- 0:00Hey everybody, this is your GM, your back row
- 0:01dom, this is your GM who currently is not on
- 0:03a team right now, but don't you worry about it.
- 0:04Kale here to bring you episode 17 of the Stack
- 0:06and Shed series. Now in this series, we're covering
- 0:08all 32 teams, so everybody gets a chance to be
- 0:11talked about, all right? Now in this series,
- 0:13we're covering a few different topics and they
- 0:15include what went wrong, what do they need, stack
- 0:19or shed, their draft picks, one move I would
- 0:22do in their cap space right now. In this episode,
- 0:24we're talking about the Broncos, all right? So
- 0:26Broncos country, let's ride. All right, let's
- 0:36get into it. So what went wrong in the Broncos
- 0:38season? And I will eventually say it was inconsistent
- 0:40offensive production. As much as we celebrated
- 0:43the memorable game -winning drives, incredible
- 0:45comebacks, and crazy catches, the offense at
- 0:48times became dead weight. From failing to convert
- 0:50on key downs to questionable play calling, the
- 0:53offense struggled to find a rhythm. According
- 0:56to Sumer Sports, the Broncos scored 20 points
- 0:59or fewer in seven of eight inconsistent games.
- 1:02That was week 10 against the Raiders where they
- 1:04scored 10 points. Week 6 against the Jets where
- 1:07they scored 13 points. Week 9 against the Texans
- 1:11where they scored 18 points. Week 18 against
- 1:13the Chargers where they scored 19 points. Week
- 1:161 against the Titans where they scored 20 points.
- 1:18Week 3 against the Chargers again where they
- 1:20scored 20 points. And week 16 against the Jaguars
- 1:23where they scored 20 points. Here's the offensive
- 1:26stat of all of those games including Bo Nix's
- 1:29stats. So week 1 against the Texans. The offense
- 1:32had 71 total plays for 317 total yards, 4 .4
- 1:38yards per play, two interceptions, one fumble,
- 1:41three red zone drives for one red zone touchdown,
- 1:44which is a 33 .3 % red zone touchdown percentage.
- 1:48Now in that game, Bo Nix was 40 attempts for
- 1:5125 completions, 176 passing yards, one touchdown,
- 1:56two interceptions, 4 .4 yards per attempt, and
- 1:58a 62 .5 % completion percentage. Week three against
- 2:02the Chargers, the offense had 48 total plays
- 2:05for 265 total yards, averaging 5 .5 yards per
- 2:09attempt, two red zone drives for one red zone
- 2:12touchdown with a 50 % red zone touchdown percentage.
- 2:16Now in that game, Bo Nix was 25 attempts for
- 2:1814 completions, 153 passing yards, one touchdown,
- 2:236 .1 yards per attempt, and a 56 % completion
- 2:25percentage. Week six against the Jets, the offense
- 2:29had 57 total plays. for 246 total yards, averaging
- 2:334 .3 yards per play, one fumble, two red zone
- 2:37drives for one red zone touchdown, and a 50 %
- 2:40red zone touchdown percentage. Now Bo Nix in
- 2:43that game was 30 attempts for 19 completions,
- 2:45174 pass yards, one touchdown, 5 .8 yards per
- 2:49attempt, and a 63 .3 % completion percentage.
- 2:52Week nine against the Texans, the offense had
- 2:5461 total plays for 271 total yards and averaging
- 2:584 .4 yards per. play, one interception, no red
- 3:02zone drives or touchdowns. Now in that game,
- 3:05Bo Nix was 37 attempts for 18 completions, 173
- 3:08passing yards, two touchdowns, one interception,
- 3:114 .7 yards per attempt, and a 48 .6 completion
- 3:14percentage. Week 10 against the Raiders, the
- 3:16offense had 57 total plays for 220 total yards
- 3:19while averaging 3 .8 yards per play, two interceptions,
- 3:23three red zone drives for one red zone touchdown,
- 3:25which is a 33 .3 % red zone touchdown percentage.
