- 1:06Welcome to 70x80, the section of 7080 .it dedicated
- 1:10to the deepening of the topics discussed in the
- 1:13articles of the portal. We are with the director
- 1:15Massimo Lualdi who introduces today's topic.
- 1:18What are we talking about today? About war. In
- 1:201974, on all the newspapers of the world appeared
- 1:23the news of the 19th Japanese soldier, hidden
- 1:27in the jungle for decades, in the conviction
- 1:29that the Second World War was still in progress.
- 1:32His name was Teruo Nakamura, he was born in Taiwan
- 1:35in 1919, but he had Japanese origins, noble parents,
- 1:39and in fact for the empire he had fought in the
- 1:42Second World War until 1974, despite the conflict
- 1:46being terrible. ended in 45. Nakamura would have
- 1:49been the last of the so -called ghost Japanese
- 1:53soldiers of the Second World War. Arruolatosi
- 1:55in November 1943 among the volunteers of Takasako,
- 2:00a division composed of Taiwanese aborigines of
- 2:02the Japanese Imperial Army, Nakamura resided
- 2:06in a hotel in Indonesia shortly before the archipelago
- 2:09was invaded by the Allies in September 1944 after
- 2:13the Battle of Morotai. The soldier was declared
- 2:17dead in 1955, while in reality, after the conquest
- 2:21of the island, he had lived with others scattered
- 2:24until the 1950s, leaving them, however, periodically
- 2:27for long periods. In 1956, more than ten years
- 2:31after the end of the Second World War, Nakamura
- 2:33had left for the last time his garrison of subjects
- 2:37on the island and had left to build a small camp
- 2:40on his own. His fort consisted of a small hut
- 2:43inside a recinted field with barbed wire. The
- 2:46discovery of the Nakamura soldier's refuge was
- 2:48completely random. A pilot, in the summer of
- 2:511974, was flying around the area and, seeing
- 2:55the strange hut recinted with a military style,
- 2:58sensed that it could be a ghost soldier. At the
- 3:01time, not many had been found. So, informed by
- 3:04the Japanese embassy in Indonesia, assistance
- 3:06from the Indonesian government was required to
- 3:09organize a research mission, which was conducted
- 3:11by an important Asian airline and conducted the
- 3:14arrest of Nakamura. by the Indonesian soldiers
- 3:17on December 18, 1974. The soldier was then transferred
- 3:21to Jakarta, where he was recovered, while the
- 3:24news of his return reached Japan only nine days
- 3:27later. Many of the socio -economic and political
- 3:32clashes between Taiwan and Japan on those who
- 3:34had to pay Nakamura the due pension for the repatriation
- 3:38of the military were many. Thank you to the director
- 4:05of 7080 .it Massimo Lualdi for having dealt with
- 4:09the daily topic. See you at the next edition
- 4:12of 7080. Hey, it's Cole Swindell. After I give
