Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to the Armchair GM Sports Network.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Ten seconds to go, common, Bill's.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Got a good center. No Stanley Cup Playoffs. Here come
- 0:41Speaker 3: the Pucalo Sis.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Yes, welcome into another after the Horn sportscast on Sabersmantics
- 0:48Speaker 1: here on the Armchair GM Sports Network. Thank you everybody
- 0:52Speaker 1: tuned in on your favorite on demand audio podcast platform
- 0:55Speaker 1: on this Easter Sunday when this episode is released. Hopefully
- 0:59Speaker 1: you and your family you're having a great long weekend. Yes,
- 1:03Speaker 1: the Buffalo Sabers fall six to two to the Washington
- 1:05Speaker 1: Capitals and their second straight loss in regulation, But the
- 1:09Speaker 1: fourteen season drought is over. As you heard rjsay there
- 1:14Speaker 1: rest in piece. RJ, you know you're looking down today happy.
- 1:19Speaker 1: That was the last time that the Sabers were able
- 1:21Speaker 1: to say that they were in the Stanley Cup playoffs,
- 1:24Speaker 1: with RJ counting that one down against the Philadelphia Flyers
- 1:29Speaker 1: back The exact date was April eighth, twenty eleven, the
- 1:33Speaker 1: last time the Sabers had the X beside their name,
- 1:36Speaker 1: clinching a playoff spot in the National Hockey League playoffs. Again,
- 1:40Speaker 1: we're gonna break down this game tonight against the Washington Capitals.
- 1:44Speaker 1: But obviously, you know, the bigger thing at play today
- 1:47Speaker 1: was the Sabers clinching the playoff spot with the Detroit
- 1:50Speaker 1: Red Wings losing yesterday. Just an incredible day, a reflection.
- 1:56Speaker 1: We're gonna have a Saber Semantics show later this week,
- 2:00Speaker 1: myself and Austin brad are gonna go over our favorite
- 2:02Speaker 1: or I guess you know if you want to call
- 2:04Speaker 1: them best or worst moments from the drought itself. A
- 2:07Speaker 1: lot of stuff to discuss, reflecting and looking back on
- 2:10Speaker 1: what's been a long, long time coming for the organization,
- 2:13Speaker 1: for the fan base, and the New York Jets are
- 2:16Speaker 1: now standing alone as the longest playoff drought in pro
- 2:21Speaker 1: sports currently, So good luck to the Jets. Maybe they
- 2:24Speaker 1: can they can get off that list, but the Sabers
- 2:27Speaker 1: getting themselves off that list now in the National Hockey
- 2:30Speaker 1: League and also the record in North American pro sports.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So as always, Sabersmantics is proudly brought to by Global
- 2:37Speaker 1: Pet Foods, where pets are unnatally part of the family,
- 2:40Speaker 1: and her three Great Niagara Region locations in Funhill, Niagara Falls,
- 2:44Speaker 1: and Scott Street in Saint Catharines. The last time the
- 2:46Speaker 1: Sabers were in the playoffs. I was nineteen years old,
- 2:49Speaker 1: so do the math on that one. It's been a
- 2:51Speaker 1: long time, long time coming for the Sabers and Lindy
- 2:54Speaker 1: ruff last coach to bring them to the playoffs and
- 2:57Speaker 1: now is the last coach to bring them to the playoff.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So many before him were unable to do that. Again,
- 3:04Speaker 1: this was a tweet for earlier earlier today for Mike Harrington,
- 3:08Speaker 1: Sabers drought coaches Lindy Rouff, Ron Rolston, Dan Bausma, Phil Housley,
- 3:13Speaker 1: Ralph Krueger, Don Grenado and Rough again, GMS, Darcy Brigere,
- 3:16Speaker 1: Tim Murray, Jason Botrel, Kevin Adams, and our now Yarmo
- 3:20Speaker 1: Kika Line and what a list. But Yarmo and Lindy
- 3:24Speaker 1: are the the two to unlock the keys to the
- 3:28Speaker 1: Sabers clinching their first playoff spot in fourteen long seasons
- 3:33Speaker 1: or fifteen years, I guess you can. We can sort
