- 0:04Speaker 1: Stay, Hi to Connor.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Good, how's it going.
- 0:10Speaker 3: It's nice of you to, uh to sign autos for kids,
- 0:14Speaker 3: but you're kind of a kid yourself. My friends, I
- 0:16Speaker 3: can say that to you because I literally am old
- 0:19Speaker 3: enough to be your mother. But it has been so
- 0:21Speaker 3: much fun just hearing about your story, watching the way
- 0:24Speaker 3: that you go about your business. What has camp been
- 0:27Speaker 3: like for you, and kind of what have the conversation's
- 0:29Speaker 3: been for you?
- 0:31Speaker 4: Is, uh, they're getting ready to break camp here soon.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been. It's been a great camp for me.
- 0:36Speaker 5: Uh, you know, they're throwing me in the fire, letting
- 0:38Speaker 5: me get the reps, playing shortstops, get to play on
- 0:41Speaker 5: the road, go face some really good starters, so you know,
- 0:44Speaker 5: kind of just let me go compete, see what happens.
- 0:46Speaker 5: And it's been. It's been great. You know, the locker
- 0:48Speaker 5: room has been awesome. Everybody's just kind of taking me
- 0:51Speaker 5: in and uh, you know, it's a really fun locker
- 0:53Speaker 5: room to be around.
- 0:54Speaker 1: So so he was signing over here for all there's
- 0:56Speaker 1: a line of kids over here, and I will want
- 1:00Speaker 1: one of the old people yelled for me to come
- 1:02Speaker 1: over and sign. So I walked over and the kids
- 1:04Speaker 1: were like can you get Connor Griffin this sign for us?
- 1:07Speaker 1: And then he was to do an interview and they're
- 1:09Speaker 1: like color and it was it was Ryan or Hurt.
- 1:13Speaker 1: So that it feels pretty good about himself today. Yes, yeah,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I'm sure. I'm just trying to trying to take care
- 1:19Speaker 1: of the kids. Man, those are those are the biggest fans.
- 1:21Speaker 1: And uh, you know, it's.
- 1:23Speaker 5: Kind of cool to hear a lot of a lot
- 1:24Speaker 5: of kids won't monograph us. You know, I was, I
- 1:26Speaker 5: was in that position when I was younger. That's pretty
- 1:29Speaker 5: cool to be in the position.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I saw you talking to Azuna today in the locker room.
- 1:33Speaker 1: What was What was that conversation like with a guy
- 1:35Speaker 1: like had the career that he's had.
- 1:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean he uh, we're just kind of walking
- 1:41Speaker 5: through you know, being more selective, Uh, through ads. How
- 1:45Speaker 5: can I take advantage of wall? Taking advantage of two
- 1:48Speaker 5: oh count? Because if I get on base, it helps
- 1:51Speaker 5: the t you know, I'm gonna try to steal. I'm
- 1:53Speaker 5: gonna try to be aggressive, uh, you know, ball in
- 1:56Speaker 5: the gap. I'm trying to score. He just wanted to
- 1:59Speaker 5: size like, hey, be patient. You know, people know the name, uh,
- 2:04Speaker 5: and that that's fine. There's a lot of great players
- 2:06Speaker 5: that people that pictures know the name. But be patient,
- 2:09Speaker 5: be selected to get your pitch, take your walks if
- 2:12Speaker 5: you have to, and and take advantage of it.
- 2:15Speaker 6: Have you thought about learning Spanish so that you can
- 2:17Speaker 6: have an even better hitting conversation with Marcelo Zuna?
- 2:22Speaker 5: I can understand it a little bit. Definitely need to
- 2:25Speaker 5: need to work on it some more. But he speaks
- 2:28Speaker 5: pretty good English, so it was it was a good conversation.
- 2:30Speaker 1: He speaks really good English, not pretty good English. He
- 2:33Speaker 1: speaks really do we have a conversation, not the one
- 2:36Speaker 1: you were in depth with, but we had a short conversation.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's legit, so it's good.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Is that everyone to you? Does everyone treat you even
- 2:42Speaker 1: though you don't have a ton of older veteran guys?
- 2:45Speaker 1: Who's even the younger guy? I mean even like a
- 2:48Speaker 1: Brandon Lyle, Ryan over Reynolds, these guys aren't that old.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Did they still treat you like a younger pup or
- 2:55Speaker 1: are they treating you with the respect of a veteran?
- 2:59Speaker 2: I think they it's you know, a little in between.
- 3:02Speaker 5: You know, they they've actually they let me, they let
- 3:04Speaker 5: me be, you know, they they want me to get
- 3:07Speaker 5: the experience. They want me to go through some ups
- 3:09Speaker 5: and some downs, and they're they're they're super open, uh
- 3:12Speaker 5: to questions if I haven't he and they they've made
- 3:14Speaker 5: that important or they made they emphasize that. So it's, uh,
- 3:18Speaker 5: it's it's been. It's been really good. You know, there's
- 3:20Speaker 5: there's a lot of great experience. I can pick their
- 3:22Speaker 5: brains and it's helped me out a lot.
- 3:25Speaker 6: Is there anybody that you're kind of like, oh man,
- 3:28Speaker 6: he's coming, he's gonna give me a hard time? I know, great,
- 3:32Speaker 6: Oh Hearn's here, or or who's that guy in camp
- 3:35Speaker 6: right now?
