- 0:00Speaker 1: John Jy and Rich Good morning, Ashland.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Hey, good morning, good morning.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Thanks for holding. What's up?
- 0:05Speaker 2: So I wanted to tell you guys about my boyfriend's
- 0:07Speaker 2: new business and his new purchase that went along with it. Okay,
- 0:14Speaker 2: so he started a new business, kind of went off
- 0:16Speaker 2: on his own from what he was doing before. And
- 0:19Speaker 2: the vehicle that.
- 0:20Speaker 3: He's using as his work vehicle is a cyber truck.
- 0:23Speaker 2: And like, nobody likes the cyber truck, right, you guys.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Agree with me there?
- 0:28Speaker 1: I like him. I just wish there were gas. Well
- 0:31Speaker 1: I couldn't call it cyber truck. They just have to
- 0:33Speaker 1: call it gas truck.
- 0:34Speaker 5: Why cyber means it's like, you know, something other than
- 0:37Speaker 5: a technology doesn't have to mean.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Electric is the name of it, right.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I just think it's kind of like I think when
- 0:47Speaker 3: he's been pulling up to these I mean it's a
- 0:49Speaker 3: small business, right, So like when he's pulling up to
- 0:51Speaker 3: these individual homes, like it's not really screaming like, oh,
- 0:54Speaker 3: this guy like needs my business, you know, like it's
- 0:57Speaker 3: kind of screaming like this dude wants everyone to know he's.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Rich, and he also wants to take my money.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Like I had a cyber truck.
- 1:04Speaker 6: That's true, but what happened to him? I had no money.
- 1:07Speaker 7: Does his cyber truck have his business plastered all over it?
- 1:12Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, it has logos on it.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:14Speaker 7: I kind of feel like you're looking at this all wrong.
- 1:16Speaker 7: Whether whether you love or hate the cyber truck. It's
- 1:19Speaker 7: almost like when one's driving down the road, you can't
- 1:22Speaker 7: not look at it. So it's almost like kind of
- 1:24Speaker 7: genius marketing because people are gonna look at his business.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I look at him all the time. I think they're cool,
- 1:29Speaker 1: but you.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Probably look at them and you're like they already have money,
- 1:31Speaker 2: like they.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Don't like I think it's turning people off, like yes,
- 1:35Speaker 4: it's advertising, but then it's like this person just has
- 1:38Speaker 4: a lot of money they want to borrow, or.
- 1:40Speaker 7: Or maybe you're looking at this all wrong again, or
- 1:43Speaker 7: they say, wow, that business probably does really well. A
- 1:45Speaker 7: lot of people use it. Maybe I should use it
- 1:47Speaker 7: as well.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I think maybe some people think like that. I don't
- 1:53Speaker 2: know what. I think.
- 1:54Speaker 1: You just hate the cyber truck. Does he know you
- 1:56Speaker 1: hate it? What does he say?
- 1:58Speaker 2: I mean, he says, I'm being ridiculous.
- 2:00Speaker 3: But if I'm looking for a local business.
- 2:03Speaker 4: And this giant stainless field triangle thing rolled up in
- 2:07Speaker 4: my driveway on my street.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I mean, I'm just going to be immediately suspicious.
- 2:10Speaker 4: So it just it doesn't scream small business owner. It
- 2:15Speaker 4: just screams I own at least three NFTs.
- 2:17Speaker 5: So yeah, I get it. I get it. So he's
- 2:24Speaker 5: not really he's not really taking your direction. He's just
- 2:28Speaker 5: he's just going full into uber douche business owner.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Yeah, like none of my opinions matter.
- 2:34Speaker 3: It feels like, all right, Ashen, thanks for calling in,
- 2:39Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 2:39Speaker 8: Speaking of small business, I gotta tell you something happened
- 2:41Speaker 8: the other day. I hate when people knock on my door.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Hate it.
- 2:45Speaker 8: And I hate when it's always people soliciting for something,
- 2:47Speaker 8: you know, because I have all these dogs, they bark
- 2:49Speaker 8: as cass and I gotta lure the dogs to the
- 2:52Speaker 8: front door and then run to the side door to
- 2:53Speaker 8: get out so they don't come out. And I go
- 2:55Speaker 8: out and there's this kid at the front door. And
- 2:58Speaker 8: I can't tell you if he's doing that pitch he
- 2:59Speaker 8: ever get those pitch the people that pitch you on
- 3:01Speaker 8: the candies or the books. And they're from a rough
- 3:04Speaker 8: neighborhood or whatever. So this guy, this guy, tall, good
- 3:08Speaker 8: looking blonde kid, his spiel. I couldn't tell if I
- 3:12Speaker 8: was being scammed up because he was so polite. And
- 3:15Speaker 8: he blew my socks off. And I was quizzing him
- 3:17Speaker 8: because he said, I live in your neighborhood.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I'm doing whatever.