- 3:36Speaker 1: of say those two statistics there again, the Sabers fall
- 3:39Speaker 1: six two to the Washington Capitals. We're gonna hear from
- 3:43Speaker 1: head coach Lindy Roff on the wild Bills out of
- 3:45Speaker 1: repair postgame. Get his thoughts on the day as a
- 3:49Speaker 1: whole and on the game itself. Maybe the Sabers had
- 3:52Speaker 1: a little little, a little bit of celebration there in
- 3:54Speaker 1: the afternoon before they they got into Washington because it
- 3:57Speaker 1: was not the start that that they would want. So's
- 4:00Speaker 1: get things forward here with our game stats is always
- 4:02Speaker 1: brought to you by JNL Flooring. If you think you
- 4:04Speaker 1: can get a better deal anywhere else you don't know Jack,
- 4:07Speaker 1: check them out at JNO Flooring dot com or visit
- 4:09Speaker 1: or not your falls location to begin your quality flooring
- 4:12Speaker 1: project today. Again, as I mentioned, not the start that
- 4:15Speaker 1: Sabers want, because yeah, well we'll get that in our
- 4:22Speaker 1: scoring summary. But the Capitols jumped off to a three
- 4:24Speaker 1: nothing lead in this game they outshot. They were outshot
- 4:27Speaker 1: by the Sabers thirty nine to twenty eight overall. But
- 4:29Speaker 1: that first period by Buffalo is just not good for
- 4:33Speaker 1: a team that obviously went through a lot of highs
- 4:36Speaker 1: earlier in the day. Nine scoring chances to three in
- 4:39Speaker 1: favor of Washington after the first period tonight was a
- 4:41Speaker 1: statistic from MSG, so that was not obviously ideal for
- 4:45Speaker 1: the Sabers. But overall, they end up out shooting the
- 4:48Speaker 1: Capitals by a thirty nine to twenty eight score, and
- 4:50Speaker 1: it's usually a bad thing when the Sabers outshoot somebody.
- 4:53Speaker 1: They don't have the greatest of records, so they usually
- 4:56Speaker 1: like to have those games where they're getting outshot but
- 4:58Speaker 1: have the more high dangerous scoring opportunities or those great
- 5:02Speaker 1: a's as he would like to call him shot face offs. Tonight,
- 5:06Speaker 1: Sabers led slightly in that category thirty three to thirty
- 5:09Speaker 1: one fifty one point six percent. There again no Sam Carrick,
- 5:14Speaker 1: who obviously went down unfortunately after that fight last game
- 5:19Speaker 1: a few games ago. That was not ideal for Sam Carrick.
- 5:22Speaker 1: He's playing so well for the Sabers and taking key
- 5:24Speaker 1: draws as well. Maybe equated to that as well with
- 5:28Speaker 1: the Sabers not being as sharp on the faceoff dot
- 5:33Speaker 1: he's been a guy that's come over and really giving
- 5:35Speaker 1: them a lot of opportunity there. As far as the giveaways,
- 5:41Speaker 1: eighteen seventeen in favor of Washington, takeaways nine to three
- 5:44Speaker 1: in favor of the Capital, so they had six more
- 5:47Speaker 1: takeaways than the Sabers did on this night, So not
- 5:50Speaker 1: obviously ideal for the Sabers aspect as far as being
- 5:54Speaker 1: able to take away the Parks and the Sabers were
- 5:57Speaker 1: one of the best takeaway teams in all the National
- 6:00Speaker 1: Hockey League. As far as the lineup goes, Crabs Thompson
- 6:03Speaker 1: done on the first line, Zucker Norris Tuck on the
- 6:06Speaker 1: second line, Benson McLeod Quinn third line, Jordan Greenway, Tyson
- 6:09Speaker 1: Kozak comes in the lineup with Kerrick being out and
- 6:13Speaker 1: Beck Mallenstein obviously on the fourth line there against his
- 6:17Speaker 1: former team defense dline Samuelson, pair one, pair two byronm
- 6:22Speaker 1: in power and third pair was Zach Metz who was
- 6:24Speaker 1: recalled from Rochester playing a few games down there with them,
- 6:27Speaker 1: and Logan Stanley, who again continues to struggle at times
- 6:34Speaker 1: on that back end for the Sabers. And definitely, you
- 6:36Speaker 1: know a guy that you know came over from Winnipeg.
