- 0:09Speaker 3: The World's a vaginal podcast. Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. Yeah, no,
- 0:20Speaker 3: it was. It was a jail break up. The a
- 0:22Speaker 3: gaps like that, having.
- 0:23Speaker 4: Probably more geared to Evan, because I know you watched
- 0:25Speaker 4: the film, Mike, I did grind it again yesterday? Did
- 0:28Speaker 4: you grind it again? I'll open it to you. Good
- 0:32Speaker 4: for you.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Now, did you get announced when you walked into the arena?
- 0:34Speaker 1: No bill back Champion Mike dassaults.
- 0:38Speaker 4: The thing that you've been most impressed about with Brissette
- 0:40Speaker 4: through the Five Gays, toughness, right, So that's perfect. Finally
- 0:43Speaker 4: I asked her question and he got it right.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I always get scared when you asked me a question like
- 0:48Speaker 1: what road are you trying to.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Walk me down?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Paul, I'm not going to Mount.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Cooks with you bring high comedy generally, Paul. You know,
- 0:53Speaker 4: like when you insist that Christian Ellis didn't interfere with
- 0:56Speaker 4: that guy.
- 0:56Speaker 3: I thought the ball was whizzing by. I thought it
- 0:58Speaker 3: was well timed.
- 0:59Speaker 4: It's it's like eight yards.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I mean, he didn't have to tackle.
- 1:04Speaker 4: But this is Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 1:06Speaker 5: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota
- 1:10Speaker 5: dot com.
- 1:13Speaker 3: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:17Speaker 3: at Gillette Stadium, and never a dull moment.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Hupaul to busy Wednesday.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Busy Wednesday. Uh, we're gonna talk all about it. Of course.
- 1:27Speaker 3: The main headline is Evan's not here. No, I'm only kidding.
- 1:31Speaker 3: The main headline is Drake may Era has begun.
- 1:35Speaker 4: I'm gonna bow to you, mister Curtis.
- 1:37Speaker 3: He listen to Blind Squirrel, Blind Squarel finds a nut
- 1:41Speaker 3: every Sunday postgame.
- 1:43Speaker 4: And then yesterday for PU you were on this. You
- 1:46Speaker 4: thought that all the signs were coming. Obviously we all
- 1:49Speaker 4: knew it was coming sooner or later, but you nailed
- 1:51Speaker 4: when it was coming. I thought it would be another week.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah, well listen, I thought it was gonna be week one,
- 1:56Speaker 3: So I'm off by six weeks.
- 1:57Speaker 4: I was hoping for a week.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know, listen, I'm excited, anxious, nervous. I
- 2:05Speaker 3: can only imagine how he must feel. I can only
- 2:08Speaker 3: imagine how the coaches must feel.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Uh, how you can't feel excitement at least. I mean,
- 2:13Speaker 4: I don't know about nervous or anything like that. But
- 2:17Speaker 4: you took a guy third. Overall, you're gonna get a
- 2:20Speaker 4: chance to watch him play for the first time. That's exciting.
- 2:22Speaker 3: No, it is exciting, But like I said, there is
- 2:24Speaker 3: there is some to me, some anxiousness and nervousness to it.
- 2:28Speaker 3: You don't know how he's gonna play, you don't know
- 2:30Speaker 3: how the line's gonna perform, you know. So there's a
- 2:32Speaker 3: lot of unknowns here. But I think it's the right time. Like,
- 2:38Speaker 3: you know, if I thought week one was the right time,
- 2:40Speaker 3: then I certainly think this is the right time. I
- 2:43Speaker 3: know that everybody's out there, Oh, how can they do this?
- 2:46Speaker 3: It's a Texans and blah blah blah.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Talking with Mike about it, It's like for about two
- 2:51Speaker 4: at least two or three weeks, it's been like what
- 2:54Speaker 4: are they waiting for? Like, you know, let's go Finally
- 2:57Speaker 4: he's gonna he's gonna play, not now, and then he
- 3:00Speaker 4: gets named the starter. Everybody's like, what are they doing?
- 3:03Speaker 3: I thought they had a plan? Well, and that's what
- 3:05Speaker 3: you bring up the plan, you know, could the plan
- 3:08Speaker 3: have simply been we're gonna you know, develop as much
- 3:12Speaker 3: we can. When we think he's ready, we're going to
- 3:15Speaker 3: put him in and maybe, you know, then the plan
- 3:19Speaker 3: hits the fact that this offense just looks abysmal, and
- 3:23Speaker 3: Gerard finally said after the Dolphins game, I mean, I've
- 3:27Speaker 3: seen enough. Put him in. I mean it could be
- 3:30Speaker 3: that simple. Everyone's looking for all this nefarious stuff like
- 3:34Speaker 3: you know, oh marketing called down and said we have
- 3:37Speaker 3: to sell more, you know, like it's it's like like
- 3:40Speaker 3: it could be just simply they were waiting for when
- 3:43Speaker 3: he's ready, you know, and Gerard finally had seen enough
- 3:48Speaker 3: and just said, okay, let's put him in. This offense
- 3:51Speaker 3: is abysmal. It can't be any worse the.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Offense.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Let's just get him in.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I mean, what makes sense when you go in. I
- 4:01Speaker 1: mean that's like, are you going to say, well, we're
- 4:03Speaker 1: going to start in week six? Like we all know
- 4:05Speaker 1: how quickly this league changes, and right, you know, I
- 4:07Speaker 1: think we said it before the season started, where it
- 4:09Speaker 1: was like, all right, everything's great right now, like we
- 4:11Speaker 1: girawed Ellie, Well, no one's had any kind of tough
- 4:14Speaker 1: times or controversies or anything. This was all the fresh
- 4:16Speaker 1: new staff, and you know, all of a sudden, here
- 4:18Speaker 1: we are five weeks later, and you know, one of
- 4:21Speaker 1: the questions in the press commerce we just came from
- 4:23Speaker 1: with Gerar was like, you know, was this the plan.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I'm like, well, I would assume that the plan was
- 4:27Speaker 1: to be a little flexible, like we're doing.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Whatever the plan was, it had to be open ended. Yeah,
- 4:34Speaker 3: let's look at the other side. What if the Patriots
- 4:36Speaker 3: were six and oh now or five and oh yeah,
- 4:38Speaker 3: and Jacoby Brissette, that's.
- 4:39Speaker 1: The plan I gotta put them in right now.
- 4:41Speaker 3: The plan, the plan has to be flexible.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I mean, I love the fred optimism. They've played five games.
- 4:46Speaker 4: What if they were.
- 4:48Speaker 3: But like, you get my point absolutely. You know, I
- 4:52Speaker 3: was talking to somebody today. You're you're building a house
- 4:54Speaker 3: and or renovating your house, and you have a plan
- 4:56Speaker 3: for when it's going to be finished, and you tear
- 4:58Speaker 3: down a wall there's asbestos. Well, all of a sudden,
- 5:01Speaker 3: the plan has changed. Right now, I'm in you know,
- 5:04Speaker 3: like that turned to a darkness, right, Like you know
- 5:06Speaker 3: what I'm saying, Like, of course it has to be
- 5:08Speaker 3: open end. You're talking about human beings, not chess pieces.
- 5:12Speaker 4: And I think you know, like and a lot of these.
- 5:15Speaker 3: You know Bobo's out there who thinks that you know,
- 5:18Speaker 3: they're general managers? Uh, you know which if they were
- 5:21Speaker 3: so good at it, I don't know why they're doing
- 5:23Speaker 3: what they're doing the media and they're not they're making
- 5:26Speaker 3: the money being a general manager. Like you're dealing with humans,
- 5:31Speaker 3: you're not dealing with chess. Piece.
- 5:33Speaker 4: I agree, and I think it's really as simple. And
- 5:36Speaker 4: there's a couple of things that we said yesterday and
- 5:38Speaker 4: I still agree with. But like it, to me, this
- 5:40Speaker 4: was all about when Drake May was ready, so like
- 5:43Speaker 4: short of being five and zero or something like that,
- 5:47Speaker 4: it doesn't really matter what, you know, the fact that
- 5:49Speaker 4: the offense was bad to me doesn't really accelerated in
- 5:52Speaker 4: my mind. And only they know the answer to that,
- 5:54Speaker 4: the true, honest answer. Drod Mayo, Alex van Pelt, all
- 5:58Speaker 4: the offensive staff that Mao said he met with, they
- 6:01Speaker 4: were all on board. Elliott Wolf. They're the only ones
- 6:04Speaker 4: that know, honest, honestly, how they feel. I feel like
- 6:08Speaker 4: they feel that May is ready and even if the.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Office like he's ready enough.
- 6:13Speaker 4: I heard a lot of people and including Zoe on
- 6:15Speaker 4: the on the call went before the polk touchdown go
- 6:18Speaker 4: to overturned Perssette may have just saved his job. I
- 6:21Speaker 4: don't think so. I don't think so. Like if that's
- 6:24Speaker 4: a touchdown and they were this close to making the move,
- 6:27Speaker 4: I think the move would have been made anyway.
- 6:28Speaker 3: I do too.
- 6:29Speaker 4: I do too, And you know ready I can tell
- 6:35Speaker 4: you no, no, you and you point that out.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I think now that we have this eye line, you
- 6:38Speaker 1: sometimes catch me. But no, I just think the sustainability
- 6:42Speaker 1: thing from last week, when Mayo said.
- 6:43Speaker 4: That Fred was all over it, that was Fred's Fred
- 6:46Speaker 4: took that out of the press conference. I gave him
- 6:47Speaker 4: credit for that. Last week. He thought I was mocking him,
- 6:50Speaker 4: and I really wasn't. I've used it several times since
- 6:52Speaker 4: to to sort of indicate this I think was coming.
- 6:57Speaker 4: And then Fred was even stronger in the postgame show Sunday.
- 7:00Speaker 4: I gave him a little bow because he nailed it.
- 7:02Speaker 4: On Sunday. He said he said this was the week
- 7:04Speaker 4: it was going to happen. And I did the one
- 7:06Speaker 4: thing that I keep pushing back on and I keep
- 7:10Speaker 4: saying the same thing. You want to be patient, that's fine.
- 7:13Speaker 4: You want to start him week one, that's fine. The
- 7:16Speaker 4: only thing I completely rejected as out of hand is
- 7:21Speaker 4: you can't play him against this defense? Yeah, or that defense?
- 7:24Speaker 4: Or why didn't they play against my Like.
- 7:26Speaker 3: The weather's not going to be good that weekend. We
- 7:27Speaker 3: can't do that week Why is it? You know?
- 7:29Speaker 4: First of all, the NFL is hard, yeah, right, so
- 7:32Speaker 4: the so there's there's tough there's tough games, you know,
- 7:34Speaker 4: And I understand Miami's defense in Jacksonville's defense, neither one
- 7:38Speaker 4: of them is what you would consider a great defense.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Houston's is it's pretty it's pretty good. I don't know
- 7:42Speaker 4: if it's great. It's pretty good, right, So what are
- 7:46Speaker 4: we gonna do, just like pick and choose? Well, this
- 7:48Speaker 4: team's not any this isn't college. We can't play him
- 7:50Speaker 4: on homecoming against the one double A team. We don't
- 7:53Speaker 4: have that luxury, right, So to me, it's when you
- 7:55Speaker 4: think he's ready, you play him. Like, So, if he
- 7:58Speaker 4: had beaten Miami me last week, and then things didn't
- 8:03Speaker 4: go well against Houston because Houston's a better team this week,
- 8:06Speaker 4: would you feel better or worse? I feel I feel
- 8:10Speaker 4: exactly the same.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Well, I'd feel better that they had started the process
- 8:13Speaker 3: a week early. Oh, okay, all right.
- 8:15Speaker 4: I mean just in terms of his performance, Like let's
- 8:17Speaker 4: let's just say for argument's sake, he beat Miami, lost
- 8:20Speaker 4: to Houston, and now they're gonna do it this way
- 8:22Speaker 4: and they're gonna lose to Houston and beat Jacksonville. Like
- 8:25Speaker 4: just hypothetically, what's the difference?
- 8:28Speaker 1: Right?
- 8:28Speaker 4: Who cares? Like his first game didn't go so well, So,
- 8:31Speaker 4: oh my god, this guy is falling. Right, That's the
- 8:33Speaker 4: only part of this the criticism, I don't understand.
- 8:36Speaker 3: If you and if you're worried about him, like you know,
- 8:38Speaker 3: getting you know, extreme pressure from Houston, it would happen
- 8:43Speaker 3: whether you if you start him in Miami, He's gonna
- 8:46Speaker 3: still get extreme pressure in Houston.
- 8:48Speaker 6: You know.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Like that's my point. Nothing changes, nothing changes. Oh, he'd
- 8:52Speaker 4: be better because it would.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Be Listen, we can say he's as ready as he
- 8:58Speaker 3: can be, but probably and I don't even the number
- 9:02Speaker 3: is above fifty percent of things he's not going to
- 9:06Speaker 3: be ready for until he sees them the first some.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Of the things he said too, We got a chance
- 9:10Speaker 4: to listen how you were there, and I'm curious to
- 9:12Speaker 4: get you, curious to get your thoughts on it. But
- 9:14Speaker 4: some of the comments he made about wanting to make sure,
- 9:18Speaker 4: you know, kept his feet, didn't escape the pocket, two
- 9:20Speaker 4: point on time, staying on time, not looking for off
- 9:24Speaker 4: platform stuff, just playing football and let that happen, if
- 9:26Speaker 4: it happens. But I think, you know, he's thinking about
- 9:29Speaker 4: the process, like making sure he's running the office here.
- 9:33Speaker 3: He's gonna look bad at times. I can guarantee it,
- 9:35Speaker 3: for sure, I can guarantee it. But like I said,
- 9:38Speaker 3: most of what he's going to see out there, he's
- 9:40Speaker 3: never experienced before at that speed, and it's going to
- 9:44Speaker 3: be the first time. But he's going to get it
- 9:46Speaker 3: under his belt and he's going to build on it.
- 9:48Speaker 3: And if he has a horrible game against the Texans,
- 9:52Speaker 3: then I hope they go back in the film room
- 9:53Speaker 3: and they look at it constructively and here's what you
- 9:56Speaker 3: could have done better, here's what you need to improve on,
- 9:59Speaker 3: and then we go to Jacksonville. And that's the process.
- 10:02Speaker 3: That's the process. It's not the end of the world
- 10:05Speaker 3: if he looks like if he looks terrible again in
- 10:07Speaker 3: this game.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Well, I was thinking back to you know, I mean,
- 10:10Speaker 1: I don't want to compare to Tom Brady, but Tom
- 10:11Speaker 1: Brady's first start was against the Colts, right and Peyton
- 10:14Speaker 1: Manning C. J. Stroud in the Texan's probably gonna be
- 10:17Speaker 1: around for a while. And if you want to be
- 10:18Speaker 1: an AFC team, and I'm not saying that, like, you know,
- 10:20Speaker 1: this is a proving ground kind of thing, but you're
- 10:23Speaker 1: getting him to face a team that down the road,
- 10:25Speaker 1: you'd love to say, this is a team you might
- 10:27Speaker 1: have to see in the playoffs. This is you know,
- 10:29Speaker 1: Demico Ryans, this defense that he's running right now, you're
- 10:31Speaker 1: gonna get a little taste of it right now. So
- 10:33Speaker 1: I think that's a little bit of get a little
- 10:35Speaker 1: applying too, like and I know it's a long ways
- 10:37Speaker 1: out and you're you know, projecting positively, but this is
- 10:39Speaker 1: a good team.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Isn't that the idea? Like to think, like, Okay, we
- 10:44Speaker 4: have a third overall pick. We want this guy to
- 10:46Speaker 4: be our franchise quarterback. It's not going to hurt him
- 10:49Speaker 4: to get some experience against a team that very well
- 10:52Speaker 4: could be a part of the AFC picture for the
- 10:55Speaker 4: next five years.
- 10:56Speaker 7: Yep.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Like what's wrong with that?
- 10:58Speaker 2: Right?
- 10:58Speaker 4: What's wrong?
- 10:59Speaker 3: What's wrong with it? And you know the whole thing
- 11:01Speaker 3: about you know, he gives us the best chance to win.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I don't even care about that. I know Gerard said
- 11:05Speaker 3: that and that's why he's in. And you know you
- 11:08Speaker 3: kind of have to say that because it's a meritocracy
- 11:10Speaker 3: and you know, you put the players in that gives
- 11:12Speaker 3: you the But like whether they win or lose, like
- 11:15Speaker 3: right now, to me, is irrelevant. It's how he plays
- 11:19Speaker 3: and how the team plays around him. That's what I'm
- 11:23Speaker 3: focused on. I'm not it'd be great if they win.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Like, you know what, we have all kinds of things
- 11:29Speaker 4: that we do content wise. We need a lipstick camera
- 11:32Speaker 4: on Fred Sunday. Fred's gonna ride the roller coaster on Sunday.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I'm gonna be a mess. I'm probably gonna be a mess.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I mean, i gotta be.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Like, my son's out there and I'm like watching him play.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I felt I felt similarly listening to him talk, and
- 11:45Speaker 1: you know, he came out and it's just like, oh God,
- 11:48Speaker 1: please let this be the guy. You know, Like that
- 11:50Speaker 1: was just the feeling of he's a good kid. You
- 11:52Speaker 1: can he commands the room. He's got a presence about him.
- 11:56Speaker 1: You know, he's just extremely likable. And you know, Jerrod
- 11:59Speaker 1: talked about all the f like telling he has and
- 12:01Speaker 1: I just think, I mean, we were pulling from act two,
- 12:03Speaker 1: like I was pulling from act two.
- 12:04Speaker 4: But about Jacoby Brissett, like you you watched him, he
- 12:09Speaker 4: is like and I call them kids because there's so
- 12:11Speaker 4: much younger than me. Like he's a good kid too,
- 12:13Speaker 4: Like you could tell there's a difference with some of
- 12:16Speaker 4: these guys. You can just tell, Like you there are
- 12:19Speaker 4: people Bersett may there are people you wanted to root for.
- 12:22Speaker 4: You could just you could just kind of feel it, right,
- 12:25Speaker 4: you know.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Their team guys, they they're they're nice guys. You know,
- 12:30Speaker 3: not so much. Well, the people got rubbed the wrong
- 12:32Speaker 3: way with him right from the start. I wasn't one
- 12:34Speaker 3: of them because I was looking through rose colored glasses.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I'll admit I wanted to only see the best in him.
- 12:41Speaker 3: But like people said right from the start, like he
- 12:43Speaker 3: was a little abrasive and a little bit you know.
- 12:45Speaker 4: Yeah, and that you know, that's not why you know,
- 12:49Speaker 4: if he played good quarterback, you know, like, right, I
- 12:53Speaker 4: don't like him, but recognize that he's a great quarterback. Yeah,
- 12:56Speaker 4: I mean, but if Jones panned out, I would.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I doubt Aaron Rodgers. I doubt Aaron Rodgers was like
- 13:01Speaker 3: that the first year he is with the Packers, sitting
- 13:03Speaker 3: on the bench with five you know, knowing.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Him, maybe he was I could do that.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Yeah, he was probably telling them, right, let me show
- 13:11Speaker 4: let me, let me show you.
- 13:12Speaker 3: What you So that's that's the big news today. You're
- 13:16Speaker 3: the news that broke today. Jabrill Peppers put on the
- 13:19Speaker 3: commissioner's exemp list.
