understand why, but if you're
- 1:45:45looking to trade them, why not try to sell them now?
- 1:45:48You know, this might be the time to do it.
- 1:45:50I would totally understand, like I said, if you want to hold on
- 1:45:52to him, but I think I mean, you could get good value on him.
- 1:45:55And like we always talk about, you don't want to be sit there
- 1:45:58holding a guy that just ends up fizzling out while he's on your
- 1:46:01team because that's the worst. So why not try to get something
- 1:46:04you can for him after a good week?
- 1:46:07Yeah, I I don't think there's a. Right or wrong answer here?
- 1:46:10I think he's still pretty productive, you know, 2.4 is
- 1:46:13obviously below par for him from what he has been doing so far.
- 1:46:16But I do like his strikeout rate.
- 1:46:17It's not too bad. It's about under 25%, which is
- 1:46:23not bad. I I just like to see the the
- 1:46:25stolen bases maybe a little bit uptick when he does get on base,
- 1:46:29just so kind of Even so strikeouts out a little bit
- 1:46:32more. But man, this guy's a streaky
- 1:46:34guy. When he's on, he's on.
- 1:46:35He gets you, he gets you everything.
- 1:46:37He gets you on base. He'll steal bases, he'll score
- 1:46:39your runs, he'll lock in a couple guys.
- 1:46:41You know, he's got some pop in his bat.
- 1:46:44You know, you like you said, Doug, you probably drafted him
- 1:46:47at a pretty decent value if he wasn't in a keeper league or
- 1:46:50anything like that. But I'd say decent.
- 1:46:53I'm talking, I'm talking like maybe fourth round, maybe even
- 1:46:55late third round, depending on how deep the league is and
- 1:46:58stuff. And based off his production
- 1:47:00last year, you know, it's kind of where the value fits.
- 1:47:03So yeah, I mean, obviously this year you had to know that he was
- 1:47:07going to have a little bit of regression for sure.
- 1:47:09But yeah, I think he still plays for a pretty good offense.
- 1:47:13He's still going to be batting on top of that line up.
- 1:47:16And you know, it's it's only it's only May 23rd.
- 1:47:21Still a lot of baseball left. He's a talented guy.
- 1:47:23That's a guy I'd rather have on my team.
- 1:47:25Like you can only say there's a lot of baseball left.
- 1:47:27Until there's not a lot of baseball left.
- 1:47:30Well, I think last week, I said. We're 1/4 way to through.
- 1:47:32So we got we got like, you know, we actually have like bigger
- 1:47:36sample sizes to this point. But we've seen guys that that
- 1:47:41are just late bloomers in the year where they really struggle,
- 1:47:44you know, for the first couple of months for some reason, for
- 1:47:46whatever reason, it is battling injuries, you know, maybe drama
- 1:47:50in the clubhouse, whatever. But I'm not totally far fetched
- 1:47:54of saying that this guy cannot pick it up and and be a top top
- 1:47:5815, maybe even top 10 outfielder by the end of the year easily,
- 1:48:04easily. I would my only my only.
- 1:48:07Push back to that would would be well, listen, you know, he's
- 1:48:11been underperforming this time through and I'm stuck with them
- 1:48:14and you know, I might be kind of sick of it by now.
- 1:48:17We're 1/3 of the way through the season.
- 1:48:20You know, if he turns it around, all right, that's great.
- 1:48:23I look like a genius holding on to him.
- 1:48:24If he doesn't, well, I kind of just screwed myself because, you
- 1:48:28know, you still got to make you still got to win weeks to make
- 1:48:31the playoffs, right? So it's like, how long do you
- 1:48:33hold on to somebody or or ride them out until, until you know,
- 1:48:38you decide he's really not worth.
- 1:48:39It. Yeah, and.
- 1:48:42That's fair and and if you're. Going to make that decision.
- 1:48:44I think you got to make it sooner than later, right?
- 1:48:47I think you know we're talking. You know.