- 6:40Speaker 1: We know what he is, we know what he isn't,
- 6:41Speaker 1: but there's been some there's been some lapses there from
- 6:44Speaker 1: the big number sixty four as of late for the Sabers.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Lyon and Ellis were the two goalies tonight, so Lukenan
- 6:50Speaker 1: was scratched. Shn Kessel Ring, Carrick Timmins, Donn Pearson Ausland
- 6:55Speaker 1: all out of the lineup in this one. But again
- 6:59Speaker 1: moving on with the these game stats tonight. Yeah, we
- 7:03Speaker 1: went through that already, so we'll move off forward with
- 7:05Speaker 1: our scoring summary, brought to you by the Nagar Employment
- 7:07Speaker 1: Health Center helping people find work in the Niagara regions
- 7:09Speaker 1: in nineteen eighty three. Check out the Earth to Day
- 7:11Speaker 1: Job board at EHG dot on dot C to fund
- 7:13Speaker 1: your next work opportunity today. Scoring summary, Yeah, not to start,
- 7:20Speaker 1: the Savers would want three fifteen in Jacob Chickrin gets
- 7:23Speaker 1: his twenty fifth from Alex Ovechkin and Peter Luke Dubois.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Twenty seconds later literally Ryan dylan Strom, Sorry, Ryan covered
- 7:32Speaker 1: him a lot. In THELHL dylan Strom gets his eighteenth
- 7:35Speaker 1: from Protus and Ovechkin. So Ovechkin gets two points in
- 7:39Speaker 1: twenty seconds and then to cap it all off at
- 7:42Speaker 1: the five point fifty two mark Connor McMichael extendsive lead
- 7:45Speaker 1: to three nothing from Chickrin and Dubois and that chases
- 7:49Speaker 1: Colton Ellis brought in Colton Ellis, excuse me, chase Alex
- 7:52Speaker 1: Lyon from this game. This is really not indicative of him.
- 7:55Speaker 1: The team just did not get off to a good start.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Lion made made two at a five saves before he
- 8:00Speaker 1: was pulled, only lasted five minutes and fifty two seconds.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Colton Ellis came into this game. Lindy Rough called his
- 8:05Speaker 1: Timeout team a little shell shock there and again for
- 8:08Speaker 1: a team that's played so well here in the second
- 8:10Speaker 1: half of the season that was, and coming off of
- 8:13Speaker 1: a loss in Ottawa in regulation, that's not what you
- 8:16Speaker 1: want to see. So he calls the time out there
- 8:18Speaker 1: to try to rally the troops and gets Alex Lion
- 8:21Speaker 1: out of there to try to spark the guys, and
- 8:24Speaker 1: it clearly worked because the Sabers ended up being able
- 8:27Speaker 1: to fight back, but get down, getting yourself down three
- 8:29Speaker 1: to nothing with all the highs of what that day
- 8:33Speaker 1: was like clinching the playoffs, and then you know, going
- 8:36Speaker 1: into the game, you almost would rather them have to
- 8:38Speaker 1: earn it in a game, because then they would have
- 8:40Speaker 1: maybe had a different, different result or a different start
- 8:42Speaker 1: in this game rather than spotting the Capital's three goals
- 8:45Speaker 1: in the first five minutes and fifty two seconds of
- 8:47Speaker 1: this game. So some positive news though just over a
- 8:51Speaker 1: minute later, just under a minute later, excuse me, it's
- 8:54Speaker 1: the captain Rasmus Dallen being able to get this goal,
- 8:58Speaker 1: taking the pass from Josh nor from the half wall,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and the Sabers finally stopped the bleeding Sabers.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Looking for a response here snapshot fire upstairs score Dali.