- 13:21Speaker 4: So it's good, which is really good for the team
- 13:24Speaker 4: because now it just gives you some time. You know, yeah,
- 13:27Speaker 4: he can't he can't practice, he can't play.
- 13:29Speaker 3: It takes it out of your hands and now we'll
- 13:33Speaker 3: let the process take its course.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I thought you I mean, I give him credit for
- 13:37Speaker 1: coming out and leading with that.
- 13:38Speaker 4: I mean leading with that.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I mean, everybody's here really to talk about Drake Bay.
- 13:42Speaker 1: And you know, I think for Gerard to come out
- 13:43Speaker 1: strong against you know, domestic violence, I have daughters, all
- 13:46Speaker 1: those kind of things that he he led with, I
- 13:48Speaker 1: thought it sent a good message.
- 13:49Speaker 4: And he also said that he Peppers is not expected
- 13:53Speaker 4: to be in the building in the near I think
- 13:57Speaker 4: is the term he used was near term. Yeah, yeah, right,
- 14:01Speaker 4: I get that, right.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Your future, well.
- 14:02Speaker 3: We'll see, you know, this process. So so that's that's
- 14:06Speaker 3: behind this in terms of like how it affects the
- 14:08Speaker 3: team in the field. Obviously it's a negative. You've lost Dugger.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Now you've lost Peppers in this once.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Probably Dougger can do Maybe Dougger when Evan comes back
- 14:19Speaker 4: from practice, we'll see if Duggar or I was able
- 14:21Speaker 4: to do anything today.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's a loss on the field with Peppers,
- 14:25Speaker 1: but when with Mapu coming back, and you know last
- 14:28Speaker 1: week with del pattis getting a little bit of it.
- 14:29Speaker 3: I know, and you know, like Ale to make so
- 14:32Speaker 3: you can look at it that way, but it's the
- 14:33Speaker 3: domino effect. You know, the two best guys are out,
- 14:37Speaker 3: so yes, people need to step up, but they weren't
- 14:39Speaker 3: as good as those two guys, and so every time
- 14:42Speaker 3: somebody in front goes out, you get a little bit less.
- 14:45Speaker 1: And you got to get Dougger back, You got to
- 14:47Speaker 1: get Thugger backets. I mean, as much as I was
- 14:49Speaker 1: impressed with Mapu's workload, like he is the guy that
- 14:52Speaker 1: you need out there, so hopefully he's out there when
- 14:55Speaker 1: when Evan comes.
- 14:55Speaker 3: There with the lost you know, big test for Brian
- 14:58Speaker 3: Belichick to uh yeah, you know, get these guys coached
- 15:01Speaker 3: up and yeah.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Jalen Hawkins too. I mean, you know they have some
- 15:05Speaker 1: depth there. This is you know, as much as Peppers
- 15:08Speaker 1: was a captain and an impact player, you know, I
- 15:10Speaker 1: think that they at least have some pieces where it's
- 15:12Speaker 1: not Yeah, it went right to del Paddick, but had
- 15:14Speaker 1: to go right to the undrafted rookiees.
- 15:15Speaker 4: And I did think that was Hawkins' best game, you know.
- 15:18Speaker 4: I thought he made a number of sure tackles that
- 15:21Speaker 4: prevented big plays. Yeah, big hit, like he was kind
- 15:24Speaker 4: of like, you know, the safety, the last line of defense,
- 15:26Speaker 4: and he was sure tackle.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I think he was some of those run hust the
- 15:30Speaker 1: running back. Oh yeah, yeah, he came flying over hard
- 15:33Speaker 1: hard lick.
- 15:34Speaker 4: That wasn't one of the ones I was talking about because.
- 15:36Speaker 3: So the the was Paul Curse hit Houston a little bit.
- 15:43Speaker 4: We captains.
- 15:45Speaker 3: No, we got some news out there with wide receiver
- 15:48Speaker 3: isn't going to be playing with the hamstring.
- 15:50Speaker 4: Yeah, sixty seven yard touchdown and didn't play another play
- 15:53Speaker 4: in that game for Nigo Collins, So that's a plus. Yeah,
- 15:56Speaker 4: he's by far their their best receiver and he's been
- 16:01Speaker 4: probably one of the best five receivers in football so far. Yeah,
- 16:04Speaker 4: but like knocking on the door six hundred yards already.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, Stefan Diggs.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Yeah, Diggs has been a problem, but they're gonna need
- 16:12Speaker 4: something out of Tank Dell. He's getting quiet pointing right.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I've been reading a little bit that that they've been
- 16:17Speaker 1: I mean, I know we got hurt last year, but
- 16:18Speaker 1: that he hasn't really done much coming back off.
- 16:20Speaker 4: He only has thirteen catches so far.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Do you have anyone with thirteen catches?
- 16:24Speaker 4: All right, See, that's just what happened.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Sorry, no, no, no, what happens dark to dark to
- 16:31Speaker 1: So sorry, I'm in a good place, so I gotta admit, like,
- 16:33Speaker 1: just like just seeing Drake up there, I'm like, all right,
- 16:36Speaker 1: Like I feel a little refreshed after the last week
- 16:38Speaker 1: we've had. It's good to just turn the page. Something new,
- 16:41Speaker 1: something new to watch this weekend for the game. I'm excited.
- 16:44Speaker 1: My inlaws are going to go to their first NFL
- 16:45Speaker 1: game this weekend, so I'm.
- 16:46Speaker 4: My niece is going. She's got a big group of people.
- 16:48Speaker 4: I got twelve tickets for my niece and she gets
- 16:51Speaker 4: to see Drake May's debut.
- 16:52Speaker 1: So I thought about that too, this will make Paul
- 16:55Speaker 1: uh gafa. But Drake was like, oh, you know, the
- 16:57Speaker 1: throwback uniforms, the home crowd, best fans, and the cut
- 17:00Speaker 1: you know in the league. So he was saying all
- 17:02Speaker 1: the right things. Yeah, he's saying the right things. I
- 17:04Speaker 1: love it.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Yeah. Like I said, I'm gonna be.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Such a goofball. He's gotta be good.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Now, I mean to friend's point, like I kind of assume,
- 17:15Speaker 1: like this is what my impression is, that he's gonna
- 17:18Speaker 1: make two or three maybe one, but two or three
- 17:21Speaker 1: hopefully like whoa plays that maybe aren't even completed, but
- 17:24Speaker 1: he'll just huck.
- 17:25Speaker 4: It down the field.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Then there's gonna be probably five or six plays. You're like, Drake,
- 17:29Speaker 1: don't die, you know, like he's gonna get smoked because
- 17:32Speaker 1: he doesn't see something coming. Or but I'm just hoping
- 17:34Speaker 1: that we see a little bit of what he talked about,
- 17:37Speaker 1: playing on time, getting the ball out quick, understand, you know,
- 17:40Speaker 1: just seeing the process. Like we know he can throw
- 17:42Speaker 1: the ball down the field, you know, and we know
- 17:44Speaker 1: there's gonna be mistakes and things he misses, and de
- 17:47Speaker 1: Miko Ryans will take advantage of some things and confuse
- 17:49Speaker 1: him and put some new things that they haven't shown
- 17:51Speaker 1: on tape. But you know, is there enough plays? Are
- 17:54Speaker 1: there enough plays that you say he's playing on time's
- 17:57Speaker 1: he understands what they're trying to do, He's getting the
- 17:59Speaker 1: ball to the right guy at the right time. You know.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I just that's what I want to see out of him.
- 18:03Speaker 1: And I don't know that we will, like, I know,
- 18:05Speaker 1: we'll see probably a couple big throws, and you know,
- 18:07Speaker 1: we'll definitely see a couple like, oh crap, he just
- 18:09Speaker 1: got decked. But can he have those, you know, good
- 18:12Speaker 1: execution plays and complete some passes.
- 18:14Speaker 3: So we don't know what we'll see. Does Houston know
- 18:17Speaker 3: what they'll see? And I asked that because Devin mccordy
- 18:20Speaker 3: tweeted out yesterday, you know, why couldn't they wait? Why
- 18:24Speaker 3: do they have to tell the Texas? What do you
- 18:25Speaker 3: think about that?
- 18:26Speaker 1: I think it's the dumbest thing I heard yesterday. Honestly,
- 18:28Speaker 1: I have no offense to Devin because I didn't just
- 18:30Speaker 1: hear from Devon. There are a couple of people are like,
- 18:31Speaker 1: why didn't they wait? Well, for first of all, how
- 18:33Speaker 1: could they wait? Like everyone's gonna know, like they're gonna
- 18:36Speaker 1: go out there and see raps like then they have
- 18:37Speaker 1: to do all this other subster views and like, is
- 18:40Speaker 1: Houston really gonna be like, oh my god, it's Drake May.
- 18:43Speaker 1: What a rookie has never played a game? What are
- 18:44Speaker 1: we gonna do? Like, I don't think it's that big
- 18:46Speaker 1: of a switch going from you know, Jacob from a
- 18:48Speaker 1: defensive standpoint. If I'm Demico, Ryan's like, we're just gonna
- 18:51Speaker 1: do what we do. These guys can't really block. We're
- 18:53Speaker 1: gonna attack no matter who.
- 18:54Speaker 3: The quarterback is.
- 18:55Speaker 4: I'm sorry, it's no I know that. And I had
- 18:58Speaker 4: you know, a couple of people were like me today.
- 19:00Speaker 4: One in particular, was having some fun with me. He's like, oh,
- 19:03Speaker 4: just Devin. Not nobody's talking about either, And I'm like, no,
- 19:06Speaker 4: well can't we disagree like without it being like, you know,
- 19:09Speaker 4: one guy doesn't know what he's talking about and another guy,
- 19:12Speaker 4: you know is I just don't think it's really done
- 19:15Speaker 4: that way with quarterbacks. I think in general terms, quarterback,
- 19:19Speaker 4: when you make a quarter you know, like when and
- 19:21Speaker 4: I know this is Carolina, every's gonna say, well, that's
- 19:23Speaker 4: why they shuck. You know, Carolina didn't say, oh, I
- 19:27Speaker 4: don't know it could be Bryce Young this week or
- 19:29Speaker 4: Randy Dalton. No, they made him switch. Yeah, it's nice
- 19:32Speaker 4: you let everybody know.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not like you're, you know, starting a safety.
- 19:37Speaker 4: That's different.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Quarterback. You know you're gonna have to now devote the
- 19:41Speaker 3: entire week in practice to this guy. You got fifty
- 19:45Speaker 3: three guys, you got coaches, you got assistants. The news
- 19:48Speaker 3: is going to get out there. If I'm a coach,
- 19:50Speaker 3: I'd rather have the news come from me than from
- 19:54Speaker 3: somebody else and then have it all speculation all week.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Just just get it over with, you know.
- 20:00Speaker 4: And I just I think back Belichick was as secretive
- 20:03Speaker 4: about absolutely every element of his football team as you
- 20:06Speaker 4: could be, and he didn't do it that way either.
- 20:09Speaker 4: He generally announced his quarterback.
- 20:11Speaker 3: What's the most famous one? Super Bowl Week? He announced
- 20:15Speaker 3: Brady's gonna be the quarterback.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Yeah. He could have waited, he could have, But that one,
- 20:19Speaker 4: to me, was more for his team, Like there is
- 20:23Speaker 4: no there's no debate here.
- 20:24Speaker 3: It's Tom Well and that's what he's doing too. It's
- 20:26Speaker 3: for his No.
- 20:27Speaker 4: No, I agree, I'm agreeing with you, bro. Bro, We're
- 20:31Speaker 4: all on the same side.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Ye.
- 20:32Speaker 4: No, But I just think It's one thing to say
- 20:35Speaker 4: at the Super Bowl that Tom Brady's ankle is okay
- 20:38Speaker 4: and he's gonna play. He did it with Cam Newton.
- 20:40Speaker 4: Every week he said, no, Cam's the quarterback every week
- 20:43Speaker 4: because every week he was asked. In twenty twenty, the
- 20:46Speaker 4: offense was every bit as bad as it's been right now,
- 20:51Speaker 4: and every week, no, no, no, Cam's the quarterback. Cam's the
- 20:54Speaker 4: starting quarterback, right not Jared's did. It's going to be Cam?
- 20:57Speaker 4: He did it. That was Belichick, who wouldn't tell you anything,
- 21:01Speaker 4: you know, because for fear that it was given the
- 21:03Speaker 4: opponent an advantage.
- 21:04Speaker 3: And maybe one of our fans who knows. But I
- 21:06Speaker 3: don't know of a situation where you know, a team
- 21:10Speaker 3: went from you know, a a bench you know, a
- 21:15Speaker 3: backup to now their new starting quarterback or reverse, you know,
- 21:19Speaker 3: the established starting quarterback is now being benched and that
- 21:22Speaker 3: was a game day decision. Like Ben McAdoo, for example,
- 21:26Speaker 3: I think when he benched, he announced that.
- 21:30Speaker 4: And I'm sure that people can come up with an example.
- 21:32Speaker 4: That's why, like, yeah, I don't know. Maybe I always
- 21:34Speaker 4: use the words no one, you know, like absolutes and
- 21:38Speaker 4: someone always I don't mean that it's never happened in
- 21:41Speaker 4: the history of football. I'm sure it has and I
- 21:43Speaker 4: just don't remember it, but not not exactly the same example.
- 21:45Speaker 1: But Belichick told the story recently on one of his
- 21:48Speaker 1: shows about Terrell Owens in Super Bowl thirty nine, and
- 21:51Speaker 1: Bill talked about, I'm talking to my doctor on the
- 21:54Speaker 1: team and he's saying, like, there's no way this guy's
- 21:56Speaker 1: gonna be able to play, and then he said they
- 21:58Speaker 1: got out there and you guys remember what he did
- 21:59Speaker 1: in that game, And it was like Belichick said, we
- 22:01Speaker 1: had to redo our whole game plan like that, Like
- 22:03Speaker 1: that's an example, but it's not the quarterback, you know,
- 22:05Speaker 1: but an example of all of a sudden the guy
- 22:07Speaker 1: is that you weren't expecting a superstar.
- 22:09Speaker 4: But that's also a different thing. That's an injury. And
- 22:12Speaker 4: I like Bill was very secretive with injuries, and I
- 22:15Speaker 4: can you know, I didn't agree with it, but I
- 22:17Speaker 4: could completely understand that you're you're leaving the other team
- 22:21Speaker 4: more to prepare for, like you're only preparing for one quarterback.
- 22:25Speaker 4: You know, it's either gonna be Brissett or it's gonna
- 22:27Speaker 4: be May Like it's the offense is all you know.
- 22:31Speaker 4: It's not like, right, Lamar Jackson's playing on Sunday or
- 22:36Speaker 4: Tom Brady's playing, which is two entirely different, you know,
- 22:40Speaker 4: game plans, right, that's my You know, we all know
- 22:43Speaker 4: that May brings more athleticism to the table than Bresett.
- 22:46Speaker 4: But he's gonna run the same offense that you've seen
- 22:48Speaker 4: the five. Hopefully better, but he's gonna run the same offense.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Now, there was that game, uh, the Wildcat game against
- 22:56Speaker 3: Miami where Miami came in and threw a loop. You know,
- 22:59Speaker 3: they threw a curve ball to the Patriots. The Patriots
- 23:01Speaker 3: were not prepared with.
- 23:02Speaker 4: The game plan. Right that Pennington was the quarterback, Right,
- 23:06Speaker 4: that was a game plan.
- 23:07Speaker 1: You know, Sephanie was running out wide, and Ricky Williams
- 23:11Speaker 1: and what was Ronnie Brown?
- 23:13Speaker 4: Ronnie Brown had running all over. Ronnie Brown had five touchdowns,
- 23:16Speaker 4: four rushing touchdowns, and he threw one to death. Was unbelievable.
- 23:22Speaker 4: We were just completely stunned in the press.
- 23:24Speaker 3: It reminded me of that Alabama Vanderbilt game. They just
- 23:26Speaker 3: couldn't stop it.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Because and I remember correctly, Brady got his towards a
- 23:30Speaker 1: cl They went and beat the Jets the next week
- 23:32Speaker 1: and then they came back for that was that week three,
- 23:34Speaker 1: I think, and that was around I want to say
- 23:37Speaker 1: about that, It's about right. He kind of felt Miami
- 23:40Speaker 1: was brutally bad in the first games and the Patriots
- 23:42Speaker 1: couldn't like stop it.
- 23:43Speaker 4: They couldn't figure it out.
- 23:44Speaker 1: And they had such an experienced defense too.
- 23:47Speaker 3: It was so frustrating they would.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Have been able to get it. Like you must have
- 23:49Speaker 1: thought after that Jets game, like, no, Brady, like we're
- 23:52Speaker 1: still gonna be competitive, and then all of a sudden,
- 23:54Speaker 1: like the defense gets exposed like that.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Like that was like thirty eight to thirteen or something
- 23:58Speaker 4: like that. That game was not.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, I'm gonna have to leave early today.
- 24:03Speaker 3: I'm just warning everyone.
- 24:04Speaker 1: I'm just glad you're here to Startford. I was worried.
- 24:06Speaker 1: We got so much going on today.
- 24:08Speaker 4: I'm not sure I'm okay with you leaving early.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Well, I finally a big show.
- 24:11Speaker 4: It's a big day.
- 24:13Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to leave early.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Some people were calling for an emergency podcast last we.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Well, I told them the emergency podcast will be at
- 24:18Speaker 3: noon tomorrow.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Yeah, but now you'll leave it. I can't do it
- 24:22Speaker 4: without our fearless leaders.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Let's let's get to the listeners, and Evan will be
- 24:28Speaker 3: by at some point.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Right, he's in the locker right now that they're gonna Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 4: So usually the last half hour or so on Wednesdays,
- 24:37Speaker 4: we should.
- 24:37Speaker 3: By the way, Uh, Matt, did you get the new
- 24:40Speaker 3: song the locker?
- 24:43Speaker 8: Uh?
- 24:44Speaker 3: Back from practice? Locker room song?
- 24:47Speaker 4: You guys can hear me? Oh gee, we got a
- 24:49Speaker 4: new song.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Yeah, don't play it.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just teasing it. Okay, boy, I'm teasing it.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Okay, feedback now.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Okay, all right, let's go to the TPX outline. Chris
- 24:59Speaker 3: is and California.
- 25:00Speaker 9: What's up, Chris, Chris, Yes, hey, yes, this is Patriotson
- 25:10Speaker 9: filter Chris.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Okay, that's it for Chris.
- 25:13Speaker 7: Now.
- 25:13Speaker 3: I'm I mean like, you got to be ready, come on,
- 25:16Speaker 3: we could hear yeah, no, you got to be ready.
- 25:20Speaker 1: What I caught I of calling out Mike as a
- 25:22Speaker 1: subject on an email, and I feel like I may
- 25:24Speaker 1: want to maybe want to hear it. Maybe I don't.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Backup like that.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I know what's that calling out Mike? I just see
- 25:30Speaker 1: an email there with a title not down one down
- 25:33Speaker 1: to there you go, Tony. Tony's calling me out?