- 3:37Speaker 5: I'm gonna I'm gonna say nick York. Nick York is
- 3:39Speaker 5: always uh always picking on me. But no, he's he's
- 3:42Speaker 5: been great to pick on you.
- 3:45Speaker 1: You're nineteen years old, you're playing short stuff. You've got
- 3:47Speaker 1: a chance to break with the big league club. You
- 3:49Speaker 1: were what what pick were you in the draft? You
- 3:51Speaker 1: were ninth picking the draft, So you're already rich, you're
- 3:53Speaker 1: good looking, right.
- 3:58Speaker 5: He's just always messing with me. It's a good time.
- 4:01Speaker 5: We're locker buddy, so uh, you know, we just he's
- 4:04Speaker 5: like he's like a brother.
- 4:04Speaker 7: Now.
- 4:05Speaker 1: So The only thing I could say is a Morgan
- 4:07Speaker 1: wall and the way I talk. Maybe with you, you
- 4:09Speaker 1: got the Southern act thing going.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I guess that could be something.
- 4:11Speaker 1: But I mean because there's not a lot to pick
- 4:13Speaker 1: on here.
- 4:14Speaker 5: No, but uh you know, it's like I said, it's
- 4:17Speaker 5: been it's been really fun.
- 4:19Speaker 6: Uh.
- 4:20Speaker 3: The Southern accent and Morgan Wallen the way I talk
- 4:22Speaker 3: is another reason that nobody can pick on him.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Okay, agent, let's get that.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Straight right now, all right, Connor, not take I understand
- 4:30Speaker 3: it is not your decision. I understand it is above
- 4:32Speaker 3: your pay grade, taking all of the front office stuff
- 4:34Speaker 3: out of it. You are the opening days starting shortstop
- 4:38Speaker 3: for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Because tell us more about your game, I.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Would just say, uh, you know, because I'm prepared. You know,
- 4:47Speaker 5: I've been I've been training for this for uh for
- 4:50Speaker 5: my whole life, and uh you know, I've got the
- 4:53Speaker 5: opportunities here in big Ley Camp to get the experience
- 4:56Speaker 5: face to the big lea pitch in h And I
- 4:58Speaker 5: feel confident with myself. I feel comf confident with my preparation,
- 5:01Speaker 5: how I go about the day, how I'm handling things,
- 5:04Speaker 5: and uh, you know, I'm gonna go out there. I'm
- 5:07Speaker 5: gonna bring a lot of energy. I'm a bobble guy,
- 5:10Speaker 5: and you know, affect the game on the offensive side, uh,
- 5:14Speaker 5: you know, hitting stealing bags, stuff like that. Defensive side,
- 5:19Speaker 5: you know, I can, I can effect the game there
- 5:21Speaker 5: as well.
- 5:21Speaker 2: So I bring a lot of tools. And that's uh,
- 5:24Speaker 2: that's what I'm confident in.
- 5:26Speaker 6: People don't know a ton about you, but you just
- 5:28Speaker 6: got married. So now you have an issue when you
- 5:32Speaker 6: get called up, whether it's whether it's opening day or not,
- 5:35Speaker 6: who's the first person that's getting called? Because I've watched you.
- 5:38Speaker 6: I follow your dad on Twitter ever since, ever since
- 5:41Speaker 6: I coached you in the All American Game out in Seattle,
- 5:45Speaker 6: Like I've been enamored with it. But who gets the
- 5:48Speaker 6: first call?
- 5:49Speaker 5: My wife will get the first call for It's not
- 5:53Speaker 5: it's not over the parents. It's it's just you know,
- 5:56Speaker 5: she's she's my person. He's here every day with me now,
- 5:59Speaker 5: and you know I her, uh to give her the call,
- 6:04Speaker 5: and and then you know my parents will be parents.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Will be three way call.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Yeah, three way call, yeah, three way yeah yeah.
- 6:13Speaker 6: Yeah. Uh.
- 6:15Speaker 5: You know I got I got a super super good
- 6:17Speaker 5: circle of family and friends and you know, there's there's
- 6:20Speaker 5: a lot of great people that have helped me get
- 6:22Speaker 5: to where I'm at, and UH gonna make sure all
- 6:25Speaker 5: of them are in the.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Best player from Jackson Fred.
- 6:30Speaker 5: I gotta say, Jake Mango, I gotta give him some credits.
- 6:35Speaker 1: That's awesome. So I have to I have to say
- 6:37Speaker 1: this before Krafts gets on here. So Krawtz has this
- 6:40Speaker 1: theory that no one from Mississippi can be a good hitter,
- 6:44Speaker 1: right and I so I rattled off Will Calaureography, palm
- 6:47Speaker 1: Meryll Manga, Fran Rook or he goes No, no high
- 6:50Speaker 1: school guys that are drafted out of high school. So
- 6:53Speaker 1: look in the camera right there, say crowds, you're wrong.
- 6:55Speaker 1: They're a good hitter.
- 6:57Speaker 5: That went to high school Missipi're o, man, there's a
- 6:59Speaker 5: great hitter that come from Mississippi.
- 7:04Speaker 6: AJ's trolling me because it was something that I said
- 7:07Speaker 6: that a scout the idea of hitters high school hitters.