- 9:10Speaker 1: That is some shifty move by Dallen their captain. Yes,
- 9:14Speaker 1: Josh Norris with the pass tuckets the secondary assist on it.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Dalen makes a nice move there in the slot and
- 9:20Speaker 1: is able to fire that one on the blocker side
- 9:24Speaker 1: of Logan Thompson. Uh not to be mistaken with Tage
- 9:28Speaker 1: Thompson on the Sabers side. Great goal by Dleen. Nifty
- 9:31Speaker 1: move there, gets it on his forehand, risks one there
- 9:34Speaker 1: and the captain gets the Sabers on the board and
- 9:37Speaker 1: stops the nosebleed for Buffalo at that point, making it
- 9:40Speaker 1: a three to one game. Later in the first period, though,
- 9:43Speaker 1: we got Beck Maleenstein, the former Washington Capital, the points
- 9:47Speaker 1: shot from Rasmus Doleen and Beck Malenstein's there to pick
- 9:52Speaker 1: up the rebound off the pad of Logan Thompson scoring
- 9:55Speaker 1: in Washington against his former club, cut down by Dallen's
- 9:59Speaker 1: drive to the front line. Please go the Sabers rallying
- 10:04Speaker 1: back to make it a one goal game and if
- 10:06Speaker 1: you picker right on the goal line there, Melenstein, a
- 10:09Speaker 1: former Cap, puts it yes, the former Cap seventh of
- 10:12Speaker 1: the year for Beck. Malenstein gets the Savers within a goal,
- 10:16Speaker 1: down three to nothing, get it to three to two,
- 10:18Speaker 1: and you're thinking, Okay, maybe this is the Saber is
- 10:20Speaker 1: gonna at least gain a point out of this, But
- 10:22Speaker 1: unfortunately the Capitals have seemed to have their number as
- 10:26Speaker 1: of late in the last few contests that they've went
- 10:28Speaker 1: head to head with Washington in the Grade eight and
- 10:31Speaker 1: Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals get the only goal in
- 10:35Speaker 1: the second period to extend the lead to four to two.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Protus gets an unassisted goal there. Buffalo goes zero for
- 10:41Speaker 1: five in the power play. Forgot to mention that in
- 10:43Speaker 1: the scoring summary. Not a good night in the power
- 10:46Speaker 1: play for Buffalo. They had some opportunities there to get
- 10:49Speaker 1: that game tied and get back in it. Just the
- 10:51Speaker 1: power play continues to really struggle at times, and this
- 10:54Speaker 1: was another one tonight. Getting the third period, Ryan Leonard
- 10:58Speaker 1: gets his seventeenth goal the season, the six twenty six
- 11:00Speaker 1: mark on a snapshot sort if and Cole Hudson, the
- 11:04Speaker 1: rookie just recently signed there with Washington gets the assists
- 11:09Speaker 1: on that one and it makes it a five to
- 11:11Speaker 1: two game for Washington, realistically putting it out of hand there,
- 11:15Speaker 1: and a few minutes later Tom Wilson gets a shorthanded goal,
- 11:18Speaker 1: the assists going to Connor McMichael. There again just atrocious
- 11:21Speaker 1: power play to night for Buffalo. To put it lightly,
- 11:24Speaker 1: Wilson gets the shorthanded goal there to seal it six
- 11:27Speaker 1: to two for buff in favor of the Washington Capitals,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and that would be the final tonight, six to two
- 11:32Speaker 1: for Capitals and the Sabers fall back to back games
- 11:37Speaker 1: in regulation and being outscored ten to three in those
- 11:40Speaker 1: two games. So again not ideal. But again when the
- 11:43Speaker 1: Sabers have played so well as of late and clinching
- 11:46Speaker 1: their first playoff spot in fourteen seasons, I think they'll
- 11:48Speaker 1: get a pass tonight. But again, just the last two
- 11:50Speaker 1: games of sort of seen some I guess bad tendencies
- 11:54Speaker 1: start to creep in there, and Lindy Ruff is going