- 25:37Speaker 3: Want me to read it. He says. I emailed a
- 25:40Speaker 3: couple of weeks ago to say my expectations for the
- 25:43Speaker 3: season were low, but I did expect me to be
- 25:45Speaker 3: playing and learning. Mike responded, and I'm getting there, but
- 25:49Speaker 3: not until November, and Fred responded with things about playing
- 25:53Speaker 3: him early in money, which I don't understand. So my
- 25:56Speaker 3: question is, what has changed so much in the seven
- 25:58Speaker 3: days since I email held in to make such a
- 26:01Speaker 3: shift in Mike and Fred's views. Views haven't changed. I
- 26:07Speaker 3: wanted to play Week one.
- 26:08Speaker 4: I did too, but you thought he would play Week one.
- 26:11Speaker 1: That's what yeah, I think For me, it was the
- 26:14Speaker 1: last three games of the same exact watching the same
- 26:16Speaker 1: thing over and over again. And I mean, I said
- 26:18Speaker 1: November was when I would start to get the itch,
- 26:21Speaker 1: but the itch came early with watching those games like
- 26:23Speaker 1: unfold the way they did. It just didn't feel like
- 26:25Speaker 1: it was going to get better at that point, especially
- 26:28Speaker 1: with this last game.
- 26:28Speaker 3: I was like, well, and that's what I'm hoping happened,
- 26:30Speaker 3: is Girodd said, Listen, we're in mud here. It's just
- 26:34Speaker 3: not going to get better. He's ready enough. Put him in,
- 26:37Speaker 3: you know. I'm hoping that's how it went down.
- 26:40Speaker 4: I think that's quite reasonable.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Sounds about right.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Let's see everyone's emailing in about Drake May as as expected.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Guy writes in that's his name.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Guys, not just a guy.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Drake May is a talent. But my prediction May will
- 27:00Speaker 3: be sacked seven to eight times a game, if not more,
- 27:03Speaker 3: and will be seriously injured in the next five weeks.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Well Brissette wasn't anyway, Teams are gonna blitz him constantly.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Patriots are giving up ten to fifteen years of a
- 27:13Speaker 3: franchise quarterback for a couple more wins this year.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Okay, So why a lot of what he says. I
- 27:21Speaker 4: do expect May to get sacked more than Brissette was,
- 27:24Speaker 4: because I think young quarterbacks get sacked a lot. But
- 27:27Speaker 4: why is that sacrificing ten or fifteen years, like by
- 27:32Speaker 4: playing a couple of extra games, because like again, I
- 27:35Speaker 4: will get more down. This is one I want someone
- 27:37Speaker 4: to This is a project. And I know, like Boston,
- 27:39Speaker 4: you know the guy that on Twitter, Boston Sports Info,
- 27:43Speaker 4: who is phenomenal with this stuff. And I don't know
- 27:45Speaker 4: if he listens to our shows or not. I'd like
- 27:49Speaker 4: an example of a young quarterback who played who you
- 27:53Speaker 4: deemed played too soon, who suffered a career ending injury.
- 27:58Speaker 4: I'd like someone to give me that, Like I'm not
- 28:00Speaker 4: talking about like Anthony Richardson hurt himself and yeah, right back,
- 28:04Speaker 4: wasn't like a career ending injury, right, you know, and
- 28:09Speaker 4: the whole, like you guys know this, I'm a broken record,
- 28:13Speaker 4: like the whole like ruined, he got ruined, he played
- 28:15Speaker 4: too early, he got ruined. And you know there's there's
- 28:18Speaker 4: various guys that get thrown out there. So like Mac Jones,
- 28:21Speaker 4: let's keep it. It's close something that we're all familiar with. Right,
- 28:26Speaker 4: So Mac Jones played as a rookie in twenty twenty one,
- 28:29Speaker 4: and by twenty twenty four he was a Jacksonville Jaguar. Okay,
- 28:35Speaker 4: I think they did a lot of things to hurt him.
- 28:37Speaker 4: I'm not arguing that. But what did they do to
- 28:40Speaker 4: hurt him that involved playing him too early?
- 28:44Speaker 3: Right?
- 28:45Speaker 10: What?
- 28:45Speaker 7: Like?
- 28:46Speaker 4: What did you think that he was in twenty twenty one?
- 28:49Speaker 3: I think they stunted his growth in twenty one by
- 28:51Speaker 3: coddling him on the field.
- 28:52Speaker 4: But what do you think what do you think that
- 28:54Speaker 4: he like when he was playing in twenty one? I
- 28:57Speaker 4: think most Patriots fans would say, it's a pretty good year,
- 29:00Speaker 4: made the playoffs, won ten games. He you know, stood
- 29:03Speaker 4: firm in the pocket, played played, you know, not an
- 29:07Speaker 4: instrumental role in a lot of wins. But he was
- 29:10Speaker 4: okay as a rookie. People were saying they got the
- 29:13Speaker 4: best out of the fire, that rookie class. So it
- 29:17Speaker 4: all fell apart in year two. In year three for
- 29:20Speaker 4: a lot of reasons, Matt Patricia, you know, offensive line,
- 29:25Speaker 4: you know, strife with the head coach, we all know
- 29:27Speaker 4: all the things. But what specifically about playing him too
- 29:32Speaker 4: soon led to the downfall of mac Jones's Patriots career, right,
- 29:37Speaker 4: But yet that's that's gospel, yeah right. They played him
- 29:42Speaker 4: too soon, they ruined him when the best part about
- 29:46Speaker 4: him as a Patriot was that first part that was
- 29:49Speaker 4: the best we saw of mac Jones, was him playing
- 29:52Speaker 4: right away. Then the league adjusted to him and he
- 29:55Speaker 4: was no longer effective. Then they did some things that
- 29:58Speaker 4: didn't support him, and he was no longer unaffected.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I think that's what it's more cautionary tale for. It's
- 30:03Speaker 1: in year two, do you support the quarterback? You give him,
- 30:06Speaker 1: you know, those take to the next level kind of
- 30:08Speaker 1: pieces and give him, you know, not change his offense
- 30:10Speaker 1: up on him, trying to personally.
- 30:12Speaker 4: Think that he's not that good. But I'm gonna I'm
- 30:14Speaker 4: gonna make the argument for him and say he was
- 30:17Speaker 4: very good and he would have been very good for
- 30:19Speaker 4: years to come if they didn't screw him up. But
- 30:21Speaker 4: it had nothing to screw him up. Part had nothing
- 30:24Speaker 4: to do with playing too soon.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Right, That was the right, Right, that was the good part.
- 30:29Speaker 4: That's you know, like the whole like chicken little thing,
- 30:33Speaker 4: like you can't play him like Mike Lombardi. By the
- 30:35Speaker 4: way he's he's gotta getting worse and worse, and he's
- 30:40Speaker 4: getting worse and worse, like by the week. You'd be
- 30:43Speaker 4: crazy to play be crazy to play him like you
- 30:48Speaker 4: it'd be insane. I think he called it insane if
- 30:50Speaker 4: you play if you decided to put him in. This
- 30:52Speaker 4: was like four days ago, so and then he starts
- 30:56Speaker 4: rattling our teams, you know, like you got to have
- 30:58Speaker 4: an offensive line, you got to protect the you know,
- 31:00Speaker 4: why do you think Jared Goff is successful in Detroit?
- 31:05Speaker 4: And Okay, yeah, he's got a great offensive line. And
- 31:09Speaker 4: I do think Jared Goff is one of those guys
- 31:11Speaker 4: that as long as you protect him, he's gonna be
- 31:12Speaker 4: really good. You don't protect him, he can't do it. Yeah, Okay,
- 31:15Speaker 4: then he goes. Well, look what's happened into Cincinnati now
- 31:19Speaker 4: because they can't protect him. They should have taken as
- 31:21Speaker 4: good as great as Jamar Chase is. They should have
- 31:23Speaker 4: taken Penny Seol. They'd have a left tackle, Hall of
- 31:26Speaker 4: Fame left tackle. They might have a Hall of Fame.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Receiver, like thirty five points a game, thank you, Fred Kirsh.
- 31:31Speaker 4: Yeah, like they can't get they haven't been stopped the
- 31:34Speaker 4: last three weeks, right, the defense has gone to hell.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Everybody got healthy and now they're and they're all out.
- 31:41Speaker 4: The defense has gone to hell, and they can't win games.
- 31:44Speaker 4: But they lost forty one thirty eighth, right against a
- 31:47Speaker 4: good team. But this is like when these guys just
- 31:51Speaker 4: like they scream into the ether and people just buy
- 31:53Speaker 4: it like that has nothing to do with Cincinnati struggles.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Right now, Their offense is in gear, their defense has
- 32:01Speaker 4: fallen apart. Like, you can't play much better than Joe
- 32:05Speaker 4: Burrow's played the last three games and they one and
- 32:07Speaker 4: two win those three games. Yep, But you know, gotta
- 32:11Speaker 4: have an offensive line.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Well, Lombardi seems like he's taking every shot he can
- 32:15Speaker 1: at this.
- 32:15Speaker 4: Time, and then every time he's you know, I didn't
- 32:18Speaker 4: ever get into this.
- 32:19Speaker 1: They're fun, they're nice.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Yeah, they're nice, you know, and I know like they
- 32:22Speaker 4: want to blame all their problems on Belichick, but like
- 32:25Speaker 4: like these little asides in the middle of his rants,
- 32:27Speaker 4: please please at least with like like Bill right, if
- 32:32Speaker 4: Bill's bitter, I could understand it. Bill has accomplished so much,
- 32:37Speaker 4: Like I could understand if he's bitter and maybe you know,
- 32:40Speaker 4: like has a sardonic side that he's sort of enjoying,
- 32:44Speaker 4: you know, the shot and freuder like what's going on?
- 32:46Speaker 4: I could get that. But it's the guy that won
- 32:48Speaker 4: six titles for the Patriots. What has Mike Lombardi ever
- 32:51Speaker 4: done other than drive the the like the uber to
- 32:55Speaker 4: pick up these these great people at the airport, like please.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Ron and Conway, New Hampshire. I don't have to say
- 33:02Speaker 3: too much as it's me time now. I just wanted
- 33:05Speaker 3: to ask one weird question regarding the decision. Supposedly, Mayo
- 33:09Speaker 3: said in his presser that he was disappointed that the
- 33:12Speaker 3: story broke before he told the team my question is,
- 33:15Speaker 3: why the hell would Mayo have not told the team.
- 33:18Speaker 3: I mean, if Mayo and the staff knew, why didn't
- 33:20Speaker 3: they tell the team sooner. I had felt for months
- 33:22Speaker 3: since the end of camp that Mayo wanted to start
- 33:24Speaker 3: May but got resistance from AVP and Wolf, and that
- 33:27Speaker 3: it was a power struggle between them. Also, what the
- 33:30Speaker 3: hell is with Arlovsky? He's being such a wine ass
- 33:34Speaker 3: Orlofsky praises Williams and the other rookie quarterbacks, but now
- 33:38Speaker 3: it's such a problem with may I'd love to hear
- 33:40Speaker 3: your thoughts. Excited to see may So on the not
- 33:42Speaker 3: telling the team. You know, Wednesday I think was the
- 33:46Speaker 3: first time the team would all be in the buildings,
- 33:49Speaker 3: so I think he was waiting for that, and I
- 33:50Speaker 3: think it is is disappointing that it got leaked out,
- 33:53Speaker 3: and I don't know.
- 33:53Speaker 4: Who did it right. He could have talked to they're.
- 33:57Speaker 3: Not all in on Monday. Some are, but I don't
- 34:01Speaker 3: think they're all in, and there's certainly not all in
- 34:03Speaker 3: at the same time.
- 34:04Speaker 4: They're not in on Tuesday, like Tuesday play Tuesday, they're in.
- 34:07Speaker 4: He said that he spoke to u Brissett in May
- 34:10Speaker 4: on Tuesday right, and that's you know, then what did
- 34:14Speaker 4: he say, Like some of that was like supposition or
- 34:18Speaker 4: something like that.
- 34:19Speaker 1: I kind of I don't know, I miss some of
- 34:20Speaker 1: this because my recollection was like it was he was
- 34:24Speaker 1: okay with it just getting out, like he told the
- 34:26Speaker 1: guys that needed to get out, and the guys weren't
- 34:28Speaker 1: here yesterday and I don't know this morning.
- 34:30Speaker 4: Script. Yeah, he told the team this morning that he
- 34:33Speaker 4: said specifically, but he talked to May and Brissette Tuesday
- 34:37Speaker 4: and then it got out and then it got out.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Right, So it could have been anyone leaking it. It
- 34:42Speaker 3: could have been could be no, it could have been
- 34:45Speaker 3: Drake May telling a family member and a family member
- 34:48Speaker 3: telling somebody and then you know, like who knows how
- 34:51Speaker 3: it got out, but it's it is unfortunate to got out.
- 34:53Speaker 3: And that's you know, one of the one of the
- 34:55Speaker 3: tough things about being a head coach is dealing with
- 34:57Speaker 3: that kind of stuff.
- 34:58Speaker 4: And people have made a big deal because in training camp,
- 35:02Speaker 4: at the end of training camp after the Washington game,
- 35:06Speaker 4: Gerard was really adamant about telling the team before he
- 35:10Speaker 4: told the media. If you recall, yeah, so I think
- 35:13Speaker 4: that's why people saying well, why shift? But I don't
- 35:16Speaker 4: think this was the way Gerard wanted it to be. Yeah,
- 35:19Speaker 4: sort of emanated, disseminated, I should.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Say, yep, Brandon and Hickory North Carolina. Has there ever
- 35:25Speaker 3: been a team that, like five of the six elected
- 35:28Speaker 3: captains are no longer on the field.
- 35:30Speaker 4: Unreal.
- 35:30Speaker 3: This season has just been a train wreck from the start,
- 35:33Speaker 3: and it's nice to finally have something as a fan
- 35:36Speaker 3: to be excited for on Sunday. I'm pumped to get
- 35:38Speaker 3: to see Drake start, and I think it's a perfect matchup.
- 35:41Speaker 3: We will see how he handles the pressure of going
- 35:44Speaker 3: up against another young, really good quarterback. Also, I think
- 35:47Speaker 3: the receivers may have an extra burst of energy this
- 35:51Speaker 3: week for Drake Pat's twenty seven Texans twenty four. Drake
- 35:55Speaker 3: leads the team to a walk off touchdown drive, Go
- 35:58Speaker 3: Pats and loveless. If that happens, the shirt's coming off.
- 36:03Speaker 3: The shirt is coming off of that for one game,
- 36:05Speaker 3: For one game.
- 36:06Speaker 4: You think it's ridiculous that they could win Sunday that way.
- 36:10Speaker 3: That that's that's story, that's Hollywood, that's.
- 36:14Speaker 4: Hollywood, Like was it Hollywood that Brady? Well, I suppose
- 36:17Speaker 4: you could say it was like, you know that game
- 36:18Speaker 4: that Mike talked about, they won like forty one to thirteen.
- 36:21Speaker 1: I'll tell you what seems Hollywood is all the captains
- 36:23Speaker 1: dropping like flies. And that's and that already seems like
- 36:26Speaker 1: in a bad way.
- 36:27Speaker 4: It's amazing. Who's left?
- 36:31Speaker 1: Dietrich Wise wows man standing.
- 36:35Speaker 4: Imagine him like you're walking around, You're just like looking
- 36:37Speaker 4: around and see if ane's gonna fall on you at
- 36:39Speaker 4: any second.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Chris and Kentucky wants to know who's Drake going to
- 36:44Speaker 3: be most like Josh Allen, Herbert Mahones, Burrow or maybe
- 36:49Speaker 3: a Sam Darnold Baker Captain Kirk. Who do you think
- 36:51Speaker 3: he'll be most like?
- 36:54Speaker 1: Probably that Herbert Ish. I think I don't think he's
- 36:57Speaker 1: the freight train that Josh big enough.
- 36:59Speaker 4: Yeah, he's not taking for the Josh.
- 37:00Speaker 1: He's got the big arm like Herbert does.
- 37:03Speaker 4: And yeah, I think that's probably. I mean, he's athletic
- 37:06Speaker 4: like Herbert is. Yeah, I kind of like that one. Yeah,
- 37:09Speaker 4: it's probably the closest.
- 37:10Speaker 1: I mean, I hate everything's got to be a comparison,
- 37:13Speaker 1: but yeah, that's that's probably the good size.
- 37:16Speaker 4: That's what we do.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Big arms.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Yeah, uh Chris in South Carolina says he's stuck at
- 37:22Speaker 3: work but can't wait for the drive home to listen
- 37:26Speaker 3: to your takes on the switch at quarterback. I just
- 37:28Speaker 3: want to say that I think Drake handled himself extremely
- 37:31Speaker 3: well during the beginning of the season, maturely and responsibly
- 37:35Speaker 3: waiting for his chance to get his career started. I
- 37:37Speaker 3: have a really good feeling about him as a player
- 37:39Speaker 3: and a person, and I think there's good things in
- 37:42Speaker 3: store for us over the next decade as we continue
- 37:45Speaker 3: to build and rally around him.
- 37:47Speaker 4: I know that dude. I know Chris.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Yeah, he was. He's a writer back in the Bleacher
- 37:52Speaker 1: Report days with myself as well, so for free work.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Now that you know him, I just recognize his name.
- 37:59Speaker 4: Okay, I'd be curious as to what he like, what
- 38:03Speaker 4: specifically was he impressed with how Drake May handled himself
- 38:07Speaker 4: in the first five.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Weeks, Like he didn't say anything.
- 38:10Speaker 4: I mean, do you think he should have been like
- 38:13Speaker 4: storming the best deal to tell Gerrod that he should
- 38:15Speaker 4: be starting, because nobody would do that standing there looking
- 38:18Speaker 4: cool on the third overall pick, I'm a rookie in
- 38:22Speaker 4: I'm going to wait my turn, right, I did I
- 38:26Speaker 4: did really like some of this as a complete aside
- 38:30Speaker 4: that question that we've gotten frequently about Drake May on
- 38:34Speaker 4: the sideline, his you know, where he is, his demeanor,
- 38:38Speaker 4: why is he not listening to the coaches, blah blah
- 38:40Speaker 4: blah blah blah. He was asked directly that today and
- 38:43Speaker 4: he gave the exact answer that the four of us,
- 38:47Speaker 4: you know, I'll include Evan, have given, you know, as
- 38:50Speaker 4: our thoughts as to why, you know, he likes the
- 38:53Speaker 4: vantage point of where he is. He's trying to get
- 38:55Speaker 4: behind the offense, behind the quarterback, reading the defense, reading
- 38:58Speaker 4: the safeties, sort of checking the coverage and all the
- 39:02Speaker 4: all the while he's listening to everything. So I thought
- 39:06Speaker 4: that was a yeah, right, exactly what we thought. And yeah,
- 39:09Speaker 4: because that's that's what we've been saying, right, you know.
- 39:12Speaker 4: I was glad to hear that. But yeah, he addressed.
- 39:14Speaker 1: That as close as you can get to really actually
- 39:16Speaker 1: see in the defense.
- 39:17Speaker 3: And Barton Poland, I got to say, starting May versus
- 39:22Speaker 3: Houston may not be the smartest idea. However, as someone
- 39:26Speaker 3: who's going to his first NFL game next week in London,
- 39:29Speaker 3: I'm selfishly loving it. I really like Jacobe but my
- 39:32Speaker 3: first NFL experience being whatever that offense was in the
- 39:35Speaker 3: first five weeks wouldn't have been ideal. Even if the
- 39:38Speaker 3: offense doesn't look great initially with Drake Trevor Lawrence versus
- 39:42Speaker 3: Drake may probably my two favorite quarterback prospects the last
- 39:45Speaker 3: five years. Looks absolutely great for me.