- 7:12Speaker 6: Have you heard that? The idea was what, repeating what
- 7:15Speaker 6: I had said before, was the scout said it is
- 7:18Speaker 6: so hard to draft and or draft high right handed
- 7:23Speaker 6: or not right hand high school hitters out of the
- 7:26Speaker 6: state of Mississippi. What do you have to say to
- 7:29Speaker 6: those idiot scouts.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Yeah, man, I heard it a lot through through my
- 7:35Speaker 5: draft process that you know, I had a hit full
- 7:38Speaker 5: problem and you know the competition wasn't great Mississippi. You
- 7:41Speaker 5: know that's all. That's all, just really talk. There's there's
- 7:44Speaker 5: been a lot of great players. He just named a
- 7:46Speaker 5: ton of great players that have come from Mississippi. And
- 7:50Speaker 5: if you go down and watch some high school baseball,
- 7:51Speaker 5: you'll you'll get some good competition, You'll watch a good game.
- 7:54Speaker 5: So I'm proud to be from Mississippi and just trying
- 7:57Speaker 5: to continue that legacy of uh great my fashion the
- 8:00Speaker 5: big leagues being Fromsissipi.
- 8:02Speaker 2: So that's that's what I'm here to do.

- 9:19Speaker 5: always watching.
- 9:20Speaker 1: The Braids So you could have said, me got.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Jones in my head first, that was about the right

- 9:47Speaker 4: What do you I mean, you're nineteen.
- 9:48Speaker 3: You play baseball, obviously, but you're very dedicated to your craft.
- 9:52Speaker 4: What do you do for fun?
- 9:54Speaker 7: Love?
- 9:54Speaker 2: Love? Love music? Country music is awesome.
- 9:56Speaker 5: I love going to you know, finding concerts in a
- 9:59Speaker 5: few more a wall and I want to go to
- 10:01Speaker 5: Riley Green.
- 10:02Speaker 2: That's that's makes some Uh.
- 10:06Speaker 5: We well, maybe maybe we can country Okay. I love
- 10:15Speaker 5: to hunt, love the fish in the off season, so
- 10:18Speaker 5: that that's what I can do when I'm away from
- 10:20Speaker 5: the field and just spend time with my family.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Yeah, connect connect with her.
- 10:26Speaker 1: A lot of earmuffs. What's your favorite thing in the
- 10:29Speaker 1: deer here? Yeah, deer have a place.
- 10:32Speaker 5: I don't have a place, but I got I got
- 10:34Speaker 5: a lot of family friends, and that to have good connections.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Get place.
- 10:39Speaker 5: You know that that's the dream that when they you know,
- 10:41Speaker 5: can have my own spot and be able to go
- 10:44Speaker 5: there whenever I want.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Listen, that's my that's.
- 10:47Speaker 3: My husband's dream too. He hunts, he fishes, he does
- 10:49Speaker 3: all the things. I don't do it, but he doesn't.
- 10:52Speaker 7: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Listen me too, So I can't. I can't not. Are
- 10:56Speaker 1: you a State or.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Old Miss Old Miss.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yeah, the interviews over now, uh because my daughter, Okay,
- 11:04Speaker 1: so I have a little bit of a connection the
- 11:07Speaker 1: State Ole Miss. Not a fan anyway, It's awesome that
- 11:13Speaker 1: I really appreciate you coming on with us. I think
- 11:16Speaker 1: we're going to Frank. I'm not sure because my slack
- 11:18Speaker 1: is not working, so I think we're going to not
- 11:21Speaker 1: We really really hope that everything works out for you
- 11:26Speaker 1: this week. Have a great career. We know you will,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and we'll be right back here there.
- 11:31Speaker 4: All right, guys.
- 11:32Speaker 3: The foul Territory Spring Training Tour is engineered by Fastenal.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Check out fastenal dot com for more information. Let's take
- 11:38Speaker 3: a look at our Spring training Tour calendar.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Say that five times fast, very few teams left. We've
- 11:45Speaker 4: been rocking it.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Over the course of Cactus and gratefull Lee. Let's get
- 11:48Speaker 3: to our next guest in a minute. But first of all, Eric,
- 11:51Speaker 3: let's talk about the camps that we've done. Of course,
- 11:53Speaker 3: Aj is live at Pirates Camp. It looks like tomorrow
- 11:56Speaker 3: we're at the Blue Jays and then we round things
- 11:58Speaker 3: out with the Philadelphia Phillies. It's been a fun spring training.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Is there anything that's kind of stood out to you
- 12:05Speaker 3: so far.
- 12:09Speaker 4: I can't hear you, Ilana, you can't hear me.
- 12:12Speaker 6: I can hear you now.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Okay, I just went through this whole monologue about how
- 12:15Speaker 3: great Fastenall is and how great our spring training tour
- 12:18Speaker 3: has been. So I'm going to ask you this, my friend.
- 12:20Speaker 3: We're wrapping things up in a couple of days. Has
- 12:23Speaker 3: and it's been fun. It's been a good spring training.
- 12:25Speaker 3: You guys have crushed it. Is there anything that's kind
- 12:27Speaker 3: of stood out to.