- 11:56Speaker 1: to mention that here in the postgame coming up. So
- 12:00Speaker 1: as I mentioned the two goals for this game, Allenstein
- 12:03Speaker 1: and Dallen for the Sabers side, Norris Greenway Tuck and
- 12:08Speaker 1: Dallen also getting an assistant. He was the only person
- 12:11Speaker 1: with a two point night. Rough nights for METSA minus three,
- 12:14Speaker 1: Byram minus three, Quinn minus three, McLeod minus three, Thompson
- 12:18Speaker 1: minus three, Doned minus three. Yeah, not a great night
- 12:22Speaker 1: for the Sabers going from one nation's capital in Canada
- 12:26Speaker 1: in Ottawa to the one here in the United States
- 12:29Speaker 1: there in the Nation's capital of DC. So let's get
- 12:33Speaker 1: the Sabers. Head coach Lindy Ruff on the Wild Bills
- 12:36Speaker 1: out of Repair post game brought to you by Wild
- 12:38Speaker 1: Bills out of Repair helping customers stay safe and confident
- 12:41Speaker 1: on the road in Niagara since twenty twelve in honor
- 12:43Speaker 1: of the late William Robert Hunter. Here was Lindy Ruff's
- 12:45Speaker 1: postgame thoughts following his team six two defeat at the
- 12:48Speaker 1: hands of the Washington Capitals.
- 12:50Speaker 3: I guess it's a big thing. Indeed, we can't.
- 12:52Speaker 4: You can't defend as poorly as we did the first
- 12:55Speaker 4: couple of goals. I mean we left two guys wide open.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Coverage wasn't good. Ends up in the back of your net.
- 13:01Speaker 4: I think you know we've taken a lot of pride.
- 13:03Speaker 4: I mean, our defensive play has been a big reason
- 13:06Speaker 4: why we got to where we got.
- 13:07Speaker 3: We can't take that for granted, we saw obviously.
- 13:10Speaker 2: What happened in the game, but what is the message
- 13:12Speaker 2: at the time out? Just clear their heads and start over.
- 13:14Speaker 4: But I talked about our our defensive zone coverage. Just
- 13:19Speaker 4: talked about we got to get back, we got to
- 13:20Speaker 4: stop inside.
- 13:21Speaker 3: We were we were circling.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Uh, you know, I thought we fought fought our way
- 13:25Speaker 4: back to three to two. You look at the second period,
- 13:28Speaker 4: we have a two on one, we don't execute, but
- 13:30Speaker 4: have made the game three to three, and that two
- 13:33Speaker 4: and one turned into two and one the other way,
- 13:34Speaker 4: and they finished it and made it four too.
- 13:36Speaker 3: And then now we're chasing the game again.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Did you change the goalie just to kind of change
- 13:40Speaker 2: the momentum and maybe shock the team a little bit?
- 13:42Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 13:44Speaker 4: I Mean he wasn't out there covering those guys that
- 13:46Speaker 4: were wide open.
- 13:48Speaker 3: He was trying to the way things have gone here.
- 13:52Speaker 2: I mean, all of a sudden, you're third in the division,
- 13:54Speaker 2: which seems kind of shocking given where you've been for weeks.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I mean, what how does this team, you know, refocus?
- 14:00Speaker 2: You know, I think you just have to refocus.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Uh, if you look at at some of those at
- 14:05Speaker 4: some of those plays that we made in our own
- 14:08Speaker 4: end that you know we weren't good enough, you know,
- 14:11Speaker 4: and if you start cheating a little bit on offense,
- 14:13Speaker 4: it hurts you. And I thought a couple of times
- 14:14Speaker 4: we got on the wrong side of the puck and
- 14:15Speaker 4: did it hurt us?
- 14:16Speaker 3: How can you get to your defensive game back? Because
- 14:18Speaker 3: you know you have a good defense.
- 14:19Speaker 4: It starts, I mean it starts with breaking the puck up.