- 39:48Speaker 4: Nice we go.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Definitely some fans over there cited for sure.
- 39:50Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely should be. That'd be great.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Are you, Fred, I've got a couple questions. Are you
- 39:54Speaker 1: gonna do anything over there? You're gonna do any? Meet
- 39:56Speaker 1: Fred kirsch Well.
- 39:58Speaker 3: I will say that there'll be a party on Saturday
- 40:02Speaker 3: night at the Greenwood Pub in London. I'm not exactly
- 40:07Speaker 3: sure where in London it is, but I will be
- 40:10Speaker 3: the host. WHOA, I will be on stage hosting it.
- 40:13Speaker 3: You bring in the talks because no one else would
- 40:15Speaker 3: do it, really no, but I am going to be
- 40:17Speaker 3: the person on stage doing it, so I'll be uh,
- 40:21Speaker 3: I'll be uh running the program.
- 40:24Speaker 4: I will say, my London is fun. Yeah, like you know,
- 40:28Speaker 4: we got a chance to go to Germany too, and
- 40:30Speaker 4: you know, but in terms of just you know the experience,
- 40:36Speaker 4: think of the Friday night in Germany on steroids. That
- 40:40Speaker 4: was London.
- 40:41Speaker 1: That's fun London.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Yeah, our fans in London are great. They are and
- 40:47Speaker 3: they've been and they've been fans for a long time.
- 40:50Speaker 4: Big President. It's going to be a home game. I know.
- 40:52Speaker 4: It's a road game for the Patriots, you know, technically,
- 40:54Speaker 4: and Jacksonville's got that market. They're playing actually this week
- 40:58Speaker 4: in London too, but it's going to be like a
- 41:02Speaker 4: home game for the Papriots.
- 41:03Speaker 1: The first year they played there, oh nine nine yeah, right.
- 41:06Speaker 4: Yeah, Tampa, Yeah, played Tampa again. You know who I
- 41:10Speaker 4: think played quarterback that day for the Bucks, Josh Johnson,
- 41:13Speaker 4: who I believe is still in the league. You might,
- 41:15Speaker 4: you might not still be in Laboy fifteen years.
- 41:17Speaker 3: All right, Well, you gotta take a break. I gotta,
- 41:19Speaker 3: I gotta take off.
- 41:20Speaker 4: I can't believe you.
- 41:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I gotta take off.
- 41:22Speaker 4: You guys take Deuce's creativity now because he's got a host,
- 41:25Speaker 4: because I won't host.
- 41:26Speaker 1: No, I'm gonna, I'm gonna hijack the show.
- 41:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I have to. I have to take off, So
- 41:31Speaker 3: I supposed to. That's my email. I don't want, you know,
- 41:34Speaker 3: use your own email. So Paul Paul Evan, I mean
- 41:41Speaker 3: Paul Deuce Evan will be here. Yeah, so they'll be
- 41:44Speaker 3: here until two o'clock.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Have no fear And obviously we're taking your reaction to
- 41:47Speaker 4: Drake May. Give us a call, let us know what
- 41:50Speaker 4: you think and if you know what, we've been really positive,
- 41:53Speaker 4: you know, in this show, and we're gonna continue to be.
- 41:55Speaker 4: But you guys might not agree with the move, So
- 41:57Speaker 4: that you can let me know those opinions upon welcome
- 42:02Speaker 4: as well.
- 42:02Speaker 3: We'll call in.
- 42:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I Orlowski just thinks it's a bad situation. I
- 42:06Speaker 4: don't think he has anything against Drake May. Let's address that.
- 42:11Speaker 3: If if he was being put in the game, I
- 42:13Speaker 3: can understand why he would think that because he doesn't
- 42:16Speaker 3: have the tools that Drake May has.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and or Loss. He came out in the summer about.
- 42:20Speaker 4: Uh needed to sniff after that one.
- 42:22Speaker 1: I jumped in on that. But he had said in
- 42:24Speaker 1: the summer about he was concerned about Drake May's footwork
- 42:27Speaker 1: how far he had to go.
- 42:28Speaker 4: He's the anti Patriots Twitter guy. He shows clips of
- 42:32Speaker 4: plays that everybody is completely blanketed. Everybody else shows these
- 42:37Speaker 4: these plays where like evidently they've like superimposed the defensive
- 42:41Speaker 4: backs out of the off off the screen, like there's
- 42:44Speaker 4: nobody covering anybody for the Patriots on on the plays
- 42:48Speaker 4: that the Patriots Twitter Twitter likes to put out there.
- 42:52Speaker 3: All right, Uh, Matt, let's do a quick break and uh,

- 44:38Speaker 4: you and how ready are you for this opportunity?
- 44:40Speaker 11: Yeah, you know, I think it's a great opportunity. Let
- 44:42Speaker 11: me drive of you know, getting your first start in
- 44:43Speaker 11: the NFL. So we excited to get out there with
- 44:45Speaker 11: the guys, take advantage of, you know, having the full
- 44:48Speaker 11: week to get prepared and trump for the best for
- 44:50Speaker 11: FOURD helps the team with Drake you just talked about.
- 44:52Speaker 3: You just said the word opportunity.
- 44:54Speaker 1: It is a big opportunity.
- 44:56Speaker 7: How much more comfortable are now?
- 44:58Speaker 10: Several weeks, don't see having watched and learned a little
- 45:01Speaker 10: bit about the system, take advantage of this opportunity, then
- 45:05Speaker 10: maybe he would have been earlier in the season.
- 45:07Speaker 7: Yeah, I think.
- 45:08Speaker 11: Yeah, Now we're in week six, so you get I
- 45:11Speaker 11: had five games of sitting on the sideline hearing the
- 45:12Speaker 11: play calls, preparing for the game, prepared for a Thursday
- 45:16Speaker 11: night game, or preparing for a Sunday night or Sunday
- 45:18Speaker 11: afternoon game. So I feel like we've bounced a lot
- 45:21Speaker 11: of different things throughout the week and had to prepare
- 45:24Speaker 11: and just trying to tag along from Jacoby. I'm a
- 45:26Speaker 11: veteran this league who's does a great job of learning
- 45:30Speaker 11: so much from him and seeing how he goes about practice.
- 45:32Speaker 11: So that's been probably the best thing of watching Jacoby
- 45:35Speaker 11: and watching how he handles, you know, the whole nine yards,
- 45:37Speaker 11: whether it's preparing, handling teammates, handling, handling y'all, and just
- 45:43Speaker 11: he's been great and a great mentor you.
- 45:46Speaker 4: Had in the offense. Has changes movie before and or
- 45:49Speaker 4: the game playing coming off.
- 45:51Speaker 3: The first Sunday.
- 45:52Speaker 11: Yeah, you know, I think the biggest thing is just
- 45:56Speaker 11: just just me playing on time, playing rhythm and and
- 46:00Speaker 11: then trusting the guys around me. I think you know
- 46:01Speaker 11: the game plan that can change, you know. I think
- 46:04Speaker 11: obviously you got a break quarterback going out there. But
- 46:06Speaker 11: at the same time, you know what we're doing offense,
- 46:08Speaker 11: what we're doing offense, So not trying to give too
- 46:10Speaker 11: much hints, you know, towards game plan. We got a
- 46:11Speaker 11: gaming play Sunday, but uh, just looking forward to.
- 46:14Speaker 4: It, like like these concepts or plays or things of
- 46:18Speaker 4: that name.
- 46:18Speaker 11: Yeah, that happens every week. You know, a VP comes
- 46:20Speaker 11: to us at the end of the week. We came
- 46:22Speaker 11: to Jacobe, you know, the first five weeks and what
- 46:24Speaker 11: do you like? And hey, you know this is my
- 46:26Speaker 11: favorite third down or my favorite drop back. So we
- 46:28Speaker 11: do that every week.
- 46:31Speaker 12: Think you are you have the capability of the last
- 46:34Speaker 12: SA plays well platinum plays bringing.
- 46:37Speaker 4: Down also be too.
- 46:40Speaker 3: How do you balance that to start cooking against the.
- 46:44Speaker 7: NFL game was different as we're very good.
- 46:49Speaker 4: Yeah, how will you processed? Be careful?
- 46:53Speaker 11: Yeah, I think early on just try to take take
- 46:55Speaker 11: it and gave me find completions. I think that's the
- 46:57Speaker 11: biggest biggest thing for your young quarterback going in there,
- 47:00Speaker 11: and then from there just don't try to hunt up
- 47:02Speaker 11: you know, off the platform or off off play off
- 47:06Speaker 11: schedule throws. I think just kind of feel it out
- 47:08Speaker 11: and just play football.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:10Speaker 11: I think the biggest thing sometimes is just you try
- 47:12Speaker 11: to get outside of pocket you don't need to, and
- 47:14Speaker 11: and little things like that. So just play within the
- 47:15Speaker 11: pocket and trust my feet and uh just should go
- 47:18Speaker 11: out there and play.
- 47:19Speaker 12: What do you say like you've thrown the most dangerous.
- 47:25Speaker 11: Yeah, I think just just really is what comes with
- 47:27Speaker 11: you know, kind of learning you know the NFL quarterback
- 47:30Speaker 11: and uh kind of what comes with you're really the title,
- 47:32Speaker 11: you know, handling shoot leadership, learning from Tacobe what he's done.
- 47:36Speaker 7: He's a great leader guys, you know one you know,
- 47:38Speaker 7: biggest leaders on the team. How you know the.
- 47:40Speaker 11: Verbage of you know, calling the huddles. Just had you know,
- 47:43Speaker 11: first walk through and I feel pretty good with the
- 47:45Speaker 11: verbage there. So other than that, just uh, excited for
- 47:49Speaker 11: excite for these guys. I think it's opportunity to it's
- 47:51Speaker 11: a good football team to go out there and you know,
- 47:53Speaker 11: prooves people wrong.
- 47:55Speaker 4: The conversation was.
- 47:56Speaker 7: Like twin you and Chapobe after you've got the news
- 47:58Speaker 7: and what.
- 47:58Speaker 11: The does the channel down in front of Kobe. You know,
- 48:01Speaker 11: he's the idea that you make, you know, ideal You've
- 48:03Speaker 11: got to be in the room with the quarterback.
- 48:05Speaker 7: You know.
- 48:05Speaker 11: I think the biggest thing is you hate it for
- 48:07Speaker 11: you hate it for him, you know, I think you
- 48:09Speaker 11: know Jacobe, you know, fought, fought his butt off, you know,
- 48:12Speaker 11: got up you know every time he's getting hit. And
- 48:15Speaker 11: not only that, it just kept kept that that mindset
- 48:17Speaker 11: of hey, it's gonna be the next play. You know,
- 48:19Speaker 11: got this drive coming. Just see him on the sideline
- 48:22Speaker 11: and uh, you know how it was the positive vibes.
- 48:25Speaker 11: So he kind of kept and brought to this team
- 48:26Speaker 11: and we'll still bring to this team. You know, he's
- 48:28Speaker 11: a great mentor great friend. And I was trying to
- 48:31Speaker 11: do everything I can to help him and I'm sure
- 48:34Speaker 11: to do the same.
- 48:35Speaker 12: Watching Jakobe in games, look at you on the sideline
- 48:39Speaker 12: while he's out there, it seems like off the times
- 48:42Speaker 12: your batage point just down the sideline, we'll be you
- 48:45Speaker 12: gaining for.
- 48:45Speaker 13: That point of view, and how did.
- 48:46Speaker 7: It match up what you were saying what you.
- 48:48Speaker 11: Saw one yeah, kind of down the side. You gotta
- 48:51Speaker 11: get a more view of the defensive structure, trying to
- 48:54Speaker 11: see techniques up front from the defensive line, trying to
- 48:57Speaker 11: see shafeties, trying to see of back end stuff, and
- 49:00Speaker 11: at the same time kind of get the back few
- 49:02Speaker 11: quarterbacks thinking. So that was I tried to do that
- 49:05Speaker 11: or or try to kind of stand behind Jacobey. I
- 49:07Speaker 11: think that was kind of kind of my mindset. He's
- 49:09Speaker 11: trying to get a feel of, you know, playing back
- 49:11Speaker 11: there behind him, what it'd be like, and you don't
- 49:13Speaker 11: get a great views as you do in practice and
- 49:15Speaker 11: standing right behind him, So just trying to reprocate that
- 49:18Speaker 11: and play play the game along the sideline made a
- 49:22Speaker 11: lot of some of the best quarterbacks in the league
- 49:24Speaker 11: on the scout team most wondering are there any specific
- 49:26Speaker 11: lessons you.
- 49:27Speaker 4: Were able to learn from, you know, emulating Burrow Rogers
- 49:29Speaker 4: or any of those guys.
- 49:31Speaker 11: Yeah, I think, uh, just the timing that they play
- 49:35Speaker 11: with in the routes. I think, you know, our our
- 49:37Speaker 11: defense coaches speak on that, kind of the rhythm and
- 49:39Speaker 11: the timing of you know, hey, this this ball throwing
- 49:41Speaker 11: before they're looking, and anticipation and you know, throwing guys open.
- 49:45Speaker 11: I think that's the biggest thing, and I've tried to
- 49:46Speaker 11: take a new Scout team, as you know, trying to
- 49:48Speaker 11: you know, throw guys open and maybe throw throw the
- 49:50Speaker 11: ball out. I may not have in my life before
- 49:53Speaker 11: if I see something, So I think that's the biggest thing.
- 49:55Speaker 11: And yeah, we've we've on Scout team. We've kind of
- 49:57Speaker 11: wrapped some some pretty good quarterbacks and some fun offenses
- 50:00Speaker 11: to to throw the football in on Scout. So, uh,
- 50:03Speaker 11: it's been it's been cool to see how similar the
- 50:05Speaker 11: offenses are and kind of some stuff that we have
- 50:07Speaker 11: and some stuff they do differently.
- 50:08Speaker 7: So it's been pretty pretty cool that you can only.
- 50:10Speaker 4: Control where you can.
- 50:11Speaker 12: Did you feel over the last couple of weeks maybe
- 50:13Speaker 12: that this was heading in the direction that it's in
- 50:15Speaker 12: this week? Did you maybe get you know, more reps
- 50:17Speaker 12: in practice? Did you just feel like we're heading in
- 50:20Speaker 12: this direction to start this week this early?
- 50:23Speaker 11: You know, really, I just trying to prepare and instead
- 50:25Speaker 11: try to stay ready every week. You know, I think
- 50:27Speaker 11: that's the thing about this league. You never know what
- 50:29Speaker 11: your numbers gonna get called, so try to stay ready.
- 50:32Speaker 11: And I think, you know, like I said earlier, Jacoby,
- 50:34Speaker 11: I think he did all he could. I think he
- 50:36Speaker 11: you know, battles his butt off and was a great leader.
- 50:39Speaker 11: So I think kind of the biggest thing is, you know,
- 50:42Speaker 11: it's the winning league. You know, we're sitting here at
- 50:44Speaker 11: one and four, and I think, you know, those guys
- 50:46Speaker 11: around here want to win for yourself. Yeah, I think
- 50:52Speaker 11: you'll go out there and just try to make some plays.
- 50:54Speaker 11: I think the biggest thing I must tell them some
- 50:56Speaker 11: of those guys is, you know, probably meet a little
- 50:57Speaker 11: nerves at the beginning. But I think the thing once
- 51:00Speaker 11: we settle down, we got a chance to move to
- 51:03Speaker 11: football and just have fun out there. Back to having
- 51:05Speaker 11: fun going out there. Thinks that is what this game about.
- 51:07Speaker 11: Don't make it too big or the spotlight too big,
- 51:09Speaker 11: and uh, just go out there with those guys that
- 51:12Speaker 11: should we've been battling for the three months in training camp.
- 51:15Speaker 7: Go out there and try to make some plays open
- 51:17Speaker 7: to get home.
- 51:18Speaker 1: In front of the fans here. And also, will you
- 51:20Speaker 1: have an entire may family section coming at the game?
- 51:24Speaker 11: Yeah, I think, you know, I think a few of
- 51:26Speaker 11: my brothers and my parents would be here, but uh,
- 51:28Speaker 11: nothing in particular. But I think pretty Sweeten and the
- 51:31Speaker 11: red throwbacks may me that would be pretty cool to
- 51:34Speaker 11: get out there in my first art and especial in
- 51:36Speaker 11: front of these fans, and I think Patriots fans the
- 51:39Speaker 11: best fans in the league and looking forward to you know,
- 51:41Speaker 11: playing Gillette in front of them.
- 51:42Speaker 7: Thank you.

- 52:43Speaker 4: And now great moments in.
- 52:47Speaker 6: History.
- 52:48Speaker 4: So in Sync is playing at the old stadium and
- 52:51Speaker 4: like my wife is going, she's taking my nieces and stuff.
- 52:54Speaker 4: The webmaster who rickames, he took this piece of cardboard
- 53:00Speaker 4: and somehow like butt this wire and it's like honk
- 53:03Speaker 4: if you love in sync.
- 53:05Speaker 3: But it he rigged it up in such a way
- 53:08Speaker 3: that Paul wouldn't see it when he got in his car,
- 53:10Speaker 3: but once he started driving.
- 53:11Speaker 1: It down down.
- 53:13Speaker 7: So I was driving.
- 53:15Speaker 4: And everyone and I'm meeting bet at like Papa Gino's
- 53:19Speaker 4: and like everybody's beeping and I'm like what. I'm like,
- 53:22Speaker 4: I'm driving like ten miles.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Hey, ass man, exactly, you got that right.
- 53:27Speaker 4: I looked at it. I was like, oh, that's that's
- 53:29Speaker 4: just too perfect. Everybody, every single person in the building
- 53:33Speaker 4: knew about it, and they all like, were what And
- 53:36Speaker 4: they couldn't wait for me to get back because I
- 53:38Speaker 4: was going down to meet Beth and my nieces and
- 53:40Speaker 4: I was coming back and they were like, I bet go.
- 53:42Speaker 3: That's another great moment from.
- 53:47Speaker 4: That was a classic.
- 53:48Speaker 1: All Right, we're back here with a in SINC super fan,
- 53:50Speaker 1: Paul Perillo.
- 53:51Speaker 4: I do like him. You know what, it's gonna be mad,
- 53:55Speaker 4: It's gonna be made perfect.
- 53:57Speaker 1: How perfect is that?
- 53:57Speaker 7: Paul?
- 53:58Speaker 1: Well, we're riding with Peepy and the Deuce here as
- 54:00Speaker 1: Fred left us alone. So now I get to hide and.
- 54:02Speaker 4: Even Fred Leven's not going to get us out of
- 54:04Speaker 4: good moods. We're just excited, No, we are.
- 54:06Speaker 1: There was a funny email. I don't I'm not to
- 54:08Speaker 1: go back to it, but somebody said, he's like I
- 54:10Speaker 1: love Duce, He's like all Monotona depressed on Tuesday, the
- 54:13Speaker 1: post game show on Tuesday, and then he comes in
- 54:15Speaker 1: today and I'm.
- 54:15Speaker 4: Like, everything Sunday. Sunday was a wellness check on Douce. Yeah,
- 54:19Speaker 4: you know, that was a particularly tough loss for you
- 54:21Speaker 4: because you put a lot into that one.
- 54:22Speaker 3: I did.