- 12:27Speaker 6: You something about spring training? And maybe this is the
- 12:32Speaker 6: optimist in me. I just love how I go to
- 12:35Speaker 6: a camp or we go to a camp, guys AJ's
- 12:38Speaker 6: there or Kevin Pollar was there, and I'm like, these
- 12:42Speaker 6: guys have a chance to be really good. And it's
- 12:44Speaker 6: not just when we're at Dodgers camp. It's not just
- 12:46Speaker 6: when we're at you know, the Red Sox camp. Like
- 12:51Speaker 6: the optimism and camp and the fact that like we've
- 12:55Speaker 6: been able to get so many players, so many managers
- 12:59Speaker 6: to show up up and come on our show. It's
- 13:04Speaker 6: been tremendous. That's the biggest thing that stands out to me.
- 13:07Speaker 6: Because this is our fourth spring training, no third spring training.
- 13:11Speaker 6: Now it's our start of our fourth year.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Yeah, that says a lot about foul Territory and the
- 13:16Speaker 3: job that you guys are doing and the recognition that
- 13:19Speaker 3: players have and the growth of this network.
- 13:22Speaker 4: So proud to be a part of that.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I guess going into spring training, Eric, you mentioned obviously
- 13:27Speaker 3: everybody's hopeful, right, but is there a club that really
- 13:30Speaker 3: surprised you in terms of maybe we weren't giving them
- 13:33Speaker 3: as much credit as we should and you are thinking
- 13:35Speaker 3: about it now more so just because of listening to
- 13:38Speaker 3: the players and the guys.
- 13:42Speaker 6: I guess it's not done yet, but you know, we're
- 13:45Speaker 6: still rolling around spring training. I really like every time
- 13:48Speaker 6: we go into Baltimore's camp. I get it they had
- 13:52Speaker 6: it down year last year. But I said the same
- 13:54Speaker 6: thing when we left there last year in Sarasota, it
- 13:58Speaker 6: was like, are gonna be good? Like I have a
- 14:01Speaker 6: feeling that they're gonna be really good, and this year
- 14:05Speaker 6: I have the same feeling. Now is cold wrong last year?
- 14:09Speaker 6: And I think they still have some issues that they
- 14:11Speaker 6: need to address this year. But like we talked about earlier,
- 14:14Speaker 6: the whole peed Alonzo thing, I just feel like the
- 14:16Speaker 6: Orioles in an American League East have less of a
- 14:20Speaker 6: spotlight on them because of all that, the Yankees always
- 14:22Speaker 6: have the Red Sox are always going to get a
- 14:25Speaker 6: lot of spotlight. And then the Blue Jays kind of
- 14:27Speaker 6: take that ancillary spotlight and shine it on themselves because
- 14:31Speaker 6: people are saying, oh, that's the best team in the
- 14:33Speaker 6: American League, and the Oriols are like, we're pretty good too,
- 14:37Speaker 6: all right. A. J.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Pierzinski, of course, is live in Bradington at Pirates camp.
- 14:42Speaker 3: He is now with Bubba Wallace, Bubba Chandlers. I knew
- 14:44Speaker 3: I was gonna do that.
- 14:45Speaker 2: I knew it.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Hey joined here by Bubba Chandler at Pittsburgh Pirates spring
- 14:52Speaker 1: training camp in Bradenton, Florida. We picked the wrong day
- 14:55Speaker 1: to come here to the today. It's freezing today.
- 14:59Speaker 9: Yeah, it's very cold. I was out there throwing and
- 15:02Speaker 9: I say, why are my hands cold today? And then
- 15:04Speaker 9: I realized it's actually cold.
- 15:06Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Does that affect you as a picture?
- 15:08Speaker 9: No, I actually like it when it's cold. Throw on
- 15:11Speaker 9: some thermals becase it's harder to hit.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Yeah, but don't your fingers going on like my fingers
- 15:15Speaker 1: Like if you I'm not having you touch my hands.
- 15:16Speaker 1: But they're cold.
- 15:18Speaker 9: Yeah, I think you know, when it's cold, like I'll
- 15:21Speaker 9: have a hot choco or a coffee in the dugout.
- 15:23Speaker 7: That'll be good to go.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I mean, you played football in high school when you're
- 15:27Speaker 1: a QB, you had did you wear the little thing,
- 15:29Speaker 1: the little pack with the heat numbers in there?
- 15:32Speaker 7: Oh? Yeah, you had those?
- 15:33Speaker 1: When you're throwing your out there today?
- 15:35Speaker 7: Yeah, that'd be nice. That would be nice.
- 15:37Speaker 9: But I thought, actually see a couple of weeks ago,
- 15:39Speaker 9: how them playing golf. I'm like, I didn't know you
- 15:41Speaker 9: could wear in the competition, but maybe I'll try to
- 15:43Speaker 9: wear it early in the evening.
- 15:44Speaker 1: If you put one, if you're out there on the mountain,
- 15:46Speaker 1: you put say one that matched your uniform on your back.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Could you pitch with that on?
- 15:51Speaker 7: Probably not. They'd say it affect the hitter or some
- 15:53Speaker 7: stupid stuff.
- 15:54Speaker 1: But hey, hey, hitter feelings too.
- 15:58Speaker 7: Over.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Are you excited I did about this year and where
- 16:02Speaker 1: you stand with this organization?
- 16:04Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 16:04Speaker 9: I mean, you know, well the front office did bring
- 16:08Speaker 9: in some guys that you know, both on hitting pitching side.