- 1:48:49One week away from June, you got to make that decision sooner
- 1:48:52than later. If you're going to ride or dive
- 1:48:53with the guy, he's been playing pretty good right now, so you
- 1:48:56could sell him high right now for a good place.
- 1:48:58All right. And then.
- 1:49:00Last but not. Least I do.
- 1:49:02Have this guy, we all know who he is.
- 1:49:05Philly's starting pitcher, Jesus Lizardo, He's 92.4% owned.
- 1:49:09He's having you guys 5 and O, 60 innings pitch, 67 strikeouts, a
- 1:49:13195 ERA. He's giving you 16.3 points a
- 1:49:16start. Had a great win against Colorado
- 1:49:20just recently. I want to say what, yesterday or
- 1:49:22the day before? This is Ranger Suarez 2 point O
- 1:49:26from last year. This guy reminds me exactly of
- 1:49:29Ranger Suarez, who came out last year red hot only to tank in the
- 1:49:33second-half. And nothing tells me this guy
- 1:49:35won't do the same. Maybe, maybe, probably sooner
- 1:49:39than later. You know, we all know how he is,
- 1:49:41you know, obviously different team, but same pedigree.
- 1:49:45You know, I'm happy to see he's pitching great, but he's a
- 1:49:47career for ERA pitcher. He's only pitched 66 innings.
- 1:49:51Last year and. He's already there.
- 1:49:53He's already hit last year's numbers.
- 1:49:56You know, he's always been a strikeout guy, but these numbers
- 1:49:58are just not sustainable. You know, you struck gold with
- 1:50:01them, whether you picked them up off a free agency.
- 1:50:04He was drafted in the last round of our draft.
- 1:50:06So now's your opportunity to trade him for a pretty good
- 1:50:08hitter. You know, just keep in mind that
- 1:50:10people are probably going to value him or they they might be
- 1:50:14reluctant to trade a great bat for him because they know he's
- 1:50:19going to hit the, you know, he's going to come down and fall down
- 1:50:21back to earth. You know, and I remember again
- 1:50:24and from our league last year, this guy who had Ranger Suarez,
- 1:50:28you know, selling them, trying to take the bait.
- 1:50:30Hey, I'll trade you this for this arm.
- 1:50:32You want this for him and then he's like, fine, you don't want
- 1:50:33them. I'll just hold on to him, man.
- 1:50:35I'll hold on to somebody with a, you know, a two point OERA.
- 1:50:37And then, you know, what happened at the end of the year
- 1:50:41wasn't a two point O anymore. So listen, I say you get rid of
- 1:50:45them now if you can get what you can.
- 1:50:47I think you know, I I don't blame him for trying to trade.
- 1:50:49Him at that point either Rangers Suarez last year, you know, we
- 1:50:52we probably would all be doing the same thing because no one
- 1:50:55had reigns of Suarez on their bingo card to be a productive
- 1:50:59fantasy pitcher. But the thing with Jesus
- 1:51:02Lizardo, though, I think it's a little different.
- 1:51:04I think there is more value with him than like a Rangers Suarez
- 1:51:07because, you know, we talked about Pittsburgh producing
- 1:51:09pitchers and all that good stuff.
- 1:51:12Miami. Miami throws a lot of good
- 1:51:15pictures into the organization and they ended up moving and
- 1:51:26yeah, like right now they got Max.
- 1:51:27Mayer in there. You know, Edra Edric.
- 1:51:31Cabrera is a little raw. Still, he's not quite there yet.
- 1:51:34And then Erin Perez, you know, they got a lot of good prospects
- 1:51:36in there. You know, they just got rid of,
- 1:51:38you know, he's just Rosado to Philly.
- 1:51:41You know, I think a couple years ago they had Pablo Lopez, right?