- 54:23Speaker 1: I had a rank in camera and everything. I took
- 54:25Speaker 1: my one like Fred does, and I was like, you know,
- 54:27Speaker 1: try to rally the troops. They didn't listen to me, though, No,
- 54:30Speaker 1: but you know, that was just feeling like you had
- 54:33Speaker 1: maybe a chance to put Miami into more of a
- 54:35Speaker 1: spiral and maybe put them below where you're going to
- 54:37Speaker 1: be at the end of this year.
- 54:38Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 54:39Speaker 1: I mean, it's obviously there's so many injuries and things
- 54:41Speaker 1: that I had to play out, but you know, just
- 54:43Speaker 1: to see the same game again, it goes back to why.
- 54:45Speaker 4: The division has some issues. I mean, there's no question
- 54:48Speaker 4: Miami certainly didn't fix anything with that win.
- 54:51Speaker 7: The other day.
- 54:52Speaker 4: Obviously the Jets. I don't know how much talk do
- 54:55Speaker 4: we talk about sala I don't think so gone he gone, yeah,
- 54:58Speaker 4: so yeah. The division in a little bit of a turmoil,
- 55:01Speaker 4: it is, I mean, and Fred will tell you the
- 55:03Speaker 4: bills are done anyway, So right window clo closing.
- 55:08Speaker 1: So Paul, I'm want to read this email here because
- 55:09Speaker 1: I think it's a good one from John in Utah
- 55:12Speaker 1: and it's kind of what I kind of how I
- 55:13Speaker 1: feel a little bit.
- 55:14Speaker 4: Congratulations on the win last night for the hockey club.
- 55:17Speaker 1: Oh and he actually mentions that in his email, but
- 55:19Speaker 1: he says, I'm trying not to get premat at fans
- 55:21Speaker 1: for calling Drake May a bust in December when the
- 55:23Speaker 1: team only has three wins and the offense is only
- 55:25Speaker 1: marginally improved. I'm glad he's going to get some experience
- 55:28Speaker 1: seeing and doing everything firsthand and said on the sideline.
- 55:31Speaker 1: He also adds, you know, Jacoby Resenters deserves the NFL's
- 55:34Speaker 1: purple heart for standing in behind that offensive line and
- 55:37Speaker 1: taking shots constantly. Hopefully they'll be able to improve a bit,
- 55:40Speaker 1: but regardless, it'll be a learning experience for Drake. Excited
- 55:43Speaker 1: for a new hour and he says he was at
- 55:44Speaker 1: the game last night in Utah for the Utah Hockey Club.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Are they sticking with that? They gonna change it?
- 55:49Speaker 4: I think for the year anyway, that's for the year.
- 55:50Speaker 1: That's a new thing they do. They like, you know,
- 55:52Speaker 1: you soft launch your your mascot.
- 55:54Speaker 4: If you were a team, would you just put a
- 55:56Speaker 4: mascot out there sight unseen?
- 55:58Speaker 1: Oh no, I know, I bet it for listen right, Well,
- 56:01Speaker 1: I like the Fleet. Our own PWHL team went with
- 56:04Speaker 1: the Fleet. And I know I'm usually against the singular,
- 56:07Speaker 1: but fleet does imply many of ships, so I guess
- 56:10Speaker 1: I'm okay with it. Okay, But I like Utah's colors.
- 56:13Speaker 1: I think I like like that that light blue like
- 56:15Speaker 1: I've always liked main Sorry, I know your hockey's guy.
- 56:18Speaker 1: I like those light blue, dark blue kind of combinations.
- 56:20Speaker 1: I think they went with a good choice. It wasn't
- 56:22Speaker 1: anything too crazy, like you know, those crazy teals and stuff.
- 56:25Speaker 1: But but go back to the email, Paul, That's just
- 56:27Speaker 1: what I'm worried about. It's like, how do we know
- 56:30Speaker 1: the difference without wins and losses of it was good
- 56:34Speaker 1: for Drake May versus it wasn't as good as we
- 56:38Speaker 1: thought it would be, you know, and I want to
- 56:39Speaker 1: be fair to him. Yeah, and it's going to be
- 56:40Speaker 1: easy to react to wins and losses. But you know,
- 56:43Speaker 1: we talked about ninety three, brought up a couple of
- 56:45Speaker 1: times we bled so where they won the last four games,
- 56:47Speaker 1: and I mean they won five games all year. They
- 56:49Speaker 1: were five and twelve or sorry, five and eleven. See
- 56:51Speaker 1: the seventeen games got on my head.
- 56:53Speaker 4: Five and eleven, but there was excitement.
- 56:55Speaker 1: And obviously you beat Miami and over you you know,
- 56:57Speaker 1: you win, and it was overtime too, right as a
- 56:59Speaker 1: walk off touch down win to end the season. You
- 57:01Speaker 1: don't make the playoffs?
- 57:02Speaker 4: Who cut the touchdown pass?
- 57:03Speaker 7: You have?
- 57:04Speaker 4: What come on? You discussed? I don't know, Michael Timpson.
- 57:09Speaker 1: Timpson and I wouldn't have gotten that one. But obviously
- 57:12Speaker 1: that's the clear example of like that's great, right, Like
- 57:15Speaker 1: you won your last four games. I'm sure you can
- 57:17Speaker 1: tell us how exactly Bledsoe was playing in those games.
- 57:20Speaker 4: But yeah, it might not be like that. He was
- 57:22Speaker 4: a typical rookie quarterback. He had his UPSTATECE. I think
- 57:24Speaker 4: he had fifteen touchdowns, fifteen picks or something like that.
- 57:27Speaker 4: It was right it was, you know, a very mediocre season,
- 57:30Speaker 4: but there were games that you saw along the way
- 57:33Speaker 4: that you were like, Okay, I can see what they see. Certainly,
- 57:37Speaker 4: you know, you could make an argument that that last
- 57:39Speaker 4: game against Miami that you were talking about was the
- 57:41Speaker 4: best game. You know, I think they I think it
- 57:44Speaker 4: was like thirty three twenty seven in overtime, Like it
- 57:46Speaker 4: was a high scoring game.
- 57:47Speaker 1: You could score more than thirty points.
- 57:49Speaker 4: That's yeah, yeah, so you saw. I always say that
- 57:54Speaker 4: particularly or not that we need to go back into
- 57:56Speaker 4: the nineteen ninety three time machine, but historical comparison, there
- 57:59Speaker 4: was a game that he was absolutely off, probably his
- 58:01Speaker 4: worst game he played at Pittsburgh, and I think he
- 58:05Speaker 4: threw five interceptions. But what I came away that was
- 58:11Speaker 4: the most, that was the most convinced that I was
- 58:14Speaker 4: that he was going to be a good player, because
- 58:15Speaker 4: it was awful. It was three Rivers Stadium. Nothing was
- 58:20Speaker 4: going right. He was making all kinds of mistakes, and
- 58:24Speaker 4: they got the ball back at the end of the game.
- 58:26Speaker 4: I want to say, they were down seventeen to fourteen,
- 58:29Speaker 4: and all of a sudden he put together a drive
- 58:32Speaker 4: and they went all the way down the field. They
- 58:33Speaker 4: had the ball inside the one yard line, they went forward.
- 58:36Speaker 4: Instead of kicking the field goal to tie, they went
- 58:38Speaker 4: for the win on a quarterback seat. He got stuffed.
- 58:40Speaker 4: But I was like, you can play that bad as
- 58:45Speaker 4: a rookie, and yet with the game on the line,
- 58:48Speaker 4: you put together a drive and you know, obviously they
- 58:51Speaker 4: fell short. It was kind of a big thing with
- 58:53Speaker 4: Parcels and Led so about the quarterback sneak. Parcells didn't
- 58:57Speaker 4: want to do it. Juice that I can get in
- 59:00Speaker 4: the whole thing, but like, no, he didn't get in.
- 59:02Speaker 4: But I was just like if like I always say,
- 59:06Speaker 4: you know, pitchers, like you know, I used to say,
- 59:09Speaker 4: like anybody can get guys out when they have their stuff,
- 59:12Speaker 4: what do you do when you don't?
- 59:13Speaker 8: You know?
- 59:13Speaker 4: Same for a quarterback. You know, when you go out
- 59:16Speaker 4: and like the first two drives, you go right down
- 59:18Speaker 4: the field and it's fourteen. Not anybody can play great
- 59:21Speaker 4: the rest of the game that way, But what do
- 59:22Speaker 4: you do when you stink for three quarters but the
- 59:25Speaker 4: game is still winnable. That's why I give Brissette a
- 59:28Speaker 4: little credit. I thought some of his best throws in
- 59:30Speaker 4: the five weeks came in that last drive last week.
- 59:33Speaker 4: That's hard. That's hard to do mentally to overcome all
- 59:37Speaker 4: that adversity that a lot of which is brought on
- 59:40Speaker 4: by you and your performance. How do you respond to that?
- 59:44Speaker 4: So those are the kinds of little things that I'll
- 59:45Speaker 4: be looking for with Drake May. I'm not expecting him
- 59:48Speaker 4: to do what Jayden Daniels is doing. Like if that happens, obviously,
- 59:52Speaker 4: you know we'll do the fred shirt off thing in
- 59:54Speaker 4: the press. No, not only one of us that's in shape.
- 59:58Speaker 4: Why wouldn't you do it?
- 59:59Speaker 1: I need to horrify everyone in the past box Pall.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: That's true. We've got enough going for it.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: Like it'd be great if he was so good that
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: we can all see it. It's obvious to anybody. But
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: more likely it's going to be more of a thing
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: where you know, there's some subtleties that he's he's doing
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: some things better than he had been doing, you know, incrementally,
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: and the offense looks incrementally better than it was with Brissette.
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: And you know, like something that you said before we
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: took the break, you know, is the ball coming out quick?
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: Is it coming out to the right place? The easy stuff?
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: And I think he mentioned that to me, something about,
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: you know, the easy throws, and you had made the
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: comment I just wish we could get the easy stuff
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: with Brissette, and I said, well, what's what's easy? Yeah,
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: like that kind of stuff. It might not translate to
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: more production and more points and all that, but I'd
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: like to see some of those quick throws be completed
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: more often than they have been.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Do you think though, I mean, I feel like it's
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: most likely going to be nuanced and it's not going
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: to be a box score like look at the box score,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: and you know, you know, like and I think that's
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: one of the things that like you're good at because
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: sometimes people it feels like just read the box score
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: and then they say it and then you come and
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: like rattle off the play sequence and you're like, well, actually,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: you know, and I said.
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: Like, how many holding calls did they get in the
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: game the other day that wiped out running plays? Yeah?
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: I know that kind of stuff.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Is there any chance that he's even better than we're expecting?
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: I mean, I know we're not super you know, over
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: the top positive.
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: I think there's a big I think there's a really
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: good chance he's better than I'm expecting. Because I'm not
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: expecting much at the start.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: I'm trying to temper expectations. But you know, that's what
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: I just want to set reasonable. I felt like I
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: was reasonable, Like someone wrote in and said, you know,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: I felt like, get to November, that's when I was
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: going to start to get the itch. I felt like
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: that was reasonable. And I want to be you know,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: reasonable in my expectations of what he can do. But
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: I think the only thing that will disappoint me, though,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: is that if we don't see those glimpses of the talent,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: you know, the athleticism, the army. But to be fair,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: I feel like those things were on display from the
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: word go this spring when we first got him out there,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: and he was just you know, not all of them complete,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: but not afraid to chuck the ball down the field,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: to throw the ball where he's you know, in the air,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: and and you know, off platform, all that stuff. Like
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: he just he didn't hesitate from any of that stuff.
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: I want to see some offense that just looks natural.
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: Patriots think of Patriots Patriots plays. I want to see
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: offense that looks normal.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: All right, let's jump over to the phones here. Check
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: out Mike Vermont the TPX Hotline. Thanks for reminding me,
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Mike and Vermont. He Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: I'm not a phone dropper. You gotta come on. But
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: all right, you're out jumping down to Vegas, Vinnie, Vegas.
- 1:02:38Speaker 8: Ay, Anny, Hey guys, how's been going? Hey?
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: Uh, I am.
- 1:02:45Speaker 8: I'm excited for Drake. I don't have a lot of expectations.
- 1:02:49Speaker 8: I just wanted to start going on his development. I
- 1:02:54Speaker 8: did actually listen to some of the Pole's shows the
- 1:02:57Speaker 8: other day, and you know, they brought out that they
- 1:03:00Speaker 8: they felt like the move was a panic move, and
- 1:03:05Speaker 8: I don't I don't fully disagree with it. What I
- 1:03:08Speaker 8: do disagree with is that the Houston Texans are you know,
- 1:03:13Speaker 8: the worst time to do it, you know, a month
- 1:03:15Speaker 8: ago when they say that the plan was made, there
- 1:03:20Speaker 8: was no soft landing spot for Drake on the first
- 1:03:23Speaker 8: you know, six weeks. I mean you had you know,
- 1:03:26Speaker 8: at that point, the Dolphins had their quarterback, right, I
- 1:03:28Speaker 8: mean that that was going to be a game that
- 1:03:31Speaker 8: we were going to lose a home, right, And so
- 1:03:33Speaker 8: I don't fully agree that, you know, if the plan
- 1:03:36Speaker 8: was made a month ago, that they were they should
- 1:03:39Speaker 8: have been starting before now like that. That doesn't go
- 1:03:43Speaker 8: with me. And I do have a question for you guys.
- 1:03:46Speaker 8: How big of a deal it is that Kendrick Bourne
- 1:03:49Speaker 8: is going to be able to play and as a
- 1:03:50Speaker 8: full goal.
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: Gotcha, thanks for many appreciate the call.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Uh another guy? Yet another guy?
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: I mean, another another option in the passing game? Are
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: they they need more?
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: Start to ramp up to a little bit more. I mean,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: he didn't didn't play a lot, and he said, what
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: do you say?
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: He probably felt like you needed another couple of weeks
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: before that was going to happen. But yeah, I think
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: he's a better player than the guys that are not
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: going to be playing now, So I think that helps.
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: Sticking with the.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: TPX hoighline, Patty's up.
- 1:04:19Speaker 7: Dan, Hey, I got typ one.
- 1:04:24Speaker 14: Yeah, so PAULI I got Michael Timpson when you said that,
- 1:04:28Speaker 14: I got I got that right away. I'm like, how
- 1:04:30Speaker 14: the hell does Douce not know that that was Michael
- 1:04:32Speaker 14: Timpson who he.
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: Was just blogging at the time.
- 1:04:38Speaker 14: I'm Mike, I don't know what to say o that.
- 1:04:41Speaker 14: I'm excited. I can't wait. And the bigger question I
- 1:04:45Speaker 14: wanted to ask you guys, and well, it's not the
- 1:04:48Speaker 14: bigger question. The smaller question I wanted to ask you
- 1:04:50Speaker 14: guys is do you think do you guys have any
- 1:04:54Speaker 14: interest in Devin Waite, who has been recently released due
- 1:04:57Speaker 14: to the attrition that's been on the team and on
- 1:04:59Speaker 14: the deep and specifically up the middle of the defense.
- 1:05:02Speaker 15: Yeah, I think he'd be.
- 1:05:03Speaker 14: A good ad. I'd love to seem in Patriots blue.
- 1:05:07Speaker 14: I don't know what you guys think.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, thanks Paddy, I I'd be all for it.
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: I first thought was why is he released?
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that is a question, and I don't
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: know why he hasn't played, isn't dressed for a single
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: game in Philly. But I don't know. I'm always intrigued
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: because just because they don't have anybody right now, and
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: I you know, and I'm.
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: Not I wouldn't kill him for doing it, you know,
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: But my guess is he's done?
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: What's he have left? Yeah, I mean it's fair to wonder.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: I don't know enough about him, But it's just when
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: these names get released, like a guy is a good
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: and then for eternity, it's.
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: I absolutely loved dev Devin White and Tampa was a
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: great player.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: How did he fall off so quick?
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: Because I just think there's a lot of wear and
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: tear at that spot, like a little so there was
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: a trend in the league that really went wide widespread
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: with that, you know, that undersized athletic inside linebacker types.
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: It was you know, Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith and
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: Kenneth Murray and Devin White, Devin Bush. I think in
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: Pittsburgh there were a lot of guys like that, and
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: I loved them. I thought it was sort of a
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: new way. And Belichick wasn't enamored with those guys. They
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: were too small for him. Devin White's a guy that
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: was really really good. I just think there's probably a
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: lot of wear and tear being a little undersized.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: I mean, even not being undersized. Look at j Want Bentley,
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: I mean he's getting a little bit wear in tear.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: Darren Side as.
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: Well, But I do I mean, I would have no
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: problem with taking a flyer on a guy like that
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: obviously had the ability to be an impact player in
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: the league. Whether or not he could still do it,
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: who knows, you know.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: Sticking with the TPX hotline, it's very hot on the
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: hot line today, Kendall, North Carolina.
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: Hey Kendall, go on, what's.
- 1:06:43Speaker 6: Up when you when do you think you know what?
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: You had?
- 1:06:48Speaker 14: Take a year?
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: About two years?
- 1:06:50Speaker 16: And then my facond question is are.
- 1:06:53Speaker 7: You saying.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: I said I didn't?
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: When when do you think you'll know about the quarterback?
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: And I would say around this time next year, you'll
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: probably have a pretty good clue, just assuming he plays
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: all the games like that get hurt, Like if he plays,
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: you know whatever, what do they have left till twelve?
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: We have twelve games left, So if he plays twelve
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: and then you know another, you know, half dozen or
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: so next year, you probably have a good idea of
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: where he.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: Is, and you'll see how they are, what the new
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: pieces are doing, you know, is their round tackle?
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: Like it's never perfect, Like Trevor Lawrence, Like he played
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: his rookie year and it was a disaster with urban
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: Meyer and all that mess that went on there. And
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: then he took a second year, and then as the
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: second year sort of was wrapping up, it looked like
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: he was getting really good. And then third year he
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: looked like he was phenomenal, and then all of a
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: sudden he hurt his ankle and he lost nine games
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: in a row and finally snapped that streak last week.
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: So certainly, if you went halfway to the second year
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: for Trevor Lawrence, you'd be like, Oh, we got something here.
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: He's he's definitely on the rise. And I still think
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: he's good to me too. I know, I don't think
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: he's great.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: I know it scares me. I mean, I guess is
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: the path to greatness always I mean, I know it's
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: a little bumpy, but is it generally up? I mean,
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: with him, it seems like it's you know, I don't
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: know if he's still on that path of greatness.
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: And Kendall, I would just say the wide receivers are
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: probably what you saw on Sunday. I think it's Douglas Polk.
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: I think it's Douglas Polk born with some some booty
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: mixed in, like mixing in the booty.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: I like booty Stick, one of the TPX hotline, but
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: first in Patriots fans. If you want to see Toyota's
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: best offers, including those not seen on TV, go to
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: buy at toyota dot com. It's Toyota's official website for
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: deals from the official vehicle of the New England Patriots.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: Let's go places, and of course, Paul, it's easy to drink,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: it's easy to enjoy. Bud Light, the official beer sponsor
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: of the New England Patriots. Heading out to Toronto, Brad,
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: I think the Maple Lice got off to a good
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: start last night today, did they didn't?
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: I didn't care they played.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: Maybe they didn't tonight.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: Come on.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: There's just a lot of hype, a lot of I.
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: Know, Brad, I got it with mister hockey here.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: Sorry. Yah, he doesn't even know what's going on up
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: in Toronto.