- 16:10Speaker 7: Is really cool to see.
- 16:12Speaker 9: You know, this is my first year, you know, coming
- 16:14Speaker 9: into camp, you know, trying to win a job and
- 16:17Speaker 9: get after it and set myself up.
- 16:20Speaker 7: And the way the.
- 16:21Speaker 9: Team looks this year, the way we're playing in camp,
- 16:23Speaker 9: you know, it's it's really fun to see winning a
- 16:26Speaker 9: lot of games, having a lot of fun. The preparation
- 16:29Speaker 9: daily is you know something I haven't seen and ever
- 16:31Speaker 9: since I've been a Pirate is you know, guys are
- 16:33Speaker 9: on their p's and q's every day and it's it's
- 16:37Speaker 9: really cool and fascinating.
- 16:38Speaker 1: You see, have they told you anything starter? Because last
- 16:42Speaker 1: year we were on here and I'm like, why is
- 16:44Speaker 1: he not starting if he's coming in through five innings?
- 16:47Speaker 7: Yeah? Right?
- 16:47Speaker 1: Have they Have they talked to you about starter? Reliever?
- 16:51Speaker 9: I mean no, I'm a believe I'm a starter. They
- 16:55Speaker 9: believe I'm a starter to uh, you know, last year
- 16:57Speaker 9: was just kind of tough. Like you know, one thing
- 17:00Speaker 9: I love about the Pirates is, you know we we
- 17:02Speaker 9: earned stuff around here, and you know, I'm about that
- 17:06Speaker 9: and you know, whether it's you know, earn it during
- 17:08Speaker 9: the season or earning it here in spring that I
- 17:13Speaker 9: think it creates a good president of you know, if
- 17:14Speaker 9: you want something, got to go get it and got
- 17:16Speaker 9: to earn it. And I think last year was kind
- 17:17Speaker 9: of that in camp, say, hey, you know, come out
- 17:20Speaker 9: of the bullk and a couple of times, and if
- 17:21Speaker 9: you pitch well, you know, I may give you a start,
- 17:23Speaker 9: may not, but you know, if you're gonna earn it,
- 17:24Speaker 9: and you know, when you do get caught with the
- 17:26Speaker 9: big leagues, you know you're gonna there'll be no doubt
- 17:29Speaker 9: that you did earn it.
- 17:31Speaker 6: Did you like, how was that? How was that communicated?
- 17:34Speaker 6: Because I, I'll be honest, I came on the show
- 17:36Speaker 6: and I had a problem with it. I even called
- 17:38Speaker 6: one of your the people that make decisions for you guys,
- 17:41Speaker 6: and I was like, I've watched this guy throw in
- 17:43Speaker 6: the minor leagues, and I've talked to you last year
- 17:46Speaker 6: in spring training. I feel like, one, you're mentally good enough,
- 17:50Speaker 6: physically you throw the ball well enough. I was very confused,
- 17:53Speaker 6: is why they called you up to put you in
- 17:55Speaker 6: the bullpen, something that I don't think you'll ever do
- 17:58Speaker 6: and I don't think you should do. How was that communication?
- 18:02Speaker 6: And also how did you feel about that? Because did
- 18:05Speaker 6: it feel like a little bit of a slight or
- 18:07Speaker 6: were you totally fine with it?
- 18:10Speaker 7: I don't want to say a slight like I.
- 18:14Speaker 9: You know, when I got to the big leagues, I
- 18:16Speaker 9: was just so grateful and happy that you know, I
- 18:19Speaker 9: kind of didn't necessarily care about it. And then you know,
- 18:21Speaker 9: at the end of the season, you know kind of
- 18:23Speaker 9: you know, self assessed. I'm like, you know, go back
- 18:25Speaker 9: to my debut and I'm like, wow, like I did
- 18:27Speaker 9: come out of the bullpen, you know, on my debut
- 18:30Speaker 9: the next game and the next game, and you know,
- 18:32Speaker 9: it was kind of weird. I will say I was uncomfortable,
- 18:35Speaker 9: but I mean I look back at it now and
- 18:38Speaker 9: I think, you know, it set me up in a
- 18:40Speaker 9: good way to you know, stuff got thrown at me
- 18:42Speaker 9: that I wasn't necessarily comfortable with. And I think coming
- 18:45Speaker 9: in this year, I know, you know how to get
- 18:47Speaker 9: it done. And if I ever do get thrown into
- 18:49Speaker 9: a role like that again, you know, just roll with
- 18:51Speaker 9: the punches and get after it. But yeah, definitely odd.
- 18:56Speaker 9: But again, like you know, I say talk about earning stuff.
- 18:59Speaker 9: When I I get called up, I felt like I
- 19:01Speaker 9: was in a you know, a slump, and I wasn't.
- 19:03Speaker 7: I didn't earn it. And you know, when I did
- 19:05Speaker 7: get up.
- 19:06Speaker 9: To the big leagues, you know, getting thrown in the
- 19:07Speaker 9: pen was something I probably needed, and uh, you know,
- 19:12Speaker 9: you know, happy it happened that way. But you know,
- 19:15Speaker 9: starting is nice, you know, having your routine. But you
- 19:18Speaker 9: know I was already so nervous already that day that
- 19:20Speaker 9: you know, not starting was probably the best thing.
- 19:22Speaker 7: You know.