- 3:20Speaker 8: I'm like, dude, you really lose. I started quizing about people,
- 3:22Speaker 8: and he was really good. And what's funny about this
- 3:24Speaker 8: kid is a couple months ago, I was driving down
- 3:27Speaker 8: the street and I saw a car, a truck, not
- 3:30Speaker 8: a cyber truck, and it was like a barbecue cleaning company,
- 3:34Speaker 8: right clean your barbecue. And I said to my wife,
- 3:36Speaker 8: I go hey, I saw that, and I like local businesses.
- 3:38Speaker 8: I said my wife, I go hey, I saw this
- 3:41Speaker 8: grill cleaning company. I should call him. I took a
- 3:43Speaker 8: picture of it and get them to clean our grill.
- 3:45Speaker 8: And she goes, oh, I already have the whatever barbecue
- 3:48Speaker 8: doctor coming to clean our grill. And I was like, oh, okay,
- 3:51Speaker 8: and the barbecue guy that we've used him for twenty
- 3:53Speaker 8: years whatever. This kid is starting his new business and
- 3:57Speaker 8: it's called Grimy Grill and that's what he does. He
- 4:00Speaker 8: comes and spends three or four hours and clean your
- 4:02Speaker 8: girl and his I want to get him on the air.
- 4:04Speaker 8: His spiel was so good and he was so polite,
- 4:07Speaker 8: so I said to him, I go done deal, you
- 4:09Speaker 8: got it.
- 4:09Speaker 1: You clean my So he cleaned my grill yesterday.
- 4:11Speaker 6: Nice.
- 4:12Speaker 8: It looks fantastic, And I'm so like, this makes any sense.
- 4:15Speaker 8: I'm so proud of him. He's like a student at GCU.
- 4:18Speaker 8: He's gonna And what's funny is like after he was done,
- 4:21Speaker 8: I went back to I went home and looked at
- 4:23Speaker 8: the grill and they put a little like a he
- 4:24Speaker 8: was like a clothing tag, like a brand of a
- 4:26Speaker 8: clothing tag was around the part of the grill and
- 4:28Speaker 8: it says something. It said. It all printed up all nice,
- 4:31Speaker 8: and it said thanks for choosing grimy girls. But when
- 4:35Speaker 8: they printed it, they spilled choosing wrong, so it was
- 4:36Speaker 8: thanks for choosing and they crossed it out and wrote
- 4:39Speaker 8: choosing like. I was like, I mean, you know what
- 4:43Speaker 8: guaranteed human like? I thought, they was so fantastic And
- 4:46Speaker 8: I love the job that he did. And I don't
- 4:48Speaker 8: the guy, as far as I know, doesn't know what
- 4:50Speaker 8: I do for Livy. He hit my dentist later and
- 4:53Speaker 8: my dentist called me up. Go you've seen this kid
- 4:54Speaker 8: just go around try and so I hired him. I
- 4:57Speaker 8: think he's great.
- 4:58Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, you appreciate the hustle.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Yeah, the kid, and you know what, I'm gonna get
- 5:03Speaker 1: his number. Would call him. He has no it'd be
- 5:05Speaker 1: so cool when you hear life changing. Let's give him
- 5:08Speaker 1: some advertising.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:09Speaker 6: Do you have that no soliciting signs like on your front?
- 5:12Speaker 4: No?
- 5:13Speaker 1: I hate those.
- 5:13Speaker 9: I was just wondering because my memo was just telling
- 5:16Speaker 9: me the other day how when she was younger, her
- 5:18Speaker 9: and her siblings used to go door to door to door,
- 5:20Speaker 9: but the house is that they would always hit was
- 5:22Speaker 9: the people that had the no soliciting ones because she
- 5:24Speaker 9: always felt like those are the people that could never
- 5:26Speaker 9: say no.
- 5:27Speaker 6: So I was just wondering. It's interesting because you started
- 5:31Speaker 6: by saying you hate.
- 5:31Speaker 8: When people I do, but I also I hate it.
- 5:35Speaker 8: But I also don't want to sign in front of
- 5:38Speaker 8: my house. It's ugly that says no soliciting.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 5:40Speaker 8: It's like when people put signs in their grass don't
- 5:42Speaker 8: let your dog poop here. I'm like, that's root in
- 5:45Speaker 8: your yard, but that's sign Like I don't want that
- 5:46Speaker 8: sign there. I'd rather hopefully there's a chance that people
- 5:50Speaker 8: don't just know not to do.