- 14:22Speaker 3: We haven't broke the puck out well enough. I mean
- 14:24Speaker 3: even I think the first or.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Second goal when Bo had it, it should be a play.
- 14:27Speaker 3: We're breaking the puck out. We turned that over and
- 14:30Speaker 3: turnovers like that.
- 14:31Speaker 4: When we have the puck, you know, our players are
- 14:33Speaker 4: automatically starting to have the other direction, so everything's connected.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Break the puck out better, you know, buy a little
- 14:39Speaker 4: more time for your defense.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Going back, after you changed the power play, you had
- 14:43Speaker 1: a few good games. Are there some things you got
- 14:44Speaker 1: away from the last game and tonight.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Play made a lot of good decisions tonight.
- 14:49Speaker 4: You know, a couple of I'm going to know they're
- 14:52Speaker 4: going made a couple of says, but I didn't like
- 14:53Speaker 4: our five on three and then the late five on
- 14:56Speaker 4: five and four we give up, you know, give up
- 14:58Speaker 4: to two and one again for for another goal against
- 15:01Speaker 4: wasn't didn't execute very well. How do you feel your
- 15:04Speaker 4: team's handling the elevated intensity and desperation of your opponents.
- 15:09Speaker 4: You know, I think the opponent has won that battle.
- 15:14Speaker 4: I'd just referenced the start of the game. Uh, you
- 15:17Speaker 4: know game against Ottawa. Obviously we got the one nothing lead.
- 15:21Speaker 4: There wasn't a lot going on. There wasn't a lot
- 15:22Speaker 4: for chances either way. You know, you're sitting at one
- 15:26Speaker 4: to one halfway through the third period tonight, it's a
- 15:28Speaker 4: different story.
- 15:29Speaker 3: You know, you start a game like that, it's hard.
- 15:31Speaker 4: We've been good at coming back in games, and we
- 15:34Speaker 4: we almost fought our way back. I thought they're going
- 15:37Speaker 4: made a couple of key saves at key times we
- 15:40Speaker 4: could have probably tied the game up. But to me,
- 15:42Speaker 4: it just comes down to defending on the whole. Defending
- 15:44Speaker 4: you can't give up, and we hadn't been giving up
- 15:47Speaker 4: those type of opportunities.
- 15:48Speaker 1: What you have coming on on the maybe the perfect chance,
- 15:51Speaker 1: the intensity.
- 15:52Speaker 4: That should be for sure, you know, the game where
- 15:56Speaker 4: there was a lot of intensity last time, and maybe
- 15:58Speaker 4: it's exactly what we need right now.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Postgame audio's courtesy of MSG and the National Hockey League,
- 16:03Speaker 1: as well as Buffalo Sabers dot Com and X dot
- 16:05Speaker 1: Com slash Buffalo Sabers. All audio rights courtesy of the
- 16:08Speaker 1: Buffalo Sabers. Just paused ten seconds for station identification.
- 16:12Speaker 4: This is the ArmchairGM Sports Network.
- 16:16Speaker 1: There was Lindy Ruff's postgame comments on the Wild Bulls
- 16:19Speaker 1: Auto Repair post game. Again, just didn't like their start
- 16:22Speaker 1: against Washington tonight, not the way that they want to play.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Didn't like the five on three and the decision making
- 16:27Speaker 1: there from the powerplay. Just not great stuff there for
- 16:30Speaker 1: the Sabers. And again he's got to get them refocused.