- 19:23Speaker 9: Just get out in the bullpen, move around a little bit.
- 19:24Speaker 9: When they call your name, just throw as hard as
- 19:26Speaker 9: you can in the bullpen and run out there. You know,
- 19:30Speaker 9: suck and win, but got out there and get it done.
- 19:32Speaker 9: And you know I look back at it, and you know, grateful.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Roy Ruben Chandler. How does one become Bubba? Where did
- 19:39Speaker 3: that name come from?
- 19:40Speaker 4: I love it.
- 19:41Speaker 3: I feel like you should be driving a NASCAR though.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Where did you Where did the name come from? And
- 19:45Speaker 3: how did it stick?
- 19:48Speaker 9: You know, my sisters growing up, you know, they called
- 19:51Speaker 9: me their brother. You know, they're older than me, and
- 19:52Speaker 9: they called me their brother Bubba.
- 19:53Speaker 7: And all that stuff.
- 19:54Speaker 9: Just you know something that you know, you younger kids
- 19:56Speaker 9: get when they're young, especially in the South. And you know,
- 20:00Speaker 9: I thought that was my name when I got you know,
- 20:02Speaker 9: competent enough to understand words, and so I just started
- 20:05Speaker 9: saying it. And then my grandparents started saying it, you know,
- 20:08Speaker 9: parents started saying it. It kind of just stuck and
- 20:10Speaker 9: now we're here and I sign checks with.
- 20:16Speaker 7: Ruben.
- 20:17Speaker 9: So a lot of our our Latin players call me
- 20:20Speaker 9: Ruben really, but they say in the cooler way, why
- 20:22Speaker 9: do they?
- 20:23Speaker 1: Why? Why? Why did? Why? Only the Latin players?
- 20:26Speaker 9: I don't know them? Them and Henry Davis because like Rubin,
- 20:32Speaker 9: I don't know. But that's that's that's how it goes.
- 20:36Speaker 4: You have your fun, I like your attitude.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Let's uh, let's clear something up for the people that
- 20:40Speaker 3: are not paying attention or want to make something bigger
- 20:43Speaker 3: than it is. So you said that Paul Skens was
- 20:46Speaker 3: a spoon fed right, the meteoric rise didn't have to
- 20:49Speaker 3: really toil through the minor leagues.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Obviously that was a joke.
- 20:54Speaker 3: So tell us how that whole thing went down, and
- 20:56Speaker 3: how much fun it is pitching in that rotation.
- 20:58Speaker 7: With that dude, not a serious playing. I love love
- 21:03Speaker 7: fall to death.
- 21:04Speaker 9: I mean you get to see it every five or
- 21:05Speaker 9: six days, like the passion that guy has and what
- 21:09Speaker 9: he does you know daily is something like it. I
- 21:12Speaker 9: said in the end of that interview. You know, it's
- 21:14Speaker 9: an example and guys should follow it. You know, I
- 21:17Speaker 9: try to sometimes like some of his stuff. I try
- 21:20Speaker 9: to take you know, in his routine, in his daily work,
- 21:22Speaker 9: and you know, it shows that he's the best pitcher
- 21:26Speaker 9: in baseball, and you know guys are chasing him.
- 21:28Speaker 7: Uh but yeah, you know that was unserious.
- 21:31Speaker 9: I saw a lot of I got a lot of
- 21:32Speaker 9: flag for it, which, you know, whatever, but it was funny.
- 21:36Speaker 9: But yeah, you know, I hope they win tonight or
- 21:38Speaker 9: more whenever they play and get him back in camp.
- 21:41Speaker 7: Yeah, he he's great. It's nice. There wouldn't be there.
- 21:50Speaker 1: You got the no I wish I was.
- 21:54Speaker 7: Miami is a long way for the drive.
- 21:57Speaker 1: But you got you got the little Paul schemes look
- 21:59Speaker 1: to you. You got the mustache going.
- 22:01Speaker 7: Yeah, well he looks like me.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Oh, he looks like you're a little smaller than he is.
- 22:07Speaker 7: Though unfortunately my heart's bigger.
- 22:11Speaker 1: But yeah, you know, when you did that interview, I
- 22:15Speaker 1: saw it and I thought it was great. Right. My
- 22:17Speaker 1: wife saw it. My wife goes, who's this guy in
- 22:19Speaker 1: the pirates and why is he taking shots at Paul Skiing?
- 22:23Speaker 1: And I said, Bubba Chandler. She says, yeah, I can't
- 22:26Speaker 1: believe someone on his own team said those things about her.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I said, well, you know, their roommates and best friends,
- 22:31Speaker 1: and it was a complete joke, so it didn't come
- 22:33Speaker 1: across like that. Yeah, I said, no, no, no, no, they're
- 22:36Speaker 1: like best friends.
- 22:37Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 22:38Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean throwing back to like two years ago
- 22:40Speaker 9: when I, you know, said some smart stuff about you know, yeah,
- 22:43Speaker 9: you're gonna be the day to starter whatever.
- 22:45Speaker 7: You know.
- 22:46Speaker 9: When that video came out, me and Paul are sitting
- 22:48Speaker 9: on the couch inside each other.
- 22:50Speaker 7: She's like, god, bless, like, I can't what did we see?
- 22:52Speaker 7: What did he say?