- 5:52Speaker 7: The street has signs all over their their yard and
- 5:56Speaker 7: this said, they look like almost like little graveyard. Thanks,
- 6:00Speaker 7: and they say here lies the last dog that.
- 6:02Speaker 6: Bleeped in our yard, like they used a bad word.
- 6:06Speaker 1: And my kids are like, how come he has those signs?
- 6:09Speaker 2: Up?
- 6:10Speaker 1: Is it the one neighbor that you always had show?
- 6:12Speaker 6: No, Actually, we really like this neighbor.
- 6:13Speaker 7: So I'm like, yeah, he probably just just wants people
- 6:16Speaker 7: to stop pooping.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Dogs to stop pooping.
- 6:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I guess yeah, I would see dogs.
- 6:22Speaker 7: He doesn't want anybody pooping in his yard.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Okay, I think that's fair. All right, So I'm gonna
- 6:27Speaker 1: get this guy's number and we'll call him on the
- 6:28Speaker 1: air just a little bit. All right, It's John Jay
- 6:30Speaker 1: and Rich.

- 7:56Speaker 8: Okay, So you came to my house knocking on my door,
- 8:00Speaker 8: and I was very irritated.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Do you remember that? Does I get you a clue
- 8:05Speaker 1: of all the because you said, well, A lot of
- 8:08Speaker 1: a lot.
- 8:08Speaker 10: Of people get a little irritated when I knock on
- 8:10Speaker 10: their door. But I I think I meant, I think

- 8:19Speaker 10: get your name.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Well, last name is Van s. And you came to
- 8:23Speaker 1: my door.
- 8:23Speaker 10: Oh, yes, sir, yes, Oh of course I remember you. You
- 8:25Speaker 10: were you were irritated at all.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Well, you couldn't tell I was very irritated, but you were,
- 8:32Speaker 1: but you came.
- 8:33Speaker 8: You were so so you came knocking on my door
- 8:35Speaker 8: and you were pitching your business, grimy grills right, And
- 8:39Speaker 8: I was so impressed.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You see how plight he is.
- 8:41Speaker 8: I was so impressed with you and your sales pitch
- 8:44Speaker 8: that I immediately brought my wife out and I said, hey,
- 8:47Speaker 8: let's do this. Let's have this guy clean our girl.
- 8:49Speaker 8: Do you remember that? Yes, okay, well I do remember it.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Well.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I do a radio show.
- 8:54Speaker 8: The name of the show is called John Jay and
- 8:56Speaker 8: Rich and and you came and your people did my
- 9:00Speaker 8: grill yesterday.
- 9:01Speaker 1: It wasn't you.
- 9:01Speaker 8: It was somebody else that did my grill yesterday. And
- 9:04Speaker 8: I think it looks absolutely fantastic. I think you guys
- 9:07Speaker 8: did a great job. And I know you're a new company,
- 9:09Speaker 8: and I thought maybe I could give you a little
- 9:11Speaker 8: bit of advertising, and but maybe you wanted to sell
- 9:13Speaker 8: yourself to everybody. And also, while my co workers here
- 9:16Speaker 8: to hear yourself because I was telling them about you
- 9:19Speaker 8: and how polite you were.
- 9:20Speaker 10: Well, I really appreciate that. Yeah, that goes such a
- 9:22Speaker 10: long way. Yeah, I could talk on.
- 9:25Speaker 1: The business right now, right now. I'm talking about right now,
- 9:28Speaker 1: right on.
- 9:28Speaker 10: So my name is Ian. I'm twenty one years old.
- 9:31Speaker 10: I go to Grand Canyon University here in Phoenix, and
- 9:35Speaker 10: I started a business cleaning barbecue grills. Kind of a
- 9:38Speaker 10: random business, but I heard about it through a family
- 9:41Speaker 10: friend when he was going to purchase a grill cleaning
- 9:44Speaker 10: business and he was gonna have me run it for
- 9:46Speaker 10: him a few years ago, but ended up backing out
- 9:48Speaker 10: of the sale. So I heard about the business then
- 9:50Speaker 10: and I thought that it was really awesome opportunity and
- 9:53Speaker 10: I love serving people through business, so I just decided
- 9:56Speaker 10: to go ahead and start it myself. So now we
- 10:00Speaker 10: work on mostly built in luxury grills and we do
- 10:05Speaker 10: good work. So it takes about three hours to get
- 10:08Speaker 10: a job done, but we love it and a lot
- 10:10Speaker 10: of people need it done. What a lot of people
- 10:12Speaker 10: don't know is the health risk of having a dirty grill,
- 10:15Speaker 10: and that's mainly what we specialize in, is getting a
- 10:18Speaker 10: deep clean on everything underneath. The burners, everything within the
- 10:21Speaker 10: grill that really homeowners don't want to touch. So take
- 10:24Speaker 10: this quite a bit. But our website's Grimygrills dot com
- 10:28Speaker 10: and feel free to check out our Instagram. We've got
- 10:30Speaker 10: a lot of content, a lot of homes that we've cleaned.