- 3:29Bo Nix in that game was 28 attempts for 16 completions,
- 3:32150 passing yards, one touchdown, two interceptions,
- 3:355 .4 yards per attempt, and a 57 .1 completion
- 3:38percentage. Week 11 against the Chiefs, the offense
- 3:41had 61 total plays for 342 total yards while
- 3:45averaging 5 .6 yards per play, five red zone
- 3:48drives for one red zone touchdown, which is a
- 3:5020 % red zone touchdown percentage. Now, Bo Nix
- 3:53in that game was 37 attempts for 24 completions,
- 3:57295... passing yards, eight yards per attempt,
- 4:00and a 64 .9 % completion percentage. Week 16
- 4:03against the Jaguars. The offense had 65 total
- 4:06plays for 445 total yards while averaging 6 .8
- 4:10yards per attempt, one interception. They lost
- 4:13a fumble. They had two red zone drives for one
- 4:15red zone touchdown, which is a 50 % red zone
- 4:17touchdown percentage. Bo Nix in that game was
- 4:2047 attempts for 28 completions, 352 passing yards,
- 4:24one touchdown, one interception, 7 .5 yards per
- 4:27attempt. a 59 .6 completion percentage. Week
- 4:3018 against the Chargers, the offense had 58 total
- 4:32plays for 240 total yards while averaging 4 .1
- 4:36yards per play, five red zone drives for zero
- 4:39red zone touchdowns. Bo Nix in that game was
- 4:4123 attempts for 14 completions, 141 pass yards,
- 4:466 .1 yards per attempt, and a 60 .9 % completion
- 4:49percentage. Regardless of how you feel about
- 4:51the performance of this offense, we can clearly
- 4:53see that there was a rhythm of dysfunction through
- 4:56throughout the entire season. Now with that being
- 4:59said, what do the Broncos need? And that is more
- 5:01offensive production. With the promotion of Davis
- 5:04Webb to offensive coordinator and primary play
- 5:06caller, I expect this offense to become more
- 5:08consistent, explosive, and expand the roles of
- 5:12their playmakers as this is the first time that
- 5:14Sean Payton has relieved his duties as primary
- 5:16offensive play caller. And with the acquisition
- 5:19of Jalen Waddell, the Broncos now have a receiver
- 5:22who is explosive enough to create separation
- 5:24at the line of scrimmage while playing the Y
- 5:26and Z. Because last year, this offense lacked
- 5:29explosive plays. According to Sumer Sports, out
- 5:33of 1 ,055 total offensive plays, the Broncos
- 5:37offense only generated 138 explosive plays, which
- 5:41only accounted for 13 .8 % of their total offensive
- 5:45plays. Now, if you break that down even more,
- 5:47that's 84 explosive passes, which are passes
- 5:51of 15 yards or more. And that only accounted
- 5:53for 14 .7 % of their passing attempts. Now they
- 5:57have 54 explosive rushes, which are rushes of
- 6:0010 plus yards or more, and that only accounted
- 6:02for 11 .7 % of their rushing attempts. Now these
- 6:05numbers make sense because when we look at the
- 6:07players that contributed the most, it was J .K.
- 6:10Dobbins before he got hurt. Cortland Sutton,
- 6:12Troy Franklin, Evan Ingram, and RJ Harvey. J
- 6:16.K. Dobbin's stat line was 153 rushing attempts
- 6:19for 772 rushing yards, 5 rushing yards per carry,
- 6:234 rushing touchdowns, and 21 rushes of 10 plus
- 6:26yards or more. But when you look at his stats
- 6:28per game, he averaged 15 .3 rushing attempts
- 6:31per game for 77 .2 rushing yards per game. Now
- 6:34when we look at RJ Harvey for instance, he had
- 6:37146 rushing attempts for 540 rushing yards, 3
- 6:41.7 rushing yards per carry, 7 rushing touchdowns,
- 6:44and 8 rushes of 10 plus yards or more. But if
- 6:47you look at his per game stats, he averaged 8
- 6:49.6 rushing attempts per game, 31 .8 rushing yards
- 6:53per game, and 3 .7 rushing yards per carry. Now
- 6:56if you look at Cortland Sutton, he had 124 targets
- 7:00for 74 receptions, 1 ,017 receiving yards, 7
- 7:04receiving touchdowns, and 13 .7 receiving yards
- 7:06per reception. But looking at his per game stats,
- 7:09he averaged 7 .3 targets per game, 4 .4 receptions
- 7:13per game, and 59 .8 receiving yards per game.
- 7:17Troy Franklin had 104 targets for 65 receptions,
- 7:21709 receiving yards, 6 touchdowns, 10 .9 receiving
- 7:25yards per reception. Now looking at his stats
- 7:27per game, he averaged 6 .1 targets per game,
- 7:303 .8 receptions per game, and 41 .7 receiving
- 7:34yards per game. targets for 50 receptions, 461
- 7:40receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 9 .2 receiving
- 7:43yards per reception. But when you look at his
- 7:45per -game stats, he averaged 4 .8 targets per
- 7:48game, 3 .1 receptions per game, and 28 .8 yards
- 7:52per game. RJ Harvey had 58 targets for 47 receptions,
- 7:56356 receiving yards, 5 receiving touchdowns,
- 7:59and he averaged 7 .6 receiving yards per reception.