- 1:51:43He's a productive pitcher still. He was in the Uriah's swat from
- 1:51:47Minnesota, right? So these guys end up producing
- 1:51:50for some reason just like quality pitchers all of a
- 1:51:53sudden. So in saying that, now you got a
- 1:51:55guy that's, you know, coming from an organization that breeds
- 1:51:58really good pitchers. Now he's pitching for a
- 1:52:00competitive baseball team and maybe we're starting to see the
- 1:52:03better side of Lozano at this point.
- 1:52:06Now, he's never done this in a career, like Doug said.
- 1:52:08So, you know, is he going to continue doing this the whole
- 1:52:11entire year? Probably not.
- 1:52:12He's going to have some clunkers in there for sure.
- 1:52:14But is he still worth rostering and having on your team?
- 1:52:17Absolutely, freaking lutely. I feel like this guy's easily
- 1:52:20right now at #2 #3 pitcher right now because it's just, you know,
- 1:52:24pitching's not consistent across the board.
- 1:52:27And like I said, you always have to re evaluate these guys at
- 1:52:29points. And I mean, after, you know
- 1:52:31what, 6 or 7 starts and he's got almost 200 points and he's got
- 1:52:3550 record with 60 innings like that.
- 1:52:38That's pretty good with 67 strikeouts.
- 1:52:40So he's a, a power pitcher right there.
- 1:52:42Eighteen walks, maybe a little little high.
- 1:52:44You know, that's three to one there.
- 1:52:47You know, it's gonna, that's gonna affect the WHIP a little
- 1:52:48bit, but it's still gonna be very, very, very, very good.
- 1:52:52You can definitely sell him high.
- 1:52:54But if you said I want to keep him because I think he's, he's
- 1:52:56going to be productive and he's going to be good.
- 1:52:59I, I don't hate that either, You know, and the, the point of the
- 1:53:02segment too, is because a guy's playing good and they say you
- 1:53:05can go either way. The point is to try to maximize
- 1:53:08your trades. That's the whole point of this
- 1:53:10segment is to maximize, not because, you know, there's a
- 1:53:13right or wrong answer. We're just saying right now, at
- 1:53:15this moment, you can get the most for this guy, right?
- 1:53:19So let me for for by. Lowe's.
- 1:53:20I'm just going to. List all three and then you can
- 1:53:23you can talk, talk to them for a little, talk on them a little
- 1:53:27bit. We only got like 5 minutes or a
- 1:53:28little less. So I do have Padres.
- 1:53:31Outfield Tatis. I know he's 90. 9% owned.
- 1:53:33I know you're saying, well, why would he be on here?
- 1:53:35He gives you 3.3 a start. Well, last week he gave you 210
- 1:53:38strikeouts. They're starting to come on.
- 1:53:40He had a horrible week. I mean, you know, he, he he's
- 1:53:44you get 6 points for a home run when you count the home run,
- 1:53:47the, the RBI in the run and he still only managed to get you 2
- 1:53:50points for the week. So he had a home run, but he
- 1:53:52only gave you 2 points. He's striking out a lot.
- 1:53:55You know, if, if this is really just a buy, right, I, I think
- 1:54:00you're going to end up you're not buying low on him, but you,
- 1:54:02you should be buying him the the KS are becoming an issue.
- 1:54:07He's got 17 in the last 15 games.
- 1:54:09You know, earlier, earlier in the year.
- 1:54:11I don't think that that's that's happening, but he wasn't
- 1:54:16striking out a lot at the beginning of the year.
- 1:54:18Now you're starting to see that shift where you know, and, and
- 1:54:21that's the kind of guy he is, right?
- 1:54:22He's a career 280 hitter. He does strike out a lot, you
- 1:54:26know, 14150. I, I, I think he's still good.
- 1:54:31But I think, you know, maybe owners are starting to see,
- 1:54:34well, you know, he's not the 3:30 hitter that I thought he
- 1:54:38was going to be who hit like 10 home runs, right?
- 1:54:40He's starting to slowly taper off.