- 10:34Speaker 10: I believe we're over fifty grills just over the past
- 10:37Speaker 10: second half.
- 10:37Speaker 7: We've done, right, you know, I'm actually on your Instagram
- 10:40Speaker 7: right now, and there are some pretty impressive before and
- 10:42Speaker 7: now right.
- 10:43Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, mine was really and then yesterday the guy
- 10:46Speaker 8: that cleaned our grill, my wife took it.
- 10:48Speaker 1: His face is all covered in soot.
- 10:50Speaker 5: I bet he's like, oh, how often should a person
- 10:53Speaker 5: get there grill clean?
- 10:54Speaker 10: Dean? Yeah, so sometimes it depends on how often you grill.
- 10:59Speaker 10: A lot of you we'll get it done every six months,
- 11:02Speaker 10: some people every year. Some people want it done more
- 11:04Speaker 10: frequently too, Like I have a client who wants is
- 11:07Speaker 10: coming out every four months or so to keep their
- 11:10Speaker 10: drilling good condition. The thing is, these grills are really nice.
- 11:12Speaker 10: They're investments. A lot of people move into a nice home,
- 11:15Speaker 10: they don't know how much their grills worth. Some of
- 11:17Speaker 10: these grills are over fifty thousand dollars.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Are you kid?
- 11:23Speaker 8: What about just a weber? Well, listen, I thought you
- 11:27Speaker 8: did great. I was very impressed with you and your
- 11:29Speaker 8: parents should be very proud and GCU should be proud.
- 11:32Speaker 8: So is I know you gave the website?
- 11:34Speaker 1: Is there?
- 11:34Speaker 8: Should we give out a phone number or just the
- 11:35Speaker 8: website grimmy grills dot com?
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 11:37Speaker 10: Absolutely, yeap. A good phone number for US is four
- 11:42Speaker 10: eight zero two six nine six seven four fives. That's
- 11:47Speaker 10: for a zero two six nine six seven four five.
- 11:51Speaker 1: All right, man, Well, good luck to you right on.
- 11:54Speaker 10: Well, hey, I really appreciate all of you guys. Yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 10: thank you for taking the time. And yeah, mister van
- 11:59Speaker 10: S that was it was great to meet you. You were
- 12:00Speaker 10: so encouraging to me as an entrepreneur hoping to grow,
- 12:04Speaker 10: and you had some great advice for me as well.
- 12:06Speaker 10: So I appreciate that. Not a lot of people take
- 12:08Speaker 10: the time when I knock on their door, but you did.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Really, I give you advice. I gave you. I gave
- 12:12Speaker 1: you advice. I'm glad I did. Yeah, it was great advice.
- 12:15Speaker 6: What advice did he give you?
- 12:16Speaker 9: Ian?
- 12:17Speaker 10: He encouraged me as an entrepreneur. He's like, keep going,
- 12:20Speaker 10: he asked me how how many doors I had knocked
- 12:22Speaker 10: that day, and I think by the time I got
- 12:24Speaker 10: to your door, I'd knocked about fifty or sixty. And
- 12:27Speaker 10: you were impressed to man to keep going, so I did.
- 12:33Speaker 6: Went a long way, John Jays.
- 12:34Speaker 8: So now hopefully we can blow up your business right
- 12:36Speaker 8: now and you can remember us, and then you could
- 12:37Speaker 8: ignore us five years from now when you sell the
- 12:39Speaker 8: company for.
- 12:39Speaker 1: One hundred million, he's going to be Ian's going to
- 12:41Speaker 1: be successful when you start your podcast.
- 12:43Speaker 8: And what happened, yeah, being good luck to you man, congratulations.
- 12:49Speaker 10: Hey, thanks so much. Take care guys.
- 12:51Speaker 8: Gray, girls like nice to right, call a guy, call
- 12:56Speaker 8: a guy, and get your girl cleaned. I hope I
- 12:58Speaker 8: didn't ask him this, but I hope they travel everywhere,
- 13:00Speaker 8: still blowing them up from wherever you live.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Night There