- 1:09:05Speaker 16: Oh nothing, really, I just got a quick question talking
- 1:09:08Speaker 16: about starting May. Would it autun made sense to start
- 1:09:11Speaker 16: him last week? Considered it's a short week going to London.
- 1:09:14Speaker 16: They got the Jags, so I didn't know what the
- 1:09:16Speaker 16: schedule is. Yeah, you would think that it'll be a
- 1:09:19Speaker 16: shorter week this week, coming up after Houston.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks, Brad.
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: I just I think we've been saying it for so long,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: POULI it's like it's never gonna be perfect, Like there's
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: always gonna be something you can point out to be
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: like it shouldn't be this week?
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: And would he just like what Brad just said. Yeah, like,
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: I think you could make an argument you should have
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: played last week. I think you could argument they could
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: have waited un till next week, and then you could say, well,
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: why would you do it next week when it's going
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: to be London and all that. So yeah, I mean
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: there's there's no perfect time. I'm just excited that it's
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: it's time.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I mean maybe it's a good thing.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: Maybe you spin it that way of all right, Well,
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: like I said earlier, you're getting him to face against
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: a young, up and coming team that seems like it's
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: going to be in the mix for a while. And
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: then you know, Jackson it's been up and down, but
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: you know, still has kind of a teeter with that,
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: you know, with that up and coming thing for a
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: little bit. I mean they know that they've fallen back
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: a little bit, but you know, and he gets an
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: opportunity to go on a you know, a foreign stadium,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: and you know, all the.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: Thing is interesting. It's another one like we don't have
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: to turn it into like Jacksonville podcast. But they were
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: a disaster then all of a sudden, they they won
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: a division at nine and eight. Then they won a
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: playoff game with an unbelievable comeback against the Chargers. Yeah.
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: Then they were eight and three last year, number one
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: seed in the AFC, and then Trevor Lawrence turned his
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: ankle and they never won to get they won one game,
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: I believe they beat Carolina without Trevor Lawrence and that
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: was it and they ended up losing out in the
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: playoffs and then they will you know what, they lose
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: four in a row to start the year until they
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: won the other day. I still think that's a good
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: football team, that's a talented team, that's, you know, got
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: some problems. Obviously they won in four. They have problems,
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: but I still think they have some talent.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Yeah, danon Virginia, I mean, I don't really want to
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: read this one because he's talking about, like with Drake starting.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: It removes the fear I've had while seeing Jacoby take
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: a beating. If Jacoby were to sustain a long term
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: or season ending injury, he wo'll be the backup to
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Drake should he, god forbid, suffer a similar injury. Joe
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Milton Mayo said today that it would be said to
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: be Jacoby, but is that what people are afraid of?
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: Is that what they're afraid of its long time because
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: they're just afraid of him getting hurt by a really
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: good time.
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: That's what I mean. I know I'm picking on Mike Lombardi,
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: and I know he was a general manager in the league,
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: So you know, what have I ever done? Nothing that's accurate.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: You guys are accurate to point that out.
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: But I just.
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: You can't operate in fear of injury in that league.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: Everybody like injuries. Everybody's dealing with them. People are going
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: to get hurt, you know, no one wants them to happen.
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: But like if you had to say, Mike, if you
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: had to say, do you think Kobe Brissett would have
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: started seventeen games physically?
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: No, no way.
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: Do you think Drake may is going to start the
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: last twelve? God? I hope so, but probably not right
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: because it's just like that's what happens. I know, like
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: there's a reason that almost none of the quarterbacks will
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: start all seventeen games for their teams. You just pray
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: it's not acl or you know, maybe like he sprains
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: his shoulder or something, and you know, like he has
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: left shoulder. I guess the miss a week and not
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: like the season, but that's what the unfortunate fact of
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: the matter is is these guys are probably going to
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: get hurt.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, well, I think that's what's scary is
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: is you get into the game and all of a
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: sudden it looks like that Eagles joint practice did where
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: you're just like, he can't do any I mean, what
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: do you want to do? Like they're right in his
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: face every you know, that's what's scary. And then is
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: the hit start to add up? Does it? You know,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: that is something to watch over the long term of
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: does the tonnage catch up with him? Does he start
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: to get sped up?
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: That's as they start watching the rush and instantly bailing,
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: which is I think with the line of demarcation came
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: with Mac Jones.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Yeah right right, just kept catching up but fingers crossed.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: We'll see TPX outline. Matthew Arizona.
- 1:13:09Speaker 7: Matthew was going to.
- 1:13:12Speaker 13: Get here man. Yeah right, So yeah, I'm really excited
- 1:13:17Speaker 13: for for Dreak to start kind of thinking back and
- 1:13:20Speaker 13: what you guys are talking about, like a blessed his
- 1:13:22Speaker 13: first year, we won five and eleven. Correct me from
- 1:13:25Speaker 13: long but.
- 1:13:26Speaker 17: I think it was like eight of the eleven maybe
- 1:13:28Speaker 17: the eight eleven games, like, you know, we're close to winning.
- 1:13:31Speaker 17: So I think with Drake and looking at like progression
- 1:13:33Speaker 17: more than evening like that he didn't need Brady because
- 1:13:39Speaker 17: Pluso was getting Jack so much that he can get hurt.
- 1:13:42Speaker 17: He got injured during a Lesso came it was able.
- 1:13:45Speaker 13: To win it, so you have to fear of injury.
- 1:13:47Speaker 13: But that progressing in.
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: The NFL, Yeah, I didn't hear a lot of that.
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: I know he's right about the ninety three seasons. It
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: was very lot was very competitive, like they lost a
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: lot of close games. They were you know, I want
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: to say, like it was like one in six and
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: then like seven, eight nine, Like they were like one
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: score games like over and over and over. They just
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: couldn't find a way to win one of them. And
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: then they played really well finally in December and I
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: think they beat I want to say, they beat the
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: Colts like thirty eight to nothing, you know, in one
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: of those games. And obviously the Miami game that we
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: talked about. But the one thing that Parcels did a
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: really really good job of. He said, I'm gonna put
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: this kid, I'm gonna throw him to the Wolves. But
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: he made sure that he was protected. That's the one
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: thing that really one glaring thing difference, especially Bledsoe. Right, Well,
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: Drew didn't get first of all, this is like you
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: knew that he wasn't exactly like Lamar Jackson back there,
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: but when he came out, he wasn't the guy what
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: did Ernie Adams call him in the documentary the wounded
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: wildebeest or something like that. He wasn't that at that time.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: Yeah, he's like shake a little bit.
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: He never got sacked his first like when Parcells was
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: the coach, that was what four years. He never got sacked.
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: He didn't start getting sacked until Parcells left. And I
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: think it was part of coaching with you know, when
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: Carol came in, like it wasn't the same sort of
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: dedication to protecting the passer because they had gotten sacked
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: like an absurd amount of times in ninety two and
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: Parcells came in and said, we're going to cut that
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: number down significantly, and they did.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: And how did they do it? Did they?
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: I mean because that's he signed he signed some of
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: his guys like he got. I think William Roberts came
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: from the Giants as one of the gods. I think
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: Bob cratch Yeah might have come cratche Yeah. I hate
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: when you look at me like that. It's funny because
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: it makes me feel so bad about myself.
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: These names, and then all of a sudden, I can
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: just like picture the name.
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: Do you have this at me?
- 1:15:52Speaker 8: Like what?
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: That's my kind of a person, that's that kind of minutia.
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: That's my memory because I went to that.
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: That's when it all happened. For Like, I was always
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: a Patriots fan, but when they drafted him number one overall,
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: I said, I'm in. I'm a season ticket holder. Now
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: I'm with you. Now, Pop, I'm in Wellntal And that
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: was it. That was the That was the start for me,
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: hopefully passion.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: People like Steven Scottsdale, who are sorry, no, this is
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: the wrong email. I jumped to the wrong email. Sorry, Steve,
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna read this one real quick. Though's a little
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: inside baseball. But he said, you guys have two new sets.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: I've seen the one year in now and the other
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: one with the table sort of look like the old setup.
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: I got to say that today's set reminds me of
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: sitting in the doctor's office trying to make conversations with
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: other patients.
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: I totally agree.
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: It's just as uncomfortable as that.
- 1:16:39Speaker 8: No.
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: Yeah, so we do have in our beautiful studio, which
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: I'm not no sarcasm at all. This behind us here,
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: the great, great job that that our staff did transforming
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: the state that it was badly needed because the old
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: the old studio is in disrepair. Shall we say?
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: I think he's just he just likes the blood. See
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: picture I do.
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: That's my favorite. iHeart Drew. You know you can see him.
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: Actually he's so. But there Paul, learn how learn how
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: things work on TV. It's a mirror image.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: There he is, there they are.
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: So we do have two different sets though. We have
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: this more casual podcast, look that Mike and I are
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: coming at you from today, and then when we do
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: like pre and post game, I think Evan and Alex
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: to Catch twenty two, a little bit more of a
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: desk and you know.
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: Yeah a little bit more serious like the desk, Like
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: the desk.
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: I like the desk too.
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: This is all right.
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: I feel like that's why I don't eat anymore.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: But we got a new table too.
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: Looks Paul's food hasn't been here for a while. If
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: you guys haven't noticed because you can't eat on this thing.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: That's been the biggest benefit of PSI though, Man, Carson,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Let's go to the TPX highline. Johnny in law. Are
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: things off? Johnny l in my old la stomping around? Johnny,
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: what's going on out there?
- 1:17:53Speaker 13: Hey, guys, how's it going?
- 1:17:55Speaker 7: Good?
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: Good?
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm I'm up in the All States?
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: Wow, beautiful?
- 1:18:03Speaker 14: Yeah yeah, wish Uh.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: Next time you're here, let's watch a game at Sonny McLean's.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: I've been there many times.
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: Be happy.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: And I probably won't be there for a game because
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: I'll be here, but but I'm sure i'll be back
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: there soon.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: Lots of good memory, PAULI, Uh, guys, I wanted to
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: come to Evan's defense real quick.
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: Okay, you know, Evan got.
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: Flaughtered for his his comment and uh, you know, the
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: whole the whole mutiny thing. First of all, I think
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: Evan does an amazing job. And I'm not even one
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: of the dorks who gets into the minutia he does.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: I just think overall, he's he's a really good writer,
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: he's a very he cares about football a lot. I
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: think he does a great job.
- 1:18:57Speaker 13: I I.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: Didn't think it was that big of a deal what
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: he said, it's sports, Like, who cares, you know, if
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: the people, if the Patriots have an issue with what
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: Lazarre said, my advice to them is stop stucking. You know,
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: like you you've you've stunk for the better part of
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: five or six years now, And if you want people
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: to say great things about you, then start playing better football,
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: Start hiring better coaches, start making better decisions, stop doing
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: stupid things like making defensive coordinators your offensive coordinator the
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: whole like you've stunk for a long time. If you
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: don't want reporters saying there's a mutiny in the locker room,
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: and if again, if Lazar said it, there's some truth
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: to it, then be better. Do better. You've you've stunk,
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: that's on you.
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I would just say, obviously, there's a
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: difference between the things that you're saying about the team's
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: lack of success that's subjectively fact, like they haven't been
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: successful since twenty one. Really, they haven't had a winning
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: season since twenty one, right, thanks Shannye. But that's not
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: the same as saying that the players no longer want
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: to play for the coach so obviously Evan, you know, apologized.
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: He apologized on the show yesterday and we talked about it.
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: He's not here to sort of add any more to that,
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: but I think we would all agree that, you know,
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: we all are in the opinion business. We all say
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: things sometimes and I've been in you know, probably not
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: in that hot of water, but we've all said and
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: done stupid things and sometimes you got to walk them back.
- 1:20:49Speaker 4: And Evan walked it back, and you know, we moved on.
- 1:20:53Speaker 4: But yeah, it was it was a little too far. Yeah,
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: I would say, you know, but you know, we did it,
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: we owned it.
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: And we move on.
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: I give Fred a lot of credit for those are
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: so much speculation about the taking down of the video,
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: and it's like, here it is Fred did it. Fred
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: told you he did it, and you know the reasoning why,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: and that he you know, thought it was a mistake.
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: So you know, we try to be transparent, but I
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: think we realize we're under a microscope here. And I mean, look,
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: I came from the outside and it's such a it's
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: such a unique position to be and I'd say somebody
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: at one point, I'm not sure who it was, it
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: might have been Andy described it as the team sees
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: you as the media, but the media sees you as
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: the team, and so you're kind of in this nether
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: world and you're you know, trying to be respectfully critical
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: of the team, and you know, but you're also trying
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: not to it's perfectly put, trying not to take a
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: blow towards to you know, a specific player, you know,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: or I mean I find that's for me, is the
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: easiest place to live is look at the third down defense.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: Don't look at player at at defensive end who got
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: blown up seventeen times, you know, those kinds of things.
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: But just I love that phrase that the team sees
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: us as the media, and the media sees us as
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: the team. The team is right, the media is wrong. Right, Like,
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: we're not the team. We work for the team, but
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: we're not part of the team. And there's a big difference.
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: We're hired to analyze the team just like everybody else.
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: Yeah, technically we work for Craft Sports and Entertainment. We
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: are not you know, I'm not a Patriots employee. I
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: don't I can't get into the locker room, you know,
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: or into the you know, into their facility, all those
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: kinds of things, So there is some nuance to it
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: that seems lost on some people in.
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: The like Listen, no one feels bad for us. We
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: have a very fun job, and you know, I wouldn't
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: I wouldn't have been here for twenty This is my
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: twenty sixth season. You wouldn't stay at something, you know,
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: that long if you didn't enjoy it. I enjoy it.
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: And yes, there's a fine line that we have to
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: walk at times, but you know, grow up.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it's part of your job, It's part of life.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: There are a lot harder jobs. They're a lot a
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: lot harder jobs.
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: I've said a million times at Beach working for a limit, Yeah, totally.
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: And I love this show, believe me.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: See what Dan thinks done in Daytona Beach. Dan, what's
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: the weather down there?
- 1:23:01Speaker 13: For you?
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:23:03Speaker 6: They Hey, ho, was are going Paul and induced it's
- 1:23:07Speaker 6: pretty crazy down here in Florida. It's uh, it's pouring
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: right now at the current moment, but it's supposed to
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: be getting worse tonight. I appreciate that Paul I was
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: wondering to Fred and the rest of the crew on
- 1:23:22Speaker 6: and Evan to get my take on this, but it's
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: kind of going to be beaten a dead horse again.
- 1:23:28Speaker 6: But I think I'm happy to see may play. That's
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: that's awesome. But at this point, I mean it was getting,
- 1:23:35Speaker 6: you know, pretty boring and just it was it just
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: was unwatchable, you know, with the whole Uh, Jakobe Brissett
- 1:23:42Speaker 6: and just Alex n Felton, I've been greative and I've
- 1:23:46Speaker 6: been watching You've been watching your guys to show, Paul, uh,
- 1:23:50Speaker 6: you know, Felgard Masks and ninety eight point five, and
- 1:23:54Speaker 6: they were talking about how they think Alex Vnfelt needs
- 1:23:57Speaker 6: to go, and I gotta agree with him. I think
- 1:23:59Speaker 6: he's He's called a very vanilla. It almost looks like
- 1:24:03Speaker 6: a preseason game every time I watched it. So I
- 1:24:06Speaker 6: don't know, maybe Mayo needs to move on or I
- 1:24:10Speaker 6: don't know what he needs to do, but I think
- 1:24:12Speaker 6: that he needs to bring a I think a younger,
- 1:24:15Speaker 6: more innovative like a Ben Johnson or Bobby Slower from
- 1:24:19Speaker 6: the Sexton then too, not them, but somebody liked them
- 1:24:23Speaker 6: that's young and innovative, that can run still run the
- 1:24:26Speaker 6: wise zone scheme that they want to run, or maybe
- 1:24:29Speaker 6: bring in Josh McDaniels back. I don't know. I think
- 1:24:32Speaker 6: Josh would be perfect for May. To be honest, it'd
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: be he can kind of run a similar offense to
- 1:24:37Speaker 6: what Drake ran and didn't see, you know, a little
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: bit more shotgun, and you know, it'd be more pressure
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: on him, but he'd have to learn the system. But
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: I think May smart enough to handle that. But none
- 1:24:48Speaker 6: of that can happen unless they they go out. My
- 1:24:50Speaker 6: last thing is unless they go out and they build
- 1:24:52Speaker 6: an offensive line. I think as you look back in history,
- 1:24:55Speaker 6: the main problem in the elephant in the room of
- 1:24:57Speaker 6: the Patriots. They don't have a great office line. It's
- 1:24:59Speaker 6: a and they'll never be good until they actually fully
- 1:25:04Speaker 6: invest into the line. And I think what they need
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: to do next year is use most of their draft
- 1:25:10Speaker 6: capital to go after offensive line. I know that doesn't
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: sound faun or entertaining the people, but you can't do
- 1:25:15Speaker 6: anything on offense unless you have solid tackles and solid
- 1:25:17Speaker 6: guards and a good center. I don't see David Andrews
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: coming back anytime soon, and in my honest opinion, I
- 1:25:24Speaker 6: think David Andrews is probably going to hang it up
- 1:25:26Speaker 6: after this year. I've been watching this podcast and I
- 1:25:30Speaker 6: just I don't. I don't know if he's gonna come back.
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: So I think they need to go after a center.
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: They need to go get guards, and they need to
- 1:25:36Speaker 6: get tackles.
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I would agree with that. I mean,
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: I think that Andrews sounded like you want to at
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: least give it a try. Yeah, but yeah, they need
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: They need to fix their offensive line. There's there's no secret.
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: And I think Dan like, to me, that's why I
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: don't really focus as much on the coaching mic is
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: because I feel like they're lacking in the personnel area
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: on offense almost across the board. They have some I'm
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: not telling you that every player can't play like they have.
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: Some players, you know, you know, Douglas and Polk, you know,
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: look like they can make some plays for you. I
- 1:26:09Speaker 4: like the idea that going to be back maybe to
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: look a little bit better, they needed an alpha. They
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: need a big receiver, a big you know, I don't
- 1:26:15Speaker 4: mean size wise, I just mean a big target that
- 1:26:19Speaker 4: will occupy the other team's focus and be able to
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: make plays because he's better, you know, And they got
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: to fix the offensive line obviously outside speed.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: To me is it's just that's what they're crying for
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: and you know, you had that element. I think it
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: maybe makes some of those other guys better. But I
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: agree with his take on Andrews though, based on what
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: he said, I mean, it sounds dicey.
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: If I don't think it's I don't think it's any
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: I think, how did he put it? Like doing it
- 1:26:44Speaker 4: this way it gives me the best chance, the chance
- 1:26:47Speaker 4: to be able to continue my career. But I think
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: that's his like desire just to come back for another year.
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: And then they just signed to the Hainsworth Sincere Hainesworth.
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: Just gonna say it's a great name.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: Sincere excuse me, geez made me cough, but not not
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: related to Albert hands or I'm kissing. But you know
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: they have the guy in the practice squad as well,
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: So I mean they've got a couple of centers. I
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: mean it seems like it's it's on their mind. That's
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: a really important position too. And you know it made
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: me think too, we're talking about going back to Josh.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: I mean that's a huge jump. Josh wants to put
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: it all in the quarterback. He wants a quarterback to everything.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: I'm just saying from a schematic standpoint, that's a heavy lift.