- 1:54:42And these are the expectations. He's coming back down to his
- 1:54:44career norms. And so this is a time to
- 1:54:47probably, you know, buy on somebody because, you know, you
- 1:54:50could probably buy him a little lower than he could have, you
- 1:54:52know, a couple weeks ago, Same thing but a little different in
- 1:54:56my opinion. This is Dodger second baseman,
- 1:54:59shortstop, outfielder, Tommy Edmond.
- 1:55:01He's 92% owned. I mean, he hit you 154 in the
- 1:55:04week. He gave you 4 points.
- 1:55:05He only had two strikeouts, right?
- 1:55:07He's giving you 2.8 a start. He's coming back from injury,
- 1:55:11still plays for a great line up. I think owners that held them
- 1:55:13were waiting for him to come back and and produce and make
- 1:55:16sure he can still hit and everything before they sold
- 1:55:18them. Because you never want to trade
- 1:55:19anybody on the IL just because you're going to get the lowest
- 1:55:23value for them because they're already hurt, right?
- 1:55:25So people when they buy them from you, they're they're taking
- 1:55:28a gamble. Not a ton of K's.
- 1:55:30So if you're in a league that penalizes you for K's, this is
- 1:55:33the kind of a guy you want to buy, right?
- 1:55:35I know he was bashing at the beginning of the year, but and
- 1:55:38that's expectations, right? He's not going to hit you 30
- 1:55:42home runs. It's he's a he's a smaller guy,
- 1:55:44but I think his his real, his real quality is his versatility,
- 1:55:52right? This is second base shortstop
- 1:55:54outfield, right? When you're buying somebody,
- 1:55:56you're buying somebody that you can plug and play whenever you
- 1:55:59need it. And this is a guy you could do
- 1:56:00that, right? He was drafted.
- 1:56:02I mean, I got him in the 16th round.
- 1:56:04So obviously if I do, I'm I'm not going to sell them for
- 1:56:09somebody that I got in the 16th round, right?
- 1:56:12I mean, but a 12th round pick maybe is somebody you could
- 1:56:15probably get for him. I think you can buy it.
- 1:56:18Buy him a little lower than maybe at the beginning of the
- 1:56:20year when he was red hot and he did hit you four runs in a week.
- 1:56:24And then I do have Michael King on here real quick.
- 1:56:26You know, Owen won his last start only giving you 5 and 3rd.
- 1:56:31Obviously great number overall. But you know, I I think he
- 1:56:35really goes 6/6 plus innings. I think his last 10 starts he
- 1:56:38went 6. So I think some pitchers might
- 1:56:40be looking to move on from him just because he doesn't give you
- 1:56:43a quality start. Yeah, real quick.
- 1:56:46I. Think the best value you're.
- 1:56:47Going to have to trade for is Tommy Edmund.
- 1:56:49I think that's a guy that you can get at a reasonable price.
- 1:56:52I think the other two guys in Tatis and King, you're going to
- 1:56:55have to give up a little bit more capital even though they
- 1:56:57might be by lows right at this moment.
- 1:56:59I just think there's going to be a price to pay still just
- 1:57:02because maybe the name value where they drafted, but Tommy
- 1:57:04Edmund, multiple positions coming back from injury didn't
- 1:57:07play that well. We talked about that earlier
- 1:57:09about some other guys coming back from injury.
- 1:57:11This is a good guy to buy right now.
- 1:57:12Awesome. All right.
- 1:57:15Man, well I hate. To call it a quick, but you
- 1:57:18know, it is that time we just did so much stuff to talk about
- 1:57:22today, that's all. So we talked about some of the
- 1:57:25IL players hitting the IL, some of the ones that are coming
- 1:57:28back. We gave some updates on is that
- 1:57:30as well as the hottest, coldest hitters of this past week for
- 1:57:32your fantasy lineup and some of the Best Buy low sell high
- 1:57:35candidates. Yeah.
- 1:57:37So, you know, if you end up wanting to watch the show again,