- 8:02But when we look at his per -game stats, he averaged
- 8:053 .4 targets per game 2 .8 receptions per game
- 8:09and 20 .9 receiving yards per game So outside
- 8:12of those guys, nobody else was really contributing
- 8:15to this offense. Now with that being said, the
- 8:18question we all need to ask ourselves is stack
- 8:20or shed? And I'll eventually say stack. And the
- 8:23reason why I say that is because the Broncos
- 8:25were just a few plays away from going to the
- 8:27Super Bowl. There's no need to shed what has
- 8:29taken over five years to build. Instead, the
- 8:31Broncos need to identify the problems that lingered
- 8:34into the playoffs, create a solution, and continue
- 8:37to attack the offseason. As of right now, I believe
- 8:40the Broncos are the best team in the afc west
- 8:42and one of the front runners to make it to the
- 8:45super bowl looking at their draft picks they
- 8:46have their second two fourths a fifth and three
- 8:49sevens Although they only have one pick in the
- 8:52top 100, I believe they can use one of their
- 8:54fourth round picks to get into the third round.
- 8:57Now, I wonder what position will the Broncos
- 8:59target first? Because according to Travis Wakeman
- 9:02from SportingNews .com, the Broncos have brought
- 9:04in Omar Cooper, wide receiver from Indiana, Kalen
- 9:08Black, running back from Indiana, Eli Stowers,
- 9:11tight end from Vanderbilt, Chris McCullen, defensive
- 9:13tackle from Missouri, Jude Bowery, guard from
- 9:16Boston College, Josh Geske, guard from Illinois,
- 9:19Jonah Coleman, running back from Washington.
- 9:22Casey Concepcion, wide receiver from Texas A
- 9:25&M. Deshaun McCullough, linebacker from Nebraska.
- 9:27Caleb Alarms -Orr, linebacker from TCU. Justin
- 9:31Jolly, tight end from NC State. Max Clare, tight
- 9:34end from Ohio State. Jeremy Rolder, inside linebacker
- 9:37from Michigan. Paul Publett, tackle from UCF,
- 9:40and Kagan Trost, offensive tackle from Missouri,
- 9:43for top 30 visits. Now, outside of Casey Concepcion,
- 9:46Omar Cooper, and maybe Eli Stowers, I believe
- 9:49all these players are in play for the Broncos.
- 9:52Now, the one move that I would do is bolster
- 9:54the defensive line. With the departure of John
- 9:57Franklin Myers, the Broncos need to find his
- 9:59replacement in order to maintain their dominance.
- 10:02Now, this can be accomplished through the draft,
- 10:04free agency, or maybe trading for Dexter Lawrence.
- 10:08Now, I know there's some of you within Broncos
- 10:09country who are against this, but just hear me
- 10:11out for a second. If you're the Broncos, I think
- 10:14you have to at least kick the tires on the idea
- 10:16of making this move as long as the Giants asking
- 10:19price is reasonable. Now, if you feel if the
- 10:21asking price is too high, you can still address
- 10:23it in free agency or in the draft. Cam Jordan
- 10:26is still a free agent. And according to Spotrak,
- 10:29his market value is only 6 .8 million. That's
- 10:32not bad. If you want to address this position
- 10:35in the draft, you can get Dante Corleone, Zane
- 10:37Durant, Lee Hunter, or Daryl Jackson. All of
- 10:41them will be available in the second, third,
- 10:43maybe even in the fourth round. Looking at their
- 10:45cap situation, they have $19 .6 million, which
- 10:48I think is more than enough to sign their rookie
- 10:50class. Now, depending on how their draft goes,
- 10:52I expect the Broncos to make one to two additional
- 10:55free agent signings. Now, the degree of those
- 10:57signings can vary. They can be a camp body signing,
- 11:00they can be a competition free agent signing,
- 11:03or they can be a starter caliber free agent signing.
- 11:06Because you still have people such as Marshawn
- 11:08Lattimore, Trevon Diggs. Legereus Sneed, Hasan
- 11:11Reddick, Joey Bosa, David Onyemata, DJ Reader,
- 11:14Jimmy Ward, Leonard Floyd, D 'Amico Autry, Juan
- 11:17Jones. Hell, you could bring back Von Miller
- 11:19because according to SpoolTrack, his market value
- 11:21is only 5 .8 million. You have options. You have
- 11:25cap space. Do what you need to do. But I'm going
- 11:28to end this episode here. If you guys like what