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: But by the same token, there's a lot more on
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: the center in this offense. So that's a very important
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: position too, So they need to figure that out long term.
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: I mean, I think in a perfect world, you're I
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: don't know if Kiden Wallace can come back, but Kiden
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: Wallace and when you and one of these guys, whether
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: it's City so Leyden Robinson, even Cold strange, if one
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: of those guys can be an okay left card, you know,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: maybe it's not we have to dedicate five draft picks
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: to because you've got needs on defense too. You're gonna
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: have needs on that side of the ball. I hate
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: to tell everybody, but you're you're gonna have to figure
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: out the edge I mean, and I mean those and
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: those are that, you know, the sides of the defense
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: I mean and throw in peppers. We don't know what
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: his future could be. I mean, he might be done,
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: like we might have to, you know, have another starting safety,
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: depending on how you feel about Martine Apu as well.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: So you know, there's there's a lot, a lot of questions,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: but hopefully over these last twelve games we can get
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: you know, at least a couple guys to step up
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: and say, you know, look, I feel really good about it.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: I mean, this is probably the most unlikely one. Caden
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: Wallace at right tackle. I don't even know if he's
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: going to be back, but you know, just taking a
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: couple things off the plate of we have to check
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: this Bux and this bucks and this bus, you know,
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: feel good about a couple things. I mean, you mentioned
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: Polkin and and Pop Like I like those guys. I mean,
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: I don't think alone they're able to do it. They're
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: not enough for sure, but like I said, at the top,
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: once you get going, maybe they're there. They look a
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: little bit better with that.
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: I had a guy, you know, if you could add
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: you know, a free agent addition, one of the top
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: flight guys, you know, like they tried with Ayuk. You know,
- 1:28:50Speaker 4: I think those other guys would look a little bit better. Yeah,
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: that's what.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: You're hoping for, drawing some attention away from them.
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: And if it's T Higgins or someone I know, like
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: you know, Matt, you know, our our home for pre
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: and post game. He doesn't like T Higgins as much
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: as I do, but I kind of get the impression
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: from listening to Matt a little bit the last few
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: and don't really like a whole lot, Like, you know,
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: no one's really any good, you know, so I just
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: feel like they're going to have to figure out somebody
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: that they think is worthy of that and add him
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: to the list, because it can't be these are the
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: best guys you have. That's not good enough. Maybe it's
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: it's not fair to them, it's not fair to to
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: Mario Douglas that, you know, sort of a smaller slot
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: receiver is the best you have right now.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: If you need more than that, yeah, look at Jahim
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: Bell too. I mean I think Austin Hooper has been okay, well,
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: you know a little more athleticism. I mean, you always
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: Paul bring up David Nijoku from Cleveland and how successful
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: he was in this offense. To really have, you know,
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: no disrespect to Hunter Henry. I mean, I think he's
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: a reliable, you know, steady kind of a guy, but
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: I don't think he's really like a game changer, you know,
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: real problem in the middle of the field. And I'm
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: intrigued by Jahim. We didn't see a lot of him
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: this summer, but I did see him run pretty well
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: and That's like one thing that I feel if you
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: really got a you know, a tight end that can
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: threat and the seam a little bit more. I think,
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: you know, Hunter, Henry, great, find the soft spot in
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: the zone first down, you know, not a run after
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: threat or run after your catch threat though, but you're.
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: Gonna have these guys back the hole. That's another one
- 1:30:19Speaker 4: put on the list.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: Yeah, tight end.
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: Yeah, but like this holes, like even if Bell like
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: panned out to be something like, you still need tight ends.
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: How long do you think Henry and Hooper are going
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: to be.
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: I mean, Hope's just a one year deal too, so
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: I mean he's he's going to be gone. But maybe
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: that opens up the opportunity for Bell next year. And
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: I mean it sure seems like this regime is very
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: invested in playing their draft picks. Whereas I don't know,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: Bill would always say, once you get here, everybody's here.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: It doesn't matter where you were drafted, how big your
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: contract is. But I think that this regime maybe takes
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: just a little bit more, like it puts a little
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: bit more on the guys that they draft and said, look,
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: even if these guys maybe don't burst out of the
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: gate on fire. We need to get them snaps, we
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: need to get them involved. We need to know what
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: they can do, like a Marcel's Dial for example, who
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: didn't think blew up anything. You know, was kind of
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: marginally involved on defense this winter but in the summer,
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: but was able to get in there and made the
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: team and you know now is playing special teams. But
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: you know, did he really is he really better than
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: some of those others. I don't know how they go.
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: I would counter with that if it weren't so, you know,
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: we got other things on it, you know, like's Javon
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: Baker jahem bell actively yeah, right right, that's what Bill
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: would do.
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true. Javon Baker is another one though, like
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: maybe it starts to click for him in the offseason
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: and you know he starts to come back and you know.
- 1:31:36Speaker 4: Offers some some juice.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: But but first we've got to read Paul that I'm
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: going to do right now. For Bob's I had to
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: get figure out this first part. The long Falladay weekend, Oh,

- 1:32:02Speaker 1: to dream about the next game. When you shop the

- 1:32:06Speaker 1: and all for way less than the competition. So stop
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: in and see how much you can save when you go.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: When you Dare to Compare with Bob's Discount Furniture, the
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: official furniture store of the New England Patriots. And we're
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: expecting Evan. We'll be back from practice here. And I
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: don't know if there's a new song. Somebody was teasing
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: maybe that's a locker room one, but yeah, oh is
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: it really did? Did did Jill come through a song?
- 1:32:28Speaker 8: Oh?
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: It's a real song?
- 1:32:29Speaker 7: All right?
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: Great, that's that's nice. I'm I'm excited, but I won't
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: be able to hear it today. Is I didn't go
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: to locker right? All right? Good, good, fair enough.
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: I'm not jealous at all.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: You got no songs?
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: Pot, I don't you get a song? I don't need
- 1:32:41Speaker 4: a get them in ai.
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: I need a car put in you.
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: Work out a car deal for me because.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Put in things about diet, PEPSI, car inspection.
- 1:32:50Speaker 4: No, I just need a car. I don't need any song.
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: Northeastern sports in general, anything else. Those are your biggest hits.
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: This is where you said, didn't you go to be you?
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: I won't bring that up.
- 1:33:04Speaker 4: That's beautiful. By the way, so my son tells me.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: We're going around the world to Greece and Alex Hay else.
- 1:33:13Speaker 15: Hey, guys, can hear me? How's it going?
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: All right?
- 1:33:18Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: Okay, fine, what's your question?
- 1:33:24Speaker 15: I had a quick question. I just wanted to get
- 1:33:27Speaker 15: your guys' take on on something other than Drake May.
- 1:33:31Speaker 15: I know the focus is on May obviously. You know
- 1:33:34Speaker 15: May is gonna grow there, He's gonna play. He's either
- 1:33:36Speaker 15: going to be good or you know, he's going to
- 1:33:38Speaker 15: struggle in the beginning. My my concern, honestly the last
- 1:33:42Speaker 15: few games has been the coaching a little bit. And
- 1:33:44Speaker 15: I know it's in new regime and I know this
- 1:33:46Speaker 15: roster isn't up to part, but there's just a lot
- 1:33:50Speaker 15: of decision making in games, a lot of this coaching
- 1:33:53Speaker 15: problems I've seen. And my question to you guys is
- 1:33:56Speaker 15: do you view the coaching separately from Drake May's performance? So,
- 1:34:01Speaker 15: regardless of how they plays, are you still going to
- 1:34:03Speaker 15: be looking at this coaching stass and giving them, giving
- 1:34:05Speaker 15: them a pass and going, you know, it's year one,
- 1:34:08Speaker 15: or are you guys going to be saying if May
- 1:34:10Speaker 15: plays well or bad kind of irregardless, you know that
- 1:34:13Speaker 15: they didn't perform well this year. So I just wanted
- 1:34:15Speaker 15: to get your guys' take on that and how you
- 1:34:17Speaker 15: view those two different entities that sort of thing.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that's good question. It's a really good question. I mean,
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: I think it relates into what you know, we're kind
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: of saying, like what's reasonable with May and how does
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: it reflect on the coaching staff? And I would agree
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: with the point. I think some of the stuff that situationally,
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: play calling, you know, those kind of things need to
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: get better. And I think willing to offer a little
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: bit of you know, grace at the at the beginning
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: stages for a whole new coaching staff, a lot of guys,
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: a lot of different pieces from different areas kind of
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: all brought together. But I think it's a it's an
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: excellent point. There's more than just May throwing a.
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: Couple of deep balls, and that's say. But I agree
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: with you, Mike, and I would say that I don't
- 1:34:54Speaker 4: think that we're giving the coaches a pass because they're
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: in their first year. I think, you know, when you
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: sort of see some mistakes, you can say, well, yeah,
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: those are mistakes. You know, first time coach, he's going
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: to learn from them. But when you see the same
- 1:35:07Speaker 4: mistakes get repeated a couple of weeks later, like the
- 1:35:10Speaker 4: the sequence at the end of the half that we
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: talked about, that's cause for concern, you know. And I'm
- 1:35:17Speaker 4: not taking it off the coaches because they don't have
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: what I would consider, you know, elite talent across the board.
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: But I'm also not putting it all on, you know,
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: the players if I don't think they're always being put
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: in the right positions to succeed. So it's one of
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: those kind of feel things like I don't think they
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: were put in the best particular spot at the end
- 1:35:37Speaker 4: of the first half against Seattle and against Miami, Like
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: I think that was a coaching issue. I don't blame
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: the coaches for the fact that they can't figure out
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: a way to score more points than they have because
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: I think that's a player issue more than the play
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: calling that has been getting so much of the heat
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: right now. So it's hard, but it is a good
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: question that Alex brings up. It's I think everything should
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: be a fit evaluated, Like you should be able to
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: look at it and say, well, you know what, I thought,
- 1:36:03Speaker 4: they had a really good game plan this week. You know,
- 1:36:05Speaker 4: it worked really well early in the game. The other
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: team sort of figured it out, adjusted and they were
- 1:36:09Speaker 4: able to shut you down.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you should be able to see that. Yeah, And
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: I mean at her point you said this before of
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: you brought up past regime, would be able to adjust,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: you know, or you'd I like, And it's funny when
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: you brought it up too, because it's so struck home
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: for me. It was kind of like one of my
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: credos when I was a blogger of just like, don't
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: overreact to the first drift. Don't overreact to it good
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: or bad. Like, don't overreact because even if they picked
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: their way down the field and you know, have a
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: nice drive score, you know, hopefully a touchdown off in
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: the Patriots, would you know, let them go eighty eighty
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: yards and then they'd stop them and force a field goal,
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: But you know, what are those adjustments that they were
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: able to make in game and you know now we're
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: seeing something different. I'd also just point out stuff like
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: twelve men on the field. Yeah, you know, sideline communication
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: kind of stuff, which I don't think has been a
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: huge problem like this early part. But I mean last
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: year was a problem too.
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: Oh, no problem the last couple of years ago. Check
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: the substitutions on defense were a huge problem. Hasn't really
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: been a problem, Yeah, I don't think so fun that
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: was a special team's one. Yeah, it's a special teams issue,
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: but I don't think that's been as big a problem
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: in the five games as it was like the last
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: two years as an example. So yeah, all those kinds
- 1:37:16Speaker 4: of things we're trying to watch and evaluate, you get
- 1:37:19Speaker 4: to learn from them.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: Do you know? Quite a few emails here that I appreciate,
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: which is like from Wisconsin just saying I've noticed that
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: a lot of people who are afraid of breaking may
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: are the same people who thought Mac was going to
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: be great, which is say they aren't ball knowers. Let's
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: go let the drake may excuse me rap begin, but
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: there are a lot of emails that I think echoing
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: what we talked of, like people are just afraid he's
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: gonna get hurt, Like they're afraid to play him against
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: the defense that you think has an overwhelming amount of
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: pass rush that they're not going to be able to start.
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: I would just say to those people, like I'm always
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: concerned that players are going to get hurt, But like,
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: what's the It's not the end of the world if
- 1:37:59Speaker 4: a guy gets hurt. Yeah, it's just not like if
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: you have Super Bowl aspirations and your quarterback gets hurt,
- 1:38:05Speaker 4: that's that's way different. But I just don't think that
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: that necessarily ends the Drake May era if he plays,
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: even if he got hurt Sunday, Like that would suck
- 1:38:18Speaker 4: because it would suck because we don't get a chance
- 1:38:21Speaker 4: to watch him. But I don't think that it ends
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: the career of Drake May. Like he can rehab and
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: come back next year and be the starter and we'll
- 1:38:31Speaker 4: figure it out.
- 1:38:32Speaker 6: But like.
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: You can just not play him and not get any
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: development too, what's the like Like that to me is
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: the difference, Like what so if he if he plays
- 1:38:42Speaker 4: and gets hurt and he doesn't play the rest of
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: the way, what's the difference if he doesn't play the
- 1:38:45Speaker 4: rest of the way like other than you know, easy
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: for me to say, other than the pain that Drake
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: may is suffering from, or whatever the injury happens to be.
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: I just like I said, I put it out there.
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: Can someone give me an example of a career ending
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: injury on a quarterback who played too soon?
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: You know, David from Madrid echoes that a little bit.
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: The taking scare getting hurt versus good team doesn't make sense.
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: He can equally get hurt against a bad defense. Last Sunday,
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: the Dolphins didn't have any top brass rushers and Levertt
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: somehow gave up ten pressures. You just have to play
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: the kid and roll the dice. Even the best old
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: lines give up hits every week. I mean I've set
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: up before I point to eight where no Brady. I
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: mean what first quarter of the game. I mean Bernard
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: Pollard dives into his knee and you know it's all
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: It's all over for that year. So it can it
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: can happen even to those kind of teams too. I
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: agree though, and I just I just hope he can
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: do enough to kind of stem the tide because been
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: through a lot. We've been through a lot the last
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: couple of years. We changed everything this offseason, you know,
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: and you had some good energy going through camp, and
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: you know that's more the energy the unknown, because you
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: just haven't really seen good or bad yet. But then
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: it's like injuries and you know, off the field stuff,
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: and you know you've lost all the captains, and you know,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: and and and Jakobe just can't really seem to get
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: anything going, and you know, it's just it's been a
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: really trying try and start on.
- 1:40:07Speaker 4: A number of a lot of unforeseen things like they
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: you know, Jeri keeps saying, we kind of knew that
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: we were gonna have some bumps along the way, but
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: I don't think anybody could have foreseen the amount of adversity.
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: And I'm not talking about injuries. Everybody has injuries, but
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: it's it's like the types of you know, blood cloths,
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: losing your you're arguably your best player to blood clots
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: before training camp really even starts like that's different than jeez,
- 1:40:34Speaker 4: you know, we lost Tour to a concussion. Devastating from Miami.
- 1:40:38Speaker 4: I'm not making light of it, but devastating what happened.
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: Like he was on the field and he got hit
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: and he and he's had some history and he got concussed,
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: you know, And it's like you said, it's all your captains, Like,
- 1:40:52Speaker 4: I don't know. I think most teams probably feel like,
- 1:40:55Speaker 4: you know, the leadership of your team is pretty important.
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: And to lose Dugger and Pappers and you know, for
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: different reasons, and then you know Andrews and all the
- 1:41:05Speaker 4: you know, Bentley, all those key guys. That's that's like
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: I understand teams have as many and more injuries, but
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: those are really specific injuries that really hurt right down
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: the middle, like what supposed to be like the strength
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: of your team center, inside, linebacker, safeties.
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: Right in the middle, and a lot of coaches will
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: tell you build from the middle out. But we're excited
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: here on PP and the deuce to be joined by Evan.
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: Lazar has turned has turned all right, Evan's back. In practice,
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: I'll be playing the part of Frank Kersch here.
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: Asking Evan smells like outside. You smell like the fall.
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: It's like a fault, like no, no, no, no, you
- 1:41:54Speaker 4: smell like you just came in from outdoors, like.
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: Beach, like beach. Follow Well, what were you doing out there.
- 1:42:06Speaker 18: I was rolling around in the leaves like I was
- 1:42:09Speaker 18: eight years old.
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: No, uh, this is weird. This is I I don't
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: even know what sorry as you weird question. So, Evan,
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: what did you see out there?
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: Uh?
- 1:42:18Speaker 18: So, some good news, some bad news for the Patriots
- 1:42:22Speaker 18: at practice. I'll start with the bad. No, Kyle Dugar
- 1:42:26Speaker 18: still he still thought that was going to be the
- 1:42:28Speaker 18: good He's still not out there. And no Remondre Stevenson
- 1:42:33Speaker 18: who left Sunday's game with a helmet to the calf
- 1:42:37Speaker 18: like a s I said calf in post game, and
- 1:42:41Speaker 18: so he's not out there today for the Patriots at practice.
- 1:42:46Speaker 18: The good news is that the offensive line seems like
- 1:42:49Speaker 18: it made it through healthy, so maybe we'll get some
- 1:42:52Speaker 18: continuity up front on the offensive line. And the really
- 1:42:55Speaker 18: good news is that Drake May has taking all the
- 1:42:58Speaker 18: first team.
- 1:42:58Speaker 4: Round surprised that he's any of the other and that
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: was a really good news.
- 1:43:03Speaker 18: But uh, you know, some some things that maybe we'll
- 1:43:06Speaker 18: all share off the air that I don't know if okay,
- 1:43:09Speaker 18: you know right now I'm trying to Yeah, but some
- 1:43:14Speaker 18: interesting things happened.
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: Well, what would you say was the move that's a
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: little early finish sorry, yeah, I mean really passed as
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: I am.
- 1:43:23Speaker 18: Pads on pads on Wednesday seems to be the theme
- 1:43:28Speaker 18: under Mayo. It seems like that's the way that's going
- 1:43:31Speaker 18: to be for the foreseeable future. Maybe they start winning
- 1:43:34Speaker 18: some games, maybe he gives them, gives them a reprieve.
- 1:43:36Speaker 18: But right now, pads on Wednesday is an automatic. It's
- 1:43:39Speaker 18: so far. And the mood was, I mean, this media contingent.
- 1:43:44Speaker 18: I don't know if you guys already talked about this,
- 1:43:46Speaker 18: but this was like Brady Day level people. There was
- 1:43:50Speaker 18: a lot of today, a lot of people, good crowd,
- 1:43:53Speaker 18: good crowd, out of practice, nice weather.
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: So it was it was an interesting day. So there
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: was no grousing. No there there is no grousing at all. No,
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: there is no grousing at all.
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: This was all good grousing, placement.
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: Happy. We were looking for all the big jay journalists
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: who come down like on these days and that's the
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: hard questions, but there weren't any of those.
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: It was just they also have the voice.
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: Yeah, hi, Jerrod Rush in the back.
- 1:44:15Speaker 4: Uh, what would you say to the fans that demands
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: that Jacoby Brissetts, it remains the starter.
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: That's good Paul got around the blox a few times. Evan,
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: I was saving this email for when you got in.
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: So this is from David Hingham, I said over the
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: past this is the first time, longtime listener, first time emailer,
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: I said. Over the past few years, Fred has made
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: a point of calling out how balance and fair you
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: collectively are in your approach to covering the team. I
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: agree this recent recent Evans situation and how you've all
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: responded the ups and downs is a cost of doing business.