- 16:33Speaker 1: And as they mentioned the standings, we'll take a quick
- 16:36Speaker 1: look at that, and the Sabers are now third in
- 16:39Speaker 1: the Atlantic Division, even though again that game against Tampa
- 16:42Speaker 1: on Monday the utmost importance for possibly the Atlantic Division,
- 16:47Speaker 1: but right now that Montreal Canadians are ahead of the
- 16:49Speaker 1: Sabers with a game in hand, so Buffalo falls to
- 16:52Speaker 1: one hundred points, incredible for the Atlantic Division to be
- 16:56Speaker 1: as as close as it is right now, tamp at
- 16:59Speaker 1: one hundred and two points, Montreal at one hundred, and
- 17:01Speaker 1: Buffalo at one hundred as well. The Sabers have one
- 17:05Speaker 1: extra game played then Washington or excuse me, Montreal and
- 17:08Speaker 1: Tampa Bay. At the moment, again, there's still six points
- 17:11Speaker 1: up on Boston for the wildcard spot, So it looks
- 17:15Speaker 1: like it's going to be trying to battle between Tampa Bay, Montreal,
- 17:18Speaker 1: and Buffalo for the top three teams in the Atlantic
- 17:22Speaker 1: and who's going to get that one seed and who's
- 17:23Speaker 1: going to have home ice advantage against the other as
- 17:25Speaker 1: that two to three within the Atlantic Division, because Carolina
- 17:30Speaker 1: basically has clinched the Metropolitan Division, Pittsburgh and the Islanders
- 17:34Speaker 1: the other two playoff teams there over in the Metro
- 17:37Speaker 1: and the wildcard right now is Boston and then a
- 17:39Speaker 1: tie between Ottawa and Detroit along with Philadelphia and Columbus,
- 17:43Speaker 1: a four way tie for that second wildcard spot in
- 17:46Speaker 1: the Eastern Conference along with Washington, who won tonight over
- 17:49Speaker 1: the Sabers only a point back. Now, just wow, the
- 17:53Speaker 1: Eastern Conference is so tough this season and it's going
- 17:57Speaker 1: to be a battle all the way to the end
- 17:59Speaker 1: for which team does get in the Sabers fall the five,
- 18:02Speaker 1: three and two of the last ten, so not the
- 18:04Speaker 1: best of streaks. And Montre with their eight game winning
- 18:07Speaker 1: streak nine to one in their last ten, have moved
- 18:09Speaker 1: ahead of Buffalo at the time being with that extra
- 18:13Speaker 1: game in hand. So yeah, right now, the Sabers, you
- 18:17Speaker 1: can look at it. They've been playing great hockey and
- 18:19Speaker 1: they clinched the playoff spot. But now you know, those
- 18:22Speaker 1: two straight regulation losses and teams are really breathing down
- 18:26Speaker 1: their neck now and they fall out of not only
- 18:28Speaker 1: first place, but now second place in the Atlantic Division.
- 18:30Speaker 1: So they're going to need to get back on track
- 18:32Speaker 1: here very quickly with their next game on Monday, and
- 18:36Speaker 1: it looms all importance against the Tampa Bay Lightning could
- 18:41Speaker 1: be for the Atlantic Division a four points win game
- 18:44Speaker 1: and really decide which team is going to win the
- 18:47Speaker 1: Atlantic Division this season. Let's get connected with our fans quickly.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Brought to you by the niagardentri Clinic creating Natro Smiles
- 18:53Speaker 1: in the Niagara region for over twenty five years, our
- 18:56Speaker 1: fan pull tonight. Despite the Sabers clinching a playoff spot
- 18:59Speaker 1: with a strong wretch, how concerned are you with buffalose
- 19:01Speaker 1: two losses in a row to Ottawa and Washington in regulation,
- 19:06Speaker 1: being outscored ten to three. Not concerned, somewhat concerned, are
- 19:09Speaker 1: very concerned, somewhat concerned as sixty percent, very concerned at
- 19:12Speaker 1: forty percent. So the fans obviously see things that are
- 19:16Speaker 1: not technically trending in the right direction for Buffalo. And
- 19:20Speaker 1: again Alex Lions say percentage over the last three a
- 19:23Speaker 1: game seven to seven to two and a goals against
- 19:26Speaker 1: the average of six twenty four thirteen goals allowed, forty
- 19:30Speaker 1: four saves on fifty seven shots one hundred and twenty
- 19:32Speaker 1: five minutes. That was from Mike Harrington. So not great there,
- 19:36Speaker 1: not great, Yeah, So we're gonna move on from that.