- 22:53Speaker 9: I just think it's funny, you know, like say, you know,
- 22:58Speaker 9: kind of create some healthy compition. You know, we're competing
- 23:01Speaker 9: with each other every day, but at the media, you
- 23:02Speaker 9: know thinks we hate each other, you know, so be it. Yeah,
- 23:07Speaker 9: maybe be like it was a Major League when Dorn
- 23:10Speaker 9: and Ricky Vaughan, you know, or make up after you know,
- 23:14Speaker 9: they win the Pennant or whatever they did.
- 23:16Speaker 7: Maybe be like that true like that, you know.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Just don't do what Yeah, let's let's get that off
- 23:25Speaker 1: the record.
- 23:29Speaker 6: Does he give it back to you? Does he does
- 23:31Speaker 6: he give it? Like because we don't ever see any
- 23:32Speaker 6: emotion from him. You are clearly you're okay with being
- 23:36Speaker 6: sarcastic out in the media. Does he give it back
- 23:38Speaker 6: to you or is he exactly like he's portrayed in
- 23:41Speaker 6: the media, like just a robot and doesn't like great joke,
- 23:45Speaker 6: that was awesome, Leave me alone.
- 23:49Speaker 7: Paul's a boy, Ball's a dude.
- 23:50Speaker 9: You know he uh, you know, he kicks back and
- 23:54Speaker 9: hangs out, you know, bus chops and you know he does.
- 23:58Speaker 9: You know, he's very he's a very mellow and laid
- 24:01Speaker 9: back person, you know, off the field, but he'll crack
- 24:04Speaker 9: a joke.
- 24:04Speaker 7: He'll bust your balls here and there.
- 24:05Speaker 9: And you know that's what we love about him, is
- 24:08Speaker 9: he's the same guy every day. And uh yeah, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 9: I'm finally I'm glad he did show some emotion at
- 24:14Speaker 9: the end of that game. Unless he saw that video.
- 24:16Speaker 9: Yeah yeah, Uh he's got it in him. He's got
- 24:20Speaker 9: he's got it.
- 24:21Speaker 7: Yeah I do too. I want to.
- 24:24Speaker 9: Cuss words off the mound. And in the first thing
- 24:28Speaker 9: opening day, it's correct, what does.
- 24:31Speaker 6: He what does he get on you about? We know
- 24:33Speaker 6: what you get on him about, but what does he
- 24:35Speaker 6: get on you about?
- 24:38Speaker 7: Not much? I'm pretty pretty perfect. Uh, I don't know.
- 24:44Speaker 9: I mean, I'll say he's helping me with a lot
- 24:46Speaker 9: of things, you know, whether it's been like nutrition, you know,
- 24:50Speaker 9: just habits you know off the field, uh, you know,
- 24:53Speaker 9: to help the body be in the right spot every
- 24:55Speaker 9: five days.
- 24:56Speaker 7: I'd say like that.
- 24:57Speaker 9: You know he uh know, he's fortunate enough to have
- 25:01Speaker 9: a lot of connections that he's kind of passed down
- 25:03Speaker 9: to me a little bit, which I'm grateful for.
- 25:05Speaker 7: I say like that.
- 25:06Speaker 9: You know, is you have one job, and you know
- 25:10Speaker 9: that's to take the ball every five or six days
- 25:12Speaker 9: whenever they give it to you and go out there
- 25:14Speaker 9: and execute and do what you need to do. And
- 25:16Speaker 9: how do you prepare yourself and say yourself for success
- 25:19Speaker 9: for the team? Is you know, it's the only job
- 25:21Speaker 9: you have and you get seven months a year to
- 25:23Speaker 9: do it. So why not treat every day like it's
- 25:25Speaker 9: you know, that day? And I think that's what he's
- 25:28Speaker 9: helped me with a lot. And you know, I think
- 25:30Speaker 9: early on, you know, in our friendship, you know, he
- 25:33Speaker 9: was a lot more advanced in that category. And then
- 25:36Speaker 9: now you know he's helped out you know, I'm not
- 25:38Speaker 9: afraid to say he's helped me a lot.
- 25:41Speaker 7: Yeah, I love love him to death.
- 25:43Speaker 6: What's that? What's that one you were talking about? Nutrition?
- 25:46Speaker 6: What's that one? Nutrition? Bad choice that you're gonna make.
- 25:49Speaker 6: If you're like, all right, like this is a day
- 25:50Speaker 6: that I can that I can do something that Bubba
- 25:53Speaker 6: Chandler goes ahead and a cheat day per se.
- 25:56Speaker 7: Well, I would be honest.
- 25:57Speaker 9: I have a cheat day every every week. Know, every day,
- 26:01Speaker 9: every day is a cheat day.
- 26:02Speaker 2: You know.
- 26:03Speaker 9: After I pitched, you know, I'll hit all my all
- 26:05Speaker 9: my stuff, the proteins, the water weight you lost, all
- 26:09Speaker 9: that good stuff. You know, I'm gonna wake up that
- 26:11Speaker 9: next morning, I'm probably gonna have a cinnamon roll.
- 26:15Speaker 7: And that's my cheat. I love a cinnamon roll.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Man.
- 26:17Speaker 7: I I do a lot of things.