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: You all have the best intentions. There's no better way
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: to honor Evan and show my support than buying you
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: all lunch so you can take a break from when
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: pull Paul's food gets there.
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: WHOA wow?
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: So theres Matt write that down Jersey in order of yes,
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: I appreciate, So Evan you were there. Just what do
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: you think of the of the press conference today with
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: with Mayo and Drake.
- 1:45:12Speaker 18: Yeah, for that matter, don't forget about your shirt.
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: I would say.
- 1:45:16Speaker 18: The biggest thing that I keep hearing about this was
- 1:45:21Speaker 18: that knee jerk reaction like this wasn't the plan. They're
- 1:45:26Speaker 18: only doing this because they're one and four and there's
- 1:45:29Speaker 18: some bad publicity around the team and they're just trying to,
- 1:45:33Speaker 18: you know, get some some juices, you know, some marketing
- 1:45:36Speaker 18: juices out of it. And I gotta be honest, I
- 1:45:39Speaker 18: just I don't really see it that way, and I
- 1:45:42Speaker 18: don't think that's what Grod Mayo said either. And I
- 1:45:45Speaker 18: think a lot of people to me are kind of
- 1:45:46Speaker 18: speaking out of both sides of their mouths. Because the
- 1:45:49Speaker 18: games go on and then on Mondays, all I hear
- 1:45:53Speaker 18: on Paul's shows for eight straight hours is how awful
- 1:45:56Speaker 18: the team is and how Girod doesn't know what he's doing,
- 1:45:58Speaker 18: and they have no offer offence and the AVP stinks
- 1:46:01Speaker 18: and the passing offense stinks, and now we're gonna put
- 1:46:04Speaker 18: the you know, put Drake may in there to try
- 1:46:06Speaker 18: to make all of that better. And now that's the
- 1:46:09Speaker 18: wrong move too. So it's like the guy can't win,
- 1:46:12Speaker 18: Like if he doesn't play Drake may then he gets
- 1:46:15Speaker 18: killed every week because they're not playing well on Sundays
- 1:46:17Speaker 18: and they're losing games and they're not scoring any points.
- 1:46:20Speaker 18: If he does play Drake May, well, you can't you
- 1:46:22Speaker 18: can't put him into this situation. This is what are
- 1:46:25Speaker 18: they doing.
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: I had that rant in the first ten minutes. I
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: was like, you know, what are they waiting for? What
- 1:46:29Speaker 4: are they doing? They can't move, they can't move the ball,
- 1:46:32Speaker 4: they have no offense. Just put May in there. Drake
- 1:46:35Speaker 4: May is the starting quarterback? What happened to the plan?
- 1:46:39Speaker 10: Like?
- 1:46:39Speaker 4: Why are we rushing it? Why against Houston? He's gonna
- 1:46:41Speaker 4: get hurt? Like and I don't know how they could win.
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: I really don't know how they can win this one.
- 1:46:45Speaker 4: There's no perfect time to make this move right.
- 1:46:48Speaker 18: And the other thing you just mentioned Houston. I'm hearing
- 1:46:51Speaker 18: so much about how terrible of a matchup this is
- 1:46:55Speaker 18: against Houston. If Drake May gets broken because of one game,
- 1:47:01Speaker 18: his very first start in his NFL career, and he's
- 1:47:04Speaker 18: already a lost cause because he saw a good pass
- 1:47:07Speaker 18: rush in his open his first.
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: Guy had a great point about how he thinks Houston
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: could be a really good game to get under his belt.
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: Let Mike was just saying, this is a team that
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: is going to probably be a contender in the FCV.
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: While if you're gonna if you're serious about getting winning
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: in the playoffs, getting in the super Bowl, this is
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: a team you're gonna have to probably be beat it.
- 1:47:25Speaker 4: Same and wouldn't that be like beneficial if this guy
- 1:47:29Speaker 4: that you want to put you a quarterback for the
- 1:47:31Speaker 4: next ten years, the Houston Texans more than likely going
- 1:47:35Speaker 4: to be a player in the AFC for I don't know,
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: let's just say five years. Yeah, right, what's wrong with that?
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: What's wrong with that is Bob I.
- 1:47:43Speaker 18: Used to say, Well, it's just so we all are
- 1:47:45Speaker 18: in agreement that last week against Miami would have been
- 1:47:48Speaker 18: fine for him to play his first game problem, which
- 1:47:52Speaker 18: means that he was going to play Houston this week,
- 1:47:54Speaker 18: right and ready then and then we're all.
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: It would have been his second game under his belt, right.
- 1:47:59Speaker 18: And then we all are in agreement that next week
- 1:48:01Speaker 18: against Jacksonville would be okay too, because you know they
- 1:48:03Speaker 18: it's in London, and they're not a good defense, and this,
- 1:48:06Speaker 18: that and the other thing. So what you're really whittling
- 1:48:08Speaker 18: it down to is that one game against the Texans
- 1:48:13Speaker 18: is going to derail his entire NFL career. And if
- 1:48:16Speaker 18: that's the case, then he's not the guy. Like if
- 1:48:18Speaker 18: he gets broken from one game, then you're in. Then
- 1:48:21Speaker 18: you didn't draft the game, Yeah, And I just kind
- 1:48:24Speaker 18: of that's just frustrating because, like you know, I can't win.
- 1:48:28Speaker 7: You can't win.
- 1:48:29Speaker 18: And I thought what he said today about look at
- 1:48:34Speaker 18: it's a results based business. Basically he said, we're in
- 1:48:37Speaker 18: a winning league and right now we're one and four,
- 1:48:41Speaker 18: and the guys in the locker room.
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: Want to win.
- 1:48:44Speaker 4: And that was basically the crux of what I was trying.
- 1:48:47Speaker 18: To say last week before I've lost my mind, And
- 1:48:51Speaker 18: that's exactly what I was getting at, was that at
- 1:48:55Speaker 18: some point, the eye and the sky don't lie, like
- 1:48:58Speaker 18: whether it's on the practice field or it's in the
- 1:49:00Speaker 18: games on Sundays. You can't go in there with the
- 1:49:03Speaker 18: straight face and then continue to tell people that this
- 1:49:07Speaker 18: that Jacoby resect gives you the best chance to win
- 1:49:10Speaker 18: when everybody behind the scenes knows what's happening at practice
- 1:49:13Speaker 18: and knows what's happening in the games. At some point,
- 1:49:17Speaker 18: like Gerrodmeo said, Drake May gives us the best chance
- 1:49:20Speaker 18: to win.
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: And that point is now what was going on in
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: the locker room. I didn't get in there. Who who
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: got interviewed?
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: Yeah, there was a lot.
- 1:49:27Speaker 18: There was a lot of interviews obviously on the offensive
- 1:49:30Speaker 18: side of the ball, as you could imagine, and uh,
- 1:49:32Speaker 18: you know, it was. I thought it was the same.
- 1:49:36Speaker 18: I'm trying not to be too careful about, you know,
- 1:49:38Speaker 18: my opinions on locker rooms right now, but I thought
- 1:49:42Speaker 18: it was all positive messaging coming out of the locker
- 1:49:46Speaker 18: room in respect to both quarterbacks. You know, if they
- 1:49:49Speaker 18: had stuck with Brissette, it seems like the guys would
- 1:49:51Speaker 18: have been behind that. Yeah, but they are also excited
- 1:49:55Speaker 18: about what's to come.
- 1:49:55Speaker 4: With uh Jacoby around it all. He was did he speak? No, No,
- 1:50:00Speaker 4: he did not. He did not.
- 1:50:01Speaker 18: But you know, one of the things I think that
- 1:50:03Speaker 18: really stands classy guy, really classy guy. And one of
- 1:50:07Speaker 18: the things that stands out to me about him is
- 1:50:09Speaker 18: that it seems as though just being out of practice
- 1:50:11Speaker 18: briefly like his role as mentor, he has not stopped
- 1:50:16Speaker 18: fulfilling that role.
- 1:50:17Speaker 4: Yeah, certainly, Drake said that. Yeah.
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: Do you think there's impressive relief a little bit for
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissette of just like getting your doors beaten in
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: for five straight weeks and being like, oh God, thank god,
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: I can just have a weekly take to gather myself.
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: You know, I think he wants to play.
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: Probably that's how the nflers are question here from Cole
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: on Cape Cod. Uh, is this not what we expected
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: the season to be. The team is super young, a
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: whole new staff, tons of adversity. Everyone knew this season
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: from the beginning was not going to be a deep
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: playoff run, even playoff team. I think we need to
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: spin the light here and see see it in the
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: aspect of this team is super young. They're gaining invaluable
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: experience and setting a foundation for the future. All of
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: our captains are down, Okay, cool, so who steps up?
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: There's so much opportunity for the young guys and staff
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: that we have to learn and set a foundation for
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: the future. Face the adversity now and build a team
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: for the future. I mean, I kind of generally agree,
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: but it's it's been a lot.
- 1:51:06Speaker 4: It's been like more than I even expected of. I
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: couldn't argue with any of the facts that he just
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: put forth. I just think you're glossing over, like, yeah,
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: I think we all kind of expected to not be good.
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: Did you expect him not to be able to score
- 1:51:20Speaker 4: at all?
- 1:51:21Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: You know, And yeah I get it. They they got younger.
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: They because they were one of the oldest teams in
- 1:51:28Speaker 4: the league. You know, not every year of the last
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: five years, but among the last five years, and they
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: over they overturned some of that and they got a
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: little bit younger. They kept the entire draft class. But
- 1:51:41Speaker 4: how many of those guys are really playing important roles?
- 1:51:44Speaker 4: You know, we talked about some of those guys toward
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: the bottom, you know, Polkis and now May's in there,
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: Wallace and rob and Robinson's been a starter for you.
- 1:51:54Speaker 4: You know, Wallace is hurt, he's not playing, Baker's inactive
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: every week, Bell's in active most weeks, dials a special
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: team or so like, you're not getting a tremendous amount
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: out of those young guys, you know, the rookies, I
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: should say, not the young you know, like Mapu came in,
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: second year guy, he's a young guy. Played the whole
- 1:52:12Speaker 4: game the other day.
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: So Pettis played a little bit too. I mean he got,
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: you know, some opportunities. That's just what I would hope
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: is that some of these guys take advantage of those
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: and and like to the emailer's point, take advantage blossom
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, you know, you weren't expecting
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: del Pettis to maybe be that third safety, but you know,
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: maybe there's something there I don't I'm just don't using
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: them as well.
- 1:52:30Speaker 18: I feel like that email is z accurate now, like,
- 1:52:33Speaker 18: now that Drake May is playing, I'm still not expecting
- 1:52:36Speaker 18: them to all of a sudden go on a ten
- 1:52:38Speaker 18: game winning streak and made the playoffs. So now we
- 1:52:41Speaker 18: can sort of grade it out as is their progress,
- 1:52:44Speaker 18: is there upward trajectory to the offense and to his
- 1:52:48Speaker 18: play and all that kind of stuff, and not necessarily
- 1:52:50Speaker 18: harp so much on wins and losses. I think what
- 1:52:53Speaker 18: was going on in the first five games is just
- 1:52:55Speaker 18: that it was like a road to nowhere. You know,
- 1:52:58Speaker 18: they weren't playing Drake, they weren't scoring on offense, they
- 1:53:01Speaker 18: weren't competitive in a lot of these games.
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: If it's the same exact game Sunday, you'll feel better, Yeah, right,
- 1:53:08Speaker 4: even if they like if they lose fifteen to ten,
- 1:53:11Speaker 4: but you know you'd feel better about it.
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so long a stream doesn't get hurt.
- 1:53:16Speaker 4: Right, as long as he played and you got hurt
- 1:53:18Speaker 4: because I love the road to nowhere. Comment like, if
- 1:53:22Speaker 4: it's a road to nowhere, at least you're getting your
- 1:53:24Speaker 4: quarterback his feet. Well, like, if we're not going to
- 1:53:26Speaker 4: move the ball, then why not play the rookie quarterback?
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: You know, and it's like every single rep hass value,
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: like every single play has some kind of value to
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: him of experience or you know, just playing against these defenses,
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: playing in different locations. I mean, that's that's the biggest thing.
- 1:53:41Speaker 4: For me is just you know, the rookies.
- 1:53:43Speaker 18: I mean, there's just so much talk about like the
- 1:53:46Speaker 18: why now and what's what's the point in such a
- 1:53:50Speaker 18: terrible situation. They have one hundred and nineteen passing yards
- 1:53:54Speaker 18: a game through five weeks. One hundred and nineteen like that's.
- 1:53:59Speaker 4: You know, that ranks my probably close to the bottom
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: of the thirty two. That's not NFL offense.
- 1:54:04Speaker 18: Yeah, so when you look at some of these other
- 1:54:06Speaker 18: players that are around the quarterback, you can't go through
- 1:54:11Speaker 18: an entire season like that.
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: That's fair, You really just can't. Christ new Hampshire says
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: the sickle on me wants the Jets to hire Bill.
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: The chaos that would erupt would be wildly entertaining. The
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: Bill simps versus the Bill haters would be so much.
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: Football is about entertainment. Let us enjoy ourselves. Chaos is fun.
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: I kind of agree I don't think Bill simps the Billuminati.
- 1:54:33Speaker 4: The Billuminati, that's my that's my new one.
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: The bill Uminati. Yeah, they're God bless them though. I
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: mean that's you know, it's a new faction. They just
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: formed in this past year. You know, you didn't really
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: hear much from those guys. I mean, I guess you did.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: They were more though the anti media defend the Wall,
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: the wall anti media against you know them saying that
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: they didn't like Bill's press conferences and now it's you know,
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: everything was was better last year, which I take issue
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: with Bridge. Uh did you hear this one from Spi
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: and Fresno? Obviously, psych for the Drake, a lot is
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: on the kids shoulders. Ideally, Mayo at Hall would have
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: succeeded better in establishing a foundation for success, but they haven't.
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: Are you concerned that Mayo's regime hasn't been very successful
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: so far? Or maybe to ask it differently, given what
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: you've seen thus far, how many games will you give
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: Mayo to write the ship before you really doubt his
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: coaching ability?
- 1:55:26Speaker 4: Yeah? I mean I think that's kind of unfair, like
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: we're just we're just getting started here now. I mentioned
- 1:55:33Speaker 4: about a half hour ago about kind of the in
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: game mistakes that we've seen. I don't want to see
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: those continue to get repeated. That would that would cause me, Yeah,
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: that would cause me some concern, that would sort of
- 1:55:45Speaker 4: rattle my confidence a little bit. But it's five games. Yeah,
- 1:55:49Speaker 4: Now you're just sort of getting to what you want
- 1:55:52Speaker 4: to see, right with the with the new quarterback, Let's
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: kind of see how it unfolds before we worry about
- 1:55:57Speaker 4: putting a ticking clock on it.
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: I also just look at now.
- 1:56:02Speaker 18: To me, now it really begins for Alex van Pelt,
- 1:56:05Speaker 18: like what you have the quarterback now that you want
- 1:56:08Speaker 18: it in there? Who has all the physical talent in
- 1:56:11Speaker 18: the world, and not even just from a fundamental standpoint
- 1:56:15Speaker 18: like footwork and all that kind of stuff, Like show
- 1:56:17Speaker 18: me something like you schematically, show show me something, Show
- 1:56:21Speaker 18: me what you got. You know, what is it that
- 1:56:23Speaker 18: you envisioned when you drafted Jake May, Drake May and
- 1:56:26Speaker 18: the and the April. You can't tell me that him
- 1:56:29Speaker 18: and Ben McAdoo haven't been thinking about what are we
- 1:56:32Speaker 18: gonna call?
- 1:56:33Speaker 4: How are you?
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: How are we gonna run this offense?
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: Like what's the design of the offense gonna be?
- 1:56:37Speaker 7: Like? Now?
- 1:56:38Speaker 18: We get to really see what is it that they
- 1:56:41Speaker 18: had this vision with Drake and can van Pelt live
- 1:56:44Speaker 18: up to it? Like is does he have the chops
- 1:56:46Speaker 18: to live up to it?
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: Is there one thing you would say, just off the
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: top of your head of that you think Alex van
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: Pelt should do maybe a little differently with Drake may now.
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: In there pistol?
- 1:56:54Speaker 18: Yeah, I really feel strongly that they need to operate
- 1:56:58Speaker 18: instead of operating from true under center in the run game,
- 1:57:02Speaker 18: is putting him in the pistol like he was in
- 1:57:04Speaker 18: North Carolina And you see that in different places in
- 1:57:06Speaker 18: the NFL now too, because that's that, to me, is
- 1:57:09Speaker 18: a compromise, Like he might not be one hundred percent
- 1:57:12Speaker 18: comfortable yet with running under center. We saw some ups
- 1:57:15Speaker 18: and downs with it in the preseason and in training camp.
- 1:57:19Speaker 18: So let's compromise and we can still run a lot
- 1:57:21Speaker 18: of the same under center plays that we would run traditionally.
- 1:57:26Speaker 18: Let's put him in the pistol like Miami does, like
- 1:57:29Speaker 18: Tennessee is doing with Will Levis, like Atlanta does, Like
- 1:57:32Speaker 18: there's so many teams that do this across the league now.
- 1:57:35Speaker 18: And if they come out on Sunday and all their
- 1:57:39Speaker 18: under center players are now out of the pistol. I'd
- 1:57:42Speaker 18: give him all sorts of flowers for that, Like, that's innovative.
- 1:57:44Speaker 4: And you might disagree with this, but the whole Stevenson thing,
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: if that happens, that might be a blessing in disguise
- 1:57:53Speaker 4: if he's maybe a little banged up, because I think
- 1:57:56Speaker 4: Gibson's better suited for that to run out of that
- 1:57:59Speaker 4: than steven Yeah, you know, I mean it's probably not
- 1:58:02Speaker 4: a huge difference, but yeah, I like Remondre like running
- 1:58:06Speaker 4: you know, that's the under center runs. I like him
- 1:58:08Speaker 4: better moving forward, whereas I think Gibson's probably a little
- 1:58:11Speaker 4: bit maybe quicker and can operate with that.
- 1:58:15Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:58:15Speaker 4: That's that's interesting to me. Like if they if they
- 1:58:17Speaker 4: change the way they run the ball for Drake, may
- 1:58:21Speaker 4: you know, like you don't necessarily that's not that wouldn't
- 1:58:23Speaker 4: be the first thing that comes to mind. So that's
- 1:58:24Speaker 4: a different thing.
- 1:58:25Speaker 18: Yeah, I mean, I know we don't have much much
- 1:58:27Speaker 18: time left, but just the mechanics of the pistol is
- 1:58:31Speaker 18: basically the same as running it from under center, except
- 1:58:34Speaker 18: obviously the quarterback's catching the snap instead of being under center.
- 1:58:37Speaker 18: You can still add gaps onto the line of scrimmage
- 1:58:40Speaker 18: because the back is behind the quarterback, and the quarterback
- 1:58:43Speaker 18: can also still turn his back to the defense and
- 1:58:45Speaker 18: play action fake out of it, and you can run
- 1:58:48Speaker 18: quarterback option out of it too. So there's just all
- 1:58:50Speaker 18: sorts of different things that you can do out of
- 1:58:52Speaker 18: the pistol that don't exist in an an under center.
- 1:58:55Speaker 18: But he's a traditional under center guy, so is he
- 1:58:59Speaker 18: willing to pivot out to that?
- 1:59:01Speaker 7: All?
- 1:59:01Speaker 4: Right?