- 19:39Speaker 1: And again for the Sabers, if you want to be
- 19:41Speaker 1: able to give them a player of the Game tonight,
- 19:43Speaker 1: I guess we'll give it to Dollan with his goal
- 19:45Speaker 1: and assist. Colton Ellis played decent as well, stopping twenty
- 19:48Speaker 1: if twenty three coming in relief five minutes into the
- 19:50Speaker 1: game and having to to really try to hold down
- 19:53Speaker 1: the fourth there for the Sabers. So I guess we'll
- 19:56Speaker 1: give it to those two guys in that in that sense,
- 20:00Speaker 1: Rasmus Dallen and even Colton Ellis to a lesser extent.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Another tweet I wanted to bring up from Mike Harrington
- 20:07Speaker 1: was another interesting one as far as reminiscing on this
- 20:11Speaker 1: Sabers drought. Here most games among active players areout playing
- 20:14Speaker 1: in the playoffs. Rasmus Dahalen is second at five hundred
- 20:18Speaker 1: and eighty one. Tage Thompson's third in the national aguage
- 20:21Speaker 1: of five hundred and twenty four. Rasmus Rista Linen, the
- 20:24Speaker 1: former Saber now Philadelphia Flyer eight hundred and fifteen. Unbelievable.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Top three are from the Sabers, and Dalian and Thompson
- 20:32Speaker 1: are both going to come off that list very shortly
- 20:34Speaker 1: and the last time the Sabers made the playoffs. Get
- 20:37Speaker 1: a load of this, folks. Here's the lineup Brad Boys,
- 20:40Speaker 1: Chris Butler, Tyler, Ennis Paul Gostad, Nathan Gerby, Mark Andre Gragnani,
- 20:45Speaker 1: Mike Greer, who's now a general manager in the league
- 20:47Speaker 1: with the San Jose Sharks, Jokinhasch, Jordan Leopold, Mark Mancari,
- 20:51Speaker 1: Cody McCormick, Tyler Meyers still playing in the league now
- 20:54Speaker 1: with Dallas Rob Niedermeyer, Derek Roy, Andre Sakara, Drew Stafford,
- 20:59Speaker 1: Thomas Vanik, Mike Weber, Jonas Enroth, and Ryan Miller. Miller
- 21:03Speaker 1: and Vanik are working in staffs within the San Jose
- 21:06Speaker 1: organization along with Mike Grier. Just crazy when you look
- 21:11Speaker 1: at the last of roster that that appeared in the
- 21:13Speaker 1: playoffs for the Sabers. Yeah, that's quite the line up there,
- 21:18Speaker 1: So that's gonna be it for this after the horn
- 21:21Speaker 1: here at Sabers Semantics episode. Appreciate everybody joining us tonight again.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Sabers clinched their first playoff spot and playoff appearance since
- 21:29Speaker 1: April eight, twenty eleven. It's been a long long time
- 21:32Speaker 1: coming for the Sabers. Gonna be a fun playoff run there,
- 21:35Speaker 1: whether they are the one, two, or the three seed
- 21:37Speaker 1: right now in the Atlantic Division, that's what it looks
- 21:40Speaker 1: like it's gonna be right now as well as trying
- 21:42Speaker 1: to go for that top spot overall with those two
- 21:46Speaker 1: teams and Carolina as well. So if you're the Sabers,
- 21:49Speaker 1: you're doing a lot of scoreboard watching over these last
- 21:52Speaker 1: few weeks of games here and it's gonna determine their
- 21:56Speaker 1: first round opponent in their first playoff appearance in fourteens
- 22:00Speaker 1: in the National Hockey League. Going to be a fun
- 22:02Speaker 1: one there in downtown Buffalo. And again I'm sure RJ's
- 22:06Speaker 1: looking down proud and RJ Way is going to be
- 22:10Speaker 1: packed for those I guess party in the plaza's here
- 22:14Speaker 1: in a few short weeks coming at the end of April.
- 22:16Speaker 1: So as always, Saber Semantics is probably brought to by