- 26:19Speaker 9: If me and A J had a big, big cinnamon
- 26:21Speaker 9: role sitting in front of us right now, would be
- 26:23Speaker 9: great with you. But yeah, that's you know. Sometimes you know,
- 26:27Speaker 9: we'll get some breakfast in the morning. You know, I
- 26:29Speaker 9: may have a cinnamon roll and he's like, what what
- 26:31Speaker 9: are you doing?
- 26:32Speaker 7: Man?
- 26:33Speaker 9: I pitched yesterday. This is my this is my reward.
- 26:36Speaker 9: But yeah, you know I eat a lot of steak
- 26:38Speaker 9: and rice, ground beef and rice, chicken rice. It sucks
- 26:41Speaker 9: but yeah, pretty good McDonald's.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Yeahude, guy, between back when Prats and I played, that
- 26:52Speaker 1: was our that was our happy email. You go and
- 26:54Speaker 1: get that. Now, you guys go home and I'm gonna
- 26:56Speaker 1: have a steak.
- 26:57Speaker 7: And yeah, I'll crush some Chick fil A here there.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Like, if you're friends with Schemes, don't you have to
- 27:02Speaker 1: have Canes? Because Kane is paying them all that money
- 27:04Speaker 1: at LSU.
- 27:05Speaker 9: So yeah, God bless you're still pan of money. I
- 27:09Speaker 9: do like canes. There's a Canes and Athens where I lives.
- 27:13Speaker 9: It's always packed. I never go, but it's pretty good.
- 27:16Speaker 7: Chick Chick Fla is my spot. I'm gonna do that.
- 27:19Speaker 7: It's good.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Okay, what about Connor Connor Griffin, you're you're kind of
- 27:23Speaker 1: a young guy, high school guy. You're a veteran now
- 27:27Speaker 1: compared to him. Do you have any advice for him? Yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 1: going through what he's kind of going through.
- 27:32Speaker 7: Yeah, it's crazy. I'm twenty three.
- 27:34Speaker 9: He's four years younger than me, and he is gonna
- 27:37Speaker 9: be a big leaguer very soon. It's kind of wild
- 27:39Speaker 9: to think about where I was at nineteen saying, but
- 27:44Speaker 9: I love KG.
- 27:45Speaker 7: I mean that, dude.
- 27:47Speaker 9: If someone didn't know who he was and you talked
- 27:49Speaker 9: to him for ten minutes, You're.
- 27:51Speaker 7: Like, Wow, like that guy, I have no idea. He's
- 27:53Speaker 7: probably had a great career.
- 27:54Speaker 9: Bro, you know, has a nice family and everything, like,
- 27:57Speaker 9: you know, a great person fellowship. He's nineteen, like kind
- 28:00Speaker 9: of insane, you know, very fortunate to get.
- 28:02Speaker 7: To know him.
- 28:03Speaker 9: Uh, you know, getting to know his wife, Dandy, She's
- 28:06Speaker 9: all like, they don't act like they're nineteen, and that's
- 28:09Speaker 9: that's cool. I think that's pretty sweet. And yeah, you're
- 28:15Speaker 9: gonna see it, you know, whether he makes the team
- 28:17Speaker 9: opening day or he gets caught up, you know, the
- 28:18Speaker 9: last day of the season. You know, he's gonna dominate
- 28:21Speaker 9: wherever he's at. It's gonna be fun to watch. And yeah,
- 28:25Speaker 9: I can't wait to be teammates with him one day
- 28:27Speaker 9: and opening day.
- 28:29Speaker 7: Yeah, that would be sick. It'd be really cool. You know.
- 28:33Speaker 9: I think a lot of guys here deserved it and
- 28:35Speaker 9: worked their tail off and played well in camp that
- 28:38Speaker 9: deserved you know, whatever spot's open. But yeah, you know,
- 28:41Speaker 9: I think like KG gets a lot of the praise
- 28:43Speaker 9: as he should, and you know, I thoroughly enjoyed watching
- 28:47Speaker 9: him play.
- 28:48Speaker 7: You know, if I'm not playing, I'm tuning into the game.
- 28:50Speaker 9: And you know, watching this one through nine, and you
- 28:52Speaker 9: know the announcers, you know, always talking about KG. It's like, yeah,
- 28:56Speaker 9: like as as they should like that guy. You know,
- 28:59Speaker 9: he's had one year national baseball, but it's been one
- 29:01Speaker 9: of the better years in recent years for prospect and
- 29:04Speaker 9: you know, super stoked and we have them, uh, you know,
- 29:08Speaker 9: super stoked to see where he ends up.
- 29:11Speaker 6: Do you guys talk about that as teammates guys in
- 29:13Speaker 6: camp right now, because you guys want to put the
- 29:16Speaker 6: best team out on the field. But you also know,
- 29:18Speaker 6: if you're like, man, I hope KG, as you call him,
- 29:21Speaker 6: is gonna make the is gonna make the team, and
- 29:23Speaker 6: then like Nick and zalz is over there, like what
- 29:27Speaker 6: about me? Like I want to be a part Like so,
- 29:29Speaker 6: I think it's hard as players, How much do you
- 29:31Speaker 6: guys talk about it?
- 29:34Speaker 9: I mean, not a whole lot, Like I mean, he
- 29:36Speaker 9: kind of leaves that stuff up to the front office
- 29:38Speaker 9: and the guys that are way smarter than us making decisions.
